Finding His Voice
His critics won’t be able to demerit David for a lack of articulation for very much longer. For those of us who knew that his ability to express himself outside of a song was only hidden by humility and shyness, this will be a welcome but not-entirely surprising segment. It’s gratifying to see that David is finding his voice in more ways than one.[youtube:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mGX1kEDl2zo]

Thank you rascal -- I might not have seen this interview if I hadn’t been up early lurking around notingdavid….
I should say he has found his voice! His comment about being honored to come in second to Cook just kills me -- HE IS ALWAYS THINKING OF SOMEONE OTHER THAN HIMSELF! It just makes me want him to be crowned Prnice that much more!
Yes, David -- you have changed the lives of many, many people with your voice -- we are now known as Archies for LIFE, or Lifers
THANK YOU!
Rascal, thank you. I’d seen references to this interview but hadn’t found it. He is as sincere and as humble as always, but I feel that he is MORE himself, more open and animated, than I’d ever seen. I think he’ll give great interviews after the show, and I hope he silences a few of the people who have slammed his personality with such relish. (Simon won’t care enough to pay attention, of course, but I don’t care about Simon, so…)
I think the Angels’ true theme should be,
“Yes, I CAN actually love him more.”
While he still searches for words at times, you can’t deny just how much more comfortable and confident he is in doing these things.
I just pray that after he sings the three songs in the finale, he will not feel that he let us fans down; that he did everything that he could to give his best possible performance. I don’t want him to leave Kodak theater with any regrets, win or lose.
God bless David and just continue to have fun. We’re rooting for ya!
Dang it! When will I stop falling in love with this guy? After 52 years on the planet, 25 years of Oprah and countless hours in church, I have only now begun to realize the meaning of gratitude, humility and positive thinking. It’s one thing to hear it, to think you understand it, but it’s another thing to feel it.
David, you could never let us down.
Fan for Life,
J.
Humility, purity, and passion -- enough reasons for someone to be idolized. Only David Archuleta owns these elements. He captivated the heart and soul of the many and became an inspiration. He definitely the American Idol.
On Wednesday night’s results show, did anyone else notice the look that flickered across David’s face when Ryan said something like “This could be the last time David appears on this stage”? It was so clear how much he did not want it to be the last time. Thanks for this video, Rascal. It’s great to hear David articulate how much he has loved the whole experience. I only wish I could vote from Toronto! GO DAVID!
David is so amazing. Honestly, I’m afraid that he won’t win this competition. But, as Rascal explained, this might be better for him in the long run. Count me in as an Archie for LIFE!
Rascal, I am so glad I found this site, thank you for expressing what so many of us feel. I am a 55 year old nurse and artist who has experienced the euphoria of ODD for weeks without being able to account for the enormous effect this young man has on me. In the past I have always been ready to appreciate talent when I’ve seen it and move on. Why can’t I move out of the orbit that is David Archuleta? I watched the video of David speaking this morning and it has haunted me all day. He speaks with so much passion, intensity, longing and humilty. I feel I am in the presence of a talent so monumental, powered by a soul so pure and compelling that I can not move away. There is something new under the sun and it is wonderful to behold.
Words cannot express how much I love this boy.
Rascal -- thank you so much for this wonderful, uplifting blog. I read it every day.
This is really great video. I really love how he realizes the effect he has had on people, yet he is still humble about it as always. Hope he wins but even if he doesn’t I’m sure he’ll have a terrific future.
Thank you again Rascal!
I think I speak for many of us when I say about David, “Wooo, we are not worthy.”
It’s amazing how much of an impact not only his music, but his gratitude, humility and selflessness has done to me. I know this seems silly, but I am catching myself trying to be more humbled and selfless in my own life. Its almost like I have “What would David Archuleta do?” moments (Maybe I shouldn’t give AI ideas for T-shirts). This proves to me that David is so much bigger than AI.
I was thinking that next week, he will have to pick a song he has sung in the past. I doubt he will sing “Imagine” again. My guess (and hope) is that it will be “Heaven”, a song he sung in the audition days that even seemingly made one of the backup vocalists cry. That was the first song I heard him sing where I knew he was something. It was my first impression of David and it left me wanting more.
Okay, so I just watched this three more times and I have three more comments: 1. Archie even says “Cook” cute. 2. He ends by saying “hopefully it will be enough for them.” I know what he means. My response to him? Yes, it will be enough for us, but no, we’ll never get enough of you.
Fan for life.
I drove from Washington stat to attend David’s homecoming in Utah. I just HAD to be there and share in his celebration even if peripherally. While there, I saw an interview of David on TV. The host spoke of him being embarrassed and having difficulty speaking before an audience. David said essentially--’but I’m getting better, don’t you think?’ I can see it, and this video clip is proof of it.
Despite being painfully shy, this kid is facing his demons and stepping up to the plate. I love it. I love his courage, am in awe of him. Like Jay above, David makes me want to step up my game in my own personal circumstances. He really is inspiring on so many levels.
Incidentally, I saw the companion interview of David Cook. Cook was nice, and I love having come to know through other videos that he “gets” David and loves him, too. Cookie said that he wouldn’t mind getting the silver, that David was a good kid but made no mention of David’s incredible talent.
I’d have to say that as far as graciousness is concerned--after comparing the Davids--that this round goes to Archuleta. Somehow, I’m not surprised.
I don’t know where else to post this rascal -- so this seemed like the best place -- my thoughts on tomorrow night:
I really believe that David will give his best performances of the season tomorrow for this simple fact: He doesn’t feel any pressure-he is completely comfortable with where he is right now in the competition and coming in second would not be a bad thing -- he said so himself in his Top 2 interview. He is stepping on the stage tomorrow night to do what he loves most -- sing for his fans. I don’t think he’s too worried about the judges at this point, I know I’m not. His confidence has been building and tomorrow night he will shine!
It’s time for David to start the next chapter in his life journey-and that means AI ending and his music career beginning. It’s going to be really wonderful to watch him along the way!
I know it’s hard not to be a little selfish because it’s been a way of life for us for the past 3-4 months. But because I truly believe we haven’t even seen what he has to offer, I am content. I think the next 2-3 years he will take the world by storm what with writing his own music and such.
He’s the pied piper I tell you !!
Let’s hope he’s not the pied piper … he led everyone over the cliff! LOL
Josie-beautifully said.
Josie, I believe you’re right, this is only the beginning. Selfishly though, it is going to be an adjustment. I’ve become accustomed to getting a little blast of inspiration from the latest interview or video. I think we’ll all be hitting the replay button for months to come.
Hopefully Rascal will have his ear to the ground, and will continue to grace us with his astute commentary as David’s life continues to unfold.
Also, I believe the folks at davidarchuletafanblast will be keeping us all up to date.
But, the truth is, a lot of us need to get back to work!
I’ve been watching as many of the post Idol interviews of David as I can. He is genuine and real and absolutely hilarious. He will do just fine. :- )
