It’s Official: David Signed to Jive

From the Zomba Label Group web site:
DAVID ARCHULETA SIGNS TO JIVE RECORDS
(New York, NY) – It was announced today that American Idol sensation David Archuleta has signed to 19 Recordings/Jive Records. Archuleta is currently gearing up for the upcoming American Idol tour which kicks off on July 1st in Glendale, AZ. The 17-year old is expected to release his debut album later this year.
“Signing a record contract with 19 Recordings/Jive Records is truly a dream come true,” states Archuleta. “Being a fan of American Idol since season one and admiring the alumni, I am honored and humbled to be a part of that group. I’m really excited to start working on everything.”
David Archuleta, the runner-up on the current season of “American Idol,” has three songs entering the Hot 100 this week, starting with his stunning remake of John Lennon’s “Imagine” at No. 36, along with his highly-praised rendition of “Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me,” and his finale song, “In This Moment.”
Simon Fuller, creator of the popular TV series and chief executive and founder of 19 Entertainment Label Group, states, “It was fascinating to watch David’s journey through Idol. He is a genuine pop star, and is a gifted singer who instantly won over a huge audience when he first appeared on the show. Since then, he has dealt with the pressure and the high level of expectation with real fortitude; he’s given us some of the best performances of the season. Without question David Archuleta has a great future ahead of him.”
Tom Carrabba, Executive Vice President and General Manager, Jive/Zomba Label Group comments, “David Archuleta has already shown the world that he is a star. He’s a young, talented singer with wide appeal and we’re thrilled to have him join our roster.”
David Archuleta is from Murray, Utah, a town outside Salt Lake City. He recently came to national attention and captured the hearts and imagination of a nation with several show-stopping performances on “American Idol.”

Hurray for David! Can hardly wait for his CD but I hope and pray he gets to take his time and craft it just the way he wants it.
Looking forward to it! Hey Rascal are you gonna email me back or what?
Congratulations David! You really deserve it!
I admit I was slightly worried that David still has to be in such close vicinity still with Idol. 19 is behind the show, isn’t it? But if he’s happy, then we all should be. He knows more than anyone else what he’s capable of doing, and I hope Jive gives him the support he needs. Can’t wait!
YEAH!! Guess it didn’t take that long after all!!
Happy, happy, happy, happy for him!!!!
We are all patiently waiting for you David!!
You worked your so hard!! Congratulations!!
I’m so proud right now.
ohhoworiginal -- Don’t worry about David. He’s going to be just fine. He’s already working on potential songs that he wants to do for the album. Trust the Archuleta.
My prediction: A sublime version of Angels will be releasedbecoming a world wide hit. Another orginal single will be released, a collaboration witha strong writer. this one will have a really funky soul groove and will be one of those numbers like “Crazy” that you just can’t get out of your head. Also a world wide hit. the hordes of people who purchase the CD based on the hits will discover the full range of David’s incredible talent. In no time they’ll be hooked by the hundreds of thousands. David’s successis assured.
Let’s be positive -- Jive and 19E want him to sell millions too -- someone will have the wherwithall to make the right choices.
PS David sang “I’ll Be” at a highschool talent show once -- check it out if you haven’t seen it. It’s awesome! He should record it OK back to work sorry fo rthe run on words
Awesome! David--I’m thrilled your dreams are coming true. Now ours are too!!!
One thing I’m confused about in this announcement--if David “has three songs entering the Hot 100 this week”, where can they be purchased? They haven’t been on iTunes for a while—is there another purchase link?
JesseQ-stop badgering rascal
just kidding
Yea for David-Clive Davis will take good care of him, I have no doubt. And I trust the Archuleta! This young man will not have to sing another cover song in his entire life-he has his own material as well as that of other songwriters lining up to write for him.
I mean, who wouldn’t want David Archuleta singing their song??
JesseQ-did I say stop hassling rascal?
just kidding
Hey Josie I hear you and that’s the most exciting prospect. But I can’t let go of the idea of David the artistic interpreter. that’s how we cameto know him and no one can resurrect a formerly great tune like he can. It’s a thrill just to imagine what he could make of certain songs.A compromise would be 2 covers per cd for the next 5 cd’s. Agreed? (ha ha)
David is going to be just fine. Remember, Diane Warren has had her eye on him from the beginning. She wrote 2 songs with David in mind. How wonderful this will be. Of course, it will be a hit. David also has written his own songs. Check out Dream Sky High on YouTube. It’s just amazing watching our David’s dreams come true and OURS!!!!
Congrats to our precious David. He will turn out a real winner. I will be there in that long line to purchase mine. He must be so excited. I can hardly wait to be new inspired by this CD and the many to come. Thank you again Rascal for keeping us up to date. ODD is running real high!
YESSSSS!!!! This is sooo exciting! His dream (and ours) has come true! I feel like I did when I was a kid counting the days down until Christmas. Now I’m counting the days down until David’s CD release. I can’t wait! This year is going to go by very slowly. Hope a single comes out this summer to keep me sane.
Does anyone know -- has a #2 Idol winner ever been signed this quickly? I said it yesterday -- Too hot to handle! This is FABULOUS news! And I’m so happy that David does not have to wait to start making his dream come true! We trusted and loved David on AI when he was making his own decisions, I am trusting and loving right now whatever he comes up with.
Congratulations, David!! We are all so very proud of you. You are on your way for sure.
Question….will there be a “single” put out first prior to a full album? I heard that David Cook will be putting out a single very soon. I would be interested to know if Archie will do the same…does anyone know?
DAVID ARCHULETA….you must be so happy right now!!! You’re the best….and we love you!
Congratulations David!!!!!!!!!! This is the best news I have heard since the Finale. I am so happy for you and I cannot wait to hear your CD when it comes out. I have been playing all your AI songs over and over a million times. I truly think you are going to make it real BIG. Your are a pordigy as Neil Diamond said. Go get David… Look forward to hearing your music for many years to come.
Whoops, sorry about the TYPO’s. I was just so excited about the news. “Go get um David”. “Prodigy”
Yeah! David rock the world
. Congratulations, I am singing “What a feeling”…sooo
. For an album title: DAVID ARCHULETA IMAGINE. ‘-)
Yes, echoing oh4oh22 -- looking forward to hearing your music for many years to come…
marylee -- I don’t know about DA doing a single, I know the winner of AI always puts out the winning song of the songwriters comp. and that is the single DC will put out this summer, so good question, will DA put one out too?
LOL RIKA -- that tribute vid on youtube with David and that song What a Feeling…..yeah I can see it in my head right now….singing right along with you…..
Those of you wanting to make suggestions of songs for David to cover check out Fan Blast. You have until Saturday to submit.
You go Archie!!!!! Jive is perfect for you and your career will be huge and you are just the BEST BOY we are so happy and proud of you and you deserve all the success you will have cannot wait til you release your new 8x double platnium cd and i will be first in line to buy it!!!!! Way to go ARCHIE i knew you were going to be huge!!!!
Congratulations to our David!!!!!!!! Your dream is comming true and so is ours. I will be just like all the others standing in line waiting to buy Davids first CD among so many others that he will be making. Rascal thank you for keeping us connected to our precious David. His music has touched my soul like noone in my life has ever done. Come on album I’m having David music withdrawals. I have no Ipod or recordings of AI, just youtube. I am lookging forward to our David becoming world renowned with his beautiful gift from God, his angelic voice that has touched so many of us all around the world, I am ODD. Thank You!!!!!!!!!!!
I really would like for David to include a collaborative Think Of Me with SonicEther. The remix he did was awesome and really gave a sense of how David would sound with an upbeat tempo and sound behind his vocals. I think a mix up of David’s pop version with the SonicEther remix would be great, you know with both versions spliced together a bit. I know he has said that he is only this young once and he really wants to do some ‘fun’ ‘young’ stuff now, and then later after he’s had some fun and gotten a older and more experienced he can start tackling the ‘Ti voglio’s’ of the world as musicao once suggested. I also would love to hear him do that, but later, I think he could definitely do it more justice than Celine and Josh Groban did. Maybe a little more like Lara Fabian only with a male voice. well we will see, we have plenty of time, or rather he does, to spread his wings and fly and see where the wind takes him. I am just ecstatic that I get to watch and listen!
David is on his way!! WOOHOO!!! So happy for you, David! Your dreams coming true are what this is all about. You deserve to have all of your dreams fulfilled!! We are all so lucky to be along for the ride. We love ya kiddo!! Go get ‘em!! Just can’t wait to hear what you’ve got!!
Congrats David!! I am so happy for you and I am even more happy for ME!!! :- ) I can hardly wait! Thanks so much for all you have given us. What a gift!
Weird, my smiley face broke in half and I don’t know how to fix it.
:- ) There.
So perfect! Congrats David. I will be waiting your cd so I can play it over and over again!!!!
Congratulations to David! He deserves this chance as he worked hard on that show to prove himself. I cannot wait for the album and possible single.
There is a lot of talent at Jive and David will be in some good company. I have the utmost confidence in him that he will create an album true to himself.
Tinuviel I think you’re on the right track. David working with some great producer/dj’s would generate some killer tracks. The eclectic merry go round is spinning in my head. That heavy groove / retro feel you hear all over “The miseducation of Lauryn Hill” also comes to mind. Both CD’s by “Band of Horses” have moments of stunning countrified beaty that I’ve been giving alot of play lately. That guy’s voice is not in David’s league but the melodies and his delivery do have a David connection for me. (Smoky Mountain Memories somehow)
Anyway I have no doubt, that whatever styles David records in, we’re in for a long spectacular muscal journey.
Hi Gang,
This is not really related to this thread but wanted as many of you to catch it as possible by posting current.
I’ve been reading “A New Earth” by Eckhart Tolle. There’s a lot of Buddhist thought in it. Today I came home and read this paragraph that I really feel inclined to share. (Rascal’s “Rebel..” piece about David’s Buddha nature speaks to this also.)
“In a world of role-playing personalities, those few people who don’t project a mind made image –and there are some even on TV, in the media, and the business world –but function from the deeper core of their Being, those who do not attempt to appear more than they are but are simply themselves, stand out as remarkable and are the only ones who make a difference in this world. They are the bringers of the new consciousness. Whatever they do becomes empowered because it is in alignment with the purpose of the whole. Their influence however, goes far beyond what they do, far beyond their function. Their mere presence – simple, natural, unassuming-has a transformational effect on who-ever they come into contact with.”
Funny how so many seemingly disparate things wind up connecting to each other in a person’s life.
Hey, musicao, looks like we are up late. I had to stay up late tonight, so I have been on youtube watching all the interviews and homecoming footage again. I just can’t get enough. “Transformational effect” is an understatement par none. My mind is just boggled with the ‘effect’ David is having on all of us and so many that I see other places than here, just boggled. I don’t see how Cook won by 12mil., doesn’t make any sense at all, but then, neither does this phenomenon we’re all in the middle of, grappling with, struggling to define, explain, and ultimately learn to live with. You know, you started something bringing up Ti Voglio (Caruso). When I first heard Lara Fabian perform it, I was spellbound and it took me a long time to get away from it, you just started it all over again. I don’t feel that way about any of her other performances, she is a great singer in a lot of respects, but she just owns that song in a way not even Pavarotti did. As I listened again and followed some links and just whiled away listening to some great performances, I found myself going back and listening to a few of David’s performances in between, and I am astounded all over again at his vocal ability at 17. He really can sing with the best of them, can’t he? The thing is, listening to some of his interviews, I don’t think he really realizes that. He is just so humble, he thinks others are as good or better than he is, he just doesn’t have a clue…….
Okay, I need to get a life. It seems everyone else has here. I was the last one to comment last night, and the first this morning. My ODD is full blast and I am starting to have withdrawals from just the thought of not hearing or seeing anything new about DJ for the month of June. July cannot get here fast enough. Come on July…….
Is this how it is going to be? Has my existence been redefined so radically? I am stuck in this moment…………I……………Don’t……………………Want……………………To…………………………………………..Go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Okay, I gotta go see about a life………………..
Tinuviel -- Don’t worry, I check this site constantly, I just don’t have much to say most of the time. Every one else is so much more elegant. I must admit, I am totally missing the Tues/Wed thing, I miss seeing his passion for music, it is so inspiring!!! I am trying so hard to be patient, it’s hard though. I hope if there are those that go to the concerts they will post some new video online!! I am not going, waiting for his own concert, kind of selfish thinking, but I can’t bring myself to go, oh well! So, I guess I have no life either, I spent my time late last night thinking up albums titles for his new album and cover songs for him to sing (which is like everything on my ipod). Total ODD insanity!!!!
Congratulations to David, who filled the news sources with exciting tidbits yesterday.
I’m looking forward to the tour, the single and his first CD!
Rascal, I can’t thank you enough for this blog. It has become an important daily stop for me. I’m learning a lot from Archie’s most articulate fans.
musicao- Love Eckhart Tolle because I think so much of David when I read it! David definitely came to earth ready to live his dharma. The rest of us should be so lucky.
That’s such a cute picture that goes with this thread. It’s his happy-self smile. Love it. Just checking in too, this morning. I always hope for a little something new each day, but am afraid, like tinuvial, that it’s going to be a long June….
I have some “deep thoughts” running through my head tied to some scriptures, but have to develop them more before I know if I want to share. Let’s just say for now that I believe we’re all “hooked” because God wants him to be a success so that He can continue to sing messages of love and hope to a sick world. As long as he stays true to who he is and knows is right, he will be a great instrument in the hands of God. That’s what I believe. We’re all a good steady fanbase to help him have a voice longer than AI. I love what someone quoted David as having said, that he said as long as he did what he was supposed to do, he would go as far as he was supposed to go. That’s doing your part to be the instrument and then putting your trust in God. Faith in action. It’s beautiful to see.
This is my favorite stop -- first thing in the morning. Thanks for everyone’s insightful comments. When I hang out here I feel enlightened and enriched by the beautiful writing and your beautiful souls. This is truly the best David place to be. My household has been upended since about February, you all know why, and I see no end in sight. But I think we’ll all get through this together!
Daisychain -- I would personally LOVE to read those ‘deep thoughts’ tied to scripture, so post them please! Maybe they will give some comfort and strength in this our hour of need. He is really young to have some of the convictions and strength of faith that he has shown in some of his comments such as the one you quoted. He really is “shining his light before all men, that we might see his good works and give glory to our Father in Heaven” Matthew 5:16. I am reminded of Simon’s comments to David’s “When You Believe”. He said that he would have bet one in a million that that is the song that David was going to pick. Simon already had seen David shining his light, already knew exactly what he stood for and where he was coming from, he knew David would choose that song because it’s message was exactly that. David has never hid it or apologized for it, rather he has continued to make his decisions and order his life even while in the AI bubble according to those beliefs. I think Simon (and others) thought he would be ‘seduced by the dark side’ or at least tempted by all that he was being exposed to. But dear sweet David didn’t, rather he made it clear that he was there and on this earth to bring people back to the right path, and what is more, that he BELIEVED that people could be brought back. It’s like the scene in Return of the Jedi when Luke is fighting with Darth and trying to get him to turn from the dark side and the emperor is cruelly mocking. Simon the Sith Lord and David the Jedi Knight. I think so many of us recognized that ultimate struggle of the universe between light and dark, between good and evil being played out before our eyes week to week and we are all cheering for the light and good to win out. David is our Champion in this cause and we are rallying behind him, believing as he believes that people can be brought back and good can prevail, for David to show the world that you can be a part of the seductive world of entertainment and still hold the course of moral conviction and not just maintain but flourish, be popular, make lots of money, be successful, and it not change fundamentally who you are, not change your belief that the world can ultimately be saved. We need to believe that that is possible. I really wish that DJ could have sung ‘Hero’ without Cook. David has chosen to be a Hero of something, Cook doesn’t have any interest in being a hero and it shows in word and deed. “Let no one look down on your youth, but rather in word, deed, love, faith, and purity, show yourself as an example to other believers.” We’re watching, David, the whole world is watching, show us it’s possible.
Love this site; I come here every day too. Several times, actually. Thank you, Rascal! Serious fans need a serious place to discuss and share.
To Tinuviel: I read that a Cook fan boasted that she had voted 29,000 times on the final Tuesday night. That isn’t possible without using enhanced telephone dialing software. I think Cook’s fans may have been more tech-savvy that Archuleta’s. My husband & I voted the full four hours on the last Tuesday night, with land lines, text messaging, and Gizmo. We got in around 2,400 votes. I’m still in shock that I was that committed to vote on a TV show I actually dislike. Of course, I realize that my real commitment is to David Archuleta.
The unlimited voting is one of the main reason I object to American Idol. It opens the contest up to such unfair practices. I chose to use Gizmo in the end only because I was desperate, but I didn’t feel good about it. Unlimited voting may be great for the corporate backers of AI, but it’s a slap in the face to true fans, as it is the impetus that whips us into a frenzy. Musicians, especially those of Archuleta’s caliber, deserve fans who are dedicated, loyal, and knowledgeable, but not fanatical.
After reading the last few posts I happened upon this fun little song while listening to my ipod:
Me and all my friends we’re all misunderstood
They say we stand for nothing and there’s no way we ever could
Now we see everything that’s going wrong, with the world and those who lead it
We just feel like we don’t have the means, to rise above and beat it.
So we keep waiting, waiting on the world to change.
We keep on waiting, waiting on the world to change.
It’s hard to be persistent, when you’re standing at a distance
So we keep waiting, waiting on the world to change.
So if we had the power to bring our neighbors home from war
They would have never missed a Christmas, no more ribbons on their door
When you trust your television, what you get is what you got
Cuz when they own the informaiton, they can bend it all they want.
That’s why we’re waiting, waiting on the world to change
We keep on waiting, waiting on the world to change
It’s not that we don’t care, we just know that the fight is there
So we keep on waiting, waiting on the world to change.
In light of your comments, what struck me this morning is that first, David is no longer waiting for the world to change, he’s going out and doing what he can, with the ‘means’ he has been given, to make a difference and fight the fight. And we have seen that it is working. And he is being ‘persistent’ because he’s not standing at a distance anymore.
I believe the world stood still for one minute and 30 seconds the night David first sang Imagine, in preparation for what would be coming from him -- changing the world, one song at a time. Dramatic? Yes. But nevertheless, true. When reading through the stories on the David is My Hero site, I’m always amazed at how almost every song David has sung has had special meaning to someone, somehow, even in a small way. And that is really how change is effected, bit by bit, little by little and for David and his fans, song by song.
Second thing: Even though David didn’t sing the second verse during his audition, how ironic are the lyrics about television, owning information, what you get is what you got (Cook’s win), they can bend it all they want. Ick.
So I’m left wondering -- how did he know? Did he know? The first time he opened his mouth for most of us, he was telling us what he was about and what was going to happen. He was telling us he wasn’t going to be phased by the media. He was telling us he was on a mission that he would be true to. And we got to see it from the start. Amazing.
I think this is my new favorite song. John Mayer, will you sing/write with David please?
scriptype -- I don’t know if it was so much that we weren’t as tech savvy as it was just not anticipating the need to go to such lengths. I voted on cell and land lines, but that kept me so busy I couldn’t vote online as well. I think they may have been able to get more help from their families and friends. I know my family wouldn’t help me, they just kept complaining that I was tying up the phones for two hours, and telling me, “you voted enough already, your vote doesn’t count anyway you know” smart alecks! I think they knew something I didn’t know. but it’s all good! I do agree with Rascal in that America loves an underdog, and if David A had won, he would have had an onslaught of venomous outlashings. It was much better this way, David could be gracious and humble and accept all of the great praise that came his way and show everyone how wonderful he is on the inside! Oh and by the way, who said we weren’t fanatical! LOL, just kidding, although……
rascal, you simply are the best when it comes to putting into words what we feel about David. I really hope he stays true to himself, humble, sweet, loving kid.
oh yes, archu adorable, I second, or third, or whatever that, John Mayer will you PLEASE work with David, that would be penultimate!!!!!! Two artists each with their own instrument (David with voice, John with guitar) that they wield in a spectacular way, laying it all out there, passionate about their instrument, and with similar personal agendas. I can’t think of anyone I would love for David to work with more than John Mayer.
An adendum to my comments above -- or David’s -- that as long as he did what he was supposed to he would go as far as he was supposed to… I was pondering this while I was mowing the lawn (ugh) and I have to add “for as long as God wants me to.” I feel that sometimes he “releases” us from a certain “calling” and asks us to serve in another area and it’s not because we did anything unworthy, just that there is time for change. I, for one, hope that David can do this all of his life as some other great ones have done because I do feel he has a great gift that will just get better with time.
I’ll work on the scriptures, tinuvial. My house is rather in need of attention as well… but I always count time spent pondering scriptures related to my life as worthwhile and never wasted.
One that keeps coming to mind is what Mordacai said to Esther: “and who knoweth whether thou art come to the kingdom for such a time as this?” Esther 4:14 Sorry, I spelled Mordecai wrong. Anyway, I believe that we have callings or missions in life and we often discover what they are as we discover our talents and use them for good. Mordecai was asking Esther to do something hard and dangerous to save her people and as he was asking her to consider going before the king to ask him to save her people, he posed the thought to her that maybe that’s why she was the queen. Maybe she had been helped to be in that position by God in order to be available to serve at that time. There’s always choice involved, but look at what good things happen when people choose to take the opportunities God gives them.
I LOVE seeing all those words to “waiting on the world to change.” I haven’t listened to pop music forever and it’s great that there are so many meaningful songs out there. Thanks for sharing those words.
archu_adorable -- I loved your comments about David and “Waiting on the World to Change.” I’m sure David chose that song for a reason…After all, we know that David is very careful about what he chooses to sing. Did he know that song would be so prophetic? I doubt it, but isn’t it amazing how very applicable it’s message was to his American Idol journey? David’s dad said on a local radio station that David never set out to be anything in particular or to prove anything by being part of AI, but quickly learned just how much a 1:30 minute song could impact so many people. If David didn’t know prior to his AI experience just how much his singing could change the world, he certainly does now.
ITTO -- I’m smiling, friend! I heard that interview too and actually wrote down what Jeff said -- Music has the power to break through all the layers we have built up for ourselves and penetrate to the very fibre of our being. That’s what has been at work everytime David sings.
I agree David did not know how applicable the words would be to what would be happening to him 10 months later. But when you’re guided by the right sources you can be prophetic without even knowing it!
We really have not seen the depth of David yet. There’s just no way we could have. My excitement is just brimming, ready to boil over so I can only imagine what will happen once that single of his drops. I will most likely need medical attention to be resuscitated all because of a young man’s voice.
How did this happen to ME??
Love this thread and the meaningful discussions about David and how he is changing the world. Although David never set out to be anything in particular or prove anything by being part of AI, it is true that he learned a lot about just how powerful his gift is after his experience on the show. I think that is a lot of what he was hoping to share with everyone with that fireside chat/concert that was canceled. He and his family probably recognized his God given gift early on and knew that God would want him to use it to do His work, but the magnitude to which he will be using this gift was obviously just realized as a result of AI. And because of God’s hand in this, I do think the selection of Waiting on the World to Change was not a coincidence (on God’s part), but might have been on David’s part. As David continues to move forward living out his new calling in life, I think we can expect to see more of these ironies where when you look back and choices David makes, they will all seem to fit into the big scheme of his mission and his calling.
daisychain -- #36 I agree with you, this is God given gift and I totally think he’s doing his part. I think that is what I like so much about him. I can sense his shy and unsure how it will be received. Aren’t we all. But, God can use anyone he wishes to point them towards light, hope and love. Even a shy young man with an unbelievably amazing voice. I listen to David’s voice and words and I always think of the source of those gifts (and for me that’s God). I have those same “deep thoughts” as you, but you have written them better than I could.
I have a feeling David is a “deep thinker” too. So we are all in good company.
Maybe it’s overkill, but I feel safe here so I’ll let you know
I think of David everytime I hear this song -- and I think he’s using his “hands”, so I best use my own “hands” as best I can.
HANDS -- Jewel
If I could tell the world just one thing
It would be that we’re all ok
And not to worry because worry is wasteful
and useless in times like these
I will not be made useless
I won’t be idled with despair
I will gather myself around my faith
for light does the darkness most fear
My hands are small, I know,
but they’re not yours they are my own
but they’re not yours they are my own
and I am never broken
Poverty stole your golden shoes
but it didn’t steal your laughter
And heartache came to visit me
but i knew it wasn’t ever after
We will fight, not out of spite
for someone must stand up for what’s right
cause where there’s a man who has no voice
there ours shall go singing
In the end only kindness matters
In the end only kindness matters
I will get down on my knees and I will pray
I will get down on my knees and I will pray
I will get down on my knees and I will pray
My hands are small, I know,
but they’re not yours they are my own
but they’re not yours they are my own
and I am never broken
My hands are small, i know,
but they’re not yours they are my own
but they’re not yours they are my own
and I am never broken
We are never broken
We are God’s eyes
God’s hands
God’s mind
We are God’s eyes
God’s hands
God’s heart
We are God’s eyes
God’s hands
God’s eyes
God’s hands
We are God’s hands
God’s hands
We are God’s hands
PS -- thanks rascal for this blog
Just popping in to share a few tidbits I came across – thought you might enjoy them
> Interesting piece regarding PR/marketing: http://www.radaronline.com/exclusives/2008/06/david-archuleta-pictures.php
I sort of like the first picture but I see what they mean about “first impressions” and needless to say, we on the this forum are well beyond first impressions. Hard to believe that for many, they will be meeting DA for the first time when his single is released and PR if well underway.
> We hear from Jeff! He’s plugging the show that was cancelled, but he speaks pretty intimately about their realization of the extent to which David has inspired others and David’s growth through the experience: http://www.sendspace.com/file/u1icoi
> Speaking of the integrity David has shown all season, I read somewhere that he considered singing “Got to get you into my life” during beatles week….until he learned that the song was referring to drugs. Haha. These moments are so precious and so profound at the same time, if that makes sense.
Been enjoying all your posts. Ditto on the gratitude to Rascal for this site!
Love the song, “Hands.”
Love the references to Star Wars. There are some great lessons in that movie.
Love the references to being a light to the world.
Love the posting on another website by someone to effect of “are we there yet?” Is the CD ready yet? I can think of so many songs I’d love to hear him sing. NOW!
Patience patience patience……….
Tinuviel just saw your response fromlast night. Busy morning-meeting at client’s office- client caught me singing along to David in my head “..whenever you need a friend… whenever you’re oh sorry Mr Smith, it’s just that i have this disorder…”
Thanks for the laugh on the ODD induced lack-of-a-life.
i have never heard Lara Fabian sing it but will check it out.
Thanks for everyone’s insightful comments around John Mayer etc. Intend to re-read all to night when I can truly soak it in.
no question David’s on a spiritual mission -- let’s all remember these early times and all that we felt -- you just know this is going somewhere other than just another great singer.
Josie #48 -- How did this happen to you? The same way it happened to all of us!! And I ask myself that same question everyday. But I feel good knowing that it only happens to those who listen for more than just a strong beat and loud lyrics in a song, and are vulnerable enough to allow the music to ‘break through all the layers.’
BTW, I heard you look about 28 and young men keep hitting on you. Is this true?!?
I am so thrilled that David has signed with Jive Records. He probably found out about that on the night of the finale. He is incredibly lucky because most of these so called singers from the show do not get record contracts. Look at Ace Young who was so popular on the show. To this day, I don’t think he has a contract yet and he has a wonderful today kind of voice plus loads of past experience in the music industry. Truthfully, only Kelly, Carrie, Clay and Daughtry have been the most successful and that is not much when you add up all the people involved in the last 7 seasons. I find it also amusing that some of the past idols have been dropped from their record companies. I am a Claymate and to this day, as popular and as great a singer as Clay has been, the radio stations will not play his songs. I am happy that Clay still makes albums, tv appearances, and he tours every year but I am also sad that so many haters out there just try to find dirt on him and make him look bad. He is a terrific humanitarian and goes all over the world to help others, not to mention the camps his charity helps fund for children with disabilities. Anyway, back to David-I find him so totally refreshing as an artist and I also adore his pure voice and the way he turns every song he sings into his own style. I have observed him changing his style and his personality in the 5 months that Idol was on tv. It has been remarkable and I do wish him the best in all of his endeavors. I just hope and pray that the people in his corner are very careful with him and that he does not suffer from the abuse that Clay has had to endure.
archu_adorable-ROTFL- and who might be spreading that little tidbit?? Ha! Vegas was a ton of fun
Oh, and I think my husband enjoyed it too….
I have said this before and I am very happy to say it again -- I have waited my whole life for this young man, unbeknownst to me and now that he’s arrived, my life is no longer my own- every day, upon waking and every night before my head hits the pillow, I MUST hear his voice.
I sure better figure out how to fill my days in the next few months.
H E L P !
David is in my head all the time -- night and day. I wonder how he is and what he’s doing. (Just like I do for own children). I know my production at work is down, but my ODD is up. I will make it up somehow (I think). I miss him -- alot. I really think there is nothing wrong with us (David addicts), it is just that now there is something really “right” with us!! “David”! Thanks for this wonderful place to come where we are all understood for our addiction. Will be back in often to see how everyone, including our David, is doing. Happy weekend everyone!
Hey all not sure where my first post was here and I’m more a reader then talker/poster anyway thought I’d add this for everyone.
The ladies of The View are taking their talkfest on the road this summer, broadcasting their show live (and in HD) from Sin City June 23-27.
In addition to the special location, Barbara and Co. have invited some serious talent to their Vegas party, including Amercian Idol winner
David Cook and runner-up David Archuleta. The boys will appear and perform on June 24.
Rascal, LOVE this site and your writing. Ever since I began listening to and loving Davids’ music, and learning more about him I have been thinking about sharing these lines with all you thoughtful folk;
Be Grateful- Be Smart- Be Clean- Be True- Be Humble- Be prayerful
I can about guarantee that somewhere in the Archuleta home there is a sign or poster featuring the “Six Be’s”! These 6 lines of counsel were given to the youth of Davids’ faith by a beloved leader who passed away earlier this year. If Archie is not a ‘poster child’ for the Six Be’s I don’t know who is! P. Hinckley would be oh so pleased!!
I think following this counsel is just one of the things that makes this kid soooo special, and will continue to help him be a brilliant ‘instrument’ in the Lords’ hands!
Thanks milvet -- with all my kids all I watch these days is Barney and Little Einstiens! I will mark my calendar.
Another sing of a great artist -- makes the admirers consider, debate, wonder about the most fundamental questions of life. Such an artist is David.
Josie -- we’ve all been waiting and didn’t even know it. I totally get it.
Good Night to all!
It’s so funny how everyone talks about their ODD. I can finally listen to “Think of Me”. I had such David withdrawals. I watch his performances over and over again, listen to a CD of all of the AI songs he did, Live and Studio Versions on my desk at work and then I listen to it again in the car. I’m crazy for him!!! And I’m 46! I think of him as a son. He has changed my life. He makes me be a better person. And his beautiful voice is always in my head.
Thank you Rascal for this site it is so good to be able to come together in one accord about our precious David.
To daisychain: I am really looking forward to reading those scriptures you have in your head. The Lord has me praying Isaiah 60:1-4 over David every morning. Arise and shine David Archuleta for your light has come! And the glory of the Lord is risen upon you. For behold, the darkness shall cover the earth and deep darkness the people, but the Lord will arise over you and His glory will be seen upon you. The Gentiles shall come to your light and kings to the brightness of your rising. Lift up your eyes all around and see: They all gather together, they come to you.
I have to go now but will be back later God bless David and all of ya’ll.
What teriffic comments!! I haven’t been able to get here all day- rats! I have listened to ‘A New Earth’ at least 4 times. Love the passage you wrote of here, musicao! I have thought of David in regards to Eckharts descriptions of the ego, and how he seems to have come to the planet without one. He seems to have come here with a deep desire to share his gifts and shed the light on what is really important in this world. Ram Dass said,
‘The power of one clear person who isn’t vulnerable or afraid is so transformative to the world. Don’t ever underestimate the power of the human heart. When I look deeply at the heart, what’s true through that doorway, I see an institution that makes the Pentagon look like childrens toys.’
Can David change the world with his voice? With his heart, his soul? Absolutely. We have all been given gifts to do just that. David’s gift makes any of my own seem so pale…It is so exciting to support somebody who has such powerful gifts! I can’t wait to hear what he has to say to the world.
So many here (all of us?), have commented on how suprising it has been to be so floored by this kid! I commented about other’s negative reactions regarding my ODD. It made me seek some answers as to why I felt so hurt by this…and I realized that I am not weird or somehow crazy for caring so much for David, someone I have never even met!
I am a Buddhist, and seeking to practice true compassion is part of my practice.
‘True compassion is the openness of the heart to feel another’s joy’s and sorrows’.
Isn’t that what we all are experiencing w/David, w/our genuine feelings of care and love that we have for him? How can that be weird or crazy?
Our culture certainly doesn’t nurture developing empathy or compassion for strangers, so we don’t get much help if we look there! I’m totally ok now w/my rampant ODD. Anything based on good intentions and love cannot be bad! I will sign off now w/this beautiful Christian poem(by the way, daisychain, tinuviel and any others who have commented about using Scripture to describe this David stuff, I can’t wait to see what you come up with!! I haven’t studied thi Bible for a long time, so I hope you can help to enlighten me!). Anyway, to the poem:
When the song of the angels is stilled;
when the star in the sky is gone.
When the Kings and Princes are home;
when the shepherds are back withe their flocks.
Then the true work of Christmas begins.
To find the lost,
to fix the broken.
To feed the hungry,
to release the prisoners
and rebuild nations.
To bring peace among brothers and sisters.
To find freedom in the world,
and to make music in the heart.
David is certainly making music in all of our hearts.
Hey, Rascal and other David-obsessed friends--I have some news I want to share! I wrote an e-mail to Dean Kaelin because I haven’t received the journal that he wrote during David’s American Idol experience, and it was supposed to be sent out June 2nd. He responded to tell me that there were a few typos discovered after the fact, and so it was being gone through to make any necessary corrections. It should go out in a few days.
When I wrote him, I mentioned that I was sorry to read that One Republic was writing songs for Cook instead of David whose voice and style would fit so much better with their music. I also told him that I heard an Atlanta radio interview of Natasha Bedingfield shortly after she was on American Idol in which she mentioned that she loved David Archuleta and would like to write a song for him, would like to do something for him. Lastly, I asked if David would be putting out a Christmas CD because I know how beautiful and inspiring it would be.
Here is what he told me: One Republic IS writing songs for David A.!! Harray! I am REALLY excited about that one!! I loved David’s duet with them! If anyone’s in the loop, it’s Dean, so I was excited to get that news.
He was unaware of what Natasha had said about wanting to write a song for David, and told me he would pass it on. (I did have a YouTube recording of the radio interview, but it’s been omitted so I couldn’t forward it to him. Bummer.) At least David will find out about what she said and hopefully will connect with her. That could be a BIG one coz she is hot stuff. I really like her music, and she has a style that is similar to David’s. Hope they get together because I would love to hear what they come up with.
Then, he told me that there will be NO CHRISTMAS ALBUM this year. David will start work on his first CD after the tour concludes so there will be no time to cut a Christmas CD. Darn it. Or, should say--Dang it!? After hearing the Christmas songs on YouTube and “Be Still, My Soul”, I can just imagine how wonderful it will be. Unfortunately, there will be none this year.
So, just wanted to catch everyone up on the news. One Republic writing songs for David, maybe something from Natasha, and regrettably, no Christmas album this year. How do ya like them apples!
) All in all, pretty good. One Republic wrote Leona Lewis’ big hit, “Bleeding Love”, so we should something really good. Go, David!
Oops, that should read “we should ‘get’ something really good.
Since so many are posting poetry here, thought I would share one I wrote the other night. I t describes how David makes me feel when he sings and what it feels like, at least for me to live with ODD. I just needed to get these feelings out and like many of you, this site is where I feel most at home.
You sang, straight to me.
Or so it felt,
Did you mean to?
You sang,
And a heavenly breeze rustled through the dry branches of my soul
And made it green and new.
You make me bloom, every day you are with me,
And you are always with me.
You sang, straight to me.
And whether you meant to or not,
Became a part of me.
I hear your voice
Even when you’re not singing.
It hums through my veins with every beat of my heart.
Did you mean to do that?
You sang,
Speaking so fluently in that universal language
I could not help but understand.
You were speaking to me, right?
If that’s what you meant to do,
Then that’s what you were meant to do.
Thanks, everyone, for your posts. I check out this sight daily. I can’t help it. Some may say that we are dreamers, but at least I’m not the only one.
Thanks for sharing every one!! I see parralels between Our David and King David of the scriptures… his ability to use his voice to calm and sooth the soul of those who are troubled, just like King David calmed Saul. When I hear David sing I feel such peace and hope.
It makes me so happy that I am not alone in my addiction.
I LOVE DAVID!
Love the poem. That’s beautiful.
Love the Six “B’s”. When he expanded his talk to a little book, “Way to Be,” Gordon B. Hinckley expanded them to 9.
Be Grateful
Be Smart
Be Involved
Be Clean
Be True
Be Positive
Be Humble
Be Still
Be Prayerful
Be involved is about working, Be Still is about taking time to meditate or ponder, Be Clean is about having clean thoughts, actions, being careful what you watch, avoid pornography, being chaste.
So, when you do all those things, look what you become? An awesome person.
So, still working on the scripture deep thoughts. When I very first learned that David was being called an angel or that he sang like an angel and that people were feeling incredible feelings in their hearts while he sang, then I thought of this scripture: “Angels speak by the power of the Holy Ghost.” The verse before talks about how after you have received the Holy Ghost you can speak with the tongue of angels. I think you can add “sing” in parenthases next to speak. So this is in the Book of Mormon and I can’t find one similar off hand in the bible -any help? Would love to knowit to cross reference.
If you’d rather I stick to the Bible, I will……… just love that one, though. I don’t want to be preachy -- just want to share what stikes a chord. I was reading In Jeremiah 1 -- just the first few verses -- and it made me cry. David is not a prophet and he’s just trying to be a kid who shares his love of music, as he Dad said, so I’m trying not to make this into more than it is, but when you get to verse 8 and remember what David said about the judge’s faces, it’s almost humorous….
Jeremiah 1:4 Then the word of the Lord came unto me, saying,
Before i formed thee in the belly i knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations.
Then said I, Ah, Lord god! bBehold, I cannot speak: for I am a child.
But the Lord said utno me, Say not, I am a child: for thou shalt go to all that I shall send thee, and whatsoever I command thee thou shalt speak.
Be not afraid of their faces: for I am with thee to deliver thee, saith the Lord.
Okay, so that’s it for tonight. You can say “ENOUGH ALREADY” if that’s more than what you want to hear. I really think about things a lot. If there’s an LDS ODD sympathizer who wants to chat a bit on email, I’d be interested. Meanwhile, I’m working on light and music. Love the Isaiah scripture mentioned above. There are lots of good ones on light. Light does shine from/through Archie when he sings…….
Okay, just one more, I can just hear David thinking this because he’s kind of shyly indicated it in an interview, but I don’t think he’s comfortable completely verbalizing this yet, but I think this is something he would say:
“behold my joy is full, yea, my heart is brim with joy, and I will rejoice in my God. Yea, I know that I am nothing; as to my strength I am weak; therefore I will not boast of myself, but I will boast of my God, for in his strength I can do all things…”
Sorry for all the typos -- it’s hard to correct this.

This morning in the San Francisco Chronicle, Mark Morford wrote a column about Barack Obama. You can go to SFgate, columnist,06/06/08 to read the entire article. Titled “Don’t get Obama? It’s OK-just keep moving toward the light” reminded me so much of or DJ and why we feel as we do. To quote (I’m editing as well only because Morford is wordy an my typing skills are lacking) “What’s the big deal about Obama? …The appeal, the draw, the ethereal thing that keeps drawing millions of people…no. it’s not merely youthful vigor of handsomeness or even inspiring rhetoric…It’s something more. …a sort of powerful luminosity, a high-vibration integrity. Here’s where it gets gooey. many spiritually advanced people (not coweringly religious…identify Obama as a Lightworker…who can help usher in a new way of being on the planet, of connecting with this bizarre earthly experiment…they reignite the soul. …there simply is no denying that extra kick…there’s a vast amount of positive energy that’s been held back…and this energy has found a new lightning rod…People and emotions and ideas of high and positive vibration are automatically drawn to him, because it is clear he is of the same material.
My husband thought I was nuts when I made the connection, saying that DJ was “just a singer” and not as influential as a world leader. I reminded him that it’s not the magnitude or the stage your thrust upon but the truth in what you’re doing. the power in being who you are, the simplicity of honesty. We ended our discussion by him remembering his tearful response to “Imagine”. He might be getting it. Just a little.
Okay, let me start by saying that I began my reading at 7:00 p.m., but had to stop by the demands of my family. I thought I would be the only one at this time writing, but I guess I am not alone.
Having said that, Annette: your poem was beautiful. Daisychain: loved your scripture more than I can say. Thank you both for sharing your thoughts.
I was listening to David’s songs while reading all of your wonderful comments. Like many of you ODD’ers, I wake up singing DA songs every morning. One day is ‘Think of me’, another day is ‘Love me Tender’, by the afternoon it might be ‘In this moment’, and so it goes. What can I say?
As I listened to ‘When you believe’, the thought came to me about how David was ‘moving mountains long before’ he knew he could. He sings ‘who knows what miracles you can achieve when you believe’. Well, miracles are happening. He IS on a mission right now, and who knows what miracles he will achieve. He believes he needs to stand for what is right, he is moving forward with faith and thus, making a much needed difference. I do believe his spirit is more powerful than his voice.
I was naturally drawn to support him, me being LDS too, but I fell in love with him the minute he sang Imagine, choosing not to sing the first verse. Then I saw him applauding his friends when Simon had just called them ’19 other miserable contestants’, when he could have just soak in the moment that was his, he chose to pay tribute to the group. What an unselfish humble kid! Then he sang ‘Another day in Paradise’ because of its “great message”. Next I heard him answer in an interview that he does not lie and does not cheat. The following week I discovered his ‘dang it’, his ‘gosh’, clearly showing not only he’d been taught well, but that he’d chosen to follow those teachings. Then I applauded him when he sat in the middle of the stage determined to not choose the group with the most votes. I mean it was one thing after another and right before my eyes, “Oh my gosh, Ashley”, I found myself telling my 12 year old, this is the kind of young men I hope you grow up to be: one who knows what is right, no fear of choosing it, and brave enough to withstand the mockery from those who cannot understand.
Drawn by youtube, I started reading the comments from his fans, how they feel when they hear him, how much better they want to be as a person, how his music makes them happy, etc., etc. Because of his example, there are those who have asked about his faith; many admire his integrity, his determination to choose the right regardless of the setting; others are motivated to, at the very least, be better; most are drawn to his music; many cannot explain it.
WOW! Moving mountains? moving souls!. Miracles? you bet!
And just because he believed. I believe too. Like Gracie#67 quoted: Some may say that we are dreamers, but at least I’m not the only one.
David Archuleta, you are a champion, a true hero.
Janey, #70, I enjoyed that mention of the article about the Obama appeal vis a vis David, and the notion of Lightworkers in this world. Wow, that’s so great to hear of that kind of report appearing in mainstream media. Indeed, there is SO much good being held in “vibrational escrow” (to quote an Abraham concept), and David is really poised to unleash that energy-- to pull out all the stops for us to enjoy a headlong rush “down the waterfall” of joy and positive emotion.
Another thing—I’ve been harboring this fantasy for a few weeks, so I’ll share it. I’m dreaming of Obama getting elected and David singing at the inauguration! Now THERE’S a dream team!!
OK, you brave souls who have shared your beautiful poetry have inspired me to add mine.
The Alchemist
This is the time of our lives
a time of joy and innocence
This is the time of return
with the kiss of life on your lips
All the rage and confusion
that battles outside my door
falls in silence to hear your song
And I find myself wanting more
Chorus
For the magic wand you hold
like an alchemist, turns the leaden world to gold
And my simple boat into a crystal ship
that sails across the night
to a new day.
I lift my senses to touch you
and where your vision stretches,
you bring new sight
like the first light of the day
You pour your fire like water
over the thirsty plains
and deep inside my soul
An ancient love unwinds
Chorus
For the magic wand you hold
like an alchemist, turns the leaden world to gold
And my simple boat into a crystal ship
that sails across the night
to a new day.
Everything becomes alive
when your breeze breathes life into it
All the parched twigs green
and grow to their full height
In your life I see it all unfold
like a drop of elixer in water
That ripples to infinity
and purifies us all
Chorus
For the magic wand you hold
like an alchemist, turns the leaden world to gold
And my simple boat into a crystal ship
that sails across the night
to a new day,
a new day….
You are a new day.

David, you are the alchemist of our souls.
Thank you!

Bookaholic (#64) -- I’m so glad that you posted that news about One Republic writing for David because that’s now a confirmation of something I read on Elliott Yamin’s message board earlier today. There was a poster over there (harleywoman) that went to Elliott and Josh Hoge’s concert on Tuesday night and Josh Hoge told the audience that he and Ryan Tedder (lead singer of One Republic) are writing a song for David. I have been hesitant to post anything about it for fear is was mere speculation, but it sounds like Dean has essentially confirmed it is true in the email he sent you! I’m so happy to hear the news.
Here’s the link to harleywoman’s post (it’s about 3/4 of the way down the page):
http://etrainstation.com/index.php?showtopic=15672&st=5550
wow all the great thoughts overnight awesome.
bookaholic we need to find bigsky for this news about tedder, I hope she reads it. I for one am soooooo thrilled. I loved, I mean really loved that performance, so this is very exciting. I’m relieved for the work to begin after the tour, I was wondering how much work this guy could get done while touring, let him relax ya know. Glad about the Christmas thing too, he’s only 17, he has a whole lot of time. So thanks again.
Great news about Ryan Tedder writing for David! Also on a chat last night, ‘Jazzman’ — someone very close to David — suggested that David has been recording demos of songs this week — many of which are Christmas songs. I don’t know about timing, but it sounds as though a Christmas CD could be in the works after all. Am I the most selfish fan ever to want a holiday AND non-holiday CD this year?
And at least one CD a year from now on into infinity?
Janey 70 highervibe 72 For weeks I’ve held back from drawing this connection between David and Obama because I didn’t want to stir any political discussion here. We all know how they can get. I’m sure I’m not alone in this.
But I now feel compelled ..will try not to incite any fighting. I want to believe that Obama’s the real deal. I want to believe that he represents the dawning of something new for the USA. (or something really old –a return to those ideals.) I want to believe that he is like David, the truth for all to see, with no hidden agenda. If Obama is truly “working with the light” and he were to be elected, we would see a fast forwarding to more enlightened times. Ultimately the USA would become God’s instrument for good around the world.
But the reality around who runs the show in the US is overwhelming. Even if Obama now believes in the bright new landscape he describes so passionately, I fear and, that would all change should he be elected President. He would be up against entrenched forces whose crushing indifference to all concerns but their own, proves historically to override all attempts at positive change. Their lot is greed and profit, sowing misery and suffering on such a grand scale that it can only be described as evil. (not saying that profit or wealth is bad per se) They undermine American’s attempts to better their own country and the world.
Wanting so much to believe however, makes me root all the way for Obama. Even if his time in office could be used to bring about some slow positive changes, it would be far preferable to what we’ve had decade after decade. I say we, although I’m Canadian. Any major socio-political change in the US has a profound effect on Canadians.
So yeah, I want Obama in the White House and I want David to sing at his inauguration. And I really want Obama and David to spend some time talking. He can’t help but be affected by David’s singing and that would certainly lead him to want to speak to David personally. If Obama is truly made of the substance that so many of us hope he is, he will be deeply affected by that meeting. Obama can only draw some of the same conclusions that we have.
David can be the touchstone that reminds Obama to stay true to his ideals.
Sounds like a fantasy but no one can deny the connection between two people who have simultaneously risen to prominence, and who appear to share some of the same ideals. If all is aligned towards what’s right and good David’s and Barrack’s meeting seems like an inevitability.
Sorry to rant a little but I’ve been holding back a long time.
Highervibe 75 The Alchemist -thanks so much beautiful!
OK, I just have to say -- WOW.
I see Buddists, Mormons, Catholics, Evangelicals, all religions actually, people with no formal religion or even atheists, democrats, republicans, men, women, can’t say for sure about race, but I’m sure we’ve got lots as well as many nationalities represented, gay, straight, young, old . . . . all drawn to, loving, being inspired by and rallying around David.
Sounds like a brotherhood of man to me. What do you think?
My intent was not to start a political per se but to draw a correlation between the way people feel about these two, that the world is ready for the messengers of positive change. Really ready. I believe why these two are so inspirational to so many is 1) because we need it, the world has been a messy place for awhile, 2) their public persona is basic, what you see is what you get, 3) the “vibrational escrow”, thanks, highervibe, account is about to burst. Cynical critics in all forms have controlled the media whether it be entertainment, politics. It’s been cool to be angry, condescending, blaming someone or something else for our ills. These guys make it cool to let your best self come forward. For some of us it will be in very small ways, others will have greater impact. It’s all good.
Janey -- re your article about Obama and your husband’s comments. Unfortunately, (or fortunately?) sometimes singers and other celebrities DO have much more influence on a personal level than world leaders. I’m intrigued by what was written about Obama. Let’s hope it’s real. My yogi friend keeps telling me that the universe is moving towards a higher-vibrational plane. She’s been right about everything else so I tend to believe her on this one as well!
I think the ‘Lightworker’ phrase to describe David is FABULOUS! It’s perfect. Yesterday I finally had the guts to edit the Finale results show on my DVR and I saw again the absolute serenity and light that David brought to the stage everytime he appeared. His eyes were on fire and he was on another plane, just like he had been the night before. And the contrast with others-who-won’t-be-named (at least to me) was glaring.
And on that same note -- hurray for Tedder writing a song for David!! That has been rumoring around for awhile. The fact that Diane Warren and Tedder are writing for him (and that Natasha wants to duet with him) gives me more confidence that he will not be pushed into the tween mold or into the Josh Groban mold. In fact, can we please just call a moratorium on the Josh Groban comparisons? (Just me again -- it really irks me:)
Archu-adorable, I’ve thunk the same thoughts. I wonder how many of the Buddhists, Mormons, agnostics, Demoncrats, Canadians, gays, women, teens etc. are idealists at heart? I am, and he gives me such hope!
!!
Loved your thoughts, panamom. Beautifully expressed.
Saturday morning, rainy Utah, and I think David’s off to California today, if he hasn’t gone already. I was wondering how he logistically does that now. Leave in the wee hours? Special entrance? I think a lot about logistics of things -- one of my quirks. When I would find out the theme for the week on American Idol, I’d go to the library and check out CD’s to see if I could figure out what songs I could picture David singing. You know, that’s hard! When you consider how fast they had to decide on a song, learn it, rehearse it, perform it, they gave amazing performances. And when I think about how little time they had that last week to learn three songs for the finale and ??? songs for the results show, plus commercials, plus choreography, plus school, plus mentoring meetings. Well, I just say WOW! Take a bow for that alone! The Tuesday night performance seems even more miraculous.
Hurray for good people helping David with his songs. Can’t wait, can’t wait, can’t wait.
Okay, got to do Saturday chores. Got to find the mp3 player -- helps make the work pleasant when I have David serenading me. That’s a good thing.
Thanks for all the great poems. Beautiful food for thought.
arch_adorable that 1 minute 30 seconds that changed the world. A brotherhood of man for real! One day and I hope it’s soon, those who have joined us in the “light brigade” will outnumber the cynics and pessimists. Nothing can stop this wave.
Janey -- I realize you had no intention of starting a political discussion- it’s just that that rant of mine was right at the surface waiting to bust out. Just the mention of Obama on this blog, tipped me over.
Hey Kait #70 not selfish at all. Just as long as the double length cd with all the soul searing original work, aaaand the special release loaded with killer duets and “early” rarities come out first. (haha)
PS one of my fave Stones tunes from way back in the 60′s is “Tell Me” I can really hear David changing that up into a DA knockout track
I am just so jazzed by this ‘brotherhood’ we have bourne here!! It is beautiful to connect w/so many who share not only the light of David, but are seeking it in all areas of their lives! What an exciting time to be alive!!
I decided last night that I am going to contact Oprah and share this site and some of the comments w/her. As most of you probably know, she has been on a mission of her own, trying to raise spiritual awareness through books, interviews, teachers etc. I would love for her to see how we are responding to this shy little Mormon kid w/the beautiful voice! I would be thrilled for David to have her in his corner. She can be a force to be reckoned with, and her scope of influence is enormous! If she were to interview him, I wonder what she would ask, assuming she were familiar w/his fans view of him? (maybe Obama and David could be interviewed together! Ha!).
I honestly don’t know what the Archuleta’s would think of this idea, however. Oprah is not praised by all, some see her as the “anti-Christ”, I have heard. I don’t know, maybe I shouldn’t write to her…Any thoughts?
By the way, don’t mean to brag or anything, but I was born on Dec. 28th too! Plus I run. Unfortunately, that’s where I will have to end the comparison…Ha Ha Ha!!
there really is no end to this ODD, is there? just like panamom#71, i find myself amazed at things David did, song selections, interviews, candid remarks about his fellow AI competitors.just wanna share to share with u good people, that this i didn’t see this before during AI, but now, David can use his song selections during AI to sing at charity events and appropriately so! Cook just CANNOT use his stuff as they just became invalid and expired outside the AI arena. Imagine singing HLAW or Billie Jean or Hello at hospitals… ha ha just kidding
p/s: panamom, i think u forgot the “where did they park?” and “that skin, dang it” which made me fall in love with David more than i ever was before! it is so crazy. i really really miss this young man….
Naturgirl and daisychain, just commenting on your posts, #59 and #69. We just finished reading the book ‘Way To Be’ by Gordon B. Hinckley with our kids. It is geared toward teenagers, but it applies to people of all ages. Gordon B. Hinckley is one of the great spiritual leaders of all time. It is written in a non-denominational way and reflects a lot of the thoughts and values represented here. Here is an excerpt from the conclusion of the book:
“You have such a tremendous responsibility, you young men and young women. You are the products of all of the generations that have gone before you. All that you have of body and mind has been passed to you through your parents. Someday you will become parents and pass on to succeeding generations the qualities of body and mind which you have recieved from the past. So very much depends on you. You are so very precious.
“You can have a good time. Of course you can! I want you to have fun. I want you to enjoy your life. I do not want you to be prudes. I want you to be robust and cheerful, to sing and dance, to laugh and be happy.
“But in so doing, be humble and prayerful, and the smiles of heaven will fall upon you.
“I could wish for you nothing better than that your lives be fruitful, that your service be dedicated and freely given, that you contribute to the knowledge and the well-being of the world in which you live, and that you do it humbly and faithfully before your God. He loves you. I love you. I believe in you. And I want you to be happy and successful, to make significant contributions to the world.
“These, then are my nine Be’s: Be Grateful, Be Smart, Be Involved, Be Clean, Be True, Be Positive, Be Humble, Be Still, Be Prayerful.
“There thay are, nine Be’s which, if observed, will bring handsome dividends to any young man or woman. They will add sparkle to your days and peace to your nights. They will save you from heartache and pain. They will bring purpose into your life and give direction to your energies.
“They will bring you friends and protect you from associations that would pull you down and deflect you from your course.”
(Gordon B. Hinckley Way To Be)
No doubt David is very familiar with this advice. Thanks for letting me share.
Skimming through comments this am -- will have to read in depth later. Just wanted to add that I am a straight, Mormon, female Democrat who is thrilled with Obama and David. Early in the competition I shouted to my husband, “It’s gonna be Obama and Archuleta this year!” But what I really wanted to say is how I LOVE the mix of people and beliefs here in Rascal’s room. I love how David has brought us together and inspires such intelligent thought and discussion and I deeply value every one of you and the differences you bring. This is what the Light is all about. I hope and pray that we will see more more more of this in our nation and world.
I wanted to post this around:
“I saw this post at Ricky’s posted by “Indomass”:
Hi Kristi, Hi Inspired! Hi all the Angels!
Have I got ODD News for ya’ll! So I went out to a club last night with some friends and we were dancing it up…around 1am…guess what the DJ played?
“THINK OF ME SONIC ETHER MIX!!!!
I was so excited! LoL~ And the song was actually quite well recieved…it being New York and all and its a broadway song. Plus I know New Yorkers love David Archuleta…people knew the voice right away. But everyone got down and danced to it.
Just wanted to share that fun news with everyone
Bookaholic…. wow, great news about One Republic writing a song for David! I hope it will have the same vibe/sound that Apologize has. David’s voice was surprisingly strong and rich in his lower register on that song. He just sounded amazing.
I, too, have not so much an interest in the political, in the sense of politicizing this conversation--that’s way not my intention--as I do in the seemingly inexplicable effects of David’s presence. I get that that is what Obama brings to the table as well, and am thrilled that there is such an opening in consciousness that would even allow this line of thinking! It’s just a wondrous thing to behold, the purity and authenticity that radiates from those whose mission is clearly to bring goodness and ease of well-being back to the world stage for all players.
As for the detractors, of which there are bound to be some LOUD ones, I say pay them no mind. As Morford suggested (I guess? the headline was curiously changed before I got there), “…keep walking towards the light.” (Love that!) What your mind focuses on becomes your reality, so black white blue male female, spiritual or no--all!--let’s just go where David is headed and not look back!!
Boy, I’m sure enjoying the ride there!
Hey elannbo — My birthday is Dec. 26. That made me wonder—how many here are Capricorns like David? I don’t know if any believe in the zodiac stuff, but (for me) it’s amazing how similar David’s personality is to mine (although he is a much better person than I ever will be). I think this is what led to my ODD. I feel like he’s my little brother--and I relate to him more than my own siblings. Like there’s a connection between our souls. Even though I’ve never met him, it seems like I “know” him. It’s weird and hard to express. Anyway, I’m a fan for life and can’t wait for his CD to come out.
Gracie, thank you for sharing all of that. He says it all, doesn’t he? Gosh, I miss him. I think it’s time to read it again as a family.
Please…I meant to post on another topic today, but I was so taken aback by the sudden introduction of the political into the above posts that it stopped me in my tracks. I’d like to ask that at least for a while some posters would show the empathy and understanding that I think David would show and realize that for certain Democrats like me, these last few days have been a very painful time. I believe that this rich, intelligent and enjoyable discussion of David’s musical genius can continue without the inclusion of a political result from which David’s music and the discussion of it has been helping me to mourn and recover. Thank you.
I agree with your thoughts, Isabella. David’s fans are from both political parties, and as was mentioned by archu_adorable, from all walks of life. While everyone is obviously entitled to share their opinions, I think that it’s probably best to not delve into talking politics as there’s a good risk of “muddying the waters.” I’d prefer to stick to talking about David!
Hi All -- Haven’t been able to check in for several days. Love all the info and being able to catch up with all things David by just reading Rascal’s site and all your comments.
#30 Musicao -- love your transformational thoughts and reference. Hit a chord.
I enjoy the varying perspectives and backgrounds of everyone commenting. It gives a 360 picture in the positive.
Seem to have my ODD under better management this week. Some things have dropped into place in this ODD puzzle I find myself in. Being a fan somehow seems so limited and too self-absorbed for me--doing something for my community is where I am at now. So, the transformational effect is it for me--that is “why now” and “why this.” “Why me” for ODD remains a puzzle because my life for, the most part, has been filled with amazing opportunties and fulfillment and I’ll find that answer when it happens. What a journey--”aint’ being human a scream!”
Hi to all new posters.
93 and 94 no offence intended. The negative elements I spoke of serve themselves -- ther’s no real political affiliation.
Having said that it seems the check I held myself in over the last weeks was a wiser choice. Point taken.
Again no offence intended.
No worries, musicao. We’re all friends here.
ODD alert.
I was checking chatroom at fanblast and found that Jeff Archuleta had chatted last night. The transcript can be read by clicking on “jazzman” at the right top of the front page. His online name is “jazzman” for this chat.
Jazzman -- makes sense
Back to David, I went so far as to watch one of the dreaded interviews on EW. I was watching “the one who shall remain nameless”‘s face while David was talking about how he likes to read the Billboard books. Sleezy’s remark was like he was talking to a 2 year old, “oh, your like interested in following music” something like that. I would like to wack Sleezy over the head and make him realize David exudes music, he lives music, it is his love, it’s in his soul. I just found it super hilarious how he was so clueless. Anyways, David’s smile and love of all things music was a joy to see and I miss seeing that every week.
Total ODD withdrawal.
Take Care All.
I just wanted to add that I read the transcript of the chat on Fanblast with “Jazzman” and I was extremely intrigued by the comments he made regarding Davis’s song choices. This guy has an obvious background in music in the way he analyzes David’s interpretations of songs but the most important thing he said was that David has to “feel” a song to perform it well. From what I could understand from my own experiences -- its as if he literally has to feel the heartbeat of a song and crawl inside in order to then connect outward to others. If a song has heavy bass line or drums he struggles with them e.g Sweet Caroline. That’s probably why in many of his song choices he preferred acoustic versions when possible. That is probably a small part of David’s secret as to why we all get affected by his performances.
#100 -- Very interesting!!!
During the AI season the songs that were louder, with more bass and more instruments and he had no earpiece, I could swear his bouncing around was to keep beat with the music because he couldn’t hear himself very well and therefore harder to “feel” the song. But, those last three performances, he was totally into them, had lots of instrumental back up AND an earpiece. Did I mention, One Republic duet, earpiece too, (SMOOTH, SMOOTH, SMOOTH). But I really enjoyed the acoustic stuff, just as much. As Masterclasslady said, instrumentally naked on stage. WOW!!
Again, Total ODD withdrawal. Revisiting the past, but really excited about the future!!!
Speaking of the EW 3-part interviews, I thought that David was articulate and funny and I think think they should be mandatory reading for everyone. I really enjoyed the part about the rainbows.
joymus #100, did you read #98 that said jazzman was David’s father. I forgot to point you to that post, didn’t look like you might have caught it.
collegemom -- rainbow thing was funny, did you catch that David said that is the way he was “portrayed”. He’s so smart, he gets it, and I think Mr. Sleezy is going to be very surprised, although he may not admit it. I don’t know. I was also FLOORED, that during one idolatry episode, he actually said he couldn’t see David A. as being a relevant musical artist -- AAAAGGHHHH! I lost it, just about fell out of my chair. He has no earthly idea what he was talking about!! And I’m just a normal person and he’s talking about the music David is going to make, shoot I know more than this guy and I DO talk to 2 year olds all day.
Anyhow, I think I’m done for tonight. Rascal -- miss your insights (hint, hint)
Good night all!!
#101+ 103,
Yes I did get that Jazzman was David’s father. You are right about the bouncing around because I forgot to add that his dad also mentioned the inear moniters helped him considerably because he felt much more confident that he could feel and hear songs. I can’t tell you just how much I want to understand more and more of his artistry because he possesses an obvious musical intelligence that is beyond the norm. Not to bash DC but looking on other forums he is seemingly setting himself up as a sex symbol between “steamy” picture spreads and the publicity following his relationship with KC.
I just had to stop by, catch up and say hi to my ODD family. I love the comment about a brotherhood of men. In other blogs David is being called World Idol, and they even have a world map showing where all the visitors are coming from. I write from Panama, but feel this brotherhood as if I was in one big room with all of you, all entering the portal, joined by this universal language, truly believing the world deserves better, excited and happy for somebody we don’t know, but have fell in love with, enjoying every minute of it.
hanariffin#85: I could have add more things that amaze me about David James, but last night at 2:30 a.m. I realized my email was too long, but, yes, seeing him so touched by the amount of people that showed up at the mall, him wondering how many people were going to come, his excitement as he got closer to the school, the way he makes fun of himself (his hand when he sings, the rainbows appearing behind him)…well, don’t get me started.
I am so excited. Love this brotherhood, LOVE THIS ODD.
David: wish you the best during the tour and “make sure they understand it”
To Panamom, I love your #71 and #105. It is exactly what I am feeling and what I observed about David. He is truly a remarkable kid. There are also many other thoughts on my mind, but these have been expressed by many other eloquent fellow ODD on this blog.
For the time being I am just contented to read all these amazing expressions of admiration for David and expressions of concern for his well being. David is very lucky to have a champion in Rascal and many adoring fans.
I am on the other side of the globe but I can feel all this fire of passion from the fans and the remarkable loving kindness David is radiating to the universe.
I read this site first thing in the morning after breakfast and before going to bed. I am putting here this humble comment of mine to show that I am still around supporting David and no doubt will be till the end of my existence on this planet. He is the first musical artist to affect me in such magnitude. He practically took over my life after I listen and watch him sings since the audition. But it is sweet surrender for me!!
I am feeling so blessed and I am looking forward to his first album which I wish will come sooner than indicated.
Hey everyone! Great to get home and reconnect w/my ODD family. I wrote to Oprah tonight, and asked her to give David the stage and the interview that will tell the world what is important about this amazing person. I had to rewrite it over and over because of character limitations, and you know how easy it can be to go on and on and on about David! I asked her to come here and see for herself the effect he is having on people around the globe. I told her about this incredibly diverse group that has come together to share poetry, Scripture, dharma, personal stories, all because of this shy little Mormon kid with the blinding light of spirit surrounding him and everything he touches! I told her that the media has really missed the bus when it comes to telling David’s story. It’s not about winning or not winning, it’s not about song choice, it’s not about his dad or any of it! It’s about an amazing human being, who at just 17 years old, is bent on using his life to help and inspire others. And he is already doing it. And he’s just getting started. And there are so many reasons to be excited!! I told her that many of us would be willing to crawl to Chicago just to meet him in person and be able to thank him for changing our lives. And that we would have to come up w/a spectacular gift for him….I’m sure he is already scheduled to appear on her show at some point. It is my hope that being aware of the effect David is having on us all will inspire her to give an interview that will share his beauty with everyone who hasn’t had the chance to be moved by it. She reaches so many people! (Ok, it could mean a few more cd sales too….that’s fine by me!). Well there’s one more thing I just did that I never have before. I wrote to Oprah Winfrey and begged her to interview David Archuleta. And it’s way past my bedtime, and I spent most of my work day rewriting the letter over and over in my head. Definite ODD. I’ll keep you all posted as to whether I ever hear back from her staff. Maybe we could all charter a plane to Chicago….Rascal! You in?
Yea!! YEAAAAA!!! Finally read the news about Ryan Tedder writing for David… What a fantastic collaboration that will be.
In the spirit of trying to keep my posts short (so that Rascal doesn’t have to deal with exceeding bandwidth, etc), I’m going to make my few “.02 cent” comments, and then TRY to get some sleep! LOL
1. One last HOORAY for Ryan Tedder… o.k…. moving on..
2. Did you guys know that Ryan was raised by Missionary parents? I thought that was interesting. I love his voice, and am not only an Archie fan, but a One Republic fan as well now (I could still be his MUCH older sister, but thankfully not his mother).
3. About politics.. As the wife of a soldier (and one amazing man), if we could make this a politco-free zone, I would be so grateful -- I’m a bit pooped out on political bickering or posturing right now. It’s refreshing to come here and not think about our divided country, global warming, the price of gas, or war for just a few minutes.
Thanks.
elannbo, I wrote to Oprah many weeks ago and was considering writing again. Repeated requests seem to get their attention. Keep writing. See you in Chicago!
archu_adorable, Thank you for “the brotherhood of man”. Wow.
bigsky, God bless you and your husband. Thank you both for your sacrifice.
My sincere hope, in the spirit of David, is that our respect for one another transcends out differences. Let us all gather hope and positive energy from whatever source and use it to connect, bring a smile, make someone’s day a little brighter.
Hello Everyone! Long time lurker, first time poster. Rascal, I have been impressed with your talent for articulation & elegant writing since the beginning (at Rickey’s site). You reminded me of Neal A. Maxwell. Thank you for this site. I appreciate everyone’s thoughtful and intelligent comments about David’s artistry. It had made me feel safe to also express my love and appreciation for this wonderful and talented young man. I was reading Dean Kaelin’s journal on David’s journey on Idol the other day and I am impressed to learn that David took the time out of his busy schedule to listen (over the internet) to the April General Conference for our church. This is a semi-annual meeting where LDS (mormons) from all over the world get the chance to hear our church leaders speak to us on various topics, and they are spiritually uplifting. It’s interesting that I was thinking about him during that time too and wondered if he gets the chance to listen to the conference and how unfortunate that David will miss all these wonderful talks. I’m glad he didn’t miss it. I realized then that David is spiritually mature for his age and a deep thinker because he’s an avid seeker of truth and listens to the counsels of wise men. Most importantly, he understand and applies the principles he learns in his own life that they become part of his nature. David does “get” it and he continues to amaze me. If he prove and continue to be the person that I think he is, he will be a force to be reckon with and a powerful instrument in God’s hands.
I check in before I go to bed and now I will end my day with tears at the community David has wrought. I get as many chills reading these posts as I do listening to David.
Just a thought -- if you write to Oprah, mention the David is My Hero website -- just another place she can find out what is happening.
bigsky -- so glad you got this Tedder news!!! Did not know he was raised by missionaries. Also, THANK YOU to you and your husband for all he is doing. We can never really understand the toll this all takes on a family. You and your family have amazing strength! (okay no more politics, just want to say thanks)
I was thinking about the comment a couple of threads ago about Close Encouters, and the chosen few thing. If we use that analogy, and we are those chosen few, and David gets on Oprah (which he will, I’m sure, I mean hello) do we as the “chosen few” get great seats and get to come! You have know idea to what lengths I would go to get there.
Rascal and everyone who wrote in -- put in a good word for us “chosen few” if/when it comes up okay!! (remember -- my login is THATMANCANSING, because he really isn’t a boy anymore)
Many Blessings All!
I will keep bothering Oprah…My original letter to her was several pages, and I had to pare it down to next to nothing to fit it in the space allowed. How can one possibly share enough about David in just a few paragraphs to really hit the point home? I amd going to write every day and give new info for her to look up, watch on youtube, etc….I am also going to pimp us all out as wonderful guests. So, seriously, think about what kind of gift we could come up with for David! Whether we get to meet him on Oprah or not, what could we give him to show him how much he means to us all?
steveb- I don’t know much about the zodiac. I do know that Capricorns set goals and work doggedly to accomplish them, and we can see that in David for sure! I run ultramarathons, and am training for the Leadville Trail 100 Mile in August…David will be with me on my IPod I can assure you! (I have a feeling that I will be hearing his voice at times when my IPod isn’t even on…)! Are Capricorns supposed to be creative? I am an ok painter, while David is a savant….What other traits are you aware of? Loyalty? Sense of humor? What else?
Someone mentioned reading about Cook and what his fans are up to. I realized that one advantage to AI being over, is that I no longer am on sites where I am bombarded w/Cookies bashing David all the time! What a relief!! I really have nothing against Cook, but find it no suprise that his focus is on selling his single, and attracting Cougars and all other forms of hotties…not on singing for troubled youth, etc…Just how unfair is it, anyway, that his single is the only AI download available, and they are going on and on about Cookie and his mega-selling hit? Did you know that you can’t even download any AI ringtones on Att site other than Cookie’s? They really want their man to come out on top, don’t they?
Thanks for all of the great comments and insights!! Rascal, where are you, and what do you think of everything you started? Did you have any idea it would come to this?! Thank you for giving us refuge!
Yes, Rascal, your wordsmithing reminds me of Neal A. Maxwell, as well. Thank you Sharonbryan for reminding me. I went and got out my quotebook and started to read and remember -- his creative way of stating things is legendary and so profound. I’d like to share a couple of quotes by him that relate. The first one regarding this great community on this site as expressed by so many.
“Because our view of brotherhood isthat men are not merely biological brothers -- because we know that we are more than stranded passengers on an earthship that is about to blink, quiver, and die -- we can accept each other in a more full and complete way. We look for the day when as chilren of our Father in Heaven, the designations Appalachian, Asian, or American will no longer be significant, nor will using words like Dutch or Nigerian. When that day comes, salutations from our Heavenly Father to us will be ‘son,’ ‘daughter,’ and among ourselves, ‘brothers,’ ‘sisters.’ (Press Forward, pp. 127-28, Neal A. Maxwell)
And regarding David:
“Disciples [of Christ], like diamonds, are deveoped in a process of time and heavy pressures, and both the disciple and the diamond reflect and magnify the light that comes through them. (Press Forward, p. 125)
“Disciples are not perfect, but, having chosen the Chrstian course, they are put together with principles rather than being a bundle of appetites. (Choose, pp. 44-45)
“We worry about sensory deprivation because of noise pollution, about nutirtional deprivation because of poverty -- and we are right to be so concerned. But emulatory deprivation -- being without models and exemplars -- may be the greatest deprivation of all. For exemplars not only show us that walking the straight and narrow way is possible, but that it is worth doing! (Smallest Part, p. 26)
“You and I in our own little circles have been placed here to light up the landscape of life for others, frail and flickering as our own flames seem at times.” (Press Forward, p. 26)
“This matter … of being a light is even more important in dark times. our impact, for better or worse, on others is inevitable, but it is intended that we be a light and not just another shadow.” (My Family, p. 86)
Okay, got to go before I do the whole book. Just thought I’d share a little Neal A Maxwell.
Wow, daisychain!! I love the Maxwell comments! I’ve never heard of him before. Which books would you reccommend? Thanks again for sharing.
In my letter to Oprah today, I expounded on David’s choice to sing meaningful and inspirational songs during AI, despite Simon’s warning not to be ‘gloomy”. I shared lyrics, etc. as well. As a PS, I told her that many of us would be willing to ride pogo sticks all the way to Chicago just to have the chance to meet and thank David. I also told her that we are all extremely good looking and well behaved. I am going to keep at it until I wear her down and she has no choice but to fly all of us out, just to shut me up!
I’m glad we’re on the Oprah train to Chicago. I will also continue to write. How about, calling ourselves a “Brotherhood of Fans?” We appear to be so diverse, yet so connected. Whadaya think?
elannbo, I wrote to Oprah about David back when he sang You’re the Voice. (Just one more of the out-of-the-ordinary things I would have never done ‘before’ Imagine.) I told her to pay attention to him, that something amazing was happening right before our eyes. I guess it’s time for me to write her again -- huh? As for how to get to Chicago, I’m not much good with a pogo stick but I’ll start practicing.
bigsky, for many years my husband traveled and spent at least 10 days a month on the road. I live next to Hill Air Force Base here in Utah and I watch the troops come and go and the families who send them off and greet them when they return. It never fails to bring tears to my eyes and all those years that my husband was on the road only made me understand that I could NEVER fully understand what it is like for you. Thank you for all you go without and all that you are willing to risk for us.
I’ve missed rascal, but I have enjoyed this long conversation. Love you all.
Daisychain, thanks for all those wonderful Neal A. Maxwell quotes! Reading them made me miss him and inspired me to read all those books he’s written. I especially like the part where he talks about emulatory deprivation being the greatest deprivation of all. That is so true. We need good role models who doesn’t buckle under pressure, who will remain true to who they are and what they believe in. I think one of the reasons why people are intrigued by David is because he fills a void in the music industry. He’s got the combination of true talent and character that’s been missing for a long time.
My husband on our way home from church today was humming, “You’re the Voice” (as I was playing David’s music this morning). I just smiled at him because in the beginning he didn’t care for David’s music or his voice. He was amazed though that David nailed DLTSGDOM and liked him after that. He liked that David chose to sing songs that have positive messages. Sometimes we will be listening to the radio and were surprised at how some things are not bleeped anymore or even on TV for that matter. People who can’t really sing make it big in Hollywood where in the past they wouldn’t have had a chance. Whatever happen to our society’s standards? Anyway, enough ranting.
You know who else got such great writing is James E. Talmage. Anyway, thought I’d add that name in the list of great men and deep thinkers.
If you want just quotes under different topics from most of his writings and talks, “The Neal A. Maxwell Quote Book” edited by Cory Maxwell, his son, is great. That’s how I found these quickly. He likes to use alliteration a lot, and some of those quotes are fun. I guess I’ll look for one…but trying to keep to the topic of David and worldwide brotherhood, etc. …. and wordsmithing.
Neal Maxwell uses a lot of CS Lewis quotes in his talks and books as well, who is another great wordsmither, in my opinion.
My 22 year old son has read The Lord of the Rings, mentioned in posts here, many times. He loves Tolkien’s writings.
Elannbo- I am glad that you wrote Opray. I thought of it after the whole Ellen thing, how she would not have him on her show. I did leave a comment on Ellen’s website about how she of all people should understand what it is like to be different and that I would have expected more from her. To bash a 17 yr old and go along with Simon saying he has no charisma and he had just been trained his whole life, like they thought he was a robot or something. NO CHARISMA?? What does she think people first fell in love with this young man for…his personality and his voice!! To say all those negative things about him on the day of the last voting night was just a terrible thing to do . Simon knows what he and the media says will sway the votes and that is why he did it. Fortunately I have my own brain and two ears and I know who can sing and who cant. I voted for David for the full four hours and so did my father-in-law. He was not going to because he said it was rigged anyway and ours votes did not matter, that whoever they wanted to win would. He of course liked David and voted anyway just because I asked him to. He said David A. would win anyway because America had more sense that to vote for the other one. I told him no that Cook would win because all of the bad press and Simon and Paula pushing him that we had to vote to ensure David won. Even though he did not I am just glad he made it to the top 2. He is number one in my heart.
Hey, Inspired by David- I never saw the Ellen show. I’m glad I didn’t. What the press has done to David over the course of AI really got to me. I emailed several “reporters”, for lack of better term, and took them to task on their biases. Some wrote back, mostly defending themsilves, and reiterating their viewpoint. I finally gave up, it was a bit like jousting at windmills…Maybe Oprah will give him a chance to just be himself. Her stage is certainly a powerful venue. Plus, she has the ‘Midas touch’! It certainly won’t hurt the sale of his cd!
Elannbo Gracie Janey and anyone else that wrote to Oprah -- thanks for trying to get tha David word out to many more millions who may have never watched AI. (as so many of us hadn’t before David came along)
Daisychain thanks for the scripture posts and many powerful thoughts on David.
Collegemom 88 that is really the coolest news -- it makes me project forward to that time in the near future when we ODD’s will be able to get our fix on a regular basis on the radio, cd’s, in clubs, in concert in magazines, on TV.
Speaking of TV -- I think we can all draw a line from David’s assured fame to some monumental events in the near future. I’m confident the time will come when we see David all over the news blowing people away with his unstoppable energy in support of charitable causes.
