DJ (btw your post was the perfect segway, thanks) is a living/breathing example of the Champion Attitude. Add to that his sweet and compassionate personality and you can't help but feel better. I posted this AM, finally got back here after my day, and dang it! If there were'nt lik 60 comments to catch up on! And now I have to go to fanblast to ck. out that video blog! Oh my gosh! I am just so excited! The line between my "real" life and this life has completely blurred now. And I have to write to Oprah! I've had all day to consider my O letter of the day. At least I can get something important done while I'm at work! I am going to tell Oprah what strength of character and determination David possesses. When he forgot the lyrics on WCWIO, and just stood ther w/his ever present smile, took his licks from the judges, and left the stage, I was just heartbroken for him! I was anxious all week about his next performance, esp. since it was another Beatles week, and he wasn't familiar w/their music. When Tue. arrived, I seriously had sweaty palms and feet, my heart was racing...and when he laughed about his mistake in the pre-performance interview, and went on to say that you always have to look on the positive side of things...I knew he was A-OK! Of course, he killed the song, and showed all of us that he is truley a champion! I spent many years competing as an elite runner, and have also coached my share of fine athletes. While preparing for the Olympic Trials Marathon, I definitely had my share of ups and downs....I was knocked down and trampled at the start of one marathon, had to drop out of another due to heat problems, etc. I kept at it, and did run in the Trials, and had a lot of success as a runner. I have seen many of my athletes overcome obstacles w/great courage to reach their goals. We call it the Champion Attitude. Always be positive, never lose sight of your goal, and keep working every day to achieve it. Take everything in stride, and don't let adversity get the best of you. Do these qualities remind you of anyone we know? David showed poise, character, discipline, grit and determination beyond his years during AI. He did everything all the other Idols had to do, plus 15 hrs. a week for school! That's like losing an entire day! He had to do it all w/1 less day than they had every week! He never complained or made it an issue. He never mentioned it if he was sick. He didn't let the snarky media get to him! And he outperformed them, week after week after week. That's what I'm going to tell Oprah today. Give this incredible boy the power of your stage, the intelligent questions he deserves, and the chance to share his gifts with even more people around the world!
