“Crush” Broadcast Rumored for Friday

Although it remains unofficial, several confirmed reports indicate that David will be a guest on Elvis Duran’s Z100 morning show in New York City this Friday, August 1st. And although not skedded for release until September 2nd, we will apparently get to hear David’s first-ever single, entitled “Crush.”
Radio station Z100 has an Internet stream, so everyone will presumably be able to share the excitement.
I just hope I’m as excited after I hear it.
Don’t you think he must be really confident and connected with this one, to let everyone hear it so soon? I really hope so, because when he does, no one can touch him, right?
thatguycansing – David probably doesn’t have anything to do with how it’s being marketed or promoted. In fact, I’ll guarantee you that he doesn’t. The good news is that the official release date was pushed back to September and that seeing as how they are previewing it now it obviously wasn’t because it wasn’t ready — it was a choice. And that choice indicates a greater confidence in the market potential for the single because September is a much higher profile release time than August. They’ll probably use these “sneak peeks” to determine how much of a budget they want to put behind promotion in September, but clearly they are confident in David and the material so far.
I’m trying not to expect too much from the single, but it’s not easy.
And you do realize you’re going to have to get up real early, Rascal, lol. Your readers will be waiting with almost equal anticipation for your laser-sharp insights and impressions!
(Cool visual, btw, thanks.)
Yeah, Rascal I forget sometimes it’s not showbiz, it’s show business! How I wish it wasn’t so, especially for David! So I guess I’ll be hoping he gets BIG budget numbers!!
I second TOfan, we readers will want a write up STAT, I’m sure it will include some amazing, out of this world visual aide to go along with it!!
Rascal, Love the graphic! It’s great to have these knowledgable insights. Does this preview mean we cannot phone in and request it on the radio. We have to wait until the release date of Sept.2?
Hey – I meant – it’s not show friends it’s show business!! (what I said up there makes no sense whatsoever!) UGH! I guess I’m a little loopy with all this David news today! I’m really nervous about all this. I can’t believe the depths to which I care about this guys career! It’s insanely crazy!
Thanks Rascal
I feel your pain “thatguycansing” I am so nervous for David and hope that his single “is the bomb”
I don’t want for anything really. I am blessed with a loving family, tons of wonderful friends and many eFriends
But I can say right now that I WANT! WANT! Crush to blow up the airwaves Friday and beyond.
I am actually thinking about setting my alarm for 4:30 AM west coast time on Friday to listen in. Yikes!! I too am nervous, and trying not to expect too much.
Well, this may be a stupid question, but if its on a radio station in New York, how can we in the nether parts of the US hear it?
Rascal, you must trust the Archulator
The radio station has streaming audio. You can go to the station website and listen. http://www.z100.com/cc-common/ondemand/player.html?world=st
Let me first say, I adore David Archuleta! I’ve never really heard him sing a strictly “POP” song. I am an older fan and love everything he has performed so far, so I’m hoping that I won’t be disappointed in “Crush”. I keep reminding myself that it will be outstanding because it’s David’s song. My main concern is that he is not pigeon-holed into the POP musical style early in his career. David has more to offer!
That being said, I share the enthusiasm of so many fans who have been waiting for this special young man’s first single …and I share in the excitement that David, himself, must be feeling right now!
..GO DAVID!!!
I am soooo disappointed. I will be on a plane to Canada when he is on the radio. But just 6 1/2 weeks till the Tulsa concert sept 13th. woohoo!!
Drats! This is going to be airing at 4:30 AM here in the Seattle area. Any other day, I would be sitting at my compute with a cup of coffee getting my DA fix before heading to work. But THIS Friday, we’re taking our boat out to Lake Washington to see the Blue Angels practice and I’ll be right in the middle of organizing what we need to take with us at 4:30 AM because we plan on leaving at 5:00.
There’s no way that my family will understand if I tell them that our world simply must pause so I can listen to David’s new song! LOL!
So yes Rascal…please download both the interview and song if you can so I can hear it when I get home Friday night.
BTW…I love this website!
It is a fact he will be on as mentioned. Like it has been said before he could sing the phone book and it would be good. So how in the world can this be anything but AWESOME!!!! Come on. Oh ye of little faith. David acts like a dork on his vlogs and we all nearly wet our pants. Ok maybe that’s a stretch but not much of one. Head on over to his my space page for the latest one.
Hey Josie I have a great photo of you with David at the after show in SLC. Did i send it to you. send me a message.
TTFN Dot
And Marylee, If David can sing a POP song like With You (one of my David faves) from the show (which I have on my ipod )then it will be great. Have faith, it will be David singing, it can only be good.
He has said that he is working on the “balance” of the songs on the album, so it will surely have a good mix and I’ll bet you they all have a “message”.
I agree with others who are really nervous about this first song. The title itself, “Crush”, makes me think of what we used to call “Bubble Gum” music. Although I loved that kind of music, there were a whole lot of other people who didn’t appreciate it at all. If Crush is a long the lines of songs like Apologize it will be a huge hit but if it sounds like a Miley or Jonas Bros. song…..
I can’t imagine David going along with singing a song that he didn’t like or connect with, so I guess we just have to trust his instincts. He hasn’t let us down so far.
I remember reading shortly after he signed with Jive that early in the process of finding the right songs for his album, he already heard one that he liked and I think he commented on the excitement of it all by saying something like “wow, this is my song.” I just remember thinking, how cute, he is marvelling at the fact that this song is his, never sung by anyone else. I am figuring chances are good the song he was talking about is this first single “Crush”. So if he likes it, it must be good and even though he might not have complete creative control, his dad had said he is given more creative say than others might when working on their first album. All a good sign.
Have you guys heard David sing “Don’t Tell Me”? it’s very pop (and supposedly David co-wrote it). Now it was when he was much younger and a much higher voice but it’s the bomb – so I’m not nervous about him singing strictly pop music – listen to it at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bn3mz8w0qJg
always trust the archuleta…
Dorothy (#15) – you almost had me wetting my pants with laughter after I read your post. thanks for that!!! =)
Hi Dorothy-no, I don’t think we connected after SLC. My email is jblais1015@gmail.com I’d love to see it and thanks so much!
I wonder if the dates are wrong, and the impact date is supposed to be Aug 1, NOT Sept 1 or 2? Either way, looking forward to Friday!
Here’s an in-depth interview from a magazine called Stepping Out:
http://www.so-mag.com/3dissue/072308/start.htm
Reading it, I’m just now getting a sense of how traumatic things must have been for David to experience vocal paralysis for two-and-a-half years! What a blessing for him (and for us!) that he can now use his voice in such a glorious way.
Forgot to add: the interview starts on page 50.
hello gorgeous Thank you for the link to so-mag. Great article!
Enjoyed reading the posts here. Yeah, I can’t wait for his single to air on the radio. I, too am nervous but I am very optimistic that this is going to be a good, radio-friendly song. I remember seeing an interview with the idols and Carly Smithson mentioned that David’s first 2 songs for his album are really good. I believe the label thinks this song is going to be a hit, don’t you? I guess, it’s all about timing. Strike while the iron is hot, is what they say.
I have Z100 added on to my “favorite” lisit. I am getting ready from now to 2nd August (our time) to click on this site. What a beautiful world!
Giggle Giggle.
What if the song is about all of us who have a great big “CRUSH”
on David. Especially you Rascal
Dorothy
#28-Or if Crush is about some shy, somewhat awkard kid whose feelings are crushed by some beautiful girl, then he goes on to rule the music world and boy, doesn’t she wish she crushed him back now!!!!! Heehee
I’m wondering which catches people’s attention first the music or the lyrics or is both at the same time?
#23 et al — I’ve seen Aug. 12 in a few of places now–including in the linked article above (and thank you for that, hello gorgeous!–good find!) as the official release date of “Crush”. FWIW. Soooo, I’m hoping you catch the audio stream for us on Friday, Rascal ! !
…thanks for the words of encouragement…I will be trusting in the Archuleta…good advice!
#25, it’s one of the few interviews that gives us enough details about David.
#29, for me, it’s music first, lyrics after (sometimes I don’t even know the lyrics to a catchy song that I like!).
If flat-note singers can deliver a hit song, what more can our phenomenal David do with a catchy song!
Hello everyone! I just found out over on the fanblast that, in addition to David’s Z100 appearance and debut of “Crush,” he is also scheduled to make an appearance on Ryan Seacrest’s morning show out in LA sometime soon!
Wow, if that also turns out to be true, then all I will say is: Well done, Jive, well done!
I hope we are all paying attention to how Jive (and perhaps even 19E?) intends to have a sure hit with David and turn him into a superstar! I can relax (saying this without first hearing what the song is like).
But, I believe we all know that it doesn’t matter either way if the song is any good (even though I will say that if David can take a lame song like In This Moment and spin it into gold, he can sing ANYTHING and make it sound fantastic). What matters is how much airplay it receives, and if it’s in high rotation, it’s a hit.
For instance, when I first heard Rihanna’s “Take a Bow,” I absolutely detested it! After listening to the song over and over again (I have a long commute, and pop music relaxes me when I’m behind the wheel), because it received so much airtime, I actually started liking it!
I get the impression Jive will give David’s single as much exposure and high rotation as possible.
I’m over the moon that David is being treated like a co-winner now, and that Jive means business and will refuse to give him Runner-Up treatment. This is exciting!
I will be tuned in on Friday for sure. We are all nervous for David that is understandable, however, we must remember that when David is confident in his music, nothing can stop him. I am sure the listeners will embrace this new song and in turn embrace David. Our underlying nerves are mostly from hoping David is happy and succeeds with this song and my guess is David has made great choices in the songs he will record (now that he can) and this will be big and just the beginning. Just one more opportunity to celebrate our precious David. Thank you Rascal for this safe David haven and thanks to all that post here!! You are the best!
David made me a believer with many of his songs during Idol. There’s only one song I can’t listen to: “Another Day in Paradise”….I cannot stand that song, no matter who’s singing it! haha. He sang many mature serious ballads during Idol and I wouldn’t blame him if he wanted his first single to be something very different, more youthful, less heavy. We’re still in summer after all! I don’t think JIVE forced him to choose “Crush” too. He must’ve liked it.
I didn’t care for “Tattoo” by Jordin but after hearing it a few times it got stuck in my head and now I find it to be a very clever successfully produced pop song. With all of our expectations there will be fans who won’t like “Crush” right away. That’s to be expected. If you don’t like it there’s bound to be other songs on his disc that you will like. But no matter how we individually feel, the song needs to be a hit. So BUY IT(don’t steal it)no matter if you like it or not.
Oh, and Rascal, if you don’t like the song at first, I hope you at least keep an open mind for the song to grow on you. I hope you don’t write it off right away. I hope you don’t end up feeling abandoned by David The Consumate Artist. haha
Can someone explain to me what “streaming” is? Radio Station Z100 is going to “stream” Crush…does that mean that the only time we can hear it is at the time that they air it, or can we go to their website and hear it throughout the day?
Somebody please explain before I have a pacnic attack here. I’m not going to be home to hear it live.
No need to panic. If you want to hear the interview and the single, you can tune in to Z100 Friday morning, 7:45 AM east coast time. If you are out of the area, you can go to the Z100 website and listen live while it is “streamed.”
http://www.z100.com/cc-common/ondemand/player.html?world=st
The blurb on the website also says to “Check back at Elvisduran.com after the interview to listen to the full song on demand. See – no panic needed! Fan Blast has some great additional information.
…on demand.” (Forgot to close my quotes.)
Ok..so I’ll be able to hear the song when I get home Friday night, but won’t be able to hear the interview. Thanks davidfan.
