Full Circle
David’s incredible generosity to his fans is already becoming legendary, and the tour is only just underway. In city after city, report after report describes David as utterly gracious, thoroughly engaged, and willing to indulge his fans in almost any request. He is often the last of the performers to leave the crowds of autograph and snap seekers–and then often only after insistence by security.
This is hardly due to the fact that David wants to bask in the adoration. Indeed, what we know already about his personality suggests quite the opposite; he is rather uncomfortable with the idea of notoriety, he is shy and admittedly awkward in social situations. Despite years of praise and applause and even screaming girls (some of the early videos reveal just how soon this particular phenomenon started), David’s natural humility still compels him to characterize all the attention as “weird.”
Due to his introverted nature, David’s natural inclination would be to avoid the very scenes that now require his participation. Yet here is a young man who frets at the possibility that each and every fan won’t get their opportunity with him. He has handled some of the most awkward moments anyone could encounter with enormous grace and tact (what would you do if someone you didn’t even know was sobbing uncontrollably at you?). If he is asked about something he is not at liberty to discuss (his first single, for example, which savvy fans were able to identify by scouring the ASCAP registrations) David gets flustered, not, I would suggest, because he doesn’t know how to politely demur or cheerfully chastise, but because it pains him not to be able to give a fan what they want.
As unlikely as this combination of characteristics might be for someone whose livelihood involves a spotlight both onstage and off, this level of generosity, this degree of selflessness, is not an inconsequential aspect of David’s power as a performer. In classes about performance technique, one of the concepts discussed and dissected is the notion of availability. The potential for a performer to truly connect with people’s hearts and minds is realized to a large extent by how open, how accessible–how available–that performer is willing to be to his or her audience. Make no mistake: this is a courageous thing. It takes an unusual amount of self possession to allow an audience access to the truth of one’s emotional life. It is why the greatest singers in the world have always characterized their very public work as a very intimate act.
It will be interesting to see how David’s availability in offstage settings evolves over time, especially as his star rises, his public expands, and the press gets increasingly ravenous. Privacy issues aren’t likely to become an issue anytime soon (I have a hunch that we won’t be seeing any romantic liaisons for quite some time), but David will at some point need to make some determinations about boundaries that I suspect won’t be easy for him.
Until then, we have this tremendous example of mutual devotion, both initiated and perpetuated by one remarkable young man. There is little doubt in my mind that the audience response and the dedication of the fans have been fundamental to the increasingly full-throttle performances. It’s as if the so-called bubble David was in during the show season effectively omitted half the equation. Now, the circle is complete. And what fuels David is not the knowledge that his fans are there for him, but the knowledge that he can be there–and available–for them.

…What a fantastic picture of David! I’ve never heard of anyone getting cuter by the day…but that’s how it appears to me! As far as his devotion to his fans, it is unparalleld. David is a star already…based on his tremendous talent and his appreciation of his supporters. I am so impressed how he is handling the pressure of his new found fame and have great faith that he will continue to be a role model to the young people all over the world….truly an inspiration and I feel so blessed to have observed his spirit during these past six or more months! David Archuleta…stay just as you are…God bless you…
This picture is adorable and would make a great album cover. Go Crush! Go Crusher!
Rascal, You are so right, for David whose generous nature is to give, give, give, it will be difficult for him to go against that nature and not give everything he has to give. While always being gracious, he seems to never feel like he has earned anything unless he has first given everything he can. And, maybe, that is how he will reconcile that internal struggle, indeed, as you noted, how he already may be doing so, that by giving everything he has in his singing, he will feel that there are things he can withhold and still feel like he is earning what he receives back. That is my hope for him, that he can find a peace about it, and his joy in receiving will remain full.
Too bad he has to worry about “boundaries”. Fans are one thing, fanatics are another. Thanks Rascal, once again your “right-on”! BTW….David’s pic is PURE BEAUTY!
Rascal, you are right on as usual. I love coming to see what’s here. You always seem to articulate what ordinary people like me are feeling and thinking. I believe people are attracted to David not only because he really is a beautiful young man but most of all he has a special aura about him. I believe he really is unaffected by his new-found fame and good fortune. His demeanor in those signing videos tells me he has remained the same before all these happened. He shows that this is not all about him but also about caring for others. I truly admire him for signing autographs even in the sweltering 100+ heat. He had droplets of sweat all over his forehead but he didn’t seem to mind. Poor thing. I don’t think he will change but you are right that at some point, he might want to set some boundaries between his fans and himself. Fans who truly love David would want him to do so, at least I would. He may be a public figure to many but he still has to live his own life. I hope fans don’t think they own him and therefore feel they are entitled to know everything about him and what’s going on with his life. I am just so proud of him. May his star rise and live on for a long, long time for us to behold. Let us rejoice knowing that we are trying to help David reach his dreams. Let’s buy them CDs from Amazon people. Yay! Has that ever happened before--that an unnamed CD, let alone nobody has heard what’s in it, would be at the top5 bestseller on Amazon? It’s CRAZY!
I’m sitting hear right now listening to a garbled cell phone stream of David’s set beginning in Tacoma. The sustained, high-volume screams are just unbelievable. Can you even imagine what SLC will be like?
Is this kid beautiful or what?! Inside and out. He glows. It’s just beginning to dawn what a talent and what an incredible career and life journey he is beginning! And we get to tag along! I have been so floored the past few days at everything fantastic that is happening for him! And the SLC show is just days away. His first homecoming was something else! Can’t imagine what we’re all in for this time around!
I have posted this quote on the forums, but will add it here because it so encompasses David for me.
Those who bring sunshine into the lives of others cannot keep it from themselves. -William M. Barrie
David so deserves all the positive things coming into his life! Is he the second coming of Peter Pan, or what?!
I’m just a little transfixed by this picture. I have an image of my family finding me in a catatonic state staring at this on my laptop. It’s sort of like looking at a great work of art -- oh wait, it’s exactly like looking at a great work of art! And while it is a great visual, add the audio to it and it becomes a masterpiece.
Thank you all for enjoying the Photo I took of David in Portland yesterday. I am glad you are all enjoying it like I did when I took it and the many others. Jennifer Barry
Hello, Rascal! I’ve been reading your blog for two weeks now and, if I was initially drawn to it by my avid interest in all things David, I have to say I’ve also been in awe of your writing skills and insightful thoughts. I’m from Brazil and I’m verging on obsession so much I love this kid’s artistry and disarmingly pure soul. Your last article got me worried sick, though, by bringing up the availability issue. I’ve always equated loving with suffering – I’m a hopeless romantic, I guess! – and now I seriously fret over all sorts of evil doing that might hurt our lil’ angel. Looking at his beautiful eyes on this photo I couldn’t help but remember a scene in Denzel Washington’s great Training Day where he tells rookie partner, Ethan Hawke, to hide that love in his eyes or people would want to take it away from him, and that made him vulnerable. I want to believe this to be untrue about our David and that, Lloyd Webber was right to tell David to open his eyes. I want to believe that the love in his eyes coming from a powerful inner source will be strong enough to conquer all – ‘ravenous’ press, jealousy, you name it! I’ll keep coming back from more!
This interview conducted by a young girl is more thoughtful and David’s responses more telling than any I’ve previously heard. It’s a wonderful conversation between the two.

To be honest I haven’t given much thought to David, the musical student. But it makes sense, honing his skills, studying his craft, thinking too much, analyzing “how” to do it, David leaves nothing to chance.
We finally hear how annoying the condescending “you’re so cute” remarks are to him. He’s right, other 17 year olds are not treated this way. He’s been too nice to say anything until now and maybe because
the interviewer is younger (she gets it!) he feels he can be open about this. I’ve always found those remarks to be nothing but disrespectful and irksome, completely classless on the part of the interviewer.
I’m continually awed by the amount of work it takes to be successful on
AI. At one point the fan mail becomes overwhelming. You can feel his sense of responsibility in having to let that go. I think of the logistics of his day, his free ???? time, school at 8 p.m. ??? My respect for him continues to grow.
Good morning Rascal and all the angels,
Man, am I tired after a full day of Idol-ing in Tacoma. You can read my official ‘twitters’ here:
http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/flatpages/entertainment/seattletimescomlivetwitterupdates.html
And there’s a photo gallery here:

Sorry, but they really limited my photo ops, so I really don’t have any good photos of Archie. I did get to hear him live though, and it was everything you’d hope it would be.
More important though: I had the privilege to interview David one-on-one. Oh how I wish all of you could have been there right along with me.
Pretty much everything you’ve heard about his demeanor is true: he’s gracious, soft-spoken, expressive with his hands. And yes, rambling in his answers sometimes -- I think this is a sign of an active mind moreso than immaturity. And let me tell you: he looks YOUNG. It’s hard to believe that someone his age has not only survived the hell of “American Idol,” but has grown stronger from it.
He knows what’s important, and he’ll right by us AND him.
It was a pleasure to shake the hand of such an amazing talent.
The most kind-hearted, compassionate, and loving man on earth. A real star is in existence. What a gorgeous man in and out of his ways. Such, an inspiration.
And, I love him so…O’-)
First time poster. How is it possible that I have just found this site? I have been around searching for anything David related but this site is the first one where I find myself reading everything I have always wanted to say about this magnificent boy -- his music, his character, his humanity. Thank God I have found you. You always seem to capture David’s soul in every performance, every interviews, every picture. Thank you!
Rascal, thank you for returning, I really missed your insightful and intelligent comments about David when you went away for a while. And what you’ve just written here is so right on and accurate. Yesterday I had the thrill and honor of meeting David in Portland. In fact, I wasn’t too far away from him when this photo was taken and as beautiful as his eyes look here it was nothing compared to seeing them up close and in person. You can easily lose yourself in those eyes and when he looks at you, he REALLY looks at you, like he’s there just for you in that moment and he’s focused on you. And he stood out in the heat for at least an hour and walked down the long line of people and gave his all to everyone there, anyone that wanted a moment with David, a picture taken with him, an autograph, a hug, he was so accommodating and generous and so kind. I didn’t think it was possible I could be any more impressed with David than I already was but he just continues to blow me away. Not only is he one of the most talented singers I’ve ever heard he’s also an exceptional human being. And he’s still so young with so much potential!. I feel blessed that I got to meet him right now at this point in his career because he will continue to collect fans and may not always be able to connect with his fans in such a personal way. There’s a lot of love going on between David and his fans and it definitely goes both ways.
As for my own moment with David, I came away feeling so happy and at peace. I got someone to take my picture with him and he signed a shirt I made that said “I luv u Archie”. I gave him a little stuffed baby tiger which I told him he reminded me of when he sometimes growls when he sings and he laughed and thanked me. What I wanted more than anything was to throw my arms around him and squeeze him, but I was too shy at first. Later I got up the nerve and snuck back in toward the end of the line and asked him if I could give him a hug. He smiled at me and said “Oh, sure” and I was in heaven. I’ll never forget how he felt, his little tiny body, slightly sweaty, but not at all stinky, if anything he smelled clean, like soap. And he hugs back! He actually seems very comfortable now touching people and being touched, but people were being very respectful, not too grabby. All the things I thought of saying to him if I was ever lucky enough to meet him went right out the window and all I managed to say to him was what a sweetheart he was and that I loved him, but that was all I really needed to say.
Sorry for such a long post, but I was so excited about my David story and had to share it with people who understand the ODD phenomenon.
David is exactly what you say he is. Thank you once again for putting our thoughts into words, Rascal.
Thanks to Janey for providing the links to the thoughtful and telling conversation between David and a young lady.
denisemcd and caseydog, thanks for letting me live vicariously through you. This tour likely provides the only chance for his fans to actually get close enough to look into his eyes, (and have him look back) and to hug him. To anyone who questions his demeanor and maturity, what were you doing at 17?
Rascal, thanks for being so generous with YOUR fans by sharing your thoughts. Today’s commentary brought tears to my eyes. I always agree with every word you write.
My husband studied at Oklahoma State University for a few years and developed an association with Garth Brooks before he was famous. We’ve always followed Garth’s career, and he was another who was very giving with his audience — that and his talent took him to the top for as long as he wanted to be there.
David’s graciousness is on a par with his voice, talent and looks. I suspect that he, too, will have a tremendous career for as long as he wishes.
Full circle -- at first I thought this might be about his trek back to SLC, but upon reading I realized how short sided I was in my thinking!
WOW! He seems to really understand what this all means and how much it means to his fans to just say Thanks! I can only think this is because he himself is such a fan of music, he is able to put himself in other peoples shoes and understand what they really want, because that is what he might want too (not from himself, but from artists he is a fan of)!! Empathy -- a lost art!
David continues to amaze me as a 17 year old. What detractors saw early on was a reflection of their own angst. David is simply himself and as he continues on in the tour more and more see David as he is. His courage and vulnerability are awe inspiring.
The stories from those who have met him are so beautiful and heart warming. Thank you.
I was reading a little article they other week, by Stephen King, no less, about hype vs. buzz. To make a long story short, his point was: Hype: News as hype is never believable, always false, and loudly shouted in the media. Buzz: News as a buzz is quite, word of mouth, always true, and believable. I had never thought of the difference between the two words (I am far from media savvy), but I couldn’t help but think of David and all the BUZZ you mentioned in the first paragraph! I feel that by the end of this tour all the buzz will almost be deafening. Which is something I am really ecstatic about!!!!
Thanks Rascal again for this site! (when I said “only” above, I really meant “another reason”, but I trust you understood that already:))
PS Caseydog -- Thanks!
Very nice article, Rascal -- I enjoyed it! I am soooo glad you’re back (I know I’ve said that a zillion times now)!
***I need some advice — I was telling some kids at our youth center (I live on a military base) that my daughter and I (and the daughter of a soldier who’s in Iraq now & her mum) will be going to the A.I. concert in just a couple of weeks… they were very envious
.. and then suggested we take the idols something from the kids from Ft. Drum (home of the 10th Mtn Div -- which has suffered a LOT of losses, and is CONSTANTLY deployed). Not sure if I can pull something together in time for the concert, but do you think a banner that the kids create, and sign with messages/etc, would be appropriate to hand to the idols should we get a chance to see them before or after the show? I could even hand it off to one of the “minders” (as they are called). It was also suggested that we take something from Ft Drum -- such as unit insignia pins, hats, or t-shirts.
I really don’t know if they allow fans to pass off gifts or not — does anyone have any suggestions? I imagine the Idols are overwhelmed with gifts, cards, notes, etc… and I’m not really sure how to go about this.
Thanks..
Rascal just wanted to say thanks for this beautifully written piece about our hero. The future is unknown, but I try to focus on nothing but the positive for David. It’s difficult, personally, to envision the negative possibilities, so I just fantasize about all the good stuff that comes from becoming a major star. All the light and power to David!
Tinuviel, Janey, Ellanbo, Rika and all of you, fine comments of praise for the young man who deserves it all.
Caseydog, thanks for your report, lucky you.
It gets harder and harder to understand those who don’t “Get David”, doesn’t it?
Musicao — imagine the “lightbulb moments” that will happen after the release of David’s album for all those who are not avid A.I. fans and who are not aware of David (or any of the “Idols”)? I have a hunch the hits on this site, and others (fanblast, etc) will skyrocket when the rest of the world awakens to who David Archuleta is.
We’re just a fragment of his future fan base.
Yes, Bigsky, I consider myself lucky, and nothing more, having discovered David on day one. Part of what we have to look forward to is witnessing those “lightbulb moments” together. For once, I’m on this end of someone’s rise to stardom!
musicao, be patient, they will come around. I wrote to Lupe on FB yesterday, ” the thread of adoration and love that runs through the hearts of his fans has over the last few months woven itself into a safety net that will sustain David’s career for years.
I really believe that.
Dang it!
Meant to say:
The tread of love and adoration that runs through the hearts of his fans, has over the last few months, woven itself into and intricate safety net that will sustain David’s career for years to come.
On the eve of the SLC concerts, ODD in overdrive.
So many great posts here it’s hard to know where to begin — with Rascal, of course! Brilliant, as usual, I was thinking along the same lines, but you’ve articulated it beautifully — David’s giving, genuine, available nature being at the core of his artistry. FanBlast has a picture up of David climbing a fence to get to his fans, and not just “getting autographs over with” but fully engaging them. Amazing.
They also posted this fan story where he does the same:
http://www.americanidol.com/myidol/forums/topic/?tid=1019346
Here’s an excerpt:
“His ability and eagerness to listen, ask questions, and respond was amazing. I would be talking to someone else, and David would overhear and chime in. He would look me in the eyes, talk to me, interact with me -- just like we were friends or something! There was no sense of just David talking to us because he had to – he seemed so interested in talking to us.”
Thanks, Janey, for the interview link, very cool. And Thatguycansing, “hype” vs “buzz,” very applicable to David, for sure. Caseydog, I’m dying to read your “twitters” but can’t get the link to work for me, hope you’ll post elsewhere for twitter-challenged folks like myself. lol
David has an intrinsic way of connecting with his fans in a way I have never witnessed before. His fans don’t just consider themselves fans in the classic sense, more like David’s friend or even like an extended family. We think of David even when not watching him in the moment. I find myself saying to myself, I hope David is taking care of his voice, or getting enough rest, or I wonder what is he doing on the bus now, etc. We have this connection with him because he is such an open, welcoming, inviting person. He has swung the door open to his heart and allowed us to pour in.
I came to the screen this morning to see that my very first video upload to YouTube was successful (it took about 3 hrs, I had to leave it running overnight and go to bed!). It’s *heavily* processed now so not good digital quality, but still fun! It’s David singing “Apologize” at the Portland tour show:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5WaU0rz1Dog
I had the most amazing day Friday--David’s concert was that night, and three people from David’s biggest fan blog stayed over with me here, and did a live blog feed from my apartment! I missed that unfortunately, ‘cus I was at the concert — anyway, it was very, very cool to host them, I learned a lot. And Eric, the wizard behind the scenes who runs the site, got me into the “meet and greet” after the show, which apparently is a total miracle, only about 75-100 people get back there each show, to meet all 10 of the Idols. I tried to not hog David’s time too much--told him about the portrait I was painting of him and how I was trying to portray the light that shines from him, that he absolutely GLOWS and that everyone remarks about his beautiful aura. Characteristically, he laughed and denied it! Then, (argghh!) I accidently blew the cover about something Fanblast is doing for him (DANG!!! I didn’t know it was a surprise!). I’m not even going to say what that was, but I can confirm that David is graceful as can be when it comes to dancing around embarassing situations! It is very unreal to stand in front of him and talk to him. Very, very unreal, he is quite other-worldly.
On that point, my strongest impression from the encounter was the extreme contrast between David’s mature, professional stage presence, and his very YOUNG appearance and simple unaffected demeanor in person. OMG, he is SO YOUNG!! Now doesn’t that just sound ridiculous? Duh! We all know he’s young, but in person, the broad contrast is really shocking—that the whole incredible phenomenon of David Archuleta flows from this young being. I really just go into that zone on non-comprehension when I contemplate the whole experience that is David Archuleta. He is one divine human being.
Also, I was thrilled to meet David’s dad, Jeff, and give him tons of kudos for the way above-and-beyond sacrifices he and his family have made in support of his child’s dream. What a beautiful world it would be if every parent recognized and supported their child’s gifts, and allowed them to bloom in the world, blessing all who encounter them. That’s another whole conversation!
But I need to continue processing this experience. Hope you enjoyed a piece of it vicariously!
Here is the picture mentioned in previous posting (#29)… talk about devotion to his fans -- in this picture, david is going above and beyond to grant each and every fan an autograph and/or picture…
check it out here (have to scroll down a bit to see) -- - http://www.rickey.org/?p=8364
oops -- i meant it was posting #27… =)
rascal, as always your writing bought me to tears, out of appreciation and gratitude for how you say what I am feeling so eloquently. To the person who took the picture that accompanies this blog, OMGosh, thank you so much. It is such a gorgeous shot of David, he positively GLOWS. I couldn’t stop the tears…they silently rolled down my cheeks and into a river under my chin. The love and affection I have for this young man can be pretty overwhelming, it’s just like the love and affection I have for my own children and two little angels (my granddaughters). It’s a pure, unconditional love. BTW, rascal, I am much relieved you’ve come back to blogging. Gosh, I have missed you. Can’t wait to read your report on being with mamma Josie to see David in Utah. OMGOSH!!! CANNOT WAIT!
Oh, I post under ‘Fe’ at rickey.org….wrigsmom and Fe are one and the same.
#21 thatguycansing: Hey, thanks for the Stephen King article about hype vs. buzz. How timely!
Because on the Hey! Nielsen site, some David fans are creating lots of BUZZ. I’ve started the David Archuleta Honeybee Group. We BUZZ for David! The honeybee is Utah’s State Insect because “it dances to the honey-toned voice of David Archuleta.” haha
We need help, though, so if any of you want to share your great and thoughtful comments, please join Hey! Nielsen.
“Buzz: News as a buzz is quiet, word of mouth, always true, and believable.” And of course, it’s always FREE!
By the way, my Hey! Nielsen username is Min-Ja. If you join, add me as a Recommender and you’ll get the messages from the Honeybee Group.
to get you there quickly: http://www.heynielsen.com/view/david-archuleta/
To caseydog:
I was following what you were reporting from Tacoma last night. You said you had the opportunity to interview David A. Will you tell us the questions you asked and what answers he gave? That would be awesome. Thanks!
To caseydog again:
I mean, please tell us in more detail.
Rascal, I think you’ve read my mind more than ever this time. And that picture is beyond words. I’ve seen it as Fanblast (thanks Jenny aka maddiejogirl).
Great comments too from everyone. Thanks for the interview, caseydog.
You know… the photo of David climbing up (and over/around) the fence completely illustrates what Rascal was writing about in “Full Circle”.
To Ely and others: Watch for my extended notes from my interview with David to be posted here on Rascal’s site in the morning. It was tough to get a lot out of him in a mere five minutes, but it was still interesting.
Hey everyone! Yesterday I was having trouble posting on this site. The comments here have been great. It seems like now is the time for David’s fans to try and meet him while he’s on tour. He’s being so accommodating (that Portland pic where he’s hanging on the fence to chat with fans is priceless!), and once his album hits, and he becomes HUGE, we may not get this close to him in a long, long while.
janey- thank you for writing that beautiful bit to Lupe. As always, you post is sincere and sensitively thought out! Thanks also for the interview link. Best interview I’ve heard anybody give him!
Rascal, another wonderful article. Can’t wait to hear your thoughts after seeing the show. Also looking forward to hearing about meeting him, as I’m assuming you will be!
Hey since I’m a bit slow, I was reading comments on the “Answered Prayers” thread and thought I’d share what I found about “Crazy” but saw that the last comment was posted yesterday, I decided to post it here so you’d see it. If it’s old news, I’m sorry. Someone else had already put this link here to talk about David’s willingness to share himself with his fans, but also at this link, this fan reports back on what he said about “Crazy”:
“I asked him about singing “Crazy” on Tuesday, and he didn’t know about it! But he said “Ok, then! But I haven’t rehearsed it in awhile”. I told him that his fans really want to hear him sing it. He went on to explain how he sings it – he said it’s a very slow, simple version of it -- nothing fancy. And we told him anything he sings is fantastic. At times he almost rambled, and I loved every moment of it.”
Here’s the link again: http://www.americanidol.com/myidol/forums/topic/?tid=1019346
I think his genuine desire to connect with music has only translated into a genuine desire to connect with fans in a way that not only helps them to form a “relationship” with him but in the end allows him to express himself more intimately (through music) with people he knows are going to support, admire and ultimately respect him for some time to come. His taking the time to speak, talk, sign and everything else under the sun with fans has as much meaning to him as it does to each one of us and that is further shown in the performances he gives every night. He knows he’s in a position now that he’s always dreamed of, and although he comes across as being a person who would be happy no matter what his life circumstances were. This is his dream. He;s soaking up every single minute of this roller coaster. You can see it in his eyes, in his expressions. He’s truly awed by everything and being the humble person he is, he just wants everyone to know that his dream is a reality because you, and you and yes YOU voted to make it a reality. Having met him in San Jose, I can safely say I saw it, and was further endeared to him because of his kindness. Everything that has been said about him is indeed true and as I said somewhere else. The only way to truly experience David Archuleta is to experience him live. Speaking to him and having a few brief moments with him, was worth far more then any concert or any amount of money one can spend. He really does impact lives and I can only hope he continually remains the same. I hope the bubble of Hollywood and the downside of it all doesn’t taint this young man. I have faith that he will always stay humble. He’s got AMAZING people around him. I think, although we are experiencing something so amazing. The best is yet to come. Actions really do speak louder then words and no doubt as he continues to conduct himself with class and maturity beyond his 17 years he’s only further sealing and strengthening those ties that bind.
I almost feel like I’m apart of something truly special and being able to meet him before hit blows the roof off of stardom feel somewhat different. It’s almost bittersweet I think. It really is surreal. Wow.
Loved everyone’s comments, isn’t it amazing that David behaves just as good as he sings and looks (love that picture, he is so gorgeous. . . . ). He’s the total package! How many people can you say that about, especially at his age? He’s such a grateful young man, appreciative of everything. I know when he “lost” Idol his fans were more upset than he was. David was just as calm, relaxed and happy as ever, glad the whole experience was all over but knowing he did his best while also reallizing that he did not need to win in order to live his dream. It was never his intention to win--he only wanted to share his voice with the world and hopefully get enough recognition for a recording contract. I bet he could have walked away from American Idol after he performed “Imagine” in February and still would have been signed but he decided to stick it out, putting up with situtations that would have frustrated most of us to tears. How many times do we think about all we don’t have instead of all that we do? I just have so much admiration for David, he understands that he cannot live his dream--and fulfill his mission--without the support and love of his fans. He is so considerate and thoughtful of others, the life he is living now cannot be easy yet he’s doing all he can do with a big smile on his face. What a lesson he unintentionally (or maybe intentionally) teaches all who want to learn--no matter what situation you may find yourself in, there’s always something to smile about and be thankful for. When you have that kind of attitude it just radiates from your soul and draws people to you. Thank you David! We all love you and will never leave you.
