One more thing I just have to say: David must know that these two songs have been the most discussed songs (and anticipated/speculated songs) among his ArchAngels and Archies. For him to be so accommodating to his fanbase…Sigh.
It feels good to know he’s thinking of us and taking care of us. He so is not going to disappoint us with his future music. How special is this kid?

Wow, now I’m in Heaven just listening to our David. Thank you for these posts. Amazing, simply AMAZING. Thanks again Rascal!

Rascal, can you also get the mp3 of todays version of “Crazy” to download?? Thank you.
karidol . July 15, 2008 .
#2. David and Jeff know that his fans were waiting for this songs like crazy… I believe most of his fanmail was about people telling him how they fall in love with his voice during Heaven and how much they wanted to listen to his version of Crazy. No doubt Archie sang these songs for his fans. I feel so blessed to have discover this amazing talent and human being at the start of his career.
By the way, If you watch Archie’s interview in the Studio 5 show you can see that he is visibly sick with allergies. He has been sneezing and feeling sick since yesterday, but then he goes an sing like this… I’m speechless and amazed at Archie’s talent!!! David’s training, technique and passion will always pay off in moments when he is not at his 100% physically. David Archuleta at 17 its a Pro.

Hihi, there has to some fangirly posts after these right?????!!!! OMG!!!!! He sang Heavens!!!!!! Pure heavens!!! His AI journey fully revisited. And I am totally bowled over, all over again when I first came to know him at the audition rounds. Thank you, David!
GOSH at the “meeeeeeeee” in CRAZY!!!
Diana . July 15, 2008 .
Rascal, thank you for these two Studio 5 performances. There is only one word to describe my feelings now: CELESTIAL. Rejoice, rejoice, rejoice!!!
refnaf . July 15, 2008 .
i just adore the little hmmm he does before he begins. It’s like he’s just approaching the song and will allow the music to take him (and us) where ever it leads… amazing.
I am so excited……David said he loves to perform “Angels” and “I’ll be”!!!!! He loves “I’ll be”. Again, I am so excited, hoping he sing it some day. We got a lot of answered prayers, all in one week. Some fans attributed this to Jeff & company who are lurking (hi!!) and listening to the fans.
The younger David singing “I’ll be” for those who havent watched it before, sorry I am very excited….
Apologies to the original artists…..I now visualize and imagine David’s voice/version whenever the songs he has sung before come on the radio especially “Apologize”, “Angels”, “When You Believe”….
bigsky . July 16, 2008 .
Re: #8/Rifnaf: …he does the “hmmm” all the time, doesn’t he -- LOL!! Whenever someone enlightens him with a thought or idea… or in the “pause” before he begins to sing.. he gives a little “hmmm”… it just cracks me up! A very endearing habit, but I wonder if he knows he’s doing it.. (ha).
We all need to say a little prayer that David stays healthy during the tour…
we may find that he has to shake fewer hands and give out fewer hugs to fans in order to keep from getting sick.
brooklyndawn . July 16, 2008 .
Heaven is the song that made me realize I was going to be voting for David like a fiend. Hearing it today was bliss. He is so accomodating to his fans in so many ways. He is just wonderful.
cutter12 . July 16, 2008 .
After reading on many fansites of people’s concerns on David’s health and the rigors of such a long concert tour, I decided to share this story. I work in the same building as Studio-5 and took the opportunity to go see David perform on the show. It was 10:35 and I headed in back to see if I could get a sneak peak of David before the show. I saw the producers and hosts getting ready, when someone came running up and stating that David wasn’t here yet, and that in fact both David and Jeff were still asleep when the show had finally gotten ahold of them. So while everyone was setting up plan b, which was pretty much start in the big studio with the crowd for a teaser then move segment 2 and put David on when he got there. So, at 10:59am I’m in the big studio with everyone else when Brooke, the host, starts introducing the show and working the audience up into a frenzy, when lo and behold out runs David!. I was shocked. Seeing him, I definitly could tell that he must of just rolled out of bed. But he was pumped and excited and it was fun watching the show. So poor David had no warm-ups or rehersal time before the show. I got a chance to talk to Jeff Archuleta during commercial break and he claimed that somehow he didn’t hear his cell phone and it wasn’t until the station called into the room directly that he woke up. He laughingly claimed he thought it was only 7 or 8 and was shocked to find out what time it really was! Again I am shocked that they made it to the studio in time! I wonder if they had a police escort. lol.
cutter12 . July 16, 2008 .
Sorry, I wanted to mention the performances. David singing “Crazy” was just mind- blowing!. I never understood what the song was about. But when David sang it, I gained a new respect for the songwriters about the anguish that I feel the lyrics were trying to convey. And “Heaven” was just heavenly. My sentiments mirror a co-worker who stated, she was glad she took four years of college, so that she could get a job, so that she could be in this room, when David sang those songs.
rita . July 16, 2008 .
Sir Rascal,
thank you for welcoming me here. when i first saw the studio 5 vids my first reaction was how thin David had gotten! then i find out that he was sick during this time and probably overslept because he was not well. i guess what i want to know, as someone who cares for David, is: do they have his health taken care of when they are on the road?
also, i admire how David chooses to maintain a closeness with his fellow performers especially Jason Castro. however, i also know that Crazy is a part of Jason’s set on the Tour. Did David consult Jason when he chose to sing it on TV? i only ask because i know that a comparison between the two will be inevitable and i do not wish for the friendship between the two to be affected by it. hope you could answer my concerns. thank you. i only wish the best for David.
rita . July 16, 2008 .
Nevertheless, i would also like to thank cutter12 for his story! that made this tv guesting all the more wonderful!! not feeling well… just got out of bed… no rehearsals… but undeniably awesome performance!! the speculations about the Crazy auditions bespoke of his brilliance but the actual performance was ASTOUNDING! Definitely worth the wait!! SMART MOVE for David too. he offered something totally new yet very much identifiable with who David Archuleta is.
bigsky . July 16, 2008 .
Can you imagine their lives right now (Jeff & David’s)?? Sleeping in must be an extraordinary luxury now…
As for Jason & the song “Crazy” — I’m actually quite anxious to hear Jason’s version now that I have a better understanding of the song’s lyrics (thanks to the person here who posted that info). I love Jason’s earthy, smooth, honest style… so while I think David’s “Crazy” is absolute perfection (ha), I will probably appreciate Jason’s performance even more.
Question — what is the best way to record a bit of the performances at the concert? Are people using the video option on their digital cameras, or bring video cameras with them? At first, I wasn’t going to video anything — and just enjoy the performances. Now I’m rethinking that..
Are cameras even allowed (I guess I should ask that first)?
Thanks in advance..
I believe that the David/Jason/Crazy controversy is purely a fan controversy. I doubt that Jason or David begrudge the other in singing the song both chose to sing during auditions.
Thanks to Cutter12 for sharing a bit of inside information about David’s time at the station. I love those little bits of news!
lulu . July 16, 2008 .
I just loved both of his performances, I am continually blown away by David’s ability to sing the same song over and over yet sing it differently each time--he’s doing it on tour and he did it with “Crazy” two days in a row. My guess is that he sings according to how he’s feeling at the time. In my opinion that’s a musical gift, not a skill that can be learned. Maybe that’s one reason why listening to him is so magical, you never know what he’s going to do to a song. Poor kid, you could tell his allergies were really bothering him but he doesn’t let anything get in the way of a brilliant performance. I liked hearing him without all the screaming, he almost makes you sit still and listen to what he’s trying to say in the song. By the way, I can’t help but wonder (yes, I know, I’m bringing this up again, please don’t reprimand me!) why Jason received permission to perform “Crazy” on tour but not David. Once again, makes no sense! Anyway, I’m glad to have two new songs to enjoy every day (I have to listen to David every day or my day is not complete--is there anyone else that feels the same?)
refnaf . July 16, 2008 .
lulu… I totally feel that way… I am finding it difficult to listen to any other music. All I can think about is how much I want to hear David’s rendition of everysong I know!!! Everysong ever composed!!! Crazy.I stop here aleast twice a day. Now I must find a way to hear him live in TO but not finding anyone to tag along with me… sad
Thanks karidol #5 for this info! Good to know they’re on top of their fans’ wishes.
On a different note, looks like the tabloid mudslinging gossip is starting all over again (guess this is part of the course of being famous) -- this one I got at a forum that shared a link to a radio dj’s blog:
Quote:
OneRepublic’s Ryan Tedder is less than pleased that Idol runner-up David Archuleta is singing his band’s hit Apologize every night on the Idols Live tour, saying it’s “bizarre.” I think what really bugs him is how Archuleta’s dad keeps calling to find out what else he’s got that his kid can sing…
1. I don’t believe Jeff is doing this at all; and 2. If there is any kernel of truth in this report about Ryan Tedder, I’m simply going to conclude that he views David as a threat, especially considering that David blows him out of the water on his own song (JMHO).
During finale night, I did detect a bit of competition on Ryan’s part since he seemed not too keen on harmonizing with David’s voice on “Apologize,” especially on the last note. That the performance came off well had alot to do with David’s musicality in working around the band on this.
Anyway, it’s not that I’m taking these reports too seriously, but unfortunately, David and Jive have to depend on radio djs for airtime on his first single (and it would be great to hear his song introduced on the radio without alot of dj “snark” that colors how a listener will receive it).
thatguycansing . July 16, 2008 .
Thank you Rascal for the Heaven download. I feel the whole AI thing is complete. They no longer are holding back anything I really want anymore!
I hope this isn’t off topic -- I listened to Robbie Williams Angels last night and listening to David singing the same song, he has rearranged almost the entire song with just his voice! In David’s version I can barely recognize the original anymore. It has become David’s song and he has really made it “his own” (much better than the original, IMHO). I am really amazed his interpretation!!!! But I guess by now I should really get used to that feeling, huh?
Thanks again Rascal!
Tinuviel . July 16, 2008 .
Of course, to speculate would be doing something similar to what that dj did, but I am doing it anyway, besides this isn’t a publication, so it’s justifiable, right?
It is difficult to speculate to much, without knowing what else Tedder said. The one word quote “bizarre” doesn’t enlighten too much. The single fact that this dj chose to include only a one word quote, without it’s context, is highly suspicious to me. The dj is then allowed to spin his own ‘context’. Tedder could have meant that it was ‘bizarre’ that David had chosen one of his songs to perform on tour. He could have meant it in a positive way, rather than a negative. The press is wildly irresponsible in the entertainment industry, journalistic integrity is not what earns them readers and listeners. Balanced reporting? doubt they know what that means………
I did read a fan’s story on meeting RT. She said she told RT how much she had loved his duet with David on the show, he replied that David ‘was awesome, wasn’t he’. I do know that I have definitely heard RT’s ‘Apologize’ quite a bit more on the radio. RT received $ for the rights so David could sing it, and he receives $ everytime even a snippet is played, I hardly think he would be complaining. In my own opinion, I do not think RT was trying to compete with David in the duet. They probably did not have that much time to rehearse the song, given both of their schedules, and they just have a different way of approaching parts of the song, and made it work as well as they could, which turned out to be spectacular. David’s version on his own, has so much more soul, his runs are amazing, the musical contrasts David’s richly textured voice brings within the song are astounding. RT doesn’t have the voice or the style to accomplish this. RT relies on his falsetto, while David can sing it using his ‘ beautiful head voice’ (that MCL hopes he never loses, and neither do we). All in all, in my opinion (not worth much I know), RT more than likely appreciates David’s abilities and is excited to write songs for him. David has been described by so many as ‘a songwriters dream’. RT is a songwriter first, a recording artist second, sometimes the songs he writes aren’t his style or he isn’t able to sing them the way he intends it to sound, so he shops around for the person he most feels could do the song justice. David is going to fill those shoes for a lot of songwriters, because of his well trained technique and masterful interpretations. I am sure that it isn’t hard for a songwriter worth his salt to see that and welcome the opportunity.
As for the last part about Jeff……I really think that was meant as a joke, a bad one, don’t know if it was on the part of the dj or RT, but I have a feeling it was on the part of the dj, kind of like those really bad ones that sometimes appear on late night TV………………….taking it all with a grain of salt, perhaps a whole teaspoon when it comes to David, that way my lips will be so puckered and my tongue so curled, I won’t be able to say anything about it……..lol.
bigsky . July 16, 2008 .
Good points, Tinuviel… I think you’re right. A word or two taken out of context from an entire conversation or interview does not a quote make.
All good points. Thanks for your interpretation, Tinuviel.

Hahaha, I’m glad to hear that they overslept Tuesday morning, it was well deserved! I saw David with a huge grin on his face, waving with both hands walking backward as the handlers practically dragged him onto the bus. This was at midnight Monday after the concert (I don’t think he made it to 2/3 of the fans who waited outside, me included). But any of you out there who have a 17 yr. old know how resilient they are. That he was able to whip it together and sing like THAT so soon after snoozing is fabulous!
As for his allergies, almost everyone here in Utah is now or has been sniffling and dripping, its a pain, but is temporary and certainly not an ‘illness’. As he said in an earlier interview, when mentioning his allergies, “It happens every year, I’m good”!
We are all concerned for his health cause we care so much about him, but he’s smart, a serious vocal student, and has a wonderful Dad to help out, I’m not too worried.
Oh by the way, it was soooo worth it to endure the rest of the concert to hear him sing in person Rascal! Earplugs were an excellent suggestion however, Janey.
Janey . July 16, 2008 .
Haven’t time to read all the posts this a.m. but will later. A quick note however, please take a few minutes to listen to David’s performance from last night, day 2 in Utah. Don’t miss it! rascal, and all the others, when you’ve dried your tears and dusted off your thesaurus let me know what you think. He was stronger and better than ever.
daisychain . July 16, 2008 .
Tinuviel -- thanks for your observations -- I think they are accurate.
I have one more little story from yesterday. Tuesday I went up to see if I could see David after their buses arrived. He did come out and was hurredly signing autographs for people. The handler had us just take pictures as he walked by signing -- not many hugs or photos with David given. I stood on the little hill watching because I just wanted to watch him interacting with fans. Stupid me -- should have had the video on the camera on, but I tried to take a couple of pictures. I noticed a group waiting patiently in the drive as David worked the crowd toward them. There were about three people with a girl in a wheelchair. I’m guessing she was in her late teens or early 20′s. I don’t know her condition, but it was a permanent condition that had her in a wheelchair. I decided to go get at the end of the line and wait for a chance for David to sign an autograph and while I was waiting this group passed by, going back to the parking area. The girl was beaming and she said something like “That was totally incredible!” Now I wish I had witnessed the actual incredible moment.
marc . July 16, 2008 .
Janey, when I got up this morning I clicked on FB and there were the new David meeting the fans stories which always get a smile and a laugh out of me. The I clicked on the links to the videos and the tears started flowing spontaneously, I just cannot verbalize what I feel when I hear David’s voice, I can’t explain it to myself so I sure couldn’t explain it to anyone else. The double whammy of David’s gift and the beautiful aura that emanates from within him is more than I can handle.
daisychain . July 16, 2008 .
After listening to last night’s performance, I wished I had stayed and bought a ticket and risked going completely deaf. Beautiful, beautiful.
Thanks, Rascal, for the download, you’re an Angel!
And thanks for your post Cutter12. When the host mentioned the show doesn’t usually have a studio audience and they panned the crowd on folding chairs, I thought, wow, what a gift to hear David sing at such close-range, how blessed they must feel right now? It must have been beyond amazing.
cutter12 . July 16, 2008 .
Bigsky, I am from the era when they had never allowed any kind of recording device in at a concert. So, wanting very much to record David’s performance I placed my video camera under my armpit, lucky they’re so small now lol, And put on a large t-shirt. I saw no signs about recording devices at the venue, so I don’t know if concert promoters have just given up. Though I didn’t see anyone openily carry in a camera. So, you may want to be secretive, just in case.

AMAZING WEEKEND. 2 concerts, 3 meetings with David, and time spent with Josie and other Archuleta lovers. I don’t know how my life will get back to normal, but I’m pretty sure right now that I don’t want it to.
David Archuleta is pure light that attracts love to his flame. He is the most beautiful human being on the planet, inside and out and barely belongs in this world. The difference in the way he sings and the way he interacts with his fans, in comparison to the other Idols, is incredible. But then you all knew that. And they are just normal people after all! (I am only half joking with these comments!)
I haven’t listened to a single youtube of the concerts, just have what’s in my head. David was pretty much flawless both nights. We had good seats and though it was crazy loud, I didn’t find it hard to hear David sing or what he was saying. And the outfit was simply immaterial to the music and the emotion there. I really felt that Tuesday he was really conscious of not getting too overwhelmed by emotion as he had the night before. He didn’t let the screaming go on as long and even mentioned that he didn’t want to be embarrassed again.
Anyway, I want to journal the entire weekend with pictures and everything. If Rascal is OK with it, I might just post a link here or something to the finished thing for anyone who might be interested. So many observations and personal stories. . . . . Incredible.

Josie! I hope you had a great time -- How could you not? If you look at one of the earlier threads, Rascal posted my account of my five minutes with David. It was way too short! And it was so hard to maintain my journalist’s resolve and not start gushing about how amazing he is. Glad you got to hear him live. Hope you and Rascal have fun in N.H.

So I was walking home from work today and got to thinking about David’s new album. And I have to admit I’m nervous. Maybe anxious is the better word.
After all of these performances in the last few days, and seeing him live on Saturday, I am just in awe of how intertwined David becomes with a live audience. It’s his reason for existence. While someone like Mariah Carey probably loves the sound of her own voice, we all know David has zero interest in listening to a recording of himself singing. For him, the singing is merely a method to convey a message or emotions. The experience is only whole if there’s someone on the other side as invested in the experience as he is. I think I’m maybe only using different worlds to say the same thing Rascal has pointed out before. But …
How is that experience going to be conveyed in a studio album? David only sees some sound engineers behind glass with piles of computers in front of them as he sings the words. For some singers, that environment is ideal because it helps them focus and experiment with mulitiple takes -- not to mention the effect of the computers to buff out any imperfections. But David’s not like that. I’m not sure he’s ever going to be capable of being like that.
I fear the new songs will lack the passion that can only be achieved through a performance in front of a live, invested audience. I only downloaded a couple of his iTunes recordings during the season because I couldn’t bear to hear him in that sterile environment. It saps away the very essence that pulls us in like a tractor beam -- his sheer sincerity.
Sorry to be so glum, but that’s the way I see it. Maybe his first album will be a precurser to an unbelievable live album.
Or maybe it will be like the great 1980s movie “Diva” in which the great opera singer says:
“l sing because l love to sing . Alone , l can’t. l need the public. The concert is an exceptional moment. . . . . .for the artist, for the listener. lt’s a unique moment.”
Val.braz . July 16, 2008 .
Caseydog -- sorry, I’m new here so I don’t know your name -- you’ve just put into words what I’ve been feeling and thinking about David’s music. Whenever I compare the live and studio versions of his performances on American Idol -- I have many of them in both formats -- I invariably feel let down but the latter. I want to believe that the people working with him are sensitive and experienced enough to have noticed that and will know how to make him comfortable and stimulated for this challenge.
Caseydog, I know what you mean about many of the studio versions, but listen to “When You Believe” and “Think of Me” and see if you still feel the same way.
I’m trying not to have too many expectations about this first CD (not easy) because of all the reasons you mentioned and also because of the pressurized conditions under which it’s being recorded.
And I also think I’m not that worried about it because of the way David never ceases to surprise and amaze us when we least expect it. As Rascal has said, “Trust the Archulator.”
caseydog . July 16, 2008 .
TOfan: It’s funny you mention “when you believe” -- I almost wrote that that was an exception. It is the only one of his AI iTunes recordings that I still listen to regularly. In the case of that song, I feel a faint resonance of that live connection -- but more important, I think his recording of that song stretched him more vocally than any other, and that’s what salvages it for me.
You are right -- I should trust him. David knows what’s right for David. But I can’t help shake the feeling that 19/Jive are seeing dollar signs and will do anything to rush songs onto the market, whether the capture David’s vitality or not.
bigsky . July 16, 2008 .
Cutter12 -- thanks for the tip about covert camera operations — and btw, I’m from the same era where we had to sneak cameras into concerts.. LOL!
Caseydog -- I have had the same, exact thoughts that you’ve had about the impending album! But I got over that “hump” by thinking of Broadway musicals on CD that are still packed with emotion even though you cannot see the actors performing. In the end, that’s what separates David from other artists -- he doesn’t need to be seen to be felt (if that makes sense). Although I PREFER to watch him sing (eyes closed, and lips a-lickin’), with David’s voice you can hear his heart. I never agreed with ol’-whats-his-name that the “eyes have it”… I appreciate when David closes his eyes, because I know he’s “lost” in the song — and he’s about to make us “understand” the song. I think we’re going to be pleasantly surprised when his CD is released!

Only time for quick scan of comments, hope I’m not duplicating responses.
bigsky #17 -- you can bring in the little pocket-sized digital cameras that record movies, but at least in Portland, no major filming equipment allowed. My tiny Olympus (which I wore openly on a shoulder strap, and the bag checker at the entrance plainly saw) did a great job with the movies—I’m so glad I took them, even though I couldn’t simply soak in the performances without the camera distraction. When I posted the video (my first) on YouTube, tho’, I discovered that their compression is so extreme that the quality doesn’t look that great. Still, it’s wonderful to have my own concert here on my computer! I say it’s worth taking a little camera in.
#22 hello gorgeous -- I wondered that during the duet too, that Tedder wasn’t too keen on the duet because of that abrupt ending, it seemed that David was prepared to sing a more polished ending but he got cut off. I was also annoyed that he was positioned to sing backup to Tedder, essentially, whereas Cook played lead to ZZ Top. More AI “cooking the books” on David—not a fair shake in many ways, but I’ll try not to beat that drum any more. (grrr) But, like Tinuviel, I have also read elsewhere that Tedder thinks David has an incredible voice, and the quote seemed to imply genuine admiration. I guess journalists just spin anything according to their own preferences. That one was probably a Cook fan.
Ely . July 16, 2008 .
David looked really tired in these vids. In fact in the interview he said he was tired. I was afraid his voice was going to be “entirely gone” in the middle of CRAZY (just like when he sang the spanish song in Honduras). But I think his training showed when he was able to pull that one off. Heaven was just beautiful although he looked exhausted.
I worry about David. Will he ever find time to rest? He is just constantly giving of himself. I wished he’d say “no” sometimes and get himself rested a bit.
About his album, I too worry a little but I believed there was a newspaper article where either Dean or Jeff was saying something about how complicated the process is in recording David’s songs (and for the life of me I can not remember where this article appeared. Anyone?). In it they said that the AI studio recordings are just an “after thought” compared to what David is doing with his songs that go into his album. This is very encouraging to me that the label is actually doing something to make David’s album special. I am sure these people in the music business understand that in order to really make money out of David, they have to put out the best album out there. Thousands of people will buy David’s album because they like him as a person and his voice but millions more will buy his album because they put out the best songs that fit him out there. It would be sad if David’s first album would fail because the quality is no more than an AI studio version. I do believe we will be very pleasantly surprised.

I was at the Orlando concert at the House of Blues, and Ryan was explaining why OneRepublic had to postpone the concert to that night. He was talking about His performance on American Idol and how the producers were making 1R do “Apologize” instead of “Say”. So, Ryan went on to explain that the producers of American Idol told him that David Archuleta was going to lock eyes with him when he came on, and, needless to say, the band was a little freaked out, and Ryan was like, “What’s your demographic?” Before the performance, Ryan went over to talk to David Archuleta and that’s when he said, “Dude, if you lock eyes with me during tis song, I will jump up over this piano on my gimp leg and bust you in the head.” And David was like, “*whimper*.” This little story also explains why David looked so scared during the performance…
#22, #24 -- I got the above bit of info from a One Republic Fan Forum in which Ryan Tedder purportedly spoke about his experience during the AI Finale. Now I’d like to give Tedder the benefit of a doubt and think that there is an innocent explanation to this, but I’m finding it difficult to do so. If Tedder really did say those words then I think he’s the biggest “lower behind” in the world and his fans apparently are from the same class! Some may claim that his words were meant as a joke and if so, frankly, I fail to find the humor and I think it’s tasteless and vile.
If David’s single is really coming out in August then I hope the AI producers will allow him to sing it on the tour and replace ‘Apologize’ with it. No point in putting money in Tedder’s pockets if he’s so negative about the whole thing. As for his fans who made fun of David based on the above quote from Tedder , all I can say is “low lives”!

I think the Jive folks know gold when they see it and that they won’t shoot themselves in the foot by forcing David to put out an album that won’t allow him to really showcase himself superbly. I can’t believe they would be that shortsighted with a phenomenal talent like David. Once they hear him live, they have to know what a huge star he can/will be. Also, when David’s been asked about when his CD will be coming out, he always mentions a date he’s hopeful for, but indicates that the main concern is to have a great album. I don’t think David/Jeff/Dean would let Jive put out an inferior work. They know what DJ is capable of and won’t want to put out anything but his best effort. So, I have faith it will be superlative.
As far as David not having the passion in the studio as is evident when he sings live, I think they will make efforts to counter that. I remember Coal Miner’s Daughter, the movie about Loretta Lynn. When her husband first set up a recording session for her, she fell flat…until he carried in her four little ones and sat them in a semi-circle around her. Then, she sang her heart out. If need be, they’ll bring in some of David’s friends or family for him to focus on as he sings. I’m certain that they’ll do all they can to make the album a success. It’s money in their pocket if they do.
On another note, I can’t tell you how PROUD and THRILLED I was when Will and Katee’s song began on “So You Think You Can Dance”. I heard David’s exquisite voice and saw his name showcased to the side. Honestly, I felt like busting my buttons!! *Sigh* David’s journey to the stars has begun. I am SO tickled for him!
thatguycansing . July 17, 2008 .
Caseydog-if an audience might make the performance better, I’m sure we would all be more than willing to accomodate him and sit in the studio and cheer, right? LOL
Maybe after this tour experience he might really believe there IS an audience out there for him and it will give him more and more passion in the studio!
But if he may ever a a larger audience while recording, put me on that list!!! LOL. I can dream -- can’t I?
rascal . July 17, 2008 .
I have no reason to give Ryan Tedder the benefit of any doubts. Insecurity, territoriality, pride and pretentiousness are far more common in the music business, indeed the world, than the much rarer and far more courageous values exhibited by David Archuleta. Furthermore, any artist who utters the word “demographics” has no claim to being a true artist. True artists shudder at the thought of such base commercial considerations. Tedder is exceedingly typical in this regard: He agrees to appear on a show he dismisses and despises because it will boost his public and financial profile. That’s the portrait of a cynic and the behavior of a sellout.
Diana . July 17, 2008 .
#28 Janey,
When I first listen to day 2 Utah performances on Video I was so glad that I could hear clearly what David was singing and was thankful that the screaming was less intense and loud; I could not hear his talking though. On further viewing, I realised that it was not the case. The noise of appreciation was just as loud and ear piercing as the previous day.The truth is, David’s voice has become stronger and better and he has a better command of the stage and situation. David is moving forward by leaps and bounds. A megarstar is in the making, and it will come sooner than later!

highervibe --
I’ve watched the ending of the A.I. “Apologize” performance a LOT (ha)… and what it looks like to me is that David’s ending was interrupted by the audience, which became THUNDEROUS before Tedder finished his run, passing it off to David… I think David’s expression is more about realizing he was not going to be heard no matter what he sang at that point.. LOL. Paula was already standing before David finished as well… I think, in hindsight, if Tedder was being protective of his work (he wrote the song), it was probably natural. However, on his website when he was apologizing to his fans for canceling his show to perform on A.I. -- he said it was an opportunity they could not pass up. Later, however, the band erased that entry (a fan had saved it and reposted it)… maybe because they realized they weren’t supposed to let the cat out of the bag about their performance, and what they were going to sing, etc. So, the band WAS happy about being able to perform on A.I.
RT wasn’t negative about A.I. then… I really think he probably has a problem with being CLEAR when he’s speaking. I watched an interview he did, and he looked SOOOO disinterested and irritated. Maybe that’s just the kind of person he is, and doesn’t really mean anything by it, or intend to come across the way he does? Who knows…
I’ve been really thinking about the DJ who has taken it upon himself to regurgitate Tedder’s comments…. he seems to be putting into words what he felt RT was saying “between the lines”, and not actually quoting him.
In the end, A.I. would not have David singing Apologize if it had not been cleared with the writer (R.T.), and I have no doubt R.T. has been paid handsomely for the use of his work. He may even negate a contract if he speaks negatively about a deal that he was a part of… you know?
Arch4mal #45 and Rascal, I’m inclined to agree that Ryan is a big ol’ hypocrite, a cynic, and gigantic homophobe (all rolled into one -- that joke is so tasteless, and could only come from an insecure “artist” who must be threatened by the likes of David). Although the Fan Forum quote is hearsay, I see no reason why a fan would attribute something Ryan said if it weren’t true.
And although David’s “Apologize” is one of my favorite tour performances of his, I would be more than happy if he decides to drop it and sing something else (why line Ryan’s pockets when he’s going to be so derisive?). Maybe change to “Waiting on the World to Change”? I would say “Crazy,” but that’s Jason’s tour song right now.
Or better yet, perform “Crush”!
Freo . July 17, 2008 .
About David’s recording sessions and the albums, I am not worried too much about them. Those AI ITunes sessions were rushed and badly produced, with little thought put into instrumentality or mixing. I wouldn’t base his album on that. He’ll have top-notch people working in the studio and more time to get the tracks right.
It’s unbelievable that the press is still reporting on the “dad” stuff with David. There were some airport arrival photos posted yesterday and the tabloid had written a snarky comment. I think at this point that many people no longer believe the comments, and they are really beginning to look silly, but it’s still annoying that this commentary keeps following David around.
If Tedder did make the comment about locking eyes with David, that is truly odd!
thatguycansing . July 17, 2008 .
#53 I agree the AI instrumental tracks really sucked! I don’t think they really captured who David really is at all! I really hope he gets connected with people who really, really understand him and take the TIME to listen to what he thinks he wants or he uses this first experience to really gain knowledge into what it IS he really wants! I am optimistic!
PS I don’t think I have ever cared about any artist’s career until David came along, I am really surprised how much I do genuinely care! UGH!
lulu . July 17, 2008 .
Good morning everyone! How nice it is to go to YouTube, type in “David Archuleta Crazy” and actually see results! I love it, and when you consider that he was miserable with allergies, unrehearsed and probably still half asleep, he did pretty good! I would imagine that these versions are very close to what he did on AI. Think what he would have sounded like if he had been more prepared! I thought David’s duet with One Republic was awesome but if #45arch4mal said is true, then I don’t think too highly of Ryan Tedder. Even if RT was joking around his words were still inexcusable. I think that David outsang him on the duet. Oh well, who knows the whole story?
And I have to admit that I’ve been worried about the quality of David’s CD, Clay Aiken’s debut CD (Measure of a Man) was not that good in my opinion, don’t know the label but TPTB were just interested in making a real fast profit so they rushed him in and out and the end results sounded like it! David knows what he wants to do and how he wants to do it, hope they just turn him loose and not release the CD until David feels he’s done his best. #47Bookaholic remarked that David is better in front of a live audience. I know for a fact Lucille Ball was, that’s why she and Desi were so insistent that “I Love Lucy” be filmed in front of a studio audience. I’m not sure that having an audience will make a difference with David. I have some of his recordings on a CD (from limewire or whatever it is) and he sounds gorgeous to me, I can really feel the emotion in the studio versions of “When You Believe,” and “Love Me Tender” so who knows? All I know is, I sincerely hope his CD is worth the wait. He hasn’t disappointed his fans yet! Have a good day everyone!
This is weird, I usually agree with everyone here, lol. When I started hearing those reports about Jeff Archuleta being a “stage dad,” my gut instinct told me none of it was true. It’s been telling me the same thing now about this Ryan Tedder “story.”
I don’t believe everything I read in the newspaper, never mind the Internet (which has turned the “telephone game” into big business). You may say I’m a dreamer… but I’m not the only one (am I?).
Josie . July 17, 2008 .
TOfan, I’m with you on this one. I tend to discard rumors and speculation and lean towards being the eternal optimist that I am because at the end of the day, why waste good energy on silly stuff? If RT did in fact say this, it’s clearly his loss, not ours.
Nuff said.
refnaf . July 17, 2008 .
TOfan and Josie…. I agree, so much of what’s “out there” is slanted and truly nothing can take away from the artist that David is and will continue to be. I also have some concerns about the album but I know there will be many more and I will wait patiently (well, not too patiently) for each one.
I just ordered my tickets for the Toronto show!! Excitement!!! Not sure who I will bring along and whether or not to meet the buses I am torn between feeling too old for this fan girl stuff but feel compelled to try to meet someone who I admire so much… Still thinking>>
center floor row 12!!!!!!!!!!!!
Tinuviel . July 17, 2008 .
I find it odd that in one thread we bring up all the hoopla that got started by unsubstantiated rumours published by press concerning Jeff, and a one word quote from RT and questionable context, and a RT fan (who is NOT an AI fan, thank you BigSky for sharing that back when we discussed this) who posted something entirely unsubstatiated by anyone else concerning RT (at least when I last searched for anything else on this several weeks ago, I found zip, anyone else who has found anything, please let me know). I, myself, will not complain that others did it in regards to Jeff and David, and then turn around and do it to another artist. For myself, I will wait until it can be substantiated that RT actually made those comments, or he otherwise acts in a public way towards David that will at that time reveal himself, before I form a negative opinion of RT in this matter. In the interview with Good Morning Utah, Jeff talks about realizing how you need to give people the benefit of the doubt in regards to all the stuff reported in tabloids. These supposed comments by RT didn’t even make it into the tabloids. (again, as far as I could find). I’m with TOfan and Josie, I will reserve judgement.
Josie . July 17, 2008 .
ref-YOU ARE NOT too old!! Believe me, much of my joy was watching David interact with his fans, so if all you do is observe at the busses, so be it. Your seats will be killer -- be careful!
Congrats, Refnaf! (I’m centre floor, row 30!) If you do decide to meet the buses beforehand, let me know!
refnaf . July 17, 2008 .
Tofan, I believe I’m in!! How can I not? I have never done anything like this… I will probably just be an observer like Josie says but who knows? Killer seats ? oh my…
caseydog . July 17, 2008 .
Josie! Did I read somewhere that you got to meet David? You must tell me us your impression. If he only knew you were the coiner of “Love Nugget.” LOL
rascal . July 17, 2008 .
I’ve done some additional research on this RT story (and RT in general) and the upshot is: it’s confusing. Aspects of the story appear to be true (1R did have to reschedule a concert for the AI appearance, for example), but specifics get murky. In the direct interviews with RT that I’ve read, I have to say he sounds pretty much like an ass (he thoroughly trashed Hilary Duff, despite the fact that wrote for her). On the other hand, he’s worked with a lot of producers and performers (and more than one AI alum), and you don’t get to do that by bad-mouthing and burning bridges. At least not for long. I should have prefaced my previous comments with “IF he did indeed say that…” Certain fans on his own official site forum are, however, using the quote from the story about threatening David in their signature blocks. Lovely.
thatguycansing . July 17, 2008 .
TOfan, I hope you really have a great time in those amazing close up seats! I hope that voice will just blows you away!
I think the truth about Tedder lies somewhere in between all this hoopla! But, you know what, I just don’t care! All I know is the only reason I bought APOLOGIZE is because David sang it! $$$$KaChing$$$!
thatguycansing . July 17, 2008 .
refnaf -- I hope you have a great time too! Row 12 WOWOWOW! To wear Ear plugs or not to wear ear plugs that is the question!
PS I didn’t mean to sound so harsh above! I think David will just fine no matter what is said about him. He’s kind of already proven that.
barbs . July 17, 2008 .
Yes, on the ear plugs. Only take them out for David’s set. I’d go for noise canceling head phones on top of them if I were you, Rascal. The other performances were as I was expecting, I’d consider coming at around intermission if I were you. The audience was amazingly loud and enthusiastic for David. In order to compensate, I think, They turned up the decibels on the band for Cook’s set, to assure the comparison in volume wasn’t so marked. My brother came home deaf in one ear for several hours. Taking a stroll in the lobby for Cook might also be a good idea, and return for the final group number with David. Do go, however, hearing David sing live was definitely worth the pain.
daisychain . July 17, 2008 .
Earplugs? Yes. If you don’t use them you won’t be able to hear by David’s number. It’s safe to have them out for Brooke and I think Jason.
The ringing in my ear stopped by day 3. It might have been from the screaming during David’s number… He he he. My own screaming. I only cheered in between numbers, though.
As the camera panned the audience during Cook’s videotaping of the audience, I think I spotted Dean Kaelin in front with earplugs in. Or a look-alike with earplugs in. We have to preserve what hearing we have left so we can listen to David’s music for many years to come.
thatguycansing . July 17, 2008 .
This is why I am all for SING IT-DON’T SCREAM IT (t-shirt Rascal). Have you ever been to a concert a heard 15,000+ people singing the same song together at the tops of their lungs? It can really be a powerful point of connection between artist and audience. But I fear I may have to wait until some of his audience gets a little older. But by then it might not matter, my hearing will already be gone, but for a totally different reason!!! HAHAHAHA!
Freo . July 17, 2008 .
Thanks for the tip on bringing noise-canceling headphones. I think I will use both those and earplugs next week in Indy.
bigsky . July 17, 2008 .
Hi Rascal..
Well.. after reading that DJ’s rant, I posted a very brief thread at 1R’s site asking about the quote to see if anyone could verify it — or at the least offer a link to an interview where the DJ of that radio station got his gossip from. I’ve been gone most of the day, and never returned to the thread to see if anyone responded. I have defended David at that site once before (I joined the forum after RT & David performed on AI — I was an instant fan of 1R). The fan base for 1R is somewhat varied, and probably college age, so you’re going to get some pretty off-color comments there. I have no problem putting in my 2 cents, but am reluctant to jump into the fire if one’s a-brewin!!! However, I never take anti-D.A. comments with any shred of legitimacy. Ignorance is bliss… plus, you know the old saying — “More for me”.. ha!

I have enjoyed reading everyones comments on this site. Rascal and this site have helped me at times to gain new perspective on David Archuleta, Jeff and family and the at times horrible things said about them all.

David is pure love and light. I know we all passionately adore this young man and will protect him like a mama bear protects a precious cub. Spread the love and light.
I just want to thank everyone for sharing their feelings about David. I have serious ODD and not too much support from my husband & 14 year old son who think it’s creepy that I’m so obsessed by a 17 year old boy. It’s David’s light and his voice.
To all those older fans who are waffling about going to a concert -- GO!!! I went to the San Diego concert. There were more adults than kids. It was SO worth it to hear David in person -- something about his voice that no cd is ever going to capture.

Thanks for sharing. The quality of the videos is incredibly good. This is the only videos where I could hear his talking and I hang on to every word of it. He sings and looks gorgeous. The suits that I hated at first sight now look good on him. Its magical, I thought I lost consciousness for a few seconds while watching one of these videos, and now I can’t evern remember which one !

*Swoons.*
Wow…I had no idea he was going to reprise an extended version of “Heaven.”
David, what are you doing to me? LOL
Thanks, Rascal!
Thank you.
Rascal, thank you for these two Studio 5 performances. There is only one word to describe my feelings now: CELESTIAL. Rejoice, rejoice, rejoice!!!
i just adore the little hmmm he does before he begins. It’s like he’s just approaching the song and will allow the music to take him (and us) where ever it leads… amazing.
Two words for David Archuleta…AMAZING SUPERSTAR!
And these two words are only his. O’-)
Anybody seen the The Studio 5 interview???
http://studio5.ksl.com/?nid=71&sid=3768747
I am so excited……David said he loves to perform “Angels” and “I’ll be”!!!!! He loves “I’ll be”. Again, I am so excited, hoping he sing it some day. We got a lot of answered prayers, all in one week. Some fans attributed this to Jeff & company who are lurking (hi!!) and listening to the fans.
The younger David singing “I’ll be” for those who havent watched it before, sorry I am very excited….
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AdjGDb1aWXY&feature=related
Apologies to the original artists…..I now visualize and imagine David’s voice/version whenever the songs he has sung before come on the radio especially “Apologize”, “Angels”, “When You Believe”….
Heaven is the song that made me realize I was going to be voting for David like a fiend. Hearing it today was bliss. He is so accomodating to his fans in so many ways. He is just wonderful.
I wonder if they had a police escort. lol.
Sir Rascal,
thank you for welcoming me here. when i first saw the studio 5 vids my first reaction was how thin David had gotten! then i find out that he was sick during this time and probably overslept because he was not well. i guess what i want to know, as someone who cares for David, is: do they have his health taken care of when they are on the road?
also, i admire how David chooses to maintain a closeness with his fellow performers especially Jason Castro. however, i also know that Crazy is a part of Jason’s set on the Tour. Did David consult Jason when he chose to sing it on TV? i only ask because i know that a comparison between the two will be inevitable and i do not wish for the friendship between the two to be affected by it. hope you could answer my concerns. thank you. i only wish the best for David.
A must watch:
http://studio5.ksl.com/?nid=71&sid=3768747
I believe that the David/Jason/Crazy controversy is purely a fan controversy. I doubt that Jason or David begrudge the other in singing the song both chose to sing during auditions.
Thanks to Cutter12 for sharing a bit of inside information about David’s time at the station. I love those little bits of news!
Anyway, I’m glad to have two new songs to enjoy every day (I have to listen to David every day or my day is not complete--is there anyone else that feels the same?)
lulu… I totally feel that way… I am finding it difficult to listen to any other music.
Source: http://bigjim.com/?p=342
So many observations and personal stories. . . . . Incredible.
Archu_adorable -- I am having scotch-a-roo withdrawals, to say nothing of my withdrawals from all of you. You welcomed me and others into your home and made me feel like I’ve always belonged there and for that, thank you. I adore you and your family and believe me when I say, I will see you again very soon.
Hugs.
Cutter12 -- thanks for the tip about covert camera operations
— and btw, I’m from the same era where we had to sneak cameras into concerts..
My daughter is a huge “So You Think You Can Dance” fan…so when I heard her yelling, “Moooooom — you better get down here” -- I knew that something involving David Archuleta was on t.v.

I almost nodded off to sleep tonight without posting this. I’m sure it’s already up at other sites -- but thought incase there are any other night owls out there tonight, I’d give you a midnight snack.. LOL!
AND SO THE “CRAP” BEGINS……..SUCKS………!THE KID JUST WANTS TO SING!!!
#28 Janey,
When I first listen to day 2 Utah performances on Video I was so glad that I could hear clearly what David was singing and was thankful that the screaming was less intense and loud; I could not hear his talking though.
Just food for thought.
UGH!
TOfan, I’m with you on this one. I tend to discard rumors and speculation and lean towards being the eternal optimist that I am because at the end of the day, why waste good energy on silly stuff? If RT did in fact say this, it’s clearly his loss, not ours.
Nuff said.
I’m with TOfan and Josie, I will reserve judgement.
ref-YOU ARE NOT too old!! Believe me, much of my joy was watching David interact with his fans, so if all you do is observe at the busses, so be it. Your seats will be killer -- be careful!
Congrats, Refnaf! (I’m centre floor, row 30!) If you do decide to meet the buses beforehand, let me know!
Tofan, I believe I’m in!! How can I not? I have never done anything like this… I will probably just be an observer like Josie says but who knows? Killer seats ? oh my…
Josie! Did I read somewhere that you got to meet David? You must tell me us your impression. If he only knew you were the coiner of “Love Nugget.” LOL
Lovely.
$$$$KaChing$$$!
refnaf -- I hope you have a great time too! Row 12 WOWOWOW! To wear Ear plugs or not to wear ear plugs that is the question!
PS I didn’t mean to sound so harsh above! I think David will just fine no matter what is said about him. He’s kind of already proven that.
Earplugs?
HAHAHAHA!
Thanks for the tip on bringing noise-canceling headphones. I think I will use both those and earplugs next week in Indy.
Hi Rascal..
Well.. after reading that DJ’s rant, I posted a very brief thread at 1R’s site asking about the quote to see if anyone could verify it — or at the least offer a link to an interview where the DJ of that radio station got his gossip from. Ignorance is bliss… plus, you know the old saying — “More for me”.. ha!
Refnaf: I have been a long time lurker. I have been looking for tickets for the Canada show. Would you be interested in me tagging a long or buying your second ticket? Just an offer. I will totally understand if you are hesitant.
OH MY DAVID!!!!!!
IF YOU HAVE NOT SEEN THESE VIDEOS FROM SLC YOU MUST!!!!
88Aladdin has 4 videos up close & personal!!!!

Thanks for sharing. The quality of the videos is incredibly good. This is the only videos where I could hear his talking and I hang on to every word of it. He sings and looks gorgeous. The suits that I hated at first sight now look good on him. Its magical, I thought I lost consciousness for a few seconds while watching one of these videos, and now I can’t evern remember which one !
you are most welcome… but credit goes to itto (see latest post from Rascal) and from Fanblast where I first saw the link. Just had to get it up on this site. Rascal was right behind me and was probably writing his commentary as I was posting the link.
Simply awsome…. and again I just have to grin and sometimes laugh when I see him do the UTAAAAHHHHH….!!!!!!! COOL BEANS!!!!
I don’t even see the suit anymore….
thanks itto for the awesome video… perfection

TOfan perhaps we can meet up… Are you going to the fanblast thing? I have no idea where to meet bussed etc.!!! but would like to!!
Refnaf, after reading the stories/comments on Rascal’s new post I feel I simply must go to the fanblast shoutout and wait for the buses — want to show David as much support as possible. Either click on my name below and leave a comment, or email me at deb416@gmail.com (back in TO on Mon.).
