Album to Include David’s Writing

Team David has been hinting around about it for weeks now, inside sources have indicated its likelihood, and now it seems as if it is all but confirmed. Sources close to the Archuletas have said that we “don’t need to hope any longer,” because the inclusion of at least one of David’s songs on the album is now virtually assured, if still unofficial. This is of course fantastic news. David’s emergence as an artist of consequence will be bouyed immeasurably by the inclusion of his own songwriting on his first album.

Am I really the first comment? WooHoo! This is fantastic news about David’s writing, thanks for sharing it.
When I first heard Jive had set up songwriting sessions for David, I knew that was indication of the promise they’d recognized in his original work. (Kelly Clarkson had to do battle to get her own songs on her follow-up CD.)
I. Can’t. Wait.
Archuleta the Phenomenon will soon be unleashed upon an unwary public. It will be interesting to see the media write-ups on the album -- they will surely focus on David’s own penned song(s). It’s great to see that Jive is showcasing the breadth of David’s talent this early. It also probably indicates that the song has a LOT going for it if Jive is willing to do this on his debut, which is supposed to be the commercially “safe” album.
This is such good news! I’ve really been impressed so far on how Jive is enbracing David to be himself and to really focus on his artristy! Bravo! Bravo!
Ha! And I thought we were going to have a “dry spell” regarding news about David! WOOO-HOOO!! Make a wish…David grants the wish…uh-oh! Better not go there, lest some think that I buh-lieve he has “special powers” too! Even though I think he does…shhhh!
This is such awesome news..come on November!!
Rascal…That gallery show is KILLING me softly and slowly!!
That is great news! And good in terms of promo value. He co-wrote a song long time ago -- Don’t Tell Me -- which I think was a topic of discussion some threads back, I wonder if that is the one that made the cut? But if it is a fresh composition -- so much the better!
After his Ford performance, am dreaming of a stripped down version of Crush — like a candlelight piano version with some edge… that’ll be one cool number. Hah! am sure more hearts will flutter and knees weaken…
How many days to go till the album lands? Seems like an eternity!
I have never in my life anticipated an album from any artist, ever, the way I am counting down the days till David’s !!!! ooohhhh myy!!!
jackryan4DA — what do you mean, ‘how many days’ ? — Check the counter in the sidebar!
K, testing! Rascal, it’s been awhile. Just logging back in! Just for kicks, can’t wait for he album!
oh rascal, you think of everything! Thank you for the countdown!
rascal, love the countdown, love the gallery.
refnaf and jackryan4DA: I just have to say -- your avatars, those dreamy David pix, are really more than my heart can take.
Rascal, I havn’t yet commented on your new layout.. Thanks for making it easier on my older eyes to read. The Gallery Show is a great addition as well.
I really like the picture you chose, is it from one of the Ford commercials they did? Odd that David is holding the pen in his right hand.
I can’t believe that I am willing my life away, like silverfoxe, as I watch your counter. I am so looking forward to David’s album and to think that one of his own compositions may well be on it will be wonderful for David’s confidence!
Are we all ready in November for more Archumagic?
This is fantastic news! I am so pleased Jive and TPTB see the Brilliance of David. I am equally impressed with this young man who came into my life, changed it for the better, and BLOWS me away with that VOICE ! My excitement for November can hardly be contained!
I’m delighted to hear that David’s own writing will be on this first album. This is great news. I love that he is being treated as an artist.
Wherever, whenever that first tour show is, I’m flying out. I’m there!
I know Rascal — that’s why it seems like an eternity!
btw, the gallery show is driving me nuts -- in a good way of course!
I have never really considered myself to be a thinker, one who completely immerses themselves deep in thought. Raising four children, all I had time to think about was “what was I going to cook for dinner that night” or “what was next on my to-do list.” All of that changed drastically nine months ago. I now find I am totally immersed in the ozone of colored thought matter where all things David co-exist. Your writing style, as well as that of the fans here, is so thought provoking that I am often left with such incomprehensible wonderment as to the genius that is David Archuleta. Each day I hurry here to see what has been written that will trigger the next chapter in my thought process.
awestruck -- #11 -- LOL you guys crack me up. Only a die-hard Archie would notice that the pen is in the wrong hand! I love it. I’m sure they did it that way for the purposes of the camera angle. And yes, the pic is from one of the Ford commercials.
jackryan4DA -- Sheesh, I thought the little gallery was discreet enough not to scream “FAN BLOG!!!” but it’s causing palpitations anyway, huh? Well then, there’s only one thing to do… Add more pictures!!
I have to be the oddball who noticed the countdown but didn’t see the gallery show until so many others commented on it.
I love both.
And I’m thrilled at the news that at least one of David’s penned songs will be on the album. I’m going to trust the instincts of any 17 year old singer who can interpret “Imagine” and “Love Me Tender” and “Smoky Mountain Memories” the way I’ll always hear them in my head. Can not wait.
davidfanLIZ -- re my avatar: mission accomplished then
These 2 items had me ROTFL:
FG on Rickey’s:
I have a funny little story from Ford Day -- after the show during the autograph signing an employee kept coming over to David to tell him that he had 5 minutes left to which David replied “OK”. After about 3x (so 15 minutes went by) he approached David again and said, “Really David, seriously…” to which David said “OK.” So I motioned to the guy to come over to me, he seemed very surprised but came over to me. I told him very nicely that we are very poor listeners and that he had no idea who he was dealing with -- I told him that David will not leave us and that we would not leave either -- so he laughed and said “Oh -- ok thanks” and then he left the room!!!!! He gave up -- I LOVE IT!!!!! LOL!!!!!
A youtube poster that goes by the nic IM40OMG re one of David’s Crush video on Ford Day:
“Sometimes I wonder how he can even walk with those MASSIVE thighs. Sweet Lord, Creator of David Archuleta, THANK YOU. Now I know why you needed to rest on the 7th day.”
“He will not leave us and we won’t leave either.”
Yep. I’d say that about sums it all up.
rascal, please do (add more pictures to your gallery that is)! Also, I’m so psyched about the album now. This is very encouraging that Jive is willing to include one (possibly more) of David’s own songs and letting him do songwriting sessions. Wow! I’m at least glad to see his label (if not the rest of the media) willing to take him seriously as an artist.
TOfan, you are so right to remind us of how Kelly Clarkson had to battle for her own songs. This is a very big deal that 17-year-old David is getting full support on his debut album.
So many things to look forward to. Not only the album but that it comes to us a week after the general elections. Right on time (I imagine) to either sway our hurt or buoy our celebration. Didn’t I tell you David is coming to us when we most need him?
Does anyone want to play the “David album wish playlist” game with me?
My anticipation of the first six tracks (out of 15 tracks, not including bonus tracks, of course):
Track 1 -- open right off with an original song by David Archuleta
Track 2 -- Crush
Track 3 -- a nice, smooth R&B/soul-type track that shows off his vocals
Track 4 -- Angel (an absolute must since he now owns this song)
Track 5 -- a faster track, probably released as his second single (most likely the song that establishes him beyond Idol)
Track 6 -- a ballad (he absolutely needs a ballad! preferably love song)
(I would continue on through Track#15 but this could get tedious)
Bonus tracks (I can dream):
a bare-bones, acoustic version of “Crush”
an acoustic version of “Imagine” (because this needs to be included too!)
Did I say I can’t wait for the album? Rascal, great idea to do the countdown!
“Sometimes I wonder how he can even walk with those MASSIVE thighs. Sweet Lord, Creator of David Archuleta, THANK YOU. Now I know why you needed to rest on the 7th day.”
Oh dear. Sometimes there are not enough words!!!
Thanks for sharing that quote, jackryan4DA.
Full view of our “Angel.” Apparently even AI knew it back then. NOT an accident.
http://i521.photobucket.com/albums/w338/julee44_photos/Angelwing.png
archu_adorable -- #23 -- oh, yes, I remember the talk about this even then. Yeah, no accident there. Nothing on a set with an art director is random. The “Arch Angels” as the name for David’s fans was already well established by that point and that detail was almost certainly a nod to that.
OH MY GOSH!! Now the “THIGHS”!! Well uh..he does
fill out those jeans nicely, doesn’t he? Sometimes I cannot buh-lieve the things we say here! Forgive us, Brett, for we no not what we’re doing and saying half the time for love of David!!
I’m heading home now..I was totally worthless at work today!
Found this at Archuleta Fan Scene: — brace yourselves!
David Archuleta To Record Two Songs In Spanish.
22 09 2008
David Archuleta Fan Scene has just learned that David will be recording two songs in Spanish! It is still undetermined whether or not the Spanish language versions of “Angels” and “Crush” will be on his upcoming self-titled CD. Either way, both songs will be available for purchase as digital downloads. We hear David himself will be playing the piano track for the recording of “Angels!” There will be pictures on David’s MySpace blog of him in the studio recording “Angels” in the next few days.
hellogorgoeus -- a stripped down version of Crush is included in my wish list too!
davidfanLIZ… sorry to cause you heartache … haha
Yes, I had to argue that the angel wing was not an accident. Living with a very vocal theater major and mega-David fan left no doubt.
And silverfoxe, I believe that everyone knows EXACTLY what they are posting on here. Don’t try to abdicate responsibility for your words!
ha ha
Two great news in one: David’s album to include his writings, and David releasing 2 songs in Spanish!!!! Ahhhh!!
Too much. I am having an OhmygoshAshley moment.
Rascal: I had not noticed your countdown, because of your gallery. I think you may want to start warning people now about the possibility of getting hear palpitations while visiting your site.
Like DA would say: haha
OhmygoshJuanita!!! Two songs in Spanish!! Wait till I tell my girlfriends. There are tremors all over Latin America right now.
And I thought things were going to settle down a bit around here after the tour. Not.
Rascal, thank you so much for the gallery. It sustains me after I peek at the countdown.
Omigosh, Panamom, I’m having the same moment. Two songs in Spanish on top of all this other great news??? I need oxygen, stat!!
Hello gorgeous, love your selections. How ’bout adding something with a “With You” beat/feel? (Still love listening to that one.)
archu_adorable..What? Is somebody using my name AGAIN!?
It wasn’t me…My sis told me to DENY, DENY, DENY!!
TWO songs in Spanish?! It’s too much..jus’ too much!!
Is this a “for certain” or a “Maybe”?? And has anyone heard him sing in Spanish? There’s a video on you tube
of David singing “Contigo En La Distancia”..sublime!
Give it a listen, if you haven’t already.

kait 17 How is it that you picked out my three favorite songs??? and well said!
jackryan4DA & refnaf,
I was lurking over at FOD and I believe the term “smokin” was used and I think they were refering to such pics as the ones you’re using as your avatars. And kinda off topic: there is a movement afoot to submit David for one of the 100 most Beautiful People for People Magazine. Actually some have already e-mailed the editor some pics.
If David sings a straight up love ballad, I am going to need a WARNING LABEL ALERT for that. I am just letting everybody know up front now. This has already been one of the most exciting rollercoasters I’ve ever been on and a LOVE BALLAD would probably do me in for sure.
Warning labels on music? Hmmmmm. Well it would be a switch. Instead of warning of lyrics regarding sex, drugs, violence…
It would be a medical warning label. “Listen at your own risk. May cause Arch Angels (and most likely others) serious heart disease (palpitations) and asthma attacks (heavy breathing).” I guess we could add “bladder control problems” since I will probably be peeing my pants. LOL!
If David doesn’t make People’s Most Beautiful Issue the staff needs their heads examined. Wow, such exciting news about the Spanish songs!
TOfan#31, I once read somewhere that Jeff told a fan that he’s got a Chris Brown-like song included in the line-up (we can only hope).
As for the following:
TWO SONGS IN ESPANOL?!!
*Thud.*
Wake me up when it’s November 11!
juliebug-
ROFL , but ain’t that the cha..ruth
Stocks being as low as they are right now, I’m calling my broker. Need to pick up some stock in pacemakers, inhalers, Depends and Chapstick. Now is the time to jump in the market!
jackryan4DA, #19
About your post with the employee telling David “5 minutes”. Well, on MJ’s blog they said David left when Jeff came over and told David -- “its time to go”.
From this, I’m assuming that the employee went to find Jeff to tell him, “I can’t get David to leave, you have to make him”.
Rascal,
Your site gets better by the day … countdown…gallery…comments by the faithful…your writing.
thanks for this great news about David’s writing !
I’m remembering when I first noticed David … singing Waiting for the World to Change at that audition when Randy sang with him.
Well … the world is about to change bigtime in only 48 days,
when we hear David sing his own thoughts in a song he has written …thank you, Jive, thank you Rascal, thank you all you folks who write here daily and keep me company.
ronaldsf # 2… I agree and I’m delighted that Jive is fully aware of what they’ve got in David. It’s what we all hoped for and they are backing him & promoting him in a grand way right out of the gate. David is an extremely intelligent young man and they can see that. David thinks songwriting is “fun”, his Dad says he is a phenomenal songwriter and I don’t think he would just say that if he didn’t really believe it. Jive would put one of David’s songs on the album because they KNOW his fans WANT it as well.
This is going to come at the perfect time as I am going on vacation two weeks after the release so I will have NEW David songs to listen to!!!! How cool!!
Silverfoxe…just take a deep breath and say “its all good, its all good…
TOfan… With You is my favorite performance after Shop Around. David was just so much fun to watch. So Joyful you just got to smile. It would be great if they have a song with that kind of vibe to it.
# 13 davidfanLIZ… I’m “with you”. Wherever it is, I will be flying out to see it.
As many times as I watched that Ford ad I never saw the angel wing. Thanks Archu_Adorable # 23. My mouth dropped open.
Most Beautiful People!! How exciting. Talk about putting him in the public eye!
Okay, another new thing David made me do!!! My first real listen to a song in Spanish. I just downloaded “Contigo en la Distancia” and no surprise, it’s beautiful! I better go get a translation (or spanish lessons)
Wow, there’s a party going on in here! So much archuexciting news! And I thought it was going to be a slow day in Archuletaworld!
I love the countdown, but it just seems like such a long time to wait. (stamping feet) I want new songs NOW!
Did you all get the text message from David (yes, I signed up!) Love calling and hearing his voice on my phone…
Just a thought: David’s album will include a ‘message’ song or songs but could be in any of the genres HG suggested in #21. I wonder . . .
Well this is VERY exciting news. Apparently David has a few things rolling around in his head that he’d like to share with us.
Go ahead David, talk to us, we’re listening.
Trust me, we’ll be hanging on your every word.
Momofteens -- Alright Violet Beauregarde….calm down. Nov. 11 will get here sooner than you think. LOL! Half the fun is that anticipation and speculation.
I’m thrilled with all of today’s news … especially the probability of hearing a song (or songs) straight from David’s own heart/mind. I’m just fascinated by the thought. I am also curious about the “songwriting sessions” that have been mentioned so many times. What I’d really like is to be a fly on the wall or plant a hidden camera in the room during one of these sessions. Since both are unlikely, can any of you enlighten me? Which usually comes first -- music or lyrics? I realize the process must differ from artist to artist; so how do you think it goes for our David? Does he show up with an idea, the beginnings of a lyric, a music ditty in his head? Do he and the other songwriters sit around the piano or what???
BTW, Rascal -- I love the additions to your site! It’s my first stop in the morning & last stop at night.
Hey, did anyone notice that this terrific Ford commercial screenshot shows David writing with the wrong hand? We all know he’s another one of those genius lefties--I wonder why they made him use his right hand?
Deb…David seems to have music in his brain all the time.. He seems to always be thinking in musica terms..ie..in Evansville, as people talked to him, he actually put melody to some of their comments. When he came up to us, a fan asked for a hug and he started singing UNDER his breath it seemed without thinking, “give me a hug, da da da “, or something like that. My sis told him “I would love too!” He laughed and said “oh, I was just singing, hahaha” My sis says,” I know!”…It was sooo funny! He seems to always be singing, even when he’s talking! It’s almost like he’s finding lyrics all around him and puts them to the music in his head! He’s a musical genius! There’s no other explanation! Extraordinary!
Thanks for the story; I would love to witness that in person, silverfoxe. Could he be any more adorable?! I would also love to see the evolution of one of David’s songs from start to finish … from that little something rolling around in that gorgeous head all the way to a full-blown studio recording. Maybe he’ll allow someone to videotape his “process” someday … we can hope, right?
BTW, I LOVE all your posts. You always make me smile.
Ok, I’m done being two…lol. Seriously though, as much as the speculating is entertaining, I really am impatient to hear his voice on new material. His voice is in etched my head… I really can’t listen to any song he’s covered and many others that he hasn’t covered yet, without longing to hear his rich vocals instead of the original artist. I’ve admired other singers before, but this addiction I’ve developed is just OTT!
Refnaf, I can’t believe you didn’t have “Contigo en la Distancia” on your davidPod (you have the best collection I know!).
Joner: Thanks for the stock tips! rotfl (And hi Debra 5354 and Deb, I’m a Deb, too!)
Silverfoxe: “Finding lyrics all around him” — LOVE that.
Deb,
I think David said in a recent radio interview that it’s “all of the above”. Sometimes the lyrics come to him first, sometimes the melody. But, he said it’s easier for him if they come at the same time. I imagine when that happens he just has to tweak it. I’m in awe…. par for the course, it seems.
Deb #48, I remember either reading or hearing David say that the music and lyrics come to him at the same time (versus one before the other).
I am reminded of one of the last scenes of the movie “Amadeus” in which the audience ‘hears’ what Amadeus hears in his mind as he dictates the music to Saleiri (who is frantically writing the musical notation for him.)
I view it as translating the ‘music of the spheres’ for the rest of us to hear. I think the really tricky part for any artist is for them to be satisfied with the end result -- which, of necessity, can only approximate what they hear in their heart.
Sorry juliebug, we were writing at the same time. I’m not trying to contradict what you said. I was typing as you submitted.
Kindred -- I finally found it…and then came back and saw your message. Ships that pass in the night….. ha ha
It’s at 4:10 of the Radio Disney interview here…
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6LVw9TITn2s
Thanks, kindred & julie. I just listened to the Radio Disney clip again. I could listen to David talk about music forever. I actually burned a CD of a bunch of his interviews just so I can listen to him talk when I’m in the car.
kindred -- what beautiful words “… translating the ‘music of the spheres’ for the rest of us to hear. I think the really tricky part for any artist is for them to be satisfied with the end result -- which, of necessity, can only approximate what they hear in their heart.”
We’ve been so privileged to hear David translate other people’s words through his interpretations of great songs. I can’t wait to hear what David hears in his heart.
Good night, all.
OK, I’m digging the idea of a version of “Angels” en espagnol. I don’t know who’s singing it in this video, but I can imagine David conquering the Spanish-speaking world with his incomparable version:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L_vwrYX5N84
And imagine how wonderful it would be for David’s grandparents -- who don’t speak English -- to hear their wonderful grandchild singing in their native tongue. I wouldn’t put it past David to be doing it for that very reason.
Caseydog, you’re so right. That’s probably exactly why he’s doing it. Just listened to that version and tried to dub in David’s voice in my head. All I can say is “si, si, si”! (That’s it for my Spanish, lol.)
A better link: Robbie Williams singing it in Spanish:

There doesn’t exist such a moment
as one moment that Iiii’m not with you
and everything seems very different
wheeeen I’m not heeeere with youuuuu…
There’s no beautiful music
that doesn’t speak of youuu
And I don’t want to hear it
if you don’t hear it tooooo
Theee thing is you’ve becooome
paaart of my very souuul
And I am here, so helpless
beeecause I am aloooone
far beyond your sweet lips
beyond the stars in heaven
With you, despite the distance,
my true beloved,
I aaaaaaam.
David recorded this at age 12 or so, and he changed the lyrics a little to make it a song of longing by a young boy for his absent mother.
—--
Let me take this opportunity to thank those who commented on my post of the 12th last. I especially enjoyed highervibe’s referencing Fragonard.
Okay Guys,
Enough! David NEEDS TO STOP BEING SO DARN TALENTED ALREADY! I really don’t know if I can stand it anymore?
He sings (a given), plays two, possibly 3 instruments -- piano, guitar, trumpet?, he composes, he can dance well, we recently found out he CAN act (Crush Video) he’s an athlete -- distance runner /gymnast (handstands). He has GREAT LOOKS -- can possibly model or endorse products -- Chapstick, Dasani / Perfect water, Converse etc.. He’s bilingual, funny, charming, compassionate to others (family, fans). Who knew all those months ago that under the guise of a sweet, giggly teenager lay the soul of a media mogul -- conglomerate in the works? DCook has his work cut out for him trying to keep up with DJA. If he zigs in one direction, DJ zags in the other. In one of his interviews he said not to “pigeon-hole” him. Ain’t that the truth? Everytime you think you have him figured out -- he pulls another rabbit out of the hat! BTW did I leave anything off the list…… LOL!
Joymus: you forgot he is also an A student!!, humble, and grateful,
I can’t remember where I came across this video, but it is one that makes me cry every time I listen to it. It is Celine Dion singing “This Time”. It shows the behind the scenes actions of her recording it, the story behind the song etc… She expresses such emotion!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QvLkhYLN1Fo
I can see David doing the same with a similar kind of message song, maybe one that he composes himself?
Joymus -- “A riddle wrapped in a mystery inside an enigma.” And if he’s smart, and wants longevity and all his fans talking about him and trying to figure him out, keeping us breathless with anticipation of the next surprise, for say, oh, the next 50 years or so….he’ll stay that way. LOL!
realmusiclover, thanks so much for the translation !!! It’s so beautiful… thanks for the background info as well. and I love your name!
TOfan, I don’t know why but this was the only song not on my Davidpod, silly me.
Omigosh, all the posts. You guys…. just slay me
It’s ALL the things I think about David.
Thanks for putting it into words for me.
SIGH…. he’s wonderful!!!!!
Davidpod? ROFL
Someone call Steve Jobs. He could double Apple’s profits if he got onboard with that. LOL! Microsoft would then sue. tee hee….
Hello everyone!!! My name is Randy and I am a lurker, After long hours of expensive therapy, I was finally diagnosed as having ODD. I was told there is no cure, and the only way that I can live with it Blissfully is by accepting that I have ODD, and joining a blog site such as this one -- NotingDavid.org.
If it’s okay with everyone…I would like to be a member of this wonderful blog site.
RandySD, accepting the truth is the first step. You are among friends.
I have also been a lurker here and wanted to say hi too. It boggles the mind the pull David has on all of us. I don’t know why I spend so much time reading your comments but it sure is entertaining (especially silverfoxe and a few others). The level of excitement and joy David bounces back to us is unreal. He’s like a mirror of all our hopes, dreams, and ambitions.
realmusiclover!! You’re back! And you’re welcome. If Fragonard was alive, he would surely be painting David! But alas, he is not… so we need more of your painterly words! My comment was cut short by the shock of seeing rascal’s incredibly beautiful new cyber home for us David addicts! Yes! Yes! to David’s “…ability to connect with a visceral human need for meaning and connectedness with the metaphysical…” Indeed! ! (or as HG would say, “can I get a witness?” ! !) Acknowledged or not, I do think that is the crux of the attraction.
jackryan -- #18 on “Oh -- ok thanks” and then he left the room!!!!!” OMG, explosive laughter!!!—I hope the neighbors don’t send the white van for me, I must sound like lunatic! Oh THAT was a good one!! (who was that masked poster? they need to join us here!)
And as long as we’re having so much fun here tonight (OK, I am--lots of laughs--thanks all!) I’ll add this. I was curious about the meaning of a slang word and found a site called urbandictionary, where they add new terms everyday… recently added is “liptease” (“The act of putting on lipstick suggestively”) haha! They’ve got the definition *slightly* off… shouldn’t that be “Chaptease”?! Then they have “Song Binging” (“To binge on a song or artist.”) Oh yeah, we’ve got that going on, but that word is just SO last week… don’t they know the term is “Crushing” now?!?!! (pshaw! contemporary slang… not!)
Jackryan4DA & Awestruck -- Just like they did with Celine Dion -- wouldn’t it be fabulous if they include on David’s Myspace or UTube channel footage of him recording and expressing just why be loves to perform “Angels” so much. I have some thoughts on why he loves this song but I’ll share my discourse later -- getting ready for work.
acnewjersey Amen!! David has not only brought the magic of music back into our lives but he has expanded our love for articulate expressive writing which also feeds our soul. Thank you Rascal!!! I love all the avatars, the gallery and that countdown is inspired.
Because of his “beloved awkwardness” too many people write off David’s intelligence. He can only sing so soulfully because he is a deep feeling and thinking young man. I have seen his deep concern for peace. His favorite singers not only sing beautifully but say something. Some could say how can he have anything to say-he’s too young and hasn’t experienced life enough. I want us to remember the passion and idealism we felt when we were young. We need to hear from the young.
Our generation had its voice (remember the 60′s). In my experience at a university I have been discouraged by their oh well attitude-checking the cell phone is more important than binge drinking or campus rape. But then I am blown away by the painted shirt display for all the women killed in Juarez, the new crisis hotline manned by students, an escort program for late night campus users, charity days where students do good deeds to give back to the community, and graffiti patrols to keep the town beautiful. This generation does want to make a difference. David is one of their best and we need young impassioned voices to remind us of our ideals. Ralph Waldo Emerson said:
So nigh to grandeur is our dust
So near is God to man.
When Duty whispers low, Thou must
The youth replies, I can!
Go David. We are listening and want to hear what you have to tell us because you do it so beautifully.
Good morning, everyone! And welcome lurkers! I wake up this morning to find 75 comments. We have been busy all night, haven’t we?
Anyway, no new dreams of David but new thoughts of course. And one that I’ve been contemplating is David’s musical joy. I can’t believe it’s been forever since we’ve seen a music artist emerge on the scene who seems so overjoyed just performing. And that he’s doing it, not to become famous or popular or rich or to get a massive supply of “chicks.” He’s just doing it because it gives him so much pleasure.
It’s what silverfoxe said: “It’s almost like he’s finding lyrics all around him and puts them to the music in his head!”
So, imagine someone who finds a reason to sing, just cause he’s alive, and then that someone is given unlimited access to recording studios and collaborators and a record deal from a major label. He simply will not disappoint! He will create out of joy and will give to us out of joy.
It’s been a great pleasure to find others here who can appreciate and share in that joy. Although I do think it’s a pity for those who can’t open up their hearts to experience that joy. David has made the heart connection already. It’s up to us to experience it.
And, let me tell ya: you’ve got to be really resistant to let David’s music not touch you. You have to be a bit vulnerable to really surrender, and how many of us can let ourselves go?
David shows us that vulnerability from time to time, and I for one am grateful that, at such a young age, he isn’t afraid to really surrender himself to the music … and to us.
Randy SD and bakyspritz -- You realize you now have to take the 12-step program to join? First step (as noted by davidfanLIZ is accepting your ODD. (SHH, I am frantically thinking of what step 2 is!)
Just kidding! I love to see our e-family grow!
I hope rascal doesn’t mind how often I visit his “home” throughout the day:) I can’t stay away! I definitely have a very serious case of ODD.
I love reading what you all have to say – you so eloquently express exactly what I am feeling. Thank you!
Unfortunately, the music had gone out of my life (in so many ways) and discovering David and this site brought some light back into my life.
Today I have to stay away for at least a little while – I must focus on business if I am going to be able to afford to meet all of you at David’s solo concert! What fun that would be!!!
See you all later… Oh, who I am kidding – I’ll be checking back in no time to be sure I haven’t missed any new posts
#77 hello gorgeous, Sorry to hear that there are no new dreams. Keep us informed. And yes, it is all about the JOY! It was his joyfulness that grabbed my heart when I first heard him sing. A seemingly endless supply of joy spills out of him when he sings, when he talks about music, when he interacts with fans. We are the happy recipients of this bounty.
Rascal,
Would you be able to tell me who I can e-mail or where to go to get mp3 downloads for all of Davids old music from when he was 9-14?
I would love to have them all on my IPOD. I tried downloading the music from the Ford Center, but once I get them into my library I am unable to transfer them to my IPOD. I not quite sure if the format is bad or what. HELP please.
Thank you
I’m sooo proud of him. Can’t wait to hear his album. And I love that picture of him. He was perfect for that role.
#76: “Because of his “beloved awkwardness” too many people write off David’s intelligence.”
Yep, I agree. And I don’t understand how some people can’t see/feel that he’s really smart. Really intelligent. But I guess they should try and listen to what he says to understand that.
#79 (Archiesfan4life)…quote: “Unfortunately, the music had gone out of my life (in so many ways) and discovering David and this site brought some light back into my life”.
David told me in the very beginning (in our home) that if he could do exactly what you just mentioned…bring back some light into someone’s life…then he’ll keep singing!!! He said; “that’s what it’s all about”…thank you for sharing that with us! I’ll definately share this with him!!!
#68 refnaf: Happy to provide this translation of Contigo En La Distancia. I was so touched when I first heard the song sung by David. His version is much different than what others have done with it because his is so very innocently heartfelt in its presentation. It sounds so genuine as a poignant lament of a boy who misses his mother terribly. David succeeds, even as a preteen singer, to elicit all of the feelings that such a child suffers when the touchstone of his young existence is no longer near him. It is a bravura performance…….and since it is David singing, we should not expect anything less than that.
Regarding my ID: By choosing it I tried to express the idea that what David sings is REAL music. I have been so under-whelmed for many years by what has been selling as popular music. Having a deep appreciation for classical music has made listening to modern pop/rock, except in a few, rare instances, almost unendurable. David’s emergence has been a boon for me, to at last hear someone who truly sings with his heart (Because the Heart Knows!), so different from the pap that pseudo-sophisticates and their greedy, uncaring promoters have been able to market in this barbarous age. It is not for nothing that the ancients regarded music as innately religious in origin and intent, akin to the “music of the spheres” idea which another poster recently wrote of (forgive me, I don’t remember who).
#74 highervibe: Thank you for your kind comments. I love the rococo style for its outrageous exuberance, and its insistence on doing everything with a flair. Boucher is a favorite: his nudes are so erotic! And Watteau’s melancholia: Wow!
I definitely agree with you as to the crux of David’s attraction. And this crux is precisely what the rockers who hate him cannot abide because nothing they can do, no matter how high the decibels, can ever achieve what one, singularly gifted lad can do without even trying hard: his connection with our deepest, most inner needs; his ability to reveal our souls to our selves, whether we acknowledge having one or not. That is his genius and his glory. Bodhidharma said, “All know the Way, but few actually walk it.” David seems to have been born on the Way.
His is a magical, mysterious gift without a doubt. It manifested itself at age six. “Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings hast thou ordained strength” says Psalm 8: 1-2 (KJV), and who can doubt that David possesses immense power, the power to move millions. Whence does it derive? True believers will say that its origins are heavenly. Agnostics like me say, “Perhaps.” Though its origins are veiled, its effects are obvious. Obvious to me as I type these thoughts for no other reason than to acknowledge his wondrous gift.
DavidfanLiz and Awestruck, I believe I have taken that first step. I have accepted and embraced my ODD. Just for the record, I have never denied it…Never, Never, Never!
) Thanks for the welcome!
By the way how about this song in Spanish version?

JLo recorded this song in Spanish, but I can’t find the video.
BEYOND amazing news. I can’t wait!…Though, I must. Haha.
