No, I’m not talking about thighs. It seems that Crush is trying to be a bigger hit than Jive wants it to be — at least at this point in time. I don’t claim to know all the mechanics of it, even chart-heads (David is one of them, as doubtless most of you know) can sometimes appear confused about how all this stuff is calculated and what the real situation is behind the numbers, but all indications are that Crush is taking on a life of its own, and faster than perhaps Jive wants it to, given that the album doesn’t drop until November.
So, despite the fact that airplay and spins appear to be increasing organically in many medium and smaller markets, and both Billboard and Radio & Records have now tagged Crush with “Hit Predictor” designations, the largest and most influential markets like Boston and New York have suddenly decreased plays. The theory now being advanced by observers familiar with pop music marketing is that Jive may well have requested a pull-back in order to time the peak to be closer to the album release.

Yeah some of us are going by the theory of ‘The Plan’(tm). lol Whether there is an actual plan or not, who knows… But it seems to make some sense, especially with the bigger markets pulling back all of a sudden.
Like the mentioned Boston. Which when they added Crush, they went from not playing it straight to heavy rotation. Then they all of a sudden cut back. Id rather think that was Jive’s doing.
I think the song kinda took off more than Jive was expecting it to.

OK experts -- this chart says “Let’s check out the new chart action for the week of August 25th, 2008″ Has this just been posted or do they go back in time to compare to current ratings/status.
What does the “score” number reflect? I notice that David’s number is the second highest amongst those listed.
Oh, and what if the peak ends up being a long run at the top?
One more, if the album is ready sooner than the release date would they move that date up?
Hey Silverfoxe David is the American Idol in our hears for sure… even though I am a Canadian!. Actually the Canadian Idol this year is someone I like a lot too. Piano playing, operatically trained “pop”singer, Theo Tams.
Plot or no plot, platinum or not, forget what the charts say, didn’t somebody quoted this yesterday: ‘David will not leave us and … we would not leave either’

As far as American Idol status, I like calling him a World Idol instead.

I enjoyed seeing somewhere( I visit a number of sites) where Crush was played at a high school dance and they were all so excited. It’s a good solid catchy tune that connects with everyone. The fact that it is sung by David puts it over the top. I am looking forward to the Spanish singles-I want them part of my music library also.
OK Rascal, how about making it larger with a double click?
I second Awestruck’s request to make the gallery larger. Would it also be possible to scroll down the comments section while the left section stays put? This way we could continue to enjoy the photos while reading the comments. As for David being a world idol, Crush was played on a very popular Sunday show on the biggest tv network here in Brazil -- this network reaches 99.9% of every home in the country. It was just a sample, but if they decide to use it in a soap opera soundtrack, it’s a hit.

What I think is really funny -- All the rest of the “Hottest Hunks Under 25″ have maybe 1 or 2 comments under their name reveling in their “cuteness.” David has over 20 (LOL). By the way -- why is David C included in this list? I thought it was a list of guys “under 25.”
Awestruck #6 -- I really did like Theo Tams as well. Then I heard his rendition of The Long and Winding Road, Heaven and a few solo lines of Imagine, (which he did in a group song). After that… I don’t know. He needs to stay away from anything David sings or covers. It just isn’t the same -- I find it too hard not to compare them. Unfortunately, anything that David does then becomes his own and I can’t enjoy anyone else singing those songs. Like everyone else here, David has spoiled me -- no other singer comes close!
Definitely the AI winner! I noticed this--as of last night--am I reading it right? DJA’s myspace profile views: 5,804,009. Cook’s: 1,437,720. I kept going back and looking at the numbers again… but not four-and-a-half million times!!! My eyes are bugging!
Hey Rascal, I always love what you bring to the table! This really does make one think, and perhaps believe, that David Archuleta may actually get what he deserves for his talent and hard work by the end of the year. All the chart stuff is so fascinating.
I would LOVE it if David Archuleta was a force too great to ‘manage!’ There are are a lot of us feeling like David isn’t getting enough respect from the mainstream, so it is our dream that David will succeed in spite of them!!!

Silverfoxe -- I know it’s silly but that stuff just irks me…Can’t David have anything just for himself without DC being included….even if it’s just for being under 25 years old?….Look, I’m the first one to admit that DC is a talented, smart and all around nice guy, but it’s time to break the cord!! ninaf….no worries! I buh-lieve the cord has been broken!! They will always be friends and have the upmost respect for each other, but yes it was about time they “broke up” and went their seperate ways. Yeah, they were funny & “good” together, but I, for one was not unhappy to see the “split”. Cook needs to get on with his life now! Ha ha!

Yes, the media has to move on from the comparison between the two and all the AI nonsense, although I think this coming week is going to be trouble with DC’s new single breaking out.
The media seems to perpetuate this by viewing it as an ongoing “contest,” and even I sometimes have let myself fall into this trap. If not for this perception, I think I would have a much easier time embracing Cook on his own merits rather than David’s competition. As silly as this seems, sometimes I feel when listening to Cook, or God forbid, “enjoying Cook’s music,” I’m “cheating” on David. I wouldn’t be surprised if they’re a lot of die-hard Cook fans who feel the same way regarding “their David.”
ninaf,.. No, do not feel bad if you like or enjoy Cook’s music, cause obviously David thinks Cook is awesome. I happen to think Cook has a great voice for a “rocker”. I like 3 of his AI songs and are on my ipod. I don’t feel I’m “cheating” on David cause I listen to other singers. David happens to be my all time favorite..fa-everrrr!
My gosh..sometimes I wonder if all the teens & tweens out there know what they are witnessing? Do they just see David as a heartthrob who happens to look fabulous and sings great or do they get that an artist like David is
a once in a lifetime dream come true. That they most likely will never again see another like David? That’s what I wonder when I see all the contests like “best smile”, “hottest”, etc…he’s all that, but he is so much more! Do they see it?
OK, now there I go getting too deep for myself! I’m really missing “seeing” David on a daily basis. SOB!
Silverfoxe -- my grandaughters ages 10 & 12 see a very gorgeous young man close to their age who can sing but the “cuteness” is definitely number one with them. But as this is their 1st teen heart throb I can only wait and see if they eventually realize David is a “once in a lifetime dream come true”--truly they don’t have any basis for comparison because of their young age--however, if their gene pool is strong, they will get what Granny gets-lol.
Silverfoxe -- I feel your “daily David” loss. I miss it too. I’m just dying to get some details on his whole writing/recording experience.
Months ago I joked about becoming “human fly” so I could hang around recording studios and keep my eye on our little prodigy’s activities.
Can’t you just visualize David with his “Diva Hand” swatting away and thinking, “what is WITH this thing?”
Silverfoxe -- I’m sure the majority of teens/tweens see David as a gorgeous guy who also is a great singer/performer. If I was that age…who knows, it would be hard to get passed the looks.
When I was an older teenager and through my college years, I did obsess about a lot of sort of folk rocker, “Woodstock” type music…I’m sure you know what I mean, (boy I’m really aging myself). Through those years, I couldn’t get enough of it and I had 1 or 2 bands and singers that were my favorites. However, when I graduated college, and got into the real world, it was the time that disco hit. For me, that was a really uninteresting time in contemporary music and I felt that none of the “new” music was very good. Discovering David and that “voice” really opened up the world of music for me again. I’m actually listening to a lot of artists that I never would have known about. I wonder if David knows the extent of what he’s given to the world?
Kizzi…I guess that was a silly question…how can the little girls possibly know?? I was a tween & teen when Elvis came on the scene and all I saw was probably the same thing these little girls see in David ( without the swivelling hips! even though I buh-lieve David has some smooth swivelly hip moves too! ). I do recall that all the grownups thought Elvis was going to be the ruin of every hot blooded female who layed eyes on him! ha ha! And as much as I loved Elvis…David is the WHOLE package..so to me there is no comparison.

silverfoxe -- I am sooo happy the girls get David’s “cuteness.” My one grandaughter who is 12 is very bright and declared herself a vegetarian at age 8--she is quite, artistic, gentle, kind--when we were at the Tampa concert she stood on her chair and yelled over and over “I love you David” and her high pitch screaming had people covering their ears—this was a surpirse to all of us as we have never seen anything but a sweet, demure child before--so I witnessed a tween’s reaction to seeing David in concert.
My other grandaughter, age 10, whose whole family are AI groupies had another AI contestant as her fav. At the Tampa concert she too stood on her chair yelling “I love you David” over and over and had that high pitched scream going on every time his name was mentioned, Guitar hero or the 70′s vid came on with him in it. She converted very quickly to a David Archuleta fan when at the Tampa concert; her prior favorite was completely forgotten. They both now are searching J-14 and comment on Myspace and call his 800 number and on and on. Whenever I need a David fix, I just call them and we discuss him--their perspective is precious and so innocent.
Ain’t being a David Archuleta fan grand!
Kizzi..sure is grand…but we got spoiled with this wonderful cyberspace, internet technology allowing us to have play-by-plays and instant news about everything and anything “David”!!

Silverfoxe #34, I think the moment a lot of the teens and tweens will “get” that David is an artist is when he has a self-penned song that has “art” written all over it -- if that’s a soaring melody, piano playing, creative lyrics, or a strong, relevant message to it.
(Or all four! *gasp*)
Not only will he win the loyalty of the tweens for LIFE, but also rein in some of the “too-cool” twentysomethings.

Rascal…I don’t understand why Jive would want to pull the song back. I say, hit it while it’s hot!! The more hype that is created and the better the song does…the more people who will know him and the better his album will do. That’s just the way I see it. If it’s not played much then other people will think…”well that song was not good cause it’s not being played on the radio.” What’s up the Jive? I’m sorry, but they are CRAZYYYY!!!

Kizzi, I’m not a screamer either-rather dignified and ladylike. Actually a medical condition makes it impossible for me to scream (carry a whistle on my key chain) but when I am watching this young man perform believe me I am screaming on the inside. How wonderful that you can share David love with your grandaughters!

Crush plays daily at noon in Providence, like clockwork. 3 for noon countdown is what they call it. It plays a few more times during the day near the top of the hour. I also hear it on Boston KISS 108, but not as reliably. Can’t keep the Archulator down!
#6 I have Theo Tams ” Collide” on my Zune. He is crazy talented. He was the winner from day 1. I followed Canadian Idol via You Tube. HI did seem to copy song selections from David. His Appologize was, shall we say “different” ?

Hey Abrra, I think Theo Tams is talented, but I have to agree with ninaf #25 that I found it a little disconcerting when I heard him sing all those songs that David had. I will have a look at Theo’s album when it comes out to see what songs are on it. Hopefully some of his own compositions.
There is a wonderful comparison of David and Elvis on Fans of David site everyone might like to check out. I have listened to Love Me Tender so often that if is was a record it would be worn out. In the back of my mind I have had this Elvis thought for quite some time, but his life became a real mess and I certainly want more than that for David. But David has something Elvis did not. He has family to keep him grounded and a strong will and principles that we so admire.
