Yeah, This’ll Work.
I ask you: Have you ever seen a more contented picture of David Archuleta? It warms my heart.
Thanks to Sheebee via Jesse.

Thanks to Sheebee via Jesse.
Thanks to tamster1328 for this video!

today has been so, so much fun for me to just sit back and enjoy all the comments! FUN, FUN, FUN! Eveyone is just loving David! you all are really showing your “freak” side!! hahaha! I love it!
Wow Rascal! That was pretty Dang quick! He really did seem contented, ooh and I just noticed my cd is on the table behind him. I told him what was on it but he didn’t take it out of the bag then. He just sang a couple lines of ‘Shake It’ when I said that was the one random song in the otherwise all Sara B-a-rrei-les (live) and J. Mraz (live) mix. Weird looking at that picture and knowing I was right there! Man so awesome. I wanna go again!!
Nice! Don’t you just love that “I’m in the zone” smile?
Awww, such a lovely photo!
Today in class a student mentioned being at the concert last night and seeing a red hatchback drive back, all the windows down and blasting “Crush.” She said that they started dancing and then saw the car come around the block again.
That car was mine, and I was inside it, with the goofiest grin on my face thinking, “You only live once!”
I love how comfortable and relaxed he looks, and as always, so JOYFUL.
Hey – here’s a bit of trivia: I recognize the tee-shirt. Two girls standing next to me (and silverfoxe) at the barricades in Lexington made that shirt for him. They used bleach to make the design. I remember that David said it looked really professional. Cool!
Rascal, thanks for the photos! And once again, JesseQ, thanks for sharing your story.
I love that picture. Apparently, “Dreamin’ Sky High” works.
OMG, what a beautiful picture of David ~ sooo relaxed! And the perfect name for him is right on his t-shirt ~ DREAM! Such a gorgeous one at that!
Joyful…Joyful
Nuf said.
Ahhhh, a most joyful sight for me sore eyes!
Ya…I just performed in front of 10,000 people.
Just chilling. No problem.
Does anyone know what the wrist bands say that he is always wearing?
omg Freo, your story is the bomb! I would NOT be able to keep a straight face on that one.
Jesse, how much do I adore this pic? it’s priceless.
well, you guys I am just beyond myself right now. I know you’ve heard this so many times by now, so pls. bear with me. I am absolutely ecstatic right now; I feel like a kid on Xmas morning, and haven’t felt this way since I found out that Friday afternoon on Aug. 8th that I would be meeting David later that night. OMG, my husband and I were driving through Hartford just now flicking around on the radio and I heard “Crush” for the first time. HOLY COW, isn’t it just beyond description? and the gal DJ was promoting it big time when the song was over. She was going on and on about how she really wasn’t a big DA fan during the AI season, but how she just loves this song, how it really gets into your head, how much she loves his voice. Also, she had said that she was a huge DC fan, but now is into DA. see??? another DA convert!!!! yeah!!!!!!!!!!!! ok, then my husband switches to another station and who do you think is on THAT STATION??? the one and only David Archuleta!!!!! I COULD NOT BELIEVE IT! I’ve been waiting and waiting to hear Crush for days now on any CT station and finally it happened. These were FM stations, not Satellite.
OH MY – our baby is really a big star now. I guess it just really hits you when you hear him singing on your car radio, seeing his name scrolled across your radio band like that. ok, my blood pressure must be 1,000 now after that…………going to go breathe now.
WOW, how EXCITING, Chickee! Maybe there’s still HOPE for Orlando!
WOW, how EXCITING, Chickee! Maybe there’s still HOPE for Orlando!
Oops! Sorry for the duplicate ~ must have been too excited and hit the Send button twice!
not to worry Heart, Orlando WILL be next!!! I’m willing it to happen for you!! thanks for sharing in my joy!!
#10 Joner, you made me lol!!! “Ya…I just performed in front of 10,000 people. Just chilling. No problem.” That’s our sweet guy, cool under pressure. It gives me such satisfaction and joy that he is having such a good time!!!
Contented…Not a bad place to be, eh? I couldn’t be happier for him.
Chickee, I sure hope you’re right! I’m at my wit’s end! I just went to check the play list again, just to be sure they hadn’t added David since my last peek a couple hours ago ~ no change. *sigh*
But at least David is at the bottom of the page, “on demand” ~ and I keep playing Crush that way. I sure would appreciate if some of you would click on David’s link for me and request Crush. Maybe that would convince them that there’s more than one person in Orlando that loves this song! Thanks so much, and David thanks you too, I’m sure!

Awesome rascal! Two posts and new pictures all at once! Thank you, thank you, thank you.
Everyone’s seen the video of David finding out from a fan how much his group has raised for Stand Up 2 Cancer, right? If not, check it out on fansofdavid.com. It’s so wonderful to see his reaction and see him acknowledge that raising money for a great cause is “what’s so special about all this” — meaning the fame he now has. It goes hand in hand with rascal’s previous post about how the fans are as much a part of this as he is. So generous in every, David. I just love him and want to make every good thing happen for him (and forget most of the time that it’s not really in my power to do so).
First time posting–long time reader and lurker. This site feeds my ODD like no other. So intelligent, insightful and hilarious! I’ve been a fan of this blog since the beginning, but never gave myself the time to post. David had me at the COMMERCIALS for AI back in January…what a journey! Again, another STUNNING photo. David leaves me breathless I am reduced to a puddle everytime I hear him sing, see or hear an interview or just chatting or looking at all the unbelievable photos takenalong his journey…what a priceless gift he is!! I fall into the “mom” category, running a busy household, husband, three kids and a dog. We’re in New York–our family and two other famili es saw the AI concert at Nassau Cioliseum. That was the venue where David first heard a crowd of fans singing Crush for the first time while signing autographs! What a feeling for him! #1 silverfoxe…on a previous post you mentioned David visiting the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame. Awesome suggestioin but time could be a problem. I’m sur we’ll hear about it if he gets to visit! Sorry for all the typos…it’s late ! Good night …till next time! P>S> David, please stay healthy..!
Over-the-top warning: I’m feeling the love tonight. Rascal, can I just say that the world is a better place with you in it? Thanks for all that you do. Next Thursday is David day!!!! Ohmigosh, I can’t wait.
Yes Rascal, it warms my heart too to see David coming out of his shell, less inhibited and very relaxed and contented. He is certainly showing more confidence and in control.
chickee, I am so happy for you! And on two different stations, back to back, that is just so crazy exciting! So ok, you HAVE to will it to happen for me too over here in San Francisco, please!
rascal, that gorgeous picture warms my heart too. It is contentment from head to toe. ahhh…
Joner #10, you crack me up too! Uhum, just chillin’.
Heart, consider it done!
Spellbound, I so remember the fans singing “Crush” to David. Something to cherish for us all.
Lovedavid, I did see the video of David’s reaction to the Standupto2Cancer results, so far. Another example of his genuine goodness and sincerity. So late….can’t sleep from the huge adrenaline rush earlier. Goodnight all, and thanks Rascal for everything.
Vermeer, I’m willing, willing for San Fran!! ‘Night all………..
I haven’t posted in a long while although I have been reading everybody’s posts here on a daily basis. Uh, make that at least 6 times a day. Yeah, you think you guys are the only fan freaks! Oh, no! I spend at least 5 hours a day in front of a computer before work, during work (I’m afraid I’m going to get fired), and after work. Hah! I used to sleep at least 7 hours a day but now, 4-5 hours is more like it. I want to get cured from this illness but then again maybe I don’t.
These two pictures of David are simply… “thud!” David is such a beautiful person. Yeah, I’d say whoever gets to enjoy those lips are super lucky (picture form Rascal’s previous post). I did see him in person like most of you here and he does have those luscious lips. Someone should email the link to this picture to Chapstick. Winter is coming up pretty soon and people would be buying chapstick by the dozen. They should hire David as their spokesperson.
David’s picture on this new blog is really cute too. I haven’t seen him cross his leg like that in a picture before. I remember hearing a song about a pictures telling a thousand words. Not sure of the lyrics exactly. You can tell he really is a very happy person and like Rascal pointed out “content”. I read an article posted on the archuletafans.com where David talks about his reaction when Crush was number 1 on itunes. He said he was jumping up and down and was doing cartwheel! I wish someone took a picture of him doing that.
Can I ask everyone here to forgive me if I plug the Crush Kids’ Cancer fundraising? I’m sure some of you may have donated already. Pecanpie is doing such a wonderful job in getting people pumped up about donating to this worthy cause. If her team is one of the top two, the team ‘Crush Kids’ Cancer-DAvid Archuleta’s Angels’ will be recognized on the show tomorrow (Friday). I think all three major networks, ABC, CBS, and NBC are going to air the show. The deadline for donating is Friday, tomorrow, at 11AM. We have but a short time to make it happen. Right now the team is second showing $26.6K in donated funds from 502 people. I know David’s fanbase is way bigger than 502 people. I have donated what I could. If anyone here wants to donate but didn’t know about this fundraiser, you are welcome to join Archie’s team and make sure you assign your donation to the right team. Please click on this link to donate
http://su2c.standup2cancer.org/teams
Sorry, Rascal for taking too much space.
spellbound…you could not have chosen a better place to share your love of David…
The idols are off tomorrow night 9/5, so hopefully if time permits, I really hope they take the time to visit The Hall of Fame. I was thinking maybe the day off was scheduled so that they could visit the Hall. As a lifelong music lover, I have visited the Hall several times…and I have no doubt David will someday be inducted…that’s how sure I am that he will be one of, if not the biggest artist ever, and I mean ever!! What we are witnessing is so much more than we can IMAGiNE…no pun intended. It’s kinda scary ( in a good way ) sometimes, the way David really does have us in the palm of his hands…Scary cause as today has shown, we find so much pleasure in every little thing he does! I have really enjoyed everyone’s ODD today! And rascal calls ME a freak! haha!
thank you for the thousandth ( is that a word?) time, rascal! By the way, rascal, do you ever feel like you were destined to do what you are doing FOR David and US?? It feels so right, doesn’t it?
Have I mentioned that I will be seeing & hearing David on 9/11 ?
This is a pretty terrific place to be! Silverfoxe, you always show such heartfelt appreciation for David. He shows us in so many ways…ie, the ChapStick moment…He get’s us…he really get’s us!!!
Silverfoxe, great that you will see get to see David again on 9/11. Dang, you guys are so lucky!
In the event that you get to talk to him, can you please just mention that Crush is already #1 in 2 of the biggest radio stations in Manila, Philippines (where Ramiel came from) and that his angels here are continuously requesting for it. But I will understand if you get all Archustumped in front of him & completely forget. Haha.
Hey Spellbound, Welcome! It’s always wonderful to hear another case of ODD.
CRUSH KIDS CANCER has doubled donation amount since brought to David’s attention! Another “warm heart” moment! Go Archie’s Angel’s
OMG, the Crush team is now in second place, at almost $30,000 ~ these donation amounts are astounding! Even if David’s team doesn’t win, I know how happy he’ll be just to know that he has inspired such an honorable cause! I love seeing him speechless!
Oops! Meant to say that David has inspired “donations” to such an honorable cause ~ but I’m sure you all get what I mean! I’m looking forward to another look of surprise on David’s face ~ maybe a blog ~ anything David will be just fine!
What a precious picture. Love it beyond belief!!! My thrill today was on my drive to work. While listening to a local station that has played Crush, I heard it played “oh yeah” and then when it was over I switched stations only to find in playing on the next station too. I CRIED! How exciting to know he is filling northern Michigan’s airwaves. I will never be able to get enough of this young man.
I just had to share my excitement with all of you – I have been so sad because David was going to be within an hour and a half from where I live and I didn’t think I was going to be able to attend the concert.
Then last night things changed and I am going on Monday!!!!! I am also going to get to meet some fellow fans from another site who will be there. One is coming from Kentucky and 2 from Florida!!
Also #27 Ely – I know what you mean about coming here all the time. I work from home and since I learned of this site – way back in the beginning – I have had a lot less sleep and am seriously behind in my work and my house – well, we won’t even go there:)
I am so thrilled that I will get to hear David on Monday!
Yes jackyran I too would be Arcustumped if I ever get the chance to meet him!
#25 chickee–are you in New York? Were you at the show? NY was lucky enough to have 2 AI concerts–lots of fans here!! #28 silverfoxe and #31 cutter12–thanks for the welcome!! So good to be here with other ODD’ers!! Silverfoxe–amazing that you will be seeing David on 9/11. While remembering an unforgettable day in our history, you will be witnessing an unforgettable performance for sure. How unbelievable that David was invited to perform at one of the NYC firehouses on the 1st anniversary of 9/11!! He seemed to bring so much spirituality to a place so desperate to recover… I wonder how/if David will touch on 9/11. Silverfoxe–you will update us for sure! REMEMBER–everyone hang your flags somewhere, anywhere on 9/11. Anyway, can’t wait to tune in tonight for SU2C. If you won’t be home, set your DVR’S. Hope our donations go over the top!!
jackryan4DA…this will be my second concert..in Lexington, at the barricades I was so close to David and everyone around me was speaking to him…me, I could not even open my mouth…and for everyone here who “knows” me…well maybe it was a good thing???
But I did do the “CRUSH CRUISE”!!! haha! This time, if weather permits…yes I check the weather every day, twice a day..and David comes out to the barricades, I promise I will give him your message, in fact I will write down your message and sign it with your blog name…..someday he will do a world tour and will come your way and you can tell him you were with him at the beginning all the way!!
spellbound… to be honest, the date, 9/11 for the Evansviile concert kinda threw me. It felt not quite right to be having one of the best times of my life (again) on that date, but I’m sure idols will say something in memory of the day that changed everyone forever…strange….I was changed on THAT day, then I was “changed” again when I first saw David on AI !! My life changed as did everyone’s here at notingdavid and FOD, and all the other many fansites….it’s almost a mystery how & why it happened to so many almost all at once…like a bolt of lightening! We were all like “WHAT JUST HAPPENED?!?” haha! I’m kind of rambling again here, so please pardon the grammar & spelling…I just love all of you and if I could have one wish, other than actually meet David at the AP, it would be that all of the notingdavid family would one day meet face to face! AAAHHH! what a reunion that would be! Can you IMAGINE? The love and respect
that we have for this glorius man/child is so great that we (I) don’t want to lose touch with anyone here ever!
Sorry, a little off topic here. I just listened to David’s “Angels” in Cleveland on FANBLAST. I don’t know but it seems to me that he sounded AMAZING!!! More amazing than usual if that’s possible. It could be my state of mind, but his voice sounded so strong and yes, deeper.
I’m going to go back and listen again only cranked up –really high volume, kinda like I feel right now. There seems to be an ebb and flow feeling to this journey and I feel like I’m riding the crest of a skyscraper high wave.
Wooh!! Settle down “Nelly”. Wooh!!!!
ram….Your state of mind is COREECTOMUNDO!!! I just listened and oh my gosh!! THE BEST “ANGELS” YET!! CAN HE SOUND ANY BETTER?
CAN’T WAIT FOR THE REST OF THE VIDEOS FROM CLEVELAND!!
DAVID ARCHULETA IS DEFINITELY “THE VOICE” OF 2008 AND FOREVERMORE!!
WHEW! And no more “man/child”, he is “The Man” haha!
Yeah..go to FOD for SBM, ANGELS and APOLOGIZE videos!
It is 9 AM here in NM…what a way to start my last day here!!
OH…I forgot…careful when you check out FOD…the first pic of David is well, I had to lift myself off the floor! haha! Those expressive hands……
whooooo boy!!!
Chickee #12 – Since the concert tuesday I have heard a lot of people talking about their DC to DA conversion (not that they can’t like both)! Green Bay is a small town and people were a little peaved that DC didn’t show up for the after party (as I’m sure he was busy), but it only takes one really vocal person to turn it into something. ‘Crush’ was #1 in GB again last night, and I just saw it on the cable ‘Music Choice’ (New Hits) channel. Put a smile on my face!
Lora, I cried also.
Spellbound, no not in NY, live in CT and saw the Hartford show on 8/8. A day that will live in my mind for “all eternity.” at least my eternity, lol.
Silverfoxe, I cannot imagine seeing David on 9/ll. I’ll be thinking of you. Living so close to NYC there were many people affected here in CT by this tragedy. Never forget the ensuing days afterward the utter quiet outside, not hearing ANY planes in the sky. soooo eerie. ENOUGH!
OMG, pls. everyone do go to the “Angels” Cleveland. His voice, especially on the lower register notes, has deepend. This has always been my favorite of the 4 songs on the tour, when he sings the Yeah, Yeah, Yeah runs in the middle of the song, after countless “listenings” of this song, the goose bumps still invade!! Hey Jesse, how can we get more DA converts on the bandwagon? Hope that smile never leaves your face!
JONER post # 10 ——– love it !!!!! LOL
ok going to go listen to “Angels” in Cleveland…….
Just listened to the Grand Rapids WMXI interview with David from Wednesday afternoon. God, that reporter was terrible. I’ve seen her on local promo spots for the show on the local FOX station. I am so sick of these irrelevant questions about girls, kissing…please! I noticed that David’s body language immediately relaxed when she asked him about music, something substantative.
Sorry if I seem so hard on that interviewer! I just get frustrated by the same questions over and over.
Freo, I’m with you on that one. I noticed David asserted himself toward the end of the interview and tried switching it up some by diverting her attention to the building across the street, saying “Look, Arch.” As he said that, he kind of leaned in toward her, showing no signs of shyness at all. Just love the Archuleta ride we’re all on, seeing different dimensions of his personality. Yes, interviewers PLEASE stop with the g/f questions, get creative please? even the breakfast question was at least something different!! Like Tina Turner said “i hang on every word you say.” David you ARE “Simply the Best.”
Freo…yes, I saw that too…UGH!! But David, the sweetheart that he is, is always so polite. I guess he’s just going to have to be ready for those stupid questions and have a “pat” answer like “I’ve answered that question a hundred times..next question?” or “Excuse me? Did you really ask me that AGAIN?!” then just break out with his unique laugh!
If only they would let him do his thing like in the DC FOX interview we all love!! Whoever conducted that interview was a genius for just letting him go on at the onset by asking him something he wanted to talk about. I just LOVE that interview and watch it almost every single day!
Come on, everyone, how can David shut down those questions and still be his sweet self???
Oh my, that Angels from Cleveland is awsome! Chills, goosebumps, moist eyes, breathless. New notes here and there, his voice is so powerful and so full of emotions it cuts right through space and our hearts. I can’t wait for his solo concert. I may need to bring an oxygen mask or tank with me.
I agree with everyone, lame interviewer, lame questions. But silverfoxe, David could probably never be rude to anyone or be blunt. I know, WE want to tell inept interviewers off who make David feel like he has to apologize for not being interesting. David, you are so incredibly interesting to us fans, never worry or apologize for being your wonderful self!
Me = equals Devil’s Advocate. LOL!
Though I will agree that the questions could have been better and more interesting, David has left himself open to “those” questions by admitting in 17 mag that he’s never had his first kiss AND releasing a song about a “Crush” as his first single. LOL!
As for the repetitiveness of the questions…that I can’t agree with. Although they are repetitive to David and certainly to us – those of us who scour the internet for any bit of news on him – the average viewer does not. The average viewer will either get their news on the nightly news on TV OR they will log on to their “local” news channel’s website to get the news on what is going on. The average viewer has NOT seen all those OTHER interviews in all those OTHER cities. So for the average viewer these are new questions that have never been answered before. The reporter is doing her job…she’s reporting to her local viewers….not us out here in the ether….though I admit she could have asked more interesting questions. ^_^
(Disclaimer: I work for a “local” community newspaper and feel I must defend the reporter. Our reporters report on things locally with the assumption that we are the only place you get your news. ^_^)
juliebug, you made some good points. I was reminded that not all fans are as rabid as I am at the concert on Wednesday. We were walking out of the building and I just turned to some concert-goes and said, “So, are you heading to the buses?” They looked at me like I was crazy, had no idea what I was talking about. I have to remind myself that the general public has not seen all the interviews, photos, gossip, etc. that I have.
I am really looking forward to Ford Day when I’ll be attending with fans just as fanatic as I am!
juliebug, I was going to add to my last comment (but didn’t bother probably because I’m not a reporter but it’s good to see you defending your fellow reporters) something similar to what you say. I had previously the typical reactions ‘don’t they know anything? Don’t they do their homework?’ when I heard David being asked in a radio interview if the idols travelled by bus, etc. but then I had to rethink that the interview was not just for the fans but for anyone out there who is listening so you have to assume everything is ‘news’.
I also used to lament the repititive question ‘what’s the weirdest gift you’ve gotten from a fan?’ but had to realize that some people are seeing him on TV or listening to him on the radio possibly for the first time. I was really pleased to see he had an answer for this question at this one radio interview (after getting flustered trying to answer the same question earlier on the red (blue) carpet at the TCA show, most likely because he thought calling a gift from a fan weird would constitute an insult and disrespect to the fan). But this time he came with a ready answer. I suspect you’ve all heard that interview so I won’t say, but he clearly thought he needed to be prepared for some of these repititive queries. Ok, the answer was an olive/cherry pitter. He was still very cute and polite about it.
I guess what I think is lame is questions about pranks just because he is young. Considering this particular reporter claims to like him a lot, she sure doesn’t even know he is not the type to pull pranks on people. It was just a filler type question in my mind, therefore a waste of precious David time on the air.
Aw, David wrote a new blog reminding us about the Stand Up 2 Cancer program tonight:
http://blog.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=blog.view&friendID=372079673&blogID=430506171
He’s so precious, and he’s so earnest that I’m going to tune in, just cause he asked us to!
I love how I’m willing to listen to someone half my age. I love that he’s like the only celebrity who would get me to do anything just cause he asked me to. And he is someone who doesn’t ask for much. *sigh*
David is such an inspiration to us that I am just THRILLED to give to this worthy cause in David’s name! But no one had to twist my arm to watch tonight, since I have myself survived cancer twice and have lived to tell about it! I was only 32 the first time! My brother died of lung cancer the year of 9/11 ~ so I’ve been touched by this horrible disease, like many of you have too, I’m sure. I’m just so excited that David is involved in STANDING UP TO CANCER tonight, and we can all stand with him! (I just think they should have asked him to sing IMAGINE instead of Josh Groban ~ ha ~ nothing against Josh Groban, he’s my 2nd favorite singer! He got demoted when David made his appearance on AI.) Love that David Archuleta! He makes my heart sing more than anybody I know!
I was lurking over at the idol forums website and recognized the photo from the top of this post. Shebee wrote a wonderful account of the concert in Green Bay and also her encounters with the Idols. (Lots of wonderful pictures too!) But, the part that left me all choked up and teary eyed was about a drawing that her 10 yr old son had made. It was a crayon monster that he had named David Archuleta. Shebee presented it to David along with a letter explaining the circumstances about her son.
If you haven’t read the story I encourage you to do so. It’s always so wonderful to hear about how David has inspired people.
The link is http://idolforums.com/index.php?showtopic=576899&st=0
I recommend that you have tissues close by.
Sorry to hear about your your experience, Heart, but glad to hear you survived! Sorry about your brother; my uncle, who was like a father to me, also died of lung cancer.
I myself had to have a biopsy this year to test for breast cancer (everything turned out fine), and I have a follow up exam next week, so keeping my fingers crossed! So, it’s certainly not hard to give to such a worthy cause like this, but I wasn’t paying attention to what was on TV tonight, and David’s kind little reminder was well appreciated.
And, after Josh’s performance of Imagine tonight, I sincerely hope all comparisons between him and David are put to rest. Sorry, but Josh ain’t got nothing on our David! Then again, I don’t think I could ever hear Imagine performed without comparing it to what David did and find the other singer lacking (too bad David wasn’t around to perform it tonight instead).
cutter12: Beautiful story from Shebee, thanks for providing the link.
Heart and hello gorgeous – I wish you all the best health! My dear sister was diagnosed with breast cancer just a month ago and has a long road ahead of her. This is a disease that touches everyone.
juliebug…OK, I apologize if I offended…but I still don’t see why just about every reporter has to ask about “the first kiss”…and since it makes David uncomfortable when it comes up, I do wish he could laugh it off with his unique laugh and tell them “they” will be the “first to know when it happens…next question”. just sayin’…
“Imagine” does belong to David except for the original by John Lennon, who I think would have been very happy with David’s cover. ( secretly though, I prefer David’s over Lennon’s but that’s just me ).
CANCER…who has not been touched by that insidious disease? If not a family member, friend or yourself, then you are most fortunate. I have NOT been fortunate in that regard and my prayers go out to all of you who also have had to deal with cancer.
cutter12 thank you so much for the link to shebee’s story..just beautiful !!
cutter12, thank you for sharing this and thank you for the tissue warning. I have to go now but wanted to say thank you. David too was once too shy to want to sing in public. Hopefully some day Shebee’s son will grow more confident and sing to and for others just like David to share his gift.
First of all, Cutter 12: I’ve just spent the last HOUR reading that beautiful story at the link you posted in #57 ~ these are the type of testimonials that really touch these singers’ hearts ~ and I’m sure David will treasure it forever! Thanks so much for sharing it with us ~ I never would have seen it otherwise ~ and what gorgeous pictures she shared! Wow ~ including the one on this page that we all love so much!
Hello Gorgeous, I feel your pain, and I’m so sorry about your uncle! Glad everything turned out well for you though! We have soooo much to be thankful for tonight! And yes, after tonight ~ the little bit of IMAGINE that was sung really made me miss David’s presence there.
And Silverfoxe, I’m sorry but I have to agree with YOU that David even has John Lennon beat. I know John Lennon was a Beatle, but he never moved me like David has, so many times. And neither has anyone else. Even Josh Groban’s WYSYLM is more heartwarming when sung by David! And he’s getting better & better! Wow!
And yes, we’ve all been touched by cancer. Even this week, a friend of mine’s husband is in the hospital with cancer, and she just found out she has cancer as well. So very sad. They’ve only been married a short time too.
So need I say, we should enjoy every minute! ‘Night all!
Whoa, was tonight’s Imagine duet off key or what? The harmony didn’t work for me. I have Josh Groban’s CDs, but I hope everyone listening tonight was struck by how brilliant David’s rendition of Imagine was in comparison.
As far as the interview questions, I wish David would set a boundary with the kissing question. It is OK for him NOT to answer a question. He might just need some help framing a reply. How about, “If you forgive me for not answering that question, I’ll forgive you for asking it.” *Smile* Or, maybe he could say something like, “I won’t ‘kiss and tell’ and I won’t ‘NOT kiss and tell’. I consider that to be something special and private.”
I hope he comes up with a canned response soon and nips this in the bud before the next question is “Have you had sex with a girl, yet?”
(not that I care one way or another what choices he makes in his personal life. I can see, though, how conflicted he is when he is asked those kinds of questions.)
kindredspririt: I agree, I wish he could set better boundaries. It made my stomach hurt to hear him say he was sorry he wasn’t interesting. Good grief! He doesn’t need to apologize for anything. Plus he needs a gentle and humorous response to those tiresome girlfriend/first kiss questions.
davidfanLIZ: Yes, gentle and humorous (not necessarily my forte, as you can see) Or, maybe some random deflection like, “that building has ‘Arch’ on it.”
David, it’s the reporter that’s uninteresting and boring, not you!
OK, I’m begging someone, please let’s construct a list of snappy comebacks to get to him on the kissing question.
I checked out the Cleveland video. I love the prolonged cloud as they waited for David to appear. I have always been fond of Angels. The words became even more important to me when I saw a video a fan made with David singing Angels with pictures of Lupe entitled Thank you Lupe Archuleta. I found it so touching that this superb young man openly showed his affection for his mother. Abraham Lincoln said, ” All that I am or ever hope to be, I owe to my Angel Mother.” I think in David’s case his Dad is also a definite enabler. They certainly care about their son’s gift and dream . David is growing wings and maturing before our very eyes. There are a lot of thuds going on as self assurance is being reflected in many of these latest poses. Can you just imagine him at 25!!! Be still my heart!!!
He will have to decide what his patter will be as he promotes Crush as you know the question will be asked over and over. When my son was 17 he was so busy with all his interests he was as innocent as David. Girls were pals and he didn’t want to lose them as friends by having them become girlfriends. I find it so refreshing in today’s fast forward world David has been able to be himself. That has always been a great part of his charm.
ChapStick II – This new up close video will not help the kissing question to go away.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PzkxdekKlss
Holy cow GranFan, thank you for posting this ChapStick II! I couldn’t believe it, seeing David coming right up to the camera with his lips and chapstick action! It’s time to go to bed but now I’m wide awake again! Oh boy!! We heard this time what made him crack up. It always makes me feel so good when I hear him laugh. He is so comfortable with his fans that he even asks if it is all over his lips. He is so cute!! GAH!
“It melted really fast.” HOT lips David!! Ok, time to go sleep.
GranFan#69, thanks for sharing that chapstick video! Ha Ha! David, David, David, you just don’t know how hot you are (or do you?)! Keep doing these things, and interviewers will be asking you kissing questions for a long, long time!
Keep doing this, and they just might try to give you your first kiss!
I know I’m not alone when I say he’s soooo kissable!
Repeats to self: “He will soon be 18, he will soon be 18, he will soon be 18…”
davidfanLIZ and Heart, thanks for your well wishes!
WELL, I must say that “Chapstick Deluxe” video is positively glorious.
Hello Gorgeous, just wanted to chime in and agree heartily with your comment about any future comparisons between DA and JG. Amen! lol. I’m also one who is far more wrapped up in the excitement and anticipation of all that is to come and the joy of watching his career, life (WINGS) unfold before us. To those who are feeling sadness and “loss” as the concert tour winds down I urge you to remember that the best is yet to come. You’ll probably be happier than you ever imagined with every new milestone. (Isn’t that ALWAYS the way it is when we’re talking about David?) Take heart!
The statistics on the SU2C special confirm that most of you (and myself included) have been assaulted by cancer in one way or another. I sincerely hope that the intent of SU2C is fully realized and that we finally “get the lead out” and squelch that stinking monster right this red hot minute. I hope SU2C is a movement that actually does turn out to have legs. How wonderful that would be! Oh, and a special cheers to Pecan Pie, whoever and wherever you are!
OMG! That video will go down in Archuleta history!!! So much better than the last one ~ DELUXE is right! Only Davd could make a video about Chapstick so adorable. All advertisers should be alerted ~ the answer to your prayers is here ~ how to get viewers to watch your commercials over & over & over? Just put David Archuleta in them! Gosh! I was going to sleep in this Saturday morning, after just checkiing here to see if there was anything new. Well, after viewing that video I am wide awake and wanting to watch it a few more times! Thank you, GranFran!!! What a way to start a weekend! Now I know how to wake up without coffee!!!
P.S. Hello Gorgeous and Beebee ~ thanks for your heartfelt comments about cancer, the ugly dragon! Loved the program last night and at least seeing David’s name up there on the screen. Would have much rather seen him in person though.
My friend is a Cookie fan, and she said he was supposed to have a taped appearance, but I didn’t see that either (???) Maybe it ended up on the cuttng room floor ~ or did I just miss it? As for JG, I’m afraid that anyone who now sings a “DA” song will disappoint. I always envision and “hear” DA singing whatever song it is.
By the way, I loved Jeff’s part in the video too. He seemed really amused by the whole encounter between David, the Chapstick, the fan, the gift. This made my day, for sure! Keep those videos coming! Ha! And yes, life after the tour will only get better and better!
Sigh! Chapstick Deluxe. Oh my.
Tulsa 9-13 here I come. Last concert on the tour, one week from today.
He is truly so sweet.
Ok, so how many times have I viewed this video? And what’s so great is it’s so nice and long! Just love the part where David asks the fan if it’s all over his lips! Too cute! Also loved the little “disagreement” at the end between Jeff and the fan as to who sings “Beautiful Girls” better ~ David or the original ~ I’m with the fan! LOL!
GranFran, is this YOU in the video, or who? Whoever she is, her laugh is contagious, as well as her sense of humor! Would love to know who she is, and hope she knows her video is such a HIT! Thank you, Dear Lady!
My friend sent me this shoutout from David Cook, from his Myspace:
Stand Up 2 Cancer
I just wanted to blog real quick and say how deeply moved I was by the show tonight. Kudos to everyone who put it on, and let’s do what we can to make sure that it’s not just about tonight, but everyday.
Thank you to everyone who donated, and I have to give kudos to David Archuleta’s Angels for their Crush Kids’ Cancer Team. They set a goal of $25,000, and exceeded it, raising $31,215.80, according to standup2cancer.org. WAY TO GO!!!
Heart #78 – No, I am not in the video. I only wish. I am hundreds of miles away and was just surfing for an ODD fix before going to bed when I happened upon it. Needless to say, it delayed bedtime by many minutes while I watched it over and over. I agree that the woman in the video has a wonderful (and musical) laugh. We hear her joy. I see that the video is popping up all over the place this morning on other David fan sites, so I’m sure it won’t be difficult to learn all the details before the morning is over. Hot lips indeed!
just here waiting to go to the airport on my way home, thought I’d check to see the happenings from last night and what do I find??
Chapstick II !!! Why, oh why didn’t I buy that laptop before I left for vacation!! Maybe I can PAY someone who has one on the plane?!?
What a video!! If there was a prize for BEST DAVID/FAN VIDEO..this one would be at the top of my list!!
On a serious side…we know that, at some point, David will have to distance himself from having these on-on-one fun-fests with his fans. That’s the price of fame. As he gets BIGGER, for security & safety reasons, he will have to surround himself with bodyguards. It’s inevitable, even though he may not like it, and may even fight it, but it is the PRICE OF FAME. There are alot of crazies out there…and he’ll have to be protected not only from his “envious haters” but also from the really “Obsessive Fans”…not any of the ODDer’s mind you, but you all know what I’m talking about. When I read about David being seen at a restaurant or anywhere else, I think to myself, how much longer can he do that without being mobbed??? I pray he will always be safe and as happy as he is right now!
Gotta go catch my plane now!
GranFan, I agree with you wholeheartedly! LOL! Thanks again for sharing that wonderful “treat” ~ as are ALL things David!
Saw this posted at another site:

‘American’ made
“Idol” worship is a year-round activity, what with former winners, contenders and also-rans producing a steady stream of product. This fall, though, three “Idol” discs have a chance of being more than chart bottom-feeders. The two Davids — Archuleta and Cook — extend their loving rivalry by releasing their debuts on the same day, Nov. 11. Archie’s is sure to overflow with breathy paeans to young love like his current hit, “Crush.” Cook, who’s working with renowned rock-dude producer Rob Cavallo toward that Green Day-meets-Our Lady Peace sound, can count on mall shoppers popping in to Best Buy.
I’m home! In Louisville KY..and of course before I even unpack, I log on to notingdavid to get the scoops of the day…..where is everybody?? I am hoping rascal is in Bridgeport CT…
Jackryan, yes I too saw that article ~ I believe it also said that both Jennifer Hudson and Kelly Clarkson would also be dropping their CD’s before the end of the year ~ Kelly’s in December, and I believe JHud’s will be the first of the 4. The David & David recordings were supposed to be Nov. 4 ~ and now it’s Nov. 11 ~ that date may change too before it’s all over! Nevertheless, I can’t wait!
Hope you had a good trip, Silverfoxe! Did you see the newer Chapsticks video? Such a treat!
sorry, have to get used to MY computer again…didn’t finish my post. Anyway,
I’m hoping rascal went to the concert in Bridgeport tonight. He owed it to himself to hear David again. And if not tonight, there’s always Providence, RI
Sunday night.
Me…well I’m counting the days, hours, minutes til 9/11! although I still can’t believe they scheduled a concert on that date….
jackryan4DA…I saw that article too. But I think David’s album release has been pushed back a week or so? At any rate…there’s alot of buzz about David A….so much so, that I forget he didn’t win! It will be ‘interesting’ to
see how we, ARCH ANGELS, are going to be “REVIVED” when we see the CRUSH VIDEO….There’s going to be women going *thud* everywhere! haha!
Ah, the Crush video!!! Thanks for reminding me! That day cannot come soon enough! I wonder if David has seen the “finished product” yet! I also wonder if they’ll have another “first time reveal” like they did with his 1st song in NYC? Bring it on ~ whatever! Thud, thud, thud!
Heart…thanks! And yes, I did see the CHAPSTICK II VIDEO (see my post on #81 from this morning! and of course, I had to “Dee-freak” myself and got serious then too.
I may get some flak about this, but I’m going to give my point of view anyway…did anyone wonder why Jeff chose to go up to David just at that particular time when David seemed to be having a ball with his fans? Some
thought it was “cool” that the fans got to talk with Jeff too, but I guess I just would have loved the video even more without Dad in it….and I really loved it! The video was supposed to be about David, chapstick, and his scrumptious hot (remember it melted really fast!) LIPS…having dad in the video just wasn’t right to me since we were all drooling all over the monitors…be honest, now!?!
I think Jeff wanted to tell David whatever it was he was talking on the phone about. If you look at the beginning of the first Chapstick video, you can see Jeff across the street talking on his cell phone and pacing up and down. This was also the same day, if you watch the other videos from that day, where they were trying to get him to go in to watch the rough cut of the new Crush video.
But, alas, or good for him, depending on how you look at it…he wouldn’t be rushed and spent about 2 hours out there with the fans.
I just read a really cute comment on IDF from ‘Boomingvoice’ and their impressions and aspirations regarding David after meeting him in Cleveland. It kinda reiterates (sp.) this happier than usual DA that has been emerging. Whether it’s because of the tour ending, or just a phase in maturing, IDK, but I dig it! Here’s that quote:
“I don’t know. He infected me with his happy. I want to be him when I grow up. Maybe if they offered classes on how to be kind and good and gracious and steadfast, and smart and talented and particular and forgiving, and happy, if they offered classes in all of that, I could totally be David Archuleta when I’m old.”
I think knowing he has that affect on someone would only make him happier~ Sign me up for Archu-Life-Lessons 101….
I was not planning on saying anymore about DA tonight but I kinda cracked up at this video someone sent me. IDK about anyone else, but just about the last thing I’d give David for a gift would be a LIVE FISH! You don’t want to incite Smoky Mormon Memories of Conditioner.. lol.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WJ5N6YBafQw&eurl=http://idolforums.com/index.php?s=1f6b10d9bc8b4620039ec426419032ec&showtopic=567425&st=9940&#entry17336118
Maybe it was just a recently live fish but still. I think I know what his next answer to the “weidest thing a fan ever fave you” question will be. Kinda puts the cherry pitter to shame!
Oh yeah and ‘Angels in Bridgeport’….Does not sound sickl, but rather AMAZING I must say! http://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=K0iZmnqjxPE
What if we’re already old? Archu-life-lessons 101…hmmm, what we could learn…the possibilities are endless! Put my name on the attendance list, Please.
Well…David has already proven you CAN teach old dogs new tricks. LOL!
I just got in… swamped with work even on weekends and my son had to sweetly ask me to bring his uniform to Seattle’s Best (where he part-times as a barista) cos he forgot to bring it! Sigh… BUT that’s not my story!
Archies – Magic 89.9 was running its Top 30 countdown and David was down now to #3 – well he was #1 for 2 weeks but we will get him back up soon! He was actually #5 last Thursday so Archies here went to request mode once again. Anw, after playing Crush the DJ mentioned that there are talks of BRINGING THE IDOL TOUR TO MANILA! Cos if they bring Cook, why not DA? and if the 2 Davids, why not Jason? Ramiele would be here by December already. I almost stopped breathing and started getting giddy but I had to concentrate cos I was on the road!
Of course my head tells me, it is a looooong shot cos that would require a lot of moolah! But my goodness, when that happens, am already freaking out just thinking about the possibilities. Miracles do happen, right?
Oh my goodness, I think my kids will disown by then – hahahaha
No kidding, Angels in Bridgeport, W-O-W, thanks for pointing that out, Jesse. I also loved this fan vid that’s posted elsewhere, but what the hey, I’ll mention too:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NfM_0g4sqRk
SILVERFOXE – “I promise I will give him your message, in fact I will write down your message and sign it with your blog name…..someday he will do a world tour and will come your way and you can tell him you were with him at the beginning all the way!!”
Oh your so sweet! Thanks a lot and look at that! You just mentioned a world tour someday and now there are talks that the Idol might come to Manila!!! OMG, if ever that happens I really don’t know what I’d! I NEVER in my life have even asked any celebrity for an autograph! Have never been fangirly over anyone! I probably would have for John Lennon but I was too young when they came to Manila. But, am getting ahead of myself so I should calm down…. Whew!
AWESTRUCK – aren’t we all Archustumped with our ODD?
RE: the album release date – well Amazon is advising those who pre-ordered that the delivery has been moved to Nov 12. Of course, these things change a lot so let’s see what happens. In the meantime, are we anytime near the VIDEO release?
dang it! “you’re” not “your”… sorry about that
Wow, this discussion has grown since I last tuned in! Talk about ODD! What are we going to do when the tour ends (this is the last week!)? I guess obsess over the music video and his upcoming album? Hee.
Guys, I realize I can sometimes come off as a worrywart, which seems to suggest that I’m not always subscribing to the motto: “Trust the Archulator.”
I trust David completely! In fact, from what I’ve been able to learn about him – during the show, after the show, in interviews, in various videos of him interacting with his fans, his blogs, etc. – I know deep down that, even if this Idol experience from just this year is all he will ever have of a career in music, David will be a content and happy man. If this were all he had to live on, he would be fine. In fact, his other goal – to be an eye/ear/throat doctor – would fit him just as well too! Those large hands of his – my mom always told me a man with big hands is a man with a big heart… and, um, other big things
… – and those honest and beautiful eyes that can pierce right through you, those things, plus his kind personality, would make him an excellent doctor. I can see him having such a career while still singing on the side (whether in his church or local gigs or what have you). David is going to be content at whatever he does, whether it’s a quiet life outside of the spotlight, or even if he had a marginally successful music career. I also realize that I, myself, don’t need him to be a superstar to be happy. As long as I had access to his beautiful voice – on the radio, in downloads, at a concert – life will be sweet.
My worries have always been about the expectation that, because he is an Idol star, he must sell lots of albums, that he must dominate the charts, that he must be a commercial success, if we want to witness a follow-up music career where he gets to be who he truly wants to be musically. I for one am glad David has modest expectations; I only worry that the rest of us (the fan base, Jive, 19E, media) expect much much more and, if for some reason he doesn’t deliver, we’re ready to say the word “failure” or “flop.”
Don’t get me wrong: his potential for greatness and his addition into the music hall of fame are still what I think he’s capable of achieving, as so many of you all believe too. But, do we all have the patience to let this ride out? Do we all have the patience to let things unfold over time so that he can get to that point, even if our ODD fix needs things to fall into place right away?
This is a virtue I myself need to practice, but I eagerly await the closing of this particular chapter (David’s Idol experience, as the tour comes to an end) and the beginning of a new one.
It’s hard not to get sentimental about this, and I sure hope David chronicles in his blog what the last day of the tour and saying goodbye to his 9 best friends was like. I’m getting weepy just thinking about it!
Silverfoxe ~ sorry, I completely missed your #81 post! I for one didn’t mind Jeff being there in the beloved video ~ like Juliebug pointed out, there may have been things going on behind the scenes that we don’t know about ~ so I guess I always expect interruptions. I’m just thankful for such a “long” video in comparison to some of the others. I could watch David interacting with fans for hours & hours, without interruption, as I’m sure all of us ODD fans could.
JesseQ, haven’t seen that FISH video before ~ poor David! He was like “HELP!!! What do I do now?” Sounds like something a child may have thought of??? Ha! But that ANGELS video in CT ~ WOW! No, he doesn’t look sick there ~ quite the opposite! Such clarity and that unbelievably gorgeous voice of his! Made me wish I were back home in New England again! Thanks for sharing that!
Highervibe, thanks for that one too ~ just beautiful! I can’t believe ALL the beautiful videos of David all over the Internet! Lots to keep us busy when the tour is over ~ I love them all!
Jackryan, last I heard, the video was “supposed to be” released around Sept 15th ~ couldn’t come soon enough for me!
whew! just saw the Bridgeport video of “THE VOICE” singing ANGELS…David continues to….what? AMAZE, INSPIRE, HYPNOTIZE, MESMERIZE, ETC, ETC, with his wondrous VOICE AND AURA…oh and his BEAUTY ain’t bad either! CHILLS & HEAT all at once…AND HE IS ONLY 17! UN-BUH-LIEVE-ABLE!
jackryan4DA…When I see David at the barricades, I’ll be sure to tell him he must go to MANILA real soon!
The LIVE FISH! Poor David..He was so concerned about the fishee’s safety, he actually followed the guard to make sure it would be OK! ha ha ha!
Is it just me, or does the Bridgeport “Angels” reflect how David’s voice is getting deeper and even richer? I think that MLC or his voice coach said this would happen during the next few years.
Rascal, did you go to the CT or RI concert?
The chapstick video taken to a new level!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TE48hatT8W8
No more Idol concerts for me, folks. I still find it hard to believe that I even went to one!
hello gorgeous – You know I always agree with much of what you say and respect enormously your passion and devotion. So, I think what we need to worry about, if indeed we should worry at all, is David’s endurance and fortitude in dealing with a very challenging industry and set of personal circumstances (because we all have those). I believe David is a very strong person, I believe that while he may be humble and sweet he is not naive, and that in the end he will prevail. But the degree of demands and pressures he is being subjected to at such a young age is unusual, and even the savviest of individuals with the best advisers are going to feel overwhelmed. David is bearing up extremely well, but make no mistake–he is confronted with all manner of decisions and difficulties on a daily basis, from education issues to family demands, from fan obligations to tour duties, and to crafting his first album “in absentia.” Let us pray for David’s personal strength rather than for the strength of his market potential, which will come in its own due course.
That’s very true, rascal, but so much of these demands David is facing is still tied to the same expectation for commercial success. If that weren’t the overall goal, would David have to deal with all these demands at his young age? Look at the rush job with his first single, his music video, and his November album. I hope he’s handling it well, and, yes, will be praying for David’s personal strength.
hellogorgeous…Hello, Gorgeous! about David’s beautiful, expressive, strong, big hands…well, ummm…yes to everything you said about them…your mom is right about what she told you! Ok now, on to more serious matters….but first I always like reading your posts cause sometimes you and some others too, tend to bring some sanity to our insane ODD. I admit I do have very high expectations of and for David….from the first time I saw David on AI. I didn’t look at him and say he would be the next AI..I told myself and my son that “that kid will someday be a huge star”. I haven’t changed my mind. When you say he would be happy no matter what does…yes he would and that is due to his inner peace and harmony with the space around him…but, and I’ve said this before..I believe in DESTINY….this is David’s destiny to bring his inner peace and harmony to the world with his voice and music. He WANTS THIS! This is his dream..he has worked hard for this…this is is passion. I believe when he suffered the vocal cord paralysis that it was a test…if he hadn’t WANTED to sing, if it wasn’t what he was born to do, his DESTINY….it could have ended there. But his passion for singing was too great and he passed the test. His rise will be in phases…Star Search, AI, AI TOUR, SINGLE, ALBUM, etc. The genius in David is so great, that he knows he has to start with POP music first to reach the younger fans and that’s where the money is…now. Eventually, he will do his own thing…the music he really loves, from his heart & soul…he
has so much to tell…his brain is churning with so many melodies, you can see & feel it when he talks about it. This is his destiny. He won’t, can’t be denied. This is what he was born to do. As far as David ever “worrying” about his fans high expectations…honestly, I think he has even higher expectations for himself…not to make “tons” of money or be the greatest superstar ever, but to communicate his thoughts through words and melody, and when he achieves that goal in a few years maybe, he may surpass even the Beatles. I mean, just listen to his VOICE! High expectations…no way.. maybe not tomorrow, maybe not next year, but he will be one of the GREATS.
I do understand where you’re coming from hellogorgeous, believe me. I sometimes have to try to stop myself from going “overthetop” but then I just do anyway!
Forgive the grammar & spelling…
Silverfoxe, very well said ~ my sentiments exactly! There’s NO STOPPING DAVID! Slow & steady WINS THE RACE! And his fans will be there, right behind him, cheering him on, and loving him to pieces!
rascal…you can’t buh-lieve you went to one concert! Come on now…this is David, THE VOICE, we’re talking about…the one you went through storms and thunder to get to, the one you were rewarded with a beautiful rainbow!
The one you…yes you, seemed so excited to see!
anyway…you will be going to another and we will see you there…..when your “dream” comes true! I’ll be the one yelling “Hey rascal, nice to see ya!”
Browsing the internet I am sure y’all are very aware that David and his Dad are the butt of many jokes because of Crush “crumbling” in 3 weeks. (ex. vote for the worst). This makes me painfully angry since overzealous fans manipulated the sales. It would have been wiser to let it all play out in it’s own timeframe and therefore not alienating anyone. Dallas radio played Crush only twice in 13 hours when it was forced to as the #1 requested song. Many other songs were played several times. This could be a backlash. I can’t help thinking that all this fanaticism is going to doom his music career. Seems like an Aiken repeat.
I don’t think I need to state that Jeff is mentioned unfavorably, except on David’s fan sites. This should give us pause and maybe stop alienating the majority of fans and maybe the soon to be fans who do have negative views of dad. Our perception is our reality, and all the comments stating what a nice guy dad is, does NOT prove that dad is not what people believe him to be. (besides, his dad appearing during the chapstick video spoiled the video).
Some praise dad for the great son he raised; again taking away from David being his own person. Who knows, maybe mom is responsible. However, if you are going to give dad the credit for what is good about David, then you have to give dad the blame as well for what is not so good about David; such as David’s fears and worries.
When I see David’s discomfort in interviews, when I see the stumbling, when I see him in fear of what to say, when he tells us he hates to listen to his own voice, hates to look at his photos, I can’t help thinking that maybe dad forced him into the business and maybe we the fans are doing him a favor by knocking him out of the business by our fanaticism.
Is it possible that this extremely shy boy of 10 was forced to go on Star Search? Do any of us believe that young David asked to be on the show? He has admitted that he was forced to sing for Kelly Clarkson.
Are we positive that David wanted to go on Idol?
Do we believe that he wants all this attention now?
Do we actually believe that all this fanaticsm: David will be a superstar, David will change the face of music, David will grow, David will write fabulous songs, and so many other fanatic fans expectations are calming and reassuring to David? I would be freaked if I was 17 and had all these burdens placed on my shoulders. Why can’t we encourage him to finish high school and later worry about songwriting?
Is there a possibility that dad sticks like glue because David cannot find his own way due to his dad’s AND his fans expectations? My gut feeling is that part of David’s stumbling in interviews is in trying to remember what he is supposed to say per dad and fans. If I remember his very early interviews correctly he had a better command of his thoughts.
I feel that the best thing fans can do for David is to convey to him that we are not expecting him to change the world and to convince him that it is ok to be himself and not what any fan nor dad would want him to be. I no longer want to be a fanatic fan because somehow it has taken on a bad connotation.
I would rather see David out of the music business than see him spend his life manipulated by his dad and in constant anxiety and discomfort and fear of not meeting dad’s and fanatic fans expectations.
rena — although I appreciate all views and encourage healthy debate and discussion, I generally favor people staying on-topic, at least to some extent. Since there is nothing in this posting about David’s dad, or about negative press in general, I would prefer if we don’t “go there.”
It is advisable in general to avoid such sites as those you mention. The miscreants who post on those sites get their kicks out of seeing people fail and will go to great lengths to try and poison the atmosphere in an effort to see their general pessimism proven.
I will delete any further discussion here on the topics brought up in rena’s post, so please don’t bother.
rena – As much as I appreciate your concern, I have to say I think you may be taking that Fanatacism to the opposite extreme. You’re pretty much making the most negative assumptions about David’s situation as possible. As silverfoxe stated earlier, I too believe that this is somehow David’s destiny. I really doubt, actually I know, that David is not just some pawn pressured by his dad or anyone else. If there’s one thing I noticed from observing him, with his dad in the same room, is his how unaffected he is by that. Give him some credit! Don’t buy into some media proposed idea about him being forced. I can assure you, he does want this, and I believe he was born to do this. As for your opinion on David’s command of his interviews, I couldn’t disagree with you more. He has become a pretty savvy interviewee, and has only gotten better and better and more self assured. This is one self aware, intelligent, and of course talented young man who (as was pointed out in show 1) ‘just knows what’s best for him!’
Sorry Rascal! Premature a-post-ulation!
#104 rascal: Yes, I agree, let’s pray for David’s personal strength. And I have great faith in him. I am constantly amazed at his graciousness, his patience and his charm dealing with all manner of nonsense with the press and yes, even with his fans. I hope and pray that he can keep that joyful spirit that just knocks me away.
JesseQ: Thanks for posting here! You are a breath of fresh air.
#114 Jesse Q, right on. If you need any added evidence, just take a look at the top picture (still on topic rascal, lol!)
One more thing I think I have to clarify…I will always be one of David’s most dedicated and passionate fans. My loyalty to David does not, and will never have limitations. Whatever path he chooses..musically or otherwise…he will always have my devotion and admiration. His “rise to the top” is not a necessary prerequisite to my love for him, and it never was or will be. Please understand that. I don’t presume to speak for anyone else, but I have the feeling it’s the same for many. I WILL CONTINUE TO BE AN ODD’ER through all the ups & downs…I will worry for his safety & cry when people say harsh things about him. DAVID IS STUCK WITH ME!
Everyone seems to think that David is easily manipulated..because after all, he is only 17..going on 18, and because of his demeaner in his interviews…I think when he’s asked stupid questions, it throws him…his interest is music, ask him anything about music, who he admires in music etc…or his family, he answers intelligently.
AND I AM TELLING YOU…HE’S NOT GOIN’…anywhere but where he was meant to go… UP…it’s his DESTINY! I’ll say it again…maybe not tomorrow or next month, or next year..and maybe a slow & steady climb up that mountain is better and safer…make no mistake…it’s HIS MOUNTAIN to climb…he needs no push or pull. That he had parents who recognized his musical genius was a blessing not only for David, but for us as well.
on an un-serious (IS THAT A WORD?) oh well…I do worry when we gush and fantasize about David ( uh..his hands, lips etc ) that his mom will lock him up till he’s 35 to keep him safe from us even though his dad seems to think we’re “harmless” hahaha!
Thank you Rascal and JesseQ ~ very well said! Like David has said, “Do I seem that whimpy?” LOL! David is growing by leaps and bounds, and I’m learning an awful lot from him myself, tho I’m 3x his age ~ right now I’m learning patience! Thank you, David!
Silverfoxe, I’m right there with ‘ya ~ FOREVER A FAN, NO MATTER WHAT, WHERE, WHEN OR HOW! He had me with “Waiting on the World to Change!” And I’m a very happy camper!
Wow, rena#109, I thought I was a worrywart when it comes to David, but I’m glad I haven’t taken my worries down that dark of a road. Probably because I deliberately avoid anti-David sites like vote for the worst and its ilk. Yes, rascal, I know, don’t “go there.” So, that’s all I’ll say on the subject.
Silverfoxe, your post #106 for the win! That was beautifully expressed, and your reminder of his vocal paralysis as a “test” puts things in larger perspective. I’m willing to believe all this is DESTINY.
I just can’t get why someone thinks David is easily manipulated, I never think in this way. I believe he is very strong in his mind, when he decided, I don’t see who could change him. He is not that outskopen and he is considerate, doesn’t mean he has no stand for his own.
David definitely loves singing, no matter how, he is going to sing. Of course, may not be a grand debut like AI (I still have no conclusion coming from AI is good or not), but no doubt in me, he is going to take music career as his top priority.
When the first time I read the blog, read the word “contented”, I smiled. It reminded me the happiness I had from the last few fans videos or radio interviews. Because I found David is now feeling very comfortable/relaxed with his fans, we are no more strangers, and he could express more himself than before.
I am pretty relaxed after I learnt David performs perfect in a music-related interviews, because it really matters to attract new fans.
As per entertainment’s interviews, David shouldn’t think too much to give an answer, not because the questions are stupid, what they ask are what non-fans care, and what non-fans need, sometimes, are just a second of humor. Considering David’s character, I prefer he is awful to kind of interviews.
I agree with rascal, David may come across as humble and gentle, but he is not naive and he’s very strong. He knows what he wants.
I recommend re-watching that recent fan tribute video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NfM_0g4sqRk
I actually had an unexpected, good cry after watching it. I think I really needed that. I felt sadness about the tour ending, but also the video moved me so much because it reminded me of all the fans I’ve met online these past few months, my emotional highs and lows of following David on the show, my joy in going to two concerts and hanging by the buses, how David has gotten me back into music in general and thinking again about pursuing my dream of studying classical piano. The past eight months have been quite a journey, and I can’t wait to see what next is in store.
#96 – highervibe – thanks so much for posting the link to that video – it is just beautiful!
I can’t begin to be as eloguent as everyone on here, but I want you to know how many hours of pleasure I get reading what you all write – thank you! You express what I feel in my heart AND it is reassuring to know I am not alone in my ODD!
I often wonder what my husband and my son (who is almost twice as old as David) would think if they could see all the David videos, interviews, pictures, music, etc. that I have saved on my computer. Of course, maybe they do understand more than I realize – my son helped me set up an itunes account and my husband gave me an MP4 player for my birthday:)
Well, tomorrow is the day – I cannot wait!!!!
Thanks again to everyone!
Freo, that is a beautiful tribute video. And it was a new beginning after AI. Not only for David, but for us who want the best for him. The really strange thing is, that many of us have sons & daughters and David just came into our lives like a beautiful, perfect bolt of lightening and took a place in our hearts like our own children. Never thought that could happen to me by someone I have never met, just by listening to his VOICE. If he has a mission in his life, that is it..communicate through music.
That he has made so many people reflect and rethink their own life’s journey, and gave them the courage to do what they most likely were meant to do….(fulfilling one’s destiny)…like you Freo & classical music, or
someone else, writing, painting, composing, anything that you had a passion for but were too afraid, or your life took a different path, whatever the reason, if David knew he is responsible for giving you the courage to say, “Yes, I can”, I think he would be very honored. The best tribute you can give him is to follow your dream because he’s following his.
I love hearing things like that, Freo. Thank you.
Hi everyone! Re the pressure David is faced with, I would like to take a cue from his mom, as narrated by Kristi of FOD. According to Kristi, “We talked about how she (Lupe) mises him so much when he is away and she said that he is so busy these days but that he likes it like that because it’s his dream and that he loves what he is doing (underscoring mine).
I also believe that his Faith has a lot to do with how he handles and approaches his current situation. I am not an LDS member so please feel free to correct me on this but I understand that the LDS Church encourages its gifted members to share their talent and put such talent to good use. Mietra, one of his close friends echoes this in an LDS article, “David understands that he has a talent and that his voice affects people. He’s not arrogant about it. He is as humble and thankful to those who help him as you saw on the show. That’s how he really is.”
Lastly, I just need to listen and watch David’s interaction with the fans and how he performs, night after night and it leaves me no doubt that there is joy where he is at.
Fidgeting in interviews and being animated in others in not uncommon with teenagers. And I totally 1000% get the dichotomy of David as a masterclass artist and David as the shy kid from Murray. I am in Marketing and when required, I can present, talk and even sell ice to thousands of Eskimos, so to speak. You would never believe that I am basically, deep down, a shy person. And am already an adult! How much more for a 17-year old?
But David has a strong foundation — the love & support of his family, the acceptance of his community, the adoration of his fans and an innate strength which comes from his heart, soul and will.
Me? I just wish him to be safe and happy.
I forgot to add as my ending — And so far, my wish is being granted
Thank you to hello gorgeous. I agree with much of what you said in your post #99. In it you said things that needed to be said and said by a blog insider.
I, too, worry that David’s fans have too many high expectations along with the expectation that everything should happen NOW. I’ve been in disbelief that the people who run a large David site recently encouraged adults to lie and say they were teenagers just to be able to vote for David to win an award over more established singers. Would David really like to know that his win was partially due to dishonesty by his fans? What if the media had found out and/or considered it worthy of public note?
Although it was nice for David that his single was #1 for a week on iTunes, it has, as was predicted, led to backlash. With the constant push on the above mentioned site to “buy, buy, buy” to get David’s single to #1, it made an inviting target. Because most people are only willing to buy one copy, that led to the almost inevitable sales drop and the inevitable smirking by the haters. And recently that same web site was desperately pleading for fans to buy one more copy to try to increase its sales.
At least in the short term, David may have been badly served by the decision to release Crush as his first single. Maybe it was good in that it proved he could do “contemporary” music, but, predictably, it led to press about his album such as mentioned above by jackryan4DA in #83: “Archie’s is sure to overflow with breathy paeans to young love like his current hit, “Crush.” Cook, who’s working with renowned rock-dude producer Rob Cavallo toward that Green Day-meets-Our Lady Peace sound, can count on mall shoppers popping in to Best Buy.”
As is so common, the reviewer assumed that David can do no better than he’s already done, while Cook is seen as the one with the real promise of originality. I know, there’ll be no undoing the damage done to David’s reputation by this AI season. . . not for years. . . not until David is older, more assertive, and is able to do the “message music” that he wants to do.
More than anything, I wish that David had not done AI. Maybe his youth will allow him the time to separate himself from the show, but the negative labels will continue in the press at least as long as the show survives. I hope above all else that if, in the short term, the teens and tweens who show so little musical appreciation that they like the Jonas brothers’ music as much as David’s have to be catered to with Crush, it’s in the cause of allowing David the opportunity to continue his career long enough to become independent of AI and to find new fans who have never watched AI (or at least season 7) and thus have not had their view of David contaminated by that show and the press surrounding it.
Finally, I’m an American who has been watching Canadian Idol for the first time online, and one of the final two makes me think of what David’s voice and performing abilities may be in 5-6 years time and of how unfair it’s been all through AI and the tour for him to be compared to much older performers. I’m just hoping that in CI the right guy wins next week.
Isabella #126, I’m glad you found my comments helpful, but I guess I haven’t been as worried by “backlash” as you mention. Yes, the “fanatic fans” that Arch Angels represent may seem overzealous, but I believe much of the negativity is really not about the fans as it is about the resentment of American Idol and its dominance over the music industry, something that David Cook’s “rock credibility” (esp. with his collaborations with the likes of Rob Cavallo) seems to transcend.
My theory is that AI/19E has every intention of using both Davids to sell certain brands of American Idol (David Archuleta, who will be used to sell the formulaic pop that people have come to expect from Idol and David Cook, who will be the bridge they’re looking to cross over into musical credibility – the bottom line is David at 17 is simply too young for anyone to take him seriously for the same kind of credibility, which is why it’s great that David is grounded enough to see this and to hope that, while they use his cuteness and talent, he in turn can use them as an open door into the music business).
In the end, I tend to agree with what rascal said a while back: David is young enough to outgrow AI and the current teen image that he has right now. He will grow up, and he definitely has the intelligence to produce music that grows with him.
Clarification: of course, Isabella, if by “backlash” you’re simply referring to those who are all too eager to see David “flop,” then that’s a whole other issue, I guess. My concerns are mostly about David selling, for example, 300,000 albums, which is pretty good for a new artist, but being told that number is a “failure,” since it’s not platinum. You know what I mean? Sure, the haters will be glad to point to any trivial numbers as proof that he’ll quickly fade away. But, if a label has respect for an artist, it will allow a young artist to grow and find his way on the music scene.
If the hate and “backlash” is so intense as to put pressure on a label to cut him loose, then, it’s not his “destiny,” as silverfoxe likes to say, to be in the pop music scene, and he should look elsewhere to make his music. I’ve already determined that, if the music industry is so blind as to not recognize when they’ve got so much promise in someone like David, then the industry deserves to be in the sinking hole it currently finds itself in. Their big problem has always been in creating lousy products and not giving the buying public something it wants to invest their hard-earned money on.
As I’ve said in other posts, “Crush” is a nice and catchy enough song, but it’s beneath David’s talents, and the label could try a little harder. Obviously, the Arch Angels are working harder at promoting David than they seem to be. If the wisdom is that a new artist must have an “uphill climb,” then sure, I can see that backlash will come, if David is seen as having an unfair advantage by starting at the top, rather than climbing there.
HOWEVER, if someone has already been catapulted to the top of the mountain, the ambitious and visionary thing to do is launch him to the moon! Set your goals higher, you know? Sadly, a mediocre industry – such as our current music scene – doesn’t even know how to aim that high anymore. May David get the longevity to show them the way.
Isabella…I respect your opinion and your right to voice your opinion. I do however, would like to address some of your concerns, but before I do, I will stress again that the path David decided to take in auditioning for AI is a moot point. It’s done and regardless of how any us of felt about how he or his family were treated, it’s done. AI was a stepping stone, a start, if you will, for the exposure he wanted. Should he have waited another year or two…maybe but I don’t think so. Anyway, it’s already done. Why are we still going over whether it was a good thing or a bad thing anyway? Also, I don’t see any sign that David’s “reputation” was damaged so I have no idea what you mean?
I do think the push to buy “CRUSH” before it was officially released was premature and we should have waited. I said as much in a previous blog but
I’m not worried about how his album will do. We don’t even know what the rest of the album will be like do we? I feel somewhat unsure about some of what you are saying…that David chose the pop route and “CRUSH” to “cater” to the teens & tweens?? I think you are not giving David enough credit or you have not read some of the previous articles here. David is not anyone’s pawn..he chose AI, he chose to go the POP route, he most likely chose “Crush” as the first single. He knows what he wants and he knows what he’s doing. I’m sure he listens to more experienced advice but ultimately, I think he makes the decisions regarding what paths to take. If David was “contaminated” by AI, he has risen above it based on his performances on the Tour.
And finally…as far as the comparisons to much older performers. Seems to me those comparisons would be an embarrassment to THOSE older performers because David’s VOICE, at 17 is…ahead “by a comfortable mile” of those older performers. And 5-6 years from now…well I can only imagine because there are no words to describe David then.
Maybe I’ve been out of the loop because I choose NOT to visit unfriendly sites. So I don’t know about all the negativity out there about David. I’m not so naive though, to think everyone loves David…and there will always be his detractors. David will prevail and have a long career long after those detractors careers…writers, reporters, other artists, etc. bite the dust. David will have a long-lasting career. Listen once again…it’s HIS DESTINY…maybe not tomorrow, maybe not next week, or next year…maybe slow & steady!
I’m sure by the time I post this, other more prolific posts will emerge before mine and may not agree with me….this is why we are at home here…we can agree to disagree, but one thing we all agree on is our love and devotion to David. We all want him to be safe and happy wherever his journey takes him…we just want to be there for him.
