Angels – Album Version Clip

Well, I know one thing is for certain. I will not be able to be at work when the full versions of this material becomes available. There’s no weeping at work.

follow us:
I have NEVER gotten so emotional over a minute and a half of music before in all my life. This is beyond words for me.
And after listening to it a few more times--I need to say THANK YOU to rascal for sharing these clips of the album that are sending my ODD into absolute overdrive.
rascal, thank you for this -- I am planning to just quit my job NOW. I’m in the process of becoming dead.
I can barely work now….I might as well as take November 11 off. Can’t believe all the news today…solo tour, radio interviews (I listened to two live this morning), another appearance this afternoon….and we have more upcoming weeks!
Freo — SOLO tour?? Where did you see/hear this?
Consider me in critical condition. My ODD has been complicated by acute Archanticipation.
Once again all is happiness and tears in Archuland!!
Thanks for the timely post, Rascal. How much of your writing are you getting done, my friend? Or are you refreshing your browser every 30 seconds like the rest of us ODD sufferers?
So, can we look forward to a new leak every 3-4 days? To build up our anticipation? Is anyone else reminded of the Chinese water torture??
I put Angels up on YouTube as well:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ef5E86cVllg
Rascal, he talks about the solo tour during this interview:
http://www.radiosophie.com/pages/614361.php
Beautiful, just beautiful. My whole body is vibrating in resonance with this! This is what joyful feels like! Thank you, David!
Thanks, Laura, I did finally find that. The DJ was the one who said it, specifically in reference to the contrast between going out “without the other idols,” so I’m not completely convinced that it will actually be a fully solo tour — i.e., as opposed to being an opening act. Would be nice to get confirmation of this.
The first few notes of the Ford Day Angels dissolves me into a puddle every time so I’m almost afraid to listen to this clip when I get home tonight. (Yet it’s KILLING ME to have to wait.)
So much exciting stuff … David, you are the truly the gift that keeps on giving!!!
(And Joner, LOVE your salon story in the previous thread. I’ve often thought we need a secret handshake, or other subtle cue, to alert us to the presence of other ODDers in our midst – nutter butter cologne, maybe?
)
raz, oh my dear good lord… oh my god! stunned! stunning!… oh man, here we go again…. oh my dear good lord!
rascal..NO FAIR!! Do you know how many times I tried to log in?? My hands were shaking so badly..I kept messing up trying to get in here! I’ve been peaking in again cuz I’m so busy, then I see you have a clip of Angels and IT’s NO FAIR cuz I have to wait till I get home to listen!! Two and one half hours..a LIFETIME!! Lord, help me please!!
This Album will go Gold, then Platinum very quickly. What I was thinking will take a few years for David to hit a peak where he can “call all the shots” about what he wants to do, where he want to go..I buh-lieve that time is a-comin’ wayyy sooner than I thought!! CRA-ZEH!! His destiny is being fulfilled at lightening speed!
GO BIG “D”! And I haven’t even heard the clip yet!!
TOfan-I highly advise you to NOT listen at work. Thankfully, I listened when I was at home during lunch and let me just say this: I had a 4 tissue cry -- along with a nose blow…
Does he have any idea ANY idea what he is/has/and will do(ing) to us?
Freo, at Ford Day, didn’t Jeff mention a possible solo tour early in the New Year? I’m pretty sure he did. (Refnaf, ojs759, was I dreaming?)
He hasn’t even whipped out the Tulsa yet in this clip, and we’re already muttering puddles of goo.
The voice, the piano, the slow build—I am in heaven with that Angel. Chills in escalating waves up my spine--I didn’t know you could get chills on the top of your head.
ronaldsf -- Thanks for the link.
ronaldsf -- “muttering puddles of goo.” LOL. I a like being a “muttering puddle of goo!” David this is death by snippet!
Look, I think we all should seriously consider to undertake a coordinated effort to advise the nation’s EMS services to add extra personnel and shifts on November 11th. It’s the responsible thing to do.
ronaldsf: “whipped out the tulsa”!!!!!! I can’t wait.
WHY? WHY? WHY?
I have heard him sing this for what? a million times -- so why am I still crying?
it’s like the other songs, since they are new… felt like a different world. this one- this particular song belonged to a time of making plans & weaving dreams… Then it hit me hard in the solar plexus and drove home the point -HIS DREAM HAS COME TRUE! He is living his dreams. Am so happy for him!
Newflash!

The piano is my most favorite instrument until there was DAVID. But with the first chord chills ran through my whole being.I can’t imagine the whole song and can hardly wait!!!
Thanks Rascal for the snippet of notes.
Yea for Ginger!!!
You did it!!
Rascal
Thank you, thank you for this absolute GEM! Just listening to the first three piano notes, as David whispers…breathes…the first line:
I sit and wait
Does an angel contemplate my fate…
This is the one… I actually feel a physical reaction to listening to this…my heart is pounding in my chest…my hands are shaking as I type…what is with me?
I’m listening to this over and over…closing my eyes with my head in my hands…letting this lushness wash over me..if I could I’d take a bath in it…wow.
Our angel has done it again…Bravo!
Chills!
Wow… I had the very big pleasure of meeting David yesterday here in San Diego. About 18 fans waited outside the radio station where he was doing a brief interview and “lunch”. After the event he made it a point to come out and meet with us (for about 20 minutes) which allowed for many photo opps, autographs and laughs. What a genuinely beautiful human being. As the only male there and 55 to boot, I had a great time interacting with the others and David. He even was singing as he autographed. Angels is one of my favorites but this version has me melting… Thanks!
I’m thinking about all the different versions of this song that David has done. There’s the AI version when I first heard it, there’s the Regis and Kelly show version with just his voice and piano that I listened to obsessively for weeks, there’s the AI tour version that I heard four times, and now at last, a CD version. Oh my, happy day!

Delurking just to say how much I’m looking forward to the album — can we even IMAGINE what the full “Angels” will sound like? No extraneous tour sounds/screams, just David’s amazing voice and the music. Also looking forward to crossing the border to Buffalo — I have my ticket and a couple for my daughters (they don’t know about it yet and I will probably have to entice them by gifting each with their own copy of David’s CD to prep them). Although they love music I don’t think they are focussed on David quite yet.
Rascal — I love this site and thoroughly enjoy both the fun and serious comments by all those here.
Abrra — about Providence -- wonder if Clueless will show up.
Pass the tissue, please.
Angels is the default song in my brain. I love all the versions and wake up singing it without even noticing I am. I am truly excited for him, for all the fans who have worked so hard to bring this dream to reality.
Is it Nov 11 yet. Somebody please fast forward the earth’s rotation !!! Ahhh!!!!
Pass the defibrillator, please.
Group hug please!!!
I’m drunk. On Angels. On ALTNOY. On MH, TMH, and the new interviews. I’m drunk just hearing David’s beautiful voice, and it’s absolute pure bliss.
panamom: (((((HUG!!!)))))
Up to this moment, my day has sucked. Rascal…you just don’t know…THANK-YOU! First happy tears of the day!!!
awww {{{{{{{{{archangel48}}}}}}}}}}
panamom {{{{{{GROUP HUGGG}}}}}}}
((((hugs)))
So can it get better than this? On 11/11 how will we stand it? Good thing we are in this together. How does he
DO this?…
TOfan don’t listen at work!!
Rascal- TOfan was right, Jeff mentoned a solo tour (his words) when we spoke to him at Ford day. I realllly
hope it is solo and not opening!!! Yikes I need this album.
we need issues
and defibrillators
and brownies
Quick!!!
#10 rascal and # 15 TOfan -- I also remeber hearing about Jeff telling someone on Ford Day that a solo tour was upcoming. Rascal, David didn’t deny it in the interview, he just didn’t answer the question. This gives me hope. Please, I want to know now so I can book my airline ticket!
I broke down and listened to this Angel clip (it’s not a new song like the others right?) and I join everyone in a tear-fest. Like JACKRYAN4DA I can’t figure out why I am crying after hearing David sing this song a million times before. I LOVE LOVE the piano in it. I just hope there will be a better balance between his voice and the piano on the final product.
beebee, first hug of the day too! Aaaww…that’s nice. THANKS!
Rascal, as Secretary of Peas & Carrots, might I propose you keep both a fire extinguisher and a defibrillator in house and in plain view? Thank you.
archangel48 You broke my (already compromised) heart! I hope things improve for you today and henceforth.
Y’all think you’re in need of defibrillation? I was there at the studio and got to see David today. And … he remembered me from the tour. And then I come home to THIS “Angels.”
I am all a * puddle*
OhMyGosh, Bianca! I thought about you when I listened to that interview! You GO! So you had a chat with David? Tell us about it.
I too was mezmorized by the first words he breathed of this song. His timing and inflection when he sings is impecable. I have loved this song forever and think of it as his. Way back aways I saw a tribute to Lupe while David sang Angels that had me almost sobbing. I had not thought of mothers as angels until I saw the video.
Thank you Lupe Archuleta for caring for your son so well and being willing to share him with the world. We are very grateful.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YSkwrqA5ISU
bianca: You saw him today! Lucky you! How is it that you are still conscious to even come and post?!
You definitely should be first in line for the defib!
dma: What a beautiful tribute to David’s mom, and perfect for today. Thank you for sharing that. I, too, have loved this song even when R Williams released it, but never cared for his vocals. And I won’t even go there with the J Simpson cover. Yet I still loved the song. David breathed into this song the life and love it deserved.
“Chat” is too strong a word, LOL. But when I got to the head of the line for my autograph (plug here for the auctions at http://www.teamarchie.com/promo because it’s up for auction) he saw me and grinned and said, “Oh, HI!!!” and I said, “You recognize me?!” “Yeah!” As he signed my photo I told him about teamarchie’s auctions for gifting and that Larissa would see him in December, we posed for a pic, I gathered my stuff and left…And he said, “Oh, nice seeing you again!” And I went home to die.
And I’ll throw my Angels mess into the mix…I would listen to his youtube with all the screaming going on…on repeat…that seems like years ago now. When he sang it on the show I began a freakout that lasted well over 2 weeks (remember rascal?) and so now, this beautiful bit of brilliance has me literally beside myself.
Hey beebs -- *THUD*
Pass the defibrillator… David mentions in this interview today that his solo tour begins in January!
http://www.radiosophie.com/topic/play_window.php?audioType=Episode&audioId=3001368&topic=true
Bianca Awww! He remembered you. What a DOLL.
refnaf, here. (Pass it to Josie when you’re done.)
http://img.alibaba.com/photo/11472490/Defibrillator_Hellige_Germany_Armed_Forces_Execution.jpg
Hmmm- I made the brownies for the group. I put the calming chamomile tea on and accidentally on purpose spiked the milk with some valium for those who need something a little stronger as they wait for the album and solo tour…trying to be helpful and happy at the same time….
Josie and Refnaf, I took your advice, though it was TORTURE. And one note, one note was all it took and I dissolved. I had just pulled myself together then realized, “Angels” — this is for all of us… dang it, I’m done….
Ooohhh! It’s so nice coming here to a hug (thanks Beebee, love your hyber hugs), brownies and some herb tea.
This afternoon I had just finished a meeting and had some time to kill before the next, so I stopped at an internet cafe to check my email (just my email I promise!!), but could not resist to peek in Rascal’s house.
Can you see myself in this cafe, surrounded by strangers!! Ahh!! I wanted to scream: People, it’s David, it’s Angels, hellooooo!!
Then I thought twice. I remembered somebody mentioning something about a restraining jacket and I had to breath deep. I got back into my car and sang Angels all the way, aaaaall the way, again and again.
Beebee: You see why I needed that group hug.
How can you exist and not know DA!! hahaha
Yep, Jeff definitely said that David would likely do a tour (he mentioned January). I was not sure if he meant a solo tour or not, but he did say David would be touring.
For any of you in the Columbus area, David is *performing at a high school football game* on Friday night.
sorry meant to say cyber hugs not hyber hugs
Maybe my hands wanted to type hyper hugs
I know our health can’t take this, but… watch this (through 3:20 or so it’s just music and camera ON DAVID, so it’s extra uber fun with sound OFF)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eQ2psVtGWSY&feature=user
(this is just part two of a FOUR PART vid set… can you take it? It’s Seattle interview, btw)
(And don’t these people know that when David Archuleta’s in the House there’s no need to point the dang camera at anything BUT *His Holy Adorableness*? Sheesh.)
Dead
I guess I need the whole shebang -- defib, brownies, chamomile tea and heck the valuim too. Wait, no on the valium, it might hit me like a ton of bricks and then I wouldn’t be able to archu-spazz…I must be able to spazz a little…
TOfan-toldja -- it’s a good one this rendition of Angels…you ok now?
beebeecava -- I heart you
Bianca-have you undied yet? David is simply the nicest, sweetest earthling ever. So glad he remembered you, but I can see why he would -- your shirt creation is a masterpiece!
Quick, juliebug needs the defib.
Josie, did you make it home or have to stop at the ER on the way? I had to step away from the computer finally to gather up some semblance of normality after today, starting with watching David in Seattle this morning. I think I was stuck to the chair in some kind of wierd time-space-David-adorableness-continuum.
I want to add that he also sang Angels at home in Murray on David Day and I was about 25 feet away. I just was not expecting something new and something so glorious in the latest version.
Hey, I’ve got an idea -- maybe he can work up a different version of Angels on every one of his albums. Worth considering.
beebee… i think josie is ok … i’m passing it to juliebug instead
Hi archu_ -- I’ve had this on repeat now for over an hour. And although I want to stay put righthereinmychairandoverloadonangels, really I must go eat something. Guess first I should actually make some dinner.
Off I go! Hugs all you angels.
Josie -- I’ll talk to Brett about those funeral arrangments
Thank you archu_ really, it’s the least David could do, seeing as it’s his fault I’m in this state.
going to eat now!
lol… Panamom… they could be a little bit *hyber* and *hyper* too.
I couldn’t go through any of this excitement in public…lol. No. WAY.
JOSIE You must keep your health up, dahlink. Go eat. I heart you to pieces!
Juliebug still daid?
Hi everyone..just listened to one of the most moving 90 seconds I’ve ever heard, ever…Thought nothing could surpass the moving first performance of IMAGINE by David, but this comes pretty dang close..And may just top it when he sings this version when he goes on his SOLO TOUR!!!! So I wonder..who’s going to “open” for him..uh..maybe the JB’s or uh, Miley, nah! Chris Brown? And I’m sure there’s a few “idols” who would be a good opening act for DAVID, THE VOICE, THE MAGIC MAN!!
rascal..your DREAM..it seems to be coming true, cuz surely YOU WILL be attending his SOLO concert!! Can you buh-lieve it? A SOLO concert and after just one album that hasn’t even been released and there’s a SOLO concert in the works!! I’m dizzy & shaky jus’ thinkin’ about it!
hmmm… opening acts for David Archuleta…
(no… I won’t say it…) lol
treat yourself to about 15 minutes of ridiculous laughter…his cuteness is beyond, beyond, beyond….
today’s interview in Seattle…

panamom … juliebug has the defib….. juliebugggg….
A miracle! I’mmmmm allllliiiiiive! Was busy downloading everything before they go poof. And my internet connection is being a butt tonight. Storms overhead.
But now I’m hungry. Being dead takes a lot of ya. And David is a full time.
One thing before I go fix my mom dinner….David will NOT be getting the endorsement dollars from Arby’s. hahahahaha!
er….David is a full time JOB… supposed to say. (blush) That was a faux pas, huh? tee hee
Panamom -- the defib is yours sweetie…
Oh my gosh! Wow, how do I even begin to talk about this. What a treat coming home from work!
This has been a really long day. So many things going on, as we prepare for budget cuts and the like, and on top of these worries, I left work with tragic news that one of our students, who was shot last night while hanging out in the downtown area of our city, died today. Ugh! That really hurt my heart.
So, as is typical with my routine when I get home, after eating, after winding down, I go online, check my email and check NotingDavid, and what awaits me? A new audio clip, this time of David singing “Angels.” I needed to hear his voice. And I’m just a gooey mess right now.
Thank you, rascal, for sharing the joy and helping David’s “heart connection” with us. *sniffle.*
HG big (((((hugs)))) …”angels ” is just what you needed, right when you. needed it
HG, I am so sorry you lost a student today. {{{hug}}} Your poor heart. I know Hearing the Angels snippet is a comfort, but… oh just {{{hug}}}
Wow.
HG: I am really sorry to hear about your student. Truly.
to think there is a family without their son tonight. Hugs to you from abroad.
hello gorgeous, I send you all my warmest thoughts and blessings.
HG-I’m so sorry to hear about your student. Sending hugs. I do hope this bit of Angels helps in some small way.
Thanks, everyone, for your well wishes. You guys are awesome, and I’m very much loving this version of Angels, which is a comfort.
Just checking in after watching the wonderful San Diego interview. HG, more hugs to you, if you need some comfort, that might help.
Friends -- I am struck by the enormous gulf between those that get David, and the media. Was anyone else uncomfortable, annoyed or just dismayed at the dismal interviews in Seattle and Sacramento? The interviewers seemed to genuinely appreciate David, but the questions were lame, focusing on the old tired issues of girlfriends and his dad. It was also just plain weird that he was being videotaped in Seattle without being told. Come on guys!
When David is asked intelligent questions about his music he positively glows – the ET interviews and the myFox DC 9 minute rambling interview come to mind.
Sigh……
HG..I was saddened that you have to go through the experience of losing a young person who was a part of your life in a most violent way. Unfortunately, stories like yours are all too common. The song that made me think about your student and the horrible waste of a young life is a song David sang is “You’re The Voice”, a kind of message song that he so loves to sing..and the judges did not like.
BTW..on FOD, they have added a new feature, “Pre-Album Player” which has EVERY song David has ever sung, I mean every song…It is great!
HG- I am sorry for your loss, my prayers for all affected by this tragedy…goodnight all….
Back to say g’nite all..
And David..Muchas gracias for sharing your beautiful music with us..Sweet dreams, be safe & secure in our love for you always..Contigo siempre con amor!
Yes, I am tired of the lame questions, too. Some fans are mentioning that he mentioned going on a date…? I must have missed something, because I did not hear that.
HG -- sending prayers and hugs -- so sorry about the tragic loss of one of your students.
Oh HG, I’m **so** sorry to hear that. I can’t help but think of the Kelly Rowland “Stole” video that was in David’s old chrianyday favorites. I’m sure his big ol’ heart would be enveloping you, the student, and the family right now. What good timing for that Angel clip to find its way to you today! Comfort to your heart.
And about that Angels clip… I’ve just plain run out of superlatives. I’m just… just… just… gone. Yes, I think “POOF” works for me tonight! Hm, “Works for Me” … can I add that to the leak request line?
Freo and davidfanLIZ -- I agree about the interview questions. It’s true that David gets a little tongue tied with the blah questions about girlfriends, etc. I don’t know why these interviewers don’t get it, that it will be a much more interesting and fun interview if they ask him about MUSIC! Gosh! Why don’t they ask him about “Crush” (what drew you to the song? Are you happy with its success? Do you plan to play piano when you perform it?). Why don’t they ask him about his diverse musical interests? (what draws you to Alanis Morrissette’s “Uninvited”? It’s a haunting song and you always seem so positive…what drew you to gospel music?) There are so many more interesting topics which can be discussed besides dating and his rivalry with David Cook, sheesh!
oops one more thought…anyone else find it interesting when David discussed AI being “Reality TV”? To me, he was basically confirming the whole season’s manipulation with his vague comments about the new judge…
I am totally loving this version of Angels.. David never dissapoints us does he.
Totally off topic and not wanting to start anything but has anyone seen this e-mail from itunes.
New Music Tuesday email from iTunes:
“The Battle of the Davids” was one of American Idol’s fiercest competitions ever, as David Cook ultimately outlasted his younger competitor to win it all. With his self-titled debut, the rock-oriented vocalist is out to prove that viewers made the right choice. Pre-order the album on iTunes and get the pre-order-only track “My Last Request” when the album is released on November 18 and the single “Light On” will begin to download immediately.
This makes me very sad I really like David Cook and I am planning on buying his album but why does his label need to put out something like this?
Am playing catch up today here… work has been toxic
BUT impt things 1st {{{{HG}}}}} hugs to you my sweet. I feel your pain so well. Aside from being a widow, I lost 4 friends before I even hit my 40′s -- am 46 now: 2 to cancer, 1 suicide & 1 plane crash. Losing -- of any kind -- gives a whole new perspective in life, right?
And leaking ANGEL came at the most opportune moment. Dang serendipity!
NEXT -- welcome to all the newbies and/or those 1st time/long time(read: long time lurkers who finally came out)! Enjoy the roller coaster ride here. From the sublime insights of our host, rascal, and a whole bunch of Archies to the adorable inanities and supreme silliness of the same whole bunch! Never gets boring here
Back to catching up b4 my lunchbreak ends… CYL everyone!
Oh I know I said CYL,but I have to reply to gemzone:
Me thinks a certain franchise is quivering in their boots! That after all their shenanigans… the one they threw under the bus still triumphs in the end and where/when it really matters — in the hearts & minds of a progressively growing cynical market awakening to a much needed breath of fresh air.
After reading such press release, anyone here still think they passed-up The Archuleta? Hah, they pooped on their own agenda and killed their option. Just my 2-cents worth of theory…
LittleMushroom -- great interview question ideas. I love the thought of treating David as an artist who has opinions and stories about his song choices.
Thank you davidfan! I just think there are so many more interesting things to ask him…
jackryan- I don’t think for a minute they passed on Archuleta. I think they screwed up by doing what they did to him during the season. and assuming they would get him anyway. However, in doing so they showed their true colors. Simon’s snide comments when he was last asked about David prove this I think -- if they “passed” on him, why would Simon get huffy and bristle at his name? ha! archie will have the last laugh!
night, all!
Boy, I am a blubbering mess tonight because of Angels. But before I go on, HG, violence is a terrible thing and can have such a horrible effect on those that came close to it, even indirectly, so BIG HUGS from me too.
I’ve been having some pretty tough time at work lately and at some point I noticed I only had energy to visit but not to comment as much, except for when beebee and Joner were making me laugh on Sunday with all the spazzing. This is a wonderful place to come to. Never did I ever think I’d come hang around every single day (multiple times a day work permitting!) with a whole bunch of wonderful and interesting people in cyberspace of all places! Thank you rascal!! You are the best.
Including Angels in David’s first album is ingenious. No doubt the song means a whole lot to David too and he really knows what his fans want.
littlemushroom, I love your question ideas. We would love to know the whys for his fave song choices. I was completely stunned that he said in one of the interviews today I think, that trying to come up with his 100 favorite songs (100!!), he ended up with 200!!! Music really is his life. And I am pretty sure David himself said “solo tour” in one of the many interviews I heard today, but I’d have to go back and relisten.
HG -- So sorry to hear of your loss. I am thinking of you today and will keep you and this family in my prayers.
“He hasn’t even whipped out the Tulsa yet in this clip, and we’re already muttering puddles of goo.”
Oh I love the way you said this ronaldsf! And I think you may have coined a new phrase in Archuletaland.
Brilliant!
littlemushroom: loved your questions. I think you are hired!!
I would also like to know:
1. what does he do to remember so many names and faces of all his fans?
2. how is school going?
3. how does he manage going to church on Sundays? Does he go?
4. when does he plan to record in Spanish?
5. how does it make him feel to know he also has international fans? how about an international tour?
6. where does he draw his inspiration to write music?
7. what inspires him to change his songs again and again every time?
well, I could go on and on.
Jackryan4DA: your comments are always so insightful. Hugs for you too.
well, buenas noches to you all.
HG, I am so sorry about the loss of your student. I truly do know what you are feeling. Back in the late 1980s, I was a young girl just out of college and excited to have my first teaching job. About a month into the job, one of my student’s committed suicide. It was a devastating experience for me, and life changing as well. My heart hurts for you tonight, and I offer my heart felt sympathy to you and the family of your student.
We are so lucky to have the technology today to be able to come to a place like this and be amongst friends who can offer us love and sympathy when we need it.
I must say that the tears are streaming down my face as I have listened to this version of Angels many times tonight. My goodness, I am overwhelmed! There really are no words to describe what this small snippet has done for me tonight! I think I will always love you, David Archuleta. You just have this uncanny ability to bring joy and sunshine with you wherever you go. This dark world is a better place when your light shines!
Hey. Daisy here and I’m a neophyte (at least here). I’m a little bit shy. Oh…I’ve been lurking for like 2 months now and I just gathered my strength to do this today. (Oh no…why am I sobbing?)
The first and foremost thing you need to know about me: I’m sick and I refuse to be cured. I have ODD. Oh…do anyone of you know what it means? I guess not. (I’m a jerk,)
NEW FAN MAIL ADDRESS(posted at archuletafanscene):
“…For those that have been wondering where to write a letter or send him that gift you have always wanted to send but didn’t know here. This is it.
DAVID ARCHULETA
c/o Azoff Music Mgmt
1100 Glendon Ave. Suite 2000
Los Angeles, CA 90024″
Thanks again, everyone! And Lucky Angel, thank you for sharing your teaching experience. It’s just awful when we have young people die so violently (our student was only 18).
I let David’s voice put me to sleep early, but then woke up after an ugly nightmare. I think you’ll all appreciate this. I was with a group of my faculty colleagues and students; we were touring some industrial complex facility, and next thing you know, the emergency alarms go off because of some nuclear reactors that threatened to blow us up to kingdom come! We simply couldn’t find the exit from the building. Eventually, we resigned to just staying put and meeting our inevitable end and so found a movie theater. There we were watching a Peanuts cartoon of all things, and -- on the soundtrack -- is a song (unidentifiable) being sung by David Archuleta (whose voice was identifiable). Next thing we see, clear as day, an Exit sign in the theater. We all dashed for it, and ran for our lives. And in the distance, we heard this incredibly loud explosion.
And then I woke up.
This is becoming a pattern: when in crisis mode, somehow David will lead me to safety. Projection much?
On another topic, gemzone, do you remember if Jive put out any similar language to promote David? No? Okay, then. This just proves my point that Cook’s win was a cynical one. This kind of language, on the part of RCA, is a main reason why they are just damn lucky their idol winners can sell records just on the basis of their Idol popularity, because when it comes to selling music, they haven’t a clue! This also makes me question the recent interview Cook did when he dropped David’s name just to talk about his upcoming music video (and in the process poked fun at David’s shyness and awkwardness around girls).
Not to start any fanwars, but all of a sudden, the marketing of Cook is rubbing me the wrong way. But, I’m in a bad mood, so take what I say with a grain of salt.
Okay, off to some spirit lifting with David’s music playing privately in the wee hours of the morning.
Oh…I mean, does anyone of you know what it means? I told you…I’m a jerk.
What does what mean? ODD?
“Obsessive David Disorder.”
I finally checked out the Seattle in-studio interview!
ROFLMAO…especially over part 2:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eQ2psVtGWSY
The head bopping to Pink, his freaking out over hearing his recorded laughter…David, you are absolutely precious!
GOSH! Where do I start?
First off: Daisy! Welcome to rascal’s! Don’t be scared. Don’t be shy. We’re all in the same ODD boat, here. (My personal motto: “We’re All Bozos On This Bus”) Were you serious about what ODD means? As in what’s the acronym for? Obsessive David Disorder. There. As I like to say, “Hello, my name is beebee and I have ODD (oh, hurt me)” There is no cure, so you have nothing to worry about. Oh, and Happy will be around soon to serve you crumpets and brownies. (Rascal, what do you pay her for that, anyway? She’s worth every penny!)
‘Shroom I LOVE your questions, and panamom yours, too. There are so many great things for him to ramble on about that I’d LOVE to hear. (‘course, I also love to hear him ramble on about
picking um, scratching his nose, too — but that’s just me…lol) I think we need to write David a handbook for these mostly ridiculous so-called interviews (like he really needs our help). It would be fun to write it, though (TOGETHER) to make him laugh (I’m in love with his adorable sense of humor) and assure him we’re already well aware of the correct answers to the only three questions they ever ask him…over and over and over and … Maybe we could give him some new answers to throw at them…lol… just to shake things up a little. Then we could use the nifty new ADDRESS that JackRyan just gave us. (I heart you JackRyan!)Also ‘Shroom, I hear you gnashing your teeth over stoopie ole AI. I want to tell you to let it go, but I feel it too. It’s recurrent for me like… allergies…lol. So… alllls I’m saying is… I hear ya. Which brings me to gemzone and Hello Gorgeous — I hear YOU, TOO! That iTunes email gave me some seious *willies*. Cuh-REEPY. I have started to write (and worse, post) several raging rants… but I find that really I have no need with you around to do it so much more eloquently. It’s downright satisfying. Thank you! All I can possibly add is “*Pffhttpffftthtt!*” (lol… that felt good. And if I had a spitball handy I might… oh nevermind.)
Vermeer I am sorry you’re having work stresses. {{{hug}}} As silly as I am I sometimes (I swear somebody’s spiking my coffee with… gawd I wish I KNEW what!) I have to confess, ever since this “Angels” snippet broke… really I’ve been teetering on the edge of tears continually. I am kidding not one nanobit here. I am so deeply moved all the time by David. But this just pushed me … further than I thought possible. Have no idea what to do with it. Just be. I guess.
Hello Gorgeous (whoa you might even be awake for this! Go to bed lil missy!) I just wanted to add… that dream… gah. You have great dreams. Thanks for letting us in on them. Funny, for the past several years I’ve not remembered my dreams (there are years when the come fast and furious and I DO remember them). They say we HAVE them, regardless of whether we remember them. I’d love to remember some now, because I’m sure they’re fraught with David.
I did have one dream a week or so ago that I (obviously) remembered that was outrageously vivid, but it was not a David dream. (dang) It was a kind, sweet, loving one tho… so THAT’s good.)
And HG, one more thing… YES, I’ve been giddy over the Seattle Videos ALL DAY! And that Part 2 Chair Bounce Boppin’ is just to freaking DIE FOR!
Alllllrighty then… I think I’m done now. It’s 2am. Perhaps I’ll go to bed. ::::dragging defibrillator behind self:::: *nitey nite!*
LMAO! *oopsie* nitey nite!
lololol… i gotta go to bed… but I’m laffin so hard… LOL. Dang html code. (HATE when that happens…) nite!
Haven’t had time to catch up on everyone’s comments. I stumbled on Part 2 of that Seattle radio interview and watched David bopping away, too! LOL
Was the video out of sync, or was David basically improvising vocal parts throughout the whole song? At around 2:23, it looks like he shakes his head “no, that didn’t turn out right,” then he tries another idea and starts bopping again!
How can you not love him!
Well AI & Cook can’t help drag our David’s name in interviews & PRs, no matter how random. You know why? Cook was in Blender, and he mentioned that the most famous person he knows is still David Archuleta. See 7th paragraph, bout 3/4 way down the page.
http://img387.imageshack.us/img387/9621/page4ju7.jpg
Of course… of course…
Am jackryan and a certified ODD, daisylife
Perhaps we should make an official list of ODD symptoms… I vote for Silver to start! That’s because I miss u today!
O ronalsf I was LMAO when David went on and on about the nose business such that the DJ had to tell him to relax!!!! That was so funny! And dorky… and adorable… sigh!
beebee-I skipped over much of that post up there because I thought you didn’t mean for us to read it with all the lines through your text! You really are a silly goose.
Welcome daisy_life -- glad you de-lurked, but no one is considered a jerk around here, so be nice to yourself, please
I am clearly going into mega-ODD drive -- I woke up at 2:00 am and snuck out to the living room to listen to Angels for at least 20 minutes…gosh, I’m kinda pooped right now…It’s gonna be a long couple of weeks…
122 Josie, I too have the middle of the night ODD! For those of you awake, below is a link to a hilariously cute a photo featuring David. I found this on Idol Forums.
http://i34.tinypic.com/2zp09sg.jpg
Interesting article mentioning David.
“Nigerian Songwriter/Producer Dapo Torimiro ”Quickly” Breaks Onto the R&B/Pop Music Scene With Hot New Songs for John Legend, Brandy and David Archuleta”

A couple comments…
RE Lame interview questions: I’m afraid these will never diminish. Reporters, DJs, and show hosts who don’t have the interest or expertise to talk about substantive topics will always default to their standard celebrity interview questions. It’s lazy and stupid, but then you’ll never go broke betting against intelligence in the media. The reason we are so sensitive to it all of a sudden is because David feels like family to us. Our empathy is in overdrive. But the truth is that he is not being treated any differently than anyone else in his position.
The thing that interests me about these questions, from a kind of cultural standpoint, is how we’ve come to allow and expect such personal topics to be standard fare for successful performers, when no one else of renown is subjected to this. Fine artists, technology company impresarios, business leaders, design professionals — it would feel utterly impertinent to ask such questions of these people. Why are performing artists the exception?
RE RCA’s promo copy: I agree with HG and others on this unfortunate ploy, but it hurts Cook much more than Archie. Even if it’s just a case of a clueless copywriter, it nevertheless conveys “no confidence” in Cook’s ability to attract interest without the Idol reference and the inane perpetuation of a manufactured rivalry. Jive has wisely, at least so far, staunchly avoided the reference. And I’ll just say this: Had our boy won, it would not have been as easy--perhaps even impossible--to have avoided the references in his own marketing. Yet more proof that the “loss” was a blessing.
- it’s all about the voice. He has really phenomonal studio musicians here, though, and it makes a difference. This sounds beautiful and he deserves nothing less.
Thanks, Rascal for unearthing this. My head is on right now for the rest of the day.
Oh! Rascal, how I like your writings. Check mark in everything you said:
‘David feels like family to us.’ YES
‘Our empathy is in overdrive.’ SI, SI
‘Why are performing artists the exception?’ NO CLUE EITHER
‘..conveys “no confidence” in Cook’s ability to attract interest’ TOTALLY
Certainly, Cook will get no respect from serious fans is he bases his marketing campaign on AI and him defeating David. But, I do have better and more important things to do than to pay attention to RCA strategy (if you can call that a strategy).
Daisy_life: I am panamom and I have chronic ODD.
HG: your dream…what can I say, seems David is so carved in his fans’ hearts that in the midst of tribulation, he seems to provide solace, an opened door, some light, and desperate needed hope, EVEN IN DREAMS.
David has a lot more than music to share with the world.
jackryan4DA #120: I want to play too!!
David being David would most likely want Cook’s album to be a huge success. Remember, he loves Cook, so it would most likely make our David somewhat uncomfortable if Cook’s album doesn’t do as well (and his own album sell better than his). I could be totally off base, but I’m just thinking out loud.
Panamom, David has seeped into my subconscious -- what can I say? It’s great that, whenever he shows up, it means I’ll be okay.
Rascal, I totally agree that this marketing shows “no confidence” in Cook, but I do believe this is less about Cook’s abilities and more about RCA’s failure of the imagination.
Speaking of failure of the imagination, you are so spot on with the media’s repetitive interview questions. I do like the idea of putting together a manual of ready-made answers (and some clever curve balls) to give to David!
Ebonyangel, thanks for that latest article. So “Running” might have some interesting R&B/world music sound, huh? Can’t wait.
I’m just loving how Jive hooked up our David with a diverse range of producers. Way cool!
This version of ‘Angels’ is like being able to hold David’s soul in your very hands. It’s so tender and sweet and powerful that it’s almost painful to listen to. Of course, that hasn’t stopped me from listening to it about a hundred times so far. ‘Exquisite’ just sounds trite in regards to this masterpiece. It falls so short of the mark.
Josie! (Hi, dear. Long time admirer here.) Question for ya. How do you make the song loop, continually replay?
BTW, want to know how sorry I feel for myself? Try this. I had planned to go to Seattle and visit the radio station with Bianca, but I couldn’t after all. The ONLY day the specialist in Portland could see my handicapped daughter for her yearly checkup between now and the end of the year was the SAME day David was in Seattle. Arghh. I couldn’t justify putting it off and then flying her in the middle of the winter. So…I sacrificed, did the right thing and went to Portland. * sniff * I woulda been glued to Bianca and Maria and have gotten in to see David. But I didn’t. Bah, humbug! That hurts.
Bianca was a friend and reminded me of a David-ism: “It happened, so it was meant to be.” I’m still trying to convince myself on that one. It’s not going down so easily this time. * sniff *
OMG, OMG, OMG, David’s voice is so pure and beautiful x 1000. Its only 1.33 min of it and I am already in heaven with the Angels! What will become of me when I hear the full version? I shuddered to think of what would happen to me then. All these “leaks” is killing me softly.
Thanks, Rascal, for this clip.
HG -- yes, yes, yes, let’s brainstorm on some answers to inane interview questions, especially since, as rascal pointed out, they aren’t going to go away.
Two questions to get us started: Do you have a girlfriend? How are you going to spend your money?
Can you imagine these questions being asked of a writer or symphony musician or visual artist?
ronaldsf #7, I have only heard of JAPANESE water torture used on the captured’s during the Second World War.
Bookaholic, don’t feel too badly about having to miss David to take care of your daughter. David would be the first to tell you that you did the right thing. You might even write him a personal note, now that we’ve gotten a fan mail address -- thanks, Jackryan!
OK, LIZ, some possible *ready-made* answers:
Q1 -- Do you have a girlfriend?
Ans. -- Well, I have lots of friends, and some of them are girls (followed by his infectious laugh).
Q2 -- How are you going to spend your money?
Ans. -- Well, after helping out the homeless and the hungry, if I have any left over, I might contribute money for a really good workshop that helps journalists learn how to ask better interview questions (followed by his infectious laugh).
Hey just a little info on Crush it sold over 56000 last week and has now sold altogether 750,012 copies. Woot Woot!!!

HG: I am sorry to hear of the tragedy at your college. Loss, especially of a young life, is heartbreaking. Whenever I hear of such a loss, it makes me gather my loved ones closer and smell the roses more deeply. My thoughts and warm regard to you and your students and colleagues.
Re: iTunes Marketing Message.
I am so appreciative of all the positive words and focus Cook gave to David this past year. He could have easily distanced himself and been polite to him but obviously he has ODD too--at least he gets to see David regularly, is sharing a unique experience (AI, tour & album) and he GETS to SEE David and text him regularly. I’ve actually read Cook fan comments that say Cook needs to stop acknowledging David or making comments about him.
I am thinking initial sales may come down to the difference in fan bases besides the music genre in that, in general, one fanbase is looking for a talented, polished performer to wow them; the other fan base is looking for a voice that speaks to what they hold most dear. We have supported David as a performer as he progresses in the growth stage of polishing his performance skills--this is one of the more fabulous things in being a David fan--watching his potential unfold--a gift that we will be opening over the years.
Re: The Interviews
The Interviews (quick pinky relfex today)
I enjoyed everyone and watched the Seattle one twice. I think David is having a blast. The interviewers obviously like/adore him and he is not like the artists they usually interview. I think David is handling the questions easily now and expects them.
He is so concrete, black and white is so many answers (didn’t ya love the nose picking dialogue) and when he talks of music, that concreteness disappears and the universe opens up and swallows you as follow David into his world. So, like all of you, I want to fast forward to the day he will have interviews that explore his world more fully rather than the top 5 shallow questions that interviewers seem to think we want answered.
Just again read #99 and #112 and the rest. This whole thing made me very sad and angry last night, to see it right after I’d finished LOVING & rating Angels on ratethemusic.com.
When I saw Cook’s single at #97 on iTunes on Monday, I’d wondered what the RCA people were going to do if it dropped off the top 100 as it looked like doing since it’d been dropping like a rock while Crush has been steady at 12-16.
Now I see how they’re going to manipulate this for “their winner”. I find it hard to believe that anyone who supports David would now still buy Cook’s album after learning about this scheming. No, it’s not Cook’s fault, and he’s already sold his soul (and control), but when I saw fans agonizing about it on another board, I wanted to say to them: please don’t reward this corporate manipulation.
Anyway, I think that, as someone put it on another board, David deserves more respect than to be used and put down in order to promote Cook, as in the quote from #99. However, I do find it funny that even in that statement, Cook’s own label betrays its lack of confidence in Cook by noting that the album will “prove that viewers made the right choice.” Prove?
Well, RCA fired me up, at least. I immediately went over to WalMart.com and pre-ordered David’s CD.
#139 silverfox.. yes, it’s a good site for lurking… especially when u are tired to die. Reading the comment just let you relax.
I have a long WEEK, work from 9am to10pm. It’s the second week I am travelling (after have a short weekend back to my home), and I miss my bed!!!
I have to thank internet soooooo much which I could read David’s news, and the iPod, and the iPod travelling speaker, which I could hear David!!!
Angels -- demo -- can’t stop listening, chills keep racing up my spine and out the top of my head; seriously, this is freakin’ aMAZing! Soon I am going to be one GIGANTIC CHILLY BUMP!
I am thinking of taking Rascal’s advice and notify my County Emergency Management Agency about Nov 11th. Don’t think local ERs or ambulance teams will be able to handle!
Don’t think I need the defibrillator -- my heart is swelling with joy with every listen of Angels; however, my lungs seem stuck on inhale so maybe I need a respirator--LOL
HG and bee bee…Oh wait…I have to gather myself first. You got me guys laughing and laughing. I had to stop though ‘coz I might wake my pals up here. You know it’s almost midnight here. (Oh, did I mention I’m a Filipino?) So, that’s why I’m a little bit shy.
Okay…(HG and bee bee) Were you serious or what? I’m so sorry to confuse you. I’m not really comic, am I? (Oh no, I did it again.) Of course I know what it means and of course I’m serious about it. Fiercely. In fact, I and a Filipina nurse in Atlanta are planning a promotional activity for David here in our city. So we’re coordinating. My ODD is that severe I feel I have to do something good for my fellow Filipinos even so I don’t have the means to. I just got to. David made me realize that.
Thank you for the warm welcome. Rascal and all of you amusing people, you have been educating me for like three or two months now. So please…don’t falter.
Hi #145 Isabel… I am OK with that promotion, nearly 6 months from the finale, they could still sell by that? If that make them proud, let go.
“Light On” is not a bad song, I have downloaded (coz I get enough points to download free from my hometown music site). I listened quite over 10 times (the CD play looply when I drive), honestly, it’s a OK-good song.
My concern is, if it’s not David Cook, I will be NO interest to this song (not because I love cook, just a support for my love David’s big brother). It can’t initate any motivation to BUY.
Us, already knew what’s in David’s album, and I am confident now. Hope Cook has good material as well as David, and he NEED good promotion, focus on MUSIC.
HG, just read your post about the death of one of your students, so very sorry for what happened. It must be a tough day for you. My thoughts and warmest love with you and his loved ones.
Thank you to every one for the great news and links on David. I think I am going to call it a day and continue reading the wonderful contributions tomorrow. Good night !
Oh…I have to go. I’ll check you guys tomorrow.
I pretty hope I’ll be dreaming of David to night. La-la-la-la-la…whatever.
Mwah for everybody.
daisy_life, everyone is pretty serious here about our O.D.D. (and sometimes not so serious). It’s all good! Welcome!
Isabella, not to worry. I had no plans to buy Cook’s album, because I’m just not interested. I didn’t even realize Cook’s second single was in a hole. Now their desperate ploy makes sense (but it’s still a definite turn off).
I mean, don’t get me wrong. I know David loves Cook and is going to support him, which is cool, but I don’t have to show the love to anyone else but my David.
Now that RCA has pretty much declared a “fan war”… IT’S ON!
So many adorkable (thanks, HG) moments in the Seattle interview, but what really intrigued me was that TMH was based on things David actually said during recording.
“Like what?” was the obvious follow-up question, DJs!!! Saw “who” from the stage? Something about “whose” beautiful face??? Can’t wait for THAT interview.
Then, on the San Diego call-in, LOVED that glimmer of an Archattitude when he talked about people wanting to know too much about his life: “It’s like, sorry, you don’t get to know that.” Snap, snap, GO, David!
Back to work…just wanted to quickly say….what great interviews today!
I haven’t been able to listen to them all in their entirety yet…will have to wait until tonight.
But, classic, CLASSIC David….LOL!
DJ: Did you get an education on the tour bus? (wink wink nudge nudge)
David: It was summer.
ROFL!!!!!
David, please keep your innocence for as long as possible. OK, Love? Thanks…
HG, soooo sorry to hear about the death of such a young life. Heartfelt prayers to you and his loved ones. Life is already too short! As for Mr. Cook… I don’t believe all he’s saying is programmed by RCA, as some have stated. He made the comment that David A. would be his lead choice in his video, which would include being surrounded by many women. Then he proceeds to “tease” our David about how uncomfortable that would make him.( I still believe there is some underlying jab in this statement). I saw some recent pics of David A. with many “women” at FOD. He seems VERY at ease! (Quite comfortable, if not, flirtatious his own self)! I loved it! There seriously is NO-WAY for RCA to fix the impossible. David Cook is just NOT David Archuleta! GO BIG D!!!
ebonyangel -- hahahahah that pic is huh-lar-i-OUS ! Thanks for that find!
rascal -- hum, right, celebrities in less entertainment-oriented fields are not asked such inane questions. So, does that mean the media perception of music artists is that they are less intelligent than, oh, say a CEO--who may have just tanked their company into bankruptcy? It *is* very peculiar phenomenon. Yes, yes to HG, a manual of snappy riposts for David, and who better to initiate that than you? Please get that ball rolling! (I actually started to think along those lines with rascal’s post, but my own answers turn out too cynical, and not suitable for His Archupoliteness. They need to be more like Tai Chi deflections.)
josie (re#130) I think you’re right, he would probably be uncomfortable, but I think he’ll have to learn to deal with it, it’s inevitable that David’s sales will far exceed Cook’s. I don’t intend that in a mean way--it’s just that in the long run that will be jus’ the facts, m’am!
Drat, not through all the comments, gotta go to work again. Oh well, I have a great job and these days there’s a LOT to be said for that, so I can’t complain too loudly!
And does he know… the places where we go….
The places where he takes us… when we’re feeling low?
I’m lovin’ David instead ! !!!!
Bookaholic #132, “This version of Angels is like being able to hold David’s soul in your very hands.”
You put into words what I felt but could not express when I first heard this version for the CD. With the first words he breathed I felt I was being given something very precious and a sense of awe and almost trepidation rushed over me. And then came the JOY!
Rascal, it really is beyond absurd the questions the radio DJ’s consider okie dokey to ask. Are they trained at TMZ U. for these positions? I do have to remind myself that they are not trained interviewers, per se. I think they’re hired for their *snark quotient*, radio voice, sophomoric prowess, and I suppose for some vague familiarity with pop music/culture. (But I like my snark SMART or at least vaguely entertaining.) Trying to remember back, I think it was almost that bad when I was a teenybopper, and I think I was somewhat amused at the time. (!!) So I guess those DJ’s are actually doing (quite well) exactly what they were hired to do. (Sad, isn’t it) Maybe we’ll get our satisfaction when he’s interviewed by Terry Gross or Bob Edwards (Bedwards). (Not holding my breath on that one, but hey, I can dream.)
Oh, and I can pay to have somebody come haul off that mess up there at #116. Sincere apologies…lol. Or perhaps it would be more cost effective to just have me hauled off. I literally laughed myself to sleep after I saw what I’d done. lol. (Html tags… so simple, yet so dangerous in the wrong hands.)
Josie (#122) lol.. Hey, no prob. You didn’t miss a THING. I’m thrilled you’re giving in to the ODD. You’ve been sorely missed. {{hug}}
jackryan loooooved the nose, er, scratching bit. (AND the chair bouncing bit, too) David is so freaking adorable and hilarious I can hardly bear it. (Cookie was sincere in that.)
juliebug (#154) ROFL!! How did I miss THAT? lol I’ll have to go back and find that in the interview. I wanna dip that one in bronze and put it on the mantle! “It was summer.” God, I love David Archuleta.
ebonyangel (#124) That is a VERY interesting article. Thanks for that. Cool, Dapo Torimiro wrote David’s “Running”. He is madly talented. This is gonna be fun.
SF Yes, where is JessieQ?? (hmm… It’s fall perennial planting season… .)
About Cookie I like him and I love that he loves David, and I wish him all the success inthe world. But I never ever for even one nanosecond believed the final vote numbers. (How do you spell gerrymander?) But all is well for David (he is defintely better off as runner-up, I agree wholeheartedly) and that Cookie iTunes note was super sad and creepy to me. I hope his sales numbers are not ultimately catastrophic and that he does manage to blaze his own trail.
And no listening to Angels for me today til I’m finished worky stuff. It almost killed me yesterday. Unbelievable. *chills* *tears* *sighs* *swoons* *thuds* … and it’s just a snippet. Ok, enuff blithering for one… YEAR.
highervibe -- Yes! David needs to employ Tai Chi deflections on the inane questions.
HG -- you’ve got us off to a good start.
Part of the issue of occasionally painful interview situations, as I see it, is silly questions coupled with David’s nature of answering completely honestly. He has no artifice and sometimes this comes out as just plain awkward.
I would love to see him look at the big picture of where the questioner is coming from, and make adjustments or deflections to the questions as needed. In other words, David has a story to tell, and he can use the questions to tell HIS story.
beebee, I agree, those html tags are dangerous in the wrong hands! But I love to hear that you (and others) found the interviews, including the whole nose sequence, adorable rather than painful. Maybe I need to chill!
HG--Sorry about your loss. A young life cut short is always heartbreaking. Especially so when it is so violent and unexpected. Even when the person is older, it can seriously shake you up. We lost an older family member in the last month and there are several who are taking it really hard.
On another more cheerful note, HG, may I say you’re a genius? I loved the answers to David’s two most commonly asked inane questions. Particularly the last one about what he’s gonna do with his money. After feeding the hungry, etc., he’s gonna fund a really good workshop for feckless reporters. Funny. I think he largely gets those questions because he’s so young, they can’t fathom that he’s deep. He’s just so far ahead of them, they don’t know how to relate. Sad, but hopefully we can get beyond it some day. Jeez. You’d think they’d do their homework, but noooooooo.
I don’t think Cook has anything much to do with RCA’s machinations, and I believe his comments are just a guy trying to be funny, not wanting to make a dig. I do wish someone would wise him up, though. Even goofy offhand statements (about David being uncomfortable being the male lead and having to get the girl, etc.) fuel the twisted haters. If Cook were more aware, he might be a little more measured in the things he says. Although he might just say, “hey, David knows what I meant. I’m sure he laughed.Who cares about anyone else?” [Answer: We do, Cook, protective cadre that we are.]
Boy, I can’t stop listening to this ‘Angels’ version. I’ve always liked the song and it’s actually one of the songs that first sent me on my sweeping down Archucanyon at breakneck speed. It was one of the 27 videos on his YouTube account that I watched after ‘Shop Around’ just previous to falling on my face, going “OMG, what hit me?!” It, along with ‘I’ll Be’ and the Christmas songs, is what got me listening to music again after 20 years. This version, though, is just from a whole different sphere. It’s my favorite of anything that I’ve heard that will be going on the album, and that’s saying something.

fun interview -- the DJ’s really like him and let him answer completely. Talks about how his fans respect him, lots of cool information.
I am odd man out here on these interviews because I am totally enjoying him, he is answering as a 17 yo, don’t see the awkwardness.
Oops. …sent me on my WAY sweeping down Archucanyon…
kizzi -- thanks for the link. I loved this interview. David was his charming, relaxed self. I love his laugh!
One thing before I head home… looks like David will be on Jay Leno on Nov 6th..confirmed per FOD..Don’t know if he’s just performing or performing & chatting.
http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=10721558
This is David’s CD page at Walmart. Note write up at bottom. Has some interesting info regarding marketing to teens/tweens and secondary demographic of parents. Must have been written by a fan?
Nice interview, Kizzi, nice!
I’m really loving the way he pronounces the preposition “to” like “ta,” it’s so cute.
And, of course, his signature laugh.
These interviews are fun, but yeah, they do need some different kinds of questions, which is why Michael Slezak’s is still the best one there is.
Ok..so I have no will-power when it comes to David..I have ‘ta’ come in here and join everyone in the love!! But first here’s a message to David..
Mi Querido, I just listened to the interview you did this AM at 103.5 in Chicago. I understand you need someone to talk to about your problema..you can’t stand your speaking voice or your laugh,& you don’t like seeing your performances?? Well I’m here, and I CAN HELP YOU! I can help you “practice” listening to yourself and watching yourself..you are VERRRY EASY on the ears & eyes. Buh-lieve me when I say…millions of people cannot be wrong..so why are you in denial?? You not only have the absolute BEST singing voice, you also have this wonderful ‘too’ way with words..and your laugh, well, if you could add a laugh track of your laugh on your album, It would GO PLATINUM in 24 hours! Now, David, my sweet..My services will be free of charge and available 24/7..just call, no appoinment needed. I also provide food, bottled water, gum, all the soothing music you can handle. Cute video of the B96 interview from this morning.
Gah!
Or is it. There seems to be TWO B96 interviews. Huh.
The vid is with a girl DJ the audio is with a guy and gal. Weird. They are both marked B96. Oh well…
Dear Dr. Silverfoxe: If you need references for Mr. David Archuleta WHEN he contacts you for your support services, I will provide.
I would tell him that you are insightful, encouraging, spot-on, and a force to be reckoned with. I would tell him that your “joie de vivre” is top notch and he would benefit maximally from your assistance.
I know you are in a contemplative state (i.e.. lurking) and I missed you today. Your comments always bring me joy and a refreshing perspective. Much like what David’s interviews and music deliver to me.
Sweet dreams, Dr. Silverfoxe.
Squeeeeeeee! Could this boy be anymore adorable? Spinning in his chair, saying “ta” on numerous occasions, and now, I’m starting to like the nose-scratching!
Love. David is love. *swoon.*
sooooo adore the last vid interview,,, /Can’t take it
#170 juliebug: Thanks for the link. Best yet! I think that the station did this separate (the hot seat) from the radio interview.
Didn’t ya just love his comments about being 17 and growing and learning; using the stage, interacting with the audience. David is soooo 17--finding his identity, being insecure, deciding his interests, making choices that impact the rest of his life--no wonder his CD is so eclectic. The most amazing thing is that he is sooooo comfortable discussing these things. Goes to being humble and unassuming. I just LOVE this young man!
Querido Davi’..sorry, I just saw you on the “HOT SEAT” & unfortunately for ME…you should stay JUST THE WAY YOU ARE..you need no help from me..DO NOT EVER change..you are the most adorable, wonderful, lovable, beautiful, funny, honest, sweet..and well we in your ARCHUWORLD love you just the way you are!!
However I’m still available for Spanish lessons!
I’m not really a Dr…
Oh..don’t you ever SLEEP!! You seem to be here & there & everywhere!!
New Blog! (Uh oh….David has a typo!) Eeeek!!! hahaha!
“Radip Promotions … on the road
Hey everyone! Just wanted to let you know a little more on what’s going on lately. Today I’m in Pittsburgh for the radio promo tour, and I just have a few interviews to do while I’m here. It started Monday in San Diego. I love San Diego, but I was bummed when I heard Tokio Hotel was going to be at the station I was at that same day! I had to leave for Seattle before they got there, which was too bad lol. They’re really different but I like that about them. So then to Seattle, and after that Milwaukee (where Mietra was born lol.) Oh and by the way she’s NOT my girlfriend! I know a lot of people still think that, but…. that’s pretty much like marrying your cousin. She’s really cool and fun to hang out with since she gets along with a lot of people, but we don’t dig each other like that haha. But I got to hang out with her, Fish (the one who started calling me lettuce boy), and a bunch of other people while I had a couple of days off in Utah last week. We all had a blast. But anyway I’m getting off topic here… After Milwaukee was Chicago, and now I’m here in Pittsburgh. It’s been really great so far, and I’ve seen a lot of you guys from the American Idol tour! Even though I don’t have a whole lot of time to talk to you guys it’s still really great to see everyone.
So before the radio promotion stuff started, I had a photo shoot for some teen magazines on Friday haha, and it was a lot of fun. Then, I went to Michael Johns’ birthday party and saw a lot of friends from the tour and show. I also got to hang out with Jason and Brooke over the weekend too. With Jason, we had some Mexican food and watched Eagle Eye haha. It was a pretty good movie, and it was fun to spend some time with Jason again since I haven’t really spent time with him for a while. With Brooke, she invited me to go to a store with her and we just messed around like dorks haha. We actually took pictures of looking at the clothes and trying stuff on lol. So I guess I’ll load some up! But yeah, we had a good time. I guess that’s all really for now. We’ll be going to Ohio next and that should be pretty cool too. So for those of you who’ll be at the Ohio events, I’ll see you there!
P.S. The song I’d like to share today is Monsoon by Tokio Hotel. I guess in honor of missing them by a few hours in San Diego haha. It’s a really cool and different song, plus they’re only like a year older than me. It’s always cool when there are people around your age doing music.”
Yeah, those lame interview questions, geesh.
rascal -- may we have a bit of your time to answer a few questions? Yes? OK, let’s see here, first we want to know… ARE YOU DATING ANYONE??! bwwaahahahahahahahahaha
lol Rascal … what are you going to spend all your money on?
so , every time i hear him sing the first line ot angels I want to cry….
Silver: I knew you could only lurk so much. And you had to come back Archuenergized.
Don’t have time to read everyone’s posts, just glanced at a few, Hello Gorgeous, sorry to hear about your student, unexpected deaths--no matter what the cause--are always devastating. My son (my only son) has threatened suicide and I’m constantly living on pins and needles knowing I can’t reallly do anything to stop him (he lives thousands of miles away). He seems better lately but can always go the other way. I feel so helpless. Whenever I feel down--which, fortunately, isn’t too often--I listen to David, his incredible voice calms and soothes me and somehow assures me that all will be well in the end; plus I listen to him even when I’m feeling “up.” He’s good anytime!
Hi, Bookaholic! I know you’re upset at not being able to get to Seattle but I also know that someday we will both meet David!
I love his version of “Angels,” can’t wait for his CD--it seems as though we have been waiting forever. I wouldn’t be surprised if it entered the #1 slot on Billboard the day it’s released. I haven’t been too impressed with Cook’s single, “Lights On,” but I do hope his CD does well, too. I can’t deny Cook’s talent, he’s great; but our David clearly has the better voice. It’s only natural that RCA (and deejays, etc.) promotes him, Idol gave him a $1 million dollar contract and they want to make sure they get that money back plus extra. The winner always gets all the attention while the runner-up is kind of on their own (to a point). Let’s face it, David never need to win Idol, he just needed the exposure and his voice/looks/personality would do the rest--and they have!
juliebug: thanks for posting that new blog. David is so … David. He knows his fans will read his blogs, and yet he writes as if he is talking to one of his closest friends: the movie he watched, who he hangs out with, the taking pictures, clarifying he is not dating his friend. He has nothing to hide. He is the same whether he is on a big stage, in a small room with an interviewer, outside meeting friends, wherever.
And those interviews…He is unpretentious, unassuming, nothing to prove, just being a 17 year old. Gotta love that. Gotta love that kid.
Hello notingDaviders!
I love the interviews today.
The one in Chicago was the best but the one with the lady dj was not bad either, especially because we can watch his pretty face.
These days have been a blissful ride, only momentarily marred by the occasional nasty interviewer or fan group. It sickens me to think that there’ll be a lot of that come Nov. 11 and 18th. I’ll try to best to avoid all of it! My mantra: Focus on the prize! Focus on David’s album!
Just finished listening to another one of those interviews.
Gosh! life is so busy when you have ODD.
‘I’m always spacey…’
I take spacey over cynical anytime.
just loooove the way he says ‘merengue’ and ‘abuelita’ He can roll his r’s. Yeah!
Just pre-ordered three CDs w/ bonus track from Wal-Mart (hope he might do Target for another bonus song, though). It’s been crazy following such a busy schedule these past few days, and we have much more to come. Very exciting!
Hello Gorgeous, so sorry to hear about your student’s death.
Hi everyone. This evening, our campus held a candlelight vigil for our slain student, so we’re definitely starting the healing process. Thanks again for caring and making this blog such a comforting place to hang out and share.
Gah! I love getting all this news about David. Panamom, the boy can really roll those rs, can’t he? And, of course, ever so humble, he will swear up and down that his Spanish isn’t that good.
Can’t wait for the Spanish songs (which didn’t appear to be on the track list when it leaked -- maybe one bonus track is in Spanish?).
I have tons of deadline to work on so what am I doing here? Ok, that’s an ODD symptom, right?
Anw, the reason is because I would like to welcome & thank ebonyangel on #124 for the link to Dapo Torimiro article cos it led me to his website & he has SNIPPETS of his work… just sayin’…. http://www.dapomiroworks.com/albumsong-production/
If I am to speculate — which symptom #2 — Archies have brought the task of speculation not only as a sportsfest, but elevated it into an art form! But I digress.
RUNNING has been described as R&B+Pop+Jazzy & Very Cool… so the ff snippets caught my fancy-- #s 8, 14, 15, 18, 20, 22, 24, 26, 27 & 30.
#15 has the ff lyrics:
“I can almost hear you thinking
Your afraid to trust this feeling
Eyes like lasers, burning thru me (Archugaze?)
Judge me. Guilty. But it’s only a case of mistaken identity
Am not the guy who made you cry
Leaving footprints in your heart
Am not the guy who told you a lie… “
#18 on the other hand has this particular line
“… Who did your love run away to?….”
OK, have to go now…. in fact, running (Haha!)
Panamom, “Gosh! life is so busy when you have ODD.” ROTFL
What wonderful interviews today — “You’re so happy. You can feel the bubbles coming out of your body!” — ha, another way of describing the ArchuGlow?
David is about as patient with the interviewers as he is with his fans, yet another gift.
Hey all you ND ODDers! I have been in lurkdom or as Kizzi so eloquently re-labeled it my ‘Contemplative State’ for awhile (to answer you SIlverfoxe btw: thanks for asking). A kind of self imposed exile which I must say was very difficult. Its kinda awesome though to have all this awesome ‘New to me’ stuff to hear. I was kinda bummed that I didn’t know that David was going to be in Milwaukee yesterday or I totally would have been there with bells on seeing that its a mere hour and a half jaunt from mi casa. Oh well it just makes me more determined to go to NYC mid Nov. I did manage to get my booty out of bed early this morning to stream the radio interviews. I was LMAO the whole time. I loved how the DJ’s @ Kiss in Chi-Town were so amazed at the # of Fan-addicts that were waiting to devour the LN. At least three times more fans for DA than ‘Matt Damon’ the week before (per DJ’s observation). I also am pretty much loving all the “leaked” clips. Already stuck on replay running through my mind. Kind Brill on the part of Jive to “leak” those. It actually made me even more ‘stoked and pumped’ for the release, and I thought that was pret-near impossible. Ok off to go find a new DAvatar to go with my new Archuenergy (credit to panamom) for that ‘Archucabulary word.’
panamom..I tried, really tried to just “lurk” til bedtime, but those interviews did me in..I just had to offer David my services as a “therapist”..but he doesn’t need me! Dang!
Then I thought I could teach him some Spanish..but you know what? What is amazing to me is that David speaks with no Spanish accent whatsoever, yet when he says a word or name in Spanish, he pronounces it perfectly. RRRRRROLLING his R’s..sounds heavenly!! So I guess that means he really won’t need Spanish lessons from me!
Does he EVER sleep? He’s just on the go, go, go..so near here, Chicago, Cleveland, Pitt, Columbus, yet so far..*sigh*…
Hi- am very late to the party tonight- had to share the danged computer with the kids for homework!!
Rascal #125- do you think that the inane personal questions are reserved for performing artists or is it celebrities? I think perhaps it is the celebrity status of an individual that is key. When the fame and celebrity status is linked to the pop culture world of entertainment – whether it be movies, music, or sports, it seems that the personal lives of the individuals are perceived as part of the entertainment. Look at even Anna Nicole Smith and Heath Ledger—entertainment, tragic trainwreck entertainment- but part of the entertainment for many. Thankfully, visual and literary art, for the most part, have not yet been stripped of their “art” label and moved into the realm of entertainment for the masses. Of course Warhol and Capote’s personal lives were very much made public- but they associated themselves with the entertainment industry…
SF- be good, ….the last thing our hearts need is for you to unleash the LATIN side of our loverly…uh lovely David….
Hello Gorgeous- My heart goes out to you and all who are affected by this tragedy. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
Ok, this is the first of the leaked songs that after it played I jumped up and shouted NOOO!!! I WANT MORE! I was quite surprised about that since I’ve heard the many versions of Angels already. And Archu-adorable #60, with any other artist I would say impossible, but with David?!.

Wow, so much to discuss tonight!
Ebonyangel #124- thanks for the link. On Idols Forum there was a poll about the other unleaked songs from the album, and I chose “Running” . It was interesting to read about the songwriter.
Laura#8 -- Thanks for the link. I enjoyed how this reporter talked about the camaraderie by the two Davids instead of trying to make their two albums sound like a continuing competition. All RCA needs to do is allow David to endorse the album, like he did at Miley’s b-day instead of that tasteless email. Josie #130-Kizzi #142- I loved your post. The way Cook looks at David when they’re together, there’s no doubt in my mind that Cook has a bad case of ODD.
Littlemushroom#97 & Panamom- I loved your questions and HG-loved, loved the answers. I too tried to come up with clever answers, but alas, clever speech has never been my forte.
Bookaholic #132- Good karma will come to you. David is headed to a long and wonderful career and I believe there will be many opportunities for us to meet David in the future.
I too would like to extend greetings to Stenocruiser #30 and Daisylife, welcome aboard, the ride is fun!
And Happy #51- Do you mind if I have a second brownie
Pax everyone.
OK, as for the lame interview questions: There have been comparisons between David and Elvis. This link is to a page on the Elvis web site. Scroll down to March 1960 -- the icon labeled “FILM 1960 Press Conference”. (You’ll need Real Player) This interview was conducted when Elvis (age 25) returned home after his stint in the army. The questions at 3:05, 4:05 and 4:40 sound very similar to ones we are hearing today. http://www.elvis.com/elvisology/bio/elvis_1958_1965_2.asp You’d think, given almost 50 years, that the interview questions would improve. But, the more things change, the more they stay the same.
We all do get upset about the questions David is asked, but you know what? This is just the beginning. He is not yet considered a Super-duper Mega Star, except by his ODD Fanatical Fans, but just wait! Now they just ask the same silly questions. As his fame expands and & his star rises, the questions will be even more personal and when he becomes a “legal” adult, they may even be offensive to David and his fans. Then OMGosh! Wait til he starts dating someone…he can forget about having any PRIVACY then, at least at first. That’s just the way it is. As I always say, that is another price of fame..one of the ugly prices. To be honest, I don’t even mind the girlfriend & the mean Daddy questions anymore..I’m just happy he’s continuing to be in the spotlight and we are seeing him or hearing him frequently! Just think, if after the tour he kinda disappeared, like all the other idols..I just couldn’t take that!! And besides, he’s getting really good at it…answering the questions.
I think the reason for the inane questions for celebrities is the same reason why tabloids make so much money -- people don’t like to focus on their own lives and therefore look up and idolize celebrities. They therefore get a kick out of fantasizing about being them or marrying them (they can be celebrities themselves), or out of seeing celebrities fall from stardom (it assures them that not being a celebrity ain’t all that).
Hence all the inane personal questions. Do you have a girlfriend? (Because many of your listeners want to be your girlfriend.) What will you do with all the money? (Because you’re only in this for fame and fortune, which none of us have, right?)
This level of personal intrusion of people’s privacy that has become standard fare in the entertainment industry. It’s not just the media’s responsibility though -- it also reflects a lot of people’s obsession and insecurities associated with stardom.
The music industry banks on this and therefore values on musicians’ sex appeal when choosing whom they will invest in. David, however, is an enigma because he has both good looks AND a combination of enormous talent and personal/artistic integrity. David’s stardom invites the inane questions, yes. But it also gives him an enormous power and responsibility to perhaps shape the values and expectations, to help restore some artistry and integrity to the industry itself.
The Beatles’ commercial success allowed them to have an enormous influence on pop music that would never have been possible had they NOT gotten people to crazy over them with their youth, good looks, and massive pop success.
So yeah, the questions are stupid, annoying, and indicative of a deficit in the culture. But that is expected with stardom and David knows that. The question is: what will David do with that power? He can either cash in on the stardom, or he can try to use that to establish some connection with people and make some difference in the world.
I think we all know what path he’ll choose.
ronaldsf- well said…goodnight all…thanks for the fun.
I meant to say “hola’ JesseQ, como estas?”
Happy..When David unleashes his Latin side, and he will, WATCH OUT WORLD!..not only will he sing in Spanish..but the man CAN dance! He will break hearts all ovah’ the ARCHUMUNDO..literally..there will be heart attacks when he shows what those hips can do..you know.. the ones jackryan couldn’t stop lookin’ at in my fav photo! We all will really need those defibrillators then!!
Now it’s time to say g’nite all!
David..Get some sleep! Sweet dreams, be safe & secure in our love for you always..CONTIGO SIEMPRE CON AMOR!!
very well said ronaldsf
ronaldsf -- Eloquent!!! Thanks for that.
Ronaldsf- Wow! very well said, thank you.
I forgot to mention, I ran across an interview on Fanscene that I thought you guys might be interested in. The subject is Rabid- (Archuleta graphic artist extraordinaire), who of course is responsible for the beautiful artwork that graces this post.
http://archuletafanscene.com/2008/10/20/fan-scene-interviews-david-archuleta-graphic-artist-r4d/
My take on one the topics discussed. I happen to like both, the White Angel and Dark Angel look.
oooh I lurve the Dark Angel!
#167 Kizzi -- I read that piece from Wal-Mart, and I can’t help thinking that was not supposed to be made public. The first two paragraphs at least, to me, sound like the type of marketing lingo (primary and secondary demographic targets, David’s brand image) I hear at work … really don’t think this portion was meant for the public, but at the very least the good news is it reveals that David is being marketed in a way that is fair and respectful to him, and also that he will be heavily promoted and marketed -- woot!
One other thought -- interesting what RCA is doing to artifically bump up Cook’s single sales. It’s weird because it’s not even like you can really pre-order the album. You pre-order it, it counts towards the Light On single, but then when the album becomes available you have to confirm your order again. All its doing really is bumping up the Light On sales, which are now somehow hovering near the Top 20. Strange. I tend to think Cook had a lot more casual fans who didn’t keep up after the show..whereas, well, we know how crazzy we all are!!! heehehee!!
ronaldsf…you said, “I think we all know what path he’ll choose”
Every lame interview, every lame question, every lame article has provided David with an opportunity to shine. Even today when one of them tried to get him to say something negative about Brooke ( do any of them do their homework..he recently had been staying with her for goodness sakes!) he was able to turn that around. The glaring contrast between the low standards.. .as you mentioned, indicative of a deficit in the culture…makes David’s goodness all the more poignant.
Ok am back. Done with all my deadlines!Gah!
Am catching up with the thread and I came into juliebug’s post #154
BWHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
I haven’t listened to that one. As Sara space Bareilles put it, can we bottle it up? He is so precious!
Jackryan -- It’s at about the 11 minute mark on this podcast if you can’t find it elsewhere. I still giggle over that one. haha!
http://www.wtmx.com/podcast/20081022-Eric_and_Kathy_-_WTMX-FM_Chicago.mp3
A VERY IMPT MESSAGE WHICH DAVID ALSO TOUCHED ON HIS LATEST BLOG:
“From ITTO on IDF and I agree -- please only request on stations within your listening radius and national stations, and don’t post links, phone numbers, and text codes asking everyone to request at your local stations. If you need more help with local requesting in your area then go to the teamarchie site and join their radio requesting project.
(ITTO’s message below)
I know we’ve seen topics already about this, but apparently the message still is not getting through, so you’ll have to bear with me.
A friend of mine went to meet David at the San Diego radio station on Monday and she and a few other David fans had the opportunity to talk for quite awhile with the station’s program director and DJ and the PD told her how annoying some of David’s fans are being. He told them that they see IP addresses, area codes on caller ID, etc., and they are getting a lot of requests from outside the local market.
He also said that he talks to other stations around the country almost daily and they are all saying the same thing. He strongly urged my friend and the other fans to get the word out that David’s fans are basically blowing it for David. He specifically mentioned that he thinks David is a nice kid but if this continues, he (and apparently these other stations) will get to the point that they won’t want to play him at all. They said they’ve done that to other artists and so it’s not something to be taken lightly.
Now, I know we’ve all been warned about this before and most of us here try to be careful, but it needs to be repeated and the word needs to spread to all corners of the David fandom. So, if you are members at other boards, would you please be so kind as to spread the word as much as possible that all requests must stay local and if you are requesting, please don’t harrass the stations. The last thing we need is to be responsible for hurting David’s career.
Okay, so now that’s out of the way, my friend also added that the PD told the group of David fans that there’s a good reason why we’re not hearing ‘Crush’ in the So. California market yet and it’s because of Jive. He basically told them that David’s label is very successful at what they do and they know what markets to release to at certain points in time. So, in a nutshell, we now even have station PDs telling us to “trust Jive.”
This may explain why suddenly, there is a surge in his itinerary in the radio circuit. Jive sending its best ambassador for the 11/11 album launch. Damage controlling so as not do a Claymate debacle.
Please pass ok?
Another possible demo?

How do you like it?
Good morning angels! It’s things like this that make my day:
Good Morning Angels
This little blurb just made my day and had to share:
Guilty pleasure song of the week: “Crush” by David Archuleta. No matter what type of music you like, it’s hard to not like this infectious ode to teenage love. The “American Idol” runner-up has a beautiful and soulful voice put on display in this song and is already steadily rising through the Top 20 ranks. Be sure to catch this song on his new self-titled album which will be released on Nov. 11.

Sorry, happy#191, but please don’t put Heath Ledger, whom I absolutely adored, in the same category with Anna Nicole Smith as “trainwreck entertainment tragedy.” I know their deaths by prescription medication link them closely, but I’d like to think there was a world of difference between the two personalities. Oi! One of the wonderful things about this year is that, when one star died (Heath), one month later, another star was born (David).
Ronaldsf#196, one of the many things I admire about David is his self-awareness (which, even when he says he hates his “retarded laugh” or gets “spacey,” you know there’s a lot of depth to him), so I’m very confident he’ll use his newfound star power for something good. He’s learning to just be himself, and how many celebrities know how to do that?
Jackryan#206, that’s an interesting message, about the radio stations getting annoyed at David’s fans. It’s an important message to send out, but I absolutely am cynical about the warning they issued. Basically, they’re saying that, if too many fans are requesting David, they’re going to turn on him? What kind of vindicative power play is that? I detect some unspoken bias against Idol going on here.
I can’t imagine DJs deciding not to play Britney or Justin Timberlake or Chris Brown if they had a rabid fanbase doing something similar. But, if it’s American Idol alumni, then they’ll get back at an upcoming artist because he’s got overzealous fans? Gosh, radio DJs are absolute jerks. If they want to quash David’s career over a rabid fanbase, they’re just trying to one-up fans by showing who’s got the real power -- it’s like whining, “You may have forced American Idol down our throats by making the contestants so popular they get record deals, but we don’t have to play them. So, Nah!”
Whatever. It’s good to get the word out, but I’m disgusted they basically admitted that they undermined Clay Aiken’s career because his fanbase got overly invested (not to mention they were looking for an excuse to strike out against him since the gay-bashing against Clay was quite prevalent).
Oops! That should read “vindictive power play.”
Thanks for that “Running” video find, JR. I can imagine the different twists and runs David would do to the song when he makes it his own.
Josie, good morning to you! That lovely news brief is why I’m loving Jive’s marketing campaign. No mention of Cook or Idol to get the word out on how lovely his “Crush” song is, and why we all need to check out his upcoming album.
See? This is how you do classy. Go David! Go Jive!
Wow lots to get caught up on. Kindred spirit you are right on. The more things change the more they stay the same. It would be lovely if some of these interviewers could actually be creative and ask questions that haven’t been rehashed before. I am impressed with David’s patience and goodness. His abillity to subvert questions that are a bit controverisal is fun to watch. He is the real thing and it is exhilarating to see him charm these sometimes annoying people. We love you David!!!
Back to the music. Both my daughters play the piano so as we have had years of learning to listen to so I truly appreciate piano music. I really like the piano in this. The recording really brings it out. I like all the snippets we have heard but this is the song that wrings my heart. Of course I haven’t heard them all yet. It sounds like it is going to be a cornucopia of music-something for everyone. Yea!!!

jackryan4DA: A while back you talked about David as it relates to Malcom Gladwell’s ideas put forth in his book “The Tipping Point: How Little Things Can Make a Big Difference.” I went back and refreshed myself on his ideas and have been struck by the parallels that you mentioned in terms of David being a “Connector “and a “Maven.” And dare I suggest that we , the fans, are his “Salespeople.”
According to Gladwell, tipping points are “the levels at which the momentum for change becomes unstoppable…the moment of critical mass, the threshold, the boiling point.” The book seeks to explain mysterious sociological changes. “Ideas and products and messages and behaviors spread like viruses do.’
Gladwell describes the “three rules of epidemics” (or “agents of change”) in the tipping points of epidemics.
•The Law of the Few: “The success of any kind of social epidemic is heavily dependent on the involvement of people with a particular set of social skills.” Gladwell describes these people in the following ways:
•”Connectors” are the people who “link us up with the world … people with a special gift for bringing the world together.”
•”Mavens” are “information specialists”, or “people we rely upon to connect us with new information.”
•”Salespeople” are “persuaders”, charismatic people with powerful negotiation skills. They tend to have an indefinable trait that goes beyond what they say, that makes others want to agree with them.
•The Stickiness Factor: the specific content of a message that makes it memorable and have impact.
•The Power of Context: Human behavior is sensitive to and strongly influenced by its environment. “Epidemics are sensitive to the conditions and circumstances of the times and places in which they occur.”
In terms of interviews I don’t know if David will change the course of radio interviews with celebrities but for dang sure they will change situationally in how they interview him as he “teaches” them to interview him in particular.
As it pertains to our discussions around sociological change, I see Gladwell’s theroy as a highly interesting structural context to look at David’s rise in the music industry and the “Tipping Point.”
It will be fun to see how things play out in this particular construct..

You know my notingdavid friends, this just makes me so mad…radio stations take requests for songs and it shows them what artists are popular and what songs people want to hear, and they say they will hurt David’s career if we don’t stop calling…huh…what…dont get it at all! If stations would put “Crush” on rotation and people could hear it on a regular basis, they would stop calling!! I called for the first time, and only time the other night, and was very nice and requested to hear “Crush”. All they wanted to talk about was how Lindsey Lohan had a new line of leggings to wear, and asked me if I wore them. I waited for an hour and they never played the song. I listen just about every day and have only heard them play it ONE time. They play other songs over and over and over. I get so frustrated because when I turn on the radio I hear the same songs again and again. It’s like they will play songs that are NOT requested as much and then NOT play a song that is requested. What is up with that? I do not understand. I am so confused!!
Inspired By David: From my reading over at IDF it seems that Program Directors control the play list even though we request a song it doesn’t mean the DJ automatically plays it. Also, Jive has a role out plan for Crush in differently market places building up to the album release to strategically place Crush spins at it most powerful position. Also, at individual radio stations, like all workplaces, I am sure there is a culture, a hierarchy and personalities that factor in.
Still, it is frustrating to not here a song requested, played.
oops -- Spell check isn’t perfect and neither am I!!!
*roll out plan (not roll out plan)
*different market places (not differently)
HG & InspiredByDavid I understand your sentiments but 3 impt distinctions that this “warning” from DJs we should take note of:
1. Source of request — from what I understand, they are reacting to athose fans who are not from their respective local area.
2. Manner by which requests are made — I have heard of one recorded conversation on-air between an Archie & a DJ which revealed that there are a # of fans who would request every 5 or 10 minutes for Crush. It was a coincidence that this Archie sounded the same as the persistent fan. She stood her ground very nicely & politely, simply saying she wasn’t that person the DJ was referring to. In the end, the DJ was man enuff to apologize on-air.
It is the every 5 or10minute request by the same person that is garting to them, not the # of requests.
3. The hate messages the DJ get for whatever reason. Am reminded of a saying that “It is easier to attract ants with honey, than vinegar” or something to that effect. Hate mails, texts never help.
Perhaps some fans are more rabid than others. Perhaps others are better equipped in the communication dept. Perhaps the rivalry between the Davids is still alive with some fans. (Perhaps, perhaps, perhaps!) Many reasons.
But what is clear to me in your system (am from Manila, so pls correct me if am wrong) is that for any upcoming talent, the radio stations do have the power to make or break a career.
What am not clear though is in this era of online radio links, why can’t a request -- outside the local area be valid? This works well in Manila because of the millions of Filipinos scattered around the world so such are entertained by our radio stations.
Me, I just don’t want our community to share the same reputation as the Claymates & hurt David’s career on its track.
Unless all of us are as brilliant as SILVER in blasting crush from her car while cruising the fan lines waiting for the Idols
it is possible for David’s record not to hit the airwaves.
I believe FOD & snarkies posted some sort of protocol for making requests.
Morning…I guess I’m one of the lucky ones..I hear CRUSH several times a day..at least once on WDJX 99.7 in the AM and the on the way home on KISS 98.9, then I change over to WDJX & hear it there too. And yesterday on the way home, someone called in to the WDJX request line & requested CRUSH..The DJ asked her if she knew when his album drops, she said didn’t even know who sang it, she just liked the song!! haha! SO I, being the BUSYBODY that I am, called the station (yes, while driving..sorry, I had to!!) and told the DJ David’s album comes out on 11/11..WOO-HOO and it’s AWESOME and everyone is going to LOVE IT!! He played my OTT plug for David’s album so everyone who was listening heard it!! The rest of my drive home was very enjoyable, needless to say. I also heard CRUSH a while back on one of our HIP HOP Urban stations, but I don’t know which one..that was a BIG surprise though!
I was going to post about this when I got home, but the “air” here lately has been on the “down” side and I was very happy with myself..so I let it go.
I know there are so many serious issues going on in our country now..very important decisions we all of voting age SHOULD make soon..There are so many negatives versus positives..and I just don’t want to link David with anything negative..He is the most positive force in my life right now. He brings me joy when I see him doing what he was meant to do. I want to concentrate on the the good things about David, his positive energy , the happy
David. I’m just not going to worry about what questions he’s asked or whether he will sell more albums than whoever else..I will continue to support David in the only way I know..I will buy his music, I will continue to tell people about his music who don’t know about him,
without the gushing ( I only do that here ). I will watch every TV & radio program he’s on, read every positive article about him. And, BTW, I hope he continues to do as many interviews & TV shows as possible even if they keep asking the same questions..David is smart enough to know those same questions will be asked over & over..and if he’s ok with it, then so am I. I really don’t think he obsessess’ over it, so why do we??
Have a great day everyone!
Silverfoxe – You are so right! Live in the NOW. Savor every moment of David’s journey that we can as it happens. How did we get to be so lucky?
Your post reminds me of the popular book by Eckhart Tolle, “The Power of Now” which is basically a restatement of Buddhist principles of life and expounds that our use of time has a practical aspect, that most people are lost in time and are only peripherally aware of the present moment, or the “Now.” Tolle says when we make the present moment a means to an end for future fulfillment, we become unconscious to the NOW. In this unconscious mind-state, we are easily controlled, and live in fear.
David certainly lives in the NOW!
JR, I hear you. It’s still about power play, and they are lucky anybody even listens to radio (which I only listen to when I drive to and from work).
If it weren’t for the Internet or iTunes, I’d still be waiting forever just to hear “Crush” play on my radio. But, I know better than to get caught up in requesting anything from a media market that’s not all that relevant in our high tech, global information age. Seems to me they should be grateful anyone is bothering to ask anything of them, that’s all I’m saying.
Kizzi.. ‘the power of now’..Awesome read… yikes i say awesome alot lately.I am so thankful to be a part of David’s journey, so many blessings, but the voice most of all!
Angels, wow, just wow. I really love this inspirational song. And David’s version is just so amazing. It is not under or overdone, just perfect, al dente. And his voice, yeah his golden voice, so crisp, so clear and pure. God is really good, HE answers my prayer. Angels will be in the album.
My 2 cents about the callers annoying the DJ. Could it be that they are not fans of David. They could be fans of a rival and just posing as fans of David and they want to sabotage the success of David. Could be.
Your my angel David!!!!
