It’s All in the Details

SnarkyArchies is reporting today on a page from this month’s edition of Details Magazine that in many ways breaks through the clutter of teen-oriented positioning in David’s current press. The Details audience is male and comprises the twentysomething and thirtysomething demographics; decidedly not the center of David’s current fan base (although, I’m not sure there will ever actually be a center; David’s audience is nothing if not diversified). Considering the dismissive, snarky tone adopted by much of the editorial in the pub, it seems even more remarkable that David gets the best copy of all the profiles, not to mention the premiere position in the layout. I realize it would be presumptuous of us to assume that the wider world is going to fail to catch on to the Archumagic at one point or another, but oh my heck, it’s interesting to see it starting already.

Excited to hear from you rascal! Thanks for this great news! The fact that they put David in the forefront only goes to show what we ”savvy” ones have known for quite some time.
Nice to hear from you, Rascal. Hope that all is well! I am just amazed at all the great press that David is getting. I can barely even keep up now, but that’s a good thing!
I need to add that it has been quite an experience and life enhancing since David has came into my life. I was really one of the lucky ones to have seen him on the AI tour. It just makes my heart warm to watch him mature and show how BRILLIANT he is as a musician and a person. What a RIDE!
Oh my heck, Rascal, you’ve been checking out David’s latest blog! As a fellow Utahn, I’m just lovin David’s Utahisms that color his speech and his blogs. Oh my heck, oh my gosh, dangit….can this boy get any more adorable? Me thinks not!
I am LOVING every little morsel of David pictures, blogs, and now this awesome magazine article that we have been fed the past couple of days. How wonderful that Details, which is quite a high class publication by the way, “gets” our David! One by one they are falling for our David!
Ras-callllll -- Hope all is going well on your literary jaunt. You are missed!
I am so excited about the Detail Mag article; one by one they are opening their hearts and souls to the “Archu-magic!” I not feeling presumptuous at all--it is as it is meant to be.
I am so happy to see more evidence proving that David’s fans encompass all shapes, sizes, makes and models. I was just on the people’s choice polls and shaking my head over the latest David vs. David poll. The author of the poll asked which David’s album will do better: Archuleta- he appeals to a younger crowd,
Cook- he appeals to a broader audience. From everything I have been reading from the internet, I don’t believe any artist has a broader fanbase than David Archuleta.
Silverfoxe, I just had a chance to view your music video.
It was just beautiful. It just warmed me up all over. When David smiles, you can’t help but to smile too.
Hi there rascal!! We are MISSING you! But I can see you are keeping up with “all things David” ahem!!
OH MY HECK…Sounds like a song title to me!! hahaha
hmmmm, oh my heck, hmmmm ( David humming & singing after he heard someone say “HECK NO” or “HECK YES” …he sees lyrics everywhere! ok, I’m just speculating here. He is somethin’ else!!
I can hardly stand the wait for David’s album!! It’s going to be awesome!!
And this is cra-zeh, but I am really LOVING the song “Don’t Tell Me” that David recorded when he was I think 11-12 yrs old! I downloaded it to my mp3 player and I just love it..I think Jeff said David composed the music for the song..I love the R&B vibe and the dance
groove..And the lyrics..kinda surprising.
Anywhooo..i’m just rambling cause I love, love, love every
thing about him! And apparently so does my sis!
Potential??? No question . He has already demonstrated what he can do and he has just begun!!! I read some place (I read all over the place) that he has already surpassed Cook in popularity. (poor Cook I think he knew it would happen and that’s is why he was always so close to him, of course I would be too if I had the chance) I have always thought Cook was riding on Davids wings -- kinda. I think David A would have made it with or with AI -- the others? Nahhhhhh
I mean with or WITHOUT -- sorry. I get so excited it’s like mummbling in writing!!!!! You know the typos.
Do any of you wake up hearing his music?
wow.. or “oh my heck” I should say. Such sweetness in seeing David get positive press. I’m with you Kizzi “all is as it should be”
Dear Rascal
It was fun for me to read your blog. I had seen the article on another website. Usually the articles are 1. luke-warm, 2. “we are mentioning him because we have to” (these sound like pablum), 3. or…. snarky.
Because of this I was surprised at my reaction to the picture.
I said to myself: “Did they really want to put him there alone… standing with one foot over the border like he had just taken charge of the place?” ….. “Did they really intend to make the other 3 pics look like a grouping of their own and lesser in importance somehow?” ……. “I know they are showing all of Cook, but he looks like he is just pointing to the other guy with his guitar (art line goes from Davids red shoe, to Cooks knee, up the guitar, the lapel and pink shirt of Teddy, from right to left over the Bons head and leads straight straight back to David)”.
So…. even though Cook is at the point of the visual triangle….. it just leads the eye back to David. Even though Teddy is also looking out at the reader, he does not connect with the same energy as David. Bon looks at Cook, Cook looks down…
All in all (I say to myself) those three look somehow related… (an old Sesame Street song is going through my head at this point ” some of these things belong together… some of these things are kinda the same”…).
Even with all of this (imagining I am IMAGINING things) I was totally bowled over by the article itself.
Thanks for telling me I kinda saw what I kinda saw.
How fun!!
GO DAVID JAMES !!!!!! Let’s party.
Hummm
Well I put in too many ‘straights’ sorry for the goof.
And I forgot to add my final thought which was this: Yeah, David looks like he is from another planet.
Thanks for letting me join your group of aliens.
(do not usually post — much work — also much gratitude!)
David blogs -- he is such a thoughtful guy!
Hey guys! Hope everything’s been going well with everyone. Things have been CRAZY the last week or so, but it’s been soooo much fun.
I’ve mainly been writing (!!!) and recording, trying to wrap things up here for the album. I have a couple of pictures here from in the studio! Haha
I mentioned in my mobile message (801.386.8196) a little about writing, but I’m just going to say again how much I love it! It’s been so exciting, being able to write with different writers and learn so much from them.
I remember a while back when I first had writing sessions with other people, and I was pretty nervous and frozen, but now I’ve been able to open up and just throw around ideas. Haha.
A lot of ideas may even be really lame, haha, but when you just sing a weird line or melody it can spark ideas for who you’re writing with. So, if you’re trying to decide what to do one day, you should write! Haha
Another thing I just wanted to say since I haven’t had a chance to say something in a while is THANK YOU!!! I can’t believe how well the video for “Crush” has done so far, and I’m so glad to hear you guys like it.
It blew my mind again to see that it was #1 on iTunes, and I have just really appreciated how supportive everyone has been.
I’ve really missed seeing everyone on tour too, haha. It was fun talking to everyone and hearing what you had to say, so I love looking at the comments posted online and the voice messages crack me up!
Oh my heck, haha, I love ‘em. But anyway, thanks again so much! I’m doing my best to make this album for you guys, and it’s been a lot of fun!

more to come….
refnaf -- yes, yes, yes…”all is as it should be.”
(ET) we will have a dozen or so NEW (sigh, gulp, scream) David Archuleta songs…I keep trying to come up with a strategy to how best to listen to each of them; savor each of them…but I know I’ll probably listen to everyone all at once like a kid ripping through each present at Christmas at light speed and then go back and listen more astutely, with greater appreciation.
bluesky -- Great description of the composition of figures at the top of the article. David is separate from the triangle formed by the other three artists. David’s red shoe stepping into and taking command of the stage. What insight! Ahhhh….I can live on this for days. Thanks!!
Oh my heck! A new David blog and a new Rascal post! Yay!
Anyway, it’s amazing how public opinion has changed about David. Keep in mind, everyone, that when AI7 started, the only thing anyone ever talked about was the magical phenomenon that was David Archuleta. Then suddenly the tide changed, and it was all about David Cook -- the anti-David-Archuleta. Say what you will, and I think Cook is talented and a nice guy (and has great chemistry when shown with our David), but I have always felt his win was about David Archuleta and not necessarily about him. Which is why Details can dismiss him as a “generic rocker” while praising David in contrast.
I love how things have come full circle once again!
Anyway, I’ll be out of town the next few days giving a guest lecture, so I’ll try to be back here for the weekend.
Good to hear from you, Rascal!
lost a sentence in previous post. before (ET) said:
Just think in 34 days 5 hours and some odd minutes…
Cool! Thanks, jackryan4DA! Some of those links are already included on ATD, but I’ll add the rest later (probably over the weekend -- I won’t have time tonight).
Of the four artists on that magazine scan, David A. stands out more than the others. He is so unique and everyone should try listening to his songs/performances and realize that he has so much potential. If they don’t think so after listening, well, I wouldn’t understand why
How great to come home to new posts from David AND Rascal, thanks, guys! And I love that the intro to the Details piece compares David (oh, and the other “dudes”) to several young talents with substance (like Duffy). “Starting already,” indeed.
(And I bet everyone here instantly recognized David’s pic from the Teen Choice Awards! hahaha love it!)
HG..see ya this weekend..don’t work too hard!
Oh my heck…
I just like the sound of that…had no reason to say (write it).
OH MY HECK!!! haha1
jackryan4da -- What a list! You are a studied and devoted David fan. THANKS!
jackryan4da -- off topic -- I’ve been wanting to ask about your name. Jack Ryan is a character in many of Tom Clancy’s novels. I love this character. Any connection in the name?
Nice article rascal!!! It’s been a while since you posted a new one. Btw, here’s a video that’s burning down the house in one of the fansites: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wKcZMkuvodA Does it look like David’s checking out a girl?!?!?!
Oh my heck yeah rascal!!! Nothing like happy news with all the unhappy crap goin’ on in this world, not to mention the fact that my dang Cubbies choked again. Thank GOD for David Archuleta. He has replaced my Cub’s desktop wallie….David makes me smile. The Cubs make me all sorts of angry and sad. Bleah. Anyway, thanks for the terrific post. Archie rules.
ok, anybody know how to get a picture in the profile?
Another thought….We have been saying for a while that David is the “new cool.”
Details Magazine is for hip, cool twenty & thirty somethings. So, David is “swanky” (hip, cool, high-class, posh, up-market, etc.) in twenty/thirty someting urban lingo. Swanky is defined further at :
http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=swanky
bluesky Haha… I had the same reaction! When I saw the pic above, I started singing: “One of these things is not like the other…” Haha…
One of the things I share with David is the habit of singing away into most circumstances, even at work! In fact, one of the most successful campaigns I launched for our sales team was use videoke to make the mechanics of the year’s incentives program sticky! It wasn’t easy to do, but it worked!
silverfoxe in the previous thread you were asking about my blogname. Jack Ryan is the central character in Tom Clancy’s book series — Hunt for Red October, The Patriot Games, Sum of All Fears, Clear & Present Danger, Cardinal of the Kremlin, Executive Orders, etc….
Most titles may be familiar to you guys as they were made into movies. Although in the 1st book/movie -- Hunt for Red October -- JackRyan was played by Alec Baldwin, the rest belonged to Harrison Ford! Jack is CIA analyst but by the end of the series, and due to an unfortunate twist of Fate in international espionage, JackRyan ended up as the US President.
JackRyan is humble, intelligent, loyal, brilliant, awkward, good looking, funny- the dry wit type, brave, loving & most impt of all, principled — is it obvious that am in love him?
And I love the fact that Harrison Ford plays him!
My friends are almost given up on me for being in love with a book character! But when can I do? And really, who could blame a girl, right? As a true blue Archie would say:Resisting is futile! They are also up in arms cos they say it is hard to match those specs (been a widow for 20 years). But am not looking! So I don’t know why they still bother, even to-date! Haha
So that’s the lame story of my blog name. Who knows? My JackRyan may be out there… someday… Haha!
Kizzi You are so right! Didn’t see your post before I submitted my explanation. yes JackRyan is adorable.
My laptop’s nic is also jackryan. So my co-workers are wondering who the heck is jackryan in the network -- haha.
And if that isn’t the height of my craziness, when I networked the house, the main PC is named Archie…and the other laptop Harry (as in Potter)…. so my kids just look up to the sky! Oh my heck! what can they do, am their mom, they love me — so they just let me be. Tee-hee
jackryan4da -- love the name; Jack Ryan is a hero, a . warrior…what’s not to like. There is something to be said for great taste!
.
….and LOL, “due to an unfortunate twist of Fate in international espionage, JackRyan ended up as the US President.” Also something to be said for an awesome sense of humor. Haha!
sgi…yep…david is definitly checking out that girl!! She looked like a cutie too…
jackryan4DA..the reason I asked about your blog name is because all the Jack Ryan movies are among my very favorites and I thought it was interesting that a young lady would choose that name…very creative!
oh my heck..I meant sgj…yes he is checking the girl out!
sgj…hmmm…We’ve seen this look before. On the porch at the end of the “Crush” video. So, yeah I’d say he’s checking her out. The reality is he wasn’t acting here! WOW what I wouldn’t give to be looked at like that……….
The most magical thing about David, I think, is the way he is able to just blow away negative forces. What I am thinking of is the oh so negative and terribly hurtful things that were said about David on various blogs during the Idol competition. Most of these comments were from fans of other male contestant, primarily from Cook fans. Oh my, the wind is blowing in an entirely different direction since these former detractors got to see our boy on tour, television and YouTube. When someone says they are Cook fans or Jason fans, now they always have something to say about how wonderful David A. is as well. That kid really has charisma enough for a dozen his age. He always says the right thing because he is David and David thinks the right way. BTW, many thanks to jackryan for the comprehensive list of Archie related sites..
http://hollywoodinsider.ew.com/2008/10/david-archuleta.html
EW article posted at 9:59 pm that David signed with a management company.
First Silverfoxe I loved your video with pictures of David taken by fans. The music is great and the pictures just made me smile. What a wonderful warm fuzzy. He really is a fantastic looking young man.
HG, I am still enjoying all the morsels you made available for us at All things David.
Rascal, it is so lovely to know you are busy but still hovering around occasionally opening us to new thoughts.
I agree that the tour made a difference to David’s image. A1 did not show him to an advantage but the tour showed everyone his heart and his talent. His big voice filled the arenas and you could understand his words. He cared about his fans and it was evident to all. He didn’t complain or bellyache about his cold but just kept right on giving his all. He remained humble and pleasant. He recorded a hit single in the middle of all the chaos as well as making a video. David is amazing!!!
#36 Kizzi thanks for the link. But I just have to sigh when once again Jeff is described as the “reportedly difficult” dad. Jeff has said more than once that not one of the tabloid stories reported during AI was true. After spending a little bit of time around him, I can say that Jeff is a warm, gentle man who simply supports and cares for his son. Many of the aspects of David that we love are so obviously inherited from his dad.
And as for the recent press for David, I just have to say (as Brett would say), “Go big D!” We love you David!
Silverfoxe I too must say I just LOVED your video— I watched it three times on youtube today…and I cried like a fool. It was beautiful… the song combined with the lovely pictures was just too much for me….. tears were flowing. Thank you so much !
The “look” video is KILLER! I love his smokin’ gaze WOW!!!!
The Details article is unbelievable… I am married to a Details reader and I am so pumped to have our David featured… it is such a hip magazine… you go David !!!!!!! He is taking the world by storm… I couldn’t be more excited !!!!
dma..thanks…perhaps you may want to check out the latest video I just uploaded:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4smEWztbv-o
Yup…this is what do now…match up songs with anything David and put it to a video.
Great topic: 19 Entertainment passes on signing David Archuleta. Why am I not concerned?
ojs759…thanks! ditto for you too..check this one out..hope you like it:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4smEWztbv-o
I really have to say g’nite all!
And David…Sweet dreams, be safe & secure in our love for you always….CONTIGO SIEMPRE CON AMOR!
Anyone interested to bid? Archie memorabilia like one-of-a-kind piece by RABID, tote bag, calendar and signed photos…
http://teamarchie.com/promo/
sgi#25, David is definitely checking her out! And to think she actually missed it! ha ha! She is cute, and David is absolutely smokin’ when he gives her that “look” -- we need a name for it.
According to that EW article, 19E passed on David? I’m finding this really really suspicious. It’s all of a sudden putting season 7 into perspective. Obviously, something was going down, and I wonder if this has something to do with the negative press about Jeff the AI producers either helped to fuel or to not try to downplay. I’d love to get the real story one of these days when one of the parties (most likely Jeff since David would have rightfully moved on) is ready to break the silence.
Am venturing that it is the other way around. 19E’s PR machine can easily make this spin. They will also look ridiculous if they sign-up David after making it appear that Jeff is the stage-father-from-hell…On the other hand, David’s team will just go on and say they signed-up with etc.. instead of highlighting that they passed up 19E. Just not their style.
Cos logically, given their family’s experience during Idol… why would they sign-up with them?
It is also a good idea for an artist’s management and recording company be separate… not good to put all your eggs in one basket.
Just my take. What am confident is that with David’s talent and work ethics and youth -- he has so much going for him. Plus he has his Angels of course
so…..
Kizzi, Silver Re: jackryan — what can I say? great minds, think alike? Haha.
Great video Silver.
HG -- don’t work too hard. Look at me, got the bad flu and paying for it big time! Find time to play ok?
Hi rascal! Thanks for making an appearance in your own house! We miss you but at least this time we knew you were going to scale back. When you went away that last time, it really felt like a limb was cut off suddenly. It was like being in a bad dream when typing in the ND url kept bringing up FB!
It is truly satisfying to see that David’s great potential unfolding (just the way we believed it would happen). David picked up a lot of new fans during the tour because those who were not “getting” David finally got to see the real David, not the image that AI was trying to project for whatever reasons which I won’t go into now.
bluesky #12, what an awesome observation and analysis! I totally see what you are saying. And so funny about the song “some of these things belong together… some of these things are kinda the same”, and likewise, jackryan4da, “One of these things is not like the other…”!!
HG, before I forget, good luck with your upcoming guest lecturing, not that you need it! Re: #45, are you thinking 19E was turned down and not the other way around? Is that even possible contractually? I’m just curious. Maybe I didn’t quite understand what you are saying. At least I know the AI producers did diddly squat to change the ugly picture TMZ painted of Jeff. Not only that, Nigel fueled it. That’s why I am inclined to believe it was their idea to begin with.
Something more positive: I LOOOOOVE David’s new blog. It is wonderful to hear him talk about the creative process of song writing. “now I’ve been able to open up and just throw around ideas.” “I’m doing my best to make this album for you guys” just warms my heart. There is so much love going between him and us, his faithful fans. Love and joy everywhere!!
rascal -- glad to see you’re happily lurking--and bringing us the news treats--resistance is still futile, ‘eh?!!
hooked (#10) -- yes! just about every morning.
jackryan -- oh my heck, THANKS for posting that blog entry!!
And I did go to the alloy source--who is that guy standing next to David in the 2nd photo???
Back to this lead graphic--interesting! Never heard of Teddy Geiger, so I had a listen to a song of his (no tomatoes, please!), it had a lyric “I could fall asleep in those eyes… like a waterbed…” I think that line needs to move over into the Archie column!
VERY interesting read re Irving Azoff
Azoff’s Power
Posted Sat May 10, 2008 7:27pm PDT by Bob Lefsetz in The Lefsetz Letter
As Hits continues to chronicle the downfall of the Warner Music Group, one must ask if major labels are even the story anymore.
So Warner’s numbers tanked…..
Irving Azoff does not need Universal’s catalog to start.
Funnily enough, as we contemplate the marginalization of Clive Davis, the era he presided over has already died. Clive was about record company power. That’s been the mantra of the last 15 years, if not two decades. The record company controls the act. Tells it what to record and if it will release. The record company is the tyrant, your nemesis. But now, through the efforts of Irving Azoff, the act is king once again. May not feel so, you don’t see Mo Ostin presiding over Warner Brothers, but that’s the way it is.
Irving is the best protector of talent in the rock era. He even eclipses Colonel Tom Parker. Parker made a lot of decisions based on self-interest, like not allowing Elvis to tour Europe for fear his own illegal alien status would be revealed. Irving likes money, he likes to win, but he does this by going to the mat for the artist. What Henley wants, he gets. And not only Henley, but Christina Aguilera. Even Jewel. You take a meeting with Irving, and he closes you. And he’s no patsy, if he thinks you’re your own worst enemy, that you’re not taking your business seriously, he fires you! Like J. Lo….(read more, click the link below)
http://new.music.yahoo.com/blogs/thelefsetzletter/5320/azoffs-power
sgj -- ha! now there’s a killer David “look”, the vid probably ends abruptly because the camera mellllllted, and the girl along with it…!!!
Fe -- did anyone answer? Go to gravatar.com and create an account with your screen name, upload a photo, crop it, be sure and give it a “G” rating (don’t forget that part!), accept it, and voila! That may be a little sketchy, but that’s the site to get your chosen pic uploaded.
Well, not to be a conspiracy theorist, but this season does seem to have a lot of strange machinations…But..I’m sure…all about money and strategy. I still find it odd that we’ve never seen David’s “crazy” audition…the one that Paula and Randy were giving him kneeling praise and bows… Come on….that…followed by what we saw in his auditions…then followed by “shop around” which was BLOW AWAY amazing….the followed by IMAGINE….which was also AMAZING….
I just think that they “TINKERED” with their program this year…kind of like they felt the audience “TINKERED” with their program last year with SANJAYA. I think this year was a reaction to that….
And, from the get go…David was ….just amazing.
I wouldn’t be surprised if deals were made up front…after the first few weeks…
Not to say anything bad about David…but…he’s just that “SPECIAL”…and it was obvious…and like some articles said in the beginning….it just couldn’t be that way and be good, money making TV.
That being said….ISN’T DAVID THE BOMB!!!!????
TheOtherDavid #52, yes, I too get all squinty-eyed and suspicious when I think of AI and David.
I remember after My Fox Utah, when David said that he didn’t feel great about his performances that day, and it was clear that he was little sick, too. Given how AWESOME his My Fox Utah performance was of “Crazy,” his audition performance must have been cuh-razy!!
19/E “passes” on signing David…make that the other way around! And GOOD!
What better way completely distance David from AI..David can really do his own thing. I’m sure David will always give AI credit for the jump start to his career..but he was stifled after IMAGINE..he was just too good too early in the season..it could have turned into the DAVID ARCHULTETA show…And for me, it was anyway!
oh my heck!!
now i’m thinking maybe I shouldn’t have used the images from each of David’s performances from AI on my new Video.. oh what the heck…he was awesome and it’s my keepsake memory!
IMO, David’s voice is enough to earn new fans, don’t mention his passion to music, don’t mention hes likable.
It sounds silly, but I couldn’t help my smile when I saw the photos he was with mickey and minnie… though I agreed he should keep away from disney… However, I just couldn’t help to smile and think “he is sooooooo cute!!!”, and I could understand why the teen girl’s eyes turned into heart-shaped!! lol..
I have read the news about David signing up a new management company, and I am not quite sure whether it’s a good or bad move?? Anyone could explain??
Yes Silverfoxe I have watched Killing Me Softly three times and I love it. My cheeks hurt from smiling. Great pictures and celebration of his experience. He was awesome during A1 and any stuff going down from management doesn’t matter anymore. David is going to be a huge star and I am sure he will remember A1 and the friends he made there with great gratitude and wonder all his life. He always looks at the positive and takes it and lets the rest go.
I know fans have been a little perturbed with Jive as they did not seem to promote David the way we think they should have. But if they let David have a say in his work they are fine with me for now. I trust David to know what is best for his career. They can bad mouth Jeff all they like-thousands of fans have met him and know it just is not true. You can deny things till you are blue in the face and people will believe what they want to or what makes a more interesting story.
sgj, I have watched that clip many times and it too makes me smile. Now we know what kind of girl catches his eye. Dark hair and eyes-are we surprised with his beautiful mother as a role model. They are such a lovely family.
dma, sgj, silverfoxe, hg: The ArchuGaze is splendid and scorching. GAH, if that could be captured during any acting or singing performance we’d all be figuratively DOA when in our fan girl mode.
And, yes the girl is dark haired, dark blue (?) eyes and did you notice the beautiful skin? So he goes to the next fan and she turns away and he looks back with sizzling, intense eyes and a gorgeous smile. Can you imagine what is going through that lucky young fan’s mind today?
Ain’t being human a scream!
You know, I think physically, David is attracted to dark haired & the morena-type women. Cos this is the 5th time that I could remember David giving an inkling of interest to a girl — and they are always dark haired or the morena type. hmmnn….
“male solo artist”
Does anyone else love that as much as I do? Not referencing him as a kid.
btw -- I have been gone for a week as my daughter had her baby last thursday. As I was cuddling Adam, I played Davids Imagine and he visibly relaxed..
My daughter’s husband is a lead singer in two bands -- awful hardcore heavy metal and a cover band. He never watched AI -- he said someone showed him youtube videos of David and he couldn’t believe the voice. He loved it too. He has a fanbase that he doesn’t know about. Verrrrry cool!
Betsy -- congrats on becoming a grandma! Grandkids are special indeed, I have 3. Lovely to hear that David’s voice is so soothing to your Adam.
David is truly universal in his appeal, you just provided another example.
Ah, the best morning present ever from #36′s post about David’s management change:
http://hollywoodinsider.ew.com/2008/10/david-archuleta.html
A huge step for David away from AI and association with it. And, like “Becky”, who commented below the above article, I live for the day when David and Cook aren’t ever again mentioned in the same sentence. This takes David a bit closer to that day.
And from post #50: “Irving is the best protector of talent in the rock era.” I feel like Christmas came early. Not only is 19/E gone, but David has better people working with him. Just yesterday I read an article about 19/E’s horrible record with AI runner-ups. Basically, no success for any but Clay. So happy David escaped their clutches.
#10 Hooked
Yes, I have awakened hearing David singing in my head. The first time it happened was after he sang Angels on AI. I probably woke up 6 times that night hearing it in my dreams. I love that song but I felt like I slept not at all that night!
It has probably happened about 3-4 times since but not to that degree.
What is this power of the Archusinging that can get me in my sleep?!!
OMG, i am SO excited! Yaaaay! am i the only one who is SO anxious for the 2010 grammy’s, where hopefully, *fingers crossed* david will be nominated for best new artist, and WIN?! seriously, i will be happy enough with his album going gold, but i just want him to win the trophies! hopefully, in future years, he will monopolize all the “best male vocal performance” awards, just like aretha franklin did eight years straight. seriously, this reminds me of when i was a little girl, and i was rooting so hard for christina aguilera (2nd best) to trump britney spears (resident queen bee) at the grammy awards 2000, and she did! and its still like that this day, because although britney has sold more records, xtina has the respect and the trophies. so although i would rather david sold the records AND won the trophies, i want him to have respect. seriously, david grabbing the best new artist grammy will be SO EPIC! that would make my (and his) year.
the nod from details is only the beginning.
omg!!!
this video!!! his eyes!!!! heaven!!!!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wKcZMkuvodA
archie checking out a cute brunette, I am so jealous, I would kill for him to look at me like that
betsy…congrats on your new grandbaby!!
Hooked!! I not only wake up with David’s voice in my head, I go to sleep with his voice in my head too. I also dream about David which is not surprising cause just about every waking moment is all about David..am I cra-zeh? pro-buh-blee..but so are YOU aren’t you, HOOKED?!
So what are we calling “the look”….the “ARCHUGAZE”,
that’s ok, except David really prefers to be called David so is there HAS to be another name for “the look”…
I meant…there has to be another name for “the look”…
DANG IT!!
djasgirl Christina Aguilera -- that girl has some chops! Unfortunately she was mismanaged until she went to Azzoff Mgt! She’s one of the artist I hope David would collaborate with.
Another one is Renee Ostead -- dunno if you are familiar with her but she also acts as of the cute daughters in a sitcom “Still Standing”. She is into bluesy tunes (e.g. I Want Love That Will Last) but she scats too! So I can just imagine wonderful music from her & David together!
jackryan- OMG, christina aguilera is like MY singer, you know what i mean? she’s the singer i can listen to for days, and i’ve known her music since i was 7 years old, so she’s like my celine, aretha, whitney, etc. also, doesn’t “crush” remind u of “genie in a bottle?” i mean, we all know christina is much better than that song, but it made her a superstar. thats why i took no heed to the complaints about crush not exploiting his voice. david has plenty of time to sing the 3 octave, heart wrenching ballads, but for now, he needs to sell singles.
plus, i think that christina’s britney is david’s cook. i suspect cook will sell more records, but i think david’s voice will make him something special (just like xtina) to the people that can truly appreciate it. also, they are both strong pioneers for “blue-eyed soul.” i mean, christina’s rendition of “it’s a man’s world” was epic. i hope david will be able to showcase his abilities with something out of his comfort zone like that, and hopefully gain respect from non-fans. as i said, we should just keep our fingers crossed and trust the archulator.
and a david-christina duet would be a dream. i think he’s the only male pop singer who can actually match her. i love rickey martin, but vocally, next to xtina, he paled in comparison.
Great news about the change in management but I can’t believe EW is still perpetuating that myth about Jeff?!?
Once I calm down (a double-dose of Angels and Crush should help), I’m writing them a rational yet scathing letter to ask since when does using the word “reportedly” give them license to print lies fabricated by cyber-sleazeballs TMZ?
Gosh..is anyone else just sitting at their computer with a great big grin? I am soooo happy for David. And we thought we were going to be missing him? All this news has me beaming with pride!!! GO BIG D!!!
Archu ++ words — actually at Rickey’s, the regular archie posters there managed to come up with a list of coined terms e.g. archugaze.
Been trying to locate it but there are so many threads, i decided to just ask some of the angels there so we can also add to AllThingsDavid
jackryan4DA -- I looked for a compedium on the net of Achu-’s but didn’t find either. If nothing is available, I can help gather them.
Silverfoxe -- I think the ArchuGaze is so descriptive. Seen ArchuLook also used to describe David’s scrutiny on this vid.
I hope David enjoys the Archu++words. I like them -- they are so ArchuDelicious.
Hi everyone!
Such great news for David -- new management, the Details feature, iCarly photos! It’s really hard to keep up.
#68 djasgirl
Not sure Cook’ll sell more. Just compare Crush 1st week sales (166 k) with LO (109k). And it keeps selling well (66,677 this week)
# 65 Silverfoxe
Yes, people are calling it the ‘Archugaze’. He looks at her quickly before signing and straight into her eyes as they’re about to hug. They made eye contact. Pity she turned away and missed his hot gaze. Ha! Poor girl had to breathe.
valbraz- dont be so quick to write cook off. you have to remember that he outsold david pretty much throughout AI, and after the finale, he sold 3X the downloads david did. plus, he already has a bona fide hit with time of my life, won david by 12 million votes, and has almost double the amount of myspace friends. and don’t forget those 11 songs on billboard. i mean, i hope david outsells him, all the other idols, and just about everybody else, but i try to be realistic. just because david sold more singles in his first week, and is still selling well, doesn’t mean that cook won’t sell more singles and albums overall. i mean, i’m not saying cook will sell more for sure, but looking at the evidence, i suspect he will.
#68 -- I’m not sure about the record sales for Cook -- maybe, but it will only be temorary because his fan base will “grow” up and so will their taste. Our David appeals to most fan bases NOW and we are true followers. He appeals to some of the “rockers” and they are surprised by his talent, his gift, his appeal when they really listen to him. In addition he will be an international star. He is adored. There will be no comparison.
Silverfoxe -- YES I am “HOOKED”
By the way I am dark haired (boxed) can be morena, and would undergo a few lifts and tucks, erasures here and there for “that look” hahahahah oh my goodness i have lost it.
Gotta work now. Gotta work now .
valbraz hi! this is my 1st time to “talk” to you. Crush did 66,677 this week? Wow, that would put it to over 630K in total sales units.
At this rate and IF sustained for the next 4 or 5 weeks, Crush would reach 900K by the time the album launches… but that # does not include physical CD sales, just downloads… would be pretty cool to celebrate the launch and the gold and platinum awards by that time…
Well, I can dream can’t I?
djasgirl Yes you are right in saying that David’s early success with Crush does not mean Cook won’t sell more. The reverse is also true as both conditions are not mutually exclusive. However, I have to point out that Cook’s success in digital downloads during Idol were based on established songs already. It is a different ballgame if one is selling new songs. And if the lukewarm response to Light On is any indication, despite the whole 19E machinery behind it, Cook will really have to do better.
I like Cook. I think he is versatile and his voice is awesome. But a rocker, he is NOT. At least to me and my generation.
With Azzoff, at least this management company will package, promote & handle David’s affair professionally. And complementing Jive’s handling of his music, am hoping for the best for David!
New interview…good one, too.
http://www.popeater.com/music/article/archuleta-talks-clay-crushes-and-cook/205125
Awww, David, you will never disappoint us.
hooked- i hate to say this, but how are you SO sure that david will be this huge superstar, and have millions of fans? because you and the fan base think he’ll be? now look, i think david is something special. i mean, his music inspires me, and his voice is otherworldly to me. BUT i do realize thats how I feel about him, and i know i am just one person. just because you and i feel strongly about david’s talent doesn’t mean everyone else will. i mean, everyone keeps saying he’s gonna be this HUGE star, but how are we so sure? we all need to remember that not every great talent becomes a superstar, and there are many superstars (miley cyrus) that are not insanely talented.
and on a side note, ALL the idol’s fan bases think that their idols are destined for greatness. the michael johns fans think he’ll be a pioneer for blue-eyed soul and classic rock. the cook fans apparently think he’ll change the face of music. the jason castro fans think he’s the 2nd coming of bob dylan. what makes us any different from them? because we believe? well, they believe too. my point is that, just because we see david as something very special doesn’t mean the whole world will. the taylor hicks and blake lewis fans were 100% sure they were going to be superstars. and that didn’t happen. i’m not promoting pessimism, but i’m just saying it would be wise for some of us to lower our expectations and be a little more realistic about david’s future, and not be so quick to write off others (like cook).
Excerpt from the popeater interview:
Who was your first celebrity or real-life crush?
I’ve always been kind of weird about the celebrity thing because it’s like, how do you like someone who you’ve never met? It’s just kind of weird for me. But I guess people feel like they get to know their celebrity crushes. I know there are a lot of fans that feel that way with me! [laughs] It’s so weird how people can get with that kind of stuff. I’ve always felt like I was too young. It’s like, “You’re not old enough to have a girlfriend.” But lately, it’s been about getting to know the person. There are some people who I definitely want to get to know better.
Hmmmm…. a spring to his current stride? hmmmmn… I bet Silverfoxe would like to wring my neck by now -- haha!
juliebug: Thanks for the link. A much more mature interview and I enjoyed his reply as to what he would do if President. He has such an altruistic view of the world around him.
His response to question about real-life Crushes has changed…”But lately, it’s been about getting to know the person. There are some people who I definitely want to get to know better.” Thus the ArchuGaze.
I really admire his ability to be open and vulnerable about who he is and what is he doing. It really is part of his magnetism.
David, you are just too much, just too much!
BTW, I have to say, I find the latest popeater interview one of the best just because of the fresh questions!
djasgirl: I applaud your cautious optimism about David’s career. I agree that anything can happen and it really is about the present and the future can take twists and turns that we cannot predict.
I don’t have a sense that Cook has been written off; I think he has a shot like David a long and productive music career.
Sometimes, though, I am guilty of applauding David’s success and go over the top with my enthusiasm as a way of showing my joy. Hopefully, I haven’t done that at another celebrity’s expense.
Sometimes, I do see on other blogs comments that continue to compare the David’s and I think that is the way people work through their fears and feelings about their favorite celebrity. Some don’t appreciate one of the David’s music and they express that when the other David is experiencing success. I have seen fans from the Jo Bros and Chris Brown take exception to our David now that he has released Crush and the Crush video, so I think this is what some fans do, right?
Someone wrote earlier on this thread that the two David’s are being separated by the media since the end of the tour and you are right that we need to treat each independently and not immediately compare the success or failure of their latest effort with the others success or failure.
I think AI brought us together in a competitive environment and now we have to back off and support our favorite without continuing the competition.
djasgirl: Thanks for the needed dose of reality and sanity.
However, please clarify something for me. You stated that, “after the finale, (Cook) sold 3X the downloads david did. . . .” Didn’t AI pull all the iTunes songs for the idols other than Cook after the finale? Have heard things like your statement before and just wondered.
jackryan4DA…What? What? David has a “spring” in his step? David wants to get to “know” someone better? Who?? I jus’ want to knowwwww!!! David, David, David! When you start “getting to know some people better” there’s going to be some other people with broken hearts all over the world!! hahaha!
OH MY NECK!! I mean HECK!!
djasgirl…what just happened? earlier you were so hyped and happy..then thud! David is going to surpass our expectations..wait and see. And the first thing we, his loyal fans should do is stop the competition NOW! So what if Cook sold more downloads on iTunes during AI..Who cares anymore.
So what if Cook sells more albums. There’s room in the music biz for BOTH Davids to be equally successful now..HOWEVER, the difference, and this is a BIG difference…David will be 18. Cook is 25-26…David has just begun, and he will have a LASTNG career. We have only seen one aspect of David’s musical genius..his VOICE. We have yet to experience his writing..We have witnessed the way he gets completely LOST in the lyrics & music of the covers he’s done to the point that they become HIS. If he can do that with another writer’s song..well just IMAGINE what he will do with HIS own musical storytelling!!
I realize, djasgirl, that we may seem OTT in our zeal for
David and one of the main reason’s for it which you may not see as I think you are very young, is that we, his older fans just have not seen anyone quite like David. Comparisons have been made to others, like Elvis. I would like to think that a better comparison would be Elton John or Billy Joel, or any other singer songwriter who’s career has spanned over several decades…that’s going to be David. He is just THAT good. He is young..he has just begun..enjoy the ride!
Isabella- ya, i heard those things too, but i’m not sure if they’re true or not.. u know sometimes, certain fans try to make excuses (cook fans are doing that now). so it may or may not be true- i’m sure someone else can verify. but in cook’s defense, he was outselling david during the show, so he would’ve outsold him either way. just not by such a large margin.
silerfoxe- u know i love you optimism, and i was trying to make an optimistic post for a change (i tend to be a downer- sorry!) but after i saw another poster expressing how our david was going to be a superstar, WHILE saying that the other david would be a flash in the pan, that didn’t bode well with me. honestly, i actually don’t mind the cook-archie comparisons, and i will acknowledge that i am happy that david had better 1st week sales than cook- (take THAT naysayers!) what i don’t like is when other people think that ONE triumph over cook (after cook has outdone david at pretty much everything else), means that david will be so much more successful than cook. as i said, i like optimism (its a nice foil to my own attitude), but i just don’t want us to have high expectations and then be disappointed.
bottom line is- everyone needs to chill with the superstar stuff- and the talk about leaving cook in the dust. david is great- TO US. we need to remember that. but of course, what do i know? i’m just some dumb teeny bopper, right?
http://idolforums.com/index.php?showtopic=580276&st=80
Another couple of pictures of “the girl” on this page of IDF. haha And judging by the positioning, David looked back at her after moving on down the line a little. Wowza! Nice look DJ…
Also, yes iTunes pulled all AI songs after the finale, including David Cook’s AI performances. The only one left was the coronation song, TOML.
I don’t think any of us are truly overly optimistic with how David’s career will play out. Too many variables in this business. Expect the best, prepare for the worst. I’m sure there are TONS of talented people out there who never get the right break that we’ll never know about. I prefer to think of us Cheerleaders for David. You know the cheerleaders for the high school football team, who may or may not Crush the other team on any given Friday night. But, you have to believe they will, or you have self fulfilling prophecy. Make it so! but with a grain of salt. LOL!
juliebug -- thanks for the forum link. How much fun!
djasgirl….a dumb teeny bopper YOU ARE NOT!! You are a loyal and dedicated fan and like a couple of others who post here ( you know who you are! ), you worry too much. David WILL be a superstar in the best sense of the word…David would pro-buh-blee be the first to say..”aww, I don’t know about that”..and to be honest, I personally hope his RISE to the STARS is slow & steady. He is not a “flash in the pan” kind of artist. A Superstar in my opinion, does not just sell albums..a Superstar is someone who possesses charisma, is likable & humble, one who’s mission in life is to bring joy to others with their talent. David has all these qualities and more. As far as sales..the initial sales of CRUSH were mostly by his die-hard fans who bought several copies, but since the release and airplay, the current continuing sales are from people who simply like it and it just may hit Platinum. That is an example of exceeding expectations by many! The album should do even better.
BTW.. Superstars are everywhere in all walks of life, in fact, I met several right here at rascal’s..and I know some other Superstars in my personal life.
I hope you continue your zeal and protectiveness of David no matter what. I wish there was more we could do for David for all he’s given us..but all we can do is be “David Followers for Life”.
Given a choice, I would have preferred to have lower first week sales that rose steadily than higher sales that dropped quickly. Crush has finally somewhat stabilized by going down in sales slowly, but at first the sales were almost halved every week drawing a lot of negative press.
The gyrations in sales have affected the charts also. Yes, Crush is a good hit at gold, but it is not a mega hit. Considering it is top 5 all over the country on radio requests (according to fan sites) I would think it would have sold more units by now.
djasgirl -- #78 -- I agree with your rationale about tempering our expectations about David’s commercial success. Frankly, I’m not exactly sure why that matters so much to some of the fans--as long as David continues to make music and can make a living doing it, why should we care whether others “get him” or not? It’s an exciting aspect of our affection for him to see him praised and celebrated, but at the end of the day it’s his music and the heart connection that really matters. I also think we need to define the term “superstar.” Miley Cyrus, despite her current popularity and name recognition, is by no means a superstar, at least not in my book. A superstar, I think, is defined by at least three critical aspects: mass appeal and popularity within their chosen field or genre; significant critical acclaim; and proven longevity. Miley has only one of these in any measure. Few artists can really claim all three. Whether David will ultimately be in that rarefied category will take a number of years to determine.
Uh..Miley Cyrus…I can’t even say her name and “superstar” in the same breath! haha!
Gosh! I hope Miley isn’t one of the “people” David wants to “get to know better” EEK! Is she a brunette this week?
Since a manager is so paramount to the success of an artist, I have been trying to do some research about management companies. Since lots has been written about a lawsuit that Clay Aiken filed against 19/entertainment, I searched Aiken lawsuits hoping to get wiser regarding contracts.
Instead, I found that in 2006 a group of women fans of Aiken sued his managers saying “they were duped” by RCA and Sony. They claim that the companies knew Aiken was gay and they are “aggrieved consumers” who were ripped off and that the managers concealment violated the Federal Trade Communications Act.
And by the way clayaiken.com still lists 19 on there, so I wonder if he did change managing companies.
rena…you have got to be kidding!! A group of women actually sued the record company cause Aiken is gay?
Now I’ve heard everything..And those women called themselves “FANS”?? wow! How sad for Clay. Hopefully that suit was thrown out as frivolous. And that’s all I gotta say about that!
Wow! so much to read, so much digest, so much to enjoy, so many treats to my soul.
#12 bluesky: your analysis of the group picture reminds me of the reasons why I love coming here so much. You analyzed the picture in such a way and put into words what we feel, but do not know how we see it.
jackryan4DA: I regret not seeing your post last night. I would have had aaaaall night to visit them. Too much David is never too much. Give me more, give more, give more!
just warn me. hahaha
I keep telling myself just another 30mts, yeah right!
Kizzi: loved your lingo. I have new words to add to my dictionary, and don’t forget Archugaze,
Your “Ain’t being human a scream!” made me laugh.
Video: OMG!!!it does look like he is checking her out. Hillarious!! maybe for some, sad day for others…. Silverfox, where are you?
10, and 75 hooked: I also wake up to Angels, I even sing his songs, whenever a phrase in his songs is mentioned. Like one of my kids said the other day something about ‘lying on my bed’, and I started singing you know… Angels. They know they can’t say the word ‘Imagine’ in front of me, or ‘all my pictures’, or ‘with you’. Get the picture.
Your other post: ‘By the way I am dark haired (boxed) can be morena, and would undergo a few lifts and tucks, erasures here and there’, was just too much for me.
vermeer: ‘When you went away that last time, it really felt like a limb was cut off suddenly. It was like being in a bad dream when typing in the ND url kept bringing up FB!’
Ditto here, I have said other times how sad I was, so Rascal, just keep the door open. Silverfox, HG, jackryan4DA and many others are all taking good care of us.
silverfox: you are soo right, AI turned into David Archuleta show. And I looooved it.
79 jackryan4DA: ‘But lately, it’s been about getting to know the person. There are some people who I definitely want to get to know better’ Well, my jaw just dropped like a heavy bag, OMG, OMG, OMG. Do I need to say more?
Well, I bet by the time I finally post this there are going to be 70 other posts to read. What a rush! what a rush!
rena- the thing about clay makes me sick. seriously- poor clay! his fans obviously played a big part in his staying in the closet, and that is such a shame. why do they even care?! sorry, but people like that disgust me.
silverfoxe- of course i’ll stand by david! hopefully most of us will still be interested in a year’s time!
rascal- i do agree with your (and silverfoxe’s) definition of a “superstar.” but in the eyes of the general public, aka 15-25 year olds- “the hip crowd,” someone like… rihanna would be considered a superstar. i mean, i like her songs, but i don’t think she’s much of a singer or performer, and i personally think she lacks charisma and talent. but it seems to me like ALL her singles get to #1, and she is INSANELY popular. plus she won that (undeserved) grammy last year (kanye was robbed! love him, BTW). so to me, when people say he’s going to be a superstah, i’m thinking… “you want him to be as popular as chris brown and riri, or bit and xtina? slow doooown.” get what i mean? but ya, i TOTALLY want him to be your definition of a superstar- that would be a dream!
all i want from david is to continue to sing. his voice makes me happy. and his happiness makes me happy. he doesn’t need to be a “superstar” to be happy and successful. thats what i was trying to say. (but i won’t lie- i still want him to win that best new artist grammy SO BAD! but i’ll just have to wait and hope for the best! *fingers crossed*)
silverfoxe #93, DITTO!! Good grief. I don’t know whether to laugh or cry because it is so ridiculous.
djasgirl..I admit we get irrational at times when it comes to David. When I say there has never been another like David, I mean, here’s a young man who with just the sheer power his voice and the delivery of the songs he sang on AI, managed to, for lack of a better word, mesmerize so many people who actually changed their lives for the better. This is a kid who just wanted to “make” it on AI like all the other contestants. It was because of David that many people who never watched AI before & may never watch again, tuned in week after week. Such was the phenomenom called David. He made me start LIVING again with no pretenses. I can’t explain why exactly ( although I’ve tried ) other than to say I am forever grateful..so you ask,..will I be INTERESTED in David in a year’s time? You bet your booty I will! I don’t care if David doesn’t become the mega superstar we all think he will become, I am a full fledged “David Follower” for LIFE! That’s it, plain & simple.
Just so you know..I buh-lieve in Destiny..David is fulfilling his as we speak. David will meet all three of the criteria rascal described as a superstar…it may be a slow & steady climb but get there he will. He is still so young, has so much to learn, so much to share. I envy all his fans who are young like yourself, djasgirl. You have the opportunity to grow with David. To possibly see David as a middle-aged man still making music. You can say you were there at the beginning and hopefully you can laugh about how you used to worry so much about everyone’s high expectations and say to youself..oh my heck..what was I thinking?? hahaha! And who knows. maybe I’ll be around too, cause David is my “Fountain of Youth”!
It’s been posted that Cook outsold our David during AI season. Is this a fact or a presumption based on the fact that Cook outsold David that last week. Do we know for sure that the sales throughout the season were also in Cook’s favor, or was that final week a reaction to Cook winning? Maybe, many like me had already bought David’s songs previously.
I feel that David must become a superstar to continue making music. (re above)
During a recent radio interview David answered that he had not yet made money since making a cd cost lots of money. I was baffled until someone on a fan site wrote up quite a good explanation of why David is not yet making money. Basically, it described the average contract as giving the singer about 15% of the income, HOWEVER, out of that 15% they DEDUCT ALL the expenses that is incurred on behalf of the artist.
David needs to be a superstar since the only sure way to make money is to tour, not sell records, but you have to sell records in order to sell tickets on tour. David has quite a large family to support.
Oh my heck Silverfoxe, that is probably the best thing you have ever wrote(by gosh there have been MANY good ones)! I got that tingly feeling all the way to my toes reading that last post. You have the LOVE for David that I feel too. I hope your “fountain of youth” is the same one I found when David arrived in my life! Bless you my dear! May we be around to enjoy David and his music as long as he brings it!!!
djasgirl, I also fear how there are great expectations on David, put there by both his fans and detractors. In my heart, I want to see David rise above all others, because of all the wonderful feelings and experiences he has given me. And I cringe when I read the hurtful comments of people who celebrate when David slips on the charts. It pains me to read on the popeaters interview that David’s greatest fear is responsibility. ” I guess, because [fans] are just wanting you to do your best. You want to do your best for them and also for your family. I just don’t want to let them down. That’s one of my biggest fears — to disappoint people.”
I don’t want to be a reason for this fear. I want him to sing. I want him to continue in his discovery of songwriting and to believe in his ability and to find out who David Archuleta is.
I was also very pleased to read that David does realize that he will not be able to please everybody. I feel he does have a healthy view on the situation.
Bluesky#12 and HPfanRinnie#20- thanks for the heads-up on the “Details” picture. Bluesky, all this time I just assumed I only had eyes for Archie, not realizing that whoever put those photos together may have intended just THAT.
rena- it is a sure thing that cook outsold david during AI. every week, rickey (AI blogger) had his itunes charts, with popularity bars, showing how the idols sold, and almost every week, cook was higher than david. we dont know the figures, but we know how they compared. and after the finale, sound scan- as in billboard said that david sold over 300k singles while cook sold 900k. and even if cook hadnt had TOML there, he would still have sold roughly 700k that week. so either way, cook outperformed david.
and when you bring up the “supporting his family” thing, what does that mean? i mean, i wont say how i feel about jeff, because i’ll have to use “french” to convey my true feelings. i just wish he would go back to utah and go back to his job so he can support his freakin family. he needs to leave david alone. i dont care about the good reports during the tour. jeff needs to give david space- he shouldnt co-manage his career. that means he’s going to make money based on how well david does- putting even more pressure on david. that leaves a bad taste in my mouth. i hope david will take care of the whole jeff thing soon, because the whole thing is unsettling and makes me question how much of what we see is david, and how much its jeff. “concerned fathers” dont need to manage their kids. i’m 17, and my daddy cares about me, but he doesnt follow me around like a sick puppy. he doesnt breath down my neck. he just lets me be. jeff should try that.
so- if jeff disappears, david won’t have to be a superstar. is that good for u, rena?
silverfoxe- love ur post!
Hi again!
I’m back from work and have only just caught up with reading the posts since the afternoon. Just like Rascal, I respect djasgirl’s objectivity but I have to say I am as optimistic as Silverfoxe regarding David’s career and I’m totally and unapologetically so!
I believe we’re witnessing the Archuwave which sooner than we suspect will sweep America, Canadá, England and then the world. I’m in Brazil and I don’t mind the wait. Besides, I like to think my high expectations are well-founded. It’s not just the sales numbers, but also the many positive reactions to Crush and to David himself in reviews and articles from MTV, Blender, Details, the likes of Sleazak and initially sceptical non-fans. Have you taken the time to read the comments on Youtube on the many video tributes that use Crush? I’ve been happily surprised by the overwhelmingly positive posts by people who didn’t even know David. Some say ‘I heard the song and had to find out who it was’. From where I stand nothing short of a tragedy can stop David and I don’t want to entertain this thought. But what do I know? I’m just a fan. As for Cook, well…I don’t get him and I don’t believe in trying. Totally respect him as a person, though.
I don’t care if David becomes a superstar or not and I highly doubt he aspires to be one either. He certainly has goals, but I don’t think that’s one of them. If he achieves that status, I think it will simply be the offshoot of him striving to share his unique abilities and love of music with his audience. Popularity can be terrific thing, but it doesn’t come without demands which he is clearly learning how to navigate as evidenced by his response to this question in a recent interview:
What is your biggest fear?
“Responsibility, I guess, because [fans] are just wanting you to do your best. You want to do your best for them and also for your family. I just don’t want to let them down. That’s one of my biggest fears — to disappoint people. But there will always be someone who’ll be disappointed in whatever you do. ”
Good answer Superstar…
silverfoxe 97 and valbraz 102, your comments remind me of the quote by Vic Damone when he was asked: Are there any comtemporary singers you like? His response:
“There’s only one kid. I was watching American Idol. The kid who won (David Cook) was a good entertainer, but the other kid (David Archuleta), when I heard him, I said, “This kid has got something.” He’s got a special voice and a special heart. He reminded me of me when I was 17 years old.”
Also, I invite all of you to take a look at how adoringly Mariah Carey looks at David as he sings to her during Idol mentor night. http://www.david-hq.org/photos/displayimage.php?album=109&pos=1
Perhaps we are witnessing a superstar in the making!
djasgirl #101, I didn’t get to meet Jeff so I can’t pretend to know him as a person or as a father to David. Just judging from what David had said in numerous interviews, I have to believe that there isn’t any issue with his dad “not giving him space”. On the contrary, David had said numerous times how his dad is the one person who knows what he wants in music.
During the tour at the barricades, Jeff wasn’t always there and David seemed to come and go as he saw fit when he had time to do fun things such as go running or kayaking with Jason. He could have continued to do song writing which is what he was doing when Jason came knocking on his door.
Even in a most recent interview (PopEater), did he not say “Now that the show’s over, I pretty much can do whatever. I guess [I'd do] the same stuff as now. [My parents] are pretty easy-going. They’ve never been really strict on me…”?
If we can’t believe him, who can we? David never lies so as far as I’m concerned, I get a pretty good picture of his relationship with his dad, and it’s a pretty good one I might add.
I’m not sure where your dislike of Jeff is coming from but I think David’s comments on his parent(s) to date seem to indicate something quite positive and don’t seem to align with your concerns. Do you not believe David?
archangel148..yeah, David is my Fountain of Youth..just sharing the same universe with David is a priviledge.
.the fact that David doesn’t read blogs about himself other than on his MySpace..makes the chances of HIM ever thinking he will disappoint ME in any way as he will never know how & what I feel and to what heights I buh-lieve he will soar…completely nil. He doesn’t know ME.. met me once as this nutty lady..never to give me a second thought again. I use this site to express and share my feelings for David with others who feel the same way with the knowledge that David will never read what we write about him. I hope that others like Brett, who visits once in a while, would tell David that we love him & his music and are huge fans..I don’t think he’s told about our (my) expectations. I have said before that David’s superstardom is not a prerequisite to me being his fan for life. There is nothing that could make me turn away from him..nothing.
I like to think most, if not all my fellow posters here feel the same.
It did pain me when I read about the responsibility he said he feels. But it is so like David to take on the responsibility of making everyone happy. We can help ease his fears by supporting him & his descisions and buying his music.
rascal .. I think your definition of a superstrar is a good one.. and I believe David will be that in every way.
Whatever happens will be what should happen, as David has said things happen for a reason and we just need to learn from it. Wherever his music takes him I know one thing… I will be there… always. I certainly don’t need him to achieve the superstar status to know that his music moves and inspires me like no one ever before… so that makes him my superstar.
David does seem to have a healthy view of himself and how everything fits together.
Trust the Archulator
ebonyangel.. Ah yes..”When You Believe”..a song made even more beautiful by David. The studio version is sublime & makes me cry because he makes the lyrics come to life in my heart and MAKES me WANT to believe..even though I’m not what you would call a “religious” person, it made me believe in the miracle of David. What is even more amazing to me is that he sang both Mariah’s and Whitney’s parts himself beautifully. Was Mariah blown away? You better buh-lieve it!!
As far as discussing David’s finances..the only thing I want or have the right to know is that David gets his share of any money I pay for his music or merchandise. Other than that..it’s none of my business. What & who David chooses to “support” is REALLY not our business, is it?
I had no idea it was getting so late, so I will say G’nite all!
( I know he won’t SEE this, but I hope He will FEEL it! )
David..Sweet dreams, be safe & secure in our love for you always! CONTIGO SIEMPRE CON AMOR!!!
A very good morning to everyone in NotingDavid.
I must tell you my heart is pumping and speeding like a racing car at Fl Race (the FIRST Night Race was held in my country about two weeks ago) when I woke up to hear from the local news that my country’s Foreign Minister is now in Utah, SLC and he is having a meeting with the Governor of SLC. I hope the Minister is a fan of David and while he is there he and the governor have something common to talk about and that is the phenomenal prodigy David James Archuleta! The Minister should know our David because DJA is immensely popular in Singapore, judging from the recent radio airplay of “Crush” on demand, and I am sure he watched AI7 with his teenage children.
I don’t know why nowadays the mention of “Utah in SLC” makes me sit up for attention.
Wishful thinking on my part, I hope this meeting will lead to an invitation to David to perform at the FIRST Youth Olympic Games to be held in our country in 2010 which is so appropriate consider David’s age and his image as a role model. If this happened, that will be the ultimate joy for me. I am gasping for breath while thinking about it. Folks, I am going to pass out!

They see uniqueness written all over David! Haha!
I was telling a friend that I probably can’t resist dark haired, greenish-eyed artists with a winning smile as David often makes me think of Tom Cruise whom I love. But, on second thoughts, what I think they have in common is the undeniable charisma -- something, a spark, if you will, coming from within, that exudes passion. That’s superstar material.
Do you remember Dolly Parton’s reaction to David? He sings this line in his lower register, which by the way, I find beautiful beyond words -- ‘And I don’t recall who said it…’ It weakens her. She clutches her tummy and goes all fangirly. She saw it, too!
Oh, by the way, the Foreign Minister was a former “Arts and Culture” Minister, if I remember correctly. Oh my gosh, I get this tingling feeling just thinking about it!
OMG! The Auchugaze at the girl was at the Providence buses. I was there that day. My grandson and I were mid way through the line along the wall, waiting for our turn. It seemed like an eternity before David got to us. He was so patient with each fan. What a sweetheart!
Superstardom…. I must agree with Rascal’s description, I will also add that archangels do not expect David to become a superstar as a condition to their love and admiration. I certainly do not.
His fans wish him he achieves that, not because we need it, but because we all agree he deserves it. We think he will be happy to have brought so much joy to so many. To make others feel the music and the spirit he feels when he sings, seem to be his main goal, and NOT to be a superstar.
There are many good singers out there, but few get to move so many to tears, or what is even more important, few people, singers or not, inspire others to look at the person in the mirror, and in looking, get motivated to be better, to help someone else, to pay attention to a stranger, to be less judgmental, to try new things, to not fear the challenges.
Yes there are many good singers, but very few David Archuleta’s.
And I am not putting him on a pedestal. My comments are based on your posts and those of other blogs.
As far as his relationship with his dad, it would help to know David’s views on family ties and freedom of choices. I can only guess family is number one for him. I can only guess he has being taught that we are free to choose for ourselves, and that free agency is a gift on its own. I can only guess he knows something about being responsible for his own decisions, and that while one may be able to choose your actions, but not the consequences. I can only guess, right?
I think he has a strong relationship with his family, and I also believe that if David asked his dad to leave him alone, Jeff would probably agree. Had David chosen to go on a mission, he would have done that at age 19, and would have gone to a foreign country without his parents for two years.
David has said he does not feel deprived, nor that his father is too strict with him. David has demonstrated to be a very smart and mature teenager and in many ways, not just in the songs he chooses to sing. Don’t you think that if he felt against the wall, he would say something? If he can stand up to how he wants his video to portray, if he can stand up to nonsense questions and criticism, don’t you think he would say something? Trust him. That is all I can say.
Well, I guess I am talking to myself. Silverfox, would you interview me?
anyone…
Hey panamom! I imagine many have gone to bed! I tend to be a night owl plus I’m on the West Coast but tonight I’m going to sleep early for a change but wanted to say hi and good night! I am going to fall asleep with David’s sweet voice in my head and heart…
Gosh, there is so much to read in this thread that I have spent the last 2 hrs trying to digest every thing that has been said from post 1. Many great contributions and links from the regular commenters.
Panamom has more or less summed up everything for me on her last two posts. I have nothing more to add, I am so tired with excitement today; I am going to take an afternoon nap.
pananmom #114 and #115 -- Great posts
Superstardom will be the icing on the cake for David and his fans. You are bang on in that David has the ability to MOVE people and have them want to look at themselves in the mirror and to want to change, for the better. He has reached so many already!
As to Jeff, I believe that David has shown already that he is able to stand up for what he believes in; eg. the girl in his Crush video doing the cartwheel. David has been nothing but supportive of his Dad when talking about him and I believe him. By his own admission, David has said that it is impossible for him to lie. -- remember, something to the effect, about him saying that his friends kid him because he can’t keep quiet when they are playing a practicel joke on someone.
And you are right panamom in that we can only guess… but I think that, based on all the interviews, fan stories etc. that we are making an educated guess.
Good Morning y’all,
It’s Thursday and I naturally had to stop by and see what new and exciting threads had been posted. Oh my heck so much to digest. i wasn’t sure if anyone had been over to Fans of David this morning, but I would recommend that you read this story by a young lady with the initials of KT… Awesome it will bring you to tears. In one paragraph called (Makes Perfect Sense) she describes how you felt when she heard David say that Eva Cassidy was a special artist for him. She saw the comparison immediately when listening to David perform .
1. His music doesn’t originate from him or end with him but flows through him,
2. His humility and shyness on stage boldly states that this is not about me but the music.
3. He does not want to compromise his convictions for the sake of a dollar or fame.
4. His music is 3 dimensional affecting the body, mind and soul.
I feel his music. It doesn’t matter the venue, the song or the setting, everytime he sings I feel his music.
Right on baby………………..I couldn’t have said it better.
Dean Kaelin said, “You can trust David, he is the real deal. What you see is what you get. He’ll never let you down”. Amen…..Alot is coming his way and very fast, much faster than he ever thought. I believe he will handle whatever comes his way with class and dignity.
November 11th can’t come soon enough for me…….
I love the latest PopEater interview, because David has given some good answers.
I don’t care about David’s sales, I care only his music, and I am so excited to hear his album, I am feeling so bad I have to wait one more week (after the release date) for the delivery…
Jeff topic:- be honest, I envy David of having kind of family support for his dream. He is talented, but he might not be the same David if lacking the support from his parent. I knew why it is resentful to see Jeff’s all around, and be mentioned in every David’s interview. However, I believe one day Jeff and David would work out, because I do believe Jeff loves David. When you love someone, you will do whatsoever is best for him. Just like us, fans, to try out best to support David, only you and I think different. :p
Hey everyone… love your posts panamom, sorry you were feeling so alone!
I just heard another radio interview… from memphis on FOD. Alot of the same questions, but it is so awesome to hear his voice. One thing that stood out for me- he mentioned again what I recall (post #107) and what I admire so much about David. “things happen when they should happen” and ” we need to learn from it”. I can relate this to my own experience, I watched AI for the first time last Jan. because that’s what needed to happen to me… David needed to happen to me! haha
Am I glad?.. oh yeah, and again for this very special place to share and for all of you … gush gush!
I am selfish. I want David to be popular enough to be able to put out a couple albums a year and tour so I can watch him perform. His music and sound connects with me-it is hard to explain but it raises my spirits and makes me smile or weep. Music flows through him and right into me. What is that magic?
Rascal I love your definition of what it takes to reach that sublime spot of musical success and stardom. Time will tell. I guess what we oldtimers are excited about as we have seen it before and watched them become superstars and when we first began to watch David we become really excited because we recognize the possibilities. What I am so excited about are these blogs and sites where we can talk about it, wonder and drool. National debt or not isn’t this a great time to be alive!!!!!
dma, “national debt or not isn’t this a great time to be alive”? AMEN. Can we get a witness? David brings so much joy to my life. Hard to feel down. It’s lovely to share with all here at Noting David. Thanks!
amen!!!
#124 I agree with you 100%. David makes me feel completely optimistic even during these troubled times. What can I say, the kid just brings me joy
dma..very good to be alive indeed..however, I have to disagree about one thing…I have lived 61 years and have never seen anyone quite like David…not Elvis, not the Beatles, who reached superstar status per rascal’s definition. I can’t think of anyone else who came up in my lifetime. David is in a class by himself in so many ways. David is loved and admired by fans of ALL ages…Elvis & the Beatles fan base consisted of mostly young people. That’s just one difference..but my point is, there has been no other like David in my lifetime. BTW..I am a fan of Elvis and The Beatles, (John, Paul, & George..awesome musicians & songwriters! )..I expect David will be just as awesome as a songwriter. Also, we are so invested in David thanks in part to our technology that has allowed us to follow him almost contiuously..it’s like he became a part of our families. After AI, where he was stifled, we were privileged to see the magic David created in concert and we fell further under his spell. There has never been another like David.
Other than that..I agree with everything else!!
It’s been fascinating watching the development of DA’s career, fanbase, chart performances, and now, management company he signed with. I love the psychological impact that DA has had on his fans and the general public. That’s always been my “niche” interest in seeing how this phenomenon is playing out daily.
Maybe it’s just me, but since day one, when I first came across this little Angel that is David, bantering jovially and with that endearing way of his with Ryan Seacrest after the Shop Around performance, I knew then that this kid is special. Why? Not only because he can sing and has talent, but because of the mere little fact he made me smile for the first time in months after a grief period of a family’s death. How can I repay him? When he’s not even aware that he did this? So I decided to sign on the net and wrote and wrote about him. To my pleasant surprise, as time passes, I realize he has touched others in profound ways as well. I mean, I really haven’t heard of such a thing happening in music recently, let alone in the pop world, and let alone on AI of all shows!!!
Unlike most people though, I didn’t and never got really hooked on all the speculations as to what songs he would sing, what he does with his free time, etc. To me, I have always known that I love to be surprised by whatever DA chooses to do. He’s shown he can sing anything, as AI weekly contest indicated. His choices so far have been spot on. I guess it is fun for the fans to speculate, as we do with sports teams, financial markets, politics, etc., but I must ask you guys/gals: wouldn’t it be much more fun to be surprised by what David chooses to sing, do, who to date, etc.? There is a definition above for what constitutes a superstar, but really why does that matter? Why are we so wrapped around the idea if he’s a superstar or not? I mean, Mozart did die penny-less, but does that mean he’s not great?
Well, while you’re at it, why stop there? Why not define what is a fan? What is a fan really? Are we going to let him be and do what he wants or are we there to impose on him what he should do, sing, etc. to be “successful”? It’s not easy to separate ourselves from our idols, but when you do, you will realize that you will appreciate them more, much much more. That’s why I always admire DA from a distance…it’s better that way, at least for me. Set yourself free, as he did with his music….just my 2 cents.
So many great posts here today! And I agree, isn’t David Archuleta a brilliant ray of sunshine in a pretty dark world right now?
Vermeer #105: I sooo agree with you. I have to believe David.
Hi Refnaf!: Beautifully put!
Panamom: “There are many good singers out there, but few get to move so many to tears, or … inspire others to look at the person in the mirror, and in looking, get motivated to be better, to help someone else, to pay attention to a stranger, to be less judgmental, to try new things, to not fear the challenges.” That’s so true, and amazes me every day.
daisawesome..your 2 cents & then some! haha! Don’t take this the wrong way, please…but I don’t get why you think we are imposing our WILL on David. On the contrary, we are thrilled that he knows he wants and is doing what he wants. What we want for David is for him to reach his goals, continue living his dream, make beautiful music, and whatever else that is his hearts desire. Let me say once again, for me, David being a huge superstar is NOT a prerequisite to my devotion as a fan. I think in time he will reach that status…it’s not a stretch. Besides, it is David’s destiny.
Also..most of David’s fans ARE admiring him from afar.
From as far as the other side of the world! But today’s technology allows us to be “close” to David in a way. And David also uses the internet and other forms of technology, ie..My Space, texting & cell phone messaging to stay close to his fans.
You can no more ask me to cut off my wanting to keep up with David than you could as me to cut off my own children. But you’re welcome to try…good luck!! hahaha!
My son the Psych major, has analyzed my “abduction” this year. He says I have a karmic debt that I owe David and that is why I am such a devoted fan. haha
Of course, this is the same son who asked in May during my voting frenzy and paying him to text votes (I had a voting party with him and his friends every Tues in May) if i loved David Archuelta more than him. LOL
Good news is he and his friends all have Crush on their iPods and have become fans and are counting down to his album with me. When Crush came out they wanted to know if this was the same guy that was on AI. When the album cover came out, they were impressed!
David to be on the Today show Nov. 11…
http://mjsbigblog.com/idol-appearances/
whoo hoo!
Kizzi…Hi there!!! A karmic debt? well that’s as good an explanation as any I’ve heard. Do you think you’ll ever want to pay that debt in full? oh my heck..NO!
About the album photo…some of the women here at work were also impressed when they saw my desktop wallpaper photo of David’ cover photo. They couldn’t buh-lieve it was “cute lil’ David” from AI..
It’s also one of the sliding photos on my screen saver..and I just let my computer go to screen saver every 15 mins or so just to LOOK at him..is that not CRA-ZEH?? Oh, to be 17 again..*sigh*.
David has a new blog! He’s spoils us so, doesn’t he?

My album is almost done!
Hey guys! We’re getting close to making final decisions on which songs are going to go on the album, and it’s pretty exciting! The last few days have mainly been recording still, and just finalizing the songs to see which ones will be the best fit. If you’ve been reading the alloy.com blogs I’ve been doing, then you probably already know about what happened this weekend with my brother and sisters visiting to come to Miley Cyrus’s sweet 16. It was a lot of fun, and it was cool being able to spend some time with them. It was just unbelievable how big of a birthday party it was! I’ve never seen anything like that haha. I put some pictures up on the alloy blog, but I have some more to show to you guys too. So last night I helped out Brooke and her Husband, Dave, with rearranging their stuff in the bedroom haha. I don’t think I was a whole lot of help, but it was still fun. We listened to music, talked, and… moved stuff around lol. Brooke’s been in Arizona for the past week or so, so it’s nice to have her back! But she’s actually going to try and give me a haircut here before I leave to do some more recording. Brooke’s awesome haha. We only have a little bit of time for that though so I better get going and I’ll talk to you guys later!
P.S. A song I’ve really liked lately is Little Things by Colbie Caillat. So if you’re looking for a song to listen to and you haven’t heard it before, you should check it out.
awestruck..thanks for the heads-up! Nov 11.VID!! ( Very Important Day) on my David Calendar…Album drops, David on Today Show!
juliebug..There he goes again…plugging someone else’s song..
does he not know that YES, whatever he tells us to do, we will do..so excuse me. I have to find “Little Things” by Colbie Caillat..only I’ve never HEARD of Colbie??
silverfoxe -- Like you, I am a David fan for life. Whatever happens, happens. All I want is what he wants for himself. Simple, isn’t it!
Ah….ain’t life grand!
Haha…almost done with my entry here and suddenly my browser closed… lost it! dang it!
Good thing Rascal has a new post
ooohhh kizzi! that is simple! and perfect
Gosh, I’ll never catch up here. (Fun reading, tho
) Hi to everybody.
I am loving that unbearably cute archugaze clip
http://i328.photobucket.com/albums/l347/beebeepix/David%20Archuleta/archu_gaze.jpg
and EVERYTHING ELSE popping up.
slvrfox (#120) I am so glad you mentioned that piece over at FOD. I definitely recommend reading the whole thing, y’all. It’s wonderful.
I appreciate the cautious optimism about David’s superstardom, but I do know that like Eva Cassidy, when people sit in the same room (and for many, just on TV as we can all attest to) and hear him, they get the same unmistakable soul stirring, jaw-dropping zing. That is the real deal, and David will I believe spread that any which way he can. I’m just so thrilled he has the world wide launch pad vs. the small coffeehouse launch pad like Eva did. But I think their motives are in synch and he will share the magic no matter what. That is supreme success in my book. It’s about the music.
karmic debt! new blog! got to check that new singer!! why are there only 24 hours in a day. Give me more archuhours
I LOVE Colbie Caillat ~ she’s one of my favorites! Love that video too ~ she says Craz-eh just like David does! Beautiful eyes too, and beautiful girl. Love her voice. She and Sara (space) Bareilles.
