Buddhism glorifies the path to spiritual enlightenment itself (the Dharma), which is attained in part through meditation. Meditation is really nothing more or less than a training, or a practice, designed to develop an awareness and use of the wisdom mind as opposed to the more common human inclination (particularly in the West) of relying on the thinking mind. Buddhism presupposes that the thinking mind is quite limited compared to the wisdom mind, which is in many ways analogous to the godly state described in every major world religion, whether it is articulated as being at one with Christ, the Holy Spirit, or with the source of all things. It takes the individual, the ego, out of the equation and allows a freer, broader, deeper, and more compassionate perspective of existence.
David’s acknowledgment that the source of his potency as an artist is “not him” suggests his awareness of the fact that it is beyond his own individuation, that his ability to allow the wisdom mind–what he might call God or Christ or the Holy Spirit–to drive his performance is what gives him his power to touch hearts. This connection is not the exclusive domain of any one religion or practice but a universal truth that anyone can experience. David offers to those who are open to it an opportunity to feel that connection through him. It is not a connection with David. It is a connection with our own wisdom of the infinite by way of David’s remarkable and beautiful example.
There is a great deal of lovely symbolism in the imagery of Buddhism, evidenced here in R4D’s stunning use of Buddhist thangka elements. Here is a great resource for more about these symbols, but I’d like to at least make mention of the lotus flower, the petals within which our meditating David sits, and which blossom around him. The lotus (padma) is an important symbol in India and of Buddhism. It refers to the complete purification of body, speech and mind, and the blossoming of wholesome deeds in liberation. The red lotus, seen here, signifies the original nature and purity of the heart. It is the lotus of love, compassion, and all other qualities of the heart.
I don’t know if Rabid selected the red lotus on purpose, but given David’s ability to create heart connections with his music, it could not have been a more appropriate choice. Special thanks to Rabid for allowing me to premiere this magnificent composite.

When I first heard David’s words, “It’s not coming from me,” it completely blew me away. David is someone who feels comfortable in a place that I want to visit, a place of love and compassion and peace.
Yes, thank you rascal for pointing out that this is not a connection with David, but rather, for those who are ready, David can provide the spark that awakens our hearts and sets us on a spiritual quest. What a blessing it is to be touched by David’s music and by his unconditional love.

YES this fits for me. David makes me THINK about how I want to live my life, what kind of a person I want to be. Spiritually and otherwise. What is most revealing for me is the fact that I want to share the joy I feel with my new found knowledge with others.

awestruck, I’m with you, having witnessed the beauty that is David, I feel strongly it is not enough to just love him, I want to be like him. Clearly he is a vessel, a conduit for that something that is universal and that binds us all, that which is recognized as Christ and the Holy Spirit by those of the Christian faith, and higher power or the source of all things by anyone who has an inkling that there is more to us than our physical bodies.
I am very grateful that through David, we’ve been awakened to feel this amazing sense of joy and thankful that we can share this together.
Hello Rascal, and everyone here, long-time-no-see, ha-ha,
I have been away for a week to a country that does not allow tourists to carry IT gadgets with them, except cameras, but with restriction on the zooming capabilities. We were completely cut off from other civilisations. My friends were trying to wean me from my ODD. And I am happy to say they have not succeeded. The moment I reached home, I came to NotingDavid, ha-ha. I thought things would be a little quiet down but am pleasantly surprised to find there was so much buzzing during the period I was away.
Rascal, you never failed to astound us with your vast knowledge outside your basic fields. There is no limit as to what you can and will continue to educate us and attract very interesting commentaries from the passionate, intelligent and eloquent community here in NotingDavid and thereby introduce more lively discussions and contributions into the subject matter. I am not eloquent and therefore most time is in reading mode, except when I get excited or annoyed!
Everyday I am learning and practicing the wise teachings of Buddha. Another way to learn is through the observations and reflections of human behaviours and my reaction to them -- this I get a lot from visiting the various sites on David James.
Rascal, NotingDavid remains the site that produces the best positive energy, and I am grateful for it. I am here to receive and share the merits that are floating in this community, albeit the fact that we are thousands of miles apart. Thank you once again.

May I also add Rascal one unique aspect of the lotus plant which makes it an ultimate symbol for Faith in whatever form? And that it is able to produce a bloom with remarkable beauty from the depths of muddy ponds or streams. Such great metaphor for people trying to do good amidst the world’s realities.
I have observed that at night, the flower closes and sinks underwater and at dawn it rises and opens again and amazingly, remains untouched by the impurity of its surroundings! (If any of you are wondering how I was able to see that — let’s just say it was part of my HS project many, many moons ago!)

Anyway, I had checked out last night before seeing this new post, so it was truly a pleasant welcome to see one of Rabid’s latest creations this morning. How absolutely stunning this is, especially with David’s beatific expression.
He’s so full of positive energy, which definitely comes from being connected to a higher source. That David, at his young age, understands such power and energy as coming from beyond him when he sings is simply breathtaking.
He’s something else, which is why, I suspect, our ODD goes into overdrive.

There are a couple of books out now on music and the brain (“This is Your Brain on Music” being one) but I find they often overlook music’s spiritual dimension — that longing for connection through expression that makes us human.
The connection that links us all to David’s music.

I am neither a theist nor a spiritualist, but yes I believe that Rascal speaks of something that DOES exist and IS true. There is a universal “something” that David brings out in all of us, a connection to our own emotional, caring, generous, and empathetic sides that modern society represses in us. It’s like the experience of feeling love only because we give to others. When we care for others, we feel joy.
The fact that David is the generous heart he is, I think, is tied to his power to move us, and to inspire us to be better ourselves. I was over at the artist thread on IDF just now, responding to chenson’s great blog, thinking: well, if he had this great voice and interpretive skill while also being egotistical and unlikable, I would totally not be affected in the same way by his music. But then I thought: how could that even be possible? You simply can’t separate the two. Whatever drives his music that makes it so powerful — the commitment he brings to it — it is that same commitment he brings to the way he interacts with people every day. I recall Rascal comparing David’s singing to “an act of love.”
Ronaldsf, I fully agree with everything you said, especially with that whole ideas, as rascal already explored, that David’s singing is an act of love.

I, too, am trying to find a balance between my life from before and after David, but I’m failing more often than not. He is fascinating.
JackRyan, I love your added knowledge of the lotus flower. I’m too tired to delve deeply into this thought, but I’m feeling a metaphor between that flower’s closing and David’s wise choice to reject the western trend toward early sexuality.

Kait -- I think this is the balance, here and now; we live our lives, love our loved ones, care for our community and then we have this. I think it is a GIFT to hear David’s music, experience the power it brings for transformation (which is personal to each of us), and have this group of e-colleagues. Or, as my son, the Star Trek-NG groupie and Psych PhD major, has told me as I share my FAN adventure with him, “resistence is futile.” LOL

Rascal, beautiful description of the ‘connection’ David shares with us! Rabid’s latest composite is colorfully stunningly. Thank you both!
I find it interesting that whether we are viewing Rabid’s composite of David with angel wings, or wearing a superman cape, or sitting in meditation surrounded by Buddhist symbols -- the message is still the same. To me, these images reflect David’s universal, as well as, otherworldly appeal. If any of these Rabid photos were animated, I could easily visualize David, with outstretched hand, singing “take my hand and join us, and the world will live as one.”
Many of us struggle to articulate the effect David has on us. So we try to use words, photos, symbols, etc., but they don’t quite totally capture ‘what just happened’. So, while David’s appeal is universal, his impact is indescribably personal. (yes, and indescribably delicious, too!)

Ah, yes. This is our now. I have zero intention of ever losing the joy David has brought to me. Keeping up with him and his music will be a part of my life.
I do, however, know that at least some of the time, I am spinning my wheels, looking for news when I could condense the online time to, say, an hour a day. Someone said to me that his music should be the soundtrack to the story of our lives, rather than the story itself.

I am always amazed by all the material there is out there being written about a humble 17 year old man who just wants to sing. Has anyone done a bibliography on all the sites and fan clubs and blogging sites about David? I am just curious because new things keep popping up that I was unaware of although Rascal might have known about them. Such a talent we have to swoon over!!!!

#19 Ronaldsf- Thank you so much for the links on the artists threads. I love reading those kinds of things! I was given a little bit of an investigative mind, so when I first discovered David, I would listen to his performances over and over to discover all the little nuances that were hidden in his performances.When my sister asked me why I kept listening over and over again, I likened it to easter eggs on DVDs. I knew things were hidden there, only trouble is, I never knew what they were called. I am not a student of music, so I didn’t know the words, or how difficult those performances were, until I started reading what musicians had said about them. It helped me to give names to all those wonderful discoveries. And, reading those posts, helped me feel vidicated over my feelings for David’s music.

well, well! rascal, so happy to have you back so soon! I was very pleased and surprised when I logged on a couple of hours ago to see another masterpiece by Rabid and wonderful post by you. I linked on your suggestion, “a great resource” about the different Buddhist symbols and their meanings. Very informative. I find it amazing that we all have a personal connection to David and now we are all interconnected as “followers of David” to each other. We can analyze and disect all the different reasons we have chosen to “follow” David in his journey…his voice, his musicality, his humility, his goodness, his beauty, even his purity, but it’s almost a mystery, so why even try anymore? I say we all “chose” to go along this amazing journey with David, but did we really have a choice? It was “love at first listen”, then it grew to a deeper, more emotional level. His joy is our joy. Anything, good or bad, that affects David will be felt by all of his “followers” through this Heart Connection. He is like our bread & water. ( I forgot who said this on a previous post ).
rascal, you know some of David’s followers,..uh, fans may be “offended” by the illustration likening him with Buddhism, especially his “religious” fans who refuse to “see” David in any other way but “their way” like the negative comments about the Album Photo, because in their eyes, it didn’t portray David as a sweet, smiling, boy. As if a PHOTO could actually encompass the Real David..his heart & soul. I read that David was just playing and joking around with the fans when the photo of David’s meditating pose was taken, however a fan who was there and was photographed with David in one of the poses ( he did more than one ), told me he knew the poses AND the mantras. It doesn’t in any way mean he is a Buddhist ( as if that could be bad! ), just that if he does meditate with mantras, it may explain his inner peace and aura of light around him. In a way, even though we all would like to say we “know” David…he is an enigma, a beautiful, passionate, musical enigma. I will be one of his faithful “followers” for life.

silverfoxe, you bring up an interesting issue. I was a tiny bit concerned that marrying David with Buddhism via a Buddhist imagery would make some people uncomfortable, not that I think there is anything wrong with any of this because we are talking about David as he relates to the universality of that “something” most of us feel inside of ourselves and which is also what connects us all ultimately, regardless of gender, race, religion, age, what have you. It would be nice if we (and I may be thinking of those with deep religious faith who might be bothered by this and if no one is offended, I’m sorry in advance for assuming a little) could transcend even religion itself to get to the core of our humanity, the universal love that is common to us all and not fret over the different ways of connecting to David when in the end we are really talking about the same thing. It’s just a different expression.
I have always been impressed with how David is able to be open enough to hear the great message in the song Imagine in spite of the lyrics that outright talk about imagining a world with “no religion”. The fact that he is not hung up on it even though he himself has an abiding faith is simply remarkable to me. That is why and how he radiates light and he inspires me to be more like him.

It was his official site then, when he was still starting and before he joined Star Search. BUT, it is very telling and I can think of 4 big reasons why it is a must-visit site even if defunct:
1. David kept a JOURNAL!!!! for 7 months. I’d say it is a must-read for those who want a peek into how plans were being made and some in-roads being prepared at that time for David’s career. (e.g. a KidActors member just like Haley Joel Osment)
2. Has some photos some of us may not have seen
3. I think this is just the 2nd or 3rd site I have seen that listed his early recording of Kelly’s A Moment like This.
4. Link to StarSearch where the stories on the performances are made available .
A CONFESSION: I have been a David Archuleta fan since StarSearch days. Altho he won the Jr Singer category, there was a round for the Champion of the Champions and the kid who eventually won was a Filipino — so that was when I saw The Archuleta 1st. Note that this was the time that his vocal paralysis started. So I always wondered when he will stage his comeback

#23 Kait: I like that…”the soundtrack of our lives.” I think it is a new sound, a new beat to the rhythm of my life. Whoa -- I am really liking this thought here.
I have embraced being a fan but I did go through a period of questioning “why me, why this, why now.” Being a fan seemed so much more about taking and also I found a need for action, to do deeds and have had to find an outlet for that.
So, I have been incorporating my fan activities into my life and more and more as my family, friends and colleagues become aware of David’s artistry through the media (and me), the more I can dialogue with them. Some still have that knowing glint in their eyes and restrained smile on their face when I talk about David, AND, I am chipping away at their bias regarding David’s age and physical beauty—it is about the artistry and they are GETTING IT!
Did I mention Persistence is my middle name? Ok, ok, sometimes my middle name can be Bold. LOL

Abrra: I was just thinking yesterday I have learned new superlative words and phrases this year on this David Adventure and I have run out of those phrases in the English language.
Just yesterday, I thought I needed to research superlatives in other languages. I think that is why people are using the “Archu-” isms to describe David and his art.

Aww, I was having trouble finding my Ballad on IDF so I google searched for it and this other site had posted it. Agh, when I saw it was Idletards and that they were borne out of VoteForTheWorst I should’ve heeded my own advice and not peeked in.
Oh well, at least the only thing that unites the people there is cynicism, which means they have no relevance whatsoever. Maybe my next poem should be a parody of the professional cynics and do-nothings of the world. :p

Friends, with your permission, I want to go back for a moment to rascal’s post.
Rascal writes that David has acknowledged that the “source of his potency as an artist is ‘not him’” and that this “connection is not the exclusive domain of any one religion or practice but a universal truth that anyone can experience.”
Kindredspirit also touched on the universality of this experience: “I find it interesting that whether we are viewing rabid’s composite of David with angel wings, or wearing a superman cape, or sitting in meditation surrounded by Buddhist symbols -- the message is still the same. To me, these images reflect David’s universal, as well as, otherworldly appeal.”
Rascal’s post and kindredspirit’s comment made me think of Joseph Campbell’s book, The Hero with a Thousand Faces, that I read in college. Campbell grew up Catholic, but his life study was the universality of the great themes of life, the great myths, throughout the world. The themes of the hero/heroine, the quest for love or wisdom or transcendence occur throughout the world, but the visual shape they are given, the characters and the setting fit the local circumstance. Rabid’s use of capes or wings or the padma are, as kindredspirit pointed out, all manifestations of the same thing.
I see David as firmly grounded in his religion, but not confined by it. As you watch him interact with fans and media, you can see that he approaches everyone with an open heart and unconditional love. He is not a missionary for his faith, he simply IS, and that is quite powerful. Somehow, from the template of his faith, he has found the universal connection that is beyond religious boundaries and beyond words.

For those of us who view life from a particular religion, for those of us who have left a religious tradition, for those of us who are seeking a spiritual path and for those of us who are not, the appeal of David and his music is still strong. Music, as spirit, doesn’t need to go through our thinking mind, but connects directly with our heart. David’s music can take us to a place beyond words, a universal place of compassion and love.

I have often thought that David is highly non-judgmental. He is in the “Now” and accepts those around him for who and what they are.
When I read your reference to “The Hero with a Thousand Faces” I was reminded of Carol Pearson’s “The Hero Within.” One of the hero archetypes described, “The Innocent,” in on a quest for the return of happiness. She talks about the Innocent’s achievement of “oneness with the divine” and further describes such as “a sense of ‘Aha!’ in which the meaning of the universe or your own life is revealed,” “a sudden welling up of joy or peace,” “a feeling that the divine is within you,” “a sense of awe at the wonder of the nature, the universe or life itself,” and “a feeling of being absolutely where you ought to be.” She discusses at length the “Wise Innocent.” She also discusses our yearning as we go through the cycle of life to return to “Innocence.” This has a high level of synchronicity with my experience with David’s music.

I was really intrigued by David’s early journal. Correct me if I’m wrong, but it looks like he was aiming to break into a career even before Star Search? Also, he mentions a lot of meetings with various people; were these label people? And it looks like they were also shopping heavily for a voice coach? His dad and him had a lot more connections than I realized. Wow, all that stuff must have been really expensive, too.
davidfanLIZ, Kizzi, TOfan -- I also got chills when I read your observations. I’ve always liked Joseph Campbell, having seen parts of the PBS television documentary ” Joseph Campbell and the Power of Myth” in which he was interviewed by Bill Moyers. I also see correlations with David in Jung’s concept of universal archetypes (the child archetype in particular) and Campbell’s exploration of the ‘hero’s journey’. There are some very powerful chords that David is striking -- and I don’t just mean musical. Thank you all for sharing your insights.

David brings so much joy to our lives. Some David per day keeps the doctor away, yes? Maybe he was reacting to your friend’s ODD more as a symptom of something else? Whatever it is, the real solution is probably not a ban on David.

reason # 101 Why I am so happy I am divorced. That would be the day when I was told what I can not see or hear regarding David. On serious note, I will admit to being an internet rat. It doesn’t inspire a lot of face to face with significant others. Perhaps after some time, your friend can come back on a scaled back basis, like weekly. I have been re-reading Carol Pearson’s “A Hero Within.” Last time I picked up this book was in the late 1980’s. Carol is currently the Director of the James MacGregor Burns Academy of Leadership and a Professor of Leadership Studies in the School of Public Policy at the University of Maryland College Park. Her website discusses Archetypes, “Archetypes provide the deep structure for human motivation and meaning. When we encounter them in art, literature, sacred texts, advertising—or in individuals or groups—they evoke deep feeling within us.”
Pearson says Archetypes can help you:
•Better understand your own journey
•Increase communication between your conscious and unconscious minds
•Trigger a greater sense of meaning and fulfillment in your life
•Inspire and motivate others
•Cope more effectively with difficult people
•Have greater flexibility to respond to the challenges of life
•Be more effective within your family, workplace, and community context.
She also talks about how meeting an particular “archetype” can trigger a complementary “archetype” in ourselves. This resonates very deeply with me. Seems Archuleta’s “archetype” is triggering an “archetype” within me that is joyous and transformational.

Hmmm, you and Abbra both give me the idea to add a whole new category on my site: FAN VIDEOS! (Select choices of course)
I have to use this weekend to catch up on some pressing work for next week (yeah, you guessed it: creating All Things David was part of my procrastination -- ha ha), but hopefully I can expand the site in more meaningful ways next weekend.
Anyway, silverfoxe, sounds like that husband needs to chill! Thank goodness I’m still single (and can thus indulge my ODD tendencies without anyone censoring me).

Sigh. Well, I guess nice except that she reinforces the DJs’ opinion of David as this silly little boy who is desperate to please and can’t to say no to anyone (like his dad, briefly mentioned, ouch). Jumping off the roof? Maybe she was so “in the bubble” during AI and the tour as well as focused on her own career that she didn’t notice the “bad dad” press. Well, at least she credited David with some improvement in his need to please.
Of course, Brooke, unlike mere fans, would have firsthand knowledge if David is still struggling with “pleasing” issues. Unlike many fanatical fans who maintain that whatever David chooses is best, I’ve thought that his unwillingness to even try to get that awful tour suit changed was one sign that he is far from being as assertive as he needs to be in the music industry. Brooke’s interview just confirmed that.
As irrational and inconsistent as it seems, I still hope that David’s devotion to the integrity of his music will give him the strength to demand what HE wants, at least as long as it takes to finish his album and plan his first tour.

On a serious note, it sounds like the husband has some real control and relationship issues, and that there are some boundaries that *she* needs to establish with *him*. I’m more than a little bit concerned for her. Maybe as someone suggested, after some time she can return to David with some limiting rules. But I don’t know, like I said, I think there’s another problem here…

Isabella -- I believe that David has shown us that he makes choices that are important and core for him and stand firm by those choices. I think he still has much to define in his life and is looking at things from a more flexible perspective because of his youth and his non-judgemental nature. It seems to me that he has the inner strength to not go along with the crowd so I am thinking he stands up for what is important to him.
His vblogs are fascinating to me as he shows different facets of his personality. Sometimes his inner child shines through and you just want to go all parental. I think his first vblog on his Myspace page and the most recent one are from his inner child--his youthfulness is in full bloom. Then we get his more mature interviews and then his ageless music. So he runs the gambit from wise old soul to sweet, idealistic, cheerful teen--no wonder we are enthralled with “All Things David.”
ronaldsf..yeah it’s nutty! This husband does not want to hear his voice! I think maybe he may have overheard her talking to another ODD’er about David and she may have been gushing way OTT…I can’t IMAGINE how anyone can be OTT about David! hahaha! You know how we all have described him…hot, gorgeous, delicious, etc..well, I HAVEN’T, but others have..so maybe he just thought it was jus’ too much, jus’ too much!! I guess I shouldn’t joke, cause they do have issues. But really, it’s not like David is a threat to him or any body else’s “significant other”…His “lover” is his music, as rascal said..and it will be for probably a good long time! I don’t think David is looking for a flesh & blood “love” and when he is ready, it won’t be with a middle aged ODDer. Now thay IS funny!
I have another story and this time the “joke” was on me!
My sis, who is now an OTT ODD sufferer, sent me a text message on Thursday from the airport in Alb, telling me she was on her way to Salt Lake! She had some business there. All her message said was “on my way to Utah, hope to see David or his family” I was at a grocery store and almost ran my cart into another shopper!..I called her and she said she was on her way to Salt Lake on some business and wanted to toy with me! HaHa! Can you IMAGINE me talking and LOL on the phone about David in the middle of the fresh vegetable isle?? I got some very strange looks…and some smiles too! Anyway, she was able to attend a game while there, and she said EVERYONE she talked to (she talks more than I do) LOVES David!! He’s UTAH’s DARLING!! They are looking forward to his CONCERTS in Utah!! What??

Some time back (and on another blog I think), I was reflecting on the same sort of thing, having run across the cycle in Campbell’s book. Here’s what I was thinking, it was one of my first posts after lurking fah-evahhh. It was when I was trying to figure out what the big attractor was with David. (Now I know, it’s all of the above and then some. Resistance is futile- hahahaha -- got that right!!)

“Lately, I’ve been reflecting on a more subconscious factor that may be operating behind the scenes, for me, and that’s the “hero’s journey”, a la Joseph Campbell. The power of myth intrigues me—we all love our heroes, don’t we?!?!!—and David’s journey is classic. I’ll try to keep this short and just make just a few analogies to the typical myth cycle:
The Call. [David's powerful drive to sing for us]
Crossing the First Threshhold. [auditions for A.I.; getting "passed through"]
In the Belly of the Whale. [being in the A.I. bubble]
The Road of Trials. [the performances, week after week, the work, the being judged]
The Conquest of the Monster. [conquering the music business; getting signed]
David has touched each stepping stone on the hero’s journey with grace and humor and delight. It’s that effervescent personality that got me hooked. Oh yeah… and that VOICE!
I’ll be cheering David on in this journey he’s embarked on as he slays all the dragons (doubters and nay-sayers), wielding that sword (microphone), questing after the grail (platinum records galore), and I would wish him a happy ending to the tale, too… I just don’t want it to ever end!!!”

Isabella#116, I had a different take from that Brooke White interview. It seemed to me that the “joke” was how totally and completely sweet and considerate David is, not that he’s a pushover. I was especially dying over the “fetch my favorite black blouse from the closet” scenario b/c, yeah, I could so see David being oh so accommodating to whoever he married. (And I must confess: if I had a husband like David, that would soooo be the kinds of tasks I’d be giving him! ha ha)
David does have an eagerness to please others, it seems, but I don’t think this is a “problem.” He’s certainly not going to compromise his values and his beliefs, but he will strive for “peace” (why he’s always making the sign), which comes from finding other people’s needs just as important as his.
Just my take on the whole thing.

I had to say this somewhere. I went on you tube just now to watch david’s music video one more time to see what it was like (I don’t enjoy it that much). Anyway there was this comment poster who put about 10 comments of “GAYGAYGAY” OR “he’s gay” But that’s not what alarmed me.
What alarmed me was that it is the same person who made all the comments, and guess what? The person’s name is dedicated to david archuleta. Something like “archuletasucks” So I clicked on this person’s profile. Let’s just say I’m extremely disturbed.
Seems like this person made an entire you tube account dedicated to watching David Archuleta’s videos, and spamming them with hate messages. I mean, I have artist i cannot stand, but I hardly waste my time watching their videos, talk less of naming myself based on my hate for them.
I don’t know why this bugs me so much. I guess it just makes me afraid for David. That someone out there seems to be completely obsessed with hating him. I know I’m overreacting, but seeing that really alarmed me, and I wanted to let my feelings out.
djasgirl…I’m not going to look for that persons hate videos. it does sound as if this person has gone to extremes to let people know how he/she feels. It may be more a case of extreme envy & jealousy over David’s success. Who knows what lurks in the minds of the sickos of the world. On the other side of the coin, I did see a video spewing anger & hate towards the people who hate David which I find just as disturbing as what you describe. “Hate” is such a strong emotion and doesn’t even belong in the same universe with David. I think the ones who say they “hate” David actually fear what he stands for. They refuse to believe that a 17 year old who has hundreds of females in the palms of his hands chooses instead to focus on what’s more important to him right now..I’m sorry to be so blunt but that’s the jist of it. David said he has no time to devote to a relationship right now. I believe that just like he has given his all to reach his career goals, he will also give as much to his first serious relationship. If we’ve learned anything about David, it’s how passionate he is about what & who he cares for. David probably knows that he’s “coveted” if you will, by both females & males, and it seems to me he takes it in stride. It doesn’t seem to bother David at all when males ask for a hug or gush over him..to him, a fan is a fan, and he appreciates all his fans. I really don’t think he cares how it may “look” to the ones who “hate” him. It doesn’t seem to be an issue for him., in my opinion. I hope I haven’t offended anyone because that is not my intention. Just my opinion, and everyone has one. Just ask David.
Sometimes I have been more “alarmed” at the completely OTT obsessive love some fans have shown David..hahaha!

Djasgirl, I can’t conclude anything else besides that person is obsessed and perhaps psychotic. It IS disturbing. My guess is that this person does perceive David as gay and is a bigot, and at the same time obsesses about him because he has his own issues about himself. What a mess.
It’s interesting, the quality of the Archie-hate out there. I’m not talking about the people who merely “don’t like” him, but the bona fide hate. None of it is measured -- it’s all irrational, over the top, and based on various forms of prejudice. Real psychological issues going on there.
P.S. I wanted to ask Archie for a hug, but he was sitting in one of those diner booths in Detroit! So all I could do was sit next to him! (see my pic) Oh well…
djasgirl -- I wonder if David actually scares some people. How can anyone be so humble, nice, and all that David is. I know this is the feeling that I got when I first read some of the negative comments. They are not ready to accept what David so freely gives. And yes, RONALDSF they may also have some real psychological issues as well.

silverfoxe: I must tell you that I love your sign-off to David. I find it very comforting. Tonight it reminds of the last verse of “Be Still my Soul” where David sings, “Sorrow forgot, love’s purest joys restored…All safe and blessèd, we shall meet at last.”
djasgirl, let your feelings out and hopefully by doing so here, you feel a little better. I understand your feeling alarmed for David. We all feel protective of him. Who knows how sick some of these “haters” really are, but one thing for sure is that a person like that is in deep need of love. It’s almost a cry for help. Attention is what they are craving and they go about getting it in a negative hateful manner because they know no other ways. Even an angry comment back is better than being ignored so they go for it. Hard as it is, I try to pray for the poor soul so that there is more love in their heart. Some just have too much time on their hands and do that sort of thing because they think it’s funny to rattle people. Worrying is not going to change anything, and like others have said, don’t bother reading those irrational comments. Just avoid them or ignore.
I just ignore negative comments that come David’s way. No one knows the personal pain someone else may be trying to smother. Hopefully at sometime someone or something may happen to make the world a better place for them. David has done that for so many of us. He has given us beautiful song again, character, kindness, and a work ethic that Brooke mentioned. (Hardest working teenager she knows).
Speaking of talent, I read an article in the New York Times this morning that sent me straight to Amazon. There was a young group of a cappella singers at Indiana University in 1996 that was very popular. They recently had a reunion and watched old videos and decided to put some on You Tube. One had 100,000 hits very quickly and now is heading toward 8 million. A record producer saw it and got the group together for a 5 album record deal. The first will be a Christmas album coming out the end of October. What i love about the group is they are musical-they can sing. I love a cappella as that was my introduction to music-just harmonious voices. Now I will be buying David’s Christmas song that was mentioned but I am buying Straight No Chaser’s album also. I am not sure how to post a link here so it will actually work. If you go to google and put in Straight No Chaser it is your very first choice.

On the subject of David’s “haters,” we must keep in mind that, just as there are many of us who are opening our hearts to all the positive energy and love he has to offer through his music and his overall presence, there are just as many others who find this very threatening. If David is a “light” of sorts, consider how many have dwelt in darkness for so long that any light that shines as brightly as David’s is sure to frighten them.

God, what a day--this is totally off topic, but I had a screening of a film scheduled for my students today. A student told me that the film only screened for about 15 minutes and then some a** (who had borrowed my video before) had taped a baseball game on it. On one level, I think it is totally hilarious, but unfortunately people can take things waaay too serious here and I’ll hear about it later.
It’s so hard to fathom anyone hating David Archuleta. All he has ever wanted to do is SING! There have been times since the beginning of his career that I’ve been concerned. Seems our fellow man can’t conduct themselves as humanely as Our David does. There are things that have happened in the past by out of control fans and haters that David should be leary of. It’s a definate shame we have to worry about that crap.

I agree that there are those whose comfort zone is “hate” and “darkness.” I don’t fathom that and I have been amazed as to David’s ability to deal with that and not comment on it or rail at it. Only time it comes up is if the interviewer brings up the negative. He is a wise innocent.

As far as the David haters…I’m not sure if they “hate” David, the SINGER..They hate David, the 17 year old, who chooses not to be a typical 17 year old..with raging hormones. We are all adults here so you know what I mean, and because he has never had a girlfriend and doesn’t feel the need to pretend or explain the reasons why other than he has other priorities, ignorant people assume, and you know about some people who ASSume, that David must not like the opposite sex, especially when they see all the females swooning and gushing over him. That is where the hate is coming from so lets call it what it is..prejudice towards gays. The “hater” like the one djasgirl described is just one of many. They are out there. We do have to ignor them, stay off of their sites, do not give them the benefit of acknowledging them in any way. David & his parents don’t and we shouldn’t either. Yes, David is WISE beyond his years for continuing to pursue his goals without caving in to ignorance & prejudice and by being true to himself. I couldn’t admire him more for that.

Kizzi, my husband who isn’t into ODD like I am but agrees David is talented really liked the group’s Lion Sleeps Tonight also. When my daughter graduated from high school there was a singing group in her class who sang that song so it brings back those memories. Of course it was part of our youth also. I think that is the power of music. It can renew and refresh us. It also brings us together as we have something in common even though we don’t know one another. Robert Browning said: “He who hears music, feels his solitude peopled at once.”
I did have a random thought with the Straight No Chaser story. If it hadn’t been for American Idol and David had posted via You Tube (as older singer after Star Search)how long would it have taken for him to be discovered? I wonder how many wannabe’s are looking for that chance on You Tube?

Ok, drum roll please… I FINALLY heard CRUSH on the radio today!!! What a moment that was! I’m glad I wasn’t driving. But I’m sad to say it didn’t happen in San Francisco or near it, we had to go up North to the wine country to finally, finally (!!!) hear it. One SF radio station I contacted last week said they still don’t have it on their playlist. For the life of me I don’t know what it takes for it to happen. If the Crush video was #3 on the VH1 countdown, WHAT more do the SF stations need for crying out loud???!!! Anyhow, I’m totally bummed I missed seeing the video even though I got up at 6 am Saturday to make sure and catch it. I think when they say 9 am ET, it is 9 am PT too. Has to be, because I watched for two hours (and I should have known it wasn’t a countdown, but I didn’t know, duh, silly me) and some videos started to repeat. And HG said they were showing it at 10:45 am ET I believe. I WAS watching at 7:45 am but nothing. Arghhh. But I am soooo happy I finally experienced hearing David’s sweet voice through the radio. What a blissful moment that was!
Vermeer, sorry you had to miss it, but it was an exciting feeling to finally see David on my TV (probably just like it was for you to hear it on the radio).
Update, everyone: Diana over on All Things David reminded me I hadn’t updated you all on my health. Would you believe the clinic where I did my breast MRI didn’t even follow up to tell me my results for weeks until I contacted them? How inconsiderate! Anyway, the “no news is good news” is certainly true, and I’m happy to report that I’m fine.
BTW, I learned from one of these new sites linked on ATD that David has plans to record both Angels and Crush in Spanish! I nearly fainted when I read that! I got this info from a fan site called Team Archie International (the link passed on to me from one of the site visitors). Please help spread the word on All Things David, as various people will start visiting the site and suggesting links to other sites I had no idea existed.

I fell in love with his walk that time when the camera showed him walk out on stage to join One Republic in the finale performance of “Apologize.” It was so smooth, so lithe, I almost died. Sigh.

HG #156, you got it spot on, that was the time I suddenly realized how “grown-up and sexy” David was. You know, since than I have been viewing this performance on YouTube regularly, really crazy of me!
I first really noticed David’s walk when he came out to sing the duet with Cook. I was hypnotized, mezmorized during that whole performance. His posture and presence just commanded the stage. I kept going back to his entrance again and again. Then his body language while he was singing the song-whoeee! David grew up for me that night. One Republic performance just sealed it. He is going to be an awesome man. I love his joy, dedication and hard work. Some girl is going to be a very lucky woman one of these days when his focus turns on her.

ronaldsf, I didn’t want to assume the “sf” in your name referred to the city but I had thought that it would be funny if I did run into you in the streets of SF since I (kind of) know what you look like from your avatar, though it’s a tiny picture! Wouldn’t that be a hoot?!
Silver -- No I wasn’t part of the thank you project of jenny of FOD. A sort of funny story happened when I was sending my message to David.
1st, I was supposed to send a letter to David via FunnyGirl but I missed her deadline cos I was busy at work.
Next was jenny’s offer. BUT when she mentioned that it will eventually be uploaded in youtube… well, what can I say, am iffy about being on youtube… so I passed up the chance
Then Pam05 invited me to send my letter to her so she could include it in a TY book for David. SO of course I jumped on her offer! Since there were tons of threads for me to review, I actually didn’t know what I was agreeing to with Pam.
When she got my letter, she thought I was pulling a stunt cos I was pretending to be a girl! Yeah, am jackryan4DA so of course people would expect me to be a guy, right? Except that on the letter, I even included my pix cos FOD enjoined us to send pix & mentioned am a mother .. etc…. But she said my letter sounded that am a guy!
So what was the big deal? The TY Book was a project for the MALE Archies! After a couple of exchanges & clarifications, Pam, bless her soul agreed to just hand over my letter to David, separate of course from the TY Book! Next thing I knew she was crying over my letter. Haha
I really owe Pam a lot for accommodating me despite the many things she had to prepare for that day at Ford. Well, someday I hope David gets to read my letter.
Terrible laughter Silver? R u kidding me? That’s the other highlight of that video! After David’s “Hi D!” what tickles me is YOUR laughter. It has that youthful, effervescent ring to it which I love! My mobile’s phone ringing tone in fact is a baby’s laughter. So no you remained intact in my vid’s version and am glad I got a glimpse of you in the process!

Wow, silverfoxe! You’re getting really good at the video stuff. I especially love how Roberta Flack’s First Time Ever I Saw Your Face works with the pictures -- talk about being spot on!
Interestingly, Roberta Flack’s subtle voice makes me wonder how David would have sounded on that song, instead of Cook’s rendition, which was much too screamy for my tastes. Imagine if David sang that song instead of “Longer” -- chills, chills!

davidfanliz #70 Awsome post ,thank you.The fact that David just “is” makes him such a blessing to watch, not just when he performs, but in everyway that he interacts with fans, media, family. He seems so egoless and I admire that so much. He really is helping me to be more compassionate and loving… the fact that his music takes us on this path is just incredible .

I see it the same way.
I think because is so “grounded in his faith” is the reason he seems to be so content within himself -- he knows how he wants to be in this world, resolute to the choices he makes within his life. I believe he knows an inner peace. This manifests into the David his fans have come to witness, happy!
Because he is not “limited in his faith” is the reason he accepts people for who and what they are, no matter their color, nationality… His universal appeal comes as a result of his openess to see the good in each and everyone he meets. People respond to this openess and are comforted by it.
