Nice! If this does turn out to be true, talk about showing extreme confidence in someone so young and so new to the music scene.

I hope you all realize this is unprecedented. Artists as young and as new as David are almost always started off as opening acts for a more established artist.

This gives me even more hope that the album is going to be phenomenal, give and take a few album fillers.

I agree that it shows extreme confidence. David has mentioned several times that he would like to learn stagecraft from other artists. I like the idea of him easing into his performance skills in an unrushed, organic way. I have a bit of trepidation about him jumping so quickly into a solo tour.

Does the solo tour mean that he might be an opening act, or the headlining artist? I wonder if the early 2009 tour will be in smaller venues, like clubs and arts centers.

So he goes out of his way, DURING THE TOUR, and works his little booty off to write EIGHT SONGS in TWO WEEKS to make sure the album (1) reflects who he is and (2) every song meets his standards of quality?

And remember, he didn’t have to do this – he could have stuck to twelve songs and that would’ve been it! He LOVES his fans!! wub.gif

Okay, just a little David-ish moment I felt compelled to share with ya’ll. So the past few days I’ve been kinda bummed out, (numerous reasons), not the least of which is the onset of the Wisconsin winter, luckily the ODD helps with the SAD (seasonal affective disorder) I think.. Anyway, to compound my crabbiness even further, I turned another year older yesterday. (Yes my B-day), and it freakin’ sucked. Being able to download ‘Angels’ definitely did help to brighten the day, but I didn’t really have a good ‘Birthday Moment’ (technically 1 day post B-day moment) until about 15 minutes ago. I was home (here), for lunch, perusing the DA Chronicles as I do most days. I turned on the ‘Music On Demand’ cable TV channel (Hit List channel), and also started listening to various recent David radio interviews. All of a sudden I heard “woah oo woah oo woah oo woah oh oh.” It was a really cool remix (not annoying at all) of ‘Crush’ playing with pics and lil’ pop-up ‘Archu-facts.’ Good Times Right? I thought “Oh, this and being able to download ‘Angels’ are probably the best birthday presents I got, and just then the part of the interview when David sings ‘Happy Birthday’ came on, and I just about died. (Dorky I know) but man I am in such a better mood. A serious 180 from earlier today or the past week. Sorry for the long-a#$ post, but it’s been awhile.

slvrfox..yes, “the UTAH concert that wasn’t” actually didn’t happen cuz David was already “contracted” to do the AI Tour. The permission to do the Utah concert was not granted so it had to be nixed. I’m sure David was sad about it too. I am betting David’s FIRST solo concert takes place in Utahhhhh! Nevah, evah wanted to live in Utah, nevah even thought about Utah, sorry, but I nevah even cared about Utah..But now,.I’m lovin’ Utah, Utah is be-u-tee-ful, all those mountains, that big lake, David’s house, DAVID…so guess where I wanna live now..at least til after David’s first concert there!

Tell me more about the Julliad tidbit: Did their composition program want him as an early admit student? Or did they offer him a spot on one of the summer high school programs??

I went to a college with a famous music conservatory, and studied there for a time, so it doesn’t surprise me about David!

Silverfoxe, you are correct and I am aware that it was nixed because he was undercontract, however, I was using that as a backdrop for your outstanding and creative mind. As we all know David is so appreciative of everyones outstanding support of his talent so it wouldn’t surprise me in the least if he did do a solo performance in Utah where it all started.

Your so cute… Mine is my age as well. I orginate from Miami, Florida and during Hurricane Andrew in 1992 I went completely silver… Hence the name Slvrfox. I also use that as my personal e-mail address. Everyone at work called me Slvrfox and they called my co-worker Black Beauty. It stuck…Nancy and I still call each other that. I live in Atlanta, Georgia now. I must confess I tried to do the avatar thing but failed miserably. Nothing would make me happier than to have my Davids picture above my name. David is our Miracle..he so unassuming! Just quickly logging in to say that tickets are available for the taping of the Bonnie Hunt Show in Culver City, CA (near LA). The taping is on Monday, 11/17 (air date is 11/18). The tickets aren’t even available yet on their website, but I called and now have a reservation! I was told that David will perform, so I am excited. I said I’d spread the word.

Please, please dont’t be sad about David’s Angels. As I was listening to one of his radio interviews he went into some details about his vocal paralysis. It then struck me just HOW CLOSE we came to David not having the ability to sing at all. I think we can sometimes start building up certain expectations about how David should sing the songs in his repetoire. I too, nitpicked the sample as if he could simply whip out these songs to please us all. He makes it look and sound so easy that we forget what we almost never had. The world would certainly be a sadder place right about now without David and his magnificent miracle. I feel in my heart THIS is why he sings Angels so much because he probably “contemplated his fate” when the paralysis struck. Just remember actress – Julie Andrews. She sang Sound of Music and as I child I was enchanted by her voice. She had vocal surgery and never recovered her ability to sing again. In interviews since, she has said that despite all her fame and success – the ONE thing she mourns the most is her ability to sing. I am a classical singer myself and I wouldn’t know which side was up if ever I lost that ability. Sorry for the long post – its not intended to cast criticism but to gently remind us in David we are witnessing a walking, SINGING miracle.

Just remembering….when a tour was announced back in the good old days we began to plan, …-to plan a plan!!! First you had to find out which ticket company was selling the tickets, then you had to discover which of the locations within a 2 hour drive would actually have tickets—it was a secret!!! Then you had to round up all the people you knew- mom, dad, grandma, sister, friends, coaches- anyone who loved you (and didn’t want tickets themselves) to camp outside at the various ticket sites that were reported to have tickets,….you had to sell your car to scrape up enough cash to supply all of the people at all of your locations……then the camping, the provisions….the fun, the music, the fun, the sharing, the excitement, the fun, the rain….sometimes the crushing disappointment that you had camped out at the wrong location,…but then….grandma came through!…the joy!! Gets the blood flowing……

So, I ask you, what’s the plan? I KNOW you all have a plan… ☺

The other day I finally heard “Crush” on my main radio station in Orlando (Magic 107.7), and couldn’t believe it, ’cause I had finally given up on them and was listening to a station that Kizzi had suggested. Well, today I found out WHY I had heard Crush on Magic 107.7 ~ because he’s finally on their rotation list ~ at #17!!! I’m sooooooo excited! Now I don’t have to listen exclusively to the other station ~ which usually plays the typical strange music! Very exciting! Now if I could just get to go to the Atlanta Jingle Jam I’d be a very happy woman!

I was working near the Providence radio station, 92Pro-Fm. I listened to the whole thing , then stopped by on my way home to see David. Jenny will post the story tomorrow on FOD. I didn’t have a camera but I did get an autograph. He wore a black lightweight jacket and I believe the same red shirt as in the Boston photos. All I can remember is his “beautiful face”. I am a golden Archie so forgive me for so little detail. I will sleep on it and write more soon. This was my second encounter but my first to actually speak to him. Lots of fans there( about 25-30). Nice mix of ages and genders. Something I remember was a handler telling folks to please get you business done and move away so others can have a chance. Then he says “He will be coming back!” I wondered if that meant he will be back when the Solo tour comes around. I can only hope! There are a few nice smaller venues near Providence, such as Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun.

I think the promoters know David can fill “small” pricey venues and they may want the money directly….we can only hope…..

Guys, guys.. am not THAT sad! Drinking in too much of the ArchuSpirits, archies tend to acquire David’s brand of sweetness! Thank you ram, HG, SG, joymus, happy for your concern, greetings, for the brownies — any oatmeal-raisin cookies?

Here’s the thing about my reaction re the album version of Angels: It’s like I know that I have an A+++ student, yet he hands in an A paper. Or you know you have creme brulee but instead you got jello. Am not asking for a Tulsa cos nothing can beat a live performance, esp that one! To-date that is. But given that David’s jello is still 100x better than most creme brulee in the airwaves nowadays, I am already thankful for that. But… it is still not the “Angels” of my heart.

Initially I was mad because — dang technicians! Mad because the much anticipated bridge was arranged to sound ………… ordinary (ducking for tomatoes tossed my way). know I am a minority here in this regard so I am in no danger in alienating anyone’s opinion or dampening anyone’s enthusiasm. Just look at the party you guys have been rocking around here

David is anything but ordinary. The word or even the sense of it should not even be associated within spitting distance of mi amore! It wasn’t even his fault — it was the mixing. Why drown the most elegant instrument, the most important element in that piece? Because they got an over-enthusiastic musicians? NOTE to JIVE: if it aint broke, dont’ fix it!

Then the reasons I was sad
(1) “Angels” is the most identified song with David. And in his debut album, it is the most identifiable cover. Hence, the artist & producer must ensure that it would be the best cover the artist could deliver. For me, it is not. It’s a diluted “Angels”. And this is the version that would fly off the shelves — the version that would reach the wider market. Such an opportunity missed!

(2) I think we all agree that it was the mixing so it’s not his fault. But I don’t accept that it was beyond his control. Knowing David? The perfectionist? The crusher? If some of you say that it’s ok, cos we’re not the primary target market (PTM), heck there are over 10 other songs already catering to the wider market. He can’t put his foot down on a song that means a lot to him and to his loyal fans? See where am coming from?

I admit I am unbending but only with talent at the level & the likes of David. For others, I practice my eQ to the max. You get that by raising kids on your own for over 2 decades – esp teenagers. riiiight guys? Haha. He said it’s all about the music. So as an artiste, he makes it known what line can’t be crossed. We KNOW what he can deliver. Can you think of anyone who can send you chills with a happy bday song!!!! That’s what am talking about!

David must be UNLEASHED!. So our calculated guess, the accuracy of which is matched only by our patient & unwavering anticipation for the wonders of David’s evolution, will not come to naught.

My bottomline: Angels of the maiden album is GOOD. Creme brulee or jello, of course I love it. But good thing we will always have Ford & Tulsa.

Now what’s this I hear about an archie convention in Utah, courtesy of mamasaun? Hmmnn, possibly one more good reason to consider my HS sweetheart… hmmmnn… I could be playing host to you guys someday too!

And what a coincidence!—got off the phone with a musician friend earlier, who is dealing with nodes on her vocal cords, she just told me about Julie Andrews’ experience (unsuccessful surgery), and then your msg mentioning the same thing. mb, great 108 seconds. Some different questions and I love watching him think before he answers. I think Post should have him do an ad for Honey Bunches of Oats. Their cereal is very good and he would make it an American favorite.

He takes “Happy Birthday” to a new level doesn’t he? He probably has sang that quite a few times at various parties over the years. I was just looking at the picture on FOD this morning and this thought popped into my head – Ever wonder why the “bling” bracelet that Paula gave David caused an instant rash, but the necklace he wears all the time now (sorry can’t remember the name of it) seems to cause him no problems?

Good Morning Everyone,
I just came from visiting Snarky Archies. Wanted to read their blog on last nights BooBash. David and Jordin were hosting.
This is where I’m sure David showed his moral strength and impeccable character: It looks like the party was extremely boring except for the hussy women with short short skirts (showing to much skin) floating condoms and naughty innuendos from some DJ.. Oh my heck!!!!!
One response to this article that had me in hysterics was “Aw,David will take care of those woman in their short skirts with his trusty SHARPIE”. The other one was “Good grief Lupe is wringing her hands, Jeff get our son out of there”,,,,,, David did not dress up for this Bash, he said he didn’t have time to look for a costume with his busy schedule he just wore his red t-shirt and jacket. He’s such a dear.

Great news! David now has TWO songs in the main TOP 20 iTunes downloads: Crush is 15 and Angels is 20. Wouldn’t it be great if by 11/11 he had both in the top 10?

I’m still perplexed by the release of Angels this week. Doesn’t it seem a little strange?
1. Still seems a little early with “Crush” still gaining some momentum.
2. I thought they would have gone with one of the other teen-pop songs on the album instead, just to capitalize on the success of Crush. While I love Angels, it seems more of a multi-genre crossover song, doesn’t it? Part AC, part Pop, and maybe (via the electric guitar riffs) part Rock. If they get a new video produced for Angels, I could see that being far more adult-oriented than the Crush video.

Hmmmm. Then I remember that the ascent of a hit song is a long one – Crush has been around almost three months now, and it’s still just now making it onto a few playlists. That would put Angels at full saturation mode in mid- to late January.

Another thought: Because of all his TV appearances coming up, maybe they wanted to release one that is easier for him to perform in public. Crush and ALTNOY are challenging because of the layering – they need the full band and backing tracks.

What do you guys think?

Rascal, The more I listen to the new Angels, the more I like it, but I get what you were sayin about the over production.

Awestruck # 128. That necklace is called the Shield and part of what it says is “Be brave and courageous”. Isn’t that just like David? I want one to remind me to be that way too.

dma #126. You know they do that (ask him to sing) because they are CAPTIVATED with his VOICE. They just can’t help themselves. And then when he does sing for them they are gushing with praise for him and how delightful he is.

Debra! Good to hear from you! Congratulations on passing your diving test! Awesome! Jamaica is a beautiful island, so enjoy. Don’t stray from your guided group tour, though, since there is a lot of violence. Mainly, try to avoid downtown Kingston (unless you have to visit the Bob Marley Museum, which is pretty cool).

But, the countryside is simply gorgeous, and the beaches in Ocho Rios are fabulous.

I had the same thought you did Caseydog. When he performs at events he can play piano and sing “Angels” easier than Crush which is great but all those layerings make it hard to reproduce although David will do it. He will work something out with his band. I will be excited to see the members of this band. I remember some past artists who had drummers or guitarists stay with them their whole careers. This band will become a “traveling family” for David. How exciting.

With David having some family in Arizona I hope they do tour down to the Southwest. I read in one of the sites something about Madison Square Garden in New York. How much is conjecture and how much is true only time will tell.

rascal 129 IF “Jive producers realized fairly early on that they weren’t dealing with an amateur or “just a singer,” but a true musician.” , THEN WHY was there a rush to get an album out? He did not win AI therefore why the need to act before the next season’s names become familiar (or whatever their reasoning is).

Even if they gave David et al another couple of months to finalize his album it could have made a huge difference.

awestruck #144, I too wonder what the hurry is to get out the CD. I assume that this is the normal routine with AI performers, but it was crazy asking David to be on tour AND to record an album. I know I’m going to be thrilled about the new CD, but I’m also taking the long view, knowing that this will be one of many.

I could be wrong, so take this with a grain of salt, but I was in Worcester the other day at WXLO and both David AND Jeff seemed unaware that Angels was being downloaded as soon as the album was pre-ordered. David did NOT know (because we spoke about it), and the friend I was with said Jeff didn’t either. So, I’m not sure about this being some type of plan that was discussed ahead of time..

awestruck – #144 – Because they want to make hay while the sun shines. American Idol is designed to manufacture huge stars that burn hot but may flare out quick. The longer they wait to exploit the interest and attention the show has created the more risk there is that the public has moved on to something else.

Geez, Rascal, do you think that’s why they were literally waiting in the wings with a contract in hand the minute he walked off stage after announcing Cook the winner?

I’m sure they were just rubbing their greedy little hands together on this opportunity!

Regardless, I think this first effort, rushed though it may have been, is going to be a very respectible piece of work.

I think he may actually garner some kudos from the music industry for delivering quality work in such a short time frame. Just my feeling.

Joner 164, well, I have to admit, one reason I am happy that he came to us through Idol is that they do rush out the CD… I just don’t think my heart can handle waiting much longer. And, David does sound excited about the end result, so, despite the fact that there may have been more than a few compromises on his end, he sure seems ok with the “idol formula” that necessitated the rush job.

And, I think your feeling is right on… he’s already getting “grudging” recognition from folks who “hated” on him during the show… besides the fact that we fans are a discerning bunch, in spite of our ODD, as evidenced by the Angels discussion. The music industry is already sitting up and taking notice of David (how can they not?!) and I believe his album will go a long way towards solidifying well deserved respect.

No one is more critical of his music than David himself.

I think the real “tell” here is his enthusiam about the CD release. He has never hesitated to apologize for what he considers sub-par performances and I’m not picking up on anything like that from him.

If he had more time, I’m sure he would have perfected certain things and, although he frequently refers to the CD being “rushed”, I still get the feeling that overall he is satisfied with the end product.

On the topic of the solo tour – I am also from NYC and would love to get a group together if in fact he does have a concert at the Wamu Theater.

Also, if anyone is interested – David is going to be on Regis and Kelly on Nov. 12th, the day after the “big day.” I went onto the Regis & Kelly site to see about tickets but apparently I would have had to have requested them about 6 weeks ago and even then, you can’t request a specific day. However, they do give out day of stand-by tickets. They said you have to get the studio no later than 7:00AM. I would definitely be willing to do this and would love someone to go with. I just can’t have my daughter take a day off of school again, like I did last May for the Today Show!

#182 silverfoxe, the way it would leak would not be in the form of files that you can download. Rather, it would be a special site where you can hear the audio streaming from your internet browser.

Inevitably, some tech savvy people will rip mp3s out of the audio stream for themselves, and some will make them generally available. But the sound will be subpar. This is deliberate on the part of the label to give people incentive to buy the real album.

I know we are all having fun,,and no one loves fun more than I, but I’m having some very serious moments and I can’t shake them…so bare with me.

i guess the questions I asked on #198 seem kinda weird and senseless, but the reason I wanted to know and went to itunes and looked up the AI winners & runners-up to checked out their debut albums. And unless I missed something I was not really surprised to learn that David’s debut album will be one of a kind as far as # of tracks on an AI contestant debut album. Daughtry had 16 on his. The reason I was curious is because I just find it facinating that JIVE has so much confidence in David.
So much so that they included a song written by David when he was 14!! UN-BUH-LEE-VA-BUL!! I’ve been

#210 jackryan, one correction – the prevailing theory is that the Walmart bonus track will also be on the physical CDs available in Walmart stores. Apparently the “not available in stores” description on the Walmart website is because it’s only not currently in the stores.

Folks (including myself) on IDF were insisting that the in-store CD would have the Walmart bonus track as well, because this is a way to attract more shoppers into their stores. Teenagers will be asking their parents to drive them to Walmart to get the special bonus track, and while they’re at Walmart they buy other stuff… makes sense, right?

Happy, what a spirit you have after going through so much. David’s music does help bring the joy back, doesn’t it? For everything.

DavidfanLiz – 201 – Yes, I know this MSG concert is not yet confirmed but I can’t help but get excited about the possibility of it. If he is definitely doing a tour starting next year, then I’m sure he is playing somewhere in or near NYC. If it’s not Wamu then it will be somewhere else around here. No matter where he plays in the NYC area, I’m going and I would love nothing more then to go with other ODD’ers. Honestly, there is no one I know that really “gets” David the way everyone here does, as well as some of the other fan groups.

On the subject of the hand snapping, my 17 yr. old son does it too. I always thought he did it to get on my nerves – with David it’s cute, with my son, “not so cute.” LOL

Regarding whether the CD with the bonus track will be the same in the store (Walmart) as online – I emailed them today to ask this question as I wondered about this too. I have not heard back from them yet, but I will stop at the store tomorrow while I am in the area and try to find out for sure. I will let you know if I am able to get a definite answer.

The one thing that struck me the most from your story and the cord that ties us all together is the fact that David’s music in some unexplained way helps us feel better about our personal situations. He uses his crafted ability and heartfelt emotion as a double whammy that hits us all in the heart. That hit then seems to have a therapeutic effect which in turn releases every emotion possible – hopes, dreams, disappointments and grief. The end result after listening to David? – we feel….. HAPPY

happy-thanks for your story. It’s always awesome to hear the affect that David has on people and the true healing and help that his music really does provide to I think all of us to some extent. With regatrds to’The Boss’; ‘Secret Garden’ has kind of a significant meaning to me, (nothing to do with the movie Jerry Macguire). I saw him in concert when I was 10 years old and I still remember that as one of the best concerts 4 sure.

happy O wow! I can empathize with you completely as I am a widow myself for 10-19 years now (why a range? completely convoluted story no one needs to hear -haha). I also have 2 kids. I will soon turn 47 (a week away from DA’s bday). With God’s Grace, I consider raising 2 kids on my own while building a career, one of my life’s achievements Have you written David about how he has inspired you? I suggest you do!

The word that comes to mind to describe this version of “Angels” is FRESH. It is a relief not to hear the same version from the AI competition or the tour. I love it, especially for it’s uniqueness. It also had to be different enough from the UK version to justify it’s place on another album. It hits just the right note, IMHO.

With 10 days to for the album, let’s do a speculation game and come up with a wish list of scenarios. And the thing we will speculate on is this:

A JIVE CAMERA CREW IS FOLLOWING DAVID WHEREVER HE GOES BECAUSE….

I noticed on itunes that part of the 17 songs are Crush the song, and Crush the video and a digital booklet plus along with Angels so while it seemed we were getting 17 new songs that is not actually the case. I ordered it anyway, want to make sure I get them all. Will prob get the Walmart edition as well if it had an extra song not included elsewhere. Just to be sure, haha.
