One of the great things about immense talent is that it inspires others with great talent: A virtuous cycle that cross-pollinates from music to photography to journalism to fashion to songwriting and back again. I confess I didn’t think we would see David in the Christopher Makos – Interview – Late 20th Century – Classic Rock Icononography photo mode quite so soon. But, indeed, what else for a seventeen-year-old pop god?
This image is part of a series created for Elle Magazine of some of the Season Seven Idols, in which, I believe, one can arguably conclude through objective assessment that Mr. Archuleta accomplishes the most arresting image — by a landslide.

Hawt is right! Hawt Hawtty McHawt Hawt! H to the AWT. You get the picture. I just had to make a quick comment (other than just agreeing with Ronald). I just watched the bus.com interview, (yes Jesse come lately), but that was so flippin’ funny that David, being the consummate gentleman, referred to picture “a” and “b” as ‘numbers a and b’ just like the grammatically challenged (but yes very nice) host. What a guy! So how about those Elle pictures? Dang!
What I find so interesting in that photoshoot it is only David that had a shoot that focuses on his face, rather than the clothes — and this is a fashion shoot!
Sure DC had that upper shot frame, but the treatment is different – it’s like the accessories & the attitude (with the lifted eyebrow) are the focus.
With our David, it’s all the loveliness, the enthralling aura of him.
The holes on his shirt? That’s cos Kristy (or the photographer?) wasn’t able to resist him!
TIP ON FINDING STUFF:
What’s my secret in always finding goodies? I don’t find them, they come to me! I have fixed the setting of all my search browsers (google, yahoo, etc..) to alert me on anything about David or what interests me. So they email me

Happy-Yeah I think I pretty much passed out from exhaustion. All the pre-anxiety build up. Actually I’m kinda not sure what the heck I did. I think I really did fall asleep. HA. Glad you were being good, because I’m pretty sure my comments would have only gotten me in trouble, and probably banned from ever meeting DA again. Sometimes I can’t help myself! I did watch the DVR of last night about 10 times today. It was pretty awesome and it totally looked like Jay was definitely diggin’ it.

I can’t stop smiling cos of Nat’s on-site report on his Leno appearance posted at FOD. Fave portion of the report:
So the only thing I have to add is just reaction from some of the people sitting around me. A nice lady sitting nearby asked “How old is he again?” She wasn’t directing the question to me, but I was so excited, I just had to butt in and tell them. Lol And she said, in that dazed kinda way “Wow. He’s reallllly good.”, to which her friend next to her said “He’s going to be around for a long time.” I couldn’t have said it better myself.
A group of Archies were congregated in front of the building afterwards. David didn’t get a chance to come out and say hi to us, but it didn’t wipe the smiles off of our faces as to how proud we were of him.

hey JesseQ, just noticed your comment about KristyLee, lol, my husband certainly did enjoy watching her on stage this summer in Hartford. She certainly did have the Shania Twain- like moves up there, waving that gorgeous mane of hair around and WORKIN’ it. And all I could think of watching her was “how many more minutes till DA comes on?”

But looking at it now w/o Kristy..it’s still beautiful, but seeing a gorgeous girl w/her arm draped around him, and him just looking like “ho-hum..so bored..can have any female on the planet” just made it so NOT “LIKE” DAVID..which makes the photo kinda like “taboo” sort of. Ya Chickee, she really did have the ‘stance’. I think by the time the tour got around to Green Bay she kinda knew it was really the David David show, but I must say there were quite a few country fans yelling ‘you’re hot!’ BeeBee, are there more ‘unseen’ pics out there or what?
Oh gosh, I love that people even noticed that Kristy’s ring is on the opposite finger in the picture with David, provoking some kinda funny speculation. (She’d leave her fiancee’ for David) and stuff like that. Funny stuff!

It’s really very funny what the photographers decided to dress their subjects in. I pasted three descriptions below. The first 2 are representative of all the other idol photos, then there’s David’s (aka the voice, aka the face)
Kristy Lee Cook:

Carly Smithson:

chickee..That’s one thing I find so fascinating about David is that he doesn’t realize that when he decides he’s ready, he CAN have anyone he wants and when he poses for the wonderful, beautiful photos that make him look macho, sensual, sexy, and dangerous, that’s all it is …a pose. He doesn’t think of himself in that way at all. Like he says..it weird to say he’s a sex-symbol…but there is nothing he can do about it..”when you got it, you got it!” (Quote Simon)..And David GOTS it in spades!

Quite a feat by Elle to project this image of David. I don’t see him in the James Dean mode, though. He looks more like Sal Mineo, but edgier, cockier, more self assertive. Given his gentle nature, Elle has managed to add a new dimension to the wunderkinder’s image.
But I don’t think Elle was trying to sell Ralph Lauren Polo t-shirts, 3 for $30, with this photo. There’s something else going on here.

frankly, I think the photographer and stylist had a very specific idea of the image they wanted to convey for David….as an angsty, youthful James Dean…much more so than for the other idols. Makes me think they may be fans themselves. That wouldn’t be surprising, many people in the arts seem to like David – from Rascal to Vulture, I’m sure it extends to people in the fashion world as well
Sometimes I think, wouldn’t it be cool if David moved to New York? Imagine the inspiration he would find in such a vibrant, artistic community!
And, speaking of the arts, let’s not forget dance. Remember the breathtaking pas de deux that was choreographed for Will and Katee on ‘So You Think You Can Dance”? David’s rendition of Imagine was the inspiration for that particular masterpiece.

Boys, lost or otherwise, are Hay’s strength. The models in Bazaar and the girls in Gucci don’t inspire him the way some rocker kid with messed-up teeth and an outdated shag does. He understands masculine aggression and vulnerability, brutality and grace–or at least he’s trying to.

What inspires me? Everything, anything, almost. I love pop culture, so that is the number one thing that inspires me. Television always inspires me, music, movies, art, books, film, fashion…the internet, multimedia. And it’s also a meld of all those things, television on the internet and fashion and movies, everything becomes one thing for me in a way. Everything that is current.

The photographer from Elle has created wonderful works of art in some of those photographs, but no more so than the photo of Kristy Lee & David. The photograph invites the viewer in to study and contemplate what it is that they are looking at. I’m with you JR, I thought up a complete story while staring at this image. Mine consisted of two lost souls in a world that is cold and dreary, and Kristy Lee has gathered David up into herself to protect him. I think David, Kristy Lee and the photographer all did a wonderful job and should be commended.
Just to comment on some of the other photos, when I first saw Carly’s, I wanted to compare her to Stevie Nicks, but Carly is too harsh, she comes across as an evil sorceress. Ramiele looks gorgeous. I think she should consider a career as a model. Jason’s were fun, but I didn’t like Cook’s, it looked too generic. And Brooke’s gave me a feel of someone playing dress-up. I didn’t believe this image was Brooke at all.
I’ve got to sign off for a little bit, but I’ll be right back. The last 1/2 hour of VH1′s countdown is just starting, and I’ve got to see if Crush is still #1.

dma #99 – I also received an email that my CDs were shipped. In a previous tread I posted that the manager of the electronics dept. of our local Walmart told me that David’s CD would not be available in ANY Walmart stores, only online!!! So blank looks and misinformation – I hope this manager is working on Nov. 11th – I can’t wait to see the look on his face when these CDs are flying off the shelves!
I just read this at FOD:

FOD’er Teresa had David’s CD in her hand…the Wal-Mart version with the bonus track! This is what she had to say:
I actually had David’s CD in my hand today—-of course I screamed!!! It was actually late arriving in our store (we were supposed to get it yesterday) but anyway, the store copies DO–Yes, I said DO have the bonus track–I actually forgot the name of the song (It was one David wrote).
Our particular Wal-mart is only getting 70 copies for the original distribution on Tuesday 11/11. I don’t think the stores are getting a huge number for the release date, so I would advise everyone to get there early if they want to get their 11/11 copy. I do think the stores are going to sell-out fast until they get their second shipment. Sometimes there definitely can be a delay before that second shipment comes in. I don’t know how you want to get the word out, but this is solid information. His CD looked crazy awesome!!!! I know it is going to SOUND crazy awesome too!!!!

As I’ve just discovered, the Amazon deluxe version was not available when I pre-ordered mine – now it’s available as a pre-order.
So, if you’ve pre-ordered from iTunes, you get the extra bonus songs (Let Me Go, Falling, Waiting On Yesterday and ONLY if you’ve pre-ordered will you get Somebody Out There – all either written by David or co-written by him). If you ordered Amazon prior to today, only the “regular” album ($9.99) was available. If you don’t have iTunes and want these extra tracks, as I understand it, you’ll want to order the “Deluxe Version” from Amazon. (cost $12.99 +shipping).
ETA-Somebody Out There disappears once 11/11 hits. So it seems that iTunes has cornered the market.

Gosh, so late to this party, as usual… I did see these photos on my blackberry last night and just about died… but was on my way to see ACT’s presentation of “Quality of Life.” I’d recommend it if anyone lives in the Bay Area… it was great! Poignant… incredibly sad stories, but infused with humor… thought it was really well done.
Anyway, back to the photos and the new snippets… I definitely had a cougar moment when I saw the Elle shot… ugh… to be a teen again… that boy is sssmoookiin… he is really somethin’ isn’t he?! I was thinking about how he looked when he was singing Crush on Leno… so hot and passionate when he was singing, and then, as soon as he was done, that smile of relief and the “phew” … back to being an adorable 17 year old kid. I’m betting there was a lot of that during this shoot too… the alternating between being smoldering and then just cute David… wish I could have been a fly on the wall for that!
Love the snippets… Falling sounds lovely and sad… can’t wait to hear the full songs… only 2 days left to wait!

I think the info above of which songs David co-wrote is partly wrong. Here is what karidol posted over at IDF. This squares with what I’ve been hearing:
David wrote Falling both lyrics and music… He also co- wrote the bonus track on itunes when you preorder the album (the song its not listed here , because its exclusive to itunes) David also co- wrote “Works for me” with Daniel Bedengfield but that song its exclusive to Walmart only
At the end David co- wrote 4 songs and he wrote 1 completely… So was involved in the writing of 5 songs of the 17 songs being released on his album, deluxe versions and bonus tracks!!! WOW!!!

Ok, I just found this at fanscene… guess it makes sense to download from both itunes and amazon…

The Amazon Deluxe CD is available as an Mp3 download and includes all the songs that Itunes has except for the bonus song when you pre-order on Itunes, Somebody Out There. So, pre-order David’s CD on Itunes NOW…don’t lose out on the bonus song…then go and order David’s Deluxe CD as a digital download through Amazon. Why? The dexluxe CD from Amazon is downloaded as an Mp3 and can be put on a disk for your car, whereas, the download from Itunes as M4P, which is specific to Applie-Itunes…makes it very hard to put on a disk, unless you know how to go around the system. But, even if you know how to put the M4P songs on a CD, you lose all the information to each song. So, the best way to handle this is to download both Itunes (pre-order now) and also download the Deluxe version from Amazon, which comes as an Mp3. Go, Now, Buy…buy…buy…buy. Don’t lost out on Somebody Out There.

Yes, my understanding (until Rascal confused me further…tee hee) is that to make sure we get all of the songs, we have to pre-order at itunes and buy the physical cd from Wal Mart. What the poster at Fanscene is saying is that downloading the deluxe version mp3s from Amazon will make it easier to burn a copy to a CD… but I guess, now that I’m thinking about it, that may be moot for many of us who are buying physical copies anyway.

It cracks me up that there’s so much confusion out there…it’s just an indication how anxious we all are to make sure we don’t miss a single David song!
But, it is kind of annoying that there isn’t a single version that covers all of them. WalMart wields its mighty sword again!
And now they’re saying at IDF that you can get a free poster if you buy the album at K-Mart!! LOL
Am I wrong for missing the days when I could just walk into a store and buy a vinyl record (with a larger-than-life picture already on the cover) and that was the end of it all?
Oh wait – but the digital age has made everything so much more CONVENIENT. What was I thinking?!
oh yeah, RonaldSF, you’re right about the bonus songs… I guess there is indeed a reason why we need to download from Amazon…
Well, the confusion for me is to figure out how I can get the best of David without having to go through Walmart because I am so not trying to buy my CD through them.
If they only have one bonus track, I will see what I can do to get it elsewhere – there are ways in our digital era. Which isn’t to say I wouldn’t support David in every way I can; just don’t want to help Walmart by doing so.
Onto a very trivial matter: having played “Barriers” for a ridiculous amount of time since it leaked this week, I still can’t figure out if David is singing “too many locks, too many cries” or if it’s “too many locks, too many crimes.” What’s the official word on this?
I’m really bad at lyrics, BTW. The first time I heard the snippet, I could’ve sworn he was singing “too many rocks,” which had contributed to my having an initial negative reaction. heh.

The second song, where he sings “and you gaaaazed up at me” is my favorite. I remember watching that little snippet over and over. There’s a lovely quality to his voice for that segment plus he is unbearably adorable. Notice how Michael Johns looks at him – it’s like, who is this kid???

True- a small degree of straying had occurred, but things were back under control. Chickee made a few puns, but the resistance was strong. Things were calming down. Then…..
…..the pictures surfaced. Jackryan posted a link with no warning label, which violates house rules, and rascal devoted a new thread to them within minutes. All heck broke loose. Like a torrent, we were whipped into a frenzie…..look djb, I can only take so much before I break!! I am trying!!! I even posted some very nice poetry to accompany these new very nice photos….

Those highlighted in yellow means no ASCAP registration yet which dumbfounds me cos the album is almost here.
As you will see in the file, only 1 out of 6 songs associated with him as writer are registered. When you click on his name as writer, his accreditation is there but no listing yet of any song/track credited to him.

May I make a suggestion? I think we need a table. Across the top, a column for each of the places from which to purchase. Down along the left, a row for each of the songs that are possible to receive. Then, we put a little check mark in each cell in which the two intersect. Any cell without a check is not available from that ‘vendor’. See

Just to put to rest the speculation concerning this song, I have some insights that I think are important for you all to be aware of. First, the story about this song is that it is about someone else, not him personally. He had been going through a phase where he just didn’t know what to write about although he was encouraged to practice and experiment with writing from the very first meetings with people in the record business. He would sing his own melodies and such, but just couldn’t come up with a complete song and especially felt inadequate towards lyrics. His dad kept trying to encourage him to try even if it didn’t sound perfect to him, as it was all part of the learning process and he needed to exercise his abilitities so in the future it would be easier for him. When they met with the first record labels back when he was 11 (season 1 finale time period), they all said that he should learn to play an instrument (or 2) and also learn how to write songs because that was what a true artist does. When he was 14, he had already been through Star Search and was going through that difficult time of the vocal paralysis when he wasn’t sure how long it would be before he might be able to sing again, and he still had yet to write a complete song with both melody, lyrics, chords, etc. This was the first song he ever wrote and as such, is a very important representation of who he is as an artist and is an incredible example of what I think will come in the future when he has some more influence with the label to do more of his own music. I can imagine it being extremely difficult for him and his dad to try and convince the label that they should put songs by David ahead of ones written by superstar songwriters, and also can imagine how timid David is to insist on things that are possibly in his best interest but he doesn’t want to rock the boat, nor does his Dad.
The story of Falling was based on an actual tragedy of a relative of a relative, not a direct relative of David’s, but a young 21 year old girl who had committed suicide at a family gathering. He was very moved and upset that someone could feel so depressed that they would be willing to carry out ending their own life, and as morbid as this sounds, it was also the catalyst that motivated him to come up with his first complete song. He just felt inspired to try and imagine the feelings she must have been going through, so to clarify, this is not autobiographical but instead is an attempt to try and understand and feel what someone contemplating their own worth must have felt like. To me it is a genius lyric, I have been one of the lucky ones to have heard the whole thing. You will all be totally amazed at the word choices and depth of this song both lyrically and musically. I personally feel this is the most important song on the entire album to show who David is as an artist, and the beautiful arrangement was done under the direction of his dad and some of his dad’s musician friends in Utah. From what I understand, when they were in Utah for a few days, they went and recorded it one day live with the piano person, then a couple of days later after getting the track completed, his dad stayed up til like 3 in the morning with the mixer person and one of the producers to make sure they got it all right. Jeff was very particular about all the little nuances that needed to be in this one as it was the one song that would be totally David on the album and he wanted it to be just right so they spent hours tweeking things that the producers didn’t originally hear or understand about the feeling that needed to be conveyed through the song. The producer who played the keyboards and did the string arrangement during the bridge was the person who wrote the song “Prayer of the Children” which is one of the most beautiful songs ever written, IMHO… It is performed a lot by choral and a capella groups and is always a very solemn song as it also has a very profound background and meaning.
Anyway, just wanted to clear that all up. You will notice an interesting twist at the end of the song as well. More to come once it is released…….
ronaldsf..so glad I peeked in once more before going to bed..The story behind David’s inspiration for his song “Falling” will make my anticipation for the album almost too hard to bare. Knowing the story will now make “Falling” very special to me because of my own personal tragedy. No doubt, I will shed many tears every time I listen to David’s song.
There are so many people curious about David’s song, but I never thought it could be about a tragedy.

RONALDSF on #281 – the ++ signs are from me cos noticed that those tracks are not yet registered with ASCAP. My understanding is that all bonus tracks are by David but that is not confirmed except for FALLING which we both know to be 100% by David – music & lyrics when he was 14yo. BUT that song is also not yet registered, hence the yellow highlights.
Am also wondering about “Don’t Tell Me”. Would be interesting to hear him sing that now.

Not sure about this ordering from Amazon or you can’t burn deal. I have never had ANY problem burning anything from iTunes to a CD to play in my car. Doesn’t matter if its MP3 or MP4. But…I’m on a Mac, so I’m not sure if that makes a difference or not.
Some say that they can burn it but lose the info. I guess if your player in your car displays info it would be an issue. Mine doesn’t … so I don’t really care. haha!
Ronaldsf#313, wanted to add here that what I really like about this story is how it shows David’s innate compassion. For all the critics who’re ready to dismiss him for not being mature enough to sing songs about life without those life experiences, I think this story outlines how David, who’s all heart, will be able to translate many of these experiences through song.
Great that he was encouraged to be a “real” artist by playing a musical instrument and writing songs, but that’s a lot of crap, IMO. That’s like saying, because Billie Holiday only sang and didn’t write her songs or play an instrument, that she’s not a “real artist.”
Who in their right mind would believe such nonsense? But, that’s okay – at least it gave David another dimension to add to his ART that is singing.
On another point: it’s great that Jeff was able to gain some control in the production of the song, especially since the over-production isn’t as impressive on other songs, but his over-involvement does add fuel to the fire about his “stage dad” reputation. Don’t get me wrong: I’m glad he’s looking out for David’s best interest, but these kinds of stories don’t do Jeff any favors.

Silverfox, you were the first person my thoughts went to upon reading this, precisely because of the personal tragedy you shared with us before and that made me think even more about the special connection you’ve said you feel with David. I am pretty sure I will be crying a lot when I hear the full song come 11/11.

I am extremely thankful that his dad is there to push for things, to assert things on behalf of David as I know you are too and that could never be characterized as over-involvement because it is not more than it should be. Some day, David will be able to speak for himself better but in the meantime whatever Jeff is doing now is the needed and necessary involvement and I applaud him for it in light of the fact that he knows his stage dad reputation is still following him.
Many people with a wealth of life experiences never seem to develop the ability to empathize. It is David’s empathy that makes him who he is as an artist. And as a human being.
HG Re Jeff’s (over)involvement – my understanding is that he is now co-managing David’s music career along with Azoff’s Jared Paul. Whereas before he was only acting on his personal capacity as guardian for the still minor David, the deal they struck with Azoff allows him in an official capacity to influence David’s work.
Meanwhile, 19R maintains overseeing the production of the album and we know what could happen if they rely on that. Yeah give the AI studio version of Angel to Jive, who for the life of me I could not understand why they would settle for that since they themselves attended one of the concerts. Perhaps short-cutting the process as they were pressed for time. Good thing Jeff has an official voice now, right?

Good morning all!
vermeer and Jackryan, RE Jeff, you’re right to remind me that David is a minor and needs his father to advocate for him, especially in light of what happened to “Angels” and what could have happened to “Falling.” I was merely referring to his very meticulous attention and insistence that certain tracks are done a certain way. Great for David, but I was merely suggesting that this kind of behavior does get interpreted as “over-involvement” and, yes, it could make others see him as a “stage dad.” That’s all I’m saying.
So, last night I had yet another David dream. This one was sad. I dreamed that I was in a studio with a bunch of other Archies, and we were waiting to meet David. After awhile, his management announced that there was a change of plans and we wouldn’t be able to meet him after all. We were all disappointed, but got up to leave. When we went on an elevator, the others got off on the lobby, and I got off on the basement level since it looks like I was heading to a garage where I was parked. While walking through the corridor, I found David sitting in a corner all by himself sobbing. I of course immediately went to him, asking him what’s wrong. He looks up at me, his eyes red from crying, and then shook his head. He told me that his vocal paralysis had come back! He also said that the doctors told him this time he had to have surgery, and there was a high chance he won’t be able to sing again!
He then sobbed uncontrollably, and I sat by him and wrapped him up in my arms trying to comfort him. I was trying to tell him that there’s what the doctors say and what God does, and that his voice is a miracle. He just cried on my shoulder. I also told him there’s always his Plan B to become a doctor and work to restore his voice that way. He just continued to cry on my shoulder, so then I offered to pray, and he said OK. So, we prayed that he (and the rest of US!) will get to keep his voice. And then I woke up.
This was probably the saddest dream I had about him!
I am pleased that David has his Dad in his court. He is part of the management team but he doesn’t “manage” David. He supports him. They have similar dreams and goals.
I am looking forward to hearing “Falling”. Many of us have been touched by the terrible tragedy of suicide. Because of physical health problems I struggled with the darkness depression brings. The pain is unbelievable. I knew it would pass as the physical problems were handled but if I would have had to live like that day after day with no respite, I would have found the closest railroad track. I feel nothing but love and compassion when I hear someone has taken that route. My first high school “Crush” did after years of service to the world.
Jackyran, I voted more last week than I ever have because I was nervous about all the distraction with the album leak. I am upping it again this week album out or not. Actually I am on a David fast. I am not listening to any of the new songs-real hard as I really want even a snippet of Falling but I am going to truly enjoy every moment of my download on 11/11. I wanted to take the day off but an office party made it impossible. I should just blast David over the whole group but it’s not that kind of party. Ah well. I will be hitting Walmart before work though. Don’t know if the album will be there but I will be.

I’ve had the same thoughts about why David needs to also write music in order to be considered an artist. As far as I know, Mozart didn’t sing and Caruso, Garland, Sinatra, etc. didn’t write. Maybe this dual expectation is a sign of the times. Maybe it is because he’ll realize more of a financial benefit. Luckily, he seems to be gifted in both areas, singing and composing. But, the expectation itself seems unfair to me.

HG, I hear you totally, that Jeff will always be risking deepening his (unjustified) reputation anytime he is involved a little or heavily in David’s affairs. It is unfortunate and one of those unjust things in life, but doing the right thing, in this case, helping David, comes first and one can’t worry about the rest too much. It will be what it will be. What’s not good for Jeff (the stage dad accusation) had proven to be not good for David as we all have witnessed, but I believe in the end, the truth always will prevail (am I idealistic?).

HG..very sad dream. Last night was very hard for me, couldn’t fall asleep..too many memories, things I hadn’t thought about for almost a year. The title of David’s song “Falling” is a good description of what my son went through..he was falling into an abyss and there was no way back for him. Or for me, until David.
Anyway, I was finally able to sleep and had good dreams, woke up at about 4:00 with words just pouring out, words I felt compelled to write down, and I felt strangely at peace again. I Have to confess that David is in my dreams almost every night..just there, somewhere, just a presence, sometimes he speaks, sometimes he sings, always he smiles. I know that sounds so unreal..but there it is. This is why a while ago I asked in one of my posts if anyone else had dreams of David. I wonder why, sometimes. I know I go on about David like an unashamed over-aged groupie, but at the end of the day, David means more to me than just THE FACE or
even THE VOICE..he saved me..that he doesn’t know and probably never will, makes no difference because I KNOW..that’s all that matters to me.

Vermeer, yes, I can be a worrywart, but there’s nothing I’m particularly worried about right now. Since last week, I’ve been on such a high, finally understanding what it is to be optimistic and hopeful. So, I have no idea what that David dream is about, since I’m so looking forward to the release of his album.

I won’t begin to interpret it, but I know that many of us have protective feelings about David and worry about his health and emotional well-being and safety. I’ve heard the same concerns from friends about Obama. People want him to be safe and strong.

The history video I made, BTW, I feel I owe in part to David inspiring me. If I hadn’t gotten my feet wet doing my fan video for him, I probably wouldn’t have attempted a video in response to the elections.
David is destined, not only to conquer us one song at a time, but to bring out the artist in all of us.

Welcome, carollann! I love the Elle photos, too, and went to B&N yesterday to get my copy of the mag. Wasn’t out yet, dang it.
I’ve heard the argument that a musician needs to play an instrument and write in order to be considered an artist. I think David is capable and will grow in this regard, but I also think about the tons of songwriters out there who don’t have good singing voices. What’s to become of them? (If I were one, I’d want David Archuleta to be singing my song. Just sayin’.)
I wonder if the argument is made to artists beginning a career – it must be so hard to break in. I believe that Taylor Swift was told the same thing, and since her strength is in her songwriting, she must be glad she got that advice!
Anyone have info in when ELLE December issue comes out? I did not see anything on their web site. I looked for People today in Shaws and Jenifer Hudson was on the cover. I read that David is in the one with Pres. Obama. Anyone find either at a book seller?

First I would like to apologize is I offended anyone with my comment on one of the previous posts, re the whistling into to YEDL. It was not my intention at all.
Now, as I listen, yet again, to the tracks of David’s debut album – the tears streaming down my face – I accept that this young man touches me deep inside on a level that strips me of coherent thought. I just feel. People can talk about the overproduction of the tracks, quirkiness of some of the lyrics … but I just listen to David’s voice, pay attention to the words, and cry. Desperate is the song that I connect with the most, perhaps because of my continuing battle with depression. I can totally relate to being desperate – all the emotions described in the verses… and THE CHORUS, well. “You want somebody, just anybody To lay their hands on your soul tonight You want a reason to keep believin’ That someday you’re gonna see the light.”
David is the one who “layed his hands on MY soul”. He has inspired me to find a way to find my way, back, day by day and to start to come alive.
If I feel this way listening to these album tracks, what will I do when I hear him in concert? I won’t stop me though.

ronaldsf, it is great to see you here! You asked me to check out this website a long time ago, and I’m so happy I did! Anyway, I loved the story behind “Falling.” I think a few of us (myself included) tend to see David as having a charmed life since he is so supremely talented and has achieved so much success at an early age. But as is so often the case, we often do not see the pain of others that lies beneath the surface. David has had to deal with his share of life’s tragedies, including the one you relayed in this account. David, being a sensitive and gifted individual, turned to creating beautiful music in order to come to terms with his suffering and the suffering of a tortured soul. I have not heard “Falling” yet, but if it is as good as everyone on this blog says it is, I’m sure it will bring me to gushing tears as has been the case with so many of his songs. Thank you for giving us another glimpse into David’s heart. He is a gift to hold dear!
