Wishing for David, Imagining Peace

Nathalene is one of our most creative Archies (she and her husband have a design company in California) and was inspired to include David in her contributions to the Imagine Peace Project. So that David could be aware of what had been done in his name, Nathalene put together an absolutely beautiful book commemorating the “wishes” added to one of the project’s initiatives, Wish Trees for Pasadena.
But Nathalene opened her heart even more. Instead of giving the book to David on her own behalf–even though everything comprised her ideas, thoughts, and activities–she invited several of David’s most devoted Internet fan communities to take part in the dedication to David. David is blessed to have an Archie like Nathalene, and we are honored to have her as part of our community here at notingDavid.
Nathalene got a chance to present the book to David yesterday. Here is her wonderful story.
I’m happy to report MISSION ACCOMPLISHED! I was able to get it to David at the taping of the Spike Feresten show last night. (Either myself or fellow fan, Monica, will have a full report on fansofdavid.com.)
Myself, my BFF Jen, and fellow Archie, Monica, were lucky enough to be in the studio during David’s sound check. We were the only fans there. He saw us there, we waved to him, and stayed out of the way. The check lasted for about 15-20 minutes, and while David met with all the crew, we had a pleasant chat with Jeff. I now know what other people mean when they say that Jeff talks about David just like we do. He thanked us for our support, to which we had to retort back “No. Thank YOU!”.
After the check, one of the production mgrs started to lead David out of the set to go get ready. But they stayed behind us, and we could still see David through the equipment. David was peering through to us as well, so I waved and said “David, I have a gift to you.” He gave me the “oh, ok” look and he obliged to come back to us. So sweet.
I took the book out and started to explain it. Let me just say, I wouldn’t have chosen any better way to give this to him. I was so grateful to be in a quiet, more private setting. But whatever setting it may be, David always gives you his undivided attention. I continued, and he seemed intrigued that it was part of the Imagine Peace Project. Then that same production manager interrupted, telling David that he had to go get ready, but David stayed, and remained so patient with me. I basically ended by saying, “It’s just a simple gesture. It’s all explained in here, if you have time to read it.” And he gave me that signature “Awww, wow, that’s so cool. I will. Thank you so much.” It was very sincere, and I was very honored to give it to him.
After the show, we got to go backstage and we ran into David, Jeff, and David’s family friend (same one from Leno who was with Lauri). She came up to me and told me that David loved it. My heart swelled. As we were getting ready to leave, I gave David one final gift — a retractable sharpie marker. (I always see him using the one with the cap when signing autographs and I can only guess how tedious it gets taking that cap on and off). He looked me dead straight in the eye — a look that kept me in a frozen trance — and said “Thank you. Thank you so much.”
I’d like to think he wasn’t just thanking me for the sharpie.
Thanks to all of you who shared in signing the book with me.
-Nat
Click in for another pic of David and his new friend, and for a few images from the Imagine book. Thank you, Nathalene, for allowing us to participate.

Rascal,
Thanks for sharing and thank you again for including us on such a beautiful project. I hope every wish expressed comes true for our beloved “Angel” -- David.
rascal…Beautiful..just beautiful, like David!
Oh Nat -- Your dream came true! I am so so so HAPPY for you, for all of us, and for David. What a wonderful thing you did. (And I have to admit to a little thrill, seeing my name up there right next to Rascal’s! Extra thanks for that!)
David’s goodness inspires so much goodness in all of us. And this is just the beginning, isn’t it?
“Imagine Peace” — Nat, what a wonderful gift, perfect for David. How beautiful and thoughtful of you and your husband. I’m happy to see a tag from all of the devoted fans at noting david. It’s perfect. And what a thrill it must have been to spend those several minutes with David. Gosh.
What a beautiful gift. Thank you to all who participated. There is no expression of love and devotion to big for our precious David.
omgggggggg I am crying now after reading that wish!
Beautiful. Hearing about such generosity of spirit makes me so proud to be a part of David’s fanbase. He attracts good people and he inspires goodwill. Thank your for sharing your experience. I’m a happy fan today.
This is a fantastic story! Thanks for sharing. I didn’t even know there was an “Imagine Peace” project, but it sounds wonderful.
Just beautiful Nat, what a wonderful gift and your wish for David is a testament to what we all feel for David and are able share to here. I thank you for including us and am so happy you had a good opportunity to give him the gift and spend a few moments with him!
David you are loved.
What a wonderful wish for our David!
I love when he gives a fan his complete attention and nobody can pull him away…we are as important to him as he is to us.
David has the best set of fans in the whole wide world! The wish could not have been written any better. Thanks for sharing this rascal…
(I still don;t know why I am unable to post a message I have tried posting for 3rd time now in the last thread!)
Powerful! John Lennon seems to channel through that beautiful project. David has many “mentors” on TeamDavid.
I wasn’t aware of this either. Thanks so much for enlightening me.

HG and Jackryan -- Love the new avi’s.
I have an uplifting story I would like to share with everyone. My autistic sister visiting from Trinidad is for the most part non-verbal and every once in a while you can catch her humming. I’ve been playing David’s music off the computer every chance I get, but to my surprise I actually recognized what she was humming today. It was the chorus of Somebody Out There and she had a smile on her face. I was absolutely floored. I then took her over to the computer screen and started showing her a picture of David, repeating his name so she could say it in her way. It just goes to show that David’s beautiful voice can touch the heart and mind of even a special needs adult.
I just saw David on Ellen! The “Ohmigosh Ashley” David was in full gear!
My favorite exchange:
David: I told you it was a lame story.
Ellen: Yes, and we should have believed you.
ha ha!
Joymus, what a truly awesome story! Especially with a song like “Somebody Out There.” There is just something primal about David’s voice that commands attention -- no matter who’s listening!
Oh joymus am floored with your story. Am just recovering from taking in the wish of the Imagine Project, now this. Thank you so much for sharing.
It is probably why my previous post is not showing -- cos there are better posts that must be read 1st
David and Ellen interacted beautifully. He loves her, and is clearly an adorable fanboy, and she took a shine to him.
I wanted to share what happened with one of my gifted CDs. I sent it to a fan in Singapore, but after I sent it she found out that the album in fact was released simultaneously in Singapore. Being that she is able to get her own CD, she suggested another idea. She is going to give my CD to an elderly Catholic priest who just loves David’s music. I just thought that was an incredible twist in the story and it really touched me.
Joymus, I gasped when I read your story.
We’re not crazy. There is something truly remarkable in his voice. I just got a book that I’ve heard a lot about called “This is Your Brain on Music.” I have a feeling there is going to be some very relevant material in there.

Rascal, thank you so much. And thank you to everyone for your comments.
I just want to clarify that the “…this is my wish” page is a song dedication to David. It’s the song “My Wish” by Rascal Flatts. I did write something to David, so I thank Rascal for keeping it private.
Just for the record, each and every one of David’s fansites show so much love for David and represent what good David inspires. I’m in awe of every single one of them, especially those like TeamArchie and the Pay It Forward project. I wish I had the bandwith to follow and include them all (and I’m sure there are ones I don’t even know about!). Anyway, thanks again everyone. I’m humbled. Now I seriously hope he wasn’t just thanking me for the sharpie.
I was unaware of this project also ~ but what wonderful stories! It always warms my heart to see David showered with remembrances of his wonderful gift to all of us ~ he so deserves all the wonderful gestures made in his name! I pray that, in his lifetime, he will experience many, many more exciting and thrilling honors!
WE LOVE YOU, DAVID!
Nathalene, I also love your pictures with David! Beautiful!
Joymus #13 What a wonderful story and does it not speak to the power of David’s voice?
Joymus#13: I love that story. There seems to be no ‘barriers’ to what David’s voice can do for people.
Joymus— thank you so much for for sharing your beautiful story—you have made me teary.
I have the great privilege of teaching music appreciation/fundamentals to children and parents. Some of my greatest experiences are teaching and learning along side children with special needs —music is able to the release their spirit and find their inner voice ( whether it be humming, tapping, rocking). The heart connection that is made through music/dance is like no other ( in my opinion ). Thank you again for your story. I have been thinking of incorporating David’s music into the curriculum— I think I just might!
Rascal, thank you so much……..just beautiful; and it’s wonderful to be celebrating all that is David. Good people inspire others to do good, that is the thread that binds us all here at notingDavid.
Joymus, your story brought me to tears. Thank you.
SF, i’ve been wanting for days to tell you how your prayer to David moved me. These last few days have been some of the most awe inspiring for me in years. And I do have some years on me. Between David’s album release/watching him in interviews/radio/appearances, wow, just wow….
Betsey, how is your grandson? love seeing your new avi’s. I understand djb is now going by dj and loves switching up her avi to keep us on our toes. Hi Happy!
I had a delightful day. I brought my i-pod into work and had people listening to songs from David’s new album, specifically Falling and Somebody Out There.
Everyone LOVE LOVE LOVED them!
I got comments like “He’s HOW OLD??”, “That’s the best singer I’ve ever heard”, “He didn’t win??”, and some just shook their heads in awe and were like, “WOW”, and the were especially impressed when I told them he co-wrote some of the songs on the album too.
Yep, I have my own little street team going on here!
Okay, I just watched the Ellen segment on my TiVo (YouTube satiates our need for immediacy but true performance appreciation demands quality playback) and I have to say, this one is a keeper. Virtually every aspect of the David Archuleta appeal is here. The full-on, throw-down performance (which we know he liked because of that smile at the end), the golly-gosh excitement, and the self-deprecating wit that Ellen was thoroughly plugged into.
How can a guy who touches the heart so deeply also be so ludicrously entertaining?
I just watched it also Rascal, (via DVR, thank God for it), and David certainly does love a good belly laugh. This interaction with Ellen reminded me so much of the May Regis/Kelly appearance. Regis was cracking David up, big time. David certainly is an enigma, to answer your question. Just when we think we have him pegged, another “David dimension” appears. We keep peeling back his layers, and lovin’ every minute of it.
Did you guys pick up on the tinge of disappointment on David’s face when he realized the interview was over? He typically seems relieved but this time I think he really wanted to keep chatting with her! I love Ellen!
Evening everyone! Watched THE VOICE on Ellen..he was almost as excited to see Ellen as I expect he was when he saw Mraz..well maybe he was more in awe of Mraz..Anyway..he did a great job and seems more at ease singing Crush. And he changed it up again! haha! Never sings a song the same way twice!
joymus,,your story was truly uplifting indeed. Thank you for sharing. There is no limit to the miracle that is David’s voice. And rascal, no we are not crazy. Not when we hear stories like this…
But we are cra-zeh when it comes to our ODD!! Just a few hours left to vote on VH1..we can’t let David down again like last week..If he’s not back at #1, it will break my heart for him, but he won’t even care..he will just be happy to be there talking about his album! So we have to keep voting!
rascal…your ODD is showing BIG-TIME!! It’s almost freaky! haha!
hey SF/guess who else NEVER sang a song the same way twice? the one and only Frank Sinatra. Imagine our David being mentioned in the same category as the “other voice?” Heart be still.
Going to go vote my irish “arse” off at VH1. Everyone, go VOTE VOTE VOTE!!!!!!!!
Dang it, silverfox, you don’t miss a trick, do you?
Don’t you all realize by now that the very fact of this site indicates a level of ODD that is off the f@^%!#g charts? You really think that you all are the only smitten, over-the-top, intoxicated, kool-aid drunken Archulunatics to ever hit the computer screen sixty-seven times a day? Ha! I am trying my best to sublimate it with analysis, deconstruction, objectivity, and intellectual indifference, but oh my heck the plain fact of the matter is that I LOVE THIS FREAKING KID.
Does it show?
Only 67 times? I’m in atrouble.
What a lovely post to come home to, thank you, Rascal. And Joymus, thank you for sharing your story, just beautiful.
Just watched Ellen … twice. LOVE … well … everything about it. The way David changed up the opening, how relaxed and confident he was, the tightness of the whole band with David leading the way, every glorious note and, yeah, that smile at the end. Fanflippintastic.
And he got to the couch! I remember when Fantasia performed on Ellen the year she WON — no couch, just the song. So standing-O Lettuce Boy!!!!
Whoa..down boy!! I get it…ya love this kid..It shows!
FREAK!!
And I mean that in the most loving way!! It takes one to know one!
Gee, Rascal, I wouldn’t have guessed that you LOVED THIS FREAKING KID. I mean, what’s a little blog site, and what’s a little over-protective raging against his label for not recognizing “the artistry of David”, huh?
Not that I am one to pass judgment when I:
1.) visit Noting David religiously.
2.) created a fan video and took the time to learn how to do so with movie maker (and planning fan video#2).
3.) launched a resource site when folks here said we needed a DA bibliograpny.
4.) dreamed about him at least four times.
I’m sure there are other countless examples, but you get the point.
Yep, cuh-razy David freaks. It’s awesome to be part of the “cult” (I think that’s what mainstream media are now calling us Archies -- they think we’ve lost it! ha ha!).
Ha ha, silverfox, I will always relish the freak label. Indeed, there is no other
Hey, let’s look at it this way: In his earliest interviews, David repeatedly referred to himself as “weird.” He’s a freak and he knows it. All geniuses are freaks. He’s in good company here.
Go Freaks!
JOYMUS -- At David Is My Hero, another arch angel shared that he owed his being an arch angel to his mom who is suffering with Alzheimer’s Disease. Given her condition, she can no longer remember him but to his surprise would remember David during AI days. So the family used that as their bonding time. Isn’t that great, David is even uniting families right across the screen, w/o him knowing it! Well actually he knows that story by now cos he got the DIMH book
RASCAL at #18 -- you do know that Crush was performed by the St. Martin’s Symphony of LA and is part of the CD “Classical Music for Pregnant Mothers to Enhance A Smart Baby?
Not his voice but still, his music
If you guys haven’t heard of it, here you go:
http://www.sendspace.com/file/bzm9gq
Jackryan, very cute story about the classical music thing -- but you do know scientists have since debunked that theory?
Then again, considering these personal stories, like the one Joymus shared with us, David is now here to prove them wrong (at least about music in general -- classical or otherwise).
I am PROUD to be a WEIRD DAVID FREAK! In fact, rascal, the biggest compliment you gave me was when you called me a FREAK! I felt like I had done GOOD!
Yeah, rascal #34, it kind of shows.
What crap are u guys saying, Rascal love The Archuleta? (looks at the sky) Who would have guessed!!?? My goodness! He just dedicated 3 threads ranting against The Machine -- and as I could not post at length at that time RASCAL, you had me laughing at your unavowed affection for this kid
BTW, I wonder why I can’t post one particular message since yesterday? Wonder what’s up with that…
Hi Liz! I’m trying to calm rascal…He’s losing it, or maybe he’s already lost it! We may need someone to take over for him for a couple of days…The Ellen & David show just “freaked” him out (in a very good way)..In fact, he’s pro-buh-blee watching TiVo as we post!!
LOL, davidfanLIZ, are you now the Queen of Understatement?
Just jumpin in to happily proclaim my freaky happiness for one David Archuleta. Great thread.
Joymous awesome story. Really.
Look you guys, I don’t want to claim any special insight, I really don’t, but if you go back to my comments about meeting him you’ll see that I am highly sensitized to a certain reserve in him. I see it in his interpersonal engagements, I even see it in his performances. I rejoice when he relinquishes this, when he seems to feel utterly unencumbered. On Ellen, he did. And I rejoice.
Would anyone counter if SF gets the 5-star Freakin’ General? Just sayin… tee-hee
BTW,
have you voted? have you voted? have you voted? have you voted?
have you voted? have you voted? have you voted? have you voted?
have you voted? have you voted? have you voted? have you voted?
have you voted? have you voted? have you voted? have you voted?
yes, Rascal, I remember you commenting on his personality and thinking he had a certain reserved nature to him. that you found him to be this way was interesting to me and I wanted to explore that a bit more with you. yep, I didn’t forget……….I also remember on a thread during the summer you referred to him as a frat boy. LOL, LOVED IT!!!
I think Happy put some extra special something in the brownies today. haha!
I too absolutely LOVED the Ellen interview. Could he get any cuter????
jackryan, remember when you said a few days ago “Light your Fire?” I’ve had the flippin’ Doors song in my head all week -- c’mon baby Light My Fire!! oh yeah, I voted so many times, my finger tip if black and blue. ok, c’mon Angels, Vote like you’ve never done before.
Hey Josie, how are you? I’ll bet you are looking forward to your daughter coming home for Thanksgiving. I remember those days. ahhh
I love this thread.. touching and ludicrously entertaining!
Really you guys are too much. Only DA could bring together a group of such amazing people…fans…freaks.
rascal…When you met THE VOICE, I buh-lieve he was not feeling well and besides who wouldn’t be “reserved” if someone said “Listen, I write about you”. At that point, rascal, YOU had our luv hypnotized & mesmerized there’s even a photo to prove it! Remember?
josie..you were there, you took the photo!!
But you are right, David really likes Ellen. Was there ever any doubt he would? I’m just happy she liked him too!
LIZ, how about those plaid pants -- love the plaid looks lately, like the plaid blazer he had on at the rehearsal the other night? and the black shoes the other day? yumm………
so I log on to find that we are now “freaking” angels…lol I’m in … wherever this boy /man leads I’m followin’. call me a freak, angel whatever!
CHICKEE -- yup that’s the point!
Come Angels, light that fire! Just hours left to ensure that when David introduces the top video during his VH1 guesting, it is HIS video!
We all wanna see that smile that Regis himself wasn’t able to resist, right? LOL, I can’t shake off Regis man-crush on David LOL
Refnaf, we have to stop meeting like this!
It could be considered freakish….
I also found David very reserved when I met him. He spoke very quietly and treated me with great respect. But then, with some younger and goofier fans that same night, he was laughing and joking. He responds to the person.
He and Ellen were so perfectly matched, it was great fun to watch.
chickee, I’m not in love with the plaid pants, but I loved the leather jacket and the shirt and tie ensemble. It’s great that he’s trying out different styles.

silverfox -- I am truly impressed by the accuracy of your recollection, but, in fact, the reserve that I observed was most in evidence as I watched him with others before I met him. I don’t think his being under-the-weather was a factor. He appeared, to the “untrained eye,” to be thoroughly engaged, completely attentive, utterly generous. And yet…. I felt like something was being withheld. The irony is that this runs contrary to what virtually everyone’s experience with him has been--they all claim to have felt a singular connection, unencumbered by reserve. I absolutely saw how they could see that, but I felt like I was looking at a bigger, more dimensional picture, one that revealed a warren of privacy obfuscated by a luminous openness. It’s complicated. Interestingly, there are times--far less often--when I see this scaffolding break down. Today was just such a time.
jackryan4DA -- I’m voting, I’m voting!!
so Liz..are you saying that if rascal had acted all fangirly, gushy, giggly & goofy, David would have laughed & joked with him? Dang, rascal! You messed up!
When I stalked..uh, followed him down the barricade in Evansville, we laughed & kinda joked…hmmmm. Do you think he responded to my weirdness & freakiness?
Liz..You totally deserve respect…me, well…hahaha, is all I can do!
I’m a David freak and I haven’t been sober for a single day.
I spend 95% of my free time at the computer. My hand hurts from excess clicking and my eyes are tired. I’ll only go to work after reluctant realization that I’m left with 10 or 15 minutes to drive through chaotic traffic. I’ve neglected marking my students papers and preparing lessons. I get funny looks from close friends and family.
The worst part: I can’t be bothered.
G’night all!
Tks for the joyous thread.
Yes, Rascal, I don’t know if he was revelling in the after-glow of a performance he knew he nailed, or just thrilled to meet the voice behind “Dory”
but David was so happy and relaxed and engaged — pure joy to watch.
I did not get the feeling that Ellen “loved” David.
Didn’t she eagerly agree with Simon’s comments against David just days before the finale?
Why such a short interview? Why bring Cook up when you’re only going to give him a minute or 2 of your time? Didn’t she say we love Cook and as an after thought include we love you too. I too agree that David looked surprised that he was cut off so quickly.
I am sure Cook will be on her show in the next week or two. Let’s watch for the differences. By the way Cook is on Leno tonight.
PS -- dragged a friend to 2 different walmarts tonight. One that had 10 on release day still had 4 left -- not good.
The other Walmart NEVER RECEIVED ANY of David’s cd -- even worse.
Both stores had racks and huge displays of Taylor Swift -- very eye catching
Rena, #70, just fyi, many of the musical acts appearing on Ellen’s show don’t get invited over for a “chat” at all, so that was quite a coup for our David!
HG at #43 -- debunked or not, it is interesting to see CRUSH as the only pop entry in that album
Re David’s appearance at Ellen’s
I was LMAO with David’s hand and arm gestures. He was literally spazzing. Oh if he only knew how much spazzing goes on here & other fansites!
rascal, I agree that David has layers and layers. How the heck could he not be reserved when he is such a gentle soul? He is almost not of this world and has only recently learned how to interact with the larger world beyond a handful of friends. And what pure joy to see him connecting on all levels with Crush and the interview with Ellen. Joyous!
……and yes, SF, perhaps if rascal had released his true fanboy self, then David would have responded with some goofiness and giddiness haha!!
Rena # 70
I totally agree with your perception.
I thought she was trying hard not to bite.
After the lettuce story she looked, I don’t know.
Most people find it funny. Great. Hope we’re wrong.
And the ‘we love Cook’ was kinda weird.
Having said that, I really don’t care what she thinks about him and I’m surprised so many Archies do.
His peformance was great, though.
And the bro-mance continues…
Seventeen year old “Archie” says he’s giving the older David’s single “Light On” prominent play on his iPod -- while the Idol winner is so sure of the younger David’s success that he’s incorporating the “Crush” singer into his own career backup plan.
“I think David A. is destined for great things -- he has the talent to pull it off,” 25-year-old David C. tells In Touch. “If my record flops, maybe he’ll need a guitar player!”

New ABC radio interview:
http://abcnews.go.com/Video/playerIndex?id=6255341
I’m watching Ellen again right now..I absolutely LOVE the way David talks with his hands!! I don’t think he can really talk without using his hands his hands..I can relate! haha! I can really see how rascal is over the moon with our luv! I think it all came together today for David..his performance was great, his band sounded great, he even dressed differently..He looked great!
haha jackryan, Cook always has been gracious and generous to our David. Remember the bows to David after “Please Don’t Stop the Music?” and some day, years down the road, they could be the BEST comedy team, maybe their own show? oh, the possibilities….
There could be any number of reasons why Ellen might not be feeling full-on gushy over David (three or four that I can think of right off the bat) but it doesn’t matter, and I’m not even willing to agree that it’s true. David cares very little what others think of him. He cares far more about finding the good to think about in others.
I know what you mean Rascal on #79, I mean at least on one very recent reason… was a bit concerned about that for a while… Which is why I have to hand it to Ellen for being professional It’s not as if David has any direct hand in it.
Ellen has her own musical tastes. She doesn’t have to be gushy over David. And it’s OK if Cook is more her cup of tea musically. She’s allowed. But I think she really liked David upon meeting him. I noticed, mostly in the interaction before cutting to commercial after the performance and while the credits rolled after the interview, almost a motherly thing going on there. She was comfortably touching hiim and hugging him and engaged with him, making him feel comfortable. I think it went great.
BTW -- Tofan -- Thanks for the link. That ABC radio interview was great! I’ve heard that lady do interviews with people before. She’s a good interviewer. She puts people at ease somehow and they really have thoughtful engaging interviews with her.
I thought David and Ellen got along like a house-afire!
I love how he bantered back at her *I told you it was lame* They were pretty funny together and David seems to adore her. Like old friends teasing each other!
I’m late!! TGIF!
rascal- first up: I love you, and your ODD. Where were would we be without you? questioning our sanity, that’s for sure!
betsy- your avi makes me happy.
joymus- your story is amazing.
chickee- starting with “light my fire” so early in the night? what were you thinking?
juliebug- I thought you all had eaten too many brownies for sure, so I changed my avi special for chickee…
rascal, jr, funny..I was concerned about the how Ellen would receive David because of those “issues”, however, if we’ve learned anything about David, it’s that he has no “issues”. I think Ellen “got” that today!
I enjoyed the exchange between Ellen and David. I sensed that she came away with a new-found understanding of David’s mass appeal, both musically and personally. I especially liked their interaction when the credit while the credits were rolling. Although short in duration, it was a very nice gesture on her part -- atypical for a closing musical number by an emerging artist. Sometimes a shows closing credits are rolling immediately after the closing performance. Ellen is fully aware of David’s successful debut, and from a professional standpoint will most likely foster and maintain a good relationship in the likelihood of future David appearances.
rascal- a synonym for “freak” is “ODDity”
I noticed Ellen made a point to offer a public explanation for why David didn’t appear closer to the end of AI…..
OMG, happy, your avitar is WHAT??? you are just too much. and have you lit that fire yet tonight? if your fingertip isn’t black/blue yet, go do it!!!
Betsey, I posted to you earlier tonight. Your grandson, wow, what a doll!!! I believe he is crooning along to a David song!!
Way to go Chickee! YUP people, better work on those keyboard/mices -- vote, vote vote!
happy I also have that your avi in my avatar reserve -- joyful joyful!
From Deseret News:
“I don’t want to be a slacker,” he said during a Deseret News interview when the “American Idols Live” concert was in town in July. “And I want my fans to be happy that they are my fans.”
David -- you bet!
Happy, woo-hoo, happy, lalala, lalalala… remember that song?
yeah, David, all your fans live in LaLaLand, and happy to be here. Wouldn’t have it any other way!
As Roy Orbison once sang, “Anything you Need, You Got It.” anything David.
chickee- …well, since David is SMOKIN’….. you know the old phrase “where there’s smoke, there’s FIRE…”
JR- don’t move in on my “yesterday’s avi”, but clear your cache and check out today’s
Betsy, your avi is awwwww-some! (And Happy, you’re on FI-AH!)
I thought Ellen gave David plenty o’hugs. Heck, we can’t expect everyone to go all Regis over him….:)
I agree Juliebug, one of my favourite interviews so far. I love hearing him talk about songwriting (or just about anything, really….)
TOfan- thanks for the ABC link. I agree- one of the best so far…, and not a single girlfriend question….
Rascal- did the ABC interview calm your nerves? He seems genuinely satisfied and he even referred to the first paragraph of the last thread- he found his own pleasure, surprise, and growth in trying new songs!
THANK YOU EVERYONE FOR YOUR KIND COMMENTS!
I had to share my story and run because I had to perform Mendelssohn’s ELIJAH with my classical choir tonight, tomorrow and Sunday evening.
I caught David’s performance just before leaving home and I have to agree that from the very first changed up oh’s ,I felt it was going to be a special performance. Just like the AI tour, the more he performs the same song -- the more experimental he becomes, and this translates into his delivery. As the old saying goes -- Practice makes perfect!
HG From the previous thread, great idea to collate all reviews; in case you have not seen this, please include this one

SAWEEEET!
http://www.trendhunter.com/trends/david-archuleta
Rarely does TrendHunter.com cover music, but David Archuleta is a name worth mentioning. The 17-year-old American Idol finalist has caused so much buzz in the media this week, we can’t not mention him.
Tween and teen girls adore him, yet while some media outlets herald his upbeat, teenie-bopper, hand-holding tunes, others report David Archuleta left them flat.
This is precisely why we steer away from covering artists, but once in a while, a singer creeps onto the radar that truly is doing something cutting edge, or pioneering a new scene like young David Archuleta.
VOTE, VOTE, VOTE Archies!
SF/ronaldsf/Chickee/djb- are we ready for the upcoming Spanish album? “On fire” will not begin to describe it…..I am worried about us- about our longevity, post-Spanish-album-release date.
Thoughtfully though, after the Spanish-feast-for-the-body he will offer up a cleansing feast for the soul with the inspirational album……
He is a feast for the eyes, the body, and the soul……
Re TMH as the next single
I recognize that quite a number of you prefer other tracks to be the next single, especially after the bonus tracks came out. In my initial CD review, I indicated that after listening to the whole set for the nnnnth time, TMH, surprisingly stood out for me. I suppose because next toYou Can, TMH sounded the most organic, at least to me. It sounds different among the lot yet not unDavid. A poll between MH & TMH was conducted, right? And TMH prevailed over MH. But at that time, I chose MH. But after hearing the whole album, TMH stood out for me and was the 1st ear worm (after Crush, that is)
Admittedly, TMH is not the strongest cut in the album but I don’t think this was the basis of Jive’s choice. Its beat is simple -- just about 5-6 (guitar)chords -- similar to MH. Yet it is engaging. It has this concert feel to it. Among the tracks, TMH affords the most opportunity for audience participation/interaction.The imagery is so palpable I could almost taste it. Given that his next exposure would be the JingleBall series & a solo tour, TMH is a perfect piece for such undertaking. The other up side is that it is not as taxing as Crush!
The other things is that perhaps we should also take a macro perspective, like checking out the releases for the same period. (http://www.metacritic.com/music/upcomingreleases.shtml). Given this, we can see/hear the TMH-advantage. Apart from the ballads, most of the songs are Chris Brownish or Neyo-ishy sounding, just like what are already out there. Some cuts are edgier or more experimental but may have an uphill battle. Desperate has that emo-pop-rock feel — it will go head-to-head with Cook’s selection. ALTNOY is a ready-to-be-single solid number + it’s strong & catchy but is too close to the Crush brand.
Now, Barriers is quite interesting with its swaybot inducing tune but I noticed that it has a line in its chorus that is melodically the same as Christina Aguillera’s I Turn To You. With CA’s Greatest Hit album launched the same period, it may invite undue attention to this quirk.
I can hear the one of the ballads as the 3rd or 4th single among the 12 tracks. My heart is with You Can.
So to me, the selection of TMH as the next single makes sense. But what do I know? Am not one of the suits – haha. As an aside, TMH is enjoying good airplay here in Manila
Wait till they hear the bonus tracks. Everyone here will be blown away! The male DJs here in fact are one by one grudgingly admitting that David’s album rocks!
Meanwhile, my Cookiefied officemates have already raised the white flag re the Sounds of Davids Haha!
My 5 choices for his JingleBall performance:
Crush, TMH, You Can, LMG, SOT
JR- thanks for the links-- more fun!
Tofan #79: Thanks for sharing the ABC Radio link. It was neat to hear in his own words what he is doing with regard to his career. It is a bravura performance for the kid only 17 years old. He has and knows his own mind, and that mind is telling him to experiment musically until he finds the style that will be uniquely his as a mature artist.
Diane #138 from Nov. 13th: A little late from me, but thanks for the comment. We can look forward to many more wonderful things from the amazing talent that is David Archuleta.
Smanda #16 from the 13th also: Thanks for the link to that article. It was great to read about the source of David’s inspiration for “Falling.” And to think that he wrote such a deep song at the tender age of 14! It’s amazing. He’s got talent by the ton. It happens to be one of my favorite songs from his new works. I had wondered where in his experience did he find the emotional depth that the song contains. Now I know.
JR100 -- Single TMH- David even referred to the live performance potential on that ABC interview, something like, “It will be really fun to sing about it live.”
happy, i am shaking here just thinking about the spanish album (ronaldsf, rolling r’s anyone?) and an inspirational album, aka, Be Still my Soul, or a Xmas CD? (O Holy Night!!) wowzers………
jackryan, have to agree on all your assessments in #100. ok, I admit I’m a huge pop fan, and i am in LOVE with TMH, the beat, the beat, and I always loved the first part of the chorus in Barriers. My heart too is with You Can, so pretty. I honestly can’t think of any song that I don’t like. Someone referred to Running as a filler song, but I don’t see it that way. oh, and thanks for the links to those reviews. very nice words. where do you think dj is tonight? partying somewhere else? We’ll have to have ronaldsf speak to her about this, ProBono, OF COURSE. ronald, how about it?
just listened to the ABC interview..I can’t get over how different David’s speaking voice is versus his singing voice. His speaking tone is that of a 16-17 yr old, but his singing is that of an at least 20+ yr old! It’s mind-blowing to me.
Jr..i’ll be interesting to see which songs are chosen for the jingle concerts..& you can be sure that by the last concert, he will have perfected the delivery of each song, and there may be one song that he will blow us away with ( like Angels on the AI tour ). Then we will be waiting breathlessly (again) for his solo tour. And we’ll go through the same thing again, hoping he’ll perform this song or that song, this way or that way..hahaha!
chickee- she’s out either getting in trouble or making trouble and she’ll blame us when she gets back…
good morning rascal-
very effective!!
I agree, very effective!
A day or so ago a few posters talked about David’s interview with Ellen. Yesterday, David went on record as saying that Ellen has been his favorite interview and that he loves her (Counting David’s Character site, a site that I don’t visit, but apparently they met up with him yesterday when he was at home)
freofan- I read that posting on snarkies- that was a fun story- enjoyed it.
Good morning, Rascal and everyone else!
I concur with happy about the blog’s effectiveness.
Hey Jackryan! Thanks, as always, for your resourcefulness.
Our last conversation on Friday was about David on Ellen, I think, and yet, did you catch him on VH1? Soooo different! He was back to being shy and bashful. The host, Alison Becker, was also seated in an awkward positon away from David, so there wasn’t much interaction going on. She didn’t do much to put him at ease. And I guess that’s the key difference here. David is such a sensitive young man, he either takes a shine to you or he doesn’t. He definitely took a shine to Ellen, hence the more open, rambling David (versus shy David).
I like either David, so it’s all good.
I had my fifth dream about David Friday night . It’s amazing how I remember my David dreams. I was watching a music video featuring him and Anita Baker; they did a duet cover of Baker’s “Sweet Love,” and, needless to say, they were killing it! My mom and aunt were in the living room with me, and they all were like, “that boy can sang.”
Now, why Anita Baker? Who knows! I hadn’t seen or heard from her in forever, and had not recently heard her “Sweet Love” (an R&B ballad from 1986). But then, something uncanny happened Saturday. I was getting my hair braided at the home of my regular hairdresser, and while she was flipping the channel on her TV, she settled on this BET Jazz channel. Next thing you know, Anita Baker’s “Sweet Love” came on. It was just surreal to me since I dreamed about that song, with David accompanying her, the night before.
Now, who wants to try and interpret that? ha ha!
HG- hi, that’s craz-eh!
Did you see him Spike whats-his-name? David was sooo happy, the audience was nuts, his performance was flawless, and he definitely fed off of the audience energy. He asked them if they liked his album, they went nuts, and he ate it up!! So delighted. He is a people pleaser.
I had a hilarious, but brief, dream about David last night. I dreamt that I saw him on TV and he was wearing a feather boa! In the dream, I posted to this site that “David is wearing a feather boa!” haha
happy, I missed that one. Do you have a link?
Freo, see how when this blog shuts down for 24 hours, what tricks your mind will play on you? Maybe it was his cute little scarf he wore on Regis and Kelly! ha ha!
Good Morning Rascal!!! Yes, the shut down was a good way to raise awareness. Esp in the hinterlands.
Curious about the article that speaks of David writing Falling.
# 102 realmusiclover referes to a post by smanda but I cannot seem to find it. Anyone know where that is?
I love each and every song (I have all 17) and can’t stop listening.
Am tryin to not listen non-stop. I want the experience of learning all the sublte nuances of each song to last as lo0ng as possible.
The ABC interview was awesome. Very articulate David!!
HG- I’m back. I am the link to nothing! I leave that to you all. But here is my best attempt until JR comes on and gives you the real linkage:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=egk67IbSgwQ
just the song.
David was alive and so cute, Spike seemed to like him a lot. He said that the audience was “Ed Sullivan-Beatles-like”.
He made a funny Ernest Borgnine joke that David didn’t get because of his age, but I thought it was funny. David had fun.
Good morning all! I MISSED YOU, RASCAL! But I know it was for a good cause! Everyone should have at least one good cause. It’s too bad there are causes we HAVE to fight for, though..maybe someday we won’t have to.
I must say, though, that this is by far, the most interesting and “open” site dedicated to David. I know David doesn’t read blogs about him, but I hope someday he reads all of Rascal’s articles dedicated to him. I think
Davd would be very pleased.
HG, I agree about the interaction between David and VH1 whats-her-name, he seemed ill at ease with her. He was so different with Ellen and Spike. I think he’ll like Bonnie Hunt too.
About your dream..kinda strange. I couldn’t begin to tell you what it could mean. I never posted the “sobering” dream I had the other night. Here is a portion of it…
We, David & I were in a dressing room of a huge arena. I worked for him in some capacity. He was getting ready to go on stage for a sold out show. He was wearing a costume kinda like Elvis used to wear. He hated it. His dad kept knocking at the door saying, hurry up, it’s time. David kept looking at me. He didn’t want to go out there. He was about 30 years old but looked the same (?). He said “I never wanted this, I don’t want this anymore. You have to help me get away”. I didn’t say a word. In fact I didn’t talk at all, which is totally not me, just listened to him. He begged me to help him escape the madness, just for a while. “Get me out of here, please!” His dad kept banging on the door, we could hear the band start and the audience cheering wildly. David looked at me and said very softly, “this is your fault. I never wanted this, so now you have to fix it and help me”. I was crying and trying to say something but I couldn’t talk. I just nodded my head, took his hand and we walked out the back door and walked down a tree lined street (?). He started singing “Angels” softly and we walked away from the madness that was his Superstar life..He was happy.
Whew! that’s it.
Now this is one of the things I did yesterday. I made a video. It’s not a typical “happy” David video and I don’t know if people will like it. It’s my interpretation of his song “Falling”, the despair, then the hope.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G_uRxxfVx5Q
Sorry for the long post, rascal..but what did you expect?
Haha!
SF117- HI, I’ve missed you. The video is beautiful, as are you. Can I email you about your dream?
The link worked, so thank you, happy! This audience was definitely the most responsive, and I love David’s big ol’ smile at the end of his performance. Sigh.
He is probably one of the few young men who could wear plaid and make it look cool.
#116 happy. Wow, thanks for the link to that performance. He is getting so comfortable with this song. After seeing him perform at the Ford Day and then all since then, its like watching his progression during the tour. I just cannot imagine what he will be like in concert next year!
silverfox, that dream is just too sad to contemplate.
HG- What IS with the plaid? Did I miss the memo that plaid is back?
(no offense intended to the plaid lovers of the world, I just think I actually prefer the boa…)
OMGosh Rascal -- I nearly had a heart attack thinking your blog was attacked or something until I read the Defend page! I had withdrawals for 24 hours and kept on clicking if you have returned.
Then I had to step out and finish my Christmas shopping like Speedy Gonzales so I can come back here

testing
Wow, SF! Your video made me teary-eyed. Thank you for such dedicated work. Isn’t it astounding David did that song at the tender age of 14, and just channeling someone else’s experience?I think Rascal described this uncanny ability of David as someone who “in grace lies an awareness of suffering.”
Now, about your dream…sobering indeed! Wow! Are you have second thoughts about David achieving Elvis-like stardom? (And of course there is the whole SUIT thing -- look how your subconscious won’t let that go, SF! ha ha!).
I know I myself have had second thoughts, just because I think David would be content functioning below the radar, as long as he had enough access to reach out to his international fanbase. This doesn’t require having to be a superstar.
Sf… wow to your vid… The pics you chose were really touching, we’ve all been there at some point..and the end clips… I feel inspired to ” keep pushing through to the end”
Thanks so much… the song means a lot to me
happy, if plaid is back, then that’s solely due to David being a trendsetter -- ha ha!
Ok, more videos on the Spike show -- DA was so adorkable!

OK, not that I’m trying to get caught up in the David Archuleta vs. David Cook competition that our mainstream press is hoping to fan the flames on with Cook’s album releasing this week, but I did come across an interesting quote from the National Ledger:
Seventeen year old “Archie” says he’s giving the older David’s single “Light On” prominent play on his iPod -- while the Idol winner is so sure of the younger David’s success that he’s incorporating the “Crush” singer into his own career backup plan.
“I think David A. is destined for great things -- he has the talent to pull it off,” 25-year-old David C. tells In Touch. “If my record flops, maybe he’ll need a guitar player!”
Isn’t it interesting how our David is all about supporting Cook by playing his music (and promoting his album -- I remember him mentioning it in one of his interviews last week) while Cook is making snarky little jokes about how he might lose the “Battle of the Davids” this go round?
I know Cook’s making a joke, but the sentiment behind it (as well as the humility) rings false. 1.) I doubt Cook, who is hoping to be taken seriously in the rock world, despite his idol winner title, would want to be associated with David’s kind of music and 2.) contrary to David thinking there’s no competition between them, it’s quite obvious to me that Cook is still in competition mode.
But that’s just how I’m interpreting things. I could be wrong, but eversince SF pointed a few things out to me about Cook, I’m starting to see him in the same light. *Shrugs.*
happy..yes, please email me at

Thanks, caseydog!
SF: Your dream and words express a few of my lingering worries about David’s life in show business. I’ve been thinking for months about what he has stepped into and what it will all mean in his life. The more success he has, the harder it will be to get out (if he ever wants to). What’s seldom talked about is just how unglamorous and difficult a life in show biz really is. The big money is no consolation at all. Fame opens doors for celebrities, but it also creates many problems. He seems to have a lot of good people around him, and for that I am grateful. But things will get more and more complicated as he grows older, and I just hope that he will have the courage to do what his heart tells him to do.
Don’t forget to click the full-screen button when watching the Spike show. And you might also want to hit pause at the 17:24 mark for his amazing smile at the end of his perfomance. Lots to love in this David appearance.
Speaking of all the plaid David is wearing, I have to be honest, even though he looks good in anything,( proof is in the holey (?) t-shirt! ), who is his stylist? I prefer David the way he dressed on AI. He always looked hip and classy. He looked great on Leno! that’s the “look” I like. The plaid button downs are ok, but so ordinary and David is NOT ordinary. That’s JMO.
HG..about Cook..I still have my reservations about him, but David likes him. Only time will tell. And you know what, joke or not..David would most likely “help” Cook in any way if ever Cook needs his “help”.
I wonder if Cook has listened to “Desperate” and the bonus songs by David?…hmmmm?
I took Cook’s statement as just a teensy bit of worry. After the obvious problems with getting “Light On” to “Light On” I could see where that would be coming from. But his fans are pretty excited about a few other songs on the album, so I sincerely hope he does well. I think our David would be disappointed if he didn’t.
I’m trying really hard to let go of any interest in David Cook. His music style has never spoken to me, so the only thing about him that engages me is the connection with David through Idol. I’ve lost track of the other contestants who didn’t interest me and want to stop responding so strongly to him.
For me, it’s time to support David. I’m thrilled for his album and his success, and can’t wait to see what the future holds.
And, dang it, I wish my new avator would have shown up. Because it (David) is gor-gee-ous!
SF- I agree, the look on Leno was the “hot lavaa bomb” look (to quote Randy). I don’t like plaid and stripes for him- too distracting and they do nothing to call attention to one’s face, and I don’t think they photograph well. -Did my email come through?

“GREAT SHOW TONIGHT
A lot of you have been writing in and requesting more Idiot Paparazzi. Well tonight I make good on my promise. I loaded up an extra long Idiot Pap with a surprise cameo appearance by Danny Bonaduce. Yep.
Tonight’s show also features an appearance by none other than FABIO. Ask your mom about him, she’ll know. He’s hilarious and will be appearing in more episodes of the show.
But David Archuleta is the main guest. I swear it reminded me of the old tapes of Ed Sullivan when the Beatles were guests. He should of won Idol. There it is.
The girls in the audience shrieked so loud my ear’s itched. Top to bottom, might be the best show of the year so far, so enjoy.
One final note. Check out this blog next Friday for an important announcement regarding our show. That’s right, you guessed it, Rick Richards got the pregnant man pregnant again.
in the tub,
spike feresten”
One more comment on Cook..I buh-lieve he has no control over his career at the moment, and he won’t for a good while. That’s what being the “winner” of AI means. He sold his musical soul, so to speak, and now he has to live with it. That it could have been David instead, but wasn’t, even though David was clearly the best singer, is something we should really think about. David has an Angel on his shoulder. Just think, if David HAD won the vote, we may not have this wonderful album with all the great bonus songs. We may have had an album full of “bubble-gum pop” songs instead. When I see David now in all the interviews, I don’t think he would trade places with Cook now for anything. again JMO.
I wish Cook all the best luck with his album and I am sure he will do great…but I have to admit I still hope that David does better. Just to send a message to AI that they do not always have it right. They really missed out on the true special talent in the show by starting rumors and trying to make him come across as boring and only appealing to the tweens. As far as Cook, I have always agreed with others about him. I tried to be objective and I know David really loves him. In my heart though, I really do not think the love is all that mutual. I have tried to believe that it is…but lets face it…some of the things he has said in some interviews made me question his true character. David from day one has never changed his opinions or his personality and ALWAYS has made it known his feelings toward Cook. He came across to me at first as conceited and arrogant on the show, and then just to me, started sucking up to the public and playing the cool, nice, and humble role. Cook stated that early in the show all people could talk about was how great David was. He knew then he was going to have to change something if he had a chance to win the show. Cook is older and has been in the music business for a while, just not successful til AI. He knows how to play the game. He, and again only to me, comes across as trying to be modest, humble, and all of those things. I am not meaning to bash him, but this is the way I feel. I think he probably likes David…but I think David has a greater love and respect for Cook, than he does for him. I mean Cook susposedly there to help support his brother who was trying out and was initially not there to audition he said…and they made him tryout? I don’t believe that. You cannot be made to try out for one of the biggest shows on tv if you do not want to!! There are thousands waiting in line and I don’t think they are going to spend time trying to convince someone who they don’t even know to audition. If Cook wanted to tryout, then I think he was in it to get exposure and to get the contract that comes with winning the show. If AI was not wanting him to win…then why did they do so many things to help him win…such as changing his entire looks…from the hair to his clothes and his attitude changed. He knew he could not compare with David’s GENUINE good looks, talent, and humble personality. He stepped up his game people…and why…TO WIN!
happy, I am soooo sorry! I gave you the wrong email address ( I have 4 ) . the one you should use is..
deeimagines@aol.com
That should work! My BAD!!
Thanks for the links to Spike, caseydog and jackryan4DA! I posted them up on IDF.
SF -- your video is amazing. My, my, my! You & HG are really getting the knack for this thing! The things we do for David, right?
Ok, here is ending segment of the Spike Show:
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=5ZZ4DGAA
The complete VH1 appearance (from interview to intro of Crush)
http://www.sendspace.com/file/fvha6x
HG You said it right that David changes like a chameleon, depending on who he is with. He was upbeat in TRL & Ellen but when shy guy at VH1. Probably because he knows already that he will be introducing his video
But somehow, I also got this feeling that he was uber self-conscious with the VH1 host? Anyone else sensed that?
In any case, can someone explain this to me — why is it that when men go shy, they are way more desirable? Whew! Is it just me?
SF -117 What a beautiful video, I had tears!
JR -- 122/127/138 THANK YOU from Canada… many times the youtubes are “unavailable” to us.
I wonder if David was shy during the VH1 interview because the woman pressed him to talk about girls and getting a girlfriend? I’ve noticed that he’s much more open and comfortable generally in interviews when that isn’t brought up.
JR- there you go asking questions again………
SF- I really loved your video.Thanks!
Jackryan4Da -- It beats me…why are they more desirible?? HMMMM…..maybe because we are tired of men who think they are all cool ladies men and are conceited LOL? My husband has some of the qualities like David does…need I say more. We have been married for 17 yrs!! He was always smiling, laughing, respectful to others, and had a shyness about him that other guys didn’t have. I had to ask him out because he never asked out a woman in his life. He dated many girls, but they always asked him out first. There is something to the sweet unassuming shyness thing LOL!!
IMO, Cook might have a few nice traits, but he definitely doesn’t live in the House of Humility. He’s very smooth.
Cook would be a fool to alienate David, and I think he probably knows it.
awestruck ur welcome! I know what you mean -- that’s the same case for many international fans that’s why I endeavor to download what I can find and upload the same for greater accessibility. Archies & Arch Angels are great in sharing stuff for the simple reason that no one should be denied access to the wonder of The Archuleta!
InspiredbyDavid You wrote: I mean Cook supposedly there to help support his brother who was trying out and was initially not there to audition he said…and they made him tryout? I don’t believe that. …. thousands waiting in line and I don’t think they are going to spend time trying to convince someone who they don’t even know to audition.”
I offer this supposition which I had been nursing since S7 days: Are we sure they don’t know DC? According to DC himself, this wasn’t his brother’s 1st time to audition. And DC isn’t exactly a neophyte with 2 CDs already out there & a regular gig in Tulsa. AI is known to do background checks on selected auditioners/semi-finalists. How hard would have it been for AI to check out the 2 Cooks & see that the older Cook has way more potential than the younger one? Especially if AI is out to rectify the Daughtry booboo?
Hmmm….Jackryan4Da-Good observation..I didn’t know his brother had tried out previously…you make a great point. I am sure they do some backgorund investigating on the constestants. Maybe that is why Simon bashed him a little at first to make people think he didn’t like him and to catch the viewers off guard, and then later, pimp him up for the win. Simon is a smart man…wouldn’t be where he is if he wasn’t.
Rascal! {{{hug}}}
Inspired #140 It’s good to have a place to air your observations and concerns, so, glad you were able to do so. Personally I don’t see any benefit to we fans or to David by speculating or casting doubt about Cook’s motives or sincerity. I would only add that, as David says, everything happens for a reason. Peace. {{hug}}
SF SF, your video moved me so. “Falling” has a powerful effect on me. Words can’t touch what it does to me or how I feel about it. And wow, that dream! I’ll be pondering that one, and yours, too HG!
Oh, and HG I have been enjoying your playlist! (But at this par-tic-ular moment I’m doing mah archu_bliss_ninny thang over “Works For Me”! And… it’s apparently David’s fave track on the album! :::shakin’ lil bootie!:::::)
beebee I was only getting some thoughts out I had for a while…needing to vent a bit. Sorry if I offended or bothered you in any way.
also, I think he was better off not winning and I do believe things happen for a reason
nope, inspired , not offended one bit. Just tossing in my two cents. {{hug}}
Joymus, stories like yours make me give thanks for David, and his fans every day. How life affirming is that?
Freak banner waving Rascal, that’s much better, freaks rock! (BTW, thanks for the way you use your power, sometimes silence is golden)
HG, David chanelling Anita…… one night last summer (2007) I was driving home from Coney Island with my family, and guess who I hear, live voice so close I could taste it, Miss Baker (doing a free concert @ Seaside near the NY Aquarium)….. I wanted to double back and listen, but I think others had the same idea, the traffic was a beast…..David and Anita would be an interesting pairing.
SF, your video shows just how in touch with his feelings our young David is. It grabbed my heart.
Inspired, I concur with much of what you said…..
I
beebee (((hugs))) right back at you
Regarding the flannel -- a young poster at MJ’s had this to say…
You guys are entitled to your own opinions but EVERYTHING David has been wearing is very “IN”! If you look through any magazines right now… cardigans are the things for guys. Justin Timberlake and the Jonas Brothers have been seen in cardigans lately. And flannels and plaids are ALL over the stores right now! His stylist is actually right on with everything he has been in. He has looked the BEST yet this past week!
Also -- check out this new club remix of Crush. I like it a lot.

RE: THE PLAID LOOK -- I was watching Entertainment News the other day (cos our David was one of the top 10 news) and their Fashion Segment of course took up the Hottest Winter Look — YUP it is plaid and pastel or a combination of the 2! So whoever is dressing David now is just following the trend.
I am sssssooooooooooo loving the Spike Show last night. David was so happy and chatty…best performance to date on Crush. He Keeps getting better and better…oh my…sighhhhh….note to self…take deep breaths and relax lol!!! Now its time for some hunkering down…David…woo hoo!!
juliebug..that remix is really very good! thanks for the link!
And I guess I’m not hip to what’s hip in hip clothes for teens world..sorry, BUT I do love the slacks David is wearing in the photo above, or maybe not the slacks themselves, but the way..never mind, I like the slacks…
uh-oh!
I think David’s stylist is doing a bang up job! Honestly, I commented to my husband today on how great David has looked on the whole album promo. They’ve been switching it up with every appearance which means tons of photos and vids with him in different outfits. Well done.
It would be interesting to find out what styles David likes the best.
ok gone to download the album again on itunes….opps did I say that outloud?? Ummm…I’m too obsessed with this guy!! Don’t ya think?
SF -- ahahaha! Ummmm….yeah…..
Dang it!! itunes will not let me buy another copy of the album…it says it is being modified…what? Guess I will have to try amazon.
David was the last performer at TRL -- isn’t it that uncanny?

HAPPY on #146 -- and there YOU go again, taking the safe route -- not ‘splaining things to me
Still hiding behind your not-so-sure legal counsel which we will hide under the alias ronaldsf?
So much catching up when you step out for the afternoon!
beebee, doesn’t that playlist rock? So glad you like it!
Also, just to take off some of the heat you gave Inspired (just a little, I think) I only brought up the Cook thing because I was just struck by how different their perspectives were when they were asked to comment on each other. David was all about being supportive, while Cook jokingly expressed anxiety that David would have a more successful career. If he had said something about how he was playing David’s tracks on his i-pod (and you know, maybe offered a comment on “Desperate” or something), I wouldn’t have even bothered to comment here.
I actually feel bad for Cook, like SF said, because the pressure is really on him to be the more successful musician. For his own sake, because I know what ol’ dirty bastards those 19E/RCA/AI can be, I actually hope his records sell more (sorry Inspired!), just so they (both Cook and the rest of the gang) can leave David alone to do his thing and also lay off on the pressure Cookie must be feeling right now.
Brooklyndawn, how cool to hear Anita live (even if by accident!). I never would have paired her up with David (but obviously my dreams express something different). They did sound awesome together, and what was funny was David was learning how to do all kinds of new runs and vocal jazz improvisations and everything. Way impressive.
Anyway, I’m loving the plaid (especially that shirt he wore on TRL -- *thud*). His bashful smile was oh so lovely on VH1, so I completely agree with you, Jackryan and Inspired, that shy guys are hot!
Joner! Your avatar takes on new meaning now that “Your Eyes Don’t Lie” is out, LOL!
** whistles as he walks away from computer **
the clothes?? the plaid? the flannel?
Shoulder pads were IN, jeans tucked into socks with tennis shoes was IN, flock of seagulls hair and mullets were IN …… need I go on….?
Listen kids, stay away from the plaid and flannel! Yes, it might be IN, but that does not mean it looks good.
David should stick with what he looks good in. Let’s face it sometimes he looks drop dead, thud, pass the paddles gorgeous, and other times he looks “IN.” It’s fine if “IN” is the best you can look, but David should pick drop dead, thud, pass the paddles gorgeous just because he CAN.
JR- I’ll ‘splain the rest later when my attorney is present….
SF160- DO NOT TALK ABOUT PANTS!
(at least, not without me……. and my attorney)
CASEYDOG -- Actually, I have been asking JONER how much she was paid for her “stint” with YEDL. To-date, she has been mum about it
happy..all I said was David looks good in Dress pants, , plaid or not, (I’m thinking of the Icarly photo and the one here…up there ^ . That’s all…really!!
Oh, dear, don’t even get me started about David in church slacks….
hi everybody~~
Happy ~ on FIRE I see !!! in more ways than one!.Hmmm

and..Rascal…hmmm ..WOWZA freakin WOWZA…..#34 from above..ROFLMAO……
….love you guys….
uh-oh!! what have I started…oh yeah, the CHURCH pants..that looked like leather..hahaha!
First I want to say that I will buy Cook’s cd (and Jason Castro’s too) and that I do think that Cook actually likes and feels brotherly toward David. However, I have always felt that he has undermined David’s credibility with a condescending attitude toward him as shown by the types of “positive comments” that he makes. Perhaps it is just teasing. However, he always portrays David as young at the expense of David’s mature, well-developed musical self. Even fun things like the hand-stand competition which was instigated by Cook to tease David who then caught Cook offguard when Dvid did it better than Cook. (David may not have had time for organized sports, but any kid who plays street hockey and runs cross-country will surprise you). Anyway, I think it has gotten better because Cook knows that David was plugging Cook’s CD on every talk show and interview and let me tell you, the interviewers noticed -- even Cooks biggest fan, Ellen. Even at the end of Idol when David made a very gracious comment about Cook, Cook then said something like “now what am I going to say” (that compares to David’s thoughtful words). Anyway, I think that if Cook’s CD sells more or does well and that they both get to make more cds, things will get better in the comparisons.
SF- can we go down the leather path on a Sunday….?
why was it called church pants again?
happy /168 bring on the paddles !!! TRL outfit ..plaid shirt~sleeves pushed up.. ,tie, `and those low rider jeans HOT HOT HOT…..where is our attorney when we need him ???? rsf rsf …
beebee#151 I really appreciate “Works For Me”. I believe it is Davids “F-you” to AI! Ha! Ha! (surely, he’d never say that?!)
djb178- why are you talking about pants again before PBA-ronaldsf arrives? What is wrong with you people? have you no sense? have you no discipline? and don’t ever use the phrase “low rider jeans” again!!! what were you thinking?
I think I will astutely avoid the “Church Slacks” conversation on this fine Sunday evening.
Collegemom, thanks for reminding me about the handstand competition. See? Even there, Cook is in competition mode (and, of course, underestimating that David will, once again, outperform him -- ha ha!).
archangel48, you wrote: “I really appreciate “Works For Me”. I believe it is Davids “F-you” to AI! Ha! Ha! (surely, he’d never say that?!)”
I think so too! And “works for me” is the closest he’ll ever tell you to “F-off!” Isn’t he awesome? Sigh.
happy~~~discipline is sooo yesterday,,,,,david is soooo today….and besides `”the appeals” will keep us out until well after the SOLO tour ..so there….right rsf?
low riders low riders low riders……….
Attending an Alanis Morrisette concert, then wearing a plaid hoser shirt on Spike … it’s no wonder Canucks love you, David!
dj182- ROFL……..help!
OK folks..(rascal where the heck are you?),,
JR..when David sang “When You Believe” he wore slacks that looked like leather on TV, When he was asked about it, David said they weren’t LEATHER like is was a curse word or something, and said they were “church” pants! hahaha! And buh-lieve me, he didn’t look like he was going to church in them thar church pants either! hahaha.
happy..Not LEATHER….”church” pants.
archangel..don’t you just LOVE “Works For Me”. I smile when I listen and wonder who he’s really singing it to. The lyrics are so telling. I’m just waiting til he starts writing songs about HIS life, before, during and after AI. And of course, his personal life..That will be the only way we will ever get a glimpse of what he’s really going through. This song tells me he’s more in control even than his dad. If it works for him, that’s it, done. JMO. And I for one LOVE thinking of David that way..He knows what he wants and goes about it in a polite, non agressive way, then he writes a song about how he REALLY feels about it! hahaha!
happy /180 — and by the way there is nothing wrong with ANY of my senses..some are just more tweaked than others …hmmmm…whose fault is that now ???
lala..lala..low riders low riders….thank you stylist ..lala
happy~ seriously--you have me out of control..i am just ROFL and oh my..I just snorted!!! ..no fair..that hurt….
SF and dj-
You say church slacks and I say leather,
You say low riders and I say thud;
church slacks, leather, low riders, thud,
Let’s take, er… call… the whole thing off! (Please, before I hyperventilate…)
its either that or be sure to pack plenty of files and hair pins……..
happy~fine.. but ..Let the record..er..posts show..rsf..I did not start this!! …final statements~~~short and SWEET….black leather jacket and ohh low rider jeans…
OK so now do you want to talk about..???
happy /SF ..I hear david wears a size 9 shoe………….
dj-- OMG- YOU DID NOT JUST SAY THAT!!!!!!
Your honor, the defendant dj, pleads not gulity by reason of temporary INSANITY………….(brought on by leather low riders…..)
What??? I just changed the subject for YOU..for crying out loud…you said you did not want to hyperventilate….They are auctioning off a david signed sneaker!!! size 9..cutest thing ever..!!!!!..what were you thinkin ..um cra-zeh lady ???
Oh my heck..you made me snort ..once again !!….leather low riders???..WTF er HECK????
ET PHONE HOME …NOW!!!!
where is my PBO attny when I need him???
David studies every nuance of his music. A perfectionist for his fans. This makes his quiet confidance even more exciting to see! Songs like “Works for Me”, are surely a beginning of what he has in store for us. I am LOVIN’ this ride!
dj- did you ever notice that the nice people on this blog stay away from posting when you go INSANE….they don’t want to get hauled away for guilt by association
even HG and SF left…….
thankyou Archangel48- yes “nuance of his music. A perfectionist…” that’s what I’m talkin’ about- sensible people with sensible discussions…..
(did archangel48 use the word ride?)
let the record show AGAIN…I just came in on this convo already in progress…talk about guilt by association….hmmmm…
..It s kind of like serving umm ..brownies and leaving….
I have a question though..Has anyone heard the whispering in the beginning of Running..??..It is in the very beginning..after music starts but before david starts singing..really..go listen..what is being said ??
happy~ good detective work/ {archangel48 -used that word }}….
Check out the whispering ..Running….for real…I need to know ….
dj- “mafia?”
actually when my new avi shows up you’ll see I really care. I baked them specially for you. They have hair pins and things you will need when they put you away….I’ll come to see you weekly….if I’m not going to see David in concert that is…….
I can tell you what the whispering in Running is: The song was written by Midi Mafia, and at the beginning of every one of their songs, someone whispers “Mafia.” You will hear it in David’s Running ong, too.
{{{peeking in}}}
Oh my!
{{{scurrying away until the meds settle in}}}
freo- please get us back on track….
juliebug— COME BACK!!
dj- see you scare everyone away…….
ok happy ..not like I am feeling like Iv’e been thrown under your bus or anything!!
Freofan~~Thank You!! I thought I was hearing things!..I have been taking Nyquil and ODDing thru earbuds..so you never know….
happy/203 ~did you hear that…Mafia !!… haha
juliebug…..come back,,,…happy is serving a new batch of brownies….she is a trouble maker ya know…
dj- thrown under the bus?? I would never throw you under the bus. I am trying to save you from a train wreck littered with footwear…….that’s what friends are for….. now freo, and HG, JR, and SF, TOfan, and juliebug- they abandoned you… and rascal, where the heck is rascal?
Guys, listen to the interview of CDC with Mietra in my post at #122 -- it’ll will give a new context to “Works For Me”
So church pants is like the antonym of leather pants eh? David, David, David…. the things you make us imagine… or force not to imagine… that leather-church pants issue put one whole loooooooooooooong thread in IDF to flames, literally!
DJ & Happy you guys are in trouble and you don’t even realize it? FYI your legal counsel has turned down your plea for representation. So any further talk about leather, church, thud, shoe sizes, arms, thighs and the likes will only put you in a deeper hole that you are already in. Let this be a friendly warning from your Neighborhood Guardian Angel, ok?
DJRe the whisper at the start of Running -- I hear the same thing HAPPY -- “Mafia”
JR- you care!!!!!!!
dj- I can’t get my dang avi to change back to some very nice baked goods and this dang smokin’ hot fire is making me crazeh…..going to listen to Angels to calm me down….
DJ -- I didn’t abandon you. I was away making breakfast for my kids and preparing to go to work — remember am 15 hours ahead of you guys so it is Monday in my part of the globe.
Me thinks HAPPY is playing divide and conquer cos she knows you are both in trouble for being naughty angels. See you have even added low riders now in the list! Oh boy….
OK ..JR4DA.. for the record ~I have never ever brought up ..umm…thighs… and I am bidding on that sneaker because I think it the cutest thing ever…David’s sneaker ~for a good cause…what were you thinking ???
Thanks all for the”mafia” tidbit..is this the only song that has that?
Happy~/210~ I do believe rascal has gone off to church since he has broken the rules~~see # 34….
Oh, dear, I mentioned “church slacks” and the whole list has since gone to h***. We better call the attorney, folks!
muffins anyone??????
Frefan~ah ha! so it is YOUR fault…OK ..I am good with that ..hear that ‘happy’….I was commenting on how in style our guy has been these days and you all went bad on me…..no more brownies for any of you.!!!
dj- I told you I didn’t start it. Freo admits it. Don’t feel bad though, accusing me and all, while I stood by you…..
(can you believe JR, thinking we would talk about thighs in public?)
or the happy muffins either !!!
I just spent a few moments catching up with this thread and just had to copy and paste this gem from Rascal:
“David cares very little what others think of him. He cares far more about finding the good to think about in others.”
Rascal. Thank you. Although we all know this is true, you found a way to say it so eloquently. My ODD has been intense this weekend. This morning after I made a second comment about David to my husband within an hour, I walked away and heard him let out a deep sigh.
ODD is tough when you are a part of a couple. I envy those of you with partners who are also fans. My husband likes David but doesn’t ODD. He has to be patient. My youngest daughter ODDs privately, as any 13 year old will. So I have to try to contain my love for David, or bring it here. Thank for you being here, everyone. And thank you, Rascal, for providing the place.
Are muffins better for you than brownies? If so…in the spirit of being good…I’ll have a muffin!
archangel48- LOL
Am re-watching the Spike interview and am cracking up with the random things David said:
“I have a box where I don’t sign.”
“Well I actually spend money on food but that’s because I really like food.”
To top it all Spike comes up with a gem:
“David, I don’t want to corrupt you… but what about those bit%^&#@ motorcycle?!”
)
bwahahahahahahahaha!
the muffins & brownies are actually burning from HAPPY’s avi! any oatmeal-raisin cookies?
JR- Spike genuinely seemed to get a kick out of David- he cracked up at the “but that’s because I really like food.” He wasn’t patronizing him, he was enjoying him. Even though he asked a lot of the ordinary questions he had a friendly vibe that David was comfortable with and Spike was funny!
JR- clear your cache.
beebee- how’s that b in “unpredictable” in works for me…..?
Kait -- Here’s another hubby…He knows what’s what… lol!

Hi ladies, Have we settled down yet?
JR..glad you’re still here..I just listened to THE ALBUM again, and again THE VOICE just blows me away, especially on the bonus tracks. I know David co-wrote ALTNOY, Works For Me, and wrote Falling, Which other songs did he have a hand in? I know you posted this info before, but can you tell me again? Or can anyone tell me?
Re: spike. I love the spike performance, it’s the best “Crush” performance so far, and I love seeing the big smile of David after he performed.
Re: cook. I brought up here, not to bash DC, but would like to say even I love David, I am not necessarily love DC also. I entitled my opinion, even it’s contradicted to David, I am not feeling guilty… :p. The point here is, I am not David, I don’t know what actually he is thinking (which to me, his feeling to DC also is very diplomatic/blurred, not clear as he is to Jason, and I love Jason also), and I’ll keep my opinion of DC until there are something proving I was wrong.
Re: fanblast. Just read from fanblast, they are closing the site. I am not surprised at all. No matter what has happened, it’s very special for me. I keep going there even I knew the whole story, I am not saying I agreed what the mod did, just… donno what to say, forget it.
SF- you’re back!! We are very composed and proper now. I can’t keep the songs straight, and have no idea who wrote which. I do know he co-wrote Works for Me though.
juliebug- now there’s a man who know the deal!!! what a guy!
juliebug..the dance video..Can you imagine what David could do with that song in concert?? And… Let Me Go, and YEDL, and Barriers, and Works For ME?? The kids at the Jingle concerts would go go CRA-ZEH!!!
silverfox -- I think this is correct. If not, somebody let me know.
David wrote words and music for Falling.
He co-wrote:
Waiting for Yesterday
Somebody out there
Let me go
ALTNOY
Don’t let go
Works for me
SF232- I was thinking the same thing when I saw the little dance party.
You know I am a life long fan of the greatest live rock performer ever! Too many shows to count- large and small venues. Seriously, his 4 1/2 hour mega concerts were(remain?) nothing short of spiritual- really. In a crazy way, being connected to 20,000 other people (or 250 sometimes), united in affection and an intimate knowledge of every nuance of the performer and his music is more than powerful- it is indescribable. Countless songs evolved over time with hand and body motions that all 20,000 perform in unison- lines, pauses etc- no random screaming, no distractions- just a spiritual revival of the musical sort. I really believe David can achieve the same intensity with his audience because of the way he loves his audience and the way we love him- its all in the deep connection. I can’t wait!
Thanks Liz, so basically, David had a hand in 6 of the better songs ( IMO ) on the album?? Not to mention he wrote one of the most beautiful songs I’ve ever heard?
You know, I really love CRUSH, and I love TMH, the second single, but those songs you listed, IMO are superior to those two, ..I just don’t get it…oh well.
did I just say David could one day compare with the greatest live rock performer ever? oh my heck, I HAVE gone over the edge……must have been the low ri…..never mind…
DavidfanLiz -- I don’t think he had anything, writing-wise, to do with Waiting for Yesterday or Let Me Go.
He had 4 co-writes (2 on the original album and 2 of the bonuses) and 1 all his -- Falling.
juliebug, thank you for the fan vids. So much fun and so much joy!
davidfanLIZ, you are right about the songs as far as I know. Isn’t it just so amazing David is so talented? On second thought, it is not surprising but I’m still awed.
SF, I commented on your video on YouTube. I am very touched by it. It is also wonderful that those who have not heard some of the bonus tracks can be exposed to David’s talent even more.
happy 234, what you said about the concert experience gives me chills. “… being connected to 20,000 other people (or 250 sometimes), united in affection and an intimate knowledge of every nuance of the performer and his music is more than powerful- it is indescribable.” That’s when you feel how great it is to be human, feeling love as one body. I can’t say it well, but I am looking forward to one day when us fans will experience such powerful connection with David and one another.
What really struck me watching the audience at the TRL performance is that not only were the fans singing along but that they all looked SO happy, bursting with joy watching David perform. And last night on Feresten’s, fans were just jumping up and down and David looked so happy seeing everyone. I was just non-stop all smiles. It’s been so blissful being able to seeing on so many shows.
Gotta say g’nite all now..tomorrow’s the start of another work week…Glad David got to go home even if it was for just a day or two..stiil have sign off with…
Dear Lord, We are unworthy to ask, but we are asking anyway, please…
Take Care Of Our Earth Angel, David. Watch over him, Protect him from all harm. Cloak him with your love and give him the strength to endure all that’s thrown in his path. Give him the courage and guidance to SAY NO to those who ask for more than he can reasonably give. Surround him with loving and supportive people who love him as we, his ARCHANGELS do. Separate him from those who have agendas other than for his well being. Give him rest when he’s weary and fatigued.
Give him the stamina to sustain his hectic pace. Give him assurance when he feels doubt. Give him joy when he feels sad. Cloak him always in your protective arms. Keep him healthy and strong so he can continue fulfilling the Destiny which was written in his Book of Life before he was born.
This we, though unworthy, humbly pray. Amen.
Sweet dreams David, be safe & secure in our love always! CONTIGO SIEMPRE CON AMOR! Take care.
We love you madly!
Oh, David didn’t co-write Waiting for Yesterday or Let Me Go, Juliebug? I guess I got confused like someone else because of all the similar words in the various tracks.
SF! I really love your prayer. Didn’t get a chance to say that before. G’nite! Sweet dreams.
SF- good night.
vermeer 238-- “That’s when you feel how great it is to be human, feeling love as one body…”
the power of music…..
What a wonderful article, and thanks to Nat for sharing this touching story.
Rascal, thanks for the link to another wonderful site i.e. “Imagine Peace”. It is gratifying to read that people in authority are planning “to re-establish America as the country with the moral & political authority to lead the world towards a solution”. As an Asian, it is encouraing news at this time of negative sentiments here .
And the Wish to David is so heartfelt! Thanks for sharing. The simplicity is stunning and from the deepest of the heart.
jackryan4DA #11, (I still don;t know why I am unable to post a message I have tried posting for 3rd time now in the last thread!). I have the same experience too, so I stopped trying for a couple of days, now I hope this post works.
happy ~ are those blueberry?? my fav….
diana244, JR11- I have the same problem posting sometimes, then all of a sudden it works.

djb- good night, sweet dreams….
Happy and djb, looks like I missed a deep and thoughtful discussion about … fashion.
Happy, “being connected to 20,000 other people (or 250 sometimes), united in affection and an intimate knowledge of every nuance of the performer and his music is more than powerful- it is indescribable” … solo tour, ah yes, can’t you just Imagine???
Tofan~~your avi is so happy..I know I have said that before but it just makes me feel all warm and fuzzy happy for our guy…..that face..that smile…I am pinching cheeks right now !! …need to solo tour together..strength in numbers..right??
djb- solo tour together? count me in!
TOFan249- fashion- don’t even think about it…….
solo tour,…. (sigh)
djb, there’ll be numbers all right. Am I selfish for thinking “not too many too soon”? Guess we’ll all have to learn to share…. ‘Night all!
g’nite TOfan … I don’t want to share just yet…but I know we have to …
happy /251…could not think of better tour mates….makes me all weepy and stuff..cold meds must be kicking in……time for my lullaby and zzzzzzzz
Tofan/dj- no worries, its all good, its all good…..
heading out soon djb, but not putting up my sign-off ’til I’m really ready….
we’ll take care of you dj…….you needs takin’ care of…….
oh look I posted at 11:11 !!!! those are special #’s ya know!!!!
#13, Joymus, what a remarkable story. Yes, David does have a VOICE that really impress and register. My 5-year old grand daughter asked “who is this singer” when I played David’s CD during her visit last weekend; she did not do that on other singers.
Freofan #17, I for one did not expect David’s first CD to be launched in the stores here in Sigapore so quickly, that was why I pre-ordered from Amazon.com only to be disappointed that my pre-ordered copies would reached me a month after the official released date. Anyway, I bought more copies and gifted 5 so far, and always with the message “If you don’t enjoy this CD, don’t just chuck it, return it to me or pass it on to somebody who appreciate it, and keep on forwarding it until it finds a home that loves it” .
So far, four have indicated, after listening to it, that they love it and would want to keep it. One even message me “How did you find this fellow, did you say he is only 17?” and I replied “Don’t called him this fellow, he is David James Archuleta, singer artist extraordinaire” And to the others I said “Buy his next Album yourself, don’t wait for me to gift you” Haha, I bet they would be so hooked they would do just that!
The one have yet to feedback is out of town at the moment.
djb258- LOL, luv you…..
just finished my last bit of computer work for the night, so….
Good night all. Thanks for the fun.
thanks happy. ..as long as there is no white coat with those “special sleeves” involved..or hand cuffs haha..then I feel safe…and loved….
g’nite all
~~~sweet dreams~~~
LOL, Rascal #37, you are freakingly obsessed and intoxicated, but justifiably so. I too am; I even admited it to my 5-year old granddaughter when I showed her David’s poster in my wardrobe and she said “You not shy, nai-nai (paternal grandma in Mandarin)”.
Have to go do somework, so many comments to read, just can’t keep up.
Sheesh, I think I missed a whole party..
Happy did you ask about the b in the Works for Me “unpredictabulll“? Oh definitely one of his BEST, don’t you think? lol.
*Ahem* I have very important announcement to make:
The correct term is not “church pants”.
The correct term is “Church Slacks”
(see 1:20)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=seDD0YG0M70
(there, I feel better.. lol… some things are IMPORTANT…:p)
Good morning all! Sorry I missed the latter end of last night’s party.
BTW, Juliebug, thanks for the link to that awesome Crush remix. That’s definitely the best remix version out there! I should make sure it gets played at a Christmas party I’m helping to plan.
Actually, has anyone heard any of these remixes on the radio yet? This version should definitely get airplay.
Good morning HG -- loved that remix as well. And generally I don’t care for them.
Back to the Anita Baker comment. I have always loved her. I saw her in Detroit at the Fox maybe 10 years ago. About 8 rows back. She walked out singing *Sweet Love* and was incredible the entire time. Best concert ever.
What a duet that would be!
morning everyone..just wanted to remind you all, we still have to keep voting for David & CRUSH on VH1..Let’s
help David break a record!!
VOTE, VOTE, VOTE on VH1!!
I saw David’s new blog. He talks about the concerts he has attended recently, but I think the real reason for this blog was to once again show support for Cook.
here’s David’s blog:
I’m a concert -- goer!
Hey guys! The last week has been a pretty crazy one! I did a bunch of appearances on some shows, and I’ll be on the Bonnie Hunt Show Tuesday haha. I hope everyone’s liking the album! And thanks for sending in your opinions on what songs you like the most! I love hearing about what you guys think, and really appreciate the great comments you’ve all been making.
I just wanted to tell you really quick about my weekend. On Friday night I was supposed to go home, but we missed our flight. So instead… we went to the Alanis Morissette concert, which was amazing! I forgot how much I loved Alanis and how big of a fan I am. There was a point in time where I was addicted to quite a few of her songs, and I still love her. She is great live, and she gets into it in a really unique way. If you haven’t heard her before you should listen to Uninvited. It’s one of my favorite songs. Another interesting fact about Uninvited that I learned is that the producer who produced the song, Rob Cavallo, produced David Cook’s album. Cool, huh? Another good song of hers is Thank You.
On Saturday, we were able to go back home for a day. I got to spend time with the family again, and what’s cool is there just so happened to be an awesome concert that I didn’t know about going on that day. It was Lady Gaga, Natasha Bedingfield, and New Kids on the Block. I didn’t get to see a whole lot of Lady Gaga since I thought the concert started at 8, but that’s when Natasha’s set started haha. But I finally got to see Natasha perform live!! Of course I was loving it lol. She did amazing, and I was really happy that I got to see her in concert in Utah. I never thought I’d get the chance to, especially at the beginning when she wasn’t really known in the US yet. I really admire the way she’s gone with her music and career, and how sweet of a person she is! She is just down to earth and stays true to herself — whether it’s in person, in her music, or on stage. New Kids on the Block were also amazing too! I couldn’t believe how great of a concert they could still put on, and for a comeback tour. It was full of energy the whole way through! My family went too, so it was great to be able to all spend time together at a concert. A couple of my friends were also able to go, and they said it was the best concert they’ve been to. I can’t believe how many concerts I’ve been able to go to lately! I seriously have gone to more in the last little while than in my life. You learn so much by watching the way people put on a show, and how they perform live. I’ve been having such a great time. I was never really into concerts before, but I guess now that I’m older I appreciate it a lot more. Just being able to watch experienced people live is one of the greatest things ever. Especially seeing artists who have inspired me so much. Jason Mraz, Alanis Morissette, and Natasha Bedingfield have all been major influences for me, and being able to see all of them in concert is just incredible. So I’m definitely a concert-goer now haha. Seriously everyone, if you haven’t been to a concert yet you should! Especially if you’re a singer, you learn A TON from watching the way someone performs. And everyone does it their own way too. Ah, I just love it! But I’ve rambled a lot more than I wanted to haha. I should probably get going. We’re back in LA, and I got to see Brooke and Ramiele! It’s always good to spend time with those guys. Well I’m gonna run, but before I go I just want to remind everyone that Cook’s album is coming out tomorrow! So don’t forget to show your support, and be prepared to listen to some awesome stuff! haha. Ciao.
Song for the day: Put Your Arms Around Me -- Natasha Bedingfield
David still showing support fo Cook, that will never change…That’s just the David we love & admire!
Where is everyone??
Reminder…vote for Crush on VH1!!
Where is everyone??
Sorry, SF, I’m very much behind at work and catching up for the week. Just have time for a quick break to see what’s new, and lo and behold: a new David blog!
If I could come up with one word to describe him, it would be LOVE.
David = love.
That blog is full of so much of it! Thanks for posting!
Betsy, wouldn’t that be something -- to have Anita and David on a duet together? He and Natasha would be cool too, of course.
OK, back to work.
Until next time!
HG, David=LOVE…I’m feelin’ ya! Today I feel like “gushing”. It’s snowing like, big beautiful flakes! Really quite gorgeous. Just like David’s VOICE! (yeah, Him too, I just should wait till Dec 28 to say so)! There has never been an album that I seriously liked every song. This is it. In my ear as I am typing, Touch My Hands. I can understand why this one was picked for the next single. I remember Rascal picked this one early on as a favorite. It is radio friendly, easier to do live than Crush, and I love dancing around the house to it! I’ve been doing that since the little snippet came out! I can’t claim that I know a thing about music. I only know what I like to hear. I believe David to be brilliant when knowing what he wants. I love how he puts us on his Thank-you’s on the CD. The heart connection is heard in his VOICE. I LOVE this little guy…..{{{{{{{{David HUGS for all}}}}}}}}!!!
Also,, there is a ratethemusic survey on ALTNOY. Pls give your input. Perhaps they are considering switching the next single from TMH to ALTNOY? Be honest with your rating and comments. I put.. like it alot…and love the vocals, the arrangement, the beat and would love for it to be the next single.
evey.. I agree..ALTNOY is a better choice for the next single..Even Barriers or YEDL would be, only because they show David to be so versatile and different from his AI days. Course, I love every song on THE ALBUM!! Listen to the songs almost constantly!
Thanks for the stats and info, Evey. If Jive is considering making the second single a song that David co-wrote, that is HUGE. A big vote of confidence in his abilities as a songwriter. I feel for Jive — there are so many potential hits on this CD, it’s a tough call.
silverfoxe -- me too! I just love Barriers and YEDL. I was listening to the album all weekend. I must admit I did put on repeat..Works for me and Somebody out there. Too many great songs!!!
TOfan -- I agree. I love that he co-wrote ALTNOY. I hope he gets xtra on each sale of that song!! lol
Everyone should leave David a voice mail at:
(801)386-8196.
He seriously wants to know what our favorite songs are and I think with his busy schedule it’s alot more convenient for him to listen to voice messages than it is to read all of the comments on his MySpace page. It sounds like he really enjoys hearing from his fans.
good idea Joner
Joner, followed your directive and left a messaging saying that besides Crush and Angels (which we already know and love), my Top 5 are My Hands, ALTNOY, Works for Me, Somebody Out There, You Can and TBWY.
As soon as I hung up I realized that makes six. I cannot be expected to leave a message for David Archuleta and do math at the same time!!
Hi all! I had a long flight home on Sunday and I listened to the whole album straight through for the first time. I still find that my faves are Somebody out there and Works for me. Somebody out there is so tender, and Works for me is so fresh and fun. They both have simple arrangements that don’t hide his voice.
I’m hoping that ALTNOY will be the next single. I just gave my opinion on ratethemusic.
My next project is to re-order the cuts per Hello Gorgeous’ suggestion, for a car CD. Thanks HG!
On further thought…I will be happy with whatever they choose for the next single. They are all good. Interesting that so many have their “own favorite”. It would be so cool for David if ALTNOY is the next hit. He deserves it. As others have said, “He’s the hardest working 17 year old they know”!
Interesting “convert” review post:
Hi everyone! Did you see David posted yet another blog today? (This one made my cry, seriously. Could he be any sweeter? David=Love!):
Monday, November 17, 2008
Thank You
I just want you all to know how much I appreciate your unselfish, usually anonymous time and dedication to show your support for me and just want to say, Thank you sooo much. It means a lot to me, I feel like I can’t thank you enough for it.
Hi everyone!
I’m so glad more people are speaking out for ‘My Hands’. I really love it. It’s soulful, with great lyrics and so smexy! David is passion.
‘…But for the most part, the vocals are rich and mature, and the tracks are sensitive and even a little all-grown-up sexy (”My Hands”).’
Rachel Devitt
‘I think Crush, My Hands, and Waiting for Yesterday have crazy-cool beats and awesome lyrics!’
Jennette from iCarly
‘It can be downright frightening at times how precise and mature this kid’s vocals are. Following “Barriers”, we have another song about hands (and another album highlight) -- “My Hands”. In this song, little David comes as close to his AmIdol colleague Jordin Sparks’s brooding “No Air” as he talks about how he “accidentally, on purpose, I dropped my watch behind the tire, threw my alarm clock inside the fireplace” in a valiant effort to stop time so that he can hold on to that special someone eternally’
http://eargazm.livejournal.com/4815.html?view=1487#t1487
Yes, picking singles is a tough job for Jive! But that’s a problem every record company would like to have.
DavidLIZ, hope you enjoy the playlist!
TOfan284/valbraz286 -- thanks for the link!
“Oh, and there is that matter of the punishing vocal runs that David tosses off as easily as breathing in this song. In fact, overall, there are times when listening to the album and paying close attention to the vocals that I don’t think I am listening to a human at all but rather a creature that was manufactured to sing….”
WOW! Did Rascal write that review?!!
love the blogs ,love the links, love David…
Amen to that, Refnaf!
I’m just catching up on my David news and finally watched the Spike Feresten interview and Crush performance. Comparing this Crush performance with, say, the Ford performance, shows just how seasoned and grounded David is these days. Plus he was charming, articulate and funny in the interview. I love to see him relaxed and obviously having so much fun!
And refnaf, I’ll add my amen.
Catching up here, on several days worth of rascalhouse partying--ROTF laughing about the plaid discussion. As I’m reading, I’m simultaneously watching ET, and news of Miley’s death are greatly exagerated--she was on briefly wearing a green plaid shirt *exactly* like David’s on the Feresten show. So there you go--plaid is cool! Heck, I like it anyway, especially on certain adorkable 17 yr olds!
HG -- Curious about Anita Baker, I went off to learn a bit more about her--found out that the opening track of her *first* album was called “Angel”. (She co-wrote it.) Hmmm, I wonder what she thinks about His Arch-hawtness!
OK, back to the only news channel that really matters…. notingdavid!!! You guys are such a hoot!
Oh boy…there is a new interview with David Cook in USA Today that I think a lot of you guys will find interesting, especially those who are hesitant to accept Cook or doubt his motives re: DA….would love to know what you guys think…
http://www.usatoday.com/life/music/news/2008-11-17-david-cook-main_N.htm
Interesting interview, particularly this quote:
And that big brother/little brother narrative? Media hokum.
“To look at him as someone who needs protecting demeans him a little,” he says (of David A.). “I was seriously trying to keep my own boat afloat. What made the season fun is there wasn’t a lot of behind-the-scenes drama. We ran a clean race.”
***This tells me that Cook was very competitive. I think that our David really looks up to him as a big brother. I’d love to hear what the rest of you think. I do doubt Cook’s motives. I think he’s smart enough to realize that he can’t alienate David.
http://www.usatoday.com/life/music/news/2008-11-17-david-cook-main_N.htm
OMG…it was already posted…sorry
interesting comments to me…He talks about ducking attention and fostering harmony among Idol finalists but also confesses: “I’ve had a competitive spirit all my life. Love me or hate me, just don’t ignore me.”
“I guess I have a chip on my shoulder, because I hate that some people call it an upset,” he says, then allows, “I stood on the side of the stage that last Tuesday and thought Archie owned it. Give the kid credit: 17 years old, and he came in as a front-runner and held it for 14 weeks. I came in under the radar and had time to get my feet under me.”
And that big brother/little brother narrative? Media hokum.
“To look at him as someone who needs protecting demeans him a little,” he says. “I was seriously trying to keep my own boat afloat. What made the season fun is there wasn’t a lot of behind-the-scenes drama. We ran a clean race.”
o my heck!! 3 in a row…:)
Maybe no drama for him but David sure got it lol!
Just like I said before…he is competitive…spoken in his own words!!
hahaha we all found this article at the same time -- I had a feeling it would touch a nerve!
You guys are so right -- Cook is still in competition mode. No wonder our David always makes it a point to plug Cook’s CD -- I bet our David wants nothing more than for Cook to outsell him his first week…
And sorry, Cook, but you are deluding yourself if you think it was truly a “clean race” -- especially the last few weeks…and dude you have no right to have a chip on your shoulder, you freaking WON, fair or not!!! grrrr
Okay confess did you guys all check to see if he had DA on his iPod like I did? and of course he DIDN’T!
hypervibe- I like plaid on a certain adorkable 17 yr old HOTTIE with an even HOTTER voice too!!! How could ya not?
LittleMushroom-- NO I DIDN’T…I knew better!! David is not his style!!! No Archusmoothie for him blah blah…..
Hi everyone..just got home and dying to see what’s up with David, and what topic do I find??? COOK! hahaha!
I read the article..What I found interesting though is, what songs are on his I-pod…no David, then I looked up David’s I-pod..yup, Cook was there!
I mean, come on, David has some AWESOME songs on his album. Surely ONE of them should warrant a spot on Cook’s I-pod, no?
Ooookayyyyy……On a happier note….
From Snarky’s…
Updates from the Bonnie Hunt Show
Jackie is our talk show reporter extraordinaire! She just called me to tell me about David’s Bonnie Hunt appearance.
- The studio is really close to where the fires are, so the air is smokey, so David left right after the show ended, because it wasn’t good for his voice, of course.
- David’s aunt was there, sitting right in front of Jackie’s friend.
- Jackie was up on the front with the young and pretty guests.
- David was wearing, grayish jeans, black and gray horizontal striped shirt, with a blue Oxford button up, unbuttoned, sleeves rolled up.
- You could tell Bonnie Hunt adoooored him. David’s aunt apparently provided them some old pictures, including one of all the kids with their heads together on the floor? Also showed a photo from his Star Search days. Bonnie complimented him on hair “hair piece.”
- She told him not get a big had from the good stuff, don’t hurt your heart over the bad stuff.
- Bonnie’s doing an auction for charity. David gave a leather bracelet, instead of giving her a CD or poster, because he didn’t wanna be like, “Let me give you my face.”
- During the commercial break, he was talking to Bonnie and pointing to his shirt — apparently, he’s also giving her his light blue Oxford shirt.
- Jeff was there, off to the side, wearing a green T-shirt. He didn’t call security on Jackie this time.
- David did really good with Crush; in the studio the music sounded kinda loud, but everything seemed that way, though. After he was done, all the band members were just smiling.
- While he was performing, all the girls were standing, dancing.
- He got so many screams that Kathy Griffth curled up on the floor and covered her ears.
- Almost the whole audience was David fans.
- Jackie thought he did really well on his interview.
- When Bonnie announced him singing his song, she came up in the aisle, three people away from Jackie, and looked at them, and said, off-camera, that he was sooo cute and she was sooo nervous talking to him.
- After he performed, she say at her desk and did public service announcements. She was like, isn’t he cute, he’s genuine and sincere, he’s not just a pretty boy. She was so impressed with him, Jackie says, you could tell.
- Apparently, when Kathy Griffith came on, she was like, “Why does David have like a 10 person posse and I only have one?”
- Also, on the show, there are various doors that lead onto stage. He came in through the door upstairs, and exited by sliding down the fire pole. AHAHAHAHA. Apparently, the fire pole is rarely used. David is just swanky.
YAY.
what? David slid down a pole? Oh my heck…I will die tomorrow!!n WHEWW!!
hahaha Silverfox, we share a brain!
Inspired -- you knew better!!!
ooh that guy is something else. You’d think he’d be on top of the world -- he won! To still be all itchy about David A, well, to me that says he is worried about being overshadowed….interesting how they did seem to have grown closer at the end of the show and beginning of tour, yet as tour went on they seemed to get more distant…my guess is Cook thought he was gonna be the STAH and didn’t like being upstaged by David A from time to time…
silverfox, just like I wondered yesterday…if David loved and respected cook more than he does him.?…just sayin…I mean the song Imagine…that is one everyone likes I thought. Even me and I was not even born when they were the most popular…at least I dont think anyway.
I’m taking the high road here.
I think the differences between the Davids have less to do with personalities or motives and everything to do with age and experience.
Also, in general, I don’t think that “rockers” view the pop genre with any great musical respect. I think they see themselves as “musicians” and pop artists as being “studio manufactured”, which, if we’re being honest, in alot of cases is very true, so I don’t think Cook not having our David on his I-pod should be taken as a personal slam, it’s just personal preference.
juliebug..thanks for that very good note! (Missing rascal!)
And I gotta say g’nite all and of course I also GOTTA do this for David…
Dear Lord, We are unworthy to ask, but we are asking anyway, please…
Take Care Of Our Earth Angel, David. Watch over him, Protect him from all harm. Cloak him with your love and give him the strength to endure all that’s thrown in his path. Give him the courage and guidance to SAY NO to those who ask for more than he can reasonably give. Surround him with loving and supportive people who love him as we, his ARCHANGELS do. Separate him from those who have agendas other than for his well being. Give him rest when he’s weary and fatigued.
Give him the stamina to sustain his hectic pace. Give him assurance when he feels doubt. Give him joy when he feels sad. Cloak him always in your protective arms. Keep him healthy and strong so he can continue fulfilling the Destiny which was written in his Book of Life before he was born.
This we, though unworthy, humbly pray. Amen.
Sweet dreams David, be safe & secure in our love always! CONTIGO SIEMPRE CON AMOR! Take care.
We love you madly!
Bonnie is a big fan of the late Dean Martin and had her set constructed the way his was laid out on The Dean Martin Show. That set featured a fire pole which Dean used to slide down at the opening of his show. A few guests have used the pole on Bonnie’s show. Good for David -- fun times.
Sweet dreams SF!
one more comment..inspired by David…my answer to you is..time will tell. David has an Angel on his shoulder and no matter if he sells more albums or not, he will be the one with the LASTNG career. David will be making sublime music 20 years from now if he so chooses. Cook? Who will remember Cook in even 10 years..that’s what I think.
Don’t mean to be mean..just tellin’ it like I see it!
Nite all!
silverfox -- I agree with you. Look at everything that has happened already. I think our David will do just fine.
Well guys I didn’t mean to get anything started yesterday…its just that I am usually a pretty good judge of character…hee hee gets on my husband nerves when I am right, just like there was an incident today with our daughter and I told him what I thought was going on and then we found out I WAS RIGHT HA HA!! It was funny, but anyway i was just stating the fact that David loves and cares for everyone and sees the good in others, but not all people are really how they seem. Cook was in it to win it (just my opinion so please don’t bash me for my opinion again) and he had to step up his game in order to do that…that is what i call competing…soooooo…it was a competition to him, although they all got along well.
silverfox-- love the nightly prayer BTW.
I am not going to say much about the Cook article because well… I will try to be David like…..but …. oh never mind it doesn’t matter I guess… I just feel a little icky reading it and why when he says “the kid” does it feel insulting ?
The ipod thing… his loss..he is missing out on some great music…
Interesting about Cook. I’ve never met him, but I have never trusted him. As far as running a clean race during the latter half of the show? Hardly. I know we’ve already talked through this on this site and other DA fan sites, but you know what I mean.
Dang it, Rascal, you have said a lot of interesting, not to say provocative, things recently, and I was about to post the following but was cut short by your hiatus regarding Prop H8. I hope you don’t object if I post this anyway. First, let me thank you for correctly identifying David as a Bodhisattava on the 13th. It is undeniable: he is destined to reach Prajna, and we are so very blessed that he remains with us to help us onto the path (“…..and a child shall lead them……”).
On the 14th:
#34: Loved your comment to SF about your pangs of affliction. May you, and we, be forever blessed with it.
#40: “He’s a freak and he knows it. All geniuses are freaks.” Think Mozart. I wonder what the Viennese really said about him when they talked among themselves during his lifetime?
50#: “….I am highly sensitized to a certain reserve in him. I see it in his interpersonal engagements, I even see it in his performances. I rejoice when he relinquishes this, when he seems to feel utterly unencumbered. On Ellen, he did. And I rejoice.” Since he was described by one of his high school teachers as “painfully shy,” his interaction with Ellen D. was indeed lovely. He is obviously growing into his “‘suit’ of many colors” and it is a delight to see it occurring before our eyes.
Regressing to a previous thread: I love “Somebody Out There.” I love the song’s lyrics and melodies. I can’t listen to it without tearing. It is sophisticated and emotional at the same time…a winning combo. And of course, David’s voice is at his lyrical best, so plaintive, so calling. He sings it in the second person, but it is really a first person song, isn’t it? His own true person? If there is any song of the new releases that will be appreciated for years to come, this one bears all the earmarks of making a lasting, haunting, vibratory imprint on our consciousness’s.
However, and perhaps others may share my opinion, there is a serious flaw in this recording. It is found in the extremely annoying, so distracting, chirping of the guitar pick [?]. I cringe every time I hear it’s jarring, disturbing screeching into an otherwise exquisite song. It reminds me of the mynah birds at the Royal who’s loud caterwauling mornings and evenings almost block out the rhythmic, soothing sounds of the Pacific surf only steps away. I say: “El Paredon!” for the sound engineer/s who allowed this travesty. I dearly hope that a re-issue on a second album or as a singles release will see this problem erased or, at the very least, greatly diminished.
dj- ….did someone say “firepole!” …thud.
good night all. Thanks for the fun.
realmusiclover-I was thinking the same thing yesterday about David I thought he is still a bit reserved…holding back. Sometimes we get a glimpse of that amazing beautiful personality of his…when we can tell he is letting go a bit. I mean he always has a smile on that georgous face of his…but sometimes he is different…when he’s the “Shop Around” David. That is the David I adore!! I hope he learns to relax and just be himself and know that HE HAS IT!! It is all in his voice, his talent, his smile, his looks, geee whiz this guy has it all to be a major star by default.
Freofan-yes I do know what you mean
Guys… guys.. why spend previous time on a guy that deep down inside you will not like for the simple quirk of fate that is AI S7? For me, if you join AI, you must have a competitive spirit -- otherwise you cannot hack it. And that includes our David. It is just a matter of how you allow that competitive spirit rule you — that’s where the difference lie. And that difference is material to one’s character. Just MHO.
But that’s not what am posting RIGHT now. It’s because of this:
Also, on the show, there are various doors that lead onto stage. He came in through the door upstairs, and exited by sliding down the fire pole AHAHAHAHA. Apparently, the fire pole is rarely used. David is just swanky.
Me thinks tonight graveyard shifters would have a field day with this!! HAHA!!!
REMINDER: If we voted last week till our fingers turned blue so OUR DAVID can introduce his video at #1 spot, wouldn’t it be poetic justice if ANOTHER DAVID get to introduce the same video at the same spot? HEHEHE… I know, i know… am competitive too!
VOTE VOTE VOTE ANGELS!!!
OMG Jack Ryan what a GOOD POINT!!! We HAVE to vote that video #1 again!!!!!!! OMG to see the look on that guy’s oh I mean anything to support David A’s video, hahaha!
happy~ ..oh sure ..you are on fire again..throw out “a firepole ~and leave…i detect a trend here….hmmm.!!
haha just voted on Vh1 -- have you guys???
littlemushroom….I am voting right now!!
BTW, I urge y’all to share the love on the “David, thank YOU” thread on Snarkies. Some great stuff there. Geez, we love this guy …
http://www.snarkyarchies.com/2008/11/dear-david.html
301 Juliebug, thx for the Snarky update. I attended the show too. I will add that after the band performed Crush w/David and the show went into a commercial break, David walked over to each band member and spoke to them individually. It appeared as if he was thanking them for the performance. Also, the audience’s standing ovation continued thru the commercial break as David kept smiling while periodically waving to the audience.
313 Freofan, I believe Cook still sees himself competing w/David; he definitely wants to outdo him. However, I don’t think Cook’s competitive spirit is necessarily a bad quality. To me, David is also very competitive but he’s competing with himself to progress such that he can (stealing from Silverfoxe) “fulfill the Destiny which was written in his Book of Life before he was born”.
Cook will never beat David in a competition because David does not play Cook’s game.
Good night all.
I saw this jump at my screen and the experience was, I dunno surreal
This review posted at FOD:
For an artist who won over audiences with a platform of preternatural talent, endearing naivete, and a baby face just asking to be pinched, David Archuleta’s ability to sound so … adult always comes as a surprise. Here and there on his debut, a lack of depth and dimension — musically and emotionally — hints at the Idol runner-up’s youth. But for the most part, the vocals are rich and mature, and the tracks are sensitive and even a little all-grown-up sexy (”My Hands”). In other words, just what the man-voiced, baby-faced crooner’s devotees (tween girls and their middle-aged moms) ordered.
- Rachel Devitt, Rhapsody
Ebonyangel 325, “Cook will never beat David in a competition because David does not play Cook’s game.” So true yes yes!! And I agree with you 100% that David competes with himself. Lucky you for having attended the show! Thanks for the additional info on David. I love the guy (stating the obvious but love keeps flowing out of him, us, it is so joyful).
Am gonna go vote some more, listen to his music some more, then off to bed. G’nite all.
silverfox: I love your prayers. Amen.
realmusiclover #315, what you said about “Somebody Out There”:
“If there is any song of the new releases that will be appreciated for years to come, this one bears all the earmarks of making a lasting, haunting, vibratory imprint on our consciousness’s.”
I totally agree!! The strings, and the sweetness of the melody… I actually am reminded a little of the Bee Gees’ “How Deep Is Your Love.” It’s just got this melody that’s simple enough that I can see people singing along and remembering it years from now. I love this song so much that I seriously, seriously think that Jive has some trick up its sleeve in regard to this one…
What do you know! That was the vibe that I also got ronaldsf! I was feeling How-Deep-Is-You-Love-ishy with SOT! I thought that’s probably because am a 70′s kinda gal (with one foot left in the 50′s) -- glad to hear am not the only one!
He has to sing that at the JingleBall as his finale song! Of course, that is after he works his booties off with Let Me Go
Looks like I missed yet another lively party late last night. *makes mental note to self to hurry up and complete the work that keeps getting in the way of my ODD activities.*
First, what I would give to see David sliding down a fire pole. *thud.*
Second, , Ronaldsf (and Jackryan)? Really? I hear Eric Clapton myself, so, whatever.
Third, because I just have to go there, if Cook were in front of me right now, he’d have to talk to the hand.
I now take back all my “oh how I feel sorry for him cause he’s working for the Idol machine” and hope David “crushes” him in the album-selling competition.
Do not talk to me about having a “chip on your shoulder” when you won the entire shebang. And don’t you just love how he’s all about how “unfair” it is for people to view him as the “upset” winner? Guess what, dude, YOU WERE! You yourself admit that “I stood on the side of the stage that last Tuesday and thought Archie owned it.”
David OWNED you, he WIPED THE FLOOR with you, and yet you still want to talk about how you’ve got a chip on your shoulder because you won the title?
Ugh! Now, I have a completely different take on the “bowing” Cook was doing during the AI tour.
That’s right: bow to your superior! Concede that you cannot touch his Archu-greatness!
*ends rant.*
Good morning everyone!
Oops! That should read:
“Second, Bee Gees, Ronaldsf (and Jackryan)? Really? I hear Eric Clapton myself, so, whatever.”
Hi Everyone:
As always, very interesting dialogue.
And, as usual, I am the odd man out. Earlier in the thread there was discussion of David fans being “freaks.” Well, then, I am a SUPER freak. I think you’ve hit on something Rascal—lol.
I believe David’s reserve is a huge feature of his natural personality. He is obviously an introvert in an extraverted role at the moment—one of the reasons the decision to go on AI continues to amaze me.
• As an introvert he is most comfortable in the internal world of ideas and reflection.
• I think the distinction between Extroverts and Introverts is really a review of the growth path David is walking now. He is learning to act in the Extraverted role that being runner-up at AI has thrust him into.
• Extraverts tend to act, then reflect, then act further. Introverts tend to become less energized as they act: they prefer to reflect, then act, then reflect again. Introverts need time out to reflect in order to rebuild energy.
• The Introvert’s flow is directed inward toward concepts and ideas and the Extravert’s is directed outward towards people and objects. Extraverts desire breadth and are action-oriented, while introverts seek depth and are thought-oriented.
When David sings, he is in his world and for him that is internal and he brings the listener into his internal world--he exits that world at the end of the song as do we. We seen that over and over. Ah, that smile when he comes out of the song when he believes he did good!
I applaud and am in awe of David working across his natural “grain” to become more extraverted. We ,his fans, have our personal perception of how we want him to interact. I am amazed at his progress, so pubic, so real--what he is doing is developing an interactive style that is new, different and not his natural style--and since he is so authentic, he has to develop this new interactive style in his truth. His ambition is to sing, share his music. The rest he does, not for self, but to share his music.
Gah—this young man is pure, beautiful, glorious LOVE!
David’s interview with Spike Fereston is the best I have seen so far. He had so much fun and the fans were fantastic. After his performance of “Crush” he gave fans the same smile that he gave to the judges after he performed “Heaven” on AI. A “gheeeeeee” smile of joy and anticipation as thought he was saying to himself “gosh…that tinglish feelings, did I do OK?”. The same smile again and a slight lifting of his shoulders when Spike at the end of the show said “David Archulet’s new album is available in the stores”..That is the SMILE that I fell in love with and it is absolutely heaven to see it again.
David has slowly taking down the barriers(which became apparent after “Shop Around”) and I am very happy for him.
I don’t know, from this show and other recent interviews, I feel David is a born Comedian; he could keep a straight face while others were laughing at his answers and reactions.
Good morning everyone, and HG, you are up early. Good nite to myself.
ronaldsf -- I hope that Jive has recognized the genius and pure magic of “Somebody Out There” and has a grand plan to release it and promote it. That would be my dream of the moment!
Morning everyone..or whoever is here this fine morn!!
I was bopping in my chair to Waiting For Yesterday!! Love this song! Then…
Falling, even with the sad lyrics, it soothes my soul knowing David, even at the young age of 14 was able to put himself in the shoes of those who are in the depths of despair to write this song..how many among us could ever have hoped to do such a thing at the age of 14??? Thank you David, for your compassion and understanding!
Then, Let Me Go!! ..No way, no how…we will never let you go, David!! Bopping again!
Now..Somebody Out There..again, a look into the depth of David’s compassion and how he somehow “knows”.
Just cannot stop listening, especially the bonus tracks!
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE THE ALBUM!!
Later!!
re: USA Today cook’s interview. I believe it is the first time I hear he is talking his heart….
You know what I love David most? He is able to focus on the good things, which I could never be. That I think I am stupid, a very famous chinese author has written this: a real smart person knew when he need to be smart, when need to be “stupid”, when need to pretend “he doesn’t know/see/get”. I think I need to learn.
Yes, Diana, I have to get an early head start for yet another full and busy day. Hence why I’m soaking up ND in the hours when I can.
Kizzi,what lovely words to offer us this fine morning. Cook thinks he’s “complicated,” or however he put it, but David doesn’t have to announce himself. We sit back and observe with wonder.
David is the complex one here, and I think we’ll always go back and forth in amazement at how the contradictions of being such a deep, soulful person grates against the superficialities of AI and the current pop scene, as well as how an obviously shy guy can still hold his own in an arena that screams for divaesque, extroverted super-grand egos. He’s doing so amazingly well in keeping this incongruous balance, which is why I imagine we’re all so captivated by him.
This, dear Cook, is how you stand out and avoid the death knell of “being ignored.”
A rather entertaining Washington Post review of both David’s albums from a few hours ago. Given our previous talk of unicorns, I found it hilarious that the reviewer said that our David was “made of fluffy unicorns.” The reviewer compares their voices and calls Cook a “formidable” singer. You gotta be kidding me.
Cook, Archuleta and Echoes of ‘Idols’ Past
By Allison Stewart
At this point in its run, it’s probably inevitable that “American Idol” would have to begin recycling its archetypes. David Cook and David Archuleta, the show’s most recent winner and runner-up, respectively, have released self-titled discs within a week of each other, and both fit neatly into niches carved out by contestants past.
The 17-year-old Archuleta — sweet-faced, asexual, beloved of mothers — has a fondness for smiley and yearning songs about the power of love. He’s this season’s Clay Aiken. The 25-year-old Cook glowers strategically, wears black sometimes and plays the guitar. He’s this season’s Chris Daughtry.
Both artists have made considerably better records than their progenitors ever did, though this isn’t saying much.
“David Archuleta” is a work of great, syrupy charm, a dorky delight without obvious artifice, and without teeth. Unlike Aiken, who always seemed kind of peevish and whose pop albums tended to take an unfortunate detour toward musical theater, Archuleta is too young to be complicated, and he’s got an MOR heart. He’s like Phil Collins with a better voice, or Robbie Williams without social skills.
He loves inspirational ballads and soulful pure-pop songs about unrequited love (“A Little Too Not Over You,” “Touch My Hand,” “Crush”), all sung with the same tremulous, just-trying-to-get-to-know-you-girl zing, and all so catchy it’s almost unfair.
“David Cook” is an album of decidedly more modest charms, though it’s not necessarily Cook’s fault: He’s a formidable singer and stylist with a sense of assurance rare for a newly minted “Idol” winner (that he released a rules-skirting pre-”Idol” solo debut, “Analog Heart,” probably didn’t hurt). But the market for unthreatening grunge-pop is currently overserved, and as good as “David Cook” frequently is, there’s little to distinguish it from similar works by Lifehouse, say, or Collective Soul.
“Cook” is swaggery except where it’s sensitive, faux-dangerous except for a few necessary adult-contemporary ballads (such as the searing, pretty great “Permanent”) and rotely anthemic throughout. It’s the album Daughtry would have made if he’d had better producers and more of an interest in melody, or Hinder might have made if it were less scary.
But both “David Cook” and “David Archuleta” are better albums than the tone-deaf show souvenirs most contestants are routinely saddled with.
“Idol” overlords used to have iron-fisted control over their contestants’ output, which is why Kelly Clarkson sounded so miserable on her debut, and why Ruben Studdard once had to sing a cover of the Carpenters hit “Superstar,” an indignity from which he has yet to recover.
But the show’s overseers have recently loosened the creative reins, or at least given the appearance of doing so. Both “Cook” and “Archuleta” offer previously forbidden glimpses, however brief, of the artists’ actual personalities: Cook is Chris Cornell as a Midwestern bar singer; Archuleta seems to be made entirely of fluffy unicorns and Skittles.
Unlike most “Idol” product, “Cook” and “Archuleta” benefit from the idea, no matter how specious, that their creators are actually invested in the process. And unlike most “Idol” product, both discs would be a lot less likable if someone else had made them.
Oh-No!! woo-hoo…WORKS FOR ME!! whatever works for you, David my luv, works for me!!
Hi to all, first time posting but long time lurker here.
I really really enjoy this site and all the posts here. A big THANK YOU to Rascal for sharing your love for David.
Diana -- I am from Singapore too, Just to share with you ,our local TV is airing the repeat of the AI7 -- Mon to Wed at 4pm if you are able to watch it.
There is also a fansite in SG -- Davidarcheleta.sg to get updates of David in SG. The site is run by younger fans (mainly teens) in Singapore but it does have very up-to-date info of happenings. Thats where I get info of the CD release and did a pre-order too !
“Fluffy unicorns and Skittles!” Dude, David is much more nutritional than that. Sheesh!
My eyes are shut tight…anything having to do with reviews..good or bad…I will not read. Lifes too good now with David’s music flowing all through me..I can hear it even when I’m not playing the CD or listening to my
i-pod…THE VOICE is ingrained in my mind..no room for
idle chit-chat from reviewers who think they KNOW David.
Gotta get some work done, or I may have no WORK! Ah, who cares?? just kidding!!
ebonyangel #325
thanks for the insight during commercial break -- sounds like our David! Great to hear the audience continued to revel in David’s performance.
I think you are bang on about how the two David’s compete. Cook vs. others and David vs. himself.
kizzi #334 Oh how I agree with your post. It truly amazes me how far David has come in learning to adapt to the extrovert world and how HARD it must be for him to do so. I bow down to you David for your accomplishments in this area. Just one more thing to admire about him!
SF, you know what really gets me energized and ready for the morning? That latest club remix of “Crush.” You should really see me rock out to this as I tend to my morning rituals -- ha ha!
If Jive isn’t going to release a new single right about now, then I at least hope enough radio stations play this version -- another way of promoting the song and the album.
OK, now I have to head on out for the day. Until next time!
Thought I would post this article
One interesting quote: “But Archuleta’s songs do have one drawback: The first time around it may be difficult to differentiate between them, but repeated listening produces distinguishable features in each song.”
I think she nailed it on the head with the “repeated listening” comment. David is subtley personified and when I listen to his songs I actually have to stop what I am doing and really listen -- to the words and to emotion with which he sings, and how the emotion evolves within each song. Just amazing to me. I don’t think David’s music will ever be just background music for me.
I’ve watched David on Feresten a gagillion times. I just love his interview, performance and especially the crowd reaction.
It made me realize something about why our “relationship with David is so special. After the finale he repeatedly let us know that he would never have gotten as far as he did without us. He then proceeded to return that favor during the concert tour by spending hours on end signing autographs, having pictures taken, hugging and talking with his fans which endeared him to us even more. He also went on to say that “WE are as much a part of this as he is”. He connected himself to us as much as we have connected ourselves to him.
What’s also interesting to me is how much genuine effort he puts into sustaining our “relationship” with the frequent blogs, text messages, phone messages, etc. no matter how busy his schedule seems to be.
A motto that I personally try to live by is You have to BE a friend to have them.
At just 17 he understands that relationships, on any level, require effort and participation so that they can flourish and thrive. He’s demonstrated this awareness repeatedly in his relationships with family and friends. This is why, six months after American Idol, the fans are still screaming for him and will continue to scream for him.
He keeps our connection alive. He would never desert us and we will never desert him.
Everyone go to cnn and click on entertainment. There is a nice pic and article on Archie. Give it some hits so he can be on the top 10 most viewed
jackryan4DA #331 and HG #332, SOT makes me think of several musical influences:
It makes me think of “How Deep Is Your Love” because of the soft touch on the strings throughout the song (“How Deep Is Your Love” has a very mellow background, with strings and synthesizer). Also, the melody during the chorus syncopates, emphasizing the space halfway between each beat, which happens a lot during HDIYL.
And SOT also makes me think of Eric Clapton, at least his 2 famous acoustic songs later in his career “Tears in Heaven” and “Change the World”, because of the prominence of the guitar and also the melody is chromatic on the line “if only you knew it was me” riding on a minor IV chord, which reminds of those songs.
And then there’s the definite “acoustic soul” vibe in the verses, with the acoustic guitar and the way the words are sung/spoken. Like India Arie (“Video”) of recent years.
So yeah, all these influences make it both sound classic AND contemporary imho…
#343 HG -- “Skittles” LOL -- As rascal noted, David is filet mignon. Too bad reviewers don’t have the sense to refine their taste buds with David’s music--or maybe their taste buds aren’t gourmet.
I don’t know much about teen pop but the word bubblegum and sweet has been used alot about most of his new songs by reviewers. Maybe Skittles is just an inventive synonym--certainly it is tween/teen oriented.
Still, not an awful review, just her perceived truth--and that is the good of it; it isn’t the ultimate truth and perceptions will be changed in time.
#348 Joner -- I enjoyed your post; I often wonder if David, the avid student of AI, worries about fan attrition as time passes from the end of the show in May.
#351 Kizzi -- “Fan Attrition”
With anyone else I would say “yes”, but not with David. I believe his motivation is purely because he is truly thankful and moved by our continued support.
Kizzi, #334, loved your post. “His ambition is to sing, share his music. The rest he does, not for self, but to share his music” certainly stands in contrast to Cook’s quote in the USA Today interview: “When people talk about this period in music, I want my name to be brought up.”
Which, let’s be honest, is probably the reason 99.9% of performers get into the business in the first place. Yet another thing that makes David Archuleta so dang special.
Joner, #348, “He would never desert us and we will never desert him.” I second that emotion!
