A Star is Born

Thanks to Clee1107 from IDF via Snarky for the concert shots.
After seeing the range of fan-cams and hearing from folks who were there, I’m ready to speculate that something very special happened on Wednesday night. It looks as if David has re-integrated. Over the course of the year, he has been developing different aspects of himself as a performer: the balladeer, the competitor, the pop prince, the heart-tugger. It looks as though it all came together in Sacramento, and David owned every one of them. There looks to be a new ease, a new comfort, a new confidence. And, I believe, a new recognition of a familiar fact: There is no place David would rather be than in front of an audience. We’ve seen it. Now, he knows it, and plainly cherishes it.
The freedom that is so vivid in this performance is utterly infectious, and I think we are witnessing the launch of the full fruition of what may someday be titled, David Archuleta: The Early Years. As he prepares for his first independent performance tour, it seems clear that his audiences are about to witness the true measure of this man, in all his youthful permutations. Playful, soulful, exuberant, generous. There is nothing terribly serious on the song set menu, and at this point in the Evolution of Archie, that’s probably just right. I confess I wondered whether David would be able to craft enough connection without the searing poetry and emotive power of songs like “Imagine,” “When You Say You Love Me,” or “Don’t Let The Sun Go Down on Me.” But the kid has done it. He brung it. His connection with his audience is unmistakable and true.
What may also be written about in times to come is the early and increasingly ironic fallacy that David lacks versatility. I predict that this will ultimately be laughed at or simply tagged as apocryphal. As we begin to see the live performances of his first album effort, it becomes evident that given just a little time for marinating, David can make a feast of almost anything. What are we going to be in for when the serious stuff starts?
Paddles, please.
I love you Rascal!
rascal..this always happen to me..I always have the last post on the previous thread..then BAM..you hit me again with another post that brings me to tears and absolutely glorious pics of David! ( maybe it’s a good thing though, cuz I may be in trouble with some people on the last thread ).
This is truly where David belongs..on the stage with a live audience! He is doing what he loves..singing to the people he loves, his fans!
Oh, and I love you too, rascal!!
Thank you Rascal, this post validates me! So often we examine David to death and have concerns about almost anything he does – but as my husband pointed out to me last night:
“Honey, if other fans feel even a fraction of what you do, David Archuleta is a STAR!”
I know in my heart this is true, but I find myself seeking validation of it daily. Thank you for giving us this early today and reminding me I’m not alone in my passion for David Archuleta.
Way to go Sacramento! May the lovefest continue everywhere he goes!
That first picture is so…..joyous and telling of this freedom David has found on stage and with his audience.
During AI, due to the “bubble”, he had no clue how we all loved him. As the tour began and fans were showering him with love (and gifts) he started to understand just what we were talkin’ ’bout. Now, although it’s not his solo tour, these Jingle thingies are confirmation that we love him….and clearly, he loves us back. This confirmation gives him the energy to perform with what I like to call, sheer abandon. If that isn’t what I saw on Wednesday night, then I’ll eat my shirt. Take a look at that first picture – it’s there on his face – beautiful, wonderful, sheer abandon.
We love you David. We’re here forever.
And isn’t it interesting that, WE, David’s die hard fans who love him to bits, were surprised by this incredible performance. What were we expecting? I’ll have to ponder that.
I should probably fill my calendar with his performance schedule for the month of December and get my ODD under control or it will be a free for all at my house. That won’t be pretty, trust me.
Just dropping in to say to you Rascal how your words bring us so much. They are so moving and expressive and they add so much to this journey with David. I saw on this last set of performances and he will not be contained. Along with his mega talent is a personality that is quite headstrong but at the same time cautious and deliberate. He will move forward at his own pace as much as is possible on his own terms as much as that is possible. That spine of steel is going to be needed for what awaits him in the future. But you can obviously see that he is “busting out” David style. Oh my, he is “the man”.
Also, straying somewhat from this a little bit. I saw a post on youtube and a person had commented on how his songs are sung in an arc, they take you up “ecstasy” and then you come down. Reminds me of that hoopla about a long time ago discussion when “Crush” first came out. (No comment necesary on this last paragraph as we are anxiously awaiting someone’s soon to be celebrated birthday). Interestingly, David, as he expressed on one of his interviews, recognizes that his 18th birthday is a big one and I wish I could see into his mind as to what he is expecting to happen.
SF- going back to last thread to pickup your last comments. We know how much you love David and so I am sure you say only truth and what you believe and always have David’s interests in mind.
Love you guys to pieces.
Yup, rascal, he brung it. Integration is an operative word here. When he walked up on stage and started to sing “Touch My Hands,” it was just electric. The band was pumped, the audience was eager and David rode confidently on top of that energy. Looking at close-up videos of his face yesterday, I could see alternating playfulness, intensity, darkness/pain, flirtiness, as well as that sweet smile that we know so well. And woven through every moment of his performance was a grounded sense of self. He didn’t need to strain, his expression flowed effortlessly through his voice and body. He grabbed us at some cellular level and carried us blissfully along.
Oh my….
Gosh Rascal. I love you so much right now! You encapsulated what transpired the other night as only you can.
Like I said the other day, he kicked ass! It was a joy to behold. even from my computer screen. Live, it must have been electric.
brooklyndawn – yup, the energy was electric. Vermeer will testify that I danced my little tush off.
And to paraphrase rascal from the last post:
The aesthetic and sensual appeal of the human body (AND VOICE) is something to be celebrated!
this post makes me all mushy and gushy. beautiful and so true and ahhh, david.
i’m incoherent.
After thinking about ronald’s post from yesterday….ronald making the connection between Shop Around and Works for Me it dawned on me that Shop Around and this Sac performance are in a sense bookends to David’s AI experience. I reviewed Shop Around again last night, it is one of my all time favorite performances…every element of what I love about it was there in Sacramento.
The shear JOY of performing, his body in sync with his songs…being able to express himself physically and well as musically …it was all there. It was a glorious moment in his career to have witnessed first hand.
And finally I think he got it…that the audience was there to see him! 7,000 people standing, screaming and chanting his name…how could he not?
Rascal, “David Archuleta: The Early Years” — LOVE that. The first chapter of the epic novel of David.
Don’t hate me for saying this, guys, but when I saw David do that move in Rascal’s top shot (offering the mic to the audience), it reminded me of a Cook move from the Idol tour. Then I realized, David’s picked up a lot of things from Cook (even the outfit, if you think about it).
Rascal, you mentioned after the Manchester show that he should do that and I admit I balked. But I see now that, brilliant sponge that he is, David’s doing what Paula lauded him for. Taking what “works for him” and tossing away the rest. Man, he’s amazing.
Rascal, beautifully said. My favorite is Works for Me. He really connects with the song and loves to perform it, and boy did he. wow!!! Trying to get a message to Jeff to tell David we are all just in amazement of him. He was brilliant!
check this out…this is posted on FOD. New video of Crush!
http://new.music.yahoo.com/videos/–205683057
Yep! This is the ease and confidence that I was talking about in the other thread.
He is feeling better and better in leaps and bounds, even just a couple of months since the AOL recording.
I think singing “Crush” in all of those shows really helped him. It’s not easy singing and presenting yourself, and then there’s this added pressure (which David hadn’t felt before) of singing your OWN songs. You are “seeking approval” in two counts, your performance and your material.
I’m heartened (but not surprised) that David is steadily (or rather quickly) coming into his own.
But make no mistake, I still think David still has a little ways to go. But since he is going so fast, I have no doubt that he will get there in no time.
Hi Erin~ 14/15~ thanks for the video link..does this guy ever sleep??….I wish I had a fraction of his energy!!….good luck getting that message to Jeff/David…send lots of our love ….
Hope you are all healed up by now…it is a busy season….
Hi Erin #15 ~ You found the same video I did! I posted it on the last thread, but no one seemed to say much about it! I thought he looked great, loved the way he walked in, very relaxed (using his new-found acting skills), and sang Crush very well too! I must admit a flower shop is an unlikely location for a video ~ but still, it’s David in all his glory ~ who can argue with that! Not me!
Good to see you Erin ~ hope you’re feeling better each day! I’m home for lunch.
djb, yea it’s crazy how busy he is. Yesterday he was doing to video for ALTNOY. What a busy day. Can’t wait to see that one!
Heart, glad to see you again. Love the video, he’s so adorable. Doing great, going back to work on Monday…
Erin~ video for ALTNOY should be something special considering it is a song he co-wrote….the connection there should be oh so David…priceless…. A treat a day he is….
A Star is Born indeed!
If he personally needed any validation about how he would be received detached from AI, he got it in Sacramento on Wednesday night.
I think what kind of shocked me more than anything, was how prepared he seemed for this. I detected no nervousness and the way he used the stage was unexpected and stunning, especially after the comments he had made earlier in the pre-show radio interview when he said he sucked at dancing and was gonna have to find a way to move around more.
Well, David…MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!
David on the road!!!
http://davidarchuletanetwork.ning.com/profiles/blogs/behind-the-scenes-with-david
Erin, glad you’re doing great and you’re able to go back to work on Monday! Take it easy, and enjoy your weekend!
About the video, I was surprised that it was sponsored by Pepsi! Saw this on another site:
Pepsi sponsors the creation of alternate videos from artists with hit songs. Embed codes are provided so the videos can by posted anywhere on the internet. COOL!
Did you hear that David here in Orlando today? And of course I have to work! Sure wish I knew exactly when and where. I think he’s recording a video for the Christmas parade? (Cook is supposed to be flying in also.)
Talk to later!
Joner, thanks for that great video! Always great seeing David, anytime, anywhere!
Joner #23, wow, you lemons are fast! I was just about to post that.
Tofan~ love your avi !!..maybe we should all wear converse sneaks in Albany so we can find each other !!
To echo Liz, oh yes, he brung it alright. It was a David that was so familiar yet so different at the same time. He never, ever ceases to impress me.
Joner #23: As I watched that video, I couldn’t help the huge, proud smile on my face. He has come such a long way, and yet this is just the beginning.
I finally got my videos from Sacramento uploaded, and wanted to share a couple (these are the clearer ones):
WFM:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kufXSbgMvrI
ALTNOY:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5d5-EU183OA
DJB #27, hahaha, great idea. I was actually trying to figure out how to make a button out of Rascal’s ND logo to wear.
np1107, thanks for the vids, excellent ones, you even caught the little waves and the “Mariah hand”!
Thanks for the “yahoo” Cush video.
I noticed in a few scenes that the flower arrangement hanging above David was one of his favorite symbols – the encircled Peace sign.
Being the season of Peace and Joy, I wish everyone the very best and thank all of you for sharing your thoughts, stories and videos.
A special thank you to Rascal for his creativity, dedication, and talent…I’m pretty sure that I discovered his wonderful website on day 1, and regret not submitting the very first comment. Anywho…thanks Rascal…and I love you, too!
Rascal–
OT for this thread, but I wasn’t sure I’d get a response on the last thread……..Did you rewrite the text under the Works for Me video? I reread it and it seems so “changed”. Just askin’. love this blog to bits and pieces.
Abrra
This is absolutely adorable:
http://video.msg.com/Videos/MSG-Networks/t1i6ol8WSJ30jPvQuMZDzHqQL7A5GC8U
np1107 – Thanks for the videos. Your WFM has the clearest shot I’ve seen of the “Mariah” hand, which I just love!!
That MSG video was great – thanks for posting it Josie – – he is so real . . “I hope I don’t pee my pants or fall off the stage” . . so cute! haha
np1107 #28 – You said, “It was a David that was so familiar yet so different at the same time.”
Nat, I agree. I think this is part of our intense pleasure in following David. We didn’t discover an artist fully formed, we discovered an artist in development, and every turn in the road is a surprise and a delight.
A quick hello to everyone! And np1107, beebee, Mr. beebee, ronaldsf, collegemom, quiteblanc, janey, bianca, it was so cool to meet you all!!
I am behind by several days by now, trying to catch up here and there.
mamasaun #303 from the last thread, regarding David and his “sexiness” and what some “look” at, I would tend to think it’s not likely he would ever consider not “moving” on stage anymore if he knew how people/fans are looking at him because seriously, it’s not just some of us here who notice and comment on his looks or moves. Tens (hundreds?) of thousands of his young fans, teens, 20 somethings (his larger fanbase) are no doubt enamored with how he looks and what he exudes, his sexiness for a lack of a better word. They are drooling!!
David can not possibly be unaware of the effect he has on many of his fans. He is inexperienced in life in certain areas but he is NOT unaware. If he is someone who could so easily embarrassed by some of the comments here or anywhere that he would stop doing certain things on stage, then he himself would know he could not really consider a career in the music industry starting out as a pop artist IMHO. Along with his singing, HIS VOICE, he is working on his performance and doing what’s needed as he sees fit.
He is one grounded and centered person and he is very clear about who he is and he has a fearless and independent mind in my book.
David’s fearless and independent mind, it’s all SUPER sexy to me. It’s a must as an artist.
vermeer, Amen. There is ample evidence that David knows his own heart and mind and has the strength to follow them.
“You say I don’t know what I want
But it worked out just fine
You said it never could be done
But it worked out just fine, oh
…And I know you’re just
trying to help me out
Thanks, but I’ll follow my heart instead”
Brett talks about how strong-minded David is. On a recent FOD interview, Brett said that David is always respectful, but he knows his own mind.
The top photo is gorgeous! I love the ‘behind the scenes’ video posted at his official site, too. But the one at the flower shop was a mistake, IMHO. Hope it gets buried under lots of great fan videos of the Jingle concerts and the always interesting radio interviews that keep coming up. I’m under the impression that radio people love him. They must know talent.
Wow, adoration and jubilation rule the day! Two delectable side effects of this incredible journey.
Dearest rascal, you executed an exquisite 180°; I am deliciously dizzy-LOL. Or in Latin we would say, “Rascalscelus miraculum.” Your cyber-name does say it all. Oh, and by the way, I officially love you.
A Star Is Born – first thoughts, Judy Garland and Barbra Streisand! Whew!
Subsequent thoughts: A young star was born this year on AI. We, blessed with extraordinary telescopic vision, saw the bright light of that star and its magnetic pull on our hearts and souls enveloped us in its force field. In our naiveté, we called it ODD. As that star’s light burned brighter, the visual acuity of others saw the bright, beautiful, joyful artistic light of the young star. Wednesday evening, that young star burned even brighter; a solar flare burst forth, and even more recognized that star’s beauty, artistry and joy. And, yes, rascal, what will we do when that young star realizes it zenith!!! All I can say is I am ready for that tsunami of artistic bliss!
ODD, shall be renamed at some point in the near future. It is not a disorder. It is as elemental to our existence as the air we breathe.
Ah, all my friends at ND—life IS grand! How‘d we get to be so lucky?!!!!!
Yay! {{{Vermeer!}}} Bravo! Well said
Amen!
I’m still an incomprehensible blithering archu_idiot after Wed. nite. A verrrrrrry HAPPY one, however.
I so LOVE reading what you ALL have to say. And so LOVED meeting you, Vermeer, and LIZ), ronald, quiteblanc, np, Janey, abd Bianca and the FOD’ers. (Have I forgotten anybody? I’m out of my mind.) I said this two threads ago, but will say it again, David has the best fans in the known universe!
HG, I canNOT wait for you to see David at MSG. (Wait, are you going to Albany, too? Which ones are you attending?)
Rascal, David SOOOOO BRANG IT at Sacramento! He hath arrived! Still, it was over SOOOO FAAAAST, so I am ultra grateful for the videos.
I’ve heard that the plan is that amongst ALL of the JB’s we will have performances of THE WHOLE ALBUM. Not at one venue of course, but cumulative. If the vids of upcoming JB’s are on par with the ones we have from Sacto… it’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas! Wooooot!!!!
Josie! {{{{huggg}}}} ♥ ♥
vermeer #36 – Yes and Yes and Yes.
And a story to support your comments:
My niece lives in a suburb of Sacramento. I have sent her everything I can as it relates to David’s music and turned her into a David fan – she is 14 and a freshman in HS.
Unbeknown to me, she and a friend went to the Sac Jingle Ball Wednesday. She texted me today wanting to know where to get David pictures, posters, etc. Seems her friend had her room plastered in Johnny Depp posters and has taken them down replacing them with everything David. Her friend had listened to a couple of David songs prior to the concert but was not a fan, according to my niece, but, then, she was instantly mesmerized at the Sac concert.
So, if this is the impact on our tweens/teens (who, hopefully occupy the huge middle of that statistical pop music sales bell curve), all is rosy for David!
Josie 4- YES
Josie 5- At the core of it I was nervous for David, hoping that he would pull it off, but not really letting myself believe that it would…
TOfan 13 LOVE your new avi AND I think it is just uncanny how David just knows what will work for him. The words to WFM really say it all especially the third? verse talking about his voice not working for him and how he KNOWS were he wants to be.
Oh, and one more thing, since I waxed poetic on a sensitive, artistic young man who inhabits my Circle of Concern, I need to give another equal time:
My 21 year old baby graduates from college next week with a BS in Exercise Science AND he was accepted into Dental School in Fall of 2009!
I do have a partiality for bright, sensitive young men.
Kizzi, Congratulations on behalf on your son. You must be bursting with pride!
Kizzi huge hugs. Beebee huge hugs. Oh my heck! Huge hugs to all my ND pals.
Awestruck-I admit I was a bit nervous for him but I always am. It must be residual from AI days. Maybe I can let that go now
Kizzi, congrats to your son! and Awestruck #43, thanks, this avi makes me think of how David keeps wowing us by leaps and bounds!
Beebee #41, “I’ve heard that the plan is that amongst ALL of the JB’s we will have performances of THE WHOLE ALBUM.” Wowwww, that will be so cool. And it sounds like a great way to warm up all the songs for the …. SOLO TOUR!! Rascal, “paddles, please” is right!!!
Rascal:
After viewing the youtube vids of David’s performance in Sacto on the 3rd it only reinforces my opinion that this kid was born to be a movie star on the order of someone like Sinatra. The camera absolutely loves him, and I can see his face in closeup filling up the big screen as he sings. A little more training in how to move more smoothly, a little more gracefully, and those who suffer now from ODD will simply melt away in ecstasy.
Tangentially, I’d like to share this comment made on youtube by a viewer of David’s Sacto performance:
blisskasden (16 hours ago)
For someone who says that he’s never kissed a girl or had any experience in that area, he is one sexy dude. It’s as if he’s redefining what sensuality is. This is how change happens. Someone comes along who is a living example of another way to be, or think, or act. People are attracted to that person and start emulating him/her. Before you know it, it’s a different world. It happened in the
’60s and, thanks to David, it’s happening again
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fZ5H7G3H05o
Yes! Spot on observations, rascal. We are so dang lucky to watch this young phenom develop into greatness and fulfill his destiny. I count myself as fortunate to be one of the souls he has touched along the way.
realmusiclover: The comment from blisskasden from YouTube – it is absolute TRUTH! Chills. Thanks ever so much! This is sweet bliss!
realmusiclover: David is the NEW cool!!
Has anyone seen the meet and greet photos from Sacramento? I have an interesting impression. David was sitting next to Jessie McCartney, which in itself was pretty cool considering the following that Jessie has, but what was interesting is that David seemed to be the one who was more relaxed and engaged with fans in the pictures.
I’ve got to believe that it is a teeny bit threatening for someone like Jessie to behold David coming up the ranks. Even though David performed first, the screams that he got had to be a bit intimidating for someone in Jesse’s shoes.
It kind of reminds me of something Cook said the first night he followed David’s performance in Utah….”:I’d hate to be the guy that followed THAT guy”….
Ahhh….ya!!!
Oops, forgot to add, Josie #4: LOVE your post on love, YES!!!
#48 TOfan – I LOVE your avatar – great shoes – Converse Love!
Are you at Albany Jingle Jam?
Click on the 6th little dot above the picture…
http://www.charlotteobserver.com/galleries/gallery/396202.html
haha!
Time to show all your love for David and VOTE ON VH1 !!!!
Kizzi 51 & 52:
Yeah, he is cool, ain’t he?
Oh man, Rascal! That top photo was the moment I was squeeing like a tweenie yesterday. His command of the audience, the stage, the mic, oh wow! He is tearing it up!
It never ceases to amaze me how MANLY he can be when he’s wrapped up in the music and how incredibly dorky he is when he’s doing one of his interviews. This beautiful confusion between man and child has got me in a tizzy.
Even his Archustrut in that cheesy little Pepsi Smash video is showcasing how much he has grown and matured in his confidence. (BTW, Rascal, your comment in the last thread about just saying no to these kinds of videos had me ROFL earlier this morning).
It’s really exciting to imagine the places he will take us … and sooner rather than later it seems.
HG – Did you see the photo comparison Amy at Snarky’s posted today? Comparing David during the tour this summer and David now? Wow!
Juliebug, the progression is quite obvious! Especially when Amy says:
“so chicago will be mars and atlanta will possibly be jupiter? AND SOLO TOUR WILL BE HEAVEN?”
How many of us can’t wait to get to heaven?!
Kizzi #55, haha, looks like our runners are dancin’ up there! Yes, Refnaf & I will snowshoe to Albany if we have to. Are you there too? And HG? Djb had a great idea for us all to wear Converse sneaks so we’ll know each other! It would be great to meet you guys.
Converse sneakers?! Um, do you really think we’ll be able to notice each other’s feet in a crowd? Interesting idea. Maybe we should identify each other by what hats we wear maybe? ha ha!
#62 TOfan: IF I get there it will be just before the concert starts. Do have ticket though. hmmm….anyone meeting after anywhere? I will be staying at Hampton Inn abt 3 miles away IF I can get there on Wednesday.
Kizzi40/vermeer36/SF301(last thread)- I love everything you said.
Congratulations to your son Kizzi on his achievements.
Kizzi, it all depends on if my friend is game to do anything after the concert. I’m just hoping the weather will hold up!
How I envy you guys who will be going to JB/JJ ‘s. The one near me is north of Boston. Ugly ride and I can’t see at night ( whaaaaa). Anyway, you could all bring RED consturction paper with a BIG ND on it and stand at the front entrance before and after the show. Possibly a few can hook up with 2 shots at seeing the signs.
Abrra
Kizzi..Congratulations to you & your “baby!
And wow..you are going to the Albany concert..Lucky!
I will be meeting my sis in Houston tomorrow for the Jam on Sunday! I am sooo excited! I will take photos & video if I can. We have really good seats..4th row, floor center, right in front of the stage! I told my sis I’m gonna be VERY embarrassed to be surrounded by teens and she suggested I put a purple or black streak through my hair and I’ll fit in..only trouble is, what about the rest of me?? She couldn’t help me there! hahaha!
And Kizzi, you will be going to Atlanta as well right? That will be David’s Jingle finale..May be his best, besides the Albany venue..
So, anyone going to the Northern Lights Jingle Jam in Clifton Park, NY (Albany burb) on 12/10, if you want to meet up, email me your cell number or I’ll email you mine. We can meet after the show in the lobby of the Hampton Inn (my hotel) or we can go to TGIF which is about 2.4 miles from the venue if not too late. Email is: kizzix2008@gmail.com. Oh, and, there is a small chance I could miss the show–other life commitments sometimes intervene at the most inconvenient times!
I just wanted to pop in and say how much fun it was to meet you all in Sacramento (vermeer, davidfanliz, ronaldsf, quiteblanc and everyone else! David’s voice was so beautiful that I just have to listen over and over again to the concert!
Yes, SF – I am going to Atlanta. Taking 12 yo granddaughter as camouflage – LOL! David does do those final shows up something fierce! And, I am a-b-solutely ready for it.
Did you get my email earlier this week about meeting in ATL?
Yes, Kizzi I got your email. Did you not get my reply??
SF – no reply received; send again?
Kizzi #69: “So, anyone going to the Northern Lights Jingle Jam in Clifton Park, NY (Albany burb) on 12/10, if you want to meet up, email me your cell number or I’ll email you mine.” Ditto for me (email: Deb416@gmail.com), and we’re staying at the same place! Pray for dry weather (David has to get there too!!).
Kizzi, just resent my reply..
Kizzi, I already sent you an email.
Kizzi, congrats to your son! That is awesome! And thank you for your niece’s story. Always love a convert story!!
I started writing something long but I can’t finish, drats, and now I have to go. Gotta go home, get changed and go to the company Holiday Party. Maybe try later. See you later…
Hi everyone,
What I find perplexing is how quickly David on a dime can up the ante in each stage of his career. Just when you think its starting to be safe – boom – he goes and does something even better.
For me personally, I grow along with his performances. As great as AI was, except for the finale which was extraordinary, it became harder to go back and watch as his wings began to unfold on tour.
Since his TV appearances and the cd, its been hard to watch tour vids. Then along came the AOL sessions – watching obsessively thinking this is as close to heaven as it gets……
Until Sacramento Jingle Ball – OMG!! That’s all I want to watch right now. Whereas the AOL session songs were picture perfect – David’s performances on the SJB vids are bouncing through the computer screens with a rawness, confidence and zest. It seems everytime we see him he’s placing the bar more and more out of our reach and we are left wondering – what the heck just HAPPENED? – He was right here a minute ago wasn’t he? – LOL!
joymus#78 – YES! He does these quantum leap growth things that are mind blowing!
I work with people who are in high risk and fast learning situations. They have two phases–taking in and taking hold. David is in the taking hold phase. Another thing people in fast learning situations know is that behavior is not equal to their value as a person. So they can turn on a dime, dropping one behavior and adding another instantaneously with the transition of a thought. These are people who learn in joy rather than from pain.
I believe that this is David’s learning style. What a honor and privilege to witness such a beautiful, joyful transformation.
Snarky’s has the most wonderful, beautiful photos of David…A very good way to call it a nite, looking a David so happy doing what he loves, what we all want for him!
G’nite all..And for David, wherever you are tonight..
Dear Lord, Though we are unworthy to ask,
Please take Care Of David. Watch over him, Protect him from all harm. Cloak him with your love and give him the strength to endure all that is thrown in his path. Give David the courage and guidance to say no those who ask for more than he can reasonably give. Surround David with loving and supportive people who love him UNCONDITIONALLY as we, his ARCHANGELS do. SEPARATE DAVID FROM THOSE WHO HAVE AGENDAS OTHER THAN FOR HIS WELLBEING. Give him rest when he’s weary and fatigued. Give him the stamina to sustain his hectic pace. Give him assurance when he feels doubt. Give him joy when he feels sad. Cloak him always in your protective arms. Keep David healthy & strong as he fulfills his Destiny which was written in his Book of Life before he was born.
This, though we may be unworthy, humbly pray. Amen.
Sweet dreams David, be safe & secure in our love always! Take care. You will always be numero uno in our eyes! Thank you for all you do and for just being you!
CONTIGO SIEMPRE CON AMOR!
Love this article, Rascal.
What I find hard to express into words after viewing over and over again his latest live performance, you have so beautifully and eloquently said it here.
I have been blown to smithereens. The audio and visual treat I got from these performances has me in tears and in awe. The transformation in such a short period is startling. I am so proud of David and I have absolutely no doubt of his future mega success.
To be more productive in other activities and responsibilities, I thought I could scale down and wean myself of severe ODD and be still a fan, but now I find myself more entrenched. I just can’t quit him even for a day!
My appreciation again to those here who provide links to many things David and I do enjoy most of the posts here. The eloquent and feisty HG, resourceful JR and Juliebug, and the very enlightened, warm-hearted freak SF, analytical Kizzi and many others, sorry can’t name all. Just LOVE the energy here!
realmusiclover #49 Thanks for bringing this comment over from the YouTube vid. I think that this might just be the kind of impact that David would like to make in today’s world. It would be interesting to know if the commenter “blisskasden ” has been a fan from AI or is a new fan?
Diana #81 It has been a futile exercise for me as well to try to loose my ODD. Pointless really to even try when he brings me so much joy.
vermeer #36. well said. exactly what I think.
I think there is misunderstanding, we advocate David to lift its lid doesn’t mean he has to change his personality. Just like an actor, he plays the bad guy doesn’t mean he IS a bad guy.
I think David is sxxy (not in a consious way, i think i don’t think so if he posed), I can’t deny that because it is a fact, I can’t pretend I haven’t acknoledged, I can’t ignore that also. Don’t complicated my intention, I am a simple person, I just want to embrace anything David shows.
Notice David at Pepsi Smash Performance only picked coloured flowers, he skipped the white ones even they were within his reach.
MCL’s review of David’s CD is up. Of course, it is an excellent review. She so appreciates David’s pure talent and artistry.

awestruck #82,
“blisskasden ” is a regular commenter on David’s vids on YouTube. He/she has been a huge Archie fan; I think from the beginning. I have noticed him/her for a long time.
Rascal – THANK YOU. Love this post. It lured me out of the lurker room. I witnessed “A Star is born” with ronaldsf, Vermeer, np1107, beebee, Mr. beebee, collegemom, janey, Bianca. Sacramento Jingle Ball afternoon and evening will remain in my memory forever. We were very lucky to observe a transformation and milestone.
Dear SF – Your last #108 moved me to tears, opposite of my usual reactions to your posts. I have the same fear and same wishes for dear David.
Roanld – Yes, we HAVE to get the 1st row next time. Please remember we need you to organize Archufanvention for his solo concert.
I have to bring over this other comment left on the original You Tube video of “Works for Me”:
I am sure he is doing work out, look at the contour of his body, molten hot, God pls pacify me to commit sin(s)
haha!!
Joymus #78, just wanted to log in amidst this perpetual night that is law finals and say that I LOVE your post! I’ve loved your comments on YouTube and it’s great to see you here!
So cool!

“OK, you probably know Ryan Tedder, OneRepublic’s frontman. Most Americans know Tedder and his mates as the band that backed David Archuleta on last season’s “American Idol” finale. Sadly, in concert he’s a cold fish, Justin Timberlake without the sexyback. In his pork-pie hat and leather jacket, this wannabe Romeo in black jeans seems more like the bloke who comes to unclog your toilet than a rock star.”
Ouch!

I like this version of WFM because the gal is really enjoying him. She’s singing along and just having a ball…and my favorite part is after its over at about 2:45 she says, “He’s doing so much better! Oh My God!”
haha!
(I worked late, I’m sick with a cold, fell asleep in my chair for about 5 hours and now I can’t sleep…so I’m spamming your blog Rascal. haha!)

I also found out David did a Pepsi Smash Video for Crush?
The kid has never looked more natural and less awkward than he does walking through that flower shop. Wow. Just wow…
Was….was….that a sorta, kinda, maybe a compliment? I might be sicker than I thought. I think my fever has spiked. haha!
David transcends age. I can’t think of many artists who have such a fanbase. Really, I can’t think of any. Every age. I guess true talent does that to people.
Now off to work in a snowstorm..
Nice pictures of David in concert from the radio station site.

Abrra
Betsy #94. I feel the same way. So many journalists like to point out the over-teen fans, as if this is an oddity, and I keep waiting for them to catch on that there’s a reason David’s fan base defies normal patterns.
Juliebug #93. That flower shop video was … different, but I did notice that he handled singing, emoting, walking and choosing flowers rather well. And last night it struck me as sort of creative that the fanbase FIRST saw the picture of David, standing before us with bouquet in hand (as if he’s arrived at our collective front door with his gift) and then saw the video with him singing about his “Crush” as he choose flowers for ‘her’ — us, the fanbase. Or maybe I’m trying too hard. LOL.
Abbra #95, thanks for the link. Soon, my avatar will show up as one from those station pics. Love his look as he sang “You Can” — he tilted his head sideways a bit. I tend to do that when I’m painting or listening to music and really feeling the emotions/imagination.
One of my pleasures in life right now.. sitting down in front of my computer with a cappacinno and catching up!
Love all the links and love shared here!!! Very excited to meet in albany… HG, djb, kizzi, any one else? woot woot!
realmusiclover ,thanks for sharing the quote from blisskasden. David certainly has a natural beauty and sexiness and has no need to exploit it! I think he is the new cool.
Rascal.. “As we begin to see the live performances of his first album effort, it becomes evident that given just a little time for marinating, David can make a feast of almost anything. What are we going to be in for when the serious stuff starts?”…
yikes I am afraid I really will be following him around the country…
#84 Diana. What is the significance of the white flower?
I enjoyed the flower shop video–thought it was romantic!
Juliebug#93, WOAH! Is that the Krinkle Cut who never had a kind word for David?
See, even the non-fans are noticing the transformation… Go David!
The main flaw of that flower video shop is I wish they had used a hidden mic. It’s so distracting the way it’s placed on his face. Sheesh!
And I’m still loving the Archustrut. *blushes.*
Refnaf! Hope to see you in Albany! *prays snow will stay away.*
Seriously, I cannot drive in snow at night – my vision, already challenged by night driving, is severely impaired with night time wintry weather. And I need God to give me all the right signs that I must see David in the flesh.
You guys are killin’ me . . I want to go to a Jingle Jam so bad! Anyway – I love the new phrase – “New Cool” – I think it’s perfect for David. I bet there are a lot of parents out there who are appreciating his example to their teenagers. Wow! What a guy! He’s amazing!
I watched “A Christmas Carol”(1938) last night. Watching brought the “other Mom of David” out. I starting thinking of his dreams and how they are all coming true for him. How thankful he must feel. I’m never really good with words, but, I was wishing him some quality Family time during this season and I also wish the very BEST of everything for him. Whew…there’s a lump in my throat! Bless our David and all our Families now and through the year.
Just re-reading some comments (I tend to miss things) and catching up on the overnighters.
Kizzi #79 I am very curious by nature about these kinds of things. Do you have a background in psychology?
Diana #86 Thanks for that.
Kizzi, I just feel it strange that he did not pick white to add CONTRAST to the bunch he had chosen. As he was just acting for the video, it should not have any significance for him.
Personally, I much prefer the vibrant colours and always subconsciously avoid white flowers, and I have been trying to figure it out why I do that. So when David did that It sort of jolted me. Anyway, that post is by way of mentioning; it is not important.
The flower shop video is sweet, David looks really relaxed in it. And I love flower shops!
#102 awestruck – I have a degree & done some work in the field of Psychology as it relates to human learning and motivation; however, I work in health care on the clinical and business side of surgical services, and, that demands so intensely a deep understanding of intent, of motivation and verbal & non-verbal communication styles–it is a real challenge.
There is some great reads on “Emotional Intelligence” that speak so well to what I think David innately possesses in abundance.
Thanks for asking.
Does anyone know why the flower video was made? I read somewhere that sometimes the label or management has those shorts made to see if the artist has acting skills, to test the waters in another medium.
Cute kid in this brief video. At about :30 he starts playing “Crush” and says “SO GOOD!” I love the way he emphasizes it. He thinks Cook is amazing but that David Archuleta should have won.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pjDMqGV0LvE
Anyway, cute kid and cute comment. I couldn’t resist pointing it out.
olemr2001, what a nice kid, and it was so interesting how he was so sure Archie was better, but couldn’t quite express why at all. David truly is a singer for “all ages.”
Also, it just occurred to me that the head mic in the flowershop video may have been a last-minute change. It is a bit awkward and the director may never have planned for it, thinking he would lipsync to himself – it would be way demanding to ask of any singer to concentrate on singing while ALSO walking to the different spots in the flower shop AND picking flowers AND emoting. But David probably found it harder to lip sync than to sing it straight. And, amazingly, David CAN do it.
Reminds of another person who hated lip syncing: Barbra!! Sorry, just couldn’t go a while without mentioning her.
Btw, the director should’ve used a boom mic (the kind that points down from above and his held with a hand crane).
Kizzi #104 It must be stressful at times. I would appreciate any book title suggestions for me re Emotional Intelligence as well as on verbal-nonverbal communication.
Kizzi – “emotional intelligence.” David does appear to possess this in spades, so mature beyond his years. He really does know what is best for himself. It is truly an amazing thing to witness. Someone else stated his fearlessness, maybe one of his most understated qualities, I think. So many things to admire about this, now, man.
Wow, I hadn’t considered fearlessness. But yes, this describes David. Again, thinking back to a year ago (was it really just a year ago??), last December, when he was singing “Mary Did You Know?” for some church or civic function and speaking shyly to the audience afterwards. Each step from there to Sacramento took an amazing amount of courage. The pendant he used to wear all the time starts out, “Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged…”
#282 in previous thread regarding “objectifying David”
Just to share my thoughts on your thoughts -
This blogging world is an odd duck. I have posted a half a dozen comments on this and various other sites (strictly sites regarding David, I have literally no interest in any others) the last six months that I immediately regretted, as I am sure almost everyone has. Nothing distasteful, just something I personally would never say in a face to face conversation with even a close friend or family member. This anonymity is powerful stuff.
I read through the posts and marvel at the wit, insight, eloquence and analysis; and I try to contribute. And sometimes I try to outwit, out-insight, out-elequent and out-analyze everyone else. Don’t know why.
But I do know, that the families on this and other sights love, admire and have ultimate respect for David Archuleta and for who he is, what he represents as a human being and for his immense talent. I can’t think of another 17 yr old that has had this kind of affect on so many.
I sincerely hope that I have never said anything that would offend David or his family, but I guess it is all relative; and I just think that even if David is somewhat uncomfortable with something, (in the crazy music business there are bound to be many issues) it doesn’t alter his course. He seems to be pretty pragmatic, focused, and sure about where he wants to go. I sure wish I had his moxie when I was seventeen.
I know I’m singing to the choir, but just felt compelled.
Very wonderful, insightful comments, emmegirl08. This whole blogging thing is so new to me, I know I probably do it all wrong . . but it’s hard to hold back when it comes to something I feel so passionately about. (David) I know I am not the oldest fan on this sight, (probably close however), and I am sure I am the least articulate. You all amaze me . . and I am learning. I especially appreciate how Rascal finds a way to bring all things back to David and all that is positive about him. Thanks everyone!
Heck, I can’t even figure out the avitar thinggy!
emmegirl08 – I wholeheartedly agree with your take on the anonymity of the web. I try to take the time to think before hitting the submit button, however, sometimes don’t think long enough. I will make a second comment to try to clarify. What I love about notingDavid is everyone here is non-judgemental and I think realizes that this kind of thing happens. At least this is my take on it. I feel comfortable sharing my thoughts on this website and it continually amazes me that the glue that has brought us all together is a 17 year old young man.
The handle the NEW COOL in regards to David is becoming very apparent I think. He is truly an amazing human being with mega talent and the desire to touch the world in a positive way. I believe he will succeed.
mamasaun – you can keep me company with my avitar!
I know that I can be very silly online myself sometimes. Anonymity is a powerful thing. One of my personal rules for online talking since the early 1990s is that I never respond to a flame directed toward me. I think that miscommunication can get out of hand so quickly online. I’m glad that this is a site where people from all points of view can gather and talk about an artist we are passionate about.
#116 freofan – good rule. Sometimes it is hard to communicate what we are feeling and it is easy for things to get misinterpreted.
#112 mamasaun – I know, David really brings out the passion in people, me included. Here, I can share that and not feel like a have a third eye or something.
#114 awestruck – how cool is it David is the NEW COOL?
Too cool! Thanks to rascal for giving us the freedom to express ourselves and to give us the balance that is occassionally necessary.
Next year I figure out avatars. This month I’m just way too busy attending Jingle Balls.
Great choice of photos, Rascal and i cannot agree more with what you are saying. David simply loves to perform before an audience. He brought it all to Sacramento and he was breathtaking. His minor flaws (none of which were in his voice, let me stress) just made him all the more breathtaking, because they reminded one how early in his journey he really is. He was at once younger and more confident than when I saw him on the AI tour (hooray for no shiny suit!).
I would like you all to now picture beebee seeing him for the first time. I glanced at her a couple of times. I am not sure she blinked once during David’s set. Her jaw on the floor was the only thing holding her upright. David was mesmerizing and a fricking joy machine. He was great. He is great and he will be one of the Greats.
I would like to thank my husband who while not able to attend these concerts with me is giving me 4 Jingle Balls for Christmas. He’s the one who plays David in the car and makes sure David is on here most days. My hubby has always had good taste in music and his support is the best!
{{{bianca!}}} haha! Glad to see you made it home safely. My jaw is still on the floor with the rest of me! I am so grateful for all the great videos that help me re-live what whizzed by sooooo faaaaaast! Your description “Joy Machine” is exactly what I saw/heard/felt on Wed. He most definitely “brung it” and I was thoroughly ZAPPED by the archu_brilliance!
bianca #118 – You are so lucky to have family support. My family thinks I’m crazy. I finally talked my 29 year old son into listening to a couple of David’s songs and his comment was “ok, but only if you admit your addicted!” I think they are ready to have me committed. Yikes! Actually, I think they are just jealous . . they are all performers and I have (and always will be) their greatest fan. They just don’t want to share me. haha
bianca #118-maybe your husband can give a “How to Survive David Archuleta” course? 4 concerts! Is Albany one of them?
Sounds like you guys had a great time and David did his usual “I’m 17 and I’ll blow your socks off again” routine.
beebee-Not sure David’s solo concerts are gonna be long enough, and I quote “David can make a feast of anything.”
awww, rascal. Archie Tees and a mug with SF’s prayer. Thanks!
#108 awestruck. Email me at kizzix2008@gmail.com. Txs
emmegirl, my socks iz HISTORY, baby! lol. You’re right I’m sure it will never be enough and always end too soon. It’s kinda funny—since up til Wed. my only experience with David had been via TV and most overwhelmingly YouTube (and the *replay* ability of it all…) I had the STRANGEST sensation after his Sacto Jingle Ball performances … almost as if I was clawing the thin air right there at the arena for a “replay button” lol. I WANTED MO’! In a *right-this-red-hot-minute!* kinda WAY! LOL! (Pathetic. lol… David, look what you’ve done to me…)
O.M.G. Juliebug! (#90) That X-Factor!!! GUH! Thank You for posting that! What a TREAT! {{{hugggggg!}}}
beebee-lol. I felt that way after the AI concert in SLC. He was gone in the blink of an eye before I even had a chance to process that he was there!
I also was trying to take pictures and video. Bad strategy!
At his solo concert, I am just going to enjoy it and soak it all in. I can’t wait!!
Hi everyone! Am in lurkmode for a while as I am fire fighting stuff in the office so. Three of my co-workers had deaths in their respective families in just a week
So some of us have to work double of everything… All of these while the company prepares its Christmas party and you won’t believe this: at almost 47yo, I AM DANCING HIP-HOP! Am not sure which is giving me more tension — the workload or the hip-hopping, honestly! whew!
Anw, I want you to know am so happy for all of you able to attend the JingleBall and witness David’s many firsts. [BIANCA -- 4 JB's? Any way you can clone your hubby for some angels here
]
I can only imagine how gratifying & confirming to be among angels and co-ODDers while watching the object & subject of our affection in the flesh
So, can I make a huge request? Those of you going to JB by groups or meeting up, can you take group pics of yourselves? It would really mean much to see your faces. It makes reading each others post more substantial like the way I do with SF! Since I saw her in her Hi-Dee! vid, I can picture SF while writing her CRA-ZEH posts here – haha. If you don’t want he pics posted, email them to me ditasy@gmail.com?
KIZZI – loooove you posts as always. I miss “talking to you! Keep ‘em coming please
JULIEBUG – thanks for posting the x-factor vid. I cried when I saw the vid component showing the “wonderwall of stars!” That was soooo great cos right there, front & center, David could see & feel the love! As long as that hunk is happy, am OK. It’s a huge file but highly recommended for viewing
Well, that’s all for me for now. Have to go. HAPPY JINGLEBALLING guys!
Oh one last thing: HAVE YOU VISITED RALCAL’S GIFTSHOP? Don’t miss it! left portion of the navigation bar, right above his gallery
Way to go Rascal!
http://link.brightcove.com/services/player/bcpid1902518672?bclid=1847335599&bctid=3937829001
I don’ think this has been posted. The Sac radio station has a fabulous video of David singing You Can – EXCELLENT audio (minimal screams) and his facial expressions–tender, sensitive and “lid-free.” A page with a video player will load and you have to click on David’s video on the right.
Hey jr4da: Missed you the last few days. Sorry to hear about the issues at your workplace. Whew!
I was thinking we need to mark Sacramento on our calendar in regards to a possible event in our search for the tipping point.
I’ll be sure to take pix of everyone I meet from ND and get to you.
rascal..OMG!! I’m here in Houston at the Marriott, lurking with my sis, and what do I find…A MUG WITH OUR PRAYER!!! I am in tears! That is so awesome! I am so touched..i just don’t know what to say!
My sis is laughing at me cuz I’m speechless! (for a change!)
We’re gonna walk down to the Arena to “case the joint”! It’s just down the street..and tomorrow, hopefully we’ll meet some of the other cra-zeh David fans who are here.
Weather here is nice here!
Peace & Love to you rascal!
Later!

Mary Did You Know?
Silverfox – I love how you say “Our prayer”. We all know it is you and you are sweet to include us.
We are all huddling under the umbrella of your beautiful words. And better for it.
Like I was moved to say before: YOU ARE TOO COOL.
Just have to post this: DA @ the Osmonds concert singing….tadah!!!! MARY DID U KNOW – GAH!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8MubcYZeQe4
juliebug
thanks for the link. David shines. The osmonds are good on their own but add David to the mix and it’s a whole other ballgame.
They are brave to sing with him!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pnUj71u3s8Q
hahaha!
The finale of the Osmond’s Concert singing SILENT NIGHT where David was also called:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u55c77_2EwU
Boy, it’s really interesting to see him performing with a bunch of other male singers. We’ve become so used to observing David’s work against his own watermarks, that when he sings alongside others the difference is just so stark. They are all very good, quite technically proficient, but David is just in a completely different league. I mean, we know this, of course, but to see it by comparison is almost shocking. besty is right — They are brave to sing with him!
Rascal – Amen! and Hallelujah!
David is singing ANGELS at the tree lighting ceremony right now!!! AWWWW…. I miss Angels!
The richness of his voice stands out. I find myself waiting for him to open his mouth. I am greedy and wish that he sang more on this. It wasn’t his show though so it wouldn’t be fair. Now I have to go back and watch him sing it on his own.
bwahahahahaha JULIEBUG! I saw that too but I was laughing so hard I could not post it.
David is sooo funny w/o even trying. You could even hear the chuckles from the audience just by them looking at him and and he wasn’t doing anything yet! Oh my!
joner HOW do you know?
JR – I loved the part where they panned to him, he’s looking around, whistles a little, shrugs his shoulders….and then when it was his turn they all look at him like, pay attention! and he just rang that bell! hahaha! I’m still chuckling.
and he is such a teenager — not standing still, shifting his legs, whistling.. and then that should shrug! priceless
but you could see how relaxed he is – he is at home, after all. I like that.
yup betsy, they are all brave singing with him
Thanks for posting the Osmond vids. LOVE Mary Did You Know — and I need that recorded by David in his more mature voice. The Silver Bells bit was hilarious — I couldn’t stop laughing, either. He’s not a bad actor at all.
that should read shouldER shrug – we posted almost at the same time Julie.yes, yes, yes to all you said
He may be the smallest in that stage, but he has the biggest & purest voice of them all. Hearing along some decently sounding fellas – cos the Osmonds can sing too, right! — his voice, its sterling quality – just floats above the rest. AHH WATTA VOICE!!
betsy #133 – you are so right about how nice it was of SF to “our prayer” – this is just like something David would do.
Almost a year later and people are still watching the Christmas corporate event videos. The lighting is non-existent and still …hundreds of thousands of views. Now that it’s actually December I have an excuse for watching over and over!
AWESTRUCK – Live cellcast at Rickeys
Oh My!
http://www.david-hq.org/photos/displayimage.php?album=344&pos=3
uuuhhhh… I think I like the serious David….
KIZZI #130 – I sure did mark the JB Sacramento in our tipping point saga
I wonder who will sing the anthem at Obama’s inaugural?
In the The 12 Days of Z100′s Jingle Ball, it says:
“David Archuleta owns day five. Check out our exclusive interview with the singer and watch “MSG, NY” tonight and get the secret code for a chance to win Jingle Ball tickets.”
What does “DA OWNS DAY 5″ mean?
The live feed sucks eggs….but he’s sung ALTNOY
and
A Thousand Miles !!!!!!
so far….
Silent Night…. a capella. OMG!
These people are getting an amazing concert at the Tree Lighting. He sang O Holy Night and Angels at M & G
Then ALTNOY and A Thousand Miles! Now Silent NIGht
VIDEOS PLEEEASSSEE
I see that you have changed your header RASCAL
Now why do I know that you would be somehow moved by that pic?
Then he sang CRUSH… Now they are singing happy bday to him! awwwwww
where is everybody?
OK, it was reported that he sang IMAGINE, too.
Wow, that was some concert!
Its a $%^&*( beautiful pic. Gah!
I didn’t hear about Imagine JR. That would be cool though.
From a poster at MJ’s -
Some tidbits from the FOD Dean Kaelin (Archie’s voice coach) chat…
* Someone in the Dean Kaelin chat said that David sang 5 songs at the Tree Lighting, including Crush and Silent Night.
* Dean says ALTNOY is his favorite song in the album.
* He was actually hoping to co-write a song with David, but David was never in his vicinity long enough for that to happen.
* David recorded a total of 30 songs when preparing the CD, including a Spanish version of Crush. There were several he thought that were great but didn’t make it onto the album.
* He couldn’t talk much about how far his daughter has gotten on AI because they had to sign a secrecy contract, despite the fact that a lot of stuff has already leaked into the media.
* Even before he made the top 10, David was already getting offers for a record deal.
My internet home page is AOL and guess what’s staring
me!

Rascal, I am ordering a couple of mugs and using our Prayer as a design on them. Thank you for loving the Prayer for David enough to use it as an example on your “ad”! You are awesome!
I meant STARING AT ME!

No. 2 David Cook & David Archuleta
Though Cook took the crown, American Idol’s seventh season singers–also known as the David’s–both scored big audiences and loyal followings. In the months since, the stars have each spent much time on the Billboard charts, traveled the country on the always-popular Idol concert tour and recently dropped hotly anticipated albums.

I did not think this tree lighting ceremony would be such a big thing. Now I am revising my opinion.
I can’t wait for these videos!
Christmas songs!
Just viewed David singing MDYK..Beautiful! Then I saw David’s photo shoot, and juliebug, you really must WARN US, and not just with an “OMG!”..I think rascal liked them too!
I have to say g’nite all and for David…
This, though we may be unworthy, humbly pray,
Amen.
Sweet dreams David, be safe & secure in our love always! Take care. You will always be numero uno in our eyes! Thank you for all you do and for just being you!
CONTIGO SIEMPRE CON AMOR!
jackryan4DA #127 – I’ll email you a photo of some NDers from the Sacramento lunch.
Bringing over an update from Snarkies: TREE LIGHTING CEREMONIES
MONICA RECORDED IT ALL. BOW DOWN TO THE GLORIOUS MONICA.
Monica said: “OMFG – amazing does even cover it! He sounded so fantastic and his argyle sweater was so cute!”
The crying girl was theeeeere!
He had on brown leather shoes — kinda sneakerish, with white rims — they matched his brown shirt.
The DJ had the crowd sing David happy birthday. Awww.
He sang Imagine because the radio DJ said he had another song to sing — he looked confused, but did Imagine.
He sang Silent Night a capella.
Jeff’s parents were there.
David did the treelighting countdown and took tons of pictures with Santa.
HE SANG IMAGINE!
HE SANG A THOUSAND MILES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Accompanying himself on keyboard, apologizing all the while for not having done it in a while.
He sang Crush and A Little Too Not Over You at the actual performance at the tree lighting.
According to our Snarky reporter, he is attending the Anaheim Jingle Ball after this performance.
David is wearing deans and a brown/tan argyle sweater.
He sang O Holy Night.
Jackie saw Jeff and told him she was with Snarky Archies.
$25,000 was raised. (ed. note: I have no clue what this is in reference to. I’m just posting what Amy tells me to.)
He sang Angels.
Thanks davidfanLIZ!
Does anyone know if he is singing in the Anaheim JB? Wow, I can’t wait to see the videos and hear the audio from tonight (actually, I’ll take either. I always feel so greedy where David is concerned)!
Photos are on Snarky’s now. Oh, Joner, I think we are going to pass out in Chicago if this keeps getting better and better…!
freofan…. eeeee can it get better?

Rascal – Love the new avi even though I’ll always be attached to the Piano Man. I was the first person to comment when you changed over to this new blog format.
I just wanted to say on looking at the Osmond vids – David is in a league by himself especially when you compare it with the new “You Can” vid posted by Kizzi. Was it David Osmond doing the lead vocals on Silver Bells? Though vocally proficient technically – the moment he opened his mouth I recognized the show-boating style of Clay Aiken. I say this with some chagrin because of all the Idols – he was my fav until David. Over the past couple months of listening to David – No one else does it for me. Even my ALL time fav – Josh Groban has slipped to #2.
I can say without a doubt David has re-educated not only our ears but our hearts and minds as well. He has taught us that Music is and should be a mind-heart connection. All at only just 16 ,17, 18? How much more can he teach us? The possibilities are endless….
I still can’t believe he never thought he took good pictures. Doofus.
Dj /Joner – Waaaay Too Funny!!
DJ – Love your idea too.
juliebug~ 176…..Doofus?? ..LOL.!.!

rascal – Love the merch. Love your comment:
“Care to be a bit more discreet about your Archuletalove?” You are a hoot!! I couldn’t help myself, I ordered some stuff.
SF – Have a blast, I’ll be thinking of you and your sweet sister!
juliebug – #176 – LOL. Josie and I call him a goober all the time. But Doofus works, too. Of course, it’s gonna be harder and harder for the adorkable terms of endearment to stick if he keeps doing photo shoots like the one that produced our new banner.
Joymus — Thanks for the nod of approval on the new image (I also deepened the overall color palette, in case anyone was wondering). I love piano man, too, but there’s a new power emerging from David right now and I felt like it was right to reflect that with a slightly stronger visual presentation.
joymus~ I need to talk to Erin about the mug…I think he would really appreciate it….he likes songs with meaning so a mug with special meaning is just right for him…
watch on YouTube for silverfox /Houston video !! haha
hi every one,
New photoshoot pics of swanky David have just arrived.
David wears the suits awfully well!!!
http://huong4david.wordpress.com/2008/12/07/new-pics-amazing-look/
Aww Rascal,
Thank You so much. Believe me – we are all reeling from the emergence of the new power. I also wanted to let you know how much I appreciate the fact that you included SF’s and our nightly prayer for David in your gift merchandise. Will certainly order.
The palette looks great! There is definitely something different about David now, a new power emerging. Do you think that the recent time that he had alone with his mother (long overdue) has anything to do with it?
In MDYK not only is David’s tone unique, rich, and strong among the other singers — you can also hear “soul” in David’s stylizing. What an aural feast!
HAHA! I made my new avitar and I see Rascal like it for the header.
Abrra
Rascal – Did you turn David’s face in the banner around on purpose:) It is difficult to tell because his face is so symmetrical! He usually wears his hair toward his right, not his left. I just remember the picture from the Jingle Ball T-shirt.
With David – everything has to be perfect! haha.
Freo,
I’m intrigued by your comment. What do you mean? Do you feel that Jeff hampers his style a bit?
FREOFAN #170 — According to David’s official site, David will have an appearance at the Anaheim KISS-FM Jingle Ball on December 6th at 9pm.
Didn’t say “performance or performing”. Plus the concert starts at 7pm and the official site says 9pm so the concert is not it.
A Snarky reported this from the Anaheim JB Concert::
“Guys, David is JAMMING with Jeff and Michael Johns. He’s rockin’ out to Single Ladies and Jesse McCartney and Paper Planes.
DA @ the Anaheim JB, in the back by the sound equipment
“”OMG he is so adorable – dancing out to Single Ladies!”
Must be practicing when he performs Let Me Go? Haha
quiteblanc — #188 – Dang it, you guys don’t miss a trick, do you? I wanted his image to be on the right side of the background expanse for the purposes of the layout, rather than on the left as it was in the original, so, I just flipped the entire thing. I’ve corrected it now so that his part is on the correct side. Oh my heck that ODD doesn’t quit!
Thanks for the fix of the banner Rascal. It was buggin’ me that you’d flipped it but….he still looked good, so heh. haha!
Also, Uh Oh! David had moved to the front to watch the Pussycat Dolls. haha!
“OMG he just walked by me and said hey. Took a pic with MJ but David was too mobbed. He’s up front now watching Pussycat Dolls.”
Guys, take note, he moved to take a closer look at the pussycat dolls! ahahahahaha… David… David….
I’ll bet he’s having the time of his life watching the Dolls with that stop in the middle of You Can – grin – LOL!!!
Dancing to Single Ladies?!? OMG that’s f#@&ing brilliant. Well, you know, he was on the Bonnie Hunt episode with Shane Mercado. I mean, of that guy doesn’t inspire you to lose your inhibitions, nothing will!
RASCAL #193 – thanks for fixing the banner pic
. When you flipped the graphics and not adjusted his image, I thought you did it on purpose! Thanks quiteblanc for clarifying it
You won’t get any complaints whichever angle of this boy is shown
#152 refnaf
I love ‘seroius’ david as well. Back in the photo shoot in Brooklyn……. near the end he is standing beside the photographer and the photographer is taking a snapshot of them, he tells David “seroius!” and David’s face just morphs from a grin to a serious focused stare. Love that face.
#131 SF You have arrived my dear! what an honor to have your prayer, forever remembered! Imagine Lupe and Jeff having a morning cup of java! I know I will be ordering mine asap.
Abrra
I read somewhere that the plan is to try to perform all the album trax during the JB concert. So at one point am sure he will sing the most anticipated #s — SOT, Let Me Go, TBWY, Desparate, and YEDL.
I hope he does TBWY on piano. let’s see if he picked up some grooves from Single Ladies for his Let Me Go. Haha
ALWAYS, something to look forward to with this artist:)

Ooopps!
The first one I posted was O Holy Night
RASCAL — i also like the way David’s pics are now positioned. More balanced and have some blank space for breathing.
Also noticed that if the David of the pic the main thread is moved slightly to the left, it would look like he is handing the mic to David of the “power pose” above.

O Holy Night!!!!! OMG
1000 Miles – He looked like he was having fun singing this one. Confident piano playing. I love it that he is playing these old songs.
WARNING. OK, this is a killer. Pls take a sit before clicking. Don’t say I didn’t warn you
http://i104.photobucket.com/albums/m168/shortie_luv86/CIMG6174.jpg
Has leaving AI’s management meant that he is now able to sing all the old songs again? Cause I’m lovin the new variety!
I listened to Rickey’s cellcast and this is what gets me, ALL THE TIME with David:
A lot of singers today, who even sell millions mind you, sound like crap in the studio with all the effects and big fancy equipment.
Take an old, crappy cell phone, stand way in the back, hold it up and record, and David still sounds goose-bumping-hair-in-your-neck-standing glorious.
Now, THAT is talent and THAT what should be celebrated i=by any award giving body existing IF you are into MUSIC – business or otherwise.
it’s hard to keep breathing these days. sheesh! JackRyan, that pic, guh! Ronald, omg, the O Holy Night… stunning.
Really, loving them ALL. But I really hope we get a complete “A Thousand Miles”… that was almost cruel that cut-off at the end.
lol jackryan, I was just telling somebody a few minutes ago, even with the ratty cell casts I get chills…
#218 jackryan4DA – amen brother!
Beebee – I think we will get tons of vids. There were a lot of Archies there tonight.
He apparently sang “Imagine” and “Crush”, too. Hoping to see those vids as well. (Sigh)
Ok…have to come out of lurkdom for this one…Just drove home to San Diego from what will be probably the best David appearance I will ever have. I was at the Tree Lighting and the only way I can describe it is to picture David sitting at a piano in your living room and you are standing oh, about 6 feet away, listening to him sing Angels at the piano and then the most moving rendition of O Holy Night I have ever heard in my 55 years!!! Talk about up close and personal. THEN, he goes out to the plaza for the tree lighting and sings five more songs, including Imagine. Imagine that… It was almost beyond comprehension. My strongest observation was the power, resonance and stability of his incredible voice. Perfect in every way. I’ve been to the Jingle Ball in Sacramento, the AI tour in San Diego and the Bonnie Hunt show. All spectacular in their own way but not even close to this experience. Also got a chance to meet his adorable grandparents…what a treat! When I saw them after the VIP reception in the audience for the tree lighting his grandfather said to me “Don’t go anywhere, David is coming back out to sing Imagine!” Would I go anywhere? Not in a million years!! What a great night…
Do not ask me what I’m doing up at practically 2:AM – but these performances are just too much. I have to say – that I cannot put into words that O Holy Night performance. I am not Christian, and don’t usually listen to fairly religious Christmas songs, however, when David sings anything, I listen. That was one for the books, probably one of the best performances I have ever heard. I am teary eyed. Now I have to finally go to bed. Goodnite all.
beebee, seems like there were many cameras ready to point and shoot that night, so I think we’ll see the full “1000 Miles” eventually. OHN had someone’s video cam in the frame LOL
I feel like I’m going to listen to OHN over and over and over…
Perhaps it was because the camera was shaky, or perhaps not – but the way David delivered ALTNOY was THRILLING. He turned it into something more intense and immediate.
Hit single baby!
msd, welcome from lurkdom!! If you don’t mind I’m reposting your comment over at IDF
beebs..not the best audio but it is complete…
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Niam8svQa3k
No problem…Saw you at Sacramento but unfortunately didn’t get a chance to chat. Did see lots of folks from the luncheon before Jingle Ball in Sac. at the tree lighting.
Hi everyone, I haven’t posted in a while, but I just had to share about the VIP Reception and LA Tree Lighting ceremony I attended tonight. What an evening – 7 songs! It is amazing how perfect David is when he performs live. I’ve seen him perform at the AI Tour, the Jay Leno taping, and the Bonnie Hunt taping. But, while those where great performances, tonight’s transcended them and took them to the nth power. The YouTube videos really can’t do them justice.
Tonight was also the night that I finally felt the full impact of the “David Archuleta experience.” It happened during the VIP reception when he sang “Angels” and “O Holy Night.” When others have shared about extraordinary experiences they’ve had hearing David sing, I’ve understood because I have other reference points from which to draw. Tonight, though, I had my own extraordinary experience and am anxious to describe it for you, as best I can.
The indoor setting at the venue was very intimate. There were no more than 250 -300 people in the room. Most of the fans were standing, gathered in front of the small elevated platform that served as the stage. I had a great vantage point, no more than 15 feet away from David. David didn’t have a fancy stage nor a back-up band. For “Angels”, he accompanied himself on the keyboard. For “O Holy Night”, he sang to a track. And . . . he was breathtaking!
Just so you know, I was very calm during his set. I hadn’t had any alcohol, I wasn’t having a fangirl moment, I wasn’t having an adrenalin rush, and I wasn’t having an endorphin high. But, I was having a profound experience. From the moment he began to sing “Angels”, my body began to vibrate. I am not exaggerating here. The hairs on my head and on my arms stood up. I was holding my cell phone and I had to steady my hand from shaking. I felt tears on my face, but I wasn’t crying per se. It was as if my eyes were ‘leaking’ from an overflow of joy and gratitude. I was not concerned nor was I surprised. It was more of an ‘oh, here it is’ kind of moment.
I know what it was, because I’ve experienced it before (usually in a church or other spiritual setting). It was the strong presence of Spirit in the room. It really blew my mind. I could FEEL the love in the room! And, I could see David centered in it. The Greeks have different words for different types of love. I’d have to pick the word ‘Agape’ to describe what I felt.
You know, there is no substitute for personal experience. I am grateful to have been fortunate to be in the presence of greatness tonight. And, this is not to put David on a pedestal. I think he is an amazing hologram – being different things for different people. And, I believe that one of his many gifts is his ability to help people open their hearts. I know he did with me. Thank you, David.
I enjoy all aspects of David’s journey as an artist. And, I’m sure we’ll hear some really fun accounts of the Jingle Balls. I just wanted to add my story to the mix.
Oh yes, a star is born!
a better Oh Holy Night….
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2d6hHb8-cA0
Monica of Snarkies got the WHOLE & COMPLETE performance of David at the Tree Lighting. She is just at the Anaheim JB concert cos she thought David would be performing there. So am sure she will be able to upload by tomorrow.
But she was the witness to the grooving and dancing that David & Michael John & Jeff did to Jesse Mccartney, Paper Planes, Pussycat Dolls & Single Ladies. Now if only she was able to get footages of those- tee-hee
Someone posted this at IDF that had me LMAO:
“This is like one of the best nights ever
now all we need is the ALTNOY video to leak
and we will all die for real”.
ronaldsf – Yes, ALTNOY was powerful in this video, almost psychedelic with all the shakiness and streaking lights.
And msg – HEY! It was so nice to meet you at the Sacramento lunch.
And not to take anything away from the videos, but my experience is that the nuances and subtleties of David’s voice don’t all come through in the videos. We need to listen to the videos, enjoy them, and then realize that there was a lot more to hear in the live performance.
kindredspirit – Wow. What a moment for you.
gosh, and I thought I was going to bed. ha! Janey thank you!! And ronald we are just spoiled brats with all the vids since the AI finale, aren’t we. I expect multiple, stellar vids of ALL of these performances…lol.
And wow, msd comes out to share and kindredspirit! yay!
ok… on to better Oh Holy Night
Whimper….
I think I need to change my screen name. Hi DavidFanLiz! It’s MSD (not msg from the Chinese kitchen! haha!) Great meeting you too. Wish you were in LA with us. You are so right about the sound. I could not get over how pure and resounding his voice is. It really was like having your best stereo speaker playing to you…but it was real. I think it was the fact that we were so close to him with no other interference. It’s going to be hard to top this appearance… Maybe a performance in my living room………..
Are you ready for SILENT NIGHT a-capella?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D6VDxXUkmEM
Janey, the better OHN is just breath-taking. Better video, better sound. Chills.
Oops, MSD – I knew that. I’ve been making mistakes all evening – I must be tired. I really really wish I could have been there. What a night for you!!
CRUSH

JR – The Silent Night vid needs a “scream warning”. haha!
I’m tired too… Flying down the 5 at 80 mph listening to David for two and a half hours is fun but now that I am home I’m ready to call it a night… and what a night it was! Plus my cat is sprawling on half of my keyboard!! Ciao!!
have we seen this one yet? ALTNOY from jwipe (who gave us the “better” O Holy Night)

David has just added another weapon to his arsenal. He will kill us all…

KINDREDSPIRIT – what a thrill to read experiences such as yours. I have not seen David perform live and have been living vicariously through you guys. That’s why am thankful for the incredible generosity of fans who could not even wait to post their videos or unselfishly share their stories, like you have.
I mentioned this in the previous thread — that we are building something here. And as the back-up single from AI said, whenever David sings, you get a sense that something great is happening. Many miles away, to me that greatness means exactly what you have said, opening one’s heart to something true and pure. Not many people can do that.
We are indeed blessed to experience this. One day soon, I hope to get a taste of it 1st hand
Thanks again for sharing
whimper…..
lol… ronald… dang… i shall NEVAH SLEEP!
beebee..why would you want to?
lol… juliebug, you hath sacrificed yourself on the archu_altar tonight, faithfully bringing jewels to rascal’s for all of us (along with JackRyan) and now it hath reduced you to a little puddle’o'whimper…lol. What a way to go… we need more than paddles, we need a gurney, too… for juliebug.
lol, Janey, bcz I’M E..X..H..A..U..S..T..E..D … lol. But othen than that… hey…
ronald… I’m throwing that 1:04 – 1:05 nano-neck-second into the vault with the highly prized Shop Around Head Bob… lol… that there is some lethal stuff
jwipe’s “Crush”
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YMJ52f0JfWU
jackryan4DA, yes we are all indeed blessed. That O Holy Night is just a beautiful gift from David.
awww… adorable. he’s so relaxed now with Crush… he’s like yakkin’ with audience WHILE singing it… sheesh! Once again, SMOKIN’!
Another version of 1000 miles, not sure if it’s been posted.
There’s one funny part where you can hear this guy say “he’s just a little boy but he’s got a big voice …”
)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UfPKGiIlBVk
lol…”he’s justa little ole boy…”
Here I am sitting in my little neck of the woods in Brooklyn, watching videos of a child/man I have yet to have had the pleasure of seeing face to face and am having the most remarkable night just reading about the joy that he brings his fans.
I too, am not a Christian, yet his O Holy Night still allows me to share in his love of God. How wonderfully powerful is that?
Imagining him dancing his little booty off with the very naughty Michael Johns, to the Pussy Cat Dolls, no less has me all kinds of lmao! I just love the thought of him having this special night. And he’s enjoying the whole experience. I am so grateful for that.
David needs to trust his piano playing more. He’s quite good. I guess that will come, but his 1000 miles was well done. Very well done indeed. ALTNOY is going to be bigger than Crush. Mark my words.
Off to listen to Silent Night.
Thanks to all who have shared their experiences with those of us who haven’t had the chance yet. It means more to me that I could ever express.
brooklyndawn – Yes, that is exactly what he does to me too. I listen to OHN and I can share in his love of God and I am transported.
must….go…..to….bed!!
NINAF — that’s the beauty of music. It transcends all boundaries – be it nationalities, religion and other types of persuasions. It is universal.
And with a VOICE like David, it could be the most powerful form of communication.
Another thing I noticed since I had such a close vantage point to David. He really makes eye contact when he is singing. For some performers that might break their focus, but David lasers in and locks eyes. He doesn’t look at your forehead, or scan above heads and look at the exit signs at the back of the room. He looks you dead in the eye – ‘dead’ being the operative word.
I’m having some good chuckles at the whimpering tonight. It really is a joyous evening. I’m happy to share it with all of you.
It’s 2:00 am and I can’t quit watching! He seems so engaging and open and free tonight. He is like this eternal flower that just keeps blooming more and more and more!
Sweet dreams to all, after OHN I am sure we will all sleep quite peacefully tonight.
lol… liz… i was just saying to myself (with head ON KEYBOARD) … must … go .. to .. bed… but then I think… “but he sang Imagine tonite…”
kondredspirit…
I was unable to sleep so I quietly slipped into the livingroom and found the pc…I loved your story and know the feeling that you have described,,,something so very special about him..Hope that he will be alright when many, many more realize how special he is because there wull be so many around him…
I felt that special moment in Toronto when he rose up in the fog to sing Angels…When my husband tells family here at home that David was amazing then amazing becomes a huge word.
..
Sometimes I wonder where he came from and wonder if some of us are blessed to feel such a presence…perhaps we are ones very sensitive to his spiritual presence…
IMAGINE!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kdzFjNNuWPg
Awww….you beat me Beebee…
hehehe I rhymed. haha!
Oh my heavens to holy nutterbutters in a handbasket. Worth WAITING FOR.
And NOW, I’m going to bed. Nitey nite all!
awww… juliebug LIVES! I was in a big rush. Gotta go to bed… and sleep fast…lol

Better version of Silent Night. The screaming’s actually not bad at all in this one:

Someone needs to tell him ALTNOY has been pushed to January. LOL!

There are two more pictures up from the same photog as the new banner.
jr4Da#253, thanks, you have just spoken for me (for all the international fans actually).
We are so appreciative and grateful to these people who sacrificed their sleep to bring us the latest.
Oh my Gosh, OHN and 1000 miles are so incredibly remarkable. ALTNOY is going to be a mega hit I am sure. And now I have just viewed the link to “Imagine” thanks to beebee, and as I am typing this more links have just been posted. This “Imagine” is the best I have heard and no screaming until the song ended! What a treat!
Santa and the presentator seem to have a crush on David too!
Holly Mackerel, I thought AOL sessions were amazing, then came the JB Sac performances when I thought I had died. Now this LA Tree Lighting Ceremony…..how could David keeps getting better by leaps and bounds and within a few days! I am dead!
Juliebug#281, dare I say SMOKIN?
You better get some sleep. I am going to cook dinner; its passed dinner time. Thanks!
There is something different with David now.
His performances, his interviews — I find him quite… relaxed, for lack of a better term. I dunno. The way he approach the mic, the way he waves, his walks… something is different. It is not only confidence. It is something else that I cannot put a finger to it yet. Even his serious poses have an air of authority in them.
I like it.
In previous pics, I get a feeling that he is posing. Don’t get me wrong – his previous photo shoots are all great in that drop- dead-gorgeous-heart-melting-&-knees-buckling kind of way.
But lately, the pics like the ones posted by JULIEBUG #281 – his eyes, his lips & the way his jaws are set – his got that knowing look and looks comfortable in it. Like there is this acceptance? acknowledgment? ownership? finally?
Perhaps he is coming to grips that this is now his reality and not just a someday-my-dream-will-come scenario To experience 1st hand the joy he is able to generate by simply doing what he likes to do must be affirming. It is a far cry to read letters, hear stories. But to see his actual impact on people – must be validating.
It also comes at an opportune phase in his life. He said it himself, turning 18 is huge. Am sure he will remain his dorky self because highly creative people never lose their child-like qualities. But something is ticking inside and it is doing him a lot of good.
I suppose, growing up becomes David Archuleta.
kinderedspriit and msd – thanks so much for sharing your experiences. Looking through your eyes brings great joy to me, the next best thing to being there.
Thanks to all the ND night shift posters (well its night to me-LOL). I have so much to listen to and read today. Just listened to OHN and I am still on a natural high.
SF – I know you will have the time of your life in Houston. Can’t wait to hear back from you. And the mug with your prayer will make great Christmas present paired w/David’s CD. In fact, I was able to buy his CD thru Newberry Comics with a signed liner so I will pair that with the mug and probably add a pack of hot cocoa for X-mas giving. Life is GOOD!
The ND commenters astound me in their ability to manage eloquence when they must obviously be big puddles of mush, as I am.
I gave up on the cell cast last night and went to bed, hoping David did well but without any clue.
And this morning I find out he was even more stunning than before. I suspect we have more people here, lurking but incoherent. I am also amazed at the transformation taking place. Some of what always appealed to me about David is that he is so able to convey the meaning in a song — but the innocence was also prevalent.
I’m not saying that is gone … but there is a greater confidence that is SO attractive.
I started to list favorite videos last night, but I’d have to list all of them, honestly. He was briliiant. That performance of “Imagine” left me crying. David is beautiful.
Can’t wait to see the vids of him rocking out to the music of others.
from last night, I meant. and brilliant. And … oh well. I know you’ll excuse my mistakes. Hard to even be grammatical after gahhing at David.
Okay, I’m here alone, spamming, but I had an idea. That Oh Holy Night was divine — I’m going through my e-mail list and sending it to my favorite people as an early Christmas gift. Everyone should have the opportunity to receive this joy.
Kait – YES to everything you said…I am in a state of hyper-gratification!
His confidence is evident; as rascal said in his post above, he has married the previously disparate parts of his artistry–the voice with the entertainer/performer. Sheer brilliance and in its early stage, at that! I thnk realmusiclover said it too in his post above that he is bringing a new type of music, a new performance standard and that will be the new bar in music.
I think it was rascal who coined the phrase a “new cool” a while back. There was also discussions months ago of his courage and fearlessness–although, I would more state it as he faces his fear and does it his way!
The USA Weekend (that little 24 page newsprint insert that comes in some Sunday newspapers) has a question about David plans and the answer was interestingly enough, acting citing the iCarly stint. It is in their feature “Who’s News” on page two. My hubby brought it to me very excited and said “David has arrived!” (LOL – for hubby, that page is who is BIG or has been BIG in the entertainment world.)
You can read the blurb on David on line at: http://www.usaweekend.com/08_issues/081207/081207whosnews-celebs-birthdays.html
Good morning all! In the words of Silverfox, WHAT…JUST…HAPPENED?
This is what I get for hanging out all day and all night without checking online to see what’s the latest David news. I missed these incredible moments as they unfolded!
No worries…better late than never!
First, Kindredspirit, thank you, thank you for those profound words. I read your post after watching many of the videos, and putting your words in the context of what I had just witnessed (albeit via You Tube) made me cry.
And to some extent, I’m like Juliebug here: “whimper.”
I look at David with so much awe here and anticipate what it will be like seeing him LIVE.
So, these are my thoughts about David’s recent Hollywood performances.
If there is one word I would use to describe David, it would be: INTENSE.
When was the last time we watched a performer thrust his entire body into a performance when he sings? He delivers such an embodied performance, the way he uses his hands, his eyes, the way he places his hand over his gut when reaching for certain notes. It’s not just his voice, it’s everything.
KS, no wonder your body vibrated when in such close proximity with David. Just looking at him, it’s like he’s opening up his body – surrendering it, using it as a vessel to be filled with a higher power —> love, music, power, spirit.
Simply breathtaking.
And his vocal wisdom, not even just vocal intelligence. David is already worthy to be placed among the pantheon of greats – and I’m not talking Elvis or Michael Jackson. I’m talking VOCAL giants —> Billie Holiday, Barbra Streisand, Frank Sinatra, vocalists who just had a style all their own that so many others try to copy but could never live up to.
David already has his own style. I am by no meanings overpraising or deifying him. I’m recognizing that he’s got vocal wisdom that not many singers have.
So, let me contrast David with another American Idol contestant. During Season 5, another 17 year old by the name of Paris Bennet delivered what many still consider to be the best AI audition ever. She just threw down on two different songs – one from the Dixie Chicks and a jazz classic. Her voice was phenomenal and the kind that God blesses you with (very much like David).
During the course of the competition, she went downhill. Not because her singing got worse: her vocals were still spot on. But it became instantly clear that she didn’t know what to do with such a beautiful voice. Her age and her eagerly bloated head indicated to me that she was too young to be thrust into the limelight and was simply immature without the vocal intelligence required when showcasing her lovely voice.
By contrast, David showcased his voice beautifully. Like Paris, he too is already blessed with a phenomenal voice (functioning on one vocal chord, I must again repeat here – to remind us of the miracle that is David), but he knows what to do with it. God gives you a head start, the rest is up to you. And I’m absolutely just blown away that, at his age, with no pretensions, complete sincerity and humility, he brings it in every performance.
He knows just when to soften his tone, when to trumpet out a triumphant note, when to hit certain low and high notes, it’s just so incredible how he gets music and, specifically, how he gets what the power of song is.
I saw a movie last night featuring his idol, Tamyra Gray, and I’m just tickled that her “diva” style (read: soul style) singing introduced to an 11 year old David what it means to inject emotions and feelings into singing. I’m tickled because Tamyra has so much to learn from David quite honestly.
I believe Tamyra and other singers like her have gotten caught up in the performativity of soul singing – they work hard at imitating the Arethas, the Billies, and the Whitneys. Young David recognized the style and imitated it in his early years. But, at 17, he’s not appropriating soul singing. He’s embodying it. He’s bending it to fit him and his worldview. His influences (Daddy’s jazz appreciation, Mommy’s Latin roots, the current pop music that he listens to) have given him a musical language, and like every promising young author, he gets that his job is to not imitate, but to draw from this deep well of influences and find your own voice.
And boy does he ever!
We are so blessed – despite current economic woes and global insecurities – to be living right now and experiencing the rise of a new kind of star.
So, I sit back and watch and listen with wonder. And know that God is real when I listen to someone like David sing.

Something else that has happened for me after the Jingle Jam and tree-lighting experiences? I feel that I’ve let go of some of my animosity toward Mr. Cook. I always knew it was my problem — David has led his fans in how they should react to his older buddy — but I still had trouble (partly because of Cook’s response in interviews and partly because some of Cook’s fans are still behaving rudely.)
But after seeing David shine in these videos? I know he’ll be fine. I don’t need to check anymore to see how they compare in sales or in crowd reaction or in anything. Whatever happens to Cook and for Cook, ‘our’ David will be fine.
What a relief!
HG As always, a thought-provoking and eloquent comment, especially your idea of his “embodied performance.” You describe it so well: “Just looking at him, it’s like he’s opening up his body – surrendering it, using it as a vessel to be filled with a higher power —> love, music, power, spirit.”

#294 Kait – Cook who?
I’m having a glorious morning here catching up on all of David’s performances yesterday. When I heard this version of O Holy Night, I was just stunned and I KNEW I would open this site and Rascal would have a new post up highlighting this masterpiece. I’m in awe like the rest of you. Every note, flawless.
Rascal, like you have been chosen to blog about David, I feel that I have also been chosen to feel David so deeply. It is one of the greatest gifts I have ever been given. It is hard for anyone not to like David, but there is a subset of his fans that are the lucky ones that connects with David at their very core. Who can describe how glorious this feels? I have no doubt that it is a gift…for what we may have suffered, for a cross we may have carried, for a wrong we have righted, for having given of ourselves with nothing expected in return.
We have been rewarded. For all I have endured in my life, I know why I was chosen. Do you? Why are you one of the lucky ones? Why has this gift been given to you?
Crying here. Just…from all the amazing.
David is love.
