Archuleta Family Gift Basket

Donations are now closed.
Most of you know that I don’t tend to initiate or participate in fan-driven efforts and projects, but there is a time of year for such gestures, and this is it. For 2008 especially, I think it behooves us to offer a small token of acknowledgement and appreciation to the Family Archuleta for bestowing upon a grateful world their son, whose presence has made a multitude of lives both deeper and brighter.
I have already made arrangements for a gift from “the Community at notingDavid.org” to be delivered personally to the family at their home. My intention is to build a custom basket from Dean & DeLuca based on how much money we raise by a week from today, Tuesday, December 16th. I will personally pay for expedited shipping.
Below you will find a donation form, which is connected to my PayPal account. You do not need a PayPal account in order to contribute. I have slated a default amount of $5.00. You may give any amount.
Use the comments field to compose a brief note to the Archuleta family, to be included as part of the package.
If you wish to remain anonymous in the gifting, simply leave the comments field blank. If you want your real full name to be included in the gift, please send me a note through the contact form.
All monies will go to the cost of the gift, and you can see a running total as soon as donations begin to accrue. I will email a receipt for the gift to any contributor who requests it. Click in for the donation form.
Happy Davidays!
Update: I have disabled the Recognition Wall pending information on how to disable just the amounts. I am also hearing that some folks want their comments to be private as well, so I’ll see if I can make that an option also. In the meantime, all your comments and information is still archived, and I will continue to receive all submissions.
Total donations from notingDavid members:
[donatetotal]
Of course, mine was the last comment on the last thread… oh well.
Thank you for doing this Rascal. I often think of his mother and siblings and wonder how they are doing with the huge changes they are having to contend with. It will be interesting to see if any of the other kids follow David into the music business. It certainly appears that Daniel has some real talent and I wouldn’t be surprised if the girls do as well!
Thanks rascal for this lovely idea. It is deeply satisfying to think of this gift on their doorstep.
- Perhaps the basket could include a mug with SF’s prayer.
dfLiz: SF’s prayer mug – so beautiful – what a great idea!
rascal, Is there a way to just list the names without the total per person?
Liz — I’m looking into it. Makes sense.
Rascal, thanks so much for providing this opportunity (and also for disabling the comment/donation wall.) So often on the internet world, I jump right into things with no idea about what I’m doing. But I am glad to be a part of this.
Okay, even though I refrain from getting all OMG on the cuteness factor, even I have to admit that this is one of cutest gosh-dangest pictures I’ve ever seen.
Yep. One of the cutest for me, too. Big sigh.
Yep, that picture has had me in its relentless grasp all day today – LOL.
David may be the new cool (by the way I saw a Sinatra piece on TCM and he was credited with defining the new cool way back when) AND he is also….
…the new CUTE, ADORABLE, SWEET…can’t decide which one!
…gush, gush, gush…tis the season for it, I guess! Maybe I need a trip to the ER as I am overdosed in cuteness! GAH!
hahahaha! I think “cutest gosh-dangest” pretty much sums it up! LOVE IT!
Ok, my annoying “literal_brain” needs to double check this, rascal. If I UNcheck “put my donation on the recognition wall” will my comment and name show but my donation amount be invisible? (That’s what I was going for — no mention of money — only greeting and my name)
beebee — all the public displays have been disabled, so nothing will show. I have submitted some requests to the plugin programmer to see if there is a way to better customize the display elements. Until then, nothing is public except the running total.
At such time as we may have more display options, I will let everyone what, if anything, will be made public (the amounts will not be public regardless, and we are hoping to have the comments be optional by the user).
That photo..does David realize what he did? He doesn’t like having his cheeks pinched..well now he’s gonna have to duck the “David, let me help you do your warm-ups”, haha!
rascal..Great idea! The gifting for the Archuletas! And I will definitely want to be a part of it..are you kidding me!
But I would like my comment to be private if possible, so
I’m hoping you can make that an option.
Thank you, rascal. Literal_brain satisfied.
silverfox — everything is private now except the total. Chances are we will just keep it that way.
The gift basket: what a lovely idea! Things haven’t been easy for the family this year in some ways, so this will be a nice gesture from one segment in the fan community.
Am I correct that HG, ToFan (and other Canadian posters here), and others have either seen David this morning or this evening in Albany?
Freofan – TOFan and refnaf saw him in Toronto this am at Chum FM and they are now going to the Buffalo concert tonight. Just heard from them and they are supercharged from the Chum FM interview/concert.
Albany is tomorrow night.
Kizzi, thanks for the info! Joner and I are going to the Chicago concert next week. We are super excited!
HDD results final and David sold 54k albums last week for a total of around 369k; about 131k away from gold!!
This has to be the best, most articulate interview David has given. He has such an open, positive attitude and a thirst for learning.
http://www.snarkyarchies.com/2008/12/another-anaheim-jb-interview.html
Maelie..That interview kinda reminded me of the DC FOX interview when David was allowed to talk and talk he did, with no mundane questions or interuptions. Great interview!
Maelie..That interview kinda reminded me of the DC FOX interview when David was allowed to talk and talk he did, with no mundane questions or interuptions. Great interview!
sorry about the double post!
Awww…Rascal…what a great idea! I already contributed and am so happy, proud and honored to sign my name as a member of your community.

JUST REPORTING THAT BUFFALO IS OFFICIALLY IN LOVE WITH DAVID ARCHULETA!!! TONS OF SCREAMS FROM THE AUDIENCE!!
sorry..I meant MARLIE…
Did you notice when he started talking about his fans, you could see & almost feel the love & appreciation for his fans in his expression and tone of voice?
David seems alot more “talkie” tonight. Man…he is really getting the screams! He’s singing ALTNOY right now.
Silverfox #25 That’s exactly what I was thinking – his whole face lit up. I also loved it when he was talking about working with the song-writers and such and how they all work differently and he’s learning what he likes, what works for him. Smart guy!
David is singing “A Thousand Miles” tonight!! The crowd is going crazy and not letting him talk.
OMG!!!! He is singing ATM in concert!!!!! The crowd is going absolutely NUTS!!!!!!
What a great idea for this holiday season! Bravo, Rascal!
OK, gang, I’m in a bit of a weird mood tonight, and I’m going to go offline to avoid any concert/David news. I’m building myself up for tomorrow. I don’t know how to describe it, but I want to go into tomorrow night’s concert without any preconceived expectations (ones that haven’t already been formed since I first laid eyes on David back in February). I don’t know how to describe this antsy anticipation, but it’s like…I’m really trying to brace myself for the first time I see David LIVE tomorrow.
Oh dear. Sigh.
(Butterflies in my stomach, I kid you not! What is this feeling?)
*Will hopefully report back here post-concert.*
I think is it soooo interesting that Jive is “letting” him sing a song that is not on the album!
I wonder if he’s singing ATM at a baby grand or at an electric piano….baby grand would be AWESOME!!!
I am literally CRYING hearing the screams for him tonight. Absolutely UNBELIEVABLE!
Crush!!
FREO – Pack the paddles for Chicago. I am dying here!
Oh Come All Ye Faithful!!!!
He is singing a Christmas song: “O Come All Ye Faithful!”
OMG!!!!!
He’s singing O Come Al Ye Faithful!
Joner, you bet!!
SCREAMS!!!!! DAVID!!!!!
I need videos!!!!!
Holy CACA, I feel like I’ve been through the ringer!! Even with the bad audio you could tell it was a phenomenal performance! I am BURSTING with pride!!!
Joner..David sang ATM on a PIANO??
What live feed were you on, Joner?
OMG that cellcast! OMG! Oh what a SPECTACULAR show that had to be. I mean the freakin CELLCAST nearly KILLED ME!
HG If you’re still here… if my experience was any indicatioin, you’ll be a blithering idiot after the show. Could take WEEKS to find your articulation skills again. (WORTH IT, however…)
SF – They were cellcasting at Snarkies. Bad audio, but still…OMG!!
Silver, I was listening to the snarky cellcast. Rickey cellcasted too, tho.
Joner, how could a ratty ole cellcast GRAB ME BY THE THROAT AND NEARLY KILL ME like that! lol
Hey Everyone!
Just wanted to share my special day/ evening/night of my birth. It was a wonderful gift just to hear sooo many songs from David. I just want to say personally that I have enjoyed conversblogging with everyone on this site. It has given me tremendous JOY to share this experience of love with David with all of you. I am also thankful that David has chosen in his own little way to remind everyone of the reason for the season whether you believe or not, by singing carols. With everything going on in our economy and people not having enough to spend this year, it sure causes us to regroup and focus on what is really important this holiday season – family and friends.
Thank You Rascal for providing us with this forum to express our thoughts and feelings about one SPECIAL GIFT we all received this year – DAVID JAMES ARCHULETA!
Actually, the reason the audio was so bad was because the crowd was screaming so loud that it actually buzzed out the audio on the cell phone!!!
Sounds like he wore the same outfit he had on at CHUM this morning except he put on a t-shirt with it instead. Ford jacket, t-shirt, jeans with scarf around his neck.
You are SOOOOO dapper Mr. Archuleta!!

Have you all seen that David’s Life Story magazine over at FOD? No one knows if it’s legit or whether it’s authorized by David’s mgmt. But it sure has some delicious photos of David that I have never seen before ..and they look very recent..here’s one..
http://fansofdavid.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/12/life-story-picture-5-
He sang SEVEN songs tonight!!! It seems like they are giving him more and more performance time each concert!!!
Joymus, were you THERE tonite?? ????????? Or just commenting on cellcast? I love his carolling — he’s giving us a Christmas album via youtube
His gift to us this year while we wait for the “official” Christmas album next year. Awwwwwwwww…..
SF, I saw that (FG was quick to point me to that… lol) I have to say, just looking at it, it doesn’t “look” like a legit publication.
…the gift that keeps on giving.
SF, let’s just say, if I were on Team David that “publication” definitely would NOT get MY seal of approval.
Joner, honestly he just sounds like he is more and MORE on his game with every passing hour. Guh! That cellcast truly blew me away. I’m tellin’ ya, I’m making a fresh pot o coffee and staying up for the vids… that’s all there is to it.
I’ve been lurking about here for months. I made one other post, way back in July after I discovered the link to WYSYLM from Salt Lake City, but I felt compelled to post tonight. My tastes in music tend to be quite eclectic, but I’m a rocker by nature. I was weaned on the Beatles and the Stones, matured with Aerosmith, Led Zeppelin, Yes, Van Halen, et al. With very few exceptions over the years, for me, the only good ballad was a power ballad by an established rock band. Then David came along. I saw him in the preliminary auditions, then watched as he sang “Heaven” (a fave power ballad of mine) during Hollywood week. While watching that, I thought I saw something in the background and after hearing the judges gush, I replayed it. (gotta love whoever invented the DVR) Yep, I was right – one of the backup singers was crying, obviously wiping her eyes as David sang.
A couple weeks later, I remember screaming at the TV when David started to sing Lennon’s “Imagine”. I’ve heard countless renditions of that song over the years by otherwise talented singers – all of which were horrible, IMO. It’s just one of those songs I feel very protective over – no one but Lennon could ever make that song sound right. Yeah, right. Ninety seconds later, tears were streaming down my face. Wait! I don’t cry over a song! (Yeah, I did.)
I had ODD before it even had a name. This site has been my haunt since I discovered a link to it on FOD. I’ve gushed, laughed, cried, and watched in awe at the evolution of what is the most remarkable talent of my lifetime.
Rascal, to simply thank you for this site seems woefully inadequate. To paraphrase someone in a recent thread, ‘you are to words what David is to song’. I often find myself trying to find words to help me figure out why I feel the way I do when I hear David sing, only to come here and see that you’ve already found those words for me.
I have never participated in a fan-driven project before, at least not that I can recall, and certainly none that would have cost me money. Until now. A gift basket for the Archuleta family at Christmas – a stroke of genius, if you ask me.
Thank you, Rascal, and thank you to all my fellow ND Archufanatics.
oh wow, Kurt, that post was like a lovely little Christmas gift to all of us here. So lovely to read.
beebee – AMEN to that!
This is what I love about what’s happening… He is totally in control of what’s going on here. He was deliberately “test-driving” ATM at the Holiday of Hope event knowing full well he was putting it into one of his Jingle concerts. He KNOWS he has to prove himself as a musician as well as a singer. He’s doing EXACTLY what needs to be done to garner respect in this industry He continues to challenge himself and punch the envelope.
Not only is he mega-talented, he is one of the brightest 17 year olds I’ve ever seen.
I have also noticed that David is getting more performance time. This is such great experience for him! He gets to build up more and more experience performing different songs. I can’t wait to see the vids from tonight!
beebee #59, may not be legit, but the pics are GREAT!
Kurt1960 – so good to feel the love. Ain’t rascal the best??!!
lmao! SF… no argument there, nope.
Silver…couple of questions. What row were you in at your concert? It doesn’t look like they have that walkway coming out into the crowd like on Idol tour, right?
I don’t believe this has been posted anywhere yet — MCL’s review:
David Archuleta Performs O Holy Night
It doesn’t get much better than this. David Archuleta rendered an inspirational performance of O Holy Night at the Holiday Of Hope Tree Lighting Ceremony in Los Angeles this weekend.
His interpretation of this beloved classic carol was absolutely gorgeous and I especially fell in love with his creative melodic twists to the original melody during the second verse. It was just beautiful and truly came from the depths of his soul. This is how this song was intended to be sung – with reverence and respect for the lyrics.
David’s performance was tasteful, sincere and ringing with a consummate blend of vocal artistry and technical skills. His sustaining ability, coupled with his liberated soulful style, always ceases to amaze me – it is absolutely stellar.
Magnificent Masterclass performance David! Bravo!
http://masterclasslady.com/2008/12/07/david-archuleta-performs-o-holy-night/
Note: I believe that in the penultimate paragraph MCL means ‘never’ instead of ‘always’.
Now if she would review David’s beautiful rendition of A Thousand Miles.
FROM SNARKIES!!!
On the way out, Vicki overheard two high school/college boys say…
“Dude! Tell me David Archuleta wasn’t freakin’ amazing tonight.”
Tonight he sang Touch My Hand, Works for Me, ALTNOY, A THOUSAND MILES, Crush and O Come All Ye Faithful a capella!!!!
He was VERY relaxed, bopping around, dancing around, touching girls hands, running on the stage!! He thanked/acknowledged the band and was amazed by the noise level and the crowd.
It was 10 times louder than any of the AI shows and she attended Tulsa, Toronto and Rochester.
TMH was great.
Works for Me:
ALTNOY:
1000 Miles: The whole place was singing with him!!!
Crush: Amazing!
O Come All Ye Faithful: first verse, a capella
One of the DJ’s came out after the set and was amazed: “That was amazing!”
Hi Beebee,
I was simply enjoying my birthday gift over Rickey’s call cast.
Kurt1960, Amen! David has a way of bringing together wonderful people. I’m having a BLAST “watching the most remarkable talent of our lifetime!”
Sorry…I meant that was from FOD!!! I was just soooo excited!!! LOL
Welcome Kurt.
Joner#62 – Well said. Everything Davis does in terms of these tours is definitely a test drive. The demands of singing more than 4 tunes, branching out with his playing – re Crush on keyboard this morning in Toronto, ATM in Buffalo, Christmas songs – Chrstmas Album -Jive are you listening?
lol… joner… breathe in… breathe out…. breathe in…. lol
I have to laugh. I wonder honestly if his band had any idea what working with him was going to be like.
I know their resumes show they have all worked with some very established talents, but I doubt seriously they’ve ever seen anything close to the reaction and adoration that David gets from the crowd!
More from FOD…
“Davids set just ended. We cannot tell you how amazing he was.
Started with touch my hand, works for me, you can, Altnoy, 1000 miles, crush and a bonus xmas acapella o come o ye faithful. On top of that he was rocking it out, stomping his feet, and running on stage. The crowd went nuts! It was truly a great and friendly crowd.
Oh and Davids antics during the technical difficulties that occurred leading up to 1000 miles were well worth the price of admission!”
I can’t wait to see the “antics”!!
Joner..David is a prodigy..and this is what I think..he’s brilliant, he’s savvy, he’s talented, and he knows what he wants and how to get there..a step at a time. Except lately he decided to take the elevator, a fast one with us on it and we don’t know which floor we’re going to. He just keeps taking us up, up & up! And I’m getting DIZZY!
At the Houston concert, there was no walkway. I was on the floor, center 4th row, but there was a barricade of about 2 feet between the stage and the front row.
Looks to me like the Buffalo concert was a huge, smashing success for David. He’s only gonna get better with each performance..then **sigh** Atlanta!!
Oh Boy !… I am starting to think I am going to need a designated driver to get me home from Albany !…
Joymus~ Happy Birthday !!
Joner, I WOULD love to hear the band’s *take* on things after the month of Dec. (A nice little interview would be cool.)
I’m DYIN’ for these vids. Y’think if I drink more coffee, faster, the vids will come faster? lol
Joymus, if the videos from tonight’s performance reflect even a fraction of the electrifying buzz we perceived through the cellcast — THOSE (vids) would be *quite* the birthday gift!
Happy Birthday!
Joymus, ♫HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU♫
…and ya know, this lemon doesn’t sing for just anybody!
Thank You – BB and DJ,
SF – While we were taking the stairs – in case of emergency – David took the elevator! Was it only 2 wks ago we said he needed to morph into a better entertainer after those AOL sessions? Silly Gooses all of us -LOL! *shakes head*
Joner – Too Cute and Thanks, I appreciate the lemonade – haha. I live by myself so its great sharing it with my e-family. How do you get music notes?

archangel48 #71 – Indeed, David has a remarkable way of bringing together wonderful people, wonderfully!
joymus #73 – Thanks! And happy birthday!
Kurt1960 – Thank you for sharing your story about discovering David and the fan community that has developed around him. I have come to realize that for every person who shares this now-familiar (but always welcome) tale, there are hundreds, perhaps thousands out there who share the journey but who do not comment or who have not yet found us.
The evidence of David’s new performance power in recent shows is incredibly thrilling, but only surprising in perhaps the speed with which it has emerged. Those of us, like you, Kurt, who were struck early on with an unavoidable, unambiguous vision of a legend in the making, are sharing a rare joy, one made possible in large measure by modern technologies, to accompany David on his remarkable ride.
And there is so much more to come.
Joymus #83 ::::raising hand:::::: for the record… I never said that! lol. David has long been (lonely) in my He-Who-Can-Do-No-Wrong Hall o Fame. I’ve never had a complaint about any of his performances. I love and respect him too much to see “dearth” when there has always been such abundance of genuine, bonafide talent and spirit. I love him polished or unpolished and just never manage to see anything akin to him “falling short” (Who would ever know I have a critical bone in my body. I DO. But I just have nuthin’ to whine about where David is concerned.)
Dang, I wish HG weren’t in hiding tonight. I wanted to ask her about David opening for Chris Brown again. Over at snarkies there’s a mini-discussion going on and the claim is that Chris Brown fans would decidedly NOT appreciate David. HG was so convincing of the opposite.

I have one thing to say about David and Chris Brown touring together…no! But David should do what he thinks he should, cuz what works for him, works for him..but if it’s a JIVE decision, I hope David’s mgmt says no..It’s just rumor anyway with no basis in fact…and I wish I could wait for the Buffalo vids, but its, late & work beckons in the AM..so g’nite all, and for David…
Dear Lord, Though we are unworthy to ask,
Please take Care Of David. Watch over him, Protect him from all harm. Cloak him with your love and give him the strength to endure all that is thrown in his path. Give David the courage and guidance to say no those who ask for more than he can reasonably give. Surround David with loving and supportive people who love him UNCONDITIONALLY as we, his ARCHANGELS do. SEPARATE DAVID FROM THOSE WHO HAVE AGENDAS OTHER THAN FOR HIS WELLBEING. Give him rest when he’s weary and fatigued. Give him the stamina to sustain his hectic pace. Give him assurance when he feels doubt. Give him joy when he feels sad. Cloak him always in your protective arms. Keep David healthy & strong as he fulfills his Destiny which was written in his Book of Life before he was born.
This, though we may be unworthy, humbly pray,
Amen.
Sweet dreams David, be safe & secure in our love always! Take care. You will always be numero uno in our eyes! Thank you for all you do and for just being you!

Hey Guys ~
Hope you are all well. I’m bummed I missed the cellcast tonight…
It’s interesting the Chris Brown topic has been brought up again. I’m surprised the Snarkies think his fans would be against it, but I’m curious why they think so. hello gorgeous had so many great reasons that would leave me to believe the opposite. I’m still on the fence about it. I guess ideally I’d prefer him to tour with someone more established and known more for singing than entertaining. Sticking within the pop genre, Christina Aguilera would be my ideal choice. One day, I would love to see him share a stage with Norah Jones.
But back to Chris B…silverfox, you mentioned that it is all rumor, but I’m not sure if you knew that Dean K. was the one who brought it up in a chat that David’s people were “in talks” to open for CB. To your point though, we should probably take everything with a grain of salt until there is an official announcement…
Finally, I am so curious about why David has been performing ATM accompanied by piano. Here David has a new record out – and he is performing one song only avalable as a bonus track at one store, one personal favorite unrelated to the album, and one spiritual Christmas song a cappella? I wonder what the label thinks! People talk about David’s stubbornness (while always remaining polite). His evolving tour set, to me, says a lot about where he wants to take his music and image. Good for him for having the courage to do so. I do hope the label is on board with that, but for all we know they could be behind it all…after all, look at the amazing buzz and free press he is getting…and not for gossipy reasons, but for singing his favorite songs!
good night all.
g’nite happy..i just sent you another e-mail..
rascal, it’s a lovely idea to do something for the family! It will be such a wonderful surprise and I’m sure David would really appreciate it.
I wanted to come in briefly and say that. I will do the contributing part a little later as I would definitely want to be a part of this. I am still working, slaving away… aarghhh… and am refraining from watching or listening to anything, or reading people’s comments. I just see words like “screams”, “whimper”, even musical notes! So much to catch up later, much later…

Littlemushroom,
I’m a lurker that just happen to have the answer to your concern. According to someone on FOD who went to the Houston show, David only rehearsed 5 songs with the band. Some shows will give him more time and he needs to fill that slot. He can’t sing other songs from the album since they haven’t practiced together yet, so he’s doing songs he can do without them.
COMMENT DELETED
What a thoughtful gesture, Rascal.
That family has been through a great many changes this past year and I am not unaware of their sacrifices.
Go Archuleta’s!
I was a bit *scared off* and haven’t been commenting. But I have lurked. Can’t help myself.
(I was bullied a bit as a child due to having 8 older sisters)
I need to toughen up.
Bookaholic, I think we’ve all moved on from this topic.
Laila – thank you for the insight!!
although, I wonder why he chooses not to do “My Hands”? He did it in the AOL sessions….hmmm maybe he doesn’t like that one as much, or it is too vocally taxing, or feels he needs to rehearse it more. In any case, it’s a treat to see the other performances. Thanks again for the response…I was staring to think I killed the thread!
Bookaholic – how many times do you need to say that word.
I am queasy now.
LM – I love “My Hands”. It is one of the songs that I wake up singing! I actually dream about it.
I am loving all the piano playing. With ATM he is especially confident, probably because he’s been playing this song for years!
betsy, “My Hands” was my all-time fave from the AOL Sessions. I would love to hear it live with his added energy.
betsy – it has grown on me too.
Reminds me of a funny story (or at least funny to me)…I recently went to a party and saw a friend I hadn’t seen in a long time. We got to talking about music and lo and behold, he is a closet Archie! He only discovered David through “Crush” and fell in love with the song and his voice, which I thought was the coolest thing. Later I gave him one of my CDs (I have a few…hehe). The next day I get a text that reads: “uh huh…the news and the weather channel-uh. I love it!” His favorite song on the whole album is now MY HANDS
I’m generally not a fan of censorship, but … I would vote to have Bookaholic’s post removed on the grounds of tastlessness alone.
Please just stop it and rejoice in the videos from tonight.
LM great story!
caseydog – I’ve already requested that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
haha!

You’re welcome littlemushroom.
I have no idea about My Hands. But we all know David’s fav. is Works For Me and he wanted that song on the main album. The song got great feedbacks from fans when it was released. Jeff asked FOD to conduct a poll for Jingle shows, and I think Works For Me stood out.
It’s been said in the future it will be available on iTunes along with Somebody Out There? So, maybe Jive starts to ‘get it’.
thanks Liz!
juliebug – so cute! What is that little dance? hehe!
Besty, I wake up singing My Hands too. It’s funny, because when both ‘hands’ songs leaked my favorite was TMH, but for some reason it’s My Hands that lingers.
Loved the “convert” story, LM!
Oh, and how beautiful was “Oh Come All Ye Faithful”?!
I am slowly making a christmas cd to bring to work and play for all the shoppers!
Maybe they will be inspired!
(And buy more!)
Laila – thanks again for the info! You know what I think they should do, put “Works for Me” as a bonus song when you buy the “ALTNOY” single on iTunes – to not only get the song out there but bump up sales for the new single!!
*rubs hands together like scheming record executive*
brooklyn – exactly same thing happened to me.
Exactly.
My unconcious mind started singing it my sleep.
And I thought I liked the other one better.
Face it peeps. We want ALL 30 songs that David recorded for this album. Want to plan a covert operation to sneak into Jive’s vaults?
julie – I’m in.
We can be stealthy like ninjas.

:::::raising hand again::::: Big “My Hands” fan!!! Yay!
I’m in too!

Betsy – can we borrow Adam? He’d be good at distracting the guards.

Silverfoxe – She can drive the get-away car
Yay beebee! I think we’ve discussed this before but I never, ever tire of talking about fave David songs!
I think I comment about it too much altogether.
Anyone up for “Oh Holy Night”
I am planning on playing it all Christmas Eve on a loop, interspersed with “Silent night”, David-style!
If David sings different Christmas songs during the rest of the Jingle tour…it will confirm my suspicion that he’s giving us our Christmas album via YouTube.
juliebug, yes we want’em ALLLL. And then some!
Laila, thanks for that bit of info (I can never keep up totally with FOD!) Boyhowdy, if he’s casting about for songs he can do with out the band I am wishing, hoping, puh-raying for WOTWTC (oops, might need to muster some simple guitar work, but he could pull that off, no prob) and CRAZY!! Yay! Yessssss!! Between those two and ATM, intertwined amongst his smokin’ album cuts, man he’d … CRRRRUSHHHH, baby!
It would probably be very “Raising Arizona” bumbling!
I love all his Christmas songs!!
I’ve loved the spiritual ones he has done, but I would also love to hear him bust out some “Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)” – you know the one Darlene Love does every year on Letterman? Love that!
Here’s a great example if you’re in the mood…

“Boyhowdy”
LOL
Littlemushroom…Counting Letters and Senseless.
LOL! Betsy! You’ll be happy to know that there ain’t no such thing as over-discussing fave David songs! And YES, I believe David is giving us our 2008 Christmas Album via these exquisite little performances. We just hafta follow behind him and collect them like
easter eggser, Christmas cookies! If he keeps delivering a new carol with each Jingle event… we’ll have one suh-weet little collection for this year! (David is SO GOOD TO US!)Hi beebs….I’m with you..what you said in your previous post #88.
Janey – YES!!! Those titles are so interesting….Counting Letters sounds like it could be about stories people tell him in fan mail…Senseless sounds like a message song…inquiring Shrooms want to know!
betsy – I was thinking more along the lines of Revenge of the Nerds myself!
How about this little gem?!
Tree lighting Ceremony, ATM, what he does with the word wonder.
I know i’ve talked about it before but……HOW?
I think I am boring myself now!
Revenge of the nerds! I WOULD fit right in!
oh I would too, betsy, believe me!!!

LOL… Betsy, houstonrufus tossed a “boyhowdy” out a long time ago I think at Rickey’s — much to my delight– as I have a whole hunk of family in Texas (my mom grew up there) and “boyhowdy” was a common phrase amongst some of those great folks! I love it. lol (Thank you, houston, for brangin’ it back!
)
lil’shroom, now that’s a rockin’ Christmas tune! I do want to hear some modern Christmas songs from David as well as carols! He just knows how to *guh-ROOVE* so well, I want it ALL. (I am SO greedy! But it’s only because he’s capable of SO MUCH)
I’d love to hear him do the Christmas Song and Have Yourself A Merry LIttle Christmas. (And you know how I feel about “Baby, It’s Cold Outside” lol… but I’m the only one who wants that.)
Gah!

Better quality OCAYF
Beebee – I may have to latch onto that delicious word! Every once in awhile, for no reason whatever, I break out into a southern drawl. I was born and raised in the midwest – there is no clear reason for it!
(I just love to do it!)
Oh come let us adore him.
We already do Betsy.
OH I just LOVE seeing him workin’ it on the stage! Runnin’ all around… brangin’ it… touching hands… sharing mic with audience… props for the band! guh! Major heart opening happening here…lol… GAH! HE IS SO ON HIS GAME! I LOVE DAVID ARCHULETA! YAY!!!!!
lmao betsy! It’s kinda, y’know… liberating in an twangy drawly laid back kinda way… sho’nuff!
(y’all!)
I have to be at work in 7-1/2 hours.
David, stop being so heartwrenching at 1:45 a.m.!
I have to go to bed sometime!
I will end up looking like Sarah Palin’s less attractive sister! wrinkles will happen! hair will be bad!
(my husband thinks she is my long lost twin)
juliebug, that was a GREAT one!
beebee – those would be beautiful songs to hear too! Hope Jive gets that Xmas CD together for next year…
Well, its about that time so it’s off to one last listen of “Barriers” for me then I have to go to bed. It’s been really fun talking with you guys.
Nite!
lol… “… hair will be bad!” LOL!
Nite LM.
Sweet dreams.
nite lil’shroom! Gosh, it really feels Christmasy to me!
I am going to attempt sleep. Although I am still so wide awake I will need to read to myself one of my favorite books in my head.
Sometimes that works.
(secret shame – I reread my favorite books over and over)
Was told by lawyer stepdaughter she could never do that. Too boring.

I can’t go to bed yet.
You Can is my favorite!
Thanks Julie!
On that note….. I am going to bed.
Goodnight Julie, Beebee, and LM.

Last night when I went to snarkies, there was someone talking he/she was in Beijing, and Youtube has been banned. And you know, I couldn’t go to hk.yahoo.com or read hk news website when I was in China, because there is censorship all over the in-/out-internet signals. And you have no idea how happy I was when I watched how informative they were in Sichuan Earthequake, it’s a great step.
On one hands, they officially banned all information, the other hands, there are tons of “under-grounded” activities to get the information. Provided that the government is not paying attention to that, you are quite free to get what you want… Let me say, you could BT everything you think of, the piracy.
Yes, it is my country.
Bookaholic, I am not particularly envied the US decromatic system, because that might not fit in our case. However, I do envy the freedom of speech you all own. To me, I need not 100% agree with you, and so do you. The most important is: we can say.
I cherish (the freedom of speech) because I know how it is when you lost.

Thanks for reminding me how lucky we are. I will keep reminding myself of that when something dark and ugly walks into this room.
Good morning, All.
I can’t believe that I get up an hour early, every morning, so that I will have time to catch up on MY DAVID before heading out to work. But, I do!
Have enjoyed watching videos from last night, perusing David fan sites, and reading all of your comments. It is somewhat amazing to me, though “knowing” David it shouldn’t be, that he is so dang comfortable up on that stage. I’m a pretty outgoing person but I would just freeze if I had to face all those screaming people. And here is OUR DAVID, basically shy and humble, metamorphosing into this..can’t find the words…ENTERTAINER, will have to do, with this great re-pore with his audience. He is so comfortable, so into the moment, so confidant, so sincere.
I read, and commented, on another blog that was deriding David for his lack of entertainment skills. They were extolling the need for dancers, and gimmiks, and light shows etc. etc. and that just because David could sing it didn’t make him viable to the public. I’m sure I’m just a little biased but I really think David knows how to get an audience’s attention without resorting to all the fru-fru that so many other artists resort to. I’m so glad that I enjoy someone one doesn’t think that off color jokes, obscene comments and smashing guitars are the way to entertain. Also, from the background screams on the videos, it seems that a lot of concert goers agree with me.
If David continues to grow and learn at the rate he is going where in the world will he be in several years? Even though the passage of time runs to swiftly for me, at my age, I really am looking forward to each new “moment” in David’s fledgling career.
OCAYF — Mariah hand!! Woot! Woot!
David is earning the word “phenom” yet again.
Thanks for all the reconnaissance, juliebug!
Lots of hunkering down and stomping in TMH. In one way this reminded me of the Idols tour concerts.
Big venue, screaming fans. One idol though! What he can do to a crowd! They were in a frenzy.
I haven’t watched the vids yet, but Mariah hand it back!? Just got my morning off to a great start!
OMG! David was AMAZING in Buffalo..just fantastic! His audience showed their appreciation and he rewarded them! This was more like the David I saw on the Sacramento vids.
In Houston, even though his vocals were superb, I just felt he was a little restrained, and I know the vids don’t show it, but I was there, and even if others who were there disagree, David was not the David we saw in Sac or Buffalo last night. Who knows why? The loss of his phone, or because it was Sunday? Whatever…HE’S BACK! With a vengence..LOOK OUT WORLD! THE VOICE is now THE ENTERTAINER!! No need for dancers..who would even look at ‘em anyway..waste of time & money. No need for gimmics! David is so charismatic, gimmics would not be noticed anyway! And the man has SO
much confidence on stage..it’s a joy to see!
juliebug #175 – Oh my, it’s a full-on love fest. David and thousands of fans singing ATM!!! I love seeing the joy in his face as he sings this.
RE: “Kissmas Bash is teen hit” by Jeff Miers
To the Editor:
Despite the fact that the snarky music review is by now so overdone it seems like a relic, one does get the sense that at least a few of Mr. Miers’ well-worn arrows remained in their quill when it came to David Archuleta. In that, he is in the company of a growing number of critics whose disdainful preconceptions about the artist are invariably dismantled, especially when they see him live.
David Archuleta is not “a mere 19,” as Mr. Miers asserts, but in fact only 17, and he is certainly no Pat Boone. Boone never made grown men weep or die-hard music industry professionals marvel at his remarkable skill and innate musicality. A pious upbringing and a commitment to personal boundaries does not equate to pallid pop, but that observation would require a certain degree of original thinking. The fact that Mr. Miers goes on to make analogies between Archuleta and George Michael is a rather amusing irony that seems lost on him.
To those of us who envision legendary potential in David Archuleta, it is gratifying to read critics who seem impressed in spite of themselves, but it would be refreshing to encounter one with enough courage to dispense with the idea that being an impressive critic must always involve disdain, especially of the superficial kind.
Pretty good review here of Buffalo performance, modulo a couple of details:
http://www.buffalonews.com/494/story/518782.html
Beautiful run supporting the Mariah hand. Well done, David. I just love this side of him. He feeds off the energy of the crowd and gives it all back. My how he has grown. He brings it all, the look, the voice, the charm, charisma, and growing stage presence. David doesn’t need dancers or pyrotechnics, simply because that is just filler for those who don’t have all of the tools that David possesses. They need the filler, David doesn’t.
Tess, I saw your support of David yesterday elsewhere, I post there under another monniker and was glad that someone self picked up the mantle. I just wasn’t feeling much like jumping into the fray as I usually do over there. It’s a tough room, but even there he’s winning them over, one song at a time. Even the blog mistress herself had to admit that David has grown as a performer. That would never have been a thought of hers 5 months ago.
Good lord, his piano playing on ATM is twice as good as it was three days ago.
You go Rascal! Although the review was positive I am tired of critics labeling him whitebread or bland. The comparison to George Michael, was that a compliment or not? For the record George is one of the most incredibly gifted singers (idol finale, notwithstanding, lol) I’ve ever heard, so David being in his company is great, Pat Boone, not so much.
My other complaint is since when is being amiable and sincere a bad thing? Oh well, at least they aren’t questioning his pop credibility. I guess he’s answered that loud and clear.
rascal, glad to see that the Pat Boone comparison caught your eye. I didn’t care much for it either.
Good grief….why don’t these writers get their facts straight before they write a story for the world to see. He is NOT 19, NOT like Boone, does NOT have blue eyes (at least not since I have been looking at them for almost a year)….and I am sure the Kissmas Bash was a hit with many people, NOT just teens…UGHHH
Re: the review by Jeff Miers..did David sing Silent Night as well as OMAYF?? Was Miers even there?? Is he deaf?
Jus’ askin’…cuz that Miers confused me..David like Pat Boone??? GIVE ME A FRIGGIN’ BREAK!! And even comparing David to GM?? Is there a hidden meaning there?? ARE YOU KIDDING ME!! Cuz as much as I have always liked GM, David’s vocals are superior to his even when he was at the top of his game..IMO. Geesh! Miers needs to go to rehab cuz he had to be on “something” last night!
rascal, I agree. It is a joy to see his confidence grow as he accompanies himself on the piano. I think ATM works particularly well because there are times for complicated piano passages, and then there are times for just singing. The back and forth allows David to focus on one thing at a time. By contrast he was struggling to accompany himself on Crush, although this will of course improve with repetition.
I think that David’s piano-playing-while singing will continue to improve. A friend of mine is a musician with an Indy album, and she said that depending on how she is feeling, she has the band accompany her sometimes. Does anyone know how long David took piano lessons? I remember him saying one time that he had reached “level 2,” but I was not sure what curriculum his teacher was using.
LIZ – I agree. With Angels, there was a huge difference in his piano playing confidence on Idol vs the concert tour.
After re-reading Miers review, maybe I was OTT in my review of Miers..but I felt his review of David was lukewarm compared to his review of the other acts, except Flo-Rida. I wasn’t there so I don’t know if the other acts deserved the reviews he gave them. But the Pat Boone comment just made me barf! Come on! And the crowd greeted David with JUST some “gusto?..I heard MORE than “some” gusto, more like thunderous sreams & applause!
That’s why I don’t read reviews..I can’t take any negative or perceived negativity towards David, even though some people thought I was negative about Houston, but that was not my intention..I was concerned about David and what may have been on his mind..and besides I adore him!
So there!
lol… SF … yeah, the PB reference was, like, way barfy. ::gag::
SF, I go into protection mode any time the media doesn’t “get” David. I believe they don’t even try. This writer got sooo many things wrong. Someday, (real soon, I’m sure) they will eat their words! Then we get to say “nanny-nanny-boo-boo”! Ha! Ha!
Josie still loves beebee.
beebee & archangel..THANK YOU! Yeah! Those that give David lukewarm reviews will eat their words and barf all over themselves sooner than we think..David is in a fast-forward learning mode! He’s achieving his own style and way of owning the stage. He can only get better and it is mind-blowing to think we are here to see it! All the people who have attended these jingle concerts will someday look back, when David is a Living Legend, and boast “I saw him in concert!” David has control of how far he wants to go in his career. Unlike other young singers, David will not allow himself to be tempted or corrupted by fame & fortune. That is his strength. But he wants to be successful in his career and what works for him, works for him..( I just love to say that about David! ). And he can say someday, when he’s my age like another great song “I did it my way!”
Ok, now I’m getting sentimental..gotta get some work done!
…sf he can only get better…he won’t get better because he doesn’t need to but he will express himself to his full extent as time goes on…he is better then anyone I have ever hear and that includes all of the great ones for the past several decades…
{{{{Josie!}}}} <– ♥
This is what I’d love to see David add to his non-album, unplugged repertoire for concerts (but with HIM on guitar!) This little performance positively SLAYS me. Always has. (a little stroll down memory lane.
)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kmj1S7pZYSc
Rascal, I’ve always experienced the loose, just frackin’ soulful chanelling in this little performance mind-numbingly brilliant. Understated brilliance. (One of the many things that always blows me away with David)
ReadMyMind..perhaps you are right, cuz if he gets any better vocally…is it even possible??

QUESTION re GIFT BASKET:
Does anyone know – POSITIVELY – that the Archuleta family will be at a particular place for the Holidays – home or otherwise?
Silverfox, are you seriously upset by the comparison between David and George Michael?
I can’t think of a more gorgeous voice for that purpose, I mean, comparison. They both have powerful voices, which also display subtler nuances – of course I’m thinking young GM here. If David can launch his own ‘Listen Without Prejudice’ kinda album next year this fan will be over the moon. When he sang DLTSGDOM on Finale night all I could think was ‘This is Michael’s version, not Elton’s’. Of course, he’ll never turn into the sexy beast GM was back then. He has his own thing going on in that area and I think I like the way it’s headed.
valbraz..NO, no! I’m not upset at the comparison at all if it was a comparison to GM’s talent, which is considerable! OMG! When GM first came on the scene as half of WHAM! I thought he was a gorgeous specimen! And I loved him even more when he went solo. But, I guess I wondered if there was a hidden meaning to the comparison, and after re-reading the review I knew I was OTT in my tirade…except for the Pat Boone comment! I hate the inuendos people make about
David like it’s gonna make a difference in how we, his unconditional fans feel about him. His personal life is his personal life period..and that’s why I questioned the comparison..first Pat Boone, then GM..I just saw red!
I would think David would be pleased to be compared to GM, actually.
I’m just thinking about all the ND people who are in Albany to see David!! Wish I was there too! HG is gonna think she died & went to heaven! haha!
SF and others, word is that David may have an hour-long (or at least a longer) set, and that he’s going up last in the “pimp spot,” as one fan termed it. I wonder what he will perform?
I am not surprised! I mean, there’s just David and Gavin Degraw, and I think a local band..OMG! This may be like a “rehersal” for what’s to come for David’s solo concerts.
I’m gonna regret not going BIG TIME!!
And speaking of “solo” concerts..all the talk about David opening for Chris Brown doesn’t sound like a solo concert to me! It this is what David’s mgmt is working on, we can forget the “small venue” concerts. Chris Brown would require large arenas. He is an established pop/rap artist who just won the AMA for artist of the year or something like that. And when it was announced he was guesting in Houston, the tickets sales increased by a huge amount or so I heard at the concert. So taking nothing from Chris as an ARTIST in his genre of music, I just hope David does not open for him..But what do I know anyway…
The Albany concert should be starting in about 10 min!
I think David will sing all the songs he sang last night, and wouldn’t it be FANTABULOUS if he sings IMAGINE?
He may add MY HANDS!!
I’m so excited for all the people there for David!!
I see what you mean. Now that’s an ugly thing for adults to do to a young person – to stick labels to people regarding something so complex and personal. The only thing these reporters will change is how we feel about THEM! Oh, an Archangel’s wrath! Ha ha!
Anyway, I think you’ve got it all pretty much covered in your prayer. David is in God’s hands, and God’s love!
Yes, the concert! I’ll try to catch it at Snarky’s.
It really indicates that David’s talent is growing in leaps and bounds that we have had so many first-time posters here on ND lately.
Perhaps they’re placing David toward the end more because they’re noticing that a number of people leave after David’s set. More people staying until the end of the night = more concession stand sales.
David mixing up his sets makes me realize that I WILL get my wish granted: David performing SOMEBODY OUT THERE!! It HAS to happen – it placed in the Top 5 in that FOD poll! It’s going to replace “You Can” in one of these sets one day I think!
ronaldsf — from your mouth to God’s ears!
‘My Hands’ is beautiful, but I think it’s a scary undertaking in that it’s too taxing on his voice. Masterclass Lady said this song doesn’t do anything for his voice. But it does to us, Masterclass lady! We love it! Don’t you think Somebody Out There would slow his set too much? I’m dying for him to sing YEDL. Now that’s a fun song.
Ronald,
Truer words were never spoken. Some of the updates and comments seen recently on YT, Snarkies or FOD seem to suggest that many people DO leave after his set. I know I would.
Did we see this one last night of ATM? With all the before banter? A different view.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RqGyE_7xbJQ
On Disney’s Pick It or Kick It, ALTNOY got 99 percent for and 1 percent against. Crush only got about 78 percent when it debuted. Sounds like ALTNOY might really be bigger than Crush.
David’s Bowl is up to $650. Sadly George Clooney’s has rocketed up to $1,000. Sad.
The bracelet/shirt package holding steady at $4,160.
Hope HG is having a blast tonight!
Rascal, I keep meaning to ask you…how’s the book coming along?
snarky’s is having problems with the cellcast..no sound!
Dang it!
David will be on in about 10-15 mins!!
SF – Amy turns off the music off a few minutes before so she doesn’t forget when the time comes. LOL!
Julie – thanks for the link. So cute! I saw a fuzzy version last night (actually this morning!)
Couldn’t make out anything said.
He is rockin’ the piano in this!
Oh..???
I’m listening in at Rickey’s cell cast too!
Hi everyone! GREAT IDEA RASCAL! Thank you so much for coming up with this heartwarming token. See, that’s what makes having someone like David as an idol. The love overflows to his family & closest of friends. I am in awe of the affection the ArchieFans have committed to this young man.
Please don’t forget to include that wonderful cup with SF’s prayer — actually it may not be a bad idea to include samples of all the items in your giftshop? They may be interested to know where they came from
Also RASCAL, I find the design to be most tasteful. Am still figuring out how to get them…
GOOD NEWS ABOUT ALBANY – DAVID GETS THE PIMP SPOT! Oh boy, HG & co. will defnitely have a blast. Considering that there will only be 3 artists – local band, Gavin, then David – our boy may sing more #’s than anticipated. Am there with RONALDSF – I hope he sings SOT
This is very good prep work for his solo tour. At least he is building up his vocal strength. Jeff once said in an interview that their concern is that David can only sing up to 5 songs and he is already worn out. So the more chances that he has of progressively increasing his performances, the better – esp for us fans – haha!
I like the idea of including samples of all the giftshop items, too.
I’m listening to both cell casts and not sure if they are working tonight.
OH NO!! both rickey’s & snarkys are getting no reception from their cell casters at the concert..so we may have to wait for the videos..THERE BETTER BE VIDEOS!
Hi there JR!! Can you buh-lieve it..no one is blogging at any of the sites cuz everyone’s waiting for the cell casts!
haha! David’s got us hynotized & mesmerized even when he’s not singing to us! He may be on stage already and we are missing it! Dang!
I have a feeling that people are having problems getting reception in the building.
Maybe David could carry his phone in his pocket when he sings and he could cell cast for us! haha
Oh my heck…Rickey’s singing now..hahaha! NO! I want to hear David!!
And no sound at all at snarky’s!
Oh, now rickey’s playing Jason Castro…
This is not at all what I expected to hear tonight! haha!
I fear that either the place is tight, which means good acoustics…which is good because the vids will be great….or there are cell jammers in use.
Boooo….
Rickey’s having a tizzy-fit! haha! He’s spazzing!
Let there be no doubt that ODD is in fill bloom tonight – David withdrawal IS PAINFUL. It is actually paining me that we can’t get to hear him. As Rickey says -Comfort Fedoke, Comfort Fedoke, Comfort Fedoke!
Ahhh! No reception from Rickey’s & Snarkey’s –must be the venue, the building… poor rickey! he keeps on repeating “comfort fedoke, noelle will call” hahahahaha
Hi SF! Hey I’ve missed ya! Did you get my email? I was out of circ for a while cos my laptop crashed. I nearly went insane cos I lost all files – harddrive went kaput on me! Good thing I backed up all my files when I was sick last month so now I only have 2-3 weeks worth of work to rebuild. Whew! Too bad though that I cannot recover my YM archives
Of course, files of AnythingDavid are safely tucked away in an external drive – talk about priorities, right?! Flat-out ODD there.
This will be a loooooooong night. I hope HG will have the strength to go online asap.
juliebug..you may be right about cell jammers, but I sure hope we get some great videos!
David’s set is most likely about over! Now it’s a waiting game for some video!

CHRISTMAS SONG (Nat King Cole)
From an interview with Jason Mraz…
I spoke to David Archuleta the other day, and he told me he’d love to work with you some day, but he thinks he has some growing up and maturing to do before then.
I’d be happy to [work with him]…If Archuleta is a young man who has that awareness already—that I have some growing up to do—that’s amazing. That awareness is the first step. That’s the first tool that one needs to be a songwriter.
Oh no! Sounds like the Albany show was a mess! According to Rickey’s cellcaster it was super hot in the building. David was all sweaty. Some crazy Gavin DeGraw fans were pushy and David had to tell them to stop because there were children in front!!!
Rickey finally got a phone call from his caster..she said it was a mosh pit from he!! and it was very, very hot! And Rickey said “David was hot..he was HAWT & hot! oops!”
yes, that what he said! hahaha! He’s pretty funny! And our ladies had to WAIT in that “hot pit” for David!! Wow! If they were hot cuz it was hot in there..can you IMAGINE how high their temps rose when David came out! whew!
From the chat with Dean Kaelin at CDC:
Dean Kaelin:
I am encouraging him to write more as well because I think he has a real talent for that and I think his confidence in his abilties are growing.
Singing isn’t about strength and muscle, it is about balance and coordination. And the balance can be easily knocked out if you’re not careful, especially if you start pushing too hard.
The paralyzed vocal cord thing isn’t even an issue anymore. He is fine. The cord is strengthened and he doesn’t have anymore fatigue than anyone else, in fact he has less because his technique is better than most anyone else out there.
about keeping up with school:
I just asked him about that today because he has been so busy I assumed he wasn’t doing any school at all, but he assured me that he is doing his schooling online and is very diligent so that he can make sure he graduates next year. he is planning on walking with his class.
question:
Dean, do you think David’s voice can hold up through a full set of songs in concert or will he still have to build up to being able to sing 10 or more songs say at a time in a tour situation? Seems with the jingle jams he’s doing about 5 and sounding great
Kaelin answer: No, he will be able to do full shows easily.
Kaelin also said “My Hands” is the most difficult song vocally because it is high and stays high. He said that David was going to perform it tonight, but he got nervous and substituted two Christmas songs instead.

She reports that there was singing along with every song. TMH was a crowd favorite!
He was wearing a reddish, long-sleeved shirt with a t-shirt over. The lighting made it hard to tell the color of the shirt. Fitted jeans.
Muldur was at the Buffalo show and told us Albany and Buffalo can’t compare. It was a different atmosphere, David was the headliner (tonight in Albany) and most people were there for him. His vocals were better. He waved to a lot of people he recognized. Muldur touched his HAND!!! AHHHHH!!! Totally different!!!!!
I’m dying…OMGosh!”
LIZ thank you for bringing over those tidbits!!
Did he mention anything else about the upcoming tour “talks” (with CB peeps or anyone else)?
Just one more from Kaelin:
He (David) was in on selecting which songs made the album, but he didn’t have much say on what songs he originally recorded. They just would send him songs and say “learn this. You’re recording it tomorrow!”
Wow!
OMG, I LOVE a long sleeve shirt with a short one over on a guy! We need some video!!
“learn this. You’re recording it tomorrow!”
I don’t like the sound of that…
LM, no mention of the tour, solo or otherwise.
LittleMush #256, imagine putting a smiley at the end of that missive – it could mean excitement or an expression of confidence on him?
lol… this is adorable… part of the FOD notes from mulder at albany:
“UPDATE #5: David called The Christmas Song, “the chestnut song!!” LOLOL!!”
love it love it love it L.O.V.E…I.T.
Liz and others, thanks for all that info!
LittleMushroom, I LOVE that look of a t-shirt over a long shirt, too. I once saw David wearing a t-shirt over a long-sleeved waffle-knit thermal shirt, and I found that so HOT! I love that look for some reason. What is the saying? “Whatever floats your boat” haha
With all due respect to Dean, he doesn’t always get everything right (some of his assertions in his journal of the Idol experience are contradicted by more direct reports). Everything I heard regarding the album production was exactly the opposite–that David had more than usual say in what songs he would record, but almost no input on what actually went on the album. From what little I know about the music industry, that sounds more likely to me. But I have no direct confirmation, either, so don’t take my word for it.
JR4DA – You are right, the words “Learn this!” could have a variety of inflections. I am just amazed at how quickly he was expected to learn and record the songs! And of course Kaelin may have been exaggerating a bit.
JR..well, that update sounds promising..maybe it wasn’t a mosh pit from he!!..I guess we’ll find out soon enough!
Liz..About David’s vocal chord, I thought I had read the same thing several months ago, that it had healed and it wasn’t a problem for him anymore. But when people still think he has only one strong chord, I thought maybe I was mistaken.
I’m happy he plans on graduating with his class..an unforgettable experience he should not miss!
David’s going to be a great songwriter, one of the best I think. That’s what I’m looking forward to, all the stories he’ll put to music & lyrics. His life so far could be made into a Musical..who knows, maybe it will be. Oh yes, I’m sure David’s life story will be on the big screen someday.
I can’t wait to hear David sing the Christmas song from tonight!
Can you imagine the reception he will get when his name is announced at graduation?
Frefan – yeah, I’m trying to image the scene if he does actually attend his graduation. I hope for his sake, that it can happen and be a fairly normal event.
Silver – Dean keeps contradicting himself. Just a week or so ago in an interview he said that David hadn’t been scoped lately but that Dean suspected that the one chord was still underdeveloped, hence the “airy” quality to his voice.
Yet I remember an interview with David earlier this summer where he said that he HAD been re-scoped by the AI doctor who was his original doctor they saw for the vocal chord problem and that it was STILL paralyzed.
So is he saying that it’s not a problem because it’s strengthened from what it was but that it’s still not normal from what it would have been?
I just don’t think Dean knows as much as Dean thinks he knows. Or maybe its the way the questions to Dean are being phrased. eh…
http://fansofdavid.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/12/albany-martha-1.jpg
juliebug, My impression from the chat was that Dean was saying what you said in your third paragraph, i.e. that the paralyzed vocal chord has been rehabilitated through vocal therapy, but it is still not normal. And that this is what gives David his unique sound.
Uh oh! It may not be worth waiting up tonight. YouTube is undergoing maintenance. Which means that even if someone is uploading vids…they won’t show up for a while. Boooo….
more tidbits Snarkies report
He messed up the music on ATM, laughed and started over (awwwww! lol)
The crowd sang Happy Birthday to David! !!!!
(Bet HG was singing her HEART out! )
from FOD:
“… it was a small venue, only about 1000 tickets sold..there was no seating it was all standing. She said David was awesome, like it was his own concert.”
Snarkies:
But David was amazing!!! lots of eye contact and interaction with the audience. David was really sweaty and full of energy. When he sang 1000 miles, we could see the band sitting back and grooving to the music. I almost wanted to cry. They love and respect our David so much! I’m uploading some pics right now. It might take awhile depending on the connection. I didn’t get any video, because people were pushing and being really rude at this venue.”
“We just got back to the hotel from the concert. It was a night of mixed emotions because people were pushing like crazy!!!!! That was not fun.
Liz – I think David has a unique sound because he is DAVID! hehe
jackryan – you’re right, we shouldn’t read too much into what Dean says, when we can’t read the tone in which things were said. Plus, I agree with Rascal that Dean seems to be contradicting things I had heard in the past. It does seem like David recorded a ton of songs, some that are very “him” (SOT, Falling…), yet on the basic album, there are quite a few that don’t seem like him as much. “Barriers” for one, is actually one of my very favorites, but David has never said a word about this song and isn’t singing it which makes me think he’s not too crazy about it (just speculating of course). Another one that I know alot of people like but to me doesn’t seem very David is “Desperate.”
One other thing, does “Somebody Out There” remind anyone else of Enrique Iglesias’ “Somebody’s Me”? I love both songs and love Enrique too so plz no hatin…just wonder if anyone else sees the similarities …
Some if not all of the questions Dean was asked can really only be answered by David himself I think.
Awww beebee..I wish I could stay up for the reports, but I have to call it a night so g’nite all..and for David,
Dear Lord, Though we are unworthy to ask,
Please take Care Of David.
CONTIGO SIEMPRE CON AMOR!
LM – I agree, it does seem reductive to say that his voice = his vocal chords haha! This is David we are talking about!!
SF – sweet dreams!!
For what it’s worth, my impression about David’s vocal chord status, based on a combo of things I’ve heard both David and Dean say is that it isn’t an issue for him any longer. It’s healed as much as it’s probably gonna and is not restored to its original pristine state. Its current state gives him part of his distinctive vocal timbre.(Which I think is prolly exactly what both Liz & Juliebug said in one way or another.)

nitey nite SF! With any luck you’ll awaken to fresh baked Albany videos!
silverfox — in fact, David has made mention of the production process in several interviews, including a very recent one. Although he is typically short on details, he indicates that there were indeed songs that either weren’t right for him or that did not work or that he wound up rejecting. That doesn’t sound to me like he was being “assigned” songs to record.
lil’shroom! Remember last nite I was wishing for The Christmas Song? And wa-la! (I really like David’s name for it the best. I mean, there are LOTS of “Christmas Songs” but only one “Chestnut Song” lol)
I seriously canNOT wait to hear that! See? I was right, he’s feeding us a Christmas album, one concert at a time. (I love David Archuleta!)
LIZ #256 – that soooo good to hear – paralysis over and that David can do a full set easily – yehey!
O please please David, come to Asia – just anywhere in my continent and BAM! am there! As rickey would chant: comfort fedoke…comfort fedoke.. comfort fedoke…
Dang it! Now youtube is out doing maintenance… i wonder how long that will take
how can people upload?!
JR4DA – it HAS to happen for you!
The first pictures from tonight — David looks great! It’s clear that the place was very hot and he’s sweating a lot.
haha that’s right Beebee! I’m glad you got your Chestnut Song
Now that I think about it, David said right before his AI audition that he had “almost forgot” about his vocal paralysis, so that tells us something…
I just had to take one last peek..in case there was something about Albany! Well no wonder David was hot, ( I don’t mean “HAWT, oops”, as Rickey said, although he is that too! ), he’s wearing two shirts and one of them is a long sleeved shirt!
rascal, yes the last time he very briefly mentioned how he chose or rejected songs was on that wonderful interview in Anaheim, last week I think.
I’m signing off now!

LM #143– I’m like you, I love ALL his Christmas songs!
Thanks for the vid. I can totally see David singing that song and really getting into it–hunkering down and all!
Rascal–Thanks for the opportunity to “give back” to the Archuleta family! They certainly deserve our thanks for their gift to us this year.
First, on “A Thousand Miles”… Rascal is right, his piano playing is really good! Confident and expressive!
And I am LOVING “The Chestnut Song”… there are JAZZ as well as soul elements in his interpretation… a whole new aspect of David’s artistry! Can he be any more amazing?
Had to laugh at this… from comments at Snarky’s. Gengen was in the front row and got vids of everything. She’s uploading now…but she had this to say…
“No more. After this one, my days of chasing David in general admission concerts are over and done. I am too old for this. Next time when I hear David sing, the first thing I want to make sure is that I will have an assigned seat!”
LOL!
Hope HG got up close…..
you’re welcome tawna! I just love that song. David would do amazing things with it, I’m sure
David throws in some diva hand movements! I LOVE this!!!
I’d LOVE to hear David take on the Gershwin songbook.
Ronald, YES, the jazz vibe in David is simmering just beneath the surface at all times, I think! He just has it all, I swear. Can’t wait for Gengen’s vids!! (gosh, guess I hafta brew late nite coffee again…lol. WORTH IT!)
The Christmas song I REALLY want to hear David sing is “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas.” That would burst my heart open! It’s my favorite Christmas song along with OHN!
MEEE TOOOO Ronald! I was wishing for that one the other nite, along with the *Chestnut Song* — and THAT wish came true..:) so maybe… just MAYBE… before the jingles are done with… he’ll cover Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas, too! (Could we be so lucky?)
I’m still lobbying for Ave Maria – Schubert version.
I will really be dead then.
omg I was just thinking I would love to hear him sing that one!
hi, its nina and happy in Albany!!!!!! we are alive!!!!! we survived the moshpit!!! anything for David!!
Juliebug… oh what the hey, let’s throw in Handel’s Messiah while we’re at it… lol
OMG OMG OMG!!! NINA & HAPPPPPPPPY!!!! TELL!
YES, beebee, we agree!
Oh, and I agree juliebug. Ave Maria – Schubert version would KILL me! Okay, so there are THREE Christmas songs that I really really like!
I feel we’re lucky to be David’s fans – so many of our wishes have come true. I would say that he’s divine but I don’t want to deify him – maybe he’s Santa descended upon the earth? LOL
And ninaf, happy… is Hello Gorgeous STILL ALIVE????
All the others seem to have gone to bed…only nina and I (happy) are left standing….the heat in there was crazy and it was a crazy bar-band scene without the drunks or the bar band…just screaming people…some kids but screaming people that broke my ears….
will say that David was awesome- full of energy and EXTREMLY SWEATY- ( all of us who were stuck in the mosh pit were also sweaty)
We loved it!!! We were in the mosh pit about 20 feet from David!!! He seemed really energized. David’s band was set too loud unfortunately.
lol ronald. btw, I’m listening to James Taylor’s “Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas” right now. Know that rendition? It’s mighty fine (until I get me my Santa_David version, that is.)
did I mention the mosh pit? and the screaming fans? and sweaty David….we loved it (mostly- except the mosh pit)…
ronaldsf – you made me almost fall off my chair. “He’s Santa descended upon the earth!!!!???” LOL
ninaf – What stories do you have? We are eager for tales of the moshpit!
We are all alive and we loved meeting each other- that was great fun. Kizzi hosted us at a gathering at the hotel-HG, TOfan, Refnaf, bluebarbosa, djb, ninaf and happy…..
ninaf – Oh the things we do for David!!!
aw… Happy, sorry the sound balance wasn’t absolutely *poifect* — but still, it must have been glorious! David as the Headliner! I’m so happy for him and all of you lucky ones there! So exciting!
from- happy -My first impression was that he was very intense
I do not have my password with me, that is why ninaf is giving me her posting capabilities…she is here with me though- I am not a thief…..
TMH

Touch My Hand
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ULmNN3CSdI4&feature=channel_page
What were your favorite songs?
David was just amazing…. he was youthful and mature at the same time. He was really intense we he came out and samg TMH, he made an effort to touch the first row (we were row 5 of the mosh pit, I think TOfan and refnaf were right up front on the side)
forgive typos…
I did not have a favorite really….
ninaf’s favorites were ATM and the Christmas song
he was very soulful on the Christmas song…..
he and the band left the stage, but the house lights did not go on, we waited and he came back out alone….said I want to sing a Christmas song …I think its called The Christmas Song but I always call it the chestnut song…..
Pimp spot! Sweat! Moshpit! Need stories!
beebee, I just heard James Taylor’s version of HYAMLC. I love it! It really makes me feel warm and fuzzy and chestnutty inside. Thank you for letting me know about it! I have always loved his voice.
it was a treat to hear him without the band… you could hear his beautiful voice…
hi ronaldsf- its happy, how have you been? how’s school?
I loved being close but was wondering if my ears would recover from the screaming. Since we were in the front the screams came directly towards us and were intense.
crap, the videos got pulled!!! why?? why???
HG will wax poetic about the experience as she usually does. HG you are lovely!!!
Just watched TMH and got a small experience of the moshpit and the screams. Oh my….
So cool that you got to meet each other!! I loved meeting NDers in Sacramento.
we can’t get into youtube at this hotel computer, how are the vids? Don’t know why the pit was moshing , there was plenty of room in the place and it was a small place so even the back was pretty close. dbj was smarter than us and stayed in the back and said she could see fine and avoided the mayhem.
i don’t want to be negative, because I am thrilled that I made the trip. It was great and awesome, but at the same time sort of frenzied in an unnecessary way.
LM – It’s site maintenance again with YouTube. All will be fine.
guess we’ll head over to the new thread……
hi ninaf, school’s alright, i have three finals left but I got a couple extensions so I’ll be fine.
ronaldsf- its happy…..move to the next thread….
Dang it! My new video camera is acting up and so is my computer! No videos from me tonight. Will try again tomorrow or over the weekend once I figure out the problem.
This will be a loooooooong night. I hope HG will have the strength to go online asap.
Well, since you asked:
My concert buddy was an 11 year old who bugged her stepmom to go with me to see David Archuleta once my friend could no longer accompany me. Needless to say, my tween companion and I had a blast!
It’s great to play the “cool adult” once in a while and I in turn automatically got swept up in the teeny/tweeny crowd. Since I was responsible for someone else’s child, I was doing my best to keep up with her, so she negotiated a closer spot to the stage, and I – sensing the jam-packed crowd – immediately looked out for an EXIT sign. I spotted one not far from the stage, so we compromised and ended up only a few feet away, but to the side (stage right).
And we parked ourselves, edging our way as close as we could, everytime someone got out of our way. The first act, however, was just too loud and too generic a rock band, and immediately I knew the sound system was going to mess with David’s vocals. Not optimum, but my tween companion and I could care less. All we could think of was, “David Archuleta!” (And that was what everyone was thinking too!).
Second act – Gavin McGraw, and SF, you’re right. He’s awesome! He did a really nice acoustic performance on both piano and guitar (how cool would it have been if David did something similar). Gavin was also very generous, for he kept giving shout outs to David, helping to get the crowd in a tizzy.
Finally, my tween buddy and I started jumping up and down, “Is he here yet? Is he here yet?” The audience started chanting “David! David!” Waiting in the wings, I saw Jeff and his infamous hat. I get really excited, and next thing you know… David is up on the stage.
Squeeeee!!! (Cause you know I was screaming with the best of the youngins).
And David was really dressed down tonight (which pretty much went with the flow of the atmosphere and venue – very blue collar, bar-grungy type setting, if you can picture it). He’s wearing two t-shirts and jeans. And his eyes sparkled whenever they caught the stage lights. GAH!
He opened with TMH, and I was having a hard time balancing the video recording with my having to watch him, you know, LIVE, since I had to take advantage of the You Tube 3D version that was standing in front of me only a few feet away. When he came over on our side of the audience, there was a brief moment he made eye contact. Spontaneously, without even thinking about it, I blew him a kiss at that moment. He could so feel the collective love in the house.
My tween companion blurts out, “OMG! He’s soooo gorgeous!” (Hello Gorgeous indeed!)
I retort, “He is, isn’t he?”
He immediately launches into Works for Me! He also sang You Can, A Thousand Miles (which was beautiful, and the whole crowd sang along, but since the only accompaniment was a keyboard, the sound was much better), Crush (which everyone again sang along too), and ALTNOY.
He went by much too quickly (which is what everyone keeps saying), so if there is anything David needs to work on, it’s his timing and pacing. For instance, Gavin probably sang the same number of songs (unless he had extras, I’m not remembering), but his set felt longer (I know the first act dragged on – with probably the same number of songs). Why theirs lasted longer is probably the banter (Gavin told stories, and his storytelling was tied to his music, so his banter was much more tolerable).
All this is to say: I wanted more David, and so did everyone else. As soon as David said g’nite all, we were like, “That’s it?!” Needless to say, the crowd started chanting, “David! David! David!” and “We want more! We want more!”
So, he came back with his bashful self and his 1000-watt smile, and graced us with an a capella version of The Christmas Song. Soooo jazzy and smooth and sultry. Gosh! This kid! Vocal wisdom, I’m telling you!
I think it’s also a wonderful thing to keep your audience wanting more.
So, believe it or not, this is my first David Archuleta concert, and I’m definitely planning for concert#2. Preferably with better sound, because I want that David-seeping-into-your-body-and-soul sound that only a high quality surround sound system can deliver.
Not that I’m complaining. I mean, I saw him LIVE! And only a few feet away!
Oh! There was a point during the concert where David humbly asked the crowd to be careful to not crush some young children who were up front, and the crowd backed off. I mean, David can command an audience without screaming, raising his voice, using pyrotechnics, and all that stuff. He just is, and we listen, and we obey. Awww!
When I dropped off my tween companion home, her mom asked, “How was the concert?”
She immediately responded with: “OMG! David Archuleta was amazing!”
When she asked me, I said something to the effect of “OMG! David Archuleta was amazing!”
One tween and one thirtysomething in one night at one event. Not bad.
Go David!
Before I went home, I got to hang out with Kizzi, Ninaf, Happy, Refnaf, TOfan, Dja and a bunch of other fangirls. That was so much fun, and I’m glad to finally put some faces to the screen names. Kizzi, thank you sooo much for organizing this get together. It was a fantastic end to an amazing night!
