Tess,

You articulated the same thought I had when I watched David's acoustic performance of Crush from this morning. Usually, when an entertainer performs a piece live, I'm missing the background instrumentation and/or vocals or other production devices. With David, the exact opposite is true... the less the better. I am obsessed with the AOL sessions because imo they are so much better than the CD versions because they aren't "produced." His voice is really all I need.

This ODD is really something. I cannot believe I am still this focused on him. His face has become almost as familiar to me as my own children's. I am so aware that I do not know him, and yet, he is so dear to me. Thank goodness for this loving site, where I can come and be reassured that I am not out of my mind!

np1107, So sorry to hear that your lovely gesture felt compromised. But in the end, surely the most important part of that experience was that David was able to meet you, to talk with you, and to appreciate the love and beauty that went into your project for him. That part can't be touched by anyone.

Thanks for your thoughts, np1107. For the record, I don't believe there was even a single comment here about that photograph of the kind you refer to. I did see comments elsewhere.

At the risk of beating a dead horse (don't worry, the page will turn very shortly), the reason this subject ever came up in the first place is because David himself (allegedly) made a decision to, evidently, turn up the dial on his stage presence in some rather entertaining ways. Certain performance decisions (as I originally referred to this) have certain consequences, all of which are theoretically on the table for discussion in a blog that is primarily about David's performances. No one is mouth-breathing over random photographs; the subject was legitimately referenced as part-and-parcel of what appeared to be something of a "new freedom" in his performance persona. Period, full-stop.

A Thousand Miles is up to approx. 90,000 views at YouTube. This proves to me that David, even though Jive thinks so, doesn't need all of the studio devices to sing a song that will capture America's intention. Someday I will find the CD in the store from David, just him, a piano and a guitar.

I don't think there is any other young pop singer with the courage to sing a "religious" Christmas Carol at the end of a set at a pop concert, and then to do it Acapella. And to have radio stations play it...what are they thinking? The voice triumphs over cynicism.

More and more we are seeing the "real" David. The guy who wants nothing more than to bring music to the masses. He just LOVES singing live. It is his passion and his destiny. Aren't we glad that we are here to watch and listen.
