David Time
Two of our most devoted and talented Archies have produced rich tributes to spending time with David — one looking back, and one going forward. Caseydog, that venerable word-slinger on the Northwestern beat gives us an update to his remarkable DA timeline (David will surely treasure this someday), bringing to a close the inaugural year of the Archuletor’s rise to a steady glow in our hearts.
From phemomenal phan photog Jennifer Barry comes her 2009 Calendar, just in time for the fireworks. Click here or click the calendar to see all the months and to purchase.

Ronald: Glad you don’t mind me using your photo in the timeline! It’s a great one! You’ll see the work of several devoted Archies throughout the timeline, whether photos or videos. And yes, I intend to keep it updated, but usually at either two- or three-week intervals. It’s a bit of work. Also, the old videos sometimes die because of rights issues and I have to find new ones, so lots of maintainance time. Did you know that none of the “Crush” vids on Youtube are embeddable?
JackRyan4DA -- I would love to have contributions for the timeline, or rewrites to the text of existing events. There’s room to go much longer if you want to explain the significance of certain events. E-mail me at caseydog73@ yahoo.com
Thanks again to all the nice comments.
I found the sociologist’s take interesting; as I do research in pop culture, I have heard of that term “para-social” being used to refer to fans’ perceived familiarity with public figures. I don’t agree with his assertion that “most fans will have moved on.” Certainly, there will be a sector of people who will move on to the newest thing, as that’s the nature of celebrity culture, but he clearly doesn’t know much about David’s rabid fanbase and the community among them.
There’s a new Radio Mix of ALTNOY….

Kewl!
Rascal, thanks for giving Caseydog’s timeline the prominence it deserves … I just knew you would!
Freo #2, I thought the same thing when I read that bit about “fans will have moved on.” In fact, a quote from that wise philosopher Bugs Bunny came to mind: “He don’t know me vewwy well, do he?”
Kizzi, your last post on the previous thread choked me right up. “Kinda like a cyber-force for David with different point people foraying into different arenas of fandom.” Coool!!
Short interview in 17 Magazine -- (Are we SURE he’s only 18?)
Last year you told Seventeen you hadn’t had your first kiss yet. Any updates?
No! I’m still waiting for the right moment. I think so many people want to rrush things -- they want to rush hanging out, they want to rush making out -- and then it’s like they don’t even know the person they’re with.
You’re such a romantic!
I think girls get a bad rep for being emotional all the time. But I think a lot of guys are too. A lot of my guy friends, they really feel things deeply.
What else don’t girls know about guys?
Girls tend to blame themselves -- even when the guy is the one who messed up. My girl friends will tel me about something a guy did, and I’m like ‘that’s not your fault.’ Sometimes guys are just dork faces. But girls don’t see it that way.
Why do you think that is?
Guys and girls think about relationships differently. Girls say a guy is ‘so sweet’ and analyze everything he does. And a guy is just like ‘yeah, she’s hot.’ That’s why you have to take it slow. People want to be in love so badly that they throw themselves in it, without stopping to figure out if it’s real.
What would be your perfect Valentine’s Day?
I don’t think I’ve ever done anything on Valentine’s Day! But I think I’d like riding in a gondola. And then afterward going to get sherbet. I like to keep things light and fun!
Oh…and BTW…when asked what celebrity he’d take to the prom?
Jordin Sparks
hahaha!
Loved the interview -- with the exception of the first question. They have to stop this. It’s too personal. When he has his first kiss, is he supposed to announce it to the world? Are they going to ask him about every intimate stepping stone in his life? God forbid, it’s going to get way more personal, I fear.
On a lighter note, I loved the “dork face” comment.
Betsy -- I hope we never meet while you have Adam with you. I’ll steal him. I will. Better watch out! haha!
Ahhhhh…….my lovely Adam! The problem is, he’s never with me. They live so far away. I do talk to him every day on the phone. My daughter sings to him and I hear him laugh! He is one happy baby. Almost 3 months old now.
Hi Adam!! coochie-coochie!! David loves babies, ya know..I have the proof on video!!
Yay! For caseydog!! Not only will David treasure your timeline someday, but so will we, David’s FOREVER Fans!.. Take that, sociologist..you know nothing about David’s fans! In fact, sociologists may be scratching their heads in astonishment at how devoted and committed we are to this relationship we have with David Archuleta, cuz it’s not supposed to happen this way…but, it did and what a feelin’!!
The calendar is beautiful..but I have my own “homemade” one…not as “professional and beautiful” but it’s complete with stars, smiley’s, tears, kisses, etc. haha!
Soooo, where is our boy..uh, guy, today? Anybody heard from David yet? Not even FOD knows where he is. Absence truly does make the heart grow fonder..yeah it does!!
Wanna bet that “riding in a gondola” would soon be THE DATE TO HAVE by this generation? LMAO
Ya know, am not his parent, nor am I even related to David apart from being an admirer and supporter. And yet my heart bursts with pride for him just the same.
I once wrote to him (which pam05 of FOD so graciously helped in delivering), that one of the things I find remarkable with him and which I think should be heralded is how much he has honored his parents throughout this journey — and for all the world to see.
Not in terms of achievements per se, but more in terms of how he had accomplished his early successes. Even in the face of vile and condescending entities & at times untenable situations, David has remained poised, well-mannered and principled.
Given the devotion he has shown to his family and the gratitude he has expressed to his parents for supporting his decision to pursue his passion for music, I believe that’s why David works the hard work. It’s a way of giving back.
Brett in an interview said something very illuminating. He said that “…. this was David’s choice. His siblings didn’t choose this. His parents did not. But they all feel the pressure just the same”.
Giving his all in his pursuit of happyness
while maintaining his humanity and principles intact is no mean feat. We have Jeff & Lupe to thank for that. On the other hand, it is conceivable that David sees it as only befitting of his gift, this blessing that he has inside of him, to be shared for the greater glory of The Source.
These twin contexts I suppose are the reasons why his music mean so much to me
rascal, thanks for these two great David items. I am amazed and agog to see the talent and dedication of David fans. Yes, we are truly “in love” with this Voice and our love inspires the best in us. Kizzi listed some examples of ND’s “cyber-force for David” in the previous thread #280: “HG’s ATD blog, TOfan’s Good Deed blog, SF’s daily prayer and her daily dose of heart & soul, ronaldsf’s Ode and connection with IDF, caseydog’s timeline, jr4da and juliebug’s daily postings of what is going in David’s career.”
Oh, the things we do for David! I am amazed by both the passion and the selfless sharing of these connections.
This “cyber-force” at ND and other David fan sites is the visible part of the David love. Add to that the quieter, invisible, but equally passionate activity of an intimate heart-felt connection of someone watching “O Holy Night” on YouTube, or (as was shared in the last post) a post-surgery patient logging onto ND in the hospital hallway to reconnect with their David community. Because of David, we have an amazing and ever-expanding web of connections, both public and private, that enlarge our world and our hearts.
And no, the sociologist totally DOESN’T get it.
RASCAL -- am so glad you featured CASEYDOG’s timeline. I have been an avid follower of this work of his.
CASEY -- thanks for being accepting. Let me see what I can do. Thanks once again
JULIEBUG -- Jordin? That had me LMAO cos he kept saying she was at least a foot taller than him. Oh my adorkable David! Pls don’t ever ever lose that quality LOL
JR, Liz..you both have me in tears..the love and admiration you have for David, the awe you feel jumps out & right into my body, the “warm” chills rippling from my head right down to my toes!! And to top it off, I’m listening to “Love Me Tender” !! Waaaahhhh!
JR..about Jordin..David sees she is tall, but he sees her inner being, and that’s what counts and what matters to him! That is what makes David extraordinary, and why we can’t help but love him as we do.
But SF, it’s the prom! I also like Jordin -- not necessarily for him -- but yeah she is a sweet gal. But they still have to dance, right? Unless David won’t do a slow dance, then I suppose height won’t matter. Otherwise, it will be like that Twilight last dance scene in reverse! tee-hee

Jim Cantiello looks back at his favorite AI videos of 2008
‘American Idol’: The Best Of 2008, By Jim Cantiello
David Archuleta: Where Did He Come From?
“American Idol” is a lot like a political campaign, and the contestant’s high school is a lot like their campaign headquarters. We loved catching up with David Archuleta’s current classmates, but it was our chat with his childhood vocal coach that really opened our eyes. After our interview, he played us a brilliant demo of “Imagine” that Archie recorded when he was only 12 years old, half a decade before he pulled that song out of his back pocket on TV and floored all of us — the viewers, the judges, the other contestants — with one of the best performances in “Idol” history!
SOURCE: http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/1601895/20081229/archuleta__david.jhtml
David is such a refreshing throwback to “my day” when getting your first kiss was a milestone event. (mine was May 17, 1963, btw.) The song on the radio was “He’s so Fine” by the Chiffons. I do find the media’s preoccupation with David’s virginity a tad creepy. The problem may be that David, being so handsome and appealing, and a GUY, should be taking full advantage of his appeal to act like every generic guy does. Here’s the scoop to the media. David Is not like other guys. He’s special, he’s unique, he’s a “gem for the whole world to see”. Stop trying to water him down by asking him these moronic, pedestrian questions. He’s a musical genius and a force of nature. He’s not Jesse Mc Cartney, and he’s not David Cook. He’s way more evolved than these guys and others in and out of the music biz.
Sorry if I sound a little angry here, but I’ve been galled by these attempts to “normalize” David since Day 1. David is so tolerant and polite, it’s mind boggling. I guess he’s more evolved than me, too.
SEVENTEEN also had this article on the Z100 Jingle Ball
Seventeen Hangs Out With Celebs Backstage at Z100 Jingle Ball!
We got the chance to go backstage at Z100′s annual Jingle Ball concert and talk to some of your favorite musically-inclined celebs! So what are all those cool singers up to? Check it out!
……..
We also saw Peter Facinelli a.k.a. Carlisle from Twilight! He looks a little different without his face painted white… We got totally starstruck when we saw Katy Perry up close. Boy, is she sparkly! We also saw hotties Brody Jenner, Nick Lachey, and Ne-Yo and super-talented gals Leona Lewis and Brandy! But we almost fainted when Rihanna came by, which would have been totally humiliating. Luckily, another girl backstage won the embarrassment contest—she asked David Archuleta what he’s been doing since he won American Idol! He very politely said “Well, I didn’t win, but…” Maybe she’ll write in to Traumarama!
hehe
Bliss -- I keep wishing that David would find some ways to deflect, rather than answer the moronic questions about kissing / girlfriends etc. The questions are relentless!!
Oh -- so sweet that you remember the exact date and the music!! Sweeeet!
The sociologist may have gotten it right…for every other fan base in recorded history. I have been a fan/admirer of a few performers in my time. This is not that. This is something totally else. I have felt for almost a year now, that I am somehow caught in David’s gravitational pull. I can’t break free; I can not move away for a day or even one waking hour. I just revolve around in a constant orbit of listening to him, looking at him, reading and writing and thinking about him. A year now and a new one starting. The pull is not lessening but getting stronger. The sociologists had better do more research on this phenomenon. I can’t explain what has happened to me. In every other way I am a totally normal competent person. What the hell is wrong with me? Why is it never boring, never enough? OMG. I’m so obsessed and it is such a sweet obsession. I never want it to stop. And frankly, I don’t forsee that it ever will. This ain’t no ordinary love.
OK, get your magnifying glasses out guys, the scanned page of the 17 interview courtesy of DAVIDSBIGGESTFAN at IDF:

#19 Angelica -- other than being a true fan before, amen….”this is something totally else….caught in David’s gravitational pull.” Wonderful descriptors!
JR..David is a nice guy, he likes Jordin, doesn’t mean he’s really gonna ask her to the prom..but..
Bliss…You as funny as you are brilliant! Must have been QUITE a first kiss!! haha! I don’t even remember MY first kiss..but I think it was in first grade and I smacked the poor little boy! hahaha!
Liz…I’m just waitng for David to actually say, Yes I have had my first kiss!” Can you IMAGINE the HEADLINES!!
hahaha! who, where, when, how, WHY!!!! woo-boy!!
Angelica..That describes the feeling. It is David’s gravitational pull, & we may as well give up..David’s gravitational pull is just too strong..there’s nothing, and I mean nothing you can do about it…and who would want to. Even when we feel..”this is nuts, I have to stop”..he pulls us in again! I can’t tell you how happy it makes me that I am not CRA-ZEH..that what I feel is “normal” for someone caught in David’s GRAVITY!
JR..magnifying glasses??? I have those (that) photo etched in my brain..don’t need no magnifying glasses!
BTW…Doesn’t David look magnificent in those calendar photos..wearing The Suit…Only David could wear a suit like that and look THAT good!! **sigh**..
Not trying to start another “discussion” about the pros & cons of The Suit…just making an observation, that’s all! My shining Star!
What in the world will they ask him about his first kiss…? he should keep that one to himself…Interviewers get a life please and let David have his back……
SF FIRST GRADE?! Oh my… I was such a tomboy when I was growing up like I was still sparring with them, as in punching boys & making them cry, till I was in my 1st year high-school! And am barely 5feet -- so you could just imagine LOL!
Had my 1st kiss when I was in college already at 18yo… geez..am such a dork?
Juliebug, thanks for the interview, and JR, dfLIZ, Angelica & SF, wonderful posts.
Bliss #16, “He’s way more evolved than these guys and others in and out of the music biz.” So true.
Like his quote in the 17 piece, “People want to be in love so badly that they throw themselves in it, without stopping to figure out if it’s real.” How can he be so innocent one minute and so dang wise the next — it’s like a princess kissed Yoda and out popped David Archuleta!
Angelica #19 -- you descibed exactly how I feel too -- if it weren’t for everyone here at ND, I would be seriously worried about myself:):):) Thanks for putting how I feel into words!
SF -- I have news for you. You are CRA-ZEH!
just like the rest of us
the only diff is: you are the leader bwahahahahahahahahahahahaha
MUWAH!
ANGELICA -- seriously, every time someone comes here and expresses some form of ODD, most of us feel relief cos it reminds us that we are bot alone in this TENDER TRAP
Man, I remember that movie. I was in grade school, saw & heard Mr. Sinatra and I fell… real hard… those were the days!
TOfan #26, oh my god…this is priceless: “it’s like a princess kissed Yoda and out popped David Archuleta!”
#26 TOfan--…”it’s like a princess kissed Yoda and out popped David Archuleta!” Yes and yes and yes
ROFLMAO!!!!
SandyBeaches…ah, if only that would happen…but it’s “Shew Biz” and David is “Big News”..The stupid questions will continue to be asked…methinks David will NOT be the “Kiss & Tell” type anyway, so they can keep asking til hell (sorry David) freezes over..He will never tell.
TOfan…You have me rollin’…princess, kiss, yoda????
hahaha! David would love that, I think!!
In terms of the interview questions about kissing and such, if/when David does promo in the UK early next year to support the album and “Crush” release there, while this is incredible news, in terms of interviews David hasn’t seen anything yet. I hate to say it, but I wouldn’t be surprised if the British hosts ask him all sorts of sexual questions, especially if he does Graham Norton (check him out on BBC America if you’re in the USA) or Jonathan Ross….or if Ruby Wax interviews him, she won’t hold anything back. Hopefully his Jive PR rep in Britain will fill him in on the different TV and radio programs in Britain, and also some cultural differences with regard to media, too.
Also, maybe his rep will tell the hosts to back off a bit. I have noticed that the girlfriend questions died down a bit in the past month or so.
Snarky’s is reporting from another site that David was spotted in LV on his birthday:
David Archuleta, the American Idol runner-up who won 44 percent of the votes from last season, attended the Blue Man Group’s late show at The Venetian
ok TOfan… too much.. I needed a good laugh…came to the right place! Yoda! Yes… a wise old soul
Kizzi this fits right in with the cyber “force” for David you spoke about last thread. May the force be with us!
Angelica and mellowmom… (and others I may have missed) thank you for de-lurking… every now and then I have this strange feeling that I need to let “go” of David, but when I see more people accepting their ODD, I relize that there is no need to let go of somehting that only brings ,love, joy and new friends!
excuse bad spelling … eeerrrr
I love the tweaked ALTNOY radio mix! CHenson analyzed it nicely:
The acoustic guitar has been brought forward and there is a bit more bass definition and they have done away with some of the synth noise and made the drums sound more organic. It generally sounds a tad cleaner. Sounds like a tweaked production rather than a drastic re-mix.
So David spent his 18th B-day in VEGAS??? hahaha!
Now that is FUNNY and not where I would have expected David to be! Who would have guessed? We thought he was in Disneyworld..a child’s playland..instead he was in VEGAS..an adult’s playground!! hahaha!
Gotta get home…see ya later!
#35 refnaf -- “…every now and then I have this strange feeling that I need to let “go” of David”
I know that feeling; when I left the Atlanta Jingle Ball there was a shift in me and I left thinking whatever my subconscious “abducted” me for this year (because this is so out of character for me its not funny) is achieved; my sense of urgency was gone and replaced by a sense of peace. The need to check in daily for all things David still exists but the urgency is gone.
i am thinking I am in another phase of ODD (except I truly believe this “thing” that has me in its grasp isn’t a disorder--as in disease that needs healing--but an elemental human need,) So maybe, someone, somewhere will define what this phase is…or, perhaps, it is just me.
Caseydog, your timeline is awesome! So glad you had the chance to update it! Thanks!
Juliebug, that Seventeen interview is priceless!
Angelica #19, I could not have expressed myself any better than you have. That is EXACTLY the way I feel about David—a pull that just gets stronger and stronger. And, there is no way to explain it to ANYONE except to wonderful people like you—-I have tried with friends, family, co-workers,—I just feel the need to have someone to talk to about David that also feels the “pull”, so hence—the de-lurking!
Juliebug, thank you for sharing the Seventeen interview. He is so wise for someone his age—remarkable, really.
Caseydog, I spent about 3 hours yesterday going through your timeline. I have it under my favorites so I can get to it any time I need a David fix!
You know what I have often thought about? Wouldn’t it be something to have David just visiting at your house—sitting on your couch with your family around—drinking sodas—or, in his case, water, and just chatting. I can’t help but think that he would be one of the most interesting people to get to know that ever lived. I just bet he would have incredible insight in to almost any topic. Too bad that will never happen—but, I still can’t help but think how much he would teach anyone who listened.
Good evening everyone! Once again, I amazed at the talent possessed by David’s fans! Caseydog -- your timeline is fabulous! I can get lost it in for hours!! And Jennifer -- the calendar is beautiful! Your photos capture David so well.
Kizzi -- I am so sorry that I didn’t get to meet you in Atlanta. I hope your granddaughter is healing well. I’m envious that you have entered into a new phase of ODD. I would like to have my sense of urgency replaced with a sense of peace. I’m afraid that after seeing David in person, I feel more desperate than ever to see him again. Atlanta was my first close encounter, so maybe that’s why it kicked my ODD into complete overdrive. Perhaps the fact that the holidays are always a trying time for me & I’m on vacation from work until January 5 are adding to my insanity!! Getting back to a “normal” routine will probably help. Any words of advice for dealing with this “elemental human need” would be greatly appreciated.
Angelica -- I love your description too. I saw David for the first time at the Atlanta Jingle Jam. I was one of the fans who was in the hotel lobby with Silverfox the morning after the concert. When David stepped out of the elevator, I sat there chanting to myself, “just look at him, do not approach him, leave him be.” But try as I might, I could not do it. The gravitational pull was toooooo strong. I had to walk up & speak to him.
Mellowmom -- just like you, I have tried to find someone, anyone, in my circle of friends to share David with, & I’ve come up fairly empty. I have a couple of friends/colleagues who appreciate his voice & his personality, but after about 10 minutes of my gushing, they are ready to move on to another topic. They don’t get that I’m just getting started! So places like this & FOD have become havens for me! And to your dream of having David sipping a glass of water in your living room, I’d love to add having him sit down at my piano to play/sing a tune or two!! Ahhh, that would be heavenly!!
Liz -- You said, “I keep wishing that David would find some ways to deflect, rather than answer the moronic questions about kissing / girlfriends etc. The questions are relentless!!”
Actually, every time he doesn’t deflect, but answers the question simply and truthfully he more than likely has an effect on others struggling with these very issues. He’s not preaching to others. It’s ask and answer, done. Lead by example. The new Cool. Someone to emulate perhaps. Someone that makes it OK to say no to peer pressure.
There was a rather cool thread on IDF that I’ll link here
http://idolforums.com/index.php?showtopic=587971
about “What have you learned from David?” …but one comment struck me.
“That it’s much better to be yourself and let people accept you or not than it is to put up a front and pretend to be something you’re not. This seems really obvious but David is one of the few people I’ve seen who really lives by this.”
Just thinkin’ that if he has the effect he has on us and those of us that follow him…what will repeated coverage in the mainstream media do for those that don’t follow his every move? Just something to think about….
See you all later. Off to the salon again. From skunk to Red. haha!
Deb, yes, it WOULD be heavenly! My kids are all very musical--very involved in their high school music department--singing, dancing, playing instruments. WOW, what I wouldn’t give to have David harmonizing with them!
Two things I just need to add: Rascal, I have been visiting this sight from the very beginning. Just simply want to say “thanks” for creating it—you have no idea how much it has meant to me!
AND::HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY, DAVID! YAHOO!!
My daughter turned 17 on the 29th, (yesterday). She is one year and one day younger than you—-hmmmmm, perhaps you SHOULD come visit me at my house!!
TOFAN -- omgosh! “… yoda out came DA…” -- bwahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahhahaha. Thanks for that.
FREOFAN -- am familiar with Jonathan Ross… on account of his interviews with Daniel Radcliffe. Will check out the other 2 you mentioned. There is also this other guy from Australia’s The Rove? His name escapes me right now but he is also hilarious. Am sure he will fancy our David
#42 Deb -- Likewise disappointed that we didn’t get to meet in Atlanta.
I don’t feel compelled to meet or speak to David, but listen to his singing live, yes, oh my freakin’ goodness yes; the compulsion is of the ilk that I have not experienced before. I did speak to him once at an AI tour pre-concert autograph session and I can honestly say that it was a memorable experience but did not unravel or give me the answers to this mystery, enigma, riddle of ODD that has had me in its grips for most of 2008--lol.
I went to Albany and Atlanta Jingle things. Mr. Kizzi and I always spend one weekend in December in NYC. This year it was the z100 Jingle Jam weekend. I didn’t get tix to MSG b/c of the cost and the fact that I was able to go to ATL and Albany. Mr. Kizzi surprised me with tix (5th row from stage) and VIP passes the day of the Jingle Ball at MSG. We didn’t get to go to M & G b/c we didn’t arrive in NYC earlier in day but the concert was fantastic. I have to say that a concert with David performing after Kanye West and before Chris B (with a slew of performances prior like Katie Perry, Leona Lewis, Beyonce and on and on) was absolutely a revelation for me. (Mr. Kizzi is reading over my shoulder as I type and wants all the guys to know that Katie Perry is HOT! LOL) Back to my story--David was embraced by NYC fans with an enthusiasm that rivaled the biggest pop stars there that evening. Plus, his ATM was incredible, his smiles through out that performance were a riveting and beautiful window to his soul, and the audience sang along with such glee and warmth that I felt David was where he was meant to be and recognized for who he was by an incredibly sophisticated audience--I mean MSG has to be the acid test!! So Atlanta was his final performance of 2008 for the Jingle things and I think with all that I experienced, I felt true peace and a certainty for his career path. I just want David to realize what David wants.
Snarky’s is cellcasting the New Year’s Eve concert tomorrow night! I bet we will hear word from David tomorrow, after he gets back home from Las Vegas (?).
A good read… the 411 on the Top 40

Puts in perspective what CRUSH has achieved
Good Evening all!
As usual Bliss #`6, your comments are “on the money”..
It is hard for mainstream media to cope, I guess with what they have rarely seen befor, or have trouble getting!
SF and TOfan: Like your new avatar ( or do they just seem new)
Rascal: So happy to see that amazing time line front and center- great memories for a something wonderful year. Just when you think there are no “real” surprises in life- and you have kind of seen it all, or it all seems the same- ALONG comes David. .
i think that watching David’s career take flight this past year has become like a drug for alot of us. Every successful step he has taken brings a state of euphoria that is hard to pull away from and when it starts to wear off there is a desire for more. I can honestly say that some of my most joyful moments in 2008 were because of all the positive things that were happening for him. I think that deep inside all of us we have been rooting for the “good guy” to win. It’s the happy ending we’ve all been taught about since we were young.
This just in: David is singing at the Utah governor’s inauguration!
Freofan: That is cool re Utah gov…. I would like to see him sing at the Superbowl myself… I assume that line up is set- but we know he sings the National Anthem like no one’s business.
juliebug.#5, regarding the Seventeen mag Q&A..the last question…
What would be your perfect Valentine’s Day?
“I don’t think I’ve ever done anything on Valentine’s Day! But I think I’d like riding in a gondola. And then afterward going to get sherbet. I like to keep things light and fun!”
So David was in Vegas at the Venetian…guess what they have at the Venetian…a canal & GONDOLAS!!
Hmmmmm?? hahaha!
Rae#50 “Just when you think there are no “real” surprises in life-and you have kind of seen it all, or it seems the same-ALONG comes Daved.”
How often I have felt this same sense of wonder and gratitude. How could so much joy come into my life at a time when I had become so cynical and blase’? This is not the way it’s supposed to happen. I was supposed to grow gracefully old and leave all the surprises to those who had yet to experience so much of life. But life has a funny way of not turning out the way you expect it to. Imagine. The best IS yet to come.
I’m just trying to keep things here in rascal’s house… light & fun!!
( I still can’t buh-lieve he spent his B-day at a late night Blue Man Group show at the Venetian!)
Freofan #52 -- Yes -- he is singing The National Anthem and also acting as the MC. Our gov has cancelled having a big ‘hoopla’ in order to save money and is going to sign in as gov on the steps of the state capital. David was scheduled to sing at the original inauguration, but all was changed when the gov decided to scale everything down. Makes me wonder if David is doing it for free. I really don’t think he cares about the money and he has been wanting to give back to his Utah fans for a long time . . . just wondering . . .
juliebug #44
While I still believe that it’s okay for David to set some personal boundaries with interview questions, I like your idea that when David answers the invasive questions simply and truthfully, it can be a powerful example for others dealing with those same issues.
And the link you gave to the IDF on “What have you learned from David?” was just great. They list everything from stopping swearing to being comfortable with who you are to looking at others with more compassion. This link is a good read!
mamasaun -- What’s the date of the governor’s inauguration?
Kizzi #47 and Joner #51, great posts, hurray for the “good guy” to get his “happy ending.” I’ve been rewatching the AOL sessions … still awesome btw … and David’s are still in the top 3 most viewed!!
SF, #54, too funny, I thought the same thing about the gondola but only guessed Vegas would have a faux-Venice. Molto bene!
Happy, thanks for that beautiful blessing/poem on the last thread. Found this audio of the author reading it in his lovely Irish brogue:

LIZ -- the inauguration is Jan. 5 at 11:45 on the steps of the capital in SLC. The governor and several other state reps will be sworn in at that time. Should be nice and COLD.
Kizzi, you went to the MSG concert? And you’re just now telling us?? Your hubby must be a real honey!!
Stll waiting for a group photo from Albany!? Pleeeze?
David’s appearing at Hard Rock Cafe in Ny on 1/12, right? Then as a guest at the President’s inauguration. Now that Utah Gov’s inauguration, too!
mamasaun -- Thanks! Are you going?
And in February, Crush is released in the UK. If he flies there to do promo, he may be very busy in Jan. and Feb.!
SF- check your email.
OK. I’m back from the salon and now beautified…er….my hair is anyway.
LIZ -- I think he WILL set some boundaries when there is something to actually talk about. haha! He’ll want to keep the girl protected and the specifics of their relationship private. I don’t think he cares so much when it is just him…but when there IS a her…all bets are off.
mamasaun -- I don’t think he is MC’ing the inaugural. Just singing the anthem. I believe the article listed someone else as the MC.
SF -- regarding the gondolas at the Venetian. Noticed that, did you? haha! Me thinks he spied those when in Vegas during Top 4 week and it has been percolating ever since. And regarding spending his vacation in Vegas. There ARE lots of family things to do there…however, I suspect they were at a resort or ranch of some kind outside of town (lots of outdoor activities) and only came in town for his actual birthday…to eat and see a show, etc., before flying home to prepare for tomorrow night. Otherwise, I think we would have had a report of some kind before now of him being spotted around town. (shrug) Maybe we’ll get some hint in his next blog.
I think part of the problem the media is having is that David is both super popular and pristine at the same time. They want to cover him, but, there simply is no “buzzworthy” gossip to write about. Of course, that never stopped the media. The nonsense about his father is a classic example of the media making something up just to have something to write about a “hot property”. I remember when I was a kid, I’d have all these idiotic relatives always asking me about girfriends, or, when I got a little older it was “So, when are you getting married, Michael? from some twice divorced aunt. Maybe this is why I have such an extreme reaction when David is subjected to these intrusive and disrespectful questions.. I wish David was around back then so he could have coached me on how to respond. I was usually reduced to a blubbering fool by Aunt Sylvia’s questions.
Frankly,I am somewhat relieved that the questions to David are only about a kiss. In this “anything goes” media environment, David could easily be asked questions of a much more provocative nature.
The thing I love most about David is that he doesn’t preach about good behavior, he actually practices it. Watch him in action. It’s so effortless for him to be appropriate, forgiving, understanding, friendly, high spirited, and so on. I consider myself a hell of a nice guy, but compared to David, I’m Attila the Hun
If David appears on some of the British nighttime talk shows, it’s quite possible that the “kiss” questions will be quite innocent in comparison to what he may be asked. At the same time, I am dying to see how his dry humor will play out against some of those hosts!
lmao… lambliss… “Atilla the Hun”
Ok, so i was just watching the aol sessions again (gah :::swoon::: *thud!*) and I had this little daydream… next time one of those nincompoops asks the first kiss question again… David lunges toward the camera and lays a BIG ONE smack dab on the lens—then sits back with that little killer smile like at the end of the LA “A Thousand Miles” and says “Not BAD!” lol
…or maybe he could whip out a pillow in the shape of lips and say, “OK, lay one on me — right in the kisser!”
lol… yeah, Freo. I really did LOVE his table-turning “So, how was YOUR first kiss?” manoeuver, though. I must say. I was quite impressed. lol.
bliss..Do you MEAN to be funny or do you just have a
“dry wit” and just don’t know about it..ala David?!
methinks David will be JUST FINE!! So far he’s done a splendid job in all his interviews, and is just getting better.
So, where is David for New Year’s Eve?
The thing I love most about David is that he has nothing to hide, so he’s going to be as sincere as you see him and he takes it all in stride. He’s not embarrassed that he’s “never been kissed,” so if the question is asked, he’s not going to beat around the bush about it. He hasn’t been kissed is all, and he’s waiting for the right time when it will happen. If there is anything I have learned from David, it is to just be honest and open while still maintaining a layer of self-protection.
There is no pretense, and that’s why I believe the media can’t get enough of him, even when there’s no “story” there. David completely embodies WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get). He has not yet developed a full awareness of his public persona, or that he needs such an empty shell to protect his inner core. He is what he is, and he’s quite prepared for the public to either embrace him or reject him. What I absolutely admire about him is that he expects rejection (God knows why) but is completely appreciative when he gets the embrace.
That’s a humility you just don’t see in our entertainment world (or anywhere in our culture for that matter). He has a great capacity for humility, grace, and contentment that the rest of us could only hope to attain.
I’m still in awe that he’s just 18 (wow! 18 and not just 17 anymore). So much for this thirtysomething to learn from a teenager.
Happy new year, everyone!
One more thing:
what really gets me about David is that he’s all about humility without shame.
If we could all embody that…
LIZ -- The 5th is my first day back at work . . I’m a school teacher -- a reading specialist . . and if I’m not there, my students don’t get their lesson . . so I will work instead . . waaaaaaaaa.
Juliebug -- I heard about the MC part (and the singing) on the radio earlier today . . that’s all I know . . there is a web site about it all . . did you check that out? I really don’t know for sure.
SandyBeaches -- David is singing at a dance in Orem Utah on NYE at 11:30 -- at the David O McKay center. I am going to that along with smanda . . and I don’t know who else.
Back to my post #269 in the previous thread, on the uncut and hi-def version of the Q100 interview, finally the upload is complete.
I decided to upload part 2 1st cos that’s the interview portion. Part 1 covers the sales pitch of the 3 finalists and David surprising them. I attempted to do multiple uploads but my DSL was giving up on me intermittently yesterday.
Just in case anyone missed it or would like to keep a copy, here you go! As previously mentioned, aside from the insightful interview and mega gorgeous close-ups of David, the reaction of the DJs were very interesting during Jeff’s brief talk and esp the part where David sounded his “meanest”. It was hilarious!

Please email me your address to mlynnehc@yahoo.ca…I can answer your questions better,,,Thanks…
Happy..Thank you! Now ya’ll young lovely ladies can just call me mama! (or grandmama, I don’t care! ). haha!
HG..Same to you! Everything you said is right on! And you have been missed BTW!
And I have to work tomorrow, so good night all, and for David..
Dear Lord, Though we are unworthy to ask,
Please take Care Of David. Watch over him, Protect him from all harm. Cloak him with your love and give him the strength to endure all that is thrown in his path. Give David the courage and guidance to say no to those who ask for more than he can reasonably give. Surround David with loving and supportive people who love him UNCONDITIONALLY as we, his ARCHANGELS do. Separate David from those who have agendas other than for his wellbeing. Give him rest when he’s weary. Give him stamina to sustain his hectic pace. Give him assurance when he feels doubt. Give him joy when he feels sad. Cloak him always in your protective arms. Keep David healthy & strong as he fulfills his Destiny which was written in his Book of Life before he was born.
This, though we may be unworthy, humbly pray,
Amen.
Sweet dreams David, be safe & secure in our love always! Take care. You will always be numero uno in our eyes! Thank you for all you do and for just being you!
CONTIGO SIEMPRE CON AMOR!
mamasaun -- the 5th is the first day back for me also (another teacher). Please report back to us on the McKay event. Lucky for you and smanda to live in Utah!
SF: Sweet dreams my friend!
Hey guys, trying to keep away, but getting roped in to caseydog’s incredible timeline. What piece of work. I realize this is all very fangirly of me (I already hear clapping from the peanut gallery), but I just have to mention something I never noticed before (maybe you all did)… At the end of the audition performance of “Crazy” (which of course we don’t see), there is all this praise from the judges, and then there is a wide shot where David gets up from the piano and does the most endearing little bow I’ve ever seen. I don’t have many squeee moments but this was one of them. TFA (Too F*ing Adorable). The moment is at :47 on the “Hollywood Week is Heaven” entry (2nd on the line).
rascal -- we love it when you squeeee!
Squeee away, Rascal! Love it. I did notice that bow. Too precious. I can’t decide if he’s a throwback or a throwforward!
Keep Squeeing Rascal… and the backup singer wiping her tears at 1:52, gets me every time.
Ooh Rascal! Thanks for the trip down memory lane. I have to check out the video as I’m quite forgetting that little bow you’re referencing.
SF: AMEN!
G’nite all!
jackryan4DA #77 Thank you so much for uploading that video -- and it IS worth the long download time.
HG- Kennedy Center Honors on CBS tonight….saw your “hello gorgeous” line, thought of you, and had to smile………btw- beyonce and ne-yo were both quite good as part of the tribute to Barbra Streisand…. hey SF- how many years until David is performing at the KCH? (we know he’ll get his honor…. but too sad to think about where I’ll be then….) sniff, sniff… what a downer…
lol….. cute avi happy!
LIZ -- I’ll try to figure out how to use my camera . . then my kids can help me post them on the computer . . aren’t I pathetic!
Rascal -- I too had a moment while re-watching all the fun on the time line . . it was when David said (about the audition) -- “it was so cool, I was singing with Randy” . . no David . . Randy was singing with YOU!
caseydog -- thanks for the wonderful timeline and all your hard work.
hello gorgeous #74 -- from my limited perspective, your post is dead on. Thanks for your insight.
Caseydog, you are my hero. Your chart is amazing, brilliant, too cool beyond words. I salute you. I posted it on my blog. I just love it!
http://gengenw.pixnet.net/blog/post/24803876
Am not worried about David in as far as parrying the Q&A of hosts in a more adult setting. Cos he will be himself. He has no agenda except to spread joy through his music. He is not afraid to admit his limitations, ever polite in correcting misconceptions and is not apologetic for who he is nor ashamed to owe up to his dorkiness — which all in all make him more endearing to the public.
Funny thing is, sometimes he says something really small, really random, and it fits right into some empty space in my heart, you know what I mean?
Sure a lot don’t/won’t get him and refuse to get him — but I think that’s because he in effect taking us out of our comfort zone and in the end this amounts to owing up to one’s weaknesses. It is understandable that such prospects could be unnerving.
If one’s heart is open, then you let him in. And for those who don’t, they remind of whatPocahontas said in that Disney film “If I never knew you, I’d be safe but half as real”.
GUYS, the ever loveable AMY of Snarkies posted this:
“EEEE, GUYS, I AM WAY EXCITED. You know how one of the songwriters/producers of ALTNOY, Mike Krompass, cleared up how the radio edit is different from the album edit? Well, I managed to get him to agree to let me interview him. So I’ll be chatting with Mike sometime soon.
This is awesome, guys! Mike helped cowrite ALTNOY and Somebody Out There, both songs David ALSO cowrote, so not only is Mike a good authority on songwriting/production in general, but he really worked with D. I am way excited and have like a MILLION questions for him.
You guys have any questions you want me to ask him? If you have some good ones, I might add them on.
This is our chance to get those creative questions answered, esp on the most exquisite song in his album!
caseydog -- I am loving your timeline. Thanks for all the time and love that you put into this. I thought I had seen every little speck of news about David, but I am finding some new material and enjoying some old favorites. One thought -- would it make sense to add O Holy Night -- one of my all-time favorites? This performance on December 6th had a huge impact on so many.
kizzi39- am pondering your post… requires too much thinking for late at night….
good night all. thanks for the fun.
I’ve been away for a few days, just got back and have been enjoying catching up. It is so nice to set things aside and just enjoy the wonderful world of David and friends.
I have been thinking about what it is that draws me to David and why others remain unaffected. I have decided that my spirit just recognizes his spirit and on some level I know what a great, wonderful, and gifted being he truly is. And to all of you, it takes one to know one!
Caseydog, I love your timeline. What a wonderful way to end this amazing year! I’m sure it was a labor of love but still, it must have been a daunting task, and I appreciate it. Thank you! Also love Jennifer’s calendar and can’t wait to recieve it. So…wonder what the New Year will bring? Knowing David, we are probably in for a wild ride.
Jackryan4da, I don’t worry about David answering questions either. He doesn’t try to impress or be cool. He simply tells the truth and is unapologetic about it. Then he turns that winsome smile on them and bats those lashes and they’re mesmerized into putty. Haha. I love him.
Silverfox, in answer to your question, with all due lack of modesty, I know when I’m at least trying to be witty. I’ve been told that I have a sharp wit, but I have passionate views on many issues, and a low tolerance for small minded people who refuse to examine what they think they know.
Like so many people on this and other sites, I am passionate about what I have seen so far of David. What I see is a brave young man, grounded in fairness, kindness, good humor, and a warmth and humanity the likes of which I have never witnessed. In his own way he is a Renaissance man in that he cannot be categorized as one thing or another. People are reacting to him in extreme ways. This is a sign that he is making an impact. The medium he uses for change is music. People love music. David is a magnificent singer. That means people will pay attention to his music first, and then to him. That is exactly how the Beatles did it. David isn’t out to change the world, but in less than a year, he’s already made an impact. There was no passion when Kelly went against Justin on AI1.It was all very lighthearted and fun.
This year the finale was “must see” TV and people are still talking about the result. It had little to do with who was the better singer. This would not have happened if the final 2 were Carly and Cook. It was all because of David. Why? Because he’s cute? I don’t think so. If all he is is cute, why do people have such strong feelings about him ,pro and con. That can only mean that he is seen as some kind of threat to the status quo. Donny Osmond was not a threat. Bobby Sherman was not a threat. They were cute guys who could sing. Why do people care so much about some kid from Utah who has a great voice.? It’s Elvis 1956 all over again, only better.
bliss--AMEN!!!-- I’ve felt for a long time that we are in an Elivs type era again. David is new and unchartered. He is his own person and music. We need to buckle up and enjoy the ride that he is going to be taking us on.
jr4da #77--my computer spent almost an hour downloading the video file, then wouldn’t open it--bummer.
tawna21 -- what are you using to open it? Do you have VLC player? Download it from here so you will not have problems of playing any type of media file, ever again
:
http://www.download.com/VLC-Media-Player/3000-13632_4-10267151.html
That’s from CNET so it is a safe site.
BLISS -- there was a time when anyone would make comparisons with Elvis is considered sacrilege… now, at least in our community, that isn’t so anymore. Am glad that you also consider him a renaissance man. Gladder still that you are posting more often now
BTW, has this been posted?
http://blogs.sltrib.com/burger/2008/12/huntsman-and-archie-sitting-in-tree.htm
Has there been any announcement on who would sing the anthem for Pres Obama’s inauguration?
And BLISS, since you mentioned David & Elvis in one clean swoop, take a load of this!

Happy, sorry I missed the Kennedy Honors. I completely forgot to watch. Thanks for thinking of me.
Emmegirl, thanks for your feedback.
Good morning everyone! Hope your New Year’s Eve will be a fun and joyous occasion.
Until nex time!
Has anyone posted this: David Archuleta to sing at Huntsman’s inauguration:
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- “American Idol” star David Archuleta will sing the national anthem at Gov. Jon Huntsman’s inauguration.
Archuleta is from Murray and also sang at Huntsman’s first inauguration four years ago.
This spring, Huntsman declared May 9 “David Archuleta Day” before an Archuleta performance at Murray High School that was filmed for the television series.
The inauguration will take place on the front steps of the State Capitol just before noon Monday and is open to the public. Seating will be limited.
In addition to Huntsman, Lt. Gov. Gary Herbert and Attorney General Mark Shurtleff will also be inaugurated. The ceremony is expected to last about half an hour.

It is also reported in Deseret News, KUTV UT and Salt Lake Tribune
I never noticed that sweet bow before. I’m telling you, I love this timeline so much. I can revisit so many great moments in one fell swoop. I’ve rewatched “Heaven” three times this mornng! And I am trying to get ready for work. I am doing my makeup at the computer. I have to ease up on this obsession.
But I love this part -- “we were young and wild and freeee”!
Looks like clear and cold (about 24 degrees) at the New Years Eve bash in Orem Utah tonight. But I’m sure it will be pleanty warm inside the arena where David will be singing! I can’t wait!! He is supposed to sing around 11:30 MST. squeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
JR #103 -- that video -- WOW! I love, love, love it -- what a nice way to end this year and start 2009 -- I’ll be watching this many times over. Thanks!!! I can’t wait for SF to see it too!
caseydog -- thank you so much for the time line -- I had some problems viewing it, but I finally got that settled last night -- now I know I’ll be spending lots of time there too. I thought maybe I’d have some more time to devote to my “other” life in 2009, but…………
I wish all my friends at ND Health, Happiness & Peace in the New Year!
bliss99- “I have …. a low tolerance for small minded people who refuse to examine what they think they know.”… if that is true you must be annoyed much of the time… maybe you should just scream out “serenity now!”
how about that dinner with me, you, and ninaf?… now that would be fun…. we can talk about diversity, religion, and politics… I’ll supply the “shiksappeal” (see, even non-New Yorkers love Seinfeld…)
Bliss #99..I know what you mean. Which is exactly why I stopped reading reviews and disregard interviewers boring questions. I used to get so upset to the point of tears! Stupid, dumb, idiots I’d yell at the top of my lungs! My son in the next room would ask what the heck was wrong with me? I realized I was spazzing out, giving myself a stroke over some stupid comments by individuals who mattered not one iota. So I decided to mellow out and I will not read or listen to any negative press or comments. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but it doesn’t mean I have to hear or read about it.
I love reading your posts, your obvious love & admiration for David, and I understand your anger towards the imbeciles out there who don’t see in David what you, I and now, millions and counting, enlightened people see. I’m not angry anymore, just very sad that they are missing out on this most exquisite experience.
BTW, My sister and I saw & met Elvis up close & personal in Vegas and our home town. Will never forget those experiences and thought I would never again see, in my lifetime another like Elvis. Elvis was a very beautiful man..and a very lonely, sad man, even surrounded by all the people who “loved” him. The only similarity I see between Elvis & David is their beauty, and the immense love & popularity. That’s where the similarity ends. Where Elvis was weak, and allowed himself to be manipulated and used, David, I think, is strong and will not allow himself to be led down a wrong path. Elvis had the talent to do so much more than he did and it made him miserable that he could not break free to do what he wanted.
David is just getting started. We are so mesmerized with what he’s given us so far..I can’t fathom what we have in store, more compositions, more glorius music, and even acting. We continue to compare David to many artists, past & present, but in reality, there will never be another like David Archuleta, The Voice. Let the naysayers say what they want, doesn’t change the facts..David is the whole package. Perfection.
archiesfan..uh..I saw the video this morning as I was getting ready for work. Both gorgeous men. I was so young when Elvis came on the scene..loved him so much..but he didn’t “change” my life. David, on the other hand did. My appreciation for David goes so much deeper and is on a higher level than what I felt for Elvis.
And there are many more photos I have seen that show the profound beauty of both men, those are just a few.
Guys Please have a wonderful and happy time this evening and I hope 2009 is your best year ever! You guys are so wonderful!
I just realized that David is singing tonight at 2 am my time. Guessing my jaguar night skills will just have to kick in for the party. I have a feeling it will be a fun time for all.
Happy New Year!
mamasaun…now you make sure David is warm!! I know he’ll be HAWT!! ..but you know what I mean!
Have a great time..and I’ll be wishing I was there and regretting I didn’t go!! Take care & be safe!
kimk..you are wonderful too..Wishing you the Best in the New Year!
JR4DA -- Thank you so much for posting the interview video … I thoroughly enjoyed watching it. Are you going to post the other part as well? I had the pleasure of meeting 2 of the 3 contestants (Karen & Kathleen) in Atlanta; they were both just charming!
Mamasaun -- I hope you have a glorious time tonight! Over at FOD, someone posted an article from a SLC newspaper saying that David will be also be singing at the first show tonight with the Osmonds. BTW, I’m an elementary teacher too!
#74 HG -- great post and rings true for me! Your insights add so much for me in this David fan adventure!!
#62 SF -- I did go to MSG and for some reason I needed to keep it to myself--I wasn’t planning to share it but it popped out last night. It was an absolute fantastic experience including the minute long rain of confetti at the beginning of the concert and the rotating stage and the various pop acts. Saw Chris B, Ne-Yo and Jesse McCartney all of whom share the same target audience with David so it was heavenly for the analyzer in me not to mention a fun evening for Mr. Kizzi and me as we haven’t been to a top 40 pop concert (for ourselves) since college days. So I got to go to three Jingle things in 8 days--pretty intense ODD, huh?!!!!
Happy -- let me know what you come up with about post #39. I am really looking at this fan journey through different eyes since Atlanta and the peace and certainty that have replaced the urgency and ambiguity is soooooo very sweet!
Bliss -- I am so enjoying your comments and perspective. My hubby is retired from psychiatric social work, direct services, then administration, plus worked with the state government in mental health law at the end of his career--Social Workers Rule! It is so true that we are all trying to define a phenomena that words and past experiences don’t seem sufficient to define--it is so energizing to read the posts from others, looking through their eyes as David’s music career unfolds. Thanks!
My house if full of grand-babies from 2 -- 13 yo. We have 2 rules when we are together--love & laughter to the max--doing our family fireworks this evening to welcome in the New Year so tonight there will be a ton of kids, a ton of fireworks and oooh’s and aaah’s galore through the eyes of children—woohoo!
Happy 2009 to all! May love and laughter fill the coming year for you and your loved ones!
Hi Silverfox!! Happy New Year to you!! Can you work a little magic & get our guy to send us a blog or a vlog or a voice message? Pretty please!!
Happy, I don’t let most of the small minded stuff get to me, but I do find that I have a very defensive nature when it comes to David. Even though he is a master of deflection when he’s asked an inappropriate question, I feel that people are taking advantage of his open and good nature to further their own agenda. I have also noticed that David is not intimidated by female interviewers, and has turned the tables on a number of them when it was called for (Kathy Griffin may never recover, along with Show Biz Shelly ). David is getting thw word out that every one will be treated with the same respect and accountability. When Show Biz Shelly tried to hide behind her “interviewer” status, David immediately reminded her that she was just a person, and if she could ask personal questions of him, so could he of her. She looked like she was in shock. Kathy Griffin immediately ended her “set” with David after he took complete control of her “schtick”. She also looked shocked when David gave her that look and asked her “Do you sing”. That was classic.
Silverfox, an ironic note about Elvis and Vegas. When Elvis first hit the scene in ’56, he was booked in Vegas. The Vegas crowds in those days was basically gambling men and their wives /girlfriends. Elvis was not well received and basically, flopped. The Vegas crowd wanted to see Sinatra, Tony Martin, Eddie Fisher, Jo Stafford, and the other middle of the road singers of that time. Elvis was seen as an intruder. Of course, when Elvis came back to Vegas in the late ’60s and ’70s, he rewrote the record books and singelhandedly made Vegas a “younger” town, paving the way for contemporary artists to headline there. In short, Elvis helped make Vegas the mega town it is today.
Elvis was only allowed to tap into a portion of his talent. He would have been a great actor, especially in later life. The similarity to David is about his talent and his connection to the public. David is much more grounded and aware of the pitfalls of superstardom, and has a strong support system around him at all times. Elvis, although the greatest singer/performer of the 20th century, led a tragic life and died prematurely because his so-called “posse” was too itimidated by him to intervene on his behalf. That will never happen with David. One thing I do regreat is that there are no longer the great variety TV shows (Ed Sullivan , Steve Allen, Dean Martin, etc.) that showcased the great singers of their day. David would be seen on a mass prime time level by all age groups, and his rise to stardom would be meteoric. As is is, he’ll still get there, but it ‘ll be a little moe measured in terms of time, which may not be a bad thing after all.
The bad times of 2008 were horrible and gave us the worst year yet…stress nearly had me at the end of 2008…family house set on fire with a fire bomb by arsonists that they don’t seem to care to find…a terrible experience with breakins days before…and on and on…Where did all that come from in a college town?
But, here in 2009, we have a grandson…sweet little guy…and our first grandchild…then there is the discovery of David (of course we saw him in 2008 first)…but all of you are here as well… and everything good is possible…So thankful for David, his music and his admirers…2009 will be a good one…!!
