Who Are You and What Have You Done With David Archuleta?

We saw strong indications of it Sacramento, but the fancams from last night’s Z100 Jingle Ball reveal a level of command over the stage that had me wondering… Who is this scarf-strewn rocker boy?!
Z100′s Jingle Ball 2008 at Madison Square Garden in New York City reportedly drew a crowd of almost 16,000, easily the largest audience David has ever performed for. But did the magnitude of the crowd or the importance of the venue overwhelm and intimidate little Archie, the kid who once had to be coaxed into singing in front of small groups of relatives and friends at backyard picnics and holiday parties? On the contrary. David (I think it was David) strutted around that stage like a Mick Jagger in-training, tossed off city shout-outs like a headliner, and powered through his pop repertoire with enough passion to reach the rafters of the premiere concert arena on the planet.
Like anyone on a steep learning curve, David’s trajectory will inevitably be subject to bursts of progress, plateaus, fall-backs, and more bursts. I think the exciting thing about last night is not that it was a burst, but that we might be seeing the arrival of a new plateau. David’s marked improvement with stage dominion–the biggest gap I observed during his summer performances–has been growing more consistent, even as he steps up his game.
It bears repeating that what is ultimately most exciting about this is that David is not a stage prodigy but a vocal prodigy. Most people who gain pop music fame as teenagers do so because of their stage performance talent more than their musical ability. The reason they are inevitably challenged in their capacity to evolve their career is bacause the power of presentation is fleeting; the work is more about style than substance. David is the opposite. The fact that he is really starting to kick it up stage style is gravy–just imagine the feasts to come.

Yes, he is our scarf-strewn rocker boy! Did you all see the back-stage interview where he awkwardly rambled on about all the other artists and how unworthy he felt. I can understand his awe and nervousness, but once he is on-stage, something else takes over. THIS is where he is meant to be!
Spectacular performance. David and his legions of fans.
Interesting…”The magnitude of the crown”
Morning!
rascal..Oh my heck! how can anyone “pick just one” of each category for The Archie Awards?? David has made this year into one BIG monumental award winning experience for me! There hasn’t been a single day since the end of AI that David has not said or done something that endears him to us even more! Every interview, every performance is special in our hearts.
David has made this past year a source of joy and light, for me anyway, in an otherwise very intense & cloudy time in our country and the world.
I could not love him more if he was my own child ( or make that, grandchild..ouch! )!
But I will TRY to “pick just one” in each category!
Now about last night..again it was just David, THE VOICE, his band & a mic..no gimmics, no pyrotechnic lights, no dancers..just our David, in all his GLORY, doing what he was born to do!
I am so dang PROUD of David, THE VOICE! I can hardly stand it!!
You go, David, love, YOU HAVE ARRIVED!!!
Oh, Rascal. That’s why yours is one of my last stops in the evening and one of my first in the morning. Love what you say and how you say it.
I wasn’t really nervous for David, but I did think about how he’d do with such a large audience. He just connects so well, and he seems to always have in mind that he wants his audience to enjoy the performances, and I don’t know how he can go wrong with that attitude.
But you are right… his growth curve since Idol is astounding.
Too much to handle already this early in the morning. Wow, did David nail it last night! I think that was the best performance yet! TMH was so amazing! I think he was really pushing himself and challenging himself to become the performer he wants to be. He is so humble and in to interview said he wasn’t worthy to be on the same stage as the others, it’s actually the other way around. The other performers will remember when they had the privilge to share the same stage as David!
erin4david -- “The other performers will remember when they had the privilege to share the same stage as David!” Amen to that!
Good Morning Rascal and Everyone,
As a commenter on Snarky’s said for the first pic -- “The finale night face is back”. and I’ll add to that -- the fierce hunkerdowns are also back -- TMH, ALTNOY .
David is simply amaaaaaazing!. Such passion in his face and also his voice. To see him at his personal zenith -- makes me happy. GAH! I looove this kid!
Wow! David is learning how to connect with an audience (whether it’s in a small local joint or the 16,000+ plus venue of Madison Square Garden). I’ve said that all David needs to learn is how to magnify his amazing personality and that sense of intimacy he brings to his performances and to his connection with fans. He’s learning fast!
Rascal, I love the title to today’s post.
David continues to astound and amaze.
David steps up his game when it really matters, or at moments that are most significant to him: AI Finale Night, Tour Finale Night, Madison Square Garden.
As great as David was during the AI Tour, he was also somewhat limited because he was singing other people’s songs, within a realm of choices that was constrained by AI. Now he has much more freedom and can do his own songs. And not being billed next to AI contestants, but next to established artists, is making him realize he needs to step up his game and that he IS a star. I think all this helps explain why he is “busting loose” lately.
Ewww!
Sorry, I’m multitasking with the TV on (it’s still on VH1, since I was tuning in to see Crush at #1 again earlier this morning), and they’re doing “Best Year Ever.” They just featured David Cook (having the best year of 2008 since he got to beat the Archulator…in the words of Vulture, “Shut up, Cook! …People voted for you ironically!”). Anyway, while he was “arm-farting” (charming), his shirt revealed that he’s got a flabby tummy.
Blech! Ack! Yuck! How did this David win again?
Only a cynical America would choose Joe Regular over Adonis…What the heck?!
Sorry, I had to rant because I accidentally looked up at my TV to see that blasphemy. I need to turn the TV off or at least change the channel.
*Changes channel.*
ah, raz is happy, i am happy and the giant crowd back there went nuts! strutting and yelling like a mick, lol!
yes raz, the power of youth!!
we are just so blessed to witness how the gifted kid shares his blessings to the world and his joy in self discovery!
so let us cheer him on and cheer him well! wooooohoooooooo!
I’m sure this has been posted already, but it’s worth rewatching this great video of David’s “A Thousand Miles” from last night, in light of Rascal’s post. It’s a joy to see how, in front of 16,000 people, he is simply LOVING performing and connecting to the music!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6OgGT3PFTYk
He’s beginning to learn how to put on a great rocker show, but the fact that he can still “connect” so naturally and assuredly with such a huge audience speaks volumes.
ronaldsf -- #12 -- The smile burst during the piano intro (:35) on that performance is priceless.
Rascal, Awesome post and thread. I *love* the photo of him at the top, with the mic by his side and surveying the crowd. That is a gorgeous photo and one of my all-time favorite David images.
Rascal,
IDK if you already do, but if you had a category for the best title of one of your posts -- THIS WOULD BE IT -- to quote a certain someone -- IT’S AWESOME!
BTW I’m looking at VH1′s Best Year Ever -- granted it’s a comedy show but while our David is bathing in the afterglow of performing in MSG, David Cook was just (making a fool of himself in my opinion) -- doing armpit farts. He also introduced himself as “Hi, I’m the David who won American Idol”. I know it was probably done in jest but I’m more inclined to believe that if he could shout anthing out loud to the entertainment world -- this would be it -- LOL!
Anyone seen any reviews of last night’s show? I haven’t seen anything in the New York Times’ paper edition or online. Maybe a review will be online later or in their Sunday paper. There was a brief paragraph write-up preview to the concert on Thursday, but it only listed the performers and a tiny bit about the concert format.
Rascal #12, BIG OL’ GRIN!
I know he’s about to turn 18 and all, but it’s so wonderful to see the giggly, bubbly kid come out every now and then. He loves music so much!!
I just watched the Crush video from MSG for the first time, and now I see what you mean, Rascal. Chills! I think we need to add Archustomp to our vocabulary because he was BRINGIN IT!
Love your post and that performance of ATM… he just looks sooo happy. And he sounds amazing…as usual, his version of ATM puts the original to shame. I can’t even imagine the “feasts to come.” I am past worrying about him now, he is taking this journey at lightning speed and soaring past reasonable expectations. My only dilemma is feeling a little frustrated that he says he doesn’t consider himself “worthy” of sharing the stage with these more established artists. On the one hand, the humility is charming, and as we know, not in the least contrived. He really feels that way. On the other hand, I don’t like feeling like he’s putting himself down. Anyway, I don’t have any answers… it’s just something I’ve been pondering today.

Bonnie Hunt mentions the auction
IDK if you already do, but if you had a category for the best title of one of your posts -- THIS WOULD BE IT -- to quote a certain someone -- IT’S AWESOME!
Agreeing with Joymus here. Actually, Rascal, where is the glaringly absent category, Best David Archuleta Fan Site? I would love to nominate and vote for Noting David.
Of course, I could go on a roll here. I’ve already added a Best Vocal Improvisation category, along with this one. I’m inclined to add a Best Remix Category too (nominating Sonic Ether’s Think of Me and Mike Rizzo Funk Generation’s Crush)!
HG, Best Vocal Improvisation is a great category!
If I could add one it would be “Best Latino Moment”. I just love when he mentions his latin roots, especially his Abuelita
Did u see that new video when he rattles off the names of all those latin dances that his mom does? caliente!
HG, Do you have any say in adding categories to the nominations? If so, I am with you on nominating Noting David for the best David Fan Site. This is where all the classy, good looking, descriptive, energetic, smart, fun loving David Archuleta fans are isn’t it? ( I could’ve gone on, but trying to stay HUMBLE)!
Great post, Rascal, so true. I love how David’s been sprinting across the stage, scarf flying behind him like Snoopy as the Red Baron, small but mighty, focused and fierce. What courage has he … I alternate between awww and awe.
HG #20, “I would love to nominate and vote for Noting David.” Yessss!
BTW…The Archulator is looking scrumdillyicious! (sp)?
About Cook…if you have to tell people you won…well, then there is something wrong with that. I remember thinking if the role was reversed, would Cook embrace David the way he did….don’t think so. There was a reason and a blessing why David didn’t win Idol, HE DIDN’T HAVE TO!
Erin, I think you have a good point there.
yeah Erin!!! I concur!
Erin…no truer words were ever spoken.
LM, Best Latino Moment is a good one!
Archangel48, thumbs up on your assessment: “This is where all the classy, good looking, descriptive, energetic, smart, fun loving David Archuleta fans are isn’t it? ( I could’ve gone on, but trying to stay HUMBLE)!”
This is also the fan site that scares the bejesus out of others. The first time I posted on IDF, someone confessed that they’d been afraid to post on Noting David. They didn’t think they were smart enough! ha ha!
That’s a helluva reputation, dont’cha think?
Every year, our company helps needy families. This year our department had a small family of four. I chose to help with the 12 year old girl. She wanted a radio. Well, we got he a CD player/radio and of course, David’s CD. I wrote a note to on how David’s music can see you through anything. I’m so excited for her and for her family. Spread the cheer and spread David’s music!
Erin, truer words, as Janey said. Not only is something wrong when you have to remind folks that you won the dang thing, but puh-lease don’t show off your flabby tummy!
Where are the words to describe this man, this person, this icon, this kid, this wonder, this angel, this enigma, this symbol of love personified; this intoxicating, provocative, completely addictive riddle?
I am at a total loss. I only know if he does get any better, it most certainly will be the death of me.
HG, Janey, the amazing thing about David is, that he would never act the way Cook does….it’s that why we love him so much! David doesn’t have an ego, which is just amazing to me. He is such a spiritual being…
23 TOfan -- Love your “alternate between awww and awe.” You said a mouthful with 5 words.
rascal: You are THE hard sell; that you see this now and posted such an acknowledgement of David’s progress is so heartwarming and celebratory. *cheering and applauding*
HG & Joymus: That Cook has to tell people he won American Idol seems more like he feels he is a little forgotten since tour ended--lol--seems like a back handed compliment to David, no?
Archangel48: I met the most intelligent, savvy and sophisticated people ever at Northern Lights; you are sooooo right about NDer’s.
momofteens: I agree; he is the master of his destiny and he knows it; no worries for us on that. I think he just was in awe at MSG and said what first popped in his head. At the end of the interview he did acknowledge he shouldn’t have said that. I do really believe it will happen in time that he will see where he fits in the BIG picture of pop singers.
Erin and HG,
To make matters worse after he said -- I’m the David who won American Idol, he followed up by saying -- Suck That -- Archuleta or something close to that effect. As I mentioned earlier, in the spirit of that show -- it could have been all jest but to me it was tasteless.
I love the extra suggested categories esp. Best Latino Moment.
very tasteless…..show some class Cook
TOfan -- Great post. Loving the imagery with the scarf. I knew it reminded me of something but I couldn’t put my finger on it -- LOL!
IMHO -- ALL the MSG performances topped Sacremento.
I am trying so hard to put Cook in his proper place in my life — which is nowhere. His music doesn’t speak to me so he shouldn’t impact my life — but I do want to say that the VH1 skit by Cook seemed, to me at least, to be perhaps a little declaration of independence by him. I see him as the guy who showed up at the auditions with the orange streak in his emo hairstyle. He doesn’t want to be Mr. America. His fans seem to love the skit — not sure how such antics would go over with nonfans. Maybe with mixed results?
The “suck it, Archuleta” sticks in my mind, though. I guess I just don’t understand the saying. I know it’s a sort of thumbing of his nose at ‘the one who was supposed’ to win, but the phrase … just … disturbs.
Who else has the biggest grin on their faces for no apparent reason -- outside the Archuniverse, that is?
My cheeks actually hurt! I’m bursting with pride and od’ing from so much cuteness or hotness, I don’t know! Crush was amazing. TMH was too, but I felt the audience was caught off-guard and needed more time to react accordingly, the recognition coming later with the last two songs. It will be interesting to observe what new doors this might open for David. Great job, kiddo!
Hi everybody, my name is Mike. I’m an “older” guy (50s),live in the NYC area and work as a Social Worker. Enough of me. I have been posting on YouTube for many months about David, and I’ve read of few references to those posts here. Thanks for that.
I’ve been a pop music “nut” for my entire life and, like David, love the history of pop music and its artists. I’ve been watching AI since it began, primarily because the contestants sing music that I can remember loving as a kid and beyond.
As for David, what can I say? Like everyone here, I adore him. I think he is the most genuine, warm, sincere person I have ever seen. His humanity and inner beauty leap off any screen he’s on and nourishes my soul. As a singer, he is without equal in today’s music scene, and one of the very best pop singers of the Rock era. He takes classic songs, sung by the most successful artists of our time, and makes them contemporary and, in many cases , a better song. His AI versions of “Imagine” and “Love Me Tender” elevated these anthems to heights that even the original artists could not accomplish.
This is a great site. It treats David as the artist he is, and does not patronize him with the “lettuce boy” and Do you have girlfriend” nonsense. I look forward to being a regular and welcome all of your feedback. One of the best things about David is that he brings together good people. I hope to be accepted as one of you.
41 lamblisskaden/I only occassionally post here at ND, (yes, it’s awesome), but am honored to have you here. Have read your comments at youtube for months and always appreciated them. I think you have helped to open some people’s eyes to David and help them to understand his true artistry. So looking forward to your posts.
Is 50′s really “older”? Dang!
Hi Mike #41 (sorry, kept messing up the typing of your screen name, lol), welcome, you are among kindred spirits.
Erin, #30, what a lovely gift — a special one that will bring so much joy, as we all know!
kizzi~ check your email, i resent the pic..
~nominating rascals NotingDavid is a must…FTW !!
as our rocker boy’s EPIC moments continue to pile up so do Cook’s tasteless classless moments…but thats Cooks problem…something he has to live with..oh well…the only thing they have in common is their first name…
oh and what is that I hear coming from Shorty’s room…oh it’s…David Archuleta !!! ..yup, he is a fan !!
#41 blisskasden/Mike -- I have always enjoyed your Youtube comments almost as much as David’s performances themselves I’m glad to see you here!
As for Cook, he is going to need more and more to remind people that he was the “winner.”
Blisskasden, I LOVE your YouTube posts! You’re a great champion of David!
Hi Lamblisskasden! Welcome! Everyone is welcome here…sounds like you feel the way we do
Kait, in response to your comment -
The “suck it, Archuleta” sticks in my mind, though. I guess I just don’t understand the saying. I know it’s a sort of thumbing of his nose at ‘the one who was supposed’ to win, but the phrase … just … disturbs.
Yes, it is a vulgar phrase. It was in a sarcastic comedy bit, so I guess we can keep that in mind, but really…would any other winner of AI have the need to bring up beating the runner up as part of their persona, seven months after the fact?????
lamblisskaden, are you the guy who posted that lovely provocative comment on my “David Archuleta: The Voice That Kills Softly” video? You’re awesome!
Thanks for de-lurking!
Kizzi, like you, I don’t think about Cook at all. I just happened to catch him on my tele, and I was not amused. Furthermore, it’s too late to try to stop being “Mr. America.” Don’t you just love how music artists like him want to ride the machine that is American Idol then act like they’re “too cool for school”?
Oops! I said Kizzi (and I agree with you too!) when I was really referring to Kait (on the Cook subject).
Afternoon everyone
BTW..Who is Cook?? is he Anyone?? Anyone worth talking about here?
Thanks emmegirl08. The reason I mentioned my age was just to provide some context to my posts. The fact that so many people of my generation are so taken with David is no accident. What makes David so unique and special is that he embodies potential qualities that are common to all people, of all ages. When I was at the Virgin Record signing, I was amazed at how diverse the crowd was, but they all had cetain common traits. They were all upbeat, friendly, welcoming people, just like David. As I said on YouTube, David is an example of a new and better way to be. His popularity will cause people of all ages to start to be like him. It’s happened before, but this time it won’t be a “look”, like Elvis or the Beatles> It will be a way of behaving and relating to others that people will copy. It’s already worked on me. I’m a more acccepting and tolerant person since David has entered my life.
silverfox/ 50 ~ who ??..NOPE ..
#50 SF -- Good point concerning you-know-who(m)!
And “afternoon” to you, too.
51 lamblisskaden -- when David sang “When You Believe”, there is the line, “we were moving mountains long before we knew we could.” That night I wondered if he had any idea how relevant that line was to him. I am pretty sure he didn’t.
Wow, thanks for all your posts. Yes, I am a champion of David. Two of my favorite things in the world are warm people and great pop music. David is the personification of both of those things. When he signed my CD at Virgin Records, I told him that I loved him and his amazing talent. The look of appreciation and friendship he gave me will be with me for the rest of my life. BTW, thanks again to Pat B who shared the experience of that day with me. She “camped” out overnight to get a early place in line, and is one of David’s greatest fans.
WOW! I just watched this version of TMH….incredible! David just had so much energy and it just radiated out to the audience (and me!)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-EFrgvcYEi8
#51, Mike…Hi! And welcome! I’m already so impressed with your posts that I’m in awe, as I am with all of the ND family members and so proud to be included in the Best Fan Site for David. I don’t mind telling you that there are many days & nights when I just lurk here cuz the posts are so entertainingly funny and seriously intelligent! I’ll be laughing & crying at the same time sometimes! And, rascal..well, like so many have said, what David does with his voice, rascal does with words..
So, Mike, you are in very good company!
It seems like a little while ago we had some concerns about David’s stage presence. Here we are not too much later and what a transformation. He is amazing! Beautiful to behold in his COMMAND of that stage, of that VOICE and of our hearts. He has shown again and again he is the master of his destiny and on his own schedule (it just happens to be a rollercoaster schedule). Trust him we must, love him forever we can’t help ourselves but to do just that.
Rascal, you must be beside yourself in your joy and pride at the progress he has made. Love the 2008 Archie Awards idea. There is so much worthy material to choose from so that will be the challenge as I see it.
lamblisskaden- welcome felllow 50′s poster (speaking for myself older in body, the spirit-well that’s another matter altogether).
ronaldsf- went back to that remix you did and it was “just too much”-LMAO. Had a blast with it and Sonic Ether’s too.
And then there is THE SMILE. SIGH, had to talk about it. It just pours out of him like honey -smooth and golden. Have just died thinking about it. (PADDLES, please.)
SF, your point about you-know-who…well taken!
Okay folks, gotta run. Until next time!
HG..good, glad you agree..we are basking in the warm afterglow of seeing David reach another plateau in his journey..no room for whoever Cook is, and whatever he does..who cares anyway?
Blisskasden,
I finally get the chance to thank you for all you do on You Tube. Your comments on most vids of David are among some of the best I’ve read and I always look forward to reading them.
Iamblisskasden #41 -- I’m just on the short side of 50 myself. I’m a hard rocker by nature, but my tastes in music are quite eclectic. I rarely post here myself, but check in daily. Trust me, you’re not alone. There’s just something about this amazing young man that defy definition. (Although Rascal has an exemplary way of handling for us who are less gifted with words.)
As to the comments by HWDNM (he who deserves no mention) it’s obvious that someone forgot to take his anti-envy pill. Reminding everyone of who ‘won’ AI, and then that crude comment that I won’t acknowledge by repeating here is simple proof of who is the better man.
I also couldn’t help noticing the crowd in NYC singing ATM along with David. I always thought it would take years of performing live to get that kind of response from an audience. gosh…
I just watched ATM for the upteenth time and I am remembering my very first impression of David many months ago. He is REAL, and next to him all is pretense and cynicism and pettiness.
If you see that, it can’t help but change your life.
Mike and Kurt -- I’m enjoying your posts.
I usually post at Snarky Archies but I have been lurking over here since I discovered this site through the Artistry thread at IDF (love ronaldsfan et al).
After I read Rascal’s post today I was so excited because I had the same reaction--I was all “omgosh, David is channeling Mick Jagger!!”! The Archustomp has developed apparently into an Archustrut and David was fierce and amazing performing Crush, which frankly is not my fave of his songs but he really was selling that song last night! You could see he really believed it and wanted us all to believe with him!!
I found this vid on YouTube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OGWfLiEoG98&feature=PlayList&p=C55FAB96ACF2241A&index=0&playnext=1 It is Mick Jagger performing Satisfaction with a scarf (note this video is form last year so Mick is at least in his 50s in the vid so for the ppl who posted earlier re: being 50-something--age is relative).
Interesting to compare Mick’s performance with David. It is a strange comparison cause David is all earnest and intense while Mick is flamboyant and out there but they both have soul, although David’s brand of soul is more soulful (in my opinion). Of course, David also has the Voice so he doesn’t need the strut quite as much. But I love the “scarf-strewn rocker boy” image. It suits David, I think:-)
But I am rambling (like David) haha.
Kizzi..if you’re still here..please email me..It’s about Atlanta.
lamblisskasden, I look forward to your comments here.
(yay!)
giapicchi! love the jagger comment.
And yeah, I agree, David is ‘mo soulful… moz def, no doubt about it. “…kee-pin’ yo love lockdown… y’love lockdown…” lol
Kurt! LOVE your post!
LIZ!! “He is REAL, and next to him all is pretense and cynicism and pettiness. ” {{{{HUGE HUGG!!}}}}
little aside: I hope Josie is just busy shopping or decorating her tree — weather reports for her neck of the woods are a little scary. Anybody heard from Josie?
Hello Gorgeous, yes that was me. Loved your video. 2008 has certainly been “the year of David Archuleta”, just as 1956 was the “year of Elvis” and 1964 the “year of the Beatles”. He has, just by being himself, created a debate within society about what exactly is masculinity, self confidence, humility, modesty, and many other qualities that have gone unexamined for decades. To think that this sincere, utterly charming young man could actually be a polarizing figure in society speaks to the change that is just beginning in how people act and treat each other. I saw a poster on a lampost in Manhattan that showed a young guy. The caption read “Respect women”. David is, by example, a living workshop on how to treat people and how to make everyone feel valued and accepted. Young guys (and not so young guys) who feel a need to diminish others, especially women, to elevate themselves, need to watch David and how he interacts with people. It’s a joy to behold, and if you pay attention, it can change your life. I learn a new and better way to be every time I see David in action. Did I mention that he’s also the best singer/performer since Elvis?
I said this over at idolforums, but his is how I feel about David’s Love Lockdown:
The thing about hearing David sing this little bit of Love Lockdown is that it isn’t just the voice, it is the fact that he is so into any song/music that is streaming through his musical brain/soul. He puts soul into every tiny thing that comes musically out of his mouth. He is a living, breathing music machine!
djb #44, Shorty’s a fan? So cool! (Love your avi, btw.)

beebee #66 -- hugs back at ya!
Iamblisskasden #67 Your comment gave me chills. “He has, just by being himself, created a debate within society about what exactly is masculinity, self confidence, humility, modesty…”
And as David has said, “That’s what I like about it. It’s all in the music, you don’t have to say anything.”
#41 Will you marry me? Can I keep you? LOL

Iamblisskasden -- Welcome! So glad you joined us! I am mostly a lurker, but ND is home to me and I love everyone on here!
Mike, I agree totally with your words (below). Welcome!
…This is a great site. It treats David as the artist he is, and does not patronize him with the “lettuce boy” and Do you have girlfriend” nonsense.
I love this site. I log on twice a day and love reading Rascals critiques and all the comments. I’ve commented a few times myself but I’m one of those that is a little intimidated by all of you literary types who can express yourselves so elequently. But that’s okay, I still love reading everything and you all express so well what I feel for and about David.
The title to Rascals latest offering is what I was thinking.
I can hardly comprehend how great David is becoming as a performer. I’m going to Atlanta on Wednesday and I’m practically jumping out of my skin I’m so excited.
Hi marybodo! I could just change the name & post your exact message!! I, too, am mostly a reader here & post occasionally. AND I’m going to Atlanta on Wednesday as well!!! Do you mind my asking where you live? Are you meeting up with any other fans at the concert?
marybodo and Deb -- SF and I are going to Atlanta too. Email me at kizzix2008@gmail.com if you’d like to meet with us after the concert.
SF -- I replied to your email. Did you get it?
jr4da: Hi! I have pix of Northern Lights NDers. I need your email! Mine is above in #77.
Re-posting the last entries from the previous thread as it is MSG-related:
You know, I have to hand it to Jive & Azoff for securing him a spot with the Jingle Ball series of concerts. Aside from being a good avenue to promote him & his music/album to a wider audience and building some amazing relationships with some major market radio stations & artists, it is also great to further hone his talent esp on stage. Progressively he is upping his stage presence and even at the MSG, he did look like he was… well, at home
Am so happy for him that he is able to do what he always dreamed of doing and at barely 18, he is having the time of his life.
Congrats David for conquering MSG!
THIS IS AN EXTRA TREAT:
David’s MSG set in 2 videos only — it is continuous so you hear all the banter and the audience reactions -- like you were there. Thanks to songbook5

I had to get my “chores” done and hubby off to work so I could sit down to the computer and engulf myself in last night’s vids. I am overwhelmed (again) at how far David has come in such a short time. And to think I had to be talked in to watching AI. Now look what’s happened to me.
SF--I could not love him more if he was my own child ( or make that, grandchild..ouch! )!-- I’m right there with ‘ya. Luckily I have a granddaughter that loves him as much as I do.
BTW-- I got a new grandson this morning. Way excited!!
I love, love, the photo at the top. David is in command.
I am briefly removing my invisibility cloak to respond to comments I have read about the Boston concert. Please bear with me. I’ve been silent for a very long time admiring all the hilarious, talented, giddy, erudite, down to earth, late night baking, loving fans posting here regularly.
I abandoned my husband just 24 hours after he had a hernia operation to see my second David Archuleta and Friends Show, Version 2. (I’m a bad person, but it shows you where my priorities lie.) Little did I know it would turn out said spouse would end up with no electricity or phone and was not supposed to lift the logs that would keep the wood stove burning. Yes, I am now paying penance big time.
I first saw David sing live in Manchester 4 months ago where I experienced the thrill of feeling his voice penetrate deep into my bones. At the Boston Jingle Jam I was much closer to the stage but there were gigantic speakers positioned 15 feet in front of us. Even though David’s voice was clear the music was way too loud for me to hear him the way I would have liked, but there were so many other things about it to enjoy. I watched with a huge proud smile on my face.
David came out strong and built on the energy until he ended with a killer version of Crush that had me seeing the song in a whole new light. He was well received from the start by a predominately young crowd. It was the first time in my life I have truly felt older than dirt! The crowd stood through his entire set, singing along much of the time. When he finished the applause was twice as loud as it was in the beginning. I believe he impressed many of those who may have been standing just to see what all the fuss was about. He’s opening both ears and eyes while melting hearts at a faster than lightning pace. Some may never get there. It’s their loss.
The difference in his stage performance from the idol concert was remarkable. He was so joyful, working the stage like he belonged there. Midway through his set, I couldn’t help thinking that he was exactly where he needed and wanted to be. It seems to me that with his song and clothing choices of late he is starting to feel comfortable with showing us who he really is while cleverly building the groundwork for being able to do things his way in the future. My lovely daughter who has been concerned about my sanity (she really has no clue) enjoyed the other acts more than I, but came away thinking that his set was one of the best despite the lack of bells and whistles and that he definitely possessed the best voice. Evidently I raised her right. No doubt she is now obsessively searching the internet for all things Archuleta, or better yet starts only after she finishes her final exams! It is only a matter of time until she succumbs entirely.
I am solidly in the camp that longs for solo David concerts with that voice front and center, but I am willing to bide my time and listen to whatever he chooses to sing for me. I just read a MSG ATM youtube comment: “He makes me happy straight out. Then he makes me happy to see him happy. Then he makes me happy because he makes me feel good about myself. Then he makes me feel happy because he gives me hope for the world! I’m BURSTING.” That is exactly how I feel. I love being a witness to the many layers of the endlessly engaging and intriguing ArchEvolution.
kizzi -- I have emailed you already; anw, my email is ditasy@gmail.com
lamblisskasden/Mike -- oh goodie that you have come back! I love your various comments on youtube like i feel much better when I see you have gone there and shared your insights. I look forward to more from you on this site
WANT TO HEAR SOME DIRT ON ARCHULETA COMING FROM DAVID HIMSELF?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9PJV6n5jOTk
Great interaction with other artists backstage, start at 1:38 for David’s segment
81 knotliser -- thanks for your post, I enjoyed that very much. So much to love with David, isn’t there?
Iamblisskasden #51--
“It will be a way of behaving and relating to others that people will copy. It’s already worked on me. I’m a more acccepting and tolerant person since David has entered my life.”
--I’ve found myself in the same situation. What an impact he has on so many people around the world! It’s a great feeling.
Below is link to a call in interview for David at B96 radio station in Chicago for upcoming Jingle Jam in Chicago next week. Fun to listen to.
Of interest is David pulled the “privacy card” as the DJ phrased it when he asked David who he was a “little too” not over. David is getting the hang of interviewing and the BEST thing was he was as geniune and authentic in not answering the question as when he does answer the question.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XpLt4xLFPTc
Phew. And after all that I just wanted to add two things.
I can’t speak for Josie, but I live a couple of towns away. We just got our power back this afternoon, but many are still without. The darkness has been eerie with total anarchy at the non working traffic lights.
I had a limited view of the projection screen at the show. From my perspective, the curvature of the screen had the effect of making David’s lip curl up just like Elvis each time he smiled in closeups. Made me grin like a madwoman.
DID YOU KNOW THAT DISNEY IS DOING THIS? HAS THIS BEEN POSTED? A WHOLE PARK DEDICATED TO OUR DAVID?
http://www.sun7news.com/index.php?code=39g2ZNH90Hy331Fxn32U&CMP=OTC-WWYCOVS1001
IS THIS FOR REAL? AM SORRY FOR THE ALL CAPS… BUT MY JAW IS STILL ON THE FLOOR!
A WHOLE PARK?
OK, it is just a joke. Trash my #88 post. HUMBUG!
knotliser -- I loved your comments about the Boston concert. Thanks for sharing! Are you & Josie both in new England? Which state(s)? I have friends (may-as-well-be-family) in Maine.
jr4DA -- It’s just make believe!! Too bad, huh?

Kizzi #77, no I didn’t get your email..I just have a question..where’s your seat in Atlanta?
I’ve been enjoying reading all about David’s performance at MSG. Due to a self imposed 24 hour internet blackout I missed all of the excitement, and I was worried about how he would be received. I know he has tons of NY fans, in fact I think he’s quite popular here, but the momma in me was still a bit nervous.
After watching the videos I must tell myself I no longer have a need to worry. David is more than okay. He is the effing man! Crush was never my favorite song, but he performed it like he was a rock star. I am elated! There is this move that he does that just floors me. He tilts his head just a little, looking up, then down and does the little bounce move and it’s on! When he says he can’t dance, he just being modest. While he might not be comfortable doing a dance routine, his moves are impressive.
What most impressed me however is even in this short set he proved his versatility. He striped it down for an acoustic 1000 miles. He amped it up for Crush and TMH. He is proving himself to be as much a performer as a vocalist. His banter with the crowd is becoming more and more confident. I totally understand that, once you need to do something, and you are a bit of a perfectionist, you will learn how to do it well. That’s our David. He’s come so far.
I am enjoying all of the lurkers who could no longer remain anonymous and are speaking out today. Mike/Iamblisskasden you are well known to most David fans who live on Youtube. I have always enjoyed and appreciated your comments.
I am so proud of David, and if there was any part of last night that I enjoyed the most it would be that smile that broke out on his face during ATM. I loved watching his face the entire performance, because he’s just so expressive (well he’s beautiful too, but that’s a given, right?). I hope he is feeling a bit of pride in himself. He done good!
Finally, I hope that he get it into his head that he is worthy. I hope he realized that even as he pays his dues, he is an extremely talented individual with so much to say. I am so pleased with how he’s taken the high road during this journey of his. He has never failed to impress me. This is one helluva ride.
Thanks again to those who has welcomed me to the site. It’s nice to know that my posts were appreciated on YouTube, but this site feels much more like a community.
I was thinking today about the similarities in David’s early success and that of the Beatles in ’64. In the early going, the Beatles were treated basically as a “boy” band (bands weren’t called that then)and their fans were of the screaming young girl variety. Paul was the “cute Beatle”, blah, blah, blah. Their songs were great pop songs about young love ( I Want To Hold Your Hand, She Loves You, Thank You Girl, This Boy, etc etc). I loved all of them , btw. It took a while for them to get the respect of the young males. It was when the themes of their music became more universal that they became the most respected artists in music history.
The David we see now, as great as he is, is just a taste of the potential that we will see being fulfilled in the coming months and years. “Crush” is his “I Want to Hold Your Hand”. It’s good, but it’s no “Hey Jude” or “In My Life”. If ever the expression “the best is yet to come” applies, it’s with David.
Sorry about the blooper. It should be “have welcomed” in line 1.
Deb #90-
I live in Portsmouth, NH. I don’t know Josie but remember reading where she lived once and liked knowing there was someone nearby who loved David as much as I do.
I had so many things to do today, and since it looked like David had a day off today, it gave me a chance to take care of some errands. Yes, I have to schedule my life around David’s life! All I can say is..it’s a DANG good thing I’m not married or involved, cuz they would be comin’ in second to MY IDOL! ..I know..I’m pathetic!!
Wow! so many new posters today..Have to go back & read all the posts on today’s thread..Oh, and I’m trying not to look at David’s photo..cuz I can’t concentrate when I even glance at it!!
Iamblisskasden, it’s great that you bring up the Beatles…during Idol, David wanted to sing Hey Jude, but couldn’t get it cleared. Could you just imagine what Hey Jude would have sound like
lamblisskasden, it’s great to have that historical perspective. We’re at such an early stage in David’s career. Whatever will his prime years be like?
Erin, I did not know that “Hey Jude” (a song I wanted him to sing) was one he could not get cleared. What was up with all those clearance issues?
I had no luck trying to find the Life Story magazine today. I rummaged around the teen mags at Borders and other stores today. I did see a mini-poster of David in one (the one with his head looking back in a high-collared jacket). Boy, it’s been a long time since I leafed through one of those mags…say, since Scott Baio and Shawn Cassidy? Anyone able to find the Life Story in their area?
Hey, Jude? …………….me………dead…………..
Freofan -- I found David’s life story mag in my local Walgreens! So cheesy and so fun to read haha!
knotliser -- I feel that we’re somehow related LOL!
Mike -- love your insights about our beloved David! You are very eloquent so you’ll fit right in at this site.
Silverfox -- I’ve communicated with Kizzi via e-mail this evening & hope to meet the two of you in Atlanta. I think you & I are staying in the same hotel. I’m traveling with dldrva -- another regular poster on FOD.
knotliser -- I love Portsmouth. I live in VA, but spend my summers in ME. I have a ritual of rolling down my car windows to breathe in the NH/Maine air when we cross over the bridge in Portsmouth.
I’m sorry you’re having such bad weather.
This DJ , Jimmy Jam of WNCI didn’t like David during Idol but since he hanged out with David during the Crush promo leg, he became a convert. He is with Cook here, talking about how really nice of a kid he is:
http://www.imeem.com/people/LaypRyl/music/mCRRFsep/cook_and_jimmy_jam_talk_about_david/
Liz, Thanks! I will check out Walgreens!
me to cool teenage son: “Hey, come over here and listen to David sing Love Lockdown.”
cool teenage son: “Mom, now you’re going crazy. David can not sing a Kanye song.”
smiling me to cool son: “Just listen, it’s only 10 seconds.”
cool son: “holy crap! Play that again, that almost beats Kanye…”
smiling and satisfied, I played it again…….
100/FreoFan -- I found David’s Life Story at Barnes & Noble. I looked in the regular entertainment magazines but didn’t find it. So I asked a sales person & he found it in the teen magazine section. He was surprised it was there because it’s not supposed to be out until Dec 15th. It says to display until March.
knotliser — As of about 2:15 this afternoon Josie was still without power — she had heard it might be three more days. They are concerned about their pipes freezing. It must be a mess up there.
Thanks to all the new commentators for de-lurking!
davidfanLIZ -- I’ve admired your beautiful face for a while now, just too shy to show mine before.
rascal -- I have been describing the ice storm as eerily beautiful and devastatingly damaging. I hope Josie and others get through without further damage. It is supposed to get really cold tonight. My sincere thanks for starting and continuing this blog.
blisskasden -- thank you for making me stop having to search for your comments on youtube though they always did shine out like a beacon.
Can I declare my love for Crush yet again? My 21-ear-old nephew got his cd from me today and much as he loved ALTNOY and Barriers it was Crush that had him hypnotised and mesmerised! It didn’t take him long to sit at the piano and start playing it by ear. I love that David is young enough to record pop songs like Crush and not look silly. Ha ha! And while he does so he takes it to a much higher level with his solid yet soulful voice. Great peformance of it at the Garden! Lovin’ the archustrut and archustomp!
Just finished reading all the posts from the last thread and today’s..wow so many new posters with great comments!
I thought it was kinda funny that David’s stage persona last night reminded some of Mick, cuz of the scarf and how David owned the stage. Mick & the Stones have never really done anything for me..sorry. I do think though, that like Mick, David will be a lasting force in the music world. But Elvis & the Beatles..now that’s a different story..I was a huge fan of Elvis. I was all of 12 when Elvis changed the music scene, and in high school when the Beatles did the same thing. But David…he’s different. He poses a good argument for reincarnation… of Elvis, Lennon, Sinatra and many others! There is just no “earthly” explanation for David’s immense talent..he’s extraordinary. It would make sense to me if David was 25 or 30, and had been at it for a decade or more, but he’s 18! Most of us here are old enough to be his parents or grandparents and not really into the “pop” scene, but here we are, in awe of this young man who is our Pied Piper and we get excited about every note, every run he sings! And we are committed to follow him forever!
Now don’t everyone think I’ve gone off the deep end, talking about reincarnation..I’m just trying to figure out hat’s happened to me & why!! But I’m no cra-zier than any of you!! I just say what I’m thinking..and it gets me in trouble sometimes..
Happy..I really like Kanye’s Love Lockdown..Yes I do! And when David sang a snippet, I almost fell off my bed!And the RUN he did at the end was like WOW! Kanye, better lockdown his song cuz if David ever sings the whole song..it won’t be Kanye’s anymore! haha!
rascal, if you’re in contact with Josie, please send her my best..and to stay bundled up!
Here’s hoping Josie’s pipes don’t freeze. Having been briefly deprived of electricity, due to the same storm, I can imagine how awful things are right now. More than the darkness, the cold is worse. I hope she and others are keeping warm!
happy#107: LOL!
I love when lurkers, de lurk! And when they are so eloquent it is a double treat! Many thanks to kurt1960(loved your post a while back too,) giapicchi, knotliser, and lamblisskasden.
lamblisskasden- can I abbreviate your screen name to sometihng like “lbkd”? I’m lazy. Anyway, I seem to be one of the few here that limit my David internet world to ND and posted links. So, I guess I’m one of the few who don’t know you, but I see I’d like to! LOL
HG- was it you that was lovin’ the scarf? I’m loving the scarf.
SF- I might have to switch to a new signature look. I’m lovin’ the MSG vibe.
Kizzi, #86, thanks for the link. You’re right, what an interview pro he’s becoming, talking about leaving some “mystery” — smoooooth!
Happy #107, LOVE that! And Valbraz, too, so cool hearing about new young guy fans of David.
Erin, did not know that about Hey Jude. As much as I’d love to hear David sing it, if it had been chopped down to the standard A.I. two-minute clip, I would have wept … for all the wrong reasons!
No, Happy, it wasn’t me loving the scarf (he’s much too covered up for my tastes, but that’s just me…)
Oh I hope Josie & family & their neighbors are fine. That’s a bummer. HG -- good thing your area got its electricity back that fast.
SF -- you cra-zeh woman! arranging your schedule around David? Hoho!
Sometimes i feel that way, too (smiling sheepishly)
Happy to see more lurkers out of their “invisibility cloak” — that’s a nice one knotliser
Re HEY JUDE -- I would have loved for David to hang sung that. It is part of the Lennon-McCartney Songbook. The only way it would not have been cleared was if he asked for it before he sang “Imagine” cos based on their press release, they got it after Top20.
Just a little trivia on Hey Jude -- it was originally titled Hey Jules, penned by Paul in June 1968. It has been said that he wrote it on his way to John’s soon-to-be-ex-wife Cynthia & Julian. It was Paul’s way of comforting Jullan while at the center of his parent’s divorce.
According to Rolling Stone, Hey Jude is The Beatles’ biggest U.S. single — 9 weeks at #1 — was also their longest, at 7 min and 11 sec. During the recording sessions, the Beatles’ producer, George Martin, objected to the length, claiming DJs would not play the song. “They will if it’s us,” John Lennon shot back --> that’s why Lennon is my man!
HG and Ronaldsf- old news, but,….congrats on your nominations!!!
I’m just now watching a PBS Special -- Hit Man -- David Foster and Friends. It has already featured Michael Johns, Kat McPhee and coming up Charice P.
I keep saying to the TV -- You will work with David Archuleta, it’s just a matter of time…..
chickee- are you lurking? have you been lurking? Where are you? Come out, come out, wherever you are….. please.
Tofan/69~ Shorty’s 1st concert was AI tour show..after show at signing he asked David for a HighFive and of course David responded..”Awww Sure!”.and gives Shorty a smackin’ high-five…and I mean SMACKIN’ ..when leaving Shorty kept looking at his hand in amazement and says “I can’t believe this hand just touched FAME!”.(the kid gets it!)…I have never seen him like that before!..He would not use that hand to do anything for a while after that. It was very cute….SO, YUP!!… He is a fan !!…..
happy~129~ I have been wondering the same thing …??…hoping everything is OK…..
Did anyone else pick up on David’s gesture at 1:08 in this video….
It was almost as if he did a little “thank you lord” in the middle of his first song…
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-EFrgvcYEi8
sorry for the typo: to HAVE sung NOT to HANG sung
mea culpa
joner123- maybe,…. but I think he was just groovin’….
Not sure why my avatar has disappeared. Maybe it will come back.
In the mean time, don’t forget to put your nominations in at http://www.archieawards.com
It looks like some categories already have runaway favorites (Best Performance: Heart-Felt and Best Fan Tribute) while others are running a tight race.
Signing off until next time, so g’nite all!
Deb..So you’re staying at the Holiday inn across from the arena? Where are you sitting?
JR..well of course I arrange my schedule around David…doesn’t everyone?
HG- goodnight. btw- I see your avi- the old one with the big smile…
Really, Happy? My computer isn’t showing a thing! Sigh. I’ll figure it out for another time (but if you’re seeing something, maybe I just need to refresh the page).
Good night everyone!
HG..I see your avatar..It’s so fine, too! Have a good night!
Hi everyone! I am coming out tonight- because I saw Bliss post and like others, I love his comments on you tube…. I am not too good at this because I just posted on a prior thread, At any rate- I recognize some familiar names here! I live in Florida and over this past year, David has become my favorite pastime to support and enjoy his growth and his amazing, wonderful, moving voice!
While lurking around the net in several different David sites, I never really felt at home until I started reading Rascal’s posts here on Noting David. Rascal, I’m in awe of your writing! You posters thrill me every day with your commentary about David as I lurk here and there on this fantastic site. It’s comforting to see that I’m not alone in my admiration of David Arculeta.
This site is a blessing in disguise for me becasue not only have I found a group of avid fans but I also found a group of people who value the written word as much I do. I just don’t express myself as well as all of you. So please bear with me.
Like many of you, I became a fan of David Archuleta from his first audition on AI. My husband is a high school band teacher and when he heard David’s first audition his comment to me was “That’s your winner!”. There will never be a season like last year’s, IMO. It was a race until the end and despite the outcome, my husband was absolutely right in more ways than one.
Never having had the honor of meeting David or going to one of his shows…yet, I diligently follow every youtube clip and tidbit of info I can find. Spending too many hours here lately, my cats aren’t getting fed, work isn’t getting done, phone calls aren’t being returned, while I’m ‘hypnotized and mezmeriized’ by this 17 year old boy whom I admire, love and respect as if he was my own. [BTW, I have a daughter who is David's age!]
David’s voice [THE VOICE] puts me in a better mood and transforms me into the best ME that is possible. I never want to get off this ride. I’m on it for life!
BeeBee….Met you last night online and it was a pleasure. How funny that our names are so similar!
Ronald…You’re the best!
Looking forward to posting with all of you.
PS I live in NY and my husband took my daughter to MSG this evening for a NY Rangers (hockey) game. My daughter called me during intermission to say that they just played part of David’s segment from last night’s Jingle Ball concert on the big screen! How awesome is that!
SF112- how can he sing Kanye’s song better than Kanye while sitting on a couch, slumped over, and giggling? It seemed he really liked the song and liked singing it- it reminded me of when he was bopping to Pink’s “so what”..
rae and bebereader- thanks for coming to the party…
JR4DA, thanks for the Hey Jude background. My husband and I both love it and played it at the very end of our wedding (all 7 min and 11 secs … the song that is, not the wedding!) and had all our friends and family join hands in a circle and sing along with us to end the night. Yeah, I’d love David to sing it but don’t know if my heart could stand it!
Hi Rae and Bebereader!!
Hi there rae & Bebereader!
Bebereader..You said..” I just don’t express myself as well as all of you. So please bare with me”.
Don’t you worry..if everyone here welcomed ME and bare with ME..buh-lieve me you are in the right place!!
Happy..no telling how many songs David knows by heart. He said he even sings while sleeping! Actually, I was surprised he sleeps!! haha!
TOfan135- we could not stand it…….paddles would not suffice…
Thank you for the welcome! SF 112- you are right about Kanye! Music just pours from him naturally! Artists are going to start quaking at the thought of him covering their song- because, well…..you know why……
Oh, wow. Loving all the new voices here. And, wow, look it’s Bebe!(er, reader) Yay. Truly loving the delurk-o-rama going on here.
knotliser — LOVED your post about Boston… and also appreciate the info about restored electricity. Rascal, thank you for the Josie update. I hope they can wrap their pipes double or whatever it takes. (I was at the epicenter of a whomping ice storm about a decade ago in VA — I agree, “eerily beautiful and devastatingly damaging”.) Fingers crossed for Josie and everybody stuck in that mess.
Erin! Hey Jude? Whoa! Would I ever love to hear THAT by David. Wonderful little tidbit, there. Thanks!
HAPPY! lol… I am LOVING your cool teenage son love lockdown reversal story… LOL. David was MADE to sing stuff like that. HE GETS stuff like that better than anybody I’ve seen for at least a generation… or longer— he just has that ucanny musical wisdom. So… lol…Shall we? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2wEbjUJOwK0
SF- did you not love that clip? Thanks JR for the link. He cracked me up in the whole clip. When the guy said, “I wipe it under the car seat.” David cries out “What?”…LOL
oh beebee- I just had to go listen again to be a good friend… the really crazy thing is that I downloaded snarkies mp3 for my ipod!! LOL. the white coats will come for me if they find out I downloaded a 10sec clip… (but the thought of the whole song would really be too much)
It’s time for me to say g’nite all..And for David..
Dear Lord, Though we are unworthy to ask,
Please take Care Of David. Watch over him, Protect him from all harm. Cloak him with your love and give him the strength to endure all that is thrown in his path. Give David the courage and guidance to say no to those who ask for more than he can reasonably give. Surround David with loving and supportive people who love him UNCONDITIONALLY as we, his ARCHANGELS do. Separate David from those who have agendas other than for his wellbeing. Give him rest when he’s weary. Give him the stamina to sustain his hectic pace. Give him assurance when he feels doubt. Give him joy when he feels sad. Cloak him always in your protective arms. Keep David healthy & strong as he fulfills his Destiny which was written in his Book of Life before he was born.
This, though we may be unworthy, humbly pray,
Amen.
Sweet dreams David, be safe & secure in our love always! Take care. You will always be numero uno in our eyes! Thank you for all you do and for just being you!
CONTIGO SIEMPRE CON AMOR!
SF- good night. Amen.
Hey guys! Been at the FOD chat with Jennette McCurdy tonight. Gah!
Anywho….Hey Jude was the very, very, very first 45 record I bought when I was a kid. The first one I picked out on my own. I was in the third grade. haha!
Glad the lurkers are coming out of the woodwork. It’s like when you have a family and then the in-laws start marrying into the family and then the kids come. And then before you know it you have like this huge extended family. haha!
So welcome to the family!
one more thing before I call it a nite..about all the little backstage interviews and encounters with other artists..David is coming in contact with so many different people in the business, even some riff-raff, if you know what I mean. The “backstage” world of these tours are a different animal than the AI tour. And from whay I’ve seen, David is well regarded. They respect him. We can imagine the kind of language David hears, not to mention the scantily dressed females..but it doesn’t seen to faze David..He doesn’t judge. He’s one of the most tolerant human beings I’ve ever seen. Just the fact that David is sharing the stage with some of the acts in the jingles, says much to many of his non-fans, so much so, that they are taking another look & listen.
And one other thing that I am really happy about, and that is that Jeff has not been seen on camera lurking in the background. I know he’s there, but he’s being smart now by really staying in the background now. I’m not putting him down, I just think David’s image now is of a smart, savvy, brilliant entertainer who doesn’t need his dad to hold his hand. Jeff is his manager, not his sidekick, and should stay in the background out of camera range. Jus’ sayin’. ( I may be in trouble again, but so be it ). This is how I feel.
SF- “one more thing before I call it a nite”?… you called it a night a half hour ago. LOL!
SF- that clip with Shontelle, (the hottest t-shirt girl a man could want to see) is evidence of what you say. She was delighted with him, defending him, and teasing him all at once with no hint of artifice to her….
good night all. Thanks for the fun.
Can I say that I hope FOD posts the video of tonight’s video chat with Jennette. She had some amazingly nice and insightful things to say about David. I lurv her!
Thanks for the grand welcome! So happy to be here!
I dunno maybe it’s instinct but I think David has a cold. If you all listen closely, his voice was a tad hoarse last night at MSG. Amazing how great it sounded anyway! And I think he’s wearing the scarf for warmth more than for fashion. The weather in NY has been so cold and now he’s off to NJ for the show tomorrow. Not as cold in NJ as in NY but cold nonetheless.
Silverfox, thanks for your prayer for David. I said it right along with you.
SF #145… I agreed with you (it reminded me the CSI episode 8.. lol). However, I don’t think you will be in trouble. I think it shows more how much the father loves his son, right? All for his best interest.
Rae, thank you so much for your post here. So many times on Youtube,I’d see a video of a performance or an interview, etc. and I’d be so moved that I had to put my feelings into words at that moment. The words were literally coming from my heart and not my head. It didn’t matter if it was a video of “Imagine” or one of him doing handstands.I was always moved. That’s the thing with David. There is positive energy in every thing he does, says, or sings.
Here is a collection of funny moments from the one and only David Archuleta — so we don’t go gaga going over all our files just to find the cutest or most adorkable moments for the archie awards (ADMIT IT! each of us has what? at least 40GB of david files, riiiiight?)

lamblisskasden -- WELCOME WELCOME WELCOME!!!
I have always LOVED your comments on YouTube -- you are so incisively perceptive.
I especially loved this comment:
He has, just by being himself, created a debate within society about what exactly is masculinity, self confidence, humility, modesty, and many other qualities…
And on your comparison to the Beatles, I have actually been wanting to write about that someday in relation to David, maybe in the Artist thread! (And an article on Barbra, too!) I love your historical perspective on things.
Now that we’re talking about David doing Beatles covers, why hasn’t anyone mentioned one of the most obvious: YESTERDAY??
Another lurker here…
RASCAL, I’ve been enjoying your posts since long before notingDavid, when you were putting our thoughts into words over at Rickeys!
I was at the show last night at Madison Square Garden and came away with a few thoughts I’d like to share here:
First, I had seats to the side of the stage and just up above a bit, so I had a (unique) perspective in that I could also see what was happening behind the stage.
The stage set up was sort of like a revolving “secret passage” type wall on a circular platform. The audience saw the current performer, and behind the wall, teams of techs were dismantling the previous act’s equipment and setting up for the coming one. Then the wall would revolve, the next act would come on, and the process was repeated for ELEVEN acts. That in itself was incredible to witness…
That being said, David was like the new charming cottage on the block amidst much larger (but NOT necessarily grander) houses.
All the other performers had tons of equipment (ie. multiple drum sets) and/or large bands, dancers, back up singers, thrusts of fiery flames, fireworks etc. Davids act was by comparison, very simple and scaled down -- and BEAUTIFUL.
He was definitely placed among top performers at this event and brought on his best…so proud to witness that!
He has so much “room to grow” in this neighborhood called the music industry. Can’t wait to see the additions he puts on that cottage. It’ll soon be the envy of all the block!
I haven’t read this whole thread yet (I spent the night in the city and just got home this evening) but I love the comments about Mick Jagger…so true!
#100 I got mine ay Barnes and Noble. Cost was $9.95. There were about a dozen left/ I almost got 2 but the cost was high. If you REALLY want one I can go back buy one. My contact is alphawav@comcast.net. You may want to try a large news stand if you have one nearby. I have one that claims 8000 titles! I bought 2 of the ELLE there for $3.99 each.

help?!?
Can someone tell me how to add a photo to my identity? The generic silhouette looks so “empty” but I didn’t find a place in the “profile update” section to add an image.
rapture…go to…

If you need further help, just ask.
For me , this ODD is getting out of control. Not in any overt way as in crying when he sings . My issue is I spend every free moment while home sitting at the computer watching videos, downloading pictures ( 1000 so far) and jumping around to all the sites looking for anything new to copy. David’s CD plays constantly on my other PC. I walk my dog and listen to every song David has ever sung on my Zune Player……………. it is getting to me. Perhaps its all this JB/JJ concerts all at once and then the radio interviews and the cellcasts. I didn’t miss any since July. I went to meet David at ProFM in Providence. It was so rushed, but I got his autograph, so I was happy. I wanted to share this because I know I am not alone. I look forward to the time when the concerts and interviews are more spread out . I think it will make them so much more special. I can’t keep up anymore with all the copying of all the events.
Thanks for listening, I have no one to talk ot about David. Those around me tell me they do not care to hear anything about it. Maybe because I don’t know when to stop talking about him. I am an adult. I wish I could get this under control.
BBWWAAAAAAAAA! 3 am and look what I am doing?
Abrra
Also, I noticed that David’s set seemed a bit rushed. Right after he opened with Touch My Hand, he started to talk and then the music for ALTNOY started and he quickly said “This song will be the next single from the album” and started singing. It didn’t seem like he had time to catch his breath.
By the second verse he was back in his groove. Any one else feel that?
I was a bit worried for David’s ears before he came on, because of the loud explosion. Just before Kanye’s last song, there were some visual “fireworks” effects and what seemed like an M-80 explosion. Everyone’s ears in our section were blown out. I can only assume that David was still in the “underground” of the Garden at that time because he didn’t seem affected by it. I’ve read about how much he likes/needs to be able to hear himself on stage.
On-the-side: During Ne-Yo’s set, there were blasts of flames from the top of the wall/backdrop. One of the flames didn’t go out completely. The crew behind the stage had to quickly climb over the equipment set up/waiting for the next act and scale the back of the wall with a fire extinguisher. He carefully sprayed just the flame, making sure not to spray anything else. I’m sure the whole incident went unnoticed by the masses who couldn’t see behind the stage, but it was pretty exciting to watch!
Google The Station Fire in RI I won’t describe the details, but pyro at a concert can be deadly.
Abrra
Ouch, I know exactly what you’re talking about Abrra.
Good thing David’s concerts haven’t required emergency crews on hand.
Wait, who I am kidding?! Of COURSE they do -- just not fire crews!
Abrra:
“Maybe because I don’t know when to stop talking about him. I am an adult. I wish I could get this under control.
BBWWAAAAAAAAA! 3 am and look what I am doing?”
I’m right here with you! All I can offer is this:
At the show last night, Z100 had this continuous scroll across the monitors. They asked the audience, if they were “above the influence” to text in their comments and they aired them throughout the show. Most people said how much they liked the different performers and gave shout outs. My comment was:
“I’m above the influence. David Archuleta is my drug.”
And that’s truly the way I feel. It’s a bit out of control at times, but at least our “drug” feeds our souls instead of depleting our minds!
Janey,
Thanks for the link, I’ll dig up a photo tomorrow. Got to get to sleep!
Abrra,
I’ familiar with that Rhode Island tradegy. I was just talking to a friend after the concert who was in Rhode Island at that time.
The pyro last night was a bit scary. Showers of sparks that would disappear just a few feet from the equipment, fireworks shooting from the stage over the audience that also disintegrated a few feet from the crowd. Indoor fireworks—pretty crazy!
Speaking of crazy, Good Night zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
Rapture,
It’s more than that. David is to me a full time preoccupation. I was like this with the Beatles. I grew up and they went on to other things. It ended, so to speak. David will be a mega star for several years to come. I wont live to see him retire. I just wonder how much worse it will get ( this ODD) . I wish we had a support group, face to face. We are too spread out all over for that though.
My intention is not to garner pity. It is just a way to get my feelings out. Maybe someone can talk about how they temper their desires for all things David.
Abrra
Re the Station fire. Simply said, not enough exits, some were even locked. Three time the allowed capacity in the club. 100 people died piled up trying to leave through the only door in front. OH and not to mention corrupt fire officials and no sprinklers!
Sorry its OT but I get MAD when I think about it. Apologize for the rant t that is OT.
Abrra
David IS our PYROTECHNICS! Who needs flashy staging when you’ve got the Real freaking Deal?
OT but on the Station fire… I just saw the full video on the net. Definitely not gonna watch it again. At least it made me much more paranoid about things like these, which is a good thing. *shudders*
stacked up like “fire” wood.

Hello all! De -- lurking as well to share a story.
The other evening I was hanging out with my sister-in-law. We were bored so we started to listen to different versions of the national anthem on youtube. It’s actually really amusing. You can really see if an artist has talent when they’re singing acapella. It’s also a great way to compare artists.
Let me tell you most of today’s artist cannot sing that song live. Anyways I played David’s version and my sister in law was amazed. She couldn’t believe he sounded so effortless and beautiful yet he didn’t over sing it at all. (I love that David always knows just how much to play with a melody. He has great taste.) She said it was right up there with Whitney’s version.
She was curious about David and wanted to see other videos. She asked me if he sang Oh Holy Night because it’s one of her favorite songs. I told her to brace herself. When I played it for her you should have seen the look on her face. All she could say was “He is a very special singer.” Another one bites the dust.
Also a random thought I had the other day. I was watching the movie Amadeus. Great movie. It might sound weird but it reminded me of David. His talent is truly a gift from above, like Mozart. When I was reading about the Cook’s best year ever comments it kind of clicked. He is kind of like Salieri. While Salieri was truly talented and well known he recognized Mozart’s true genius. He admired yet resented him. I don’t mean to start trouble of course but in the end I think it must have difficult for someone to have had to compete with a person who is blessed with such a rare gift.
haha rascal, i was about to do the exact same post on my blog as well
His performance of Crush at MSG was by far his best ‘performance’ ever, I have never seen stage confidence like that from him before. The energy coming off him was fantastic.
Good morning all! So many de-lurkers joining in the fun! Yay! And welcome!
mb, funny you bring up the Salieri/Mozart competition because that same movie and dynamic has been discussed here with regards to David and Cook. I have no doubt that Cook is Salieri, winning the title but always, always keeping an eye over his shoulder on our David.
It’s interesting the conversations that took place since my signing off:
1. Pyrotechnics/fire traps --> this was why, when I was at Northern Lights and felt the jam-packed crowd, I started looking for the nearest exit sign. Especially when I was taking care of someone else’s child.
2. ODD --> this is why sites like these exist. This is our group therapy! ha ha! SF, I meant to respond to an earlier comment you had made about being glad you don’t have any significant other in your life right now because they would so take a back seat to David. I feel very funny admitting something like that because, as a single thirtysomething, that kind of thinking would be detrimental to my biological clock and all that jazz. Whatever!
Here’s the thing. Before David, I had resigned myself to “settling” for whatever available man comes along, as long as he was decent enough, and at my age (and being a black woman), I couldn’t be too choosy. And that’s definitely the message all my friends and relatives have been telling me.
Enter David, and, I’m sorry, I don’t care if he’s just a celebrity crush that’s preoccupying my thoughts right now, he’s raised the friggin’ bar! I resent the idea that, because I’m of a certain age and race and because I’m a professional independent woman (apparently your market value as a desirable partner goes down because of this), I’m not supposed to have high standards. Well, I’m sorry, but the guys who enter my life at this time are going to have to live up to (or surpass) David. And I don’t see why someone like David should be such an anomaly (or that I should expect someone like David to be an anomaly).
The last guy I date, not too long ago actually, was very critical of me and was obviously intimidated by my degrees. My friends advised me to tone down my intelligence so as not to intimidate. Meanwhile, when I complained that, when we went to the movies, and I got some popcorn, he criticized me for eating junk food, they thought I was the one being nitpicky!
I’m sure one could over-analyze my ODD and say that David is my escapism from these kinds of real-life dramas, or even that, due to my age and his age, there is some confusion going on -->he both triggers in me the desire for the ideal partner and the ideal child (I am at that age where I’m contemplating motherhood). But, I do appreciate him on so many levels and one of those levels is proving that such men like him exist at all.
Take that backstage video with him and Shontelle. David is the perfect gentleman (as Kristy Lee Cook called him). As soon as the conversation literally turned to crap, David nicely found his exit strategy and will not get pulled into the gutter. He doesn’t leave in a way to offend the offender, but he does know how to keep his dignity (and to have the ladies defend him as well). Such grace and class!
And yes, I would love to find that in a partner. That’s not too much to expect, is it?
Good Morning All!
127/silverfox -- Yes, the two Debbies from VA (dldrva & me -- DebVA) are staying at the HI across from the arena. Our seats are in F4, row 5. How about you? I’m off to church, but will check in again later. I also gave Kizzi my cell number. Can’t wait to meet you!!
Abbra 160: We’re in the same boat. As the holidays approached, I started to wonder how I’d keep my sanity as I tried to juggle holilday chores and ODDing. Somehow I’ve managed. The family’s getting used to the dust bunnies because the one thing that’s easiest to give up is the housecleaning. And most of the time they are patient when I ‘forget’ and share one more tidbit about David.
Rapture: loved the text message you sent for the MSG monitors.
Freofan: I found the ‘Life Story’ mag at Hastings here in the Midwest, if that helps. I was doing some Christmas shopping with my husband and kids and spotted it as a fluke. (I’d planned to go to our Barnes and Noble on Monday.) I snatched up the mag with a delighted grin on my face, and then realized my husband was watching me. Sort of embarrassing, because I know the complicated feelings behind that grin, but the hubby was cool about it.
Hello Gorgeous: love your honesty about trying to juggle life as a single-and-looking woman with ODDing. I married and had kids late because it took me a while to find ‘the guy’. My gut response to your problem is to say, if you can find a guy like Bebereader’s husband, who recognized David’s star qualities at the outset, or even like mine, who tolerates my ODD with patience and affection, then you’re off to a good start.
But then again, I think you know that.
Good morning, All
Didn’t have an opportunity to visit “our” site during the day yesterday so I’ve been up since 4:30 mst reading all of your comments. It’s truly amazing how much stuff is discussed and that it is so diverse in its content. Everytime I read a post I say to myself that I will add a tidbit when I comment, and then a few posts later someone has already taken what would have been my response and typed (or is it keyboarded, now) out almost word for word what I would have said.
I have this eerie feeling that we all are brothers and sisters from different parents. How else could you explain that we all have the same thought processes.
So, since most everything has been covered I have only a simple reflection to add.
In this very cynical world we live in I am always amazed at how well David Archuleta is treated by those around him, and I’m talking about other entertainers and interviewers and talk show hosts and handlers and fans. It’s almost like all of these people see in David the “little brother” they feel the need to protect and shelter. I don’t think I’ve heard the comment “he is so nice” used to such an extent, in a very long time, to describe someone in the entertainment business.
Its like Mike alluded to in his earlier postings. We tend to feel better about ourselves after coming in contact with David whether its just reading about him or actually meeting him. And the “famous” people who come in contact with him seem to get that vibe.
Have a great day, everyone and stay safe. Luv ya!
To all the new commenters: It was great to see your posts and I look forward to future posts from every one. The more we communicate our shared adoration and celebration of David’s artistry, the more beautiful and isharper the whole picture becomes.
I think of ND as like a beautiful fabric woven by many unique threads containing genius, passion, soul, and simplicity of our observations, experiences and reflections on the artistry of David Archuleta. Each thread is composed of our collective energy which, to me, makes ND alive, intangibly alive yes, but so very beautiful and provides the necessary sustenance to what has become a very important segment of my daily life!
HG: As our favorite person says “….good things come to those who wait” and I know it will happen, you will fiind the right one because “you can.”
Thanks for sharing your story Hello Gorgeous #174, and don’t worry it’s a good thing -- you’re being a woman who respects yourself. Which is what David himself said he wants women to do. Some of my happiest female friends are actually single, and if they’re dealing with men they’re not “jumping into the lake” -- or at least into low-quality man lakes, that is.
David is definitely a male feminist of the most genuine variety, and it begins with his love and admiration for his mother. I believe his father was key to helping him find music, and his mother helped him find empathy and love.
Hi ronaldsf: #179 -- “Male feminist” is a brilliant description. I believe all true romantics are male feminists at heart.
Kait, Kizzi, and Ronald, thank you all for your words of encouragement. Thanks for offering a different perspective than what friends around me say (since they are fond of reminding me of my “limited choices”).
Although, Ronald, for whatever reason your phrase, “low-quality man lakes” had me LOL. Nope, not trying to swim in those lakes. Not at all!
I don’t think David would self-identify as a “male feminist” but he definitely fits the bill. And he does always say he wants a woman who “has respect for herself.”
HG- I love you. can I give you {{{{{hugs}}}}}}?
Another good MSG “A Thousand Miles” video, up close:

Oh…and watch in high quality. Otherwise they are too dark.
Rickey has a couple of videos up of David that are hilarious…
http://www.rickey.org/?p=10624
First one -- He can’t talk to the fans ’cause he’s gotta find a bathroom.
Second one -- As usual, David’s “people” keep telling him he has to go and David, as usual, ignores and does “just one more” autograph, picture, etc.
haha!
Sure, happy! (((((hugs)))))
abrra160- A couple of thoughts on obsessions vs passions. Passions are intense desires or driving devotions while obsessions are characterized by thoughts that continually preoccupy or intrude on your mind. I think passions are good and enrich lives,… true obsessions…. maybe…… not so much.
Obsessions can be trouble if they create problems in your life or if you are no longer grounded in reality. Although, having seen many a “passionate” football fan painted in body paint, half naked, standing out in the freezing cold screaming about a game as if the outcome really mattered, I wonder what it really means to be grounded in reality. LOL (silly… only the outcome of Yankee games really matter to the universe.)
But since you asked for suggestions- I limit myself to one website and its links. Time management is essential when keeping one’s “passions” in check…… otherwise you might end up spending the entire weekend, plopped in front of the TV watching the same sport over and over, or out on a golf course…. of course, many a marriage has been eroded by such behaviors and sports are seasonal and so therefore is the obsession… but, as much as we can joke about it, I am sensitive to the reality that it can be a problem…
juliebug #186, thanks for the videos! Those girls were so spazzy and it was a joy to watch!
That 2nd video (“Epic Win”) where he’s not listening to his handlers, over… and over… and over again! David is such a sweetheart and so oozy with goodness!
welcome to all the new posters… You will find this place an open and wonderful place to share. Bliss I have read your comment on utbe.. and youa say so well what is in my heart.
Abrra #160.. i hear you so well, i have recently needed to cut back on my blog time and am finding myself having a very hard time doing so…all I can think about is what am I missing? What is David doing ? How are all my efriends? ODD is the best affliction I have ever had, and that”s what makes it worth it . He brings me JOY!
HG … good things come to those who wait…I am glad that for all of us David has helped raise the bar… I know he has given me the desire to be more loving caring and just be more true to myself. Don’t settle! They are out there- I found one! (((hug))))
kizzi .#178, love your description of ND, well said.
And to the topic otf this thread- that first pic tells the story … GO big D… amen Rascal
“Epic Win” indeed! David is such a sweetheart! GAH! (And you wonder why the bar for me has been raised?)
I love how his handlers are trying to hustle him on the New York Minute schedule, and he’s just taking his Murray, Utah time! Of course, he always makes time for his fans.
Us Archies ain’t going nowhere anytime soon, except to follow David wherever he takes us.
(((refnaf))) What great e-friends to have! You help drown out the unhelpful advice of offline friends with all your positivity. Thank you!
Good morning all. i’ve been having a Youtube dialogue with someone over the issue of “Is David gay?” and why some people think he is. I’d love some feedback on these posts from the good people on this site. You can read them on the video “David Achuleta-New album & Tour” by Regentblok. BrianCB8 is the other poster. Please excuse some of my typos there. I was too fired up to proofread my posts. Thanks.
HG/juliebug/ronaldsf- I was struck by how human and decent David and his father are. They really view his fans as human beings, whose lives they touch. I will never forget the Giants football player, who shall remain nameless, in the airport who was walking casually to our gate when a child approached. He kept walking and said, “Ain’t got no time, ain’t got no time…” He had plenty of time…
lbkd193- I need a link!!
HG…Gah…I send you {{{{{hugs}}}}} also. It is a true testament to your self pride to stand your ground and not settle for anything but the standards YOU so desire in a relationship! Coming from the “older” group and married with adult children, I will tell you that there are 2 things in life you will do that are the “toughest”. Stay married and raise kids! You are a very bright young lady and seriously have time to find “Mr. Right”. PLEASE don’t settle for anything less. You deserve a “David Archuleta”! (albiet, probably an older one)!?
Rapture #156, “All the other performers had tons of equipment … dancers, … thrusts of fiery flames, fireworks etc. David’s act was by comparison, very simple and scaled down -- and BEAUTIFUL” and
Happy #133, “how can he sing Kanye’s song better than Kanye while sitting on a couch, slumped over, and giggling?” — perfectly said.
I admit I hadn’t heard “Love Lockdown” when I heard David sing that bit yesterday. Then I caught Kanye on SNL last night and almost fell off the couch. Even with all the techno wizardry, it was like a karaoke version of that snippet David sang. Wow.
mb #172: love your story. And so many great posts in this thread, can barely catch up!!
HG #174, “proving that such men like him exist at all” — trust me, they do (I married one) … in fact, you may already know one (but have overlooked his quiet, humble self)
I find I’ve been doing that lately — noticing all the “Davids” I cross paths with each day but have never truly appreciated because, like David, they quietly do the right thing and ask for no recognition in return.
I love to discuss every detail of David’s artistry and beauty. I choose not to discuss his personal life.
(My 198 was in response to 193.)
davidfanLIZ #198 -- AMEN
Bliss, uh-oh! That’s a subject (Is David gay?) that has caused drama on this blog, so as a newcomer, you may want to tread carefully with this one!
However, as someone who has kept up with some of the conversations the gay fanboys have been having, I can tell you what is triggering the “gaydar”:
1. His mannerisms -- the way he gestures with his hands (stereotypical, yes, but some people hold onto these signs).
2. His gentleness -- as if to suggest that “real” masculinity cannot accommodate someone like David.
3. His love of “divas” -- yes, I remember one gay critic who pointed out that, because he sang “And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going” (a favorite song from many gay boys’ favorite musical Dreamgirls), when he was only 11 and before the musical made a comeback as a movie, this was supposed to be “all the proof he needed” that David was gay.
4. He never had a serious relationship, even though his siblings have had boyfriends and girlfriends (thus indicating that this is David’s choice and not necessarily a family or religious restriction).
5. His discomfort whenever somebody always brings up whether or not he has a girlfriend.
6. His good looks (because lots of gay boys are mad cute), and the belief that he’s a “bottom.”
I personally don’t care, to be honest, but obviously many people do. As I said to the Albany crew, I’ve crushed on many a gay boy (is that why I’m still single? ha ha!), so a little old something like sexual orientation isn’t going to turn off my desire, but even among gay boys, there isn’t full consensus that David is gay. He sets off the gaydar for some, not for others.
Who knows? I don’t think even David knows, to be honest. Some people know when they’re 12 what they are and, believe it or not, it might take someone finding out when they’re 45. Obviously, this is not a cut and dry issue of clarity.
Just throwing in my $0.02 on this.
#193 blisskasden -- I looked at the channel comments on BrianCB8′s channel, and it appears that for the last month he has spent a fair amount of time on various sites trying to stir something up. I suspect that no matter how eloquent you are and no matter how good your points are, he will continue to take delight in arguing and resisting. Personally, I wouldn’t bother with him.
Bliss..I’m a sporadic poster on this site, but want to say welcome anyway. ND is a great forum for all things David, but (and this is my two cents) I think we should avoid this discussion about David’s personal life. Until David wishes to put that topic out there for public consumption, I don’t think it’s any of our business. The youTube environment can often be an ugly one. I learned long ago that for every intelligent person who posts a comment there, there are ten whack jobs who will write the nastiest of stuff. I’ve just stopped reading comments altogether to avoid the inevitable rise in bloodpressure..it’s futile ‘talking’ to these people anyway. The wonderful thing about sites like ND is that foremost, there is respect here for David, and Rascal moderates rigorously to make sure that everyone stays on track, without taking away any of the fun and passion in the discussion. I’m not quite sure how to finish my thoughts here…but basically, I think we should respect David’s privacy and resist bringing youTube battles over here.
Welcome again, bliss!
In regard to your question #193, I would refer you to one very “hot topic” that appeared here on NotingDavid a couple months ago. You see where a number of us stand on this question:
http://www.notingdavid.org/2008/09/the-gay-question/#comments
Liz, let me clarify: my response to Bliss#193 is not about delving into David’s personal life as it is to explain why there is even public discourse about David’s’ personal life what might have fueled this.
I don’t offer this explanation to start a debate about his desires (for how could any of us know? We’d only be guessing). In fact, if this inadvertently opens up a brand new can of worms, then I would happily invite Rascal to start deleting my posts.
But I do want to honestly try and answer Bliss’s question. I think it’s helpful to know where and why this question exists (after all, notice no one ever asks the gay question around David Cook or Chris Brown or Kanye West or Jason Mraz).
Something else. Last night, I went to see the movie Milk, a movie I recommend everyone go see because it’s a historical film that’s so timely. One of the important messages it delivers is why it’s important for gays and lesbians to come out of the closet and expose themselves to family, friends, employees, etc. By “coming out,” gay communities remove the stigma attached to them and challenge those outside these communities to look at them differently. Trust me, when you have gay relatives or friends, it’s not so easy to demonize the people you know. This is why I think there is also an investment in wanting to identify gay public figures who are well received and well loved. That’s a closer step towards fighting demonization.
And believe me (like I need to tell you): Demonization of gays and lesbians still exists. I cannot tell you how many fights I’ve gotten into with my preacher (who is such a closet case it’s not even funny) over this issue, but I’m not backing down.
Because I don’t want to create “silence” on this issue, I hope you don’t mind my addressing Bliss’s question.
Ahh, Milk… what a powerful, stirring, inspiring movie. I watched it for the 2nd time last time (this time with 12 friends), and I cried again. Highly recommend it.
whoops… “2nd time last *night*”
Hi Friends! Back for my second post! I say that is an irrelevant question also…….. Not worthy of discussion but I will briefly mention that my beautiful , stunning
(model worthy) niece, now 22, who is now engaged to the only boyfriend she has ever has had, did not date at before college. In HS, she was on the dive team, she had tons of friends, and like David a straight A student.
Now on another note, since the water was warm yesterday- I wanted to say one way David has changed my life! Somewhere I lost the joy of music. I was raised playing classical piano. I sang with the chorous in HS and accompanied churches in college. Even in law school I would play the piano in the study hall. I listened to music all the time! I purchased music and it was an important part of my life. Then life, kids, mortgage and a challanging career just sucked the life and music out of me! I did not even realize it had happened and cannot pinpoint when it did. That Les Mis that David refers to, I had actually watched on PBS and purchased the videos for my dad…for Christmas! Somehow over the past 10 years I left music! Well that has all changed with the advent of David! Music- ( all types) is back in my life! As well as the joy that comes with it. God bless David, is about all I can say. Sorry this is so long! All the best!
rae -- Great post. Me too re: lost music in my life from living it and fulfilling all those wonderful commitments I made over time. Yes, finding the joy of music again is akin to exploring a beautiful, new world!
Ronald, I cried too!
Good afternoon!
happy #188..I’m happily, passionately, obsessive about THE VOICE..can I help it if it’s coming out of David, and that David happens to be an ADONIS?
193, that is unfortunate that a discussion once again about David’s private life. Some people don’t get him and try to attack him in anyway they can. He is a spiritual person and some people don’t get that at all on what it’s like to be Mormon. I understand that he is now a public person, but I also understand that the people that try to take down David’s spirit and what kind of person he is, really don’t understand him at all. People judge me all the time, but they don’t know what I stand for or what is in my heart. This will happen over and over again. I do feel sorry for people that don’t get David, the true David, they really have a long way to go.
Let me put it another way..I’m obsessively passionate about THE VOICE!!
Abrra -- I hear you! I found it wonderfully therapeutic to actually sit across a table with a fellow NDer and talk and talk and talk. Nothing beats face to face. I try (!) to limit myself to 30 second updates when someone in my immediate circle kindly asks me what is new with David. Thank goodness we have each other here. Bottom line for me -- am I feeling better because of time spent with David’s music?
rascal said once: I don’t question what feeds my soul.
Since I spent 50 years in the great State of Utah, was a teenager there, watched my siblings grow up there, have tons of neices and nephews and step children who live there I am going to express a little insight into the culture that may, hopefully, stop some of the speculation out there that exists about this silly is he or isn’t he debate.
The predominant culture for many kids in Utah is to have a “group” of friends who you hang out with, usually made up of both sexes. Sometimes, for school dances you pair up but you usually end up hanging with the whole group sometime during the evening. You go to movies, and out to eat, and ride around in Dad’s car and listen to music. Even though you are “dating” in a broad sense you don’t have a girl friend. The conotation
Happy: I like your comments in 188. Life is a balance and I am trying to also find the right little spot for me in David world. There must be more internet space, sites, and blogs devoted to David than just about any other artist right now! I imagine it will only grow from here. I want to support him, follow his career and help in what ever ways I can. Many friends will be getting his CD for Christmas, I truly hope they open their ears and heart and not just see him as another teen singer.
Have you guys seen this? (Behind the scenes at MSG via Snarkies — looks as though David was having trouble with his in-ear monitor):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cT5eqiS_XBc
sorry….only half post above.
The conotation (sp) of Girl Friend, in Utah, expresses a much deeper feeling than in most places I’ve been to. Once she is your girl friend you are exclusive and everything becomes coupledom and the obvious next step is engagement and marriage.
In David’s realm when someone asks him about a “Girl Friend” he is alluding to the later and not the girls he hangs out with. Don’t judge David’s interpretation of the phrase on the experiences of the teenagers you know, who if I guy or gal says Hi to them they are girl friend/boy friend.
Thank you Tess, now I wish you could explain that to the YouTuber’s….don’t know if they will actually get it though
Regarding the gay question, I have said this many times: Whether or not David turns out to be gay, it will be a win-win. If he is not gay, his respect for himself and others will be a great role for others, and especially young people who need young figures like him.
If he turns out to be gay, he will be an awesome role model of respect and integrity for young queer youth, especially, who have few role models, especially among their own peer group, who are both public and out.
To tag on to my previous point, one of my frustrations with this question is that some DA sites allude that being gay is a “bad” thing. My husband I were just talking last night about how far we’ve come even since the 1970s, because now we have a film, “Milk,” in national release and a good number of out and proud public figures. But given the demonization that still exists, as a culture there is still a long way to go.
Before things go any further, I just want to reiterate that there’s no point in debating “is he or isn’t he,” AND point out that insisting that it’s silly to even think he is, is just another way of insisting on one outcome on this issue. It’s simply none of our beeswax.
I insist that anyone who wants to weigh in at least read the comments thread that I link to in #204, where we did arrive at a consensus of sorts on this issue. Well, those who have stuck around anyway
Ronald, good points!
TOfan..the only thing I saw on that link is when David started moving to the music! haha!!
Erin, Tess, et al, I hope you realize that, in the public conversations, when the subject comes up, this has absolutely nothing to do with David. So bringing up his religion, his hometown, culture, etc. has no bearings on this.
Whatever image is being projected, and how people respond to those images, says a lot more about what certain people are embracing or are hreatened by.
Gay fanboys embrace a certain idea about masculinity, the homophobes are threatened by the same thing.
Nothing to do with David, at least image-wise.
But, like I said, this is not about David’s personal life (and these conversations never really are).
Then again, I felt perfectly at ease talking about my heterosexual life on this blog just a few posts up (the ups and downs of being single and how David is now an influence on my choices), just as others felt equally at ease encouraging me and offering advice about my love life.
If I were gay, would I have felt the same level of comfort in sharing with you all the challenges in finding the “right girl?” Would enough of us here have welcomed that discussion?
Not only did I not think twice about whether or not I could share my privacy like that (even in the context of anonymity) but I didn’t even worry that someone would try to shut down the conversation.
Just some inequalities that still exist, which I thought I would mention.
Sorry, that should read “threatened” by.
Oh…and another thing. I bet you before David’s current success most of the girls in Utah would have thought David a BIT NERDY and NOT A MEMBER of the in crowd at Murray High School. To be popular at 17 in Utah you better me the school jock with the dimpled chin and the IQ of a bunny rabbit, or a counter culture rock musician who is anti establishment and wears gages in their ears. Wholesome, sweet, smart, talented, short guys need not apply!
I totally agree with Freofan’s point in #220. Win-win FTW!
Tess #227, Oh you mean like every other high school in America?
The girls at David’s high school are pro-buh-blee kicking themselved about now! haha!
Oh, Silverfox, you do make my day! Such a level head in all of this chaos. Kudos!
HG #210 – Yes, of course, I understood your meaning, and please know that I have only the upmost respect for you. I appreciated your honest answer to Bliss’s question. I struggled to find the words in my post #198 that would state my feelings, but would also be open to the concerns in Bliss’ question. Your post eloquently addressed his concerns.
There really isn’t a topic more private than the gay/straight one. We’ve spoken here in the past of how peculiar it is that the romantic lives of our “stars” get such scrutiny, when it would be ludicrous to ask these questions of a visual artist or an opera star.
Bliss – see what you started haha!!
Go Freofan! Loving your win-win post too!
Dang it, my stupid avi has disappeared again!
Sorry, I didn’t mean to call any of my David avatars stupid (you know I adore them!). But my stupid computer! Grrr!
Tess and silverfox, LOL at your posts! Yeah, when I first watched the “Crush” video, I totally thought of a storyline in my head where the blonde girl ends up rejecting David for another, “dangerous” guy. (And then the next chapter would be the ALTNOY video! Hahah!)
I’m sure, though, that while it was probably true that the jocks in his school attracted the girls, many other girls probably DID crush on David because he’s so talented, humble, and sweet! Too bad so many guys don’t realize that girls DO appreciate that. Sigh…
SF #224, ROTFL!
Ronaldsf, thanks for that link, I looked at the dates and realized I was away on vacation then and missed all the fireworks! Here’s what I found there, from Rascal:
“There should be no comments, references, or discussion about David’s personal romantic inclinations on this blog, until such time as David discloses a romantic relationship to the public.”
TOfan -- that’s what I was trying to say. Thanks rascal.
Since I can’t leave well-enough alone I do want to say that I really don’t give a damn about anyone’s sexuality. If I love and respect someone it is unconditional and their choices are always their choices.
I just wanted to point out that people making assumptions based on their own personal criteria is fruitless and pointless.
I guess the irritant, for me, is that, this subject keeps coming up.
By the way, I’m really mad at all of you! I need to do some housework this weekend or I will be able to start seedlings on top of my furniture and floor….and you guys are so much fun to talk to that I can’t seem to pull myself away. Maybe if I clean in 15 minute spurts I won’t miss too much. Luvs!
When the movie about David’s life story comes out and there will be a movie..mark my words! The highlight of the movie will be all the girls who passed David in the hallways and never gave him a second thought!!
Of course this is all speculation, cuz according to some of the vids I’ve seen of David singing at school functions, girls were screaming and swooning! Remember, David may be small in stature, but on stage he’s a GIANT!!
Speaking of THE MOVIE OF HIS LIFE STORY..I wonder if it’s too late to take acting lessons..I wanna audition for the part of his Abuelita!!
Dee/SF, you as David’s abuelita would be SO perfect! I grin at the very thought!!
#237 Tess…that’s us, our love, devotion & admiration for David is unconditional, the forever kind! We are David’s ARCH ANGELS!
SF, I doubt the girls were ignoring David. More likely he was cluelessly singing to himself and missing all the hints the flirtatious girls were throwing his way!
Ronald, why oh why did I go back to that earlier thread? Boy, things got heated in Rascal’s house! Those were the days.
Tess, like you, I’ve got work to do (grading), so now’s a good time to sign off and get this done (and just before the heat rises once more).
Liz #231, Good points! The issue of sexuality is so private, and you raised an excellent issue as to why certain public figures are questioned and others aren’t. I think it’s so sad when public figures are questioned about sexuality and pressured to come out.
I wanted to share a few things I’ve been thinking about. This has nothing to do with David, but has to do with public figures and these issues in general. For years, people swore that Clay Aiken was gay, and he was pressured in interviews to proclaim if he was gay or not. But Clay’s story reveals how coming out is a personal issue, not a public one. Clay has said that even though many around him were certain he was gay, it took him years to formally come out. He has said that he was terrified of telling his mother, to whom he is very close, and his brother, who from what I have read is very stereotypically masculine and very different from Clay. Clay said that it all came spilling out one day not long ago after he cried and cried, and his mother asked him what was wrong.
I guess the point of my post is that it saddens me to see public figures questioned if they are gay, as each person’s coming out story is personal and people make their own decisions in their own time and way and for particular reasons often known only to them.
Why..ronaldsf..thank you! Now I must see about those acting lessons..”I’m ready for my close-up, Mr Spielberg!” and practice my speech for the the Oscars when David I win!!
Regarding his high school, someone told me that students who are into music and choir in the area where he comes from are often well-known and even popular. I’d love to hear thoughts on this from anyone on here who is familiar with his area of the country, or town.
Just stopping by to see if silverfox saw my early morning post at #175.
I’m off to do errands & get ready for my trip to Atlanta this week to see/hear David in person for the VERY FIRST TIME!!!!! Can you tell I’m excited?!?!
Have a great Sunday, everyone! Thanks for being such a warm, respectful place.
I mean, when David & I win..David will HAVE to play himself as a man of say..25-30. cuz he’ll be that age when the movie comes out.
Deb, Yes I did..Kizzi & are are in sec F2, row D! I’ll be flying in on Tues evening.
Looking forward to seeing & meeting you, too!
Great, silverfox! Fly safe!
I’ve been meaning to ask this, but I keep forgetting! (surprise!)..Has anyone found out who actually put together all the info & photos? It couldn’t have been David, cuz he was clueless when someone showed it to him. I wonder if it was a family member.well it had to be, otherwise the mag wouldn’t have all those candid photos of David & his family from way back and recently?? I hope it was authorized by his parents if not David himself. This is another way someone can benefit by exploiting David..selling information and personal family photos.. What’s really great though, is that like that video about “Finding dirt on David” there is NONE!! haha!
A young actress from iCarly – Jennette McCurdy – did a live video chat on FOD last night. It was fascinating (I was doing my typical lurking and not participating).
Jenny on FOD says:
“The live video interview chat was a huge success! We had 989 fans in the chat! Wow! Jennette discussed working with David on the set of iCarly, visiting him on his A Little Too Not Over You video shoot, her own CD that she is currently recording, her acting career, David’s music, and other random topics! She was absolutely fabulous: funny, smart, articulate, and entertaining. And she danced! What a great interview! …….. We are working on video”
A couple of interesting tidbits:
When Jennette got the script for one of the iCarly episodes she became upset because the script called for her to kiss Nathan. She said she had never kissed anyone and thinks a kiss is a sacred thing. She did the scene of course and it was very technical with concentration on camera angles and such.
She responded to questions about her CD which will be out shortly. She said she tries to pick meaningful songs – songs with a message – and she actually worked with one of the songwriters who wrote for David’s album (Waiting for Yesterday).
It will be worth keeping an eye out for the video when they have it available – so much information. She is quite an amazing 16-year-old.
haha! I forgot to mention what the question was ABOUT! The Magazine of David’s Life of course!!
I guess the previous somewhat heated commentary got me all discombubulated!
As some of you may recall, I work for a small weekly community newspaper in the KC area. One of the things we do each year is invite kids from pre-school through the 4th grade to write a letter to Santa each year as a school project and then the teachers submit them to us to be published in the newspaper before we forward them on to the North Pole and Santa before Christmas.
I’m typing them at home this weekend as they will appear in this Thursday’s paper.
I’m happy to report that there are a couple dozen requests for David’s CD this year….so far.
Yay! haha!
I wish everyone on youtube, etc. would just let David grow up. I have known many, many nerdy 15-23 year-olds and they are so totally into their music, computer programs, debate team, etc. that they are basically oblivious to the “do you have a girlfriend” issue. All their energies are directed toward their main interest until much later than other kids. This is how many great musicians, inventors, people who live and breath their first love (thought, music, language, etc) often are. They do usually eventually bring their head up out of the sand and look around at the world, but it is usually later than most people. Most of my sons friends (nerds, one and all) didn’t have girlfriends until around their 3rd or 4th year of college or after that. They were to busy to look around before that time. David is David and he will wake up to that other world eventually. He is being forced to notice the world more. Additionally, I think mostly being home-schooled until around the 8th grade keeps you socially younger since you don’t get that back-and-forth banter with kids your own age. David is catching up very fast now and I love all the different types of people and personalities that he now gets to interact with back stage, at meet-and-greets, etc. Things do catch his eye from time to time as seen in this video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wKcZMkuvodA
OK…I’ve worked 15 now a quick break. Curiosity is killing this little Cat…and totally off of whatever today’s subject is….but does anyone know the history of Jeff and Lupe, ya know, like how they met, etc. etc. If you do, can you tell?
Juliebug #253, toooo cute! SF, when you pick up that award, don’t forget all of us little people!
Ronaldsf, back during A.I., did you post a YouTube video of Think of Me (studio version) with a quote from Rascal and the ND URL? I keep meaning to ask you cause, if so, THANK YOU! That’s how I ended up here and I believe my first comment ever was “Thank God I found this site, I thought I was losing my mind!” (i.e. the only ODDer)
stenocruiser #251, i was one of the 989 fans listening in. i was very impressed with jeannette and found her to be quite interesting. a tidbit i took away, she mentioned that for 2 wks after david appeared on icarly, the cast, crew, etc. continued to talk about david and how he had the “it” factor. jeannette mentioned that she wasn’t star struck by him but instead, she was “people struck”.
she also mentioned attending the Christmas tree ceremony with her mother and how her mother cried as david sang O Holy Night.
Ebonyangel -- she also mentioned that she had “goosebumps” listening to OHN.
She’s a fangirl. She PRE-ORDERED the CD. haha!
She’s a lot like David. Very down to earth. Very mature for her age….but yet with outbursts that are very much age appropriate. She’s like 16 going on 30 with bursts of 16. She seems to have a lot of the same views on the world as he does. She also rambles like David and can be very random like he is. Oh, to be a fly on the wall when they have a conversation. haha!
I loved her! Can’t wait for the vid. I laughed when she related how she reacted when she was invited to attend the filming of the ALTNOY video. haha!
She talked about what a natural actor he was, as most “celebrities” who are not actors tend to take on an “infomercial persona”. haha! But that David didn’t.
She also liked the way he laughed at her when she had her spaz attack when she walked into the makeup room and saw him sitting there.
I’ll bet she makes him laugh. Which is great.
She’s got all the lyrics to his songs memorized. She wants the third single to be a ballad. You Can or Somebody Out There. She also like Your Eyes Don’t Lie because it’s unique. Jenny asked her to pick 3-5 favorite songs and she couldn’t do it. She likes them all.
You’ll be happy to know that one of the songs that she mentioned a couple of times that she loved was “Somebody Out There.” She’s also a musician/songwriter so they have a lot in common there. I thought it interesting that she picked that song.
She talked about how she and another cast member talked about how after meeting him you just wanted to go out and do something good.
I wish I could remember all the little details, but it was a great interview.
She’s obviously more than a little smitten, I must say. haha!
Abrra #160 -- I am playing catch up today, but had to jump ahead and respond to your post. I can relate totally to what you said -- right now I have to get ready to attend a viewing and then race home as I am having 5 of my dear friends for dinner and what am I doing -- trying to not miss one word, one new video or interview or picture. Yes, David has certainly taken over our lives AND I have never been happier!
So at least you know you are definitely not alone. One more quick thing and then I MUST run -- last night I attended a Christmas concert and all I could do was think of how David sings that song or when will we have that Chirstmas album -- I couldn’t wait to get home and get back online. I seriously would worry about myself if I didn’t have this ND home of like-minded friends all going through the same experience.
NOW I do have to sign off -- but I will be back late tonight for sure:)
I cried when I heard the version of O Holy Night last year and the one this year….I have been taking my teenage son to church youth group but not going myself! After O Holy Night- I am back…with my daughter in tow.
Yes, another by product of David! Abraa on that ODD question, I have been trying to limit myself. One summer over HS, I worked at Krispy Kreme. I ate unlimted doughnuts for about 1 week. ( the hot ones off the press). After that, I could not eat another KK for about 2 years! I am trying to limit my David time, to a balanced approach. God willing he will not be going anywhere, anytime soon, nor will I.
Whew! I need to take a break from my grading (oh the terrible writing from students! Oops, you didn’t hear me say that).
N.E. ways, I came upon this insane quote from TWOP (those wonderful control-freak cynics):
“As much as I understand that people who supported Justin Guarini bemoaned that he got such a raw deal compared to the future runner-ups in terms of them giving Kelly a 6 month head start on an album or whatever the contract was, I don’t think that’s a bad idea. The winner should be given preferential treatment. I don’t think KLC and even Archie should have been allowed to release anything prior to Cook this year.”
Gosh, can you imagine? If we go by this argument, we would still be waiting 6 months from now for David to release his album, just because he came in second!
The fact that this is even a subject for discussion can only mean one thing: somehow David is perceived as being the more successful of the Davids (or at least just as successful).
Keep in mind, the complaint isn’t that Cook isn’t doing well himself (obviously, with the AI machine and massive promo behind him, he’s doing just fine). It’s that David is doing just as well. And the runner-up doing just as well as the winner is a problem because?
Oh yeah: because it takes away the meaningfulness of winning and being invested in the title. In other words, according to this rationale, David should flop just to give the show “legitimacy” since he’s a runner-up and not the winner.
Am I the only one who’s having a heckuva time wrapping my mind around the logic of that argument?
Ebonyangel and Juliebug — Yes indeed, so many interesting items in that video chat — I mentioned only a couple of the “hmmm” things (kiss being sacred, message songs). The beautiful Jennette had nothing but such positive and glowing things to say about David (of course what other kinds of things would there be anyway?) Maybe the video will be up tomorrow — we can hope. We know FOD has their silent Sunday so as to spend time with family (as suggested by Richard).
Thank you for welcoming this wallflower to the party yesterday. It felt great to break through that wall and to see so many others do the same. A legion of lurkers are we and we reserve the right to claim our spots at that party/concert for Original David Archuleta fans.
I wish I could be as good as David at deflecting questions that are nobody’s business or that he doesn’t want to discuss. How does he do that??? He is a genius at extricating himself from those situations. I don’t give two hoots about his personal life other than to wish that he is and remains happy. Okay, there’s probably more, like wanting to remove all the ugly stuff in his path. It is hard not to get sucked into defending him sometimes.
I am not sure if I am passionate about my David obsession or obsessed by my passion for all things David. It has been a conundrum for me for quite a while. People have said it so much better than I. I started with a passion for the voice, then became so enamored with his personality. I think a lot of people come to love him the other way. Once they meet him in person or through interviews, prejudices start to fall away and then the voice has a chance to work it’s magic. He is so darn endearing, polite, kind, caring and funny just being himself. I can’t imagine why anybody would want to put themselves in the public eye as he has, but he is certainly a role model for doing it well. I just hope he can also retreat when he wants to.
Just a quick storm update from New England. Now that many of us are getting back up to speed and able to reach friends to see how they fared, the picture seems brighter. Most of the damage locally has come from so many trees falling on power lines, cars, houses, etc. with flooded basements and food spoiling, but those are all things that can be remedied. Many are still without heat and power but we are a hardy bunch and I’ve heard some good stories about creative ways of warming up.
Per HG: David should flop just to give the show “legitimacy” since he’s a runner-up and not the winner.
I, like HG (ya, my cleaning is on hold, again) find the whole winner/loser mentality of so many AI fanatics very bizarre. Let’s have a show, invite everyone to participate, crown one winner (popular vote not performing skills or singing skills) and tell everyone else that participated that they have to wait 6 months to a year to have an opportunity to get their music in front of the public. Like I’m going to take them up on that offer…geez I’d have better odds in the lottery!
By the way, and I am fanning a flame, I am so glad that our David didn’t win…for the fact that he was signed by a management team and a recording company (the night of the finals, no less) not because they had to sign him per contractual obligations with the winner, but just because they believed that he would be successful for them. THAT demonstrates, to me, how good David really is!
218 Tess -- thanks for your explanation on the “girlfriend” interpretation. When David had blogged that Mietra wasn’t his girlfriend and that they didn’t “dig each other that way” he also said, “that would be like marrying my sister.” (I hope I’m not misquoting. It was very close to that.)
Anyway, I remember finding that interesting at the time because no one had suggested Mietra as a marriage partner, just as a possible girlfriend. It would appear that David doesn’t believe in casual dating; for him it is a serious commitment.
HG, #261, since record execs were reportedly fighting over David during A.I. and they swooped in to sign him the night of the finale, I wouldn’t have wanted to be the one to tell them they had to wait six months! The final placement was clearly irrelevant to them, if not to TWOP.
Tess, the problem with these small-minded AI fanatics, as you call them (and rightly so, I might add) is that they can’t see the bigger picture. The show should and is seen as exposure. The only thing winning promises you is a million-dollar record contract. Nothing more, nothing less.
Cook certainly got that, so why should hungry labels, who have obviously observed enough weeks to see David has massive appeal, talent, and potential, hold off on signing David? Just to give the stupid show “legitimacy”?
For crying out loud, the show has been on seven years and has given to the public platinum-selling pop artists, Grammy winners, even an Oscar winner! It’s gotten its legitimacy! It’s a massive empire. Surely, it can afford to have a successful winner and runner-up. Heck, S7 had so many promising talents, it should be invested in having all the Top 10 contestants doing well.
This competition thing is utterly ridiculous, and I’m disappointed that there are certain fans (Cookie fans or AI fans) who really think that David’s success undermines the show. His success enhances the show! Or, what are their pea brains not understanding here? No way does David flopping make Cook a more legitimate winner. Are you kidding me?
David obviously doesn’t need the AI title, and thank goodness he’s young enough to outlast AI when it finally fades away into irrelevance, which it eventually will.
#76 Deb
I just saw your comment about going to Atlanta. I live in SC and I’m leaving around 12 PM to get to Jillians by 2 PM to meet up with the FOD people going.
My e-mail is mamabodo2004@yahoo.com
HG #261, Tess #264: i never followed idol that closely but i recall being upset when clay aiken released an album before ruben studdard. however, after learning more about clay and how hard he worked to achieve his dreams, i soon changed my mind.
to me, the legitimacy of the show is already questioned given that the top vocalist doesn’t necessarily win (e.g., Doolittle, Archuleta). so i say, what does it matter who releases an album first. as for cook, i’m not following his career closely but it does seem that he’s reaping some benefits of being the winner (e.g., SNL gig, mandatory airplay on radio stations, etc.)
knotliser #263, thx for the storm update. i live in the desert climate where 60 degrees is considered chilly.
Ebonyangel, I too remember being upset that Clay released his album before Ruben (but very different circumstances, I believe, for I also saw that Clay was being promoted at a lot more gigs and events than Ruben, so there was disparate treatment going on across the board in the case of Season 2).
This year, Cook is still being treated as the winner, and the album release dates were within a week of each other. Cookie still sold more than David, so obviously David isn’t overshadowing Cook in sales.
If there is any overshadowing, it’s in cultural impact, and David is the one we remember, David is the one whose name gets dropped at the AMA awards show. He’s the one who gets referenced randomly in the press.
But, that’s not 19E/RCA’s doing (as in the case of Season 2). This is the media responding in kind to the David that enthralled them all from the first time he auditioned and who was the runaway favorite by the time the season started.
You can’t argue with cultural relevance, now can you?
I was also going to say: I believe Ruben and Clay were under the same label and management team (hence the reason I saw disparate treatment for they really didn’t have a clue how to market Ruben), while the Davids are both under different labels and management.
ebonyangel ?
Anywhere near Phoenix? I just went outside to pick up after the pups, my thermostat says 58degrees and I am marching around in shorts and a T.
Sorry, everyone, from the cold north. I do know how you are feeling, honestly. Salt Lake was too cold for me and it is probably temperate considering the temperatures and the ice storms in the frigid Northeast. Hope you are all safe and warm.

Bragger…..
My break is up! Time to head back to grading.
Here is an interesting remix of Touch My Hand (verdict is still out for me):

HG #270, thx for sharing your perspective. since i only watched the finale that year, i wasn’t sure what actually went down. and yes, david did walk away as the one everyone remembers. i’ve stated before that he has a huge fanbase of people who don’t by cds or listen to pop radio but will drop everything if he’s on tv. my mom and her sister fit into that category.
notice too from this link on Idol Day link on his myspace blog, david’s beautifully glowing photo is first. there’s no jordin, taylor, ruben or fantasia.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/feature.html/?&plgroup=11&docId=1000315401
some time ago, a tv show mentioned that although idol has had teens in previous yrs, david will go down in history as idol’s first child star.
Tess #272, i live in Phx. I’m about to go out and do some shopping so i just grabbed my light wt ski vest to fend off the 58 degree chill here. (smile)
On another note, Cindy from golden archies is forming a Phx area group on David’s new home page. for some reason, i keep signing up for his homepage but he the powers that be won’t add me.
Thanks for that link, EA. Heh, David is first ahead of Cook, and they’ve got Chris, Jennifer Hudson, Clay, and Carrie Underwood (no Kelly Clarkson?! Wow, I guess she has really fallen from grace).
OK, I’ve got to go. Really!
Signing off until next time.

Collegemom #254 Oh, wow -- you are right about someone catching David’s eye. Did you see that look? LOL!
Juliebug, #278, hahahahahahahaha.
Freofan #245 -- you asked about whether those kids that sang in chorus were popular in the Utah culture. In my experience (eons ago) in high school in Salt Lake, everybody sang and it was cool. We had a chorus, a small madrigals group and boys and girls quartets, all of which performed regularly at school assemblies as well as at venues outside of school. The jocks, the class and student body officers and the popular kids were part of all these groups. (We also had a modern dance club and a full orchestra, and this was a public high school.)
Maybe someone else can give a more recent update.
Regarding high school in Utah . . someone asked a while back what it is like for kids who are in music vs. sports in Utah. (sorry if this has already been answered) I live about 20 minutes from David’s family and my kids were the “nerdy” type who did music instead of sports. (2 boys, 2 girls). I don’t think they ever felt left out or “not popular”. They were just in a different group of friends.
Utah is really BIG into music of all kinds. A huge majority of kids take all kinds of music and performing lessons from an early age.
I loved HG’s comment about David singing to himself too much to notice all the girls looking (and swooning) at him. If his school was anything like my kids school, the group of kids that were into music were well respected . . even by the “jocks” and other kinds of “groups”.
I hope that answers the question. Sorry I don’t have time to go re-read and see who asked.
Haha . . davidfanLIZ . . looks like posted at the same time. Only you remembered who asked the question.:)
#278 How surprising to see the sweetness of Lady GaGa. From her looks, I just made an assumption that she was as icky as Katy Perry (who has appeared to me as self-centered and disgustingly arrogant in any interview I’ve seen).
In a previously posted video at Rickey’s David is chatting with fans and mentioned to one of them, “oh, you dyed your hair.”
He kills me! How many celebrities are there out there that notice when one of their fans dyes their hair?
mamasaun -- haha!
Just for giggles -
From a first grader -
I have been good. Can you get my brother a baby brother he has five sisters. I wan a D.S. really bad!
From a second grader -
I think I have been good this year. If I didn’t be good just give me a lump of cole or two. But if I was good I would like a DS. How are your reindeer doing? Most of all how is Rudolph doing? I am a big fan well everyone has to if they celebrate Christmas. Tell the elves that I said hi! Oh I want a new Hoola hoop too. P.S. I want the DS green red white or pink and a game called Nintindo dogs.
From a third grader -
How are you and the rindeer doing? I am doing great. Are you excited to go around the world and give gifts to every boy and girl? Is Rudolph still your head reideer and why is Rudolph nose wo red and glowing? Santa, here is my wish for others. Can you give other children clothes and food that don’t have very much? Also I know you are realy busy a lot of the time but give people what they need. Merry Christmas and a happy New Year.
David has a new blog!
Jingle Ball Updates … Philly Tonight!!!
Holaaaa. It’s me again with another blog. This week has been way busy with Radio Station shows. It’s actually kinda hard to keep track of all that happened. Sunday we had a show for an awesome crowd in Houston for the station KRBE, and then on Monday we went to Toronto, Canada! It was great going back to Toronto, and we ate at a Southern Italian restaurant there. I’ve never had *Southern* Italian food, but it was delicious. I then did a performance Tuesday for CHUM FM of Crush where I accompanied myself on piano. It was actually the first time I had ever done that for an audience haha, so it was exciting. And thanks everyone for coming to the shows! It’s so great to see the signs and familiar faces. I wasn’t sure how the performance in Canada would go, but it was just awesome to see the turn out. That same day we went to Buffalo for a performance for their station’s Kissmas Bash, and oh my heck there were so many people! The crowd was sold out of over like 15,000 people and they were insane!! It was so much fun haha. The day after that we went to Albany for the Fly 92.5 Radio show, and this one was really different from the rest. For their show they had a more intimate setting in a club, and it was just Ten Year Vamp, Gavin Degraw, and me. It was the first time I had done anything like it before and wow! It was just awesome! My ears were ringing after we were done, and it was sooo hot I was drenched in sweat lol. But it was just fun. I loved having the audience so close. And let me just say really quick that Gavin Degraw is wicked cool. I met him first at the Houston show, and then we had this one together. I love his style of music and singing and he’s a great guy. Next stop was Kiss 108 Boston, and Natasha Bedingfield performed at this one! It was awesome (as always) to see her again, and I just thought it was really cool to be able to perform at the same show as her.
So along comes Friday… dun dun dun.. haha… For the big Z100 Jingle Ball at Madison Square Garden. This was a really intense one, and I was pretty dang jittery throughout the day. Z100 Jingle Ball is a big big deal, and I couldn’t believe I was one of the acts. I don’t think I can explain (not like me being unable to explain something is anything new) how intimidating and nerve wracking it was to be sandwiched between Kanye West and Chris Brown in the lineup, and being 2nd to last lol. but hijole!! Coming after Kanye just felt so wrong for me to do, but man I had a blast! Never thought in a million billion kajillion years I’d be performing at Madison Square Garden with Brandy, Leona Lewis, right after Kanye West (even though I felt like a loser going after someone as amazing as that lol) and then Chris Brown and Rihanna. It was just sooo amazing!! The other really cool thing was that Z100 was the first station to play and debut Crush. Man it’s just such a cool thing to be able to to have done. And now looking back on it.. just wow.. But thanks you guys for coming to the shows! The energy everyone brings to the arena really helps us performers step up our game, and really have a great time up there. We have Philly coming up tonight, with Chicago and Minneapolis following after that. So for those of you coming to those shows, I hope you have a great time and thanks for coming! The party after the show was at a bowling alley, so it was fun to go and do that even though I was DEAD tired. my body was just aching since we had so much press and things to do all that day. It was fun to meet so many people though. Bruce Springsteen was at the show with his daughter and her friends, and it was definitely an honor to meet him. At the bowling alley I got to meet a fellow Jive Artist, Lesley Roy. one of her songs called “I’m Gone, I’m Going” is one of my most listened to songs on iTunes haha, and it was great to finally talk to her. She’s from Ireland, so her accent reminded me of my buddy Carly Smithson. It also reminded me of how much I miss Carly . I’d text Carly right now if my phone wasn’t still missing. But anyway… haha. Lesley’s a really cool gal.
Ok wrapping up here, I got a day off today! The band and I went to the Museum of Natural History in New York City. I loved it! It’s fascinating to see the kinds of things that are in museums. I took a few pictures, so I’ll try to load some up. They have tons of different exhibits and things to look at in there. I had a really good time.
Last thing I wanted to mention is that the Video for A Little Too Not Over You is going to be premiering next week on Yahoo Music! A lot of work goes into making videos so I hope you guys like it!! Sorry I can’t ever make these short but I’m done now. So I’ll talk to you guys later. Peace
Song for the day: A Baby Changes Everything -- Faith Hill.
This song is for the Holiday Seasons since it’s off of her new Christmas album. It’s a beautiful song and she has such a great voice.
TOfan #256, yeah that WAS me, and you are welcome! But oh, you bring back memories of my late (now-banned) YouTube channel. Sigh…
juliebug -- I just read his blog on myspace. What an absolute privilege to read his thoughts; he just puts his true self out there, no screens, so vulnerable. And, that is so strong! One of those contrasts that keeps my ODD in high gear.
Also, loved those letters to Santa. Christmas through the eyes of 1st-3rd graders.
ALTNOY video premieres next week?! *dies*
juliebug -- thanks for posting the blog. “dun dun dun..” Oh my heck, how can you not just LOVE this guy!
ronaldsf -- So what’s the story with the banned channel? (Unless it’s too painful haha!)
juliebug- thanks for the heads up on the new blog. I love him…. he really treats his fans like valued friends, so genuine and true. Now of course I can’t let the Springsteen comment go unnoticed -- please David, watch some old Springsteen-live-in-concert videos….
and the link you posted with the “I don’t want to get poked by anything!”- how can you not love him?!
btw- how can he still not have a phone?
ronaldsf- you have banned from somewhere too? what is goin’ on around here? you, HG, juliebug, who else?
I would retell, but ’tis a tale of woe,
And I don’t want to think of it no mo’.
Well, short version: I was trying to promote David, including with a video that had the Z100 premiere of Crush. It was a last straw for Sony/BMG and Co. Banned my channel without warning. Explains why I’m now “ronaldsanfran” on YouTube and re-uploading all my videos when I have time. Lost hundreds of great comments, though, which I miss the most.
awwww. So sorry ronaldsf!
are you all scratching your heads over David’s…
“but hijole!! Coming after Kanye just felt so wrong for me to do, but man I had a blast!”..
Haha..I was rolling cuz I couldn’t quite buh-lieve david would say something like that in Spanish..”hijole”! He must be practicing his Spanich for the CD..that word just
kinda means what David would normally say like “oh my gosh”, that’s all. but it just struck me so funny that David would use a Spanish slang on his blog! haha!
BTW, have had a real good time lurking here and watching the latest vids!
David is so funny..what a joy it must be for his friends & family when he’s home and talking about all the adventures he’s had since the end of AI..The way he writes his blogs is the way he talks, I’m sure. The only thing we don’t have is his hands going a mile a minute!
I was wondering about the videos taken of David backstage in NY before he went on..would he have minded if he had known he was being taped? He looked nervous and intense pacing. Not talking except to whoever the bald guy was…
Kizzi..do you find it strange David mentioned the concert tonight, Minn & Chicago, but not the Atlanta Jingle?
Uh-oh! Has he been told he gonna be there too?
He’s supposed to be the third act, before Colby, then Gavin. IMO, David should headline or at least appear before Colbie..
Hi Ronald,
I’m sure you lost alot of my comments -lol! Remember back in the AI days -- you always were the first to post David’s AI recordings and you also had the best quality ones. I wondered why your vids had disappeared. Would be a priviledge to meet you one of these days. I really hope we all have a fan convention next year. When you think about it we are all e-buddies who share joys, triumphs, and also despair. Thank you Rascal for providing such a platform as this. We are all bonded because of one special individual.
BTW, without shame I drove to B&N and purchased DA’s Life Story. For me it is a fun read, I learned new things I did not know about David before, and the pics are great!
Loved reading his blog! The Museum of Natural History…isn’t that the museum at the focus of the novel, The Catcher in the Rye?

I’m glad to read that bit about Cook and Salieri because that helps explain the bit I saw on the Best Year Ever on VH1--the one where Cook says “I am the David who won American Idol”and then he says “Suck it, Archuleta!”
It really seems in poor taste and inappropriate considering DA’s age and upbringing to use that phrase of all phrases. Cook is supposedly a word nerd--what exactly is he suggesting that David suck?? Or was he just not thinking? If he really is buddies with David I hardly think he would have chosen that phrase to use.
I know I’m probably overreacting. Cook’s whole skit was meant to be inappropriate and when Kathy G says the same thing about other celebs I laugh so I guess I’m just too over protective of David. But it makes me want to thump Cook!!
298/silverfox -- I noticed that he didn’t mention Atlanta & had a momentary panic attack. Maybe he only thinks about a couple of days out at a time …
OMGsh, he has to be in the Atlanta show!!!!!!! Do you think we’ll get a longer set since there are only 5 performers? I sure hope so. And I am praying for an acapella Christmas song at the end …
New York Times review is up!
http://www.nytimes.com/2008/12/15/arts/music/15jing.html?_r=3
http://ca.eonline.com/uberblog/b72877_Archuleta_s_Canadian_Crush.html
SF-just so happy for him!!!
hey- another convert…..my sister a music “snob” with excellent taste who discounts most anything pop…very impressed when I “made her watch” imagine, then never followed up….now she can’t wait to go with me to the solo tour.. don’t think she’ll become an Archhead though…
“Archhead” coined by ninaf… her husband was a Deadhead so she figures we can follow David and call ourselves Archheads
SF -- yes, I was looking for ATL in his commetns and nothing--he probably just forgot to mention. Atlanta will be his most fierce some performance as it is the last Jingle Thingie!
giapicchi -- Male humor and communication is so unique. Guys diss each other and that is a sign of affection with the right context. I think Cook was giving David a back handed compliment. And for Cook to have to remind people he won AI (even in jest) is pretty unusual, even if it is a joke -- says something about David’s popularity.
David’s blogs are getting to be so entertaining. Boy, for someone who says he has trouble expressing himself, he sure did an awesome job of describing his feelings before, during and after his MSG experience. I just love his unsensored emotions.
When fans said they could see him talking with Kanye backstage before their sets, I wondered what the conversation might be about. Knowing David he was probably apologizing for his placement in the performance lineup which would be pretty humorous considering what I’ve been hearing about Kanye’s sizeable ego. He probably doesn’t know what to make of someone like David.
David been learning from all these other Jingle performers around him but I’ll bet they’ve learned a thing or two from David as well!
I love the NYTimes review -- great for David
“….And David Archuleta might as well wear a sign saying, “Aw, shucks.” The strength of his aerated voice was almost threatened by his megawatt modesty. But by the level of the screams, that tactic works.”
Hooray for David’s first outing at Madison Square Garden. My heart is opening BIG TIME right now. GusH, GuSH, GUSH!!!
Modest, yes; MEGAWATT--YES, YES, YES. SCREAMS rivaled the established stars of the evening.
Yes, David Archuleta, you are a MEGAwatt Rising Star!!
Deb #302 -- Yes an a capella Christmas song! It would be simply heaven!
Kizzi..I think I’m gonna have to call Star 94 and demand they change the schedule of performances and have David headline! The schedule now has David performing 3rd, and Gavin closing. Only five acts though so that’s good as long as they don’t add any more. I want David to sing five songs plus a Christmas song! And it would happen if David closed the show!
I’m so selfish! haha!
Philly
They are throwing David’s “sweat towels” into the audience and the crowd is apparently going CRAZAH! LOL
Snarky’s is cell casting Philly tonight. Says David is on around 8-8:30pm.
Abbra and other who commented on the obsession topic:
I think about this a lot. Most of us here on this blog are in the same boat: Although we’ve always loved music, I don’t think any of us have been as completely ENGROSSED in the life and fortunes of a celebrity like we are now with David. And that seems weird to us sometimes, and borders on seeming INSANE to those around us.
But why is this happening? In college I was a little obsessed with U2 when Joshua Tree came out (dating myself, hah!). But it was more about the guitar playing, the type of songs, the style — and less about the individuals. I mean, I knew who they were, but I wasn’t learning their birthdays and the name of their pets!
So, getting back to the question: Why?
Theory one: The age of instant online grafication. Cellcasts, youtube, streaming radio. We’ve never had such immediate access to our favorite performers. Does this feed the obsession and make it much stronger?
Theory two: The combination of David’s mad skills, humility, compassion and personality (always smiling) has lit up a certain spot in our brains akin to the power of heroin or cocaine. He gives us so much pleasure that we can’t live without him.
Theory three: There’s something magical or spiritual about David and the connection he’s made with us. I’m not a religious person, but if ever I was to become a believer in the power of someone to spread a message of peace and love simply through his very existence, well, David could almost get me there. I know there’s a common refrain on this blog about not deifying a 17-year-old kid from Utah, but … If the thought of that (expressed privately) makes that person more optimistic, more compassionate, more appreciative of art and beauty, then I’m all for it.
Thanks if you read this far. And thanks rascal for the forum.
here I go again..confused..DUH!..I thought tonight’s concert was in Camden NJ??
Oh never mind..I just brought up the map..Camden may as well be Philly..right across the river fom each other.
Waiting for the cell cast..
Kizzi, what do you think of the schedule in Atlanta? Don’t you think David should be the headliner among those performers? Gavin is really good, but…
Ok, SF, give it a try. He should headline, yep, I totally agree. 5 acts is good and he is 3rd; hmmmm…….Kanye was 3rd to the end too at MSG, so maybe not a bad place to be. A Christmas song is a must. *finger crossed*
A while back someone was asking how to make those YouTube videos into MP3′s for your iPod. Here is a simple web tool that came over a LifeHacker RSS feed today. I haven’t tried it, but the instructions seem simple enough.
http://lifehacker.com/5109597/kickyoutubes-lets-you-download-videos-without-extra-software-or-hassle
caseydog -- thanks for sharing your thoughts on the obsession topic. I actually had a friend sincerely tell me recently that she’s worried about me & my ODD. She’s been very understanding thus far & is actually a fan of David’s (although not to the same extent as me & our friends here). She’s one of my deep thinking friends & really wants to understand what has happened to me since David came on the scene. I was at a loss to explain it, but your theories really make sense to me. Thank you.
If they want to keep the crowd intact, David should be one of the final performers. It’s been reported in earlier Jingle concerts, that people got up and left after David was done.
marlie7 -- I use http://vidtomp3.com/ for converting YouTube videos to mp3 files. It’s super simple. (My computer is a Mac)
Joner..well at the Houston concert, seems like ALL of David’s fans from FOD & Snarky’s left. I know the Snarky’s people left to get the vids posted. They missed a really good performance by Gavin..
I really think David is the big draw in Atlanta..I may be wrong but it seems to me that because of David’s success and all the buzz about David’s performances in the previous jingles, more tickets are being sold just because of David. David is IT right now!
#320 Thanks, Deb -- I’ll try that one out, too!
Re the ODD. I have long ago given up trying to figure it out. And my family has adjusted to our new normal -- as if David were another of our immediate family members. My kids ask me, “Where is David today?” the same way they ask about their siblings away from home.
All I know is that I am more tender, more gentle, more open, more spiritual, more loving -- happier and better. This experience has had a curious, almost palpable purity and intensity from the very beginning.
I’m old. I guess don’t question things like this anymore. I know its a gift. I just rejoice that I have somehow been allowed to be one of the people on this ethereal ride.
Are you guys listening to the cellcast at Snarkey’s? The sound quality is poor, but so far David has sung TMH, WFM, YC, & he’s singing ALTNOY right now. Woohoo!!
He’s singing ATM now!!!!!!
smanda #323 -- Beautiful comment!
Well, that’s FIVE songs! Please, David! Sing a Christmas song for us!!
CRUSH!!
He’s singing a Christmas song now! Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas!!
SF -- He’s singing “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas!!” OMGsh!!!!
He’s doing all kinds of runs on the Christmas song!
About the ODD theories (caseydog #313) -- I think, or at least HOPE, that it is a combination of theory 2 and theory 3; i.e. that the pure message of peace and hope flowing through David is the very thing that our brains are addicted to. Maybe it strikes a primitive “chord” that we have long forgotten living in this crazy world. David has injected us with love and joy, and we want MORE!!
WOW!!! He did 7 songs & there are a lot more performers at this venue than there will be in Atlanta. This bodes well for us, SF & Kizzi & mamabodo!!! YIPPEE!! Is it Wednesday yet?!
Folks -- This is the best Christmas song yet. Unbelievable!
“Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas”???!!!!?!?!?
*spazzes*
Have they been reading my repeated posts here at NotingDavid and at IDF about me wanting him to sing this song? Oh my heck… Jeff? Dean? Richard???
Of all the Christmas songs David has sung so far (besides OHN), this is a tearjerker, a heartbreaker…
I don’t if I’ll be able to handle it…
ronaldsf -- yay!!! One more for the Christmas CD! I think they really DO listen to the fans!
ronaldsf -- Be brave!! You can do it!
From the cellcast, the runs in HYAMLC were mind-blowing. (But, on second thought, it will be tough to top tree-lighting OHN as his best Christmas song performance).
BTW, earlier today the bidding for David’s bracelet package with the Bonnie Hunt package was still at $4,160. There was a last minute all out bidding WAR! It sold for a grand total of $6,550. Yay!
OMGosh! Deb..you may be right!! three more days!
Santa’s brought me my next wish, but I don’t know if I can rip open the package!!
And the crowd was quiet and respectful, so the MP3s should be good quality.
I heard Have yourself a merry little christmas on the cellcast at snarkies and it was the clearest song and sounded great!!!! It was the last song!!! David is singing us a free Christmas album since he didn’t record one this year!
Holy Snitzskies! Over 6 grand in that auction? Folks, somebody out there (heh) HAD to have the modern equivalent of Paul McCartney’s first guitar, lol. The shirt and bracelet will be worth much more than that in 10 years…
I couldn’t find the Cellcast at Snarky’s! Is that where it’s supposed to be?
ronaldsf -- I am going to stay up for the video -- WOW! I have to breathe deeply and slowly as I am hyperventilating & shaking -- “Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas” is my absolute FAVORITE holiday song. I am spazzing rright along with you!!!
Heartculeta: I think you might be right.
Oh dear, when I get home tonight I’m definitely gonna listen to HYAMLC.
Now my only remaining wish for these Jingle Thingies is for David to sing Somebody Out There… There’s only one left and so I’m worried it might not happen… If it doesn’t I would guess it’s Jive/Azoff’s doing (it’s not on the album), because us fans voted it in the Top 5 over at FOD…
Kizzi and others: The stars were aligned against a quick vid or mp3 of the cellcasts: rickey cellcasted cook instead, and Snakies had computer issues, so MP3 unlikely there too. Gotta wait for the vids!
I give up! I’ll just wait for the video!
They’re saying David wore a black vest with a white shirt
and black pants..”Sunday clothes” maybe? Maybe Black jeans?
Wow HG -- has David also moved you in opening up?! Don’t get me wrong. One of the things I have always admired in you, aside from your strength -- I looked up your blog from time to time
-- is your honesty. But I sense that you have this reserve for the personal areas, at least here in ND. Thank you for letting us take a peek.
I am probably one of those weird ones… been single for almost 2 decades. Haven’t found my one true thing cos as friends and now my grown up daughter would point out -- it is probably because am not looking! Haha. But its been a good life. Things will unfold, when & where they are supposed to unfold, right? And yes, DO NOT settle!
Oh and there’s absolutely no doubt now. David continues to sing a different Christmas song each show because he KNOWS his hard-core fans will rip them and construct a Christmas CD out of them. Why else would always do a different one?
Of all these other performers at the these Jingles, who among them would: A) even sing a Christmas song; and B) do so as a gift to his true fans? No one but David.
Caseydog #313 -- Loved your post. I must concur with Heartchuleta #332 -- at least for me, it’s a combination of your Theories 2 & 3. Today’s technology of instant gratification is simply the enabler for our obsession. And oh, what a sweet obsession.
ronaldsf #335 -- Okay, I’m officially going to *die* and get all gushy if I hear David sing my all-time favorite Christmas song. NO one has ever done it quite like Judy, but there have been a few covers over the years that were marginally good, IMO. I’m nearly as protective of this song as I was with Lennon’s “Imagine”. Links, people I need links to this performance. Who’s got the paddles?
I’ll take black jeans or “church slacks” -- when David is the wearer it’s not possible to say one is better than the other…
Caseydog -- thanks for the update. So, I’ll sleep now and check in early am for David fan concert goers who may upload videos right after concert.
BTW, I agree with all 3 of your premises. And the pure joyful pleasure is absolutely a natural high of the first order. Instant gratification of the electronic age combined with David’s inner gifts and spirituality are inescapable. Resistance is futile. Those who resonate to a high frequency, already get it; others will as his artistry unfolds. Not to get too freaky (don’t want to encroach on SF’s territory (
-- j/k SF) but this is absolutely an amazing journey!
I’ve just checked ‘A Baby Changes Everything’ Our David is LOVE! I have tears in my eyes.
I think those who were wishing for a Christmas song were heard. Have yourself a merry little Christmas…
And ALTNOY video next week. I’m so happy I’m on holiday and I’ll be able to feed my ODD big time.
Yes, caseydog…
And everything indicates that David will be prolific in the sheer quantity of music he will make for us over the years, always giving us new things to look forward to, and frequently. We are so spoiled! But it’s oh so good…
I just kinda made myself laugh thinking how one minute I can be thinking so deeply about why David moves me spiritually and the next minute I am pondering about his pants… lol
ronaldsf and everyone else -- let’s put it out there in the ether: David, please sing Somebody Out There for your fans who love you so dearly. ronaldsf, you did it with HYAMLC, work your magic again haha!
“but hijole!!
bwahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah!
If I could I love this kid any more than I do now, my heart would literally burst! And for him to be sooooo down on himself and putting up other artists and say he is unworthy -- I tell you, his modesty/humility is pathological!
Yeah, I think that’s why he is, the way he is. To give us some hope to survive! Can you imagine what would become of us when he struts his stuff, veers away from that pathological road of modesty and embrace his power?
Ooooooh my heck!
I’ll try, davidfanLIZ!
“Now, Santa? I’ve been VERY good this year. SO good you don’t even know!!”
I’m also protective of HYAMLC haha Kurt1960. I loved Judy’s version for its simplicity and emotion. And now I hear that David put runs in it and I get little anxiefied. But I shouldn’t freak out. Trust the Archuleta!
I’ve thoroughly enjoyed being part of your community today. Blessings to you all! I will say silverfox’s prayer for David before I go to bed tonight (can’t wait to get the mug I ordered!).
And please, Ronaldsf, use your powers & make it happen. SOT is my absolute favorite!!!
Nite, Kizzi & Deb!
JR..you noticed “HIJOLE” too!! Isn’t he hilarious!
Okay, Santa…
SEVEN REASONS WHY DAVID SHOULD SING “SOMEBODY OUT THERE”:
1. He hasn’t sung it yet!
2. How else will people get to hear it. It’s not for sale!
3. David co-wrote it. He will “feel” and “get into” this song more than others.
4. I think it has great lyrics -- simple, tender, love and longing for a friend in a natural sort of way and not a “romance and running in the fields of flowers” sort of way.
5. It shows off a style -- acoustic soul, like India Arie -- that David has yet to showcase in his live performances so far.
6. In the falsetto parts his voice sounds so sweet and pure -- singing it will break many of the hearts out there.
7. Because I want him to, dangit!!! Puh-leeze!!!!
ronaldsf…DITTO!
Any videos yet?
Where are the videos!
heartchuleta, #360, don’t worry about it, a lot of us to that all the time!
Whoa..no vids yet? Well I can’t wait up so I’ll say g’nite all, and for David, who we adore!…
NotingDavid: Comments on Dec. 14, 2008
Iamblisskasden #41, #67 & #193: Just a note to welcome you to this blog. I’ve enjoyed your posts at Youtube for a long while. Good to see you aboard. I enjoyed one of your recent posts over there to the effect that singer/performers have to have been in the business for years before they find their audiences singing along with them, yet David has managed it in a matter of a few months, an outstanding achievement by any measure.
Your comment above that, “He has, just by being himself, created a debate within society about what exactly is masculinity, self confidence, humility, modesty, and many other qualities that have gone unexamined for decades. To think that this sincere, utterly charming young man could actually be a polarizing figure in society speaks to the change that is just beginning in how people act and treat each other” rang a lot of bells in my head.
On July 16 this year I wrote the following under a different nom de plume in a blog run by the Salt Lake Tribune:
“…..David……. is blissfully unaware of the great weight that has been placed on his shoulders, the hopes and best wishes of multi-millions of his fans that he should be the standard bearer of a new breed of cultural hero, heroes who are not afraid to exhibit virtue as a normal part of their actions and lives. Only time will tell if there is still hope for this deteriorating nation.”
For this statement I was accused by another poster of being a spokesman/apologist for the Mormon Church, which made me laugh almost hysterically since I am both an agnostic and gay. But that aside, I agree with you that David is a polarizing figure precisely because of his non-conforming public personality. For many, myself included, and most everyone here at notingDavid, David is such a breath of fresh air in a world that seems to be sinking deeper and deeper into a fetid swamp of brutish, bestial behavior. Its as if he has come along just in time for many of us, we multi-millions who had just about given up hope that the old values of truth, honesty, simplicity, decency, and innocence had disappeared from public life and from public morality. My father lived through the depression and he used to tell me that our nation had lost its way since WW II, that the shysters and hucksters had triumphed over decent, ordinary people, people like those here at this site. I have been comforted by my belief in the law of karma, that there are consequences for the actions one takes, and extended exponentially, for the actions that nation’s take. Perhaps we as a nation are about to reap the karma that we have sown for the last half-century.
If karma is the operative law of the universe than David is certain to reap huge rewards when his time comes, when he transcends to a new level of awareness, because all of his actions so far have been admirable to the nth degree.
So, welcome to you, and to all of the other new posters to notingDavid. May the man-child who brings us all together with rediscovered hope and joy in our hearts continue to bless us for many, many years to come.
Oops!
“It’s as if….”
“….that nations take”.
Pesky apostrophe!
Realmusiclover, that was beautiful. Thank you.
And, thank you ALL for the hours I have spent today looking and loving everything you bring to the feast of David.
What a lovely place this is to visit.
Late to the party as usual. Just wanted to check in one more time, before turning in for the night, to see what I’ve missed…
WHAT…JUST…HAPPENED?
Omigosh, there’s a new blog, new concert report, new videos, new reviews…Whew!
David, dear David, I love you. That blog alone grew my heart three more sizes. Keep this up, and you’ll have a whole planet of Grinches-with-oversized-hearts. Can our heart vessels get any bigger? Of course they can! Because we need to love you more and more and in ever expanding ways.
Paula wanted to squish your little head off and dangle it from her rear view mirror. I want to take your 1000-mega-watt smile and launch it in the sky, and I swear it will shine brighter than the sun. You could solve the economic crisis with your smile and your great big heart. You could solve the world hunger situation by having the masses thirst for you alone and nothing more.
You are magical, and I’m a proud ODDer, like so many others here. And did I say that I love you? ((((David!))))
JR, how is this for really opening up on the personal areas?
Gee, step out to visit the inlaws and miss soooo much.
Juliebug, thanks for the Santa letters. Makes me believe again.
Ronaldsf, #289, Thank you again, and sorry you were banned (but makes you a little dangerous, right? lol )
Happy, #305, another one comes under David’s spell! (I think my sister could be next!)
Caseydog: I’ve been thinking about that too and all your theories work for me! I also agree with your (I think it was you) theory about these songs being David’s way of giving us a Christmas album … he’s a wise young soul, isn’t he?
And that blog????? Love, love, love him. And did he really sing Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas??? I’m with you RSF & Kizzi, that one song in Meet Me In St. Louis is Christmas for me every year. But lately, in David World, every day feels like Christmas!
realmusiclover, wow, just, wow.
Beautiful sentiments, realmusiclover. Absolutely spot on!
Caseydog,
All 3 of your explanations are so helpful. I think I need to step back as soon as all the concerts are done. I need to decompress from all the constant media about David. Thanks to all who sent me kind words on my emotional reactions to ODD. Special thanks to SF for her daily prayer. I do read it. I am not a church goer, but I have a personal relationship with God on my own terms. Thanks to rascal for making the mug available with the prayer.
I will let go and let God.
Peace.

LOVED your post -- Beautifully stated and right on the money!
I just got home and have been reading the posts since my last visit. First of all, David’s sexual preference (if he even has one at this point in his life) if of no importance to me one way or the other. The reason I asked people to read the exchanges between me and “Brian” is because I feel that David has started somewhat of a social revolution, and Brian represents the backlash caused by it.
Brian says that he thinks David is a great singer, but he also insists that he is gay because of the very qualities (kindness, sincerity, warmth, etc) that people who love David admire about him. I think David is causing people to rethink their attitudes towards traditional masculinity, and this is causing those who are invested in the status quo to be threatened. David is not a crusader for social causes. He’s just living his life, and his dream. However, his incredible popularity and charisma has caused people of all points of view to “care” about him, and they are reacting to him. Nobody would be more surprised that this has talken place than David himself.
I think David is singlehandedly causing people to revisit attitudes about many things, including, but not limited to,
definitions of masculinity. This is a good thing, We haven’t seen anyone like David in many years. That’s why there are so many websites like this one devoted exclusively to him . Elvis and the Beatles also challenged the status quo, and there was a great backlash against them too. David is a force of nature. Let’s not make anything about him taboo. It’s not about his personal life. It’s about the effect he is having on everyone else’s personal life.
Hi All -- I’m a little under the weather, (I think it’s the flu), haven’t had too much time to post -- just lurk. The dialogue here just keeps my mind aware and growing.
I have to say, Realmusiclover, your post is amazing and summed up so much of what I see in David, not the Messiah, but just a glimmer of hope and positive influence on our current generation. Please stay around and continue to comment, I love hearing what you have to say!
The one thing about David that is not subject to debate is his talent. In my half a century (oy!!) of loving popular music, I have never been so excited about a singer as I am with David. He is, at the same time, thrilling and moving, as well as overpowering and tender. He gives me the chills, moves me to tears, and enriches my soul. Nobody, not even the great Elvis, has done all of that. I have mourned the slow decline of the great music I grew up with and enjoyed as I became an adult. I could not wait for”oldies” shows on PBS so I could again enjoy the great sounds of Doo Wop, Motown, and the British Invasion. I thought I would never again be excited over a great new song and an exciting new artist.
To me, David has given pop music new life. He is a student of the history of pop music and has great respect for the songs and the artists of the past. I love him for that. He is a person of integrity, both in the music he chooses and the way he lives his life. He is both brave and vulnerable. He’s just 17, but he is the teacher and I am the student.
caseydog -- 313 -- ah yes, the perennial “why??!” Maybe you were sort of kidding?, but your “Theory two” apparently has some scientific support, if that “Brain on Music” book author is right. (Actually, I’ve been reading “The World in Six Songs”, not Levitin’s earlier book, which Rascal mentioned some time back.) Music releases the neurochemical “oxytocin”, stimulating the pleasure center of the brain. But that still begs the question—how does David have a complete MONOPOLY on that brain center now?!?!
OK, enough with the brain center… on to the heart!! HYAMLC? Where? OMG… off to YT search.
And heartchuleta -- 332 -- yes, it apparently *is* a primitive chord—again, according to the Levitin book, those who enjoyed music (and dance) had better survival skills and were genetically selected more often than those without that trait. So, with that line of thinking—looks like David has been genetically selected for ***millenia*** to move us in such a powerful way!!
Awww -- realmusiclover 370 -- sniff. Yes, yes, beautiful! Bravo!!!
I am late late late to this party
Smanda #323 “I’m old. I guess don’t question things like this anymore. I know its a gift. I just rejoice that I have somehow been allowed to be one of the people on this ethereal ride.” Oh YES to this and the rest of your post. If I might add one thing to your list of things you are more of: I am calmer within myself, more at rest, at peace. David has renewed my love of music and enriched my life beyond belief. I am so thankful that I have this warm, inviting place where I can share my feelings re David with others who feel the same.
realmusiclover #370 your comment spoke to me
HG #373 I know when I open up I feel almost liberated. Keep that bar high, you are worth it!
Iamblisskasden #378 I think David threatens on more than one level -- from redefining masculinity? to adjusting today’s morality/spirituality code… Most people think seeing is believing, yet with David they are frightened because they are afraid to believe what they are seeing, that anyone can be ‘that good’, ‘that committed to thinking of others first’, that humble’ etc. Most people cannot accept that believing is seeing (which is how I have come to relate to David) -- it takes a leap of faith to accept the unexplainable.
“Let’s not make anything about him taboo. It’s not about his personal life. It’s about the effect he is having on everyone else’s personal life.” I will think on this. RASCAL what do you think?
Iamblisskasden #380 “He’s just 17, but he is the teacher and I am the student.” I feel the same way.
To all lurkers who have made themselves heard -- welcome. I have enjoyed your comments.
To all other “regulars” thanks. What a thought provoking group.
Yeaaa! HYAVMC… finally:

(“finally” in the Land of Archuleta is about 10 minutes! lol)
“Your troubles will be miles awaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay…!!!!!”
GAH, omg omg -- thank you ronaldsf for casting your wish out there with such powerful intention—you pulled in a **BIG** fish! That rendition is OTT awesome. Here’s hoping for better mp3s though (sans screaming).
Abbra You’re in good company. Either I’m constantly mentioning something David said or did or I ‘accidentally on purpose’ shift the focus of a conversation to David. I know it’s not normal to constantly be thinking of him, night and day while one or two of his songs is playing in my head. And I’m a grown woman, too, with a daughter his age!
The thing is there’s an avalanche of info right now, pics, videos interviews and the excitement of seeing him grow each day is part of the attraction! These early days won’t last forever.
I recently joined Noting David too, and I think it’s going to be the perfect support group for us.
