Oh My Gosh, Liz, that was so beautiful, spot on, and eloquent, I hardly have words to express my feelings. Thank you. He is a complicated young man indeed. Must be why, after a year, we still find him more fascinating with each layer we peel away. There is so much to love here. He truly has the Spirit within him when he sings and it reaches our own spirits. His music is like a revelation that speaks to our souls and tells us we are cherished.

Good morning all! LIZ, a simply beautiful post! You’ve captured David’s luminescent qualities so eloquently.

Watching that version of “Angels,” it just soothes my soul. David really goes inward. He literally lights up! He is so beatific when he sings. And that tiny gesture of offering up a prayer before he sings, what can I say?

That quote from him -- “That’s why I can’t get a big head. It’s not coming from me. That’s what I like about it. It’s all in the music, you don’t have to say anything” -- is the reason why he could never be Disney, no matter how hard he is forced into a box. David is just too deep and too profound to be “just another teen star.”

Wow, that “Save the Day” is awesome! Yet another song that should have made his standard CD. Jive, sometimes I don’t get your decisions.

LIZ, your blog was spot on. The spirit connection is why I am still interested in David Archuleta.

Yes, he has a beautiful voice. Yes, he is a beautiful young man. But what sets him apart is that when he sings, there is something special that happens between him and the listener. I get that with this version of Angels. I get that with Save the Day. Listening to David is such an otherworldly experience.

Sometimes when I listen to him sing, I have a big smile on my face. Sometimes I get goosebumps. Sometimes I cry. I try to tell myself that this is just an 18 year old kid. But my soul knows better. There is nothing ‘just’ about him.

Dawn, Oh that is weird, from Dawn to Dawn….I too wish I was as grounded as he is.

I love all of the international buzz that David is getting. The press is so good, it’s getting me very excited about the rest of the year. I am strapping myself in for this spectacular ride.

I really love this forum because it helps me sort out my feelings. Sometimes I wonder “He’s just 18. Why do I obsess so much over an 18 year old boy?” And then I come here and know the answer. As brooklyndawn said “there is nothing’ just’ about him.” The way he connects with his audience is the main reason for my ODD. “There is something special that happens between him and the listener.” David’s singing makes us run the gamet of emotions in one song. It’s the emotional connection that is so powerfully addicting that it keeps bringing us back for more.

SF You’re so smart to give credit to Lupe. I can only imagine how she feels today. I hope the entire family is there tonight at the opening night of David’s solo tour.

SF, I do think of Lupe. David is her first born son. I have one of those. I recall clearly when Stephanie entered our lives, and I felt that little tear in my heart knowing he’d grown up , and I would have to share my baby boy.

Now Lupe… is sharing her baby boy…with the world… and I can’t begin to imagine the depth or complexity of those emotions.

The happiness and overall joy of having your child achieve what he’s always dreamed of, coupled with him reaching adult hood, and then throw in the millions of hearts and hands reaching out for him…

Ah yes… I do think of Lupe. I wonder if we could send her a message, or just say a special prayer for her as well today.

It’s just so fantastically disorienting, how the same person that can bring me to tears in one second, with such an impassioned version of Angels, can have me chuckling the next second at his ability to just be downright silly.

SF -- One of my favorite Lupe stories was about way back on Homecoming week during AI. A fan was talking with Lupe during the AI tour when they were in SLC and asked her about how hard it was to not have David at home. Lupe got tears in her eyes and shared that it was hard because she wasn’t prepared for it. She thought she had more time with him. Another year and a half of high school before he left for college or a mission. So she hadn’t psyched herself up for him leaving home yet and then boom he was gone! But she also shared that when he was home for that day (Homecoming) she didn’t even have enough time with him to fix him a meal and that some of his friends came over and they were downstairs and all of a sudden he bounded up the stairs like the house was on fire and asked, “Mom? Can I borrow the car?” She was THRILLED because it was so NORMAL.

Liz -- your post was just exquisite -- just like David’s A Capella performance of Angels. I didn’t notice the gesture from the many times I watched this video -- I will have to view it again, as if I really need an excuse to watch pure perfection!

Brooklyndawn -- I so agree with you -- The connection between David and his listeners is palpable. You can feel every emotion he feels -- no one sings with as much heart as David.

As for the bus…I’m picturing a line of cars following David’s bus from venue to venue, picking up more cars as the Tour progresses, all the cars blasting David’s music as they cruise down the highway. News helicopters overhead filming & recording the sight of hundreds of headlights following David Archuleta’s bus, saying they’ve never seen anything like it!

SF-she is not only beautiful on the outside, but on the inside as well. The 30 minutes I spent with her is treasured. She shared with me the one thing she wished for more of were kisses. So that night I told him to please kiss his mom more often!

I was thinking of this movie I saw, one of my favs, cuz I’m a basketball nut..called Hoosiers. There’s a couple of scenes of the school bus carrying the players and a line of a dozen or so cars following the bus..it looked so cool! Real fans following their heros from game to game. That’s how I picture Fans following David’s bus.
Of course, they would HAVE to blast his music, so he wouldn’t freak out!

Hi Everyone. I am in Virginia Beach, across the street from the venue--it is gorgeous. A sophisticated setting for David’s first solo concert--I am thinking that had to be planned. The community is beautiful, the air crisp, the sun shining and the sky is blue with wispy clouds laced with jet trails.

Neat Story: The parking valet told me that a “celebrity” was staying at the hotel. I said “Oh? Who?” (heeheehee) He said David Archuleta and then launched into a long soliloquy about David from Star Search days to his “FIRST SOLO CONCERT that is SOLD OUT” *in hushed, awed tone* (I was thinking of asking him to join our blog--a nice 20-something man).

Lobby is filled with females but curiously I only saw teens to older adults and no children. Tonight one of my goals is to study the audience a little. Also several groups of 20-30 something guys and girls.

The receptionist told me the hotel was full and that was because there was an “artist” performing across the street. She was in early 30′s. I said “Oh? Who?” and she said “Archuleta.” I said what genre does he sing and she said, Pop R&B and Soul and then told me about “Crush.”

I am going to try to leave messages here with my Storm but if not, I’ll do my best after the show to post. I’ll take pics if possible but they told me no pics and no cameras/videos.

I just saw pics of some of the fans outside the venue..and most of them are WEARING SCARVES!! YESSS!!

Signs saying NO CAMERAS or VIDEO at the request of the artists…Well I can understand at a venue like this. This venue is meant for the paying audiences’ enjoyment..BUT that means no Videos!!

OK…this is where I need a reality check…My youngest daughter in her late twenties said that I was obsessed with this and that I should find something more worthwhuile to do…I am here sick today, missed the trip to Virginia Beach…and yes I have been near the computer but feeling too badly to do much else…I was on the computer sending tickets to Kizzi and that took some time because they would not download…I was not functioning very well I guess…Am I being silly and obsessed? I have done eveerything all of my life by the book and yes this is different and maybe different for my age…

Any thoughts on the subject so that I can see myself as someone other then an obsessed person???

The request for not camaras is not from David, the sign was always there is like a general procedure not for this particular concert.
The fans there need to ask to some person in the place to got the real information and if this is real, maybe tray to convince
to allow the video-camaras .
I remember in the American Idol Tour and JB many venues has the same sign and in the final they allow people to take pictures and videos. Then…. please fans there ….TRAY PLEASE for US!!!!!

SB: This makes you happy (as it does all of us here). Let yourself enjoy it. It is no different than the guys who have a favorite race car driver and own the #3 (now #8) on every hat, decal on their truck and sweatshirt. They spend oodles of money to go to the track to watch people go around in a circle in fast cars, have to tape every race, and travel miles to finally go to the Daytona 500. Is this any different than something like that? No!

I’ve been to lots of concerts where the artist just rips through it. Remember he warms up thoroughly and really knows just what he’s doing. when he was recording he sang for hours.

Yeah, I remember now. The FIRST concert and some selected others will get front pages. Some of the others will get a tour page. Either way is fine as long as comments stay on the front page. So much easier to find them.

I went blog hopping. I first tried Blog tv at Snarkies. Then Rickey’s was he wearing a pink hat? LOL! The I went to FOD for a second. Finally my pc thought I was too frenetic and couldn’t quite catch it’s breath. Finally I ended up back at Snarkies.

He was magnificent. The crowd showed him so much love he must be walking on air right now. Maybe he and the band are dancing back stage. Some were worried about the expansive song list. Don’t worry about him, don’t you know young men have lots of stamina?

What will set this young man apart he that he can truly sing. No bells and whistles (he sang YEDL, OMG!)needed. Then there is the connection he has with his audience. How is it that he sounds better live, than on the cd? Must have video!

brooklyndawn, I’d almost bet money he coulda gone on for another 20 songs. He was on FIRE. He was PUMPED. STOKED! As well he oughta have been for the THE first night of his Brilliant Solo Career!

brooklyndawn: He had so much fun singing YEDL and he whistled…I like the song on the CD but the live performance was fun and funky and he was having a blast…it was one of the early songs and I loved it and then a tsunami of songs washed over me…I am grinning and I grinned throughout and the audience was IN LOVE with him from 8 -- 80 and a couple of babies and babes thrown in.

I think one of my favs ..which I’ve watched 4 times just now is HRC .. during ATM .. when he pauses to make sure a woman in the audience is okay, and stops midsong to adjust his pedal..and then just continues on without a missed moment of pure soul..the smiles during that performance just makes me hope we never lose that about him… those smiles…that could melt a thousand miles of cold hardened hearts.

Ok, so I just got back from David’s FIRST EVER SOLO CONCERT at the fabulous Sandler Center for the Performing Arts in Virginia Beach, VA. MY HOME TOWN! WOOOOOT WOOOOT! Ahem. Ok, I know. I know. I didn’t mention this to anyone because I was afraid one of you might come looking for me in Row BB Orchestra Pit to give me a beat down (or at least a verbal scolding!) for my past transgressions! Whew, so I escaped that bullet, lol! Oh, yeah, so did I mention that David was 6 feet away from me while singing his little heart out and playing the keyboard?! Holy Nutterbutters!! Ok, whew. Gosh. I’m feeling faint all over again, haha. No, really. I’m fine now. Truly, I am!! So, I won’t go on and on like some people with their 5000 word concert reviews, lol…but suffice it to say that it was one of the coolest events in my recent memory--David’s First EVER full solo concert…and My First EVER time seeing the little guy in action!
A NIGHT OF FIRSTS ALL AROUND!!

David was in fine form both vocally and mood wise. He was so incredibly giddy and overjoyed. Both he AND the band were just stoked from start to finish! David kept saying that he “couldn’t really believe this was really happening….and that he just was so excited that this was actually happening--his first solo concert!!” He was all smiley and chatty…all night long. A real joy to behold. OH, and it was so neat when he took a picture of the crowd….yeah, he literally ran back to the drums to get his camera….said he HAD to get a pic of his first solo show!! He was like a kid on Christmas morning!! Boy, was he ever smiling from ear-to-ear as he took the pic!!

I’ll give you a brief commentary on the following. If I can think of more (and if I regain my strength this evening sometime!), I’ll write more later. If you have any questions, please feel freeeeee to shoot them at me! HAHA.

1. Touch My Hand—David just rocked this one out, baybee! Left me speechless. It was incredible. The screams of the crowd, the lights, the band….just ahhhmaaazing!!

2. Barriers--Yo, our boy can saaaaaaang. You know, not sing…but saaaaaaaang. Nuff said. Vocal showcase.

3. Your Eyes Don’t Lie--I actually loved this one live. David whistled the first part himself!! Such fun!

4. A Little Too Not Over You--AWESOME new intro…rocked it out biggg time! Super strong vocals.

5. Somebody Out There--OMG. So beautiful. This was one of the very best. Vocals cut right thru you.
6. My Hands--Yeah, baybee!! Soul brother #1 jammin on this one. One of my faves from the album.
7. Works For Me--Soooo freakin’ cool. He gave us a peek into what the song meant to him. He seemed so stoked to sing it…and he delivered! Falsetto working like butter on hot toast! Superb!

8. Waiting for Yesterday--I loved this one so much. David was pitch perfect…his musicality and timing are just incredible.

THE MEDLEY WAS INCREDIBLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

9. One — U2--One of my faves of all time. I mean, U2 is an iconic band…and this song is one of their signatures. And David surely did this one justice…and then some. Transcending time and space…mind-blowingly good. Seriously, U2 should just retire this song after tonight! It’s David’s now!! WOOOT!

10. Gotta Be — Des’ree--So much fun, full of verve and power. I think people were shocked.

11. Love Song — Sara Bareilles--Just incomparable. Incredible. Just unbelievably good. He sang this as if HE had recorded it!! Another perfect cover.

12. I’m Yours — Jason Mraz--One of the best of the entire night. If you don’t “get” David after hearing this, you’ll never get him. This boy can sing ANYTHING!! Watch out world!

13. To Be With You--People were in tears. The violinist/keyboardist (Kendra?) was amazing. Her vocals complimented David very well. And David…he hit that …”way” note and held for what seemed like 5 minutes! The power and clarity made for a startling combination. Again, people looked stunned.

14. Don’t Let Go--David said he looooved this one becuz he “really gets into it” becuz he was “part of the creative process” on this one, haha! This song rocks live!! David was on fire…soul-stirring, blazing hot vocals….range galore on display!

15. Zero Gravity!!--HOLY FREAKIN NUTTERBUTTERS!!!!! David was soooo stoked to sing this becuz he said “no one had prolly ever heard it”…but surely we had!! Anyway, as this song came to a close, the theatre was deafeningly loud. And David looked like he was gonna pass out…he was soooo excited for us to hear it. He gave his usual “whew!”…and that “gosh/awww shucks” look!! CLASSIC! And the crowd reacted…HUGE! Oh, he also thanked Mike K. and talked about how this was “an experimental song…” Well, the experiment was a huuuuuuge success! I can just see this one tearin’ up the European charts! Very current. Very hip…suited him soooo well, I kid u not!!

16. You Can--Amazing, beautiful, stunning….need I say more? David’s vocals soared on this one.
17. Crush—U know the drill by now: Rock it out, Mr. Archuleta! He had sooo much fun here.
18. A Thousand Miles--SOLO--Again, stunning. Just David at the keyboard. Darkened stage. Alone. 6 feet in front of me!! HAHA! This was a masterclass.
19. Angels--SOLO--So very, very good. He was on top of his game. Flawless. Runs galore!! YEAH!
20. Running--HAHA…the band came back and surprised David with this one….he thought Angels was the last song….but Running was a fitting ending….David will be running to Richmond tomorrow (or tonight!?) for his 2nd solo show--EVER!!

Yeah, the venue was beeeeeeeutiful. The crowd was awesome. All ages, and not just girls! Haha! Virginia Beach rocked it out, baybee, and I’m soooo proud that we will always have a special place in his big, bursting heart as HIS FIRST!!!!!!!!!
