Along Comes David
“One day, we musicians will bring back real music.” So goes a quote by a little known, up and comer in the world of blue-eyed soul, and a controversial statement some might say. It of course implies that much of today’s music is not “real music.” While I am no expert on the current music scene, what little I do know leads me to believe that the implications are valid. We know that pop music artists today are referred to as “package artists.” They look good, move well, and create the desired image. The music often seems to play second fiddle to the importance of the overall entertainment value… to the show. I do believe this all started with MTV and has been opined by “real musicians” since its inception. Twenty-some-odd years later the real musical performer has a mountain to climb…instrumentalists have been replaced by recorded tracks, so much so that I believe some vocalists have never even sung with live musicians. The real vocalists must have an MTV vibe to be relevant. They are competing with the auto-tuned recording artist with the right act who is quite a showman but not much of a singer. They call it “being relevant,” they should call it “being commercial.”
And along comes David….. a rare musical genius who is at the same time a brilliantly, unequalled vocalist, an artist capable of touching the listener with his musical soul, and one hell of a live performer. His voice possesses a beautiful tone to it, soothing, deep, and intense. Like Rod Stewart, Robert Plant, Greg Allman, Van Morrison, Jimi Hendrix, and Sam Cooke to name a few (all pretty much rockers, I know, but brilliant vocalists, identifiable, relevant, and commercial in their time)…there is just something about his voice. It is my belief that David can lead the way, accompanied by some other very talented current musicians, in reintroducing to a musically starved generation what real music really sounds like. They don’t even know that they have been deprived and starved for years…but they are about to find out. What real music is.

happy! I am a lurker. But I make sure to come here first. I agree with everything you say about today’s music. I have to admit I’ve been watching AI this year. There is no one in David’s league or even close. I noticed Simon seems to really focus & comment on whether someone looks like they’ve got the whole commercial package or not.
David defies being categorized, except to say he can probably sing anything in any category of music. I feel blessed to be alive right now. To be able to watch David unfold like a beautiful blossom is a gift to us all.
I’m going to the Pomona show with some Golden Archies. Let me know if any of you will be there. Love to meet you all.
Oh yeah, just to let you all know, I don’t watch Leno or Letterman anymore because I just read the witty repartee here.
Thanks for posting!
annmargaret: So glad you came out of lurk mode. I went to Williamsville the other night and oh, my, I’m sure your Pomona trip will be fantastic. David seems to grow and change-up every performance. He’s amazing!
Watching David learn to fine tune his craft this past year has been mind blowing! He has taken to the stage and connected with the audience better than I could’ve ever anticipated!
I’m with annmargaret, this is a spectacular time to be alive and cruisin’ this tour with David! I’ll be at the Chicago concert this Sunday…I can’t wait!
This is why I’m thrilled that he has young kids, tweens and teens as a big portion of his fanbase. Get ‘em before they have a totally ruined sense of what a true vocalist is. The interesting subtlety and nuance of a vocal musician. Where you have to pay attention and be engaged and not hit over the head. You can’t miss what you don’t know. Now they’ll know. They will keep coming back for more. Because the status quo of today won’t measure up…once you know what you’re missing.
Oh look, new blog! Just jumped on here to post this, hope it’s not a duplicate, but it’s too cute!! A live David blog, backstage in Allentown.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fe5s_8lYyzE
I gain more respect for David every time he blogs. The way he gives kudos to whoever he’s sharing the stage with, it’s very refreshing. I’ll say it again…The young man’s got CLASS!

Ouch!
And right on.
I love this!
And can I say Holy (censored) Batman! Tonight’s ZG is unreal!
oh yeah, juliebug, you can say that and plenty MORE! That vid is INCREDIBLE, a great great performance and shot with a really good camera, apparently, did you watch it in HQ? Wowzah.
Juliebug, I thought I was going off to La la land…Then you send this! Ha! Ha! His energy is contagious! I may go paint the kitchen! Turning up the volume and dancing is not an option right now. Hubby and daughter are sleeping. Dang-it! I guess I’ll have to save my Archu-stomping for later in the day!
juliebug 3:06 -- Oh…my…heck…. Who is this kid?
=:O holy mother of… censored batman! lol… whoa! Juliebug you got THAT right!
PHEW! Happy, I’m so pooped I can’t say anything worthwhile about your GREAT post, except IT’S GREAT!
DAY-YUM… I am … getting DIZZY. *runs back to ZG vid*
highervibe -- HQ?
uh huh.

haha -- Gah! Love the latest ZG. So funny, his ear pods are flailing all over when he bounces. What IS IT about that song? I swear, I’m repeating each new tour stop version about 18 times a day, I can’t get enough of it. And with each repeat, I’m more baffled… whyyyyyyyyy isn’t it on the CD? I’m hopeful it may get released tho’, because when I pulled in the little snipet into iTunes (from the megaupload link in a previous post), all of the ID info appeared--including the album title (Deluxe Edition). It’s like they had it all ready to roll… then made a very bad decision to leave it off. Erck. OK, I’m going to pogo off to bed now! G’nite all.
juliebug -- “HQ?” -- are you asking? -- it’s “high quality”, the little red tv shape on the youtube control panel. If that option is there, image quality is much mo’ bettah. (And it is, on that ZG Columbus vid.)
happy,
Wonderful post and so true.
“And along comes David….. a rare musical genius who is at the same time a brilliantly, unequalled vocalist, an artist capable of touching the listener with his musical soul, and one hell of a live performer.”
I have waited for so long for someone like David to come along, knowing only that for years, I’ve repeated to myself like a mantra: I want a new music. Everything I heard on the radio was so much bland and packaged tripe. I began to get into jazz and bluegrass but it was not the “new music” I was seeking. Whatever made me think for years that just because I wanted it, it would appear, I don’t know, but I kept the faith. And then a year ago, along came David.
That said, this is as good a time as any to voice something that has been burdening me for days. I have been reluctant to comment on it for fear of being seen as critical. In truth, I am motivated by unqualified astonishment and admiration for the way this tour is displaying the unfolding artistry of David Archuleta. If it is much ado about nothing in the opinion of others, it is a nothing that has visited me with alternating sadness and even anger. I have to honor those feelings at last.
The early performances of Zero Gravity were nothing short of mind-blowing for me. Virginia Beach, Richmond, Sayreville, Lancaster..Sayreville. When I saw that video of the Sayreville Zero Gravity that accompanied this blog, what has troubled me for days hit me with renewed force. The other night after viewing the Williamsville video of Zero Gravity, I posted the short comment, “Well, I’ve still got Richmond and Sayreville. They can’t take that away from me.” Someone who read my comment thought I was disappointed in the plaid shirt. I actually like plaid on a guy. No, the reason I said what I did is because there was a focused intensity, energy and male power to the initial performances that is lacking in subsequent shows. Especially in Sayreville, I saw something emerge in David that I had never seen and it was absolutely thrilling to watch. He cavorted about the stage but it was when he held onto the mic, when he shimmied his shoulders and rocked out to the beat like his whole body was feeling that song and that feeling was fierce, that the fireworks happened. After the first four shows the shoulder shimmys stopped, the intense power and and focus became scattered across the stage in bounces that were further dispersed among the band and into the audience. It was fun, it was exciting to watch and be a part of, but it was not Sayreville. In that execution of Zero Gravity, David came close to accomplishing one of the most thrilling live performances on any stage by any singer ever. Watch him at 2.39 and 3.10. In the words of the poet, Theodore Roethke, he “wakes all the waves, all their loose wandering fire”. Something happened shortly after Sayreville to replace that magnificent, perfect storm with a different kind of energy. One that is perhaps, more palatable for all ages.
OK, forget everything I just said above. I just watched the Columbus performance of ZG and I’m still shaking!!!! The loose wandering fires of that perfect storm are back and them bounces are now sexaaay!!! I guess all my worry was for nothing and when am I gonna learn to TRUST THE ARCHULATOR? What I have been viewing as a retreat was just a learning curve taking place and man is that boy a quick study! What has got into him people? I can hardly type from watching that just once!!!
I shall not survive the Beaumont concert. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Make a Wish Foundation in David’s name.
ZG COLUMBUS — My goodness. Look at those strides! He is gaining more confidence show per show. WHAT WILL BECOME OF US COME UTAH CONCERT?
HAPPY -- I concur wholeheartedly with your post. We will all be proud dorks years from now, when everybody else will have discovered the magic of David. What a grand time to be an angel now… the rawness, tentativeness and the organic feel of it all.
Thank you David for the joy you bring. Thanks jD for putting forth that joy into marvelous and stratified perspective.
lmao. oh angelica, I am in a weakened and vulnerable state. Laughing hurts in my condition. :::limply typing::: loose wandering fires ftw!
*clawing way back to ZG Columbus*
(please lord, let me go to bed…)
(oh definitely proud dorks ftw)
Good morning everyone. Here in Sydney, it is now 8:58 pm, just finished dinner.
Now that ZG in Columbus Concert……are we seeing a RAWK Star ( Mike’s way of sayin rock).
Really our David is unique. He can be a pop star if singing a pop song (CRUSH), he can be a balladeer if singing a slow love song (SOT, TBWY) or a rock star if singing a rock song/ neotechno song (ZG)…
He can sing a cappella , with simple accompaniment or with a full band and the result: 100% PURE JUST DAVID. Transporting us to what place he wants us to be…..He leads , we follow.. He told us to jump ( see the jumping beans all over the place ) , he points the mike to the audience, what do they do….. sing with him….when he laughs, everyone laugh…. You know what, I think if he tells the audience, just listen while he sing SOT, TBWY, You can , and angels, I bet we will have a mute audience….. Then probably us here watching youtube , will enjoy the bliss: the Voice. I can only dream.
In every concert, he offers something different and each of us has a different response to each of these stimuli.
If you ask me, I am enjoying this ride…..Hoping that I will experience what you guys have been experiencing for the last week.
On another matter, hello Ms JR. Are we in for a long night? waiting for videos… I don’t mind.. As for your question from previous post, my bday is December 1960, just turned 48 last December with two children, both boys (my youngest is seven years old and the other one is almost 14 years old). Now tell me about yourself too..
xoxoxo from Sydney
David Unleashed!! That’s what I’ve always wanted, and he’s absolutely on the verge of really letting loose on ZG -- Columbus version (thanks for the vid, beebee).
I want the ZG music video pronto. (We could do a series on the best music video concept -- hee.)
Sorry, Happy, I know many want to blame MTV for the decline of “real musicians” -- and being that I’m very much part of the MTV generation, I’m not sure I’m ready to vilify MTV just yet. The first music video I ever saw was Michael Jackson’s “Billie Jean” when I was 10, and that just blew me away!! I’m not one to lament a loss of “real music” due to MTV emphasizing music as visual spectacle, because in my growing up, I’ve always enjoyed what its intent was: to advertise a music artist or band. And the more creative they were with the video, the more you could detect a unique identity for said artist.
Not only that, but in my historical research, I’ve discovered that music videos date back to the beginning of cinema (when cinema started using sound), and these “soundies” (1930s description of the music video) are awesome! For example, Duke Ellington’s “Symphony in Black” music video is just as stunning in telling a story about a culture as the music itself.
For me, the problem with the decline of “real music” has been the corporatization of music, more than the avenues in which we have received the music.
I mean, if “Video killed the Radio Star,” then surely YouTube is slaying MTV right now, but we’re all getting our music, aren’t we? It’s more which music gets to be mainstreamed (or corporate) and which we have to hunt down.
Just about all of us here have been introduced to David Archuleta first as “music spectacle” -- being a contestant on a reality TV show. And despite that, we all were able to identify a “real musician,” despite the spectacle in which he appeared. All of our handwringing has been in fearing whether or not a corporate music structure, which privileges autotuned voices and recorded vs. live music, would allow him to thrive.
What is exciting about watching David’s growth -- via digital recordings for those of us who can’t attend a live show -- is seeing David in such an organic environment: far away from American Idol’s fabricated televised stage and from Jive’s generic studio. David’s realness can no longer be denied (even non-fans and previous David haters are now acknowledging that he’s the real deal).
For me, what is stunning is seeing an 18 year old who grew up in an overly saturated information society and in a generation that thinks nothing of stealing music downloads, rather than pay for the CD (let alone a vinyl record) able to find his own style so young! For any young person to be able to do that is a revelation.
So, I especially agree with your last point, Happy: “It is my belief that David can lead the way, accompanied by some other very talented current musicians, in reintroducing to a musically starved generation what real music really sounds like.”
And along comes David just at the right time!
Good morning, everyone.
Had just fallen asleep at the computer trying to organize & clear out some stuff. Then I checked in at jD & ZG!!!!!..!!!! Now I’m WIDE awake. Hmmmm, he’s truly amazing. Do you think these moves (2:15-2:35) are choreographed or just in the moment? Now that’s entertainment.
Fandaforever, definitely “in the moment” moves.
beebee339 -- don’t know about anyone else but your positive energy/humor (is there a word for this?) is such a lift. There have been many a day/nite when your posts have totally reversed a down in the dumps mood. Thanks for that.
HG633 been trying to catch up with you. Was wondering what your take was on the Sayerville DLG & Northampton Barriers (my all time fav since 11/11). Both are moving performances for me -- Sayerville DLG is the most emotionally moving performance I’ve ever seen. I was totally captivated………… Didn’t need much to throw me over the edge with Barriers but the Northampton was another performance that grabbed me & I can’t let go.
Fandaforever, honestly, if I had to pick a video that’s my favorite on the tour so far (apart from any number of the ZG vids), I’m picking his Waiting for Yesterday performance at Richmond. That one I can’t keep my eyes off of him, and it’s just soooo smooth and soooo sexy -- the song, the black shirt he’s wearing, just …. *shivers*
I like the “Barriers” performances too, but to me, they don’t hold a candle to my favorite.
I’m also captivated by the Sayerville DLG (my least favorite song) but I find his “zoning out” moment mind blowing.
HG -- both of those were recorded by djbell13. The best vids of the tour.
That’s right. Djbell13 is all kinds of awesome!
HG -- agree DLG was a non play for me before tour & that one is captivating cuz of mind blowing “zoning out”. Almost looked intoxicated (drunken in emotion) or like he was going to pass out during the last minute. When he comes out of it at the end he almost appears a bit embarrassed & his lil boy voice when he first speaks. Wonder what Paula Abdul would think of that one?
Paula would’ve been slain! And I’m sure, right now, the judges are missing the Davids from last season.
It never ceases to amaze me how completely transformed David is when he sings. He just transports to a whole other zone, and I’m like, “Take me with you! Take me with you!”

This will be a twin post so please bear with me, but I think this is something REALLY important for David’s album & career:
FIRST: This is a re-post from FOD. For those not inclined on votings, calling in, etc… please re-think, ok?
Lisa (soundscene from IDF) has something to say, so listen up! Please?
… If you want to do something really great for ALTNOY on the radio, you should call and vote for the song on XM 20 on 20. ALTNOY was on XM’s playlist from the beginning of its run, but it didn’t get enough votes and so was dropped from their online voting form. They continued playing the song after that, but apparently they stopped playing it as of yesterday. Obviously, we’re not voting enough for ALTNOY.
XM 20 on 20 is VERY important. It reaches a national audience. Because XM is not playing it as of yesterday, ALTNOY will lose 25 spins this week. Those extra spins could mean the difference between going top 40 and staying below 40. ALTNOY won’t be re-added to their playlist unless we vote for it.
It’s really easy to vote. Just call 866-553-2020. Most of the time you’ll get a pre-recorded message. To skip it, press “1″ and record your vote for “A Little Too Not Over You” by David Archuleta. Press the “#” key at the end of your message.
Occasionally, you’ll get a live DJ. If you can’t get through, wait a little while and try again. You can vote as much as you want (every 5 minutes by the web voting form, so I’m assuming its the same for phone votes). The call is FREE inside the United States. You don’t need to subscribe to XM to vote!
SECOND: An update on the critical issue at 8:14am, a re-post from Snarkies this time:
Evening Everyone! I have a fabulous story to share with all of you! Let me begin by saying I LOVE XM20!!!
About 6:30pm (7:30 for most of you) I was driving my son to baseball practice and heard this: “So and So is on the air and wants to know what they need to do to get David Archuleta on the list. This is what you need to do! You need to call in and request AND you need to join the Whatcha Want Club and gives us your feedback AND maybe add some information about ZERO GRAVITY that I’ve heard so much about and was left off his album!” Girl says: “Have you heard it” DJ: “No” She tells him it is fabulous and he should Youtube it. DJ ” I will!”
I started screaming and my son covers his ears and stares at me like I’m nuts. I call Becky freaking out. SHE ANSWERS! I tell her the entire story and she tells everyone within hearing what I told her!
Then I call XM (keep in mind I NEVER get a DJ, just the recording) Not this time. The wonderul DJ answers.
ME: Thank you so much for what you just said about David Archuleta!
DJ: You are so Welcome!
ME: How do you know about Zero Gravity?
DJ: From all the fans that call in and tell me all the David news! I hear it’s a great song!
ME: Yes it is! You really need to hear it! So, is it close to being put back on the list?
DJ: Yes, because we have really been getting alot of requestst for it.
ME: How often do you mind us calling in?
DJ: Just as much as you can.
ME: Well, like every hour or so?
DJ: We know you do that, so just be smart about it.
ME: Well we don’t want to be a nusance or do anything to hurt David.
DJ: No, David’s fans are the best, most consistent, loya fans of any Artist we play!
ME: THANK YOU SO MUCH!
The message from Snarkies: “We have the power to get ALTNOY back on the XM20 on 20 web page, and apparently the DJs really like us Archie types. … call XM 20 on 20 and let your request be heard. Dial 1-866-553-2020. If you get the recorded message, just press 1 and leave your request. If you get a live DJ, tell them how much you love ALTNOY and that you love hearing it on XM radio. Don’t be a pest, of course, but a few (like 3 or 4 times per day?) would really help…”
And since we cannot get enough of… another ZERO GRAVITY -- closer
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ila-GjzyXbo
OMG…the closer video at 2:50…the growl made an appearance! You know he is feeling good when you hear the growl. Now it is time for the hunkerdowns to reappear…my life will be complete bahahahahaha!!!
Hi All. Great post Happy!
I went to the concert last night in Columbus. Needless to say I am in an Archustupor right now, but I will try to articulate what I experienced. I am two and half hours away from the venue, and with all my work and family responsibilities, I didn’t think I could drop everything and go, so I was content to live vicariously through some of you . But after reading all the reviews here, especially Josie’s, youtube is just not enough anymore. So two days before the concert, I searched the internet and found a ticket, had it overnighted to me and announced to my family I was going to a concert out of town. Yesterday, I drove two and half hours, waited in line outside the venue for more than two hours, and then stood on my feet in the most uncomfortable and unnatural position for two more hours in a pit where everyone was surrounded by body parts from everyone else. I was in excruciating pain – my feet were sore and everything in my body was aching.
THEN The FACE with a smile brighter than the sun all of sudden materialized on the stage, and boom, all my pain disappeared ! And this is even before he sang a single note!! The next hour and twenty minutes was nirvana. I was reduced to a big grin, no longer feeling the weight of my body. Zero gravity it is!
David is a fantastic recording artist, but he is a consummate performer. His singing is not just to be listened to, it has to be WATCHED. He sings not just with his voice, but with his face, his hands, his shoulder, his legs, even his knees! Every cell in his body is singing!! The transformation from the AI tour to the tour now is astounding. His youthful exuberance emanates from every part of his body and you can’t help but celebrate it with him. His stage persona is very masculine, with a lethal touch of vulnerability and tenderness.
The crowd was in love with him – every move, every look, every hand pointing triggered deafening screams. I know we would not only gladly listen to him singing the phonebook, heck, we would watch him TYPE the darn phone book.
Just David, or a human wonder?
(Sorry for my post-David-Archuleta-concert rambling. Now I need to go relive Zero Gravity in all its Archuglory!)
Joner and I both want to go to sleep, and wake up and have it be Saturday morning, when we are both traveling to downtown Chicago. I am thankful that the venue is a train ride away for me. I cannot wait to see the concert on Sunday. I can’t wait to hear ZG in person! Also can’t wait to see the venue. It is a classy and well-regarded Chicago venue.
Hope to see some of you there!

yjfanofdavid — best line from your post: “THEN The FACE with a smile brighter than the sun all of sudden materialized on the stage, and boom, all my pain disappeared ! And this is even before he sang a single note!!”
Ok those are 2 lines but heck.. your post is so infectious, everyone’s onsite stories! I cannot wait to see him live after reading all of your accounts…. April seems like a century aawwwwwwwwwwaaaayyyyyyyyyyyyyy.
And you even contemplated not seeing him live? Que horror! Good thing you snapped out of it and took the path to nirvana LOL
Listen people: anyone here who has a chance in the succeeding shows, please goooooooooooooooooooooo! Don’t miss the opportunity. Cos for us who still cannot see him live, that’s like… all sorts of wrong -- you know what I mean?
yjfanofdavid 914
Nice to have you here. Great review, one of the best I have read. May I ask are you a former lurker?
post more often, you have a great sense of David!
Abrra
happy -- great article. Real music, yeah! Music that connects on a deep level, rather than simply blasting you with sensory overload. I think about David performing at MSG in between acts that had shooting flames and full-out dance numbers. And he held his own in the middle of this circus, dang it! He IS the real deal.
I posted something myself on ZG
http://alwaysarchuleta.blogspot.com/2009/03/zero-gravity-at-columbus.html
yjfanofdavid 9:14 What a beautiful post!! You really brightened my day. Just goes to show ya -- “the things we do for David” ends up bringing such joy and excitment into our lives, and gives us memories to last -- well, to last until the next concert -- for surely I know there is no putting the brakes on -- nothing to stop us from being a fan of David!! I, too, am hooked forever! Thanks for sharing your experience.
You know, I sorta like the lighting of this Columbus venue… shows the shadows and contours of his face rather nicely. And am liking how the shirt is hugging/draping his body… reaaally nice
Match that with his signature growl, killer eyeball and unscripted little moves -- HAWT night at Archutopia
I remember sitting in my living room watching David on STAR SEARCH way back when…I am just soooo PROUD of him and how far he’s coming and where he is going. I love him so much…that video I just watched of I’M YOURS is just so great how it shows him on that stage loving what he’s doing and born to do it. David needs no gimmicks, no dancers -- just him on that stage pouring his heart and soul out -- SINGING MAGNIFICENTLY -- and entertaining us -- he is just having the time of his life and oh how it shows!!
ZERO GRAVITY love the move he does at 2:15 and the ending with his hands so into the song -- like someone above said -- every finger is singing!!
Still love Sayerville’s DLG too!! Also, Richmond’s DLG is to die for. It’s hard to work with all this going on…but just wanted to chime in here a minute….absolute LOVE DAVID -- ADMIRE HIM -- AM IN AWE OF HIS TALENT -- BEST PERFORMER I’VE EVER SEEN!!
yjfanofdavid,
Thanks for that great report of your concert experience. You were feeling no pain when you saw and heard him cause he is like a drug! I’m still buzzing from watching that youtube ZG. I love what you said here:
“His singing is not just to be listened to, it has to be WATCHED. He sings not just with his voice, but with his face, his hands, his shoulder, his legs, even his knees! Every cell in his body is singing!! The transformation from the AI tour to the tour now is astounding. His youthful exuberance emanates from every part of his body and you can’t help but celebrate it with him. His stage persona is very masculine, with a lethal touch of vulnerability and tenderness.”
That last line is suweeeet.
So I’ve watched it several more times this morning and now I am so high I may never come down to gravity again. What just happened last night? He was on fiyaahh!! All the foot work, the wide leg stance, the lightening fast moves!! I quoted Theodore Roethke last night to describe something being released in David in the Zero Gravity performances as “loose wandering fire”. I left out the preceding line, but after last night’s performance it needs to be included. David has finally begun to own David Archuleta.
“A man faced with his own immensity
Wakes all the waves, all their loose wandering fire.
YJFANOFDAVID -- loved your post and agree totally!
David just sings with such passion -- every ounce of his body is into the song -- every video just keeps getting better and better….so exciting to WATCH HIM!!
Columbus ZG
All I have to say is that I freaking knew there was a choreographer hidden in there.
I mean that in the best sense of the word — not to suggest in any way that the moves were contrived, quite the contrary. Great choreographers are able to codify what Angelica has so beautifully and vividly described. I submit that this is what happened between Sayreville and Columbus. Sayreville was the spark, the feeling, the inspiration, the genesis of the body in the song. We saw it happen, utterly organically. As always, it then becomes a breakdown, a further set of experiments, an effort to both maintain the inspirational connection and retain the expression of the first spark, as you try to capture and codify it all into something of a consistent performance.
Witness Columbus. A new level. A polish and a professionalism that relinquishes nothing from the initial spark but rather intensifies it, dramatizes it, sears it indelibly into a performance pantheon of the Rock Gods.
Judas Priest, does this kid’s talent have no end?
Just saw several of the Columbus vids. How on earth does he keep ratcheting up another notch? My expectations are already high, simply because of what I’ve already witnessed. But this.
He’s kind of blowin’ my hair back.
CHENSON -- that’s the 64M$ (well with inflation that should be adjusted already!) question. To borrow one of Simon’s famous reactions — “WHAT WERE YOU THINKIN’?! JIVE!?
You are right: it took David one year to regaining the joy of his Shop Around performance. One year to metamorphose into this electrifying live performer.
Wow
we may soon run out of adjectives to appropriately capture the magic that David brings LOL
aaawwh…this is so cute -- DAVID TALKING TO THE CROWD IN OHIO…..
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-z8SAi51dSE
It just feels so good to watch and listen to him.
Rascal -- did you ever finish that book “This is your brain on music”? I remember you mentioning it a long time ago. Maybe you have more insight on what is happening to us!
Chenson, one more thing — David is a runner and does not smoke, remember? So his chest can take the beating of jumping while singing. Like, one of things our gym trainer has observed about me (though am no way great at singing) is how I can sing while doing the treadmill or elliptical. LOL

Happy, great post. “Real music” is right. In fact, “real” sums up David’s artistry, doesn’t it? No artifice no barriers between his voice and our hearts.
Re who to blame for all the “unreal” music, IMO, Madonna. As powerful as she is, to me her strength was always how brilliantly she marketed herself as a performer (one with a very average voice/musical talent). (Tomatoes expected!) From then on, marketing and “packaging” seemed to become what pop music was all about.
Angelica, your two posts, ROTFL! You’re quite right, though, the tiger of Sayerville was tamed temporarily … but now? Prepare for full-on fierce!!
Betsy “He’s kind of blowin’ my hair back.” hahaha… too right!!
Oops, “gooddeedaday” is actually me … wrong login *blushes*
Off to watch/bounce to ZG!!!
Angelica, You will NOT survive the Beaumont concert – not if he sings ZG. Like you I am obsessed with ZG since Virginia Beach. I have watched every performance since then ad nauseam and analyzed every nuance of his every body movement (leg stance, shoulder shimmies, bounces and jumps) Can you imagine me witnessing ZG last night with that song oozing from every part of his body not too far away from me? Rascal, when I saw it in the context of the entire concert, I really didn’t get a sense that it was pre- choreographed, anymore so than other songs. It just felt so spontaneous — he moved his body however way the music took him at the particular moments, and that’s why it was so stunning to behold. We will find out if he performs it the same way the next few nights.
Angelica, you are right. My pain disappeared because David is like a drug. I really believe his singing (and his “being”) triggers serotonin and/or dopamine in our brain (at least for some of us) and that explains our addiction – we want more and more.
Now that I have seen him live in all its wonders, listening to him on my ipod from now on would be like watching a movie blind-folded – if that analogy makes sense. I have read reviews about his album that say most of the songs sound alike. What’s amazing about his live performance is with each song he takes us on a different journey, interpreting it with not just his voice but his facial expression and his body. A journey from which you do not want to return! (And sometimes he goes there himself in the most mysterious way, like the Sayreville Don’t Let Go when he hung his head over the mike for a few seconds and then when he came back he added the line “I know how to save a life.” — Angelica, like you I am obsessed with that moment as well…)
I just watched the ZG video from Columbus. Is he kidding, or what? David is starting to “let er rip.” This performance is, by far, the best he’s done, and the song itself is pop music royalty. Get this thing thing on the radio!
Hey Bliss!!!
I can’t get enough -- it is soooooooooo hard to work today!! Sneeking in videos left and right.
Just watched BARRIERS -- Oh MY!
Nope gooddeedaday no tomatoes on the Madonna remark. I dunno if you saw this one interview of David. He also commented, very diplomatically of course, on Madonna’s voice by highlighting her other talents
So you are in great company, eh?
RASCAL -- surely, never contrived — all coming from within, like how do they say it — following the beat of his own drum? Besides, his moves do not conform to any recognizable choreography which makes it the more all refreshing and entertaining.
I also think the band is making a BIG difference in David’s current state of affairs. The familial sense must be reassuring and empowering for him. Much easier to be justDavid among friends and family. As`always, love your comment Rascal!
TOfan- Madonna launched her career in 1983… MTV in 1981…a marriage made in heaven.
HG- like I said I am no expert… a close friend of mine is. A lifetime jazz musician and an expert in the evolution of American music he continues to play for respected artists like Aretha Franklin, Tony Bennett, Frankie Valle and others. He teaches courses in the history of rock and roll and jazz at a college in Manhattan and I respect his opinion. While I have not attended his classes per se I have attended free seminars over dinner….. I will offer to you …real musicians and historians will go to their grave citing MTV and its presentation of music as a revolution in American musical culture. Like all revolutions it was a complicated shift possessing many elements and can finally be reduced to money… not art. Revolutions seldom start over art. Technology and its role in music over the last 15 years is also cited as a major contributor to the current state of affairs for a variety of reasons. And youtube is a relatively new phenomenon that is expected to help bring back grass roots music. Case in point- ZG…where would we be today if we had to rely on MTV and its ilk to expose us to ZG?… yes the times they are a changin’… and along comes David.
Abrra, To answer your question, I was a lurker at nD and followed you guys to just David. It is very comforting to come here to find highly intelligent, rational and sensible people similarly obsessing over a 17/18 year old, not just over his craft but his various attributes. lol. I have self-diagnosed my ODD — It’s not quite at Level Silverfox, but close to what Angelica has. haha. (Back to lurking.)
Happy, great post. Now this is a subject I can sink my teeth into. Like so many other “Boomers” who literally grew up during the early days of Rock n Roll, I have watched, in abject horror, the decline and dismantling of the great pop and rock music of the mid 50s- mid 80s. We were spoiled by having, at our fingertips, the greatest singers and performers of all time. All we had to do was put on any one of countless AM or, later, FM stations to be treated to the “Top 40″ of that week. If we wanted to see a live performance, we could watch Ed Sullivan, Steve Allen, Mike Douglas, Merv Griffin, and one of our favorites would appear. How about “Hullabaloo” or “Shindig?” The songs were great, and the artists didn’t have to have a particular look or personality. All that counted was the quality of the song.
Thanks to MTV, all that ended in the 80s. The song became seconadary to the “video-ability” of the artist (?) As long as it “looked” good, who cared what they were singing. This brought about the horrific genres of “music” called “rap” and “hip hop” or whatever else they wanted to call it. The superstars were no longer Sam Cooke and Dusty Springfield. They were M&M and “Notorious B.I.G. Oy!!
“Along Comes David” to save the day, and it could not have come at a better time. David can sing, can perform (boy, can he perform), looks great, and is uber popular. It’s time to turn the page and return to the great music of the past, bring it into the current day, and put the Dark Ages of music to rest.
Thank You David. You are the Messiah of popular music. I’m sure I’ll have more to say on this, because this is what I really love about David.
Angelica -- your 420 post has me howling.
He has rendered me speechless, again. Can only echo this,
“Judas Priest, does this kid’s talent have no end?”

Yo Chenson.. last night I’m watching Idol’s wild card selections and all I could think about was Shop Around and how entirely brilliant it was. This morning I see the Columbus ZG and my already blown mind was boggled. I was there at Sayreville and Northampton and foolishly thought” well this can’t possibly get better” and I am so so wrong. The flare of this rocket just keeps on climbing.

Glad to have you here. We all started as lurkers.
general blah blah:
Since Imagine aired on AI, I have been trying to explain why I care about and enjoy David’s music. One friend /employer( same age as me ) has been particularly standoffish. I have stopped trying to show her if she doesn’t get it on her own, its her loss. I seldom bring him up in her presence. *Pearls before Swine* ? His Cd came into the disscussion last week. She said she will listen to it “in her car” , can’t listen to it in the house(her issue). I left it on her desk last Monday. She writes to me that she has listened to the first 3 songs and went back to the radio, but will revisit the remaining tracks over the next week. Her review based on 3 songs? Very “Mariah Carey” sounding. I am really irritated by that. I told her it’s Jive’s idea to heavily track the music and background vocals, alas I think I may just give up. She just doesn’t get it.
/rant off
{{{{{{{{{HUG}}}}}}]} jD family who do get it.
Abrra
Oh, my jumping heart. What are we going to do if this keeps getting better and better? And did we not think there was an inner dancer just waiting to come out of the shadows and give in to all the physicality shown in this performance? If people see him and the buzz continues, his next tour will be in stadiums. He can rock it out, sing a ballad to break your heart, out sing U2, out rhythm Jason Mraz, and who knows, he may break out in a rap song that would make us forget about Notorious B.I.G. LOL!
Abrra: I had a discussion with a new client (IT) the other day about music. I found out he does production work in his home and is trying to grow his business locally. I told him about the concert in Willimsville and (casually) told him he should check out David. He mentioned how all the new pop singers are over-produced, use auto-tuner, etc.
I almost let it go, but I decided to send him some links. I sent “I’ll Be” a capella from the Hard Rock, Zero Gravity from Richmond, and Angels mix from Tulsa. This is what he sent back: “This young man is going to go a long way in the music industry! Incredible talent! I’m certainly impressed.” And now he’s sending me links. One fan at a time.
For those who downloaded the 030509 WNCI interview (about 8.5 minutes), I now have the complete interview that runs for about 23 minutes
http://www.sendspace.com/file/90iv56
Going out to fetch my son from his work. Hopefully there will be more videos when I get back.
SOT is again a knock out. That VOICE gets me all the time!
ABRRA -- watch SOT for the much needed comfort {{{hugs}}}. But you know, you could burn her a CD of David’s latest performances. If the live ZG and TBWY don’t get her, then nothing will!
Keep on bouncing guys
SOT is pretty stunning, he’s in great voice. I wish they’d take it just a teensy tiny bit slower.
marlie7 March 6, 2009 at 12:35 pm & jackryan4da March 6, 2009 at 12:38 pm
After the Cd discussion I did send her ZG from Richmond (youtube) but she couldn’t play it on her PC. I called her and had her paste the url and it still didn’t work. She needs to update her browser to IE7. She is new to the net and is very resistant to change. I can’t help her if she says no thank you.. I did make her a CD and put the bonus tracks on it as well. She will hear them as I warned her some songs were not listed and she will need to listen to all tracks. Ah well.
I am just a tad frustrated that she is so resistant when in all other things in life she calls me ( her words)her Guru. I don’t believe that anymore. Either you have trust in someone or you don’t.
Abrra
IN HEAVEN!!!! Not only from Happy’s post, which is great, but in the last 1-1/2 hrs. my radio station has played both ALTNOY and Crush!! They “have got” David!
The vids of Columbus are lookin’ good. ZG just makes my heart stop as he works the stage. He is soooo good even ZG can bring me to tears!. I’m almost to the point of counting my sleeps until Utah. Can’t start yet, or it will never come (you know the quote, “a watch pot never boils”).
IMO maybe ZG was held off the album because it is in a different realm than the other songs. I just kind of feel it is going to do better being released as a single after the tour and then put on his next album. It is so much more intense and has a different vibe. Just sayin’.
I have noticed people, especially on YouTube, referring to “Angels” and SOT as tearjerkers. That bothers me a little, because to me that term suggests something like Tammy Wynette’s “D-I-V-O-R-C-E” or the Everly Brothers’ “Ebony Eyes.” I don’t see “Angels” and SOT as tearjerkers, but as songs that are beautiful and uplifting in a way that could sometimes lead to tears.
I guess I may have too much of a tendency to get hung up on words. No matter how much the media now use “impact” as a verb, I will continue to cringe. And I won’t even get started about that eloquent verb s**k.
JR -- There is still more to that interview, but no one got it recorded. Our only hope is if WNCI puts the whole thing up. But thanks for getting all of what FOD had. yay!
tawna21: You might be right. Maybe the next album will be the one that is more “David”. I liked the first one, but I do not think it plays up who he is and his talent as much as it could have. And I’ve heard a lot of people say that all the songs sound the same on their first listen -- someone said how seeing David in person changes that -- so true.
Oh look!
http://daveandjimmy.com/pages/videos.html
haha!
OMG. The guy who I sent the video links to….I sent him the Zero Gravity link from Columbus and this is his reply. He could have been reading this blog!
“Fabulous group of musicians and performers. This guy is no doubt got the goods….
This is what we need more of….pure talent, matched with a passion to perform!!!!”
olemr2001, 1:05, I’d have to add Save the Day to that list. I haven’t been able to listen even once with dry eyes. And you’re right, “tear jerker” is so wrong. There’s nothing maudlin or manipulative about David’s songs. It’s the pure love and hope in his voice that pierces my heart.
Save the Day:

Here’s a media mix of ZG from Columbus — best audio / best video… well, widest shot, anyway

If David had performed ZG at the Grammys, it would have been like MIchael Jackson doing his famous Moonwalk, and would officially launch a new era in music.
marlie7, well done! Archulizing the universe one fan at a time!
juliebug 1:12, bahahaha, thanks!
TOfan 1:28
Thanks for mentioning “Save the Day,” which certainly belongs in that same category. I love it, too.
Happy, loved your post!! When my sis & I went to the Houston Jingle Jam, I thought David was “holding back” compared to the Sac Jam. From the looks of it, he’s been holding back a whole lot! Anyway, Gavin DeGraw comes out and just simply blows me away! and I’m thinking to myself..that’s what I WANT to see David do! Just LET GO! Get the crowd into HIS music. Take us where he goes! Gavin is a great stage performer. I pictured David doing what Gavin was doing. I KNEW he had it in him, but I worried he would be held back. Worried for nothin’ AGAIN! Cuz as much as I loved Gavin’s performance, David is, “by a comfortable mile” way ahead, after only 7 months of performing in a concert setting.
David has gone to many, many concerts since the end of the AI tour, to get “ideas & see how other artists perform”. All I can say is I am sooooo glad he chose to do his “own thang”! David is definitely in a league of his own. His dancing, his banter with the crowd, all unscripted, no choreography. He doesn’t need it. He simply reacts to his audiences’ reactions to him, and they are loving him, so he’s loving them back, the only and very best way he can. I can’t even begin to compare David with anyone, dead or alive anymore..he has raised the bar. He is the one and only, THE VOICE.
I can’t get enough of David Archuleta. I think we all have been on a “high” since David came into our lives. He just gave us a name and a song to go with that high..Zero Gravity.
I’ve received some emails from several women who have attended David’s concerts, asking me why they are feeling the way they do now. Euphoria one minute, profound sadness the next, thinking of David almost constantly. And what can they do about it, how do they get over it? I tell them there’s no getting over it so just embrace it, be happy you were able to see David in all his magnificent glory, it will get better. I tell them they are just coming down from being in David’s gravity. What’s left is sweet memories forever. It’s called Love in the purest form!
Oh and one more thing, notice how we don’t even care anymore about what David is wearing??
It’s all about the performance and The Voice!!
silverfox! hi! I always read what you have to say. I think one reason I relate to you is because we’re both “Leopards”. Yes, David has grabbed my heart & I haven’t been the same for over a year now. When I was young I loved the Beatles & saw them at Hollywood Bowl. They were great but……David just defies description. I feel like a kid again in some ways. My husband alternately teases me that I’m acting like a school girl or that he’s “worried” about me. This David thing is just too much! When are you going to come out of it? Well, I hope never.
SF you have made me laugh lots of times & I want to thank you for it.
If you are going to Pomona 3/17, I hope we’ll meet!
Good morning everyone, it is now 6:23 am here in Sydney, Saturday
My goodness gracious, what is happening with our boy, has he eaten a pocketful of jumping beans or happy potion? Only eight days of practice…..what will we expect in UTAH after 20 days of practice ….cannot imagine
Luv all the comments chenson, wish I can go to UK, I have a sister there, maybe I can visit her. But first I will try to see if I can do Philippines first. Ms JR are you really going to attend DA’s concert in the Phils ( no more meeting)? Good on you as David will say AWESOME!!
AS for me through the power of youtube, I was lucky to attend all the eight concerts up front and centre: Virginia Beach, Richmond, Sayreville, Lancaster, Allentown, Norhampton, Clarence and now last night’s concert Columbus. Of course the experience is not the same as you know but it is better than nothing. THESE CONCERTS THROUGH THE EYES OF OUR VIDEOGRAPHERS AND PHOTOGRAPHERS AND BLOGGERS ( THANK YOU ALL GUYS)HAVE BEEN UNBELIEVABLE!!!!!! I am not good with words, all I know is that love is everywhere in our own Archuland.. I know it will spread all over the world. One fan at a time, slowly but surely , They have to learn the archu lingo…learn to do the archubump , shimmering (is that correct)
My favourite was ZG, then barrier, then my hands then DLG then tbwy then angels then crush then altnoy then tmy then sot then yc then tm then medley then wfy then wfm . I also luv running and yedl (although sang only once). Those were my favourite last Tuesday. Now Wednesday , it was ZG then My hands then barrier then sot. then angels…..will I just go on….
Sorry about my rambling, not enough cocaine this morning yet ( just need to watch ZG again)
Just uploading ZG Columbus ( just six minutes to go). I will upload two versions, the first one was the FOD videos ( full body). The next one thanks JR, the video by emilyluvarchie , you will see his facial expression.
Will just have my breakfast now ( my daily dose of Vitamin D)
While waiting for the upload , if people missed this ,a video docu of Virginia beach through the eyes of Farrah , Mike’s little girl ( of course mommy and daddy helped a bit)

annmargaret..Hi, yourself! hmmmm? that name sounds familiar!
David has been a joy in my life. It defies explanation, why he affects so many of all ages, genders, races, economic status. I’ve tried to figure it out til I’m blue in the face. It’s a mystery. So I’m just going along with the flow. David is my musical master, my pied piper. He is magic!
No, I’m not going to the Pomona concert..but I would if I could!
I’ll be going to Alb NM, Reno & Utah. Looking back on it, I should have made plans for Phoenix and Pomona. I’ll be in Albuquerque the few days before my sis & I leave for Reno, then I come home for a week, then fly to see David in Utah for the weekend and the FINALE! Should be great!
vee60, thanks for the links. I’m loving the Columbus ZG but can’t wait for someone to upload My Hands too. Watching the performance of that song develop over 4 shows was amazing to witness in person. I already loved the new arrangement, but the way David improvises the vocals, jams with the band and interacts with the crowd a little more each show is thrilling to watch.
SF, loved your post (as usual), and you’re so right about going with the flow, or as David says:
Not gonna analyze or try to fight it
Don’t even care if it makes no sense at all
‘Cause with you I can flyyyyyyy
rascal, you are a bit naughty. I should have known. I should have waited. now I have to upload ZG again with your version. Too good to miss. Well , uploading emily’s version now ( my small computer is too slow, another 30 minutes to go).
I am now watching Barrier at 3:10….. IT FEELS SO GOOOOOOOOD…
Really I am feeling so wonderful now…. I just can’t stop watching
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=unyfXlPWayA
Tofan which version of my HANDS (one of my favourite) would you like me to upload? This is one of the songs that I have a complete download aside from Barrier and ZG and angels of course. I DO REALLY REALLY LOVE THIS SONG especially the acapella at the end . Really I luv the VA one because that was where I first started to appreciate the beauty of this song. Sayreville and Northampton ones are also good videos (thanks to DJ’s videos).
You’re right rascal, some choreography is happening. This is fabulous; natural talent honed and confidence built.
So, when do you think he will say to himself, “Dang, I am good” or are the sold out shows and screaming, adoring, singing fans still an anomaly?
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=CXFF239O
ZG of Columbus (thanks to emilyluvarchie) up front and centre, enjoy
WARNING……..TO DIE FOR
Because I do have the download of his from different concerts and do they have the same music timing you can really synchronise each video.
Tofan I will upload Northampton for you… he looks so happy and luv the audience participation. Clarence is also good but the music is too irritating ( bass???) until then acapella part.
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=L6O9I2N6
Tofan here is the Lancaster concert of my hands. But I think Northampton one is better…
Yeah, rascal, “Rock Gods!” Is it not enough that I have this song as a CONSTANT background in my mind, going to bed, waking up, any quiet moment of reflection -- there it is.
Now there are the MOVES. Ohmigosh. 2:16 just knocks me out, the full body turnaway. It is just too much!
jyfanofdavid -- “Every cell in his body is singing!!” So that’s what’s causing all this dancing haha!
All right, Bliss, as a member of both the MTV and “hip hop” generation, I’m going to take you to task for your arguments @12:13. But, first I’ve got some catching up to do.
Later!
DavidFanLIZ at 4:01
I couldn’t agree more — I must keep rewinding and rewinding 2:16 and LOVE the shaky “free hand” at 3:27 too!!
“Every cell in his body is singing”!!!!! I KNOW!
OH and the Argugrowl at 2:45 and the body move
at 3:10 -- you people decide what to call it??
Happy this is a really interesting post. I’m 27 so I kind of see myself as a product of the MTV generation. My musical tastes range widely from Etta James and Sam Cooke to Red Hot Chili Peppers, White Stripes and everything in between. (Although my passion is soul music from the 60’s.)
In recent years I was so frustrated with popular music. The “package artist” replaced the inspired, original artist. Sure some have slipped by (people like Lauryn Hill and Adele come to mind) but something was missing.
I kept thinking, what music from my generation will stand the test of time? I thought very few artists from my generation yearn to touch people’s souls anymore. Enter David.
I have been so touched by his performances on this tour. He really puts his soul out there for his audience. I have not seen an artist like him in my time before, who can so effortless transform himself when singing pop, soul, folk acoustic, torch ballads and even rock. I mean ZG was such a sublime surprise. It’s no surprise Jive and the general public have had a hard time pegging him down.
I think that’s one thing that will really set him apart as he continues his musical journey. He is a multi-faceted artist that can’t be categorized and I think this is very foreign to my “MTV” generation. He is a renaissance artist similar to Sam Cooke and Nina Simone in that they sang so many different styles of music.
Sorry rambling now…anyways your post was great food for thought! Thanks!
If only I had a chance to talk to David this is what I would say to him:
David -- just YOU on that stage singing your heart out -- loving what you’re doing and giving it back to us ten-fold with that SMILE is ALL WE NEED -- no gimmicks, no lights, no dancers -- JUST YOUR BEAUTIFUL VOICE and your BEAUTIFUL SPIRIT…..do you know how good you are?? You give back to us fans soooo much when you perform……do you realize that?
You make sure no one is left out —- you reach everyone in that audience that you’re singing too…..and I haven’t even been to a concert yet -- this is just through videos…….GOSH I can only imagine seeing you LIVE!!
Oh I forgot…Bliss there is some Great, Great Hip Hop out there…it’s just not the stuff on the radio and MTV. Please let me know if you are interested in checking some of it out!
mbmonchi -- welcome to justDavid! So glad you posted. I’m interested in the views of someone your age. You are the demographic that I think is not quite getting David yet. Any thoughts on that? Are the 20 Somethings missing this? And why? I’d love to hear more from you!
rascal 1:34
Lovely mix. Thanks. Now I have no less than 4 vids on my Zune of ZG. Can not get enough of that song!
Also too a peek at the “youthful” rascal Christmas video. How long did you hang onto that blanket binding piece? I’d find keeping track of that quite tough.
Abrra
If I may be indulged to express a few more thoughts about last night. We have been discussing who David really is at this stage of his career and how Jive should present him to the world. Well, I feel the person who David really is at this point of his life showed up last night in ZG – believe me, even the full- length, wide-shot video doesn’t do it justice – the energy, youthfulness, sensuality, joy of life, and musicality exuded from every part of his body shout at us who 18-year-old David really is as an artist, and this David is for all the ages, the young and old, anyone in between, as well as his peers. I don’t think he stepped outside of his comfort zone, in fact, he looked like he finally stepped INDISE of his comfort zone. He used his whole body to sing and to lead the crowd, which became one with him. It is a magical experience. And, by the way, he got the moves – subtle, sensuous, masculine, and so uniquely David.
vee60, thanks so much for the My Hands uploads, I can’t wait for MH Columbus to become available! Not sure why the Clarence vid is so off-balance, sounded incredible from where I stood!
mbmonchi, great post, “renaissance artist” … I like that!
I was thinking about the whole TV/MTV influence on music a couple of months ago when I saw a PBS special featuring a Frank Sinatra/Ella Fitzgerald duet from the 1950s. They sounded amazing together, of course, but both looked gawky, awkward and far from telegenic. I wondered how they would have fared in the industry today. Would TPTB have forced Ella into a bodysuit and stilettos? Frank onto A.I.? yikes
blisskasden March 6, 2009 at 1:37 pm
Bliss
I was thinking about this today. This song (ZG) has such legs, Jive has to find a way to break him out to a wider audience. There just are not many national TV venues that have the scope of say, Ed Sullivan. Other than the award type shows and AI , what else is there? SNL and Late Night are just that—late at night. May be I just don’t hang at the right networks?

Removed by user! Aack!
Oh just remembered. Did ya hear Michael Jackson is coming out of retirement….David have him nervous?
Dear Michael,
If you want to have the BEST, most awesome singing talent, get David Archuleta. He will warm up your fans for you. If you keep him on stage, they may even stay to hear you sing. /snort

Rascal, I didn’t appreciate at first that you had done the mix. Thanks!!!!!!
Liz — I posted the following IM to Josie when I saw that there was a better audio version that needed to be wed to the wide-shot video:
SCREW WORK. MUST EDIT.
(okay, I didn’t say “screw”)
Happy, I really enjoyed your post. I’ve noticed in the last 20 years how DJs have replaced live bands at weddings, graduation parties, Sweet Sixteens and other large parties. Too bad because a live band really adds a human touch to a party but it unfortunately it became more important to have access to a repertoire of songs, than have a live singer and band. Of course cost had a lot to do with it, too, contributing to the commercialization of the music business.
I really like David’s band. I’m sure that the time they have together on the bus, traveling from venue to venue is beneficial to them, giving them time to discuss the previous show, upcoming shows and how to tweak certain songs based on feedback from the audience. And I’m sure they are a huge encouragement for David and for each other, too.
Angelica 1007 I’ve been a fan of your comments since I started on ND. I’m quoting you now:
“David has finally begun to own David Archuleta.”
You rock, girl! You are so right! David finally owns David Archuleta! That comment just fills me up to no end. I’ve been waiting for this day to happen, the day when David would own his talent.
I always thought it odd when David saw a crowd of screaming fans outside his venues and he’s asked by a reporter or radio DJ to react to the screaming fans that all he could say is ‘It’s funny”. He finds it hard to believe that they’re screaming for him. I usually shout back at my screen “David….they’re screaming for you! Don’t you realize by now how talented you are and how much you touch people?
Slowly but surely, David is taking ownership of his talent.
Guys — sorry, the confusion is my fault. The video uploaded twice and I removed one of them. I think I removed the wrong one (meaning the one I had provided the link for), but they were both the same. The one that remains is
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Mh8DLpHBw0
Also — don’t forget to click the HQ button on the user control bar. I don’t know why they ,make you click that every dang time, but it makes a big difference.
Some time ago someone here gave me a site where I could download you tube videos to my mac. (file2hd.com) It has worked for months and now it seems it has gone haywire for me.
Does anyone have any other suggestions of sites that have worked for them on a mac. Googling it gives me zillions of hits.
thank you
rascal 5:33, glad to see that you have your priorities straight!!!
renailim
I use this for ripping YouTube to Iphone ( results in .mp4 format that I drop into IPhone). This site has may types of ripper configurations. maybe it will help? Its free and nothing bad has creeped on to my computer because of it.

119 renailim — The best video download utility for Mac I have found (and I’ve tried a lot of them) is a Firefox browser plugin called DownloadHelper. I think it’s up to version 4.2.
Its icon sits on the Firefox toolbar and when there is any video content on a page that the utility can download, it lights up and starts rotating. You just click on it and it gives you a list of the videos on the page. Select one, and down it comes.

Tofan here is the upload of My hand Northampton concert ( thanks DJ for the video).
Warning… up close and personal, see the smile…..lots of smiles and listen to the audience, singing with him….. and then a capella at the end
Thanks for these vids everyone (and for your mash up, Rascal).
mbmonchi- welcome to JD! And thank you for saying what I wanted to say, although I may be on the tail end (mature side) of the MTV/hip-hop generation.
It’s amazing to me that we’re having a discussion about “real music” vs. pop music, with regards to David, when those who still don’t get David will swear up and down that he’s just pop confection.
The poor misguided souls don’t realize that he’s as real as they come. But sometimes we are quick to dismiss those artists when we don’t get the music. Hip hop is one example.
As someone who grew up on MTV and who grew up in the Bronx listening to rap music in its infancy on midnight radio -- looooong before MTV discovered the music -- and who fondly remembers my high school classmates from Brooklyn Tech making an appearance in the crowd shots of Public Enemy’s “Fight the Power” music video, I tend to get a little defensive about the music (woman-hating lyrics and all).
My problem with the genre goes back to my beef with corporatized music period. It’s the commercialization of hip hop -- not the music itself -- that has been detrimental to the culture. Those hip hop artists “keepin’ it real” won’t be heard on the radio or seen on MTV or VH1.
And yet, “along comes David,” a guy so open to his musical sensibilities, that he imbibes EVERYTHING -- his mother’s Latin, his father’s Jazz, pop music all over the world, gospel music, and hip hop! I remember when David innocuously let us into the window of his electronic soul (when his private myspace and You Tube pages were temporarily accessible), and I was struck by how eclectic his musical tastes were.
I fully believe this has been the reason why he’s so creative with his vocal gifts. It’s the sign of a true artist who exposes himself to all forms of music -- high and low, popular and obscure -- and finds his own style.
Speaking of hip-hop and the artificialities of recorded music, I’m itching to hear a real good techno dance remix or hip hop remix of Zero Gravity. Can’t wait!
I just listened to the Columbus “Barriers.” As the song builds up toward the end and David is holding those amazing notes and the audience is screaming in response, I couldn’t help getting tickled, thinking of wolves howling at each other in the night. Don’t get me wrong, I think it was beautiful.
hey everyone who is looking for rascal’s remix… it has been embedded at the top of this post since he provided the link, just double click on it and it will take you to his youtube. As nice as the close up version is, the wide shot is definitely necessary to get the impact. Thanks rascal.
I am sitting in my office & just watched Rascal’s ZG. I feel like I’m right there!! David is on his way to really breaking free to be himself. Can’t wait to see more!!!
Oh yeah, thank you Rascal for putting ZG up!! You rock!!
abbra 5:13
You are hilarious! But really, I think MJ should open for David, don’t you? We know David would give him his props cuz he’s so polite and all.
abrra -- I misspelled your name. Sorry!
Mbmonci/HG- I enjoy hearing from people your age (not exactly the same, I know, but still younger than me.) Yours is a different perspective than mine. We all tend to operate under the belief that the world was always the way we know it to be and it is hard to imagine it otherwise. There was a time when students actually had to go to the library to research…go into the dungeon at 12 a.m. and dig out the already-outdated-but-as-current-as-it’s-going-to-get microfiche… and grandpa had to walk 5 miles in the snow uphill both ways to get to the library and all he found were really outdated books!
And so it is with music. There was a time when music had to be found and sorted through. There was no ONE main player packaging all of it and telling us what we should like. Music started at the regional level and had sounds indigenous to those regions. There were main labels within each and it was by no means pure, but the net result was a melting pot of American fusion music. This is one of the main differences between truly American music and much of the music in the rest of the world. Look at American music from the 20’ to the 80’s and you will not find the same diversity in any other culture. Then came MTV (what HG wants to call “corporatized music”, just indulge me HG…it is all the same and MTV was the daddy.) MTV was such a commercial success that it didn’t only make corporatized music one of many options for the young public, it became the ONLY option as much of the young public saw it. Soon even country music (historically quite distinct from pop) began to “cross over.” Do not confuse fusion artists with crossover, they are different. “Crossover” has negative connotations, implying the watering-down of a musical genre’s distinctive qualities to accommodate mass tastes while fusion is the avenue of the true evolution of music. MTV is poops in my book.
Won’t it be fun to watch David emerge as a fusion artist for the two-thousand- teens?
HG- one more thing… a dance remix of ZG is a must!!!! oh my heck, they will eat it up.

it’s 1 b 2 r’s easy! Abrra
I am fascinated with MJ’s timing on his comeback. I imagine he knows about David. He might even know how to Google YouTube. The aging pop singer catching the tail of the rising STAR! ZG is the new Thriller!
Abrra
Thank you Abrra and rascalrg for your info on downloading. I had tried dvdvideosoft.com and it didn’t work.
rascalrg 5:48 -- I have safari as my browser not Firefox. Have heard of Firefox but not sure exactly what it is. I will try it later but in the meantime I thank you both.
In the meantime I have been downloading the megaupload video links that have been posted here. Is there a megaupload version of rascal’s mix of zero gravity.
Don’t get me wrong, I love ALTNOY but watching these concerts, Touch my hands (see the columbus one) also have the the energy not as much as ZG but still you can see that David enjoys singing it. he is bouncing, and this is just the first song of the evening.
Thinking about it now, Touch my hand could have be an excellent 2nd single ( JIVE could have been right ).

Touch my hands in Columbus, by emilyluvarchie
rascal/renailim/abrra- I use safari on my mac too and don’t really want to use firefox. That fd2hd thing was working well but is a little quirky lately. Is there another for safari?.. if you already said it, please forgive me. I am technologically challenged… I am a “digital immigrant” not a “digital native” like the under 30 set…. but so are you rascal, so what is my excuse really?

lots of smiles…..too many barriers…a bit of bouncing…..3:11 it feels so gooooooooooood……lots of hand movements ( good for people who cannot hear THE VOICE)
I do love this kid…..can I adopt him now?
renailim March 6, 2009 at 7:40 pm
Sorry it didn’t work. They seemed to cover so many possible conversions. Firefox (free) has a mac version here:
http://fileforum.betanews.com/detail/Mozilla-Firefox-for-Mac-OS-X-v2/1032985422/3
I used to have the Downloader add on for Firefox. The catch is they want to sell you the “converter” feature. Not tried it lately, maybe now it is all free?
I used to use IE but now it’s Firefox all the way.
Abrra
abrra 7:58 if I download this will it affect my safari in any way.
happy -- I liked file2hd.com and that is what I have been using. Are you still able to use it at all. I think it may have an infection since this morning it took me to a link that said something like “a million highly intelligent monkeys are coming to your aid….’” so I have not been back to the site.
MJ coning out of retirement
The King of Pop must have said — “Oh no you didn’t” when David did an MJ-ish yelp (for lack of a better term) in WFM (2:59 on the clarence video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vHZt7UCDBiM).
Must have awakened him from retirement — LOL.
HG -- “when those who still don’t get David will swear up and down that he’s just pop confection.” --> wasn’t it just yesterday that they said he is a one-note boring balladeer? Oh, before I have another “senior moment”, thanks for the Lauryn Hill story. I was a fan also and has been wondering what happened to her. I had such high hopes when she came on the music scene. Sad to hear what happened.
renailim- oh no!! not monkeys! watch out for the Wicked Witch of the West..I heard she’s a *&^ch with an attitude.
….last time I went there was a couple of days ago.. sent somewhere else from my desktop link so I googled it and went from the google link and it was fine…. but now you have scared me…
Aaaargh.. the columbus vids are coming in painstaking trickles. Can’t wait to see full-vids of the rest

happy -- re file@hd.com
I had sent them an email this morning about my problem and I just received a response saying the site was under maintenance and I should try it now and it should work. I tried and it sill takes me to “loading default parallels plesk panel page” -- no ideas what it is all about. I have decided that I will deal with it when I get back in one week.
PS -- does anyone else have a typing problem on this site -- where the print is so small and so light that it is hard to proof read when I type. The posts themselves are fine.
sorry -- should read file2hd.com
renailim834- thanks for the info….. to answer your question- we can all see just fine…it is you, you must have old eyes…please get them checked, you will want to see David clearly in all of his glory….
SF 152- what will we do when he has a couple of hundred concerts under his belt (your favorite belt that is) instead of 8?…….he’s not going to stop learning…. thud.
I’m still using file2hd.com. It was flaky yesterday for a bit and wouldn’t load for me but seems to be fine now. And I’m using Safari.
And agree on the font size for the entry box. You can increase the font size that the post display in…but can’t seem to change the font size on this entry box I’m typing in now. I can barely see it. Sometimes I just type in a Word document and then cut and paste into here so I can see what the heck I am saying.
renailim834 — you are using Firefox, please go to VIEWS in your menu panel and click ZOOM -- you have a choice to ZOOM IN to enlarge text and images or ZOOM TEXT-ONLY If
If IE -- same step but your choices are BIGGEST, BIG, NORMAL, SMALL, SMALLEST.

Happy! I’m just waiting to see him WEARING that belt & lowriders in one of his concerts! Then I’ll just die happy!
Wait a minute..we’re not supposed to care about what he wears anymore! It’s all about the music, The Voice, and the MOVES, Lord help me…the moves!
Aye Caramba!
file2hd.com users
I got another email from the downloading site and they suggested I go to uk.file2hd.com and it is working. hooray.
jackryan4da -- I am using safari and I only have a problem with the letters when I am typing (in the box). When it posts and all the other posts are fine. I will live with it, but it doesn’t happen on any other site.
aaahhh Happy … thanks for the post, revelling in real music> I can not get ZG out of my head (or heart) “Nothing can bring me down when you are around” I keep reliving the concert experience. Seeing David so joyful, sharing his gift, the screams and spontaneous jumping of the crowd. What can I say but that I want more of this Real Music fron The Voice.
JR… thanks for being the link and download master… I can not wait till you get to feel the voice live!

He was so sweet, just smile and laugh after being tricked by the DJs

This is a better link, wait for David’s picture and click on it. A bit of mispelling “Daivd Archuleta, he had no idea what was coming”
He thought it was for real. Commentary on the video.

Boy if you want a real eye-opener, go watch the VA Beach ZG video. David is glued to his mike, singing with great earnestness and the only clue as to what may come are twitching shoulders. Fast forward to Ohio……. at this rate I certainly see him on the Grammy stage performing this and rocking the house. (Assuming Jive gets around to releasing this gem.)
I am now spamming by myself here
“David Archuleta meets evil Trumpet
Best crush ever and then “trumpet accompaniment”
Commentary: David is so sweet ( of course)
He doesn’t see the evil trumpet comin’
David’s reactions: smiles and laughs and the ahhhhhhhhh!!!!!
Hi JR and River992
river992 9:30
there were rumors this morning over at FOD that the song Zero Gravity was given to some other artist to record.
But SF at 8:58… I do care what he wears! Ok, let me get the tomatoes… it’s just that bod like, should be garbed in all things smexy. Just sayin…
VEE -- so you are December-born, a Cap or Sag?
renailim: It is David’s song -- by that I mean he owns it and would get royalties, etc. Do I want someone else to record it? No way! But if it was given to someone else, David must have agreed. But my bet is that it really is just a rumor. It would make no sense for David to make it public -- make it a key part of his concert tour -- if he had sold it to someone else or given rights to another artist to record it. It wouldn’t be fair to that other artist
One thing I’m noticing is David is getting comfortable saying “sorry, can’t come out tonight” to the fans waiting for him to come out of the bus after the concerts. He came out once that I know of. I imagine David is exhausted after his high energy performances and I’m glad he knows now that he can and should say no if he doesn’t feel up to it. I also imagine it kills him to see the fans waiting for him..he must stay healthy, though. And I haven’t heard or read anything negative about it. His fans love him and understand. David has the BEST and most loyal fans!
HAPPY at 8:51, wha? rat you out?
VEE on 9:12 & 9:20 — I forgot to post it last night, here is a downloadable link of that video interview
http://www.sendspace.com/file/8wu83a
Too bad WNCI didn’t upload the whole interview.
HG- Bliss and I are still awaiting the flames, I hope when they come, I can stand the heat… but here is more to flame me for….
Another thing I LOVE, LOVE about the youtube videos of David and the reason they will help with bringing back real music and combat the MTV generations….
The photographers are diehard fans at this point… and therefore the CAMERA NEVER LEAVES DAVID. We are actually able to focus on him, we are drawn into him and we are able to appreciate what he is doing….
Before MTV, an audience watching a performance on TV saw an artist or musical group through the lens of a camera that didn’t change angles and allowed the listener to LISTEN. With MTV, the new way of presenting an artist was to have you watch a vocalist or musician for much less time, maybe 3 -- 10 seconds before the camera shot another member of the group. With less camera work on the artist that was creating the music and more attention paid to special effects and theatrics, the audience did not have an appreciation for how the music was created, nor did they care. Twenty some years later we now have more than one generation of music lovers that listen with their eyes and not their ears and have no idea what creating music is or what a composer, arranger or musician do. We see many artists perform live to tracks and no one in the audience ever questions why there aren’t any live musicians on stage nor questions where the background music is coming from. We even debated this possibility for his debut tour for petes’ sake.
Oh and you referenced, “Video Killed the Radio Star”, by the Buggles. This was the premiere video played on MTV and it symbolizes everything MTV stands for. MTV is poops to me.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XWtHEmVjVw8
(go easy on me..you know I have great affection for you…want a brownie?
)
jackryan4da -- thanks for the medley link. I could listen to him sing this aaalll day. Kinda hate the snippets though, make’s you yearn for the whole enchilada.
sf- who doesn’t care what he wears? Must say, he has been looking mighty fine these days.
Had some time to reacquaint myself with Save The Day in car today. I listened over and over, and I just got hooked on it and couldn’t stop.
Wish YEDL wasn’t taken off the list, another one of my favorites. Those mmmmm’s in the very beginning!
Hey everyone! Had to step out for the evening. Anyway, Happy, your points are always provocative. But I do want to distinguish how, in my mind, MTV and “corporatized” music didn’t just become one and the same entity to me.
By corporate media, I’m really thinking of what happened in the wake of the 1996 Telecom Act, in which different media companies merged and became this ginormous empire that flattened out everything -- both in terms of the pop music we hear and the images that we see.
MTV in its early days actually had some diversity -- both in terms of music and video styles. But once it became a huge vehicle for Viacom, that’s when everything just became this generic, homogenous style.
I guess I should distinguish between MTV before 1996 and MTV after. Like all entities that become empires, absolute power corrupts absolutely.
Anyway, I’m glad we agree that ZG needs to have a dance remix track. Maybe somebody is already working on it, like Sonic Ether?
JR, did I mention the Lauryn Hill story? Very, very sad what has happened to her, and she showed so much promise.
At least David looks like someone who is fully ready to embrace superstardom if (or should I say when?) it comes his way.
SF, is this part of David’s newfound confidence? Saying “no” is very much apart of the liberation process.
TMH inclusive of opening/entrance
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wnxOtDnt4bU
REEAALLLY loud but very good vantage point. Watch in HD to maximized viewing pleasure
Watching some of the videos I was struck by his rocking sans “medecines”
Thanks for that opening of TMH, JR. It brings back memories of Northern Lights and the deafening screams that left my ears ringing the day after! ha ha!
Hi Renailim, are you new to JD? Welcome! About his “rocking sans ‘medecines’”: heh.
David’s fantastic band sets up that amazing opening, working the crowd to a frenzied expectation.Eli has his tympanni mallets working. And then the opening chords of Touch My Hand explode, a flashlight shows him the way onto the stage and the magical set begins. Phones and cameras must look like that wonderwall of stars to him. I did wonder why the tempo was so much slower than what we heard but I’m sure he has a reason. I am so grateful for Youtube.
to maximize.. oi!
Hellogorgeous
I’ve posted occasionally under rena on notingdavid -- however -- this site did not let me use that name. I’ve been on here a lot today since I needed help downloading and people here had given me great advice in the past. Once I am on I find it addictive.
Going to do some voting -- if we don’t vote then we cannot complain about what is played -- at least on 20 at 20.
woot woot JR … the frenzy of expectation… can’t be explained.
Oops! Sorry I didn’t recognize you, rena. Anyway, I need to call it an early night.
Until next time!
Any word on what David was wearing tonight? I love the low-riders and smaller shirt, too. He has a great body. Show it off, boy, while you still can!!
oh now see??? I’m ready to call it a night and you bring up the question of the outfit for tonite. pulse quickens and computer stays on. total ODD.
Hey folks, I am leaving early in the morning for Chicago. Joner and I will catch up with you all on the other side, providing we don’t die from excitement tomorrow. I can’t wait to dish on David for hours.
FREO: OUTFIT UPDATE from FOD: Jeans! Grey t-shirt! Plaid shirt. So cute!
OK!! I give up..what the heck was HE wearing? I can hardly wait!
So far, I’m loving the navy blue shirt he wore in Richmond. And no complaints about the nice fitting jeans either!
Back from a long day in Manhattan. I was having “Zero Gravity”
withdrawal symptoms, and immediately got a dose of Rascal’s fantastic mix and video. As I said to him on You Tube “The feud is over with this video.” Anyone who loves David as much as Rascal has to be a friend of mine.
I can’t imagine anyone but David recording this song, nor can I imagine anyone performing it better. I really hope David is the one who releases this song. It’s a guaranteed smash, and one of the best pop songs I have ever heard.
SF, was it navy blue? I could’ve sworn it was black!
Haven’t signed off yet, but I’m glad you posted before I say g’nite.
Good night all!
I’m anticipating some good pics and vids in the morning. P)
Can soneone explain something to me..why do David’s jeans seem to “fit” better on stage than off. Does he have “spe-shul” jeans just for the stage? Or is it just my imagination getting the best of me?
Seriously!
HG..I’ve heard it was navy blue from some people, and black from other sources..either way..he looked so handsome, it hurt!
ok.. I’ll take the FOD outfit update as fact and retire for the night. as to the jeans, the band is outfitted by Danny Nappi in SLC and he custom makes jeans. I’d think he’d have some on our boy. If you see the flying bull stitched on the back pocket they are Nappi.
That’s good SF… Embrace that ODD part
Wouldn’t it be a hoot if he wears the low-riser jeans to YOUR concert?!
JR!!!!!!!!!!!
Do not tease me that way!
I’m told the venue in albuquerque has a raised glassed-in bar in the center of the floor which has a great view of the stage. I buh-lieve that’s where I’ll park myself. I don’t think I can take being right up front at the stage..after all, I wanna LIVE to see him in Reno & Utah!
Sf- check your email.
I thought the Richmond shirt was black too. Whatever it was, he looked freakin’ gorgeous in it.
If he wears low risers, he may lose his entire fanbase in one blow!
Hey Guys -
I love this new Zero Gravity performance! Does anyone know what the move is that he does from 2:16 -- 2:19? To me this looks like something out of Latin dance…or Dirty Dancing
Hey Guys -
I love this new Zero Gravity performance! Does anyone know what the move is that he does from 2:16 -- 2:19? To me this looks like something out of Latin dance…
oops!!! sorry for the double post -- heeehee!
littlem -- from the Hard Rock Crush vid it is obvious David knows specific dance moves, but this one looks to me like his own spontaneous reaction to the music. Just loooove it!
I know!! I also love the little move he does from 1:18 -- 1:20. Don’t know what it is, but I just love it! LOL!
Had to go check out that one. He is so light on his feet and has this great rhythm, and very fluid. He has definitely got it! I really don’t know how he keeps progressing, it is amazing!
thank you to all who made positive comments about this post and to all the lurkers. It was relaxing not being flamed, lol. (we never heard from the Madonna lovers though…) anyway,
good night all. Thanks for the fun
If I get a chance, I will ask Jeff about ZG if I run into him this weekend
Saying on FOD that Jeff was very ill last night and wasn’t at the show. Gads, I hope they disinfect everything well! Everyone is in such tight quarters on that bus. Sounds like quite a few of the people at the concerts have gotten ill. Might be a small miracle if David stays healthy.
I think the Columbus attire was pectacular.
I meant spectacular..dang typos.
PECtacular works too. heh
Flu is spreading now, which is why David needs to stay away from close contact with groups of people now. The cold isn’t the culprit, it’s the germs on people’s hands, the coughing & sneezing. All that is what David needs to stay away from. I hope Jeff is doing OK. David must be worried about him. Nothing worse than being sick away from home.
Good night to everyone! For David..
Dear Lord, Though we are unworthy to ask,
Please take Care Of David. Watch over him, Protect him from all harm. Cloak him with your love and give him the strength to endure all that is thrown in his path. Give David the courage and guidance to say no to those who ask for more than he can reasonably give. Surround David with loving and supportive people who love him UNCONDITIONALLY as we, his Archangels do. Separate David from those who have agendas other than for his well being. Give him rest when he’s weary. Give him stamina to sustain his hectic pace. Give him assurance when he feels doubt. Give him joy when he feels sad. Cloak him always in your protective arms during this time in his journey. Keep David and HIS VOICE healthy & strong as he fulfills his Destiny which was written in his Book of Life before he was born.
Though we may be unworthy, we humbly pray.
Amen.
David, sweet dreams. Be safe & secure in our love always! Contigo siempre con amor!
thanks JR for the video, downloading it now.
I am Sagittarius through and through.
Now I am watching it now. Thanks again.
emmiegirl 1143 You said: “I really don’t know how he keeps progressing, it is amazing!”
David is like a sponge right now, absorbing everything he can to improve his performance and throwing out what he doesn’t need. Remember on AI how well he took criticism? He used the judges’ remarks to his advantage whenever possible. At the rate he’s going, I don’t think we’ve seen it all yet.

No the one she mislabled was Barriers earlier. I even saw My Hands before it was pulled down, and before my downloading was finished. Am sure it will be up in a while. Still, thanks for the alert JULIE. Slow uploading for Columbus, huh?
I remember thinking at the AI final how little David looked as he sat on the stairs singing DLTSGDOM. Now, he’s a towering figure on stage, and is totally in command of the entire environment. There is absolutely no sense of trying to win over the audience or trying to say or do things that will gain favor with them. It reminds me of Elvis concerts towards the end of his career. The audience was there to spend time with Elvis. He sang, he talked, he joked. It didn’t matter what he did as long as it was Elvis up there. However, this was after 20 years of being the biggest star in the world.
David is being treated like this already. That audience is there to be with David. He has nothing to prove to them. He just needs to be there, and they are getting everything they want. What they get, however, is one breathtaking performance after another, with no short cuts. When you go to a David Archuleta concert, you get the full, complete David. My respect for him as an artist and performer make my knees buckle.
JR -- I think she messed up all around. haha! Because I definitely had an ALTNOY that was labeled My Hands. And you had an ALTNOY labeled Barriers. haha! ah well….
David is like a great chef. No matter how many times he cooks the same dish, it always a little different, but always tastes delicious. That performance of “My Hands” is a good eample of that. I mean, we’re seeing him sing the same 18 songs every night, but each time they all sound fresh and unlike the other times. Who else can do that?

ATM and Angels -- Madison

Marie7- Thanks! I have thought about that for a while too.
I think that my generation, and MTV had a big hand in this, grew up where uninspired, mediocre music has been PRESENTED to us in a disingenuous way.
Since MTV I think that music has come in waves and once a pure voice reveals itself the industry jumps on it and waters it down so fast that many don’t catch on to it.
Example Kurt Cobain was an original voice and that was watered down to pop-ish bands like Fallout Boys etc. IMO they are just bland music dressed up as a rock. I mean kids really think that Jonas Brothers are rock music when they are really just a pop boy band dressed up like a rock band.
Same thing happened to hip hop. Soulja Boy is just catchy pop music dressed up as hip hop but he bares NO resemblance to great hip hop groups of the early 90’s like Public Enemy and Tribe Called Quest that had a message and point of view.
So when a great voice or movement comes, there are so many mediocre imitators that come along. They look the part but they are missing the essence, the soul of a true voice and artist. It’s so easy to do now. He looks like a rock star, hip hop, pop star so that’s what he is.
I think that many people of my generation can’t tell the difference between the real deal and the imitators.
It’s like the difference between an artisan Wisconsin Cheddar and Velveta. It looks the same so it must be the same right? It’s like, NO don’t take their word for it… taste it!! Listen to the good music from the past so you know what it tastes like!
Then there’s David. He is truly a multi-faceted artist. But it’s so easy to just look at the surface and miss out on the essence of what he is. I think that will change though because I believe a great voice like his can’t be denied and more people my age will eventually get him…it just might take a little time.
Hellogorgeous – I totally agree with your posts and wish more people got to hear the real hip hop that means something and not that watered down stuff on the radio now.
And I can’t wait for a dance/hip hop mix of ZG! Crosses fingers!
Happy- Your posts are right in so many ways and MTV doesn’t even play music anymore! It will be interesting to see how this generation takes back control through the internet

Thanks for the Madison ATM & Angels link. As always, listening to that beautiful VOICE is a great way to start the morning!
mbmonchi0407 -- “It will be interesting to see how this generation takes back control through the internet.”
My sons have uttered similar sentiments in terms of music played on the radio, MTV and the use of the internet. Both in bands, played several instruments and in performance arts (singing, acting, dancing) as teens and into their twenties now. Anyone from “AI,” in their opinion, isn’t “for real” and “took a shortcut.” Older son has a classically trained voice and has, until now, only pursued performing as a “hobby.” He has decided that he is going to NYC to audition late this spring (putting grad school on hold--’Yikes’ says the the inner me and the outer me says “go for it!”)--he acts, dances and sings (tenor.) Younger son plays jazz guitar (although classical is his first love) in a local Jazz band and they have periodic engagements. He has actually watched ZG on his own volition and he is a very hard sell--LOL.
Basically they, and their 20-something friends, have tuned out radio and MTV in a way that previous generations have not, except for a few artists, and, are heavily involved in creating their own performance art experiences.
They don’t “get” David but they are willing to listen to his music and view youTube vids when I ask them. They have focused more on the fact that he came to notice out of “AI,” his age and his niceness as their filter to “hearing” his music; ZG gave them a another way to see his music.
I look forward to more of your insights. Thanks!
Good morning everyone. It is also morning here, 12:02 am Sunday. Just back from a bday party.

JR 0715 -- That TBWY is the best video yet for audio quality from this tour. Very little screaming and Kendra’s harmony is more in the background, softer. Major chill’s without even being there for the live performance!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IgrD-BFC_i0
This has given me visions of listening to (or listening and seeing live) David sing with a string quartet -- violin, cello, violas or some combination of the vast array of string instruments…a string quartet tribute album….one can dream!
that 4 stack of ZG is like a giant ice cream sundae with every topping I love. just yummy. keep them coming.

Am sorry but seriously in that video, David’s warm silky voice just washes over me and everything else vanished.
Except when the string came on and I was transported into this vast venue, David on a big stage on ivories and the spotlight on him.
Someday soon, right? Someday soon…
The crowd last night may have sounded relatively “quiet” compared to some of the previous concerts, however according to this post at Snarky’s, we can’t always tell from the videos what was happening between songs. I kinda felt David was not his usual exuberant self in the vids from last night and his eyes looked tired, but it could have been because of things like this…
“The show itself wasn’t too bad. The crowd was a lot less mature and more pushy and aggressive than the previous night’s. David was concerned about people getting crushed because of how forceful the crowd was. Two little girls had to be pulled out from the front of the barricades during his set and another girl passed out and had to be carried out of the pit by security. Our dear Amy came this close to passing out herself…scary times. David put on a great show as usual, but the crowd kind of ruined the concert experience”.
As I said, can’t always tell what goes on between songs. David obviously put on a great show. The Voice on ATM & Angels was superb & sublime, but it was a rough night for David. He may have been worried about dad too.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7LD_b6iaulI&eurl=http://fansofdavid.com/
This may be very unpopular and I may get more than tomatoes thrown at me but….I wish people would leave their 12 and under kids at home for these concerts. There were quite a few very small children at the Infinity, a grunge dance club that held 800 people. It was standing room only, no seating, and no little kids were going to be able to see David without being held up by an adult or otherwise being right up front (a dangerous place to be).
There were bar-level tables on raised floor sections on the sides of the dance area (mosh pit) where people were crowded around them, laying their coats down and generally being exceptionally accommodating to one another. But one mother asked if her (about) 8 year old could sit up there. Well, that would block the view of about 8 standing people behind her. Other shildren were being picked up and hoisted over someone’s head to get a look. Parents were pushing their children through the already tight crowd to get to the front on those side raised sections and pushing people against railings, etc.
Stand-up bar concerts are not the place for pre-teens. The middle teen kids could take care of themselves and the one’s standing near me stood on tip-toe, took their pictures and videos and generally enjoyed the concert (although the screaming was a bit much). But the littler ones were in danger and caused dangerous situations for the rest of the crowd. Leave the little one’s home.

Dear bar venues,
Please place a clown out front with a yardstick stating “You Must Be THIS —————> Tall to enter.”
Abrra
good morning all~ starting to come out of Archuhaze~not willingly I might add~ I NEED to be at another concert. lol.up close again would be oh so sweet..
Have you all checked out those stacked Zero Gravity videos..that is very cool concept..and..they are including MY VIDEOS!!!That is crazy!!
Marlie7~ I agree with you on the preteen mosh issue.I brought a preteen with me to a Jingle Thingy mosh and it was not a good situation. We had to leave the mosh,at the preteens request, begging actually, even before David came out.He said he would not do it again…Give him a seat and he is there ia a heartbeart,he is willing to wait…Smart kid..
Marlie..no tomatoes from me! I totally agree! I don’t understand why anyone under 16 is even allowed in these mosh pit gigs, even with adult guardians. It is dangerous!
I’ve always been under the impression David’s concert tour was geared to and for his adult (or at least over 16) fans and specifically to reach the 18-30 YO to whom he still has to prove himself. Which incidentally, really leaves me out, doesn’t it!
But wild horses couldn’t keep me away..I’ll just stay quietly far in the background…well, maybe not quietly…
David is still holding steady at #1 in xRank for Celebrities, Musicians and Xtreme Movers categories! Amazing to me, considering David isn’t the only one on tour…ahem!
Albuquerque venue is Sold Out !!!
Have a great day!
Marlie -- Hope the end of David’s present tour will also be the end of the “Standing-Room-Only venues.” Those are not my cup of tea either. His agents have to know by now that he will sell-out any room. David deserves the larger arenas with great acoustics and seats for everyone! I was in the back at the Infinity, so I was not squished… and being tall, I had a good view of the stage. A funny thing: I claimed a spot behind two trash cans, so there was a big space in front of me with no heads, hats or hairdos to have to look over! There were shorter people on my right side, and I know they could not see at all. They occasionally sang along, but mostly just chatted. One guy on my left was comical. He wore earplugs for Leslie Roy’s set. But quickly became unplugged and never stopped bopping -- for David -- with the biggest smile on his face! Me. too!
New BARRIERS VIDEO from MADISON, WI
NEW RUNS!!!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Pa3afvCJak
Looks like I missed a lot of fun here as well as great videos in the last 24 hours. Work, both personal and business, have been overwhelming. I did try to get on the computer last night but between my husband and kids I couldn’t get close -- and that’s with 4 computers!
Interesting about the Madison concert -- I have to tell you I’m quite surprised. I love Madison, went to college there and my daughter is probably going to school there as well. They have a fantastic music scene. It’s obvious that the college kids have no idea about the real David, because it sounds like they were not in attendance there. Unfortunately that is a demographic David is not connecting with, to them his music must not be “cool enough.”
Happy -- loved your post and totally agree!!
Sorry if this has already been posted, but I can’t stop watching it (Columbus, My Hands)… esp. the ending. Watching David play and experiment with the a cappella vocals in the coda at each show has been pure joy.
And hearing the screaming crowd hush as they hang on each note… wow.

Am surprised that these establishments are actually allowing kids to the concerts, given how strict they are with camera & flashbulbs! And for the parents/aunties/uncles bringing them, how do you enjoy the show?
[In search of You Can from Columbus]
Some of these performances are truly unbelievable. We can discuss and analyze David ’till the cows come home, but all one really needs to do is watch David and listen to him to know what he’s about. SOT from last night was , well, you know…
One of these days there will be this giant, booming THUD and we will all just drop dead. Headlines will read,
Archuleta Fans become Angels…..
Not alot of Madison videos yet, but David’s ATM and Angels at Madison were, for me, perfect. Even the piano playing seemed more natural and at ease, and at the same time, more deliberate. In fact, all of the videos from last night, to me, show a little more subdued, connected performance, but also freer, if that makes sense; maybe not as much physical energy, but an even deeper emotional connection and his voice, well, it’s back.
Rereading this, and, it makes no sense at all. But none of this does, so I went for it and posted anyway.
happy, interesting post. “I do believe this [package artists] all started with MTV …”
Actually, I see this dating back to the 70′s, one of my favorite music genres. Perhaps it started with TV. The Jackson 5, the Osmonds Brothers, the Partridge Family (patterned after The Cowsills) were all ‘package artists’ with TV shows boosting their popularity.
I’d like to thank the person in a previous post who pointed out the difference in quality btwn Amazon and iTunes mp3s. I just compared the two and there’s a huge difference. Amazon is much better.
Hello everyone! I’m just popping in while I’m on a retreat today and looking to see what’s new at JD.
And can I just say that, with that new SOT Columbus video (up close and personal! Yowee!!), I’m in love with David’s fingers? ha ha!
The ones on his right hand -- the way he gently lifts them up as if he’s about to caress you -- THUD!
OK, heading back offline.
Have a great day!
HG -- That was a very mean-spirited thing to do to us. Hit and run much? haha!
HG -- yyyyep, noticed.
Hi Everyone,
Hit and run post here. Is it just me or has anyone else noticed a connection of sorts between the way David is dressed and his performances for that night?
Bear with me here -- when he dresses in a hip, fashion-forward style -- his performances tend to be more energetic. When he goes for the plaids, sweater or hoodies -- his performances tend to be more subdued. Last night was a plaid night. Maybe he had his sick dad on his mind or was tired, but the energy level was definitely projected lower than the previous show in Columbus.
What do you guys think?
Review up at snarkys on last night. A quote “He’s got a strong voice and heartfelt (if sappy) delivery, only marred by his tendency to approach songs with the same timbre.”
Can anyone with the knowledge explain to me how someone changes their timbre. I always thought that was the natural tone to your voice. Isn’t that what makes David voice so remarkably beautiful, the timbre, the tone?
And, how would David, or any one else for that matter, go about changing that if they wanted to? I don’t get it, or am I just an idiot?
joymus -- hmmm, I don’t know. I thought he looked great last night though, I like that look. Or maybe I just like his look. Anyway, did notice a little less energy, but for me some of the performances were among his best. Could be the crowd, fatigue, mood, lots of things. I love seeing all of these sides to David, part of the beauty of live performances. I think we know one thing already, David will never short change you. He will give you every single ounce of what he has to give every night.
How can something be “heartfelt” and “sappy” at the same time?
The problem with these critics is that they are more concerned with writing an “insightful” article than they are in the quality of the artist they are writing about. I know I am sounding my usual defensive and protective about David, but this annoys me. There is a huge difference between heartfelt and sappy, and to co-mingle the two is oxymoronic, with an accent on moronic. Sappy, my tuchis!
Joymous 3:21 -- Hard to tell if David’s outfit for the night has a correlation to his performance. I’m thinking it is more a coincidence. None of us know how David is really feeling, and/or what circumstances during the day influence his performance. For example (from a Mom’s perspective): Is he especially tired one day over the next? Hard to say. We don’t know, for instance, how much sleep he needs or when he gets up in the morning. Although at times, we do see him popping up on radio stations very early in the day. Does he get time to rest before a performance? He has Meet & Greets and other show obligations. The main thing is, we know he loves to sing. I think he is energized from his fans and the venue, and however the music comes out of him -- whether playful, bouncy or subdued… then that is what we get for that particular night. It’s all beautiful. As SF would say: He is the VOICE and that is all we need!

That same reviewer asserts that the “concept of teenagedom” was born in the 1950′s. Interesting. I thought sure I remembered seeing old film clips of teenage girls swooning over young Frank Sinatra.
I am sorry, but she is annoying as h—! Squeaky, squeaky clean and cheery! Give me a break! So what would you prefer, filthy and maudlin?
And this, “it will be interesting to see if he grows up along with his fans or gets stuck in teenland.” Puhleese! I don’t even know what this means! She actually was at the concert, wasn’t she???
joymus, 3:12, too funny! Got this email from a friend (and fellow concertgoer) this a.m. (hope she doesn’t mind):
“I think his performances are directly linked to his outfit. He’s more restrained in a shirt, too hot in a hoodie, but every tshirt show has been free, rawking and intense.”

Emmiegirl 325 I just asked my husband who has been teaching music (instrumental, not voice) for the past many years if you can change the timbre of your voice and he said that you can sing falsetto to reach your high register or you can sing with accents but the basic timbre of one’s voice can’t be changed.
From Merriam Webster Dictionary:
timbre
the quality of tone distinctive of a particular singing voice or musical instrument

My pleasure! Have you seen the all the replies to her review? David has fierce fans and are giving her a whip-lashing! FTW! I’m about to add mine, too!
Thanks for the avi compliment. I wish it was larger. I love David’s hands.
BTW Has anyone noticed that David’s ear thingy has been resting on his shoulder lately and that he’s not relying on it as much? I noticed it mostly in the Columbus show.
Luv to read DA fans’ comments..We are really behind his back.
bebereader -- Every time I change avi’s I wish the box were a little bigger!
I have notice that too, about the ear piece. Wish I knew more about them and what the pros and cons with them were.
I have also noticed in the first few concerts David was looking over at Mike quite a bit, seemed like just for a bit of assurance. Now, he ain’t lookin’ nowhere but straight into his audience! Seems like he does nothing in baby steps, but by leaps and bounds!

Enjoy, probably we can torture that reviewer and send this video
David and the band wear two in-ear monitors and he nearly always takes out the left one. He likes to hear himself, but also what’s going on around him. the cord goes to each and then down his back to his pack. I see him adjusting the sound on his right hip. once he gets to jumping the loose one flails around. I am noticing that the early Idol shows again do not let the kids wear monitors and they sure suffer. crowd noise makes it near impossible to hear the band or themselves.

Hey all! Joner and I are in Chicago. We took a cool pic of the notice outside the House of Blues that indicates that his show is tomorrow and sold out. We are so excited about the show tomorrow! The venue is very cool inside, as is the area around it. Very cool downtown Chicago location, near the river, famous mile, museums, and the lake.
We’ll be sharing more soon!!
Emmiegirl 532 You said: “I have also noticed in the first few concerts David was looking over at Mike quite a bit, seemed like just for a bit of assurance. Now, he ain’t lookin’ nowhere but straight into his audience! Seems like he does nothing in baby steps, but by leaps and bounds!”
I noticed that too Emmie! It’s all part of David taking ownership of David Archuleta. Isn’t it glorious to watch happen right before our eyes? I also noticed that during ZG, David is beginning to start the jumping and the rest of the band follows, as it should be. Love how he starts to bubble up at the end of the song until it evolves into “the jump”. I noticed that mostly at the last show in Madison.
Hey freofan! Great to hear from you! Looking forward to your updates!
Hi emmiegirl,
Don’t you worry none about that critic. Everyone is born with a specific vocal quality to their voice -- this is what makes our voices distinguishable from everyone else. David can no more change his timbre than he can sing a bad note (kidding here but mostly true). The most any singer can do is to control the breath enough to muscle the cord to produce all variety of pitches -- soft, loud, high or low. Because singers spend hours honing this particular skill as opposed to non-singers, it gets easier with time. To suggest that David change the very nature of his voice which has already been altered to some degree by the vocal paralysis, is to perhaps ask him to swap with say…DCook to get something more to his/her liking.
EDIT to my last post 821, next to last paragraph.
Should read:
I noticed that mostly at the show in “Columbus OH”.

OUTFIT UPDATE REVISED! LOL! Long sleeved black henley over a blue T and dark jeans. Black Converse shoes. And the crowd loves him! They are taking people’s cameras!
JR: Thanks for the matrix -- you are so organized!
I read about the cameras thing, SF. I wonder if we’ll get any decent pictures or videos. Some sneaky fan will at least get a few. We might get some more of those ones like Virginia Beach where half the time the camera was pointed at the ceiling!
On another note, I read over there (somewhere) that Kendra was really helping David eat properly -- lots of organic, and she reads the labels on everything he wants to eat. He called her the night they had off this week and told her he was hungry and would she go to the bus with him and help him pick out something healthy to eat. So cute! They had celery with peanut butter or something
JR cannot open the excel file. it says corrupted.
I will just list the megaupload I did.

Guys , I thought no more discussions of his outfit, just THE VOICE
I have tried to be less of a slave to my ODD in the past few days. Tried so hard. I hadn’t not even watched a single video from the past two concerts. (until tonight)!
So I am back to the balancing act. It makes me a happier person.
Even found a quote to justify it!
The only way to get rid of a temptation is to yield to it. Resist it, and your soul grows sick with longing for the things it has forbidden to itself.
- Oscar Wilde
(a bit dramatic but I love it!)
As if, all black this time, need some videos NOW STAT

Awww! we may not have pics or video from Duluth!!
I just wonder if David & Co have the option to allow cameras and video-cams if they want or if they have to adhere to the venue’s policy? Surely there is a professional videographer taping all the concerts for David. A HQ DVD of the best performances of the tour would be a best seller, and would be IMO, very profitable for David.
I didn’t see anyone that looked like a professional videographer at Infinity.
PICTURES at FOD!!!
Hmmm Does anyone know why the responses now begin at Marlie 1044 pm? Wonder what happened to the replies previous to this?
Aha! Just saw the link for “older replies”.
No worries.
Carry on..
LOL
The cooments may have been collapsed to avoid load time…but I do not see a link to them like last time.

No videographer?? Doesn’t make sense! I guess I just thought David’s family anyway, would want to have every concert on tape. I know there’s loads of videos by fans, but what about the interaction between David & his audiences, the banter between songs? This intimacy David & his fans are having may NEVER happen again. A once in a lifetime experience, for David and his fans should be recorded.
bebereader: We changed it so it rolls over at 300 comments to make the page load faster. It gets really slow after a while.

I can’t quit listening to the new interview.
I’m remembering Rascal some months back during the AI tour said something like, “What’s he gonna do when he’s playing Carnegie Hall. Will he think all the people are there to see the musicians?” when we were discussing if maybe his tentativeness on stage was due to the fact that he probably thinks everyone in the audience was there to see the OTHER idols. (I’m sure I’ve got the quote wrong but I’m too lazy to try to go and find it. haha! Sorry Rascal.)
What struck me with this interview…is that 1) he confirms our suppositions and 2) he’s finally got it! Yay! Hence the newfound confidence I think. And I think the epiphany came opening night. There was a HUGE leap from Virginia Beach to Richmond in stage presence.
Great interview with Keith Kelly linked on the older comments page. I love that he finally gets that we are now coming out to see HIM. Talking with a mouthful of almonds and he interrupts the interview with this dramatic intake a air…”uuhhhhhh!! Like here I come Elizabeth! Like he’s gonna relate something earth shattering! Then he proceeds to tell about this amazing sandwich he had. Bwahahahaha!! I have 4 nephews and when they were teens, they were eating machines! Well, after all, he’s still a growing boy. I’m glad Miss Kendra is helping him eat healthy while on the road, which is just as important as enough rest.
Just watched the latest vid on Snarkys. He talks about not eating pizza anymore, “unfortunately, that’s why I’m eating a bell pepper.”
Thanks Marlie7 1046….Makes a lot of sense to roll over the comments. I was just worried that I somehow lost the previous pages.
Angelica 12:08 hahahahaha You imitate him so well! He’s so passionate about food, and about lfe in general. So refreshing and contagious!
Did you see the picture Kendra wearing a pink shirt that says, “I’m David Archuleta’s Blonde Keyboard Chick”
Marlie -- I’m pretty sure the Snarky’s gave that to Kendra. Did you see the vid here…
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tB0WFmO2RF8
David introduces the band and when he introduces Kendra she comes out from behind the keyboard to show off her shirt! haha! Of course, he then needs to tell everyone that “someone got that for her”. heh
Hands down most important archu_thought of the day has gotta be:
moroccan frickin’ chicken kabob sandwiches ftw!
(like, i almost wish I WUZ one if it can make him that adorably HAPPY!)
juliebug — seriously, that z101 interview was beyond precious. Mega-watt happiness personified. Yes, David, PEOPLE ARE SPENDING THEIR MONEY TO SEE YOU! YOU! YOU, yer own bad self!! Yes, he is finally getting it! What a DOLL. Guh! (His happiness is the new penicillin. I swear.)
VEE -- can you try this link. thanks!

He is so easy to please and excite: A chicken kebab sandwich! And he sounded like discovered the cure for cancer bwahahahahahahaha. Got to love him! Can you imagine how much endorsement he is giving all these restos & eateries?
And yes dear David: make no mistake about it -- they are there to see you. YOU! YOU! ONLY YOU!
When it is time for me to see him live, am toast.

JR got it.

I kinda like ravishing and resplendent.
Yeah, that’s David.
vee60, David is indeed beautiful..There aren’t very many males who I have described as “beautiful” in my whole life, very few. David is definitely one of the most beautiful, inside & out. He is perfection. And especially when he’s singing. He gets better looking every day..what’s he going to look like at 20, 25, 30??
Very few pics from Duluth at FOD so far. Hoping for videos.
New post!
