David 1.0
US09 Tour Wrap
David may be a born singer, but unlike many other young, aspiring talents, David is not a born performer. Quite the contrary. As a child, his shyness and humility required that he be coaxed and cajoled into singing for small groups of relatives and friends, and slowly but surely in front of increasingly larger crowds. In fairly short order, those crowds became multitudes, and David’s audience today is global and growing.
It is an interesting irony that someone who was at first so audience-shy is so responsive to the live performance setting. No producer has yet gotten near to extracting in the studio what David is capable of onstage. In the course of his early development as a performer, he could have conceivably developed an emotional wall between himself and the audience — tuned them out, as it were — in order to manage his nerves and his lack of confidence. Instead, he bravely opened himself. He shared his vulnerability. He connected. I suspect David gradually discovered that far from being a frightening place that required sheltering, the stage, for him, was just the opposite. The stage was a place unlike any other in the world, a place he could control, and where opening his heart was always met with love.
If Star Seach was alpha and American Idol was beta, David’s US 09 Tour was by all rights the first full-fledged, ready-for-prime-time, worldwide release of the cross-platform, widget-ready power-app known as David Archuleta. And gosh dang it if the thing didn’t dazzle right out of the box.
Oh, it took a couple of test-runs to warm up, but the general consensus among the early adopters is that by Sayreville, the app was performing functions and showing off features that hadn’t even been advertised. Some even thought a couple of showings warranted an ESRB rating sticker.
In truth, the US09 Tour was perhaps not the ideal vehicle by which to experience the true depths of connection for which David Archuleta is already becoming known. Comprised mainly of middle-of-the-road pop material from his very respectable but ultimately uninventive debut album, the tour wound up drawing more on David’s less-developed skills as a performer than on his remarkable gifts as a sophisticated vocalist. And the success of the tour–not just in box office receipts but in the strength of David’s delivery on date after date–is that much more remarkable because of it. In the end, David’s first solo tour will have been more important for David’s own development as a performer than for his career, the cultivation of his audience, or the fulfillment of his fans.
The two component parts of the phrase, “performing artist” can be quite different from each other within a single individual. There are plenty of performers who possess rather dubious credentials for actually getting on a stage, as well as many great talents whose lights will be forever under a bushel. What is perhaps surprising about David’s evolution as a performer is just how much practice he has actually had, and how long it has taken him to reach certain levels of aptitude. David Archuleta is nothing if not methodical.
The interesting thing is, there is never anything that strikes one as methodical about his performances (except for possibly some of the pre-song patter, which he seems hell-bent on delivering word-for-word, regardless of the circumstances or how quickly the band comes in to challenge him). Every note, every musical moment — and, increasingly, every move and gesture, every shoulder pump and hunker-down — feels utterly spontaneous. And even though his progress is methodical, even incremental, it always amazes me how it also seems to have happened so fast. Wasn’t it just a year ago that the prospect of David commanding a stage and working a crowd was about as likely as hearing him curse like a sailor? I have come to the conclusion that the reason his thoughtful, incremental progress seems so rapid is because he chooses just exactly the right increments. David doesn’t take risks just to see what will happen. He decides what will work and then he bets it all.
This is perhaps best exemplified by Zero Gravity, the buoyant club-track-in-training co-penned by Mr. Archuleta himself (it’s no surprise and no accident that a majority of the best cuts on–and not on–the album are David’s). At it’s tour debut, Zero Gravity felt distinctly like an experiment. David didn’t seem at all certain of it’s place in the current repertoire, or even of his own synergy with the song. But the audience response was immediate and clear: He had a crowd-pleaser on his hands. Within just a few shows, David had worked Zero Gravity into a pumped-up, get-down, sexy and spirited hit.
Most performers who find early success because of prodigal talent don’t tend to evolve much beyond their initial scope of skills. They may explore different realms and dimensions of their instrument, try different directions in style and mood, but the sum and substance of their appeal doesn’t usually evolve in a fundamental way. I think David is unique in this regard. It seems clear that even with the magnificent voice, the unerring musicality, the impeccable taste, and now the emerging skill in songwriting and stage command, we are still only scratching the surface.
The implication of still greater potential signified by David’s careful progess into his own comfort zones, his methodical embrace of his own power and of the widening world at his feet, is at once astonishing, exciting, and absolutely frightening. If David 1.0 can galvanize audiences, surprise critics, and cause such mass hysteria, spiritual epiphany, and obsessive Googling, what is in store for the world on the arrival of, say, David 4.3?
I have to laugh a little when I think about what’s really possible in the future from David. For some obvious (and perhaps not-so-obvious) reasons, David is extremely guarded about any direct expression of sensuality. When he is in the world of his music (which for him is a different world altogether), he can’t help it, of course, and his sensuality oozes out of him like the juice from a sweet summer pear, one which lacks any knowledge of having been bitten or of even being so ripe. What is it going to be like when he truly embraces his own sensual nature? What instrument exists that can measure the power certain to surge from a David Archuleta who uses his sensuality consciously, intentionally, like he uses his miraculous voice? We think he’s smoldering now… My friends: These are cool, collected embers compared the raging brush fires that this guy is capable of.
But at the end of the day it is The Voice. For many people, there is an unmistakable tone, a timbre, a frequency of some kind that David produces which, at certain moments, pierces through every emotional barrier, every cynical thought, and touches a place of deep and abiding tenderness, that universal point of perspective where sadness and joy become one, and the great fullness of wise recognition, the great surges of profound understanding, overflow and become tears. One of the few experiences that can bring us to this place in a veritable instant is great art. There weren’t perhaps enough of these moments in the US09 tour, but there were some. One of them is offered here, with thanks to genevievewang and StarryNites01.
David Archuleta is immensely powerful not because he is now becoming a pro at leading a crowd or commanding a stage, or even because of a nascent sensuality that is slowly extending itself, but because he invites you to listen and not just hear; to participate with your heart and not just your senses; to realize that music is not a broadcast but a communication.
People feel unusually close to David because his natural state is, ironically, one of intimacy… an intimacy that I dare say he can cultivate and is comfortable with only onstage. For better or worse, this is the mark of a true star and a great artist: one who can locate their true nature only in the realm of performance; who is most powerful and most vulnerable in that odd and magical public setting. It is these artists who have such passionately devoted fans, because somehow their fans know that for these rare and generous individuals, their time onstage is indeed not just a performance. It is life.

rascal- ♥
I am delighted to hear your voice again.
He speaks!!!
Very few people could have written such a truthful and articulate summary of David’s Tour and brought tears to my eyes at the same time. Your love of David and his artistry, his potential, are evident in the choice of your words, and yet, you never gush or overstate the reality of where David is in his development right now. I’m so glad you are back!
And now you have me thinking about David 4.3
Rascal, I always feel embarrassed to post anything following your wonderful words.
Wow! Just wow.
joner 5- how about…. “david 4.3?….. thud.”
Happy #6 -- Promise me you’ll have the paramedics on stand-by.
I’m so glad you’re back… I’ve truly missed you. Wow…
Sayerville.. yes… like he shed something that weighed him down for years. And to watch it continue to grow… was nothing short of brilliant.
Now he speaks comfortably about feeding off the energy of his crowd that once unnerved him to the core.
His growth is unfamiliar to so many.
What does Jive do with our David ?
What does our David do with our David ?
He’s recently expressed not knowing what direction he’s headed. And I don’t know what direction he’s headed.
Soul infused pop ?
David.. the cross-over king ?
He can do it all.
Performance artist extraordinaire.
From watching him during AI.. to my solo concerts.. was profoundly changing. He went from shy giggly cute boy on stage.. to someone I feel a kinship to…because of his ability to reach out in those venues. He made every single person there feel special. And that’s a tall order to fill.
David 4.3 ?
Gosh… I don’t know if the world could take it. He’s already got us thudding and gahhing and speechless at every turn.
This is one wild ride… one I’m extremely proud to witness.
Happy- only you would surface that avatar. Just perfect.
And then, Rascal, such a great feel for David’s comet-like emergence as a performer. When I stood in front of him at Sayerville and Northampton I was dumbfounded watching what took place. What just happened? If this was 1.0 we’re going to need some new numbers. The scene at the mall concert in Singapore and the uproar at the airport today are only the beginning. Thank goodness many of us got to be up close on his first tour. We will never forget it and have to accept that most probably it will never happen again.
So apt, so poetic, so true!
“David Archuleta is immensely powerful not because he is now becoming a pro at leading a crowd or commanding a stage, or even because of a nascent sensuality that is slowly extending itself, but because he invites you to listen and not just hear; to participate with your heart and not just your senses; to realize that music is not a broadcast but a communication.”
David is to music what you are to the written word, dear Rascal, and I just want to join my fellow ND/JD/DC members in applauding you for this exquisite piece. David is lucky to have such a fan in you, and we are all lucky to have you as our most eloquent mouthpiece expressing all of our love and intellectual fervor for David.
It took, what?, less than two months for The Other Voice (I think I will call you this from now on, Rascal) to transcend the silence, to rise out of the ashes and emerge stronger and soar higher (with a cool new site too!). Those of us who kept the candle lit over at JD did what we could to preserve that serious and irreverent tone, knowing that we were preparing the way for something bigger and brighter -- growing just as expansive and as rapidly as the artist we all revere.
Thank you for this beautiful and evocative review!
river9- you have a corgi avi ’cause you breed corgis…. well, I am quite the horticulturist and I grow pears… just showing one, that’s all.
HG 10- well said.
Rascal.. I’m going thru the piece again, but what keeps popping into my mind is that first time you wrote about meeting David on the Idol tour. “You’re so good to them…. I write about you…. ” and oh that photo of him intently listening. It’s like it was yesterday, and yet developmentally, so very long ago. I can’t imagine having followed his path without these blogs.
Dawn wrote:

To me, I think there’s a key difference between David not knowing what direction he’s headed musically and Jive not knowing. David remaining open and experimental, to me, speaks of a true artist and an original. Someone who is clearly not in it to imitate anyone else. Sure, he has his idols, those artists whose styles he finds the most comfortable to emulate -- like Jason Mraz or Sara Bareilles or Eva Cassidy -- but he’s also got such a musical brain (as we once discussed: was it TOfan’s post?) that I think he would be happy to branch out in different genres, or integrate those genres, perhaps keeping pop music at the core of his identity.
My problem with whatever label he’s working with is the bottom line is driving too much of the “direction” David could be heading in. I just want the guy to keep experimenting, to keep singing, and to be given a fair shot at stardom. I know David would be perfectly fine existing below the radar, so long as he’s given the chance and the support to make music and put out some albums, you know, make a living at what he clearly loves to do. But, it’s his ability at creating this “intimacy” with his audience that makes me hope his audience will surely grow.
I firmly believe this world needs his light now and the simplicity and grace with which he delivers his music can teach us all something about how our lives could be lived at this particular moment in time.
Rascal, you talk about David 4.3, I’m wondering if I could take David 2.0!
Rascal, I’ve been interested to know how you’ve felt about David’s stage presence since his Sayerville show. I’m comforted in knowing you are as delighted as the rest of us!
my favorite-

I’m going to need a pacemaker if David keeps improving at this rate.
David 4.3 = DEFCON 4.3
If any of you have kids in college, tell them they should become cardiologists.
I predict there will be a huge demand for them in the very near future.
HG #14 .. “My problem with whatever label he’s working with is the bottom line is driving too much of the “direction” David could be heading in.”
I couldn’t agree with you more. I think that in part is why ZG didn’t make the debut album.. and some of the other gems were “B” sided. Trying to keep with a “pop genre”.
I will be the first to admit that I don’t know how that works…maybe rascal can interject here… but is it necessary to plop an album into a genre for it to sell ?
I think he spoiled us on this tour.. we got ballads…we got blues..we got latin ..we got dance..we got piano man…we got archustomps…shoulder wiggles (thud) …we got smiles..we got tears…we got concern…we got love.
Wow… ALL things David…has suddenly become this HUGE chasm of unchartered territory. And to that end.. I think there’s way more to come. The archuarsenal is just beginning to leak it’s jewels.
All I know is on a personal level… I’ll support him whatever he decides… even if he never decides…I’ll be right there… trusting the archulator.
I love this article. You have hit on things I felt but couldnot explain…. I especially love this:
People feel unusually close to David because his natural state is, ironically, one of intimacy… an intimacy that I dare say he can cultivate and is comfortable with only onstage.
Yes! There is no mask, not pretentions, no acting. Watching David perform live, or seeing the vidoes ( not close) is so…. personal! And then he wonders why people all act like they know him. He shares his soul with us. That is pretty personal.
Dawn & HG — One of the topics I had started getting into in this, but decided it was getting a little long and that I would tackle it in an upcoming piece, is how easy it is to forget — especially given the depth of feeling he is able to create in people — how really young David is. I was listening to an interview on NPR over the weekend with a comedian / comedy writer who confessed that he was only just beginning to figure out who he is, and how he doesn’t feel like his personality is really fully formed yet. He’s 26.
The reason I bring this up is that with so much versatility and potential, I think David is likely to give labels fits for some time. As I’ve said before, the entertainment industry has a love-hate relationship with originality. They are at once desperate for it in order to break through the clutter, and deathly afraid of it because it is difficult to categorize and sell. So the short answer is “yes,” it is necessary — as music marketing people see it, anyway — to put not only music but artists into genre categories.
I believe David has every opportunity to create his own genre. Call it… oh, I don’t know… David Archuleta. But it’s going to take some time. There are a lot of permutations and evolutions ahead.
Rascal … #20 ..
What you said makes perfect sense. And if it wasn’t from time to time that someone actually reminds me David is only 18, it’s easy for me to bypass it. It’s the transcendence he’s so good at, that makes me need reminding at times.
Once I am reminded, it makes me realize that he has a LOT of time to do anything and everything that he wants to do. I’m sure he’ll dabble all over the place, because .. well he’s random. Never has anyone been so incredible wonderful at being random, but he is in fact random.
Now if I could quench my unquenchable thirst for whatever I can get my grubby hands on, I think I would fare much better. It’s like a double edged sword. I want him to continue this lightning fast pace he’s created, but yet I also want him to take the time he needs to put the quality he requires into his next project.
Wow .. he makes my head spin. Rome wasn’t built in a day… and I realize this, in fact I embrace it.
He always leaves me with the feeling that I don’t know what he’s going to do next, but I’m 150% sure I want in.
I digress… I’m sorry.
Dawn- 150% me too!
Rascal: When I heard that the Jive Management (whoever they are) were attending Sayreville I wondered if they normally do that or if they were “checking out” these sold out venues. Shortly after that, in Chicago, they sent a professional video crew to film his performance at the House of Blues. I know that record labels do film live concerts, but do you have any thoughts on this?
happy~happy~happy.my lil’ dwarf…”I grow pears”.??..very interesting fruit choice..is that NJ version of the poisoned apple??
rascal…I believe that we may alwaysseek to understand David perhaps more then he seeks to understand himself…There will always be magical mystery surrounding his aura. You have reflected upon his first solo tour quite fine. Bravo…
To all who know me just a little…in all sincerity, I was having a restless David day to say the least, until I got into my car and went out to lunch….If I said it was because he was mobbed then yes I would be telling the truth. I turned on the radio and there he was…ALTNOY…now hearing that in rural Nova Scotia is a little rare, so of course he made me smile…Then just now, I took myself to ebay and looked a bit longingly at the Del Mar tickets. In the shipping information, the UPS also included “my actual postal code for this small, rural town”…HOW and WHY??? I looked and thought, then looked and bought…A rather difficult day but I guess I am now going to Del Mar…Now, how do I tell my family what I just did? When would I ever have front row seats again either? It will be most interesting to be at a concert after the UK tour…What have I done?
Yes…it is a new word…alwaysseek…a change from the old version of always seek…
SB: LOL! You are in love.
Yes, David is young, and in many ways, we understand this, but what amazes so many of us is his self-awareness already! I wish I were half as self-aware at 18 as David seems to be. That’s why I’m so excited. He’s very much at the experimental stage, but he’s also very clear about the directions he’s open to and the directions he’s not.
More than anything, I’m just excited by The Voice. I know many hear like to bring up obvious musical precursors to compare David to, like Elvis or Frank Sinatra, but when I think of precursors -- when it comes to vocal talent -- my frame of reference is Billie Holiday and Ella Fitzgerald. When David talks about how Tamyra Gray awakened in him how the voice could be used for emotional gravity in music, I always want to exclaim, “Oh, honey, if you only knew!” Which I’m sure he does considering this musical epiphany occurred to him at the ripe young age of 11, I believe.
Why the vocal greats come to mind when I think of David’s growth potential is that he gets it, he just understands that level of vocal intelligence -- the inflection, the melisma, the run, how to stretch a note, how to hold back, how to kick into gear when it’s needed. Billie and Ella were masters at this kind of vocal music, so listening to an 18-year-old Mormon from Utah, who has as his cultural education the jazz and Latin music of his parents and the pop music of youth culture, David imbibes everything -- taking in what he needs and leaving out the rest.
He’s so good at improvisation, it’s uncanny. I go back to How Great Thou Art as a recent manifestation of this. His interpretation of verse is astounding. The crescendo he injects towards the end of the song matches with perfection the majesty that the lyrics recall. He’s just so…Oh!
And, to think there’s more in store!
David 4.3
I had to re-evaluate my arsenal. Ice cubes ain’t gonna cut it.
Congrats SB… I did the same thing last week. booked NYC to DelMar.. I’ll be Row 2 with Lily. Seemed crazy then but makes perfect sense now. I’m excited for you and for all who can make it. Seize the day.
SB..My sis & I will see you in Del Mar! I kinda think David doesn’t know yet that he’s going to meet us at the County Fair in Del Mar.
It’s worth it just to see David do this…
Rascal, Bravo! This is a feast and I’m taking it slow here. So many delicious morsels. I’ll start with two. (I’ll leave the pears for happy haha!)
“he could have conceivably developed an emotional wall between himself and the audience — tuned them out, as it were — in order to manage his nerves and his lack of confidence. Instead, he bravely opened himself. He shared his vulnerability.”
Ah yes, it is his vulnerability that invites us in, that captures our hearts. He smiles with such openness that you fall in love. There is that cry in his voice that just breaks your heart.
“Every note, every musical moment — and, increasingly, every move and gesture, every shoulder pump and hunker-down — feels utterly spontaneous.”
You are so right – the patter was almost word-for-word in the shows I saw (with the exception of Salt Lake), but the moves, and the melodic twists and turns, and the variations of intensity were all in-the-moment, with an intense immediacy. It is that spontaneity that keeps your eyes glued to his every move (was there a band with him? haha!) and your ears and heart attached to every note.
Rascal, it’s good to have you back.
uh-oh I forgot to add the link cuz I was too busy watching it!
lets see if it worked!
Dang!

Ok..what am I doing wrong?
marlie7…I believe it was Angelica who said…and I will AWLAYS remember it…”He restore(s)d my soul”, and that is what he does for me…I count on it…
Just for a moment let me tell you in a nut shell about the soul that needs restoring…My daughter’s many years of illness followed by the lengthy discoveries for the lawsuit, doctors were convicted of four counts of negligence, two burglaries on her house days apart before her house was intentionally burnt down…investigation going poorly…new house has had several man made mistakes yet a beautiful new home coming along…Our nerves are so ravelled that we have only to laugh left…My son who looks so much like David married a girl who has rather taken him away and they have a new baby boy five months old who I have not seen since early December…David restores my soul…there is more but this is where I still can say…haha…gotta love life and good e.friends.
SF: Hang on a second
River…silverfox…something to look forward to and to be excited about…!!
marlie7…I think that you live inside a computer, you know how to fix anything…
gahhh, I’m a little overwhelmed today. Rascal, your eloquence is … a pleasure to read… so glad you are back.
SB (((hugs))) SF, I want to know what your vid is!!!!!
I am in total David withdrawal mode. I want to be in Del Mar with SB and SF…
rascal, I honestly don’t even know how to respond. Sublime.
hg 14&28, splendiferous! (I went to my thesaurus to find another word for sublime.)
come on refnaf, you know you need to be in CA in June. come on…
SB: First, I am glad you get some relief from a long draw-out tragedy by watching and listening to David. Perhaps, even for our small daily troubles, that is why so many of us are here. He does restoreth our souls.
As for the computer part of your statement, oh, dang, is there life outside the computer? Some days I wonder. I work in IT, so I spend my days (and nights) glued to this thing. That’s why you all see me here at all times of the day -- I sneak a peek while I’m supposed to be doing something else -- email, a powerpoint presentation, a report -- all so boring and a complete distraction to my ODD.
David’s new Pacmee (twitter) message:
“Wow!!! What a welcome at the airport last night! Never expected such a big turnout! Sorry I couldn’t get to say hello to everyone … but I was really happy to see you guys! Look forward to seeing you at the showcase!!! Have a full day ahead today … will try to update as I can! “
SF’s vid is now posted -go back up and watch. I love this one!
sb, oh my, so sorry
and
, blessed be David and his fans.
refnaf…we would love you to be there toooo!! I know all about the withdrawal mode…ebay..ebay…ebay..
emmiegirl…gotta love the amazing guy…where did he come from?
SandyBeaches… I’m the one who asked you at the Belmont Hotel/SLC where you were from (cuz of the reference to ‘beaches’)… and when you told me Nova Scotia, I told you that I have been there. I’ll welcome you to our ‘beaches’, as Del Mar fairgrounds is very close to the beaches of San Diego County.
I’m glad that River decided to join me (Lily) at the Del Mar concert and get a look at our end of this continent!
Rascal ~ as always, I must read and re-read your post!
I wish someone would post that photo of David… looking up at you, Rascal. An unforgettable image!
marlie7…Work can get in the way of having fun…but you can include the fun into the work if you are clever!
hey dj 24- I built up quite an appetite reading rascal’s eloquent words…. thought I’d have a pear…. want to join me?…
GmaLil4da…I remember you now, thank you and I will be seeing your beaches the day after the concert…I had a look on the map and saw how close the beaches are…
rascal, I’m going to go back in time here, so please bare with me. When you took a break from nD, one of my first thoughts was what were we going to do without your words, wisdom and honest critiques of David’s coming solo tour. After the first concert, I wondered “What would rascal think?”, then the second, & third? David was astonishing. He was exceeding all our expectations! And I wanted so badly to hear your views. What you were thinking? If you were seeing & hearing what we were? I knew you would be honest in your reviews, even if you disagreed that he was as GOOD as we all thought. I tried to view the videos with unbiased eyes. I thought David was truly magnificent, but I love him and think he can do no wrong, so was I being biased? But everyone was blown away! He was getting better with every concert! Wasn’t he? My problem was that I needed to hear it from you. The one person who has the courage to speak the truth about David’s performances at the risk of alienating other fans, I wanted to hear you say what I and everyone else was saying. Then it would be so. And I’ve still been waiting, until now. So thank you for saying what I hoped you would say. You’re still the “Word Guru”!
happy~ Count me in~ old fruitful one
emmegirl, thank you!
Splendiferous? I like!
silverfox…Remember the times when we questioned David and how he was starting out in his career? Some of us thought that going the youth route for such an amazing Voice was ridiculous. The other day my faith was renewed in David and his decisions and I don’t think for a moment that we ever should question his career moves the way that we did. We need to be patient and see why he does what he does. He is starting with the youth who will be there for a long lifetime. Then there are the twenty something and then the aged…haha…people who are older! He is encompassing all of us, how very clever. Who else is doing that? He teaches me patience, what a virtue.
SF~ #35~you need to put the “v” after the p but before the “:” and choose the URL link ,not the embed link..
httpv://www. not>> http:v//www.
Thanks Marlie for getting the video up. The video is great..in Reno, in person he was…well you can just imagine!
Wish I could stay & play with happy & dj, but sleep beckons! A nice juicy pear sounds great about now…yummmmmy!
Good night everyone! And for David…
Dear Lord,
Please take care of David. Watch over him, protect him from all harm. Cloak him with your love and give him the strength to endure all that is thrown in his path. Give David the courage and guidance to say no to those who ask for more than he can reasonably give. Surround David with loving and supportive people who love him UNCONDITIONALLY as we, his Archangels do. Separate David from those who have agendas other than for his well being. Give him rest when he’s weary. Give him stamina to sustain his hectic pace. Give him assurance when he feels doubt. Give him joy when he feels sad. Cloak him always in your protective arms during this time on his journey. Keep David and HIS VOICE healthy & strong as he fulfills his Destiny which was written in his Book of Life before he was born.
Though we may be unworthy, we humbly pray.
Amen.
And David…Hope you’re sleeping well, eating well and are really having the time of your life!
May your journey continue to be happy, safe and all you have hoped for and deserve! May your positive and good Karma continue to attract those with positive and good Karma! May you continue to encounter goodwill and happiness! May you continue to be healthy and strong throughout your journey in Asia. Keep with you all our love, prayers and warm thoughts! We are missing you badly, and loving you madly!
silverfox…really,I always imagine that David hears you saying that wonderful prayer…life force energy travels…
Thanks for the nightly prayer, SF. It’s time for me to head to bed too, so g’nite all!
Good night…Where is the night crew? They haven’t checked in yet…
Oh well, we will leave the door open and fresh coffee was just made…
I just got the email with the link to the new site. Beautiful article as always Rascal. You really capture the magical transformation that takes place when David steps on stage. I was blessed to be standing right in front of David when he sang TBWY in Sayerville and it really felt like a sacred moment. As for his natural sensuality, I felt that in droves at the concert as well. It is so unconsciously done and just…WOW! I was a bit blown away by it, actually. I got to meet him that night before the concert at the meet and greet and he was a different person when he stepped onto the stage.
Rascal, excellent article and so much to absorb but I will try to narrow my response to one section that really resonated:
“It seems clear that even with the magnificent voice, the unerring musicality, the impeccable taste, and now the emerging skill in songwriting and stage command, we are still only scratching the surface.
The implication of still greater potential signified by David’s careful progess into his own comfort zones, his methodical embrace of his own power and of the widening world at his feet, is at once astonishing, exciting, and absolutely frightening. If David 1.0 can galvanize audiences, surprise critics, and cause such mass hysteria, spiritual epiphany, and obsessive Googling, what is in store for the world on the arrival of, say, David 4.3?”
There have been moments when I have watched David and caught a fleeting glimpse of his future potential that have struck fear in my heart. Times when I have actually said to myself, “I’m scared of that.” Why? Because I am sitting here for like the 400th consecutive night, not to mention half my workday seeking more of what I apparently can not get enough of. dawn65, you said he spoiled us…I am so spoiled I’m rotten. I positively stink. I am his stinking slave. What will I be if he reaches 4.3? Should I try to back away now, save myself while there’s still time? From the front row of the Beaumont solo tour, David 1.0 rendered me so intoxicated I couldn’t walk straight for several minutes after he exited the stage. If he ever reaches 4.3 potency__ be afraid…be very afraid.
Angelica -- So well put! Intoxicating…YES. 4.3 might kills us.
Rascal!! I simply cannot put into words how your words touched me and made me think back and reflect on where David was and where he is now. Occasionally we see a video that is sideways--that’s not David that is sideways, he’s as vertical as can be. It’s us that has been knocked over by his voice, his passion, and his moves. Oh yeah! We are the ones who are in the horizontal postion!
river #13-- I agree w/you “I can’t imagine having followed his path without these blogs.” It would have been a lonely path.
Rascal, wow. I’ve been thinking about what’s next for David. I don’t mean immediately, but in the not so distant future, say 2010. It boggles the mind the potential that he truly has. He is so talented and multifaceted at 18 just makes me so excited to see what rabbit he will pull out of his hat next.
My favorite quote?
“he can’t help it, of course, and his sensuality oozes out of him like the juice from a sweet summer pear,”
No comment, just figured I would let it sorta hang in the air….
Just registered to say that at the end of that video (accompanying this article), the still/freeze of him at the end with that smile, so open, so genuine, so David, and then the soundbite of him saying “give a hand to Kendra…” -- that just touched me and got me to tear-up…
That moment is so David, but a two-in-one…genuinely happy David & appreciative, gracious David…it was too much David for me…
Rascal -- Great article….Welcome back…I think you were really never gone.
I read and reread your article… you have hit on so many points that resonate with all I feel for David as a singer and as a rare once in a life time artist. But for me, it all comes back to that moment I first heard the “Voice”, the Voice that grabbed my soul from the moment he auditioned and had me hook, line and sinker with Shop Around. You’ve have expressed all I feel when I hear him sing, how others don’t hear what I hear makes no sense to me….
dawn65 -- David 4.3 ?
Gosh… I don’t know if the world could take it. He’s already got us thudding and gahhing and speechless at every turn.
He always leaves me with the feeling that I don’t know what he’s going to do next, but I’m 150% sure I want in.
Right now I’m worried about me taking it …. But I’m with you 150% in for the ride.
Sandybeaches -- A rather difficult day but I guess I am now going to Del Mar…Now, how do I tell my family what I just did? When would I ever have front row seats again either? It will be most interesting to be at a concert after the UK tour…What have I done?
Crazy… I haven’t told my family yet… I purchased the tickets the first day of the presale… waiting for the right time to tell them without me sounding crazy… David made me do it
Juliebug -- I had to re-evaluate my arsenal. Ice cubes ain’t gonna cut it….. an iceberg…lol that might do it!
Angelica -- There have been moments when I have watched David and caught a fleeting glimpse of his future potential that have struck fear in my heart. Times when I have actually said to myself, “I’m scared of that.” Why? Because I am sitting here for like the 400th consecutive night, not to mention half my workday seeking more of what I apparently can not get enough of. dawn65, you said he spoiled us…I am so spoiled I’m rotten. From the front row of the Beaumont solo tour, David 1.0 rendered me so intoxicated I couldn’t walk straight for several minutes after he exited the stage. If he ever reaches 4.3 potency__ be afraid…be very afraid.
You’ve described me to a tee …. Has it been 400 nights? I’ve lost track….stink? so that’s what the smell is….me….I’ve tried to back away, I can’t….he owns me. … I couldn’t walk or breathe after Pomona… 4.3? What’s going to happen to me? Sorry for my nonsense…it’s been a day.
Rascal, one more morsel. The photos you’ve chosen capture the yearning, the intensity and the joyful grin of our beloved guy. Great choices!
One thing…am I the only one for whom the video doesn’t work?
Reading this article I realise how much I had missed them -- your words, insights and clarity.
‘The implication of still greater potential signified by David’s careful progress into his own comfort zones,… is at once astonishing, exciting, and absolutely frightening.’
Yikes! I’m scared already. I’ll have to quit my job and declare myself insane.
‘People feel unusually close to David because his natural state is, ironically, one of intimacy… an intimacy that I dare say he can cultivate and is comfortable with only onstage’.
This part made my heart sink. But then I guess all extremely talented people are on their own -- their inner life can’t be shared. I do hope he can eventually find someone he can be himself with and connect, and trust.
The part when you say something about his voice pierces through emotional barriers and cynicism is awesomely beautiful and true.
What am I doing? Nothing can possibly add to this article.
Thanks for sharing your gift, Rascal!

This guy is twittering David’s visit to the school that won the contest in KL. Right now he’s been delayed by 30 minutes. The reporter was himself delayed for a bit due to a traffic jam. Suspect David is in the same predicament.
Awww! They were fooling, He’s not delayed and had arrived! yay!

After David forgot the lyrics to WCWIO last year, I was a nervous wreck every time he took the stage. After this tour, I will never worry abot David again. He absolutely “owned” the stage, the audience, and every town he was in. Every performance was exponentially better than the last one, and he took an unknown song, Zero Gravity, and made it a cult classic in dire need of immediate release.
He has become an international sensation faster than a “Keystone Cop” movie, and now travels half way around the world with nary a parent in sight.
I love the way interviewers in Asia are respectful of David, and allow him to take as much time as he wants to complete his answer, which for David, can be a while.
David has, indeed, just scratched the surface of what he will become, and what a surface it has been so far. Expect much, much more, and expect it very soon.
Julie!
Haha

“After David forgot the lyrics to WCWIO last year, I was a nervous wreck every time he took the stage. After this tour, I will never worry abot David again. ”
There a s0me videos I can not watch. WCWIO is top of the list. I always skip that part of my recording of that Ai7 show. I wince and cringe. I can’t get to the FF button fast enough. I was concerned so much that night that he would be voted off for that mistake. Thank the heavens we fans are a forgiving lot.
Ok off to bed for me. I actually have a job at 9 am LOL
Abrra the overtired rambling spammer
I forgot to mention that the picture of David “reaching out” here is actually hard to look at. The combination of his inner and external beauty is absolutely blinding.
We got a glimpse of the “sexy” David on this tour. His next tour will be rated on the Richter Scale
Rascal, it is positively DIVINE to have a such a SPLENDID full course Rascal post. There’s so much in it, I can’t even begin to articulate.
David alpha, David beta and David 1.0 have destroyed my kneecaps, spine, hair, and cardiopulmonary stability. Never mind David 4.3— I’m quaking in my lil booties just anticipating David 1.01. I have been saying for over a year we’ve only seen the tip of the iceberg…
…which reminds me… Juliebug, #29, lmao! Now there’s the right tool for the job right there.
SF, #33, so glad you are enjoying the reno wfm merry-go-round. (I KNEW I shoulda installed seat belts on that thing. lol)
HG & emmiegirl, sublime, slpendiferous… and I might add beaudacious!
HG, I am so with you on your Ella and Billie Holiday references.
Somebody had mentioned that David emulates his musical heroes. I don’t think David tries to emulate Cassidy, or any of his other musical inspirations. I think he comprehends and appreciates them one zillion %, is in awe of them, even, and is thrilled and definitely inspired to the bone by their works. He gets high on their powers, their gifts— which speak directly to him. (They make HIM understand!
) But I feel strongly that he emulates nobody. He may have done some of that in his “little David” days when he was developing his outrageous skills. But today, he is David. And they broke the mold—or rather HE broke the mold..no, he burned straight through it.
Definition of mold: “a hollow container used to give shape to molten or hot liquid material …” Yeah, baby, that’s what I’M talkin’ about. Jump back, MOLD. David has arrived.
Bliss: “Richter Scale” <-- YES!
rascal -- though I’ve rarely commented on your blogs (itimidated by your gift of words, insight of reality and how you express it all), this one has so much meaning for me. “David Archuleta is immensely powerful……. because he invites you to listen and not just hear; to participate with your heart and not just your senses; to realize that music is not a broadcast but a communication.”
Being caught up in ODD sometimes obliterates what the attraction to the VOICE is. Having gone through a very difficult time this past month, the only sense of relief was listening to (hearing) Dont Let Go on repeat (which I couldn’t understand why, since it was never a favorite before the solo tour). As I was struggling to keep it together one night, the music did communicate to me. By actually listening to the lyrics that reached deep inside and touched my heart I found solace in the fear and pain I was feeling. Now I know better than to just hear and watch David perform a song. Your insight into what is real and meaningful has been instructive and helpful for those not totally understanding this ODD. Thanks for this wonderful read (I did READ it).
bliss79 -- the pic affected me too. So much so that it is now my screen saver. Keep wanting to reach & touch his hand everytime I see it.
beebee80 -- soooo funny. You are our comedic relief. Love it!!
I don’t know why, but I think this kind of thing is terribly sweet and utterly hilarious — I know he’s getting used to it, but I also think there’s a part of him that’s still, “whaaa…?? What’s all this for? Oh, yeah — me….”
Good morning everyone!
Oh my heck, Rascal, in that video did I just see David run back once the crowd started screaming? I thought I glimpsed him shrinking away (remember he had done this the first time his limo arrived for his homecoming back to Utah?).
Yep, I guess he’s still getting used to the adulation, now on a world scale.
I think it was SF who said a while back that David knows what he’s doing on stage, but he just doesn’t know why it works! I guess he’s still adjusting to the fact that he can and will make the girls (and women) scream wherever he goes. haha!
Rascal!!! Speechless. I was in the middle of your article last night, got interrupted to handle some mom duties. All night in my sleep I was thinking about it. And finally I got up at 4am to finish reading it, and then re read it….. It was so worth it. I think I would be reading it and thinking about it again and again. What a wonderful recap and projection into the future, that is the sharing of his artistry and love by Mr. David Archuleta. Your whole passage, every paragraph, every sentence, every word…. reaffirmed my current feeling and positioned me to dream for what will become of David.
dfafan, I wish I did what you did. SB, I envy you! and hugs. I had taken some heat from my kids for “ditching” them to go to the SLC concert. Now I really want to go to Del Mar, that it is right after the UK tour, that school has ended by that time, that it is on a Friday…. But I guess the good seats are gone. Why wasn’t I more decisive?
This is an amazing and fun house with Rascal and the team of talents working selflessly so that we can have a great time sharing here. As for David, he so deserves our love. Just watched his videos and read his messages from Asia (again). Goofy grins. Mine.
Video on Rascal #84,
Is there any doubt that David is one of the two most beloved Americans in the world right now? The other one is the President of the United States, and David is just a high school kid!! The power of the universal language of music is truly amazing. No wonder Obama gave the Queen an ipod. Now somebody please give Kim Jong II of North Korea and Mahmoud Ahmadinejad of Iran an ipod too. Maybe we will finally have world peace. lol
peruu..The Del Mar gig is on a Saturday, June 20th. And just an FYI..Cook is appearing there on the 18th. Wonder if Cook will stick around for David’s show?
One thing we have to remember is the Del Mar concert is only one of what I hope will be many venues for David’s Summer Tour series. There will me more concerts which may be easier for many of David’s fans to attend. So if Del Mar is too far, or not a good time, there will be others…like in Canada, Florida, Colorado, Oregon or Washington state, and New York again. If not a summer tour, then in the fall. Just a feeling. And like I said, David may not even be aware of Del Mar or plans for a summer tour yet. He’s more concerned with “the now” and especially the UK, which IMHO, will really be the launching pad for his skyrocket to world wide fame. He is not there yet, but if he is as well received in the UK as he was in Asia & will be in the Philippines, he will have “arrived”. IMHO.
Morning all, just love reading everyone’s thoughts.
beebee, you kill me.

A lovely new ehome

Not just brownies, Happy is now offering pears
SB took the plunge and is going to Del Mar

Rascal, HG, Angelica, Beebee,…oh my heck! Too many descriptive and eloquent writers on this blog. If only I was able to be so good…my English teacher would give me an A!
I used to be intimidated to show-up here and try to respond with clarity and judgement and criteria! Ha ha it never worked. But, alas who cares? I come here for the fun and knowledge that we all have the deepest respect and heart-tuggin’ love for The Archulator!
Nicely said jackryan4da! Woot, SB is going to Del Mar!
I’m off to work and 25 min. of listening to beebee’s WFM merry go round, love it!
bliss, welcome back. If Jive releases ZG by anyone but David, I’m not buying it.
beebee. You so crazy!
NEW VLOG !!!
Beautiful saying. I particularly love the last paragraph, because I always wonder David expresses himself better in singing, he is so honest and opened. It’s not easy to move others by singing, not that easy, of course David is gifted, but he also pours himself 150% into the song.
I love ZG, must have to say, if it was the song leaked in the early day, I have no doubt vote this as his next single. However, I am not feeling sorry the song is not included, for a very strange reason. From WFM to SOT to ZG, the songs in CD are marketably correct, but our David, is far beyond what “standard” market expected.
(aka MYYK)
Rascal, always enjoy your articles.
Now you have put into words the cause of why I feel very emotional whenever I listen to certain songs by David, in particular Smoky Mountain Memories. As you say in this article, its the VOICE:
“For many people, there is an unmistakable tone, a timbre, a frequency of some kind that David produces which, at certain moments, pierces through every emotional barrier, every cynical thought, and touches a place of deep and abiding tenderness, that universal point of perspective where sadness and joy become one, and the great fullness of wise recognition, the great surges of profound understanding, overflow and become tears.”
Thank you.
#94 -- Wow, he seems both really happy and really relaxed.
I loved him telling us about how he usually runs the shower and steams up his room to the point of setting of the fire alarm! LOL! At least now he doesn’t have to do that. He’s funny, adorable, and yes, he seems very happy and relaxed.
I had a thought watching David’s Vlog # 94. David is is not only becoming an international singing star, he is also becoming an international good will ambassador. He shows up, spreads his friendship and signature warmth, and leaves every place he goes better than when he arrived. The more confident he becomes, the more he gives, and his supply of goodness is limitless. That great prophet, Paula Abdul, saw it early on when she declared “You’re a gem, for the whole world to see. I can’t wait” Well, she didn’t have to wait long, did she, and, fortunately, neither did the world.
Has anyone posted them yet?
1. David’s Vblog from Malaysia
2. David being mobbed at KL airport -- mass hysteria in the first few minutes.
The vblog reminds me of his vblog from Pittsburgh (or as he would say, Picksburg) — amazingly,he seems as at home and comfortable in Kuala Lumpur. The world is his oyster — as Bliss put it: He shows up, spreads his friendship and signature warmth, and leaves every place he goes better than when he arrives — be it Pittsburgh or Kuala Lumkpur!
peruu -- I wish I did what you did.
I had such regret about not attending the last SLC concert, I decided then that if it’s within a reason, (my definition of reason, not my families) I’m not going to hesitate.
Angelica -- bliss, welcome back. If Jive releases ZG by anyone but David, I’m not buying it.
I’m not either!
His VLOG! He’s so … happy… what a great experience for him!
Rascal, I’ve re-read your article several times and as SF says, you are the word guru, hearing your “voice” again, is marvelous.
This hit me…”David Archuleta is immensely powerful not because he is now becoming a pro at leading a crowd or commanding a stage, or even because of a nascent sensuality that is slowly extending itself, but because he invites you to listen and not just hear; to participate with your heart and not just your senses; to realize that music is not a broadcast but a communication.”
What kills me is that he can through the tone, timbre, frequency, the actual sound of his voice communicate over and over again through the SAME SONG. Not only the different tour versions, which each have their own nuances, but even his recorded voice, can move me…every time. That is definately communication of a very special kind.
At this rate, David’s next concert will be in Mecca.
As for ZG, having anyone else release it would be like Eddie Fisher releasing “Hound Dog” instead of Elvis. It just cannot happen.
Rascal, thank you so much for taking the time and effort to write such a superb feature article.
“Most performers who find early success…don’t tend to evolve much beyond their initial scope of skills…the sum and substance of their appeal doesn’t usually evolve in a fundamental way.”
Amen to that. Their longevity, if any, seemingly depends on the layering (or should I say “lathering”) of “production” to their “performance” -- while their artistry, fundamental at best, lanquishes in a state of arrested development. Window dressing for the easily distracted.
David offers so much more and then some…thus, it is truly fair and just to describe David as INCOMPARABLE. Your words do him justice and reflect the thoughts that many, if not all, of us share, but are not nearly as capable as you to adequately articulate.
Oh My Gosh…

juliebug -- Oh My Gosh…
What the heck…I don’t know why this gave me the chills… this is beyond cute… my thoughts are all over the place… now I’m teary… why?
Thanks SF, for clarifying. Hopefully there would be a show in Northern California in summer, so I can bring the whole family with me. Hubby said he would go to a David’s concert if it is local.
YJfanofdavid, me too, I see a lot of similar qualities between President Obama and David. The way they got into the world scene carrying their unwavering positive messages of hope or love is so inspiring to the world, IMHO.
Rascal, I really see David in you. The “on stage and off stage” stuff. In your articles you are mostly serious, eloquent, and analytical to the dime. In comments, you are random and goofy. Latest example, #84. Maybe you become another person too, when you get on your stage. LOL
Dear friends, thank you for your thoughts…djafan..jackryan4da…emmiegirl…This is the morning after…the morning after I finally broke down and threw caution to the wind!!!
Del Mar…but I have reasons…haha…
A short story relating to “why we throw caution to the wind sometimes”, and why we act on the given moments..
Several years ago now, we met a few of the most famous NHL hockey players in a Boston hotel while we were there for a playoff hockey game. They were ever so kind at breakfast one morning especially because our young son was there. They invited us to their practice that day, then their “before game private lunch”. After the friendship developed we were invited by one of the players especially to come to Edmonton for the final games..we went and the occasions continued and we had the time of our lives…
Last night I went to ebay and looked at the tickets for Del Mar…the tickets that I had been eyeing were gone. I had emailed the seller the other day and asked a question in regards to shipping. Last night there were two more, front row center…and honestly on the listing for the tickets he had listed my postal code “only” in Canada. What was that all about? Well, I bought them because I just don’t know when and where David will be singing in the future or if I can be there…the when is more important I guess…his music is powerful and heck I want to see SF and her sister and everyone else who will be there…and a day at the beach!
peruu…dear peruu…let me not guide you astray but go when you can with your daughter. There was a teacher who taught with me many years ago who said to me, “look at your children, be with them, because you will turn around and they will soon be gone”…I retired from teaching, I listened, I was with them often and everywhere and then I turned around and they were gone…no regrets. Take what tickets you can and have fun there. In my case I would only go across country for the second time so soon for front row seats…
Juliebug #106
Oh My Gosh from me too! They are really loving him there! Cute Cute.
What kind of shoes was David wearing?
Back to work.
In regards to tours in the summer..aren’t most venues booked up by now? Maybe some news will be releaed soon…
peruu…I didn’t see your last post before I did mine…
Thanks SB. Once a teacher, always a teacher- wise and caring. I think my little one would WANT to go. Could be a fun day, actually…. let me see…
Ok, this time for real, back to work.
juliebug #106: What an ambassador for peace and cultural exchange. To don the native garb even if he looks a tad uncomfortable. David knows how to show his respect for other cultures. He’s just a peacemaker, no doubt about it.
Folks, the video links ONLY work with YouTube and ONLY on a link to an actual video… If you are linking to a page on some other web site with a YouTube video already embedded on it, that will not work — you need to click over to YouTube itself and get the direct YouTube link.
Thank you admin!
peruu -- I’m with Angelica… I’ve confessed to my daughter, she and my granddaughter will be going with me…. I’ll tell the rest later…lol
I’m happy to see that Z100 in the US is talking about David’s impact in Asia. What terrific “buzz” for him!
Oh my. Savoring your words, rascal. So delighted to see you back! SB should donate her gravatar to you! lol
And speaking of…
SB!!! Del Mar FTW!!! That is so awesome, what an odyssesy you are making. Or shall we spell it ODDyssey?! See you there--I hope--I have tix too.
Rascal -- I don’t think I realized how much I missed you until now. Gosh. As I’ve said before, and shall reiterate now, you are to the written word what David -- the Voice -- is to singing. You have this innate talent for expressing so eloquently the way I feel about David, but am unable to vocalize myself. Bravo!
I have watched (repeatedly) the many clips of David’s concert tour with both envy and awe. (Envy at those able to attend, as I was not.) And awe at how much he has progressed over the months. It almost seems as it should be much more than a year since we saw him perform weekly on AI. And to think of his immense potential for the future boggles my mind. But at the end of the day, it really is all about “The Voice”.
juliebug . April 9, 2009 at 12:16 pm .
Just when you thought he could not get any more handsome. That green costume! I wonder if he has street clothes on underneath?
He looks so good in anything.
Abrra
OK. Now I’m not only grinning the whole time I watch his vlog, (as you do), but have now begun to talk back to him. lol! He is just so open and accessible, like he’s sitting right there talking to YOU. When he says he liked the spicy Singapore dish, and the airport was crazy, I reply, I know, I saw you! When he says he loves the rain and humidity, I do a thumbs up and go, yeah, humidity ftw! Who else waves back at him when he signs off? I know I can’t be the only one who has always done that.
I wonder how many room humidifiers he’s gonna be gifted now?
highervibe…I love the Phoenix…rising from the ashes…so bold and beautiful/handsome…A stained glass designer has begun making it for my daughter’s new front mahogany door…it will be rising from the ashes of her fire…
I have a new gravatar in the works…related to David of course.
Am I crazy…Del Mar??? The jury is still out on that…
ODDYssey is the correct spelling in this case…yesterday I declared to myself while driving that I have OCDD…that needed medication…I fixed that up last night.
Really though in reality and not to be flighty and going at the drop of a hat anywhere…I have been very confined for a very long time and now I am able to squeak out a few days for travel…and walk on a new beach.
Angelica…You talk to him? You wave to him? Thumbs up? Oh no…you may have started something…The images you created made me grin from ear to ear!!
I “am” crazy…and I did not write that TWICE…!!
OK, SO MY COMPUTER IS PLAYING TRICKS ON ME AND I HAVE TO REFRESH TO OMIT EXTRA LINES…I really should go now!!!
Vintage Rascal, woot! Welcome back, mon vieux! Soooo much to catch up on and I’m loving it!
Marlie7 & juliebug: “What an ambassador for peace and cultural exchange. To don the native garb even if he looks a tad uncomfortable. David knows how to show his respect for other cultures. He’s just a peacemaker, no doubt about it.” So true.
When I first saw that pic, I thought, “too adorkable” then the words “Nobel Peace Prize” popped into my head. I keep alternating between wanting to pinch his cheeks and giving him the “I’m not worthy” bow. lol
Vlog #94: love the hat on crooked haha! Chicken rice, humid weather, no fear of setting off the fire alarm. Great to see him so relaxed and having such fun!
haha! The hat was meant for Jeff. David has confiscated it. haha!
See Jolene’s story here http://archuletavenue.wordpress.com/
Lot’s of good stuff at that link
Saw this report over at FOD from a someone at the school visit:
… Many of the boys were Cook fans but were gushing over David by the end of school day. Most of the CDs were bought by these new fans. How cool is that?
And David had to use the washroom. He met a cleaning lady, extended a handshake, asked for her name and said thanks for keeping the school clean for everyone. That’s David. No one was around at that time, so he was not putting on some act. The cleaning lady told some staff about it.
David was so gracious and accommodating. Willingly signed autographs even though the sponsors said he wouldn’t have time.
Ray said David loves the warm weather and does not mind the humidity. Said it’s good for his voice and that’s why he’s sounding so good in his performances here…
And you know where else is super humid in summer, David? Toronto
hahhah TOfan, we’ll get him here somehow…
Listen to the female DJ after he sings….”I’ve gone all red!”
LOL….yeah, we’ve been there, done that!
ZG x 4!
Wow, his vlog is full of win!
No matter where he is, he’s just taking it all in stride.
I think he’d be a really cool friend to travel with. He’s open and so content and relaxed enough to take in all new adventures.
How could you not love him? (yeah, I know, there are those who don’t -- but I’m sure those folks have yet to tune in to a David Archuleta vlog).
HA!

These videos out of Malaysia are just insane. The love for David Archuleta knows no Barriers – national, linguistic, cultural, or religious. His goodness and charm oozes out of him and he drives everyone mad wherever he goes ! Just wow!
Talk about good will ambassador --
Today is Lupe’s bithday…according to David Archuleta Fan Scene. I haven’t seen David’s vlog, so I don’t really know what he said. Did he mention his mom’s birthday? ( She’s way too young not to want to have her birthday mentioned.
)
He didn’t mention it SF. I am sure ha called her. I just know it
Abrra
Love love love having you writing about David again!
Some more buzz about the airport…
http://klue.com.my/articles/1674-David-Archuletas-Malaysian-fans-go-mad
Abrra -- I needed a Facebook acocount to view, now I have one…and a myspace one too…. all for David…lol
#141 -- Some of the best things about the article are some of the comments. Here are a few:
“palak14 said:
David is now a World Idol! It is refreshing to see someone as prodigiously talented as he is recieve this kind of honor and recognition. His personality and kind spirit are much needed in a jaded and cynical world. Can’t wait to hear David sing at the showcase -- I wish much happiness and success for this gifted young man.”
and…
“Joe said:
He is becoming an international SUPERSTAR !!! The world needs more people like him. Pure talent with the clean, humble wholesome image. His short performance in Singapore drew thousands of people. He should have come to Korea(my mom’s country), Japan, Indonesia and many countries. As someone said in his blog, he is the new ‘COOL’. The image of superstars, that you should be ‘bad’ to be famous, should change. How refreshing.”
Yep, he’s the NEW COOL!
Am doing a quick drive-by while I am out of town. Love it all.
Back to lurkdom.
In trying to explain my fascination with David to a friend, it occurred to me that David is like a great book to me. You know, the kind of book that has you so completely engrossed that you stay awake until 4:00 in the morning, bleary-eyed, half-nodding, hovering under the lamplight because you simply can’t put it down.
That’s the way David has been for me. From the very first time I saw him, he has captivated me. He has been a “suspense”, a “mystery”, an “adventure” and a “thriller”.
I can’t wait to turn the page to see what happens next and I can’t stop reading because I’m afraid I’ll miss something…
OH my gosh.. I know I’m late..but I just got home.. how about him in that Baju Melayu…
He’s just beautiful.
and the look on his face.. priceless.
he was not embarrassed at all…it was like Christmas…he looked SO proud.
There isn’t another 18 year old on the face of the planet that could take all the bullrush of attention with such dignity and grace.
He is a continuous source of amazement and awe for me.
Dear David.. I am just bursting at the seams with love for ya.
dawn65 -- When I saw those pictures I was overwhelmed to the point of tears, he doesn’t look embarrassed to me either….Prince David comes to mind now.
joner -- I can’t wait to turn the page to see what happens next and I can’t stop reading because I’m afraid I’ll miss something…
This is perfect, it’s a never ending novel… I actually used to get consumed by books, now I don’t have time to open one up. David is my novel. Great explanation… I’ll have to use that one.
joner 145,
I love your explanation of David as a good book. Like a series. Like a, IDK, a David Chronicle? haha. But you left out comedy.
“One of the few experiences that can bring us to this place in a veritable instant is great art”
Rascal- Your words beautifully capture what I feel when I listen to The Voice, and that performance of tbwy is breathtaking.
I remember when I first discovered your site. I delurked and quoted one of my favorite writers, Osho. It was about how a true artist becomes like a hollow bamboo, a vessel where great art flows through.
Whenever it’s just David, singing at a piano or accompanied by a simple acoustic guitar, I get that feeling, like he becomes that hollow bamboo, and it flows from within him and through him. It’s so beautiful and pure.
On a sidenote, at first I was kind of bummed that David might be singing tbwy on AI, instead of a more upbeat number that would show his growing performance skills.
But he has grown so much this past year; he is now young man on the verge of stardom. I think him alone at the piano, singing a song like that, could be 4 minutes of pure brilliance.
Random --
I took the afternoon off work today and ran my mom around on some errands. We stopped for an early dinner. We’re sitting there waiting for our meal and listening to the music playing overhead. What comes on? Cook’s “Light On”.
Oooookay……Well, I live in Kansas City, so what do you expect? Home town boy and all.
Guess what the next two songs were? No lie. Back to back. “You Gotta Be” and then “Love Song”.
Bwahahahaha! Not our David, of course…but still kinda spooky when you think about it.
joner! What a perfect description, David as a book, his story unfolding right before us. This chapter has been so heart stopping, watching him taking on Asia, right from his arrival at the airport to the mesmerizing pic of him in the traditional outfit.
Hey everyone! Have you seen these latest pics from the Hannah Montana episode? David is going to be on the show Sunday, May 3.
http://justjaredjr.buzznet.com/2009/04/09/david-archuleta-hannah-montana-2/
I cannot believe I will actually be tuning in to a Hannah Montana episode (say it with me now: “the things I do for David”) but David cannot get on my TV soon enough.
I just got home after a long day at work. It was horrible not being able to access any videos! I couldn’t see David’s Vlog and I’ve been yearning for one..well, since the last one!
So let me get this straight…David thought it was exciting to see so many people greet him at the airport? And he liked it? And here we thought we were being considerate by not being at the airports to say Adios when he’s leaving or HI! when arriving at any city. Maybe he should have put the word “scary” in there instead of “exciting”.
Now I can’t WAIT til David comes home from his overseas adventures cuz now that his fans here know he “likes” being greeted by hundreds of crazy fans, we can’t disappoint him now, can we? (well, not me, but his younger, crazier fans!).
I also wanted to say something about Jive releasing ZG. If they do the smart thing and release it by David, I do hope they don’t use the studio cut version. It’s good, but doesn’t have the same energy, intensity, excitement and fun that we loved in David’s live performances of ZG. Especially the ending! Whew! It will be a monster hit if he is given the chance to re-record it. I’m not worried it will be recorded & released by someone else, but even it that were to happen, (zero chance!), David would still get royalties as a co-writer with Mike.
Joner..Yes! Following David IS like reading a GREAT book! You are so right! OHG! It’s a perfect explanation, especially since I LOVE to read, and used to read 2-3 books every week. I haven’t picked up a good book since David came into my life! I just don’t have time. I want to, but nothing interests me enough to make time…uh, David or a new book? No contest!
David’s visit overseas is heightening the awareness of David more then I could have imagined. To see him at the school and see the respect that he has been shown is incredible and humbling. They love everything about him. We know that he has been in our midst for the last several months but to see the same adoration shown by people who have not actually seen him or have close contact with him in city after city, is beyond any possible expectations.
Dawn 146- you said exactly what I was thinking when I looked at those beautiful photos of David in native garb. So peaceful and elegant. I tried to imagine another teen idol who would consider donning that outfit and acting in this sincere manner which is gathering throngs of new fans. He’s just more amazing every day.
Found this on David Archuleta’s official page. This list is huge and you can tell it had a lot of teen input but much of it is disturbingly so true. I’ll just post a few.
http://davidarchuletanetwork.ning.com/forum/topics/you-know-youre-obsessed-with
You know you’re obsessed with David if:
you have done something creative inspired by David (ie drawings, songs, poetry, stories, etc)
you smile when David smiles, laugh when David laughs, and cry when David cries.
-the only thing you need to do when you’re sad is listen to David’s album and you’re 100% happy again.
you’ve started wearing scarves more often.
-you’ve started licking your lips.
-you’ve started saying ‘gosh’ and ‘dang’ more.
-when you’re making a hard decision, you just think, “What would David do?” and you know exactly what you should do.
you’ve made yourself look like an idiot because you know it will help him. You have no dignity left. (Prerana)
-You HAVE (!!) to check David’s myspace, youtube, DA.com, fanblast, snarkys, FOD, the street team, angels for a cause, or other fan websites of you choice as soon as you wake up. You check these before you check your email, start working, or do other less-important-than-David things. (Anushka)
And my favorite-
-you’re boyfriend or husband has said “it’s either me or David”…
-sometimes you miss them
“And my favorite-
”
-you’re boyfriend or husband has said “it’s either me or David”…
-sometimes you miss them
BWAHAHAHA!!!
Thanks for sharing, Angelica. I love this list. I pretty much checked off on 6 out of 10 of these.
I noticed nothing was said of having 12 dreams about David (not that I needed to confirm my ODD but just saying).
Angelica #156 My husband is much more pragmatic than that…recently my oldest son was home and we were up late talking. My husband finally stood up and siad he had to get to bed. My oldest son teased him about getting old and my husband’s reply was, “Well, I’ve got to get a lot of rest to keep up with David.”
Well dang it, I checked off every single one except having no dignity left, but I’m working on that.
Angelica…that is scary, really…perhaps I can say shocking…my score..6..or more.
I started a David puzzle a short time ago that was to find all of the pieces that would tell in full view when finished what has possessed us I guess. I thought that I had the puzzle completed with the final piece found by you…”He restored my soul”…
But, there is more to this then I thought and it is not complete and probably will not be now for a few more years.
SNIPPET COMPOSER
SB, (#160) … that soon?
River (#155) Oh, my HECK, David dressed in the native garb is just too MUCH. Yes, it was just so striking in those photos his sweet and generous spirit, so peaceful and elegant.” Perfectly put. I am so thrilled at the tremendous outpouring of love David is receiving in Asia. It makes my heart burst with pure joy.
And SF (#153) “David or a new book? No contest!” I’m pretty much right there with ya. (I tell people I’m in the middle of this one book. Only problem is, I’ve been in the middle of it for over a year…)
Angelica, (#122) so…you talk to his v blogs, do ya? lol. You’re not alone.
Does that make us c.r.a.a.a.a.z.y…?
(And, boy, I’d love to hear David resurrect that one. WOTWTC, too, while I’m at it. Prolly not gonna happen… but I still wish it.)
marlie7…yes, “David” is used here like a household name. My husband sat down by me a few minutes ago and asked…”So, how is David doing overseas today?” This David person is like a best friend or a family member who is spoken about with great familiarity.
David is on the radio now getting interviewed. Listen live here (in between songs):
http://www.hitz.fm/onair/morningcrew/photo.asp?i=62&whichpage=1&kImg=396#kView
Interview is over but man did he sound great! Talked about some of the challenges of recording Crush and Running. I’m sure someone will post the interview soon.
My score is 7..but I didn’t have a “significant other” when David came into my life and took me hostage, otherwise it would be 8!
Of course, my dignity does suffer somewhat when I detect snickers as I’m gushing about David to strangers which I do maybe more than I should! So maybe my score IS 8!! OMG!
HG..and the dreams..well we won’t talk about “the dreams”.
Hi friends!
Amen to this comment Bliss:
As for ZG, having anyone else release it would be like Eddie Fisher releasing “Hound Dog” instead of Elvis. It just cannot happen.
I go to work for a day and miss a VLOG, tons of interviews, pictures and new videos. Don’t you love how David starts his Vlogs with “David here” or
“It’s David”….like?? we may not know who he is. What a trip.
I love the comparison to David as a book because I have often felt like this is a wonderful, funny, articulate book club!
beebee,
Thanks for the Crazy video. I had to watch that 3 times to get enough. I can see him doing stuff like this in the future, hauntingly beautiful songs he writes himself and accompanies himself on the piano to. Watch his face every time he sings the word crazy. I’m getting that scared feeling again.
From the Hitz Now interview. I got this from Snarkies who got it from Archuleta Avenue Malaysia.
Question: Hardest song to learn?
Running was really hard. I recorded the first part of the song and then the doubles where I sang the same part over and over to give it a thick sound. And then I sang the harmony parts and then the system crashed. It was so hard to sing. It was so high and I didn’t know if my voice would do it. The producer was freaking out because it was so much work. But it was okay, okay because I can do it better because I’ve gotten the hang of it. Crush was hard, too, because of the falsetto. *sings* I could not do that, I could not do that at the time. It took me an hour to get that. And now it’s cool to see how much I’ve improved because before it took me like 300 times to get it right.
Interesting hearing about all the work and struggles he’s overcome. Why can’t the US djs ask him these kind of questions? I think the people from Asia get him and respect him as an artist more.
I agree Angelica, their interviewers make ours look totally inept!
Was watching both the videos of that Crazy performance, (amazing!), and in the comments they were talking about most of David’s high count vids are disappearing off of youtube. I had noticed that too. Apparently his Heaven was at 1.4 million and it has now disappeared, among many others. Is this because AI has the rights and they are responsible for them being pulled?
Angelica: You are so right. The interviews are so much better. No dumb jokes, or same ole/same ole gf question- ugg.
One of David’s on-line “fan/friends” told me that David was huge in Malasia- bigger than in the US. They even play other songs from his CD such as TMH. I can see that she was right.
Cannot wait to see the reaction in England. And so it goes!
This is nuts! It’s almost 11 AM, Friday where David is and here I am posting the prayer for him and his wellbeing. I guess it doesn’t matter when we pray for him or send him our good thoughts & love, as long as we do so every day! Especially, since he knows about our prayer and that it’s posted every day. Yes, he does know about it, for those who have wondered.
We are missing you badly, and loving you madly forever and always!

I can’t wait for him to come to Manila!
this is what my daughter wrote on her FaceBook after the mini-concert which I bought her ( and she is a non-fan) -
“OMGOMGOMGOMG ! DAVID ARCHULETA CONCERT WAS AWESOMEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE !
♥ David Archuleta (be proud mummy ;D).”
My photos are up to

junnie4DJA — terrific photos; you must have been really close. Thx for sharing and glad your daughter enjoyed the concert too!

I don’t know. Because he flopped in the U.S., and they thought- hey, lets ship him over there and see what happens?
ROTFLMAO!! Can’t breathe….
I can think of PLENTY artists with David’s accomplishments in one year’s time WISHING they could “flop” so well…. Whatever gets you through the night, it’s all right, it’s all right….. (words by J. Lennon)
Back to ROTFLMAO!

I hope he looks in the mirror before they start the photo shoot and wipes some away.

^i´m back from the intend of my friends to tone down my obssesion with Archie…. needless to said they failed big time ;D my ODD got worse after seeing him LIVE
Rascal, how wonderfully in with words, pictures, and video you capture the essence of David, or at least David 1.0. One statement that particularly stood out to me:
“David Archuleta is immensely powerful not because he is now becoming a pro at leading a crowd or commanding a stage, or even because of a nascent sensuality that is slowly extending itself, but because he invites you to listen and not just hear; to participate with your heart and not just your senses; to realize that music is not a broadcast but a communication.”
David has a way of making you feel as though you’re as much a part of why he’s on the stage doing what he loves. At the Reno show my daughter and I were in the mosh pit to David’s right (I studied the earlier vids and he seem to always go to that side most often). I don’t remember what he was sing, but when he came to our side, we made eye contact and though it was only a brief moment, it seemed like time stood still. I felt like wow, he made me feel apart of all that was taking place that night. As though he was saying,”Yes, you belong here too”.
And what’s even funnier, is that my daughter said he made eye contact with her too and that his eyes are so intense. I wonder if that is what the director of the ALTNOY video means when he said that a lot is going on behind David’s eyes.
jackryan4da 174: Thx for the photo links. From what I’ve read, the Manila tickets are really selling.
djafan 179: I hope so too. On the plus side, he looks great in purple.
junnie4DJA 178: I just don’t get some of the posters at MJs. With the economy the way it is, BMG/Sony would not spend money to promote a “flop” in two other countries.
Hey everyone! I’m supposed to be working on tax returns now, but I just wanted to say how much I miss everyone! I’ve been checking out this new site briefly here and there “on the sly” but I just had to see if I could log on!
See you all after April 15th!
junnie #180 -- loved your video. David is just bursting with joy and the audience is crazy with happiness. That had to be a fabulous experience for you and your daughter!

junnie, the person that made the “flop” comment once posted that during AI7 she thought that David was cute and mentioned it to her friends and their reply was ,basically, yeah if you are 8 years old. And ever since she seems to go out of her way to diss David,I guess trying to seem cool. But someone pointed out to her that David is the NEW cool.
KLueTV interview. Very good.

juliebug…Very good.
Just watched 3 times. How long has he been away? A week? Does it seem like he has grown in leaps and bounds again? He exudes confidence… he may be starting to see what we all have seen all along…I’m totally impressed… what are the terms being used..scary….be afraid….just scratching the surface.

Goes with the video above…
“Responding to the enthusiastic response for our David Archuleta in Malaysia postings, we present you with a video taken at his press conference yesterday. Easy now, girls…
The adorable 18-year-old was dressed in a green baju Melayu and proceded to effectively charm the pants off everyone in the room. Trust us, should you have been in the same space as Archuleta, your cold, bitter heart would’ve melted too.
Apologies for the wonky sound quality. We tried our best with a digicam! Maybe the important note to take away from it, for all you girl fans, is that the dude is single.”
djafan -- I agree. This trip has done wonders for him. He grows in confidence every day. It’s a lovely sight to behold.
One paragraph into the post and I knew it was you, Rascal. Rascal, you have a style of writing that draws people in, much the way David’s voice does. Just want to officially tell you that you’ve been missed and are appreciated. You put structure to our thoughts and feelings which rum rampant sometimes in the face of our ODD.
Jello: So there you are! Glad you came back! Please don’t feel that we’re all too tech-savvy for you. We all contribute something different to the mix and are all welcome! Agreed, this new site is fabulous but we are still the same group of people we were at ND and jD. The packaging has changed but the product remains the same! haha
bliss 79 ITA with you about that pic. From the first time I saw it, it haunted me and is now on my desktop. I keep saying there’s something about those eyes……
pabuckie 147 Notice how concerned David was that the people in the front could get hurt by the pushing in that video from the school. It had to be unnerving to answer questions while the fans were so rowdy, in response to seeing David. And yet he still gave good advice to the students about getting good grades and the value of working hard in school.
Another thing I noticed in the Asian videos that is very different from the US is that celebrities walk with a group of people surrounding them for protection. Glad to see that Ray walked near or behind David, but there were also about ten to twelve others surrounding David, all walking quickly, at a steady pace, without slowing down and getting invaded by fans. Very impressive. I like the way David is taken care of.
Angelica #168 “Interesting hearing about all the work and struggles he’s overcome. Why can’t the US djs ask him these kind of questions? I think the people from Asia get him and respect him as an artist more.”
I’ve been asking myself the same question. Aside from how warm Asian people are, he’s also loving it there because he’s being treated with more respect than he’s used to. I fear that he’ll come back here, hesitant to do interviews with US journalists.
Junnie: Not only are your videos the best but David is smiling so much while he’s singing. What a delight to see how happy he is.
Time for even this nightowl to get to bed, even though I’m still not finished reading here. But going to sleep with visions of Prince David in Malaysian garb makes it all worthwhile!
Nite all!
Junnie4DA#178, thanks for the redirection to mj’s blog. My favorite response to that “flop” comment:
“Poor Archie, being deported by his own label.”
ROFL!!!
As for his greeting in Malaysia, I’m thrilled with the international love for David. Don’t you just love the buzz David generates wherever he goes? This just keeps feeding our ODD.
JB 190: Thanks for the post of that interview. I continue to be amazed about how self disclosing David is in all these interviews. I think that he is more at ease because he senses the respect they are giving him by the nature and tone of the questions, and does not feel on edge that they are going to try to trick him or make some silly joke about something he says. Again all I can say is Bravo Malasia and Bravo Singapore.
oops- Malaysia.
Good morning all fellow David A followers!Top o’ the morning to ya! Been up all night so this shall be my one and only post.
Goboywonder#181: I love that you studied David’s concerts to see where would be the most advantageous place for you to stand in the moshpit!! That is something I totally would do! I am so happy that I am not alone in my obssessive David world!! To share in his love is a wonderful thing.
Bebereader#192: Ha! Thanks for the “return” greeting! However, I didn’t “come back”….I am always here enjoying everyone’s wisdom and insight and always learning so much!!
I truly love this place, and have since nD. I feel funny saying that because I just recently “revealed” myself to you all -- you’re prob all thinking…”how dare her…she’s such a newbie “, but I don’t feel like one!! I even saw some of you over @ CDC many moons ago! Some of you have been around quite awhile!
Pretty tight group! Thanks for allowing me in.
So…..who’s up for a welcoming home airport rally??? I almost feel ashamed now…David has not had throngs of fans greeting him or seeing him off here in the states!! Shame on us….lol.
Oh….and…..
SB : That is some avi you got going on there!!! Absolutely gorgeous!!
To Rascal : I feel as though I have been disrespectful to you by not commenting on your Tour wrap up. Please accept my humble apology . Your Tour Wrap summary is out-of-this-crazy-world with greatness! Thank you so much for this! I just smiled through the entire piece. Not knowing you all that well, I was so afraid you had jumped ship on David when you shut down nD. It broke my heart. David needs you.
Here is a clip of David talking about his music and other things.

So we all realize that just because someone didn’t post, doesn’t mean they haven’t been with the group all along. Post often, post infrequently, don’t post at all -- it doesn’t matter. The only requirement for inclusion here is a love for David. And we KNOW you’ve got that.

In case this hasn’t been posted here yet, my sis sent this to me….
hope it works!
Abrra…#199…
After viewing the video and watching him in costume I believe that he has presented many new thoughts for the writers here.
David, in the eyes of those overseas, is not looked at or thought of as placing second in anything especially AI. Maybe for the first time he is just David and we are seeing what the world sees in him. I am amazed by all of this and so pleased that it is not all take and no give back.
I believe that while overseas, David has been freed from AI and all of the writings by the American journalists (which on a good day have not appeared to be educated writings and some have been shameful).
We have noticed David in higher spirits and more talkative, partly due to the excitement of being there but maybe partly due to the respect shown to him as we see in interviews. They do honor him in the way he should be and I am so pleased that he is experiencing that. He replies back to them by saying that it is a privilege to be there.
He may have been mobbed at the airport and apologies have been given for that, but to have a police motorcycle escort was quite something.
I did business with Japanese businessmen a few years ago and they came here for a visit. A meeting was held with me by a committee from the provincial government at which time we discussed how to greet them, how to exchange a significant gift with them, and to learn about their customs. I noticed that respect is significant at all times. It was a most enjoyable visit. I was reminded of all that when I saw David in his interviews.
So much to write about now, so much to learn from David.
woo0hoo! it worked!
BTW, that’s the original clip of the talent show. He was 15 and he was already THE VOICE!
Good morning to all.
jello . April 10, 2009 at 8:20 am, #196. Thank you my fellow David obssessor, this is why I love coming to this place--someone always knows where you’re coming from. As it has been said up thread, David is like a good book and I never read a good book only once. And Rascal’s David 1.0 is much like an intro to a David Archuleta 101 course.
Well off to work, go out a make it a great day! (We start our spring break, WOOT!)

Beautifully said dear one………….

Oh funny!
Quite a few of us posted the same vid and same quote from that blog!
GMTA !
I read posts backwards and its not good as I am guilty of repeating stuff. Is it possible to have a setting for “read UNREAD posts” first?

Yeah Abrra, haha! I posted that in the wee hours of the a.m. and hours later…boom here it came again… twice. haha!
Good time to repeat this:
bit of news on the Tour CD.
The Tour Cd is close to being finished. I have sent a Cd to Dawn for approval. She thinks its fine. She is finishing up the cover art. When I get the covers, cases and labels I will begin mailing. If you have not sent your email through the Contact tab at http://justdavida.wordpress.com/ the top of main page, please do. I will email back asking for a mailing address and fill in some details. Marlie has been awesome about getting them to me.
This has been a pure joy for me and Dawn to work on. What better keepsake can we have?
I thought for the benefit of delurking folks this was a good time to repost.

SB #204 Quick question before I head back to work:
“He may have been mobbed at the airport and apologies have been given for that, but to have a police motorcycle escort was quite something.”
Was David escorted by a police motorcycle?
Check this out! He beat out every other song on the Love it or Shove radio show with ALTNOY and broke the countries record after 51 consecutive nights in a row! They finally had to retire the song from the contest to allow other artists a fighting chance. I’m so proud of him and have a new pride and respect for the people of Malaysia and Singapore, who get our David.
junnie4DJA: Just a quick thanks to you, for video, pictures and comments. David brings the world closer, into smiles, laughs and melted hearts.
Angelica . April 10, 2009 at 12:15 pm .
You know I actually CRIED watching that! Soul Sistah!

It is so gratifying to know that ALTNOY is doing so well overseas. So David’s two singles manage to cover his broad fan base of slightly different yearnings. Yay to that!
SF #203 What is amazing about that video is that people were screaming for David long before he became know on AI. That thrills me.
juliebug -- #209 Thanks! You are the best!

New Appearance Date for David in Winston-Salem
*Still working to confirm this.
I’m Kathy from southern VA and I called my local radio station in Winston-Salem, NC to request ALTNOY this am and the DJ told me that David will be there for a charity event on May26th and that they will be auctioning off seats at his table in a Japanese Steakhouse for the event. You will be able to bid on them soon…more details can be found out by listening to 107.5 KZL in 7-10am during The Murphy in the Morning Show.
Not sure if it’s open to non-local fans but will keep you posted once I find out any details! BTW, the charity is for children in some way. Please post this if you can! They have a website, but nothing is posted there yet.
Hello Jello! ::: waving ::: (I feel CERTAIN nobody ever thought “how DARE she!” lol. )
SF (#203), I Love seeing that clip. LOOOOVE ITTTT! (And love that your sister is sending YOU David vids!
) When you say he was The Voice even back then, it just reminds me how outrageously SKILLED and stylistically sophisticated and polished he was even way, WAYYYY BAAAACK. I look at that “I’ll Be” and I have to remember that (1) this is post-vocal-paralysis, and (2) it is a video of an as yet, relatively stage-shy kid (despite his Star Search “practice”) and yet, it’s just impossibly divine.
And then when I listen to “Don’t Tell Me” and “Contigo En La Distancia” — both “Little David” — recorded before that “I’ll Be” performance, (and I believe [?] pre-vocal paralysis, but don’t know for a fact) I am always 100% flabbergasted at his masterful styling and delivery. How Can THIS BE? He really, truly is a genius… a prodigy, as David Foster said. To say these recordings blow me away would be the understatement of the century. My “earballs” just sit there in dumbfounded disbelief. The musical intelligence, wisdom, maturity and mastery required to craft these jewels is…well, let’s just say *formidable*.
Contigo En La Distancia
Don’t Tell Me
While watching the video components of the “Don’t Tell Me” vid is fun, I definitely recommend listening to both of these with your eyes closed, just to really “UNDERSTAND” what this “kid” is pulling off in these recordings. Un-frackin’-believable.
There’s a similiarity between David and Elvis’ early career. When Elvis first hit the scene, his popularity was met with a great deal of backlash. He was “too” sexy, he sounded too “black”, the music was too rough, etc. Eventually, the naysayers gave up because Elvis was a runaway train, and they got out of the way. In a lot of ways, the beginning of David’s career is the same, although for different reasons. He is not seen as too sexy (Duluth not withstanding), ot too “black”, etc, but he has naysayers for other silly reasons. All the objections are, of course, bogus, and they too will get the heck out of the way or get run over by the Archuleta Express, which is now a worldwide phenomenon.
The video of David accepting a plaque for ALTNOYs popularity on the radio is classic David. So appreciative and humble. David is growing as a person and as an artist, but his basic persona is unchanged, which is about as flawless as a human being can be.
Bliss #222 Archuleta Express. I love that. Watch out world, here he comes.
beebee..AMAZING isn’t it? Wr’re fast running out of words to describe David’s musical brilliance.
The first time I heard DTM, I HAD to listen to it every day, several time a day and still listen to it everyday. What it does for me is remind me that David did not come to be what he is today easily. He has had a hard road. He has had obstacles thrown in his path. He has had to work hard to overcome those obstacles. He was given a test of wills by his Maker. He was given this test, I believe to insure he was deserving of the huge responsibilty he would have to take on. I believe David was given the gift of his beautiful voice before he was born as written in his book of life, however there was more to it.
I think David will have the power, through music, to bring peace & harmony, if not to the world at large, then to the people who are open to his message of love. He’s already done that to all of us who “get” him and love him & his music. During the “Test of Wills”, the vocal paralysis, he could have given up. He could have accepted it, but he didn’t. He wanted TO SING! He didn’t say woe is me, or why me? He prayed. He did what he was supposed to do and he worked hard. His Maker saw that it was good, that David would use his gift wisely and with good intentions. Am I surprised at his brilliance? No. David passed the test. And he’s using his gift wisely. We wonder why he’s treated with so much respect in Asia as compared to here? I have my own views about that, and I can only wish David will be given the same respect here someday very soon. Most Americans, I’m sorry to say, just don’t trust what they see in front of them. They need proof. When a truly GOOD person with a pure heart & soul like David comes along, there’s an inherent distrust, like he’s just too good to be true. David doesn’t want to be seen as a perfect human being. He just wants TO SING. He doesn’t even realize, I think, that he’s changed so many people just because he wants TO SING. I would say he is a Messiah of Music. He is the saving grace of the music of today and he’s doing it with THE VOICE he was given when he passed the Test of Wills with his Maker.
Yes, I know. I ramble…
Catching up on all the great comments! Joner, you’re so right! Trying to keep up with David is like the ultimate page-turner you can’t put down … and impossible to just skim!
Marlie7, love your story about your husband! lol And Angelica, that list is almost too much. “wearing scarves more” ROTFLMAO *loosens scarf*
And I’ve been slowly trying to introduce David’s music to my sister (who’s a lot younger and into pop music/dance stuff). I gave her his CD, which she liked but she asked if he’s improved his stage presence since A.I. The lightbulb flashed over my head and I offered to send her some vids from the tour.
She hadn’t heard the bonus tracks, so I sent her Zero Gravity and the soulful Reno Works for Me (full version, she’s not licensed for the merry-go-round yet!). Here’s her response:
“They were both actually really good. The boy can sing after all. He really has worked on his stage presence as well (BRAVO)!”
Oh, check out the This Week in Archuworld on the sidebar -- click on it and see what there is to see!
I’m really enjoying being able to play videos right here, rather than being transported to youtube. Watching them here gives us the choice of sitting and watching with our eyes and ears, or only listening to he audio as beebee suggested earlier, while continuing to read.
As I’m absorbing David’s overseas trip, something occurred to me about foreign relations, on a small scale. When I watched the video of David receiving the honorary plaque for ALTNOY, in the comments, Americans are thanking Asians for taking care of David; Asians are thanking Americans for letting him visit, etc. It’s a lovefest and a pleasure to see realtionships formed, albeit online, between people of different cultures, all due to a common interest, their love of David Archuleta.
Less than a year ago, I put a comment on David’s myspace page, in response to one of his blogs. Back then I never realized how how close to the truth it really was. My coment was “David, you are changing the world, one person at a time.”
SF- That “I’ll Be” video was one of my favorites all last year. I still watch it and especially love the shy glances of pleasure when his audience starts to rev up. Vocally he is brilliant, as usual.
Abrra #210: How funny! I too always read the posts backwards (last to first)!! I guess I am just too impatient!
The vid of David accepting the plaque is so freakin’ sweet!! Makes me want to gush….just feel like gushing……ugh-and I am so not a gusher !!!
Happy Friday to all “Chroniclers”???? Hmmm….sure was easier to say nDers…or jDers…..!! However, all is great!

Nope…. NO CAN DO

Oh……thanks Marlie. That never occurred to me. Duh. Feel and look like a dodo.

I just saw your lovely post #224. You so eloquently described the “refiner’s fire” David endured so well to become the brilliant jewel he is today.
beebee,
I have an addiction to Contiqo En La Distancia and if David ever releases a Spanish album, I will have to put in for early retirement, as that will render me useless to the workforce. I had looked up the lyrics to Don’t Tell Me but didn’t know there was an actual recording of it. You said:
“The musical intelligence, wisdom, maturity and mastery required to craft these jewels is…well, let’s just say *formidable*.”
I looked up the definition of formidable in the dictionary. It said, “arousing fear, dread, or awe.”
Part 3 and 4 of Hitz fm interview. No part 1 and 2 yet.
um…who is this articulate, talkative guy? He’s sounds familiar.

Good morning everyone. It is now Black Saturday here in Sydney. A long weekend from Good Friday to Easter Monday. Lots of free time for me to catch up on Archu news.
Bliss,I am in the Archu express train. I have sleeping cabin there.
US radio and TV stations should listen to their Asian counterparts. These DJs and TV presenters are not afraid to show that it is “THE NEW COOL” if you ask questions unrelated to “David’s crush or GF issue” That if you ask real questions to David, you will get real answers.
Only 10 days in Asia, and we have learned that Crush was the hardest to sing and he crash the recording session with Running. he didn’t know if he can do falsetto in crush. See some of the updates http://archuletavenue.wordpress.com/ ,
About David’s songwriting and the new material he’s working on
and so on and on…….about the humidity and how good it is for his voice….singers love humid conditions…..

Same here and I have been caught so many times so most of the time I usually start with “Sorry if this has been posted earlier”.
Lots of reminiscing on old David’s videos. ArchuletaFanScene has been posting original videos of David’s previous performances which of course included Angels. Just posted at youtube just now 9th April 2009. probably more videos to come This is the original video sent to them by the Archuleta family. Of course these videos have been on youtube since last year.
David Archuleta singing “Angels” by Robbie Williams at Hillcrest High School in Midvale, UT on October 13th, 2005. David was 14 years old.
Luv the suspenders and white tie, different arrangement again. he is shy but he loves performing
David Archuleta singing “Angels” by Robbie Williams on June 10th, 2006 at the EFY Talent Show. David was 15 years old
Luv the hairstyle. again different arrangement ….watch his smiles
There is no real life for me anymore. Case in point:
James Taylor was on Oprah today and she closed the show with some poignant remarks about how Taylor is as “nice and sweet as his music” and I found myself saying out loud, “Just like David!”
I cannot seem to emerge from my Archuworld…..
I do not think I really want to.
hmmmmmmmmmm………..rumor mill has it that he’s opening for Demi Lavato.. is that how you spell her name ?
She’s Disney.
Ticketmaster is leaking.
I will stand back and let you all contemplate this.
Excuse me while I go vomit……
Is that clear enough?
Actually, I looked @ Ticketmaster and it does not look like they are together…..there are different dates and times for each….am I looking @ it wrong?
When you search for David, you get the Del Mar date and a Demi Lovato date
Those old videos bring tears….Thanks for bringing them here for us to see.
dawn65-Demi, hummmm. My 12 year old is going crazy because she loves them both. Why are there only 4 dates? are there more?….hope they come a little more South for the summer!!
All I can think of is: Rascal finally came back and now this, if it IS true, will surely make him pack his bags…..
This doesn’t bother me. David brings his own crowd. Demi brings hers. She’s having a little twitter romance with John Mayer, so maybe David will meet John
There is no confirmation that David is opening for Demi whatever her name is. She certainly is not the BIG name Jive would have David would open for..geesh! That would be like David taking 10 steps forward with his sold out solo tour, then 50 steps BACK opening for.. what was her name again??
actually when you search TM…she comes up a couple times. Snarky’s is pretty sure this is it.
I get notifications from TM as well.. and her appearances came to my email tonight.
More Disney.
Disney’s teens are losing the appeal… they are sucking David in like the last ditch effort to help them out. Demi hasn’t even sold 300K albums. She’s a big draw…the likes of Miley though… that age group.
River #238
not sure how many autographs David signed when he was in Singapore , but reported that over 2000 fans were there that nite. Knowing how sweet he is, he will probably signed for all unless the organiser limit it.
Security and the organiser were very strict that day in SG that prompted one ( a male fan) to wrote in to complain in the the local paper.
http://comment.straitstimes.com/showthread.php?t=18646&goto=nextoldest
am particular amused at this comment :
“Aiyo! I thought only starry-eyed teenage girls go for his autograph -- a male also…? “
It’s Saturday 4/11, 10AM in Maylasia so David is up & about getting ready for the concert so I’m sending him the following wishes. The prayer will be posted after the concert. I’m hoping David will be on his way home after the concert, but in the meantime…
David…We hope you’ve been sleeping well, eating well and are still having the time of your life! May this last day of your journey in Asia continue to be happy, safe and all you have hoped for and deserve! May your positive and good Karma continue to attract those with positive and good Karma! May you continue to encounter goodwill and happiness! May you continue to be healthy and strong. Keep with you all our love, prayers and warm thoughts! We are missing you badly, and loving you madly!
Marlie #237…Thanks for that little tip. I have been frustrated trying to search out videos.

The Cat’s Out of the Bag: David Is Touring With Demi Lovato This Summer
Darn that Ticketmaster. They sure know how to ruin a good surprise!
The timing is a bit off–David is, after all, touring in Asia right now, and that should be the focus, but Ticketmaster can’t keep a secret, and David’s fans are very skilled at rooting out information!
Our Very Reliable Source let us know that David will be touring with Demi Lovato this summer. The tour dates will be announced soon. I think the idea was to announce everything at once, but it’s all good.
Demi Lovato, 16, played Mitchie Torres in Disney Channel’s Camp Rock and currently plays Sonny Monroe on Disney Channel’s Sonny With a Chance. Her latest film project is a starring role in Jonas Brothers: The 3D Experience. Her debut album Don’t Forget was released in 2008 and debuted at #2 on the Billboard 200. She is signed to Hollywood Records.
So is she a legit artist? Ask John Mayer, who has been publicly Twittering with her and singing the praises of this young singer/songwriter. MTV reports the following:
Mayer tweeted that Demi’s song “La La Land” is “sophisticated.” “You’re going to make lots of records, I can tell,” he added. “Write one song at a time, never apologize for any of them, ever. From ‘Wonderland’ to Trio stuff, they’re all my kids.”
The 16-year-old seemed very excited by this very public compliment. “Holy crap. Thank you. You’re so awesome,” she wrote to him. “That is quite possibly the best compliment I’ve received in this business. … If that’s not inspiration, then I don’t know what is! You’re incredible.”
Back in January, before all these tweets, Demi actually told MTV News that she will be taking a page from the John Mayer playbook for her next album, due out this summer. “It’s going to take a different sound, so hopefully it goes over well,” she said. “I sing a lot of rock, but this time I want to do more John Mayer-ish type of songs. Hopefully, I can write with people like him. I love their music -- it would be amazing.”
Well, that makes me happy, to say the least.
***
Check her out. She’s got an edge that I like. I wonder if it will rain on the stage like this during the concert? I don’t want David to slip and fall. (Joke.)
It’s kind of amazing, actually, if David is opening for her? Or is she opening for him? He has sold more albums than her (about double), had a hit single that is platinum. She isn’t quite that popular except with radio Disney, is she?. Well, maybe if she wants to change her style they will be complimentary. I’ll go LOL
marlie7…Yes,we all can feel a little shock I guess about David opening for anyone…but, he may very well steal the show whatever the format. Whatever David says goes…The summer schedules with acquiring venues and dates etc. is not an easy one and probably needs planning many months in advance. My guess is that you can’t snap your fingers and schedule yourself into venues just when you want to. It will be a fun concert if David has anything to do with it…he is full of surprises.
I seriously feel like I’ve been stabbed in the heart….I am in total shock. I hope this turns out to be a good thing.
I still don’t think its bad. It might be interesting. She’s not your typical Disney singer. Like SB said, she’s a little edgy. The only thing I hope is that if he’s opening, will there be enough songs? (Never enough!)
Marlie,
I read in the comments on FOD that he is likely going to be opening for her because he is being added to her tour and she has a larger young following.
I watched a couple of her videos. I kinda find her voice cringe-worthy, but that may just be a personal thing. She seems to try to infuse too much emo into it or something.
I guess Angelica said she was edgey…sorry.
She has a baby-breathy voice. Tough to follow David
jello…I have learnt that David makes everything a “good thing”…I put my trust in him..We fussed enough in the past worrying that what he was about to venture into was not good enough for him…But, if it works for him… It works for me…Who sings something like that??
Relax, breathe again…I am learning.
Sorry SB…guess I need to just stand back for awhile…off the David express…to regroup my feelings. I am well aware of all the previous discussions here.
You prob think I am being a bit dramatic.
I believe that David just lowered his standards and that disappoints me very much.
It just doesn’t seem right to me. I know u want me to be positive….I just can’t @ this point in time so I will be silent for awhile.
jello: Who would you have like to see him open for?
Enjoy !! I’ll pass on this run. He’ll be back.. with someone a bit older than 16.
Not that I don’t support David.. but I’m sure the crowds will be a majority of 10 -- 14 year olds.
I was hoping for a more mature venue…but maybe next time around.
I’m sure the concerts will sell out just the same.. I just don’t see that one in the cards for me.
I was SO hoping it was JT or someone like that. But Demi is 16. For me PERSONALLY.. and no offense to anyone here.. I just can’t make myself go through it…and it would be rude to leave after David was done. LOL.
To all that are going to score tickets.. good luck…I hope you get excellent seats.
Sorry to be a spoilsport, but I HATE this! After this very wonderful week David spent in Asia, where he was treated like the Star is is, we have to see him possibly opening for WHO again?
OK, so I’m old! OK, so I’m not “up” on the teen music scene! All I know is David is TOO GOOD to open for a Disney anyone!
I am so disappointed, I could cry. David took a giant step forward with his sold out solo tour, so why take 2 steps back now? I’m guessing TPTB want us “older” fans to stay home this time. And you know what? I do understand that reasoning, so I probably will.
Now all I want to know is, what about Del Mar? Is he a headliner or an opener??
Just before I go…Remembering David’s last few months. His solo that was fantastic, his visit overseas phenominal, his major tour coming up in the UK…As my husband mentioned…and husbands in general say little on the subject…”Anyone would think that it is time to have a bit of a rest and he does want to write, right?” I agree…
jello.. I understand how you feel…but honey.. PLEASE DONT BLAME DAVID.
He has nothing to do with these types of decisions. Who he tours with.. comes as a complete surprise to him… he just got done saying that when he found out he was touring with McFly.
Whatever you do… don’t blame David… it’s not his fault.
Jive has to milk the tween cash cow some more.. David still has 18 months (give or take) left to be a teenager..and they’ll get their money’s worth.. trust me.
Once he hits 20.. THEN they’ll let him grow up…but for now…. we gotta ride with the Mousketeers.
oh SF… it breaks my heart to see you upset… please don’t be upset… I can handle everyone else except you.. I love and respect you too much.. and David loves you too… please …don’t be upset…
Wow, so it sounds like the Demi thing is legit? If she’s as bad as some of the noise we heard at the Jingle Bashes, Joner and I may just leave after David’s performance. Hope he plays WI State Fair, as I really want to try a state fair cream puff.
I said she was edgy? Maybe she is. I’m fine with it. He will make it fine. I need to go find my happy place. I think it’s in Sayreville or Reno.
Oh geez silverfox…he must be a headliner right? I don’t need to see the beaches that badly if he isn’t…I know how you feel and rightfully so and I am not far behind you. Don’t get me going just when I am trying to be positive…
Anyone interested in David cupcakes?
http://www.pacmee.com/perma/083142519076528200f08ef2a9fd4efd83f0410d994299a4/
Made available during the pre-showcase gathering! LOL
dawn65…you are sooo funny!
However…you’d think with all the grumbling about the Miley thing with the fanbases… more thought would be put into this. Maybe Jive knows we are all bark and no bite.. we’d support David no matter what.
Poor David. I feel so bad for him right now. He’s worked so hard. it’s really kind of insulting to be an opener for her… it’s even insulting if he’s coheadlining.
marlie7, sandy beaches -- not worried either. I don’t really care who opens for who. He needs exposure, he needs people to see and hear him live. If this does it, so be it. I actually prefer DL to Miley. This is the first year of his career, in a depressed economy. If your gonna survive, you gotta do what you gotta do.
Has anyone seen the pics of the Seventeen shoot on snarky’s? You won’t be disappointed.
It seems that at least a few artists are doing the fair thing this summer. I have no idea who Demi is.
I bet it is very hard to plan dates and co-performers. I wonder if Demi was the best slot they had to choose from. I really wish he would have opened for Kelly Clarkson, though.
jello…#265…don’t be sorry…I am trying a new thing for myself and that is not to worry and to stay positive especially when it comes to David…It’s not easy and I don’t want you to worry…Ahh..when SF worries then I worry!!! Like the bells go off!!
blah ..
ok.. nite all. This was kind of … a wind out of my sails event.
Everyone go regroup.
Get some rest.. have a drink.. go ride the Reno Merry Go Round…something… try not to think about this …
I’m going to turn off the pc and just watch stuff on my neglected DVR.
I hope David has a safe trip home to enjoy Easter with his family.
No matter what… I love David… but Jive sucks…and I won’t feed their pockets. I will support David unconditionally…but the economy is too tough for me to spend on Disney.. unless I’m buying Disney Princess nightgowns for Mariah.. see.. they get enough out of me.
Nite peeps… I love you all… I love David… always
Okay, David is going to have fun touring with her. Watch this and relax.
Demi sang on Dancing With the Stars last week…with pro dancer…Shall I say…it was OK?…
Where’s bebereader……? For some reason I feel as though I need bebereader….can’t explain it….
Awwww shucks….liqour stores are closed…I need a drink.
Look at him!! That reaching photo on this post--as with so many other images that have been captured of David in performance--reminded me of a line in the play I saw last night:
“That boy could kiss with his eyes.”
She’s not in the same league with David as far as singing. But he’s young and he likes being with young people. Did you look at the Asia crowds? She is coming out with a new Album just in time for the Tour. She says she changing her style.
Sure, I’d love David to tour with someone else. But, we whined about the crummy venues he was booked in for his solo tour and look how that turned out. I’m reserving judgment.
She is a sweet girl…I agree with dawn65…I am disappointed but that is OK…Can’t blame Demi for sure, the big guns make the plans…They will look fabulous together in any pictures…Will I get in trouble for saying that?
Hot off the press: New Straits Times Article
David Archuleta still single and hot!
http://archuletavenue.files.wordpress.com/2009/04/scan0003.jpg?w=500&h=1263
Also, this according to Anne of ArchuletaAvenue Malaysia,
“TeamArchie will be hosting a cellcast of David’s showcase at the Sunway Lagoon, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
To listen in, go to http://www.ustream.tv/ Search for “TeamArchie” at the search box located at the upper right corner. It will have 1 result, click on that link and you’re in.
In ustream.tv, guests are given numbers to identify each one which makes it difficult to chat. To avoid confusion, please register at the site or go to the TeamArchie chatroom at teamarchie.com/chat.htm.
David’s performance on April 11, Saturday, will start at 3PM, Malaysian time, which is 3AM EST. He will reportedly sing 4 songs and do a meet and greet right after.”
There will be some interesting talk coming along after they get together…Do I dare even say that? I have to admit it…I thought before that they would be handsome together…Don’t shoot me!! I am not a traitor…I think that I should go and pull the covers over my head and I don’t know why…
SB: See, I think they will be cute together, too.
Regardless, David seems to transcend anything we worry about.
SB, they will look beautiful together. This will bring the teens in droves, don’t you think? Hey, and a little sumthin, sumthin’ in the rumor mill isn’t all bad.
Maybe not the best for our personal concert experience, but I really think it will boost his career. As stated on another site, according to a poll, he hasn’t gained a ton of new fans since the album came out.
I think so to Marlie, he will have a blast touring with her.
He deserves to hang out with people his own age for awhile.
I’m here jello!
I was checking out the cellcast set-up for the show in Kuala Lumpar. Everyone is gathering there now. It’s a pleasure to speak to the Asian fans. They are such warm people and so good to David.
I want to say I’m disappointed about the news about the Demi/David pairing but honestly, I want to see David in concert again so badly that I will block everything else out and only focus on him. I don’t care who he opens for; I don’t care who opens for him. I just want to see him. So if he comes my way and I am available that day and can afford the tickets I plan on going.
Okay, hit me with the tomatoes now! LOL
I actually know a lot about Demi, my granddaughter’s two favorite singers, David and Demi. I agree that she is nowhere near his talent…but even though she’s not my ideal choice, it’s better than Miley, JBros, etc… She isn’t the typical Disney singer, she does have an edge…like Angelica said. She writes most of her own material, granddaughter is very much into studying lyrics, so I’ve read a lot of hers, some good…she’s has a good following. I do hope they’re co-headlining.
I for one will be attending if in the area…These aren’t his decisions so I won’t stop supporting him in spite of my reservations. There will be adults there….someone needs to take the teens, so we’ll blend in… and if we don’t, who cares…this is my humble opinion.
bebereader, djafan -- (((hugs)), and maybe I’ll see you at a concert!
djafan…Finally!!! Our avis are now one under the other! And now we can see how similar they are! Love them!
And I love David. I don’t want him to think that I’ll only go to see him under certain conditions. Who am I to decide what’s best for him? He has a record label to make these decisions. So it’s not the perfect pairing for me but there are worse things than having him co-headline with someone from Disney. I’m a fan for life and if he’s heading my way, I want to be there.

ARCHULETA ANAK MALAYSIA
http://rage.com.my/writeups/story.asp?file=/2009/4/10/happenings/20090410112455&sec=happenings
Talks about his school visit and some comments from the students. Have links to more pix at the end of the article.
BTW, “ANAK” means “SON”. Linguistically, Malaysia and the Philippines have many common words
Has anyone else seen the photoshoot pics at snarky’s? idk, I kinda like them.
emmiegirl {{{hugs back}}}} I haven’t seen the pics yet. I think I’ll go there now.
The one of David sitting on the floor is THUDworthy!
I think we are missing the point here.
Maybe I was looking through rose colored glasses thinking all David’s concerts would be for all ages. I was wrong. David’s summer tour with Demi (16?) is obviously geared to tweens/teens. Not where I would feel comfortable. I had a hard enough time getting up the nerve to go to the Jingle concerts.
I just can’t see David’s older fans, the same ones who traveled long distances to see him, do it again just to see David open for Demi. But who knows? And maybe that’s the point. Jive’s point. I do understand that. I know David needs a larger teen following here in the states, in Jive’s view. That’s fine. I just feel as if I was slapped in the face, but I’ll get over it. I WANT David to be as successful as he deserves to be. I will continue to be a forever fan, unconditionally no matter what. That goes without saying. I just can’t wrap my mind around David “opening” for anyone, actually. After David sang up to 19 songs in his own tour, and blew us away with his stage presence, I just cannot see it. So for me, to see David go from THAT to open for someone, anyone other than a bona-fide Super-duper star is unthinkable. Not to mention singing 5-7 songs as an opener. Now if David is THE HEADLINER, that would be a different story, but it sounds as if that is not the case here.
So, yes I am disappointed. Do I blame David? Of course not! Do I still love him? Silly question…I’m a forever fan! And I can wait til he’s performing in the venues fit for THE VOICE as a headliner, cuz that is what he will always be, to me.
I agree with you djafan and I actually prefer Demi to Miley, JBros etc.
I’m not too familiar with her but even though she’s Disney it seems like she has more of a young singer, songwriter vibe. I’m actually glad she’s one of their up and coming stars as opposed to being a well known tv personality like some of their other acts.
I do hope it is more of a co-headlining thing and I won’t complain if they do a duet onstage in spanish.
Gotta look at the positive!
bebereader -- thank you! I was kinda dying on the vine alone here!! That one on the floor alone could do you in. And I am liking the suspender one, too. Thinking this issue might come out right before the summer tour maybe?
SF -- your love could fill an ocean.
If I was touring with David, I would want to go on before him. I can’t imagine having to follow him!
I don’t like that he would be opening for Demi after opening for a mega successful group like McFly. They should share co-billing and have the same number of songs at least. Anyway, this is not his career, just a single tour among many more. She is a young, pretty girl and seems like she could be fun to be around. He will enjoy. What would David do? See only the good in her and the situation. I’m gonna do the same.
You all have to see this…Looks so familiar!
http://teamarchie.com/24_7/updates-from-kuala-lumpur/
Oh yeah. David will LOVE touring with Demi, I’m sure. He really does need to tour with a young people closer to his own age. He’ll have a great time.
emmiegirl: Are those really suspenders? I can’t figure out what those things are on his shoulders but I’m not convinced that they’re suspenders. Nice pic, tho!
SF: I agree with you. You’re the voice of reason and it’s so obvious how much you love David. The thing is that I’ve learned to step aside and let his people do all the work. He’s going to be marketed for the teenage audience no matter what we think. He’s still a teenager and a hot commodity at that! It’s no use getting upset. Que sera…what will be, will be, no matter how much we fret. xoxo
Do we know for sure that he is opening and not co-headlining?
It looks like I am in the minority, but I am just not concerned about this. I just have this blind faith that it will work out.
My guess is that Jive has already afforded him more appearances, etc. than any other AI runner up. He did a solo tour identical to that of the winner, he promo’d in Asia and will be touring in the UK with a very popular band,(no tour abroad for Cook), and again a summer tour similar to Cook’s.
Now, if we could get them to release ZG…
David/Demi??? Oy!
To go or not to go, that is the question.
Whether it is nobler to stay after David sings or politely leave so no one will see you plugging your ears.
I’m coming here to rant. You guys are nicer to me.
Demi’s got cred that the other Disney stars don’t have.
He’s doing what Jive is trying to do with Jordin touring with the JoBros, like Taylor Swift did last year. Siphoning off the Disney fanbase without actually being Disney. Times are tough. The economy sucks at the moment. You have to do what you have to do.
Whether we like the music of the person he tours with is immaterial. There are many, many people who don’t like David’s music either. FACT.
On the other hand, there are MILLIONS of people out there who (Gasp!) DO NOT KNOW WHO HE IS AND HAVE NEVER HEARD OF HIM!
At this point in his very, very young career it’s all about exposure, exposure, exposure. Keeping your name out there.
He needs to be out there during this summer. Keeping his name out there. Keeping the buzz. He can’t afford to disappear. He’s not an old pro that can disappear for a couple of years to write and record the biggest and best album of all albums ever. There are not a lot of choices for summer tours this summer. A lot of the people he would be good touring with are not touring this summer, they are recording. Of the ones he probably had to pick from this was most likely the best. And, again, she’s got the cred with critics and musicians alike that other Disney people don’t have.
You don’t like that he is “opening” for someone else. Sorry but David is nowhere near the point in his career that he can continue to sell out venues on his own without new fans added to the fanbase. He did great on his first solo tour, but it was with the existing fanbase. He needs more than that for a sustainable career. He’s not there yet.
If he wants to make a living at music he needs to survive these tough economic times first. Then he can worry about longevity. In ideal times, yes, maybe different choices would be made. But the music business is just like any other these days. People are worried about having a roof over their head and food on the table TODAY. Tomorrow will have to sort itself out. Long term planning is not on most peoples radar at the moment. At least not that far out. People are being laid off right and left. I just survived the THIRD cut at my company in a year. As long as David is making money for Jive they won’t “lay him off.” He needs the job at the moment. He can’t be too picky.
He’s got the McFly tour, then a few dates this summer with Demi (looks to be a lot of fairs -- there are not that many and many big names play the fairs), and then apparently working on a new album. And, I’m sure they will get him to every award show and event they can in the meantime. Then they’ll hit it again when the new album comes out.
In the meantime, he’ll be mastering his performance skills, learning, learning, learning, writing songs, learning, learning, growing, growing, growing.
What is the problem? Chill. Seriously, I encounter this all the time at work. The young high school or college grads, no matter how talented or smart they are, want to start at the top. Sorry, but they know NOTHING. There is nothing like EXPERIENCE. Let David get his experience. If he starts at the top…sorry, he’ll always be fighting for cred and carry the burden of the AI stigma. And it’s a quick hard fall to the bottom. Burn too brightly too fast -- you’ll be working at McDonald’s. He said so himself just this week.
If you’ve listened at all to his interviews this week, his head is in the right place. Are yours? HE knows he needs the experience. HE knows he needs to grow and develop. HE knows he needs to define himself as an artist. HE knows he needs to develop more as a songwriter (which gives him even more cred). He’s not fully developed. He’s working on it. That’s his job.
Ours is to support that development.
Sorry for the rant, this fanbase seriously wears me out.
OK.. I’m gonna take the plunge… IMHO, David still has a LOT of dues to pay in this business before he has the power, and the industry cred, to dictate or have more say things like opening/headlining tours… a little story follows…. another musical genius, many moons ago, garnered rave reviews, and sold out tours all over England, and the,UK… had people the likes of The Beatles, Eric Clapton, The Stones and all the A list groups and musicians of the day bowing at his feet… he couldn’t get arrested in America, or get any real respect from the mainstream music public or press until he came back to the US, played in a little festival in California called Monterey Pop in 1967, set the world on fire, literally, and then the rest of this country began to take notice and give him the props he deserved… the world was at his feet….. would have thought it would have been smooth sailing from then out, huh?
Well this legend, on one of the first tours he was booked on after his success at Monterey was… opening… for The Monkees… The Monkees… the fakest, cheesiest, most fabricated group in music EVER. Did opening for the Monkees diminish his star, or hamper his artistry or credibility? Hardly….. The guy remains a Legend, a musical genius… Oh… his name -- Jimi Hendrix.
Using that example -- and it may be a poor one, but many similarities abound… Do I worry about David opening for Lovato? NO. He remains DAVID ARCHULETA at the beginning, middle and end of the day… talent, genius extraordinaire…
Opening for Lovato can hardly stop what has been ordained for him, and set in motion… it’s just another pathway he has to take on the road in his journey… we can’t change it -- it’s up to us to either trust him, accept it, and support him… or not. And since it’s DAVID ARCHULETA… I’m behind him till the day I die… dude could open for Barney -- I’m there.
bebereader, I don’t know. At first I thought it was a backpack, but when I look at where they would hook on to the pants it kinda looks like them. idk, whatever it is, I like it.
Likewise, I have decided it is best for me to just go with the flow. Otherwise, I have too much angst, and I drive myself crazy. And I also honestly believe David knows exactly what he wants, and is participatory in finding the best way to get there. And him, I completely trust. If we have found out one thing, it is that he is not led around by the nose.
GG -- I’m soooo glad you decided to start posting here. I seriously love you. Really.
I’m just killing time til the live stream from David’s concert starts and I found this…
It’s pretty good!
juliebug -- Will you marry me? You are awesome, and brilliant and wonderful and every point you made is right on (atleast to me.)
gg -- you deserve a medal for all the hardwork you do for David and your love and unwavering support! Wow, Jimmy Hendricks!
<3,”He remains DAVID ARCHULETA at the beginning, middle and end of the day… talent, genius extraordinaire…
SF! I just peeked in here and wondered what you were doing up/here so late…now I see! Waiting for the cellcast!
Believe it or not, I’ve been over at jD catching up on a post that I missed: “The Boundries of Fandom” The posts there are so beautiful, telling, redeeming.
Really reaffirms why I am so proud and so thrilled to be part of this family.
Just had to come here and say that.
Love you all. Back to catching up!
#311/ Juliebug.. I am staying up to listen to the showcase, but I knew this Lovato tour issue would be explored more in depth here… I’m not 100% sold on the idea, but I am 100% sold out on David… that’s where it begins and ends for me…
I am so lame, I spelled Jimi Hendrix like an airhead. I am a little kinda worked up right now.
I’m waiting for the cellcast too. I just hope I don’t fall asleep just as David takes the stage! I need coffee! At least they are entertaining us, playing all of David’s music. I’m loving it!
I’m pooped, can no longer think or type with any clarity or sense, am talking to myself, time to bid goodnight to all -- enjoy the cellcast.
emmiegirl -- {{{hugs back}}} hopefully we will!
bebereader -- now isn’t that something… they’re almost identical! I’m up to any type of performance to see David. I unlike most have only seen him once and I’m hungry for more!
mbmonchi -- yes, singer/songwriter is what she’s called…hey John Mayer loves her. Maybe they can end the show performing together.
SF -- you’re love for David is undeniable, you’ve set an example of a true fan from the get go, from the days at nd, heck from the moment I saw that youtube of you and the car, boy how I envied you’re courage.
I am on the Archuleta Express regardless of it’s turns and twists..
Juliebug, Every single word you said is exactly right & true. I had to read it twice just to see if I could find one thing I could call you on..there wasn’t.
So as for me, I needed that wake up call…since I’ve always known David still has a long ways to go here in the good ole USA. This is not to say I don’t still want him to be a headliner for the rest of his life because he is THAT good!
Hopefully, touring with Demi will give David the cred he needs to gain the fans he hasn’t reached yet. One thing though, It would help David immensely if the radio stations would play his music. On the other hand, since I now listen to the pop stations
I’ve never heard Demi either. Is she not pop?
juliebug and gg,
You both make a lot of sense. I said I was going to take the high road with David and I will. Really, this doesn’t upset me at all. I tried to worry about it for a few minutes but my heart just wasn’t buying it. He has proven to me over and over, that I can trust him to make whatever comes his way work for him. These young fans will move on with him as they age with him, but first, he has to win them. And he has to pay his dues, get his cred, gain more experience and more fans to fill the big venues. And he will. And it’s ALL good.
Hi there, GG! if you’re still here!
Hi Silverfox! I’m trying to stay awake, to listen to the Crown Prince on the cellcast… ODD trumps sleep
Seriously, no way would I stay up this late for just anyone!
Uh-uh! just David! Good thing tomorrow’s not a work day! Otherwise, I’d have to call in sick! The things we do for David!
I just thought of something! David has three openers for him! So I wonder what time he’ll actually be on??
dja: Did you say you’re ‘hungry for more’? It’s more like starving!
Guys relax!!!
You know my take on this, NO ONE WANTS DAVID AS THEIR OPENING ACT this summer…..He is too good even for those “big superstars”. It could be that only Demi’s manager accepted him. Although he is so popular in our book, he is not yet Miley or Jonas Brothers. He is not that big yet for big ARENA Tour, wait next summer…. In his solo tour he was singing to his fans, as a thank you for all the support , he could probably got a few fans but not a lot. See his album sales. After 25 sold out shows album sales didn’t even moved up.
With this concert/concerts, either opening or co headlining, he won’t be ignore just like any ordinary opening act. He is already DAVID ARCHULETA. He has its own set of fans, fanatic fans. Even if we get some occasional fans in this summer tour, the numbers will be large enough for his debut album to reach platinum…. then by next album, he can do what ever he wants
I for one would feel sorry for the main act following David…..I think Jive just wanted to keep David in the limelight. They could not have foreseen the “Popularity of this AI7 runner up” So no plan really of a summer tour but they are force to find something now( it “doesn’t matter what” )to keep him in the news. The Summer tour is really three months. What was given were just a few dates. He might be touring with a few artists, in the end getting new fans from all sort people. Or really just a few concerts dates and writing new music for his next album….to keep him in the news…
As we always say “TRUST THE ARCHULATOR” Relax AND ENJOY THE RIDE….
SF: It’s gonna be close to 4:00 AM, EST! I’m gonna be wasted tomorrow and good for nothing. But it’s all worth it!!!
I’m listening, My gosh the screams and he hasn’t even got there!
hey bebereader…. I’m famished…lol
doing grandma duty…baby woke up.
To all TDCers:
Just wanted to say thanks for allowing me to share in your blogs/posts the past month or so. Sadly, I cannot remain. I do not fit in here…in fact, I do not fit in anywhere. My posts are not notable, nor are they halfway worthy of any intellectual replies. I tend to lean toward the negative side…..and that is NEVER an endearing quality……and you all are always so positive……which is a great thing!! Thank you for putting up with me for a little while.
I will follow David’s career always -- because I know he is a great talent and I enjoy so much listening to him and watching him grow. I just didn’t expect to see him grow in this direction at this time. I guess this was the direction Jive saw when they attended the Sayerville concert? Quite an impression we made on the execs, huh? Well I hope David can elevate Demi’s sales for her.
BEHOLD -- THE POWER OF POSITIVE THINKING
I am STILL UP!

Ya That’s the ticket!

Jello: Stay right where you are. Don’t go anywhere. You’re just as important as the rest of us. This is what I learned from being here: We share our opinions, nobody gets offended, we’re big girls and boys, we can take it and dish it out. And through the exchange of ideas we learn from each other. Yes, we do! And isn’t that a beautiful thing? So buckle up and remain seated. You’re in for the long haul! xoxo
I was killing time and googled “Baju Melayu” and was looking at photos of the traditional dress. You know, they really gifted David with an unusually beautiful one and one that suited him perfectly. The material of the “skirt” portion is really lovely. He looks really handsome in the outfit. Too bad he didn’t get the hat. He looks good in hats. haha!
He really liked it, I think. He asked if it was his to keep as he hoped he got to take it home with him. He thought it was very comfortable and “flowy” and “soft to the touch”. Goes back to the artist in him I think. Despite its looseness, it has a very sensual look to it. Don’t you think?

Abrra the late night cellcasting listening spammer
Jello, please don’t go. I enjoy your posts very much. I think you fit in here more than I do. We are all here to support each other with our ODD.
juliebug & ggdoorsfan! <-- STANDING “O”!!
Unlike most of you, I have yet to listen to the VOICE live. If by whatever means (cause so far nothing has worked for me -- 3 tries, 3 last minute cancelations) I find myself sitting/standing at a concert/fair where he is performing I will be in total bliss. Nothing right now (exscept my husbands health) would bring me greater happiness. Like gg said ” dude could open for Barney -- I’m there”
Maybe I don’t understand the whole problem with who he opens/headlines for. Seems as long as you get to listen to David, why would it matter? I get the opening for thing, as he would have fewer songs but other than that, really?
I am actually up listening to the cell cast. Woke up very early for some reason!
Crush!
jello #331: I think I said on another post, the only requirement for inclusion here at TDC is a love of David. We don’t care how articulate someone is or is not. Words of love and caring and lovely squee’s are part of the fabric of this very diverse group. You are much too hard on yourself
The rest of us don’t even notice that stuff.
juliebug and ggdoorsfan: You are absolutely right. David still has some dues to pay in the business. His talent is way beyond having to do that, but so many people don’t know David…YET! I’m going to get tomatoes thrown at me for this one, but David’s first CD is only mediocre material. The best songs on it are the ones he had a hand in writing and unfortunately, many of them are bonus tracks.
The only time I listen to the CD tracks is when I’m in my car and can’t watch a video of a live performance. David made those songs come alive with his personality and performance skills and THE VOICE. And I anticipate him having a lot more say in what goes into the next CD.
He needs to be making money while he is growing as a singer/songwriter, and as most of us would do, you take the work that you need to to stay afloat. Especially now. In the meantime, David is traveling with another young performer who, from all indications, has similar aspirations to David. She wants to rise above the current pop/rock genre she is in and write in a more mature way. Who knows what may become of a pairing like this? Some mutual support and energy for writing the breakout song(s) for each of their careers?
Vee #326 “he is not yet Miley or Jonas Brothers”
EXACTLY
And I hope he never is.
I applaud everyone that can see past it…and follow your heart.
I just think on a personal level, I’ve reached my limit, I can’t continue to compromise my own comfort level to appease someone else’s “marketing plan”.
I’ve BTDT with the Sayerville concert, and believe me.. it sounds better on paper than it really is, and that was David’s first SOLO tour EVER. If I said I wasn’t humiliated and embarrassed, I’d be lying. Of course none of that mattered when David took the stage, but the price I paid maybe scarred me in some ways. I gave up being SECOND in line…because it became too much for me to stand.
If you think THAT was easy for me.. think again. It was the hardest thing I did that day, but if I had to go back and do it again, I’d probably not stand there to begin with. It’s horrible, and still makes me feel slightly sick to my stomach thinking about it.
And I also don’t think he needs the exposure of iCarly, Miley Cyrus or Demi Lavato… I also don’t think he can learn anything from them. I believe he likes “hanging out” with kids his own age, but none of his musical inspirations come from that bracket.
He doesn’t get “inspired” from any of them. I honestly don’t think Jive is paying for David to appear, I believe it’s the other way around. I believe DISNEY…is paying for this. They are trying to save their OWN pockets..because besides Miley and JB… they don’t have any real money makers.. and those two aren’t doing as well as they ONCE did. Writing is on the wall for them.
Demi sold 300,000 thousand albums for crying out loud. AT 16 she’s “changing her style”? How in heck do you even HAVE a style at 16? That translates into.. well…my first style didn’t really cut it, let me try something else. She can continue to “find” herself, whereas David is FIRMLY rooted to who he is. The direction he isn’t sure of… is already determined, he just doesn’t see it yet. And neither do we… it’s out of our hands, we’re just along for the ride.
I stand firmly in the corner that the only thing David NEEDS .. is time.. his talent, his personality, his character.. ALL of it.. will continue to stand on it’s own. HE is his own best teacher…. HE knows better than anyone what’s best for him. Will he make the best of this ? I’m sure he will.
I have complete faith in David, but on THAT note, I also have complete faith in MYSELF… and will continue to trust my own judgement…before TPTB make me compromise myself again.
Heck.. I’ll buy tickets and GIVE them away. But I have to be true to myself first, or being true to David won’t mean squat.
I think we need some Angels here…
dawn65: I’m sure 80% of the people here will agree with you -- probably rascal, too.
You said, “How in heck do you even have a style at 16?” Well, how in heck do you have one at 18? David knows who he is as a person, his basic values, but he has said himself he is still figuring out his own style. A 16-year-old gets put into a “style” by HER TPTB. Maybe she’s a little smarter than she gets credit for (doesn’t that always happen to pretty young women?)
dawn65 -- you are 100% unequivocally right when you say all David needs is time. Unfortunately though, if he isn’t generating revenue, he will not be allowed that time.
Joner..PERFECTION is the word for David singing Angels..and another reminder why I find it hard to fathom David as an “opener” for anyone…but that’s just me.
OK, let’s see. It’s 9:30PM where David is…Or is he still there? Is he getting ready to leave? Is he already on the plane home? Or is he staying through Easter Sunday? Maybe doing a Fireside in Malaysia? Whatever David’s plans are, I’m posting this now as it makes ME feel better, especially if he’s traveling…
Dear Lord,
Please take care of David.
Amen.
Sweet dreams, David! Be secure in our love & support always. We are missing you badly and loving you madly! Have a safe trip home. Contigo siempre, con amour!
LOL! Oh, wow, such lively debate. I love it! Both sides!
Me too marlie7. He really brings out the fire in us. It comes from caring, and that is awesome.
Delurking to say Juliebug #308 — that post was STELLAR. Thank you.
joner, thanks. That Angels, again incredible.
I’m really interested to see how this tour will play out. August is a ways off. This will be AFTER his time in the UK and another AI appearance. I wonder what single he’ll be promoting at the time.
I know Demi has the Disney fan base but since David has sold more than twice the number of albums and has a platinum single it seems like their fan bases might be closer in size. That will make for an interesting dynamic if he opens for her.
I just can’t imagine them not having close to the same time on stage. Even though he might go first maybe is will be more of a 40/60 split.
I don’t know all the facts on this, but is it normal to open for someone who has sold less albums than you? It seems a little odd. Co-headlining seems more appropriate.
Look at his reception abroad, by August they might have to make adjustments to make it a co-headlining event if it isn’t already.
Hmmmm and when is he going to find time to write and record another album?
Sorry, I always come here to David ramble… my fiancé would be like Demi who?
Watching those videos from Malaysia, their reaction and love, makes my heart swell. So happy he is experiencing that abroad.
emmiegirl #346 .. “Unfortunately though, if he isn’t generating revenue, he will not be allowed that time.”
Generating revenue for who ?
David’s trip to Asia should attest to this fact. They didn’t follow him through hype, or advertising.. they love him…because they LOVE him. period.
Not all exposure is good exposure.
The way I see it.. Jive can try all they want to drive me away… and they’ll succeed in ONE way…but not the way that will count towards David’s longevity.
This is of course.. just my own opinion. I just don’t have the energy for this.
David can jump from label to label, management company to management company.. the fanbase he already has…will follow him whereever he goes. Gaining new fans… just a matter of time. But if they keep jamming him into the tween market.. it WILL drive away potential fans.
For a tween to like classic rock.. they’re considered cultured and broad minded. For a middle aged woman to follow an 18 year old wherever his heart takes him is another…throw another 16 year old in there.. and well… it gets beyond weird for me.
Reading through and digesting the contents of all the posts regarding the David -- Demi tour has driven home to me the importance of our support for David -- through thick and thin, ups and downs.
We have endured a lot, some of us older fans, in our support of David…. We’ve endured people who think we’re off our rockers, creepy or just crazy for liking and supporting his music….. Some have wrestled with their inner barometers and expectations, have faced gut checks and made compromises in many areas that, before David, were unassailable…That was all Before David.
Something deep within us knows that David is special, he is no ordinary 18 year old artist, that his music has different meaning and resonance to everyone who listens to it, who can open themselves up to be drawn into that magical kingdom he creates where space, time, age, race, gender, class, etc are meaningless..
So I’m pretty simple…I’ve reached the point where I don’t care if no one “gets” me “getting” David… I will proudly go to any venue, by myself if need be, to see this master artist perform if the opportunity presents itself, stand in the midst of teens, tweens, moms, dads, granddads, etc to show my support and love for his music…
I’ll defend him, cheerlead for him, do battle intellectually for him against the slings and arrows of ill informed critics and lazy journalists who, though entitled to their opinion, just won’t and don’t take the time to go beneath the surface, like the Asian journalists, to draw out the real David….
He didn’t ask for my support -- its been willingly given since Top 24 night, and I knew what I was getting into then… I knew supporting him was not going to be a smooth or linear process, that a thick skin, and unwavering faith in David the artist would be required to survive the inevitable tough times… keeps me grounded through all this, and thank goodness so many of us are coming forth to lay our feelings on the table… because we care for this young man… want the best for him… and will be there for him, at the end of the day… because.. he’s… David…..
Has this been posted yet?
Joner, That Angels has me weak in the knees…
dawn65 @ 0908: Tell me about your Sayerville experience. I want to hear. If it is too painful I will understand. Abreviated recap will suffice if nothing @ all. Re: most of your comments -- I’m with you all the way. Thanks.
Dawn65: I am most definitely on your ship with this whole thing.
NOT ALL EXPOSURE IS GOOD EXPOSURE
dawn65: “Generating revenue for who ?”
For whoever pays him and anyone who provides him with the services to produce records, videos, trips to Asia. He has to eat, he has to have money to pay a management team (whether we like them or not). David said it himself -- he runs a business, now. Do we want him starving in some half-formed studio while writing beautiful music no one will ever hear because he can’t pay the bills?
I would love David to open for someone huge, wonderful, talented. But apparently that isn’t going to happen this summer. And in the meantime, I think it is a terrible pressure to put on him to say he is compromising his values by touring with Demi Lovato.
Delurking again to give ggdoorsfan (#355) a big ((hug)).
Wow, your post described exactly how I feel, every single word!
I’ll put a “positive” twist on the Demi/David summer concerts. Hey, at least I can leave after David’s set.
So, do you think this means Minnie will be there to greet David upon his return home?
Well, I don’t know about you all, but I can hear the wheels spinning beneath the surface of The David Chronicles..”someone” is surely reading everyone’s concerns, good or bad, doing “his” own research into Demi, formulating “his” own opinions. I can feel other sites just waiting to hear “his” insights into the whys & wherefores of Jive’s strategy (if any) and why it will be a good thing or a bad thing for David.
But like GG said, and why my mind is open now to any and all the good that may come of this tour, at the end of the day, it IS all about David The Voice, so I’m here for him forever & always, through thick & thin.
Oh Joner you crack me up! Only you could make me laugh right now. Thanks for that.
Silverfox: Yes, I hear and feel those wheels spinning also. I am sure we will hear “his” word soon enough.
Not long ago, in an interview or blog or something he thanked everyone for coming to his solo concerts and said he hoped that the fans would continue to come to his upcoming concerts…looks like David is psychic.
I just do not understand the fretting. This is a 6 to 8-week micro minute in his career. Is Jive and his managers so right about the UK tour and so wrong about this one? I am not giving them the benefit of the doubt, I am giving them and David my trust.
marlie, you have made me cry at just the thought of David believing he has disappointed his fans for one second.
SF, you are a class act.
joner, your avi fits you perfectly.
I’m peeking out through my fingers waiting for Rascal’s response… that ferocious and razor sharp intellect is what kept me (intimidated) in lurker mode for so long… I still feel like a lightweight posting here, but am feeling freer about contributing when the desire strikes…
*back to lurking, and the mundane Saturday chores*
marlie #360 “I think it is a terrible pressure to put on him to say he is compromising his values by touring with Demi Lovato.”
I never said anything like that. I was the first to say to jello NOT to blame David..because it’s not his choice.
I’m not fretting.
I don’t like it, and I don’t have to. I don’t have to support the marketing plan to support David. I won’t let Demi be shoved down my throat because I want to support David.
Jello.. I was second in line..surrounded by a slew of 12 -- 14 year olds.. with their mothers. The looks were horrifying. Then I was approached across the street by two women wanting to know if I’d been to that club before. I said no, but my daughter used to go there when it was just a dance club.
they asked if it was safe to leave their children there. I said… it’s David …of course. It was at THAT moment they realized I was NOT there with a child. They said.. OH…you’re here for the concert ? To which I gladly admitted to. The looks they exchanged … and the fact the immediately fled from me.. unnerved me.
I love David.. I always have…always will. Being his fan comes with a price.. and I understand that.
On a personal level.. I have to draw the line somewhere. I don’t see that as a bad thing. I’ve applauded all that choose to move past it. Yet I continue to get challenged on my own personal stance.
I’m not advocating either way…whatever you each choose is your own personal choice and I support you. It doesn’t make anyone less or more a fan.
I just can’t do this.
On the other hand, perhaps “he” may think it’s all ado about nothing…it is after all, just a tour at a bunch of state fairs. (A 10 weeks long tour!). The REAL tour, the REAL test in a lot of opinions, is the UK Tour. After David takes the UK by storm…won’t it seem rather weird to see David at a bunch of state fairs opening (if that’s the case) for Demi. Well of course it will. So My guess is, it will be equal billing, as in “David AND Demi”, not Demi with David!
I’m also wondering where all our other esteemed columnists are? Perhaps those are the wheels I’m feeling? Liz, happy, TOfan, Kizzi, freofan? Wherefore art thou?
There is nothing quite like a Rascal review. Amazing. Welcome back Rascal. Looking forward to hearing more from you.
dawn65: I remember you telling me that story when I first posted @ jD. I feel for you. In OKC I had a few awkward moments also. I am so glad I went though!
And I am not blaming David! Hopefully I am more mature than that (barely, at times)!!
I react first….think later. Makes for a difficult life sometimes. I have become a master at eating my words and sticking my foot in my mouth. And my foot is not small!
Dawn(#354):
“For a tween to like classic rock.. they’re considered cultured and broad minded. For a middle aged woman to follow an 18 year old wherever his heart takes him is another…throw another 16 year old in there.. and well… it gets beyond weird for me.”
I totally share the sentiments.
When I attended the solo concert in Columbus, all around me were 15-16 year old girls with or without their mothers. I encountered quite a few looks while standing in line for hours. When the door finally opened, I shoved and pushed my way among the tweens/teens running toward the mosh pit – well, the embarrassment and discomfort was all worth it to hear him sing 16 songs. And now David is opening for someone else? And for a Disney star, who is even younger than he is and who name is unknown to people over 15? (Like someone said, if he is opening for someone else, it better be for U2!) It is going to be beyond weird to show up in this Demi thing--going to an 18-year-old’s solo concert is tough enough for many of his middle-aged female fans . Having said all of this, however, I am buying a ticket as soon as the dates are announced. I would just have to go to Archuleta Lost and Found to reclaim my dignity later. lol
Hi friends~
Well I wondered what the reaction would be to Demi/David pairing. While I was not doing jumping jacks and am thanking the Lord above that I went to see David in his own show because I was worried there may be no small intimate David only venues for some time and if/when that does happen, it may involve travel and tickets that would feed a family in a third world country for a year…. I will say that my daughter is of the disney age and of ALL the disney “talent” Demi Lavato is the one who I personally feel has the most organic talent and long term future. Walking by the tv, I have caught some of her stuff and while she is no David, I was very surprised, pleasantly with what I saw and heard. Disney may be her “avenue” just as AI was David’s. Not my ideal pairing but so much better than Miley or some of the other options, by a country mile. I know Miley and some of the other Disney folks are superstars, but…well.
However, Demi should open for David- because I do think their
fame/fan level is simlar. (probably the rose colored glasses I am wearing) It will be interesting to see who most of the fans appear for- I think Jive may be surprised, but suspect Disney will not when David brings em in.
YJfanofdavid -- lol
I would imagine the complexities and logistics of planning these types of things are quite numerous. We don’t know any of the specifics or other options, and why they did or didn’t work.
We have about a half a dozen of these fair-type, outside concerts with big-name stars here every year around the 4th of July. They average 5 to 6 thousand in attendance here. They are a family affair, all ages. If he comes our way, my husband and I will be in line.
Very nice, worth the wait!
If we believe “the Voice” cannot be denied, and David would win over fans and make his marks in the music industry ANYWAYS, say, even without using American Idol as the platform to launch his career, I just wonder….
If David did not get vocal paralysis at the critical age of 12, would he have been scooped up by Disney at around age 14?
Then, David would have come to us through Disney. Then, would we have loved him the way we did? Would we love him the way we do?
Sorry for rambling, I am not sure if this is relevant for the discussion here, but this Disney or not Disney thingy is throwing me off balance.
I do not care who he tours with. But I do wish that, with young up and coming stars, he gets to co-headline. I do think he needs many more teen fans. Honestly, a lot of teens around me still don’t know about the post AI David, and think that he maybe a one hit wonder, even though they love Crush. (Ducking tomatoes.)
Dawn, I get where you’re coming from. Really I do. I am one of David’s oldest fans, as you will see from my avatar. (which I will change as after I make my point).
I do plan to go to Del Mar. I’m not going to say I WILL be going to any of the state fair concerts. First of all, I’m not a state fair goer…that ended when my kids turned old enough to go by themselves. That fact that I have traveled long distances several times just to hear & see The Voice is, I think, testament to my severe ODD. That will not change simply because I may choose not to see him in concert with Demi. But maybe I will go, I don’t know at this point.
I do understand everything you feel and why. At our age, it’s not an easy thing to explain..our devotion to an 18 year old. It’s not easy to let the “looks” we get from the youngsters slide off our backs. I get that. I also get that you can be very supportive of David even if you DON”T go to his concerts. There are several die-hard fans who post right here who have never and most likely will never see David in concert as long as there are screaming teens in the audience. And that’s really a shame, cuz they will have to wait a long time before that happens. Bottom line, Dawn, I applaud you for your courage in taking a stand. At least you HAVE seen David in concert and at a personal price. If you choose not to go through that again, you have that right and you should not be made to feel otherwise. David will have other concerts. You & I will have many more opportunities to see The Voice, just not in a mosh pit environment, PUH-LEEZE!
Dawn #343
“Heck, I’ll buy tickets and GIVE them away…” Dawn, this is still supporting David, and I applaud you for that!
We all know how much you love David and I feel bad that the marketing plan is disappointing you (again). But your continual support, though in a different way, will keep David encouraged. I can imagine him saying, “Thank you guys for not leaving me. Give me a little bit of time. I have some growing up to do. Trust me, I will come back to find you in NO time. I love you from the bottom of my heart.”
Angelica --> “I tried to worry about it for a few minutes but my heart just wasn’t buying it. He has proven to me over and over, that I can trust him to make whatever comes his way work for him.”
Amen and {{hug}}
Not all exposure is good exposure. TMZ sucks, for example (though I s’pose some would say even THAT is beneficial.) But frankly, imo, being paired with young stars with high-profile Disney muscle behind them and exposure to his own demographic is not bad exposure. I can’t stand Miley. (Demi is far preferable, and I’m not wild about her, either, from what little I know. I suppose that could change, if I put the effort into it. Not gonna happen.) But I know exposure through broad portals like MC, Disney — to his potential peer fan base — is just plain smart (I might even go so far as to say “responsible”) marketing. Period. In fact, I’m kinda thinkin’ it would be absurd not to market him to those potential fans. Don’t hafta like it. But it is what it is.
David will do fine. He will remain himself. He will grow. He will evolve. Nothin’s gonna stop that. I certainly know that those of us who really “get” him and love him (that would be everybody here, and most lurkers) will always follow his career. And we can support him in ways that suit us, individually. As it should be. Oui? Non?
I wonder how many times I have said this: I am not worried about David. I trust the Archulator. And I don’t see this “opening act” next move as a career killer. I hope it accomplishes what it seems obvious it is trying to accomplish. Whatever develops, David will remain true and will prevail… in one way or another. Any which way he does prevail will be with integrity intact.
I ain’t gettin’ my knickers in a twist over this one, folks.
And Jello, you go girl. We love you. (Wanna arm wrestle?)
I said, “There are several die-hard fans who post right here who have never and most likely will never see David in concert as long as there are screaming teens in the audience. And that’s really a shame, cuz they will have to wait a long time before that happens”…
what I should have said is “screaming females, young & old!”
See ya’ll later!
Emotionally I am spent. See you all later.
I feel that this lack of full info. is testing us again. But in the end, as how it always goes down, the “Unconditional Love” will win out.
Sorry, you’re waiting for Rascal, but keep getting me.
Bye!
{{beebee}} I am always up for a wrestle or two! Except for now….my mind is tired.
BTW….I just love looking at my avatar! Sometimes I just post silly stuff so I can see it!! Haha.
SF: You are not old, and you do not even look even close to “old”- Don’t let the color of her hair fool you folks.
What ever old is, that ain’t you. You had more energy than most and it is contagious.
Am I really going to be 49 years old next month????!!!! Ugh!
I really do love this place and do not ever want to leave. So don’t ask me to…k?
Peruu --> “I can imagine him saying, “Thank you guys for not leaving me. Give me a little bit of time. I have some growing up to do. Trust me, I will come back to find you in NO time. I love you from the bottom of my heart.”
Loved that. {{hug}} Getting you is a lovely deal.
(And, hey, we’re ALWAYS waiting for rascal. :p )
{{jello}} heehee, I don’t really wanna wrestle.
I think the beautiful NoCal weather today has made me a little *frisky*.
Dawn65: I unwittingly attributed that comment to you -- I apologize! I was only addressing your first point about the payola.
The rest was in talking in general to other commentors, air, my dog. LOL
Unlike Jello I don’t realy worry whether my posts ar noteworthy or not, and I tend to be rather critical, too. I”m just content to share in the love of David expressed here in so many ways- ranting, gushing or hair-splitting analysis of his music.
I LOVE Angels. All of his performances of this song are ethereal, outer-wordly. It was the only video I was in the mood for watching this morning just because I’m a little not too happy about the Demi thing, either.
And please, my beloved angels, don’t diss the cd too much, ok? It’s all, us, international fans actually have right now. I know his live performances have made the songs better, but I love my cd and listen to it religiously. The day he comes my way, I’ll be there elbowing through the tweens shamelessly!
I’m ascared I might be sent to the woodshed. I stand here with switch in hand.
Bringing this over from IDF — written by Soundscene, a highly-respected poster. Her perspective on this tour is very interesting and she makes so many valid points. Definitely food for thought.

Why I Think It’s OK, And Maybe Even Cool That David Is Touring With Demi Lovato (Assuming This Is True Which I Think It Is)
Before it was ever confirmed as fact, there were rumors about David touring with a whole host of people—Miley Cyrus, the Jonas Brothers, Leona Lewis and, yes, Demi Lovato. When I first heard “Demi Lovato,” I thought that she would be the worst choice of the bunch. My initial reaction was—“she’s not as popular as Miley, she’s not more popular than David, she’s Disney—he’ll get labeled the Disney label by touring with her but without the big arena tour.” I thought there would be no point to such a tour—that it wouldn’t help David.
After some thought, and after researching Demi, I’ve come to understand why touring with her could be a benefit to David. And why, in an artistic way, it may be better than touring with Miley, the Jonas Brothers or Leona Lewis.
Every generation has the cool kids—the group of youngins’ that essentially represent the future of the entertainment industry. And, because Hollywood must be a very small place, they all seem to know each other and they all seem to work with each other. In the 80s, it was the Brat Pack—movie actors that were all the next big thangs. And some of them wound up being big things—Demi Moore and Rob Lowe moved way past their Brat Pack days, and others are still working quite steadily. In the 90s, there was the first group of Disney kids coming up—JC Chasez, Keri Russell, Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake, Ryan Gosling, etc.
Right now—we have Disney/Nick kids, with a side of their friends. This includes Miley, the JoBros, Selena Gomez, Demi Lovato, Taylor Swift, etc. They all know each other and are bffs, bf/gfs, friends, enemies or frienemies. Point is—they’re the next big thangs. They’re not just Disney—they’re actually the up-and-coming in entertainment. Whether their songs are played on the radio or not, mainstream media actually pays attention to them. Demi may not be Miley famous—but she’s hardly just another Disney star. She opened for the Jonas Brothers last year; she released a full album two weeks before David did and it also debuted at #2 on the Billboard 200. Her songs sell pretty well on iTunes. She’s up-and-coming, and she’s actually quite talented. Plus, she’s very popular as a person even if David sells more albums and singles.
So what is Jive thinking having David open for Demi (and this is a guess—but it really looks like he’s opening given the way Ticketmaster lists the Hartford show)? First off, I personally think David is better than an opening slot on this particular tour, but I also know that he’s just getting started, and that Demi has built up an audience outside of music that will come to her shows (she has a TV show, she was in the movie Camp Rock). I think her tour was planned and then David was probably added onto it—it’s about timing and opportunity. Jive wants David out there touring and, you know, I think David wants to be out there touring. This is just another way to grab more fans and for David to gain more experience in front of larger crowds. Plus, if I had to guess, I would think Disney really wants David on this tour because, if he’s opening, he’s a great opening—bringing in a solid fan base of his own to the shows. Most opening acts can’t do that. David can. If Disney was at all worried about Demi filling certain larger venues, David is there to help out with that.
I also think that Jive wants David considered a part of young Hollywood, the future of entertainment. One of the “cool kids.” These stars cover a large portion of the landscape of entertainment for a certain segment of fans—namely kids, tweens and teens. And some of these stars will transition to become big stars as adults. They’ll take their young fans with them, and those fans can be very loyal. I think that’s exactly what Jive wants with Jordin Sparks, who is touring with the Jonas Brothers this summer. Even though Jordin has had more radio success than the Jonas Brothers, she doesn’t have what they do—those young fans. Jordin isn’t part of “the group.”
David pairs with Demi and he’s associated with the group. He appears on Hannah Montana and he’s associated with the group. We can downplay the position Demi holds in the group, but that would be downplaying what she’s becoming, which very well could be a successful and credible musician and actress. David doesn’t sell out arenas right now. He’s not there yet. Demi is very popular—more popular than I even realized at first. Her performance of the National Anthem last Thanksgiving at a Cowboys game as over 1.6 million views on youtube. She currently trends higher on google trends than David.
David has a more diverse fan base—kids, tweens, teens, and a lot of adults. But Demi may have more of the younger fan base than he does. Their fans don’t overlap entirely (and maybe not even a whole lot yet), so David could benefit in the key youth demographic. It’s very easy to discredit the importance of that demographic, but if David can grab them now, he can keep them into adulthood simply because he’s so talented. They can grow as he does.
As far as artistry goes—Demi is a far better match with David than Miley. She writes a lot of her own songs, she plays guitar and piano, she sings in Spanish, and she’s a far better singer than Miley. She’s got a lot of spunk, and has really great stage presence. She’s also not a gossip rag girl. Indeed, she seems like a pretty classy 16-year-old. She’s got a pop-rock sound—a little like Avril Lavigne. And she’s pretty good live. Overall, it would be a better concert experience, I think, than if he toured with Miley or the Jonas Brothers. (And a better fit for him as an 18-year-old pop singer than a tour with Leona).
Jive is concentrating on the younger demo right now, and I think that’s absolutely fine. This offers David some benefits that we may not see play out until later. He’s still young, and he’s got a lot of career ahead of him. Also, remember, David is with Jive. David’s second album is what Jive will use to keep him in the mainstream (including radio). That ALTNOY wasn’t successful doesn’t mean that a single off the second album won’t be. I highly doubt Jive will keep David strictly in the youth demo, without attempting to appeal to a larger mainstream radio audience. Not every song Jive puts out is a hit, but they do far better than other labels.
So if you go to this tour, have fun. We’ll probably come to love Demi in the end. END QUOTE
SF -- were you paging moi?
beebee -- great visual of your “knickers” -- agree with your philosophy 100%.
Here is my “twist” (haha) -- His voice will shine through no matter where he sings; his voice is his credibility; his voice, his artistry is why we are here and frankly the places I have gone to hear him sing live have been varied and not at all my style in the past so I’ll probably go and listen to Demi to hear him too whether he opens or she opens. His CD is sweet, youthful pop so that is his crowd….and sweet I can only claim to be at rare intervals and youthful I am only in spirit -- haha!
Younger Avril Lavigne: Yes, that is who she reminds me of. Like I said, honesetly of the whole Disney crew, that I
get second hand exposure, she is the only one that I actually stopped and noticed. David will keep me young, I just wish he could keep me thin- maybe if I drink more water- the David diet. ok- got to get my car in to the shop. Have a great day all.
One thing about the Asian tour….
http://ignited-candle.blogspot.com/2009/04/david-archuleta-showcase-2009.html
I never thought I’d see these words about David….under the picture she took standing with David…
“David Archuleta had his arms around me!!! XD
OMG!!!! It was totally priceless, ok? And I was wearing 2.5 inch heels next to him….. He is TALL!!!”
Ahahahahahaha!
More from Soundscene re: the tour
This was Demi’s tour. Although Hollywood Records is faulty in a lot of areas, the one thing they know how to do really well is plan a tour. They’re great at it. Jive, even though I still think it’s a better label (and hope we don’t get into a debate on that topic), is not as great with tours. Its huge artists get big tours (Justin, Britney and CB), but it’s not-as-huge artists don’t get much spending money up front to support solo tours. Which is why Jive puts those artists on opening slots with bigger tours from other labels. This is an example of that happening.
Hollywood [Records] kind of thrusts its up-and-comers into the spotlight right away, like they’re doing with Demi. They’ve got the full power of Disney behind them to do it, so it’s a bit easier on that front for them than other labels. They took advantage of it with Miley (nobody really knew that her Best of Both Worlds tour would do so incredibly--they found out after tickets started selling like hotcakes), they did it with the JoBros (who they placed on the Best of Both Worlds tour as an opener until they rose in popularity to warrant their own huge tour), and they’re doing it with Demi (who opened for the JoBros on their huge tour--you see the pattern here?). David is getting in on that action.
The pattern I see….Big tour for David next year?
Hi All—I’ve been lurking, but just wanted to pipe up and say that I agree with Juliebug about the need for David to get the exposure and more experience here in the US. Unfortunately, the market is brutal here, very unforgiving and judgmental. I for one love the young man—he is going to be one of the greatest performers in musical history, I just know it. But right now, he has to pay his dues. I looked at the link that was posted above that announced the Demi/David pairing, and many of the comments from Demi fans were not positive. So, he still needs to rope some of those teen nonbelievers in!! They are, after all, the generation that he will be growing with. To continue his carrer for a life time, he will need to have them on his side. Also, I think David himself will have a blast working with teens. I know he loves his older fans, but whenever I’ve seen him with kids his age, he has seems happy, goofy, relaxed. I am 51, and I wish he sang just to me and my age group, because I just adore him. But, in reality, he is a teen, and needs to be with teens. His talent is enormous—he will raise the bar for all performers. But right now, I think he will be excited to work with Demi. JMHO. Sorry for rambling!
David is only going to be a teenager for how much longer? 18 months, give or take? At what age does Disney say ‘see ya’? We can wait this thing out; it won’t last forever.
Dawn/jello and others: You have my utmost respect and I want you to know that I do agree with you on all counts. I, too, experienced looks from tweens while waiting online outside the Sayreville venue. A group of tweens in front of us turned around to look at me because I was telling my friend about all of David’s next stops. At first I felt foolish but that went away fast. I am old enough to like who I like and nobody is going to make me feel badly. Who knows how much longer these tweens will be fans of David’s? I know they don’t appreciate him the same way we do. Yes, they think he has a nice voice and that he’s hot but at their age, a nice voice isn’t the most important thing. They will be exposed to many more hot artists in their lifetime. But, we’ve already been down that road and have the experience to know that David is the real deal for us.
I’m getting off track here, but the easiest way I can explain my feelsings is that I am just stepping outside the box, if you will. I have willingly put on blinders because I don’t want to lose sight of the prize: seeing David Archuleta live, in concert. I’ve never met him and only seen him that one time in Sayreville, where my view left a lot to be desired. I don’t want to miss any chance of seeing him again, ever, if I can.
For me, not liking his co-headliner or the path Jive set for him is irrelevant right now. He is evolving into an artist with limitless possibilites and thrills me beyond words. David will prevail. How can I NOT go to one of his shows, should it come my way?
As Dawn said, “…I have to be true to myself first, or being true to David won’t mean squat.”
Well, Valbraz, I am glad you are not like me! I’ve always cared what others think of me and that kinda s**** sometimes.
Thank you to the voices of reason: stenocruiser, beebee, peruu, marlie, gg, juliebug, and everyone else I’ve forgotten plus those of us reserved lurkers who just can’t seem to jump into the discussion. I too was thinking that David would be touring with someone more known—David certainly deserves it. But, since it just didn’t happen (I don’t think we’ll ever know enough about the behind-the-scenes management), David’s inner and outer lights will keep shining and drawing people closer no matter where or who he is with.
As a teacher, I’ve noticed that both tweens/teenagers, at least the ones in my area, aren’t the fans who truly “get” him as we do. If they’re talking about David, it’s usually about how cute he is or it’s about his popularity with older fans (yes, they do notice it). So, maybe the tour with DL isn’t such a bad idea. And David seems so perky when in the middle of his peers.
Dawn, thank you for encouraging me to delurk. I too attended one of David’s concerts (in fact, it was my very first one, ever) all alone. For me, however, I stood in line and, later at the mosh pit, with a great mixture of fans who were very kind to me. The voice and the camaraderie made for a night I’ll never forget.
I’m having a tough time scrolling down all these posts. Please divi them up after 300, if possible.
Regarding David’s summer tour, I believe that the members of this site have been officially put in their place. We are not the target audience that Jive Records are “selling” to. At this point in his career, David is a “teen idol” and his “customers” are teens. Demi Lovato will sell out her venues, and having an up and coming , cute guy like David is perfect for the “suits” who are in this for the money.
David will, of course, be fantastic at these concerts, and his fan base will expand, as it does wherever he goes. Just because David has many fans of “a certain age” does not make them his target audience.” Those who feel betrayed here need to realize that David’s career is not about us, it is about his record label. At this stage in his career, it’s about exposure, exposure, exposure. David is appearing everywhere, which is a great thing. This is no Mickey Mouse (pun intended) tour. David is not “above’ this tour, and will benefit greatly by being a part of it. We need to check our egos at the door here, and be more like David. David’s label does not “owe” us anything, and it is
unreasonable and, frankly, naive, to think otherwise.
If you have not watched Angels from Joner #344, you’ve got to! Thanks, Joner.
I loved it. But especially from 2.00 to 2.15 and the soaring ending, with the crowds cheering anticipation. Just wow.
bliss, been wondering where you were -- nice perspective.
Stenocruiser, thanks for bringing that over from Soundscene. “I also think that Jive wants David considered a part of young Hollywood, the future of entertainment. One of the “cool kids.”
I get that impression, as well. And Juliebug, Jive setting the groundwork for his own big headlining tour in 2010 seems very likely.
And guys, look at it this way, it’ll be easier for us to get tickets for (and easier to stomach) a DL concert than a JoBros show. (Not that I’d necessarily stick around for the second half, lol.)
I’m in agreement with those who feel this is NBD. How often has David said how much it means to him to interact with kids his own age and he lights up at the prospects of doing more of it, so why not. I don’t care who’s on the bill with him as long as he’s out there doing his thing and I get to watch. I can blend in and pretend to be someone’s mom. I also don’t get caught up in who’s opening for who. Remember how amazed David was when Kanye opened for him at MSG? As long as he’s doing a full set I’m good with it and I’ll probably get home a lot earlier. So nice he’s coming back to Hartford. It was the first time I saw him and now he’s comin around again. I’ll be there.
To Bliss and just about everyone else here:
I certainly do not feel as though David’s label, or David for that matter, “owes” me anything at all. And I most definitely do NOT feel “betrayed”. The bottom line for me is this:
I am worried about David being taken seriously as an artist and I do not believe that a Disney tour will help in that respect. Outside of his rabid and devoted fanbase this seems to be a current problem.
On a lighter note (yes, I do have them occasionally-sp?), I am accepting of this tour now and wish him the best. He shall have fun. Whoopee. There…I said it. Now I need to rest. Bye.
It is becoming more and more apparent that I am in the minority here. The mass rules. I surrender.
God Bless You David. I love your music!
Now I am going to watch some very old vids of my OTHER favorite Mormon…Donny Osmond! That’s right! I went to see The Osmond Bros at the Allentown State Fair way back in the day and I found some clips on YT. I wanted Donny to wait for me…..but he went and married some Mormon chick and lived happily ever after. Sigh.
bliss #402 I hear your pain about the long comment thread. If we could hide the first 300 comments, we would, but with this setup it doesn’t work. We’ll rotate posts more frequently in the future and this problem will mostly go away.
Right about now, I am knee deep in lost faith…
But, I have faith in David and all that he has done and all that he is going to be doing. His schedule backwards is this…UK, Asia, Solo Tour 2009, I.carly, many interviews and guest appearances, awards etc., Jingle Balls ( as silly as the name sounds ), AI huge tour,…and on and on…just believe.
River reminded me (earlier) to watch the vid of David singing “Angels”.
I LOVED IT! What a treat… we’ve heard this song so many times, but here comes another performance that cuts to the core of my heart!
And then I noticed the man in the background, appearing over David’s right shoulder. I went back and re-watched the vid, just to see this man’s reaction to David… he is ‘rockin’ to the music almost from the very beginning, tapping his foot in time… and really gets into to performance from about 1:35 to the end! I love watching how people react (positively) to David’s singing, especially since this is an older guy!!! LOL
I was grinning the whole time… and now I must get back to the ‘real world’ and prepare for tomorrow.
SF ~ I hope you’re checking your e-mail, regarding DEL MAR!
“David’s label does not “owe” us anything, and it is
unreasonable and, frankly, naive, to think otherwise”
I don’t think anyone here indicated that the label owes us anything.
I absolutely think David is above this.
If Demi is so “popular” .. why has she only sold 300K albums..and she’s been around and known a LOT longer than David.
Apparently her HUGE fanbase is that of the non “supportive” type.
I thought I could step away and regroup..and feel better once I came back on here, but it’s not working.
I don’t know who said it earlier…. and I apologize for not being able to locate the post.. but yes… David only has 18 months left to be a teenager… so this Disney ride should be short lived. THANK YOU for reminding me of that. It may be my only saving grace in this so far.
and with that I’m off to watch some TV, do some laundry, and push the Disney truck out of my head. but jello.. I had purple socks… did you ? LOL.. love ya honey.
Where’s David… I need him to Save The Day.
SF .. thank you for understanding.. and you are not old..you are seasonably stunning.
A bit off topic but just wanted to mention to those going to Del Mar… It is prime time in June July and August so I would not wait to make hotel reservations. Now is definitely better than later. A lot of summer tourists going to all parts of San Diego will be booking in and around Del Mar. San Diego is only 15 minutes to Del Mar so almost anywhere in the city would work too…
Topic at hand… Generating a lot of wild comments (Demi that is…). I absolutely cannot wait to “see” the discussion during and after the UK!! I personally couldn’t handle David’s opening act on his tour but that didn’t stop me at all. I really wasn’t there to see her. What was her name again??
Gmalil..yes, email received. Made me very happy! I will be there! Thank you!
Hi there, Kizzi, Liz, TOfan! Where have you been?
I have to say one thing, but please hold the tomatoes til I’m finished…those who choose not to go to the Demi/David concerts for whatever reason..it is your right not to do so. DO NOT let anyone make you feel bad or make you feel like you aren’t supporting David. Those who will go come hell or high water…great! Good for you! But please do not put down those who won’t or can’t go. There are plenty of David’s fans who have never been to his concerts and no one puts them down. Everyone has their reasons one way or another. And now, since we have been “put in our place”, it just makes some older fans wonder if WE should even be seen at his concerts, since WE aren’t his target audience. I’m thinking perhaps that is Jive’s strategy..keep the older fans at bay. I understand how it looks to people who don’t get David, who don’t appreciate The Voice. I’m willing to bet though that if they could calculate how much money teens versus older fans have spent supporting David, I would not be surprised if the latter group has put a much higher percentage in Jive’s coffers. I know that sounds so petty, but if money is what it’s all about, it is what it is.
I love David Archuleta. He is a very important part of my life. I actually need him in my life. I can’t imagine going back to the way it was before David. I will always support David one way or another. I think everyone here feels the same, even the one’s who are not going to David’s summer tour.
Oh, and I’m keeping my avatar for a while longer..it brings back such sweet memories **sigh**
My two cents on the Demi/David collaboration…
My biggest problem with the majority of artists (and I’m using that term lightly) in the Disney stable is that they all seem rather cheesy to me, and over-processed cheese at that.
There is no doubt that Disney has been the force behind many successful teenage careers, however my personal perception of those careers has always been that the “talent” would be considered mediocre if it wasn‘t for Disney‘s marketing skills and their ability to “manufacture” artists that have no real artistic substance. I fear there is a stigma attached to that perception, a stigma that I don’t want rubbing off on David, his career or the respect he is entitled to as an artist.
He’ll definitely get a lot of buzz from the association with Demi, which is great, I just hope he gets some crackers with the cheese.
SF -- love your avatar! You are psychic my friend. We were all underground turning the wheels around, and now we are back.
mikesd Hi! Del Mar FTW!
And Rascal, my eloquent friend, before your article moves off the front page, I want to quote a favorite part:
“But at the end of the day it is The Voice. For many people, there is an unmistakable tone, a timbre, a frequency of some kind that David produces which, at certain moments, pierces through every emotional barrier, every cynical thought, and touches a place of deep and abiding tenderness…”
What is it about the quality of his voice that has spoiled me for any other? Other singers seem lacking to me now, pleasant perhaps, but not mesmerizing. There is a warmth, a fullness, a vulnerability to his sound. I wonder if I would feel this same way if, for some reason, I could only hear the voice on its own, without seeing David’s beauty, and without knowing anything about the person behind it? Interesting question. I think so, yes. I think the voice is that powerful. There is that “unmistakable tone” that grabs me and aligns my heart with something true and pure, and “touches a place of deep and abiding tenderness.”
Hey all…..WHEW!!! Great comments from all…pro and con, all valid points. We’re all a diverse group of people…all do what is comfortable… in the end there is no question that we all love DAVID!!!!!!!!! {{{{{hugs to all}}}}

I think we need some Angels here…
Just watched …. this sums it all for me
To dawn :
Oh baby, you’ve got nothin’ on me…….my entire bedroom in Pennsylvania was painted purple with coordinating purple-flowery wallpaper!! I adore my parents!! They “got” my Donny obsession! LOL
I am a very small fish in this pond, maybe scum to some, haha, but here goes. I really don’t think anyone here would intentionally, maybe accidentally, but not intentionally, put someone down for their personal feelings and opinions. I do know that MY writing and verbal skills are not as developed or tactful, or what-have-you, as the majority here. Thus, I truly hope that none of my words have come across as a put down or lack of respect. I personally have felt no disrespect from anyone through their words or lack of. This all really is about nothing but love. And boy is he loved!
Most of us here are of the age that we have strong opinions and feelings, but that same life experience has also given us valuable insight in respecting others. Look around the web, this site is a freaking lovefest, even on our worst days.(And I mean that as a compliment.)
emmiegirl…..awwww…a “freaking lovefest”…..I love the sound of that. What a nice description…..not so sure I am feeling the “love” part right now but all is good I suppose.
But you are right. It is all about our love for David and I know that.
juliebug -- brought this over from FOD…
Ed D’Great says:

Good morning all FODers! What a beautiful Saturday, even if we are still on Holy Saturday, tomorrow is Easter. Tomorrow, we will rejoice!
Hi GG, thank you for posting the rant and ramble of JulieBug. I can’t help but agree with her. I will have my own rant and ramble here.
Last night when I dropped by here to see what’s new, I read the summer tour of David, but this time, as I understand it and if I got it right, he will just be an opening act of some-I-dont-know-never-heard-girl named Demi Lovato. I said, who is she? Continued reading, my heck, a 15 years old. I always feel that David deserves to be the main act, not the front, and I said to myself, I am definitely not going to see this tour. Why should I? I’m a golden Archie guy coming to a concert of a 15 years old girl, what’s wrong with me? Am sure I’ll be laughed at and ridiculed a lot, might be viewed as creepy. Even if I would come with my 2 grown up daughters in their 20’s, it does seem not right to see a concert of a 15 years old girl!!!! Plus the fact that David is not the main dish, why should I care? David’s concert in Buffalo last March 3rd, I drove south crossed the border with a lot of enthusiasm and excitement to see David live and of course to meet my fellow FODers. But this coming summer tour, am not sure if am going to do that. My mind was tentative, negative at best.
But after reading JulieBug’s, somehow something just hit me, and it hit me well. She has enlightened my darkened opinion. I am going to see the summer tour, even if am alone going there (I mean without my daughters), well if it would be in Toronto or around New York state where I can drive. I’d like to support David and he NEEDS me, he NEEDS each one of us to where we would like him to be, at the TOP. He is the one and only reason why my love of music has come back and am so grateful for that. I realized this morning, who cares if I am surrounded by tweens and teens, at my age, I have to enjoy what I would like to enjoy, his music. I can easily disappear stand at the very back so that it will not be so obvious. Or I could view myself as a dad of these tweens and teens. Haha. Who cares? My purpose is to support David and not what other people might think of me. Period. Sorry for the rant!
I have no worries about the dreaded “Disney stigma” rubbing off on David, nor do I fear his credibility as a serious artist being compromised by his association with a Disney artist on this upcoming tour. Maybe Jive is using Taylor Swift as an example or model for David in this instance…. she appeared with the Jonas Brothers on their Burning Up tour last year. She has been linked in the media with many Disney stars, like Miley Cyrus and Selena Gomez.
While I don’t care for her style of country music, her appearances on the JB tour exposed her to a wider audience, brought in a ton of new fans, but her credibility in the media as a “serious” artist hasn’t been affected…she has gained critical and public respect and acceptance as a singer/songwriter, and is an veritable CD selling MONSTER after her exposure on the JB tour. No one, to my knowledge, labels her “Disney” for these appearances or ties to those artists in their stable.
David, for better or worse, will forever be linked with American Idol.. For better or worse, Idol is the platform and the “machine” that made him a star, so I can’t see the Lovato tour or his association with Disney artists in this manner “Disneyfying” him… I’m more squicked out by his “association” with some of his labelmates on Jive -- Chris Brown, R Kelley anyone?
I get it already. Juliebugs post was the bestest of all the best posts in the entire best universe. Doesn’t mean I agree with it 100%…lol
All these eloquent posters are getting the “bestest” of me. I think I need a chocolate break.
Demi is not my first choice for a touring partner, but I am alright with it. David needs the exposure, and I think he will have fun, gain more experience and tons of new fans.
How popular is she? Though I wasn’t fond at all of her National Anthem sung in November, do you see that it has gotten 1,710,782 hits!!
That’s a lot of fans to expose to David who don’t even know who he is, beyond AI. Wow, are they in for a surprise!
Trying again:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PIv1YM7XL0c
Listened to the National Anthem—-eeek!! You can definitely tell the difference between David, who has been formally vocally trained for years and has technically controlled breathing, and someone who screams the vocals. I’m sorry, I thought she was somewhat terrible.
LOL! I just listened to the National Anthem, too, and I did have to chuckle. Her phrasing just doesn’t work. She is screechy, and she could hardly get her breath. But, then, we are used to listening to David sing that. There is no comparison between David’s voice and Demi’s. And won’t that be interesting on tour
Don’t be sorry Freo. That’s why this tour pairing is such a WTF??
Daffy, sorry..could not listen to the whole thing..now I feel so unpatriotic..thanks a lot Daffy!
Seriously..she was bad as in B A D, not bad as in Da Bomb good, but bad as in bad! Not good.
mbmonchi -- I’m not a religious person, but that “O Holy Night” of David’s could just about push me into the fold!!!! Stops me in my tracks every time, day or night, Christmas or Labor Day. GAH!!!!
I learn so much here! All POVs regarding the DL and DJA pairing are so intriguing, I can sure see both sides. My 2 cents = if Jive is cultivating teens/tweens, I say *go get ‘em!* I hope they pony up and lasso ‘em wherever any might be found. I want David to have ALL the fans, no matter who he steals them from! Might as well be Demi’s! (oops, not a very David-like thought! lol)
rae -- “David will keep me young, I just wish he could keep me thin” -- haha -- You know, he *can*… just put ZG on twice a day and jump, Jump, JUMP!!!
mikesd -- thank you for the prompting about SD hotel accommodations… good point, gotta get on that!
Jello,
I hope you feel the love!
I believe no one is disapproving of anyone’s opinions and concerns here. NDers-come-JDers-come-Chroniclers simply try to encourage different points of view. We’re probably trying to convince ourselves that everything will be fine.
By the way, I worry about people’s opinions, but as long as I’m not disrespecting anyone I just shrug my ‘mental’ shoulders.
I thought she oversang, too, just all over the place on single notes, bad breathing, very sloppy. I hate when singers nowadays do that, as very few can do it well but it seems to be fashionable. Just on a technical level, David is eons ahead of her.
I’m sorry if I am over the top on debating. When I grew up, our kitchen dinner table every night was a debater’s heaven. We were encouraged to back up our claims with facts, insight, and critical thinking. And no one was astonished if a little emotion and intensity accompanied it. Lot’s of good debates and lots of laughter. When I married my husband, his family felt that expressing a different opinion to “guests”, older people or, actually, in almost any situation was disrespectful. Whew! What a crazy few early years we had.
So, I apologize and want you all to know that this is like the kitchen table and you all are like the family.
I, for one LOVE it here! I loved nD & jD for the same reasons. Not boring, at times very lively! We all can agree to disagree. We are all bonded, whether we agree or not about the issues at hand, by our love, admiration, respect and wish for nothing but the best for David. As long as that’s understood, then it’s all good.
So has anyone heard if David is on his way home or is he still in Malaysia?
Here’s my pipe dream for a release of David and Mike’s “ZG”:
Check out the “iTunes Pass” for “The Fray Live” with its live audio and video tracks…. then IMAGINE that the video folks who did the SLC show edited their gleanings to create such a “live” release for David.
Then, IMAGINE that they keep filming over the UK and summer performances, and keep adding tracks in to said “iTunes Pass”.
Sigh… a girl can dream (and Sky High at that!)
I was listening to Z100, NYC, today advertising a summer tour performance of about 6-9 artists (Black Eyed Peas, NeYo, Jesse mcCartney etc etc) probably all 19 artists. I’m thinking “well thank god David’s not doing one of these deals”. Basically it’s just a Jingleball and if David were part of this tour he’d be doing just 4/5 songs as before. I fully expect that if he is a co headliner, and I cannot imagine he won’t be billed as that, he will be doing far more than a few opening songs for much more credit. guess I am grateful for small favors. I’m definetly looking for the glass half full.

American Idol finalist Archuleta wows 6,000 fans
Liz, thanks for doing whatever is possible regarding my “scrolling” problem.
As for David, here’s the deal. It absolutely does nbot matter who else is on any bill with him. Right now, David is the best singer and stage persona in the world. These videos of David in Asia puts any doubts to rest. They adore him, respect him and cannot get enough of him. This scenerio will be repeated in England and anywhere else he goes. David is unstoppable, and getting better every day. I say, relax everybody, and enjoy everything about David. There is so much to enjoy about him. It could be worse. They could have made him King of Malaysia, and we’d never see him again

Idol runner-up wows crowd
Bliss, lol. Donning the Baju Melayu, David does look a bit like a royal, doesn’t he? Love your enthusiasm!
Highervibe #438, you read my mind! When I read about The Fray and their upcoming $17 iTunes Pass release, I immediately thought of the potential for David’s amazing live performances.
Here’s the section of the article that particularly got my attention:
“The songs and videos are to be mostly recorded live while the band is on tour. Instead of waiting months or years for the live recordings to be released on an album, buyers will get them within weeks or even days of their performance.”
If this marks a trend for the recording industry, it seems tailor-made for David. Can. Not. Wait.
Good evening worried people in the kitchen…My simple little view is this…if you care to read please and consider…
David had a solo tour…a major event in his early career. He was worried and astonished to see that people actually came out to listen to him and he was honest about his amazement…
How and why in the world could he have a second tour planned in advance until he saw for himself and for everyone else’s self…just how it would go, how many venues would be sold out, how well received he would be. After all going solo is a monumental task for the first time especially. If by any chance it was a flop…heaven forbid how that could have happened…having a second tour on the burner could have been a disaster and you have to look at all of the possible scenarios…
In our thoughts…because he is the BOMB…we are impatient including me. I still have belief that this will be how he would want it to be…
MY NEW AVI HAS ARRIVED!!…IT IS A VERY RARE BUTTERFLY…TO ME THIS IS HOW DAVID HAS EVOLVED…AND HAS ARRIVED IN SUCH MAGNIFICENCE. It will not be changed for a very long time…
Just to share this post at Snarky Archies
http://www.snarkyarchies.com/2009/04/angst-of-older-fan.html
Angst of an Older Fans
Please don’t misunderstand: I appreciate all the reasons people much smarter than I have given for why this upcoming tour is great for David. I understand that I have a skewed perspective on his real popularity and what is best for him right now in the larger scope of the music industry. I have no problem with his touring with a young Disney star, despite my dramatic statements to the contrary. Yay, Hurray, Go David Go! Archuvato for the win! Do whatever you need to get where you want to go!
So here’s the thing:
I hopped on the David-train a year ago because he is a human being and an artist worthy of my deepest love and support. I have given that support in the ways I know how and have learned to be content to let the train take me where it will.
I used to try to figure out why I was on the train and when I would get to my destination so that I could get off. The train is noisy, bumpy, unfamiliar, frustrating, expensive and often gives me a stomachache. But every so often I will catch a view out the window that takes my breath away and transcends the noise and the discomfort and the hard and painful things I go through. I have lived long enough in life to know that such ‘views’ are not to be taken for granted. So I’m content to stay on the train.
Over the months, I have even become comfortable with the ride. I can easily overlook the things I don’t like because I know what is coming. And I’ve met the most amazing people who are sharing this ride with me and they make the journey easier.
But I’m a little worried about all the new people boarding. They think it’s the definition of creepy that I’m on the David-train because, after-all, he’s only 18 and he’s sooooo cute and they are surely going to marry him and just ICK that I would be along for the ride because, well, I’m not a teenage girl. He’s hot! He’s single! That’s what this is all about! Why are YOU here they ask me? This is OUR train!
I try to tell them about the artist David is and how I was one of the first ones on the train and how I know what is coming at the end of the ride and that he has a beautiful soul as well as a beautiful face and how his music has power to change individuals and therefore the world. But while I’m talking, the conductors have let on more and more people and I find myself explaining to a sea of children who don’t understand. I’m worried they will whine and complain after awhile and want my seat. And they will surely want to get off the train once David does not actually marry them, I think. I look for signs that the train is letting on more people like me, but at this moment, they are not. They want to make money on the ride so they let on people who like to hop from train to train and don’t really care about what awaits them at the end of the ride.
But then I realize that the train is getting crowded – many more people than when I boarded! The conductors are happy because lots of people riding will assure them that they will actually have money to make it to their planned destination and not have to cut the journey short. And I become hopeful that some of the new people will stop flailing about David’s hotness long enough to catch a glimpse of one of those rare views and realize that it just might be worth it to stay on this train and not hop on the next one that comes along.
And so right now I will remain firmly seated in my little corner and welcome the new people and hope they accept me. I will wait patiently for signs that someone wants to ask me about the view and I will rejoice when more first-time riders get on board. And I will continue to love and enjoy the original riders of the David-train.
And by the time we finally do reach our hoped for destination and see David the mature artist he is capable of becoming, it will not matter who got on the train when and for what reason. It will simply have been more than worth the trip.
Happy Touring David!
We are all so engrossed in the Demi/David tour that it seems like nothing else matters, but the truth is David is most likely not even thinking about THAT tour. He’s got bigger “fish & chips” to fry. He is more concerned about the UK tour. That’s the one, I think David may be a little more nervous about than the one with Demi. I know he doesn’t read his fan sites, but if he did, he would be shaking his head in disbelief, doncha think? I mean, the Demi thing isn’t til JULY! The UK tour starts in 10 days! That’s ten days! He has to be thinking about the UK. I’m thinking about David in the UK. I want so much for David to knock their socks off. The audiences in the UK are a different breed, and I want them to love David. I admit one minute I know they will LOVE him, and the next minute I worry. The Demi tour is not the most important issue right now, IMO. He has to get through the UK first.
So with that, I’ll say good night everyone. For David, who I hope is almost home safe & sound, or wherever he is…
Dear Lord,
Please take care of David.
Amen.
Sweet dreams, David! Be secure in our love & support always. We missed you badly and love you madly! Contigo siempre, con amor!

Hey everyone, just popping in to wish all who celebrate a Happy Easter!
SF: /b>I just noticed the “We are missing you badly and loving you madly!” line at the end of your prayer. I love it.
Junnie: Thanks for bringing over that post. I do love the train analogy and I do often feel the same way. Besides, I do love trains in general anyway. So magical and fitting, especially for David.
sandybeaches Yes, your avi is magnificent!
Off topic, I’m sure, but I read at the opening of a newspaper article at ArchuletaAvenue, “Italian American Idol (Season 7) runner-up David Archuleta is not ready to be in a serious relationship.
The hottest new young talent in America wants to embrace his teenage years and meet new people…”
Italian? Did I miss something? I thought Jeff was Spanish. Anyone?
In case you have not seen or watched, I have posted all of David’s Sunway performance in the next thread, where they are supposed to belong -- if I understand the intent of this site’s mapping
He sang ALTNOY, TMH, DLG, Crush, ATM & Angels. Emjoy!
David’ Asia tour has been a HUGE HUGE success..look at the crowd response and reception he has been receiving. I am very sure he will come back for A SOLO TOUR very soon.
David is a still new artist and the David/Demi concert will add more new fans for him, we just have to trust the Archulator
Just look at this..
really thank you yvonnekniese for making this !

You guys are AWESOME …I sure David is very HAPPY in Malaysia
..to be mobbed by fans upon arrival..visiting school..press..radios promo..and the show case at Sunway..just WOW…
We are so BLOWN AWAY..how can he be not and THIS IS REALLY FOR HIM ALONE and nobody else.
I got carried away and decided to do a remix of all the YouTube videos of David’s Salt Lake City “Zero Gravity.”
Anyway, I decided in the end to do something a little different with the video. You’ll see:

Ronald -- What was it that got you carried away? I’ll ship you some more.
Juliebug,
I’d been thinking of doing an MTV-style “remix” of ZG since I saw it live, to try to recapture the energy of the performance. It’s just so great to see how far David has come so I thought I should “document” it somehow, like with the Tulsa Angels video. I’d never done a video like this before so I thought it would be fun to experiment, too.
Also, my campaign for student government president ended Thursday and I thought I’d take a break!
SB -- re “Italian American Idol….” I remember in one interview that David confirmed of the Archuleta’s Basque ancestry. Since Basque is located in the South-western portion of France, some fans may have misconstrued that connection to mean Italian.
That’s the only “Italian” connection I could think of right now.
But you are right, Jeff is of Spanish-Basque descent.
David’s ethnicity is in put down as Honduran, Basque & Danish.
Ronald -- When’s the election? Can I stuff the ballot box for you? heh

Me too?
djafan: jackryan and juliebug posted videos in the This Week in Archuworld thread. Right now you can get to it easily by going to the bottom of this page and clicking on Next Post.
junnie #452 Thank you for the video! I loved the shot of the audience as they were singing their part ‘a-way-ay-ay-ay-ay”! The arena was beautiful, so lush and green. It’s apparent that David totally enjoyed himself as much as did the crowd.
Ronald: Great job! Loved seeing the ‘transformation’ right before our very eyes! It’s astonishing when you think about it. David looks like he aged two years instead of one in the last year.
ronaldsf . April 12, 2009 at 12:17 am, #456 Your video shows just how far David has come in such a short time. The title could be “You’ve Come A Long Ways Baby(D)”.
Confession/Question--I feel like a bad fan because I can’t seem to appreciate Krendra’s backup singing and it’s becoming harder to tune her out. Her voice just blares out, it doesn’t seem to blend well with the others or David’s to me. It seems to ruin David’s music for me. It’s one thing to attend a concert where David is co-headling or even opening up for someone whose singing is not on the same level as his. Is it just me? It makes my heart heavy. What if she records with him on his new album? I want to support him all I can but I don’t want to pay for music or go to concerts to be distracted by her loud, flat, off key singing. IDK, maybe I need to get my hearing check. I don’t mean any disrespect or offense, I’m just very sad.
Hey Bebereader! As soon as you left the cellcast, anniefrom somewhere helped teamarchie get the sound back up. It was fun listening but it doesn’t compare to the videos. His voice sounds even better…if that’s possible.
Thanks marlie7!
ronald -- you need to do more … that video is great! In Imagine you could see how he averts his eyes… in ZG direct hits with those eyes!!!!!
To vote, go to the front page. The poll is on your left.
To find the newest performance videos, go to This Week in Archuworld, which right now is on the left front page as well as in the Editorial box.
Ronald -- Thanks for the video. Now I can show my friends on the b4 and after AI performance of David. I was at a friend’s the other nite and had to show her some of his tour videos to convince her.
Cant wait for his performance on AI8 and it better not be another ballad.
Good debate all. At first I was sad to think so many devoted fans would not be attending his concerts for reasons they feel adamant about. Then I realized how passionate we all feel about David. It’s this passion that draws us to him. Most people who don’t “get” him usually speak/write without any passion (emotion). Don’t know if you can pierce their hard exteriors with words, let alone pitch perfect soul infused music. It’s also this passion we exhibit that surfaces when discussions heat up here. However, I have also observed alot of you “eat your words” -- ie; no mosh pits(??!!??), never catch me screaming (??!!??), wouldn’t catch me buying some teen magazine (Life Story ??!!??), watch iCarly, Hannah Montana (??!!??), Build a Bear, anyone? Am I wrong? We blame it on ODD but I think we just love & support him unconditionally. I know I most certainly do…..and I love this………
yjfand373 -- “….I am buying a ticket as soon as the dates are announced. I would just have to go to Archuleta Lost and Found to reclaim my dignity later.” So funny, so true…….
Liz -- #466. On my screen the poll is on my right. And it just shows the results and doesn’t allow me to actually vote. Weird.
New post!
goboywonder 464 -- I’ve wondered about Kendra’s voice since early in solo tour. I think her tone doesn’t match or something. It’s not necessarily off key, it’s just off. She does play the violin beautifully, though.

“She does play the violin beautifully, though. Yeah violin nice, voice not so much.
gos boywonder # 464
I couldn’t agree more. Kendra’s voice is distracting, and not in a positive way! I love the instrumentals but as far as backing David vocally all of them need to improve a lot, especially Kendra. One of the reasons why David needs to become a bigger star is to be able to get a couple of great backing vocals like the supertars do. Yes, I’m greedy! I want more! Melinda Doolittle used to do backing vocals for someone big, didn’t she? Not my style, but flawless voice.
#473 Valbraz . April 12, 2009 at 2:23 am. Oh thank you. I was thinking maybe something was wrong with me espcially when everywhere I read where fans are hoping the band stays with Daivd for a long time and I’m like OH NOOOO! And I agree about Melinda, great vocals.
Maybe if Krendra wasn’t sooo loud?
