On April 21st, 2009, David will open for the McFly band as their “Special Guest” in the “Up Close…And This Time It’s Personal Tour” at Wolverhampton Civic Hall, Wolverhampton, West Midlands, England, kicking off a 20-day tour at 14 venues in England and Scotland. Well accustomed to huge audiences in arenas around the world, McFly is touring this time in smaller venues to thank the band’s most loyal fans. Ticket price is about US$33.
They describe who they are and a little about their pop-rock, pop-punk band (named after Marty McFly from the Back to the Future movie trilogy in the 1980s) on their MySpace page:
Hi and welcome to our MySpace. For all you newcomers, we are Danny, Dougie, Tom & Harry and together we are the band MCFLY.
We’re from the U.K. and have been together for over five years, released three studio albums on Universal Records and are about to release our fourth and best album, Radio:ACTIVE. So far we’ve had seven number ones, broke a few records, attempted to act and had some pretty awesome experiences, but now are the most excited we have ever been as we enter the next chapter in our career.

As of December 2008, McFly has had 16 consecutive top-20 singles, seven of which reached #1 on the U.K. Singles Chart and 15 of which were consecutive top-10 singles.
McFly’s debut album, Room on the 3rd Floor, debuted at #1 on the U.K. album chart and is certified as double platinum. With this auspicious debut, McFly supplanted The Beatles as the youngest band ever to have an album debut at #1.
This is a great pairing for David. McFly has awards, credibility and a broad reaching fan base. David’s music is sweeter pop, albeit more R&B and youthful. His vocal prowess will shine through at every venue.
What a fabulous adventure for David at this point in his budding career. As he is developing his stage performance skills, and since he appears to be a sponge when around other creative performing artists, it will be interesting to see what he absorbs from this 20-day tour and reinterprets for future tours.

Kizzi: Loved your post. I, and so many other I’m sure, appreciate the introduction you gave to McFly. I hadn’t heard of them before hearing about this tour so I had no clue about their music. You’re so right when you said:

rapture & bebereader: I am very excited about the UK tour. Idol isn’t big in the UK so he is virtually an unknown and McFly is a fun, young, artistically talented band with a large and youthful fan base--so good for David especially with his growing skills with live performances of songs from his CD as well as ZG and his covers. Mr. Kizzi and I have a trip planned to Scotland and we actually will be able to go to the show in Glasgow--with seats too! I cannot wait to see how the crowd reacts…will be quite interesting.
ronaldsf -- I was wondering if he would perform “Angels.” I read somewhere that Robbie Williams version is considered “sacred” and no one should perform it as fans of RW will not be receptive even if it is comparable. hmmmm
Whatever issues I may have about Jive’s marketing strategies in the U.S.,I’m loving their strategy for David overseas. The Asia trip shows that they’re paying attention to how well David is selling in that market.
This UK tour, however, suggests that they’ve got a future plan for David’s “world domination,” and I’m excited that David gets to be paired up with an adventurous and popular boy band that seems part Monkeys, part Duran Duran (yeah, I know I’m showing my age, but those guys were hot!). From the riske videos of McFly, they also seem to have a quirkiness that’s truly missing from the homogenous and commercialized representation of American boy bands (part of my not finding the appeal of the Jonas Brothers is not just about age difference, it’s about how bland they are).
So, I’m really excited for David to visit Europe for the first time and to greet an audience that’s not familiar with him, where he can unleash his magic, sans the glare of American Idol/Disney/Nickelodeon/teen pop. Then again, for all we know, David might encounter a Malaysia-style greeting at the airport in England. Wouldn’t that be a riot?

Don’t forget to watch the McFly’s video “Heart Never Lies” embedded above. It is beautiful in black and white and, oh, the rain, the rain is perfect. I love the lyrics. It is rock with a message and a meaning.
I am very excited about the McFly tour. They also have a strong gay fanbase, and David needs to tap into that market, at least more knowingly by the label.
Thanks Kizzi, for the Mcfly into, I enjoyed the vid. It will be really neat to hear your report after seeing first hand, the reaction of UK Mcfly fans (which seem to be a hardcore fanbase) to David. Any speculation as to set list?
Angels is too sacred? . I think if any one could pull that off for a UK crowd it would be David. I think DLG… it always get a reaction, lol, when Dave cuts loose.
Kizzi, as long as there’s video footage (of the “riot” that is), it’s all good!
Freofan, if as some of the other David fan sites revealed, the label is not releasing ZG because it doesn’t fit his “image” (whatever!), will they openly tap into the gay fanbase, which David has his share of as well?
It would be *smart* of them to do so, but since it appears that the only fanbase they’re tapping into are the “tweens,” I’d be really surprised if the label started doing some open courting.
But like I said, they seem more courageous/adventurous in taping into diverse markets when David’s not on American soil. Not sure what they’ve got in mind.
Either way, I’m really glad that, at this early stage of David’s career, they are exposing him to an international audience. And as someone who already tuned into world pop music charts, I’m sure David is over the moon with these opportunities.
HG: This is pure speculation on my part based on what I think I am reading between the lines (as in my crystal ball, tea leaves, tarot cards, lol) but I do think Jive has always had had a multi-faceted marketing approach for David and I am just seeing it now.
I think David is quite the “experiment” to use his own words and, apparently quite wisely, is choosing not to be locked into anyone genre and Jive knows this and supports this--he has fans that span all ages--that has to be very interesting from a marketing perspective and to know how & where to tap the $$ of such.
I speculate that because David is “experimenting” with his music, his style, his genre and the many crossover potentials he has, that Jive may be taking a more “experimental” approach.
Certainly $$ sales is the target but from the variety on his CD, to BAB, to iCarly, to Hanna Montana, to Demi to his own solo tour, to promo tour in Singapore & Malaysia, to the UK as an opening act for McFly to his own concert at Del Mar and whatever is next, it all just seems quite varied. Just opening for the TOP rock band in the UK is quite a coup and about as 180 degree turnabout from BAB, iCarly etc. as one can get.
And he was virtually a unknown in musical sales and genre with “celebrity status” from AI and he has been growing and proving himself since then.
What is next? This fan journey is proving to be quite a delightful one, isn’t it!
I wasn’t so sure when the tour was announced but after watching the vid and reading your post, Kizzi, I think this will be a really good fit. Can’t wait for the videos and comments. Hopefully Chenson will be sending some our way.
Heads up peeps. Word on the street is that AI had to switch up Jordin’s and David’s appearances on AI. David is supposed to appear on AI next week and will not play the first two shows of the McFly tour.
If true, would be a bummer for those David fans who bought tickets to those McFly shows just to see him.

Juliebug -- If you search Ticketmaster UK for David Archuleta it gives you the 4/21/09 opener and the next date is 4/29 in Portsmouth through the end of the McFly tour. Bummer for me if its true.
When were you scheduled to go Kizzi?
It doesn’t make sense he’d miss a whole week though for just one appearance on AI. So maybe the ticketmaster site is wrong.
Those reporting are pretty sure he’s missing the 4-21 and 4-22 shows. Which gives him travel time to get to the show on the 24th.

I am (or is it was now?) going on the 25th in Glasgow. Not there on the 21st and tickets to the 29th are sold out so would have to find a broker.
Do you think that David will tape his appearance ahead of time as David Cook did? I can’t believe they would put him through that much travel for a brief appearance and what about his contract with McFly.
Just checking back in before heading to work. Kizzi, we shall see what Jive has in store. I’m still skeptical as far their vision is concerned, but the overseas tour gives me hope.
Now, I don’t know how I feel if there is a switcheroo occurring on AI. I’ve been looking forward to David performing during Top 3 week, when the buzz for AI intensifies as more audiences tune in to see who’s going into the finale. That’s prime real estate right there in terms of a promotional guest performance spot, are you kidding me?
Sigh. As much as I’m anticipating seeing David back on my TV, I want him to have the best spot possible, which the Top 3 results show would have been. Trust me, whether the song he performs is ZG or ALTNOY or some other song we did not expect, it was going to climb the charts just because of the appearance and the audience tuning in.
So, I’m going to cross my fingers and hope that this is just a rumor.

Our boy has not posted his usual monday blog yet…hmmm even though he has already done two last week.
Kizzi -- I am psyched to see David open for McFly.
First, just having him play in the UK will be good for him (and lucky them!).
Second, the McFly boys are unique in that they grew up and out of a teen/tween clean reputation (Teen Choice Awards UK version 2008) and into their own style -- a little raucous, a little pop/rock. It should be interesting to see how David interacts with them and what he learns (and they learn!) from the time spent together.
Third, I am wondering if David will do Angels. It could be well-received, or it could be considered untouchable territory. It will be interesting to watch, regardless.

TOfan -- David’s mother dances salsa, and my now retired ballroom exhibition dancing mother-in-law tells me salsa is known for its shoulder shimmies and cuban-hip movement…so who better to learn from by example when growing up than a talented Mom. I am intrigued that David included DLG in the KL showcase at all, over more obvious choices like You Can. He clearly loves to perform that song (Sayerville, anyone?) and, in one interview, said it was his favourite one to record, he got so “into it.” (um, ya)
We all know David, in his aw-shucks, nice-guy way, is laser-focused on achieving goals that are important to him. I wouldn’t be surprised if having Don’t Let Go released as a single at some point isn’t one of them.

Kizzi #32 I think he’ll do Zero Gravity. Why not? It was so well-received here, and I think David is playing it up and wants it recorded. David seems to have a much more strategic perspective sometimes than he lets on. What a great way to run a business -- appear naive and be smarter than the average bear. Not that I think he is manipulative or anything like that. I think he is just an enigma, part genius, part wide-eyed wonderboy.

Really David is the news…the buzz about UK tour. and now Idol appearance. I wish it was the original schedule , after UK tour then Idol then Manila tour. With this new ( not yet confirm), he will miss two UK shows if this is live. Kizzi, FYI…The first two McFly concert dates are the only one’s that have been removed from David’s concert schedule on his “official” website. So, looks like you’re OK for Glasgow.
David’s appearance on AI is a very good reason for the cancellations as the exposure will be GREAT for David. I will keep my conspiracy theory to myself til AFTER we find out what “THEY” will “ALLOW” David to sing on AI. Hoping whatever he sings will showcase his tremendous growth as a live performer. So, no ballads puh-leeze! His passionate DLG would kill ‘em!

A am disappointed that David will miss those tour dates. I am glad that his performance will be moved up IF he is singing ALTNOY. I mean this could give both the cd, and single a big boost. You see what it did for Cook. I expect a similar bounce for David. If ALTNOY is the song, waiting until top three, this song will be on life support! So sooner is better, but messing with his UK debut, stinks.
I must say, international David has been thrilling.

Hi all …checking in. Long night last night.. I was heavily influenced by the company I was keeping…so I can’t be held responsible for whatever dribble was coming out of my typing. Friends don’t let friends type while under the influence of KLDLG.
Poor David… he was already nervous…now he has the added pressure of having to bail on the first two shows. I hope they pull back a little with his scheduling now.
They don’t realize that David not only invests physically…but he invests emotionally. I felt sad for him… he really was sad leaving Asia.
I’m nervous about McFly. I’m not over the moon about AI…cause I think we’re gonna get TBWY…which just doesn’t showcase how much he’s grown this year. But the ratings are dire…and now with the rumors Cowell is perhaps leaving…they gotta do whatever they can.

Just watched the new Vlog from David. He seems a little worried about the UK tour. Says it will be a different experience from Asia where his music was known, and it will be like “starting over.” Covering Robbie William’s Angels over there, which was an anthem after the death of Princess Di is unnecessary and risky, and might even invite some boos. That would hurt my heart.
I would like him to do Crush, ALTNOY, DLG, ZG, and YEDL plus SOT. Oh, and MY Hands. WFM. WFY. etc, etc.

David Archuleta-Demi Lovato tour breaks cuteness record
It should be illegal to have this much cuteness in one place, and yet, Disney tween-dream Demi Lovato is setting out on tour with Season 7 “American Idol” runner-up David Archuleta.
Beginning in July, the precious twosome will begin their journey across the country together.
So of course, the requisite romantic rumors are beginning to swirl. On WikiAnswers.com, somebody posted the question, “Is Demi Lovato going out with David Archuleta?” To which an enraged commenter replied, “No. He isn’t ready people can’t you understand!!”
Demi Lovato is best known for appearing with the Jo-Bros in “Camp Rock.” She’s working on the sequel now, in addition to starring on a Disney series called “Sonny With a Chance,” and releasing her debut album, “Don’t Forget.” Did we mention she’s 16?
Archie has been pretty busy himself lately. He just got back from Malaysia, where he set off such a frenzy that he put Beatlemania to shame. Also, rumor has it David will be returning to “American Idol” to perform sometime next week.
It mentions rumor of AI performance next week… I’m with SF here. As unfortunate as it is for the UK cancellations, I think the AI performance is key for David in the US. What should he perform…I give up, he’ll be great what ever he does.

Hi everyone, After seeing David’s vlog, I knew this must of been the plane flight I had mentioned on the previous post. Which helps explain why David seemed exhausted. I must confess I was concerned when I thought hw was travelling too much and he really should rest. I’m re-posting the info here to help update.
“As I was working today, I overheard one of my co-workers mention that David Archuleta was on his plane today, which took me by surprise because I thought he was still in Utah. Well, he went on saying how David looked exhausted and some fans had spotted him and rushed over to him. After being very gracious, David went with airport security. My co-worker was very surprised that David had no entourage, and in fact, was traveling alone. Moments before the plane took off, David boarded and sat in the first row of first class and after the flight, David was allowed to disembark first.

Later in the evening, I tried to casually get some more information from him. Drat, I wasn’t pushy enough, because when I mentioned David too him, he pretty much repeated what I had overheard. (He doesn’t know I suffer from ODD)

I assumed that the flight was that day, and we all know why you shouldn’t assume. lol
Unfortunately, I still haven’t talked to the guy, but seeing the vlog, David didn’t look as bad as I imagined him to be. Whew!
I know American Idol will be huge for David, but I’m a little saddened because there doesn’t seem like there will be any preperation time. David will just have to jump right in to the concerts. And also, I feel bad for the people who won’t get to see him live, especially the ones who don’t know what they’re missing.
Maybe AI will give a hint about what song David will be singing when they announce he’s on next week. Don’t they usually do that the week before?
About the UK..I would really love to hear David sing Desperate. I just think David would do with that song what he’s done with DLG & WFM. I DREAM of David singing Desperate and Falling too. The emotions he would put into those songs, I think, would be un-buh-lee-va-bul!
Don’t know if he’ll do Angels, but if Robbie Williams gives David the go-ahead, or personally asks David to do it, I think he will and they will love it. How could they not? I do think, though, that David will ask Robbie about it though first before including it in his set. JMO.

OK, pet peeve time. Because I’m watching AI, and all these boys *trying* to sing ballads, it’s ridiculous. Tonight, I heard Bryan Adams’ “Everything I Do” and “When You Really Love a Woman,” and Lionel Richie’s “Endless Love” and another ballad I’m unfamiliar with, and all I could think of is: David would have killed this, and David would have wiped the floor with that. What’s missing this season? The emotional depth. The digging deep and making you “understand the song.” At least Adam’s “Born to Be Wild” was entertaining.
I almost want David singing TBWY next week (if he is appearing next week) just to demonstrate how it’s done, but alas, he’s back on the AI stage, and it would be nice for him to break the “ballad boy” caricature. What can I say? I miss David on my TV, and next week is definitely sooner than later. But, I’m still torn about wishing he were performing in May for Top 3 week instead. Whatever. Sigh.
WAS “Angels” by Robbie Williams really big after Princess Di’s death? Wasn’t the big song “Candle in the Wind” by Elton John? Perhaps we’re confusing uplifting songs sung by sexually ambiguous male singers.

I’m not sure I understand your apprehension, Angelica. David should sing Angels precisely because it was so popular in the UK, and when they hear David’s version (which, IMO, makes Robbie Williams’s version pale in comparison), I can’t imagine anyone booing him.
The Brits are many things, but 1)they understand soul (which David has plenty of), and 2)they comprehend artistry (another thing David has in abundance). I see them giving him a standing O more than any boos.
And, in the event that David gets booed, well, that’s part of the learning process too. I do think, despite the self-deprecating style of his, that he knows his own merit and can withstand the harshest criticism. Especially since it seems he’s his own harshest critic.
Not only some questionable song choices tonite on Idol but some very bad singing… worse than usual. Only 2 were really holding pitch, Allison and Anoop. Adam over the top and the others painful. David could have even done Born to be Wild and I would bet it would have been changed up, original and well sung. Whatever. Sigh.
Cutter, David doesn’t really need preparation if he’s got the band backing him on AI. He can just do what he’s been knocking our socks off! SF: I’m so convinced it will be ALTNOY I’d put money on it. That song is still trying to climb the charts. Jive will put the emphasis on that. Everyone who’s appeared has performed a song they are trying to sell as a single. TBWY is not a single, so no need to perform it. Kara won’t be considered in the song selection if Jive is calling the shots.
More than the fans in the UK I worry about the press and the djs. They are known to be very cynical and rude. Maybe David will turn them around like he did Kathy Griffith. Sure wish he had some time to rest though.
In so many interviews David says how much he LOVES doing TMH live and connecting with his audience. What a perfect song that would be in the Idol venue. He would indeed kill it and have the added satisfaction of doing a song that depicts exactly who and where he is right now. JMO of course.

Speaking of AI, I’m with you River. Just really bad song choices and singing. And what was with Simon badgering Lil Rounds at the end? You know what? He needs to get over it. I know with this movie theme night, they were hoping to recreate the magic of Season 3 when Fantasia knocked “Summertime” out of the park, or when Jennifer Hudson rocked the house with her version of “The Circle of Life.” But I really wish they would get it through their thick skulls that lightening does not strike twice. It doesn’t!
Lil Rounds is a capable singer, but she is not nor will she ever ascend to the level of a Fantasia or a J-Hud or a Melinda Doolittle or a Jordin Sparks. It just ain’t gonna happen.
The same is true, as was painfully evident tonight, with these “ballad boys” who are not worthy to touch the hem of David’s garment! (Did I just make a messianic statement concerning our David?)
Sometimes there is genuine talent to be found, other times, you have to acknowledge that talent isn’t found in every corner of every city. I could’ve told them that they were wasting their time heading to Salt Lake City to find David 2.0 because he’s one of a kind.
Sometimes, a TV show ought to end its run when they’re at the top of their game (like The Sopranos or Sex and the City). Why fizzle out?
That said, I’m really impressed with 16-year-old Allison Iraheta. Now she’s someone who should be paired up with David for a tour next year. It’s not that I have any issues with teens and their music, but I want some real musical heft, and if you’ve got it, whatever your age, I’m going to listen.
Marlie, I sincerely hope you are right. I don’t understand though, why a lot of the posters at FOD say that ALTNOY is over, done, kaput. I thought it was doing well, not like CRUSH, but still climbing the charts. I dunno…all I know is, I have NEVER heard ALTNOY on my local radio stations. I request it, they say ok, but never play it.

I think you’re right about it being Candle in the Wind and not Angels. I looked it up in Wikipedia and it didn’t mention anything about that song and Princess Di. It did, however, say that it was the song most Brits voted to be sung at their funeral.

Ronaldsf- I remember reading a review from the UK about David’s album, and while she loved it, she did say that Angels is sacred to the Brits because of Princess Di. As much as I love that song, if David only has a short number of songs, maybe Angels shouldn’t be one of them. But, Zero Gravity, Definitely.
HG -- What I’ve noticed about AI, is they always seem to be chasing what they had, but didn’t appreciate until it was too late. i.e.- Daughtry and David.

Actually, it doesn’t really matter what David sings on AI. The important thing is that HE IS GOING TO BE ON. And he has been looking forward to it. What makes David happy, makes me happy.

In all of the reviews from the UK about David’s ablum, the reviewers were biased towards Robbie Williams’ Angel. One even mentioned that it was sacred towards Princess Diana’s death. I hope if David does decide to sing it, it will be with Robbie Williams’ “public” blessing. Every place has its customs and I wouldn’t want David to unknowingly offend them.

Cutter, as frustrating as this season of AI is, I also feel a weird sense of vindication. A kind of “David was so phenomenal, no one before or after him is going to be safe on the AI stage again.”
Here’s the thing. From the moment David opened his mouth to sing “Imagine” he changed the game. When you consider Cook had to rock out and do all kinds of emo-type rearrangements of pop songs just to create enough buzz and eventually win the crown over David, that just proves that, in David’s presence, everyone has to up the ante. (Which is why it irks me to know end when his label handicaps him with generic pop songs because, when they let him be his natural great self, everyone else on the music scene are going to have to up the ante too.)
And during his run on AI, what did David do? He didn’t whip out a guitar (well, occasionally a piano, which wasn’t always necessary) or even alter a song. He simply sang the song as is, with his own David spin. In its very simplicity, David took a well known song and created magic.
And despite a few slippages here and there, David remained consistent…until Top 2 when, as Ruben Studdard (the idol who got me watching AI regularly) confirmed what the rest of us already knew: “David was on fire!” I think that’s how he put it.
Now, once you’ve set the place a-blazing, that’s one helluva followup to introduce a brand new season, especially when producers were spending a good deal of time complaining how “boring” the most talented group of contestants the show has ever had were.
So, it’s not a surprise to me that, in hindsight, they would be chasing what they already had.
Which is why I’d like David to have the best exposure when he returns to the AI stage. I’d like current audiences to recognize that he helped raise the bar that this season’s crop obviously cannot reach.
SF, no, I have not listened to the KL version of DLG. I will though. And, Goboywonder, I imagine if David gave an intro about why Angels was important to him (and if he’s prepped into understanding why the song is important to the UK), I think he can win the audience over with his rendition.
Who is more sensitive and considerate than our David? Sometimes, singing a well known and even “sacred” song is a way of showing the locals that you’re so with them, you know? It’s his best “heart” song. I would hate for that audience to be denied David’s version. Princess Diana would have loved David had she still been alive.

HE is arguably one of the hottest new stars in America. But for young David Archuleta, who captivated audiences around the world at American Idol’s Season 7 last year, fame has not gone to his head.
He credits his family for keeping him grounded despite his growing popularity.
“Things can get a little crazy with all that attention. But I don’t think I’ve been affected by it — I see myself as the same kid before the competition,” said the Idol runner-up in an interview with the press in Petaling Jaya last week.
Archuleta, 18, was here for his Asian leg of his tour to promote his self-titled debut album.
What has changed, however, is the hectic pace of his life now as a performer touring the globe. “I’m always so busy!” he said, adding that he never expected to be in the spotlight at his age.
“It has been a great experience and a lot of fun. I’m just glad to be living my dream,” he said.
Archuleta acknowledges the pressure that comes with fame.
“There are lots of expectations from fans and critics alike.” He deals with it, he said, by staying true to himself, and the music and songs with which he’s comfortable.
His present challenge is getting out his second album for which he is gathering new material.
“It’s difficult making an album, deciding which songs to include in it,” he said.
He’s retaining the pop genre for his next album, but one that’s more mature.
“There’ll be fun and happy tunes as well as a more soulful sound with more depth and emotion — something I see myself doing in future,” said Archuleta, who idolises John Mayor, Jason Mraz and Natasha Beddingfield.
He also hopes to write more songs this time around (only three tracks in his debut album were co-written by him).
“I’m working on it already. You learn so much from scripting your own songs.” But finding the muse to compose them is proving to be the hardest bit for him right now. “I really need to focus,” said Archuleta, who drives around in his car to help clear his mind.

About David’s appearance on AI -- as much it would seem to be better for David to perform on Final 3 night -- I just can’t wait to see him -- the sooner, the better. He will blow everybody away, no matter what he sings. I guarantee the screaming in the audience will be louder for him, then for any of the current AI contestants or anyone else that has performed so far this season.

Yes, Elton John not only sang CITW at Princess Di’s memorial service, a special CD was made of the single (I know because I remember purchasing it, after crying my eyes out watching the service). Her death was such a shock since I had just visited London that summer. My friend who I stayed with at the time met her future husband at the mass funeral they had for her. She told me over the phone how, in the wake of Diana’s death, the mood in London was more crushing than 12 funerals combined.
All this is to say, I can now see -- if Angels is associated with Princess Diana -- why there is concern about David taking on such a sacred song. Especially since he would have only been 6 or 7 at the time. Still, I believe in the power of song -- especially when David is singing -- and think David would more than do justice to Angels if they opened their hearts to hear him sing.
Besides, this is the first I’m hearing of Robbie Williams’ Angels being associated with Princess Diana.

For those who had not seen him perform since last year’s American Idol finals, it was clear that he had grown into a more polished and confident artiste, moving across the stage like a pro, busting into some new moves and making eye contact and waving to his adoring fans.
However, there was still evidence of the endearing, slightly dorky Archuleta that people fell in love with when he accidentally walked into his mic stand in the middle of a song!
Bwahahahahahahahahaha!!!! I really needed that! I love this guy! I really, really do! And not in that creepy way some young fans have made some of you feel!
And if I ever come across those types just because of my admiration for TheVOICE at my age? — I’ll say, “Oh good for you tweenies for having good taste like me!”

Wasn’t Jive originally a British label? If so, I’m thinking they probably have a pretty good pulse on whether it would be a good idea for David to include it or not. It would seem weird without it though.
Did they move David to Top 6 Week to up the ratings,(seems like the viewership for Top 3 would obviously be higher),or did they give Top 3 to Jordin (seemingly a more preferable spot) because she is a former winner? He will kill either way, was just wondering. Not sure I am buying the “scheduling conflict” reason. How much more difficult can changing Jordin’s schedule be than David flying to UK, back to US (and cancelling 2 concerts) and back to UK in a week?

David has always maintained that he wants to continue doing music, but he also realizes that he MAY NOT always be able to sustain a living from music. In that event, he wants to have something to fall back on. And as a teacher, I agree with his practically although I certainly think he will never get to open his practice.

But, yeah, I agree it will prolly be ALTNOY, which he totally rocks, so… gotta say, it’s all good. (I do agree it’s not too cool that he had to cancel two UK appearances. He needs as much stage time there as possible. Even so, I know he’ll slay them.)
Btw, I have heard for a long time that Angels is sacred because of its association with Princess Di, but researching the song itself does not support this in any big way that I’ve been able to nail down. Kinda funny. Still, I have always associated it with Di. (For what that’s worth.) But I agree, if David’s aware and introduces it properly before singing it, he will be “UNDERSTOOD.”

I remember David talking about being an ENT doctor as a fallback career option. I guess I was just wondering if he was bringing this up again for some reason.
Anyway, if they’re insistent on promoting ALTNOY on AI, then obviously the label has not given up on this second single. But, for crying out loud, there would NOT be such a struggle to get this out there if they actually, you know, PROMOTED the song and got it some regular radio spins since the beginning of the year.
I’m not overjoyed with the single myself, and that’s really only because I’ve heard better songs that would make much stronger singles (*cough* Zero Gravity *cough cough* -- even Barriers or WFY or Desperate or DLG or perhaps TMH; see, right there, I came up with 6 songs that have stronger potential than ALTNOY), but at this point, it’s important for David to get some wider exposure and a chance to be heard and seen again on TV.

The amusement park thing is a seasonal thing that is set up inside a huge warehouse type building. I think they ask a celebrity to come and help kick off the event. I got this info from a person who is carrying 2 Japan CD’s to have David sign them for me. She is going to the M&G tomorrow in Cleveland. BTW, the purpose of getting the Cd’s signed si so they can be donated to make $$ once TDC decides on a charity. I thought autographed Cd’s would be a better draw.

Dawn tells me her printer is humming on all cylinders. She will be sending me the covers/cases soon so that I can start sending them out. Knotliser is sending along a special gift to include in the package! She is awesome to make it extra special. No hints on what it is!

Has been a pleasure. I went thru a ton of tour vids and tried my best to choose the best David vocals, least screamy (near impossible) tour songs. I included every song and did my best to get “banter” when I could. Turns out SLC had quite a few good picks. Reno is there and Pamona had the greatest Medley. I think he does the band introductions as well. I test each on and I bet I know the first 20 seconds of very track by heart LOL
Dawn did an awesome job choosing the cover art ( see my avi ) by doing a screenshot from a SLC vid. Knotliser came in at the last minute with an off to mail a gift to add in the package. I hope those who asked for one will love it no matter what! We loved the project. And we all love David.

If David sings ALTNOY, it’s really a good thing (even though I would prefer DLG or TMH) if they bring out the fact that David co-wrote ALTNOY so non-fans can see that David is a multi-talented artist. We, his fans had a lot to do with ALTNOY being the second single off the CD and maybe we should have let Jive make the decision about the second single. ALTNOY, while a good song, is good argument for being “careful what we wish for” regarding David and his career, or what songs should be released as singles. We may not agree or understand the strategies behind Jive’s decisions, but I think David is learning what works for him and will not be afraid to speak up if certain decisions don’t fit in with whatever his goals are.
Anyway, I am just so hyped about seeing David on TV..iCarly didn’t count for me.

These are Demi with Special Guest, David Tour dates..but David is appearing in HIS OWN concert in Del Mar on June 20th, so I really don’t think he’ll be with Demi in Hartford on the 21st, unless he leaves Del Mar immediately after the concert, which I guess would be JUST LIKE him…I still don’t get why David is opening for Demi..sorry, it just leaves a bad taste in my mouth. He’s sooooo too good to be opening for anyone except for maybe a mega-superstar, and she is so not that!

Wouldn’t that be great if David could do the same? I hope he gets to converse with them about how they did this and what pitfalls/shortcuts to avoid or take advantage of. He already understands that he is running his own business; I’d like to see him have complete control and then look out! Like Marlie said above:

gemzone #126 -- I am in UK 4/22 -- 5/3; have tix to Glasgow concert, with a beautiful venue, on 4/25 which is still on -- hooray! And, lucky you, the London venue will be the most prestigious one David will play in the UK.
Hubby and I are actually touring Isle of Skye (walking some awesome trails) after the 4/25 Glasgow concert and sailing the Inner and Outer Hebrides.

This is a 10 week, 64 day, 45 concert tour. Not as many as the AI tour but still a long one, from one end of the U.S. to the other again. Jeff did say it was a 10 week tour so most likely David is signed up for all of them. I’m just wondering how long his set will be. It’s still a ways off and I know it won’t matter to David’s fans. Some of these venues are huge arenas. Should be very telling if they sell out.
So David will have his VERY OWN concert in Del Mar (no other artist has been added..not yet anyway), and who knows how long it will be before he has another, so for anyone who can swing it, should throw caution to the wind & just GO FOR IT!
I am trying to keep my mind off the UK cuz for some reason…I dunno, I am worried. The cancellation, even for the best of reasons is still very worrisome to me..I dunno why. I’ll be ok after the 24th and all goes well.

SF -- Since he likes the humid, tropical weather, the Philippines is the perfect place for him to have a vacation! He will even feel very at home here cos a lot of Filipinos speak Spanish — it is sort of our 3rd language (being under Spanish rule for 300 years!) Greesh, I had Spanish class till 4th year college as part of the Spain-Phil Educ Agreement!
Now, as far as vacationing is concerned, AM A VERY WILLING AND ABLE tour guide having been all over my country and Asia. He just need to name what he wants to experience or eat, I will take care of it!

I just checked out the tour dates and the arenas. David has definitely hit the big time. I am familiar with a number of these venues, and they are huge. David’s rise to superstardom has been mercurial and, in many respects, unprecedented.
As for his appearance on AI, that “leak” clearly means that he wll be performing ALTNOY. All former AI A-list stars always performer a song they are promoting, and since ALTNOY is the current single off of his CD, this is what he needs to be singing. ZG is for another time. Hopefully, ZG will be on his next CD, which wll allow it to be released as a single.
David’s career is completely on point and he is in demand in all parts of the world. He’s lovng every minute of it, his performing and vocal skills are off the charts, and getting better.
JR…YES! A perfect place for a vacation for David! And you would be the perfect tour guide!! If you meet him (& I think you will!), invite him to stay awhile! Dreams really do come true!
Most of the venues for the Demi/David tour are the same venues for the 07 AI Tour, where some of us saw David in concert for the first time & fell even further under his spell. When we knew there was no turning back. When we knew we had to go to every one of his concerts we could possibly afford to go to. But who knew he would get so un-buh-lee-va-blee better & better? So good that no one compares, no one satisfies our senses…Who knew we would be wanting more & more. I knew he would be great, but he is rediculously exceeding all my expectations. So..why is he Demi’s guest and not the other way around?? PUH-LEEZE!

BETSY/KIZZI -- Am over the moon about it! My daughter even teased me why I didn’t get the most expensive seats (Titanium -- front & center). I told her I just can’t justify the cost. But the more realistic reason -- which I conveniently forgot to mention to her? Front& center rows are all sold out in the Titanium range. The only 1 remaining under Titanium is already at the 11th row which I cannot take cos am small!
I just got lucky that there is 1 Platinum seat available in the front row, but a little bit to the left side cos it costs half the price of Titanium! The latter will be occupied mostly by celebrities, I was told by TicketWorld.

JR..front row seats are always good, cuz David uses the whole stage. I have a good feeling David will be spending more time there either before or after the day of the concert.
The dates I posted above are actually Demi’s dates and have not officially been confirmed as David’s, but I hope he will be coming to my town and if so, I will be there. maybe not the front row (too embarrassed) but I will be there. I think my kids may come with me just to see what I’ve been talkin’ about for the last year! There will be two other acts joining the tour on some still unspecified dates.
The one that concerns me is the first one on the 21st in Connecticut. It means David will have his concert in Del Mar CA on Saturday 6/20, then he’s flying cross-country to Connecticut for the concert there the following day?? I just hope he gets a non-stop flight or Jive flies him on their company jet. They must have a company jet, right?
Why do I stress about these things anyway? I’m so stupid sometimes!
LIZ @ #162 — that’s why I endeavored to get front row to get the full experience. Am still antsy about the videos. My daughter told me that they are really super strict in that venue. She just attended a major concert there — it is a huge venue 25k capacity and always standing room.
This is the 1st time that seats are being provided. I suppose most students will occupy the silver and bronze sections — the standing only areas, unless rich daddies and/or mommies give them the moolah to buy the higher priced tickets. Dang it! They had to include Cook that’s why the tix are so expensive.
I wonder how the program will go. Will Archie open for Cook? Will they alternate? Will they have combo/production #s? I know Cook is contractually obligated to sing with the Phil Idol winner altho am not sure whether that will take place in that concert or on TV only.
I also bet the Charice Pempengco’s management is gunning for them to have a duet. Remember our David promoted her and is actually a fan of hers? Charice on the other hand admitted her crush on him and totally admires his humility and talent. Then again, I dunno whether that will happen on that concert, or on TV.
A lot of possibilities for the Manila gig
BUT before all of that, am super excited for the McFLY concert! A new market, new set of audience to court and mesmerize. It was obvious from his latest vlog that David is a bit nervous about UK — but he is always like that! Let us not forget that Leona Lewis was more shy that he ever was when they were in their respective TV reality contest. Even last year’s winner, the young guy? Was also on the shy side. I think what the British audience appreciates is real talent and the earnest desire to share that talent that is simply not based on skill or training — but one which comes from the heart and spirit.
Our David has that in spades. The world is his playground now. And he is a great player. But he’s more than that. He is an engager. And his projection is both purposeful and seductive.
“Purposeful” cos whatever he wants to convey, fully translates even across a small plasma screen, a flickering monitor or a buffering online video.
It is also “seductive” because whether virtual or personal, the interactive landscapes he offers are not meant to be replacements for our direct experience of the real world, but rather a catalyst for further encounters in our respective lives of the world at large.
I hazard to conclude that with David, it is always a beginning.

I just caught Demi Lovato on Ellen today. She announced her first tour as a Headliner, and that she would be touring with David Archuleta!!!! Guess it’s true. She reminds me a little of Avril L. but a breathier(is this a word?) version. I may have to go stay with my sister to see him, but at least it would be an outdoor venue with probably all ages in attendance.

Going back to part of last night’s discussion about the interview where David talked about going to college…This was the first I heard of him saying he’d actually like to go to college to major in MUSIC! I’d heard him say here and there about taking an acting class or two to get some acting skills down, but it seems like he’s seriously considering this? No more mention of EN&T, now music and acting. Very cool. If he does go to college, I may just have to take up performing arts myself! How cool would that be to be in David’s class?!?!? How did Mary Kate and Ashley go to NYU without being mobbed?

About the summer concerts. If Demi is touring with David as her “special guest / opening act” why is there a question about which dates David will perform? Wouldn’t he do the whole tour with her (barring a last minute AI appearance?)
After being up front in Sayreville and Boise, such small, personal venues, I’m spoiled now! I was actually thinking that I may NOT want to go to the Nassau Veteran’s Memorial Coliseum (big stadium) to see him open for Demi Lovato. Pretty anticlimactic I was thinking, after seeing David’s solo tour. Besides, I thought, what would I look like (45 yr old woman) at a Demi Lovato concert?
Now I’m thinking that David will be right here “in my backyard” and I’m sure watching him live, even from not-so-great seats will trump ANYTHING else I may be doing on that Thursday evening, the eve of the last day of school!

I just checked on ticketmaster. There are only 3 dates listed so far for Demi: Columbus, Indianapolis and Omaha. The Columbus tickets are available NOW. I went through the process and there are great seats available (16th row floor). I’m not going to that show, but I was just checking. The Indianapolis show lists “presale 4/16″ and the Omaha says, “on sale 4/25″
David had only two listings: Del Mar and the Omaha show.

Yes that really is Ellen singing with Jennifer! I saw it last week on her show. I’ve watched it many times since then, it is so great! At the end she says she “broke her throat” singing with Jennifer. They must have practiced a lot to be able to sing like that together.

Hi Rapture -- I definitely am going to the Nassau Coliseum concert. Depending on how much performance time he gets, I might want to go to the Newark show as well. Of course we won’t know that until the tour starts. Let’s try to get a group together so we won’t be so embarrassed being the only 40+ people there without kids. There’s strength in numbers and I don’t even think I could get my teenager to go with me, (she doesn’t even know who Demi is!)
Djox -- Last summer, I think it was June, AI just ended and the tour had not started -- I saw James Taylor at Jones Beach. Of course he was great and I loved it, but all I kept on thinking was, “some day, I’m going to get to see David Archuleta here.”
It is such a wonderful summer venue to see a performance. I keep hoping perhaps the summer of 2010 -- John Mayer performs there a lot so why not David!!LOL

Bebereader You were asking for an MP3 of young David singing “God Bless America”. Go to above website -- it’s in the Inspiration folder. It’s amazing! And to think he could sing like that at 10 or 11 before any vocal therapy or training. He caresses every word and never rushes it. The second verse is even better. I’ve noticed that in many songs like GBA and also OHN and Angels, the first verse is usually sung fairly simply and then the second verse he takes to a higher level. I believe he does this on most of his ballads. He instinctively knows how to build the emotion in a song.

I need to learn how to edit videos and take screencaps! I use realplayer to download videos and I have YouTube Clip Extractor to rip mp3′s from YouTube videos. Can anyone suggest an application that will edit videos? (easily, because I’m pretty challenged in that area!)
Sometimes I want to rip an mp3 from a YouTube video, but may not want the beginning or end of it. Don’t know how to do any of that.
So, now what does a good fan do who has front row seats dead center for Del Mar? Sell them on ebay and fly for just two hours and be just about anywhere on the east coast? Now I have a good problem…I go away for a few hours and you fill my mind with confusion…

As for screen captures, I’m guessing on a pc it’s like a mac, just a key(board) combo. And in video players they often have a screen still snapshot feature, too.

I don’t get it. Why would they make him cancel tour dates in the UK after some people have bought tickets to see him and then not even advertise his appearance on AI? Yet it must be confirmed because it was the reason given on McFly’s website. WTH?
Just got back from gazing at David for three hours at the IX center in Cleveland. First thing first, black V-neck, white jacket, jeans, and black Converse. Jeff accompanied him. About 25 of us waited in a small room for the private M & G, sitting around at small tables. Mostly grown-ups, and almost ten of them are guys. I casually asked a few of them and found out they are from California, Chicago, West Virginia, Michigan, etc. We waited a while, and then out of nowhere , David appeared, without us clicking on some Youtube link first. Haha. Everyone gasped at his walking into the room just like that. Nobody screamed. I guess we were all a bit stunned by the life- size David, as opposed to the 2’’ by 2’’ David in the computer. I know I was.
He sat down at a table ready to sign and we walked up to him in small groups to have him sign whatever we brought and had pictures taken with him. He yawned the whole time, and kept apologizing for being still very jet-legged, explaining he woke up at 5am today. He had the biggest yawn I have seen, some of them lasted several seconds. Lol. As sleepy as he was, he gave everyone in the room individual attention and made everyone feel special. Abrra, mission accomplished! I had him sign your two Japanese CDs’. He recognized right away they are the Japanese version and asked how I got them. I explained that a serviceman brought them back and fans in a website wanted to have him autograph them and donate to charity. He asked which charity. I told him it wasn’t decided yet. I told him Save the Day was my favorite song and asked if it will ever be released here and he said he doesn’t know.
After the autographs, he went from table to table to chat with each one of us. He made us all forgot that he is this international superstar and made us feel like he’s just hanging out with us. And it felt that way. I had a half-eaten cookie in front me and he asked what kind of cookie it was. haha
We were all trying to talk to Jeff to find out information. Jeff said to someone (so this is hearsay) David will be opening but will sing 10 songs at the summer tour. He also said to someone (hearsay too) he would prefer David to sing mid-tempo songs like ZG or TMH at AI but it’s not up to David or him. He didn’t realize we already knew about David’s appearance at AI from McFly, so he told us to go home and watch AI tonight (to hear Ryan’s announcement about next week). When I told him how I love Save the Day and hoping it would be released here, he wanted to make sure I told David that myself. My impression from that is that David, not him, would be calling the shot about such matters. When I asked him if he was surprised about David’s popularity in Asia, he said yes and he attributed it entirely to the popularity of AI in Asia. I hope someday David realizes that it’s not AI, it’s HIM. I asked Jeff how the Cleveland appearance came about. What he said kind of confirmed what I heard already. Apparently some big shot at I-X center is a big fan and pretty much just asked his management for his appearance, and that’s it! The whole time in the room Jeff looked on with such pride and happiness with the fans’ love for his son, as if this is all new to him still.
After the private M & G there was the public M & G. His appearance was proceeded by a scream-fest from the crowd consisting of little kids, teenage girls and boys, and grown women and men. I watched him signing autographs for about 500 people. He accompanied each of his autograph with a big smile, hand-shake, or a high-five. I watched the joy and giddiness in people’s face after their two-second encounter with David. His smile for the last person in the line was as big and genuine as it was for the first person. How amazing is that.
Sorry for this rambling post. All I know is I miss him already even before he left the building.

SB..What are you saying? Are you thinking of NOT going to Del Mar and instead go to a closer venue? or two or three? If it were me, I wouldn’t know what to do either, and I don’t have fron row tickets (I have 3rd row tickets). Have you made flight & hotel reservations yet? If not, then you still have some options. So much to think about, especially if David is doing a 10 song set for the Demi/David tour! And the tickets are cheap enough to be able to go to more than one, or two, or three closer to home!!
HG, Jeff seemed to think it would be announced and told us to go home to watch the show. Wasn’t announced? Yeh, what’s up with that? Oh I forgot to mention that at one point in the public meet and greet the mc asked him to sing. Somehow it was decided he would sing Happy Birthday. He asked people with a birthday today to raise their hand. Then, within a split second, the signing David morphed into singing David, still sitting at the table and still with a pen in his hand, and sang the most beautiful and soaring Happy Birthday I have ever heard. Who knew Happy Birthday is such a touching song — especially the way he sang “happy birthday to ‘all the people’” while holding his hand out to people who just raised their hand. It brought tears to my eyes. The place was a makeshift indoor amusement park but for the one minute he sang I felt like I was in Carnegie Hall.

I know what you mean about missing him before he’s even gone, though I never was at a private meet and greet. Sounds like he needs to get some real rest soon.

Poor David! He needs to get some rest! This whole appearance was a special request from a I-X VIP?? Not surprised. In fact, I always thought the Reno/Grand Sierra solo gig venue was actually cuz some VIP associated with the casino requested David, and I kinda think it’s the same thing with Del Mar. There’s some very big VIP’s in high places who are BIG fans of David and have the clout to request David. I may be wrong and it’s JMO.

The most important thing is not where, but WHO. For some reason, this statement touched my heart deeply. I think it is speaks volumes about David’s talent and ability to transcend his surroundings and give his all as though he were performing at Carnegie Hall. That is why I love him, it is all so meaningful to him.

Goboy: Funny you mentioned the screams. When we were in the room with him, we were all very quiet, trying to be respectful, and he kept saying “it’s so quiet here.” I guess he IS expecting the screams to follow him like his shadow these days.
YJ, I think he was probably savoring the quiet for the storm that met on the outside. Doesn’t that level of screams affect hearing over time? Anyone knows?

Choices, choices. I’d rather not go the first show on the tour which is Hartford, CT since shows usually get better as the tour progresses. However, if it’s the only one, time wise, that is convenient for me, I just might have to. How about two shows? One at the beginning of the tour and one at the end. Rapture, I will certainly let you now which I decide! You can’t keep me quiet about this!

I don’t know about anyone else but I’m totally in love with the series of Razor TV interviews. Vee, thanks for alerting us of Part 6; I just watched it. I was so touched at end of Part 6, when the fans waited around after the interview to have their pictures taken with David. Everyone wants their picture taken with David. Do you see the way they look at him? I’m sure we all have that same look on our faces that they have…..awe, amazement, love, adoration. I was particularly touched seeing the adults waiting to have their picture taken. They are our Singapore counterparts. Have you seen part 4 of the Razor TV Interview? Part 4 is my favorite!!! You have to see it. David sings along with himself in this clip. He just can’t help it. And he is so in his element, shappy, so relaxed, so in control, so confident, so smiley. You’ll see what I mean when you watch it. Have I mentioned lately that I simply adore him?

David Archuleta returning to ‘American Idol’
Season Seven runner-up will perform on the April 22 double-elimination episode of ‘Idol’
David Archuleta is the latest “American Idol” veteran scheduled to make his return to the FOX reality smash.
FOX announced that Archuleta will perform next Wednesday (April 22) in an important double-elimination episode of “American Idol.”
The double-elimination was caused, of course, by the judges’ decision to utilize the Save on Matt Giraud, the contestant who received the fewest votes following the April 14 show.
Next Tuesday night will be Disco Night for the Top Seven and the following night will see Disco icons Harry Wayne “KC” Casey (of KC and the Sunshine Band), Thelma Houston and Freda Payne perform a medley of their hits “Get Down Tonight,” “Don’t Leave Me this Way” and “Band of Gold.”
Archuleta, the runner-up to David Cook in “American Idol” Season Seven, will perform “A Little Too Not Over You,” his grammatically twisted new single.

Vee, Thanks for finding the Cleveland interview and the article. “Grammatically twisted”? Does this solve the mystery of why the DJ’s are not playing the song — they are syntactically challenged and can’t say the song title? lol
So David is performing ALTNOY with his band, apparently, next Wednesday, 4/22 on AI. And it is double elimination night, a first for AI so that should draw a huge number of viewers; perhaps this date is not as bad as some first speculated when the change in date of his performance was revealed.
He gets to sing a song he wrote and has rocked out on stage during his solo tour; a single that is currently being promoted by Jive and that DJs can spin the next day--and there are a ton of Top 40 stations around the USA that discuss Idol the day after elimination as a part of their AM line up and there were DJs who were rooting for David last year. So the boost to spins and sales will be a metric we can track in the coming weeks.
David sings that song amazingly and has changed it up during his solo tour and it will be fresh and fun and his stage skills will be new to the AI viewer who hasn’t followed him since the Finale.
And with his band reportedly there with him, well, that will give him an additional power boost, an organic energy source (in addition to what will no doubt be a highly energizing experience for him anyway--to return to AI without judging) to elevate his AI performance of ALTNOY to something new, something totally David. After all, it was the stage of AI that first brought to our attention (for many of us) the magic, the music, the art of David…can’t wait for next Wednesday.

SB: Your Transformation poem is lovely. I was just discussing with my sons, both in early 20′s about “feeling the fear” and then pushing through it and doing what is in your heart. My oldest is getting ready to move to NYC and pursue his destiny in musical theatre and has been vacillating about this since 18.
The boys come from a family of conservatives, anxious conservatives at that, on their Dad’s side, and, there is a special anxiety, a series of thoughts and emotions they are experiencing when they consider a leap or a change. I am always their #1 cheerleader and amazed as they navigate these inherited or perhaps nurtured narrows of anxiety and then make the leap, the change, the transformation to what is their heart’s desire. Thus your poem is so timely. Thanks
