Giving Back
David Vlogs for Invisible Children
Part of our charter for The David Chronicles involves a series of initiatives to try and repay just a little of the joy and fulfillment that David bestows on us through his music and his compassion. While we continue to work on our permanent Giving Back page, we’ll kick off the project with David’s effort to help the smallest victims of the unseen war in Northern Uganda. This is one of the most articulate and mature video blogs we’ve seen from David, and it is powerful to see him continuing to move the attention he generates to those in need.
If you haven’t already, please visit the Invisible Children web site and learn about the wonderful efforts underway to educate the world and improve the circumstances of life in the region.

Thanks for highlighting this. I believe it’s the most important part of his vlog. So many celebrities have their agents telling them that they need to choose a cause and put their name to it. That it is a good career move. (I know this is the case with some)
And David has been involved with this for a few years? Pre-idol, pre-fame? He is remarkable.
It’s never about himself. This is about as worthwhile a cause as I have ever seen.
Every day this young man touches my heart. How he is able to convey such goodness, make it look so right and real…hmmm…dang-well inspiring! I LOVE this guy!
My family went to the local State Park yesterday. Picked up soooooo much trash, it was crazy!
During the course of re-watching the video of last night, when I would pause the DVR–there is one picture that blew me away. When he is walking out from the doors with a mega smile on his face–with the bright light shining behind him- awesome-if I knew how to get a picture off a video I’d do it in a heartbeat. But I’m not that bright . Does any one know how to do this -I’d kill for that picture. Anybody that has a DVR try it and you’ll see what I mean.
Did I mention that I dearly love every pore on his body and every hair on his head?
Brought this over from the old thread-Geez I’m never in the right place.
Had to bring this important post over from previous thread:
beebee, are “noogies” a good thing?
Jello…
Noogies -- good
boogies -- bad
LOL
I am so glad this Giving Back project is starting! Reminds me of the phrase”and a child will lead us”.
Don’t forget to watch FOXRC at 7pm Thursday. Possible David will show up? Here is the web site that has videos of all the interviews they do. Right now they are only current to last week.

From Radar Online….
“The young talent told host Ryan Seacrest he is headed off to the UK to tour. If his popularity carries over the pond — and we think it will — the Brits might be in for the second-coming of Beatle-mania.”
Kind of makes me want to squeee!!!!
JONER!!!!! You so funny…….!
dakgal go back to the older thread and look? I gave you an answer.

When I see David’s focus on helping others, even before the AI limelight, I am always, and this is meant quite sincerely, without exaggeration, making a mental comparison to Albert Schweitzer and his reverence for life. It is one of those real but invisible pulls David exerts on me when I delve into what he chooses to discuss beyond his music. It always leaves me in awe and over joyed.
Just a little bit about Albert Schweitzer and tell me if you don’t see the same reverence for life in David. At the height of his influence, Albert Schweitzer was often referred to as the most famous of living men. He inspired millions by his revelation of how rich a human life can be.
He once said, “No one can give a definition of the soul. But we know what it feels like. The soul is the sense of something higher than ourselves, something that stirs in us thoughts, hopes, and aspirations which go out to the world of goodness, truth and beauty. The soul is a burning desire to breathe in this world of light and never to lose it -- to remain children of light.”
Schweitzer’s general philosophy could be stated as never to destroy life that breathes, unless it is unavoidable. “And by going out of our way to help any living creature in distress we are helping to discharge a debt -- a debt of honor -- which we owe to the rest of creation for its vicarious sacrifice to our needs. It is after all the only sane and reasonable course we can adopt.”
Betsey, #1, “So many celebrities have their agents telling them that they need to choose a cause and put their name to it. That it is a good career move. (I know this is the case with some)
And David has been involved with this for a few years? Pre-idol, pre-fame? He is remarkable.” So agreeing with you. This is what sets David apart.
I was actually holding my breath when I watched David at AI last night. And it was over, too fast! He sounded great, and did what he had to do: dispelling the ballad boy image, showed how articulate he was, and most of all, shone in his happiness! Oh, and he made some excellent moves, turns and bounces!
When I watched his performance again, I realized how good looking he was. In certain shots, he looked almost exactly like when he sang the first imagine, with a more angular face. But over all, he’s plainly gorgeous and adorable. I have yet to think of another guy in AI who’s so pleasing to look at and listen to.
Seacrest did not (could not?) talk to David about his huge accomplishment in one year, and he still interrupted David in mid sentences. Yet he could not help but refer to David as “the lovable David Archuleta” and “the one and only David Archuleta”. OK, I forgive you a little bit, Seacrest.
I don’t think I recall a more sincere young humanitarian than our David. His motivations are so heartfelt and genuine plus he never takes any credit for generating contributions to the charities he supports.
Our David is a genuine force for good in this world. He doesn’t do it for attention or to make himself look good. He just cares so much for others and has such a desire to reach out. I got my new avi to honor David’s return to AI to sing TMH, but as I look at it and think about it now, it represents so much more. He says he likes songs with messages and two that come to mind are Imagine, about world peace, and Another Day in Paradise, about helping those who are in need. When he sang SOT on tour, he said he hoped that we would always know that there is somebody out there for us and that we should be aware of others around us who might need some help. It’s not just talk either, his neighbors and friends have spoken of the kind deeds he has done without being asked, just because he saw someone in need. He is into going green to save the planet and has a saying, “green it like you mean it.” lol. What I am trying to say is, how do you get to be this wise and wonderful at so young an age? For some of us, this is our first time to be a fan of anyone. I guess I waited half my life for a hero to come along. Somehow he is showing me how to be the hero in my own life again.
Angelica, WELL SAID: “I guess I waited half my life for a hero to come along. Somehow he is showing me how to be the hero in my own life again”.
I’ve never been a fangirl of anyone before David. There seems to be so many of us…I dig that!
There simply is no better human being on our planet than David Archuleta. How many examples of it do people need to see this? The pop music world should get down on their collective knees and thank God that David is in the process of cleaning up and dignifying their sleazy business.
Not for 1 second did I or do I think this is really David. Bliss where are you?

As David says “I am pretty sure it’s not me.” He told us he uses Myspace and official site to communicate.
Abrra
Abrra -- It’s been confirmed. This is David’s twitter account and it is David sending the tweets.
Yaaay! Three new tweets from David since I went out shopping! He apologized for his performance last night. Said it was excruciating.
Once again I have to doubt that David would refer to his performance as “excruciating” First of all, it was not excruciating. If it had been. the reviews would have reflected that. The reviews of David’s performance last night were overwhelmingly positive. The only thing excruciating about David is that it’s sometimes hard to absorb how wonderful he is and what a positive force for good he is in the world.
Bliss -- David’s performance was not excruciating to us, but I can see that the perfectionist in him would not have been happy with it.
Remember the way he acted when he heard himself singing Jason Mraz’s song on the radio. We all thought he sounded terrific but he was mortified.
Bliss -- It was confirmed yesterday. This is really David. I am following him on Twitter.
And sorry, he said “excruciatingly unpleasant performance”. I can absolutely see him saying that. He wasn’t at his best, even though he was better than all of the season eight idols combined.
First of all, TMH is a much longer song and it builds to a great finish. I’ve been watching a few of the tour performances and the audience interaction fuels the energy of the whole performance, I have never forgiven AI for robbing David of the title last year, and think they once again disrespected him last night. No mention of the success of his single and CD, etc.
Anyway, on the to UK, which will make last night’s drama disappear and David will be back on stage, performing to thunderous approval.
No one gets away with any unjust criticism of David around me, even David himself!
Oops, it’s “on to the UK”. David is making ME a perfectionist (LOL)
Just finished reading the newest interview with David on “Archuleta Avenue” (Malaysia)
Interesting how he talks about his change in the fit of his clothes. He used to wear everything baggy to “hide little me”. Now he prefers the “tight” fit.
Um, so do we, David!
Angelica #14 -- funny you should say the word “HERO”. This morning I was listening to Maria Carey’s record “HERO” on the radio and it reminded me so much of David. I wish someone could make a tribute video of David to this song. It would be absoultely beautiful. I still think even with his nerves last night he did an AWESOME job! More importantly, he’s so gracious and appreciative of everything and moves on from it.
If we (and that means a great many people) see David for all that he is and for all that he means to everyone, then why is there not ‘Some One Out There’ in the states in the industry who sees him just as we do? Why is it that we, who are not involved in the music industry see so much? Why has not one important newspaper in New York or LA said more then the usual but nothing extraordinary? Finally, why is it such a struggle for someone so fantastic to be properly recognized and respected for who he is in his own country?
I am really tired of this slow train we are on to find him the recognition that he deserves for the here and now…the here being North America.
Maybe the UK will speak out and not sit on lazy a…s.
David was under the usual AI pressure cooker last night and what a place to get out from under.
Angelica #14 -- For some of us, this is our first time to be a fan of anyone. I guess I waited half my life for a hero to come along. Somehow he is showing me how to be the hero in my own life again.
this is me….first timer… and it couldn’t have come at a better time.
i’m glad that this cause is the chosen cause for starters… this is who he is…no pretenses…
he leaves me in awe…
From Snarkies:
“VIP package

SB -- Don’t fret!
The accolades have been coming in since last night’s performance. If people get him than they are the lucky ones. If they don’t, then they can enjoy someone else.
All the more for us!
New tweet! It’s getting addictive.
David’s twitter:
Sorry for those who had to listen to that excruciatingly unpleasant performance last night haha… I’ll make sure that doesn’t happen again!
about 4 hours ago from web
I hate that he’s beating himself up like this. He was wonderful; his nerves just caused him to fall short of his own impossible standards. Poor baby. And now he’s going in that state of mind to the UK which he says will be like “starting over.”
Angelica…when many of us were not just excited for his return performance, but nervous as to how he would be received…we were on the right path. I think that we knew as well as he did just how that return performance could go…and today he needs to feel that he has to start over.
betsy…I like “the more for us” concept!!
David won’t let fangirl die. I’m loving the tweets !!!
I have so much to say.. and no time right now.
But it’s my thursday night..stay up late and frolic through the lovely David fields.
Oh how I love frolicking
Be back later tonight.. after the sun goes down.. all is quiet on the western front..and fangirl is safely away.
I do twitter ….Look what David made me do!!

SB #34 -- It was in the Endless Hallway vlog he did of himself when he returned from Asia that he voiced some anxiety about going to Britain, because in his words, it would be like “starting over.” This was not about AI when he said that. It just grieves me to think he is going over there with his ego a little deflated when he was already apprehensive about the tour. I think he feels he is less known and has far fewer fans in Britain than in North America or Asia.
Whoo!!
I had been watching that Twitter account, thinking it was our david….and recently added it to the ones I am following.
(Good Lord I don’t even really know if I know how to follow- but joined Twitter about 6 months back) This will be so exciting if he starts using Twitter…. For a young man who loves to text, it will be wonderful for him to stay in touch with us that way.
I could not wait to get home to watch David again from last night. It was so good to see him on TV again. He is just captivating. Yes I have been worried about David also. He is so hard on himself. He will be fine, because he is an optimist at heart and has his priorities straight. He is surrounded by lots of people who love him and a collection millions of people across the world sending positve vibes to him… I am sure he is feeling the love and support.
PS Hi everyone!

they did it again…
this posted at fod from richard…
When David tells me it is him on that twitter account, I’ll post it. Until then, all we can do is assume one way or the other.
If it was him, I am proud of him for having the courage to tell people like it is. From a PR standpoint, telling everyone that he wasn’t happy with his performance probably wasn’t the best thing. But, that is what makes him who he is. He is honest, sometimes possibly to a fault. But I would believe him when he would say, “I will never let it happen again.” I think he would do everything in his power to not let it happen again.
However, if he gets sick again (and it does happen -- can you imagine the number of people he has been around? He is human and people get sick, even when all precautions are taken) he may not have a perfect performance at least one more time in his life. I know, I know….. hard to believe. There is no need for over-reacting if this happens. It doesn’t make him any less amazing. It doesn’t change who he is as an artist.
If I get a chance to pass on all of your sentiments, I will. I knew last night as I heard the first note in his performance that something was up. I knew that he was not going to be very happy with it. I don’t fault him for that. His musicality is at such a high level and he knew that it was not his best. I’m proud of him for recognizing that and admitting it rather than demanding that everyone just say “You are amazing because you are David Archuleta” and him saying “Yes, I am!” I think he really has a deep desire to give a perfect performance every time he can for you, the fans. I don’t think he ever wants to disappoint. I also know he will not hold onto anything very long. He’ll move past it and just blow us all away on his next performance. Just watch. I know he works hard and will always give the best performance he can, in every circumstance. He still continues to amaze me.
meant now have a twitter account…ugggg!

Thanks for posting Richard’s letter. I have been feeling low today because of the Twitter thing. I just can’t believe it’s David, but if it is, I will take heart in Richard’s words that David will move past this rather fast.

I just rewatched David’s Vlog right after his performance on AI. You know what part I really love that he says…..it’s the part where he mentions how great it was to be back there with the STAFF…yes, the staff…isn’t he amazing. What other artist would even think to mention the staff. It’s right in the beginning pretty much. I just thought I’d share my thoughts because this is truly one of the reasons…one of the many reasons…why I love David.
djafan Yaay! I joined Twitter yesterday and it is a fun distraction. For awhile, anyway.
The weird and awesome thing for me is….I got a twitter from John Mayer. I don’t want to bore everyone in the universe with it but!~ He said something funny, I replied back to it with a slightly witty comment. And he replied back, referencing what I said to him. It was so cool!
Okay, okay, I know he’s a known twitterer and does it to just about everyone, but still!
I hope David keeps us in the loop while in the UK.
If David is on that plane, right now, to the UK with one OUNCE of regret feeling that last night’s performance has somehow disappointed his fans, it would break my heart!
Where’s that “freakin’” Concord when you need it…I need to get over there and give him a big hug RIGHT NOW!
David’s Twitter added to the sidebar —-->
If it’s him, we can watch it, if it’s not, we’ll know soon enough.
GAH!!! Betsy! I am only following “our” David, John Mayer, and Jason Mraz on twitter (test run).
Can I just say that John Mayer is “quite” the twitterer….
Interestingly, what you discover on twitter, is that “our” David has chosen to follow Jason Mraz, John Mayer, Syesha and Brooke. I’m sure he’ll add more, but these were his first picks.
Kind of a tell, don’t you think?

what has kept me from taking it to heart is his comments about forgetting the lyrics when he was on idol. he felt bad but moved on. i think this will be the same, he feels bad, but will put this behind him. hey we have his back…and he must know that tmh is doing pretty good on itunes along with his cd.
And please go register http://www.mcflyofficial.com/home/

hehe…did this yesterday…now to keep track of all my david related accounts…lol
djafan Yaay! I joined Twitter yesterday and it is a fun distraction. For awhile, anyway.
i’m still trying to figure it out…
sf! -- can we have a uk prayer?
djafan.. David’s branching beyond his circle. That does really surprise anyone ? He’s maturing, stretching his wings, and letting it rip. Does he really need to confirm or deny whatever to anyone? He may not change who he IS, but how he leads his life will most certainly change.
You know what.. at this point.. I don’t really care .. I’m having fun..and that’s all that matters.
Let’s let this die a slow and painless death.
Right now I need everyone sending me good vibes on the VIP passes.
I’ll send my good vibes to anyone here trying to get them as well.
Everyone’s gonna start trying to fight over who has more insider information, or who has the best connections.. and David’s going to tell us all to piss off.
Okay.. well maybe not piss off..but you get my drift.
He’d SO not down with the infighting. It’s not his style..and would be really disappointed in the way it’s all going down.
I for one.. won’t disappoint him.
Well, we at TDC know WE don’t have the best connections….LOL! Someone else can stake that claim.
Oh….and I forgot, he’s also following Benton Paul (his opening act from SLC).
What’s cool is that Brooke and Benton Paul talk about David in their twitters.
This is like the Six Degrees of David Archuleta personified!
OMG….I thought I needed to get a life before. I think Twitter has just gobbled up my remaining life force.
“Live long and prosper”… *waves*
Please correct me if I am wrong but I am assuming that this is their first concert of the tour…I guess they have the fans jumping as well…SB
Up close and personal with McFly
This was the launch of their Up Close…But This Time It’s Personal tour – and it definitely was. I’ve seen them at the NEC but this was so much better.
The crowd was near enough to observe the band up close and get sprayed with guitarist Dougie Poynter’s bottle of cola.
Click here to see more pictures.
The band played all their big hits, opening with One For The Radio which sent the crowd into a frenzy from which they never recovered. Five Colours In Her Hair, the song that made them big, and Lies probably went down the best although it was hard to tell given the constant wall of screams.
The band looked as if they were really enjoying themselves and kept up their usual patter with the audience. At one stage, drummer Harry Judd did a ‘Facts About Wolverhampton’ spot, including a congratulations to Wolves for getting promoted which was greeted with equal cheers and boos.
One of the highlights was a cover version of Girls Aloud’s Christmas hit The Promise which was a big improvement on the original. The stage looked slightly spooky, with bits of rag strung between two giant fans, giving the effect of a Halloween film set but the gig was definitely more treat than trick.
The fans sang along very loudly all night and when guitarist Danny Jones shouted “Jump!” as they went into their second number, the crowd didn’t have to be told twice.
This was a typically energetic, upbeat performance from a band that have built up a very loyal and steadily growing fan base.

yeah… i got caught in that yesterday. i just don’t seem to have much tolerance for those that have a holier than thou attitude…though, i didn’t mean to generalize. but that’s behind me, learning from david. “tolerance”
i am having loads of fun, not getting much done at work or home, i do need to figure out a balance… but not today.
vip passes, yes good vibes. the link says they will go on sale today at 4pm for july 17, but it just available soon. i keep checking.
marlie7 #51 -- amen to that!
joner #52…that is so funny..and so “us”…at least some of us…
Having been w/out computer access the past few days, I believe I’m the only fan who still hasn’t seen the TMH video. I did see the TMH performance on AI; I honestly thought it was TERRIFIC!
I look forward to the launching of the Giving Back page and I thank all of the TDC columnists, etc., for making this happen.
Did anyone from this site attend the taping of the AI show? I was wondering if the performance segments where shown in the same order that they were actually taped.
Djafan as requested.

Hi everyone!
I totally get David’s frustration at his performance and quite frankly I’d never want him to downplay it. We respect his artistry and we don’t want to patronise him. He knows what good singing is -- it’s second nature to him -- and that was not good, just ok. His stage presence though was great. He shines!
I’m back home from work after an inexplicably depressing day. I was short-tempered, but mostly so sad I couldn’t be bothered to start a fight. My heart is still heavy and I long for something good coming from my beloved Uk so I can shake it off, let it go! Love hurts, lol! My football team lost in the semi-final after leading the whole championship and I couldn’t care less. David has a so-so performance and my world crumbles! My nephew has just called me to ask if I’d seen Susan Boyle. Gosh! I don’t care about that woman, great though she is.
valbraz…David will soon have a wonderful concert and is always full of surprises for everyone. He was sick with a cold and it was amazing that he could be so good.
He is carrying so many responsibilities on his shoulders that is why we worry sometimes.
We don’t know completely why we have this strong attraction to David but we do and we happily have to live with it.
There are many more things that I should be worried about right now but sometimes there are just too many to constantly worry about and so we just don’t…life’s a mystery.

valbraz, it’s all good. We all have bumps in the road. I imagine there are many bumps David has had to deal with that we are not even aware of, personally and professionally. And whether this was even a bump depends on who you talk to. The most important assessment is Davids, and he will do what he seems to always do, look at it honestly, learn from it and move forward positively and resolutely. I think he is part bulldog, part teddy bear (and a very smart bulldog, very s*xy teddy bear.)
* I still have a little trouble actually saying it because I could be his much older mom.
Valbraz #61 I can so relate! My hours at work have been drastically cut, and my position changed, both of which seriously affects alot of aspects in my life--job related and personal.
Today was the funeral of a special friend from high school, and I couldn’t go. Then,I found out from a lady that stopped in at work, that one of my BFF’s from elementary thru high school days, has melanoma cancer. She has been given 3-12 months.
I came home from work severely in need of something up-lifting, and I read David’s self-deprecating comments about last night’s performance, and it’s all over for me. I was just sitting at the computer in a stupor, and my husband walked in with a small, pink stuffed piggy and handed it to me. It brought a smile he has no idea what piggys mean to DA fans). I’m still sad, but with the piggy on my lap and the comments from all of you here, I’ll make it thru. thanks.
On to the UK!! Take the Brits by storm!!I (we) love David Archuleta!!
Times like this we need a chat room session. /sigh

David’s pictures during AI performance. He looked happy!!!
Hi everyone! I feel like “Tweety Bird”…You know, the little yellow cartoon birdie. Just what we need…another way to feed our obsession of David! Tweet-tweet!
David is still in the air, and I’m still on air. I Loved the way David looked on AI, and I have not come across any negative reviews..except for his own. He is such a perfectionist. I thought he was wonderful! I know everyone thinks he could have done better, but I was very satisfied with his performance. His smiles were priceless, beautiful! And I slept like a baby last night..mostly from exhaustion after the anticipation and excitement of seeing David on AI again…it’s over now..He can move on, forget AI. I am anyway! He can do what he was born to do, keep following his destiny.
Good night everyone! And for David…
Dear Lord,
Please take care of David. Watch over him, protect him from all harm. Cloak him with your love and give him the strength to endure all that is thrown in his path. Give David the courage and guidance to say no to those who ask for more than he can reasonably give. Surround David with loving and supportive people who love him UNCONDITIONALLY as we, his Archangels do. Separate David from those who have agendas other than for his well being. Give him rest when he’s weary. Give him stamina to sustain his hectic pace. Give him assurance when he feels doubt. Give him joy when he feels sad. Cloak him always in your protective arms during this time on his journey. Keep David and HIS VOICE healthy & strong as he fulfills his Destiny which was written in his Book of Life before he was born.
Though we may be unworthy, we humbly pray.
Amen.
David..
May your journey to the UK be a happy & safe one and all you hope for and deserve! May your positive and good Karma continue to attract those with positive and good Karma! May you continue to encounter goodwill and happiness! May you continue to be healthy and strong throughout your journey in the UK. Keep with you all our love, prayers and warm thoughts! We will miss you badly, and will always love you madly!
Contigo siempre con amor!
And keep on dancin’!!

Hey everyone! I’ve got a lot of catching up to do here on TDC. Thanks, Rascal, for highlighting one of David’s cherished charities. I was deeply amazed that, after being so nervous and so hyped about his AI performance, he took the time to reach out to his fans AND remind us of an upcoming event relating to the Invisible Children.
I love David’s blogs and vlogs and his occasional text messages; however, I personally prefer that he keeps his minute-to-minute or hour-to-hour thoughts to himself by NOT updating on Twitter.
I’ll just be blunt, and I know I’m getting old when I say such things (which I have done with folks my age): Twitter will be the end of our civilization.
I cannot stand twitter and the “tweet culture” that has popped up; I think it encourages very bad writing skills. I’ve seen sentences that have been taken out of context (because, yes, it’s a specific skill to express what you say in very few words). I’ve seen tweets that have almost cost a major online business like Amazon.com lose hundreds of customers (all because someone suggested on a twitter that the company was pulling all gay books from its shelves). I’ve seen public break-ups dissolve on twitter; I’ve known of someone who lost a job he just was offered over twitter. And then there’s the obvious: as a long-winded person, I’m so not trying to express myself to others in a sentence or less.
However, let’s just take David as a case in point. Part of the reason why I was away from this site today was because I was on another fan site. So caught up was I in the discussion that ensued in which many Archies got really upset and in a tizzy because they read David’s tweet which apologized for his “excruciatingly unpleasant” performance on AI.
See what happens when you use a site that encourages you to share your private thoughts? See what happens when all you have is a mere sentence with no context (other than the performance itself, but for all we know, there may have been other factors that surfaced in between his performance and when he tweeted)?
Now, had David simply stuck to his vlogs after his AI appearance, like we’ve been used to, we would have been totally cool and contented, and we would have been over the moon and overjoyed that we’ve got such a sweet, thoughtful, awesome idol to look up to. We were all feeling so good about David and about ourselves because of his performance and the vlog that came after.
But of course the story doesn’t end there. Oh no! David had to go “tweet” and let us into his most intimate thoughts, where he felt the need to express his “embarrassment” and to apologize for what he perceived to be a less than stellar performance. It took me a number of hours to get through the very heated and distraught discussion among his fans all because of TWITTER…
So, it’s cool that David wants to keep us informed and it’s way cool that he treats us like his intimate friend. But, there are some boundaries that I want to honor between myself and the public figure whom I love and admire. Sometimes there really is TMI.
David, keep the blogs and vlogs coming!
But please leave your insecure thoughts to yourself and definitely off twitter.
Abrra…we do really need a chat room once in a while…the ones we did have were very good…
HG…you have brought to attention something that I have had at the back of my mind today. When something is new and intimate we have no idea what the outcome could be. Twitter would be best left behind for David because of the many reasons you have given. It just can be so damaging as emails are bad enough to be misinterpreted.
There does need to be a distance between performers and fans or privacy is lost completely and you may as well put yourself on the cover of The National Enquirer..
I was just going to write a note as I was wondering where everyone was tonight.
Thanks for mentioning the perils of twitter…
SB, glad to know I’m not the only one with reservations over this whole twitter thing.
I hadn’t realized there was no one else around? It is getting late, I suppose.
I’m here. I don’t mind Twitter as long as people are just saying stuff like “Hey, just landed at Heathrow” or those kinds of things. I agree about not posting your intimate thoughts. Especially when you’ve just had a moment where you aren’t happy with something you did. No one else might have even noticed. Or could care less because they love you anyway
It’s not just Twitter that can cause all sorts of trouble. Any open communication vehicle, especially those that are anonymous, can be a problem.
HG & SB -- I am here too! But I am there as well! I just started doing this yesterday. But HG -- you might find this interesting:
johncmayer Twitter is totally helping my lyric writing. You don’t get that much more than 140 characters in a verse.
I think we have had an exhausting week. All worried about David and AI. Maybe everyone is sleeping it off, in preparation for the UK vids sure to come this weekend.
HG, you are astoundingly wise. I once followed MJ from Mj’sbigblog, the day she was going to meet David at a meet and greet at a radio station. It was rather innocuous and pointless, and frankly there is so much going on in life in general that tweeting just takes away from that. It’s bad enough the little time I get to spend on the internet, tweeting would just be insane.
I am sorry David was disappointed in his Idol return last night. For anyone else it would have been a triumph, but David is a perfectionist, and since it wasn’t quite up to par for him, he said so. Prolly shouldn’t have said it, but that’s David honest to a fault.
Finally, David’s is the quintessential giver. He does it in so many ways. He also leads by example. He is a formidable human being, and he’s only 18. Imagine what the future holds for him. I know of other idols involved in philanthropic endeavors but the ones that really impress me are the ones who started them before their idol journey. It proves that this is something organic to their humanity and not a PR gesture. That David chose this particular charity speaks volumes. I am more proud of him for this, than his wonderfully ebullient return to the idol stage. He continues to move and inspire me.
Twitter is just one vehicle out of many encouraging miscommunication. I really shouldn’t vilify it (but I will just the same cause I’m just resistant to it -- especially when everyone in the culture is all about joining it).
Marlie, I agree about pointing out flaws. David’s tweet was almost the equivalent of complaining about some huge scar on your face that no one else noticed, but as soon as you mentioned it, everyone starts looking more closely!
I personally thought David was fine, and from his vlog, I would’ve guessed he was fine with it too. Then twitter told another story…
“Hey, just landed at Heathrow.” I agree, Marlie. These kinds of tweets are innocuous enough. Even then, do we really need him to intensify our ODD with all these details from his life?
First, let me say I love this community and I feel better simply by sharing and hearing from you.
HG,
I totally agree. Maybe he felt compelled to let us know he is aware of what went on, or maybe just wanted to hear from fans we were there for him. Whatever the reason, let’s hope this doesn’t escape his management’s scrutiny and he is warned against the risks involved. At MJ’s non-fans were saying that while they can appreciate his honesty and awareness, this was potentially harmful. Amazing the affection and admiration he gets even in ‘less-than-friendly’ environments.

I have to agree with you HG. I was quite thrilled with seeing David on the AI stage and no it wasn’t his BEST, but just like last year, to me, David’s worst is far, far, far, better than most. Last night and this morning almost ALL of the buzz about David’s performance on AI were basically positives and I felt really happy. But when I read David’s tweet I felt like it has rained on my parade. I feel like I got the wind knocked out of me.
And look at our house, the mood is soo sober and subdued. David did a wonderful job last night! I know he is hard on himself, but I am not used to hearing this kind of “negativity” from him. When he mess up on WCWIO, he say, well I can’t do anything about it, just have to go on (paraphasing). He performed TMH worlds better than WCWIO. I hope I don’t get evicted, but I also perfer if David kept those type things to his inner circle and just blog, vlog, and tweet basic information.
I was actually like Bliss on this tweet, is this really David? I came almost take David calling his performance “embarrassing”, but “excruciatingly unpleasant”? And “I’ll make sure it doesn’t happen again”. Wow! that’s seems like an unrealistic thing to say.
I guess David still doesn’t realize just how good he really is. He is just getting to the point when he knows he has fans to love him and will pay to hear HIM. He doesn’t like his voice and that’s even when he at his best. So I guess he doesn’t feel like he had his A-game on, well…David you did great, not perfect but still better than most.
Something to make us smile.. AI still can make “bump” on someone’s career…

i’m here too…pondering the twitter thing…it seems harmless but some very valid points are being made. david being david is just so honest and is his own worst critic. my reaction to his feeling about his performance were the same as when he says he’s funning and weird looking, that he hates his voice, so i didn’t see it as bad as others have…i’ve kinda gotten used to him saying these things, again david just being david.
brooklyndawn -He continues to move and inspire me.
me too….
David, you should looked/listened/read all the good things about your AI performance last night. Of course you can’t please everyone but your die hard fans are so thrilled just to see you smiling face last night. To hear your voice was a bonus.

What we talked about: Archuleta on Idol.
Video….David Archuleta performed on Idol last night, here’s the performance in case you missed it.
Goboywonder, I’ve got to say, of all the words David tweeted, his “I’ll make sure it doesn’t happen again” was the most disturbing.
I mean, where would he ever get the idea that any of his die-hard fans would abandon him if it “happened again” (singing with less than perfect vocals)?
That part was the most un-David of his comments, which I’m sure is what got people worrying.
Sigh. I worry about him even when everything’s going good! I don’t want to add to these worries the pressures (internal and external) that are getting to him.
I hope he has a great time in the U.K.
Anyway, I need to get to bed.
G’nite all!
I’m here. We’ll just have to see how this twitter thing goes. It seemed OK to me that he said what he did. I understand it and appreciate his honesty. I just felt bad that he took it so hard. Most everyone thought, and still thinks, he was great and know what a perfectionist he is. Being a fan of David I imagine, is not like being a fan of anyone else. I have no experience in these matters, but I suspect most celebrities are much more guarded about their feelings and thoughts. You never know what to expect with David, and I love that about him. He’s vulnerable on stage and at times off and those moments when he reveals his deepest feelings connect us to him. He is always so positive and willing to share his joy with us. If he wants to occasionally share his angst and insecurities, he can tell me all about it and I will hurt with him. Every layer he reveals just makes me love him more.

I’m not going to dwell on the fact that season 7 runner-up David Archuleta didn’t give his strongest outing Wednesday night on “American Idol.”
http://3391.voxcdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/04/david-archuleta-01-2009-04-22.jpg
(A NICE PICTURE OF HIM)
I’m going to forgive his par comeback performance of his third single, “Touch my hand.” After all, he has been ill for the past week. It was still better than most.
Seeing our little Archie back on the Idol stage brought back some memories, but it was different somehow. His confidence and stage presence skyrocketed him past all his performances from a year ago – combined. My how he has grown as an artist. I’ve known it ever since I saw him on the American Idol Live Tour last summer, but I suspect millions more found it out just this week as he bounced around the stage with the huge smile on his face and more swagger than he had ever shown before.
There will always be a gigantic place in my musical soul for David Archuleta, no matter how successful he is in the eyes of the mainstream pop music industry. His voice is undeniable, and his aura just makes you want to smile and root for him. Part of my, shall we say, obsession last season was watching interview after interview and reading article after article about that kid. I almost feel like I know him personally. He is a genuinely good guy who avoids confrontation, appreciates every opportunity that comes his way and likes to create music with meaning. I have so much respect for him and look up to him in so many ways, despite him being six whole years younger than I am. Plus, he’s a fantastic role model for younger kids.
My experience at the Idol tour proved to me just how much of an effect he has on people. I attended the Kansas City concert – which is the hometown of David Cook. Of course, 99 percent of the crowd were clad in DC attire and looking at me strangely in my “No one sings it betta than David Archuleta” T-shirt. (Yes, you read that correctly.) But by the second song in Archie’s set, he had the Cook crowd eating out of the palm of his hand. I mean, EVERYONE was standing and screaming. I was so proud as an Archie fan and as a Kansas City native for them to show such respect for the former nemesis. And it’s not an easy audience to please; we love our hometown heroes.
And the Archuleta fanatics are even more cordial. I think they strive to live up to his standard. It’s like being part of an elite group, and only members “get” it. (Yup, I “get” it, too.) But I could go on and on. How about the rest of the show?

my feelings exactly…this and everything before it. i don’t know if this is normal being a fan, since never have been one before. but i’m in for life.
I don’t know why I am surprised by this but….I went to the AI website to see just what they had to say about David’s appearance last night.
Not one word.

American Idol Results: Adam Lambert, Kris Allen Thrive, David Archuleta Returns
April 23, 2009
Joshua Molina--HispanicBusiness.com
Here are some highlights from last night’s results show.
The Return Of “Archie”: Last season’s David Archuleta returned to the Idol stage to sing “Touch My Hand” from his new album. The runner-up from last season, Archuleta looked great on stage and showed off his incredible vocal range. The 18-year-old, whose rendition of “Imagine” was last season’s highlight, is now embarking on a European tour to promote his album.
The Gracious: After singing, Archuleta walked over to Desai and Iraheta, who was not eliminated, but was in the bottom three, and told them that their journey doesn’t end here if eliminated. Archuleta, incredibly genuine and humble, showed some class when he could have easily used all of his airtime to promote his album.
HG- I know you’ve gone to bed, as will I in a moment. Just had time to skim the comments and wanted to say…
“I hate twitter. I love you.”
(pretty short…it could be a twitter.
)
This twitter business will create an epidemic of Foot in Mouth disease. It’s way too self indulgent. Do you really want to know if someone just bought a box of Brillo? The expression “I wonder what so and so is doing tonight” will become obsolete.
Somebody needs to tell David that he doesn’t have to hit a home run every time. Last night was a double, which isn’t bad. David will have more home runs than Barry Bonds in his career. One thing David never does is strike out. He gives a maximum effort every time he performs, and it was obvious he did that last night. His fans love him for that, and he could stand up there and read the Magna Carta, and it would be the highlight of the night.
As for TMH,the only people who even knew that is was not David’s best were his fans, who have either been to or seen videos of his great performances of the song on his tour. As I’ve said before, David does not lose fans. The people he was trying to win over had no basis of comparison, and they thought it was great. The song is already climbing the charts.
Next !!!!!

“If he wants to occasionally share his angst and insecurities, he can tell me all about it and I will hurt with him. Every layer he reveals just makes me love him more.”
I guess as a fan, I already know how very hard David is on himself. As a fan I already know from his demeanor in the vlog that he was not happy with his performance. And as a fan, I will leave a comment on the vlog letting him know I thought he gave a fantastic performance. But the comments on the tweeter/twitter(?) are more personal, and it’s not so much that I don’t want to know about it, I think they require more that just a passing reply and I have no way of communicating with him on that level. I can’t really give him feedback. It makes me worry for him. Does that make sense? I love David and want him to be happy and positive and do well all the time, and when he make statements like that, I don’t get to say, “Hey wait a minute young man…” or “Oh David if you could only hear “you” the way I do.” That’s why I said he should say these things to the people in his inner circle they can say the things he needs to hear to help him when he is feeling doubtful or insecure. Idk (insert very say face here).
Re. the twitters, initially they brought tears to my eyes. Upon the 2nd reading, I felt it was his way of releasing frustration so he could move on. In time, he’ll learn like the rest of us that there’s no such thing as perfection. If he had had the opportunity to speak w/a close friend immediately following the performance, we probably wouldn’t have seen those twitters. I’m sure one of his close friends has been in contact w/him and he’s feeling much better.
In the long run, the twitters won’t hurt him. After all, it’s not like he pleaded “not guilty” to assaulting Rhianna, got caught using a Ponzi scheme to swindle millions or accepted a huge bonus after running a company into bankruptcy. He merely announced to the world that he didn’t feel good about his AI performance. I can live with that and I hope he can too.
Honestly, whenever David said mean things about himself, like about his look, about his voice, it bugged me. It bugged me more than when he forgot his lyrics at AI.
So his latest harsh comments got on me again. So, HG, thanks for bring up the discussion on #70. Now desertrat, at #94, thanks for putting things into perspective for me. I suddenly got it. And Bliss at #92, you are right about Next!!!!!!
Without a question David’s beauty comes from his heart and soul, an old soul and a compassionate heart. As he matures and has many more opportunities to travel around the world, his conviction to help others will only deepen. What an amazing journey this young man is on. And us too. I am so grateful he came along.
About the previous post by rascal, I couldn’t agree more that it is unfortunate that things such as music videos or anything to do with the artists’ image are handled and produced by people who don’t “get” the artist. Even in reading the story told by Yvette, the Malaysian fan who spent the day with David, you get that fans are the ones who know him best, outside of his family and friends that is. I am thinking of the part of the story about her trying to butt in during the photoshoot. Even if she were wrong about his lip color being too artificially red, she knew the make-up was too much, therefore not David like. Fans know these things. These people, these professionals, art directors, what have you, know their craft but are woefully ignorant of the subject matter they are dealing with. As rascal says, they have preconceptions and assumptions going in without truly understanding what they are dealing with. So the end product could end up having a thinner superficial feel. I’m thinking verneer (NOT vermeer haha).
Too bad consulting some fans would not enter these professionals’ minds. They can learn so much more about what David’s appeal is to those who fell under his spell. They can create something so much more potent, something that would truly reflect David’s essence and beauty which deep and rich.
I’m rambling. Late night again.
Valbraz, from the last thread also, I agree it’s too bad the nasty posters are just allowed to blab but it’s a tricky thing to know when it’s appropriate to silence someone, I’m sure, especially in a public place like a fansite. Possibly the admins are not necessarily reading all the hundreds of comments and may not be aware. I don’t know… There’ll always be some people who are bent on being petty for whatever reason, unfortunately. But I think the majority of people are not like those few. It’s bizarre to me that this one individual has already badmouthed TDC would still come back to read some more at this site. What for I ask?
We are all fans of David and it is a hugely diverse fanbase which is really a thing of a beauty (is this the right expression? My non-native speaker side comes out when I’m tired).
Time to stop writing. Good night to whoever who is up at this hour! Oh, one more thing! Two people, hubby and good friend, who are both non fans, were very positive about David’s performance on AI. I was really surprised by their reactions and pleased to know that from the perspective of those who have not been watching David with a microscope and dissecting and analyzing his every move and nuance in his singing for a year plus, he was “much better than expected” and he had “such stage presence compared to the AI days and looked so confident!” I squealed! I love you David Archuleta!!!
Oh my gosh Bliss! You took the words out of my mouth on the baseball anology. My HS son has played for 10 years now and he is yet to hit a home run, but a single, RBI or double is
something that makes my night. David made our nights and definately hit a single or double. His biggest competition is the standard he sets for himself. We wish for him no struggles but that is part of life for all of us, giving us wisdom and perspective. Ok- off to work….although my venue goes on sale at 1:00 for the VIP passses- Got to think everyone cannot sit in the first two rows, so I will be on
at 12:59 sharp to get my tickets.
Good Luck rae.. mine go on sale at 3:00 .. if I miss that one.. I have one more chance at 5:00 ..
sending you and anyone here trying to get the VIP pass.. GOOD LUCK !!
I hope we all Score !!!!
Good morning everyone!
Please let me clarify my position. Yes, David’s “feel bad” tweets made me love him all the more for being so concerned about our perceptions of him and for being so honest and vulnerable. It’s Twitter that I’m not fond of.
You had better believe, when I read David’s words -- even when he added “ha ha”s and “lol”s with them -- that I wanted to reach into my computer screen and give him a bear hug and shower him with lots of encouraging, self-esteem-building words. However, it was the “panic” that he created among his fanbase that has me concerned over twitter.
You all know that, had it been some music or TV critic who described David’s performance as “excruciatingly unpleasant. I hope he doesn’t do it again,” we’d all be in an uproar. Instead, this came from David himself, and because we are the kinds of fan who love David madly, deeply, passionately, and obsessively, his words were enough to send some of us over the edge. Even among non-fans, I’ve seen people jump to all the wrong conclusions -- from suggesting he get some therapy to deal with his self-esteem issues to now conjecturing whether or not his “stage dad” has contributed to his high expectations for himself (yes, some people went there).
That, my friends, is what a few careless words can do: careless words, I might add, that were enabled by Twitter.
If David didn’t have twitter, we would not have this kind of drama. David would have instead confided to a friend, who as others have said, would have done for him what so many of us can’t.
I was thinking of buying a ticket today until I realized that if you do you will be buying the Demi fanclub package…so I think I will still wait for the general public sale since I am only there for DAVID!
I agree with you hellogorgeous in the fact that we, his fans, love David and hate seeing him “disappointed” at his performance but for people who are not his fans and who don’t “get” him…they might misconstrue what he said or “take it and run with it”. But, all that matters is that we’re they’re for David no matter what…we care so much for him and feel his anxiety and nervousness…we wish him well in the U.K. and can’t wait to see videos again…..right?
P.S. I refuse to buy that Demi Lovato fanclub package please read my comment above at #100!! Mass Exodus folks!
All in all, I don’t have a problem with David twittering his thoughts. Most people are used to seeing his sunny and smiling said, and it’s jarring to see another side. It is hard to see him being so hard on himself (and he’s setting himself up by saying that “it won’t happen again” — of course, he’ll be sick and have an ‘off’ day at some point in the future like anyone else), but he’s clearly a harsh critic of his music.
HG, I see where you are coming from. But is it the message or the media that creates the “controversy”? Is it his use of tweeter or the choice of words that “disturbed” some of us, his die-hard fans? He could have said “excruciatingly unpleasant” in his blog or vblog. Would it upset us less? He always conducted himself in a way wise beyond his years that sometimes we forgot he is still growing up, and has to do it in public, in this age of 24/7 instantaneous information dissemination. The technology has so far benefited him tremendously --he is beloved all over the world (well, in some parts of the world anyway) thanks to the marvel of YouTube –the Asian fans have never seen him in person yet knew and appreciated every minutiae detail about him. With tweeter, I think he is just trying out all different technologies to connect with his fan, and, in time he will figure out what works and what doesn’t work for him. It’s part of his growing up and learning curve as an artist in this new information age. I feel we are fortunate that he is not being “managed” by some kind of publicist and he trusted us enough to share with us his inner feelings, be they joy and angst, as he travels in his journey and evolves as an artist. His vulnerability and guilelessness is a big part of what we love about him and I will always try to remember he is only 18. (Hopefully this makes some sense.)
hg 99, I agree, this twitter thing can be a sticky wicket.
Do I look forward to them and get excited reading them and soak up every word that comes from him, yes. It makes me feel an even more personal connection. But that also is where it gets sticky. And the problem comes from the receiver end, not the sender. Your example about Jeff was perfect. Too much conjecture about his personal life and feelings is not good for David. And I am not just talking about his career.
It is David’s caring that spurred those twitters. His caring is one of the things that separates him. For me, I would love to hear his every thought and feeling. I would so love to go there. But for him, I do not.
*just want to clarify, I realize David is not going to be using this medium to express his EVERY personal thought and feeling. And I think yjfanofdavid is right about the test drive and figuring it all out. And David is very wise in these matters and will figure out what works best for him.
another malaysia interview…
let me try again
In approximately 2 hours 55 minutes, the VIP tickets go on sale for my concert date here in Michigan. I drained a bit of my profit sharing to do this.
I consider this vital to my state of well being! I have yet to see David. This will be the ultimate treat. My husband says he wants me to do this, however…. I know it will be thrown up at me in the next four months. No matter. My sister and I will have the time of our lives.
As for the tweets -- I have a feeling he started this all on his own and now the “Official David People” are upset that they weren’t informed about it first.
betsy -- so happy for you. It needs to be shared with someone special, so glad your going with your sister.
Seize the day!
Betsy,Where/how did you find out about the time for the VIP sale for each venue? (Why are we thrown one curveball after another? lol)
Twitter’s here to stay, we need to get over it.
David shared some of his personal thoughts with his fans and obviously must have felt safe in doing so which says alot about how he feels about his fans.
I equate the hand-wringing about his emotional well-being or possible management pressure to a similar reaction when David recommended Michael Jackson’s “Stranger in Moscow” as a song and everyone went off the deep end thinking the dark lyrics were a reflection of some personal struggles he was going through.
Geez, just let him talk and be honored he feels comfortable enough to do so with his fans.
If we say we love him unconditionally then accept his candidness. It’s part of who he is.
I’m not so sure about the Twitter business and David’s public critique of himself, but I am sure that after a test drive, David will know the best way to use this technology. It is ironic that a performance David considered “excruciatingly unpleasant” actually gained him new fans. You see signs of it in the reviews and on the blogs.
I have been trying to convert a circle of family and friends to David for months. Outside of one granddaughter, most have politely dismissed my proselytizing as an amusing old-lady thing. However, these same people watched David perform Wednesday night because they were curious about MY obsession. To a person, they said how much they enjoyed the performance. They were surprised and very impressed.
They are now asking me for YouTube recommendations. Three have already purchased his music; and one (after a day at YouTube) is planning to go to a summer tour concert in his city. I was once the object of gentle teasing, but now I look like a music guru. LOL. Can I just say that I am loving my newly acquired credibility?
I agree with Joner (#112). Also, what I don’t like is when people in David’s circle (I won’t mention anyone specifically by name here) were sharing their opinions about the nature of David’s tweets, and how he was possibly overreacting. Let David speak for himself.
The word “boundaries” comes to mind. For someone as sensitive and self-critical as David, I hope that he constructs some boundaries for himself on what he wants to share.
And as for the nature of Twitter itself. Gah -- do we ODDer’s really need one more thing to be obsessive about haha!
I’m not a fan of most of these public tools, MySpace, Facebook, Twitter. I signed up just so I could read blogs from David and the band. Twitter has its place, I guess, but I had hoped David would tweet about the trip. Telling us he landed in the UK, he was doing a sound check, first concert is over -- had a blast. Things like that.
It bugs me when I hear that other twitterers post something every other minute. I’m not interested in the daily minutia of anyone’s life -- even David’s -- to follow something like that. Tell me you are standing in front of a beautiful painting in a museum and you are awed, tell me you just met McFly and they are fun (or not), tell me you are traveling through beautiful countryside and saw an 800 year old church.
Other than that, TMI.
joner, agree with you 100 percent. “Geez, just let him talk and be honored he feels comfortable enough to do so with his fans.”
If everyone in his fandom could and would do what you just said, it would be great. But that is where my concern comes in.
And wildfires can be started by the smallest spark.
I will admit I am not a fan of all the new technology. A bit old-fashioned in that regard. Just a little unsure what some of the ramifications of these types of things could be. I do think that most celebrities will have to do some amount of twittering or they may get a little left behind.
here’s my take.
David wants to twitter.
I think David LOVES the connection.
I’m not going to “presume” why… this isn’t a fanbase decision, it was his.. and he’s certainly enjoying it. Here’s a young man that throws himself into his career 150%, he’s got little contact with family or long time friends, he’s out of touch, and disconnected to all the things he’s grown up comfortable around.
He’s running to place to place, unfamiliar faces, unfamiliar surroundings, and everyone needs a touchstone. A grounding, something that reconnects them to who they are.
All people his age.. are all about the rage of myspace/facebook/youtube/twitter/texting. I’m NOT David’s age, but use all the above. I’m not obligated…but if I want to share something.. I can.
Is he hard on himself? Of course, we are all our own worst critics, David isn’t any different there. I love these glimpses of David that reminds us.. he really is just as human as the rest of us.
He’s honest. He’s not happy about his performance, and I think this goes hand in hand with how he feels when he look in the mirror. OF course we’re all going to say he looks great, he sounded great.
David is transitioning from shy boy to an opinionated strong man. He’s starting to embrace his individuality, and with that comes self critique.
He didn’t decide to try out for AI on his own.. he had to be persuaded.
He’s finally taking the bull by the horns and running with it.
I couldn’t be more proud.
I don’t think his tweet about that performance was a call for attention, good or bad. It was just how he felt. We already know .. or have been “told” that David is very dedicated to giving the best he has to give.. each and every time. EARLY on.. going back to Shop Around.. he even acknowledged that “he didn’t know if that was his best” .. but that was before anyone knew what his BEST was. But HE knew. He sets his own standards.. is his bar too high? I don’t know.. it’s HIS bar.
After the performance on AI, in comparison to his solo tour shows, it became very clear to me that David is in his element with his fanbase. He thrives off the exchange of love… we love him.. he loves us.. he hugs his fans.. when hugging wasn’t part of who he was growing up. Now he’s a hugging machine. Once shy of cameras.. he is now Mr. Hottie hanging on the walls of millions of teenage girls all over the world.
Regardless of if he twitters or not, regardless of what he puts out there, he’ll always have his naysayers and his critics.. but on the other hand..he’ll always have US.. and we’ll have his back.. any time, any where, that he wants it.
Minutes off the stage of AI.. he’s vlogging.. letting us know he’s “Alive and Well”.. because that connection.. is very real.
You’ll be HARD pressed to find anyone.. as dedicated to their fanbase as David. And I absolutely ADORE that side of him.
I haven’t followed the Twitter saga much; my first thought is David is becoming known for his humbleness and he does things that are different from other artists. Sometimes things that appear to go wrong are actually right.
On another note or two or three, I am getting ready to take the train to Edinburgh (Mr Kizzi and I are in Glasgow) to see David’s 1st open for McFly at the Edinburgh Corn Exchange, standing only. Then tomorrow we have seats for the Clyde Auditorium show. I’ll keep you posted and if pictures/videos are allowed, I am hoping I can capture a few to post on youTube. *fingers crossed*
dawn65 118 -- nice.
Oh kizzi, you have us in a tizzy! You and Mr Kizzi are lucky ducks!
YEAH Mr. and Mrs. Kizzi.
Have a TON of fun.
Even if you can’t get any video/photo… please remember us sad folk back in the states.. and let us know what a fantabulous time you had !!!
My “other” life has been keeping me away from you lovely people but wanted to say thanks Kizzi #11 for drawing the comparison between David’s altruism and Albert Schweitzer’s:
“And by going out of our way to help any living creature in distress we are helping to discharge a debt -- a debt of honor -- which we owe to the rest of creation for its vicarious sacrifice to our needs. It is after all the only sane and reasonable course we can adopt.”
Beautiful and true.
*on edge of seat awaiting Kizzi/Mr. Kizzi updates* (If only they twittered!
Welcome to all of you who have discovered this remarkable young man.
You’ve come to a place that celebrates the artistry and inspiration of David Archuleta, a place that focuses not so much on the latest morsel of news or the most recent photograph, but on an exploration — through analysis, discussion, poetry, art, and even criticism – of just what it is that is so unique and compelling about this young singer. You’ll find articles, images, videos, resources, and a lively, diverse, and perhaps occasionally irreverent community of pretty serious David fans.
I guess I misunderstood, my bad.
After further analyzing David’s “tweet” (my new least favorite word) I’ve come to the conclusion that, by saying his performance was “excruciating” he’s actually saying that he thinks that he’s a great performer. I mean,on the surface, there really was nothing wrong with it. He didn’t forget any words, he sang it well, he didn’t trip over any equipment, the audience loved it, the critics loved it, people are downloading it. It’s all good.
The problem is that David “knows” how good he is, and was correct in thinking that his performance on AI was “not his best”. It wasn’t, but that’s because he’s David Archuleta, the best singer/performer in the biz, and he knows he is. If David doubted his ability, he would not expect to “hit one out of the park” every time. When David blew everyone away with “Shop Around’, he told Ryan Seacrest that he was surprised by the judges high praise because the performance was “not my best”, yet Simon had already told him that it was the best perfomance of the night by a “comfortable mile.”
David’s apologizing for his performance on American idol on Wednesday is like Tiger Woods apologizing for only winning 8 tournaments when no one else won even 2.
I think David may be overwhelmed by his own excellence, and has a problem thinking of himself in “superior” terms. It’s not easy being THAT good at what you do, but I have news for David. It’s going to get even harder, because even though he’s the best there is now, I estimate that he still has about 70% upside ahead of him. Wait ’till he starts singing “his” music.
gbw .. “I guess I misunderstood, my bad.”
I’m confused.. please help.
Bliss, Love your post! … he’s actually saying that he thinks that he’s a great performer … Yes! Wait ’till he says his performance is pleasant!
(Betsy, never mind, I saw the staring time for the VIP sale. *sets alarm*)
One hour, 10 minutes till VIP sale.
Am channeling Rainman.
YJ -- glad you found it!
I went past the venue yesterday while shopping. How can I wait four months?!
Last time I was there, I saw Dave Koz. We had great seats and he came over and stood up on the seat next to me and played amazingly. Only problem was, I had set down my concert paperwork (guide, etc.) on that seat. He stood on top of it and I was fearful for him slipping off. Luckily he didn’t!
Is anyone else having problems getting on the VIP site? When I type in the password, I go to a blank page.
Freofan -- I haven’t had a problem. It goes to David’s VIP page and info. And says coming soon.
Not soon enough.
{{{{{{Joner}}}}}} (112) AMEN. (And thank you for unknowingly saving this blog from my full blitherbomb on the subject. Divine intervention if ever I saw it. lol)
And dawn (118) you, too!
{{hug}}
And, David, if it pleases you to do so, tweet on, brutha.
Granfan (113), Oh how I LOVE that story!
Kizzi, Kizzi, Kizzi!! (119) So exciting! *gettin’ shakey*
goboywonder (123) … “…a place that focuses not so muchon the latest morsel of news…” (false advertising? lol) Feeding frenzies happen — even here. We’re ALL bozos on this bus.
{{hug}}
Bliss. Love your comment. David, it seems very clear to me, is a perfectionist. It’s part and parcel of that amazing musical soul. Hey, I can live with it.
NEW POST!

“Twitter’s here to stay, we need to get over it.”
I don’t think so. Just as VHS’s and CDs and vinyls are fast becoming obsolete, this too shall pass.
beebee #130, you hit on pretty much every single thing I wanted to say, so I should just say “DITTO!!!” LOL!

Aww, it means I am under the influence of ODD and it is in over drive, and that I am the biggest bozos of all, so I certainly don’t need to be trying to steer no bus.
beebee, thanks for that timely hug, I needed that.
I am so in agreement with this Joner “I don’t think I recall a more sincere young humanitarian than our David.”
He is like involved in What? Three charities now.
Invisible Children
MS Society
Rising Star Outreach.
Gotta love this guy.
I am always trying to contribute, ekk and don’t even have a job. Oh well at least I can help someone who is worse off than me.
