Ronaldsf, Just want to say, very belatedly, that this is a must read in Archuology 101, and more importantly, to wish you good luck on your upcoming bar exam (from one who had been through it). The legal profession is very lucky to have someone like you who speaks with such eloquence, intelligence, and compassion.

I'm not sure how to imbed a photo here and I don't know if it's already been mentioned/posted, but:

I saw a photo of David in the audience at the American Idol Finale.

You can go here a scroll down just a bit. http://www.rickey.org/?cat=191

It's at the top of the thread labeled: David Archuleta Sighting - American Idol Finale.

Followup on a comment from waaay back...

Bebereader #30, I really like that quote: "The problem with being that good of a performer is that everything he does feels like a performance. When Adam Lambert performs as a rock star, I don’t see a rock star. I don’t see a singer. I don’t see the next American Idol. I see an actor. I see someone pretending to be a rock star."

I have only tuned in on YouTube a few times this season, and I think Adam is a brilliant singer and performer, but yeah I also feel a little cold watching him compared to watching David. I'm not sure if this is the right word, but I feel that Adam's facial expressions are "affected," or pre-thought-through. Not my cuppa tea. Also, while I'm not anti-scream (like some of his detractors are), I am not PRO-scream. In the context of AI, his vocal pyrotechnics in one of those songs on finale night screamed of (pun intended) "Hey, look what I can do! Aaah! Aaah!"

Again, I like Adam, great guy... and he should have won AI. Best voice this season imo, and I'm going to buy whatever he puts out. But he's not a musician the way David is. (And yes, very few are...)

I hope Adam gets the benefit of a good songwriting and production team for his album. But with David, I usually hope that the production team gives David as much breathing room and time he needs, lets him do thing, and knows when to step out of the way.

Ronald -Loved,loved, loved your post. I keep reading it over and over. Also, congrats on your law school graduation - it is a huge accomplishment. Now that you are finished with school, I expect to see you on the site a lot more, (she says slightly pleading...LOL).

I just got the update of Dean's E-book. I really enjoyed the 1st section about his AI journey, when I read it about a year ago. This update didn't really bring anything new to the table - I felt that everything I read could be acquired from the usual lurking that I do anyway. However, the recordings were well worth the money. I never enjoyed David's voice as a youth as much as I do now, but these are exceptional. Does anyone know how to change the recordings into MP3's so I can download them on my I-pod?

Ronald - Congratulations! What an accomplishment.
Great post....a David bio... I love that last link to that interview. I've watched at least 5 times now.

Perhaps David does not view his rapid, astronomical, and continuous growth as a musician as “work.” Perhaps he is simply happy to bits that he can share what he learns with us. It seems that music is something that has brought him so much joy that nothing would make him happier than if we were able to hear what he hears, see what he sees. David, like a child who has just received the world’s coolest toy, knows it’s no fun to play alone.

He works so hard and we worry about his lack of sleep, is he eating right.... yet you've made an excellent observation. He's always happy and ready to share his joy with us and we're eager to take in all he gives us.

Bebe - The problem with being that good of a performer is that everything he does feels like a performance. When Adam Lambert performs as a rock star, I don’t see a rock star. I don’t see a singer. I don’t see the next American Idol. I see an actor. I see someone pretending to be a rock star.

This is a perfect description of my impression. I stopped watching AI this season. I watched Idol Wrap and saw the weekly high lights. And week after week I saw nothing in his eyes, they looked blank to me.

Maybe David has ruined me or better yet raised the bar to my expectations in a singer and performer. I now take notice in the eyes more than anything. David doesn't need to be singing to communicate... you just look into his eyes and you not only see but feel an indescribable connection.

So far IMO no one has what David has....

SB--I've been told, by a musically inclined person, that David was tenor but has moved into the baritone range. Yes, no, maybe so, is all I can say, because it is beyond me.

Ronaldsf--your words about our favorite man are beautiful--and very insightful, I might add. And, my heartiest congrats on your gradation!! Sorry I've been so long getting to you on it--life keeps moving and I'm not always keeping up. Good luck with your bar studies.

zoe & abrra--thanks for the links on the book--I'm now the proud e-owner of THE BOOK.

gotta go--getting ready for a Boy Scout merit badge pow-wow tomorrow morning and I still have lots to do.

one more thing--thanks for all the links--I'm going to try the megauploads (ummm--maybe a UK and Phillipines cd or dvd will happen?--hint, hint)
