Elvis and David
Music Revolutionaries of Their Changing Times

Without a Song, The Day would Never End: Elvis Aaron Presley
When World War II finally ended in 1945, Elvis Aaron Presley was 10 years old. This shy musical prodigy won a singing contest at the Mississippi-Alabama Fair. His prize? Five dollars and free tickets to the rides. Elvis was considered to be a well-mannered, quiet boy who was close to his mother. Music was his consuming passion before he was a teenager. His religious faith was also a defining and enduring influence.
Although many people were still living close to the last military base where they were posted during the war, many were looking forward to establishing new lives after the war ended. Soldiers and their families were poor; it was a time when 5 cents bought a bag of chips, 10 cents a bottle of soda pop.
People dealing with the losses of family and friends often turned to music for healing. There was an air of excitement as people rebuilt their lives by sharing work, music, and fun together. Church healed the wounds of losses and gave us strength. I still clearly recall the sounds of the pipe organ and choir.
My brother and I, who were young at the time, experienced both the transition into post-war life and the evolution of new music. I looked forward to Saturday nights when my parents, dressed to the nines, would attend the married couple’s club and dance to the music of Jimmy Dorsey and his band.
We encountered Elvis Presley’s music as teenagers. From that time on, music would never be the same as Elvis ushered in a whole new era of American music and popular culture.
“….it was like he came along and whispered some dream in everybody’s ear and somehow we all dreamed it.”
Bruce Springsteen
“Before Elvis there was nothing.”
John Lennon
The one element that truly defines a musical prodigy is the ability to create a performance so dynamic that it captivates and at times even overwhelms the audience. Elvis captivated audiences. The stage was his world and he adored his audience. Elvis did not express himself the way other singers did. Instinctually, Elvis expressed his passionate spirit by how he held the microphone and moved his hips. He could say more in a single performance than one could say in an entire book. His instincts were his essence as a performer and that was his genius.
“He was ahead of his time because he had such deep feelings. He had the privilege of deep feelings because he was loved by his mother. He was able to appreciate profound beauty in sounds. They say all revolutions start from love.”
Imelda Marcos
Enter David James Archuleta
….stage right!
Even though we live in a new time, David Archuleta’s entrance into pop music comes at a time similar to the time Elvis made his entrance. We live marked by social and political changes because of the Iraq War and September 11.
David was twelve years old when he won the junior Star Search competition. David has been called “The Voice” because he has a vocal range of three octaves (for Elvis actually 21/2 octaves). The clarity in David’s voice enraptures your heart and soothes your soul. Like Elvis, David is close to his mother and religion plays an important role in his life. His faith leads him to support charities, showing compassion wherever needed. Elvis was also on a mission and tried to improve the lives of the unfortunate. After singing “Imagine” on American Idol last year, David gained many new fans who are following him on his musical journey.
More recently, other musicians are expressing respect for David as a person and artist.
Choose for yourselves which artist I am speaking about:
“…a style and panache that has come close to pure magic, the sweat trickling down his face, he moves with the precision of an athlete, the grace of a dancer… he works with the instincts of a genius to give poetry to the basic performance …he has a tremendous effect on an audience…”
“He gets even more mature as he gets older. His range is amazing. He can sing anything. He has the ability to make everyone in the audience think that he is singing directly to them. He has a way with communication that is totally unique.”

These words were spoken about Elvis many years ago, but clearly they describe David as we know him, even in the early years of his singing career.
“I learnt very early in life that ‘without a song, the day would never end; without a song, a man ain’t got a friend; without a song , the road would never bend – without a song.’ So I keep singing a song.”
-From Elvis’ acceptance speech for the 1970 Ten Outstanding Young Men of the Nation Award on January 16, 1971. Elvis quoted from the song, “Without a Song.”

Freofan -- love your post. So many times when I watch David he reminds me of Elvis. Elvis expressed his passionate spirit and so does David, so true!! The picture of Elvis I love and when David reaches into the audience during “Touch My Hand” it always reminded me of Elvis somehow.
Sandybeaches -- I’ve always loved that quote from Elvis.
Just love this post and could quote everything in it.
djafan -- just noticed your tribute video from the previous post. Great pictures -- you really captured David’s innocence, purity, gentleness and kindness in them. He certainly does have a beautiful face. Thanks. Great for being your first one.
pabuckie, thanks! SandyBeaches actually wrote it.
Her name’s in very small letters at the bottom. I have always enjoyed Elvis’ music; so sad what happened to him.
Oops thanks Freofan (could have sworn I saw your name somewhere on it?).
Sandybeaches -- LOVE your post! Read above.
Freofan -- just to let you know I checked and right above the article it says “By Freofan”. Does that mean you did the picture? If so, great pic.
haha--my name is on it. I am not sure how to remove it.
I did the picture, though (but Sandybeaches found the pics), and Liz also helped me on it.
SB -- What a comparison! Such interesting similarities. You are a talented writer and the pictures are gorgeous and convey the overtones of your article perfectly! Thanks
And, I had this vivid image of 50 years from now playing in the back of my head as I was reading your article… one of my grandchildren writing a piece about an emerging new artist and making the same comparisons as you did to Mr. Presley to Mr. Archuleta…
I remember the first time I heard Elvis. It was a Spring evening in 1956. The DJ (broadcasting from NYC) played “Heartbreak Hotel” over and over. The next day on the school bus, all us teens -- excited by this new sound -- kept repeating: “Did you hear that song? Did YOU HEARRRRRRRRRRRR that song!!!”
With our ears glued to the radio, we were drawn to a voice so different, powerful, emotive and lovely; we didn’t want the music to end.
All these characteristics I now savor and truly love in David’s voice. Did I hear that song “Heaven?” Oh, yes, I heard it, I saw it on the TV screen and… surprisingly, I felt it! I know what happened a scant year and five months ago. Thank you Elvis Presley for blazing the trail.
There is no going back to a time in my life -- without David’s remarkably stunning voice. I wish him a very long, happy and sucessful musical career.
SandyBeaches, love your article. It seems that the right person tends to come on the scene at the perfect time. It was true with Elvis. There had never been anyone like Elvis, with his dynamic voice, sexy ways, and stage charisma. Before Elvis, singers stood at the microphone and crooned their song. The TV censors made Ed Sullivan cut off Elvis’ image from the waste down, claiming it was “obscene” (love those 1950s LOL). By today’s standards Elvis was almost choirboy-like on stage. Even our David outdoes Elvis on stage in charisma and , yes, sexiness.
(Duluth, Duluth, Duluth).
Seriously, the comparisons between Elvis and David are very valid. Both can sing “anything”, and sing it better than anyone else. When Paul Anka wrote “My Way” he wrote it exclusively for Frank Sinatra. One rendition of the song by Elvis made it “His” song forever. The same is true for David. “imagine” might just be the best song ever written, and it was written and made famous by the artist who is second only to Elvis in scope and fame. Yet, one abbreviated performance of it by an unknown contestant on a talent show made it a David Archuleta song forever. But, David didn’t stop there. It was like shooting fish in a barrel week after week as David took possession of one classic song after another by the biggest names in music of the past 50 years.
Elvis was a revolutionary figure, and, as must be the case, had many detractors. The fact that David also has his detractors is all the proof you need to know that he too is a revolutionary figure. The world has changed so dramatically since 1956 that David’s qualities of kindness, civility, warmth and sincerity are now all revolutionary qualities. It’ll take a while for David’s revolution to take hold because social change takes time, but I see it happening already, and with David at the helm, we are headed in the right direction.
bliss…When I was reading the information about Elvis, I decided to write about Elvis in a way that it could almost be mistaken for David. I found it intriguing and wanted to stay away from any other information at the time. As Abrra has said, “there are many books written about Elvis”, and you could write about him forever.
Thank you for writing what you did and I know that there could be a sequel to this. Your reply is a nice addition to the article. I didn’t glorify either of them because one could do that for a month of Sundays…(what the heck does that mean,oh well).
SB
Freofan…I thought that both our worlds had collided at the same time with the same pictures…thanks for the editing.
SB--LOVE!! your post! Elvis has been one of my favorites for a few years (I didn’t really “get” him until I was older). And since David has come into my life, I have, for several monthes, made the Elvis/David comparisons. Thanks for validating my thoughts.
BTW--David is behind in the Teen Choice Awards voting--we all need to vote, just change the year of your birth. The link is at FOD
kizzi…you are too kind, I appreciate your comments and I had a little help from artistic friends.
SB..Enjoyed YOUR article! Before David, I was an “unconditional” fan of Elvis. Even though it was reported that he said he would never “date” a Hispanic woman, really! And it broke my heart, cuz I wanted to marry him.
Saw him in concert a few times, once when he was just starting out & I was just a a very young girl. Then when he did his world tour..he was awesome. Just Elvis, the band, some backup singers and his mic. My sis & I got to go to an after party…very special memory. Elvis was indeed a very beautiful man up close…like David. Then, in Vegas twice. Again, no pyro-technics, no dancers, just Elvis, a larger band (orchestra), backup singers, and a mic. He did wear those outrageous costumes, but he really didn’t need them. He would have had the same impact wearing a suit, or just a plain shirt/pants.
Same with David..no dancers, no costumes, no pyro-technics, and not even any backup singers, just David, the band, keyboard & that very LUCKY mic/mic stand!
I am a bit more realistic than some of my esteemed co-posters here though. David still has a long ways to go before he reaches reaches Elvis-like superstardom. He is still not as well known as he should be in certain parts of our country. He is still not played as he should be in many areas of our country. Blame his mgmt/label for that. Hopefully the summer tour will expand his popularity among the age group the tour is geared to. (no tomatoes please..I get heartburn).
He will get there..I am so impatient for him to have that song that will catapult him to the stratosphere and beyond. Crush was not the “ONE”..maybe ZG..not IMO. Maybe the next album will have that “ONE” song that will do it.
anyway..SB..great post!
gotta get back to work now.
Sorry about my stu-stu-stuttering on my previous comment. I blame my computer!
see ya later! bye.
Sandybeaches, your post includes quite a few facts I didn’t know about Elvis – nice job! He’s a little before my time. The Elvis I know is the icon, as opposed to the artist. As a child, I thought of him more as a dancer/actor than a singer because I saw him in movies but I didn’t hear him on the radio.
desertrat…take a moment for this one. Being a young teenager, this song was played a lot. A wonderful richness to his fantastic voice. Another gorgeous smile…
Silverfox, I agree with you that David has not yet approached the mega stardom that Elvis achieved almost immediately when he hit the scene. Elvis literally changed pop culture overnight, although it was not his intent to do so. Same with the Beatles. They were just a pop band who, because of the times they were in, connected with the young generation that was looking for something other than what they had. It didn’t hurt that their music was utterly fantastic and exponentially better than most of the competition (with apologies to Bobby Vee, Bobby Vinton and Little Peggy March, et al.)
David is not the SAME as Elvis, but it is not a stretch to compare them, even at this early date in David’s career. I will say this, however. David is, right now, as good a singer as Elvis, and is already in the discussion of who is the best male singer of all time. It will not take, long, in my opinion, for that discussion to become moot. In the ’50s every young guy wanted to be like Elvis. Young guys today don’t yet realize how much they really want to be like David, and it is to their advantage to be so. Stay tuned.
Frist -- hooray that I found my password! I’ve been trying to log in since rascal’s post, then liz’s, now this. Awesome. Thanks guys.
Second -- Are you Lonesome Tonight? was taught to me by my girlfriend in high school who was a huge Elvis fan. I knew every word at 16 even though I could have cared less about Elvis at the time. It’s on my ipod right now.
Third -- IMO David owns “Love Me Tender” like he owns “Imagine”
I’m with Silverfox however -- David may never become the superstar hit maker we all want him to become. It would be amazing if the ‘social change’ bliss talks about happens because of David, but if it doesn’t, I will have to be content with whatever level of success he does achieve.
Thanks for letting me de-lurk.
SB #18 -- How about this one for David (from the same show)?
There must be lights burning brighter somewhere
Got to be birds flying higher in a sky more blue
If I can dream of a better land
Where all my brothers walk hand in hand
Tell me why, oh why, oh why cant my dream come true
There must be peace and understanding sometime
Strong winds of promise that will blow away
All the doubt and fear
If I can dream of a warmer sun
Where hope keeps shining on everyone
Tell me why, oh why, oh why wont that sun appear
Were lost in a cloud
With too much rain
Were trapped in a world
Thats troubled with pain
But as long as a man
Has the strength to dream
He can redeem his soul and fly
Deep in my heart theres a trembling question
Still I am sure that the answer gonna come somehow
Out there in the dark, theres a beckoning candle
And while I can think, while I can talk
While I can stand, while I can walk
While I can dream, please let my dream
Come true, right now
Let it come true right now
Oh yeah
bluebarsa…I personally think that David would appreciate the lyrics to this song and he would have his own renditionas always. It would be great…
Came in before I head for home and I find momJulee! Awesome!
Bliss..Yes we all want David to reach as high as he wants to go, but you know what I think? No? OK, I know you don’t wanna know. That’s ok, cuz I’m gonna tell ya anyway.
I think David is not too terribly concerned with reaching mega superstardom the likes of Elvis or the Beatles. In fact, given the choice of having a career like Elvis/Beatles or Bareilles, and Mraz, I do buh-leeve he would choose the latter. He wants to make great music. He wants write great music. Like all musical geniuses, I think eventually he wants to have complete creative control over his music. In order to do that, he must bring in lots of $ for Jive and of course himself. That’s what it’s all about now. We say David is not concerned about money, but of course he is, not for material possessions, you understand, but the more he brings in, the closer he gets to his ultimate goal..control of his musical creativity. I also think he would like to someday pursue acting, but if that never happens, as long as he can make music and sing live, even in small intimate venues, he will be a very happy man..and so will I. Of course, if he happens to find that one song that does catapult him “overnight” as they say, to Superstardom, that’s ok too. He will be able to handle it so much better than Elvis did. Yes, there are many similarities between the two but also striking differences. The truth of the matter, as much as I loved Elvis, (even though he would never would have considered marrying me, boo-hoo), David is what I call an Elevated Human Being, not perfect exactly, but I think unable to ever be caught up in a dark place like Elvis eventually succumbed to. May he RIP.
OK, done..need to get myself home. 72 hrs and counting before I see my Idol on stage once again **sigh**
A very well written and thought-provoking post, Sandy Beaches. It definitely got me reflecting on my own thoughts on this David-Elvis comparison on Soul David.
I’m in agreement with SF here in thinking that David is not trying to go for megastar success. Does he have the potential to be a superstar? Of course he does. Is that possible in today’s music arena? I have to give this more thought.
I’m of the opinion, now that I’m observing the current music scene, that they really may not be up to the task of creating another Elvis or Beatles or Michael Jackson or what have you.
First, they need to discover some subculture/underground culture of new music that’s happening. Then give David the music to make it happen on a mass scale.
I don’t see music scouts trying all that hard to find, let alone promote, new music.
As of now, we can content ourselves that we’ve discovered and can enjoy the sound of a New Voice that is David Archuleta.
SB,
Wonderful post and the comparison has been in the air for some time now. I really think David could be the heir apparent to the “King.” I have never been much of an Elvis fan, maybe it was a little before my time, but the one song I loved of his was “Are You Lonesome Tonight?” I think the cheesy movies turned me off. But hey, that type of packaging worked for a whole lot of people so who am I to question the wisdom in it? He did one dramatic movie early in his career that showed he had real acting ability. I think he might have done some good work in that area if he had had the right management. Intellectually I get Elvis as a great talent and singer, but there was no connection. Never has been for me until David.
momJulee…This is for you (well, everyone else too).
A little James Dean added to the icon mix…
HG did a nice piece on her site -- sort of a counter article regarding Elvis, and an interesting look into the hijacking of soul music. Check it out http://souldavid.wordpress.com/
You can also click on HG’s name on her comments and it will take you there directly.
Thanks, Marlie!
You are welcome HG -- I tend to think of Soul David as a sort of “sista” site
marlie…HG’s counter article regarding Elvis is interesting. When she says that this one is provocative, I am wondering if that means that it is an article serving to provoke, or whether it is irritating, stimulating, or vexing? I am just kidding for whatever it means actually, but I do love to debate.
I saw in the comparisons between the two, some simple common features that aid a musician in becoming all that he wants to be. I see the simple comparisons as the backbone to their successes, (with their love for their mothers as one). The historical changes in the whole world since Elvis, make all of the differences today in our attitudes and perceptions.
SB
I love this thread… I love Elvis, my kids love Elvis. My conservative 15 year old son has an Elvis poster in his room. He listens to alternative rock but alas, he also has Suspicious Minds on his I-Pod. Elvis could sing live and change up a song like NO ONE’S BUSINESS. Same for David!! They both feed on the energy and love from the audience. So, with that, my favorite (although hard to pick) Elvis song.
#28/ excellent article hellogorgeous on your souldavid site… bravo, bravo, bravo!! the perfect companion piece to this elvis and david column…
Rae..one of my fav Elvis songs as well. Don’t hurt that ah’ve
lived heah in KY fo mo than half mah laf!
I was thinking how different Elvis’ life may have been had his mom not passed so young. I think she was only in her early forties. Also, Elvis was surrounded by “friends” who where more interested in being in his orbit, and so would never think of going against Elvis or saying no to him when it came doing things for him that were not in his best interest. They were all YES men. Elvis desperately needed rescuing. Too bad his “friends” had other agendas or were too afraid they would be tossed of Elvis’ orbit. Too bad. Maybe Elvis himself could still be with us had someone been brave enough to have told him how he was slowly killing himself, as we all found out after he passed. He was living kind of a double life.
HG..Not surprised Elvis may have said what was reported, just like he supposedly said he would never date a Hispanic. It was the sign of the times and he was from the south after all.
David is as far removed from Elvis’ lifestyle as I am from the Queen of England..haha!
SB: I love your article. Provocative to me means inspiring deep thought. For some of us, it bring back memories and serves to give us another view into our continuous analysis of all things David. For others, Elvis might be a little early for them to have had any experience of him other than as an historical figure in the music business.
Either way, one of the hallmarks of this site (for good or for bad, you be the judge) is the willingness to delve into controversy. I happen to appreciate the different perspectives, and I think most here do as well, including HG. I suspect you “inspired” her to write that article, which is also quite provocative
The biggest challenge David faces is finding good songs to record. He has a great voice, and he has proven he can take mediocre songs and make them work. I hope he gets the opportunity to take some good songs and make them great.
Sandybeaches- “black leather Elvis,” as that performance is referred to around my house, is … more than this woman can bare. Bluebarsa, “If I Could Dream” was going to be one of my Songs in the Key of David posts…I’ll put it up and credit you instead if you don’t mind….
thanks SB….enjoying the Elvis/David comparison and running over to SoulDavid to check out HG’s blog…
“When she says that this one is provocative, I am wondering if that means that it is an article serving to provoke, or whether it is irritating, stimulating, or vexing? I am just kidding for whatever it means actually, but I do love to debate.”
SB, I found your article one that provoked, as in: it provoked me so much so that I wrote a counter point to it, to really explore what my whole ambivalence was all about.
Abrra, thanks for that article concerning the shoe-shining quote. This may indeed have catapulted to urban legend status (just like that whole Tommy Hilfigger urban legend about his not intending his fashions to be worn by black people). SF, I never heard that Elvis would never date Hispanics. Hmmmm. So, isn’t it interesting that among communities of color there were rumors that Elvis was intolerant? But yeah, my mom was really disappointed because she did like his music… until she heard that shoe-shining quote. Outside of that, of course, is still the whole soul-music-hijacking (loving your description here, Marlie) that didn’t sit too well with many African Americans. Little Richie is still bitchin’ about it.
Hey GGdoors!
Thanks for your comment on my blog!
SB, great post! Beyond his hits, I don’t know much about Elvis so it was fascinating to read your comparison.
Elvis and David certainly share a similar radiance … in almost every photo, they both look like they’ve been photoshopped in, lol, they stand out so distinctly from everyone else. If Elvis is The King, maybe David can be The Crown Prince.
bj, so true about having the right song, when that earthquaking combination happens (as with Imagine), time stands still.
momJulee, glad you got through! *waves*
SB, running out for a while but will check back in to read again!
It was fun here today. Thanks SB, HG, Bliss, momJulee, & GG! Took my mind off other things..
Good night all, and for David,
Dear Lord,
Please take care of David. Watch over him, protect him from all harm. Cloak him with your love and give him the strength to endure all that is thrown in his path. Give David the courage and guidance to say no to those who ask for more than he can reasonably give. Surround David with loving and supportive people who love him UNCONDITIONALLY as we, his Archangels do. Separate David from those who have agendas other than for his well being. Give him rest when he’s weary. Give him the stamina to sustain his hectic pace. Give him assurance when he feels doubt. Give him joy when he feels sad. Cloak him always in your protective arms during this time on his journey. Keep David and and his voice healthy & strong as he fulfills his Destiny which was written in his Book of Life before he was born. And please Lord, give us, David’s forever fans, the wisdom to know when and how to do right by David. Open our eyes and help us in the way we support David so that it’s always in his best interests. May his positive and good Karma continue to attract those with positive and good Karma! May he continue to encounter goodwill and happiness! May he continue to be healthy and strong wherever his journey leads him. Though we may be unworthy, we humbly pray. Amen
David, hope you have a good night’s sleep & sweet dreams. Keep with you all our love, prayers and warm thoughts! We will always love you madly! REMEMBER, if you are ever in need of help, tweet us an SOS and your Archangels will be there in a flash!
Contigo siempre con amor!
TOfan…I like the idea of David Crown Prince.
SF…I thoroughly enjoyed the encounters that you had with Elvis, they are great memories. Thanks for sharing them with us..
HG…Your site is attractive and it is interesting to read and learn about the different aspects of Elvis’s life from different people. We know that there are several books written about him and that shows us how complicated his life was.
BLess you guys! Thanks for making me feel welcome!
OMG -
Guys I just heard the most disturbing and distressing news about Jeff on TV. He was arrested for alledged inappropriate behavior. Please keep David and the family in our thoughts and prayers.
What?! Where did you hear this?
This is disturbing…
Silverfox, #23, you say “Bliss, we all want David to reach as high as he wants to go, but you know what I think? No? OK, I know you don’t wanna know. That’s OK cuz i’m gonna tell you anyway.”
Why do you feel that I don’t want to know what you think? You obviously love David and want the very best for him and his career. So do I. I am a poster on this site because I do care what others think about David. I may not agree with everyone ‘s priorities when it comes to David, but I would never want anyone to censor their thoughts and feelings about anything I post here. We’re all grown ups ( I may be flattering myself) and, for me, there is nothing off limits for me on this site. David has an army of avid, and, in some cases, rabid, fans, and i feel allied with every one of them regardless of age, gender, or which performance of Zero Gravity is their favorite.
Check out Fox13Utah…their website has the whole story, video and all…
Oh man, there’s already a discussion unfolding on MJ’s Blog. I’m afraid to go to TMZ. Sigh.
Maybe this is a good time for David to cut Jeff out of his management? Still keeping his family in my prayers though.
Coming out of lurking to say that this is incredibly upsetting. It’s like something is happening to my own family. My heart goes out to David and Lupe and the children. Is there any way on earth that this could be a false story? Please?
Sandy Beaches,
My apologies for the intrusion into the Elvis/David discussion. I felt a bit tramutized and just needed to draw support around David at this time with others who love him deeply.
I just don’t understand! The arrest happened in January, and we’re just now hearing about it (I guess because the case is going to court at the end of June)? More than that, innocent or not, why did Jeff not step down and keep a very low profile if he was going to be dealing with this? We’ve seen him very involved with David’s career all this year, even traveling to the UK and everything, was with David on his solo tour -- all this while he had this mess on his hands?!
*Takes deep breath.*
This is going to have repercussions on David, and I’m really upset about that.
standing beside the crown prince all the way… david has done nothing to warrant any of this, and he will need our unwavering and unconditional support more than ever in the coming days.
hi all,
just me…a friendly reminder to refrain from discussing David’s personal life on TDC.
Oh, ggdoors, I’m so standing by my bb all the way on this one!
Happy, this is NOT about David’s personal life. This is NOW in the news, and this WILL have an impact on his public persona.
My tv news station said he pleaded no contest and paid a fine and maybe that is why the news is just breaking now. They also commented on how he was the dad that micromanaged David on Idol. Just horrible. My heart is breaking for David and the rest of his family.
bliss#46..I was teasing you! Wasn’t trying to be a smart A$$, which I tend to be anyway. Shake hands & make up??
Posting this again tonight for good measure and cuz I need to…

I wish the Archuleta family all the stamina they can muster for what’s ahead.
My love for David and his music will always be here.
Thank you, SF, and AMEN!
Well, folks, we’ve always believed David is the strong, mature, capable young man we’ve known him to be and not some fragile, naive kid. The next few days we will witness David demonstrating to us how you deal with real challenges.
I have faith David will deliver.
G’nite all!
Happy,
We are a close-knit family. Whatever affects David affects us all. We are not passing judgement but merely expressing concern at a story that is now nationwide news. I cringe at the timing of the story just as his tour is about to commence but sensationalism sells. A pity that David cannot receive even a quarter of this media coverage for his music. I hurt for him and the family but have faith in his inner strength and the support of his fans.
Thanks SF for this nightly necessity!
We love you David -- more than you’ll ever know!
Yes, sad situation. This is probably the tip of the iceberg, sadly.
This was in January. I think the family took care of this at the time. The fact it is out 3 or 4 days before the new tour with a Disney name,,,,,, don’t know…
SF, of course. Sometimes it’s hard to get a true read on people in cyberspace, and misunderstandings can easily occur. We both love David and care deeply for him. That makes you “family.”
Freo, if there is a huge mountain glacier underneath, I’m going to pray it doesn’t impact on David’s career.
I hear ya, HG. Hear ya.
HG/ joymus- I never said that we couldn’t or shouldn’t discuss the public aspects of this plea of no contest on TDC…. I do offer a preemptive reminder that the discussion should remain about public information and not deteriorate into a speculative gossip column.
joymus…We are all here and if there is ever anything we need to do for anyone we need this place of contact and a place to be supportive. I appreciate your thoughts and I am so sorry that this has happened. Not wanting to gossip or talk about it but to just be here.
Happy, good points. The next few days should be quite interesting. Unfortunately, the press is going to keep digging.
I don’t believe it’s the tip of an iceberg. I don’t think we need to jump to such assumptions about David’s father with no proof. I prefer to give him the benefit of the doubt. There is no one in this world who has not made a mistake or done something they don’t regret. Maybe he’s a man with clay feet, the kind that doesn’t walk on water. God bless him and his family.
One last comment…we are not just fair weather friends…
There’s a lot you don’t know, Angelica. It’s a sad situation.
Happy,
I will speak for myself and say that I have neither violated nor gone beyond the parameters of this site. I remarked upon a topic which is prominently displayed in the news feed bar and expressed a friendly concern for David. That is all. Have I personally discussed anything else beyond what I stated?
Sandy Beaches -- Thank You! That was all I was attempting to do as well.
joymus- no one has gone beyond anything here and I was not implying that you or anyone had…in fact I was implying nothing at all…I was stating the obvious for the benefit of all of the lurkers who might decide to become commenters.
Just thought I’d let you all know. The comments at MJ’s is overwhelmingly in support of David.
David is not his father’s keeper. The sins of the father in this case should not be visited on the son. David in no way deserves to have this thrust on him, however, knowing David’s compassionate nature towards virtual strangers, it will or should be no surprise or shock if David stands by his father at this time. David had to have known about this prior to today, yet his father is with him in CT and was with him in Manila & the UK. This is not something Jeff could or should have kept secret from David.
What does hurt me, is knowing David has been living with this knowledge for how long now, and it must have weighed heavily on him at times. He seemed sad to me (sad eyes) and to some other posters here who love him, especially at the interview at Rio Tinto. David will know we are there for him no matter what. As I said, David is not his father’s keeper. David is going on as normal, ie..twittering with fans & friends and reminding everyone about his upcoming tour. So is Daniel. This family is no stranger to controversy or adversity. David will get through this and come out stronger than ever because he is David Archuleta.
I love that David is David. I don’t have a link, I just want to say I Love him as a person and his best cuss is ‘oh my heck’
Happy,
When I see my name included in a gentle form of chastisement, reminder or not, I feel the need to set the record straight. I am not a casual lurker here and feel disappointed that any statement of support made by me was misconstrued as gossip or speculation.
joymus- maybe you should go get a massage and relax…
I believe David needs support more than ever, I just don’t know how to give it. He is eighteen, he is giving 2 concerts this week that are coast to coast weariness, he is going on a prolonged disney tour, he has 2 new band members, he loves his mom, he’s trying to write songs, he is working on 2 albums simultaneously … and did I mention that HE IS EIGHTEEN. Can he keep smiling? Would we have been able to at eighteen? I am very worried about him.
Just wanted to say..
I believe David will weather this freaky storm with courage and grace and come out stronger and more mature.
Now, what was Jeff thinking while he proudly twittered about David’s projects, produced the Christmas album and followed David everywhere? That this story would disappear by a miracle?
How disappointing!
I’m sure the Idol online community knows David and respects him but the media in general will be merciless unfortunately.
As David says ‘things happen for a reason’. Ironically, this might help him ‘fit’ now and be accepted.
Relax? It’s too late for that to happen.
I believe David will receive an avalanche of support from fans and friends, including those in the business. He will handle this with grace and dignity because it is who he is.
I think the majority of detractors will be the same ones that always have been, but I hate to think of the media and paparazzi that will be dogging him. He does not deserve it. But as has been stated here, “he has a spine of steel.” He will get through this.
We have your back David. And you have our love.
This will be tough on David as he has stated he has a deep belief in family. But he is strong, as you say, and he has always shown class and maturity when it counts. Unfortunately, that’s not something that can be said for Jeff in this case.
Not offline yet! But I definitely need to get some sleep. I do want to say this though, and maybe I will receive the ire of certain uber fans who are overly invested in David’s Team.
I hope we are all willing to stand up for and in support of David, whatever comes his way in the wake of this breaking story.
However, I do hope that there is no expectation that all of us who are David’s fans are expected to support Jeff in any this. I have never been a Jeff fan, nor did I ever think I needed to be in order to support David.
I don’t need to speculate about him or voice my opinion about his guilt or innocence in any of this, but if anything is further revealed in the news, I’m just letting everyone know where my loyalties lie, and it is fully with David.
I agree, Valbraz: things do “happen for a reason,” and this just might be the opportunity David needs to seek new management.
On that note, G’nite again!
BEST TOUCH
”I don’t need to speculate about him or voice my opinion about his guilt or innocence in any of this, but if anything is further revealed in the news, I’m just letting everyone know where my loyalties lie, and it is fully with David.”
agree 100 percent.
LONN DAVID ARCHULETA
from emmiegirl: “We have your back David. And you have our love”
This has finally made the tears flow. Yes, David is an incredibly strong soul, but just in case he needs any back up, we will be there.
With you on that HG!
prd9601: I didn’t realize you posted that video twice -- is it okay if I delete the second one?
This makes me so sad. I will pray for David that this doesn’t change his outlook on life. That it will have no ramifications for him other than the realization that even parents are human and as such have frailties. He has shown his courage and strength during adverse times, I don’t expect this time to be any different.
Hang in there sweetie, you have a legion of people praying for you.
David will be magnificent, of that I am sure. I think he has been preparing for this for a long time.
momJulee: Well said. He always shows such class.
thank u marlie7.
Praying for strength & grace for the whole Archuleta family. This won’t be easy.
Media is hungry for any dirt to throw at David, warranted or not. Jeff’s actions should not even be foisted at David. An individual’s action should not be onpassed to the unit, group, country, race, gender or even blogmates that that person is associated with.
Why only now? I suppose it has something to do with Jeff entering a six month plea in abeyance.
David will come out stronger from this.
In case anyone is interested:
Plea in Abeyance Law & Legal Definition
A plea in abeyance is an agreement that allows the court to dismiss your violation upon completion of certain criteria. This agreement can only be done at the recommendation of the prosecutor. When you enter into a plea in abeyance agreement, you will have to sign a document that states you are giving up your constitutional rights to a trial and are entering a guilty or no contest plea. This plea is held for a specific amount of time (referred to as a period of probation), and if you have complied with the conditions, the case will be dismissed after your probation has ended. Local laws should be consulted, as they vary by jurisdictional area.

momJulee #93 thank you for your very encouraging words. They are very comforting.
And everything happens for a reason, and I’m going to leave it at that. And of course, David and his family will be in my thoughts and prayers.
One more thing, thank goodness for David having a great family friend like Brett Hales.
Well said, Julee!
HG, well said. It’s time that Jeff is dropped from David’s management.
Oh my heck! I’m in! Thanks marlie, for your help with the password!
So glad to be back, but gotta run now!
Disturbing to wake up to this news. Hope David knows we all have his back! David will remain strong throughout this. Thank God his outlet is music! Hope Jeff keeps a very low profile now.
I heard the news last night from my friend, who is a Cook fan but supports both Davids. I am still in shock, like everyone else, but earnestly praying for David. Who knows what David has already been through, and now I understand his writing of several beautiful songs, and I’m sure there will be more.
As others here have already said, I stand 100% behind this beautiful young man that we have all come to know, love and respect so deeply. So sad for this whole family during the coming days. David will need his fan base now, more than ever. Thank God he has such a loyal, loving fan base and many, many close friends who, I am sure, will be contacting and supporting him directly.
David, if you ever read this, I love and support you with all my heart, as I would my own son, if I had one. And how I wish I had a son like you!
Well, I guess if there was any doubt of David being considered “newsworthy” in the entertainment industry we now have our answer.
Obviously it’s a very emotional day for all of the fans for a variety of different reasons.
The most important thing that we can all do right now, is keep David in our thoughts and pray that he can stay strong during the inevitable media onslaught he is about to face.
It really helps to listen to that soothing voice:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8qtAQIZNAEI
In all the upset, let’s not forget that we have a fabulous article here by SandyBeaches. Even as we process our thoughts and feelings here any comments relating to this article would also be welcome.
Dear LIZ…it is quite understandable where everyone’s thoughts are. SF,HG and bliss added most interesting information, some in story like form to the article. My daughter and her husband have a yacht they call their ‘boat’, Both of them are in emergency medicine.
The name of the boat is.. ‘Remain Calm’…I think of that on occassions when it is needed…strong, helpful words.
Good morning everyone. Just a quick update: it looks like Jeff has taken down his twitter, while Daniel has denied the story on his. From what it sounds, it seems he is not aware of the specific details of the case and assumes this is yet another rumor a la stage dad. Sigh.
I’m afraid David did not know of Jeff’s arrest and may actually be finding out about it for the first time on twitter -- that is, if any fans have tweeted him about it. I hope they haven’t.
We shall see how things unfold. What a lousy buildup to Father’s Day weekend.
HG -- Sadly, people have been twittering to David about it all night.
It breaks my heart.
SB -- love the Elvis-David comparison in some respects. Great article. Well written.
he works with the instincts of a genius to give poetry to the basic performance …he has a tremendous effect on an audience…
Yep, sounds like David.
HG,
The word “lousy” is a perfect word for this situation. I feel “lousy”, like I got a kick in the stomach.
If any of David’s people read this blog, I want David to know, I will “have his back” forever.
I’m such a sap…the tears are flowing for this talented young man and his family. GAH…this SUCKS!
Sigh. Oh well. And now Perez Hilton is carrying the story…
Anyway, off to work. Until next time!
The media is going to have a field day with this -- ugh! It makes me sad for David. He doesn’t deserve to have to go through this. But he is a tough cookie and I think he will handle it well. In the meantime, I just want to hug him LOL. Sheesh, such a mom.
Hi all -- Daniel’s twitter is locked for me (I’m not following him) why what did he say that would lead someone to think he didn’t know? I hope that David knew something before now.
Marlie -- This makes me so sad too. David deserves everything good. He’s given us so much. And now Rolling Stone has picked up the story. He should be in that magazine for one reason alone. His music. Nothing else.
{{{{HUGS}}} to David.
funnygirl -- here it is from Daniel:
it’s bullcrap for sure hah don’t worry media just hates my dad and they always try to get crap on him -- he.
… wouldn’t have been on tour if he got arrested for that crap hah and he wouldn’t have been home all the time media=retarded
I don’t think Dad sat down and explained anything to them.
I love the comparison of David to Elvis. As a teenager I was a huge Elvis fan and was lucky to have seen him perform in his early years at Olympia stadium in Detroit. He was wonderful. I loved his music and owned it all. As a fan of David’s it is much different as I have a more mature respect for his music. When he sang Love Me Tender, I wept. Very different from Elvis’ but so very beautiful. It brings me to tears each time I hear it. The passion one feels with his singing was somewhat the same as with Elvis. Especially some of the Christmas songs. He may not be as big as Elvis yet but he will be.
David will be strong I am guessing and fans will be better then ever…on to Del Mar.
renaid…there can not be any two singers who have anymore passion for music and for the stage and the audience. This is where they are two of a kind.
I suspect that David has no illusions about his father. I think that MomJulee said it well: he has likely been preparing for this for a long time.
Hi everyone,
Last night I was sad. Today however,I am mad as hell at Jeff for inciting this type of media coverage with David’s name as the headliner. I feel lousy because David is working so hard to build a career and stuff like this is like chewing gum at the bottom of a shoe. I’ll feel better in a bit but not right now.
BTW can anyone plese tell me how to leave a direct message for David on twitter? It is highly improbable that it will be read but it will do good for the healing process.
SB, thx for the video link way back in post #18.
joymus 121, David has to follow u on twitter for u to be able to send him a direct message.
re. this incident, i believe some good will come out of it for jeff. sometimes we need a wake up call to reassess how we live our lives and the impact our decisions have on others.
Sandy Beaches,
Unfortunately I cannot make a coherent critique on your well-written article. I was not born in this country and am therefore not as well-versed in most anyhing about Elvis Presley except as an icon in music. The only comparison I can attest to is their apparent intenseness in performing and ability to stir deep reactions in the hearts of listeners. I have not listened to much of Elvis but can appreciate his ability to interpret lyrics to the nth degree. I especially love the quote from his acceptance speech as this is what truly links the past to the present -- Elvis to David.
Hey guys! Just quickly checking back in. Joymus, I feel you. I’m very mad at Jeff too this morning.
And, strange as it sounds, I’ve been backtracking about what David was dealing with back on Jan. 14. That was only a few days earlier before he sang the SSB at the Latino Inauguration Ball. I also remember David telling a reporter how he wished his mom was there with him b/c Lupe would have enjoyed the event.
Which means that 1)no way David would have known that his dad was busted in a prostitution sting -- and accepting so matter of factly that his dad was with him at the Latino Inauguration Ball and not his mom (NO WAY!) and 2)Jeff didn’t even feel guilty enough over that foolishness to back off and let Lupe attend this event with David in his place. Grrrr!
Who knows what else I will remember? Okay, back to work.
Later!
Folks,
The news is public, and so it is theoretically open for discussion. But I would hope that the readers and commentators here will consider that just because a topic may officially fall within our guidelines, doesn’t mean it is necessarily worthy for discussion, particularly within the context of this site and this article.
Context — meaning the location and framework wherein one posts comments — is important. As many of you well know by now, extracting comments from their original context serves no other purpose than to inflame unnecessary and unprovoked drama. That is not what The David Chronicles is about. There are plenty of places online to discuss all manner of topics that are outside of our focus. Please go there if you wish to express your thoughts and feelings on the current news.
Most important, perhaps, is the notion that respecting a moratorium on this topic is an expression of respect for David, on a site that bears his name.
Thnx Desertrat. What does that mean? Also will unlocking my updates help? Sorry, my twitter ability is only to the point of receiving updates.
Thank You also for your perspective. Sometimes we have to almost lose something to appreciate it better. Perhaps the thought of broadsiding this unique voice just as he’s getting started will bring much needed perspective and appreciation.
Sorry, Rascal. I’ll post elsewhere on this issue.
Rascal: You are right, there is nothing more to be gained by rehashing this. I will respect David by moving on to another topic. Thanks for the kick in the pants
I hope I didn’t give anyone the impression that you have to be a fan of Jeff’s to be a fan of David. I didn’t mean that at all. I’ve never spoken to Jeff, even when I had the opportunity. It’s always just been about David for me. I don’t want any of this to be true, and certainly no more than this, so the tip of the iceberg analogy was too much for the Queen of Denial…sigh…I am just heartsick about this.
I was hoping last night that at least David knew about this for months, but it is looking like that might not be the case at all. The media will be slobbering all over this like a pack of wolves on a rabbit.
David is an extremely strong young man. He will need all of his strength in the days and months ahead. We need to keep him in our prayers.
{{{hug}}} > David and {{{group hug}}} > to you all.
Since I have a need to talk about David (hee hee), did you all hear that ridiculous interview the Boston radio station did with David yesterday. Not one question about his music other than his upcoming tour with Demi. They asked him if anyone ever stole his lunch in junior high and other inane things. Had him on the phone for 10 minutes and never spoke about the Fan Pack, his concerts, his new CD or Christmas album. What idiots.
Angelica -- {hugs} same to you and everyone also. It makes me feel a bit better already.
Joymus 126,
If your twitter is locked, you would have to unlock it. Also, just as we chose to “follow” David, he would have to choose to “follow” you too. For ex., he follows Jordin Sparks and she follows him. They can exchange direct mssgs with one another. Not to get your hopes down but for now, David only “follows” 10 people.
Rascal,
Sorry, Posted my comment before I saw yours. You’re right. I’m done.
SB, “Remain calm” … LOVE that.
We do have your back, David, always.
Marlie7, those interviewers had to be the worst so far … demeaning to David and the station’s listening audience … no wonder radio’s in such a sorry state….
Desertrat -- I do not want him to follow me. I simply wish to be able to send him a supportive tweet that he can perhaps “see” but not respond -- one of 90,000+
Rascal -- Thank you!
SandyBeaches -- I really enjoyed your post….My memories of Elvis are from later in his life, the silly outfits (well silly to me) and the over the top performances. I’ve gone back and listened and watched some of his earlier performances and he was really good…
I was wondering if any of you going to Del Mar have an extra David Chronicles buttons…. I didn’t order in time for Saturday…. I will gladly pay for one in Del Mar if you have an extra…thanks.
David….Saturday!
button not buttons….
Rascal . June 18, 2009 at 11:09 am .
Bless you rascal. Fanning flames is never a good thing.
Abrra
djafan…remember for those of us not going, we would like to hear about the concert. Help out our imaginations. Yes, Elvis’s costumes were over the top and we have only David’s from the AI tour to compare to…
TOfan…of course out on the ocean, it is like a prayer request for the ocean to…Remain Calm…but I can use that thought often.
Thank you Rascal for you common sense.
Rascal, may it not be time to expand our focus on the site to include whatever is going on in David’s life? David is more than his artistry. He is a complex young adult, and needs, I believe, to be so treated.
How can we be an effective support system if we ignore significant events such as this mess, when they arise? We are not going to exploit David here. We love him and respect him.
I have to agree with Rascal. If you want to discuss things other than David’s artistry there are other sites to do so..ie MJ’s. Please let there be one site that doesn’t have to deal with gossip.
I was late to the party for Elvis as well. I was preteen when he was starting out in mid 1950′s. I followed his career closer after the 1968 comeback special on television. I recall the John Lennon quote vividly. It’s ironic because Elvis was very threatened professionally by The Beatles, yet they worshiped him.
I am more a fan of “blue suede” (early) Elvis. A time when he was still making his music fresh with each performance (sound familiar?). I took a broader interest in his life and career after he died in 1977. David can take page from Elvis’ book and maybe learn to be very careful who he surrounds himself with. Some are not always looking after his best interest. Such was the case with the Memphis Mafia for Elvis.
Here is a video of him accepting the Jaycee Award referenced in the above article.
He looked good but was heavy into his addiction at this point.

Abrra, that was a treasure, what a find. I have watched it three times already. Oh, what could have been for him but we still have his beautiful songs.
SB
Renaid, this is not “gossip”, it’s verified news. How can we support him if we can’t discuss it? David is no longer a child. As David matures, so must his fans and his fan sites. This is a current situation that can have a direct impact on David’s career, and his artistry. I have been a counselor for many years. I have seen how destructive denial can be. David need active, outspoken support, not polite withdrawal.
Since I am already not the most popular member here @ TDC, I must say that I am in agreeance with you, Bliss.
That said….I don’t DARE touch this one!! However, Bliss’s comment @ #146 above is “spot on” in my book.
I just had a panic moment: I envisioned David blaming himself for his father’s “indiscretions” b/c David and his career took Jeff away from the family for such long periods of time.
I hope this does not happen! David, we love you and your soulfulness and your blessed music!
jello#147
“I envisioned David blaming himself for his father’s “indiscretions” b/c David and his career took Jeff away from the family for such long periods of time.”
OH CRAP!!
I’m done for realz now. *scampers out of Rascal’s reach*
jello, you are too popular; you make the boys say hello! There’s always room for the movers and shakers in this world.
Woot! Woot! Angelica!! You made my day!! I didn’t get creamed……..
….yet…..
j/s: We might get some “wicked” songwriting, wracked with emotion, out of big D as a result of this unfortunate event.
IMHO, as always.
Jello, your comments are speculative, insensitive, and bordering on offensive. Please remain on-topic or risk having your comments moderated.

Seriously screwed up.

I am speechless.
Cyberspace sucks.
Obviously my comments were taken 10000% WRONG!
Yup, I am done. I am so sorry everyone. I knew Rascal would make me cry one day. Today is the day. Goodbye.
Again, I am sorry. You just do not know me. I meant nothing bad by anything I wrote. I would NEVER mean anything bad about David.
May I still read comments here? Please?
Who is planning on videoing the concert at DelMar on Saturday? It will be interesting to see how the new band members fit in. Alex and Eli will be missed but it sounds like Dave and Jerry have a lot of experience. We’ll be eagerly awaiting videos and recaps from those lucky TDCers who will be attending.
Abrra -- like your avi.
Angelica -- like your avi too
renaid -- I’m having my daughter video for me because I sure won’t be able to do it, I’ll be to distracted….LOL
Time for a little music. We have had a few of our favorite songs from Elvis’s library so I have chosen one of my favorite songs by David.
This video has several pictures set to it and we can hear and see some of David’s beliefs.
SandyBeaches -- “tears”
Had never seen this….thank you!
Dear dja, I laughed at your comment and this one, well yes there were a few tears and only David’s singinig can do that.
SandyBeaches, that was beautiful. This is one of my favorites by David but I had never seen this video. It really lifts my spirits. Thanks.
Djafan, tell your daughter that she will be much appreciated by all of David’s fans who are unable to see him otherwise.
Wow! SB, tears are flowing now after that beautiful video and The Voice.
renaid…yes, thanks to the super people who are constantly putting videos together, we can usually find something new. He is a spirit lifting kind of guy.
SF…I know quite well what you mean and I guarantee that if you listen to it again the same thing will happen. I should have placed a warning near it.
David’s latest tweet..sweet!
Another day of rehearsiiing. Took a nap in the van lol. It helped a lot.
21 minutes ago from txt
All I can say is YAY!! with a great big EXHALE!!
Haha! Funny how that little tweet was like a shot of adrenaline! Now I can start packing for Del Mar!!
Gracias David, my little tweeter! Needed to hear from you so badly!!
Peace out for now!
Communicating is a good thing…and I will add a YAY to that please!
David made a statement through his rep:
http://www.usmagazine.com/news/david-archuleta-appreciates-support-after-dads-arrest-with-prostitute-2009186
It looks like David has his eye on the ball and is not going to let this sabotage what he needs to be doing. As usual, he is taking the high road. Yet another lesson we can all learn from this one of a kind, wonderful young guy. When it comes to David, my advise to everyone is, watch him and learn.
Bliss: I don’t speak here for the TDC team -- I haven’t discussed this with them, but I believe that the best support we can provide for David is to focus on his career and his artistry at this time. Although we all care very much, it is easy to slide into speculation and do more damage than good in a discussion. There is nothing to discuss. An allegation has been made, the press is covering it, for good or for bad, and David will deal with it in the way that he wishes. Yes, we can certainly learn from him.
It’s not denial for me, it’s the desire not to fan any more flames or create further “buzz” for David. Let Perez Hilton and MTV do that. We are here to support David’s career and right now he is about to embark on a summer tour that should give us much to discuss. I know from personal experience that when bad things happen in a family, the worst thing is to know that everyone is talking about it. So, let’s not.
Marlie7 Amen!
David Archuleta personifies class and grace. I just love this guy.
Marlie7 #170 -- Bliss was responding to information in a link presented to us in the comment preceeding his. I don’t think, in this particular instance, that Bliss was out-of-line. What he wrote regarding David (taking the high road) was good advice that could be applied to just about any situation, and the part about “watch him and learn” is pretty much similar to a lot of thoughts we have had about David from time to time.
Just got into work and I am happy to say Jeff’s story was not on the rundown for any of the newscasts tonight. A big sigh of relief on my part. I hope the whole thing blows over real quick.
This week at work has been terrible. A co-worker & friend’s son, who suffered from mental illness, died after being shot by police with a taser. And yesterday, the 911 tapes were released.
Having to listen to them was heartbreaking and then to have to find video of Jeff Archuleta for this story has been very taxing. In fact, I snapped at the producer over the story last night. I have to keep telling myself, gotta be objective.
It brings me great relief that David was able to make a statement and is still tweeting. I agree with you all, that David “personifies class & grace” and that he will be ok.
My apologies for this post but I was very relieved that the tv station has moved on and I wanted to share.
Wow, Cutter, I’m really sad to hear about this. What a rough week this has been for you. Hope you can find some solace in David’s music today -- despite everything.
Well, I thought about it and decided to do a quick reflective post on my Soul David blog about it. http://souldavid.wordpress.com/
I realize a number of sites, including TDC, would rather not discuss this issue, but it does feel a bit weird to create a kind of self-imposed silence on this subject. I’m in agreement with Bliss here, but I also understand this kind of negativity is hard for fans. One thing I have learned, now that I’ve been part of David’s fan community, is we don’t really know how to talk through and around negativity. Gushing is the easy part, but if I can make some people uncomfortable expressing my worries (warranted or not) over decisions made by David’s label or management, then we certainly haven’t prepared ourselves for something like this.
At the same time, it is a bit weird seeing certain fan sites deleting comments or speaking in “hushed tones” about That Which Will Not Be Named. It’s so Victorian and repressed.
If the subject hurts or if there is no way to really discuss it without descending into gossip and speculation, perhaps the moratorium is for the best.
But, I do extend an invitation to any of you who just want a space to express your concerns -- AS FANS -- to come leave a comment on my blog.
Marlie7, what are you so afraid of? Something happened in the life of the artist who we all love. If this site really wants to present itself as an adult site where mature fans of David come to have intelligent dialogue on all aspects of his life, then you need to let the free flow of ideas happen.
HG, thanks for the invitation. I may just take you up on it. I’m getting a little tired of the increasingly repressive nature of this site.
Oh my gosh, Bliss! You are awesome. Again, very well stated.
Hellogorgeous -- thanks for redirecting those of us who wish to speak out on this topic. It was a wonderful post and I absolutely loved it!!
Bliss and Jello — I suggest you take a look.
Perhaps having a site affiliated with the mother site TDC, may be the way to go as we have had differences of opinion before and that can be expected to happen again. Each site with their purposes but agreeing jointly on the terms and conditions and one not overriding the other.
Just a small thought as we are a little stuck in the mud with this.
SB
HG and Bliss: What I am afraid of is the kind of thing where someone “assumes” what David will think, how David will react, what it will mean to David. We saw an example of that in a comment above that “wondered” if he would feel responsible -- WTF?
What purpose does it serve to continue to discuss “what might happen”, “how David might feel about it”, “what so and so has said about it”? Do you want to advise David on what to do about it? If so, give him a call.
I know we do that with Jive, but that is so much different than this to me. Perhaps I’m the only one who thinks we can best support David by letting him deal with this talk -- and there is plenty of talk from his non-fans -- by giving him some space to do just that -- deal with it in the way he sees fit.
This is so personal and has been made public by David’s celebrity. Do you find it necessary to discuss your co-worker’s nasty divorce in great detail around the lunch table when they are not there, or the unhappy situation they have with their child until they walk into the room? It seems the same thing to me.
You want to be an adult, mature site? Then handle this with the grace and respect that you would give the person who works across the hall from you; be there when they ask, and leave them to handle their problems in their own way when they don’t ask. David at least deserves that. He is a victim in this mess and will have plenty to work out without us adding to it.
If there is something important and not just more of the same news or speculation to talk about, then tell me what it is. And again, I am not speaking for TDC. I have not asked nor discussed my point of view on the issue of comments here with that team. I’m just speaking for myself, so do what you will.
I’m not even sure I should post this, because I don’t want to contribute to the debate. But I can’t sit back and let your comments imply that I am afraid or feel the need to be hush-hush. There is no hushing this mess, but we don’t have to contribute to it when there are plenty of discussions all over the web that are delighting in it.
HG, Bliss & Jello, thank you for your comments ~ you definitely are not alone in your thinking. I look forward to reading your blog, HG. It’s been a very long day!
This is what I’m going on to say on this subject, and then I’ll redirect my discussion on this issue elsewhere.
I have been participating in this particular community of David fans for a full year. ONE YEAR since I discovered Noting David and the wonderful people who have been frequenting ND then JD and now TDC. That’s a long time to develop a loving and supporting e-community of David fans.
Now that we, as David fans, need each other more than ever, now is when we are going to decide that we cannot discuss an issue that could affect David’s artistry? Yes, this is about his “personal life,” but when it spills over into his public persona and music artistry, and many of us need to discuss our concerns within the safety net of fellow David fans, NOW is when we’re told we need to have discussions elsewhere?
As if I want to discuss such a sensitive issue at a site like MJ’s Blog or Rickey’s or, heaven forbid, at Vote for the Worst! We’ve known each other for a year, and now when we need to debrief, discuss, unload, unpack, vent, and cry, we’re told to put a muzzle on it?
Honestly, we really need to think about what it is that we’re doing here and for each other. Yes, I have my own blog to express these concerns there, but I am taken aback when I’m told that we can’t engage in discussion HERE. It’s like being told by people you’ve come to know all this time that, all of a sudden, we’re no longer trustworthy enough to share our thoughts with.
I do hope we can distinguish between regular folks who want to gossip and the fans who truly love David and want to commiserate with other fans who also love David. Don’t ever forget that, for many of us, TDC and other sites like it, are our only outlets to express our David love fully. We’ve already repressed so much of that love offline. Let’s not encourage that repression online as well.
Peace,
HG
Oh my. After reading your post @ #180 Marlie, I realize that I am not good at all at conveying my thoughts over the internet. It took me this long to have my wake-up call. What I perceive as funny-you all see as sarcastic and rude. I imagine I have come across as tactless. I see that now.
The only reason that I suggested that David might end up blaming himself is because I was worried about that happening b/c he is such a nice and humble young man. I care about David and am concerned for him during this time.
I NEVER EVER expected you, or ANYONE here at TDC to say WTF??? to my concerns re: David. For that-I am truly embarrassed. David is the only artist I follow at the present time and it has been such an exhilarating experience!
I guess I just want you all to know that I am really upset with myself that this did not work out and that I may have bothered some people with my remarks. I never meant to.
To the MODERATOR: I apologize and take full responsibility for any misconceptions regarding my infrequent and tactless posts. Rascal….I ask that you ban me from TDC as of right now. Just my posts though….I would still like to read everyone’s thoughts on a daily basis.
Thank you -- I think you are all great and wonderful individuals!
Addendum to the last line of jello’s post above:
“I think you are all great and wonderful individuals”
…except you, Rascal, I am not too sure about you yet…MY jury is still out on you LOL
I had to go out in my usual way, didn’t I???
BYE!!!I will miss TDC!
See what I mean? Here is Jello posting her thoughts on this subject who is now made to feel like she’s being “tactless” or “offensive” or inappropriate.
Um, hello? We have just found out that our idol, our favorite guy in the world, is dealing with the now public news that his father was arrested in a prostitution ring. A guy who, for all intents and purposes, works very hard to always do the right thing, and here he is dealing with a dad who may have done the most wrong thing, which is now tainting his image even though he has done nothing wrong.
Of course, people are going to “wonder” about this and ask about that, we’re trying to gather our thoughts here. If we can “wonder” about the size of his thighs -- and we’ve had those discussion here -- then why can’t we “wonder” about what might be going through his head? We’re his fans! We worry about him! We drool about him! We want him to emerge out of this scandal unscathed!
I wouldn’t even mind the self-imposed silence here if other fan sites allowed for open discussion. But when everyone is choosing silence, not only do I question this method, I start wondering who’s bankrolling these sites since this can’t be just mere coincidence.
Okay, I said I’d leave this discussion here and have it elsewhere. I’ll be quiet for now.
What’s so ironic is that you guys have always been proud of your “diversity” which is “thought-provoking”….and right now it seems as though this diversity is tearing TDC apart
I hope I am not out of line, but it seems that virtually everyone here supports David, and some want to share their feelings and thoughts regarding a serious issue, that being the case, why doesn’t someone just create a separate post so that those that want to discuss the issue can, and those who wish not to just don’t need to enter that post/discussion.
I’m laughing out loud…sorry, but reading the posts, one minute I’m agreeing with the lets talk about it, then I read some more and I decide that no we shouldn’t talk about it. I’ve gone back and forth half a dozen times and I started laughing, I think I’m going nuts.
I don’t know what the answer is but this much I do know, I love David, you all love David. I was in shock yesterday, today I cried when viewing When You Believe video. I’ve been lurking here and there to see how everyone is reacting. Then I had a sobbing session…I have my twitter open in the corner of my monitor occasionally checking to see if David is getting tweets from his close to 100,000 followers. All morning he had been getting tweets of support by the dozens. At on point I watched it go from 8 to 50 to 150 to 300 in minutes. What the heck is happening… I refreshed and it froze…. I waited and finally several minutes later it came up and I saw that David had tweeted, I started reading. Tweet after tweet of love, we have your back, we love you, don’t worry, we’re praying for you, be strong, on and on. The tweets kept coming.
What a show of love from his fans, this young man by just being himself has affected so many.
I just wanted to share this and express my love and unwavering support for David always, whatever is decided to be appropriate or not at TDC, I will continue to lurk and post here because I need a place where people, mature and intelligent people, understand me and where I don’t feel like a crazy person.
Thank you all for that.
bj -- are you a guy? You think like a guy. Short and sweet and to the point. I applaud you! (I’d put a happy face here if I only knew how…)
HG, I know how you feel but — and I’m only speaking for myself here — I keep going back to Kizzi’s motto, which is not to post anything online you wouldn’t feel comfortable saying to the person face-to-face (in this case, David).
The only thing I’m sure about right now is that David will continue to show us what courage and class is all about … he’s going to tough it out and get on with the work of being his brilliant self … surely we can give it a try.
And to all those going to Del Mar, you might want to protect your hearing because the cheers of welcome for David are sure to be deafening.
I know you won’t stop there, though.
I know you’ll all scream loud and cheer long and hard for yourselves and for every one of us here … cheer till your ears ring and your throat is raw and the bleachers shudder with the loving energy pouring onto that stage … for David.
The same thought did cross my mind -I hope David does not feel guilty about what happened. I saw an interview of Mietra, David’s friend, where David was upset after she took a tumble while rollerblading. I remember her saying that David kept saying “I’m sorry, I’m sorry” and didn’t stop until she told him “it wasn’t his fault that she sucks at skating”. From my experiences, young people seem to feel responsible, even with things outside their realm of control. I have read David claiming he is aware of how his dreams have affected his family and the things they have endured for him. So, it seems natural for some of his fans may wonder. I don’t know what David is thinking, but what I have seen, it is possible, he may feel guilty. I pray this is not the case.
And as for TDC becoming segragated -- my vote is NO.
That is the greatest thing about this site. Everyone should feel that their thoughts and observations are valid and should not feel they should censor them because of that.
We have a place to discuss things that might upset other David fans and that place is The David Chronicles.
Looking forward to reading all your posts later. Pax
Cutter, good points. But the thing is, Jeff does not have to travel with David like he does. It is, in fact, unnecessary. It is totally Jeff’s choice and David should have no guilt whatsoever.
I agree with those posters who would prefer to express themselves on a fan site rather than some of those awful sites in cyberspace. I lurk, I buy, I vote, I request, I stream and I do it all with all the fans. Wouldn’t it have been nice to commiserate with the same fans. Trouble sleeping? You bet.
Tofan -- I so love your avi. And this, “I know you’ll all scream loud and cheer long and hard for yourselves and for every one of us here … cheer till your ears ring and your throat is raw and the bleachers shudder with the loving energy pouring onto that stage … for David.”
I think this is one of the few, and possibly the ONLY place, alot of the regulars feel comfortable posting about this, so it is just difficult for them to feel they cannot express those feelings here. I do know that the request comes from having the utmost, most profound and highest form of respect you can have for another person, one who has earned that degree of respect.
And I respect that.
(((emmiegirl)))
Djafan -- Have I told you how “cool” you are…cause you are.
I don’t know how to make a smiley.
“HG, I know how you feel but — and I’m only speaking for myself here — I keep going back to Kizzi’s motto, which is not to post anything online you wouldn’t feel comfortable saying to the person face-to-face (in this case, David).”
TOfan, if I were able to talk to David face-to-face, I would ask him if he wanted a hug before giving one, then I would tell him I love and support him no matter what, and then I will ask him if he wants my advice, and if he says yes, I will suggest to him that he fire Jeff from his management pronto.
That’s what I would comfortably tell him face-to-face.
If any luck, Jive and/or Arzoff will demand that Jeff step down. Will Jeff show his face on tour? God, I hope not!
SB #157 thank you for the video and David’s message to us--isn’t it interesting how he delivers to us when what we all really want to do right now is to deliver to him--LOVE to David!
I believe a smiley is made like this, without the space: : )
Correction: one colon and one closing paren
pabuckie,
Here ya go, sweetie. We can all use a smile right now.
http://codex.wordpress.org/Using_Smilies
cutter12 #174- I know of the incident you were referring to--how heartbreaking that you work with his father-- it must be a really hard time at your office right now--they are a good, good family.
marlie7--I appreciate and agree with where you’re at with your comments--let the media do what we know they will, and let’s just leave it alone. We are all humans in this mortal world and as such, we make mistakes. On FOD tonight there was a statement in small print: “If you judge people, you have no time to love them.”--Mother Teresa. This will go on my ‘to be repeated every day’ list.
I feel so lost today! I’m suffering for our guy while there’s nothing I can do to change this ugly picture and now I can’t share either.
I thought the rudeness towards Jello was uncalled for -- she was joking. Unfortunate, maybe. But when have we become so superior and judgemental? Like HG and Bliss I don’t get what’s going on at TDC. This site has always been thoughtful, considerate and patrol-free. I understood there was trust in the maturity and commonsense of posters here. If someone got out of line they could be admonished in a sensible way, without being made a public example.
I find the posture adopted by other David fansites puzzling. It’s like nothing is happening at all.
I’m sorry I don’t care to discuss Elvis when hell is breaking loose outside. And I don’t mean any offence to SB’s beautifully written piece.
P.S. WHERE are you juliebug? bigsky? whatjusthappened? dawn65…it was always easy to feel the David love from ya’all…
A few weeks ago, I issued an order to myself. “Only lurk and do not post here. Your views are too protective of David for TDC.”
But this post brought me out with tears swelling in my eyes:

Yes, I need to come out, just to say, David, I support you too, I am praying for you too, with all my love. And listen David: It. Is. Not. Your. Fault.
I want David to be able to hear from me, in case he wanted to.
David is tweeting up a storm..hope it means he’s in good spirits, take a look…

Speaking of David’s twitter, have you his more recent posts? Sort of funny and weird, especially when he wonders if the guy next door to his hotel room can “smell his fear”? Apparently, David is creeped out by the guy’s laughter.
I swear if this news didn’t break, I’d be ROFL but it’s hard for me to not read between the lines (even if there really is no subtext to be found).
That should say “have you SEEN his more recent posts” and SF beat me to it! haha!
Thanks for your nightly prayer, SF! G’nite!
I have to correct a misconception. Unlike FOD, I absolutely do not support Jeff, and that is not what my issue is about.
And another -- bankrolling? Come on, HG, you know better than that about TDC. Six people bust their butts here to support this site. The implication was uncalled for.
I’ll be behind the scenes -- have at it.
I was being facetious about the “bankrolling,” Marlie. But really, the “silence” is deafening on some of the fan sites. It comes off more like group think denial and less like reverence. JMHO.
Sorry if you’re offended, but the silence imposed on the fans is just as offensive.
In keeping with Elvis; without a song, the day would never end…so here’s a song…
SB
I’ve always loved that performance of David’s. Thanks for sharing, SB.
On that note, G’nite all! Sleep well, chill out, and keep David and his family in your prayers.
Thank you for this site!!! I mostly only lurk and rarely post, but I had to add something to the discussion. I knew I could come here and get the story. I received an email about supporting David “during this difficult time” but did not know what this dfficult time was about. I went searching, thinking someone had died or something and found NOTHING on Snarkies and only a curious post on FOD. Knowing how open to discussion this site is I had to come here and find out what was wrong. I understand the difficulties many are having with “to discuss” or “not to discuss”, but that’s what is so great about TDC. It’s usually OK to discuss here, kind of hash things out. Gossip is wrong, but wondering how this will affect David and expressing concern and support for David is not gossip. Even speculating on what may or not be true is not necessarily gossip. I think everyone is just trying to sort out their feelings and it’s great to have TDC to do that. I love snarkies for their info and unfailing support for David, but sometimes feel they are seeing it all with very rose colored glasses. Unfortunately life is not that simple, David is not that simple.
I love it here and hope that you will continue to allow open discussions and thoughts to be posted!! Thank you again for this mature and intelligent site
Julie
I understand how much work it takes to put up and maintain a wonderful site like this. Therefore, when I felt that people did not side with me, out of respect, I would just back off.
All day though, I kept wondering. We promised David unconditional love. We claimed to have his back. On this issue, most fan base has been eerily quiet, as if nothing is happening. So if David was looking for support from the fan sites, what would he see? He would “see” silence.
- Hello, is anybody out there?
- Sorry David. It’s about your Dad. We should not talk about this.
(Oh thank God at least he could find the lovely Tweeters!)
Why can’t we fans be fair? Why can’t we fans be direct and say,
“David, on this one, we’re sorry, but your Dad is wrong. It is okay if you feel angry. We would not let the world harm you over this. They better not try. Keep pursuing your dream. We absolutely have your back. We won’t back off. No matter what. No matter whom.”
And that is my pledge to David.
dreamerjulie, nice post and welcome. You say ” I love it here and hope that you will continue to allow open discussions and thoughts to be posted.”
So do I. That is the only way that the site can be accurately called a “mature and intelligent site.”
Peruu #215 You are absolutely right -- I too just lurk daily -- today has kinda been a sad day thinking of David and trying to inagine how he is feeling. I can’t help but feel angry about all of this. I think what you said is worth repeating.
“David, on this one, we’re sorry, but your Dad is wrong. It is okay if you feel angry. We would not let the world harm you over this. They better not try. Keep pursuing your dream. We absolutely have your back. We won’t back off. No matter what. No matter whom.”
Love you David. See you in Del Mar.
HG, my take on the silence is more of not fueling the gossip any further. And also because we all know that at least 2 of David’s most active fansites have a “relationship” with Jeff. They must be gobsmacked with this development.
I was also taken aback by your “bankrolling” comment. TDC? But I was thinking you must have been merely teasing
But that’s just me.
Here in Manila, the core group has decided to work up a storm on texting and voting his songs in MYX, MTV, TeenChoice & promoting his EP FanPack in radio stations, as a show of support.
Or perhaps stream his songs in the websites of major radios where his stripped performances are featured -- here are some in case you would like to join in streaming:
http://www.star1013fm.com/main.html
http://www.kiisfm.com/main.html
http://www.star1013fm.com/cc-common/ondemand/stripped.html?apid=5686
I understand that kiis and star are in the SanFran area where David’s songs are hardly played…
(lumbering in… dragging my soap box…) Holy crap people. I love you all. Really. Even those of you that I can’t stand, I love in a bloggers’ sort of way, because you make the blogging world interesting. But this nonsense, yes I said nonsense, should stop.
“Who the hell are you happy tellin’ us to stop?”…
I’ll tell you who….I am the voice of reason (don’t laugh djb.) That’s how nuts this place has gotten… it’s nuts when I am the voice of reason. Why would anyone with a busy life devote countless hours to maintaining a blog? Why would anyone with a busy life devote countless hours to reading and or commenting on a blog? I’m sure the reasons are varied, but I doubt that anyone would list among them… “because I like to bicker and accuse and get offended.” Now if I am wrong, and those are your reasons, yes I am talking to you overly sensitive whiners (both the sunny ones and the grey ones),… go away. I mean that in the nicest way possible of course, so don’t get all offended. It’s just that I can’t take the high drama any more.
Those who aren’t interested in bickering and accusing and getting offended…please stay…and offer your thoughts…. and discuss… and debate… and analyze… and disagree… and say what you want and be prepared for people to agree and disagree and get over yourself. Oh my heck, this is a fan blog for goodness’ sake.
I am cranky and I will go to bed now… so hush cats, let me sleep…you shouldn’t be fighting.
Happy # 219 Thanks for my first laugh of the day.
renaid -- I’m charging up all my batteries, and clearing off memory cards! I usually get at least two good vids… hopefully this time more! Fingers crossed.
Speaking of Elvis--intriguing article, SandyBeaches!--here’s one for David:

David… you’ll never walk alone, ‘cus we’ll always be right beside you.

happy #219 ~ me laugh??? How the heck can I possibly laugh or even snicker with the amt of duct tape you have my mouth so nicely wrapped up in???
~ gotta love the Voice of Reason~
rena-
djxox 222- my bff ! you mean we could play tennis if I weren’t in my jammies and turning off the lights? You, with your mouth duct taped, and me with my ears happily enjoying the silence as I whip your… never mind…we can catch a game tomorrow…
HAPPY -- bahahahahahaha!
And I see you are back with your brownies!
Happy and djxox -
You two are crazzzyyy and I love you both.
Hope to someday get to hang out….lol
Happy~ what the $*&#@ are you thinkin’..running around in your jammies…people will talk ya know..
oh… I finally found out what happened… but I don’t care what Jeff did, in this world, only one person have the rights, right?
To me, this only proves David becomes more and more popular and every tiny thing (even 5 months ago issue) goes to be a news. So. No do anything wrong, man and fans.
djxox -- it is ok to run around in jammies, as long as happy has socks!
PERUU — “David, on this one, we’re sorry, but your Dad is wrong. It is okay if you feel angry. We would not let the world harm you over this. They better not try. Keep pursuing your dream. We absolutely have your back. We won’t back off. No matter what. No matter whom.”
THIS. Thank you!
I think DelMar will be a very emotionally uplifting experience for David when all of you going there will no doubt show HOW MUCH you guys have his back. I’ll be there with you in spirit
(tearing up, see what you made me do peruu!)
SF#207 -- “…..give us, David’s forever fans, the wisdom to know when and how to do right by David. Open our eyes and help us in the way we support David so that it’s always in his best interests.”
I hear you! It’s about DAVID. Thanx for this prayer. It soothes when there is so much pain.
happy~#219 You crack me up! Thanks for the laugh. We all needed that.
I just got finished with my second David tribute video. I’ve been stumped for over a week trying to pick a song. I have to have the song before I can even start. Then on the 16th, David,(my muse,) suggested a song by Matt Duke called Rabbit. I loved it from my first hearing and even with all the times I have listened to it during the making of this, I still can’t get enough. Hope you like it too.
HG, I’m going to jump in here and just add my two cents. Sure some of the other sites aren’t talking about this issue, but that’s because the individuals who post on those sites, and I mean the fans and not the moderators, choose not to. I don’t think anyone is in denial at all. Just as there isn’t a consensus here as to what should be discussed, people are going through the same thing on other sites, and if there is a ‘deafening silence’, maybe it’s just ’cause the majority of people on other sites don’t wish to discuss it. I don’t think there is anything right or wrong about it. It just is. I think everyone is dealing with this in their own way and I’m going to respect their individual choices.
This TDC post was originally about Elvis and David, and the comments went OT when the news broke out. Fine. The other sites are continuing to do what they normally do too, which is make fun, happy, newsy posts and do what they do best, which is show support and love for David and his music.
Angelica, I love your video — l went through a gamut of emotions watching it. Sadness,delight, melancholy, joy. When you cry and smile at the same time, are you criling?
Dreamerjulie, Glad to see you here!
Lotus, I would accept your argument that most people were just choosing not to discuss. But when I see “comments deleted” on certain sites, I beg to differ.
At least TDC didn’t go overboard and do that. But then, at the end of the day, we are a mature and diverse community.
And despite our bickering and “nonsense” (Happy, your brownies are always so nutty -- haha!), we still had the discussion when the admins could have gone berserk and started deleting liberally or cracking skulls.
So, it looks like this place really is kept running by six devoted fans and not some nefarious phantom bankroller after all! (I sincerely hope you can catch my snark here).
Good morning everyone!
Angelica #231…Good morning..how to start…the pictures are fabulous and some never before seen I am guessing. You have a way with pictures and that is your expertise.
Thank you for introducing this to us and of course it will make the big time. You have portrayed so many of David’s wonderful essences…
SB
I love you happy!
Happy for President!!! (dang it, I can’t vote)
In the beginning, there were fan sites, all devoted to the same thing: unwavering love and support for David Archuleta and his music.
Over time, the sites grew, diverged a little, morphed into their own personalities and styles. They sparked and clashed from time to time and each forged their own path. But when the chips were down, everyone was reminded that we’ve always agreed on one thing: our unwavering love and support for David Archuleta and his music.
Marlie7, where’d you put that Kumbaya video?
i want to thank hellogorgeous for creating a place, a safe place for those with feelings of hurt, shock, dismay, disappointment and stronger emotions to come together and share them. i posted this over on her site, and would like to share it here as well.
i am not a person who brings my deepest emotional feelings and thoughts – not just about david, but anything really – onto the forum i primarily post, or share them on the internet. i’m fortunate enough to have people at home, and a few good friends in my life with whom i can sit down with face to face, talk on the phone with that are my sounding board – not just about this situation with david, but anything…. it in no way means that i don’t consider my fellow fans of david here and across other sites friends, because if you ”get” him and give of your time and heart to support him, that connects us in that manner, as friends. it is just not in my emotional makeup to share the ”deep darks” of my thoughts or emotions freely on a forum or blog or message boards. i am no kool aid drinker, can and do have the ability to think for myself, and use my own judgment regarding what i say and will not say on a public forum. i draw very distinct boundaries in my real life, and my david life – is the word compartmentalize?
not all david fans have or feel the need or desire to express strong, visceral emotions on a public forum -- that for me doesn’t signify a lack of maturity, or emotional depth and a desire to suppress or deny anything… i look at it as a ”different strokes for different folks” kind of a deal.. and we fans, though we share in o.d.d., are as different, diverse and as individual as they come…
because one may not see or read the hurt, shock and sadness, the pissed offedness and disgust felt about jeff – forgive me hg, if i’m making up words, posted online by some fans of david does not mean it is being suppressed by the mods, group think, the posters are in denial, or are with ‘’silence” in some way supporting jeff…. in my case, this is the furthest thing from the truth.
it is david i am supporting – first, last, always… choosing not to share anything deeper than this statement online is just that – a choice. i have a support system at home in which to ”get it all out” – the good, bad, and the ugly – friends and family members who i thank god for every day… their loving support gives me the space then to come online, and do that which i love to do – assume the role as ”head cheerleader” for david… peace and hugs to all…. we all have our ways of dealing with things, but never mistake what you may see as ‘’silence” as complicity… back to ”cheerleading” before real life calls…
thanks tdc and the souldavid for being here…..

Meant to add above, Marlie7 for co-President!!! Everyone in agreement say “Marching Band”!
Angelica, won’t be able to watch your vid till tonight but I’m sure it’s amazing. You wouldn’t also be working on a non-David ATM vid, by chance? *nudges*
angelica, I too bow to you. very very nice.
Abrra…you might think I am crazy, well maybe sometimes I am but here goes…
rascal…someone by the name of “sandy” recently posted comments on FOD and I just want to clarify that the sandy person is not me SandyBeaches of TDC.
Happy travels to those going to Del Mar today…

ggdoorsfan # 238….wonderful post. I believe there are legions of us that think and feel all the things that you wrote…Thank You for expressing it so well.
Many, many times in my life “since David” I have had moments where I want to be a better person. I look to David for inspiration on how to handle myself with more maturity, kindness and dignity, (I am 56).
I too, just want to support him and be his cheerleader.
Angelica, BRAVO! One of my joys of coming here is to view or read anything you have to say.
When the picture of David,(sleeping in the limo, I think),came-up, I instinctually reached out to touch the screen where I would’ve rubbed his hair while he slept. (Just as any loving “mom” would do!)
You can certainly NOT deny that this was a labor-of-love for you to produce. Thank-you, it’s lovely!

Will this do for now?
Lovely he is!

Abrra -- that smile at 18 seconds…kills me. And puts one on my face.
betsy…the smile comes usually at that time after he has played a few bars and hits certain notes and he loves that they cheer at that time…therefore, up comes the big smile.

Angelica -- Like you having the gift or writing wasn’t enough, this is video number 2, right? Beautiful pictures and just the perfect presentation.
Pabuckie -- Thank You!
For the twitterers out there….Jimmy Fallon is asking to tweet him requesting a musical guest….. That shouldn’t be to hard for us…LOL

For those of you who don’t mind the voting, I think the Teen Choice Awards is a great way to support David, he tweeted about it.
If you have teens, grandkids, or if you know any teens…. feel free to vote. I have 8 grandkids, so I vote 8 times a day guilt free…..

djafan “For the twitterers out there….Jimmy Fallon is asking to tweet him requesting a musical guest….. That shouldn’t be too hard for us” LOL … and someone upthread mentioned their sigh of relief at seeing David’s tweets yesterday (SF maybe?). Me too.
I find the outpouring of support David’s getting on Twitter and his many tweets back to fans yesterday so heart-warming. For all my initial head-scratching over the point of Twitter, it’s provided a connection and an outlet that Works for David, and for us. Very cool. … and, um, yes, I am now officially a Twit
Thanks, Abrra!
Angelica, your video was absolutely beautiful. So many pictures I had never seen before.
GGdoorsfan, thank you for posting. I always find myself agreeing with your posts. You express what I am feeling and thinking so much better than I ever could. Hope you post often.
Highervibe, I will look forward to your videos from DelMar. Have a great time and let David know how much we all love him.
He has my love and my prayers. What a terrific example he is not only for the young but also for those of us who are older.
Speaking of Twitter . . .Twitter campaign to CRUSH MS info here:
http://www.snarkyarchies.com/2009/06/not-to-change-subject-or-anything.html
Of course you don’t actually have to be on Twitter to donate a dollar! It’s easy! And would be so cool if we actually pulled something like that off. And Angelica, I noticed we probably have the same picture file on our computers as many of the pics I used in the video are the same!
HG, wonderful post on your SoulDavid blog (tried to comment there but it wouldn’t go through, grrr) ….
helllooooo….
Del Mar people… Are there any plans to meet before the show?
I read in twitter that it has sold out…. trying to confirm.
bebe found this video… taking the liberty to post
Ssshhhh….tiptoeing in here just to say:
Everyone going to upcoming concerts….have a GREAT time!! I am going to Little Rock 7/02 and Tulsa 7/06.
Thank you,
Jello.
SandyBeaches:
When I heard you were doing a piece comparing David to Elvis I had a problem figuring out what you’d say. After all, Elvis was flamboyant and David is organic. I thought hard and all I came up with was their beautiful voices, their charisma and amazing stage presence. But your insightful article showed me that there is much more!!
I wasn’t a big fan of Elvis although I did have the privilege of seeing him live in concert the same year he passed away. My best friend needed someone to go with and since I loved concerts, even back then, she didn’t have to twist my arm too much. I had no idea what I was in for, and what I was in for was a real treat. It was 1977 at Nassau Coliseum in Long Island (same venue David will be playing this summer!) Elvis captivated the audience who went wild for him and couldn’t stop screaming throughout the entire show. He exuded a sexy magnetism onstage, the likes of which drove people to their feet. Everyone was standing! He connected with his audience by feeling the music in his whole body.
Wait a second.
That sounds like David Archuleta!
~~~~~
To all the lucky ones going to see David at Del Mar tomorrow, including dja, mikesd, davidfanLiz and SF, I wish you all a wonderful time! Please get back to us ASAP with details. We love details!
hi jello lol!
Thanks bebereader, I can’t wait! And we will have something really fun and non-controversial to talk about for a change of pace!
LIZ: Did ya have to shout so loud?! You outed me! Remember…ssshhhh lol
Thank you,
Jello.
ggdoorsfan #238 -- Thank you for your eloquent words. Thanks to everybody for their patience as each of us deals with the upset and hurt in our own way.
Guys, good day from one Sydney fan who loves this man who we called THE VOICE. All I can say I will like to announce to the world I will support David forever and ever. I always say there is a reason for everything. And someone (just our David) said ,”There is a light at the end of the tunnel.”
And before I forget,Lupe, even you don’t know me,I am sending my love to you and your family..
Now being my efamily….Guys this little nanay (mother in Pilipino) from Sydney is going to see our David. I am going to the US….drums please……..29June. BUT my sister lives in Connecticut..missed the 21 June XL concert….But I have extend my visit and reschedule flights to fit in the July 17 LA Nokia concert…. So as soon as I touch the US soil I will try to grab 2-3 tickets (I have to bring my sisters to see David of course).
JR one of my dreams to see David live in person is now becoming a reality.
So if some of you guys are going to the July 17 concert, I will be there from 15 July. Will love to see you there.
Before anything else SB love your article. Angelica love the video. I am still trying to finish my first one. These last few days I have been listening to the so called duet of David and Robbie singing Angels. Sorry if this has been posted earlier
Remember just David and his music, the rest are just accessories…
See you guys on the 29June. Based on my tentative schedule I will be visiting New York, Boston, Washington DC and of course Connecticut . So if there are TDC people in these states I would love to meet you guys. David plus you guys helped me survived these 15 months of hell.
vee,
If you need tickets to the LA show, I have two very good seats that I bought before the VIP’s came out, which I also have. They are very comparable to the VIP section. I haven’t had a chance to post them yet but if you would like to contact me via the contact section I’d be happy to talk to you about them…
Del Mar tomorrow!!!!
Hi Vee,
I’ll be at the Nokia in LA, along with mikesd and davidfanliz. How exciting for you. Do you have VIP?
But for now Del Mar!!!!!!!!
Angelica, what a great video! You sure did capture some great moments in ‘the history’ of David. Loved it.
Can’t wait to see videos start coming in tomorrow from Del Mar. Wishing all of you attending the best of times--scream and dance for the rest of us. Love ya!
Scream and dance FTW!
Hey all! Thanks for the nice comments on my video. It was my pleasure, I assure you. I have learned so much since the advent of the Archulator into my life. It’s hard now to imagine what life was like before. Not nearly so wonderful or interesting. The music sucked too. haha.
To all the lucky ones attending Del Mar tomorrow, go out there and show him how much we love him here at TDC! Have a great time and hurry back with lots to tell.
Abrra, I will send you an email for my contact number in Connecticut and what date we’ll be in Boston.
Mikesd, I would love those tickets. I will leave my contact details so we can make some arrangemenst.
So Djafan,Davidfan and you Mikesd see you in LA.
Guys I am so excited.
I will start packing now. I have to think what to give to MR David.
Just want to wish everybody going to Del Mar a fun fun time! David is already tweeting away in San Diego. He seems to be in high spirits.
Hello from the bee-u-tee-ful city of San Diego, made even MORE beautiful after David landed here! And in MY hotel..KIDDING!!! I could never be THAT lucky!
I have no idea where he is at this moment…he could he in my hotel (the very beautiful Sheraton on the Marina) but most likely up the coast.
Had dinner with River & Lily..both very lovely ladies, even more lovely because they love & admire David as I do!
It’s only 9PM here, but I’m still on EST, (and so is David, heh-heh!). I’m tired and going to dreamland. I can’t quite belive I am here and going to see HIM tomorrow night. If I could see David sing live at least once every month for the rest of my life, well I wouldn’t ask for much else except to live a very looooonnnnnggggg time!
For now, life is godd, very good! Except I dopped my phone in the hotel parking lot and broke it! Will have to get a new one early tomorrow!
Can’t be w/o a phone!
Good night all, and for David,
Dear Lord,
Please take care of David. Watch over him, protect him from all harm. Cloak him with your love and give him the strength to endure all that is thrown in his path. Give David the courage and guidance to say no to those who ask for more than he can reasonably give. Surround David with loving and supportive people who love him UNCONDITIONALLY as we, his Archangels do. Separate David from those who have agendas other than for his well being. Give him rest when he’s weary. Give him the stamina to sustain his hectic pace. Give him assurance when he feels doubt. Give him joy when he feels sad. Cloak him always in your protective arms during this time on his journey. Keep David and and his voice healthy & strong as he fulfills his Destiny which was written in his Book of Life before he was born. And please Lord, give us, David’s forever fans, the wisdom to know when and how to do right by David. Open our eyes and help us in the way we support David so that it’s always in his best interests. May his positive and good Karma continue to attract those with positive and good Karma! May he continue to encounter goodwill and happiness! May he continue to be healthy and strong wherever his journey leads him. Though we may be unworthy, we humbly pray. Amen
David, hope you have a good night’s sleep & sweet dreams. Keep with you all our love, prayers and warm thoughts! We will always love you madly! REMEMBER, if you are ever in need of help, tweet us an SOS and your Archangels will be there in a flash!
Contigo siempre con amor!
PUH-LEEZE pardon the typos..but it’s me, and it goes with the territory. **sigh**
Buenas Noches!
SF: Your excitement is palpable and it spreads to those of us who aren’t there. Have the VERY BEST time! I’m so excited for all of you there and hope at least one of you takes pictures and videos and gives us a full account of the concert.
Have fun!
SF and Del Mar friends, give David enough love for all of us back here too! Keep us posted if you can! It’s tour time again!!!
To SF, and those of you blessed folks seeing and hearing David in Del Mar, I hope you are all mesmerized and hypnotized by the glory that is David Archuleta! I can’t wait for all your recaps! ENJOY!
