Making “Contact”
An A-Ha Moment

"We are the way for the Cosmos to know itself." Carl Sagan
I recently saw for the fourth or fifth time the movie Contact based on Carl Sagan’s 1985 novel of the same name. I remember reading the book when it came out, as astronomy and the mysteries of the universe have been a lifelong interest of mine.
For those not familiar, Carl Sagan was an American astronomer, astrophysicist and author who passed away in 1996. He was a Pulitzer Prize winner and author of many bestsellers, including Cosmos, which became the bestselling science book ever published in English. The accompanying Emmy and Peabody award-winning PBS television series has been seen by a billion people in sixty countries. His ability to capture the imagination of billions and to explain difficult concepts in understandable terms was and continues to be a magnificent achievement.
So, I was watching Contact and it was near the end that I was jolted into one of those super aware moments .… you know the kind where time stands still and your senses are on high alert, where you say “A-Ha” because you have just had a blinding flash of clarity. What jolted me was the point in the movie when an explanation of an experience that had no concrete evidence that it occurred was made by the protagonist, Eleanor (Ellie) Arroway. She says at a Congressional hearing:
I was given something wonderful, something that changed me forever. A vision of the universe that tells us undeniably…how rare and precious we are. A vision that tells us we belong to something that is greater than ourselves, that we are not, that none of us are alone.
I had an experience. I can’t prove it. I can’t even explain it. But everything I know as a human being, that I am, tells me that it was real.
I wish I could share that. I wish that everyone, if even for one moment, could feel that awe…and hope. That continues to be my wish.
Rascal wrote last year at notingDavid that Mr. David Archuleta’s artistry opens a “portal” to the universe. His post rang true, but I just had difficulty getting my mind completely around its meaning. Now, yes, the A-Ha has happened. For in Contact, Ellie’s explanation of her non-empirical experience fleshes out metaphorically in a relatively few sentences, what I have experienced on this David fan journey. (So, too Happy’s exquisite description of her experience at TriBeCa’s PC Richard and Sons Theater last week gives tremendous insight.)
And, as Ellie leaves the Congressional hearing she sees supporters with handmade signs. Signs that say: “Open Our Minds, Open Our Universe.” A-Ha…Open Our Minds, Open Our Universe—simple truth.
So, too, when I listen to the pure and beautiful voice of David Archuleta. David the-master-artist. That voice brimming with the subtleties of what it is to be alive. That voice that catapults one instantaneously to plumb the depths of so many emotions, so many vistas and landscapes that one didn’t expect to experience in a song. That voice that relentlessly draws one’s aesthetic sensibilities to the sublime.
I experience something that I can’t prove empirically, that I struggle to explain.
Happy wrote in a recent comment that artists give and the art appreciator takes. So, I take, I take. I take away an awe, a heightened awareness of connection and of the joy of the human experience and of the universe, of being a part of something rare and precious. I think that is what Rascal meant about being a “portal” to the universe, at least for me.

And to meet each of you in that universe that we cannot prove empirically, that universe of connection, is an unexpected joy. The conduit is, of course, the music and the voice of David Archuleta.
P.S. – Visit www.carlsagan.com. It is mind expanding. One sentence there above all others caught my attention:
Most of all, we hope to touch you with the soaring spiritual high that comes from grasping science’s central revelation – our oneness with the cosmos.
-kizzi
kizzi -- what a great article on our connectiveness -- to the universe and especially to one another at TDC.
I am still amazed -- more than a year later -- how it feels like yesterday when I started on this journey and then found a second home at ND and then I moved along with all of you to our new home at TDC. Although I am a rather silent family member, thanks to the encourgement of a few other family members, I am s l o w l y coming out of my shell:). Other than my son, I don’t get this much love and support from my real life family! David is a powerful force for bringing people together and and our love of who he is and his voice connects us universally.
I am a strong believer in the last quote in your article:
“Most of all, we hope to touch you with the soaring spiritual high that comes from grasping science’s central revelation -- our oneness with the cosmos.”
I am now off to visit the web site -- thank you for sharing it!
wow kizzi…. a-ha, indeed. I need to rush… off to work, but this article is a gem, like David.
“That voice brimming with the subtleties of what it is to be alive. That voice that catapults one instantaneously to plumb the depths of so many emotions, so many vistas and landscapes that one didn’t expect to experience in a song. That voice that relentlessly draws one’s aesthetic sensibilities to the sublime.”
a-ha, I could re-read that sentence all day, it’s so beautiful and well said, kinda like the author (hugs)
Connecting w/fans virtually has enhanced my connectedness to David and his artistry. Great article!
Speaking of the Cosmos, David apparently will meet us in the Cazmo-a virtual world that has been visited by N. Bedingfield, Soulja Boy, etc.
Tweet from 20 min ago.
David Archuleta is coming to Cazmo too … just got word he can handle space travel and will be visiting soon!,/i> http://www.planetcazmo.com/
Kizzi, great article! I love Carl Sagan’s Contact (the novel, more than the film). I like both film and book, but I had more of an epiphany with the book when Ellie discovers the “divine” through an equation of pi.
It was pretty deep.
And I totally agree that, with David, you can have the same sense of awe and wonder. You listen to David sing, and you’re one with the universe. In fact, whatever doubts you ever have about divine existence is removed (at least for me).
I didn’t get to read everything yesterday, but it looks like David won’t be graduating with his class this year!
http://www.archuletafans.com/David-Archuleta-Already-Serving-A-Mission-t27622.html
Yeah, he earned $1.3 million, but I was hoping a high school diploma also went with his earnings -- he was a straight A student after all.
Kizzi, your thoughts are deep and probably absolutely true, but after watching David’s interview at Deseret News first thing in the morning, I have but one thought -- I wanna be a grey t-shirt.
LORD HAVE MERCY KIZZI!!! Thanks for your beautiful words. I have been at a loss in the past trying to explain “it” to my family/friends. I don’t even try anymore -- they have given up on me (as have I on them). And that is fine on both sides.
What I feel when I hear his voice is beyond what words could ever convey. It is to be felt, not understood.
HG -- it is a total bummer that he isn’t graduating.
Valbraz -- yeah. Who else can rock a simple tee suchly?
Clearly, I was born in the wrong year. GOSH!
Great Post Kizzi, and the timing was very interesting for me personally.
Last night I was on the phone for hours talking with a friend about our “favorite subject” and what struck me right smack dab in the middle of our conversation was how I was thinking of her as such a good friend and conversing with her as if she were someone I had known since childhood, completely in sync with one another almost to the point of being able to complete each other’s sentences.
This is a person who is a friend of a friend of mine that I was introduced to at a David concert. I met friend #1 at a David concert and ironically, friend #1 met this friend at a David concert as well. I then in turn introduced another one of my friends , who I also met at a David concert, to these friends and…….well I think we’d need John Madden to make a diagram of the lineup beyond this point, but what I’m driving at is how connected this group of relative strangers have become with one another and how profound it is to be part of this inexplicable experience.
Someone made a compilation video of David’s performances using a special effect of a galaxy of stars swirling around over his head. When I looked at that image I was immediately struck with the impression that those specks of light represented all of us who have been drawn to him and his special gift.
A-Ha…
Kizzi..I was waiting for this post..
Carl Sagan’s Contact in one of my favorite books and I’ve watched the movie many times. The ending gives me chills every time I watch it, when Ellie pleads…
“I was given something wonderful, something that changed me forever.
That continues to be my wish.”
Many of us can say this very thing after that wonderful moment when David found a permanent place in our hearts. It is hard to explain, but it does continue to be my wish for everyone to “experience” David.
Sometimes I wish my friends and family would understand what it is about David simply because it’s a wonderful thing I just wish I could SHARE with them. As Bliss once told me (and I hope he won’t mind I quote him)….we’re the lucky ones who’ve been sprinkled with pixie dust!!
And Valbrez, Whoa! that grey t-shirt…YES…what a look he has on his face …. what a FACE period!
kizzi…An inspirational article and one I will need to read again when all is quiet…I just came here from clicking the SEND with my first article…This has been a most relaxing reading time…
Good morning everyone. Just checking in for a second. Thanks for the supportive comments.
Yes, archiesfan4life -- the connection is a very large part of the experience
Refnaf {{{hugs}}}
desertrat -- thanks for the planetcazmo link
HG -- yes, the pi plot in the book is deep and fun to explore conceptually
valbraz -- i hope you do find it true
FunnyGirl -- yes, to your experience. And to put the experience into words continues to be a motivation for me
Joner -- there is no coincidence; wonderful story

sandybeaches -- i look forward to your article
Kizzi..I loved your post when it was “leaked” and I love it now too and was very anxious for it to come up..but honestly, for a while I thought I had imagined or dreamt it. Thing is I’m not smart enough or have such a vivid imagination to dream up such a beautiful post!
See you all later!
Pulling this over from the last thread for the dayreaders:
In light of the above posted video ~ the Tour CD provided as a souvenir to all our friends was truly a labor of love.
Many have said it was a labor of love by Abrra, Knotliser, Marlie and myself, when it fact, it was David who has given us all his heart and soul.
As a group, we’ve decided that the funds collected for these CDs will be rolled out into David’s Charities.
One of the charities we have decided to donate to is RisingStar Outreach “The Path of Hope Project” ~ we will purchase a brick on behalf of The David Chronicles.
We thank you again, for your kind words and appreciation, but lets remember what David is really about.
He’s made me a better person, and I hope he’s done the same for you.
Kizzi, thanks for a heartfelt, poetic article. I was very moved by the subtle truth of everything you said.
In order to “get” David, one must allow him in. You can’t feel a cool breeze indoors unless you open the window and let it in. We aren’t just the “lucky” ones, we are the ones with the open windows. David’s healing and soothing powers are unleased into the spiritual atmosphere for all to benefit. Now, it’s true, David is very powerful, and he will urge and assist people whose hearts are closed to “let go” and allow him in. This is especially true of us “older” folks who have had years of this world weighing on us, and, cause some to fold up their tents and lock down. Even the all powerful David can’t reach them unless they give him some room to enter their hearts.
Like all of you here, I have been amazed at the people, who I thought I knew so well in my personal life, thinking that David is just a young, good looking guy with a nice voice who sang “Imagine” very well on American idol. To me, and to all of you, it is so obvious that David Archuleta, the kid from Utah, is actually a link to all that is good and nourishing about this world and this life. Listen to your body when he sings. My body tells me I’m “onboard” by engulfing me in chills and, at times, releasing my tear ducts when David sings or when he’s just talking or sitting. Sometimes we need reactions that we can see in the material world to convince us that what we feel is real.
Although David is available to everyone, he is not “for ” everyone. You have to let him in. David has a key for every locked heart, but each person must turn that key to see what’s inside. For some, that prospect is just too scary. Not everyone is as brave as “the kid who sang ‘Imagine’ on American idol”.
Bliss ~~~~ “David has a key for every locked heart”
You continue to make water leak from my eyes.
Hey peeps! I just got back from the eye doc to get new frames for my son (he broke them lol) and I have THE BEST story to share!
I know the ladies there well as I used to work there and my son did vision therapy there for a few years. I was showing a pic (on my Ipod) of my oldest son to the one lady (she is older with college-age kids) because she hadn’t seen him in a long time. So I decide to show her a pic of David and tell her he’s my adopted son….so she laughs and says “WOW he’s handsome, but what? adopted?” I then say “do you know who he is?” and she says “no” so I tell her he’s from AI last season. She hadn’t watched. So I tell he’s FABULOUS so she says “can you play something for me right now?” (LOL does she know who’s she’s dealing with??) So I whip up IMAGINE for her and say “listen to this -- it is the night that America fell in love with him” so she starts to listen. She shows me goosebumps on her arm, then she gets really quiet and she starts to get tears in her eyes and starts to cry. Then she says “Oh My God, what just happened? I can’t even believe this…Can I buy this song” so I tell her no but she can watch it on youtube and I tell her I’ll send her the link. So she says “Does he have an album out?” So I say “yes -- I’ll send you all the info -- give me your e-mail” so she RUNS to her desk and gives it to me!
ARCHUCONVERTS for the win!!! I am so happy and stoked and pumped! I love it when that happens -- it doesn’t happen often -but when it does -- OHMY I am just ELATED!
FunnyGirl…and she will tell a freind, then she will tell a friend and the snowball effect will go on for ever!!!! That was great…!!!
bliss…wonderful reply to read…loved it…
oh MAN FG ~~ your sharing of this story ~ I got goosebumps and tears just reading it ~ YES honey ~ we know what just happened.
Please tell her to strap herself in ~ she’s in for the ride of her life. lol
OK, So now David is singing in Arksanas at a shareholder annual meeting at 7 AM tomorrow morning.
I don’t get it.
You’d think his “Corporate Event” days would be over.
My company is WAY larger than Walmart ~ I should see if he can come sing for us.
I’m just kidding of course ~ not about the size of my company ~ but about David singing.
That crap is beneath him ~ he’s a STAH ~ I wish he’d finally be recognized as one.
If someone pulls “exposure” ~ out of their pocket ~ I will slap your hand.
This has absolutely nothing to do with exposure and everything to do with who you know.
Poor David ~ does this guy NOT deserve a couple weeks uninterrupted DOWN time?
Crikey ~ I feel a boycott on the horizon.
LOL! I almost laughed out loud when the lady said “what just happened?” Used his words and cried upon 1st hearing -- she’s gonna be toast. I hope she forgives me. ODD is a beast.
FunnyGirl, you win this week’s Tinkerbell award. Tick, tick tick….
bliss -- what is the Tinkerbell award? like, for spreading pixie dust?
bliss -- I often think about the listener, the “allow(ing) him in” part. Sometimes we hear the same thing over and over and then one day, presto! we get it. It was right in front of our face, side by side in our environment but we didn’t hear it. Funny, that part of being human. Open our minds, open our universe.
Frankly, I believe his age is a huge obstacle for many. We have many myths and detractors in terms of our cultural mores about youth here in the USA and I am sure in other countries to a greater or lesser degree.
And I think that because he is a singer and that his music is the schmaltzy romantic type of music, that just exponentially magnifies the age issue. Why does an 18 year old R&B/Soul/Pop singer have a relatively seasoned, mature segment of his fan base so devoted? Isn’t that what the naysayers and eye rollers ask periodically? think? question? in our circle of friends and acquaintances?
And, it has been a challenge for me to be a fan of a 17/18 year old, my life is full and I have been so fortunate and so blessed…I question myself, the enigma of why I am a fan as I am not enamored to many aspects of fandom…and I come up with answers that fill in a piece of the puzzle, that suffice for a while and once I am through digesting them, I am off to search for another puzzle piece.
And, the answer, in part, that “it is the art, the music, the song, that draw my aesthetic sensibilities to the sublime,” not the age of the individual, is big part of the puzzle. Thus, I think, why I participate on this blog.
So, haha, when I get to my final “A-HA” I’ll let you know. It should qualify as the million dollar answer, no doubt about it! LOL!
If anyone had any doubts as to whether David is the SOUL man of Utah -- he twittered “Go ahead, Mr. Wendel”.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EefdFSrfhu8&eurl=http%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Esnarkyarchies%2Ecom%2F&feature=player_embedded
Well, dawn65, I’ll say it. “Exposure.” I can take a hand slap.
And, if it is true, still wondering, Smokey Robinson is reportedly appearing too; Smokey who is in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, who has a Lifetime Grammy Achievement Award. That’s not bad ExPoSuRe to be on the same bill as Smoky Robinson.
Oh, and Smokey Robinson wrote “Shop Around” with Berry Gordy and performed it with “The Miracles.”
And, well, Walmart is in 15 countries (under different names though). They employ 2.1 million associates worldwide and had sales of $401 Billion in 2009. Wal-Mart ranked first among retailers in Fortune Magazine’s 2009 Most Admired Companies survey.
Doesn’t sound like a bad deal to me.
Off this great topic…
I don’t know how to say this without sounding negative, but what I thought could happen is starting to happen. They are offering discounted tickets for the Duluth and Little Rock (so far)venues at $14.99. I look for some of the other venues to follow suit. I have a very strong feeling the tickets that are being purchased are by David’s fans as the sold out VIPs indicate. I don’t know…maybe this is a normal thing they do at the start of summer for the summer tours? Please, someone tell me I’m worrying for nothing. But at the same time, no one can change my mind about me thinking David “opening” for Demi was not a good idea.
Oh gosh I could go on and on about your wonderful post, Kizzi. I love it. I will spare all a full-blown blitherbomb—but I love Sagan and appreciate the parallel between Sagan’s revelations via a lifetime of dazzling cosmic discoveries and OUR revelations via at first seemingly unrelated yet actually uncannily linked and equally dizzying discovery — the empirically unprovable yet undeniable (to us, anyway!) depths, gifts, gravitational pull and POWER of David, and the portal he leads us to. [/end mini-blither]
{{dawn}} Beautiful tribute vid!
{{abrra}} Merry-Go-Rounds FTW! REO Speedwagon…wheeeeee!
{{FunnyGirl}} YESSSSSSSSSSSSSS! Loooove your story! Spread that Archu_Loooove (
poor,er, lucky woman. lol){{bliss}} LOL “The Tinkerbelle Award” (love it!)
Oh, and Mister Wendal FTW!
FYI re. Walmart:
http://walmart.nwanews.com/wm_story.php?paper=adg&storyid=261139
Shareholders’ week includes a typical line-up of big-name music stars, though admission is limited mostly to Wal-Mart employees and shareholders.
Tuesday night’s bill featured country duo Sugarland and three-time Grammy award-winner country star Brad Paisley. Tonight, Daughtry, led by vocalist and former American Idol finalist Chris Daughtry, will share the stage with classic rockers Foreigner.
FunnyGirl--Exactly!! We can call it “Archudust” now.
Kizzi, I believe that in order to change and/or grow we must suspend our previous notions and stereotypes that we become comfortable believing as “true.” Most of them were just misconceptions spoon fed to us by our parents, and we had no choice but to assume they were truths (Our parents wouldn’t lie to us, would they (LOL)).
David’s age and appearance belie his development ,both emotionally and spiritually. He fits the stereotype of a good looking, young teen idol, which means that he is not to be taken seriously as anything but that. To the uninitiated and unenlightened, that is all they will ever see and will dismiss him as a modern day Bobby Sherman or Bobby Vee. That’s where the eye rolling comes in. Because they don’t see anything else, they assume there is nothing else to see, so you and I must have some other weird agenda in order to think otherwise. Spiritually enlightened people are usually seen as old guys with beards. It is a mistake to link wisdom with age. Just think how many “old fools” we all know who haven’t had an original thought in their lives, and never will.
Some people still tell me that David is “just a ballad singer”. What part of “Zero Gravity” don’t they get? Who cares? I’m still recovering from seeing him last Thursday and looking forward to seeing him again in a few weeks.
Hey all, I haven’t read anything yet so I don’t know if this has been posted yet, but David appears to be on all of the flags for the Twitter poll. I have click on several so far and he has been on them all.
I haven’t had internet access at home and was just now able to get some internet time at work…these people want me to work when I have better things to do…lol
dawn65 -- That video is a work of love….thank you, thank you…
The desert news video…. David just being David… I am so impressed and humbled by him.
dawn your video and this interview has brought me to tears….
“And, well, Walmart is in 15 countries (under different names though). They employ 2.1 million associates worldwide and had sales of $401 Billion in 2009. Wal-Mart ranked first among retailers in Fortune Magazine’s 2009 Most Admired Companies survey.”
yeah .. okay cool, my company is still way bigger, 130 countries. So I’m gonna put in my request tomorrow.
Kizzi -- That is one of my favorite books and movie…. have watched repeatedly.
I had an experience. I can’t prove it. I can’t even explain it. But everything I know as a human being, that I am, tells me that it was real.
I wish I could share that. I wish that everyone, if even for one moment, could feel that awe…and hope. That continues to be my wish.
This is what I feel…. why does David make me feels this, I don’t know and I don’t care.. I’ve embraced this journey for the long haul.
bliss --
My body tells me I’m “onboard” by engulfing me in chills and, at times, releasing my tear ducts when David sings or when he’s just talking or sitting. Sometimes we need reactions that we can see in the material world to convince us that what we feel is real.
You have a way with words….. I need a wrench to turn of this faucet you’ve unleased.
SF “They are offering discounted tickets for the Duluth and Little Rock (so far)venues at $14.99″
THAT right there is truly sad.
Maybe we can all request that David do private corporate events for each of us.
As long as we’re burning him out and all.
On the heels of last night’s interview ~ the bashing he’s getting for not going on a true “mission” ~ the fact he was unable to finish high school and walk with his class ~ the fact that most of his closest friends have taken departure for paths unknown ~ makes me feel tremendously sorry for him.
I know many of you think this was his choice, and he’s living his dream ~ but I won’t pretend that his heart doesn’t ache over these sacrifices.
And for that ~ my heart hurts for him.
Push harder David ~ you aren’t running the race fast enough so it seems.
SF ~ I just got an email ~ Wilkes Barre is also discounted to $14.99. I pay more for socks 8(
I apologize for sounding so lame ~
I just really feel bad for him right now.
He hardly gets any time off.
When he talked about his writer’s block, I thought back to his SA interview ~ when he said he does that better alone, when there’s nothing on his mind.
Which he is really not afforded~ so then he feels it’s a weakness.
I can’t change his perspective ~ I wish I could change mine
Kizzi -- I always love to read what you have to say. These words did it for me…
“So, too, when I listen to the pure and beautiful voice of David Archuleta.
I experience something that I can’t prove empirically, that I struggle to explain.”
It is a puzzle and I spend a lot of time tryng to figure it out. LOL
As for David’s corporate appearance, I have attended some events (Oracle World) where very big names are on the evening agenda. It’s good exposure, especially since these people will definitely not be tweens.
Just adding my two cents on Corporate events -- a few years ago for my company’s 50th anniversary, Earth, Wind and Fire played!! It was awesome! Then two years ago LeeAnn Rhimes (spelling?)performed.
archiesfan , I think it’s more of a timing thing. That is what seems to be bothering me the most. He has a huge summer thing getting ready to launch. I think I read 90 days. That’s a pretty long stretch, and he’s supposed to be piecing together the Christmas album and writing for the second CD?
Gosh ~ mother hen I guess ~ I wish he could have had just a few weeks.. living the life that’s most important to him ~
dawn -- I completely agree with you. I am really sad that he will not be graduating with his class -- he worked hard for many years and was a great student. And he seems to be so relaxed and happy spending some much needed time with his family and friends.
I think we should be careful not to impose our own feelings on David. How do we know how he feels about the graduation? As I’ve said before, while his friends were going through senior year, admittedly something to remember, David was touring the world, something to REALLY remember. I’m not about to feel sorry for him. He’ll get his diploma when he wants it bad enough or when he needs it. For now, he is singing, oh, my is he ever singing. And that, according to him, is the one thing he’s wanted to do more than anything else.
The Walmart event is a rumor. Unless it has been confirmed by David’s peeps in the last few hours, it is just a rumor.
Does anyone know if discounting tickets for almost nothing a normal thing? Or are they trying to jump start slow ticket sales for these venues? If the latter is the case, then the Louisville Venue may be added to those venues who are offering discounts.
Does anyone know how Demi’s VIP ticket sales are doing? Have any venues s/o for her VIPs? I’m curious to know how her VIP sales compare to David’s.
IMO Demi was never big enough for the size venues the summer tour was booked for. I was shocked… Alot of people out of work, times are tough. I guess they thought adding David may help- and I am sure it did and suspect 1/2 or more the people will be there for him. In my opinion they should never have had Demi scheduled to play those large venues. She is no HM/MC or JB. If I recall correctly, her tour was already planned when David was added as special guest. Too bad as “on sale” tixs not a good thing. Hope the tour does not lose money. But I cannot wait for our acoustic private concert and the M & G…worth every penny.
Dawn your tribute video is wonderful!
Kizzi, great article!
rae “But I cannot wait for our acoustic private concert and the M & G…worth every penny.”
I am right with you there
21 days til my first one
I SWEAR ~ there is a higher power somewhere working on me .. just now on my yahoo front page ..
http://finance.yahoo.com/career-work/article/107139/CEOs-Without-College-Degrees?mod=career-leadership
yipee ~~ cause David is his OWN CEO
This is totally unrelated to the Walmart rumour (?) for David but today I read in the AM NY paper that Miley Cyrus just signed a closthing line deal with Walmart. Haha
In case anyone is intered David’s xrank on MSN is moving on up! He’s #75 for musician and #98 for celebrity.
Kizzi, your writing is inspirational. Loved reading your article, and will read it again to make sure I didn’t miss anything.
I long since stopped trying to explain my ODD. I know that listening to David sing connects me to the divine. But explaining that to someone is not good enough, words would not suffice. Part of it comes from him being so young, and the other because he comes from American Idol. He has a couple of strikes against him, but none of that matters to me. I know what I feel and I am so past the notion of caring about what others feel or don’t feel.
I am not going to get into David’s head about graduation. I wish he could have found a way. I just saw my own beautiful daughter off to her prom. I am sure Lupe would have loved to have seen David in a tux with a corsage in his hand to give to his date. She will have other things to equal that I am sure. I anticipate that she would have loved to see David walk across the stage and receive his diploma with his peers, but since it is not going to happen I will relegate that to the purview of those who it will directly affect. Maybe some day he will find the time. We all knew that this was a possibility, so while we mourn what David is missing, we should rejoice in what he has already accomplished and not negate it.
Kiz- love love this piece. I’m not really sure when my AHA moment occurred. It started with surprised admiration of his audition and then probably it was the total joy I felt after Shop Around. Man…I thought… this kid has it all and I can’t get enough of him cause I feel so good when he sings. Interest turned to passion as each genre he presented had soo much to offer my soul. The biggest AHA moment came at my 3rd Idol concert..up really close. An electric charge went through me during Angels and that sealed the deal. I have been surprised that the level of my enthusiasm has remained so high, so dedicated. This is not typical of me. I also know better than to question it. As long as I see David perform every few weeks, and so far that’s happened and will continue, I’m just very happy to ride the Archutrain wherever it takes me. I am also very grateful for all the dedicated David fans who supply the links to what’s goin’ on. What a ride. love it, love it.
Silverfox -- I feel your pain about the reduced ticket prices and I agree that one of reasons that the tickets that have sold so far may largely be due to David being on the roster. I think it will be very interesting to see how the venues “clear out” after David is done performing.
I personally have subscribed to mailing lists of several ticket sources and am getting e-mails every day offering “specials” or “last minute reductions” on ticket prices for many concerts. I think this has everything to do with our economy being depressed right now.
I noticed that the usual headliners like Kelly Clarkson have redirected themselves to State Fairs and such to reduce ticket prices and make their concerts more affordable.
The reality of this situation is that bad sales are going to be attributed moreso to Demi Lovato than to David because she is the headliner.
Marlie#43:
“I think we should be careful not to impose our own feelings on David. How do we know how he feels about the graduation?”
In the interview I linked to on my blog, David is quoted as saying “I really want to [earn my high school diploma] but it’s hard.”
That’s what I base my disappointment on -- David’s own wish to complete his diploma but not having the time to. Seriously, if I had known he was having a hard time, I would have gladly volunteered my teaching services to help him finish.
Well, as if I had to say that, right?
David will always keep a good attitude about it all, but I wish he could at least complete his GED.
Aw! I thought this was cute -- the Golden Archies 1 year anniversary tribute video.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vgBIrkbKfP8
Loving the video tributes, Dawn, Abrra. You’re reminding me it’s been a while since I’ve done one of my own. Of course, I need inspiration (when I’m in a better mood and not all bummed about David missing graduation).
SF, if summer tix are not selling well, I don’t think it has anything to do with David. As Joner already said, Demi is not a big arena type artist, AND let me also add that, contrary to what Jive/Azoff thinks (or whoever it was who planned this concert), David’s appeal does lean toward a very different set than the kind of audience that would rush to see a Demi Lovato. It is what it is, and I could have told the jokers who planned this tour that Demi and David are NOT a good match, especially when placing David as the “opening” act. In whose world does that even make any kind of musical or fiscal sense? JMHO.
kizzi -- your writing, all kinds of wonderfulness! Nothing I can add that hasn’t already been said, but I just love your thought process!
Bliss -- looove the Tinkerbell Award, and if anyone deserves it, FG does!
I’m not all that concerned about discount tickets. I remember while David was selling out his solo tour, there was a tour consisting of three or four successful pop singers, solo and bands,(I wish I could remember who they were, but alas, my feeble memory cannot recall); anyway, they were having trouble selling enough tickets to make it profitable and then started selling at a discount. I don’t know if this is the case here, but would imagine it happens all the time, we just aren’t aware because we have never been compelled to care before.
IDK, I am kinda liking the Walmart thing. He’ll get paid, right? Maybe make some connections, lead to…endorsements? You cannot meet him and not love him.
(one last note -- said it before, but have to say it again, love the new haircut!)
HG #53:
I really want to get organized, but its hard. LOL. I think if David really wanted to earn his diploma NOW, and it was his highest priority, he’d have done it. He’s making trade-offs. That’s the nature of life. I still don’t feel sorry for a kid who has traveled all over the US, to Asia, the UK, and played before 52,000 people in Manila, and who has met the people he has met.
Marlie, it’s the price of fame. But, I value education, as I’m sure David does, and he will most likely get his diploma. I’m just saddened that this had to be the trade-off. I’m a teacher so… I’m inclined to put the diploma before travels and touring, especially since his entire music career is going to be about that anyway.
Where’s a private tutor when you need one? Can’t he borrow Miley Cyrus’s? Or maybe Miranda Cosgrove’s if hers is cheaper?
I am not that fussed about David not completing his education (HS) right now. I was reading the comments on The Deseret News and wow! are they judgmental, ranging from David not completing a “real” mission (pardon me while I throw up), to not completing his high school diploma. His schedule has been punishing and it’s probably difficult for him to find time to sleep.
Also, the music business is unforgiving. I have said the same thing to people of his faith who criticize him for not going a two-year formal mission. A Mormon kid gone for two years is not making money for his label. Also, he is learning so much and giving so much to others that he’s been on a mission for at least a year now. Finally, I frankly don’t think he can afford to take breaks for education or religion at this point of his career, at least for awhile.
I was really hoping that David could have at least attended or at least sung at his class’ graduation, but looks like the Wal-Mart gig makes that impossible. I wonder when he found out about the Wal-Mart booking.
I imagine you’re right freo ~ David won’t even get to attend ceremonies for friends?
I can’t say, because I DON’T know, but traveling the world and meeting famous folk may just be a coup associated with his job ~ on a value based level ~ I think graduating with his friends ~ being around his family ~ are much more valuable gifts for David.
But then again ~ I’m just speculating. Which I shouldn’t do. Money and fame doesn’t buy you happiness…. just sayin.
One more point I must raise here. I’m amazed that those of us who express concern or disappointment that David had to delay graduation to pursue his music career are expected to think that international touring and non-stop promotions, which come with David’s debut album, is a worthy trade off. Forgive me, but no, I don’t see it that way. I really don’t. I’m not of the mindset that these things far outweigh completing a high school education.
Moreover, as if I have to be told what David accomplished this year. I follow David’s career as closely as anyone here. I’m very clear what David accomplished this year, and forgive me for not thinking that his earning of $1.3 million makes up for his not finishing his high school education on time. Sorry, I just don’t subscribe to that philosophy. But then, you are talking to someone who spent years earning a PhD when I could have entered a much more lucrative profession. The current market we’re living in would tell me I wasted my time.
I am confident that David will complete his high school diploma soon. Maybe he will even do the online course option instead of the GED. It’s too bad because he was in college placement classes in high school that he was not able to continue the online course option due to time constraints.
I don’t think I’ve ever shared that I’ve had a talk with Jeff about this. Jeff shared how David really did like school and wanted to even go to college, but time-wise it was just impossible. He asked me if a GED would hold water with any colleges. I told him that certainly people go to colleges with GED, and tried to give him general advice.
When did he find out about the Wal-Mart booking? When they said they would bundle his first CD with a bonus track and sell ALOT of copies of it for him at an AFFORDABLE price…LOL
HG, I definitely hear what you saying and agree. My thought is that in the eyes of the music industry, that doing the education was perhaps not an option for David. Someone taking a break to do education would not be making money for the label. I’ve heard that the music industry is ruthless and it’s sad, but I wonder if he had no choice to pursue the music alone for the time being given his contract constraints and bookings.
Does anyone know if Jordin is completing her education? Or Demi?
Speaking of Miley..I can’t buh-leeve I’m gonna say this, but if David HAD to “open” for a teen star, I would have preferred he open for Miley, or heck, even the JB’s! GOSH…did I really just say that!!?? But it is all about exposure to the teens, right? Isn’t that the direction Jive wants David to go?
Just because times are tough does not mean some teen artist’s tours will not be S/O. The JB’s, Taylor Swift and Miley’s are all doing very well. On the other hand, because times ARE tough, it does mean concert goers will be choosy about who they will pay to see. I may be wrong as I’m not up to speed on teen stars, but is Demi in the above teen star’s league? It just seems to be that the tours overseas was a huge step forward..just to come home and to take two steps back especially after his S/O solo tour here..so what if it was all smaller venue cuz with the right promotion he could have done it again..s/o as a headliner this time at seated venues. IMHO.
David’s fans are buying tickets like crazy. VIP tickets, upgrades, traveling across the country, some more than once. These are David’s fans who will do everything and anything for David because the reward of seeing & hearing David is so worth it. David’s fans who are so diverse, in age, race & gender, will go to a teen concert without fear of ridicule and strange looks from the tweens/teens JUST to hear David sing ten songs!
This is our committment to David. We are here for the long haul..unconditionally forever! We will do right by David, and all we want is for Jive & Azoff to do the same.
Freo, I heard that Jordin completed her GED (I think she got home-schooled or had a tutor). I’m not saying David should have gone back to high school -- that in and of itself would have been surreal. But, private schooling with a tutor, I wonder if that couldn’t have been worked out somehow?
Not to mention, this is nothing new. Show biz has always worked with child stars, and they’ve always had to work out schooling -- especially considering child labor laws requiring this anyway. Even though David is of legal age where he could make decisions on his own about schooling, I’m just wondering how this could have been worked out, even with the grueling schedule. This is why STAGE PARENTS need to earn their reputation as stage parents, in managing their kids’ schooling and entertainment career. Who knows? From your conversation with Jeff, though, it sounds like he himself is new to it all and wasn’t in a position to advise David on the best way to balance these things.
I think if David’s schedule was a little more lax ~ he might just be able to multitask. I can’t even sit down and count the number of “days” he’s had off in the last year.
The summer tour with Demi? He could have done half the shows.
There are a lot of things the mgmt team could have passed on.
iCarly and HM didn’t seem to do squat for album sales or growth of fanbase.
He should move to the Philippines ~ they treat him so much better than we do … yeah yeah yeah …I know.. but STILL ..
Somehow in the back of my mind AND heart I imagine ~ David doesn’t have to play the marketing game. I truly want to believe his rare gift, unmatched talent, and genuine grace will take him very far.
I don’t recall anyone ever asking David ~ how he measures success. Is it a platinum album? Is it seeing the world? Is it being respected by his peers?
The only concrete fact I can latch onto at this point … is David wanted to sing ~ because it made people feel good.
He’s like my own kid in some sense ~ it’s no different with David than it is with my own grown children ~ no matter how happy and successful they are ~ when they make sacrifices ~ I feel the pain ~ all 25 1/2 years and counting.
I remember after the finale of season 7 my work did a story about the emotional impact of the show. And, I remember when the pompous PhD, informing all the watchers, that this was a momentary situation and everyone will forget about Archuleta when the new season comes around. I remember thinking; what an idiot.
Those words spoken by Ellie sums it up perfectly. I couldn’t explain it, but I knew something wonderful happened and it was real and beautiful and I wanted to share it with everyone.
Thank you Kizzi for your wonderful words.
HG, I believe I understand your take on David not graduating, seeing that education is your life
I am sorry to see that this is one of the things that David has had to sacrifice to get to where he is now. I think it may upset David just a little too. David seems to be the kind of person who likes to see things through. Remember, he squeezed out his Eagle project for boy scouts during a very hectic time also. I do believe education is important to David and in time will see it through.
Dawn- I love your video! it helps remind us a few of the many things on why we fell in love with David Archuleta. I hope you don’t mind, I posted a link over at LAF. I told you, I want to share David with everybody.
SF !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Allow me to relish in your post some ~ because
it was B R I L L I A N T D A W G !!!
We are here for the long haul..unconditionally forever! We will do right by David, and all we want is for Jive & Azoff to do the same. agreed says Dawn already subjecting herself to 5 shows of Demiblahvato
Good points, Dawn. I say *ducks for cover* if he had postponed the solo tour to the summer instead of doing this Demi tour, he may have had the time to squeeze in his education. But that’s just me, of course.
Oh well. Keeping my fingers crossed he’ll get his diploma sooner than later.
My comment (rant) was in response to the discounting of tickets for the Demi/David tour..
But I see we are talking about David not graduating. Very disappointed…for David. I think it would have been a very happy occasion and a great accomplishment for him considering he’s been out of the classroom for a year & a half or more.
And the Walmart event. Has that been confirmed..if not why are we speculating about it? If it has..well, I hope he gets paid LOTS & LOTS of Walmart money, cuz a lot of it came from ME!!
And, I remember when the pompous PhD, informing all the watchers, that this was a momentary situation and everyone will forget about Archuleta when the new season comes around. I remember thinking; what an idiot.
Well, Cutter, this PhD (hopefully not viewed as pompous) says that David Archuleta is here to stay!
oh cutter “Remember, he squeezed out his Eagle project for boy scouts during a very hectic time also. I do believe education is important to David and in time will see it through.” AHHH.. I’d briefly forgotten ~ but YES ~ THANK YOU for bringing that to the forefront because YES ~ it was important to David.
I’m so glad you like the video ~ I’m glad everyone is enjoying it.
I’m just tempertantruming right now (yes I know that’s not a word .. haha)
How bittersweet success can be.
Now I shall have to buy him more presents. Because I overcompensate ~ it’s what I do ~ my kids never complained ~ hahahahahahaha.
Yes SF .. Walmart is confirmed for tomorrow.
Yeah! I buy lots of dog & cat food, as well as cleaning supplies & paper goods at Walmart..that’s about it..but it adds up to alot since my dogs do love to eat! Do I like to shop at Walmart…NO. I do not!
HG #67, You said what I was thinking after talking with Jeff. I was a virtual stranger that he questioned, and he seemed thrown into a whirlwind and very green. When I told him I was a prof, he started asking me questions. I got the sense that everything was just a blur and very new.
And, I remember when the pompous PhD, informing all the watchers, that this was a momentary situation and everyone will forget about Archuleta when the new season comes around. I remember thinking; what an idiot.
And Season 9 auditions start next WEEK. Forgotten??
oh HARDLY ~ he’s just getting started.
pompous PhD that PhD doesn’t know the archangels ~ or how we roll ~ because we roll fast ~ in numbers ~ one community ~ standing strong ~ and PROUD.
Having gone the traditional HS to college to law school route and wishng had a few years to travel the world….I say,,,, Honey strke while that iron is hot. I believe had I been a bit older that would have gotten more out of college and appreciated what a priviledge that education is. He really had no choice but to work hard this year and probably for the next few to really get established in his career… the real love of his life….I am sure that David will complete GED/HS and college. He just has too much love of learning to not,,,
But his once in a lifetime chance came and he had to fan that flame. In a few years it will be burning bright and he can probably take some time to have some more balance in his life.
Just my thoughts.
HG- Nah, I only used that word to help distinguish between PhDs who know what they’re talking about and ones that blow alot of hot air.
Silverfox- snarkyArchies are posting twitters, that latest one saying “Guess who’s coming for Walmart Shareholders Fri? Michael Jordan, Kris Allen, David Archuleta, Smoky Robinson”
& @xosarahdawn, shareholder confirmed performers include Smoky Robinson, David Archuleta and Krss Allen.
So, it seems real enough, but doesn’t make much sense since David is to perform in Utah on Saturday. I hope those wal-mart ceos don’t wear him out. I’m going to the game on Saturday!
We are here for the long haul..unconditionally forever! We will do right by David, and all we want is for Jive & Azoff to do the same.
Dude, they already made David postpone his own high school graduation! After all that, they better make sure he’s got at least three chart-topping singles from his next album if they ever expect me to forgive them for this. Hmph!
HG- Tell them to back Zero Gravity and I’ll be happy.
Poor Jeff. Freo, I think that’s the most sympathy I’ve ever had for the guy. Thanks for sharing.
Cutter, Zero Gravity should at least be a start!
By The way- I am with you SF- David would have been better to open for Miley or JB who would fill the big venues… kids and PARENTS.
I cannot find confirmation of the Walmart Event. Still lots of rumors & speculation.
Anyway, if David can’t be at his class graduation as a participant or guest, then it may be good for him to have a gig elsewhere. Even though he is living his dream and doing what most kids his age can only dream of, I still think he would be ecstatic to be part of the Murray High Class of 2009.
My dream was just a dream..but I have so many dreams FOR David and they WILL come true..of that I am certain.
Good night all! For David..
Dear Lord,
Please take care of David. Watch over him, protect him from all harm. Cloak him with your love and give him the strength to endure all that is thrown in his path. Give David the courage and guidance to say no to those who ask for more than he can reasonably give. Surround David with loving and supportive people who love him UNCONDITIONALLY as we, his Archangels do. Separate David from those who have agendas other than for his well being. Give him rest when he’s weary. Give him the stamina to sustain his hectic pace. Give him assurance when he feels doubt. Give him joy when he feels sad. Cloak him always in your protective arms during this time on his journey. Keep David and and his voice healthy & strong as he fulfills his Destiny which was written in his Book of Life before he was born. And please Lord, give us, David’s forever fans, the wisdom to know when and how to do right by David. Open our eyes and help us in the way we support David so that it’s always in his best interests. May his positive and good Karma continue to attract those with positive and good Karma! May he continue to encounter goodwill and happiness! May he continue to be healthy and strong wherever his journey leads him. Though we may be unworthy, we humbly pray. Amen
David, hope you have a good night & sweet dreams. Keep with you all our love, prayers and warm thoughts! We will always love you madly! Contigo siempre con amor!
Raelovingangels, most people I know who travel the world before settling down to college and/or law school did so AFTER high school graduation. All I’m desiring for is what David desires: to just FINISH what he started (we’re talking about just one little ol’ year left). David is the type who will make it happen, so it’s not tragic or anything. Again, I’m just disappointed he couldn’t graduate with the class of 2009, that’s all. I’ll get over it, especially when David comes out with new music. And I’ll celebrate along with him and everyone else when he gets that dang diploma eventually.
“And I’ll celebrate along with him and everyone else when he gets that dang diploma eventually”
That would be one HUGE graduation party ~~~
I’m in !!!!!
Yes HG… I hear ya, I also hate that he missed that milestone….. And you love him and want him to have it all!
Graduation Party FTW!!!
I’ll bring the water and cookies ~ David can provide the music ~ what are you bringing ????
Nice way to end the night ~ thanks for letting me vent ~
I love you all.
I love David ~ and he WILL have it all !!!
On a goodnight note ~ I got my TDC shirt and button today ~ 20 sleeps ~ and I will be face to face with ….. HIM
ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
squeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
Yes, Rae, I do realize I want David to have it all. I hope he and his dad have some good savvy people working with them. I’m still thinking of what Freo said about Jeff seeming so green about the whole experience. He and David almost seem like “innocents abroad” in big bad LA. They’re getting by, but do they have someone working for them when getting into deals with the label and management?
I only say this because, as Dawn listed (btw, I love your avatar with David’s head thrown back that way), there were a number of things David was thrown into that didn’t always seem necessary. I hope they’ve got someone watching their back.
Sweet dreams, Dawn and SF! Oh, that reminds me. The other night I had David Dream #13 -- it’s been quite some time since I’ve had one of those. ha ha!
I was watching a rerun on TV -- “Touched by an Angel” of all things -- and in the show, David was part of a high school class raising money to keep their school choir going. I don’t remember the details, but David of course sang in the episode -- I want to say “Angels” but don’t remember.
Is it any wonder I wanted him to graduate with a dream like this? Or maybe there’s another interpretation…
Every choice eliminates other options. It’s not possible to have it all. David’s joyous face singing at a concert tells us all we need to know. Clearly he loves what he’s doing more than what he’s obliged to give up. No one can do it all--it’s impossible. And David’s wise enough to realize this. He’s not the sort to wring his hands about what might’ve been. He doesn’t anguish over these things--he rejoices in the opportunities he has.
On the Walmart thing. Walmart sells more music cds than any other music outlet and appearing at these events assures good treatment later at display counters. It’s all about promo for sales--like giving radio interviews.
Btw, is it actually true--the Walmart appearance? Some bloggers say it’s only rumored.
Bravo, Kizzi, for another one of your thought-provoking posts.
The mystery of this amazing artist continues to puzzle us. But with each new post, we come closer to an understanding, as one by one, we find pieces that fit the puzzle. I don’t think we’ll ever find all the pieces that fit, and I’m not sure that I even want to, but it sure is fun to try!
I truly feel blessed that I am among the group of people who ‘get’ David. For those who don’t, there’s the pity because life is so much sweeter with David in the world.
Here’s the thing; he doesn’t do anything but live his life as he believes, with the courage of his convictions. Yet at such a young age, is the owner of remarkable insight and the wisdom of someone much older. He shows this most often when he sings, but not just in the lyrics; rather in the depth of the emotions he brings to his songs. He sings of love and heartbreak, joy and peace, fear and loss, living in harmony and of being kind to one another. He sings about being brave and loyal and of understanding each other. He sings of being patient, facing the truth and of waiting for good things to happen; all things that we struggle with in our daily lives, at almost any age. And he sings with passion and joy and makes us believe on a gut level that life is worth the struggle.
A-Ha! No wonder we are addicted to David and his spell.
Re. the Walmart rumor, I believe something is up because the Archuleta camp is so quiet. David, Jeff or Richard could easily dispel this ‘rumor’. If he does perform there, my guess is that it will be via satellite. Hence, I don’t believe he will be there for a live performance.
The whole ‘Walmarchuleta’ (fact or fiction?) question became know to me oddly enough when I checked my cell blogs on my way to America’s favorite Ghettopian Superstore….aka Walmart. (GREAT clearance garden center) woo woo! Big UP’s to Walmart in that dept!
I decided to ask the near centenarian aged greeter about the possible DA appearnce, but (although Loved David), had no clue…
The cashier (a ripe 17 or so in age), did however have a little more insight on the topic. She informed me that this ‘rumor’ had been floating around the walmart rumor mill for the past few days, and only this evening (almost midnight 6/5) had she found out, to her delight, (literal giddiness transpired) that it was true!
Hopefully this info I received from this self proclaimed ‘Walmartian Insider’ proves to be accurate… Otherwise I will fear for her life! At least her life as a walmart cashier/informant.
BTW…Hey SF! Kizzy, loved the article. Absolutely On the Money!
HG#62 -- “…….you are talking to someone who spent years earning a PhD when I could have entered a much more lucrative profession. The current market we’re living in would tell me I wasted my time.”
Speaking for myself, I value every educator and their feelings. Not just for what they do but for all the sacrifices they have given to help others acheive their goals. It’s obvious they love what they do because it’s definitely not about the money. It can’t be. My son (EE) instructs at the UW part time for peanuts but he LOVES it. The fulfillment he has attained through his students accomplishments is everything. I don’t want to sound patronizing but honestly, thank you for all that you do.
raelovingangels . June 4, 2009 at 7:22 pm .
I have read every post on this thread. Your down to earth common sense has jumped off the page! Thank you for cutting through the drama. I have no comments on life experience (career) vs HS graduation. It was in the stars, that things turned out as they have.
Summer tour:
Did the promoters really think Demi/David have the fanbase to fill seats in the same places that the American Idol tour visited? I wondered what Demi’s previous track record for selling tickets might be. David had it right by going smaller for his first solo tour.
Kizzi
There is too much in my head about Contact/David. I lack the words to express how connected I am to David via his voice. I am never without his music. I carry amp3 player everywhere I go. David’s “portal” is for me portable.
Abrra
I just read over at Snarkies about the Fanbundle being released. I am disappointed to say that they have decided to release the STUDIO version of ZERO GRAVITY. Don’t get me wrong, any release of the song I want to happen, but I thought they would have given us either a LIVE performance or at least a re-recorded version. The song for me is missing my favorite parts and the EPIC ending.
pabuckie: I may be wrong, but I thought Mike told JR that it was not the demo version but a new mix studio version.
Thanks marlie7 -- at least if it’s a new mix studio version I hope it has the ending with ZEROOOOOOO ZERO GRAVITY. When I read studio version I just assumed it was the one we all have heard already. Just get the DANG song out there somehow I guess. haha
Been lurking again. About the Walmart appearance being confirmed. David’s last tweet on twitter --
“Went with some friends to a Relient K concert with Owl City opening. Really tired now though. Good night!”
This was on (Thu 04 Jun 22:42 via txt) or 10:42 pm for the non-military folks.
From what I understand the Walmart functions have always been early morning sessions starting around 7:00 am or so and ending around noon time. If this is true, I’m not sure how he’s going to make it there in time.
David went to a concert IN UTAH and went to bed very late. So unless he’s Superman and can FLY UP UP & AWAY to AR to be there this AM..well, OK, yes I do know David is a SUPER MAN, but…
Oh HEY Jessie!! Good to see you. Now, don’t hurt the little Walmart cashier..who knows, they may show a clip of David’s latest Video at the event…stranger things have happened.
I know I seem to be one of these fans who never seem to be satisfied with the decisions by Jive, but releasing the original studio version of ZG was NOT what I had in mind. It just is not the same as the ZG David introduced and WOWED us with…so WTH!! Did TPTB at Jive not see & hear this fact? Would it have been too so hard to get some of the best ZG performances and make one recording..I dunno..do whatever they do..remix them or whatever they do in the studio to make the final recording..WHAT THE H@#L..would that have been so hard!?
I’m done now. Gotta get to work on my day off (mandatory OT)!
So I’m not happy about many things today..only thing good is that David sounded good on his last twitter message…and who knows what surprises may come up TODAY..after all the day has 24 hours and has just started..
See ya later!!
But Desertrat #98 could be on to something though. At least that sounds possible.
Walmart cellcast if any are interested. This is from a Kris Allen fansite…I think he is performing. I doubt David will be there but for those interested -http://www.krisallenation.com/2009/06/walmart-live-webcast.html
Sorry but you have to copy and paste the above link for some reason…
p,s,- I think it is starting in about 20 minutes .
There’s a live webcast on now of the WALMART thing.
http://walmartstores.com/investors/7652.aspx
Thanks pabuckie….that is much easier!
God, I can’t wait to see if David comes on before my bosses come in. YIKES!!
Miley Cyrus now performing at the Wal Mart meeting -- she was a “surprise” guest.
fandaforever#100, thank you for that. I really appreciate it.
“I know I seem to be one of these fans who never seem to be satisfied with the decisions by Jive, but releasing the original studio version of ZG was NOT what I had in mind.”
Sigh. SF, these are the same folks who had better versions of Touch My Hand (including the version he did at the House of Blues), and they still lazily used the studio version for that equally lazily edited music video. I’m learning to lower my expectations with anything they do these days.
As long as a full-length version of ZG is released I’m good. Especially since there will be a number of cool DJ remixes I could use in its place once this happens.
Good morning, everyone!
When I posted yesterday that Miley opened up a new clothing line -- boy, talk about coincidence!! Never knew she would perform.
Hey, maybe if David DID do like Superman..he & Miley can do their “DUET” at the Walmart thingy, no???
silverfox -- GOOD POINT!!
I can’t imagine what song David would sing at this?
To be read after this WALMART thing.
http://www.heraldextra.com/entertainment/music/article_7008cc9a-d760-538a-84f9-9a8d2c89f5fe.html
I hate when they bring up his nervousness and fidgetiness…although David himself brought up the nerves so I guess it’s true..but it was his first solo tour so I’m sure he was a bit nervous. And, fidgetiness (if that’s a word) David did say he had ADD yesterday, guess that’s what he meant.
Sorry, Pabuckie, but I decided to read that Herald Extra interview before waiting for any Walmart thing.
It’s actually an eye-opening and insightful article.
Yeah I’m getting a little sick of this Walmart thingy. I’m sure if David does come on he will walk on the stage and my bosses will walk in the door and that will be the end of that. Ha!
David would freak out Sam Walton if he sang ZERO GRAVITY!! Get all the Walmart peeps jumping & dancing all over the place! Let’s get this party started!!
I’ll shut up now.
I feel like I’m watching the opening ceremony of the Olympics.
LOL, I am also watching the Walmart thingy, how long is it going to last ?? and he may not even be there !!??
Silverfox -- OK so maybe David should sing “ONE”!
Silverfox -- I’d like to see all those men in business suits sitting there and seeing David sing “ZERO GRAVITY” too! haha
junnie4DJA -- this is disgusting -- boy, what we do for DAVID.
pabukie -- oh my, couldnt agree more..the things we do for David …(dont forget to look out for your bosses !)
OMG! We’re going around the world again.!
junnie4DJA -- I know what’s gonna happen -- IF David comes on my boss will step foot in this door and I will have watched all this for nothing.
pabuckie -- you said it, what we do for David!
Hey!! Maybe I can retire and join the “Walmart Family” as one of those retirees they hire as greeters…I’d say, “Welcome! Don’t forget to get the latest David Archuleta CD! You can find it in out music dept..and forget about any other cd as they aren’t worth your hard earned money! Hurry back now!” How long before I’d get fired??
Funny how FOD posted the the Walmart thingy and how to check out the webcast…hmmmmm? They DO have VRS after all..sooo??
Just posting my guess for the song David will sing at this Walmart thingy here, if he does indeed sing (which he BETTER, cause I, too, CANNOT BELIEVE I’m watching this stuff).
I think it might be “Works For Me”, since it is the bonus track on the Walmart CD, it’s upbeat, has a positive message, speaks to overcoming challenges with a never-say-die attitude, it’s about following your dreams… and it’s got a darn catchy tune!
Good choice for employees and shareholders who may be getting a wee bit bored….and who might think… “What Just Happened?? Gotta pick me up one of those CDs at the store tomorrow -- THAT BOY CAN SING!!”
Besides, it’s my very cool 18 year old daughter’s favorite song on the CD -- and that Works For Me!!
Hi zoe -- I was just thinking the same thing -- I CANNOT believe I am watching this! Wonder if David knows how very much we love him -- we aren’t even sure he is going to be at this ‘thingy’!
So if I become a Walmart employee I have to go to this 4 hour long shareholder meeting?
Zoe…Works for ME!!
But I’m not watching..I’m “working”…really I am! I just check in here to see what’s up…and I see David hasn’t appeared yet. Otherwise there would be lots of Sqeeeeeeeees!
Hey Archiesfan -- so true!! Besides, I should be back in the kitchen cutting up the veggies and fruit and baking for our graduation party tonight.
These possible David sightings can be sooo DISTRACTING!!
Haha, Pabuckie…think LONG and HARD about that one! Although of course if would be TOTALLY worth it if David performed at the annual meetings!
pabuckie
You seem a tad agitated today, I sense you need some David and ONE!
Deep Breaths!
Abrra
SF, I sometimes have nightmares that I’m at the office sneaking a peak at TDC when all of a sudden I am surrounded by all the partners of my firm…and they are NOT HAPPY! I wake up in a heap of sweat!
So what I think I should do just in case that ever really happens, is to have a ready stash of David’s CDs at my desk to give out..something like a peace offering…so that they would understand how I CAN’T HELP MYSELF, haha!
And maybe even convert a few nonbelievers in the process!
Zoe..good idea! So what’s happening?
It’s 9AM in Utah..where David should be and 10AM in AR where he may or may not be.
WHERE ART THOU, SWEET PRINCE?????
IF David performs at Wal-Mart meeting, my guess would be he’d sing IMAGINE. It would sort of suit the theme of the meeting…
“IMAGINE” what could happen if we work together….
joner, initially I was thinking of Imagine, too. It really would be a perfect choice…except it’s not on the CD… and I WANT MORE CDs SOLD!!!
Abrra -- What a waste of time. Anyway, thanks for the video but can’t watch it now -- too busy at work. Thanks, though. Will have to watch later unfortunately.
What we do for David…….
Abrra
WTF??? Have we been duped???
Studio version, only, of ZG? I’m not freaking out.
Though I would prefer to have more than one version (who wouldn’t?), if it’s true what that person said (the quote JR posted here), that they juiced up the mix, I would still be more than pleased.
It is BOUND to have the bridge, too — what we heard earlier was just the first minute-and-a-half or so of the demo, so it wasn’t long enough to include the bridge.
Not sure how it will end though. But yeah, the demo mix is pretty flat and I would love to hear the new mix!
Well, that was a BIG WASTE as far as I’m concerned (agitated, a little bit don’t ya think!). Anyway, going to lunch to clear my brain.
Hope we get somewhat of a NEW ZG on that fanbundle thingy.
So, now I look forward to watching 3 hours of a soccer game??
Just to see before & after stuff.
What we do for David….to be continued.
This article was posted at Snarky’s and it made me ill and so sad…and that this Rodney person is calling it the David Archuleta concert..excuse me? Yes I know it’s only cuz David is the AI alum hence the comparison, but forgive me if it still made me sick & sad…

Atlanta’s favorite Idol blogger Rodney Ho evaluates American Idol shows at Gwinnett Arena and their ticket sales on ajc.com:
6/5: Idols Live concert at Gwinnett sold out. David Archuleta’s concert? Not so much
8:52 pm June 4, 2009, by Rodney Ho
Gwinnett Arena tickets for July 31’s “Idols Live” concert are now sold out and have been for quite awhile, according to marketing manager Julia Karrenbaeur.
I suspect tickets, which went on sale May 9, sold out even quicker than last year. That bodes well for this tour’s success. I’m not surprised. There are a lot of reasons for people to go, especially for the Adam/Kris/Danny contingents.
Regular ticket prices ranged from about $50 to $70. At some of the secondary market (read: scalper) locales, tickets right now mostly range between $130 to $300 a piece.
Oftentimes, the promoter set aside seats upfront for stage setup reasons, for sponsors or the Idols themselves and not put them on sale. They might open those seats up closer to the day of the concert. They also sometimes add extra seats on the side of the stage at the last second. So if you want to go and not want to pay scalper prices, keep checking ticketmaster regularly.
I know seasons four and five sold out. In fact, season five was so popular, they added a second date in Atlanta. Season six did not sell out. (Sorry, Jordin and Blake what’s his face). Season seven sold out, naturally.
-But here’s an obvious signs ticket sales are soft for the upcoming Demi Lovato/David Archuleta concert at Gwinnett Arena June 29. This weekend, Ticketmaster is offering tickets for just $14.99 each. Normal ticket prices: $39.50 and $49.50. (Gwinnett has already made it a half-stadium set up, which means maybe 6,000 seats.)
I am making a preemptive strike against the panic and anxiety that I’m sure is going to kick in the minute our readers discover that Demi/David tickets at additional concert locations are being discounted.
Let me go on record as saying that I was never a huge fan of the Demi/David pairing to begin with. I don’t care for David being associated with Disney in any way.
That being said, I think Disney made a huge mistake by not emphasizing David more in their promotions as it would probably have helped improve ticket sales but I think alot of what’s going on is a symptom of our economy. Even some of the extremely popular, chart-topping, very successful artists are having the same problem as evidenced in this article, so BREATHE IN….BREATHE OUT…(I’m saying this as much for myself as I am for all of you)
http://mjsbigidolblog.com/?p=3522
I’m getting angina over this crap. SF… I was hoping you didn’t see that article 8(
I don’t know what I’m thinking yet.
first I have to find this rodney guy
I feel SICK..and..sad.
Joner..I get what you are saying, however…the problem I saw from the beginning besides the fact that David was being billed as the “OPENER” or Guest..was that the venues were in the big arenas. WTH??? The ONLY artists who are doing well in the big arenas & stadiums are the BIG NAMES. If there HAD to be a Demi/David pairing, why not in smaller venues?
I have this horrible gut wrenching feeling that many of David’s fans just refuse spend their hard earned money to see David at a tween/younger teen concert. Had David been paired with a more mature and artist, tickets sales would have been decent, even s/o.
I would like to check out the VIP ticket sales for Demi. I would like to see how ticket sales for David’s solo concerts are doing. I want Jive/Azoff, whoever made this brilliant decision to sign David on as an opener for a young Disney starlet to see what a colossal blunder it was..
Someone tell me I am wrong…I WANT TO BE WRONG!! Make me eat my words, somebody, please. So I can just chill.
recent Manila ZG
Sorry..excuse the horrible grammar & typos..
When it was first announced that David would be “opening” for a Disney actress who had little to no recording success, I was pretty much disgusted. What brilliant management team made this decision. Now I truly hope I am wrong and that the tour will be a success, but I am getting sick of seeing David’s management team make some obviously bad decisions. I am a huge supporter of David, I will be at several of the west coast concerts, but I must say that I had and still have reservations knowing I will have to sit with a Disney oriented crowd to see David. I have VIP tickets, so I have even thought about only going to the preshow event and avoiding the concert. I really dislike the fact that David is associated with Lovato. I am sure many adult fans like myself are not happy about this. I hope David survives this year, puts out a great 2nd CD and move far away from the teen/preteen marketing strategy. David Archuleta is too talented for this, he deserves so much more.
Hey all! I already got a reply from the lady I sent the David stuff to yesterday. She only had time to watch the Imagine from Idol so far:
“Ok, I understand now. I only went to the first link so far, but I will play all of them. He is very precious. Love his voice with that song. And……… he truly could pass for your son, he would be lucky to have you . Although I don’t believe his parents are going to put him up for adoption any time soon. Thanks so much for sharing.”
I also sent her the Ford Day full Imagine, SOT from SLC, WYSLYM and Angels from Tulsa, plus a link to the CD and the fan pack next week.
I have a feeling I’ll be hearing from her again after she watches the rest!
brought this over from FOD…
Angel When I heard the radio promo for No Doubt this morning I knew it. They reduced the tickets to $10? And the concert is Monday and hasn’t sold out yet. I’m in Raleigh and it is kind of rock or country but guess what the same thing happened when John Mayer or Jason Mraz was here too. Just logistics to where the concert is and hard times? I am glad they made the tickets more affordable. Fill those seats!
Kelly Clarkson is coming to Orem, Utah to play at the baseball field at the Utah Valley University. If you live in Orem or a student the tickets are $15. I think this is telling as to what is going on with the selling of tickets this summer.
It seems the slow ticket sales is affecting several artists.
I don’t comment frequently on David sites but I visit most of them several times each day. Silverfox’s despair brought me out of lurking (while I’m at work no less) because I want to say that I understand your concern and appreciate your devotion to my favorite singer ever. But that article in the Atlanta Journal was simply an argument starter. I almost never comment on this type of article now that I see how happy David is and how much he has accomplished. This morning though, I couldn’t resist. I took the bait. Thank you Joner for the link to the article about the Kelly Clarkson/Jay-Zee concert. The economy is undoubtedly having an impact on many of the parents buying tickets for the age group targeted and the concert industry as a whole is definitely suffering. I couldn’t make it to the North Hampton show due to the snow storm this winter so I am NOT letting a little thing like the Disney target audience keep me home from my show!
mav153 -- You are welcome for the link I posted and even more welcome to continue posting yourself here at TDC. We always welcome fresh perspectives on anything having to do with our “favorite subject”.
bigsky “I have even thought about only going to the preshow event and avoiding the concert.”
OH MY ~ I’ve thought about the SAME THING !! But David WILL be performing ~ and walking out on him ~ I can’t bring myself to do it. When HE’S done ~ well naturally I’ll be done ~ but walking out on David ~ I just can’t 8(
I am however ~ having a wonderful time fighting with the AJC commentors ~ I needed a source to vent my frustrations ~ and this is working out quite lovely ~ Thank You SF for posting it ~ because I REALLY needed a place to blow off steam ~ and well ~ I’m lovin it ~ it’s like shooting fish in a barrel. Feel free to join in
Question -- why sit through Demi’s set if you’re just there for David. I would leave after David sings.
Abrra #139 -- Thanks for the video. Just watched it, breathing in and out -- feel much better now.
At 1:01 -- pic to die for -- it’s all about the music.
If David’s career was to suddenly STOP tomorrow -- David would be fine and he’d still have fans and we would all get to see him in smaller venues -- up close and personal -- like the PC Richard thing -- AND wouldn’t have to pay for VIP tickets.
oh boy ~ tensions seem to be high all over ~ something is in the air ~ David needs to calm everyone down somehow ~ so it’s not just here SF ~ hang tight ~ he’ll be here ~ he’ll reach out ~ you watch ~ he knows when it’s needed.
jessieQ!!!!!!!!- Glad you commented, I’ve missed you.
Ronaldsf AND JessieQ in the same thread?….
Hey all, there is a new This Week in ArchuWorld that you will enjoy. And speaking of the world of David, is there any among you who might be interested in helping with this feature? Give me a buzz through the comments and I’ll give you the details.
Now THIS is how it’s done!
“This Week in ArchuWorld that you will enjoy. And speaking of the world of David, is there any among you who might be interested in helping with this feature?”
I did when it first launched, but nobody ever got back to me.
HG -- Your “HALO” video will always be #1 for me. But, I found another one. For some reason this song and David just go together…I’m addicted to his light and this song.
Here is a another must read.

Dawn65 #160: bigsky “I have even thought about only going to the preshow event and avoiding the concert.”
I think you meant bj, I have not been to a David concert of any kind. I will given the opportunity, but I do not feel the need (haha…I’m a big fat liar). I’m so jealous…
Anyway, all this nonsense about opening acts, high school graduation, soft ticket sales, whatever, is just water off David’s back.
I agree wholeheartedly with Pabuckie #162, David will be fine and so will we. Hey SF, we love you darlin’…chill bb.
Just one thing…doesn’t affect me…but people who bought tickets at regular price to venues that are now discounting should get a credit for the difference. Oh, and I always thought ticket prices were way too high…greed kills.
Must we go through the DRAMA again? Sigh! Rehashing the hash isn’t productive.

“I have this horrible gut wrenching feeling that many of David’s fans just refuse spend their hard earned money to see David at a tween/younger teen concert. Had David been paired with a more mature and artist, tickets sales would have been decent, even s/o.”
*timidly raises hand.*
Sorry that I’m one of those who just didn’t bother (even with VIP opportunities), but I just didn’t want to support the madness of the decisions his management has been making. I love David, but there are limits.
Now, I’m feeling bad that some of these shows aren’t selling out.
I just didn’t feel like supporting this Disney/tween nonsense is all. That’s NOT how David cultivated his fanbase, and it’s NOT how his fanbase is going to grow. If his peeps don’t get that basic idea, then there’s nothing for me to do but wait out the madness until they get some sense.
Having said that, I really resent some bozo trashing David’s good name because the DEMI LOVATO CONCERT, which he’s just opening for, isn’t selling out. Oh how quickly we forget the success story of his own s/o headlined tour.
Take a deep breath, SF and everyone else. This too shall pass. Eventually, we will all get a clue.
It’s not drama Abrra ~ it’s constructive thought provoking debate. It’s good for the soul ~ like a spiritual cleansing, and I’ve done ALOT today on AJC. It’s been a riot. But it’s difficult to have a battle of wits with an unarmed person, so I’ve had to dumb down some.. haha .. no just kidding.
HG ~ I think a LOT of fans think the way you do. I DID feel that way, I was not going to support that decision one bit, but then .. David.. I have no will power.
For me, when it comes to David, I’m the prime victim ~ I will sacrifice my dignity to just to see him. Isn’t that like ~ the last symptom of ODD?
BigSky ~ I apologize, yes I got confused, that was a response to bj.
I’ve been off in Archumania today. All the fanbases are tense. Passion I tell you, he ignites passion from every place, he can’t help it, even without being present, he manages to cause a stir
Folks, I’m not too worried about the Rodney Ho article — he’s always done the same type of article as concerns David A. and he wants the hits to his site. A few of us went to ticketmaster to feign a purchase and you CAN get tickets to the Idols concert in the Atlanta area. You can also get tickets to the David and Demi concert there, but the ones I received had me sitting in the grayed out section not previously for sale. That D/D show isn’t doing too bad.
And think of it this way: if Ho has any kind of readership in the Atlanta area, he just told them not to bother to buy available tickets to the Idols tour concert because they are ‘sold out’ according to his source. LOL!
dawn65 -- what is AJC?
So, of course, someone would carry this headline: “American Idol kept me from graduating from high school”:

Bigsky #170 -- THANKS!!
I’ll admit I was agitated today at that Walmart Shareholder meeting … we all worry, get agitated at times. But, then I think of DAVID and listen to his music and it calms me down. The Archuleta always rises above it. I start to think of DAVID and just trust in my faith that everything happens for a reason and I think of how DAVID would never worry about any of this stuff. Let’s remember, it’s all about him and the music. We should all just take a break and look at some videos. We’ve worried before over him coming in 2nd, icarly, lunchboxes, hannah montana….everything will happen the way it’s meant to. Let’s trust the ARCHULETA!
Abrra -- your video did me wonders!!
Good post pabuckie! #177
I no longer read the links to any blogger that is negative. They crave attention and hits on their site. My mantra has always been Trust the Archulator! He is in a happy place and I am along for the ride.

Here’s David at the Relient show last night…. It strikes me how we worry and here he is chilling…

Need a little breaky .. and wine.. so I don’t say something stupid.
Sorry, Dawn -- let’s be grateful it’s not TMZ or something. And, yes, djafan, lovely pic of David just chillin’. Oh to be 18 again and not worrying about a thing.
And why should he when he’s got us to do the worrying for him!
We need some fun here! Blingee contest FTW!

I don’t know if this has been posted yet, but I just read this at FOD:
“David to perform in Washington, D.C.
Jenny called me from Utah with this exciting news!
On Tuesday night, David will be performing at the Gala for the Children Uniting Nations 4th Annual Conference in Washington, D.C. The performance will take place at the U.S. Department of State, in the Benjamin Franklin Diplomatic Reception Room”
If the concert venues clear out after David is done with his set, they might seriously consider co-billing David and Demi. That’s what *I* would do at least. And then have them come out for a duet at the end! Sound familiar?
Means both fanbases stay for the whole concert, there are more concession stand sales, less poor buzz, and more exposure for both Demi and David to each other’s fanbases.
This is just my theory. What might be in the way, though, is some term in Demi’s contract. (I’m studying for the bar, sorry I can’t help thinking all legally right now!)
Oh, and perhaps I didn’t make clear: by co-billing, I mean having them each perform for half the time of the concert.
I don’t know if a switcheroo in the middle of a tour has been done before, though…
Still, we’re still in Speculationlandia. Let’s just see what happens and cross that bridge when we come to it. We don’t wanna lose hair over this.
Hi all! From the fan here who is “lukewarm” on twitter- I am voting like a craaaaazy fool for DA to be Mr. Twitter Universe.. ( something cool about that universe title thing really appeals to me).
At any rate, I am not the only one because he has moved up the wall to second place behind Tom McFly… you too can vote every 2o minutes until Monday… http://tweeterwall.mallplace.com/tw/worldwide/elite-mr-twitter-universe
DAVID WHAT HAVE YOU DONE TO ME?
Imagine David in Dc will be exciting.

Abrra -- <3 avi!
Hope, hope, hoping for a video of David singing “Prayer of the Children.” And we know his Angels will be stunning. I wonder what kind of accompaniament he will have.
ronaldsf, i sure wish you were david’s co-manager, concert promoter, entertainment attorney.
If you are going to the Hartford show VIP, please let us know ASAP, with regard to our letter-writing campaign for the song, “One”.
Thank you.
Duh, could someone direct me to the link for the “One” letter writing campaign? Can’t find it for the life of me. Thanks.
I feel like the Archie FBI. If you look at the shoes of the person standing across from in the pic where he’s leaning against the wall before the Thursday concert, those shoes belong to Fish. He’s been hanging with her a lot lately, I’ve noticed.
DC news—Dangit!!! And I would be leaving D.C. hours before that!! I would have totally tried to go or at least stalked the building.
#200, i noticed the shoes too;i own a pair just like them.
IRVING AZOFF, CEO, TICKETMASTER ENTERTAINMENT:
“Front Line is also performing well with strong performances from perrenial favorites such as: … Steely Dan, the Eagles, and Fleetwood Mac and a number of first time tour successes like: Jennifer Hudson, … and David Archuleta.
….
As the recording industry has suffered, artists increasingly rely on touring to supplement their income and build their fan base but more than 40% of concert tickets still go unsold. In today’s environment, some of that has to do with the economic challenges we all face but even in good times the bigger issue is inefficient ticket pricing and limited transparency.”

You would have seen me on the evening news…”crazy woman stalks federal building and attacks guest singer at national gala with a bear hug…”
Freofan -Is Fish the same person as Mietra, the one on countingdavidscharacter that was interviewed a long time ago at his High School?
Hey all! Happy -- Glad to be missed by someone around here. (Rascal I’m pointing at you!)ha. Even when I’m not commenting, I am still reading. It’s kinda like an interactive soap opera around here with all the drama! ‘The DA’s of Our Lives’… Foxy, don’t worry about the poor walmart cashier, worry about that Rodney guy! He’s just made my short list of people I would LIKE to meet in a dark alley.. It’s been a long week. I really think the reason for the poor ticket sales for the ‘Archuvato’ concert are due mainly because of the Actual difference in the fan bases of Demi and David. A lot of David fans don’t really want to see a concert that is only part Archuleta and billed as a “Demi Lovato with guest David Archuleta” event. Also one kinda weird thing is that in a lot of the areas that the Archuvato concert is happening, David is also doing his smaller venue shows. In Milwaukee (where I am seeing DA), his solo concert is the night before the other concert, and in the same city. It kinda put the k abash on me shelling out for both shows. (even though I probably will)
kizzi ~ I have been really busy at work and am late to comment on your wonderful article. It really got me to thinking. So often we try to explain what David does for us to others only to meet a brick wall. I don’t even try to justify my ODD anymore. I just embrace it and refuse to let anyone steal my joy. And it is joy, the most I have felt in a long time. Some things, you simply can not explain; they have to be experienced for yourself. You wrote:
“I experience something that I can’t prove empirically, that I struggle to explain.”
It’s kind of like trying to explain a personal connection with God, (and no, I don’t think David is deity or even an angel so lets not go there.) I just mean that what we have been given is something so special and we can’t give it away, we can only state our truth and let others take it or leave it. Hopefully more and more people will be touched by his music and enjoy something that will not come again in our lifetimes. How sad that some will go to their graves and never realize what they missed.
I used to worry about it and if I was normal and the rest of the world was sane. It has taken a year to realize that none of that matters. Maybe I’m crazy, maybe you’re crazy, maybe we’re crazy__possibly. hahaha. To paraphrase Rascal, I’ve learned not to question what feeds my soul.
After my ranting & raving earlier today, I realized that we really do not know what David wants or what direction he wants to go in. Maybe he wants to be a teen idol? Maybe he wants to to see more tweens/teens versus older fans at his concerts?
He says he is excited about the summer tour and surely he knows it’s geared for a different and much younger audience than his solo tour was. Maybe this is what he wants. He constantly talks about how much he loves being with people close to his own age. I know he appreciates all his fans and please forgive me, but if I were an 18 YO singer just starting out, I’m not sure I would be happy if my audiences consisted of as many older fans as David has in his audiences. We know he is different, special, superior vocally to any singer currently out there, and we really can’t help how we feel about David. Some of us, if truth be told, can’t understand our attachment to David. I can understand why some non-fans think it’s weird for 30-40-50 and older otherwise sane people to be over the moon for David. Maybe David feels the same way, even though I know he appreciates our support. I started thinking about this because I have always had the impression that even with all his wonderful, compassionate, and understanding traits, David is also strong willed, focused, goal-oriented and not afraid to speak his mind if his ultimate goals are derailed in any way. I feel this very deeply. Like some great leaders, he may speak softly, but he means what he says and says what he means. David opening for Demi will be the way for David to gain the younger fans he wants. He and his peeps had to consider the fact that many of his older fans would not pay to see David open for a Disney teen starlet. They had to know and apparently were not concerned about it. If David had any reservations about the tour, I believe he would not have agreed to do it. This is how I feel tonight. Tomorrow, I may feel differently, but whatever the truth is, I am and will always be one of his older fans, forever & unconditionally…
Contigo siempre con amor!
pabuckie #204- Mietra & Fish are two different girls.
Here’s a picture of her & David at the No Doubt concert.

She’s the young lady in the green. A few of the younger Archies are a little concerned about how much David has been seeing Fish lately, but other sources are claiming Fish is NOT the one they should be concerned about.
Thanks, cutter12!
So are you saying they should be worried about Mietra or someone else?
Maybe I shouldn’t say anything ELSE. I had written a post, hit submit, and it totally disappeared.
Maybe your wi-fi just messed up. That’s happened to me a couple of times. Try sending it again.
Hey pabuckie,
I made those posts on my work’s computer, so I don’t know what the set-up for that computer is, but now I am home and I’m going to catch up on all the new David info.
Angelica#206 -- “we have been given is something so special and we can’t give it away, we can only state our truth and let others take it or leave it.”
You do speak the truth…. I’m tucking this one in my pocket as a constant reminder of my belief in David & his music.
was just thinkin about stuff today….. If the teen/tween fans are his focus group, do they have a fansite(s) in support of him? Exactly how do they (whoever THEY are) quantify support? Obviously, it’s not entirely on CD/download purchases (#/age group?), concert attendance (#/age group?), fansites (TDC, snarkys, FOD,etc). Are these figures dominated by teen/tweens? I really have my doubts. Just look at the picture at Tribeca Z100. Looks pretty mature to me. I am so puzzled. Or does any of this really matter?
SF#207 -- “He constantly talks about how much he loves being with people close to his own age. I know he appreciates all his fans and please forgive me, but if I were an 18 YO singer just starting out, I’m not sure I would be happy if my audiences consisted of as many older fans as David has in his audiences.”
I also thought about this but it doesn’t compute. Some of his performances seem very mature (DLG, Barriers, WFM, YEDL…) for tweens/teens, maybe older teens. Besides I don’t recall him ever saying he preferred his audiences to be younger -- just likes being around people his age. Even his band mates are older unlike the McFlys or Jonas Bros. Since he spends so much time traveling with them (his band, Dad, Ray), I’m not surprised he would say that. All seems pretty natural to me.
Rae #194: David just overtook Tom Mcfly as Mr. Twitter Universe as of this morning . While we slept, Asia voted? — the advantage of having fans in different time zones!

Bebereader is asking that TDC support a letter writing campaign. She asks that we all hand write a request to David to sing the full version …..maybe he will pass them along to JIVE. Our VIP folks can deliver the letters to David. Go ahead and write the letters. We are working on where to send them and will post the address as soon as we get it settled.

That twitter contest -- David is only 51 votes ahead of TomMcFly. The Brits are in their prime voting zone now….

““He constantly talks about how much he loves being with people close to his own age. I know he appreciates all his fans and please forgive me, but if I were an 18 YO singer just starting out, I’m not sure I would be happy if my audiences consisted of as many older fans as David has in his audiences.”
SF, if I were an 18 YO, I’m not sure I would appreciate a bunch of 8-10 YOs as my primary audience either. After all, they’re not exactly “people his own age” are they? David’s a TEEN not a TWEEN.
Even the Miley Cyruses and Zac Efrons are trying very hard to seem more mature for the tween market.
I’m totally in agreement with Fandaforever on this.
BTW, did everyone see on Snarky’s the t-shirt David wore to his last concert? Its message: MAKE MUSIC, NOT WAR. I so want that t-shirt!
Actually, to be more specific, David is a YOUNG ADULT who, had he graduated on time and had a regular life, would probably be making plans this summer to go to college. Do you really think someone who takes music as seriously as he does that being marketed to tweens is what he wants? Yes, he loves the children, but I’m not sure I’m getting the vibe from him that he wants to do bubble gum pop.
David loves his fans of all ages, I gather. Look at the concerts he’s been attending lately: very mature music.
I’ve argued before and I’ll argue again: his management seems not to get him musically nor do they seem to fully understand who we, as Arch Angels, really are. If they did, they would not have been forcing this tween route for him. They’ve already delayed his graduation, and now they’re trying to delay his youth? I honestly don’t get it.
HG, I am in complete agreement with you. David is being marketed to the tweens, not teens. Crucial difference there. My daughter is a very typical 17 year old, and she listens to music that David HIMSELF listens to: the Fray, Jason Mraz, the Script, etc. When she was 13, she liked HM and JB, but she and her friends quickly left them behind and turned to more adult music as soon as they turned 15. The idea that you need to expose David to the tweens so that they will follow him as they grow up is misguided. As the tweens turn into teens, they will leave behind their tween idols and turn into mature music overnight. If David is perceived as a tween idol, it all but guarantees the tweens will leave him behind as they grow up. Just speaking from my experience as a parent of two teens.
That’s just it, YJ. Being a TWEEN IDOL is even more short-lived than being a TEEN IDOL. I guess there is quick cash to make with this market, but I’m not really seeing any big payoffs with this audience either. Honestly, if you’re not going to be Jonas Brothers or Miley Cyrus successful, then it’s a waste of time.
Anyway, the good news is: we’re getting a Christmas Album, and next year, when David is 19 (which, IMO, is too old to be even a TEEN IDOL much less a TWEEN IDOL), let’s hope the next pop album matures along with him. Alisha Keys was 19 when she became a celebrated and respected music artist with her Songs in A Minor. Is it too much to ask that David make a similar album worthy of respect at a similar age?
Hi Liz, thanks for the reminder. I just responded to your e-mail!
HG --
Tom from Mcfly is funny..look at his tweet :
Well I went to bed as the leading Mr twitter universe and woke up a sloppy second! That darn Mr Achuleta.
12 minutes ago from web
Ya, the Asian fans are voting like crazy but I think the UK fans will vote like crazy now that they are up ! Its over to the US now !
Asia, Good job! You can go to bed now. The US will try to keep him afloat --before the UK wakes up!
(Gotta love the battle of the time zones!)
The UK fans are so fast, Tom is top again !
I think the twitter server has crashed lol

This twitter race hs a hoot! neck in neck… Wonder of David even knows.
Re the marketing- I agree that IMO David never wanted to be a tween or even a teen idol. He is a serions artist who wants to do quliaty, creative and innovative music. I am not sure how much thought he gives to his audience- he just wantt to grow in his craft and share his love of music. I agree with HG
” I’ve argued before and I’ll argue again: his management seems not to get him musically nor do they seem to fully understand who we, as Arch Angels, really are”
I am not sure about how the demi parternship thing came about …but wonder if there was a lack of choice for the summer tour where he would get some larger exposure…so it was a bit by default to keep big MO going….
as usual- sorry about the typos. Clearly I could never be a proof reader for anything or anyone.
Morning everyone!
Leave it up to me to go startin’ sumpin’. About “What does DAVID want?” And I still Want to know. Does HE even know? I watched several Demi concert videos (she has 159,000 videos on youtube!), and I gotta say I am as confused as ever as to WHY David agreed to open for her. She is not bad. She is very popular among her target age group. But she is SO not in David’s league. I was questioning the fact that David & his mgmt had to know beforehand that many of David’s more mature fans would hesitate, or refuse to see David in the role of opener or guest for Demi. When I say “mature”, I am also thinking of older teens/twenty-somethings as well. So I am wondering why, since David’s taste in music far exceeds Demi’s style, he would want to tour with her or anyone in her age group. Not trying to pick on her as a person or performer, because she does have her fans and after all, she writes her stuff..a trait David admires in all artists.
Get ready to throw more tomatoes cause as much as I love to see David perform live, I am starting to think perhaps David should have foregone the summer tour and instead opted for a few solo venues and taken time to work on a quality album. I will always worry about whether decisions made on David’s behalf by his mgmt are in his best interests. I want David to have longevity. I wish there were no bumps on the road for him. I wish everyone could see he musical brilliance in David that we see. And, sorry but this tour as an opener for Demi is not going to do that any time soon. But since the summer tour is set in stone, I am sure David will gain the fans in the target age group that TPTB are aiming for. Unfortunately, that age group will not fully appreciate what David has to offer.
Anyway..I am going to Del Mar, Pittsburgh, AC, and Manchester, not to mention my own hometown where ticket sales are less than great…I’ll be there FOR David, even though I am one of his much older fans because I know of no other way to support him.
And I’m rambling…
BUT SF -- there is no one who’s ramblings I’d rather read
Junnie, I am loving the Twitter Universe race that’s turned into a relay — David may or may not be aware of it but Team David is certainly having fun.
And watch out for dannygokey in that twitter thing. He’s gone from about 17th to 6th in 2 days.
HG #218 “BTW, did everyone see on Snarky’s the t-shirt David wore to his last concert? Its message: MAKE MUSIC, NOT WAR. I so want that t-shirt!”
HG: On that same page on Snarkies there was an ad to order the shirt. Hope you saw.
So much is so true SF and we have had surprises before such as thinking that opening for McFly was an odd mix at the time, but it wasn’t. David fit into their concert beautifully and I believe they (McFly) were a bit in awe themselves.
To be out of sight and writing only, is being away from audiences far too long when summertime is for concerts.I believe that we have to go up and down the hills and valleys with him and see what it is all about.
David wants to sing on stage and entertain people. Every event with him is a joy. He performed in some pretty small and less then attractive venues. He had worries that someone might get crushed or someone is freezing in the cold temperatures outside the venues. No matter if the venues are filled to capacity or not, these are planned concerts, media attention and the opportunities to entertain new admirers.
Just for the fun of it let me tell you a short story. We have three large dogs and they love to run hard like horses, like to swim, like to play and be silly. If we do not take them for a walk,or a run or a swim, they are restless all day and can’t sleep at night. Of course all that they like to do we also love to do with them.
So let me say that David loves to sing, entertain, meet people. try out new versions of songs and new stage moves. So, enjoy what he loves to do and he will keep smiling and sleep well at night…he has energy and challenges he is ready for.
We can worry about everything and often we do. Trust David’s instincts and opportunities so that his career will not be so often judged.
#231 YJfanofdavid Ya we are having fun..the things we do for David, some SG archies are planning to camp out the whole nite voting haha
#232 marlie7, yes notice dannygokey too. I am surprised too. Remember to click on US flag to vote David in the US too, danny is at 3rd place !
After spending some time today catching up on recent articles, I just want to give major props and express my deep gratitude to the brilliant contributors at TDC. You folks never cease to amaze me with your intelligent, thought provoking and enlightened articles. Your words are indeed food for the soul.
To Happy -- for your review of David’s recent performance in NYC -- “For all of the gifts that David has to share with us, for me, this is where he belongs. Simple and uncluttered. The simplicity lifts the extraordinary voice. You do not need to embellish a rose. Its exquisite beauty can be most completely appreciated when it does not have to compete for your attention.”
Simply sublime…
To Kizzi -- for your current post -- “That voice brimming with the subtleties of what it is to be alive. That voice that catapults one instantaneously to plumb the depths of so many emotions, so many vistas and landscapes that one didn’t expect to experience in a song. That voice that relentlessly draws one’s aesthetic sensibilities to the sublime.”
You leave me gobsmacked…
To Freofan -- Technology has certainly made a profound impact on my feeling of connectedness to David. It definitely feeds my ODD. And I was tickled to read that David responded to your tweet! Lucky you!!
And to YJfanofdavid -- I may have to convert after David puts out his Christmas album, haha! You too?? Also thanks for recently posting a video tribute of Save the Day. It has become one of my favorites, too!
Enough said! Have a great day all!!
Perhaps the summer tour was more of a financial decision as opposed to a marketing plan for him to gain more tween fans. With two albums coming up, he may need the funds to finance some of the upfront costs for studio time, producers, songwriters, musicians, etc.
Also, if David was only doing a few shows, his band probably would have parted ways in search of a more steady summer income. If that were to happen, David would have to find and audition new musicians.
Oh, I almost forgot…I am particular..
I like organic, vine grown, field ripe tomatoes thank you.
desertrat…so true there are many things to consider and one important one is to take good care of the band…he has an excellent one. He doesn’t stand alone on the stage…
You all make my head spin LOL
HG: yeah, you are right!
SF: very true
SB: of course, I should stop worrying
HG: Yeah, that’s true, too
Desertrat: perhaps, good point.
LOL -- we are all crazy! I worry, then I stop worrying, I read something, get freaked, read something else, calm down, go vote for Mr. Twitter, read something else…..off to the garden (not growing tomatoes, though, SB).
Hello Gorgeous, and Silverfox, I love your love and devotion to David, but, come on now, you have to get real. While you are worrying about his fan base, his touring partner, and his graduation, David is quietly having the time of his life, and has become, in one year, one of the most sought after and beloved singers and performers in the whole wide world. He is in a differenct city practically evry day. His fans range in age from 5 to 95, and they are increasing on a daily basis. If Twitter is any indication of his popularity, he may be the most popular entertainer on earth.
We are not his parents, we are his fans!! What exactly are you worrying about? Look at the world around you. Is David Archuleta really the person who you need to be worrying about? He’s on top of the world. David knows that, and that’s why he is devoting his time, talent, and energy to reaching out to the people who really need our worry and concern.
As for his music, HG, David does not sing bubble gum. His music is mature and textured ALREADY. His fans love it, buy it, and scream for him to sing the same songs again and again.
With all respect, might you be somewhat uncomfortable attending a concert with thousands of screaming teenagers. David is an 18 year old heart throb who sings like an angel. More than half a million people, of all ages, will see him on this summer tour. Of course he’s better than Demi Lovato. He’s better than everybody. So what!
“Well you see Marlie”…spoken with the John Wayne drawl…
We know what we want, what we don’t want and then our heads spin and we try to figure it all out…
Marlie7 OMG that’s exactly how I feel. Sometimes, I think I am going crazy too. Then I come here, ok , I have all my friends here (except I’ve got no garden to go lol)
bliss…I beleive that what you have said puts the concerns to rest and now is the time to solely enjoy David and his music.
SB #234 -- I agree with everything you say. We are probably a bunch of worrywarts…although all the discussions and conjecture certainly make for a lively fansite.
I have never followed any aspect of any other artist’s career. I don’t have a clue as to the challenges that I bet every last one of them has had to face. The successful ones have met the challenges and triumphed.
David is just beginning this journey…there will be bumps and hurdles along the way…but the genius of David’s voice, his commitment and passion to his craft, his artistry and humanity cannot be denied. I am certain that he will ultimately carve out for himself a very long, highly successful and, most importantly, a supremely satisfying career.
desertrat #237,
I think Jive pays the costs of producing the albums. As for the tour, David pays his band and personal security and other personal costs. I believe the promoters pay for venue security and tour promos, transportation, and accommodations for the artists. The VIP’s will help boost David’s income. We don’t know if David is being paid a set fee for the entire tour or a percentage of the ticket sales. I just hope the tour doesn’t lose money like so many other tours. I still think David could have done as well or better in smaller venues as a solo if income was a factor in the decision to tour this summer. Time will tell.
Another thing, I really believe David could have been signed to tour with any number of artists currently on tour. They chose Demi due to the Disney backing and the target age group.
IMO.
Marlie, Thanks..rambling is my forte’…but I only do it when I talk..heh-heh.
SB, I know David lives to sing & perform for his fans. I worry when he sometimes says things like..you never know how long it will last…meaning his singing career, as if he still doesn’t realize how good he is and doesn’t know his destiny is to be one of the truly great artists of our time. If only the decisions made now in his behalf don’t derail or slow down that destiny.
It’s a beautiful day here and I am going for a stroll along the river. I really need to stop thinking about David’s future as if I have a stake in it other than being able to continue the pleasure of listening to The Voice for the rest of my life, and start thinking in terms of trusting that he knows what he is doing.
See ya later!
Hi Zoe…true,a lively time in the debate room…but, we can bring negativity to his career through our writings and it is passed along by the readers…if we so enjoy his positive attitude towards life and we respect him as we do, then at least we should become more positive people.
If we put it out there into the world that we have so many concerns about decisions then that could add to the general feelings about him…we could be the ones making the mistakes in his career.
We want him to trust us….
Have a good Saturday…it is sunny here and I must plant roses!!
LOL -- I love you all: the worriers, the calm ones, the voters, the gushers, the analyzers, the commenters, the lurkers.
TDC FTW!
I’m ready to roll for Del Mar. I will be wearing my TDC button with pride.
Bliss,
“More than half a million people, of all ages, will see him on this summer tour.”
**sigh** if only that were true!
Now if his appearance in DC on Tuesday were to be nationally televised..THAT would be VERY GOOD! Will it be on TV, on any network, anywhere? I hope so! TV exposure can do so much more than a few concerts in gaining new fans..maybe Oprah will see him and invite him on her show someday. Not that I’m crazy about Oprah, but her show IS watched by MILLIONS and one appearance could do what a whole summer tour will do..but what do I know? Anyway…
Peace, out!
SF…I believe that David mentions that a career could only last for a short time etc. because he is a music history buff and he knows what happened to The Beatles and it was not because of their loss of fans and Elvis was lost to us early on because of the depression he went into and ill health.
What is it that we say?
I have not had time to read everyone’s posts yet. But, wanted to add that if it were not for David, perhaps the tweens/teens would not have been introduced to these higher quality songs like “Somebody Out There” and “You Can”. What better way and what better role model is there than David to have these young teenagers start listening to better music!
David seems to have the “younger” fans and us “older” fans. We know his potential is GREAT to produce some really beautiful, killer, mature songs…but I think that if it were not for David and the heartthrob that he is to the “younger” fans perhaps they would never be introduced to these more mature songs and “LOVE” it and David is the one to finally introduce them to better music.
SB -- perfection! Simple, unadorned singing. Pure pleasure.
SB #234 and Bliss #241
Brilliant and I totally agree!
I usually stay out of the worrying conversations because I sometimes feel that they put a negative spin on things, which is the last thing we want for David and his career. I’ve kept quiet about my feelings on David’s graduation but I will say one thing. Although I highly value education, knowing how David lives his life by the truth, I doubt very much that he would have accepted a H.S. diploma with the knowledge that he didn’t fulfill the requirements. This too shall come, in time.
Right now, he has to strike while the iron is hot. If you’ve seen the recent videos, he’s at a very happy point in his life right now, eager to perform at any and every opportunity, blazing away on his two upcoming albums, meeting fans when he can, traveling the world and having the time of his life.
I’m so looking forward to the summer tour!
I don’t care who else’s name is on the ticket because all I see is his.
Speaking of the summer tour, with respect to the “One” letter-writing campaign, is anyone going to the VIP for the following shows?
Hartford, CT (June 21)
Wilkes-Barre, PA (June 22)
Uniondale, NY (June 24)
Newark, NJ (June 25)
Boston, MA (June 26)
dfLiz…it is all of that..
Hi everyone:
Just wanted to chime in about Hollywood Records which is Demi’s label and owned by the Walt Disney Company and responsible for the summer tour.
They are a pop music label and produce and distribute albums for the Jonas Brothers, Hillary Duff, Miley Cyrus, and even the operatic rock band Queen among others; also, soundtracks to Disney movies. They are reportedly extremely generous in terms of their concert tours; Jive, by contrast, is reputed to be extremely frugal.
Their youtube channel: http://www.youtube.com/user/hollywoodrecords
They appear to market their artists quite aggressively.
I have a great appreciation of the marketing to young teens & tweens. They are deserving, thoughtful, discerning young people and I am glad that they have the opportunity for exposure to David Archuleta’s music at such a young age. After all, young teens/tweens will start to run the world is 30 years or so. I think as they grow they will follow David’s music as it is not just for tweens/young teens but can certainly be appreciated by them; as they mature they will follow his maturing music.
Bliss: I think you and I are twins when it comes to listening to kvetching & plutzing! LOL.
Hey all…check out Twitter…looks like David is tweeting up a storm!
Here is the vote- (talk about dedicated fans for both….)
I have to go do something contructive now- At times like this an I-phone would be handy- since I have been sucked down the rabbit hole of insanity wanting david to win this thing:
Saturday, 6th June 2009
13:56:20
Vote now fellow twitters!
@tommcfly50257 Votes@DavidArchie50242
This makes me sad…
Alex will be missed! That’s how babies change your life.
Kizzi, last week at the PC Richard thing, my “kvell-ometer” was off the chart, and when I shook his hand outside I thought I would “plotz.”
Silverfox, I’m sure that David would rather perform live in front of adoring fans every night for 2 months than make one appearance on a TV show. David is not concerned about his relative popularity. He wants to sing, write, nurture, and heal, all of which he does better than anyonme else. David would gladly tour with Howdy Doody if it meant he could sing.
Sandy Beaches, you totally “get” David. Your comment was “spot on”.
pabuckie, you also totally “get” it. David’s “cutness” is the magnet that gets young fans to listen to his music that they would otherwise overlook. David takes the high road in life, and gently leads the way to anyone who cares to join him.
David has never been more popular and happier. Right now he’s worrying about what clothes to take on his tour. We should all be grateful that we won’t have to endure that hideous suit they made him wear last year on the Ai Tour. If he could overcome that, nothing will stand in his way.
(((((((((((((((SF))))))))))))))))))
“More than half a million people, of all ages, will see him on this summer tour.” <-- that’s not even close to being true.
These “large” venues everyone is raving about are in fact quartered off stadiums.
Arena SIZE ~ but not selling for capacity .. even if the joint HOLDS 10,000 or more ~ these shows aren’t that big ~ and it’s a bad pairing.
They won’t get the fans with this pairing ~ JB is touring at the same time ~ so the teenie fans that went to watch Demi tour with JB will sit her show out and go see JB.
Hopefully he’ll break even ~ avoid tabloid drama (being on tour with Demi will stir up all kinds of TMZ stuff) ~ AND find another bass player.
the hits just keep coming.
SF, honey, hang tight ~ because regardless of what Jive or anyone else thinks ~ if it WASN’T for us older folk ~ David would not have the career he HAS.
Those teenie girls ~ aren’t hooked on his voice OR his music ~ they don’t even care ~ they argue about whether he’s cuter than Joe Jonas.
Peace,Love,Archuleta ~ I heart you SF, and can feel your frustration.
Worry away ~ from one mom to another ~ it’s what we do. For OUR kind ~ it’s part of the whole package ~
Oh marlie…that is how it goes…but the summer tour would be a hard road. I guess David will probably need band members without family obligations. There will be good replacements, the bands do change up…
blisskasdan . June 6, 2009 at 12:41 pm .
I /heart you! you always make so much sense.
Abrra
SB: I can totally understand why Alex needs to stay home -- with a new baby and all. I’m afraid David will probably lose Mike in a bit as well. But I’m sure they will help him find someone new and that is part of the business.
Hey Abrra…I make sense too!!! hahaha…really!!!!
Actually Abrra…on a ‘good’ day I make sense…
I disagree that the “young” fans are ONLY interested in “Who’s Cuter”. The fact that there are a million young people on YouTube putting up COVERS of David’s songs like “You Can” and “Somebody Out There” to me says that they are definitely paying attention to his music and are being inspired.
marlie…They have all been there to give a good kickoff to David’s career. Alex was quite busy as I recollect before he joined the band…there are other fine band people out there, thank heavens it is a musical world.
SB: I agree -- I’m thankful to them for going on tour both here and in the UK with him. He probably learned a lot from them.
dawn65 . June 6, 2009 at 2:44 pm .
What are you smokin? /wink
Abrra
bliss & SB- thanks for being positive… brought a smile to my heart. (been lurking.. needed to de-lurk to thank you).
What are you smokin? /wink
I am smoking a bit of reality ~ and time off
Bliss, you’re so wonderfully blissful (I might even say a bit naive), and I admire you for keeping the carefree perspective on David’s career, the way David obviously does. Cool. I, as most of you know, don’t roll that way.
Thanks for your concern though. Keep in mind that I already went to a David concert (where Gavin McGraw also performed), and attended it with an 11 year old, no less. So, screaming teenage fans aren’t my problem. However, when a certain pattern develops and when finances are a concern, then I have to pick and choose which concerts I go to. Don’t even try to jump to conclusions about what or what doesn’t make me comfortable in terms of my personal choices. If I were at all uncomfortable being a David fan, 1) I wouldn’t still be devoted and still here, and 2) I wouldn’t have started my own David blog.
Not trying to rain on anyone’s parade here, but obviously some don’t worry at all, while some of us do.
I’m back from my walk along the river on this be-u-tee-ful day!
And OH MY..I came back in and lo & behold, I can’t say too much anymore about concerns regarding David and how & why I think TPTB are making decisions on his behalf that may not be in David’s best interests (IMO), because it sounds negative?
Since when is TDC supposed to be all about “rainbows & unicorns”??
I love David as much as any other Fan. I support David as much, and I dare say, maybe MORE than some fans. By that I mean I have spent my hard earned money on VIP’s, plane fare, & hotel reservations, to travel across the country, east & west to see & support David, to hear him sing a few songs as an OPENER! I have multiple copies of the same cd’s and continue to purchase whatever merchandise is out there if I’m sure it will benefit David. That is how I support David, by putting money where my mouth is and where it will most benefit HIM. I don’t just talk the talk, I walk the walk. Thank you.
I do not like that David is on tour with a younger teen who is not fit to be on the same stage as David, and I won’t apologize for feeling this way. He is better than this and I do not think it will enhance his credibility with the people/ audiences who would truly appreciate his genius as a musician.
When I tell my co-workers HE is coming here to my city and I tell them they MUST see him perform. Then I have to explain he is OPENING for Demi Lovato..and EVERY SINGLE ADULT PERSON IN MY OFFICE has answered with a “WHO?” and a “oh”. I can’t promote my very favorite artist in the world to my own group of people in my own city simply because of who he’s touring with and in what capacity. That is very painful for me because I do love and admire David and he deserves so much more. I have a right to be upset and if I come across in a negative way, so be it. I just want to make sure I am never misunderstood regarding my complete devotion to David Archuleta for giving me my life back.
BTW, for those who are going to DEL MAR, this is the singer who is scheduled to open for David there…she is 13 and a local girl..I don’t know what happened to the other more seasoned performer who initially was scheduled..
Just one more point before I head out for the evening. If I somehow expressed any doubt in David, then I fear there has been miscommunication on my part.
What either SF or I or anyone else who’s expressed similar concerns have ever said was that certain decisions on the part of David’s management (and how this affects various aspects of his career or life) leaves little to be desired. How this translates to us thinking David is NOT happy or not doing what he loves to do or isn’t on top of the world (of course he is -- just look at him!) is beyond me.
Have I ever doubted David? NEVER! My doubts have always been with his management and label. Never with him. And for good reason. The music industry is NOTORIOUS for screwing over artists. I worry about David as a FAN, not some pretend mother. Why? Because I want David to be able to get high quality material (NOT bubble gum pop like a Hannah Montana duet, for example) that is worthy of him and my hard-earned money. I want to have a number of albums from David to choose from.
Honestly, I do find it irksome that those of us who dare to express any concerns or who isn’t involved in some kind of 24/7 cheerleading rally for him should be seen as irrational or something. We don’t always have to agree, do we? Or, is there an expectation that being a fan means you support David and all those on his team no matter what?
I didn’t get that memo when I chose to follow David.
HG..THANK YOU! You can say what I feel so much better than I ever could. I just get too emotional.
And have I told you recently…I absolutely LOVE your
Soul David blog!
SF, just saw your post as soon as I submitted mine. Ditto everything you said!
I respect everyone’s opinion here even though I may disagree at times. I will be a David Archuleta fan for LIFE that’s for sure. I look forward to him singing the National Anthem tonight, look forwad to his tour this summer and all the videos we will get to watch. David has touched everyone’s life young and old and I respect him for it and admire him deeply. For me, I am just truly blessed that this young man entered our lives, our generation. I am touched by his music and his character.
urmyangel…it is nice to hear from you. There are two ways to look at the workings of David’s career including the management. He is so joyful and productive himself, that he probably would like the same attitude from his fan friends…
SandyBeaches #280 I agree. David truly is a role model and when he says that he could focus on all the bad things but chooses to look at the positive side of life, that’s how I am. I may not agree or like how David is being marketed, but when I have no control over something I choose not to focus on it. All I know is David is a man of great character, inspiration, AMAZING vocal talent, the most HANDSOME looks, and no matter where his career takes him, I’ll be there. I’m his fan for life.
Hmmm. I think it’s just as okay to be on the positive side of this argument as to be on the negative. In other words, I don’t think anyone should be feeling like they can’t express what is on their mind. Sometimes one of us is going to get ribbed for being too negative, sometimes for being too positive. Although I teased before about all these posts making my head spin, I like that both sides are expressed. I DO go back and forth in my thinking -- I’m glad some of you know where you stand on these issues all the time. I don’t have an instant solid opinion all the time (sometimes I do -- and I express that as well) so hearing both sides is interesting to me.
Marlie7 -- you just read my mind, if hat’s possible. haha
I have been wanting to express that it’s ok to express both sides. I couldn’t have worded it better. Thanks.
David is so non-judgmental and positive that for the most part I try to think along those lines.
SB & Pabuckie -- I’ve always respected the different views on this site both the positive & negative. In fact, I invite other fans to visit this site because of the brilliant articles that are posted here.
We are ALL fans for life ~ I wasn’t under the assumption that just because you don’t get a warm fuzzy feeling about something ~ means your “fandom” is in jeapardy.
It’s happened to me a time or two or three, and now I see it happening with HG and SF. And quite frankly it irritates the heck out of me. I have a sore spot for anyone trying to take away or dismiss someone else’s feelings about something.
Each of us are entitled to our own feelings and opinions about things ~ and when someone tries to wash it away , even in humor or good spirit, it’s kind of condescending. Like ~ the person expressing themselves is forced into feeling like they have to defend themselves and their opinion…and oh my.. they are fickle fans. No ~ not a big fan of that.
Whenever someone expresses anything other than pom poms, puppies or kittens, posters rally to spread sunshine and derail in almost an attempt to validate that the naysayer is pessimistic or too negative.
I hate to see that it happened to SF and HG this time ~ because maybe I just know from frequent experience how that feels.
I can’t even tell you how tired I am of not having the argument, but having the posters that are just trying to vent some frustrations over a situation that YES, they have no control over… get their emotions handed back at them like their invalid.
I for one don’t post to seek validation ~ and I’m pretty sure SF and HG weren’t seeking validation , agreement , or support.
They just wanted to say their peace.
I guess to make everyone feel warm and fuzzy and “glass half full ” we should all just run around with our pompoms, stroking kitties.
There IS such a thing as bad management decisions. Hopefully David’s gift can outlast them.
“David is so non-judgmental and positive that for the most part I try to think along those lines.”
That’s GREAT ~ fantastic ~ and hopefully he stays that way for a long time.
I’m not judgemental but I don’t make a valiant effort to remain positive ~ I DO make an honest effort to be true to myself.
JUST like David does.
pabuckie and urmyangel: I know most of the time we are all pretty open here. I also know that we all (including me!) get invested in our thoughts and feelings. I always hope everyone feels like they can express themselves here and I also hate to think anyone has hurt feelings about it -- on either side. (softy that I am sometimes LOL)
There is one thing that rings true on both sides of every issue that gets debated here -- a love for all that is David. You can’t miss that in any comment here.
Marlie7 -- You were one of the reasons why I came back to lurk here… it had something to do about your comment concerning Jeff during David’s solo tour.
Hello all. I just wanted to jump in and say Silverfox and Hello Gorgeous….. I so appreciate reading your thoughts on all things David.
I have my concerns with some of the decisions being made in regards to David’s career. I have been a FAN from the start… the moment I heard him sing the first note at his AI audition. BAM !
I so want David to be taken seriously in the industry and I realize that takes time but I do have moments of frustration.
I am in the same opinion Silverfox #229:
Get ready to throw more tomatoes cause as much as I love to see David perform live, I am starting to think perhaps David should have foregone the summer tour and instead opted for a few solo venues and taken time to work on a quality album.
I do hope he has the appropriate amount of time for this album. ( fingers crossed )
I love David and have been fortunate enough to have seen him 4 times live but I will not be attending a summer show ( ducks )
Now, it is not just the nature of the show…. I have seen Demi before she opened for the Jonas Bros. ( we took our kids last summer) enough said, but he is not coming to Canada and this time I can not travel to the States … my hubby has said “no” due to the fact I am pregnant with our surprise 4th……
and my hubby will NOT go with.
I am disappointed but not so much…. I will wait… and see David solo again…. one day soon I hope ( baby in tow ha ha)
Anyways enough babbling…. thank you to all for the insightful and thought provoking chatting….
take care.
urmyangel: wow -- that’s nice to know! glad you delurked
ojs: Congratulations!
I hope my posts are not misconstrued. I choose to think positive and like I said don’t agree with marketing strategies of JIVE at times. Having worrisome and negative thoughts about it is fine and totally the other person’s feelings and opinion which should never be minimized or viewed as “Invalid”. That was never MY intent.
However, because I choose to think positive and and not focus so much on the negative should also not be minimized or made to feel “invalid”.
BOTH “negative” and “positive” viewoings has nothing to do with being A FAN FOR LIFE.
pabuckie, you go girl. David has influenced and inspired countless “kids’ to cover his music and will continue to do so in the months and years to come. David is a role model extraordinaire for aspiring singers of all ages. Look at those 2 young guys in Manilla who sang “Touch My Hand”. David is their hero, not their teen idol. I’ve seen many “covers” of David’s songs, sung by both boys and girls from all over the world. To think that David appeals to younger kids strictly because of his movie star looks is an insult to the intelligence and substance of so many of these young folks.
As for his “looks” I have read much gushing about just that subject from the “mature fans.” that post here, and I’ve done my share of it myself. David has so many wonderful qualities, and being mega- handsome is one of them. Were Paul Newman’s fans not real fans of his acting because they also thought he was handsome?’
Finally, when it comes to David, positivity is not naivety. It is quintessentially David to be positive and optimistic about all aspects of life. David loves and appreciates all his fans, and does not divide them into “types”. When I was on the line to get into the PC Richard theatre, I met David fans of all ages and nationalities. We had instant rapport because we were all “fans of David”. To think that we can influence David’s management because we “want” to is the very definition of naivety. They must be doing something right. David is one of the most “in demand” artists in the world. They won’t be right every time, but who is?
I am all about being true to MYSELF as well. My trying to be positive is not about warm fuzziness, puppies and kittens. Never has been. Everyone here is entitled to their opinions, good or bad, and no one should feel like just because they think “positive” is a BAD thing either. If I disagree with someone’s opinion, that does not mean I wash away, invalidate or dismiss THEIR feelings, I simply disagree and am stating my feeling.
ojs, David is the opening act. If all you want to do is see David, just leave after his set is over. Your suggestion that David should forgo a summer tour of this magnitude just because some people think it’s “beneath” him is a tad presumptuous. What makes you think that David, who is under contract, and a “new” talent, can make that decision? He’s not Clark Gable yet. He can’t have a solo tour just because he wants to. Jive is his employer, just like we all have employers. It’s their way or the highway.
just because some people think it’s “beneath” him is a tad presumptuous.
at least we should become more positive people
come on now, you have to get real.
These are some responses … so if anyone thinks their positivity is being scrutinized….read UP… it’s not like that at all.
Well, here we are…Imagine (there I use that word every day) that we are all at a family reunion and we are family members coming from everywhere talking about everything. You know family, hardly any two have the exact opinions and many have opposite opinions from each other…and they are family, different but together. So, we will carry on and hope that we do our best as we continue to admire David and his music. Oh, and have a fantastic time doing it!
OK: Here come the crazy off topic aunt to the reunion- who cannot spell or stay on topic:

NOW THAT’S MORE LIKE IT!
But I have a question…for anyone…
What is the good in harping on how it is or is not for David in regards to how he is managed, and who he shouldn’t be singing with? I am being sincere in requesting a reply to that and without attitude….I am simply curious.
SB
Thank you ‘dear aunt rae’ for the great news!!
I fed my kids a great dinner and am having a glass of wine and saluting all of you on this site. A year ago, I did not know anything about any of this, so I marvel that I am even here with a thought. I do have a bunch of other useless trivia floating around in my brain however…any one want to know about criminal or juvenile procedure? or advocates for abused kids? I am just so darn proud of our son/brother/grandson and all he has accomplished, especially all his charitable causes. I bet more in one year than some celebtities in a decade. Like a lawyer who can argue anything, I see great merits in what everyone has said about our boy. Lots of positive and caring energey in the universe for that one.
SB, the point is that we have no input in regards to who David appears with or where he does it. David is managed by a professional management company. We are the loyal fans, and speaking only for himself, any time i can be present where David is performing is a good day for me. I’ll take that every time, no matter who else is on the bill.

Well if everyone else felt like that, perhaps more tickets would have sold…
too bad that didn’t hold true.
Oh, that dang tweeterwall site -- it takes me at least three times to get in and half the time there is no + for me to click on David. I am no where near voting every 20 minutes, so it’s not that. Anyone else having trouble with that?
blisskasdan — perhaps you did not read my entire post. I am NOT not going to see David this summer JUST because he is the opening act for Demi…. I am from Canada which he is not visiting this tour and also I am pregnant and my husband does not want me to travel to the States. If I went I would of probably left after David as I have seen Demi before she opened for the Jonas Bros last summer --we took our kids.
My agreement was with another posters comment on David foregoing the summer tour to work on his music etc-- and yes, I might wish things were different and perhaps he was going to be spending more time working on his album, writing songs, playing smaller intimate venues…… does this mean I am saying I don’t understand that he has commitments, and a record company to deal with—- I get it.
I have my own views on how I want things to go for David— maybe I am wishful thinking….but I support him regardless always have and always will.
Maybe read my post again …thanks.
Dawn, can you give me a breakdown of the ticket sales at all the venues? What are the numbers? These concert are weeks and , in some cases, months away. I’m sure more tickets will be sold
Yep I have trouble with that twitterwall also.
Don’t want to stir things up again but as I said earlier- those venues were way to big for DL from the get go. At least in the Tampa area there are smaller but really nice venues that could have been booked. Will be interesting to see as this rolls out what happens.
I remember about 4 years back or so? Alicia Keys came to Tampa. She was in a smaller venue that did not sell out. Neverthless she got rave reviews from her show.
I’m sure more tickets will be sold ~ of course they will.. especially at 11 dollars a pop. I wonder what David’s cut of that is.
I hope he does get good reviews.. I hope he gets SOMETHING out of this.
of course with my sense of time and space it may have been even longer ago that she was here….I mean I thought Don’t Worry, be happy, which reminds me of Works for me was 10 years ago, until someone said it was 20!
Yep, that blankety blank press better be good to him. They don’t play him here and that St. Pete Times entertainment editor was brutal to David last year. Have a nice night all!
bliss 3301…thank you for your response. I am a little surprised even now, that we think how he is being managed and who he is singing with can be a concern of ours. Unless something is going terribly wrong…really it is his business and not ours….
don’t anyone look for 3301 but try #301…
Dear Lord, I am back- must be the wine. SB: Never having commented on a blog, I think that issues like management and business decisions are fair game for discussion. As far as whether it will make a difference or not? Well one never knows….. Tons of fan pressure and rave reviews seem to have influenced at least some type of release for ZG… so I say POWER TO THE LITTLE PEOPLE..
marlie7 # 303
Same here! What’s going on?
Valbraz -- they said they had extended the voting because of server issues. They are still having them -- it is frustrating. It should be easy.
rea…#312..how do you know what made Jive decide to release ZG? Could it be that they read reviews, or a Jive exec. went to a concert, or they saw for themselves the response let’s say at a concert in Manila or just about anywhere? Maybe they spoke with heaven knows…David?
You yourself think that all of that is fair game but…are you then setting the rules? Should we go on and on about something that people know very little about such as the details of his management? There is a line in regards to what makes us look nosey or starting runors and we cross that line.
If people want to help David because they think he is being placed in a bad situation then write a letter to his management and go through the proper channels because for them it is business and I doubt that they read fan sites.
No other site gets this involvesd in the personal aspects of David’s career and I wonder why that is?
“No other site gets this involvesd in the personal aspects of David’s career and I wonder why that is?”
From About US
You’ve come to a place that celebrates the artistry and inspiration of David Archuleta, a place that focuses not so much on the latest morsel of news or the most recent photograph, but on an exploration — through analysis, discussion, poetry, art, and even criticism – of just what it is that is so unique and compelling about this young singer. You’ll find articles, images, videos, resources, and a lively, diverse, and perhaps occasionally irreverent community of pretty serious David fans.
dawn…where in the celebration of the artistry and inspiration of David Archuleta does extensive talking about his personal business management fit?
If yoou so seriously want to talk about his business then the site is yours.
David’s National Anthem:
Dawn #285
I agree with everything you said.
The day this becomes a cheerleading, pom-pom-waving site is the day it becomes redundant and irrelevant -- this post has already been filled brilliantly.
I’m sure David appreciates positivy but I believe he values discernment, too. And I think posters here combine both qualities!
By the way, I’m all for kitty-stroking!
Here’s a clip of David just before he sang the NA at the game tonight…Gorgeous as usual…
i’m here with my boxing gloves…thought they were in order….
ring…. round one goes to
And it’s the WWF line up for tonight! In this corner we have….
He takes my breath away..always, no matter what or where he sings, he just takes my breath away!
Contigo siempre con amor!
hi marlie- seems we could distribute jerseys… sunny yellow and dour grey….

1. pick a side.
2. you can switch sides at any time
3. throwing gasoline on the fire is encouraged (that is why I showed up
I usually like yellow in the morning -- sometimes by the end of the day dour grey works for me. So, yes, I will often switch sides. Gasoline…hmmmmmmmmm, I’ll have to think on that for a minute.
SF-just a teaser? no vid of the anthem?
Happy -- look up several comments. I can’t stand it when people come in and don’t read the comments and then ….. comment.
Dear happy and marlie…I am not going to try to defend David’s privacy any longer. I have done that for him and that is all that matters to me. Blisskasdan tried and some listened. This is not a cheer leading whatever site and never was, or is any other site.
The videos of David are beautiful…
marlie- no need to be so snarky… everyone is getting along so well today and here you come all hostile….
oh, my god, happy -- go eat some of those brownies and sweeten yourself up
marlie, my love, it is you who needs the brownies…i need to get over my spankin’…..
You need to thicken up your skin, babe.
Are you two just humorous or is it the brownies?
marlie-why? so that my skin can look like yours?
So I can smack you one more time.
jeez, SB -- you are on to us.
go ahead…I might come to likin’ it…………
