More Than Inspiration
The Curious Case of Michael & David

Being the slightly obsessed Archie that I am, one of my first thoughts upon hearing of the death of Michael Jackson was concern for David. How would he manage having to be onstage just hours after learning of the death of one of his icons, a primary source of his own musical inspiration? I was gratified to see, this morning, that David not only powered through his performance last night, but also shared a moment of tribute to Michael and sympathy for his family. I also got to thinking that Michael probably represented for David considerably more than musical inspiration alone, significant as that might be. Even if it was subconscious, I suspect there was a strong sense of identification with Michael on David’s part, due to some unique and undeniable similarities between them.
The shared experiences of Michael Jackson and David Archuleta go well beyond a prodigal talent that was capitalized at a young age. Both soulful pop princes with an obsession for the music charts, they have each expressed a deep sympathy for children and a predilection for childish indulgences. David has confessed to being reclusive and remote at certain points in his young life, a trait that Michael Jackson cultivated into an art. Even an association with controversial religions is a shared aspect. Like David, Michael had a gentle, soft demeanor that was associated with both feminization and ambiguous sexuality. In Michael’s case, he augmented that impression with a perpetual evolution toward physical androgyny. And both artists shared the experience of selfish, severe fathers who were at once responsible for their sons’ musical opportunity, and the cause of much of their emotional turmoil.
In later years, Michael (as well as a number of his siblings) was candid about the impact of his father’s behavior on his life, and much has been revealed through biographical investigations. The always incisive and occasionally controversial Andrew Sullivan summed it up this way:
There are two things to say about him. He was a musical genius; and he was an abused child. By abuse, I do not mean sexual abuse; I mean he was used brutally and callously for money, and clearly imprisoned by a tyrannical father. He had no real childhood and spent much of his later life struggling to get one. He was spiritually and psychologically raped at a very early age – and never recovered. Watching him change his race, his age, and almost his gender, you saw a tortured soul seeking what the rest of us take for granted: a normal life.
But he had no compass to find one; no real friends to support and advise him; and money and fame imprisoned him in the delusions of narcissism and self-indulgence. Of course, he bears responsibility for his bizarre life. But the damage done to him by his own family and then by all those motivated more by money and power than by faith and love was irreparable in the end.
The circumstances of Michael Jackson are ultimately tragic, even as he brought joy to more people at one time on the planet than perhaps any other performer in history. Reading about his life at the end of his life made me sad for Michael, but heartened for David. For even in light of some unusual similarities, the fundamental differences are, I believe, more profound.
The fact that David was not an international superstar by the age of eleven confers enormous advantages upon him. David was nearly an adult by the time his star truly began to rise, and even though his childhood was by all indications far from ideal, at least he had one. Whether because of its early seduction in his life or because of some innate character trait, fame and its trappings were an opiate for Michael Jackson. Maureen Orth, author of the infamous Vanity Fair article on Jackson, reported last night that he spent considerable resources seeking to be accorded lifetime achievement awards all over the world. That kind of behavior is about as antithetical to the nature of David Archuleta as one can possibly get. Can you imagine David actually seeking accolades? He can barely endure the ones he already gets.
David has taken a host of similar challenges and opportunities, traits and circumstances, and appears to be molding them in a fundamentally different direction than did Michael Jackson. In stark contrast to his idol, I imagine that David would be perfectly content if all the fame and money (such as it is), disappeared tomorrow. While Jackson’s burning desires were as much about renown and power as they were about music, David’s values are decidedly more focused and grounded. And because, unlike Michael, David is not the type to be seduced by sycophants wielding all manner of ego fertilizer, I am optimistic that the control he exerts over his own fates and fortunes will increase rather than falter as time goes on, and that his focus and his values will remain grounded, even as he soars to greater and greater heights of artistic and professional achievement.
–Rascal

Rascal, love, love, LOVE the insignia! Seriously!
Great aricle, rascal.
“…I am optimistic that the control he exerts over his own fates and fortunes will increase rather than falter as time goes on, and that his focus and his values will remain grounded, even as he soars…”
Me, too.
“David’s values are decidedly more focused and grounded. And because, unlike Michael, David is not the type to be seduced by sycophants wielding all manner of ego fertilizer”
I agree wholeheartedly. David has a steel spine and mental strength only exceeded by his life values. I have no worries for him in that regard.
Rascal, I too believe David is grounded and is not as likely to get caught up in narcissistic and self-indulgent behavior. But, superstardom status does weird stuff to artists who achieve it, so let us hope David can stay grounded should his star rise and shine as brightly.
I for one am taking Maureen Orth’s report with a grain of salt. Not to mention that, after being vilified as he had in the media for more than a decade, do you blame the guy for trying to gain the accolades he once received in his heyday?
I mean, I’m reading comments from various folks who are truly surprised at the outpouring of love for Michael upon his death, considering that he was a “tabloid joke” the day before.
I have my own conspiracy theory (seeing that I’m always distrustful of labels) since I’ve noticed that, any artist who goes up against SONY, usually take a hit on their public image. Not just MJ, think Prince, think Mariah Carey. Yes, Michael Jackson nurtured his own bizarre persona, but I’m not ruling out other aspects that have contributed to his downfall.
Be that as it may, I don’t see David getting into any musical battles -- he definitely displays a certain savvy in working with others. But I do agree with Silverfox, who says that he needs to be supported by the right kinds of friends and relatives.
From previous thread….
Everything in life comes with a price. The price of fame and success appears to be isolation and distancing from the life one knew before. That’s what invites the excesses and abuse of drugs, booze, etc. I remember hearing Grace Slick (jefferson Airplane) saying that the only reason she survived her fame was that she never used drugs alone and there were always people around her to save her when she overdosed. Look at Andy Gibb. His death certificate should list “cause of death” as “Fame”.
Eventually, David will do something that will not be “saintly”. He has to, damn it. (LOL) When that happens, let’s all not be shocked and devastated. One of the ways that people become isolated from society is by being seen as immune from the pitfalls and foibles that everyone else experiences. David is flesh and blood. He knows he is, and he’s fine with it. We need to be fine with it too. I will say that “flesh and blood’ never looked as good as it does on David, and I never knew that “flesh and blood” could sing so well.
Rascal, thought provoking and eloquent as usual. Still digesting the similarities and disparities of Michael and David, there is a commonality for certain. Time will tell about the rest.
HG, you are speaking to the choir for sure, as I truly understand and agree with your theory. I take up residence on the grassy knoll on occasion, and definitely have seem evidence of the hits that people have taken with dealing with certain entities.
Oh, as for searching for accolades…and drawing a link that it wasn’t about the music…nah, I think for Michael it was always about the music. I think part of the problem was that it wasn’t always allowed to be about the music. My favorite celebrity quote so far has been from Sean Combs, to paraphrase he said Michael made him believe in magic, that he showed that you can actually see the beat…yes, I think it was ultimately all about the music.
Rascal ~ nice ~ as always ~ and I don’t mean “nice” as in.. oh that’s nice.. I mean it like.. niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiccccceeeeeeeeeee.
I’d like to believe ~ David is going to be the one to break the norm.
I’d like to believe David CAN stay grounded..he has such a clear idea of who he is ~ what he stands for ~ his principals ~ his morals ~ and his humbleness I HOPE will always prevail.
I remember recently watching a docu/comedy by Jamie Kennedy called Heckler ~ and I recall someone saying ~ that the fans initially lift the artist up ~ higher and higher ~ until they raise the artist SO high ~ the artist no longer appears attainable. Those same fans ~ now turn on the artist because they appear “better” than the rest of us folk. ( I’m paraphrasing obviously).
I can definately see where that happened with MJ. Fiercly loved all over the world ~ the one persona he could assume that contradicted his inner shy awkward self, was again unable to make personal connections because of the volume of his fame.
I sincerely hope ~ young and old ~ have an opportunity to really understand that David’s support ~ is not only about buying, supporting, voting, and believing in him, but it’s also respecting him AS a person, understanding the sacrifices he makes on a daily basis to pursue his love of music and to share it with us ~ earns him the right to be HUMAN. I hope someday .. David can find a way in this industry ~ to become a legend ~ through not only his music ~ but through his ability to remain REAL.
I’ve spent the day watching MJ videos and listening to his many amazing songs on radio. It’s been both exhiliarating and saddening. Early this morning I found myself dancing, yes dancing as I dressed for work to The Way you Make Me Feel. All the poppers, lockers, rappers, dancers, hip hop singers and well, pretty much everyone, owe MJ a huge debt. He did it all first and he did it better than anyone since. Singing and dancing simultaneously was his artform.
I really enjoyed this post by Rascal and I have absolute confidence that David will take a healthy path and realize his immense potential. Ever since his first rehearsals and sessions for the album it was abundantly clear that David was in charge and making decisions. Yes he is incredibly accommodating, but he has a will of steel. I believe in him. Always have, always will.
David spoke with “Popeater” about Michael Jackson…
Just as Michael Jackson shot to fame at a young age, David Archuleta is in the beginning stages of his career while only a teenager. And like countless other peers and fans, the singer is already feeling the loss of the King of Pop.
“I’m really devastated to see the loss of such an amazing and inspiring artist,” Archuleta tells PopEater. “Michael Jackson has been one of the most influential artists to me and so many other people around the world.”
The ‘American Idol’ singer urges others to remember Jackson for his prolific contributions to the pop world. Archuleta says to PopEater, “While I’m really sad to hear that he has passed, I hope that the people will now appreciate the amazing work he did and not focus on the hardships he faced.”
Re: That PopEater article…
“While I’m really sad to hear that he has passed, I hope that the people will now appreciate the amazing work he did and not focus on the hardships he faced.”
Look at the way he handled that interview!
David himself knows first hand how the media focuses on the private lives of artists rather than their “art”. I love the way he acknowledges this aspect and gently leads everyone in the more appropriate direction of appreciating MJ’s musical accomplishments.
I think this young man could be a politician some day! OMG…did I just say that????
Yes, David is very savvy. Hey Dawn65!!
So glad you’ve joined us again.
You already raise an important point about how fans build up our artists so high. Look, this is the same fan base that creates art imagery of David with angel wings and halos (and I’m guilty for making videos featuring them). This is the same fan base that spams gay news sites because they dare to speculate on his sexuality. This is the same fan base that came to blows not too long ago because we disagreed on whether to speak or not speak on Daddygate and, when doing so, disagreed on the parameters of that discussion.
And this is just happening on the level of a subculture called the Arch Angels. Whatever will David’s stardom be like if this movement goes global?
I’d like to think that there isn’t a pattern with regards to the Superstar persona, in which icons must meet with a tragic end -- Elvis, Michael, Marilyn, John Lennon -- but then, as Dawn asked, can David break the cycle, or is he going to deliberately avoid climbing to that level?
Brooklyndawn, yes, hanging out on the grassy knoll leads to some intriguing findings.
As I mentioned on the previous thread, David’s concert last night had a subtle sense of respect for the news that we had all just learned. Actually, I heard the news from the usher who was leading us to our seats. David followed an opening act shortly after. There was a “the show must go on” feel and David brought the house down with one fantastic performance after another. David was thrown a professional curveball, and he still hit it out of the park. When he mentioned MJs passing, it was right before he sang :”You Can”, not “Zero Gravity”. Classy, classy, classy. My affection and respect for David increases at a rate equalled only by his Twitter followers.
All through the night I have been watching MJ tributes and vids on BETtv and have filled many a bucket with my tears, I am sure.
There was a gentleman on last noc who was being interviewed-unfortunately I do not recall his name. He managed the J5 the first year and a half of their career. He recalled a Diana Ross concert that the J5 attended when of course MJ was quite young and this man was seated right behind them in the audience. He said there was a song that Diana sang in which she engaged the audience to sing along with her. At some point she came to where MJ was sitting and held the mic to him. He took the mic, proceeded to go up to the stage, and sang his heart out for approx 6 min. He then went quietly back to his seat. The point being made was that MJ was very quiet and humble when speaking-his then mg. said sometimes u could barely hear what he was saying-but when he performs, he is a TOTALLY different person. He goes from being humble and super-shy-to confident and explosive on stage-then immediately back to the introvert. This example reminded me quite alot of David. In fact, along with my eyes burning with tears, goosebumps emerged all over my bod.
Just wanted to share this with someone who actually cares:TDC. No one here at my residence wants to hear any comparisons re:MJ and DA.
Respectfully,
Jello.
Off Topic. If you want to see something truly amazing, go take a look at the current iTunes Top 100 Chart.
#2 Man in the Mirror
#4 Thriller
#5 The Way You Make Me Feel
#6 Don’t Stop ‘Til You Get
#9 Smooth Criminal
and on and on and on. Almost half of the 100 entries (I counted 44 of them) are for MJ or for The Jackson 5.
I saw that olemr#14. I just wish that MJ could overtake Blackeyed Peas.
Thank u,
Jello.
Jello, Those charts are changing rapidly, and the weekend is upon us, so I am expecting MJ to overtake Blackeyed Peas. Also, thanks for sharing post #13!
Thank you for the amazing post, Rascal. Your articles are always so well written. I also feel that David is incredibly down to earth and secure in his values -- wish I had been that grounded at that age! He is also so respectful and diplomatic without being insincere. I have just received my all access pass itinerary for Wednesday and I am so excited I don’t know what to do with myself!!! Thank goodness for you guys who understand my ODD!!
olemr2001 and jello: I just checked out iTunes, and the Top 9 Pop albums all belong to Michael Jackson. Black Eyed Peas is #10.
Q&A at M&G tweets
Oh, a guy asked if there were any plans for an unplugged album cuz his voice sounds best on its own.
David said he was glad the guy thought that cuz usually all the production stuff is to cover up…
..the fact that the person can’t sing. Then said the unplugged route was what he wanted to go down.
No one knows what the future really holds for David. Watching the MJ coverage makes me question if we really want him to be a superstar. It seems so difficult to live a life in the mega-spotlight without it ending in real tragedy -- not just a mis-step here or there, but with the people we idolize and admire ending their lives too soon and as shells of their former selves.
Part of me thinks that if David can’t have a fabulous, even iconic career without self-destructing, then no one can. It would be marvelous and life-affirming to see it happen. But then I worry about putting too much pressure on him when he already puts so much pressure on himself and I end up conflicted.
Right now he seems to be clinging tightly with both hands to the values he cherishes and that keep him grounded. As long as he continues to do that, I guess I won’t worry.
momJulee {{{hugs}}}.
David seems to be in good spirits. He’s taking care of business. He makes my day, every day! I’m not sure I can wait til July 28 when my sis & I see him in Pittsburgh. That’s a whole month away! Checking weekend venues before Pittsburgh…hmmmm, Las Vegas July 18…interesting. But I’m rambling!
I do have something I want to ask everyone. Am I the only one who really never thought David was “painfully” quiet & shy. I thought he acted like a normal, very polite teen when he auditioned for AI. He was happy, out-going and polite in all the subsequent pre-performance interviews before & after Heaven, before Shop Around and Imagine. Then as I said before, it was as if a spark went out in his eyes after that, and his demeanor changed. He became nervous and no longer sure of himself, whereas before, he was confident but not cocky, and not shy or quiet, just very polite. After AI, in some interviews, he seemed very unsure about what & how to say what he had to say at times. In some interviews he came across as immature and shy, but to me it was his way of responding to the interviewer. David seems to have this inner radar and knows instinctively who he can be himself with. There were several interviews when he was himself, comfortable, confident and not at all the shy & quiet kid so many people describe. He is very polite, never cocky, which comes across as very shy. We should all be so shy. And did I mention his dry wit?
I guess I’m in the minority here, but this is JMO.
David’s tweet today about his visit to Whole Foods points out that he’s still able to have some freedom to live his life, although we all know he gets interrupted a lot. What I would never want for him is the paparazie horde hounding him and cameras recording his every breath. I’m not sure how any of those huge stars retain sanity or perspective. I want him to have some fun and do those silly things he loves without every moment scrutinized. Not sure if this is possible but I sure hope so. We have to be careful what we wish for when it comes to celebrity.
I’m with you SF. His early time on AI showed me a very confident, relaxed typical kid with an immense talent. He’d been around. Remember he said, when asked about nervousness, “I’ve done this a lot.” The scope of the celebrity and the restrictions placed by Idol on everything he said and did probably caused the guarded, uncomfortable demeanor. He had lots of great interviews post Idol and he’s gotten better all the time. I think he’s just reverting back to who he’s been all along. This coupled with the tremendous leap in his performance confidence shows me he’s got it all back and all goin’ on.
Great article, as usual, Rascal.
I love the art work! What a great concept and thought-provoking contrast -- the crown and the wings.
I expect David to go for the wings, but to end up with the crown too, as a natural recognition of his god-given talent.
Of course, unconditional fans hope for the best but prepare for the worst, human nature being what it is. I want to believe that David’s love story with his fandom will conquer all and grow stronger no matter what. He is blessed!
Finally was able to articulate my thoughts on Michael Jackson and David, if anyone wants to read:
http://souldavid.wordpress.com/
Sf: I am with you-
“Am I the only one who really never thought David was “painfully” quiet & shy. He became nervous and no longer sure of himself, whereas before, he was confident but not cocky, and not shy or quiet, just very polite’
When that happened is when I started to worry myself sick over how he was holding up under the stress.
SF, I’ve always read David as reserved and self-protective more than shy, which is why he reacts differently depending on the interviewer.
Why only one day after Michael Jackson has died are we even taking the time from a tribute to Michael’s life to compare his life to David’s? I can’t imagine that David would want today, of all days, to be compared to his fallen musical hero.
The pictures that are awesome of Michael (speak a thousand words for themselves) could have been left above the new article as a tribute to Michael at least for one more day. We have forever to speak about David and Michael in the same breath. Michael’s death happened only hours ago.
Even though this is The David Chronicles, perhaps we can for more then one brief moment in time, pause and pay tribute along with the rest of the world.
I can’t imagine comparing David to someone while the deceased’s family and friends are still in a state of shock and disbelief.
(lumbering in….dragging a GIANT soapbox….) we are not going to fight about whether we should or shouldn’t be posting comparison’s about MJ and DJ today or any day…any disgruntled commenters that suggest we get into such a disagreement will be sent to their room by me…. so choose your words carefully.
SB, I understand how you feel, honestly I do, but have you seen David’s tweet? He is going on as usual. The show is still going on as usual. It doesn’t mean he is not thinking about Michael or Michael’s family. I certainly didn’t mean any disrespect to Michael in any of my posts today or last night. I don’t think anyone did. We will not soon forget Michael. I would not be surprised if David adds one of Michael’s songs to his set, maybe not right away, but at some point, as a tribute to Michael.
Was that ok, happy?
Good night all. And for David..
Dear Lord,
Please take care of David. Watch over him, protect him from all harm. Cloak him with your love and give him the strength to endure all that is thrown in his path. Give David the courage and guidance to say no to those who ask for more than he can reasonably give. Surround David with loving and supportive people who love him UNCONDITIONALLY as we, his Archangels do. Separate David from those who have agendas other than for his well being. Give him rest when he’s weary. Give him the stamina to sustain his hectic pace. Give him assurance when he feels doubt. Give him joy when he feels sad. Cloak him always in your protective arms during this time on his journey. Keep David and and his voice healthy & strong as he fulfills his Destiny which was written in his Book of Life before he was born. And please Lord, give us, David’s forever fans, the wisdom to know when and how to do right by David. Open our eyes and help us in the way we support David so that it’s always in his best interests. May his positive and good Karma continue to attract those with positive and good Karma! May he continue to encounter goodwill and happiness! May he continue to be healthy and strong wherever his journey leads him. Though we may be unworthy, we humbly pray. Amen
David, hope you have a good night’s sleep & sweet dreams. Keep with you all our love, prayers and warm thoughts! We will always love you madly! REMEMBER, if you are ever in need of help, tweet us an SOS and your Archangels will be there in a flash!
Contigo siempre con amor!

JR -- you are the BEST!!!!!
SF -- Here’s the one I’d love to hear David sing as a tribute to Michael. So fitting.
Like a Comet blazing cross the evening sky, Gone Too Soon…
(hope I embed this right
daffy..I thought the same thing when I heard it today. David’s is the only voice who can do right by this beautiful song, IMO.
daffyfordavid,
WOW, you certainly found the perfect MJ song for David. I can only imagine what he could do with this song. Especially if he was to do it as a tribute. David already has sooo much feeling and passion when he sings. Gone Too Soon from him would more than likely be the “weeper” ballad we’ve all talked about.
RASCAL -- great read as usual. David is a sponge. He has shown a good degree of predilection for learning and use the latter wisely. He has a couple of times mentioned about seeing the ways -- upright & misdirected -- of his idols. More than inspiration indeed, cos he has a lot of case studies before him to learn from. And this his an advantage where I draw solace from, wrt to his future.
Thanks for the article.
GUYS -- TMH, YOU CAN, DLG, WFM & ZG added to the BOSTON TOUR PAGE
I will always love Crush. I’ll never forget how excited I was for him when it first played.
Rascal -- Thank you for this thoughtful post and reality check(list) -- at least for me. Am so relieved that David won’t be headed for a disastrous fate if we wish him (support him) too much success. I was developing an anxiety attack reading in the previous post about the cost of fame and the probable unfortunate demise of our beloved David.
Dawn -- MISSED YOU and the Fangirl!! Love your perspective. Like SF, it comes from the heart.
“I sincerely hope ~ young and old ~ have an opportunity to really understand that David’s support ~ is not only about buying, supporting, voting, and believing in him, but it’s also respecting him AS a person, understanding the sacrifices he makes on a daily basis to pursue his love of music and to share it with us ~ earns him the right to be HUMAN. jello#15 -- “Just wanted to share this with someone who actually cares:TDC. No one here at my residence wants to hear any comparisons re:MJ and DA.”
I don’t even bother anymore. Just wait for someone to comment on DJA before I even mutter a word. I apologize in advance but I cringed at every comparison (MJ & DJA) that my mind was making while listening to CNN. You know it was that sinking feeling……
Rascal, just read your article and just want to give a big BRAVO.
Been working on my own article so haven’t had a chance to read other comments. Alright, back to the drawing board!
And R.I.P. Michael <3
JR couldn’t view Boston Barriers
oops guess that isn’t Barriers, after all
David continually surprises. Why is this? Shouldn’t we know him by now? Most people, for instance, assumed the recent bad publicity would negatively affect his tour performances. To our delight he’s performing better than ever. So why did we get it wrong?
Remember when Cook invited David to do some handstands? It ended up with David’s showing terrific form and Cook’s making excuses. The kid was athletic--but who knew? David just didn’t seem the athletic type--so we assumed just the opposite. One fan in Malaysia who hugged him mentioned how surprised she was that his body felt so hard and muscular. That same athleticism is now becoming more apparent to the rest of us as he bounces around the stage without missing a beat. Yet it’s only now emerging as a recognizable aspect of David persona.
My point is that many of his fans still don’t clearly have David in focus. He talks and acts like somebody who needs mothering, somebody extremely sensitive, someone needful of protection. But the real David is somebody else with steely inner strength.
David himself is constantly putting out mixed signals. A lot of people still see only the friendly self David wants them to see. But the real David is more hidden, emerging mostly while performing or while managing his life’s ambition.
When singing the transformation is often extreme. He becomes another self--more confident, sexier, often angst-ridden, even aggressive. The real David also emerges in the way he confronts difficulties. He’s the gutsy kid who pushes forward to do what needs to be done despite personal setbacks, despite bad press, despite sickness, despite sleep deprivation, whatever. That’s the real David--someone as strong and ambitious as he is savvy.
Here’s one way MJ and David differ--but it speaks volumes.
In an interview with Bankrate recently there was this exchange:
Bankrate: With all this fame happening so fast, have your parents talked to you about how to be smart with your money?
David Archuleta: Oh, yeah. I’ve always been cautious with money anyway. I hate spending money. It’s really interesting to see the business side. … I’ve performed a lot and I always loved singing, but seeing the business side of the entertainment world is really interesting. There’s a lot that goes into it, a lot of people involved in making sure you do the right things with your money and don’t spend too much, because a lot of people go bankrupt with these kinds of things. People think you’re rich if you’re well known, but (you’re) not really. There’s a lot of money that was put into this project. I guess in becoming really successful, writing comes into play with credits and stuff. It’s really important to be smart with the way you spend your money.
Bankrate: So what is the most important lesson you’ve learned about being smart with your money?
David Archuleta: There are so many things. One thing I was really interested in was the different costs for songs — how much money went to complete a song, and also promotion and advertising and production of songs, (and) how different writers and producers have different rates. I thought it was interesting to see how it differentiates, and how it comes down to management, how there are percentages for all of that, and then the label and everything it’s doing.
Good morning everyone! Thanks to such a wonderful devoted group of fans sharing their concert experiences -- the Boston videos seem the clearest both visually and aurally. And is that shirt the same one David wore when singing Love Me Tender on AI?
So, I realize the Five Stages of Grief is very much a reality. After Denial (what?! Michael Jackson is dead?!! Unbelievable!!!!) does come Anger, and boy, let me tell ya, at some point during the news coverage last night, I had to turn off the TV since I was screaming expletives and calling a friend of mine to share in our grief and our seething rage and hatred. We were getting so angry at the media because they couldn’t even wait longer than 24 hours to start back on their Michael Jackson freak show coverage.
OMG! Once the rumors started flying about Demerol and once they started in on his “bizarre” lifestyle, I just started cussing up a storm, Chris-Crocker-style:
“Leave Michael alone!!! He’s dead! You disgusting, vile vultures drove the man to an early grave! You hounded and hounded him for FIFTEEN YEARS and now that he’s dead, you wanna pick his bones dry??!!”
Yep, I’m definitely at the Anger stage of my grief. What’s the next step?
And yes, now that I see Hollywood has a horrendous record for their child stars and superstars -- Judy Garland, Marilyn Monroe, Elvis Presley, and now Michael Jackson -- I cannot wish this fate on David. Keep a low profile, my sweet David.
Perhaps we Arch Angel should require exclusive membership for the fan base.
Speaking of media and their obsession with digging dirt on pop stars, here’s a quote I found from the NY Daily News:
“The policeman who arrested David Archuleta’s dad in a prostitution sting gets his own interview with Us Weekly. He says he found Jeff Archuleta , 47, butt-naked with a masseuse clad only in lace underwear. Then, like any American with values, the officer said, “Why couldn’t you let David choose his own songs???” and booked him.

I went to the Boston show Friday night. I took full videos from the big screen (with a few pans down to the stage). I need a week to get them from the camera to my PC(its on order). I will post a link to my youtube when its done.
David was on his game full tilt in Boston. He had the packed arena eating out of his outstretched hand. I showed up at the box office and bought a seat to the right side of the stage. I had a nice view of the stage and access to the big screen to tape the show. Love it when the stars align and things work for me.
KSM was a respectable teen-girl band. They played well but I didn’t understand much fo the lyrics. LOUD does not describe adequately the vibrations coming out of the sound system. There was a very Disney feel to the music. Their set was 20 min long.
When it was time for David, I watched intensely for the moment he took the stage behind the sheer veil curtain. He is a true ninja. In a blink he was standing there behind the veil waiting for the heartbeat (thump, thump, thump, thump)to signal the fall of the veil. he gave a quick wave just before it dropped. Whoever thought up that opening needs a raise! My hope is that more dramatic staging will be added when he does his next solo tour. A N T I C I P A T I O N!
Dressed in baby blue buttoned dress shirt( someone please get him an iron? or a stylist), WELL fitting jeans and dark sneakers, he owned the whole stage. There were 3 runways out front and he used them continuously to maintain he contact with the fans. I think his performance skills improve by the HOUR! He seemed a bit rushed between songs. There was minimal banter. He did introduce the band and gave the standard “Hi band!” afterward. So very charming he is
The best part of the banter was before the final song Crush. He gave a short thank you to Demi, then a long thank you to the fans for supporting him. He said that he was here because they supported him and then dedicated Crush to the fans.
When he finished, I watched him run off stage right(waving like a wild man) and turn to look back one last time.Somehow a secret passageway then swallowed him up. My night of bliss was finished. I left the arena to a lovely twilight night and walked to my car.
Abrra( who is no longer on speaking terms with the condescending lady who lives in her GPS) RECALCULATING!
HG!!!!!!
I haven’t clicked your link. I just got home from doing groceries, dinner with my kids and now am back in my laptop to do some work, well… couldn’t help checking in here…
Have passed the denial stage and and am still grieving. Am so afraid of what the autopsy will reveal… esp after what LizaM said that all hell will break loose after we get the results… This is the part of fame that I abhor… when a well loved artist, after giving his all to the world, is displayed like a museum piece. I hate it and for once, am thankful he is now resting in peace!
Then that post at #51 got me laughing so hard! Ohmy…
daffyfordavid #38, thank you for posting that video of MJ. So moving! Would be perfect for David.
ABRRA -- thank you so much for quickly sharing your Boston experience. Can’t wait for your vids and yes please number them! May I request that you prioritize uploading My Hands and Barriers or TBWY cos so far no one has uploaded them.
Abrra: Thanks for the wonderful review! I keep thinking I should buy a ticket for a concert THIS WEEK! But alas, work calls, and I have to wait until August, unless Publisher’s Clearinghouse pulls up to my front porch with a giant check. LOL. Then it would be grab a van and follow the tour for the summer and meet all the people for real that I’ve met online.
Hey, I can dream can’t I?
Abrra — Fantastic review. I think David does quite well as his own stylist, actually. The style of those shirts is unironed (they are actually more expensive if they are wrinkled just so… go figure).
Excellent review, Abrra -- thanks for the recap!
JR, I couldn’t help myself: I burst out laughing too.
Rascal . June 27, 2009 at 10:38 am
Call me silly. I would love to see him in fitted shirts that are at least perma press? That shirt was HUGE on him.
Oh and ty for the /nod. not sure I will be as relaxed when I do the back to back VIP with that Fangirl Dawn.
HG & Marlie(go buy a ticket at the box office! /cough call in sick to your client)
Thanks!

EH? Number them how? In the youtube name? Once I get on a roll uploading them I will post my page link.I will post them in set list order. I am officially the Queen of Uploading as well as Queen of Spam.
Abrra of many crowns
Abrra ~ nice review ~ so descriptive ~ and so on the spur of the moment. I love that ~ let me just run off to see David tonight. An upside to a large arena with seats left..who’d have thunk it
HG #51 ~ Thank you does NOT cover it ~
fanda #43 ~ aww I missed you too ~ don’t plan on seeing fangirl any time soon ~ she is on strict lockdown indefinately ~ every attempt to keep her at bay was an EPIC failure and she completely mortified me on thursday ~ collectively we must hope beyond hope that DAVID doesn’t remember fangirl, but chances are quite slim .. she made QUITE the impression.. and we’ll just leave it at that… oye.
Other than THAT catastrophe ~ Dawn is in her happy place ~ David is touring ~ vocals are incredibly SPOT on ~ and CRAZY is now my new new top most favorite song EVER .. and I agree with Abrra on the stylist. Wrinkly to an extent is okay, but it’s far too big on him .. perhaps a fan gift ~ then TOTALLY okay ~ he compensated with the jeans. But you all know me ~ I’m all about the clothes with David ~ I’m going to market my own doll soon ~ and he’ll have an entire wardrobe .. it’s going to be wonderful (hehe)
ok, you really need to stop doing that.. we just cross posted .. and you freak me out.
And THIS has me giddy …
posted on a Disney blog of all things .. bwahhh
Then after a short break American Idol runner-up David Archuleta made a dramatic entrance and went right into all of his greatest hits we all know and love.
Aside from being in need of a serious haircut and being completely drenched with sweat, David was AMAZING. We immediately came home and purchased his album. We watched him on American Idol, but he is SO much better in real life! If he ever headlines a tour by himself it would be a MUST-SEE in our opinion.

Again on same site (who continue to give David Kudos left and right ~ for not being a disney boy ~ it’s great)
Apparently Demi had a scheduling conflict -- yikes! We wish they would just let David Archuleta go and perform for the entire concert, but alas if Demi doesn’t go on nobody goes on!

Dawn Is that a memorial avi?
Abrra is full spammer mode
I changed it ~ give it 5 minutes ~ my new avi is love .. love .. love .. incredible .. BWAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
At some risk to my personal safety, I feel compelled to share the following PERSONAL opinion.
I prefer this current band to the one David had on his solo tour and in the UK,etc. This is not to “diss”the guys who have been replaced, but I found the previous group to be somewhat of a distraction when David was performing. This band seems more ‘invisible” and “in the background” to augment David’s performance. This has nothing whatsoever to do with the personalities of the previous guys. but I did find my attention distracted when watching David perform due to some of the antics of the other guys. It’s a little like the umpires at a baseball game. The best ones are the ones who you don’t remember.
In the event that this post results in a lifetime banishment from TDC, I’ve had a great time here and love you all.
Bliss — Ironic that the one time you think you’ll get banned is when I happen to agree with you. I am not in a position to make direct comparisons, I didn’t attend any of the winter shows, but other than the drums being a tad too prominent at Del Mar, I thought the band was skilled, smart and tight, and I couldn’t agree more with the premise of keeping them decisively in the background. This is not The David Archuleta Band. This is David Archuleta.
You won’t get any backlash from me. I’ve seen the old band, the new band, David alone on a keyboard, David with a track.
I heart Mike Komprass ~ he is madly talented ~ and him and David make a great creative writing partnership.
If David went SANS band ~ I wouldn’t be mad at him.
All he needs to do is learn to play acoustic guitar ~ and consider me completely happy.
the whatever reason ~ the band has become ~ as intended I guess ~ a backdrop. As PEOPLE, I was sad to see the change ~ but musically ~ it makes really no difference ~ I think my initial “angst” over it ~ was that Alex and Eli WERE fun, closer to David’s age, and he loved them. Never mistake my angst for something anything but love love love for David. And I’ll never ever ever be sorry for it. I no longer feel bad about worrying over David ~ as he was quite worried for me in return.. bwahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.
Gosh, bliss, if you get banned for that, I better be real careful before I hit submit on some of my thoughts!(ususally something to do with thighs!)
Yeah, I don’t really see TDC as the banning kind of site. If that were the case ~ I’d have been out on my curb centuries ago (as the problem child and all .. haha)
I was really just kidding about the “banned’ stuff. Anyway, there are, of course, many “groups” where the band is as important as the “lead singer” (uh, the Beatles, for one), but David is not a lead singer, he is the whole shebang. If ever the concept of “less is more” applied, it’s with David.
At PC Richard, there was just David on the stage with recorded music. My eyes were glued to him, and there was nothing else competing for my attention. David is an all inclusive package, and anything else is unnecessary window dressing, including a band. This one “backs him up” nicely, without ever bringing attention to itself.
Dawn65,
You’re humor and “b.a.d.d.ness were greatly missed around here. Good to “see” you!
aww Thanks angelofdja ~ I’ll see what I can do to shake it up .. I’m just kidding ~ I’m not prepared for Happy and her soapbox .. and I have tendencies to run into her in real life .. and she may actually show up at some point with a REAL one .. and use it.. so to avoid ouchies .. I will stay in the kiddie side of the pool for now
Hi dawn…. you know….lol
bliss, rascal, anyone else who thought the old band was a distraction, thank you for voicing what I thought way back….sorry
As much as I liked Eli and Alex, it’s about David…though I would like Mike to stick around….he and David make a great team…IMO.
Abrra the spammer….thank you for your report….Can’t wait to hear about your and dawn’s road trip and VIP’S. Sure to be fun read…lol
#73, Bwhahahahaha. I suppose… If you must! (Or we could secure our floaties and hurry on to the deep end?)
OK?…maybe later!
dja #74 ~ glad I could humor you
Well dja .. if history does in fact repeat itself ~ I’m sure all future VIP will be epic ~ at some point book worthy ~ good grief ~ it IS a good thing I have a sense of humor ~ let’s hope David does ~ bwahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
*GRABS* back my Spammer from DJA!
For those who have Sirius Radio Ch. #51 is a tribute channel for MJ. Not sure if its permanent, but I am loving it. I just heard Speechless. Oh my heck! It had David written all over it.
Speechless Lyrics
Artist(Band):Michael Jackson
Your love is magical, that’s how I feel
But I have not the words here to explain
God is the grace for expressions of passion
But there are worlds and worlds of ways to explain
To tell you how I feel
But I am speechless, speechless
That’s how you make me feel
Though I’m with you I am far away and nothing is for real
When I’m with you I’m lost for words, I don’t know what to say
My head’s spinning like a carousel, so silently I pray
Helpless and hopeless, that’s how I feel inside
Nothing’s real, but all is possible if God is on my side
When I’m with you I’m in the light where I cannot be found
It’s as though I am standing in the place called Hallowed Ground
Speechless, speechless, that’s how you make me feel
Though I’m with you I am far away and nothing is for real
I’ll go anywhere and do anything just to touch your face
There’s no mountain high I cannot climb I’m humbled in your grace
Speechless, speechless, that’s how you make me feel
Though I’m with you I am lost for words and nothing is for real
Speechless, speechless, that’s how you make me feel
Though I’m with you I am far away, and nothing is for real
Speechless, speechless, that’s how you make me feel
Though I’m with you I am lost for words and nothing is for real
Speechless
Your love is magical, that’s how I feel
But in your presence I am lost for words Words like, like “I love you.”

I have told Dawn I intend to pat her down for weapons!
Need to get her to agree to video. I suggested we use masks!
Abrra
Abrra and I unleashed on a 48 hour David excursion ~ this could be cellcast worthy~ hahahaha
Hi everyone! Just back from a trip out of town.
Dawn -- Welcome back -- you were missed!
Bliss and Rascal,
I have to agree with you both about the new band. For me however, the reason is its sound. I will not go into personalities because it was a blast meeting Mike, Eli and Alex in Albuquerque and they were the ones who encouraged David to move around more on stage. I know nothing about electric guitars but all I can say is the new bassist in particular has given the band a more robust, muscular tone? In playing catch-up with all the performances from the first couple concerts, even though these new guys are more subdued on stage, they have successfully tweaked each song in the set. My ear has become attuned and attracted to the bass guitar and I am liking it a lot more. WFY is a thing of beauty!
David is sounding more rock-like than ever and I feel he can easily get away with a couple rock song covers. I also thought that I might have been a bit tired of hearing these songs but yet again -- David is sounding better than ever. There IS something to be said for repetition. He has sung these songs into his voice and he sings them with sweet familiarity. He has seemingly taken apart each song and found every nook and cranny to add runs in new places. Even though his spring and summer concerts were only a few months apart, the growth witnessed is nothing short of AMAZING.
I’ve never seen this one before. Maybe there are others who haven’t either. httpv://www.youtube.com/v/pCRcr_Su8zY&rel=0&color1=0xb1b1b1&color2=0xcfcfcf&hl
Why does it work sometimes for me, but not others?
Still learning…
Okay, I’ll tell you -- I usually fix them, but….
Youtube addresses really end at the point where you encounter that first &. The rest is channel address or color selection for embedding and such. So your link works as
http://www.youtube.com/v/pCRcr_Su8zY
And embeds by adding the v after p in http
httpv://www.youtube.com/v/pCRcr_Su8zY
Interesting -- that last one takes you to a large screen version, which won’t embed (see the V after .com/). Here is the real address and then embed:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pCRcr_Su8zY
Hope that helps!
Embedding101 with Marlie.
Thanks teach!
I think I’ll just wrest the SPAMMER designation away from my two favorite spammers, Abrra and Dawn65 LOL
Bliss -- we would never ban you for THAT!
I agree that the new band sounds richer without being totally distracting, although I have a hard time not watching the drummer who is superb! I loved Eli and Alex, and I think they helped David come out of his fear during the early solo gigs. They were a comfortable family. These guys might just add another dimension of “stretch” for David.
And Mike, well, who can not love Mike. And I’ve developed a fondness for Kendra now that she is mixing better with David -- not singing over him.
Marlie
You can remove my gratuitous spam post # 90. I didn’t see you had fixed it.
Thank you

Marlie

Do not for 1 sec think you can out spam me

Abrra, I deleted your post with the errant link.
You do have powers, and I certainly do not want to go up against those. Handing back the SPAMMERS WAND. LOL

You can dress it up anyway you like, but I will still come out Incredible.

dawn, holding out? She is very good at keeping secrets and tormenting the masses. We may have to storm the palace.
My torch is lit…
Newark WFY is going to slowly kill me ~ talk about being in the moment.. holy moly ..
The way he says New Ark ..
smexy scan of the audience from :16 to :20 is delightful
bouncing at :55
the stance at 1:17
the strut back across the stage at 2:00
It was WAY easier to pick out the best performances earlier on in the Archujourney ~ but lately ~ it’s getting really difficult NOT to find something magically delicious in every performance.
Move along.. there’s nothing to see here ..
I can’t tell this story ..
I don’t WANT it to be funny .. and YET .. it is ..
Let me collect my thoughts on this for a minute ..
Because even though it’s been 48 hours .. every time I think of it, I laugh so hard .. I cry .. seriously.. and honestly.. I don’t think it’s funny .. but the laughter that comes out of me is beyond control.
Let me regroup for a second..
OK, the BOSTON page is complete now, though I would really loooove a full one-vid of MY HANDS. So I will patiently wait for ABRRA’s vids
And yes ABRRA -- that ‘s what I meant -- numbering them (perhaps in the filename) according to the set list is a big help. Thanks for confirming TBWY. I mentioned it cos I noticed David interchanges Barriers with TBWY
BLISS -- I also prefer this band. Personally, I like Eli, Alex and Mike. We got to spend some fun times with them while they were in Manila. Though I also like their energy onstage, I would still prefer that they don’t overpower David. Aside from being very likeable fellas on their own, perhaps another reason why the band figures prominently with some fan groups may be because they see them as an opportunity to get closer to David. I only hope that Mike stays longer.
And one more similarity… David has his own version of the “moonwalk”… the difference is that he makes US do it at every concert! (Can you tell, I haven’t come down from Del Mar yet!!)
Seems like this band has picked up the pace a little, too, and I think it gives the songs a more rock feel by that alone. And again, that drummer is a rock drummer.
Okay, I confess I have heard Dawn65′s story. If she tells it here, be ready to pee your pants…I’m not kidding, I had tears streaming down my face from laughter when I heard it and couldn’t stop.
JR -- thanks for the Boston page! (Off to download).
Dawn check your email. Perhaps you can add a visual to your story
Abrra
Thanks for your efforts, JR, as always.
Came upon this article from the NY Times about how we just might never have another Superstar (indeed, all the videos Archie fans generously share goes to show how David’s label doesn’t even have to bother on spending for promotion):
http://www.nytimes.com/2009/06/28/weekinreview/28segal.html?_r=1&hp
Does this mean that our speculation on David is futile if, regardless of his potential, he might not reach superstardom status on the level of MJ or Elvis?
I personally don’t know how true this is; my own prediction is that it will take a new kind of communication technology -- the way radio and TV launched superstars -- to create a different kind of superstar.
Something that will most likely take digital culture to the next level of global unification. And something HUGE (the problem with mobile phones and the Internet is that their screens are not big enough to magnify someone’s image to superstar status. I would kill to see David’s beautiful self on a big screen some day, are you kidding me?).
Of course, with the tragedy of our superstars, a better question is: would we want another superstar created?
Anyway, have to head out for the rest of the day.
Until next time!
Emmiegirl -- I have to wait till August. Ugh!
Marlie -- Thanks for that info about the drummer. The bassist if also fresh from touring with a rock singer. All I know is that I thought I would not be able to tell the difference. Wrong Again.
Come on Dawn! What will it take to bribe you?
dawn -- thanks for the tips on the WFY vid. and there is this little sideways hop at the 1:52 mark that I would love to see the full view of.
daaaaawn……………..
ok … I will try the readers digest version
Dawn it is too good not to share.
Do it for the good of all mankind!!
I find it very sweet actually.
Loving all the videos posted by JR as well as the hilarious exchanges here!
Dawn65, you’ve been missed. Abrra, thanks for the awesome review.
Now, why has David decided to go back to opening with TMH? I was in love with ALTNOY following the heart thumping effect. I felt its intro made for a smoother, more seamless transition into the actual singing. Oh, well, there must be a reason.
I like the new band a lot. And Kendra has gained some credit with this fan, too. Before I’d felt she shouldn’t be doing backing vocals for David. Still do, to be honest, but she’s doing well now. She’s charming and friendly, which is nice.
Valbraz -- I agree with you about the opening number.
The first few seconds of hearing it I did not like the switch preferring and obviously used to TMH it until… the smexy Archustrut and big gorgeous smile. I must have replayed that portion of the vid from Wilkes-Barre a gazillion times. Maybe David just felt more comfortable entering with TMH and reaching out to fans in greeting. It makes it a bit awkward to do after singing the first number.
Having my first VIP coming up in Newark, I spent some time trying to figure out what I could say to David in 10 seconds or less ~ considering it was the first time I’d actually get to “meet” him ~ and I’d heard they went buy really QUICK.
After some bouncing around with it, I almost backed out of meeting him, and a very good friend reminded me ~ meeting David was not about ME, but it was in fact about showing him our love and support for all he does, and how much we appreciate all his hard work.
GREAT ~ I have something to work with.
UNTIL ~ David dons the invisible children t-shirt I gave him at the Tribeca show ~ and it appears all over the place. The day BEFORE my VIP.
Of the 76 people there, I allow more and more people to cut me in line, as I just can’t seem to muster the courage up ~ he walked past me in the hall and I let out a gasp that would put even the most excited tween to shame. AWESOME (0 for 1 so far)
Finally ~ there is nobody else in front of me or in back of me ~ it’s now just me ~ David looking at me ~ waiting ~ I WANT to move ~ but my feet don’t. Deep breathe .. and step.
And I stumble, literally trip over my own feet (now I appear drunk)
I’m asked if I’m okay ~ (am I?)
And out comes his left hand.
I think okay ~ great I’m going to shake his hand ~ thank him for wearing the shirt ~ snap the picture and be on my merry way.
This sounds lovely doesn’t it?
“Hi David I’m Dawn”
“Hi Dawn” (beautiful eyes and smile.. he’s breathtaking)
“Thank you for wearing the Incredible Children tshirt”
David looks at me like I have ten heads
“OH, the Invisible children shirt”
“YES, the Incredible children shirt I gave you in Tribeca”
Not ONCE, but TWICE, even after he tried to save me
I’m so embarrassed at this point, I drop my head (looking for a hole in the floor to swallow me up)
“I’m SO sorry David”
“No no it’s okay don’t be sorry” and he slips his arm behind me in an attempt to comfort me?
Frantically seeking redemption, I want to then tell him that I buy a bracelet weekly and gift them to coworkers, friends, family…
SOMEHOW ~ My brain sends a totally different message to my MOUTH ~ and I say “I have a bracelet” AND SHOW HIM.
At this point ~ I am in total failure mode ~ Ray and VIP lady are trying to get me the heck out of there ~ David assures them it’s okay ~ and I decide to brave looking at him again.
David has this look on his face, eyes as big as quarters, deer caught in the headlights kind of thing going on. (I decide at this point that he either feels sorry for me, thinks I’m crazy, or is totally terrified)
Most of this time ~ the handshake that was ~ seemed to go on forever ~ we weren’t as much shaking hands as just holding hands ~ I truly believe in his endless efforts to calm me down because nervous people make HIM nervous.
They want to take the picture ~ we are still chatting back and forth ~ I keep CUTTING him off mid sentence .. I can’t put TWO words together ~ it’s going from bad to worse at LIGHTNING speed.
There was much more to this ~ and I won’t bore you with all the details (but I can promise you it was NOT 10 seconds as I’d hoped and perhaps the longest 3 minutes of MY LIFE). I just gave you the “highlights”.
Venue lady approached me very shortly afterward, she was madly curious as to what we were talking about, because she said, What were you two talking about? He had the most fascinated look on his face. I said, that was not fascination, it was fear ~ and we shared a pity laugh.
I’m seriously embarrassed beyond belief ~ I feel like crap for unnerving him, because I swear ~ I’ve scoured every picture I’ve ever seen, and the look ~ is nowhere to be found. I think I scared the heck right out of him.
Tada .. my EPIC failure.
Just stopping by to say hello! Got back from vacation, where I had no Internet or even a landline, and horribly out of the loop on any David news. Heard the sad MJ news while out shopping on Thursday. So much to catch up on.
Nice article, Rascal! There are definitely similarities between them both. Also, interesting to note that Michael, like David, was/is very close to a very loving mother, from what I have read about Michael.
“Tada”..my EPIC failure”.
Oh no, no, no, Dawn65, not a failure to those of us who understand wholeheartedly where your head was at!!! Marlie7, you were right to warn us about peeing-our-pants laughing while reading it! Dawn65, “for the good of all mankind”(#108)
I’m sooo glad you shared!
Don’t feel silly, Dawn. Check out this video when David walked over to me last summer. I panicked and dropped my camera, and got it all on video!
Rascal, your post brought up many things I hadn’t thought of. I especially agree with your last paragraph. Thank you.
The way David is taking care of business as usual in light of Michael’s untimely passing, just made me feel better. Had David gone into a kind of seclusion, as much as he could have, we would have been chewing our nails with worry for him. David is showing so much inner strength and maturity these last few weeks in the wake of the scandal with dad, and now the loss of one of his most admired idols. I can never say this enough, David never ceases to amaze me.
dawn..you kill me!
David is a sweetheart!
David says he needs a haircut! I don’t THINK SO!! Good thing it’s Sunday tomorrow..no place to get a haircut on the road to Atlanta, and too far away from Brooke! Yeah!
Oh my heck..he has all day Monday to get a haircut, though! Dang it!
I’m glad you all enjoyed my tale of woe.
SF … tomorrow is Sunday ~ David will NOT go to church without that haircut.
I will BET anything ~ he’s on it already ~ and will have it cut before that pretty little head hits the pillow tonight.
He’s in Philly ~ in the east coast ~ there’s something always open.
Thank You Dawn! The stunbling part was funny. I know there is a typo but after spying David in the hallway before meeting him this is probally what happened to you. Don’t you have more m&gs to redeem yourself? -LOL!
oh Freo ~ if I had dropped something ~ I would have felt MUCH better. It’s just the epic goof of a cause I’m passionate about ~ and him trying in vain to help me ~ REPEATEDLY ~ poor David.
He’s out there overcoming all kinds of obstacles, and leave it to me .. BWAH.
All this “calming” I hear of ~ poppycock.
But from the bottom of my heart ~ I’ll forever remember the day David Archuleta tried to be my Prozac.
BWAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
I WILL redeem myself ~ not for me.. for HIM..
joymus … that’s NOT a typo..
THAT is exactly what I said.. NOT once.. but TWICE !!!!!
NOT Invisible.. INCREDIBLE.. I can’t believe I said it ..
even AFTER he corrected me in the kindest of ways ..in an effort to communicate he understood what I was trying to SAY..
and then I did it __A G A I N__
DAWN..NO! I refuse to accept that he was able to get a haircut in the last couple of hours. He’s on stage in just a little while..I guess we’ll see when the vids show up…
He always looks good..And his hair grows really fast!
What a thing to be concerned about..his hair!! Geesh!
DAWN -- may I say… you are incredible
BAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHAAAA
A googilion hugs to you!
DAWN!!! I had the opportunity to spend time with David at the Crush MS function about a month ago and I am right with you! Most of the time I spent apologizing to him for nothing, or looking at him like he was an alien when he was speaking to me and I couldn’t understand a word he said. When I finally got my wits about me I started ordering him around. How’s that for epic fail? No wonder he thinks fans are weird! I defy anyone to behave in a normal fashion around him.
oh NO ~ he thinks we’re weird ???
oh man ~ I was hoping awkward .. he thinks I’m weird.. great.
But you were ordering him around ?
THAT IS GREAT … BWAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
sorry.. I needed that.
I’m so glad I get to redeem myself.
SF .. no haircut.. and yes honey.. he DOES need a shape up.. sorry.. he’s a bit of a mess tonight.
I’ve ruined him… I BROKE DAVID
LOL
Dawn, Love your story! lol. Come to think of it, these children ARE Incredible. Can I order an Incredible Children shirt from you?
Dawn..no haircut yet..and he could have skipped the pullover vest..
He needs to lose the plaid shirts and replace them with plain & graphic tees, button down shirts w/ skinny ties…the fitted jeans can stay though!!
But he’s not a mess, never a mess..just a little mussed up.
If you “broke” him, you can “fix” him next time you see him!
Woo-hoo..pics from the Nassau Coliseum in Uniondale…Our boy looks VERY happy! (he’s wearing the shirt dawn gave him)
http://david-daily.com/gallery/displayimage.php?album=143&pos=0
Incredible Children shirt FTW !!! That shirt is sure making it’s rounds .. it’s been suggested I have a shirt made that says that… haha
It’s wild how that shirt keeps popping up all over the place.
/wipes Dawn’s guts off the floor after she finally spills them out.
YA! You finally got all that out. Its still hilarious with every telling. Mind over matter. If he didn’t mind your insanity it won’t matter
Abrra
Dawn, the shirt is a perfect fit and a perfect color for David. He wore it for the VIP in Uniondale so there will be lots of pics with him wearing the shirt. He’ll wear it again & again. He really looks good in it. I love how he looks.
Wow ~ thanks for the Love Abrra ~ and oddly enough after I spill my guts ~ even MORE pics come out of the now infamous shirt..
HAHA .. he did tell me he loved it ~ and thought it was great. When I wasn’t cutting him off.
If he wears another shirt (you know the one) I’m going to dress him from now on .. hahahahaha.. just kidding of course
Dawn you’ve got mail. I solved the problem.
NEXT!
Abrra
Have we seen this yet?
Dang-it, marlie, I’m flunkin’ embedding101!
I am back in town after 2 weeks away (plus a fabulous Del Mar weekend in between) and am just now getting caught up on TDC.
Thanks Rascal for your insightful article.
Not being a big fan of Michael Jackson, I hadn’t thought about the similarities or differences between Michael and David. I knew of course that David considered MJ a major influence, and it’s been obvious that MJ’s death has had a big impact on David. The obsession with pop charts, the clinging to childish ways, the soft demeanor – there are certainly similarities.
Certainly fame can do damage to strong families and can destroy dysfunctional ones. I hadn’t thought about Michael’s obsession with childhood fantasies later in life as being caused by a lack of any kind of normal childhood, but that makes sense. MJ began performing so young and was pushed to the front so quickly, that he didn’t have most of the normal growing up experiences that we take for granted.
But as Rascal says, David comes to this fame game later in life, with more of a developed sense of self and a stronger base, albeit less than perfect, of family. He has said repeatedly that what keeps him grounded is his family and his faith. I’ve forgotten who posted it, but there was a lovely and poignant picture of David and Lupe and his sisters along with the iCarly girl and other friends at the Del Mar show. It was heartening to know that for David’s first performance after the public humiliation of his family, that his Mom, sisters and friends were there to support and share the evening with him.
Rascal, your gorgeous insignia says it all. David perhaps isn’t reaching for the crown, but for something more lasting and profound.
We can only hope that David stays anchored. As Rascal says, David is not one to be “seduced by sycophants wielding all manner of ego fertilizer.” (Love the way you express that, Rascal!) There are so many qualities that are endearing in David: his generosity, his warmth, his lack of ego and machismo. He seems to be comfortable in his own skin. He seems to be at peace with his soul. And, oh yeah -- he seems to be having the time of his life putting on the sassy on stage.
Hi SF!
Where did you see a pic of David from tonight?
Joymus, Try this link.

Joymus..from twitter,

Thanks YJfod and SF. I agree about the outfit. Last night was also a miss,
angelofda: You can’t flunk embedding, you can only try and try again.
Eventually you get it.
When you go to youtube, there is a line on the right of the video that says URL. Click that so that it highlights (blue), copy and paste here, then add the v. Don’t use any other link -- they never work…it’s not you!
Marlie -- Thanks again for this info. I also need to get brave and embed a video.
Does anyone know if tonight was a David-only concert?
Joymus, no. The next solo concert is in Pittsburgh at The Byham Theater on 7/28. There are VIP’s available. I have a VIP!
Philly -- Zero Gravity:
Waiting for video from Philly..taking too long. I heard Demi took a tumble on stage, but got right back up…I can just picture David on the sidelines wanting to help her and asking her if she’s OK!!
He’s so caring and such a big softy!
May he continue to be healthy and strong during this time in the summer tour with Demi. Keep David and his companions safe as they journey across this land of ours.
Dawn, your story about meeting David was SO funny!! I get the giggles every time I think about it! Hope that doesn’t happen to me! I am SO excited to meet him next week that I probably won’t be able to say anything!!!
Touch My Hand -- opening -- Philly:
angelofdja @ #134 -- yes we have that in the Boston page and all the other uploads of pkmu5791
gearing up for the Philly show tonight! Found one vid on TMH uploaded just an hour ago, also in Mann Center but the date indicated 3/27/09?
Must be a typo error only for the date:
Mann Center PA’s TMH by beachbunson:
Had a blast tonight at the Philly concert that I attended with Archiesfan4life and also had the pleasure to meet up with TOfan, Happy and Refnaf!! Will write more tomorrow because I can hardly keep my eyes open, but may I just say that I was GOBSMACKED by David’s performance!! It’s been a few months since last seeing him on his solo tour, and I was DUMBSTRUCK by how much he has grown as a performer. Watching the posted videos and reading all the recent reviews, as impressive as they are, did not prepare me for what I witnessed tonight. David’s raw energy and passion on that stage was electrifying. The texture of his voice seems richer (how can that even be possible?). The way he continues to bring surprises in his interpretation of each and every song. His command of the stage….holy moly, HE OWNS THAT STAGE!!
It was a take all prisoners, leave no survivors performance. Not a one. The crowd went absolutely nuts for him.
I am here to tell ya, with all the concerns for marketing stragies, performance venues, who he’s touring with, family issues, his choice of dress, his interviewing skills, what the next album will be like…IT DON’T MATTER FOLKS. If David wants it, HE IS DESTINED FOR SUPERSTARDOM!!!
Okay, now I’m really pooped. Just one more comment…loved, Loved, LOVED THE BAND!!
So glad to see your report, Zoe!
And I DEFINITELY agree with ya. We’re a bunch of worrywarts here at TDC.
Paula had it right from the beginning.
Yes indeed, Ronaldsf!
In the city of brotherly love, there was MAJOR love for David tonight!
Glad you had so much fun tonight, Zoe. You are making me even more excited for the show I’m going to!!
Guys, PHILLY PAGE up already!
http://www.thedavidchronicles.com/2009/05/philadelphia-pa-june-27-2009/
We have TMH, WFY, You Can, WFM, ZG. Vids are coming in fast
dawn65-- thanks for sharing your ‘oops’--I read it (and laughed out loud) by myself, then shared it with my husband and could hardly get thru it I was laughing so hard. He was laughing just as hard. It’s so good to know that dumb things happen to good people!! Luv ya for sharing. You’re the best!!
Rascal’s post and the comments have been very interesting. It’s caused me to do alot of thinking. Although I’ve not been a real MJ fan (buying his albums), I have always appreciated his talents and his concerns for others. He truly was a good person.
Marlie7, #87. I wanted to address your “interesting” in the comment. What I do to watch in full screen without getting a continuous buffering, is I first click the youtube logo on the video that is embedded here, then it takes me to youtube. There is a red arrow that takes you to a new window. That is the way I can see these wonderful David vids up-close-and-personal. I’m sure there are plenty of you who already know that, but I thought I was pretty “cool” for finding that option!
P.S. maybe this is an answer to SF’s question way back when, when she asked if watching the vids from here(TDC) helped on how many times the vid was viewed.
OK, I just read this back…I rambled. I hope you catch-my-drift?
continuing…So…I tried to embed the full screen video. That’s what happened. Now you know…The-Rest-of-the-Story!!! LOL
marlie7 #145, Wow -- WHAT was that at 1:08? He slinks like a cat and curls around with a shoulder roll!?
MEEOOW!
Randomness on:
beebee’s obsession with patchwork madras and psychic powers
Memories of 1964. Madras plaid shirts were all the rage. Bleeding madras was every mothers laundry nightmare!
I had planned to gift a vest to David and bring it to the last show in NH. So, I look at the Buckle online store. I find the perfect open front (no side laces, ewww) semi-sporty vest. I looked at the “name” of it as I was checking the cost, Manchester! This kind of thing happens to me all the time. Those who know me realize this kind of thing happens to me all the time. I am psychic or precognitive, pick one.
Recently, I have become interested in making short videos about David for youtube. Along the way, I discovered that the song is the most vital component to getting a successful upload. Working for hours on a project only to have the sound disabled is not the least bit amusing. I now use the back door approach. i make a blank loking movie with only the song track, then upload it. If it sticks I am good to go on the video portion.
All that to say this…
A month ago I ran across am IDF picture thread that had only images of David waving. Hi, goodbye, what have you. I was inspired right away! I would make the video! I uploaded the song to youtube. It was not disabled, I was on a roll. A few days later I was ready to produce. My song was still up there and all I needed was to collect pictures. DISASTER struck. I couldn’t find the silly thread again on IDF. I will continue to look ( anyone know the thread I am looking for? ) and will make that video. I am going to make a few changes to my original plan, though. What was this song, you ask? Were my psychic powers kicking in?
Michael Jackson’s “Never Can Say Goodbye”.
Now I will make a whole different video. Maybe David waving with some Micheal waving as he bids this world goodbye.
Abrra the random rambler
Good Morning folks ~ it’s my house cleaning time ~ so I haven’t had a chance to watch Philly last night ~ but I indeed will.
To all those happy with my mini meltdown ~ I’m glad you enjoyed it 8). It was definately a moment I’ll never forget, but hope David does before the end of August. For the first time EVER I’m glad I have some time between shows.
HOWEVER ~ what I should say, because as funny as the story is, David is truly the kindest, patient, and most compassionate man…I’ve ever made a fool of myself in front of. I’ve never felt more committed to stand by him and do my part in supporting his climb to the top.
It’s going to be a long summer of late night vids ~ reviews ~ recaps and sharing. So I MUST attend to some stuff today or my house will be taken over by dustbunnies that could inhale my granchildren.
Much Love
D
Ok Dawn So, Did I summon you yet again? LMAO
Abrra
Rascal~~another insightful post. Thank you! I’m optimistic too that as David soars, his focus will remain grounded.
“While I’m really sad to hear that he has passed, I hope that the people will now appreciate the amazing work he did and not focus on the hardships he faced.” ~ David Archuleta
That is as quote of an eighteen year old who is wise beyond his years. With no time to prepare what to say onstage, he said those words only minutes after learning of the death of one of his idols. He could teach people twice and three times his age a thing or two about humility and tact.
For {{{Dawn65}}}: I met you at Newark and it was LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT. I always knew that at the basis of your posts was your love for David. We all express ourselves differently here but let’s not forget that the thread that weaves all of us together, is our love for one mighty fine artist. Sharing ideas and learning from each other is what makes blogging fun. But at the end of the day, it all comes back to tie that binds us. Please stay; you’re one of our guiding lights!
Dawn, you said it so well here and I applaud you:
“I sincerely hope ~ young and old ~ have an opportunity to really understand that David’s support ~ is not only about buying, supporting, voting, and believing in him, but it’s also respecting him AS a person, understanding the sacrifices he makes on a daily basis to pursue his love of music and to share it with us ~ earns him the right to be HUMAN. I hope someday .. David can find a way in this industry ~ to become a legend ~ through not only his music ~ but through his ability to remain REAL.”
Abrra #85 Oh my!! Never heard that Michael Jackson song before (“Speechless”)! Leave it to Abrra Cadabra to find another gem of a song!
Bebe — I love words “mighty” and “fine” together to describe David. Nicely done.
Just now having some down time to catch up. Love your story, Dawn. You get a second chance to redeem yourself, so forgive me for not feeling your humiliation!
Just kidding!
Good afternoon!
I figure our boy is in Atlanta by now, perhaps in “Our Hotel” ahem! My most cherished memory (so far) on this marvelous journey I’m on with David.
David will most likely meet up with relatives there and with his brother Daniel who is there having a great time with cousin Vanessa, if his twitters are any indication. That boy, Daniel does not, cannot sleep. I was thinking maybe Daniel will join David on this leg of the tour on to California? Would be nice if Daniel could get some of David’s influence. IMO, he desperately needs it. Being around David and seeing how hard he works at his craft and for his fans, I think would do wonders for Daniel. What a great experience it would be for both brothers, who I think really NEED each other now. JMO of course.
In any case, David will be very happy to see his brother and the rest, I’m sure. He took them to his hotel after the concert last year just to spend some alone time in his room with them. He is definitely a MIGHTY FINE man in so many ways!
I’m in agreement with Rascal that although there are many similarities between MJ and David that he will remain grounded and, for the sake of my own sanity, I’m going to cling to that belief.
I was up til the wee hours of the morning watching programs on the life of Michael Jackson. There was a point in his career, after the mega success of his Thriller album, that you could begin to see the joy being sucked out of his life force. I’m sure it had to do with many things including the self imposed pressure of trying to outdo himself coupled with dealing with the tabloids and media. As the pressure mounted, the themes of his music and videos became more angry and violent in nature, an outlet I suppose for his mounting frustrations. It was sad to see him become so withdrawn and reclusive trying to cope. Sad too was the fact that even though he was surrounded by adoring fans professing their love for him and his craft it wasn’t enough to save him from his downward spiral.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m am mourning the loss of MJ, but when I contemplated anything remotely similar happening to David that would lead to his early demise it made me sick to my stomach and totally freaked me out. He has become like a family member to me and such a huge part of my life. With the tools of the internet we get to see and talk to him almost every day and I was struck by how profound and personal my sorrow and sense of loss would be if something happened to him.
There are a lot of people that would probably think I’m Looney Tunes for feeling like this. I remember when Elvis died thinking how ridiculous his fans were for getting so worked up over a virtual stranger.
My apologies to Elvis fans.
Joner <======== This is me, eating crow.
Michael may you R.I.P.
And David, on Twitter alone you currently have over 108,000 followers, many of which are nuturing, maternal females. If you even THINK about going off course, you had better be prepared to get chirped at. We’re looking out for you. It’s what we do.
Not quite back to earth after a spontaneously insane yet magical weekend spent with Refnaf, Happy and what’shisname … haven’t caught up so maybe this is old news but the Philadelphia concert was spec-tac-ular.
David’s voice has NEVER sounded better. I wanted to sit back and listen to him sing every song ever written … like always, I guess, lol.
He held nothing back and the acoustics of the open-air amphitheatre were flawless, every note full and rich and clear and ahhhhhhhh. The band ROCKS!!! Showcasing David’s voice and energy.
Great meeting Zoe & archiefan4life *waves!* … Happy 4 Prez!!!
#167 -- Oops…meant “nurturing”.
Saw this on Twitter:
A beautiful thank you to the fans from David’s Abuelita http://archuletafanscene.com/
Philly Tour page finally complete
http://www.thedavidchronicles.com/2009/05/philadelphia-pa-june-27-2009/
David sounded mighty fine in this tour. GAH!
FREO -- OMG, Abuelita posted her mailing address. She will have her hands and eyes full from hereon for all the letters that she will receive! LOL
Enjoy the rest of the day angels!
I am back home after David’s FANTASTIC concert in Philly, but like TOfan, I am still not back on earth – that may take some time:).
David was – oh, there are no words! He is just amazing! I agree with zoe and the others who commented on David’s band – they were rockin’ it last night!
I want to say a huge thank you to zoe for making last night possible of me – there is no limit to the kindness David’s fans show to one another!
This past year and a half has been an answer to my prayers – following David from the beginning of AI and then becoming a part of this online community, and making friends off line with some, has been such a blessing to me. I have no doubt that we will continue these friendships for many years to come. On my drive home a sudden sadness overcame me – it couldn’t be over already:(. I think I could see David in concert everyday and it would not be enough.
I am thrilled that zoe and I got to meet TOfan, Refnaf and Happy – so nice to finally put faces to the names.
Now – off to watch videos and reminisce about last night.
Abuelita may not realize this but the post office in Phoenix is going to have to add more OT mail handlers and carriers just to take care of the deluge of mail coming her way.
She posted an address for David’s fans to write and tell her how David has affected our lives.
Good way to keep the US Postal Service afloat. My daughter who works for the US PO should send her a thank you card!
Abuelita is a lovely lady with a big heart, like her beautiful grandson. Now I’m off to write her a letter.
My fave tweet the other day was “If David’s voice were a food it would be honey or that really expensive maple syrup,” (from a Boston VIP ticket holder when listening to Barriers sound check.)
To all you lucky Philly concert-goers, from everything i have watched/heard on YouTube, and heard from you all… David was F.I.E.R.C.E. Personified! He OWNED the Mann Center last nite…every stick of it. (Puzzlingly off-season and surely sweltering pull-over vest and ALL! lol) This ride is beyond thrilling to me. And I am only watching YouTube!
How’s about a little “Arm swingin’, archu_stompin’, stand back bcz I own this place and am WAAAAAY comfortable in my own bad self skin, yo, and I shall buh-low out the ending here simply bcz i can and I’m in a good mood *waves & smiles* then *mini-growls*, take-no-prisoners” Philly WFM, hm?
OH, you GO wif yo bad self, David. Fierce. *thud!*
Speaking of wardrobe, I got a kick out of a post at the Philippine fansite. They got all excited when David was jumping around and his shirt flipped up in back. They thought this would be their opportunity to see some “skin” and it turns out he had on an undershirt! Bwaahhahahahaha!!!
Gotta love the fangirls!
beebee, “How’s about a little “Arm swingin’, archu_stompin’, stand back bcz I own this place and am WAAAAAY comfortable in my own bad self skin, yo, and I shall buh-low out the ending here simply bcz i can and I’m in a good mood *waves & smiles* then *mini-growls*, take-no-prisoners” Philly WFM, hm?” ROTFLMAO … are you sure you weren’t there, beebee? ’Cause that about sums it up!
Off to JR’s Philly Tour page, crossing fingers, toes and pretty much every other body part for My Hands … it was smOOOOOkin’ last night. Good thing the place was open air.
Archiesfan4life: {{{{{HUGS}}}}}
Can’t wait to plan our next rendezvousie! Maybe in a few years we’ll do a road trip a la SF. You can drive, haha!!
Tofan, you’re so right about My Hands! Man o man, David knocked that one right outa Fairmount Park!!
Hm, I’m thinkin’ that link (174) didn’t embed bcz it was from a youtube channel with the new (beta) YouTube format. What-evah.
random:
Abbra )#164) … welcome to beebee’s psychic network. *straightens madras turban* … how may I fleece you today? lol I see travel. LOTS of travel. The money, she will flow (out of your pocket, but thankfully into David’s so it’s all good.) You shall mysteriously feel and appear decades younger…and your heart will ultimately burst wide open. Death by joy. In a GOOD way. :p
(I love a good bleeding madras. It was all the rage. I still think it’s cool. In appropriate doses. lol)
Joner, that reminds me of back when the behind the scenes “making of the Crush Video” video was going around and, like Xeno and MC were all…woooo… he wore shorts! (SHORTS? I say??) We saw his SKIN!! LOL. What a riot. I SCRUTINIZED that vid and GRILLED those girls doggedly until I finally found what they were talking about. THIS was IT. (Hilarious) (THOSE are SHORTS?) Love those silly fangirls.
http://i328.photobucket.com/albums/l347/beebeepix/David%20Archuleta/ankle_calf_sighting.jpg
Got news for ya girls, we got the big SKIN payola with *drum roll*
G.u.i.t.a.r..H.e.r.o..
(David’s fearlessness has always floored me. Nice thighs, too. :p)
This is from a Philly concert review posted at Snarkies from a conversation the fan had with David’s VIP program person who travels on the bus with him:
She told us that every night David sits on the floor of the tour bus going through every gift, letter and card individually.
I can just picture him doing this. Gah!!! Could he GET any sweeter!
Tofan -- you are so right about “My Hands”. I was hoping for a whole video and now there is one available. I don’t know but in every performance the stars align for one song to stand out above the rest and last night it was “My Hands”.
Zoe -- now that I found my way to your house, I am ready to take us anywhere David has a concert!!!
Here’s muldur99′s My Hands:
… she will soon upload Apologize.
I got the feeling David was reveling in the amazing acoustics as much as we were, if that makes sense. Holding some sweet notes longer, playing with the soft ones, gah, stop me now!
The structure was lined with beautiful wood and the notes sounded so rich and full. What a special venue, relaxed and open yet fine-tuned for music appreciation. Nice.
OMG, Muldur’s got VIDS! Yay!
aaahhhh, last minute trips to see David FTW!!! An awesome experience once again hearing David in Philly. I agree “My Hands” was incredible, and except for the legion of 8-10 year olds the evening was perfect, (my apologies to the 8-10 yr olds, but their giggling, texting inattention to the Voice drives me). His rendition of “Apologize” had me moist eyed….the venue was gorgeous, the weather lovely.
I have had a crazy busy week, with my son graduating high school, and my last minute trip to Philly, that I am still in denial about MJ…it has not sunk in yet.
TOfan…#182…My Hands…An incredible arrangement…simple words made into a fantastic song.
David is driving us into a frenzy!
He is doing what is impossible for other artists..he’s getting better & better with each concert, making some of us go crazy checking on the availability of tickets, flights, hotels in order to attend one more, then another, then just one more concert on this tour! This tour some of us were so against, including me. I was not looking forward to sitting in an audience with little Demi fans, but that doesn’t even matter anymore. Only seeing David LIVE matters! We just cannot get enough! This is crazy, and WONDERFUL! Will Demi be able to complete the tour? This is a legitimate question. Did she realize how hard it would be? Did she realize she would be following the best live performer out there today?…OK, to us he is THE BEST. David is THE VOICE. Does she hear him, does she dare? If I were her, I would have already given up. I say this because I tried to watch a couple of videos of her tour performances…sad…I feel for her. But the kids love her! Kids who aren’t old enough to appreciate The Voice, but their mom’s are!
Good night all. And for David..

Good Night Silverfox…
For everyone still here, speaking of MJ connections…I was watching Larry King tonight and Kenny Ortega was talking about Michael. I had no idea Kenny was Michael’s longtime choreographer for his tours. This is the same Kenny Ortega who directed the High School Musical films and had this to say about David:
Kenny Ortega knows what he’s talking about. Very smart man! Knows STAR quality when he sees it!
nitey nite SF
LittleM, nice find!
I am wallowing in muldur’s vids.
Silverfox…exactly!!!!!
Kenny Ortega said our David is stupendous! American Heritage Dictionary breakdown:
Of astounding force, volume, degree, or excellence, marvelous! Certainly sounds like David Archuleta to me! So nice to hear someone of Kenny’s reputation to say so.
P.S.(I can’t stop repeating Mulder99′s, My Hands) Astounding force, indeed! WHEW!
Muldur’s vids -- gah! She always has the clearest videos -- and close! Off to watch!
this just in: Muldur’s Philly Apologize
LittleM-thanks for that, I had totally forgotten what he had said. High praise indeed! Those who are in the know, KNOW!
dawn-your epic failure had gone into my personal archives. THAT is one of the funniest encounters I have ever heard, you had me snorting! The pictures in my mind!!
I didn’t see this posted, merry-go-round of some of David’s expressions singing Barriers, Del Mar.
Too cute.
When the MJ news hit me, I had an initial moment of surprise, but didn’t go through the same agony as other people. I sure was a fan of his, and I grew up in the 80s when he was at his most famous, but it kind of didn’t hit me emotionally.
Well anyway, it’s all starting to hit me now.
For the past day I’ve been watching him on YouTube, especially when he was a young kid, and then all the dance videos. What a talent!
Realizing that I probably was going through the first stage of grief. Sigh…
TOFan #182, What a great performance of My Hands!
And a Mariah Hand sighting at the 4:33 mark! I am content!
Good morning everyone! Wow! You either get David or you don’t.
Check out this review:
http://www.boston.com/ae/music/articles/2009/06/29/direct_from_the_teen_pop_factory/
He actually thought Demi was better than David?! Sigh.
One consolation: Michael Jackson was once dismissed as “bubble gum pop” too when he was young.
So, obviously, not everyone is equipped to recognize genius when it shows, although the songs David was given on his debut album are nothing earth shattering, at least recognize the talent!
Well, this is the reviewer who thinks Demi is “a junior Kelly Clarkson” -- heh heh. This reviewer needs a career change.
New Post……
