My admiration for his bravery in tackling a brand new song on tour, is surpassed only by my amazement that he can do it so well, with very little rehearsal.

He just closes his eyes and lays back into it and smoothly carries you into every sensual nuance and emotion he feels.

Talk about vulnerable.

Packing up for my flight to Orlando tomorrow! Meeting up with raelovingangels and joymus if possible. WOW! This ODD is like being a kid again. Can I share something with y’all from the GA site? A blog by Judy that I think sheds a little more light into why we have this sweet obsession. It’s titled

Unfiltered

One of my favorite things to do when I was little was go outside and find an ant line (usually on the curb) and stand and watch those little creatures all following the same path and busily going about their tasks and wondering how did they know to do that? Sometimes the line went in a zigzag and I wondered why they did that. My next favorite thing was to climb a tree and pretend I was the queen of everything I surveyed and I would make up entire scenarios of the way my kingdom would be run. Most of us have these memories – of childhood and the unfettered way our minds worked then. There were no rules for our imagination – no prejudices – just the unfiltered freedom of innocence.

As life progresses, innocence becomes dormant – not gone – just dormant. Growing up and becoming an adult places layers of life experience on top of the innocence and those joyous and unfiltered emotions and experiences are covered up – placed in the depths of our memories.

Every now and then, those feelings will surface again – watching a movie or hearing a song or visiting a place that reminds one of their childhood but the sensations are still filtered by our adult experiences. It’s there but not the same. Perhaps childhood memories are not ones we want to remember because of pain and trauma. Regardless – there is always that longing to be able to experience life through the eyes of innocence whether one has experienced it or not.

January, 2008 – David arrived in our lives – a young man with a killer smile and youthful countenance. He exuded joy and we responded and the question of why we became so connected to him began to surface and is still being considered, discussed, theorized and analyzed.

It was about a week or so ago that I was pondering that question again….not getting anywhere with it… same old thoughts rumbling around in my head and then I watched one of David’s interviews and I had, at least for me, an epiphany. David is the epitome of our youth or what we would have loved our youth to be. He exudes pure and simple joy when singing, when talking, when just being quiet. There are no filters for David…he sees life as it is and makes opportunities where none should exist. Every day is another wonderful opportunity for him to learn and to experience….life….and he looks at it as we did when we were young….without layers…without prejudices….and we see it every time we see him or hear him sing….he allows us to see and connect with what has lain dormant in us and that feeling is impossible to walk away from or deny.

I don’t think David will ever lose that part of him,regardless of the tragedies or difficult moments in his life. I believe he will always approach his life with a sense of wonder. We are the fortunate ones to be able to sense that and reach into our own souls and experience that unfiltered joy again

I have decided I want to hear him sing every song stripped, unplugged, and wordless! Nothing should come in between that voice and our heart!”

I agree with you and Liz#100. I could listen to him sing without words for a whole CD. For a while I had to listen to Contiga En La Distancia everyday and I don’t understand a word of Spanish.

In college I majored in painting and drawing and came to feel that often content, story-telling, and reality can get in the way of the expression of pure emotion. When all you have is color and shape and movement, there are no distractions, and if you open yourself up to it, the experience is powerful.

I think David does this when he sings without words. There are no distractions from the pure power and beauty of his voice, nothing to think about or understand. There is only the voice, abstracted from reality, and for that moment, nothing else exists.
