Journaling
Reflection and Discovery

As I was reading David’s recent blog entry, I stopped in the middle and thought to myself, this is so amazing – I’m reading a letter from this preposterously talented, successful guy who’s out on tour traveling thousands of miles, working on two albums and spending time with his cousins, and he’s writing a letter to me. Okay, you might have gotten a copy of it too, but really, how many years has it been since I wrote a letter even half that long to a family member or even a friend, much less someone I don’t even know? I think I need more fingers and toes to calculate that sum.
So then I continued reading his blog, and he got to the part about his journal-keeping. He enthusiastically encouraged each of us to start one. I had to blush a bit here, because I truly wonder what he would think if he saw my journal with the poems, the pondering, the inspiration, the dreams, the blog comments, and the responses to blog comments. It’s really quite an enigma, but David has pretty much dominated my journal for the last year and a half.

So, what’s so great about a journal, anyway? Why is David so enthusiastic about this activity?
from David’s blog, June 30, 2009
“I made it my New Year’s Resolution to write at least once a week in it though, and at first I thought there’s no way I’m going to keep this going lol. But surprisingly, I’ve been doing really well with it and I’m so glad that I have. It really helps you sort your thoughts out, and also gets your mind kicking into gear.”
I keep a journal, not so much to keep track of this or that event or conscious thought, but to just let my mind wander about wherever it wants. Some of the most fun entries start from a random word and take off down a road I never would have traveled. It’s fascinating to walk back along that obscure road and see what I brought back with me.
“How can I know what I think ’til I see what I say?”
- E.M. Forster
Journaling. This is another quality that’s so amazing about David. With everything he’s got going on in his life, he manages to carve out a space to talk to us as if we were his closest friends, and ramble on about something that we share in common. Who knew? We’re both fans of journaling.
You fill your lungs with a song
three notes in, I’m gone
vanished into your vortex.

HIGHERVIBE — beautiful article, bravo!
How do you that?
Bleed on paper
What my heart is after?
Highervibe, thanks for this article. It really is a testament to David’s discipline and commitment.
Speaking of – Ahem – journaling, I finally joined Twitter! (Dear God, what have I gotten myself into?). That’s what I get for following David (who is the only reason why I joined).
True HG, SO true. The things we do for that guy!
Where do I begin to explain to friends that the reason am not inclined on replying to social invites online is because it goes beyond my original purpose — all David related LOL
Oh my…

Thanks to isupportyouarchie for providing the videos. I think you will find her background story (indicated in youtube’s description window) quite heartwarming
“This was my First time ever Seeing David Perform Live ! I went to see David at his Summer Tour with Demi at Little Rock , AR . July 2nd , 2009 . Here are some Videos of David at the Concert . I appologize for the Bad Quality of these Videos , we had Bad Seating ( side view ) so I was too far away for any Close up’s . The Lighting was terrible , it was extremly Dark in there , with Stage lights reflecting off the Camera . Some of the Vids came out Blurry & Grainy and David sometimes looked like a Shadow , but overall , you could hear his Amazing voice . My Teenage daughter did the Video , while I was enjoying the Show . This was her & I First time ever Videoing a Concert . I hope you enjoy these Vids of David , he is totally Incredible ! This was the Best night of my Life ! “
FRESNOBEEHIVE is asking the audience to review – WT?? If not odd, this totally laughable it is not even funny for obvious reasons
http://fresnobeehive.com/2009/07/you_review_demi.html
Thanks for that link, JR. Hmmmm, I’m not sure I’m liking where this is headed. Between the weak review and this comparison question – “Who was better, Demi or David?” – WTH? I’m sorry, but if someone is getting a bit peeved that David, the “opening act,” is outshining the headliner, whose fault is that? Didn’t they know this would happen?
HG #2: You can’t resist anymore?
Speaking of twitter, this twitter exchange cracked me up.
I miss @DavidArchie ! Wasn’t able to surf the net for 3 days!12:10 AM Jul 10th from Sun Alertz. Glaiq
@glaiq Really? I’m sorry. It’s actually probably good for you haha. I’m addicted to it so when I don’t have it it’s a breath of fresh air!12:12 AM Jul 10th from web in reply to glaiq
So this fan cried out to the cyberspace that she missed David Archuleta, and lo and behold, two minutes later, David Archuleta Mr. Twitter Universe himself sneaked up behind her and said (paraphrasing): You missed me? haha. Maybe it’s time for you to get a life…
It’s a bit like praying to God and all of sudden God materialized and patted you on the shoulder from behind. Twitter glory, don’t you think?!
“Maybe it’s time for you to get a life…”
YJfanofdavid, did David really say something like this?! That’s borderline rude (even in jest) and doesn’t really sound like him.
See how Twitter is a loose cannon!
OK, I get it now. I was taking your paraphrase literally thinking that was David’s response when he was the one posting “Really? I’m sorry. It’s actually probably good for you haha. I’m addicted to it so when I don’t have it it’s a breath of fresh air!”
Now, that’s more like him. haha!
Did that fan recover from Mr. Twitter Universe answering her prayers?
So, how exactly does this twitter thing work? I just signed up and already, apart from some of TDCers I’m following here, complete strangers have randomly decided to “follow” me. Who the heck are they? I mean, I barely tweeted much.
This digital “stalking” is something I guess I will get used to.
HG, I don’t have half the talent with computers or technology that you have, although because of David, (what he makes us do?) I have also joined in the twitter madness!
YJfanofdavid, I am sure I would’ve needed CPR if David tweeted me. Lucky girl!
Have we seen this?
(Ohhhhh…to have only been there!)
This particular tour was a terrible idea from the start. It demeans David. What I don’t understand is how some of his fans are all right with it. He’d have utilized his time better by focusing on the new albums instead of exhausting himself in support of a little-known upstart like Levato.
Praepos, I totally agree with you. But I do understand where other fans were coming from. They really thought this was an opportunity to get exposure to a Disney crowd (as if his appearance on Hannah Montana, plus recording a duet with Miley Cyrus, didn’t already accomplish this) and to keep his name out there this summer.
My only issue, right now, is whether or not some of the negative reviews are designed to shore up Demi (no, I wouldn’t put it past Disney to influence media), and that latest comparison fan review is seriously wrongheaded. It seems like David might need to “perform down” lest he upsets Disney by upstaging one of their talents.
Yup angelofdja. Vid was posted here 3 or 4 threads ago I think. It is a cut from this video posted on March 2009 -- it starts at around 2:15

Check out this vid of TMH -- showing the crowd when David enters the stage. Too bad it is just a partial footage of Crush
CRUSH partial thanks to MissKathy
But at least we have a full ALTNOY from MissKathy
Looks like Fresno was crazy over the opening act!
What does David get out of any of this? Absolutely nothing. His fans are tiring of his set, night after night. No matter how well performed. He might be expanding his base with the kids–but he loses standing with a lot of grownups who took his music seriously.
David took the scarf off at the end (progress…)
Highervibe, Nice post! Today E.M. Forster would probably say:
How can I know what I think ’til I see what I tweet?”
praepos # 16, unfortunately I have to agree with you. I LOVE David’s singing but am tired of the songs. I hope he has gained some new fans and is growing more comfortable with the stage (performance).
I have started listening to other artists just because I am worn out on his album songs which most were not that great (heresy!!!) I just love his voice and thats all we had to listen to except for AI songs which I am now going back to.
Wish he could have done some cover songs on this tour. He sooooo makes them better and “his own”. Even the little snippet we got of Como La Flor on utube is awesome but only Texas fans got to hear that in concert
Like with any huge undertaking in life – there are pro and cons to every situation. On paper it may have looked like a good fit without taking into account the quality of the talent or performance styles.
Some people are comparing production styles and finding David’s lacking. Demi IS a disney star and headliner, so obviously she will have costume changes and a bigger set production. David is there to sing out his heart, and promote his album (after all he has to make a living), not necessarily to put on a ahow. Demi’s talent is good for her demographic. We however know who the real talent is. As one reviewer said last week, the only thing David has in common with Demi and KSM is his age.
I only wish his management would have a digital form of a suggestion box like a website so that David’s fans could have an opportunity to voice their suggestions or concerns. They won’t have to take it seriously but at least it would give them feedback before they make solid decisions.
I don’t know if any performer has something like that but it sure is a heart wish.
Joymus, the only reason to have such a suggestion box is if they didn’t have any ideas for David. Obviously, they already have one (to market David to tweens), which is why they’re going down this route.
They certainly think it’s worth the risk of alienating his older fans to go for this particular demographic. My only concern is this particular group are terribly fickle.
Like my tween buddy who I took to see David at Northern Lights last December (back when she was into all things David Archuleta). It’s now summer, and she’s so over David, now that she’s 12 (what a huge leap, huh? And yes, that’s how she says it – like she’s sooooo grown now). She’s got her eyes set on “edgier” bands and movie stars like Hugh Jackman from Wolverine.
And that’s just, what?, 7 months ago? Meanwhile, it’s been over a year, and we, his adult fans, are still here. But, oops! We don’t matter as a demographic, do we now? *snark.*
OK, more vids uploaded to FRESNO Page – 3 more songs to go: MY Hands, WFM & Barriers

Thanks for highlighting his journaling Highervibe. Great post.
Praopos – I’m, going to have to disagree. Of course we have to keep hearing the same songs. He has one album out. But he is working on #s 2 and 3. I have been on Twitter for awhile now and every concert has been *twittercast*. He has been gaining new fans. Who the heck cares how old they are? It isn’t all about me, a 48 year old grandma.
Do I wish it was a solo tour? Of course. But at this stage I don’t think David could sell out the Nokia theater in LA by himself. He is still paying his dues. Cook isn’t even playing there at all.
David hasn’t lost any standing with me. I love him more than ever. And his voice and performances are stronger and better than ever.
Everytime we get into a discussion about his marketing – it literally gives me the hebbie jeebies and I feel like I want to tear my hair out. Maybe the summer tour could have been with a more mature act and definitely included more covers and a rotation of different songs from his album. But at the end of the day he still has to promote the heck out of this album. It was his first effort after all and its not as if he’d recorded all those covers.
IDK anymore. What’s done is done. speaking for myself – I’m just gonna leave it alone, support him with my VIP – cause he’s important to me, and wish him all the luck with his future efforts. I know I will never abandon him, my support is not fickle and I have to believe that in time he will get where we would like to see him.
Unfortunately, we’ve got a long road to travel with his management/label team. Sigh…
Although I agree that I’m ready for new songs by David — covers or originals or anything — I also think that this tour has some value in that David will win new fans. Could be young Demi fans. Could be their parents or aunts or the folks David’s own fans bring along for the experience. He won’t win over every attendee and he won’t win every fan forever, but he’ll win some new fans. And if it works, it works.
Also wanted to say that, yes, David’s ODD-suffering fans might be weary of his set, but his set wasn’t designed to be watched obsessively every dang day via the videos. (But please, please keep posting them, because I’m watching too.) Often he manages to make a few change-ups (or throw off his scarf or move his shoulders in a new way
) to keep us interested. I am also now shuffling through my music collection, and playing other artists as well as David. That’s the way it should be. It’s the way David himself would want it, I’d guess.
Love the dedicated work that you do, JR, but I actually try and avoid most of these videos precisely because I don’t want to grow tired of them. Only when I want to hear a particular song (like “Apoogize” or “ZG”) do I look at them.
Fortunately, which is why I eventually signed up, I get something new from David’s twitter. And every now and then, there’ll be a video that I miss which is what I visit when I’m nostalgic for a particular song.
The only thing tiring, to me, are certain fan sites that post a lot of trivial stuff. I’m glad TDC hasn’t gotten redundant like that, or, as in the case of this latest article, has something new and interesting to discuss about David.
I think Betsy has a point, and one thing I’m learning is patience. Look, I have some favorite music artists who go on hiatus for nearly 10 years (like Sade), so if we have any David news at all to keep us interested between albums, that’s a good thing, isn’t it?
Of course, I am wondering: Which is preferable? Having David out of the public view this summer, working on his album, or being on this tour right now?
Highervibe,
Permit me to congratulate you afer the fact about your terrific post on Journaling. I have never done it but having joined a fansite where one has no recourse but to write is a great start for me and has inspired me to submit longer posts to the admin. The ability to express oneself in writing is definitely liberating to a large extent.
Thank You Again for your post.
highervibe: I love what YOU journaled. And it does amaze me that David, at 18, gets the power of journaling. He’s a pretty incredible guy.
Praepos: The only reason some might be sick of his songs is that we listen to them and watch his videos every single day LOL. I can’t say that about any other artist. I have a huge collection of music on my PC and iPod. And before David (BD) I would listen to a large variety of albums – rarely would I listen to the same one over and over except for the first couple of days after a purchase. And I never youtubed anyone! So, yeah, the songs get tiresome, but its our own fault. LOL
Joymus and others, what I see as positive about this tour is that David gets to do what he absolutely loves – traveling and singing live – and dedicated fans get to see David live again.
Everything else that we think comes from this – exposure to a Disney crowd, new fans, etc. – are just gambles. They may follow David, or they move on to the next big thing.
The only thing I have expressed concern about was this idea that David was aging “backwards” rather than aging forward – in other words, the teen pop stars, who are often marketed to the “tweens” and kiddies, usually get their start at a much younger age than David. Miley Cyrus was 14 when she became a hit. The JoBros not much older. Demi is still 16 and I’m sure started younger with her TV show. In short, none of them started this route when they were 18.
It’s clear, the older they get (i.e. when they reach age 18), they want to move away from this tween set and be marketed to the young adult set.
My thinking was, David, with his exposure on AI, didn’t necessarily need to cater to the Disney crowd (or at least not so heavily). And, I must also add, I don’t have a problem if the Disney crowd was included in the marketing of David, but I do have a problem when this is the primary group that is being visibly marketed to.
If this is about promoting David’s CD, I’ll believe that when I start hearing his music on the radio (but then, I understand it gets played on Radio Disney, which is fine, but what about other stations? Oh yeah, other demographics don’t count, right?).
I dunno. It’s one summer, and David gets to have fun and meet with his devoted fans, maybe get some new ones who may hang on until album #2 or even for the Christmas album (is this still in the works? I hope, after all the Jeff fiasco, that this plan hasn’t been axed – God, I hope not!).
It’s a phase (like everything Disney is), and having heard David himself say how much he’s looking to move beyond a “teen pop star” image, I’m sure we’ll get there soon enough.
Speaking of taking a hiatus. I realize the time will come one day when even David may reach a saturation point and will significantly decrease his outreach to fans.
Apart from performing I think he will soon recognize that there are other aspects of life to experience and it will become more difficult to upkeep a high profile. He has to do this now to jumpstart his music career but will probably withdraw himself as the need arises.
So bring on the vids – I cherish them all.
Talk To You Guys Later.
I don’t want to start something here–but I still ask: what does David get out of this? Nothing. Where are these new album sales from these “new” fans? What I see instead is precious time lost that could have been put to good use focusing on the albums coming up. David is exhausted. He’s been going non-stop since he first auditioned for idol–including the trip to Asia. No wonder he’s run-down and gets sick! Nor have his fans let up on their demands from him. What he should be doing is taking stock, focusing on new music, including writing. He himself decried the rush-job on the first album–due to demands of the AI tour. Now he’s doing TWO albums in between tour dates. How focused is that? I’m sorry but opening for someone like Levato–who is a 16yr. old wannabe, not an established star, and Disney to boot–was a huge mistake. It demeans David. I don’t understand fan support for such a move.
Thinking of David reaching a saturation point makes me think of us reaching our saturation point with ODD. Nah, not something I want to think of at the moment.
The difference between my concert buddy from Northern Lights and myself is that I’m still on the Archuleta Express, and age does have something to do with it (as well as patience).
I’m committed to the heart sign and the future potential I can so clearly see that others might not.
So, let’s cherish everything as we speak, even as we anticipate much more!
On that note, I need to go run my Saturday errands.
Signing off until next time!
Praepos, at least David is getting paid and having fun. That’s something if there’s nothing else, isn’t it?
And no, when I say that, I’m by no means supporting this concert move, which I didn’t think was a good idea either. But, it’s done, and I don’t see David backing out now, so I hope he’s getting paid good money while he’s having fun, if he gets nothing else out of it.
I strongly believe in David’s talent. The voice and spirit is there undiminished when he’s had a chance to rest. But he’s not a machine. You can’t manufacture sincere emotions while singing the same songs day after day, week after week, month after month. I realize this is what touring is all about–but this has been non-stop touring, which is something else. Had he opened for a real star, maybe this kind of grueling grind might have been justified. But Levato’s not a real star. He loses more credibility than he gains being paired with her.
I hope David’s having fun–but I doubt it at this point. Getting so sick he couldn’t be moved from the bus to the hotel–and then having to perform two nights later–can’t be fun. My guess is he’s bone-tired but determined to get through it all regardless.
One final thought and then I’ll shut up. When David toured with McFly, stories popped up about his friendship with those guys. I think it’s significant nothing similar has emerged from this tour. No backstage friendliness is coming through at all. I can understand why.
Praepos, the last illness was actually food poisoning, according to David. Not much could prevent that even if he wasn’t tired. Just saying.
I’m not tired of his set.
I think he IS gaining a lot of fans.
I think he’s having fun.
He loves to travel.
He loves to sing.
His voice is in top form (with the exception of Glendale from the residual illness)
I follow the twitter ~ and he’s winning folks over young and old.
Remember ~ Demi’s fanbase is extremely young .. and I mean YOUNG .. children… children can’t go to concerts alone .. guess who has to bring them.. lots of people of all ages are being exposed to David.. many have never heard anything since he’s come off AI.
Other than the crap filled review from Arizona ~ he’s clearly stealing the show.
If it was up to ME .. I’d change up the set .. I’d get rid of ALTNOY and CRUSH .. replace it with Let Me Go ..and the Medley .. better yet .. a full version of ONE would be great ..
As to backstage friendships ~ it’s a tremendously smart move on David’s part to keep his distance ~ a few poorly placed photos of David hanging out with under aged girls ~ considering the circumstances ~ is exactly what everyone waiting in the wings to tarnish David’s image.. is waiting for.
You’ll find no one, more dismayed about this pairing than me on the onset ~ but it’s going great. David is having a ball ~ he’s outshining the headliner ~ he’s doing a short set ~ he’s traveling ~ seeing lots of family … and he’s making money.
Joymus #30
“David may reach a saturation point and will significantly decrease his outreach to fans. ”
BLASTPHEMER!
Abrra
I suppose anything can be rationalized. I ask again–when does he get a chance to think about some new music? Looks to me like another album rush-job is in the works. And for what? Certainly not for “new fans.” If they’re out there, they aren’t buying his debut album.
JR4da #14,
Thanks for showing me the whole version. Who knows how I missed it!?
praepos ~ we don’t know ~ we simply don’t ~ there’s so much we can only speculate at.
remember ~ David submitted a boatload of stuff to Jive for the first run ~ there may be a treasure trove of stuff already selected from that body of work.
Stuff initially rejected by Jive (ZG or one) is a concert favorite everywhere ~ GREAT ~ wake up call for Jive.
In particular ~ I am salivating to find out about Nobody Knows .. David Cowrote it ~ have no idea what it sounds like or when it will show up ~ but it’s there ~ waiting.
I think if David can take this tour ~ and spin into a positive ~ he’ll earn nothing but respect ~ he is notorious for making the best of every given situation.
I’m not rationalizing anything ~ let’s face it ~ this is David’s reality right now ~ he’s in it to win it.
David’s definition of success is all that TRULY matters.
Morning everyone. I think in my recap of Fresno last night/early morning I typed script instead of stripped. Althought David did talk about being able to perform Desperate so that the message is retained.
I have to leave out very soon so I haven’t read the article and most of the comments. However I did see the concern about David’s doing this tour and his material. Yesterday during the VIP David was soo talkative and funny and really seemed to be enjoying himself. At the end, he kept saying he had to go, but would then start talking about something else again. As I mention on the last thread, he was very energetic during his set. There were alot of older fans there, and we stood thoughout his time on the stage. Even though the songs are the same, little changes have been made, and David and the band involves the audience more (ie, getting us to clap our hands, helping to sing parts of the songs). I thoroughly enjoyed myself. I also think that it is unfair for us who have been following David to say that he should be singing something else. There are many, many people who are attending this tour who do not know his music. Should David really only cater to his fans he already have? Yes, we are know each song but that’s because we have listened to his cd a bazillion times. We have attended the Jingle Ball/Bash tour, his solo tour and most of us have gone to a few of these shows. We have listened to his shows via crappy cellcast and then turn around and eagerly wait for the videos to pop up on Youtube so that we can watch them repeatedly. Yes we with ODD/HDD know his music.
David needs to expand his fan base. His album doesn’t seem to be selling very much. His music is not on the radio. There are not only tween and teens attending this current show–their parents are there with them (potential fans). Of course, this is just my 2 cents.
Have a blessed day.
highervibe!!! {{{{hugs}}}} So great to see a posted article by you! I love it!
Too bad I can’t even read all the comments right now as we are about to head out to Santa Rosa (Janey are you here??) to attend a wedding. Which means I had to forgo the San Jose show. That was super painful! A show on a Saturday in a venue closest to me! Why do people have to get married on this Saturday of all Saturdays??!! Like Angelica, I will miss you for a couple of days.
HG #2, LOL!
Almost forgot… JR, I will be going to the Sacramento show (VIP). What does your friend look like? I’ll be on the look out.
Is it truly David’s reality–or is he working out somebody else’s scenario? The truth is he’s being defined FOR us–as something he isn’t–another talent for the kiddies.
Great post, highervibe. Thanks for sharing your journaling, um, preoccupations. I’ve been an on-and-off journal scribbler all my life. And was thrilled to hear David keeping one. Only hope he writes in code or has a big padlock!
praepos, re this tour, I agree, it is hard to see at first glance “what’s in it for David.” But since he seems to follow the “slow and steady wins the race” credo, gaining touring experience and honing his stage chops are sure to stand him in good stead over the long haul.
And nothing like boring hours spent on a bus to get the songwriting wheels turning, too.
As Betsy pointed out, he only has one CD out so far but rather than tiring of the songs, I’m discovering new ones — thanks to the live versions — that I originally glossed over (DLG, WFM, You Can). Of course I keep renewing my MH vows! LOL
David won’t let anyone define who he is. I have too much faith in him for that.
I don’t know ~ I’m just going by the David I met in Newark ~ he’s really happy ~ so something about his reality is working for him. His happiness isn’t just surface happy ~ he’s really a happy person. Something has to matter in that.
Hi all,
Just stopping by to say hi. As usual, great article and healthy discussion here at TDC! I’m going to David’s VIP and show tonight and I am so excited! Are there any others from TDC going? I’m meeting up with some ladies from Snarkies and FOD… just can’t wait. Got my letter and a CD of a past favorite artist of mine, Tina Arena… don’t know if he’ll like it or not, but thought I’d share because before him, I was kind of addicted to her CD. She’s big in Australia and Europe, but never really broke through here.
Anyway, I’ll be back with a recap tomorrow. Have a great weekend everyone!
But David is a novice in the business. There’s a limit to how much control he has over career decisions at this point. I also believe it’s difficult to read David’s mind about these issues–since he’ll put a good face on almost anything.
Tired of David’s set? Tired of his songs? Baby, I don’t think so!
I have not tired of anything David does.
Am I biased? Maybe, but it really doesn’t matter.
By all accounts, by David’s accounts, he is enjoying himself. What an opportunity he’s having to practicing live, his stage presence, his performances, the change ups in his songs, keeping what works and getting rid of what doesn’t. All while not having the stress of headlining. He is smart and wise beyond his years
I watch every single youtube, I’ll be attending a 3rd concert this Friday…and I for the most part know what he will be singing and I can’t wait! Most of Demi’s fans and their parents haven’t heard David, so to them this is new music.
According to twitter, which I’m totally enjoying, he is picking up fans, not only tweeners, but their parents. He is picking up tweet followers by the minute, most of these are newbies to all things David. You don’t have to join twitter to view all twitter activity, I love to read what is being commented by concert attendees and when he tweets all heck breaks loose…. he gets tweets by the hundreds in minutes.
I also lurk on Demi’s fansites, Why? I want to know what they’re saying… Is this concert a waste of his time? True, I don’t particularly like this pairing, but I think not, by all accounts he is gaining fans, selling more cd’s and merchandise at these venues.
As to him working on two albums…the Christmas album is a no brainer, he has been performing these songs by memory for years, proof, the jingle balls, I don’t know anyone else that is capable of of singing those on the fly. Angelica mentioned that David said Joy to the world will be on the album, meaning the Christmas album is still ago.
Dawn mentioned the songs that did not get picked for the album, they’re just sitting waiting to be tapped, three stand out to me Zero Gravity, Fighting for You, Nobody Knows, and I’m praying for the release of Save The Day in the US. This album is not scheduled to come out until the first quarter of next year. He has been writing and collaborating for months now for new material. Doesn’t sound like a rush job to me.
Sorry for the rant…I’m learning and changing my out look on life, life’s challenges from a young man who makes a positive from all things thrown at him. Did I not know this before, yes, but for some reason that I don’t understand and can’t explain they came to life when I was captivated by his voice, and then his character and humility.
Ok I’m done….LOL
highervibe, great post. You’re a very talented “journal-ist.”
And I have started writing in mine again, as ordered.

I know that JR puts up videos from every show. But did you guys get a gander at this DLG. Please don’t let it slip through the cracks of WDVV -- weary of David video viewing.
V, I may be about the only person on here who knows Tina Arena!!! I haven’t heard that name in years. She is HUGE in Australia, like any household singer’s name in America. She got her start on a TV talent show in Australia. For the Americans and others on here, Tina sang at the Sydney Olympics Opening Ceremony in 2000.
V, will be interested to know if David has heard of Tina. If he has, then he has indeed studied the world music charts. He may have heard of her if he knew of John Farnham and Natalia Inbruglia (who did break through in the U.S. with “Torn”).
Hey guys ~
I think praepos raises a lot of interesting points. And I do think the David we see as fans in meet & greets is only one side of him. Look at David in the Snarky interviews ~ more calm, focused, serious about music. So, we really couldn’t know what he thinks about this tour based on fan interactions IMO. Mike K. told fans (according to a post on another site) that the tour wasn’t going all that well due to the low sales. So this may be closer to the truth.
I still worry about those around David — are they really helping him make the best decisions. Take the Christmas album for example – is this still in the works and being “co-produced” by Jeff? Will critics focus on this fact to slam the album? Who else is involved in the production and writing? I had heard some new songs were being written for David and hoped that would be “pop” Christmas songs that might actually get some radio airplay (like Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas is You.”) I still hope this is the case, but from what I’ve seen Richard may actually be writing the “new songs.” Does Richard have experience with major artists? I google searched him and all I could find about his career was that he works with David and a little bit about Jim Brickman.
Sorry for the ramble. Just really concerned about the Christmas album. Hope Jive will really promote it…anyone have any info??
Overall I agree with Dawn. The David I’ve seen this summer is a happy guy. Yes he loves to record but I think most of all he likes to PERFORM. He doesn’t seem to care if it’s 100 people (PC Richards) or 10k and I haven’t seen a shred of boredom or fatigue from him. He’s got a great gig going and yes I’m sure he wishes he were opening for, say, Jordin, but he’s traveling and enlarging his world. I truly believe this is one smart guy and he’s got a keen eye on his career and what he needs to do when. All good things come to those who wait. He seems to have total faith in the path he’s on, plus his new-found independence clearly agrees with him.
highervibe, thx for the post on journaling! i just read thru the journal i kept during my teens. on wed, april 4, 1984, i had a lot to say about the tragic death of marvin gaye. i bet david has an entry related to michael jackson.
goboywonder, thx for the concert recap! it wasn’t until recently that i began to like ‘desperate’. i hope david follows thru w/an acoustic version.
i have tired of some of david’s album songs only because i have listened to them so much. however, seeing and hearing david live, brings new life to his music. the utube and the studio recordings don’t fully capture the texture of voice.
i just made this comment on HG’s blog souldavid.wordpress.com. i believe the release date for the 2nd pop album has been moved back because he doesn’t mention recording for it during his days off. if it has, i think it’s a good thing.
desertrat – you’re right, it’s probably a good thing the pop album’s been pushed back. Although, am I the only one who’s a little bit peeved that Jive signed two idol artists this year? They better not be putting D on the backburner because of this!!
River #56 “plus his new-found independence clearly agrees with him.”
and a lowkey, nonstress filled run is the best way for him to get his feet wet. my feeling is David has longed for this day, and it’s coming with lots of adjustments.
As much as we want him to conquer the world .. I’d rather see him pace himself .. enjoy the ride .. and go for the marathon .. not the sprint.
He is all of 18 ..
It’s easy to get entrenched in the fact he transcends age .. with his voice, his morals, his beliefs .. heck .. just the stuff that comes out of his mouth baffles me .. and that’s great…
BUT
He is all of 18 ..
He’s got time.
Maybe this is his way of passing it ..
He doesn’t even know what he wants to do yet ..
So I think he’s going to take advantage of this gig .. as a way to keep him out there .. while he figures it all out.
And Mike K may not be happy with ticket sales .. that’s his view on it ..
David hasn’t said either way .. and I’m pretty sure no one speaks for him .. he’s getting too bossy for that
joymus, I saw that video earlier, some pretty fancy footwork there (and why do I get the feeling he hasn’t shown everything yet; but, will he ever?) WDVV, lol!
I am a card carrying member of the NeverWDVV club. Too many artistic changes, too much voice, too much passion, too many moves, too much talent, too much soul, too much joy, too much love…I will never tire of it…nope, never.
#52. Wow, Joymus, thanks for posting that DLG. That backward dance he does at 1:44 was worth a few looks. (DLG is one of the songs that David has really sold to me by performing it live.)
v & freofan..I lOVE Tina Arena…OMG yes! I especially love Chains, Sorrento Moon and Wasn’t It Good. She has a great voice!
OK, carry on…I’m a lurker today.
David’s got time–but that doesn’t mean he’s immune from the consequences of bad decisions. This Disney turn can only set him back with the college-aged demographic–and those older. That’s not something to celebrate and some fans are living in a fantasy world if they think it is.
Nor do I think that we know whether David’s actually happy about the tour or not. He seems cheerful enough–but that’s no indication of anything. I think we can all agree David’s emotions are not that transparent. Nothing seems to actually ruffle him externally–but this is no indication of what he’s actually thinking or feeling about the tour. When the scandal broke recently, he was just as upbeat, just as cheerful. But who would doubt he was torn up inside?
With David we need to read between the lines. Imo he hasn’t appeared all that “happy” lately–not as he appeared while touring with McFly and appearing on the O’Grady show–and as he appeared in Asia, especially on tv in Manila. He radiated joy at that time and it was palpable. You had to smile just watching him. That’s not what he’s showing lately, though he seems cheerful enough.
The fact is David is on this tour–whether he should or shouldn’t be is mute. We all wish everything could be apple pie and roses for him, but that’s not reality. This isn’t a career defining tour. It is something he was signed up to do–and he’s giving it his best. Anyone who sees and hears his performances knows he is not Disney.
This is just one rung of a ladder—going up!!
I could put up with the teen Disney strategy, if they were doing it full heartedly. But the Miley duet turned out to be a back up singing. The Demi tour did not promote David at all. Really, what duh?
Thank goodness David would make the best out of every situation. Irate as I am, I am convinced that something good will come out of all this for David.
As to his fans, one good thing about this Demi tour is the VIP package. I would get to finally meet David and say hi to him. Don’t laugh at me. I was trying to get a hair cut yesterday, but my stylist’s on vacation. So, won’t be in “top” form when I see him today.
Still, Am So Excited right now.
David is on tour now, and we aren’t going to change that. But, I think this is not a bad thing for him. Let him perfect his performance skills and build up his voice (geez, if he builds that up any more, I’ll faint!) on this kiddy crowd. Let him write and prepare that sophomore album and THEN tour solo or with someone who is more in line with his skills and style. This is not time lost, this is time for perfecting his skills and developing his style.
Right now, the current music is good because David puts his personality into it. If someone else sang it, not so much.
But it’s not moot at all. Fans can protest; they can refuse to participate; they can show they are indignant. He was signed to enhance the prestige of someone less talented and well-known than himself. That was a major insult. The least the fan sites can do is show their displeasure with this. Instead they seem fully on board and get sappier by the hour.
I won’t refuse to participate ever.
Whatever he does .. I’m there.
If he’s going to give 100% .. so am I.
I can’t speak for fan sites .. but I can speak for myself.
I won’t forsake ANYTHING he does .. because no matter what .. I will support him.. no matter WHAT.
How can you say this .. in one post ..
I think we can all agree David’s emotions are not that transparent.
And then two posts later .. this ..
Imo he hasn’t appeared all that “happy” lately
I for one .. think the Apologize at DelMar .. was telling of what he’d just been through.
I think he’s ONE class act .. being out there .. doing what he does .. loving what he does .. with all the crap going on in his life.. at the worst TIME in his life.
And because I’m not over the moon about the Demi pairing .. I should turn my back on him?
Never.. I’ll walk through fire if I had to .. bare foot across glass…
because I BELIEVE IN HIM..and my faith in him does not come with conditions.
Now that’s all I’ll say on this.
sorry .. peruu .. I’m excited FOR you .. poopoo on the haircut .. David just got an awful one.. and he’s cool .. he’ll be cool with you as well.. he isn’t looking at your hair.. he’s looking at your heart .. and that will impress him.
Have a BLAST !
Regardless of whether anyone agrees or disagrees with this tour, it is a done deal. They aren’t comtemplating it, thinking about it, it is happening. Some choose to accept that, take it for what it is and move forward. Nothing wrong with that. For each one of us supporting David means something different, to each his own.
and dawn, yes…”If he’s going to give 100% .. so am I.”
praepos: I totally understand and share your concerns. Just the thought of his name being connected in any way to any teen/pop/idol star makes me cringe and want to throw up, especially a disney star. And it’s true most teen stars can’t wait to get out of that image and prove they’re grown up. Miley, at 16, is already doing that with her risque’ photo shoot. And David starting out in his late teens is already past that teeny-bopper set, so for him to try and to connect to that fan base now does seem to be backtracking and self defeating. And that age group is definately fickled and will fall for anything that is the hottest, latest, and greatest out there at the time.
Having said that though, I don’t think anyone can say exactly what effect this will have, good or bad. I do know that I have read many comments and youtube videos of Demi fans who went to the concert either not liking David, knew little of him other than being on AI, or had never heard of him at all, and after hearing him were blown away and came away David fans as well, many saying they went out and bought his album. So venue after venue of thousands of people in the crowd, he’s bound to pick up many fans. How many of them will buy his cds and how many will remain fans, time will tell.
I also think that we as fans are more worried about his success than he is. We want him to sell more cds than anyone else. We want him to win every contest and every award out there. We want him to be more popular than anyone else and get the recognition that he deserves. We are the fanatic fans, and with good reason. But we have to remember that David IS doing what he has always wanted to do, just SING. He has said many times that he never dreamed he would ever be doing what he is doing now at this age. He is thrilled to be doing this and grateful and appreciative of every opportunity he gets. He has said that, for him, it is not about selling the most records, or making money, or being famous, or being better than anyone else, even though he is. Those are the things we want for him. But it’s about doing what he enjoys doing, singing as much as he can. Frankly, I don’t think he would be happy stuck in a studio all the time working. He is at his happiest when he is singing, no matter where it is, to how many people, or what he is singing.
I also believe he has the talent and ability and energy to record while touring. That’s what keeps him fueled, inspired, alive. He is in no way ready to slow down and take it easy. He is on fire and on the ride of his life! I also think he knows exactly what he’s doing. He might not be in total control of all the decisions at this point in his career, but he is not blind, stupid, or dumb either, and is not going to be drug around by the neck doing stuff he doesn’t want to do. He is no fool and nobody’s puppet. He is in control of himself, can stand up for himself, and can take care of himself. I totally believe that. And he is not going to do something that he does not want to do or feel good about. There is alot more to him than meets the eye. I think there is a strength and will of steel beneath that calm demeanor. He is not going to let anyone steer him wrong. We have to trust that. He might be the sweetest, nicest person on earth, but he is not naive. The more confidence and experience he gains, the more power and control he will gain.
In David’s own words:
“Maybe it’s a big mistake,
But baby, that’s a chance that I’ll take.”
“I know you’re just trying to help me out,
Thanks, but I’ll follow my heart instead.”
“I don’t worry about where I’m goin,
Cause I know just where I want to be,
And it’s time for you to see…”
“You said I don’t know what I want, but
it worked out just fine.”
“You said it never could be done, but
it worked out just fine.”
It’s definately worked out for him so far and I have no doubt it will continue to. Just because it’s not the road or path we think he should take to get there or as fast as we think it should be, the bottom line is he’ll get there on his own time and no one else’s. And that definately works for me!
emmiegirl – I am a card carrying member of the NeverWDVV club. Too many artistic changes, too much voice, too much passion, too many moves, too much talent, too much soul, too much joy, too much love…I will never tire of it…nope, never.
Where do I sign up for one these cards? And never ever!
dakgal – This is just one rung of a ladder—going up!!
Up, up and away!
dawn – because I BELIEVE IN HIM..and my faith in him does not come with conditions.
Love and faith is always unconditional.
Does this make me sappy? Cheesy? Clicheish? Probably, but we all have a choice….get a lemon and make lemonade or become sour.
Fans should support David, yes. But this doesn’t mean pretending the tour is what it isn’t. It’s not a means for expanding his fan base. It’s not a feather in David’s cap. It’s a deal between Disney and Jive–with David’s getting the short end of the stick. Why can’t we all be honest enough to just admit this? Why the pretense that it’s a step up the ladder of success?
Praepos: I just don’t agree that this is the worst thing that could happen to David. I’m not being dishonest, I just think it will all work out. Lots of new entertainers have to play in grungy bars, at County fairs, with people who they will surpass. Sometimes you just have to take what is offered and go with it.
If it were up to me, David would have a full orchestra along with his band, be playing in only stadiums and pulling the crowd on his own, but that just isn’t happening yet. Someday? You bet, but we just have to give it time.
I’m not suggesting this is the worst thing that could happen to David. But I AM suggesting that since his talent is first rate, he shouldn’t be treated like a second-rater. I could see his opening for a bona fide star–someone who can pull crowds into an arena–but he’s opening for a newcomer who has yet to prove herself. Jive did not serve David well–and David himself has short-changed his own talent by accepting the implications of this tour with his usual humility. David, after all, is David. But that doesn’t mean his fans have to go along with the charade. All this is doing is exhausting him vocally and physically–without the big crowds that might have justified all this had he opened for a real star. His sales remain flat as a consequence. So what has he gotten out of all this in the final analysis? Certainly not expansion of his fanbase. And certainly no prestige–just the opposite. He may make a little money, after the band gets theirs–but I doubt it can compensate for all the rest.
The tour remains a lemon. Only in the fantasies of some fans is it converted to lemonade.
Oh My Heck ~ katsue ~ fresh on the scene ~ speaking volumes. LOVE everything you said.
Praepos ~ first let me apologize ~ because after I my last post ~ I thought ~ wow Dawn~ that was a little dramatic wasn’t it ?
But then it got me working on an introspective look .. and nothing invokes that kind of protective nature in me .. with the exception of my own children and grandchildren.
While David is not my child … and I don’t see him as helpless .. OR a child .. the mere suggestion that I should turn away from him .. really hit a core nerve for some reason.
Perhaps it took me back to my days of ridicule .. by friends and family who didn’t get my ODD .. and what was once fun ribbing turned into some serious insults .. who knows.
We ALL .. across the board .. across fan sites .. have NEVER .. (with the exception of a small handful of folks that actually think there’s talent within the Disney walls) ..been over the moon with this tour. I for one threw myself on the floor and threw temper tantrums with the best of them.
But as it’s been said .. it IS what it IS .. and so I ran right out and bought every ticket to every show I could get to.. and don’t regret that decision.
David will not always be a teenager .. David will not always be with Jive .. David MAY not always be chasing this dream .. at any given day .. David could have a chat with his God that tells him .. okay .. you’ve done enough with this .. we have something else to do now .. and that’s gonna be IT.
With THAT in mind.. and make no mistake.. I believe that with my entire being .. that David is guided by his faith .. I’m on his side .. for as long as he needs me .. and let’s face it .. without US .. there’s no one to support David .. so I’ll bite the bullet .. and ride out the storm..because David does .. every day.
I see from Daniel’s twitter that he’s going to the concert tonite and possibly more. he’s really on the move. probably good for him.
That’s good to know River ~ Maybe his family will travel with him for a bit since he’s on the west coast for a bit now. But according to David .. he doesn’t miss them .. and isn’t homesick .. so that will work .. I guess they decided if you can’t beat ‘em .. join ‘em. They better gets lots of rest .. cause David is endless energy .. and his voice is still dehydrated .. haha.
He’s a silly boy ..
Brooke is on the case. Recommending Vicks steamer. She’s such a dear.
dawn65 (especially #69) and dakgal~ amen! to your thoughts–David will do what has to be done to make it all work out, and it will work out!! We don’t know all that is going on, and we don’t need to–We just need to be supporters for what David brings to us and not labor over what we don’t see (or think we need to see). I’m on David’s wagon 100%!
highervibe–thanks for the reminder–I really should get my dusty journal back out and start writing in it again. I’m so slack in being consistent with it. I’m gonna give it another shot. (wondering where I’ve put it?)
You know.. that could actually be it .. I’m not real familiar with that weather .. but in Texas, Oklahoma and Georgia .. the humidity is VERY high .. so that’s why he was so on the money .. especially in Duluth.. wowza.
The high heat in Arizona had to be very dry .. coupled with the stomach issues ..
Get that shower running David
wondering? what is wdvv?
WDVV = weary of David video viewing. Joymus created this acronym back in post 52.
What makes you think that for someone to criticize Jive for putting David in this situation would mean that person’s not on David’s side? One thing has nothing to do with the other. Let’s be logical here. This is a discussion about a reality. Nobody is suggesting the reality can be changed at this point. But that doesn’t mean it can’t be discussed for what it is. I see the tour not only as a big mistake, but as a blow to David’s prestige. Fans may want to pretend otherwise–but the facts would prove to be on my side.
What FACTS???????????????????????
WHAT FACTS???????????????????????
HOW IS THIS DAMAGING TO DAVID ???
I want to know the FACTS now.
Please .. enlighten me ..
I’m seriously curious now.
AND .. the FACT is that even David’s SOLO TOUR didn’t help CD sales all that much .. so how on EARTH is this damaging to David.
I’m going to step away from the keyboard now.. with my disillusioned notions.. that David is doing just swell.
No one here is pretending. Holy cow, we’re all too opinionated for that!
I don’t see anyone here holding back, not expressing there true thoughts and feelings. It’s just varying points of view. We each see things from our own perspective, sometimes it jives with others, sometimes it doesn’t.
Saying one more time–highervibe, what a great article!! Anyone else out there in agreement? Let it be posted!!!!!! SB,SF,Rascal??
thanks desertrat #85–somehow I missed that one.
dawn65–”I’m going to step away from the keyboard now.. with my disillusioned notions.. that David is doing just swell.” me too, I need to finish my Saturday’s housework.
Wow, I didn’t realize this debate was still going on!
First, Dawn, you said:
“He doesn’t even know what he wants to do yet ..”
I’m not sure I agree with that anymore. It might have been true at one time, but I think, after this debut album, David has a much stronger sense of where he wants to go musically, and YES he has said he’s ready to move beyond the “teen pop” madness at the least.
“David’s got time–but that doesn’t mean he’s immune from the consequences of bad decisions. This Disney turn can only set him back with the college-aged demographic–and those older. ”
Praepos, I feel you on this issue. I really, really do. But, I would venture to think that the college-aged demographic and older, who are not following David as closely as we are, are probably not even aware of the Disney spin David has been dealing with of late. Thank goodness his label hasn’t been trumpeting this tween route from the rooftops, otherwise David would really have to work hard at shedding this Disney image later down the road. Fortunately, only the hardcore Archies know about this (and those who have kids listening to Radio Disney). Now, whether or not the rest of the music industry feels this way is another thing, but so far, the story from this tour is that David is miles ahead of the Disney crowd. I sincerely hope they’ve learned their lesson.
But, as a fanbase, we’re not going to see eye to eye on this. If we did, then the tour sales would have been drastically worse than it is (and if we’re going by what Mike Krompass said, then someone higher up is a bit unhappy at how things turned out this summer). THAT, Praepos, is how the label and management will get the message from the fans.
My only concern with that kind of strategy (”don’t like the tour, don’t buy it”) is whether or not it will have certain repercussions (like LittleM mentioning David possibly getting backburned). Jive is not the kind of label to cut loose its artists quickly, and there’s no reason to do so with an 18 year old new artist whose debut includes a platinum single and gold album. However, they haven’t done crap to promote David in any way, and I’m frankly getting tired of labels relying on the Idol success of Idol alumni without putting out their own efforts. If they’re not happy with tour sales, whose fault is that? Certainly not David’s.
I have faith in David, not much in Jive, and that’s that, unfortunately. I wouldn’t even panic if his label cut him loose in the future, provided a smarter label grabbed him soon and hooked him up with a producer who would be the Quincy Jones to his Michael Jackson. That, of course, is my own wish, but if David stays with Jive, I hope they can do right by him with his second or third album.
I haven’t heard much recording news from David, so maybe it will be some time before he gets the sophomore album out. And, if he is being backburned, then let David finish his high school diploma in the interim. Or have the much needed time to hone his songwriting skills.
David is in it to make music, and if this is what he’s going to be doing for the rest of his life (I don’t see him turning back nowl), he’s smart enough to take advantage of what’s being offered to him at the moment. He already has his foot in the door; indeed, it’s been thrust wide open. Maybe, with Daddy Dearest out of the way, he has even more opportunities in steering this baby in the direction he wants.
That can only be a good thing.
HiYa HG …
I was very against this tour .. but from just reading twitter along .. and being at the show .. David is winning them over .. many that didn’t KNOW who he was .. are loving him.. and he’s managed to turn around a few haters as well.
It’s hard to say what Jive will decide to do with David .. but I do think David knows what he wants to do with David. I feel .. that he will at some point.. live to fulfill his soul infused pop stylings .. he’s just unsure how to get there right now.
I’d like to see him .. progress.. not jump ship.. and have to reinvent himself. I think this may be his last hoorah on the good ship lollipop. I think you’ll see a different David in the sophomore album.
And the Christmas CD .. well that thing is gonna sell itself … no questions asked ..
Fact: Demi Levato is not an established star. She is a newcomer, like David.
Fact: She has sold fewer records than David. There was no huge fanbase waiting to fill arenas to see her.
Fact: An opening act is a subordinate act. Its the headliner who gets the prestige, not the opener.
Fact: Jive agreed to place David in a subordinate position vis a vis a singer even less well-known than himself.
Fact: David’s album sales are flat. His singles sales are flat. If he’s winning over new fans, they’re not buying anything of his.
Given the above facts, it’s unclear why this deal was ever struck in the first place. It was insulting to David from day one.
Time to get out my journal. Thanks highervibe!
If anyone is interested .. ticketmaster has over 270 reviews of the shows so far ..

I’m going over there to read for awhile .. I just found this one ..
by BDPLANO
The show was great! David Archeletto was outstanding, and KMS was great too
Someone who definately doesn’t know David .. ROFL at Archeletto .. hahahahahaha .. but thought he was OUTSTANDING.. maybe that’s a fan that will buy a ticket to his solo tour the next time he’s in town
praepos.. none of your facts supported this is damaging David… the rest of the stuff.. is common knowledge at this point.. I was curious as to how this was ruining his prestige.
Off to read more Acheletto comments .. hahahahaha
Hey Dawn! The only reason why I was thinking of David possibly “jumping ship” is because it happens. Reinventing himself is inevitable.
Since reading a ton of Michael Jackson bios – now that I’ve been going through the commemorative issues (I think the Rolling Stones is the best so far) – it’s so evident that David has time on his side. When MJ was David’s age, he and his brothers (with his father’s initiative) “jumped ship” from Motown to CBS records because they were growing tired of the “bubblegum soul” that Berry Gordy insisted the group continue to do, even though they had grown up considerably.
Another artist I think of, in comparison to David, is Stevie Wonder, and when he was David’s age, he tried to put out an album that flopped and he spent the next few years battling for creative control of his music before he resorted to producing independent albums while negotiating his contract with Motown. All before he became the Stevie Wonder of the 70s that we all know him to be.
So, who knows how things will play out. I’m glad to refer to these two different examples because they prove that David doesn’t have to accomplish everything all at once (no matter how impatient many of us – myself included – tend to be since we want him to conquer the world right this minute). I’m learning to just follow David in these early years and catch glimpses of where he promises to be in the future.
Praepos, when have the latest sales figures been released? I’d be curious to see what they’re like at the end of the summer.
HG, I for one am pleased the tour is not playing to packed venues. Many fans held back–and clearly Levato didn’t have the clout to compensate. Lesson learned by tptb, hopefully.
Dawn, when did I ever say the facts were damaging to his career? I said the tour was a blow to his prestige.
Yes, there would be negative career implications that might derive from such a blow–but they wouldn’t be inevitable. It remains to be seen how this plays out.
By the same token, it’s easy to see that the McFly tour was hugely prestigious for David–since it was totally
“cool”–the polar opposite of this Disney connection–which stereotypes David in a negative way.
Praepos, let’s hope they learned the right lesson: the Disney route is not going to work.
Whoever said that perhaps with MJ’s passing there might be room for message music, I hope this is true. This is a definite void, and I wish David’s label was insightful enough to fill it. I hope they can take advantage.
If you guys don’t mind .. I’ll post some of the reviews here ..
I didn’t think that I would enjoy seeing David Archuleta; but, as I promised my nephew; I took him to go see him. My nephew, Yousef, has down syndrome and has done nothing but talk about this event!! Ohhhhhhhh my Gosh!! That guy puts on a show!! We both had a great time… I am sooo glad that I went…I wished all of our relatives could have seen the happiness emitting from Yousef. It was a sight to see…David Archuleta ROCKS!!!!!!!!!
David Archiletta was amazing…better than on American Idol.
David Archuleta was pretty good, though I’m not really a fan of his music. He sings amazingly and he did his best to get the crowd involved, running from one side to the other, touching the fans’ hands.
Dawn, I’d love it if you found any fan reviews that have vowed to buy David’s CD.
But, I’m not nearly as concerned about this as much as before. Ever since reading how overjoyed David was when he received his certified Gold, I’m fine if the sales have plateaued. Sure, it would be great if the album went platinum, but I’ve yet to hear of any album that can do that on the strength of one single.
I didn’t understand then and I still don’t understand now why Jive didn’t move to single #3 or single #4 when neither ALNOY or TMH didn’t reach the same level of popularity as Crush. There are some really good songs off of his album.
I don’t really understand the strategy. To me, tours don’t sell albums, they sell the artist, and that’s what David is doing very well. Radio play and music videos sell an album.
In an industry where someone like Beyonce has not 1, not 2, but FIVE songs on rotation from her I Am Sasha Fierce album, and where the Black Eyed Peas have around 3 songs currently playing simultaneously on radio, I’m a little frustrated that “Zero Gravity,” “Desperate,” “Barriers,” and “Waiting for Yesterday” didn’t get their due.
That’s more a sore point for me than this Disney tour, if I’m being honest.
I didn’t know ANY David Archuleta songs, but after his set I had TONS of new favorites.
“I didn’t know ANY David Archuleta songs, but after his set I had TONS of new favorites.”
See what I mean?
I was not a David fan until I heard him live. Even my daughter commented on how he sounds much better in concert. Demi you rocked too!
Dawn: I’m with you there #87 & #88, loud and clear. So true, the majority of people that attended his solo concerts were already die hard fans that already had bought his cd. So does that mean it was a flop?…..
Also, I know I’ll NEVER get WDVV either. Besides what djafan listed in #73, how else would we get to see so many different outfits and different sizes, patterns, and colors of plaid? Hey, I see he traded in his plaid shirt for a plaid scarf. LOL
OMG, I could never get tired of anything he sings! I listen to his CD every day at least once, sometimes twice, and I just don’t get tired of it. I amazes me, I could never say this about any other artist. What it does do though, is leave me wanting more. It’s like when the cd is over, I want more, so I usually push play again or repeat some of my favorite songs. But I definiately want MORE! More new songs, different songs would be great, yeah, but it still wouldn’t matter. I don’t care if he had 10 cds out right now, after listening to them, I would still want more. That’s the addiction. It will never be enough. Like a drug, you have to keep upping the dose to get the same high. Well, with David, no matter how many different songs he sings, or how many videos there is of him, how many new concerts, it will never be enough. It’s all just a pacifier leading to the next high. Man I sound crazy, don’t I?
One thing that makes me more angry than this whole Demi/David tour, which I think we are making a much bigger deal out of than it actually is,….is that David’s songs are not being played on the radio! That to me is much more important than ticket sales. Millions more people listen to the radio than go to concerts. It just blows my mind. IMO every one of the songs on his CD could be a hit on the radio. Why did they stop with Crush and ALTNOY? As great as these songs are, IMO, they are not the best on the album. My first listen to the CD, Barriers and YEDL were instant favorites, and also Desperate. I just don’t understand why there is no further promotion. I think Jive is setting on a gold mine with the rest of the album.
And there is so many different radio stations his music could be played on to reach every demographic. Pop, top 40, R&B, adult contemporary, hit music stations; and XM radio has so many different kinds of stations like, Love Songs (definately play all his ballads there), The Blend, soft rock/alternative. Gosh, the possibilities!
My 16 year old daughter shares my appreciation for David even though she’s not obsessed like me. But she gets David, she appreciates his talent, and she is definitely not into the teeny bopper music, never has been, thank goodness. But everytime she hears his songs on the CD, she’s like, “Why aren’t these songs on the radio, they are like 100 times better than anything else you hear on there?” Yea, my thoughts exactly.
About his concert sets getting old, again I don’t get tired or anything he does, but it would be nice for a change up and a rotation of songs every time. He definitely has to keep singing his radio hits because that’s all anyone knows, but he could change up all the rest. He has songs he has never even sung live yet…..like….DESPERATE…. and am I the only one who absolutely loves and crazy about “Don’t Let Go”? Why has that song just slipped through the cracks? Boggles the mind. Again, what is Jive thinking. And he definitely needs to keep YEDL in rotation. That song is amazing live and the crowd loves it. And what happened to Running? He sang it one time at his first solo concert and never again. And “Works for Me” really works for me too. Coma La Flor, the list goes on.
These are just questions that inquiring minds like mine have been dying to find an answer to. Yeah, there is definately more he could do to just blow us away. I think I would literally die if he threw any of those never-before-sung songs into his mix. He just doesn’t know the power he has yet does he? Or maybe he does and is just waiting for the right time to catch us off guard.
Wow, I can’t wait!!!
Just bringing a few comments over from the Fresno non-review mentioned by jackryan #5:
“David Archuleta was amazing. I had never seen him live, but OMG he has the most beautiful voice. It just rang through that venue and took my breath away. I was really really surprised. His songs were amazing, and my favorite was Zero Gravity. I absolutely loved that song. When I got back home I bought his cd and Zero Gravity off itunes. I still can’t get over David Archuleta OMG………maybe that was one reason Demi seemed so blah to me because after his set……well, you just had to be there. To be honest I could have just listened to him all night.”
“I was so surprised because I was expecting Demi to be my favorite but David Archuleta was just beyond belief. He was just amazing!!!!! I loved him and will go and see him on solo tour now. He was so sweet, smiling, cute, and his voice just took my breath away… I am going to buy David Archuleta’s music because I loved every single song he sang.”
“Loved the concert. I thought they were both good but very different. David may be a teenager but he is not a Disney star. Yeah, he is so cute and even kinda hot in some ways but he is a really good singer. He is more low keyed and artistic without such a light show and big band with backup singers. He just goes out there and sang for us and I loved him and am gonna buy his CD now.”
“All I can is David was WOW amazing- what voice. will buy his cds from now and want to see a solo tour of his.”
“All I have to say was that David Archuleta blew me away!! I definately wasn’t expecting that from him, he’s incredible! The others were good too, but they didn’t really give me the same “Wow” factor.”
“All I can say is, the one that I came out remembering the most was David Archuleta. I was totally impressed. Came home a had to buy his CD and Fan Pack with Zero Gravity. That song rocks and his vocals are amazing!”
peruu- have a great time!!!!!!
My only disappointment right now is I just got back from running a quick errand and My Hands was playing …
David did NOT tell me to SING IT ..
this posted by Daniel tonight. haha indeed.
K so I saw the quiz -which archuleta boy are u, daniel or david- and I got david… ok? Hahahaha

JOYMUS #52 – nope, didn’t fall into the cracks – we have all of TCA59’s vids in our FRESNO page
Am not a video ninja for nothing – bahahahahahahahahahahahaha
And we have a lot more in every Tour Page just to make sure that we have a ready reference of his performance collection.
FREOFAN & V – I know Tina Arena and I have a couple of her albums.
HG – this article may help explain why Jive didn’t go full force with the CD promotion. Esp the 3rd paragraph from the end of the article is um… very telling.

Re album sales cos I think someone asked before: WWA estimates David’s album to have sold 765K but this has not been updated since over a month ago I think.
765K is pretty nice and solid in this recession, don’t you think?
Still, JR, the article only reinforced Jive’s reputation for frugality. But since they’ve been focusing more on singles than on albums, isn’t this more reason to be pushing more singles off David’s album for radio? I’m with Katsue on this one, especially since pushing to get a single played on radio isn’t supposed to be costly, right?
David sang WYSYLM acapella at the VIP ..
I think 765K with as little promo as it got is freaking OUTSTANDING .. and I’m willing to bet it pushes past 800K by next month.
Just received this from a friend in my email..she sent it wednesday, but I don’t check that one often ..

cool .. turn around .. free advertising ..
Correction to my post #107: I said “Am I the only one who absolutely loves and crazy about “Don’t Let Go”?
I meant: “Let Me Go”. Wow those songs are complete opposite titles. Yeah, we are all crazy about DLG. But what about LMG? Again, I think this is a missed song hit. It has a more rhythmic beat and feel, catchy, upbeat. That’s what made ZG so popular. I love everything about it and Desperate. We don’t always have to have sappy love songs, even though I love em.
katsue6583 -- I love, love Let Me Go. It was my workout music before ZG came along — so I have them both now whenever I jog
HG -- what I inferred from the article is that since Jive has recouped its investment on the strength of Crush alone, there is no urgency for them to put out more on David’s 1st album (e.g. promote the other tracks as singles). Being frugal & smart, they move on to the next album. Remember how some fans are wondering why DA was signed up for a 2nd album immediately when at that point the 1st one had not reached gold status? There you go.
Meanwhile, has this been posted? David singing Independence Day (by McBride) by phone? I read his message but didn’t realize he actually sang the recommended song
I don’t know how else to love this guy more!
David is very excited about his mom & sibs attending the concert tonight. And Daniel, the quiz that said he “is David”..uh no, no way, no how. Sorry Daniel. Not trying to be mean, just honest.
Today’s thread was VERY exhausting. There’s truths on both sides. Tickets selling for $10.00-15.00 are troubling, but at least the ticket brokers who are having to release great seats BACK to Ticketmaster, are also not making big bucks off David. Out of curiosity, the day before the Glendale show, I scored a 1st row center ticket. Almost made plane reservations! Go check out tickets for Seattle and you’ll see what I mean.
I know it’s very early where David is but I’m still going to say.. Good night now, and for David,
Dear Lord,
Please take care of David. Watch over him, protect him from all harm. Cloak him with your love and give him the strength to endure all that is thrown in his path. Give David the courage and guidance to say no to those who ask for more than he can reasonably give. Surround David with loving and supportive people who love him unconditionally as we, his devoted Archangels do. Separate David from those who have agendas other than for his well being. Give him rest when he’s weary. Give him the stamina to sustain his hectic pace. Give him assurance when he feels doubt. Give him joy when he feels sad. Cloak him always in your protective arms during this time on his journey. Keep David and and his voice healthy & strong as he fulfills his Destiny which was written in his Book of Life before he was born. And please Lord, give us, David’s forever fans, the wisdom to know when and how to do right by David. Open our eyes and help us in the way we support David so that it’s always in his best interests. May his positive and good Karma continue to attract those with positive and good Karma! May he continue to encounter goodwill and happiness! May he continue to be healthy and strong during this time in the summer tour with Demi. Keep David and his companions safe as they journey across this land of ours. Though we may be unworthy, we humbly pray. Amen
David, hope you have a good night’s sleep & sweet dreams on the road. Keep with you all our love, prayers and warm thoughts! We will always love you madly! If you are ever in need of help, tweet us an SOS and your Archangels will be there in a flash!
Contigo siempre con amor!
Katsue – Jeff didn’t like Don’t Let Go and was against it going on the album. He thought it had too much of a Maroon 5 vibe. I think it would have added some diversity to the album – a different sound. And the lyrics are interesting too. But, I imagine if David really liked this song he would have sung it by now, no?
From my post #38 above ..
If it was up to ME .. I’d change up the set .. I’d get rid of ALTNOY and CRUSH .. replace it with Let Me Go ..and the Medley .. better yet .. a full version of ONE would be great ..
LOL .. GMTA
So .. Jive passed on ZG .. fail
Jeff passed on LMG .. fail
Dear David .. don’t listen to them .. LMG .. is up there for me too.. as well as WFY .. and WFM.
LittleM: Do you also mean “Let Me Go”? Yeah, I did the same thing, those two titles are confusing. Maybe that’s why it didn’t get on the album. LOL Yeah to me it definately shows David’s diversity and proves once again, that he can sing anything. I just think those upbeat, rhthmic songs really fit him just as much as the more soulful stuff and the ballads. And they for sure make good radio songs, and good concert songs. I can’t imagine David not liking it, but who knows.
Silverfox, those front row seats were most likely Demi’s VIP seats — think she’d have had the first 7 rows reserved. I’m going to check a day or two before the KC show and see if I can score something better than row 11.
JR, I got the point. I just think keeping his name out there with radio play wouldn’t cost extra is all.
I know there are some folks thinking David is a one-hit wonder, so why not get some other good singles out there?
As Dawn points out, 765,000 is pretty dang amazing with the little promotion he got. Which means, to me, that it could have reached platinum very easily with just a tad more promotion that came from, say, a strong second and third single.
I’m loving Let Me Go too!
Isn’t this another song that David penned?
Ok Dawn, I’m really not good with acronyms and still new to this, so what does GMTA stand for? It really makes my brain work too hard.
Yeah David, please do not listen to your father or Jive. I can’t even imagine how good all those other songs that he wrote might have been that they canned. And he says he’s not good at writing, Baaah. Yeah, he also thinks he looks weird. What does that tell you? Hey, David, maybe you shouldn’t listen to yourself either.
HG, totally agree. Please do not let David be considered a “one-hit” wonder. That is definitely damaging to his credibility. That is the only song non-fans know. So many people that went to the Demi concert said before this the only song they had ever heard was Crush, that’s why they were so blown away with the rest of his set. They liked ALL of his songs. To me, more radio air time = more people hearing and liking his music, and more anticipation for the 2nd album which again = more sales. But that’s just my civilian, non-professional, humble opinion. But I know for me, that’s the main way I’m going to find new artists that I like.
GMTA .. Great Minds Think Alike
I love LMG ..
I wouldn’t be mad at him if he rerecorded Don’t Tell Me either.. that would be freaking awesome.. and a great segway into soul infused pop.
Collectively .. TDC should manage David’s career .. I will offer our services when I see him next.
PRAEPOS – re fans protesting this tour: let us paint a scenario for the sake of discussion:
Assuming we protest and not go to the Demi Tour:
1. So David does his set w/ a slew of fans in attendance (cos realistically not all fans are disillusioned with this gig)
2. David doesn’t get the props he deserves, gets very little screams, gets a lukewarm reception cos the people in attendance are not his peeps & barely know his songs
3. Will Jive take the lukewarm reception and dismal attendance for his set as fans protesting David’s opening for Demi?
4. Will Disney, media & Demi fans think the same way?
Believe me, this was discussed lengthily before and I was one of those totally displeased with him opening for Demi. I didn’t like it then, I still don’t like it now. But that doesn’t mean that I would stop appreciating what David puts out from this tour nor would I be displeased with fans supporting him on this particular gig.
We have our own ways of dealing with how David’s career is shaping up. There are many ways of protesting. But not being there for him when he needs us is not one of them.
“Collectively .. TDC should manage David’s career .. I will offer our services when I see him next.”
Please do!
Dawn65,
I’ve been reading the reviews from that link you provided. What can I say other than that they haven’t made feel any better. Simply because most of it is not about the music. It’s a kiddy thing.
Favourite moment: when she signed my phone, when she forgot the lyrics, when she invited a boy on stage, when I almost touched David’s hand – and so it goes.
A few reviews were nice. Like this one, my favourite so far:
“David Archeleta should headline on his own, very talented and hard working on stage. Personality plus won the audience quickly. His show was worth the admission on its own. His music rocked the place.”
Here is someone who knows talent when they hear it!
Praepos,
I agree with most of what you said. Jive’s ways are beyond me -simply exasperating! David is responsible and will do whatever he’s agreed to when he signed the contract, but I don’t see the same joy. Hope I’m wrong, though.
HG – like you am also wondering why the other songs are not being pushed. Let me share you an example how things are done here wrt Kelly Clarkson’s album. So she releases a single and of course it goes to the top. Then about a month later, she releases a 2nd single, etc….
But the DJs here would play the other trax of her album one or 2 weeks apart – even those not put out as singles. By the end of 2 months, I have heard almost a quarter of her album!
So I dunno how much it would take Jive to make this happen with David or by what force of circumstance these things are done. It is a bummer cos there are a lot of radio-friendly trax in David’s album. Wasted opportunities.
It’s a kiddy thing.
Demi’s fanbase is primarily comprised of 6 – 14 year olds.
I don’t know.. I guess I am just over it.
It’s exhausting worrying about Jive and Disney.
I just want to enjoy it.
We can wring our hands every day for the next year .. it won’t change ..
I’m gonna ride it out .. hope for the best .. and trust.. I’m just gonna trust.
Yeah, JR, wasted opportunities. I hear you, Dawn, about wringing our hands over Jive’s ways. Still, I’m not going to lie: it kills me that the nation is suffering through “Boom Boom Pow” when they could have had “Zero Gravity.” Seriously!
HG #132 “it kills me that the nation is suffering through “Boom Boom Pow” when they could have had “Zero Gravity.” Seriously!”
Priceless! I totally agree with this one. There is no accounting for the taste of the buying public.
hello guys
Just Vee from Down under but visiting the US. I am visiting my sister here in Connecticut. About this journalling activities, it is a good way to start with my US visit.
About getting tired of listening to David’s songs, NO WAY. Although probably with similar song list in each concert, David tried to make each song as fresh as possible.
Regarding Demi/David concerts, I am a bit selfish here. I have to say, THANK GOD because this is my only chance to see David sing live.
Everyone, finally I got my ticket to LA Nokia Concert, July 17. Not VIP but still I will be able to hear David sing LIVE. THANK YOU MIKE!!!!! I will be in LA from the 15th of July. I do hope to meet some of you. I will leave my email address( gmail) and my LA contact details.
My dear TDC friends, got Aboriginal keychains for you guys from Sydney. Just to remember that little momma from Sydney. I know, you have given me some of your phone numbers but for some reasons I can’t access my Australian email address. I would appreciate if you could respond with your mailing address. YOU ARE MY E FAMILY.
See you guys in LA. I am so excited…. I don’t know what would be my reaction…..
Hello everyone. Delurking to rave about last night’s concert (Fresno). I’ve been having computer issues for about the last two months so hopefully I can get this posted without ado. I should also tell you that my vocabulary is limited, but here goes.
First, the VIP session. Our coordinator, Kristin, was sooo nice and funny and just as infatuated with David as the rest of us. When she told us he was walking up two flights of stairs, we started clapping and cheering and clapping and cheering and clapping and cheering and it seemed he was never going to get there. Then, WOW! He comes in and I don’t think anyone could take their eyes off of him. He asked us if we heard him singing while coming up the stairs. We said NO and someone asked him what song he was singing. He said, “a song” and we just giggled. He told us about eating Thai food and that he felt he was about to explode because he was so full. He was still feeling dehydrated but that water would only make him feel more full. At the keyboard, he said he should learn how to play the songs in lower keys because that would be easier to sing when feeling full. But to save his voice, he said he should speak in a higher voice, which he demonstrated with his own voice speaking in a higher pitch, but then said, “who goes around speaking in a higher voice?” We were all giggles. He sang Crazy and then Heaven. I’m such a fan of Crazy and he added some twists and turns and inflections here and there that I hadn’t heard before. I was already in heaven before he even sang Heaven. VIP was sooo worth every penny spent on it.
The concert. I was at the American Idols concert when it came to Fresno last year and, have to say, that the Save Mart Center was closer to capacity this time around. There were only a few empty seats and those may have been filled with people standing somewhere else. David was shown a lot of love, no lukewarm reception here. I did see a lot of kids wearing Demi’s VIP badges. There were only two kids in David’s VIP session. And Dawn #109, David did tell us to SING IT during MY HANDS, lol. The entire set was amazing. People were waving their arms during MY HANDS, ZERO GRAVITY really got people out of their seats, and APOLOGIZE was heartfelt. I could hardly sleep last night.
Thanks for the recap, Mollie!
Vee, I’m happy for you. I surely wouldn’t be feeling so grumpy if i could do the same! LOL! Have a blast!
Mollie, wish i can do VIP but just attending the actual concert is already heaven for me.
Thanks Valbraz, I will try not to act like a 13 year old girl. But you never know. Only my sister knows me here in US so probably I can be a bit on the crazy side.
Will see !!!!!!
VEE!! You got me worried there when we haven’t heard from you for a while. You’re in the States now and will see him perform – great and so happy for you!
Have a blast my dear and I look forward to your sharing
Naree, a Pinoy Archie is there and will be attending 4 concerts, starting with San Jose w/ VIP tix! Isn’t that great also. Oh I hope you get to meet her
So VERMEER – am sure you will have no problem spotting her because of her Asian features. Plus, look for someone lugging a big camera backpack LOL
San Jose update from Monica:
“He wore grey jeans, purplish shirt, black skinny tie, white shoes with black straps-cute!”
“There is no accounting for the taste of the buying public.”
Marlie, one word: PROMOTION. Funny what making a song so ubiquitous will do to a buying public.
Mollie, thanks for sharing your experience!
Vee, enjoy your time here!
JR, that description sounds promising!
On that note, g’nite all!
JR, yes I am now here, missed Manila but extended my stay here so I can see at least one concert. YEAH!!!!!!
I can only attend the LA concert, 17th July and will fly back to Sydney on the 18th July, 6 am.
I can’t get VIP. Lucky Naree. Probably next time for me.
Do you know where Naree is staying? I am here in Connecticut until 14th, then will fly to LA on the 15th.
thanks HG. I am so excited !!!!!! to the max
I just saw a few of the first comments so I may be out of date but, David out and about, in any way, is a plus
David is gaining new fans, that is the reason of touring? Many Mom and Dad folks have been turned on by David’s music. This tour has picked up bunches of new fans. Most the moms and dads.
VEE – have a blast! I will have my turn next year, hopefully in time for his 2nd solo tour
PRD9601 – yes, totally agree with you.
Looking mighty fine tonght -

YOU CAN thx to coolgirl21
CRUSH thx to mareroxx
DLG thx to omygoshashley
OMG OMG OMG!!!
It was one glorious David Archuleta tonight at San Jose! He owned the stage, he owned the crowd, he was unstoppable!
No question about it, the tour is the right thing for him to do, or he is doing it right. OMG, I am so excited and proud of him.
OMG OMG OMG!!!
Pardon my fly-by. I’ve barely skimmed most of the thread, and won’t be able to give it a proper read tonite… but HAD to pop in at least to register this:
katsue6583, you can count me in as a “bonkers for Let Me Go!“person. Yesss! (:
ok, *poof!*
I just got in after attending the VIP and concert in San Jose. I can only say that once again David proves that he is not only a terrific singer, but he is charisma defined. He is so genuinely kind to everyone. He shows genuine interest in each and every person who engages him. In my entire life, I have not met many people who can command the attention and touch the hearts of so many people by just chatting or flashing that beautiful smile. Sitting a few feet from him as he performed his acoustic set made the price of the VIP a non issue. When David initiates a mini conversation during your brief photo session, well, that is simply priceless. Having only had a few minutes to peruse the earlier posts of the day regarding the current tour, all I can say is that David is making the best of the situation. He is the consumate professional on and off the stage. This tour is a mere stepping stone for David, as ridiculous as it is for David opening for Lovato, it is what it is.
I believe that David has built up his reputation or image with Demi’s fans already. My reasoning? KSM asked the audience something like whether they were ready for David, or Demi. I sure felt that the level of applause or screaming for David was as loud as that for Demi!
And people were on their feet from song #1, Touch My Hand (except for the middle first seven rows, which were Demi’s VIPs. But at song #4, My Hands, they could not resist any more, and started to stand). The crowd stretched their arms up high, swaying to the music most of the time. Even with slower songs like You Can, the audience was intense and attentive. You could see it in their body movement and feel it in the air. The band did a great job and all songs sounded energetic and fitting to Demi’s crowd.
And Zero Gravity was HUGE with the crowd. They loved it so much! Literally everyone was jumping, bouncing. I looked around. It was so overwhelming. It was totally breath taking.
And David was gorgeous tonight. (dawn, his hair looked great.) When he first appeared, I almost screamed: No plaid tonight??? He looked so attractive with a not too long shirt and a skinny tie. Oh, his voice, no matter how loud the crowd was, his voice soared through, clear like a bell. His movement was so fluid, with such grace. His connection with the songs and the audience was so precise, OMG. David has become a world class performer.
I had watched quite a few videos on this Demi Tour, thanks to JR and TDCers. But, seeing him live is a TOTALLY different ball game. He was amazing beyond words! If he has yet to come to your town, by all means go, and get a closer seat. You have to experience the same joy that I did tonight. (liser, you can tell that I had a great time, right?)
My kids were David’s fans when I got tonight’s tickets a few weeks back. Well, they sort of switched over to Demi in the last week or so. (winking at HG) But they were on their feet, clapping and smiling the whole time during David’s set. When Demi came out, they were so excited, standing, clapping. But by the third or fourth song, they took their seat. One of them later fell asleep. Well, I am not saying Demi was boring. It’s just that quite often, her voice was sort of buried by the band. Maybe David just drained all my kids’ energy out during his set. Still, credits to him.
Now of course Demi’s fans were with her the whole night. But I felt that the overall energy shown by the audience during David’s set seemed higher, and more evenly distributed, until Demi was singing her last two songs.
I agree that during this tour, David is practicing and perfecting his performance skill. The tour is still on going but the results are already showing. I saw him at Reno and I saw him at Salt Lake City. He was great. I had a terrific time then. But tonight, he was amazing.
His expression, his eyes, his pointing, his gliding, or flying, from one side of the stage to another, his singing, his voice, his changing up the songs, his every move, was so natural and so smooth. If the songs in his album sound the same, his live performance brings unique character to each song. His sheer confidence, oh my, am I drunk over something tonight? Unlike after the last two concerts, this time I felt no withdrawal. I only felt joy and pride.
Yes, next album. An edgier one. (BTW, I also love LMG and Desperate.) Just let David choose. David knows. David is ready to rule. I have no doubt.
I too love for David to record “Don’t Tell Me” again! I wonder if he would have any bluesy songs in his next album.
Oh wow, so apologies in advance ‘cause this is going to be long. San Jose was wonderful. The VIP was worth every penny, though they packed a lot of people (maybe 75-80?) into a ridiculously small room. I just had to laugh as I took my place on the very hard floor in front of his piano… what was I doing there? It was not exactly comfy, but on the other hand, to be so close was one of those unexpected gifts. Anyway, Kristin did a good job of getting the crowd pumped up, and had everyone screaming for David as he walked down the hallway into the room. He entered with a huge, crinkle eyed smile, sat down at the piano and just looked around. He did his trademark laugh and proceeded to entertain us with some random conversation. He decided to twitter about the fact that members of his family were going to be in the audience, wondering how long it would take before the twitter was received (a few seconds), talked about wanting to see Harry Potter (but needing to see movies 4 and 5 first), and a few other topics that I can’t recall. It was just a joy to be sitting there watching him. The first thing that struck me is that he is such a kid still. He is sooo young… he is just going to keep growing as an artist and as a human being… I think we’re still just seeing the tip of the iceberg. Anyway, then he sang Heaven and Crazy… I have to say, there is absolutely nothing to compare to sitting in a small room with David Archuleta singing at a piano. His voice resonates and fills the room (he so didn’t need the mic they had set up for him… I wish he hadn’t used it) and just fills your heart. He threw in a few subtle growls and beautiful runs… I’ll never forget that experience… Then they did the q&a and the first person asked him to sing something acapella. She suggested Make You Feel My Love by Adele, then Gravity by Sara Bareilles, then My Girl, then I’ll Be, then I’ll Be There… all politely turned down by David. He didn’t think he could do the Adele song justice (silly boy) and he just wasn’t in the mood for any of the others. He finally acquiesced to When You Say You Love Me… and man, I never really loved that song, but hearing him sing it like that, acapella, was breathtaking. The next question was about who he wanted to collaborate with and he came up with Natasha Bedingfield, and the third question was whether or not he was coming up with great new songs while riding in the bus. He told us that basically, he either sleeps or goes through gifts…didn’t really say anything about songwriting. He sang a few random bits as the conversation progressed and a phrase would recall a song. He was just completely adorable. Then it was time for pictures and we formed a line and they just pushed us through… as expected, I was more or less incoherent but I don’t think it matters. He just can’t possibly be registering all of the people he meets each day. It was enough for me just to have the opportunity to shake his hand and have my picture taken. I did see him meet Naree, and I could see his face as she told him that she’d traveled from Manila to see him… definitely that look of wonder, and sweet gratitude.
The show was wonderful… that boy loves to sing for the crowd, and, his family was in the audience too… I saw his brother and at least two of his sisters, his aunts and uncle. I heard Lupe was there, but I didn’t see her. I did think that the band was a little too loud in places but David was totally on and feeling the love. The whole place was on its feet for ZG. My favorite performance of the night was Apologize, but all of the songs felt fresh to me, which surprised me since they are all so familiar at this point. It sounded like there were a lot of new harmonies and runs, and of course, seeing the growth in his performance skills… he is just dancing all over that stage! Still a minimum of banter, but it did seem like that was the plan… the band really didn’t give him any time between songs. I do like the new bass and drum players… the band sounds more cohesive to me and they seem like fun guys too.
The venue looked to be about 80% full, and at one point, when KSM asked if the crowd was excited to see David and then Demi, it seemed to me, from where I was sitting, that the roar was pretty even for each. Lots of tweens, teens and parents. I stayed for one song of Demi’s set, and my opinion is that she’s a very good musician, a good performer, but she just doesn’t have the voice. There’s no real depth in her vocals. However, she’s got all of the production values in her favor…much fancier stage, backup singers, bigger band, all that stuff… I’m guessing she puts on a pretty good show, especially if you’re already a fan. It’s just that for me anyway, all that production doesn’t mask the fact that as a vocalist, she doesn’t hold a candle to David. On the other hand, she’s got stage presence, and she’s more comfortable chatting up the crowd. KSM actually wasn’t bad…and their set went quickly since it was just four songs.
All in all, it was a great night. I know there’s been a lot of discussion about whether or not this tour is a good or bad thing for David here. My opinion is that in the grand scheme of things, it’s good. He loves what he’s doing. I’m just not worried. I totally trust that he has a lot of say in what is happening now and I think he’s where he wants to be. He’s gaining exposure, and more importantly, experience. He’s striking while the iron is hot and I think it’s wise… this is such a fickle business and he’s living in the moment… I don’t think he takes anything for granted, but everything he does now is a building block for the future.
Sorry this is so long… I just needed to share with people who I know feel the same way I do about this gifted boy! If you’ve gotten through it all, thanks for reading!
Oh, and Silverfox, freofan and JR… glad to see that there are a few other Tina Arena fans here! It would be pretty cool if he did let us know what he thinks of her. Obviously, I’ll let you know if I hear anything… I did enclose an SASE!
Oh, and one more thing. A couple of us chatted briefly with Mike and he mentioned that if David could sell 20,000 copies of ZG in one week, the song would land on the Soundscan 200 (I think that’s what he said), and that would force the label to release the song to radio. My guess is that a fan effort is forthcoming!
peruu, bj & v -your excitement is palpable even through the screen. Thanks for sharing your experiences immediately
YAY for naree!
Looks like lots of pax are excited from San Jose gig that videos just mushroomed instantly!

Enjoy TDC! Happy Sunday in your neck of the woods.
This is a MY HANDS vid w/ the intro banter by tca59 but he forgot to press stop (gobsmacked much?) after the number so he captured the banter into You Can. According to tca, audience went nuts at the ending of My Hands -- woo-hoo!
OMYGAH! Naree is already daid and slayed. She got her ArchHug and got to hold his hand – woo-hoo!!! 3 more VIP & concerts to go for her. Lucky gal
Thanks to those who appreciated the journal entry! I’m so grateful for this incredible community where such musings can be shared! Glad to hear a few of you getting those journals out and dusting them off!
YJfanofdavid – #18 – Ha – E.M.Forster would be chuckling at that one!
It’s been interesting lately, reading about other people’s approaches to journaling. For instance:
“Writing is the only thing that, when I do it, I don’t feel I should be doing something else.
- Gloria Steinem
Ha! For me, there is one other thing that doesn’t make me feel I should be doing something else… watching David’s latest tour vids! And reading all of the various opinions about the Demi and demigod pairing (loved *that* review!) I only hope the time and energy of it all doesn’t take a toll on his next CD. Where’s the writing time in his schedule?
katsue – #72 and #107 – check! check! check! I couldn’t agree more. And your daughter is one sharp cookie too!
Delurkers with show recaps, FTW!!
JR – I don’t think I’ve ever thanked you properly for your efforts – thanks SO much for the akashic video records you’re compiling!!! Every time I hear all that squealing at the end of every song, I think the tour just can NOT be a bad thing.
v – “If you’ve gotten through it all, thanks for reading!” No… thank YOU! Really enjoyed all your impressions… except now I’m *more* concerned about where he’s going to eek out writing time. But I agree, I think he’s right where he wants to be, and I’m good with that!
Your welcome hghervibe.
But it should not stop others from posting tour videos in our regular thread. That also helps me in completing the tour page
What I have forgotten to do is ask those with reviews to re-post their recaps & reviews in the related tour page. That would help better organize our shared thoughts. Going back to the numerous threads and bazillion of posts would be quite a task LOL.
How about it guys? May I ask those with reviews re-post their previously entered recaps/stories? Don’t get me wrong, it is alright to post in the current thread where all of us gravitate. But don;t forget to re-post your recap in the related tour page, ok?
Thanks and time fior me to cook dinner. CYL
v (vee), peruu, and bj,
Just wanted to take a minute to say thank you for “journaling” (and sharing!) your impressions of the San Jose VIP and show.
So thanks, guys! (I never used to talk that way haha)
David’s bashers have always been proponents of certain myths about him: that his fans were primarily tweens, that he was too uncool to find a niche in the industry, that his proper place was therefore with Disney.
This tour has encouraged these shallow stereotypes and makes it harder for David to get past them. The McFly tour was a step in the right direction. The Levato tour was a step backwards.
This is why I think it’s helpful to discuss this on the various fan sites and not pretend all is well when all is not. Jive needs to receive the message loud and clear that David’s fans are divided over this–which is one reason the tour is failing commercially.
Praepos –
TDC has ALREADY spent time dicussing this issue in previous threads prior to and at the start of the tour with Demi. I know I have accepted it for what it is and am proceeding to continue to enjoy David’s performances – live and on video, as well as all the concert reviews! There will always be haters out there wanting to continually stir things up and I am just going to ignore them, since I can’t do anything about them.
OMG peruu, how I wish I could have been there with you last night!!! He always seems especially on when his family is around.
I keep telling myself that I am okay with not meeting David, but all you VIPs are making me jellous, oh!
Knotliser – I WAIT impatiently for the day when the time is right for me to be able to do a VIP!!!
Knotliser – love your avi BTW
Just want to say thank you perru, v and bj for your wonderful recaps! It confirms that even though all may not be well with some of us, it appears all is well with David!
bj, peruu and v thanks SO much for sharing. JR thanks for your efforts posting these amazing videos so quickly. These songs never seen to get old, and David continues to change them up. Love, love WFM from last night. Also interesting the article posted at 111 by JR concerning the financial/buisness challanges faced by Jive and other record labels. While we want the heck promoted out of David, which involves money spent, part of me certainly understands their need to look at the bottom line.
Well said awestruck at 165
I have been enjoying the discussion and the article about journaling.
Hibervibe
I wish that I had made time to journal, especially when my son was born… now I regret it. Soooo, I plan to start a “Remeber When” journal to try to document the little things that my grandsons do. Wish me luck!
v and peruu .. Thanks SO much for your recaps .. my heart was pounding, inhaling every sweet detail of your experiences.
I’m sitting here .. fingers poised over the keyboard .. trying to figure out what to say next.. and I got NOTHING.
I’m just .. WOW.
I love TDC .. our folks have a way putting things.
I’ll take that cue as .. sometimes you just don’t say anything.. you go back .. and have a reread .. cause that’s all you can really do.
Thank you again .. GREAT GREAT recaps ..
So happy for both of you
Good morning everyone! Thanks for the recaps, v, bj, and peruu. Also, Highervibe, does blogging and tweeting count in terms of journaling? What do you think? I find whenever I have deep thoughts, I share them online.
Praepos, I’m wondering why you think David’s fans haven’t done enough about the Disney tour. I personally remember us going back and forth on many different occasions about this one issue. It’s not like all the Archies unanimously decided to support this Demi Lovato tour in droves. We were very divided on this issue.
What more do you think could have been done? Also, it’s not like people here don’t get your point. But, we’re experiencing Demi Lovato fatigue because it has been discussed ad nausea. The bottom line is: it’s a done deal, and if David is moving along, doing fine, and fans who’re attending the tour have great stories to share, that’s something positive.
Did his management not think too deeply about the set-up? Obviously they didn’t. But, from David’s own admission, he’s moving on, and from the way Jordin is being marketed right now – and she’s touring with the JoBros – I see Jive moving away from Disney to give David a mature sound with his next album.
The only thing that will damage David’s credibility is if the music on his next album is mediocre. So, let’s hope he gets some more creative control and has awesome producers and songwriters to work with.
It’s not going to last forever, this detour into things Disney. So, let’s hope for the best now and afterwards.
Hi Vee, Glad you got my extra tickets! I am happy to know that someone from so far away will be seeing David with us in LA. I think you will be very happy with the location! I know your post was a while back but it is early here on the left coast…
Will I ever get tired of hearing David’s set? Not in a million years… all I can say about that. Just the small nuances he interjects in many of the numbers makes it fresh every time for me.
knotliser
As of today 7/12/09, there are VIP upgrades for Providence. They cost 125.00. Please come? I think there will be about 6 TDC there…..

Abrra
HG, I know it’s a done deal. But it’s still a bad deal and as I said at the start I’m just curious how fans can be so effusive over it at this point. Maybe all the sappiness is getting to me.
praepos
Seems to me that what we are being effusive over are David’s performances, his interactions with fans at the VIP’s…
awestruck: You took the words from my mouth. The other is a dead horse we buried some time back.
HG – You said “Highervibe, does blogging and tweeting count in terms of journaling? What do you think? I find whenever I have deep thoughts, I share them online.”
The one issue is that you can’t go back and re-read, unless you put all of your comments in one place. Interesting that I, too, ’speak’ my thoughts on line…
(((rae)))
awestruck 177- BINGO!
JR – thanks to you for all your work on putting the video pages up, you are a goddess!
peruu, v, bj – I too am at a loss. Just so grateful for your wonderful recaps. peruu, I love your description of his growth on stage and v & bj, your experience and observations at the VIP. After each concert I anxiously anticipate the next story, the next video, and you all never disappoint!
“Maybe all the sappiness is getting to me.”
Well, until another scandal erupts, or when David makes an appearance on TV or somewhere else besides this tour, we might as well enjoy the reprieve that fans spazzing over David gives us.
Hmmm, I think it’s time for another photo shoot release!
Awestruck, that’s a good point about re-reading our comments. I for one have had the hardest time finding all my David Dreams recaps, which were mostly recorded on Noting David and have to sort through too many comments before finding what I wrote. Just to give one example.
If anyone has gotten jaded watching the tour videos I urge you to reconsider and watch San Jose. Who knows if it’s family there or feeling better or just a great crowd, but David was bringin’ it big time last night. So many new riffs and runs and change ups and moves and happy smiles. He was working it. So glad I watched these.
We get to reap the benefits of a performance of excellence whenever David has family around. (I can’t seem to stop repeating My Hands from last night).
There are no words to explain how much I dig Davids’ VOICE. I’m one of those that will never tire of listening to anything he chooses to sing.
picture of david (perhaps?) snapped after the vip. you can see some of his siblings behind him.
http://davidarchuletavn.files.wordpress.com/2009/07/close-up-david.jpg
JR absoultely grateful for you and your dedication to the video pages. It continually amazes me how David continues to subtley re-invent his songs.
emmiegirl/River – There is NO denying that I get a rush feeding off of the energy David displays during his performances – yes, especially when family is in the audience. I never tire of it. And to read everyone’s concert/VIP reviews makes me happy!
HG – sometimes, especially when it is a long one, I first write in Word… then copy and paste to the comments box (I used to do this when you couln’t edit in the comments box). A little more time consuming, but would provide a place for all your comments in one file.
Well, off to do gardening, chores and general Sunday things… till later
I just recovered from San Jose VIP and concert
.
My heart skipped a few beats when he sang WYSYLM a capella at VIP. Word can’t describe how beautiful it was. It took me a few minutes to recover after he finished the acoustic session because I was breathless in the chair. Heaven and Crazy were great as usual. The nicest thing about VIP was the crowd was so quite when he sang, and you could hear a pin drop. You can really enjoy his VOICE. I also agree with v that he doesn’t need the mic at all. I was also impressed that he said that he was not “in the mood” for those requested songs! Go for VIP if you are just thinking about it.
He was on fire at the concert. The best among those I have attended. Saw Lupe in the audience too, and she looked stunning with a red flower in her hair.
Hello and good morning in your part of the world…
I must congratulate you David admirers for your patience…I think that mine has almost left me. In this world of wonderful song writers, someone has to have written a #1 song for David by now. Composers know that their song would be with the Voice…
Until he has a worldwide hit that includes a video, this is how it is going to be. Each of us thoroughly enjoys his stage presence and his VIP time, but this summer has not shown him “half” the respect in any way, that should be given to him. He will be the last to complain of course, but I wonder if he reads his journal about Scotland, his time in England with McFLy or Asia? The video of him singing “My Girl” shows us his ultimate happiness…Maybe the memories get him through the fool hearted ways of some fans who push him beyond his limits. He has been asked to kneel down to sign some girl’s sneaker, or possibly be hugged when she has a cold. He has been asked to sing something he wants to stay away from. Spoiled and frivolous, the fans need boundaries and to learn respect…Maybe he will soon be able to lean away from the giddiness of tweens and teens…Maybe he will be hoping for another tour abroad soon, once he has a new song list…
SB
V, Peruu, bj, jr4da,
Thanks for sharing. All the recaps and videos help keep my ODD/HDD at a comfortable level while I wait for August!
Abrra and Knotliser.. I will be at Providence VIP and have two tickets available. One is REALLY good and one is mediocre. If you need a good seat on the side but close to the stage let me know. I had to buy two and will be by myself…
v 155 – “Oh, and one more thing. A couple of us chatted briefly with Mike and he mentioned that if David could sell 20,000 copies of ZG in one week, the song would land on the Soundscan 200 (I think that’s what he said), and that would force the label to release the song to radio. My guess is that a fan effort is forthcoming!”
Is it possible for David’s fansites to collaborate and make a push on a certain week to try to get ZG the necessary numbers?
river & angelofdja – yes, there seemed to be another layer or
something last night! Whatever it was, I hope it sticks around!
I have a question/comment/suggestion–is there a place that the acronymns could be placed so when someone wonders about them they could just go there and see them
just wondering

Get ready for massive screams and squeals of delight when David Archuleta takes the stage at the Indiana State Fair August 10 at 7:00pm.
David Archuleta gained massive fame as the cute-as-a-button balladeer on American Idol. And while he is the opening act for Demi Lovato, it won’t be any surprise to find his star shining a bit brighter than hers.
Concert tickets for Demi Lovato with David Archuleta can be purchased in advance through CircleCityTickets.com, where you can also find tickets for other State Fair concerts like The Oak Ridge Boys, MercyMe, Kelly Clarkson, Jason Mraz, and Journey.
Indiana’s state fair has been rated the best of all state fairs, and with concert line-ups like this it is no wonder.
Between the State Fair, Verizon Wireless Music Center, and the Murat, Indianapolis is destined to be known not only as the Amature Sports Capital, but also as the Concert Capital.
TWBG IMMHO
oops- forgot the most important part, the title:
David Archuleta is Coming to Indianapolis
not trying to make trouble, just reporting. Everyone have a wonderful day. A sad day for me, a close friend’s wake today.
She was only 44 and gone too soon.
Good morning, everyone. Thanks for liking our sharing. Hi to bj, v, and quiteblance, and good seeing you, r! Great to have crossed paths with you! v, thanks for confirming my assessment of the level of enthusiasm for David Vs Demi. I was happy about how equal it seemed, but was afraid of being a little less than objective there.
I just woke up from a very happy sleep. Gosh, do people describe sleep that way? But that was how I felt.
So, VIP. David let us choose the song order. We got Heaven first. I liked that order because I have seen videos of Crazy and I knew that it would be fantastic. Little did I know, that, Crazy was really CRAZEH! And the build up towards the end was beyond fantastic! OMG! The audience was totally mesmerized, hypnotized, all holding their breath till they could break out the applause. No wonder Simon said “It was incredible” at Hollywood week.
I had been imagining my meeting with David, knowing full well that it would be nothing like dawn’s or Angelica’s. But, guess what? I won the raffle to ask David a question! I got to go up close to him and say “Hi, David!” And, he sang my name a couple of times! Then he went, “uh, sorry,” and laughed. I wanted to tell him, “Don’t stop, David! Don’t you know your ’sorry’ is our ‘merry’”? How I contained my excitement, I still don’t know.
Now, what do I say to him at picture time? I kept thinking. So I came up with something lame, but from my heart. “David, thanks for bringing so much joy to people.” He was like, huh? oh thanks. Picture was taken, I said bye and walked. Then I heard him saying, “yeah, see you around.” I wanted to kick myself for walking away so fast.
liser! I wished you were there with me too! If you can make the arrangement, go vip. No point waiting. You can always go again if he has more of those in the future!
#193, David will also be here on 8/10. Strange …

I still don’t know what FTW means… I can think of a reverse phrase but that wouldn’t be very polite!

desertrat? do you think the above is wrong? Hope I did not cause any problems, as I was not focusing on the dates, as much as the content.
I have another window of time before I have to take care of my kids. So here I go again about last night.
We got seated at the tenth row and were waiting for the show to start. I saw a boy with a cap who looked like Daniel getting into the seats behind ours. I told my kids that this could be David’s brother. They went like, Mom, David’s brother would be sitting at the front row. Then some girls went to that boy and asked if he minded taking a picture with them. So it was Daniel all right. I turned my head to look, and who was sitting right behind me? She looked like Lupe, though more petite than I thought! Then I noticed the girls with Daniel were Jessie and Amber. Jessie’s hair was straight so I did not recognize her right away. I was going to say hi to Lupe, but I could tell that she would rather not be bothered. So I did not. Oh I felt so special to sit right in front of David’s beloved family, while he was giving a spectacular performance with the crowd going nuts for him every moment!
mikesd-I may be interested in your Providence ticket. Trying to contact you through the contact page.
rae…That info is wrong. David is not appearing at the Indy state fair with Demi. Instead he has a solo gig at THE RAVE. The tickets you saw are from a broker and are false advertising. SHAME! Still trying to sell tickets using David’s name.
Carry on..luring today, cuz I don’t have anything to say, except that praepos sounds sooooo familiar, but just can’t figure out who else has the same use of words?????
on a side note..I could KICK myself for letting my Manchester VIP ticket go! But I am hoping David will add more solo venues maybe AFTER the Demi tour as I would rather MY money go to
HIM directly…
Peace out!
During the VIP, I was really behaving. Did not scream or act excitedly because my kids were around. They still give me a hard time regarding David from time to time.
And then I saw David leaving, waving his hand and saying good bye. My guards were down, so in a high pitch voice, though not too loud, I went, “Bye David!” My younger one was right in front of me. She turned her head and said, “Mom, that was scary.”
But when we got home, she had my hubby hung up all David’s posters and T shirts on her wall. This morning, as soon as she opened her eyes, she asked me about the show in Sacramento. She wanted to go see David again! No, not for Demi for sure. She was the one who fell asleep in the middle of her set.
Hope I have not bored you too much this morning!
meant LURKING
Bye-bye!
Knotliser… my seats are Section 120 Row B Seats 12&13 which should be close to his keyboard side and just above the floor so the view should be pretty unobstructed…

my seats in Providence are sec 121 just up the side of the stage. 120 is decent

mikesd-definitely interested. You should be getting my contact info at some point.
SB – I too have moments when my impatience surfaces, but I drive myself crazy when I let it get to me and then I can’t enjoy what he is giving us on that particular day. That is part of the beauty of being a DJA fan. We are the lucky recipients of someone who has much to give. And we are willing to let him take us there.
And I could be wrong, but I think there is a certain element to the “teen giddiness” that 18 yr old David appreciates.
Abrra
Apparently it’s AON for me.
AFAIC I would go A3 to hear the Voice.
AAMOF that’s in effect AATF.
Help, I’m going off the deep end and I’ve barely made it through A!
HA! Excited much, knotliser? Once you get the fever, it never goes away til you see HIM .
Abrra
I don’t think the Indy info is correct. David is in Milwaukee that day, at least I hope so, as I have a room book, VIP tickets, and train tickets purchased!
Any TDC-ers going to Milwaukee besides me and Joner? If you are, and want to stay overnight, the Ambassador Hotel and Inn (they are two separate places owned by same people) are right down the street from the venue and reasonably priced.
Recent tweet from @kbestor (Kurt Bestor); he worked w/david on Falling & wrote Prayer of the Children.
“Producing David Archuleta on a piece of music I arranged. He’s blowing me away!”
MikeSD… good to see you again yesterday!
Comment #200… good for a Sunday afternoon {{{chuckle}}}!
(back to lurking….)
“Producing David Archuleta on a piece of music I arranged. He’s blowing me away!”
…and this is why we should have no worries when it comes to David and his career.
..thanks desertrat.
(something for the new album?)
desertrat: And a previous tweet from kbestor:
“Am juggling an arrangement of Ave Maria, a ballroom dance medley, and practicing for my gig on Saturday. I feel like a musical Sybil!”
So, do you suppose he is working with David on his Christmas Album and Ave Maria is the song that has him blown away?
David has a couple of days off, and he’s working. Why am I not surprised?
I’m guessing he’s working on the Christmas album with Bestor. I can just hear in my mind, David’s rendition of Ave Maria. Even though Ave Maria is not traditionally a Christmas song, if it’s the arrangement Bestor is talking about, I can see how he would be blown away! I have no doubt David’s Christmas album will be one of the biggest selling Christmas albums ever…no doubt at all!
I’m sooooo giddy about that tweet! It’s like, when is Christmas going to get here?!
David is already blowing musician’s minds with this?! GAH!!!
Will we be able to take it?
HG: I love it when you gush like the rest of us
That makes me giddy, too.
Puhleeeease, Ave Maria!

Abrra…I was indeed sucking a “lemon”…
I was also rolling the dice, kinda bottoming out…grumpling and I thought that if I did, something good would come from commenting TDCers…
Presto, we have this “Producing David Archuleta on a piece of music I arranged. He’s blowing me away!”
I gambled, I won…someone came forth with something extra good about David…
SB
Ave Maria, has been around as traditional Christmas music for as long as I can remember…
Ave Maria SIGH
I am planning on buying at multiple copies as they will be Christmas presents this year.
Marlie, David is blowing away minds, how I can not keep from gushing! haha!
Ave Maria, O Holy Night, The Christmas Song, so many goodies to choose from…
Is it winter yet?
awestruck – I *do* wish you luck! …and they will be sooooo grateful. This journaling thing—or variations thereof—seems to run in the family. My niece was here over the weekend. (I hardly ever get to see her
We spent some fascinating time together with family members’ journals and “autograph books” dating back to the mid-1800s. Geesh. I can’t even believe we still have any of that sort of thing. So grateful tho’ because it’s sooooo fascinating—not just personally but historically and culturally.
Do you think a Christmas album this early in his career is a good move career-wise? Ok. That’s a given too, isn’t it? So questioning this must be as pointless as questioning the summer tour. I can’t help but wonder whose agenda this is. Most probably not Jive’s. Or have they produced a Christmas album before? Anyway, I’m sure it will be beautiful and I do hope there are a couple light-hearted or romantic songs in it as well. Anything new from David will be most welcome at this point. Even the Disney rumour of David singing ‘Go the distance’ in their next collection has me eager. Just keep singing, young man!
Thanks, admins, for the quotes feature. I had a good laugh re-reading Bee Bee’s comment on freakin’ soulful Motown David!
Kurt Bestor…From what I have been reading about him on Snarky’s, this is someone actually recognizing David for his fantastic vocal abilities and this may be the platform for his future musical recognition…
Opening for Demi has been necessary I guess, keeps him in front of us…while he waits…I have the feeling that this is the big step that will keep him quite busy from now on…
SB
HG – oh yeah, def-o that all counts!! As long as you keep it somewhere so you and others can access it, later down the line. My posts & comments (and random unposted thoughts etc.) are all written in l’il ol’ “Wordpad” on my pc, so I can reference them any time. Not that I have any need to… or want to… so far… but you never know. You might want to write a book some day! I’ve often thought that this notingDavid/TDC fandango would make for one heck of a juicy sit-com!!! Doncha think?! **HA!** Rascal?? …really!
And, as desertrat mentioned {{{{hi DR!}}}} …it’s interesting to be able to look back at these cultural markers (Marvin Gaye/Michael Jackson/etc.) and see “where we were at” at the time.
Valbraz…Oh yes, this is a good move, has to be. Anything that takes him out from under the “opening for Demi Lovato” conversations has to be uplifting for David and everyone else…
SB
valbraz, thanks for pointing out beebee’s quote. I love her rants!
bj, peruu too! (still catching up with posts) Thanks **all** in attendance for your recaps. Almost better than the various vids, they are so heartfelt! And detailed. Lovely!
mikesd {{{waves}}} — explosive laughter at #200 ! !
I think it means “For The Win”.
knotliser – 214 – hahahaha…
b-b-b-b-but PUH-LEASE, start in on the Bs, you are too funny!
(now, to look for that acronym translation page – heh heh)
oooh, DR #218 – music to my ears!
OK, sorry to be spamming, gotta take advantage of the time, when I have it!
Hi everyone
Just got a minute before I head off to my workout. Two things I have to react to:
1. AVE MARIA – am tearing up just imagining it. And yes SB it is a trad Christmas music but don’t worry, it has been said that there are two new songs being written for him for the Christmas album that will have a modern beat.
2. from HG #181 “I for one have had the hardest time finding all my David Dreams recaps, which were mostly recorded on ….
- which is why am requesting those who posted concert recaps/vip stories in the regular threads to please re-post in the related Tour Page which can be found here: http://www.thedavidchronicles.com/category/performances/09-summer-tour/
OK, gotta go and shed some pounds if I want to keep up with The Archuleta lol
CYL guys!
kurt bestor lates tweet:
Back from recording David A’s vocals on two songs for his new CD. Still can’t believe he’s only 18 – such vocal maturity!
David saw sunrise and flew out San Jose back to Utah early this morning!
Hey all,
Still in a bit of an archu-stupor… I have been wishing today that I had no responsibilities and unlimited cash so that I could follow him around to all of his VIPs and concerts, just to keep feeding my addiction to his voice. Oh well, real life is satisfying enough, just not as thrilling!
Thanks for the responses to my write up from last night… I know how much I love hearing about everyone else’s, so I’m glad you’ve enjoyed it. One more thing I remembered from the evening is that in the same conversation with Mike about ZG, someone asked him what David’s preference was, small or large venues. He said that David enjoyed the small, but “this,” gesturing to the arena, “is a lot of fun too.”
As far as a fan effort to get ZG to 20000 copies in one week, I guess there’s some discussion of it on other sites, but I haven’t heard of any focused campaign… at least not so far.
I can’t wait for the Christmas Album… I listen to his rendition of Oh Holy Night all year round… I just can’t imagine that it won’t do well… most people, whether they are fans or not, concede that he has amazing vocals. I just hope there are at least a couple of songs that are just his, along with the classics.
Ok, back to lurking…it’s been fun!
I am =convinced that if there is a hell, it will consist of having to take the Bar Exam into perpetuity. Oh, and how are you all?
Sorry I can’t read all the comments, but I just got wind of that tweet about David’s Christmas album. Yippee! I’m salivating (at least in my mind) about this. Mmm!
And I’m not concerned about whose agenda may be behind this – one of those people who have an agenda is the fans! Count me in as one of those those people who have been screaming and pleading (and biting and scratching lol) wanting David to do a Christmas album since ages ago. Christmas album, purlease!
New Post!
on my blog that is
http://ronaldsf.wordpress.com/
Kurt Bestor’s tweet said “David’s new CD” not David’s Christmas CD?? hmmmmmmm? Did David actually fly to Utah to do the recordings, or did he go to LA? Doesn’t matter, I was just wondering. Anyway..wherever David is, it sounds like he had a very productive day. He saw a beautiful sunrise..what a great way to start a new day..
Good night all, and for David…
Dear Lord,
Please take care of David.
I posted a little info about Ave Maria, and a youtube video in Short Takes http://www.thedavidchronicles.com/2009/07/ave-maria/
Hey! Still catching up above, but I have to break in for a sec.
highervibe Really enjoyed your article. Love your little verse – thanks for sharing!
I kept journals throughout high school and it’s fun to go back and read through them – especially since my daughters are now teenagers. Does help a bit while trying to decode their behavior sometimes.
dawn Loved your post #69 with all its drama – now please, tell us how you really feel!
PS I’m also a big fan of Don’t Tell Me.
Don’t knowWell maybe I do know why Jeff had such an adverse reaction when someone asked if David would be recording that song.I love the soul in Don’t Tell Me and think it would be perfect right about now!
Valbraz – I hear you on the Christmas album – but I think you and I may be alone on this one!! I am concerned about it too, for a few reasons:
*It appears the new songs are written by Utah friend Richard. Does he have experience with major artists or writing hits? Just asking b/c any new Christmas song should be good enough to get D some holiday airplay.
*Even though hard core fans will buy it in a second, casual fans will not buy without major promotion. Will Jive put their promotional $$ behind this album? Will we see D singing his Xmas songs on the Today show, at major televised tree lightings, in televised Xmas concerts? Or on (gasp) Radio Disney? Will it be prominetly featured at the major retailers and in their ads? Without promotion, it will not sell … just hope all this is in the works.
Now more importantly, what should the cover look like?
ronaldsf #242
So you’re behind all this! Biting and scratching! You’re too funny!
Since fans are allowed an agenda too, can I have my Latin infused, rhythmic, fun-packed album with a couple of ballads in Spanish pretty please?;)
Thanks
Ooh Valbraz I’m with you. Put one aside for me too!
ronald #243 Thanks for the link. That was beautiful. I left you a comment.
Okay, I’m surprised to realize that Let Me Go is NOT on the CD I have here. So where did I get it? Was it from the pre-order on itunes? And anyone know if David did write that?
LittleM # 248
Can I add another concern to the list?
What will a Christmas album do to David’s perceived image of a squeaky-clean, uncool Mormon boy, too prudish for pop music other than reinforce it? We love David for who he is but his detractors are many and they seem to find anything even remotely connected to organised religion off-putting.
I wouldn’t mind it later down the road, but now when he’s trying to establish a pop artist image, it may be damaging.
But yes, we’re alone! LOL!
My guess David knows what “works for him”. The young man seems to be quite stubborn. If he wants to do a Christmas album and an edgier pop album, who can say its not possible? We are talking about the most talented and hard working young man in the business! Everytime we doubt the directions he takes, he proves the doubt was unwarranted. I just can’t help but to “trust the Archulator”. (A wise one once told us to!)
Valbraz – LOL! Yes we are alone, talking to ourselves here haha!
That is a very good point you make. Personally, I’m not too worried about the hardcore “haters,” nothing will change their opinion IMO. But the approach taken with the album matters so much…this is where I wish outside producers were at least somewhat involved. I like traditional Xmas songs too, but David is young, and I think the songs should be a mix of traditional Xmas and some high-quality Xmas/seasonal pop (a la “This Christmas,” “All I Want for Christmas is You.”) This would help avoid it coming off as a Christian album rather than a Christmas album. An overly traditional Xmas album at this point in his career could do very well in very religious areas but reinforce the “uncool Mormon boy” image you mentioned among the general public. I too think it’s too early for a Christmas album – he can’t count on it selling itself yet without massive promotion.
And not gonna lie…I hate the thought of Jeff’s name being on the album, especially given the theme.
LittleM,
Yes. Your last paragraph.
Angelofdja,
Yes, he does. Thing is, we don’t! And I suffer, lol!
I trust him. Just don’t think he has that much control over his career yet. And I’m willing to be proved wrong on this one!
I’ll call it a day now and check back tomorrow.
Oh, my, where is happy when we need her?
(dragging happy’s soapbox from the corner) Please, please, please…..can we just enjoy the darned Christmas album? Who hasn’t made a Christmas album? It hasn’t hurt anyone. It won’t hurt David.
(dragging happy’s soapbox back to her storage area behind the curtain)
AMEN marlie!
Too much negativity today. gah!
Abrra
Borrowing marlie’s soapbox…
so what has he done that meets approval? Anything?
yeah, I was just wondering myself about happy! Although I haven’t been around for a while, thought I may have missed something?!
Happy is on vacation
About Ave Maria… As much as I would love to hear that on David’s Christmas album, I just sounds too good to be true.
From what I gather, Kurt Bestor has his fingers in a lot of pies, so I’m reluctant to assume that Ave Maria was necessarily for David.
Also, I when I asked Jeff about David recording gospel (after the TriBeCa show) he said something like, “Not pure (?) gospel” and not any time soon. I can’t remember the exact details, but from the way he answered, it seemed that it would make too risky a statement to record gospel at this time. **one can still wish**
So, unfortunately, I think TPTB would feel that Ave Maria may be too “Christian” for a main stream Christmas album – crazy as that sounds!
**still holding out hope
**
Thanks Marlie!
rocketdog on #251 – Let Me Go is an iTunes Bonus Track of the album’s deluxe version and was mentioned previously that he co-wrote it. But so far, it is not listed with ASCAP as songs written by David:
1 . A LITTLE TOO NOT OVER YOU (Title Code: 313395912)
2 . DON’T LET GO (Title Code: 343226477)
3 . FALLING (Title Code: 362787719)
4 . NOBODY KNOWS (Title Code: 442181579)
5 . SOMEBODY OUT THERE (Title Code: 496312693)
6 . ZERO GRAVITY (Title Code: 560286993)
Hope this helps.
Well, even good old Bing Crosby recorded Ave Maria on his Christmas album.

I just want to know where to go (in this site) to see videos of David’s summer tour ‘09 performances beginning Del Mar or Hartford. I tried clicking the “Performances” in the home page but I don’t know where to go.
By the way, THANK YOU VERY MUCH for posting the link and THANK YOU VERY MUCH to ALL who took the videos of all of David’s performances. For someone like me who has not seen/heard David sing live and might not be able to, even for a hundred years, the videos are all we have to come close of seeing and hearing David sing live. Once again, THANK YOU, THANK YOU VERY MUCH!
Geez, sorry, didn’t know we couldn’t debate things here? I’m not trying to be “negative,” just wanting to discuss the production and marketing of the Christmas album. Sheesh. Is this a puppies and rainbows only zone?
hkzarla: At the top of the page, on the black navigation bar, just HOVER over the word Performances. A menu will appear under it and you can then CLICK on those links.
Just in case, the whole Summer tour is here:
http://www.thedavidchronicles.com/category/performances/09-summer-tour/
Hi i stoping today just to add my two cents about today discussion.
1. I think David doing a great job with the sales of his album, without too much publicity. (gold status for his Cd and platinium for his single)is not the case for allthe singers
2. I think the current tour was most responsability of his manegement than from Jive.
3. I always supported the disney tour, just because Disney is the only one to do some promotion of david’s work a of David like a person.
4.David has a very confortable position on this tour, he receive his pay, don’t expend too much, don’t have to deal with the stress to be the headliner and YES he’s gaining new fans, i’m sure many new fans youngs and adults fans.
5. Be an opener who perform one hour, with a set of 11 songs before the show of the headliner is a very , very good position too, he capture the first excitemen of the crowd, when Demi made his debut most of people are tired already (if you take in cosideration they are many childrens).
6. some people are tired of his actual record, but is basically the people who go every day to the fansites to see the videos.
7. About the Christmas album i really, really hope will be an enjoyable family friend album, i love The Ave Maria but is too much serious and extremely classic for the album at this time of his career (maybe for a more mature David)
8. I didn’t knew too much about Mr Bestor work , i’m ok with him, but now i really don’tknow what is the direction they take for this album..and the Richard participation and Jeff co-production (don’t liked)idk:(
9 and for the marketing i really hope the have already an strategy to do the promotion.
LittleM: Not puppies and rainbows, but geez, the kid can’t do a darned thing right these days. His solo tour was in grungy places, he is making a career mistake touring with Demi, he is making a career mistake making a Christmas album because it is too Mormon/Christian/good boy, he is making a career mistake staying with Jive, he is making a career mistake if he waits too long for his CD or doesn’t pick the right songs/producer/songwriters, he is making a career mistake by not mixing up his set. Shall I go on?
It’s just gotten to be that every conversation turns negative. We don’t do puppies and rainbows here, but I sure wish we could stay out of the dark places for a full day.
marlie, I get your point, but really I just wanted to talk about the Christmas album management/production. I don’t think it’s fair to pile on based on prior conversations. And really, I’d be thrilled if someone had promising info about the Xmas album production and would have loved to see some cool tidbit of info get posted in response to my questions. The Bestor involvement sounds like a good thing.
Also, maybe there’s another way to change the subject, rather than saying, “hey stop talking about the negative stuff, thanks!”
Like for example, I was wondering what you guys thought would be a great Christmas album cover? I would like a close profile shot of D looking down, or looking right at the camera, in a cream or ruby sweater, snowy Utah mountains in the background
How about those mets?
LittleM: Sorry – I was being snarky.
Here is some info on Bestor from his website – perhaps a good producer for the Christmas Album:
“For more than a three decades, Kurt Bestor’s film scores, television themes, compositions and carols have provided an indelible soundtrack of American life. Indeed, much of Bestor’s own life has been dedicated to creating musical
parallels to visual images.
Perhaps best known for his innovative interpretation of seasonal carols found in his popular 5-CD boxed set “The Complete Kurt Bestor Christmas,” the Utah based composer and
performer launched his career writing music for television and movies. His credits include more than 40 film scores and more than 40 themes for national TV programs and commercials. It is Bestor’s music that has introduced NFL Monday Night Football, and National Geographic Explorer; he scored TBS’s Wild! Life Adventures and the IMAX film “The Great American West.” He also was given the Outstanding Film Score Award at the New York Film and Television Festival for his music for PBS’s “A More Perfect Union.” Bestor was awarded an Emmy® for his collaboration with Sam Cardon on the original music for ABC’s coverage of the 1988 Winter Olympics.
I too have some concerns re. the marketing & production of the Christmas album. However, I believe Jive will have final say as to which songs make the album, what the final arrangements should sound like, etc. I really believe Jive would have canned this project by now if they weren’t behind it or didn’t like how it was going.
As for marketing, my guess is that this album will be ready around the same time as Kris Allen’s and Allison Iraheta’s debut albums. It will help David’s sales when he rides that Idol wave.
Evening all. I’d like to thank those you commented on my recap on the previous thread. Of course, as those of you who have attended the vip and/or have hear David live know, words can not fully express the euphoria of such an experience.
Highervibe, thanks for the extra push I needed to get back to journaling. I was extremely shy as a kid and much of my young adult life (still am somewhat I guess)so writing was my way to deal with life. Like Rocketdog, I have kept pretty much everything I have written and from time to time I go back and reread it. ZOMG, how funny some of it is! But it is very interesting to see I how have changed over time.
I’d also like to piggyback on what peruu, v, bj, & quiteblanc (hope I got everyone) recap of San Jose. I got there just in time for David’s set and yes he was on fire. We sat up in the upper portion of the venue and I was able to get a pretty good veiw on how the crowd was responding to David. The floor section were on their feet all while he was on but every time those of us in the stands stood up or even sat on the edge of our chairs, security came and waved us to sit down. But when Demi came on they let people in the stands stand up (after she said she wanted everyone to stand up, even those in the stands). Go figure. Also throughout David’s set people where screaming and clapping, yelling “I love you David”. But I pointed out to my daughter that during the time we stay for Demi’s set, the crowd only screamed and clapped after she finished a song. I was actually surprised.
Finally, I remember David saying more than once, “if something happens, then it was meant to happen and he’s ok with it”. The summer tour is happening. I can’t change it so I am going to enjoy it. I already went Fresno and San Jose. I plan to go to Sacramento show and would really like to go to another vip. My daughter wanted to pay to go to the SJ vip but I told her that would be OTT, silly me.8( She gets off work too late for the Sac vip. Now look at me scrambling. Grrrrrr. You know she’s never been to Vegas, hmmmmm. Well g’nite all.
Lots of folks do Christmas albums. Barbra Streisand sang Ave Maria and she was a Jew.
Some of folks’ concern I think is derived from the fact that David is Mormon and very devout, but I’m not worried about image issues because, compared to a number of other celebrities out there, he really does keep his theological beliefs to himself. It’s mainly his fans who associate him strongly with his beliefs.Dianetics anyone?
I don’t think much of this matters for his overall image – what I’m more concerned about is his 2nd pop album. People will expect Christmas things on Christmas albums and David will surprise no one in that regard. I just think that the music business is a strange creature, and one hit song can break-out one’s career, with little relation to what happens afterward or before.
Didn’t Rascal have a post recently on “Being Balladeer”? I want David to tear my heart out, and a Christmas album will be David’s chance to work with a number of great classic melodies. As we know from AI, he is a master of interpretation, and this is a chance for him to show his artistic chops. I’m grateful he’ll have a chance to do that, as well as cultivate his pop appeal through his 2nd album which will be released at around the same time. A very nice one-two punch imo.
I don’t know what to put here.
So I’ll just Hi all.
Honestly.. I don’t have the energy.
Dear David .. Hope you having fun.
Love you, Dawn
Good morning everyone!
“So, unfortunately, I think TPTB would feel that Ave Maria may be too “Christian” for a main stream Christmas album – crazy as that sounds!”
Um, last time I checked, Beyonce has a cover of Ave Maria on her I Am Sasha Fierce album, which she performed in lingerie-type costuming on the BET Awards show. Trust me when I tell you that this religious, non-Mormon, highly Catholic song has been completely stripped down to a secular song as it possibly can. David singing it might bring the “church” back into it, but that would actually be a good thing.
You all know me to be the proverbial worrywart when it comes to David’s career, but a Christmas album is not one of those ventures I see damaging his reputation at all. Quite the contrary:
1.) It brings back, as Ronaldsf said, the beloved balladeer that we’re all sorely missing since David’s run on AI.
2.) Christmas albums sell very well during the holiday season, and this is one I see selling like hotcakes – with or without Jive’s promotion (and considering they haven’t done much to sell David’s debut and it still went gold, what does that tell you?).
3.) A Christmas album is an opportunity for Azoff to get David some extra promo during the holiday season – if they were behind getting David on the Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade, I hope they get him some awesome TV spots during the season.
4.) I was just excited seeing that Kurt Bestor was behind some of the concert productions for the Mormon Tabernacle Choir – it would be awesome if David got a guest spot performing with this world-famous choir during, say, one of their special PBS concerts.
5.) A Christmas album actually gives David permission to be “squeaky clean” and “religious” without being “in your face” and “on a Mormon mission” about it. He doesn’t have to say, “Jesus saves” with a Xmas album. He just has to sing “O Holy Night” and convert non-believers without even trying. Haters will hate, but neutral listeners will be amazed, while those on the Archuleta Express will already be slain.
I think a Christmas album is a great strategy in putting David’s strongest assets – his ability to dig deep into a song, his love for the inspirational, his renown as a skilled balladeer – on public view without having to interfere with Jive’s agenda for a popish, dance album that seems to be their direction for David. It seems like a happy compromise to me.
