Motion and Emotion
The Serious Art of David Archuleta
There is something about being human that needs, and indeed, demands passion in order to be fully alive. That passion can be found in music, the great visual arts, writing, or performance. It is a vital, magical component of existence that takes us out of ourselves, and returns us to our ordinary lives enriched and more complete than we were before.
It is David’s passion for what he loves that makes him the larger-than-life person he becomes on stage. Without this passion, his superlative voice would still be well worth listening to, but we would not have ODD. It is his passion that imbues his voice with the power to connect his heart to ours, and is, I believe, his true genius.
My first attempt at making a video was a playful experiment. I wanted to see what I could do and have fun in the process. It is a tongue firmly planted in cheek attempt to portray David’s sensual nature as something that must be reckoned with. In Christina Aguilera’s “Ain’t No Other Man,” the lyrics demanded a sensual charisma that David is more than capable of satisfying.
For my second video, I had a difficult time choosing the song. Then David sent out a blog and handed me the song I had been looking for: Matt Dukes’ “Rabbit.” I loved it from the start. On repeated listening, I heard the lines, “all your broken bones in a heap,” and “all your blood and guts are exposed,” as a reference to the sacrifice and courage an artist endures to bring their gift to the world.
My latest effort was to Sade’s “I Couldn’t Love You More.” As always, the song tells me what to do. The slow, soulful, sultry, groove of Sade seemed to demand that the video be done for the most part in slow motion. This, and only this, was my reason for using the effect.
In fact, many of the clips, when played back in real time, were more sensual and powerful that way than in slow motion. David has the gift of scintillating soul in his voice and movements that will, I believe and hope, become even more evident in his performances as he matures. Lyrically, it is an ode to ODD, of how absolutely and completely his fans love him. To those of us blessed to get him, he is pure, unadulterated joy.
~ Angelica

I am your #1 fan for life! Since watching your videos, I have bowed out to director’s block for the time being. Omg! I need a song for inspiration as you do. I am in a dry spell. You are the champion of David fan tributes!
Abrra
Good morning everyone!
Angelica, I woke up all sweaty from a hot dream I was having (David Dream #14 -- yay!) and you get me all hot and bothered all over again with these pics (the hotness!) and your videos!
Thanks a ton!
I’m now determined to record all my David Dreams in one place, now that I’ve got my Soul David blog. Here are the details, if you’re interested:
http://souldavid.wordpress.com/
Good morning…
Angelica, what a refreshing article to come to this morning. I love your article and love your videos and I don’t use the word love all that often for writings and videos. I watch and listen to “I Couldn’t Love You More” daily and I am actually addicted to them all…
Bravo and thank you…Abrra, move over as I think that I am her #1 fan.
SB
Angelica, your chosen pictures for your article and your videos are all my top, most favorite David pictures. So pleased that they are collected together…
SB
Angelica..your way with words, specifically the words you use to describe your feelings about David are just so beautiful. And the way your feelings are manifested in your gorgeous videos..well it’s breathtaking!
When I first heard “Rabbit”, I didn’t get the lyrics, or why David liked the song but like you…
“On repeated listening, I heard the lines, “all your broken bones in a heap,” and “all your blood and guts are exposed,” as a reference to the sacrifice and courage an artist endures to bring their gift to the world.”
And I finally I got it.
Your videos are among my very favorites and I appreciate that they are not sticky sweet & sugar-coated, but made with love for the enjoyment of David’s more mature fans.
Thank you for that!
Now about Sacramento..please, if there is anyone “close” to David who is reading this..and I know you are..please ask David..nicely so as not to hurt his feelings, cuz I love him..to stop wearing the scarves. Besides, I’m afraid he may trip & fall while trying to keep it wrapped around his neck while he’s running & jumping, or a fan may try to grab it and choke him! That’s all. Thanks.
This morning, Perez has on his website some unconfirmed gossip that Demi Lovato cuts herself? I hope this is not true.
Just sharing the latest!
On my way out for the day. Signing off until next time!
GAH, that headline photo! Angelica, you sure know how to pick ‘em!
angelica, your insight comes shining through in your writing and your videos, and both give me immense pleasure! Thanks so much.
Agree with SF on the “Rabbit.”
Hope they are just rumors about Demi.
Angelica, David told you he was working on something. Was it for this tour? If so, would LA be where he might bring it out? Just wondering(and crossing fingers.)
Thank you Abrra, SB, SF, HG, and emmiegirl for enjoying the videos. They were a joy to make. It amazes me to think how much, for the love of David, my life has been blessed and enriched. I have followed him into a world where what was lost has been found. The joy of music and creative expression and so much excitement in learning things that never entered my mind to even try before.
emmiegirl, the song David sang a snippet of at the VIP is a song he said he is working on for the new album. He told me the name of it and who it was by but asked me not to tell anyone because he is still working on it. Not sure if it will make the album. I hope it does cause it was beautiful.
Angelica: You are the video master (bowing). The song choices and video clips you select and put together are perfect. And slow motion -- gah!
Off to watch them all again!
PS -- Did David’s voice sound a little strained in Sacramento? I hope he’s not getting another cold!
PPS -- Well, I just listened to Sacramento My Hands, and he sounded perfect. It was just Barriers that sounded a little strained.
Beautiful, Angelica! I had not seen your “Rabbit” vid--have loved the others--so, thanks for including the links along with your scintillating, soulful post. Can’t wait to get home to savor it. Unfortunately, I must rabbit off to work now.
Angelica, I love all your videos. You have a talent picking the right songs, pics and video clips to make us all drool.
Also, loved seeing your pic with David and your sisters. You are a truly beautiful person inside and out.
Oh how I wish I was in LA waiting to see David at the Nokia!!
Why did I not make plans to see David there? Or in Vegas? Weekend concerts are the easiest for me to attend..fly out Friday, fly back Sunday..so what was I thinking?? Oh yeah..it costs money! haha! How silly of me!
I am so envious of those going to the Nokia tonight. David is going blow them away!! He said he feels more pressure when he performs in LA, but I think because it is the Nokia and since he was disappointed in his AI guest performance there, I believe he will more than make up for it tonight. It will be fireworks at the Nokia! Hope everyone who is lucky enough to be there, have a BLAST!!
At around 3:01-3:04 you can hear “he can sing”! Don’t know who…but it sounds like another one is slayed by the Archulator!
I suppose you would need the link?…
Ok…back to the drawing board…
angelica,
I have gained so much pleasure from not only your beautiful videos, but your writing as well. Thanks for gifting us with your artistry.
love,
betsy
OK.
NOW…at about 3:01-3:04 you can hear “he can sing”…as I had said so very long ago…
Admin, #15,#16,#17 can go away if you would be so kind!
I often lurk even though I don’t post very often. I intend to comment when I read some of your very thought provoking articles (after I sort out my thoughts), or on some of your moving expressions of beliefs about David. When I agree, posting my feelings seems redundant/trite and when I disagree, apprehension and/or even guilt hits me. Both scenarios keep me from readily posting.
I do enjoy most of the articles and postings and especially the faith in David. After a while you can almost predict who will see any of David’s situations with either the half full/half empty syndrome.
Today, I am moved to motion because I am full of emotion about the comments that some David fans have left on the Demi Lovato Ticketmaster page and elsewhere. I am an embarrassed David supporter after reading comments that are derogatory of Demi as a performer and even as a person. Even such mundane comments as “I left the show after David” performed seems uncalled for. On the flip side, Demi’s fans either refrained from commenting about David or left complimentary messages about him.
Does anyone know what happened to the Fanblast site?
Just thought this was cute and wanted to share…David and his cousing at the movie theatre…
http://archuletafanscene.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/07/mv-david-archuleta-3d.jpg
oops…*cousin*
rena..Looks like Fanblast has been cancelled and closed.
Joner..Love that photo! Reminds me of the photo taken of him wearing shades when he was out shopping with Brooke. I just bet he is a lot of fun to hang with.
Betsy..I keep meaning to tell you..your grandbaby is so cute, adorable and so sweet looking! Makes me smile every time I see your avi.
I don’t know how I missed 2 of the 3 tribute videos posted above so thank you for the links. Enjoyed them all.
Angelica, you have a wonderful talent for marrying imagery with sound to communicate something you feel in your heart. Your three videos are a joy to watch.
Angelica, your videos are almost as beautiful as your words, thank you! (And your picture’s lovely too, just caught up now on the last thread!)
rena, #20, that is very upsetting. I tried to watch a couple of Demi’s vids from the tour and, I must confess, couldn’t get through them. She seems like a sweet girl and knows how to thrash her hair and rev up the crowd like a pro but doesn’t even have Miley’s pipes. But I’d never post that on one of her fan sites. Doesn’t seem cricket, somehow.
Vermeer, have you VIP’d yet???? (man, I’m so behind)
SF, I am still processing my VIP and concert experience and don’t really know how well I can relay what’s in my head and heart. But I’ll try since I can’t very well ignore you when you’ve already prompted me to do so LOL!
The Sacramento show was my 7th time seeing David and my first time meeting him. The very first thing, when he walked into the “party room”, all I kept thinking was how beautiful he was. He is truly gorgeous. I was marveling at how God can create someone so beautiful. I was completely mesmerized as if I had never seen anything so beautiful! A true work of art. I got to the venue early and was in the first group of people in line and therefore was able to stake out a spot on the floor right in front of his keyboard when we were finally made it into the room.
David sang Crazy first, then Heaven. I am not good at describing music, but let me just say, the VIP cost was not high enough. David goes into a song as if he goes to another place like others have said. He was incredibly powerful and passionate and I was shocked to see how hard he was pounding on the keyboard at parts of the songs. Being that close, you feel the surge that’s about to come up, the air that he takes in and it’s almost like feeling the roar of the ocean as he lets out a tremendous burst of melody and lyrics. Gengen from Snarkies who said she always cries when hearing him sing, was crying the whole time, wiping her eyes with tissue. I thought of what dawn had said -- try and listen with closed eyes -- but wondered what I would feel if all my focus turned to The Voice, but of course, no way I would deny my eyes the beauty that was in front of me!
Btw SF, funny you should bring the scarf wearing. Someone asked what he was wearing that night and he answered “T-shirt, and… a scarf.” I don’t recall if the person who asked said anything about the scarf, but he went on to explain why he likes wearing scarves. It prevents his sweat from dripping down his shirt AND it moves. He likes it that it moves because it does the job of compensating for his inadequate moving, or something to that effect. Crazy! He moves so beautifully, all the jumping, stomping, running, turning. So there you go, he has his practical reasons for his scarf wearing. Very David.
Let me post this first and maybe some more will follow.
It’s not important but SF prompted me in the Rabid thread, not here, in case people wonder if I’m seeing things that are not there LOL.
marlie .. PS -- Did David’s voice sound a little strained in Sacramento? I hope he’s not getting another cold! .. yes, but if I mention it, it will start a war and I’ll leave it at that
Angelica ~ your videos ~ slay me ~ I don’t know how you always up the ante, but somehow you do.
vermeer ~ just listening ~ without visual distraction ~ takes you to another level. I find it most useful with O Holy Night ~ I can hear the smooth effortless vibrato ~ and it takes my breathe away. This is also true of In This Moment ~ hearing him hit the falsetto ~ effortlessly ~ you truly hear his gift.
mmm .. more thinking to do.
I shall return
vermeer,
You’re not good at describing music? ???
“He was incredibly powerful and passionate and I was shocked to see how hard he was pounding on the keyboard at parts of the songs. Being that close, you feel the surge that’s about to come up, the air that he takes in and it’s almost like feeling the roar of the ocean as he lets out a tremendous burst of melody and lyrics.”
Yet you proceed to take my breath away with this description! Thank you for sharing the experience of hearing David sing Heaven and Crazy at the VIP. It echoed my own feelings exactly. It’s like he takes you with him to that place he goes and whatever the cost, paradise was worth it!
I’m glad you noticed how hard he pounds those keys. I was thinking, I have never seen or heard anyone in my life pound a keyboard or piano as hard as he does sometimes! It’s there in the videos too, like Apologize. He comes down on those keys like you said, like the ocean. Comes down like a crashing wave and you are a small thing, washed away in his wake.
Kristin the host mentioned that David had the choice of signing autographs or doing photos as part of the VIP package and he chose photos because he thought that would be more special for the fans. He is right, it is more special. And David, you are so special!
The Sac VIP had 77 people (2 no shows!) and I think the whole thing was behind schedule (due to the Demi webcast I believe), so it ended up being hardly a meet & greet unfortunately. It was take your photo quick and next! That part is a bit of a blur for me. I shook his hand and introduced myself. I wish I could just stop the clock or go into slow motion to savor every nano second. I very quickly asked if Brett gave him the drawing I did of his mom and flashed a small copy of it as fast as I could. One of the “assistants” has been moving the line along in a rather militant manner. He said yes recognizing it. Not sure if it was before or right after the picture was taken but he said he showed it to his mom. I wanted to say something else and maybe I did or he said something. The next person in line was already coming forward and I didn’t want to hold up the line. Him saying he showed it to him mom is about all I remember with any kind of clarity.
Oh, one of the 3 fan questions included asking him to sing I’ll Be There, and he did! Someone who was in the San Jose VIP said that was one of the songs he declined to sing so we were fortunate in Sac he was in the right mood for it. What can I say, I don’t really have adequate words to describe how it sounded. It went from soft and gentle to again extremely powerful and soulful. It is too bad we can not have videos to remember this by.
I enjoyed every minute of the concert, though some said afterwards that they thought the first couple of songs sounded slightly strained but that things picked up afterwards. He was very tired in Seattle and San Jose was fantastic, is what I heard from the lucky multiple show goers. There were new twists and changed notes in a few of the songs which is always exciting. He was marvelous, plain and simple. He loves the Sacramento crowd.
JR, I met Naree (spelling?). She is delightful. She was sans giant camera backpack as an identifier besides her being Asian (but there are a lot of Asians in California lol) but I figured it out.
Were there no TDCers last night?? After Del Mar I was really sorry that I completely missed meeting some of you that I learned afterwards were there. That’s what I get for not paying attention!
Angelica, thanks! It’s not easy for me to talk about music, really.
dawn, I have listened to How Great Thou Art with my eyes closed before and it is almost too much to bear. But I’d do it again
Hey everyone! Just checking in to see what my cyber-friends are up to.
Thanks for your recap, vermeer! Hadn’t noticed the pounding -- I’ll have to go back and review!
Really loved David/Demi webcast over at Snarkies! David really seemed fascinated by the process. Maybe that’s next for him!
Going up to read angelica’s article…
Angelica “… and you are a small thing, washed away in his wake.” LOL, so true. I was just in awe.
vermeer! I knew you would have an awesome description of your VIP experience! My goodness…everyone says the same thing, that the experience was well worth the money & more. I hope you mentioned that YOU were the one who gave him the beautiful drawings of himself & his mom. He would have wanted to know, I am sure.
As for the scarf..obviously “someone” must have given him that idea last winter BEFORE he slayed us with his moves in Sayreville! WE want to see HIM MOVE..not a scarf!
Why does he think everyone goes cra-zeh when he moves? Doesn’t he KNOW YET that we LOVE his moves? He don’t need no stupid scarf no more!
How Great Thou Art. is probably my favorite of his songs. It’s the first one on my “Sunday playlist”. I usually listen to it while I’m driving, but I’ll pull over next time and close my eyes!
Dawn, do you have a hotel for Hershey yet? Marlie, you’ll be there too? Who else is going to Hershey?
rocket 8)
No hotel for Hershey yet ~ I’m a little unsure of what I’m doing there.
I have AC the next night, so I’m looking at the logistics right now.
I decided it would be easier just to ride on the bus with David for the end of the tour, but he said no.. hahahahahaha
I think his scarves ~ are like security blankets on the go. If we let him keep the scarf, he has to stop tugging on his clothes .. that’s a bargain for me. I know he’s trying to control the shirt tugging and the skipping … 8)
David .. it doesn’t matter .. we love you all the same .. scarf, no scarf, skipping, running, jumping, standing still, tug away .. it’s all gravy dude.
Hey everyone! Just checking back in. Looking at the front page of TDC, I just can’t get over the smexy photo of a sweaty David licking his lips (*fans self*) and that irresistably adorable photo of him and Totoro. It’s like, “How could this possibly be the same guy?!”
Amazing how he morphs into “man” at one point and “little boy” the next.
It just boggles the mind.
Just had to comment!
SF
“WE want to see HIM MOVE..not a scarf! Why does he think everyone goes cra-zeh when he moves? Doesn’t he KNOW YET that we LOVE his moves? He don’t need no stupid scarf no more!”
Your comment reminded me of that famous movie line in The Treasure of Sierra Madre. “Badges! We don’t need no stinkin badges!”
We don’t need no stinkin scarf!
I do like to see his tie move though.
oh yes ~ fan of the swinging tie 8)
Who else loved the Elvis T last night?
Angelica, (I like watching that tie too)
Well, I don’t like the scarves, especially in the summer..and he still tugged at his tee last night although not as much cuz he was too busy trying to keep the scarf around his neck…very distracting…from his moves!
But of course if he insists on wearing the dang scarves, I can live with it! I sure would have loved to see all of Elvis on his tee..must have been a gift from a fan. I Can’t see David buying an Elvis tee. The only time he’s ever mentioned Elvis is when he sang Love Me Tender. I can, however see him buying a tee with MJ’s pic on it.
I was talking to my friend at work today ~ who is like ~ an Elvis diehard fan. She knows my ODD ~ I share moments with her. I shared LMT with her ~ and told her about the shirt last night.
She thought it was very cool ~ it says David is true to what he is, and what he’s about.
Elvis is cool ~
OR .. he reads our site…
The thought HAD crossed my mind ~ unless someone here bought it for him ?????
OH OH OH .. and our very own DJAFAN is at VIP right now ~ waiting on the chosen one 8)
We have any other TDCers there tonight ????
Angelica..I do like to see the ties move..very different than a stinkin’ scarf! (that is what I was tryin’ to say, actually)
I was VERY surprised he wore an Elvis tee and I loved it. And of course, it looked very nice with the fitted jeans.
Dawn..LOTS of TDCers there tonight.
Liz, Mikesd, Vee, Djafan, Lily..and probably lots of lurkers.
And I would not be a bit surprised if Kizzi is there too.
Wonder what the wardrobe is tonight ~ return of plaid ? He’s been like avoiding the plaid. I’m telling you ~ he reads these sites ~ I don’t care what he says ~ I will ask him when I see him ~ he won’t lie ~ so .. be careful ..
Dear David .. It wasn’t me .. I LOVE YOUR PLAID
oh VEE .. that’s right ~~~~ she’s seeing him live for the first time EVER.
Indeed a special night ~ we should have a moment of silence ~ she’ll never be the same ~ adios vee ~ Godspeed ~ come back to us one day 8)
Regarding the scarf, at least he is wearing lightweight scarves for the summer hahaha! Not heavy wool kind.
About Totoro, it may seem really juvenile to hear that he likes (still probably, not just when he was a kid) this anime character and that the stuffed Totoro was in his backpack. But I don’t find it all that odd considering, Totoro is almost a cult figure, cult character(?) among some young people. My nephew has always been a huge fan of Totoro and when he was in college, his girlfriend gave him a very large stuffed Totoro which he loved. And he also had some smaller version as keychain etc. It is kind of like a fad thing even, among some teens, especially if you are into anime, and we all know Jazzy is really into it so he must be familiar with the almost cult like status that Totoro has. He is not just any cartoon character.
I am really impressed with how well he pronounces the name. The Japanese “r” sound is neither “r” nor “l” but somewhere in between and very difficult to say but David has good ears! I heard him say it while chatting to us on the keyboard.
No plaid tonight -- not in LA -- please.
He did wear plaid in Texas (Houston and Dallas), in Louisiana, in Arkansas, in Arizona and in Oklahoma. If Arizona wasn’t in the mix I would think he is appealing to southern “farm people”. The Dallas reviewer did say David looked like a farm boy and that broke my heart.
If he appears with holes in his jeans, a belt or at least a chain on the pocket, some jewelry on his neck, then I won’t mind the plaid shirt.
It’s pretty hot out there ~ perhaps a T and scarf night.
We’ll know shortly 8)
yes, the farmboy ~ hmm ~ has he worn plaid SINCE then ??
Concerning vocal strain -- Yes, David’s voice was a bit strained considering he was flying into different time and temp zones, long hours of recording and probably not enough sleep. Despite these obstacles it did not detract from his performances in any noticable way. I just tend to be more fine-tuned to nuances in his voice as he still has to careful in its usage.
I think the scarves look quite attractive but maybe he should discard it especially for ZG and Crush cause it is distracting when he’s trying to control it. I also like the tees but then he tends to tug on them mush more than the shirts. There seems to be no happy medium fashion-wise for David on this tour -- lol!
Speaking of his facility for accents, the highlight of the Demi webcast for me was when he was trying to pronounce the country his singer/friend Shontelle is from -- Barbados. He got it right on the 2nd try -- YAY!
Word is, the Nokia is sold out..not sure if tickeys for the entire theater were made available..but whatever..it’s s/o. No doubt due in LARGE part to David being the “guest’. There are 100 VIPers, which was also S/O. Hope they had time for a memorable VIP session.
So far, he said he will be singing “I’ll Be” for his solo gigs. There will be a Spanish song on the Christmas album. And he wants to go to Japan..
Tickets..not tickeys
Rena -- I agree. Just before coming on here I was thinking if he thinks the tees are too plain why not wear a fashionable necklace/chain like he did last year? I also love the idea of a pocket chain but I don’t know if its his style.
SF -- did he mention he would sing I’ll Be on his solo tours? Dying here…
Angelica -- *clapping here over your videos* You really have an eye for David. I can only imagine the time you spend going through pix and vids just to get the appropriate shot/footage. Even the music (liked Rabbit especially)- great! Thank you for sharing us your work. Bravo!
VERMEER -- thank you also for sharing us your recap. And girl -- watyoutalkin’ about not knowing how to describe? That paragraph about him pounding the keyboard transported me to the VIP, seriously! Oh, don’t forget to re-post your recap and stories in the Sacramento tour page, ok?
This may be too late and am sure many vids have gone up but in case anyone here is still interested to see David’s fan-chat with Demi, here you go (Lovato’s solo parts trimmed)--
No #41 Dawn -- come to think of it -- he hasn’t worn a scarf since. Maybe he read the review.
He did wear a pocket chain on Idol finale -- I think. I too wonder what happened to all the neck chains he had last year and even Paula’s diamond bracelet. Maybe someday he’ll write a book for his fanatic fans.
DAWN #35 & JOYMUS #52 -- I mentioned the vocal strain in the previous thread and that didn’t start any war. I don’t think mentioning it should be an issue cos it is the truth. It doesn’t mean we are being disloyal to David or being critical. It is what it is. It is simply an occupational hazard and a very regular one at that.
Am just not comfortable that we are being uncomfortable with it here, you know what I mean?
okay, you guys are seriously spooking me. Vermeer, four minutes after I asked if you’d VIP’d, you posted your recap (LOVED every word, btw, you can so describe music!).
And I was just about to ask you kind souls if anyone had a link for the D/D webcast and *presto* The Amazing JR to the rescue … again. Now cut that out!
(SF, a Spanish song on the Christmas album?!? Thank you, Santa!!!)
Now I realized why I have been having these feelings that Nokia will be epic.
1. As you mentioned SF in #13, it is like a return engagement for him. And the little that we know of David, he has set his heart to re-claim Nokia. And yup, I was actually surprised you didn’t plan on being there SF
2. It is VEE’s 1st time to see David live!!! Go, go, go VEE! We will understand if you cannot speak coherently for some time, but please come back to us asap (chuckling again)
JR..I can just KICK myself for not thinking of going to LA for this concert. I COULD have done it..but I just didn’t realize….Nokia..David..pressure..David, GREAT under pressure..AI..David..should be there to support David..who will be GREAT..and yes, RE-CLAIM the Nokia Stage..with the famous “David Territorial Stance”!! I should have known how important this venue would be to David and therefore to me/us!
<<<>>>
JRyan -- #59 I agree. I don’t know but I am feeling so hyper about tonight for many reasons. The show is sold out, a good number of his celebrity friends will be in attendance, and news about the album -- is just sending me into a tizzy. I just feel in my bones that it will be a watershed moment for him personally and us, his fans.
P.S -- I am SO GLAD FOR VEEEEEEE!
It almost feels like Tuesday nighs on AI. Ugh!
David wore a black tee for the VIP..perhaps it was his favorite “Invisible Children” tee about the “incredible” children David cares so much about..you know the one that Dawn gave him.
Gosh..it’s only 6:45 in LA..KSM has even taken the stage yet. We are in for a late night..good thing it’s Friday, cuz I’m up til we get pics/video from the Nokia.
Lots of TDCer’s there..hope they remember us..waiting..breathlessly..
How did Jackie Castro get to be so lucky hanging out in David’s dressing room? Maybe she’ll help him pick out something epic to wear for tonight or at the very least ask him to forsake both the plaids and the scarfs -- wishful thinking?
Rena # 20, Last month I had the pleasure of seeing David perform on this current tour. My friend and I plunked down $65.00 apiece for the sole purpose of seeing David in concert. After enjoying his set, and having completed our mission, we left the arena and went on our merry way. We did not stay to watch Demi Lovato because we are not 12 years old and have no interest in her music. I’m sure she’s a sweet girl and talented in her own way, but once you have seen David Archuleta perform, it is time to go home. It’s like climbing a mountain. Once you get to the peak, it’s all downhill from there.
The last time I looked we were living in the good old US of A, and are allowed to decide what we will or will not see or hear, especially after shelling out our hard earned cash to do so. Making an adult decision to leave after David’s set ended is not only our right, it’s the only decision that makes a lick of sense.
Leaving without seeing Demi perform is by no means demeaning to her. Frankly, I have no opinion of her one way or the other.
That’s why we left.
TOfan #60 -- must be our soul connection, haha!
Actually, I originally uploaded the complete D-D webcast yesterday, forgetting to check how long it was. Thought it was up but when I checked back last night, saw it was rejected cos it was over yt’s 10min limit.
Re WARDROBE -- can he not wear something like Duluth or Columbus?
Like Rocketdawg I’m checking in. I’m vacationing in Vail Co but able to sneak in and catch a few essentials. Miss you all and sure wish I were at the Nokia tonite. I loved meeting all the CA Archies… what great folks. I know Lily will fill me in tomorrow on all the exciting happenings. Waiting for a wardrobe posting here. ODD in OVERDRIVE..
Jackie, Betsy & Michael Castro got to spend time with David cuz they are Jason’s family..so it’s all about WHO you know as well as who you are!
Brooke got mobbed, but was not hurt.
OMG..the photo of the audience shows the whole theater packed!
http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_Uw_M6ZbloQw/SmExlmOgI4I/AAAAAAAAPLE/XGFn4yZjdUQ/s400/aa1.jpg
We all know why and for whom, don’t we?
TA-DAH!!….David is wearing…
“Green and black plaid shirt. Black tie”
I’m so excited for David tonight! I will be up with you SF, waiting for pics and video. He should be going on soon. I read they were getting the curtain ready. I bet he’s nervous. He tweeted he was excited! Man I wish I was there! That place looks huge!
SF #62 -- but you are booked for Manchester, right? If ever there was any venue to go, that would be THE one. I can’t wait for his next solo tour.
RENA on #20 -- According to am email they sent, Fanblast had some problems with their online billing.
Re comments on various sites on Demi from archies -- last time I checked (3 days ago), I didn’t find any derogatory remarks though I did read a lot of “I left after David’s set…” stuff which I didn’t find offensive at all. I took them as the fans way of sending the message to TPTB that this was a wrong pairing, a wrong set-up.
That’s what you get when the opener is superior than the headliner and the latter is not even gracious enough to give the littlest of acknowledgment to her openers — which is just SOP and common courtesy in this business. On a couple of occasions that I accidentally tuned in to hear her promote this tour, she managed to dismiss David on both instances.
I think Demi is laboring under the illusion that since she is headlining this tour that she is the better talent or the bigger draw. She has much to learn.
Hi Everyone! We are finally back home, and I am waaayyyy behind reading articles and comments.
Angelica--your videos are perfection. Thank you. What a lovely way to get back into my ODD. And when you said, “To those of us blessed to get him, he is pure, unadulterated joy,” I remembered that was my first thought when I saw him on stage. He radiates the same joy we feel.
Silverfox--”David Territorial Stance?” LOL! I’m afraid to ask. I’m sure I will figure it out as I read backwards through posts.
JR--Thank you so much for organizing the videos. The heck with unpacking; I’m catching up on shows from the past week! Are there any really, really good *coughs in a DLG sort of way coughs* videos I should not miss?
See, I don’t mind the plaid if he wears a tie. Love him in a tie worn loose at the neck with the shirt untucked.
Update from Angela of FOD

xaris,
WB! Try this for the “territorial stance.” From Seattle.
JR..yes I am going to Manchester.
I like some of the plaids, like the black and white one, the red one w/the patch, the one in Angelica’s avi are a few of my favorites, have noticed alot of plaid on men this year.
Why does it seem like the tweets from LA are coming so slow!!
Guess I am just a little anxious!
Betsy Castro: “archie’s still got it! the screams are unreal! mye hearing will be completely gone if he doesn’t finish the set sooon! Jackie & Rachel @ concert -- Archie’s still got it!”
blisskaden #67 One of the reasons I am reluctant to post is that I must not make my point very well.
I HAVE NO ISSUE WITH ANYONE LEAVING EARLY NOR WITH FREEDOM OF CHOICE. Going on her ticketmaster site or any site where her fans go and criticizing her is my issue. I feel it reflects poorly on David’s fans.
I want to give Demi a chance just as I would like Demi’s fans to give David a chance.
I want Demi treated by David’s fans the way I would hope Demi’s fans would treat David.
Demi is almost 17 and therefore not much younger than David so being 12 is not a prerequisite for enjoying her music. Her song is currently #6 overall and #3 in pop so obviously many do like her stuff.
Rena#50:
Hopefully you’ll see this:
I live in OKLAHOMA and DO NOT appreciate the “farm people” comment. Plaid = “farm people”?? I was at the Tulsa concert and believe me -- I did not see ANY “farmers” there! Please watch your stereotyping of both people and PLACES.
Sheesh….what year is this anyway? Decade?
Oh BTW: I just took the pitchfork off my front porch and herded the pigs and cows around back.
Time to go milk “em!
Lord have mercy, Angelica. Thank you. Okay, pretty sure I have the territorial stance thing figured out--goes off to watch one more time to make sure…
PUH-LEEZE! No cat-fighting tonight!
We are all anxious and so over the top happy for David…and hoping he is just as happy as we are for him…so
Just cool it, please. Thanks.
Xaris..you got it? Any doubt?
These are updates from Fanscene…

Watched the D/D webcast and can’t believe Demi didn’t know David’s background?
I mean, even just for streetproofing purposes, wouldn’t you google the older guy you’re about to trek across the country with? sheesh
(Rocketdog, see you in Hershey with the other crazy Canucks you met in Sayreville, including Refnaf! and SF, see you again in Manchester! *waves*)
This is my first time not being occupied while David is performing afar. So happy to be waiting around for vids and pics. sf and jr, you guys sure got me real excited about this Nokia venue, return to conquer business…
Angelica, I just had a chance to watch Rabbit, with another window opened for its lyrics. Beautiful beyond words, and I saw some of these gorgeous pictures for the first time!

The farm people comment came from the Dallas Morning News review of David’s concert that said that David looked like a farm boy during his performance in Grand Prairie.
How did you ever pick up my comments as stereotyping people and places? If I am stereotyping then how is your comment that you did not see any farmers there not stereotyping? How would you know they weren’t there. Did no one wear plaid? Is that your criteria?
BY THE WAY I LIVE IN TEXAS AND OWN LAND THAT IS BEING FARMED.
Too bad David’s David’s family didn’t make the concert tonight. Apparently they were driving home from CA to Utah earlier today per tweet by Daniel. But his Aunt Lauri is there per Fanscene.
I was just thinking..the Nokia is SO loud with screams for David..I hope we get some good videos with good audio of David’s voice!
OMG!..just 10 more days for David’s first solo concert of this tour series..OMG!
Blakely reported this on Snarkies:
“He told the girl that asked a question that they should go to japan together lol”
David… David… David… Do you realize what you have done? Girl must be daid by now!
It seems as if sometime in the not too distant future David will need his own concert at Nokia. From all accounts I’m THRILLED it went so well. Speaking of Digital technology -- Thank God for Twitter. It’s equally exciting as a cellcast.
# 73 jackryan4da -- I am not sure I understand. Are you saying that anyone who has a fan site is billed?
David’s set is over..this from Fanscene…
Update #29 -- David brought the house down! I think there are a few thousand new DAVID fans!
Update #28 -- I am CRUSHED that it is over David come back!!!
Update #27 -- I’m out of breath!
Update #26 -- David Archulete + Nokia acoustics = nirvana ZG!!
JR #97, I saw that! David is a tease! He really is! Knows just what to say to get the girl’s heart thumping, but he could have killed her on the spot!
Demi Lovato will be on the Tonight show tonight. Maybe she will mention David.
Geez ~ what the heck happened here tonight?
Okay ~ I don’t like Demi Lovato ~ as a performer ~ or a singer ~ I didn’t post anything negative about her in my ticketmaster review. I did leave after David was done, and will continue to do so. I paid for my ticket, not Demi. It’s not a reflection on David if I leave or stay .. Demi should be glad I filled that seat ~ it could have remained empty (as most of her VIP seats are) ~ so she still profited.. good for her.
Nobody was stereotyping here ~ and since when are people so sensitive about farmers? and plaid shirts?
David had a wonderful night ~ he has lots of friends there ~ why his family didn’t stay ~ well who knows ~
Now .. hush .. people are trying to sleep..and you shouldn’t be fighting anyway.
Exactly SF LOL. Of course he said it innocently but he sure doesn’t know its impact.
RENA -- billing for the hosting or maintenance of the site. I could check my email later but right now, I have so many windows open… am scared of opening one more LOL. Just giddy from all the reports coming in from various sites re Nokia woo hoo!
Hi all! Beautiful writing and stunning videos Angelica. You are so gifted. Been here lurking and enjoying but not poasting.
My “take” on the Demi webcast, is this ( just MHO). She knows a whole lot about David, including that he speaks Spanish.
I thought she seemed a bit um, nervous in an overly slghtly
talkative/silly way. I think she was acting like she did not know to just not let on and “be cool”. It has to be a bit hard om her to have such an megawatt, well known crowd pleaser bringing in a sizable portion of the audience with no real publicity. Also my impression is they really have not spent any time together. There was just not that relaxed feeling between them.(just my impressions).
sorry about the typos…. just 2 weeks to my VIP! And then Joymus & I will do a second concert in Orlando. I am ready for a David Archuleta weekend!
So Rae -- are we on for real? Yowza!
A lovely lady I work with always sees the AI tour. I mentioned that I was going to see David and she got all excited and said
David is coming here??? When/where, I will go. I did not know. She did not really know who Demi was, but wll be going to see David if she can get tixs, which I am sure she can.
Just gonna relax now and wait for videos…for as long as I possibly can. Yeah! Jwipe was there and I’m sure he will have videos..
Demi was VERY excited about her concert selling out the Nokia Theater in LA..quite a coup for her thanks to David. I wonder how many of David’s fans will be staying for Demi. I think what Demi’s fans must understand is the profound love we have for David and The Voice just leaves us totally exhausted emotionally after seeing him perform live. There is no room for anyone else. It’s almost an impossibility to have any appreciation for another singer, no matter who it may be, after experiencing David. That’s the simple truth. Demi would have to have the voice of a Whitney Houston or Barbra Streisand for me to even contemplate staying for her set. But the fact of the matter is she is not even close to being in David’s league vocally so why would I want to stay for her set. David has completely spoiled me. I have no desire to see anyone else in concert at this point in time…wow, I really can’t believe it either! I know David would be disappointed if he knew how the majority of his mature fans feel, but I would hope he would take some responsibility for it…cuz it is his fault for being so OHMYHECK awesomely talented!
Yes Joymus. I have had a horrble few weeks with a close friend passing away after a long illness. She lived her life to the fullest, and was one of the kindest people I have ever known. I have been thinking about two songs lately… Gone too sonn ( MJ) and from Wicked, Changed for Good. Just love both,
Looking forward to some David Archleta musical joy.
Per these photos, I wonder what was David doing in LA on 6/15?

rae #105, my take on Demi is the same as yours.
David’s latest tweet……
LA was sooo much fun!!! Touched @realbrookewhite ‘s hand since she was in the very front row haha. 35 minutes ago
“Just got our pic with DA -- he sang CRAZY and HEAVEN -- DA mentioned a spanish song on the xmas album!”
{whimper}
Feliz Navidad?
Just guessing here. Any other Spanish Christmas songs come to mind?
I really don’t think anyone leaving after David’s set is being disrespectful. I’m assuming Demi’s people hooked up with David’s precisely to help with the concert sales, so they’re benefitting whether or not fans stay for the whole show.
Did anyone catch Demi on the Tonight Show? Did she mention David?
Hi all~
Silverfox~ looks like I will finally meet the “cra-zeh car lady” in Manchester!! Looking forward to it
Whether we liked it from the start or not, David seems to have formed a clique of friends or work pals from Disney -- Jeanette, Miranda, Demi, Miley. Heard the iCarly 2 were there at the show.
HG -- Saw Demi. She was at the very end of the show, was not interviewed. All Conan said was she’s appearing at the Orleans arena tomorrow and her new CD will be out____? Couldn’t remember the date he mentioned.
She sounded as we would expect and tossed her hair around a lot. Enough detail for you?
#113 Tonight show did NOT mention David nor did they even mention the summer tour. It was an appearance by Demi plugging her album coming out Tuesday. They only mentioned her performing in Vegas tomorrow. Very disappointing.
Joymus: Re Miley…My daughter watches the disney channel. I cannot even begin to tell you how many, MANY tmes they have repeated that HM episode. It must really bring in the ratings.
More than enough details, thanks, Joymus. Glad I didn’t waste my time watching.
djxox..Yes! Should be a great concert!
joymus..I think it’s great he is “friends” with all of those you mentioned. It’s understandable that they would continue to be friends after working together. David is very likable and friendly, but had they NOT worked together, would they have formed any kind of friendship at all just because they are all in the spotlight? And actually, the ONLY one he has really remained fairly close to seems to be Jeanette. The others, not so much…and Demi remains to be seen yet. I think they all would be wise to form a lasting friendship with David if what we all have predicted about him having a bright lasting career when others have dimmed. Doesn’t hurt to have someone like David as a friend, even though they may not see it that way at this point. David will still be going strong at 30-35-40 YO when these girls will be has beens, even Miley, IMO.
SF, David definitely has the most potential at the brightest star and at longevity. Not sure I’m going to completely dismiss the other Disney kids though.
I never would have thought that little girl from Kids Incorporated would become Fergie of the Black Eyed Peas, nor would I have thought that dorky girl from Nickelodeon’s You Can’t Do That On Television would grow up to become Alanis Morissette. Then, there are those Mickey Mouse Club kids who became Justin Timberlake, Britney Spears, and Christina Aguilera. And lest we think they can only become pop stars, who knew they can become serious critically acclaimed Oscar-nominated actors a la Ryan Gosling?
In short, who knows what will become of these youngin’s in another decade?
raelovingangels -- It is never easy losing a loved one. So sorry to hear about your loss.
HG #113, I think what David said was he was recording a “traditional” Christmas song IN SPANISH.
One thing about Disney, they do take care of their stars & wannabe stars by promoting them.
My sis & I were just saying how frustrating it is to never hear David on the radio..we just don’t get it??
I also would not dismiss Miley. She has an entrenched machinery already. She can go beyond Disney out of desire alone. The girl has the spunk and the hunger for it. And she has her daddy to learn from. Only thing she lacks is song writing ability… so far.
Dunno if you heard it but Seacrest reported that “The Climb” is the most performed song in the Idol audition. That is very telling in terms of high recall and market acceptance from people who think they can and who can actually sing.
Also, Miley has forged a friendship with Taylor Swift — another mega success.
Now THAT is some partnership.
(tapping fingers now) No vids yet?
Thanks JR. Joymus, I have been monitoring the Orlando vene Ticketmaster…There seems to be plenty of tckets and the prices were dropped with the lowest being 13.99 up to 48.50.
Right now the “best” seats per TM are actually 38.50. I reallb feel sure some better seats will be freed up a bit closer to the show. I will keep checking.
Well, if Disney had signed David, we wouldn’t be complaining about promo. I guess we can’t have it all!
SF, a Christmas song sung in Spanish -- ooh! Ave Maria?
JR, I agree MIley ain’t going nowhere. She will transform herself, maybe into a Britney Spears or beyond.
Miranda Cosgrove has the potential to be an Anna Hathaway, and Jeanette, if she grows up into a gorgeous blonde, has a promising future in the movies.
Or, they might fade away. You just never know.
I don’t think our David will fade away.
G’nite all!
Checking out! Hope David has a great time with all those friends in LA. Will enjoy the videos and report from the show tomrorrow.
Rae -- Thanks a lot! Hope your spirits will soon be lifted.
HG -- Ave Maria is usually sung in Latin or English, but mostly Latin. In the past he has sung Silent Night with Lupe echoing in Spanish so it is highly possible that it could be a translation of a traditional carol.
The Disney Machine has been recruiting, cultivating, and grooming kids to be stars for decades. Since I was a young girl, starting with the MM Club. The ones you mentioned HG, are a very small minority who have made it to super-stardom and really not until they left the Disney machine. There are currently only a few who will be lasting as well, Miley and Taylor. The JB’s only for as long as they stay together. I really don’t follow the rest of the kid stars, but because of David, I’ve listened to Radio Disney, watched iCarly & HM, and perused through teen mags..I just don’t see lasting Star Power in many of the Disney kids. That’s how it’s always been since the start of the Disney machine starting with the MM Club. Only a very few make it past their Disney years, out of many. IMO.
If David was a Disney kid, or if Disney is ever lucky enough to sign David..He would be ONE of the FEW lasting Disney Stars for sure…and sometimes I wonder what David would be doing now had he signed with Disney instead of Jive?
This tour is a great opportunity for David to continue to hone his performance skills without being in the limelight of the “headliner”. Somebody posted on one of David’s videos on YouTube that his performances are “too intense’ and he should tone some of his performances down a bit. Fat chance! I say “If you can’t stand the heat, get out of the kitchen.” David has a great sense of “his place”, and would never attempt to steal the thunder from Demi, who is , in fact, the headliner of this tour. Unfortunately, David is so far superior to Demi in every aspect of performance and stage charisma, that he is doing just that.
If one did not know that David is the “guest” and not the host of this tour, the reaction of the crowds would clearly imply that it is his tour. David is completely in a class of his own already. The notion that after seeing him perform, that one should then see someone else is simply out of the question. Frankly, there is a recuperation period needed after seeing David perform that may take days.
Just got home from the concert…..David was amazing!
The VIP is the best way to see, meet and experience David up close and personal. Held hands, hugged, it felt so natural, he is so gracious.
If you haven’t done it…do it!
Met up with Vee, davidfanliz, and Mikesd, also met gemzone….wonderful, wonderful people!
More tomorrow.
Have you guys seen the latest tweet from Benton Paul?

Hi Rocketdog,
Here you go -
dJAFAN -- hope you fill us in later today. Glad you had a good time.
I just have to say David just looks so attractive in those vids. ANYTHING he wears with the merest hint of black just looks so great againt his hair, eyes and complexion. The cameras at Nokia and us -- his fans, are eternally grateful.
Well folks -- see you later. It is minutes to 3:00AM. See you later. I am content that everything went sooo well tonight.
Here’s David’s last tweet from 20 mins ago. He sounds like he’s running on pure adrenaline..he is high on pure happiness!
“Hanging with @realbrookewhite, Jason Castro, @Bentonpaul, and friends! Having a good reuniony time haha”
I am good & tired, and just can’t wait for the rest of the videos..so
Good night to all who’s still awake, and for David who is celebrating with friends. He deserves it..I hope he has a safe & fun time!
Dear Lord,
Please take care of David. Watch over him, protect him from all harm. Cloak him with your love and give him the strength to endure all that is thrown in his path. Give David the courage and guidance to say no to those who ask for more than he can reasonably give. Surround David with loving and supportive people who love him unconditionally as we, his devoted Archangels do. Separate David from those who have agendas other than for his well being. Give him rest when he’s weary. Give him the stamina to sustain his hectic pace. Give him assurance when he feels doubt. Give him joy when he feels sad. Cloak him always in your protective arms during this time on his journey. Keep David and and his voice healthy & strong as he fulfills his Destiny which was written in his Book of Life before he was born. And please Lord, give us, David’s forever fans, the wisdom to know when and how to do right by David. Open our eyes and help us in the way we support David so that it’s always in his best interests. May his positive and good Karma continue to attract those with positive and good Karma! May he continue to encounter goodwill and happiness! May he continue to be healthy and strong during this time in the summer tour with Demi. Keep David and his companions safe as they journey across this land of ours. Though we may be unworthy, we humbly pray. Amen
David, hope you have a good night’s sleep & sweet dreams on the road. Keep with you all our love, prayers and warm thoughts! We will always love you madly! If you are ever in need of help, tweet us an SOS and your Archangels will be there in a flash!
Contigo siempre con amor!
Great show tonight in LA! Hung out with Mike and met Vee and Gemzone and djafan. Great people all. And the voice in the VIP was worth every penny. You need to do this, oh my…
Sorry I’ve been so absent lately. Real life has intervened. I’ll return soon.
I seriously need help, here I am looking for quick flight to Vegas!!!! Family is gone camping -- I’m thinking, they would never know I’ll be back early Sunday!!!! Those videos make me do it.
NOKIA vids have come in. Here are a few while I complete our tour page:

Just missing 4 numbers now — ALTNOY, DLG, ZG & CRUSH. Nokia was insane big time for our boy!
Since a lot of folks went to the LA show, we will enjoy plenty of recaps/stories/VIP experiences here -- yipee!!! But please don’t forget to re-post in the LA Tour Page ok?
ALSO, if anyone could help me trace some of the reviews, it would be good to post them in the relevant tour page as well. In that way, it will be easier for us to access info or have a ready reference point when we need them, right?
LIZ -- welcome back!
jackryan4DA : Hi!
BLISS, you posted “Somebody posted on one of David’s videos on YouTube that his performances are “too intense’ and he should tone some of his performances down a bit….”
Did that person also ask that the headliner to stop gyrating against her bass player since she definitely has more minor fans? I really should stop watching the other half of this tour. The more I watch it, the more I am not liking what I see. And why do I persist in watching? Looking for some, I dunno…
And I agree about the recuperation period needed after seeing him perform live -- haha
LIZ -- with many of you out there in LA, me thinks we will have tons of inspired materials for TDC
I can’t wait for your recaps and insights.
random LA thoughts:
Mike and I ran into Eli in front of the Nokia just before the show. He was in LA doing some session work and was going to the show. He is thinking about relocating to LA from NY. His smashed finger looked less gross, but the fingernail refuses to grow back. Though you would all like to know that haha!
We also ran into the new band after the show. I have to admit that I’m still bonded with the old band, and frankly don’t even know the names of the new guys. But I met the new bass player who looks younger close up than on stage and seems really sweet. I asked how he got involved with the band and he said that he’s a friend of Mike’s and Mike called him up.
This from Cinny72, youTube vid post…”David KILLS on his performance of Apologize in Los Angeles @ Nokia Theatre 7/17/09. Sorry it’s only partial… I usually don’t take videos, but this was just so ridiculously incredible and epic that I had to capture it!”
Loved Apologize when he performed it with just the keyboard in Seattle. Vermeers post…”David goes into a song as if he goes to another place like others have said. He was incredibly powerful and passionate and I was shocked to see how hard he was pounding on the keyboard at parts of the songs”….describes it perfectly. Though 15 rows back, I felt a similar experience….”you feel the surge that’s about to come up, the air that he takes in and it’s almost like feeling the roar of the ocean as he lets out a tremendous burst of melody and lyrics. ” It totally took my breath away…… David on keyboard is sooooo devine. He needs no accompaniment
Hi everyone, it’s Vee, I am still alive after my first ever David concert.
I would like to thank Dj, Mike and Liz for making last night’s concert an experience not to be forgotten. Also thanks Bebe, Abrra, SB, Marlie, Betsy, Dawn, HG, JR and all my efamily.
Recap of this evening…..SPEECHLESS…Still floating…..
Sorry will try to write a bit more later. Sorry no videos to share because of all those security guards.
First thing first, got to pack my things because I will be flying today at 10 am for Sydney while my sister is flying home to the Philippines. So many wonderful memories of my first US trip. And that include meeting you guys and able to hear your voices.
But the culmination was tonight: watching and hearing David sing my favourite songs LIVE….. All the songs were to die for especially Zero Gravity and Apologize and Works for me and Barriers and Touch my hands and ALTNOY and My hands …..EVERYTHING
See you guys!!!!!
Dawn -- wanted to share a tidbit from the Seattle VIP. There was a darling 3yo David fan. She won one of the raffle question ops. She told him (with her mom holding her “I love you” and asked for a hug. He was so good with her. Actually perfect setting for lil ones. Told my 4yo grandaughter who is now insistant on going to his concert in DC (Fairfax, VA).
For those hoping to get good seats to concerts, keep checking the TM site. A couple of ladies picked up seats in the first 5 rows one week before the concert. Guess they were Demi 5 star VIP’s that had not sold.
VEE!!!!!!!! You’re alive! Am so, so, so happy for you my dear!
“All songs were to die for esp, ZG and Apologize and.. and… and…”
LMAO. I feel you Vee.
VERMEER -- you mentioned in your recap that it was up to David if it was photos or autographs. In that case, Naree won’t be able to have my winged-piglet shirt signed cos people will always choose to have pix taken. SIGH Oh well, next tour then
Just came back from cooking dinner. There’s a lull in the uploads. Been 2 hours.. hmmm…
Meantime, have you visited the SACRAMENTO TOUR PAGE? Lots of HD vids available, esp from from brett77, stunningquartz and fanOFtheDavids. Check them out now, HERE!

Oh Angelica -- you are so awesome. Your videos are brilliant. I especially like the Sade one. I must watch it everyday. Thank you so much!
talk about Motion and Emotion -- don’t miss this
He is total and absolute perfection. How long can I go on living this way?
FG -- I have been mezmerised by that video since last night! LMAO on the comments posted there:
“Two things: 1. his face hurts me 2. I swear his hips are the reason that the earth rotates”
“gaaahh -DLG will kill me one day! and I just realized I have only 1 WEEK to go before I meet David (insert a few thousand OMGs here!)”
“Ok, I’m barely alive after this. THUD!!”\
And I don’t blame them. No siree -- not.one.bit.

Was a heartwarming experience to speak to you last night as you waited for the show to start. Just knowing how far you came to see him is overwhelming. Our chat was so easy and I felt like I have known you all my life. Please check in when you get home and give us all the details of the show.

Enjoy!
Good morning everyone! Catching up from last night!
Great recaps from those who went -- so glad you got a chance to see David, Vee!
I’m loving the plaid and tie look (quick question: didn’t David wear this suit when he performed Crush on the Spanish MTV?).
Good morning HG!
I think you are referring to TRL, they look similar but a different tie. The dress shirt could also be different but very similar except that the one in TRL was long sleeved. Nokia is definitely short sleeved.
This the video for DLG, the title was wrongly posted.
Wow, great videos and thanks for putting them up so quickly!
It must have been an amazing feeling for David to be back at the Nokia and see that over a year later people are still on their feet screaming and applauding for him.
I’m so happy for him!
Good morning everyone! this is a tweet from Mietra, David’s friend, who was at the concert last night…
I felt bad a lat of people left after David finished, I wonder how Demi felt???
She was amazing as well, so was KSM!! really great music
1:48 AM Jul 17th from web
hmmmmm? Interesting…Could be why Demi doesn’t mention David more when she does promos. She may feel he doesn’t need the promotion. Maybe?
See you all later!
Sorry…I just noticed the date of Mietra’s tweet and she was talking about the Sacramento concert, not Nokia.
hello everyone, been lurking. I am in my summer routine and not at the computer much…
For all the complaints we have had and will have about this tour, I am so thankful that it gives me the chance to hear David live so many times. I have only been able to see a few performance vids of the last few concerts, but
HE IS AWESOME AND I GET TO HEAR HIM AGAIN!
That’s all I need to say right now…. back to lurking
(((Hug)))
Morning!
While I’m thinking of it…Where is the lyric change on WFM at the Nokia?
From Snarkies:
“29: Blaykee: “Lyric change in wfm again”
Junie4DJA -- hey thanks for the heads up!

“I felt bad a lat of people left after David finished, I wonder how Demi felt??? She was amazing as well, so was KSM!! really great music
1:48 AM Jul 17th from web”
Oh dear! It’s one thing to hear about David fans leaving before Demi comes on, in smaller venues, but to leave in droves at the Nokia Theater? Yikes!
I didn’t really think through Rena’s criticism of David’s fans because they/we’ve been so dismissive of Demi, but I don’t want any of this behavior to hurt David in any way. Think Clay Aiken and the Claymates, and the backlash Clay received due to the perception of Claymates’ bad behavior (basically, Claymates got a bad reputation for having no sense of humor whenever Clay Aiken was satirized or made fun of, for constantly promoting him when radio DJs and others weren’t trying to feel them, and for going on the war path against other artists who were seen in competition with Clay).
Basically, what I’m trying to say is: I totally understand fans not supporting this tour and not going, and even understand fans showing up just for David while leaving before Demi comes on, but when David’s own friend is feeling sorry for Demi, I get a little worried. Because, if Mietra feels bad for her, Disney might get enraged. Jive could create a backlash and backburn David for a long, long time just to piss us off. And, yes, record labels do make those decisions about who to promote and who to backburn all the time. If for no other reason than to make sure we the fans understand who has the real power.
Let’s be careful to not create a bad reputation for the Arch Angels.
JR -- Thank you for putting up the videos so promptly. We are so lucky to have such a choice batch to peruse!
Those comments on DLG are so funny.
“Two things: 1. his face hurts me 2. I swear his hips are the reason that the earth rotates”
HG -- I liked your dream. It’s been months since I had a David dream. I miss it.
SF -- Adam says thank you! I can’t believe it, but he is 9 months old now, crawling and climbing up furniture! Doesn’t seem that long ago that we were discussing playing David’s music for the birth. Whenever he visits me, we play Imagine and he is entranced. It’s really something to see.
Good Morning All!
In thinking about the David/Demi Pairing, I really believe it is the case of two Davids. Probably when the contracts were drawn up everyone was thinking of the David from AI and even though his solo tour brought out a newer performing side, they perhaps thought -- he’s a good singer and he’s cute so he’ll attract young girls but he won’t upstage Demi’s stsge presence.
Then of course we all know what happened. By the time the ink had dried, little did they realize that the David they signed is one who could morph at the speed of light into a newer, stronger, take no prisoners, leave you limp -- performer. Whatever is fueling these quick changes is mercurial and fast-moving. Every end of tour it seems he becomes this new artist that we have to get used to all over again. My Gosh!
SF, as you rightly said by the time David is done -- he leaves you with nothing left for Demi. He is that intense. He takes you along for the ride with him and when he’s done, you’re done as well for the night.
At this rate, his management may find it becoming increasingly harder to pair him with artists in the future. He converts fans of whatever artist he’s performing with and steals a piece of their hearts away for good -- *shaking head in amazement*
HG -- #171,
You make a good point for the defense in general but individuals make their own choices. People leave concerts early for many reasons. Heck, even during the AI tour, hordes of people left before DCook even came on and he was the winner.
For me personally, because of a background in music, my ears have become attuned to a specific vocal quality. I can’t explain how it happens except to say that it knows it when its heard. Even if a person is a stellar technical singer/performer to other people, I just cannot tolerate it no matter what they do.
I happened to catch Demi last night on Conan because my TV was on as I waited up for vids. Granted, that was TV, I have never heard her perform live. I like her from her movies so I will give her the benefit of the doubt at my show but if my ears don’t hear what it likes to hear -- I cannot promise that I will stay to hear the rest even for David’s sake.
“At this rate, his management may find it becoming increasingly harder to pair him with artists in the future. ”
Joymus, you make a really good point. But the main thing I see happening with this tour is two things:
1. They overestimated Demi’s popularity.
2. They overestimated David’s popularity with the tween demographic.
Because, if it’s that noticeable that a number of people in the audience are leaving after David’s set, then that means that most of the people are not necessarily the “tweens” who are there for Demi and who will then discover David.
There are a bunch of adult Archies showing up to this Disney kiddie concert. My only concern about that, though, is not that David’s management will find it harder to pair him with other artists, but that it will be harder for them to figure out how to target him to a certain market since his Archies are showing up no matter what. They can book him to perform at some gigantic playground with immature kiddie rides and a pool with floating jello, and the adult Archies will still show up just to hear his Voice.
Now, will his management think, “Ooh boy, this kid can sell out any venue!”? No. They’ll just think, “Gee, David’s adult fans really are the most fanatic fans. How are we going to widen the fanbase beyond those crazies?”
Those of us who criticized this tour did so because we were clear this concert was not about us, the adult fans. It was always about targeting David’s appeal to underage kids by having him open for some Disney TV star. The kids at that age wouldn’t have understood the outrage of this set up (having David open for a lesser talent), but we, the adults, did, and showing up just to see David, while leaving before the main act, I’m not sure is necessarily going to be doing David any favors since a major mega corporate entity like Disney is involved.
The fans who are staying away are getting criticized for “not supporting David,” but I don’t know that showing up for the “opening act” and leaving before the main one is any more supportive.
Just my $0.02. And on that note, I need to leave for my Saturday errands.
Until next time!
Thanks joymus and sf for the link to Silent Night. I had seen that before, just didn’t realize that Lupe was echoing him in spanish! Guess I must have been pre-occupied!
HG -- Terrific points made. Now his label and management only have two colossal problems on their hands.
a)What type of genre music does he best fit into for his next album release to get the best radioplay for the buck?
b)How indeed can we widen his fanbase if the only people going to his concert are his Archies?
Food for thought. I don’t envy them at all yet at the same time they have to do right by David. For while these next great debates rage behind coporate walls, David is working his behind off to jump through their silly hoops.
jr, I did not have a chance to tell you how I can so see the picture you painted here. This is from the Journaling thread:
jackryan4da . July 11, 2009 at 10:21 pm .
….. let us paint a scenario for the sake of discussion:
Assuming we protest and not go to the Demi Tour:
1. So David does his set w/ a slew of fans in attendance (cos realistically not all fans are disillusioned with this gig)
2. David doesn’t get the props he deserves, gets very little screams, gets a lukewarm reception cos the people in attendance are not his peeps & barely know his songs
3. Will Jive take the lukewarm reception and dismal attendance for his set as fans protesting David’s opening for Demi?
4. Will Disney, media & Demi fans think the same way?
All the excitement generated by David’s performance are in a large part the result of fans enthusiastically showing up for him. These are the fans who can go, who think that it is a good way to support him, and so it is all good. They get to enjoy David’s music and scream for him, for David to hear, and for management and the label to hear. And to see too. So, showing up for David’s act is all good.
On the train home to San Diego from LA. Still in shock. On my iPhone so harder to type! Concert just amazing. I emailed Liz some of my thoughts so hopefully she’ll post them. Met the band at the restaurant we had dinner at after David’s set. Very fun and gracious. A warm hug from Eli earlier in the afternoon was fun. Good to see him and hear that he is just fine.
VIP is beyond comprehension. Just the song performance alone made it surreal. I have more about that in my comments to Liz…
SF… Green and black plaid… My favorite!
Vee and her sister were delightful. We had a great dinner along with Liz and djafan doing the usual nonstop David chatter. Got to put in my request again to Mike for sheet music on line. He is going to take it to management. He offered to write it out for me (LOL )…
Will check in later in San Diego. Providence and Manchester seem so far in the future..
I think David still widened his fan based via this tour with Demi. Sure, some people left. But a LOT MORE people stayed! Some of them started out just sitting there, and then joined in the clapping, and then felt the urge to jump and bounce! I witnessed this process first hand at the Sacramento tour. A Demi’s fan’s mom, who sat next to me, actually turned to me during David’s set, clapping and smiling. She said. “This is crazy, isn’t it?”
So, to me, this is how everything got pulled together. David’s die hard fans achieved a critical mass. They let out thunderous screams to excite everybody around them. So so fans or non fans got a little psyched up, watched his performance and got drawn in. Some fans left after David’s set for their own reasons, non fans, who have warmed up to him, or converted to him, stayed. So, it is all good.
I think it is totally fair for the fans to decide how long they want to stay for ANY concert, including this D/D tour. It would be too much to expect from the David fans, that they need to stay for the whole show. Because, what would come next? That we should be criticized or feel bad for not cheering as loud for Demi as we did for David? Come on!
Just because David is not the headliner, we do not have to be a “special” breed of audience.
However, I do agree that it is a great idea to just focus on how great David is, in the show reviews in sites like ticketmaster.com. Of course, there is freedom of speech. But we are trying to look out for David, so let’s just talk about David in those non David fan sites.
A dfLiz/mikesd review is in the works.
Peruu -- Excellent points made! Thank You!
Why should it be hard to target him for a market? The match with McFly went incredibly well. His audience in the UK was older, as well as pretty “cool”. In Manila he outperformed Cook--and his album is right now outselling Cook’s. He also got better reviews. All Jive has to do is quit trying to force him into the wrong niche--though I’m sure they envisioned lots of money to be made in that particular kiddie market.
David never was bubblegum pop--especially not during AI, though even there the producers refused to accept that his appeal was mainstream and not just to tweens. The success of Crush should have proved how wrong-headed such a perception really was--but tptb refused to acknowledge this, opening season 8 with that ludicrous clip of tween disappointment over David’s loss to Cook. That’s why the iCarly Hannah Montana stuff always seemed to me a step backwards--as was this tour. These gigs only reenforced stereotypical thinking about David, thinking based on his youth and good looks rather than on his artistry--a big mistake. It played into the myth that David was ripe for Disney.
As for people walking out after his set--surely Jive must be aware of how David’s older fans initially reacted to the matchup and how alienated they felt. It was offensive from the start to have paired him with another newcomer who was younger, less talented, and less popular. If nothing else, the poor ticket sales should have clued them in. None of what’s happening should come as any surprise at this point.
It’s not out of the ordinary for people to show up late for a concert when they aren’t interested in the headliner.
It IS out of the ordinary when they leave after the headliners.
As to Jive backburnering David per the reflection of people leaving.. will NEVER happen.
Jive .. is all about the bottom line. They get their cut no matter what happens, who stays or who goes. They are gung ho in getting more stuff on the market to generate revenue.
Putting D on a backburner .. is not an option for them. He sells .. WITHOUT PROMOTION.
It’s like.. paydirt for them.. all the glory none of the guts.. he’s a win/win for them..
Peruu -- I forgot to add -- the reverse is also true. In reading the after-concert reviews I came across several from people who went only to support David, saw Demi perform and came away pleasantly surprised. So it works both ways. Demi’s fans will stay for her but like I said before not before David steals/converts a couple for himself for the next time around. Chuckles to self…..
Funnygirl#158,
Thanks so much to you and anyone else I forgot to thank for the video appreciation comments. It was my pleasure, believe me.
I watched that Sacramento video you posted 3 times. I think that’s my limit for that particular video in one sitting.
Here ~ this was from last night ~ she seems comfortable within a certain range ~ I don’t think she has more than a one octave range ~ she can’t sustain anything ~ and sounds squeaky. That’s just MY review of what I see.
On the other hand ~ whenever David releases a POWER vocal anywhere in any song ~ the freaking arena goes NUTS. It sends the place on it’s end. I LOVE it whenever I see it happen ~ because that whole place is being exposed to real talent at that moment.
Below ~ for your viewing “pleasure”
Joner 8) just saying ~
Dawn #187, So this is what I missed when I left after David’s set?
angelica, I enjoyed your videos, esp. Rabbit. This was my 1st time listening to a Matt Duke song all the way thru.
Above some of u mentioned future careers for the Disney/Nick teens. As an FYI, Capital Records Nashville has signed Jeannette McCurdy to a contract. Richard Parkinson congratulated her in a tweet and said that he hopes he can work w/her in the future. He has mentioned on FOD that he works w/artists, songwriters, etc. in Nashville.
This is a question asked of Brooke White during an interview about her album..I did not know this and I’m surprised..Randy Jackson from AI is her co-manager?
*************************************************************
Randy Jackson was actually the co-executive producer on your new album. How did you two sync up?
“I actually ran into Randy at Guitar Center after the show and that’s how this whole thing got started. He was great. He synced me up with Sanctuary Artist Management. The two now co-manage me. I wouldn’t have anticipated working with him, but he has been really great to work with and very supportive of me as an artist.”
Found this over in the comments at snarkies:
Evan Taubenfeld, Avril Lavigne’s former guitarist and older brother of one of the guys in Demi Lovato’s band, tweeted this:
I got star-struck around David Archuleta. I mean “Crush” is one of my favs of the year but damn, “act like you been here before bro” …..
Twitter name is evantaubenfeld!
SF -- Great find! Just researched then and this is what I found -- hope this link works.

WHAT? they had that Baldwin and they didn’t share it with David?
/grimace
Abrra
They look like a very foward thinking management company that utilize other resources for an artist. You decide.
Abrra ~ holy moly ~ do you want the whole Disney Machine to come crashing down?
David doesn’t need the Baldwin, he needs no costume changes, he needs no light show, he needs no fancy choreography .. give him your attention .. the rest takes care of itself 8)

You are preaching to the choir Sistah! It shows exactly how some artists need propping up. There ain’t nuthin gona fix that song. I knew from sampling other tour vids, that TV image does not a singer make. When I was 10yrs old I didn’t know the difference either.

Abrra ~ I don’t remember listening to pop when I was 10 ~ still listening to Mom and Dad’s music back then ~ but I think Donny Osmond grabbed me by age 11 .. hahahahaha
Angelica -- your I couldn’t love you more video is awesome.
Vermeer -- You finally got to meet/hug David in person! He was great in Seattle.
I actually stayed pretty much for Demi’s entire set. She has her fans, so I wouldn’t worry too much about her. I can see why the kids like her. She was cute and worked the stage. Her voice was a bit hoarse through some of the songs. David’s voice was not at peak shape during Seattle but he knew he couldn’t hit some of the high notes and changed up his notes to suit his voice for the day. Demi doesn’t have the control thus she squeaked.
Staying or going is a personal choice. For people who hesitated about going, his set really is pretty long for an opener. And of course, he was exquisite during the VIP songs (even during a bad voice day). I can’t imagine what he would be like in a few years.
Wow, joymus..If all that is true, Brooke was at the right place at the right time when she ran into Randy at Guitar Center. I wonder what they would do with an artist like David. Jive doesn’t seem to be able or just isn’t working to get David’s music played on all the major radio networks. It is one of my biggest frustrations. I don’t listen to the radio anymore for that reason. Don’t know what else to do but boycott the airwaves. **sighing very sadly**

I have a few years on you. At 10 I was into Elvis. Being the radio freak that I am, I listened to pop, soul, and of course country( lived in the south, then). Music was my escape.

dfLIZ, I can’t wait to read your and Mike’s review!
SF #166 and 167, I am completely intrigued by the Mietra tweet. I stayed for one Demi song just to see for myself. I had left my floor seat and was way up high which is on the same level as the main entrance, so I can leave easily. During the break, there were a lot of empty seats but when the concert resumed, the seats filled back up. I was really surprised because I was wanting to see if indeed David’s fans would leave. Though possibly, they left after one or two or a few songs. The screams for Demi were pretty tremendous so I concluded that Sacramento loves this Disney star. Just wanted to share that. As for myself, I left shortly before that one song was over because I had enough.
All along, long before this, I thought a lot about how David would feel if he knew his fans might not want to stay for Demi. The obvious answer would be he wouldn’t like it and would want us to stick around and enjoy Demi’s set. But really, speaking for myself only, it’s almost physically not doable to expose myself to her after every cell in my body has been impregnated with David’s Voice and essence. I did try at least. Hi bakyspritz! I had to say “speaking for myself” because obviously others can do it, stay for Demi’s entire set. Glad to know you too enjoyed the VIP experience.
Joymus #174, I love what you say. “Even if a person is a stellar technical singer/performer to other people, I just cannot tolerate it no matter what they do.” I have very little background in music but I totally relate to what you say from the visual art standpoint. Some things you just can’t do; your body just rejects it.
Joymus, agree with you too (#185). It can work both ways. I think once the audience are there, it is up to the artist to give whatever they have, to appeal to the fans-to-be. At the San Jose show, during Demi’s set, a lady in front of me happened to turn her head and saw me sitting down. She gave me that smile of understanding. Her group left after the second or third of Demi’s songs. The group next to me though, stayed for the whole show, with a couple of the girls with their arms up and waving throughout Demi’s whole set. Those were David’s fans.
As for me, I was there for the whole show at San Jose. However, at the Sacramento show, I had to cover my ears when KSM was singing. I could hear them that way without hurting my ears. (Forgot to bring ear plugs.) We left after David’s show, not because of this older me, but because of my tweeny daughter, who came only for David, that time.
When KSM brought up David’s name at San Jose, the crowd responded with extremely loud screams. I was so surprised that KSM did not mention David at Sacramento. They only asked the crowd about Demi. David, during his time on stage, gave KSM a shout out and thanked Demi enthusiastically. Well, if people wonder why we are some very polite and devoted fans, they can take some notes here.
I noticed at our venue, only a handful of people left immediately after David’s set, and about the same number were arriving at that time. Those who were leaving were all adults without children. I have noticed a similar amount of shuffling around even at operas and major symphonic concerts, so I see no reason for hurt feelings unless there have been several mass exoduses.
One thing I did notice at our show which delighted me: Seated near us were three very nice looking dads (mid to late 30s) with their young daughters. All stayed seated during KSM and clapped politely when their set was done. I probably would not have remembered to notice their reactions to David (I was distracted, I confess), except that at the end of WFY I heard a loud, adult male holler “YEAH” over the screams. All three dads were on their feet and clapping enthusiastically, not politely. I have to think that with the right material, David won’t have trouble attracting more male fans.
LA VIP review is up in Short Takes (formerly Editorials). Take a look http://www.thedavidchronicles.com/2009/07/la-vip/
HG 39 -- “Amazing how he morphs into “man” at one point and “little boy” the next.”
I know we keep marveling over it, but truly, he morphs into **very much** man, and a scamp of a little boy. The ends of that spectrum are so far apart, you could put vermeer’s “ocean” into it!
Speaking of… oh vermeer!!!! I’m so thrilled for you! And thank you for the awesome description of VIP. Hugs, hugs, hugs!
DR 111 -- I don’t know what David was doing, but apparently the photographer didn’t know what he/she was doing either! I thought it was virtually impossible to get a bad pic of David, but…. what’s *that* about? (laughing at the bottle of ketchup, tho’!)
SF 123 -- No David on the radio in Portland either. Still. Ever. I just don’t get it either.

Okay, I need my online family to keep an eye out for ONE Atlantic City VIP ticket that someone can’t use. I just got ALL the way to the end of buying one and it then came back and said, Sorry, All Sold Out! ARGH!
So, if anyone sees one on FOD or Snarky’s, could you let me know? You can post something here or better yet, use the contact page.
Thank you!
Didn’t want to change the numbers now. Ignore this.
Abrra -- Thanks! …you have mail!
highervibe! Hey!!! Big (((hugs))) to you! Was Portland your only VIP? I’m really sorry it got cancelled. I am keeping my fingers crossed for you to find yourself another VIP. Sac was my one and only, and momentarily, I was looking into other locations, flights, etc. but had to stop myself. It is sooo tempting to try and go to another one. Sigh.
My fervent wish is that they’d cancel the tour itself. Right now he’s wasting his time. He’s knocking himself out for what? Money? Certainly not to pick up a lot of fans, not with tickets going begging everywhere.
Meanwhile the reviews are tepid and full of condescension. Here’s the OC Register on Archie’s performance last night:
“Archuleta in his turn delivered a 45-minute, 11-song set that earned almost as much fan love as Lovato’s. With his typically lovely voice, he sang singles off his self-titled album, ‘Crush’ and ‘A Little Too Not Over You,’ as well as a few dancier numbers such as ‘Zero Gravity.’
“Compared to his first Southern California solo show in Pomona earlier this year, he seemed more settled as a showman – a little less ‘aw shucks,’ though you’re never going to get all the ‘gee whiz’ out of this guy.”
This, after an extravagant paragraphs of praise for Levato. How is this helping David’s career I’d like to know? Seems to me it’s doing just the opposite.
praepos ~ ah ~ long time no see ~ you’re right ~ I agree 150%, David should bail on the rest of the concerts, breach the contract ~ ruin his reputation ~ his career is going to hell in a hand basket anyway.
praepos: Your question: “How is this helping David’s career I’d like to know?” The answer: Youtube.
These newspapers are Disney Machines. Fans’s videos along with viewers’ comments are David’s organic marketing arm.

Denver, I went on TM and scored GREAT seats in row 9 front center. Too bad I’m not going!
Dawn#187, Uhm… thanks for sharing that video?
Whoever set up this tour for David to be an “opening act” did Demi no favors whatsoever. I mean, seriously, I’m embarrassed for her. There are seasoned performers who shouldn’t follow David at a concert, let alone this poor child. Good Lord!
I agree, Abrra: that Baldwin is wasted on the wrong artist.
Highervibe, our boy/man will continue to amaze morphing as he does from one gig to the next.
Hi Betsy! Thanks for your feedback on my dream. Love your grandson’s picture!
peruu, did I say he should quit? I said I hoped they’d cancel the whole tour. That would be out of David’s capacity to do. And unfortunately the truth IS negative. He’s demeaned by the tour--and is being treated accordingly by the press. Fans should not be playing into this.
As far as David’s career goes, he’s got the talent and character to rise above a bad deal. But this doesn’t mean it’s not a setback. If this was the best his label and management could come up with this summer, after he’s sold a million albums abroad and over 700,000 at home and is approaching double platinum with his single--all without much promotion--maybe we should be praying he ditches both.
David’s latest tweet

praepos,
“Right now he’s wasting his time. He’s knocking himself out for what? Money? Certainly not to pick up a lot of fans, not with tickets going begging everywhere.” and “Unfortunately the truth IS negative.”
I don’t doubt that you have David’s best interests at heart as you assert that this tour is demeaning to him and a setback for him but read on parts of soundscene’s post from elsewhere that you may or may not have seen before. I thought it was interesting as it touches on concerts, ticket sales, and music business in general. Another thing, the “tepid” review is just one review and is not an indicator that this tour is now proven to be a bad idea. Reviews like this pop up during any tour, not just this one. Not everyone “gets” David. Yet.
Partial soundscene post dated June 5, 2009:
“Ninety percent of the artists you hear on the radio–even the ones that sell loads of records–cannot sell out arenas, or even half-arenas. That figure is probably higher in this economy. No Doubt had a buy one get one free deal for some of their tour stops. Il Divo has recently discounted tickets on their tour. Sometimes an artist needs more help in certain cities because their songs don’t get played in that city as much, or there are too many other concerts in that city, or that artists is playing in another city that’s pretty close, thus saturating the market. Or maybe it’s just the economy.
… In this economy, unless you’ve got a big machine to finance an arena (or half-arena) tour, you don’t do them. Idol has a big machine to finance it, and it has the hype surrounding the #1 TV show in the US.
Disney also has a big machine. Disney-owned Hollywood Records is pretty much the only label that sends its young artists out on arena tours. They do this because their backed by Disney, which has the money to do it. Sony Records, owners of Jive Records, David A.’s label, does not have that kind of money. They would not send any of their newer artists on tour like that. And if they did, the artist would have to pay back a lot of the cost of the tour. David A., David C., Kelly C., Daughtry, etc.–they all PAY for their own tours. Daughtry made the comment after touring for a year and a half after his season ended that he barely broke even. But he did it to get himself out there.
So here’s the choice for David A.–tour more on his own dime, or make a profit off of a Disney-funded arena tour that will get him in front of an audience that, if you can grab them, will buy a lot of albums. That’s why he’s opening for Demi Lovato (you don’t need to know who she is–your kids already do). It’s not because he’s less successful (he’s not), but because her label has the money to fund a tour like this, and his doesn’t. That’s why Jordin Sparks is opening for the Jonas Brothers. The options for David A. as an opener were limited. There were less summer tours this year due to the economy, and then you have to match him with an artist that makes sense. Miley Cyrus, although she sells more tickets, isn’t touring until the fall. The Jonas Brothers only have female openers. Demi Lovato, who is clean-cut, who plays guitar and piano, who writes her own songs, was touring. Her TV show is just becoming really popular right now. John Mayer loves her and collaborated with her on 2 songs on her forthcoming album. Jon McLaughlin collaborated on another one. She’s a musician and she’s a teenager–it was a perfect fit. And David A. would stand to actually make money touring. For the record, this tour is selling well in other areas. It’s a 43-city tour. It’ll sell better in some areas than others–just as the AI8 tour will sell better in some areas than in others.”
vermeer !! “Sac was my one and only, and momentarily, I was looking into other locations, flights, etc. but had to stop myself. ”
Please please please share your secret of self control with me.
Another thing ~ I’ve not received my Hershey tickets ~ has anyone else not received their tickets yet? I only have the upgrade for Hershey ~ so I need my tickets.
vermeer 230, great post! Explanatory, logical, factual…thank you!
dawn65, I don’t know, that’s a good question. What’s with this self-control? hmm… Maybe it’s called husband!? He doesn’t stop me from doing what I want, and has been supportive of all my David passion, but I put the brakes on, I think, because of him. I try not to go OTT too often. As it is, I am not showing too much of this self-control today as I have barely left my computer all day. This is bad, total ODD. Alright, getting up now to go do something else, maybe go draw David…

“It’s not because he’s less successful (he’s not), but because her label has the money to fund a tour like this, and his doesn’t.”
Just the facts ma’am! Wonderful post!
Abrra
emmiegirl, thanks! We all want the best for David but I don’t think it’s that easy for anyone of us to conclude certain things based solely on what we see which may be just a partial or rough picture at best.
Ok, prying myself now from my favorite thing, my laptop…
vermeer .. “What’s with this self-control? ”
something I used to have
Vermeer, thanks for sharing Soundscene’s comments. She’s so on the up and up with the business side of music.
Dawn, not every lemon has to be squeezed!
Praepos, I do feel your pain. But, remember, David is 18 and these are but “growing pains” (it helps that he’s just going along for the ride and enjoying it immensely).
Yeah, I read the rationale--and it never made sense to me. David’s NOT selling many more albums--and he’s not picking up that many more fans. Cook’s path made more sense--breaking even, but doing it on his own terms as an artist. Another solo tour or another tour abroad would have made more sense for David at this point.
I know soundscene knows how the industry works better than I--but on this I believe common sense is on my side. Why? Because at the heart of all this is the whole notion of stardom and how to attain it. It makes a whole lot of sense, therefore, for a newcomer to open for an established star--since some of that stardust will inevitably rub off on the opener. But doesn’t it work just the opposite if a singer opens for someone less of a star than he is? Doesn’t that mean he actually loses some of his own stellar wattage? How can Levato give to David what she doesn’t even have for herself yet? It makes no sense.
Yes, he’ll pick up some fans along the way--but they’ll number in the hundreds, not the thousands--since her own fanbase is not that broad or deep. This is why Jive at the very least should have pushed for more equal treatment in promotions and in billing, even if Disney was picking up the lion’s share of the tab. Levato is simply not that big yet and David already had a proven record as an attraction. That should have counted for more than it actually did in their bargaining.
I am wishing for him to sing YEDL and to wear a fitted, button shirt tonight!
…too selfish?
HG
I don’t think this is working
Squeezing so hard my hands are hurting
Ought to let go in the first place
Dawn, why not try this lemon squeezer:
You say I don’t know what I want
But it worked out just fine
You said it never could be done
But it worked out just fine, oh
You can say anything you want
But it worked out just fine
If it works for me
Then it works for me
If it works for me
Then it works for me
praepos 238, I respectfully disagree. As was previously stated, we simply are not privy to the information these decisions are based on and have no idea what options were or were not available or viable.
We all share your desire to see David opening for a
megastar and subsequently headlining his own megatour.
These things will come to pass, just not in the first
year of his career.
Dawn or anyone who already did VIP -- some questions,
How long before can you arrive at VIP?
After the VIP are you escorted to your seat?
How much time do you have from the session to the start of the show?
Thanks
praepos 238
“Yes, he’ll pick up some fans along the way–but they’ll number in the hundreds, not the thousands.”
According to David’s MySpace, since his solo tour he has picked up more than 25,000 new fans. I know because I’ve been keeping track.
Cook was ahead of David before his solo tour, but now David has 18,920 more members than Cook.
Thats thousands…just sayin’
joymus,
When I got there about 30 minutes before it started, there were already about 35 people in line. You can show up whenever you want I guess, they just won’t let you in until it’s time.
We weren’t escorted to our seats, but by the time our VIP was done, the doors were already open and people had started seating already.
It was about 30 minutes before KSM started.
It goes superduper fast .. but I am on a total adrenaline rush during the whole day when I’m seeing David, so don’t quote me on times.
I stood in line for 10 hours for Williamsville, 4 of which were in 10 degree weather, looking back it seems like a blink of an eye.
It’s the HDD.
When is yours?????
I’m so excited for you.
emmiegirl…who are we to say this?
“These things will come to pass, just not in the first
year of his career”.
Anything and everything can happen for David, there are no rules for someone so very talented. David has already gone beyond our first year dreams for him…and it will be amazing for him in the months ahead.
SB
oh .. I’m sad that people join his myspace , it’s so out of date. I hate they don’t do a better job with it. I’ve volunteered to updated it .. but never get a response.. LOL.
David’s fansites are far better plethoria’s of information than his myspace or even his offical website. So sad.
The bottom line to me through all the concerns is David is earning money, he’s doing what he wants to do, and he’s happy. The boy is HAPPY I tell you .. anyone that’s gone and met him along this tour, can tell you that .. it oozes out of him .. and he’s enjoying every second of it.
David sang To Be With You .. at VIP .. WITH a FAN
SB, I agree 100% he has surpassed expectations for his first year as a solo artist. My gosh, his accomplishments this year are amazing and reflect his immense talent and hard work. I certainly didn’t mean he is not capable of opening for a megastar or headlining his own big tour this summer, just that it looks like neither of those things will be happening this year and that we can look forward to it next summer.
I am a bottom feeder here when it comes to eloquence, so I am glad you pointed that out so I could clarify myself!
Yeah, he’s having fun. Yeah, he’s making money. But he’s not getting the respect he deserves. That should matter too.
DAWN #249 -- seriously? That was my dream!
The girl will NEVER be the same again LOL
Where’s SF?
Do you know where his cancelled tour shows are? He told a fan called Lisa -- Soundscene perhaps -- he’s replacing some of his canclled shows with acoustic shows and wanted song recommendations. Don’t know why no one said -- ONE!
VIP sounded like a blast today. Probably feeling much more relaxed. David just had me YTbing -- primary songs -- they are too cute.
sweetonda--He’s not picking up those new fans from the Levato tour.
“But he’s not getting the respect he deserves.”
Praepos, where are you hearing that he’s not getting respect?
Praepos , I’m curious … how many times have you had an opportunity to see David LIVE ???
joymus..That info is kind of confusing, simply because if he is doing small solo acoustic performances to replace the cancelled shows in Louisville KY 8/5 & Grand Rapids MI 8/17, there would already be some adverstising about it…like where? This is the first we’ve heard about it. I think he may be talking about the solos he’s already scheduled and the acoustic sessions he’s talking about are for the VIPs at the solos. Unless he is doing something like the Tribeca performance…hmmmmmm? that would be VERY interesting!
They are loving David in Vegas! This is one time what happens in Vegas DOES NOT STAY in Vegas!!
It’s inherent in the situation.
I’m not even sure I understand what you mean by that. I’m just trying to get a read on why you are trying so hard to rain on my parade I guess.
Here’s the quote from Lisa at LV/Vip
34: lisa: “He’s doing acousticy shows in place of a couple canceled dates (not Portland). He asked what he should sing. I said a James Morrison song. He thought that was a good idea. He didn’t say whether the band would be at the smaller shows.”
praepos I think you have made your point in over 2 threads. Can we respectfully move on?
joymus, yes I saw that, but again..no info has been forthcoming. I live in Louisville so if he’s doing a Tribeca-like appearance here or close by..I would like to know about it! His mgmt would have to do some heavy promo here as David is not well known or as popular here like he is in other areas since he’s not played on the radio here. It really PAINS me to say that but it’s true.
I took my family to see him perform during the season 7 AI tour. I avoided the solo tour because I didn’t relish being surrounded by screaming women in such tight quarters. The UK tour most interested me--the Levato tour not at all.
David looks amazing tonight..
http://img187.yfrog.com/i/2kv.jpg/
I hereby call an emergency meeting of the fashion police .. just saying .. it’s too painful to talk about.
praepos .. well if you don’t relish being surrounded by screaming women .. I’m not sure if any of his concerts will ever be a happy place for you .. there are thousands of them… and growing by the minute.
On a personal note .. I consider it an honor to see David perform .. many don’t get the opportunity .. so I guess I’m willing to forego all the sacrifices he’s making to support him.
I’m not so much interested in how David’s career fits into my needs .. I’m more interested in what David’s needs from me .. to get to the next step… and I’ll do what I can.. always and forever .. Amen.
oh my heck SF .. you are jaded my lovely. I’m about to get lambasted so I’ll say no more .. but no.. NOT a fan of tonight’s .. attire ..
Praepos, How do you know some of those new fans are not from the Lovato tour?
sweetonda .. ALOT of these new fans are from the Lovato tour .. David sold 2000 cd’s last week.. many tweets and reviews on Ticketmaster have people going to see Demi.. rushing out to buy his CD .. he’s won over many folks.
Thank you dawn. I just don’t understand why praepos said that. I know he is gaining new fans and will continue to do so. He can’t help it because once they hear him they will be hooked and rightly so.
You have always been the voice of reason and I appreciate your posts and your dedication to David.
Can you move on? Sure, nobdy’s stopping you. Move on, be my guest. But I’ll keep saying what I think.
“I’m not so much interested in how David’s career fits into my needs .. I’m more interested in what David’s needs from me .. to get to the next step… and I’ll do what I can.. always and forever .. Amen.”
dawn, you are love.
How do I know? Because he hasn’t sold twenty-five thousand new copies of his album in the past month and a half.
dawn…
no plaid!
makes me glad
no scarf!
to make me barf
he looks great to me!
made me smile with glee
Thank you, thank you very much!
awww..sweetonda .. we’re all dedicated to him ..just in different ways. But thank you.
you can continue praepos .. by all means .. continue .. and I’ll continue doing the only thing I know how to do .. and that’s support David .. no matter what. It’s not my decision what or how his career is handled. It won’t do me one bit of good to whine and complain.
I guess if you can’t beat ‘em .. join ‘em comes to mind .. fortunately we have many TDCers .. who fly all over the place to go to multiple shows .. it kind of makes up for those unwilling participants.
Maybe I’m over the top .. I don’t know.. I’ve never been a fan like this of anything .. and perhaps I have a tendancy to overcompensate .. but none the less .. I’ll continue to do whatever it is I can do.
HOWEVER .. I WILL NEVER FORSAKE DAVID FOR MY OWN SELFISH REASONS.
Just because his management or label is sending him into a direction I may or may not agree with .. I won’t make the mistake in assuming they give a flying rats ass what I think .. and apparently ….neither do the other thousands of us running off place to place to support our boy.
I’m moving on….
SF .. you silly woman .. you are a poet and don’t know it. You WOULD find a reason to be happy with it … I’m nitpicking. Of course… I have to remember it’s summer.. and he’s in the desert .. and his voice is a little strained .. and he’s running just as fast as his little legs will carry him.
I will surrender my need to critique his choice of stagewear.
FOR NOW .. only because I love you so .. and I love David .. silly hoodies and all 8)
I actually enjoy hearing the screams on youtube. I’d rather hear the screams than hear him sing at this point--since the songs bore me to tears.
Listen, let’s face it--David’s appeal is to females primarily--and that’s what these fan sites are all about. For a guy it’s off-putting but necessary, given who he is. All the gushing, all the talk about what he’s wearing, all the rapturous focus on his physicality can be a bit much though.
I was also one of the few fans who didn’t much like the over-processed album, btw. I want to hear David’s voice showcased better next time. None of the songs seem to do that imo. I want him to do what he did best on AI when he sang Imagine and DLTSGDOM. The album illustrates his versatility, but not his genius.
Holy Moly .. well DAMN .. David is failing you in just about every way conceivable.. no wonder you’re all bent out of shape.
And I consider your first line …
I’d rather hear the screams than hear him sing at this point–since the songs bore me to tears.
SO INSULTING .. I won’t even respond to it.
With that in mind .. I bid you a fine good day sir.
TO YOU .. DAVID WILL NEVER REDEEM HIMSELF .. AND HE’S JUST FAILING TO LIVE UP TO THE POTENTIAL YOU’VE SET UP FOR HIM.
I can’t discuss this with you anymore.. ever.
Oh no..a hoodie? Is that what he’s wearing? Must be the one he wore at the Utah solo finale..
He loves them hoodies
In the photo, it looked like a white vest over a black tee!
I have been wanting to say this for 2 weeks.
Why do you, praepos, continue to urinate on our cornflakes? If you are so determined to repeat your negativity, why not take it where someone can appreciate it? You have sang the same sad song for 2 threads. We don’t really need to hear it anymore. We get your point and we disagree.
Abrra
“I’d rather hear the screams than hear him sing at this point–since the songs bore me to tears.”
“For a guy it’s off-putting but necessary, given who he is. All the gushing, all the talk about what he’s wearing, all the rapturous focus on his physicality can be a bit much though.”
This is just a rhetorical question,
…then why on earth are you here?
oh YES SF .. indeed the hoodie..from SLC solo tour. hahahaha
He IS original ..I will give him that.
And Dear David… if you do read this.. know that we IN FACT ..love you .. truly we do .. with every beat of our hearts .. well 99.9 % of us here at TDC.
Abrra .. lol @ urinating on our cornflakes.
I hope David gets to go home and chill for his next couple of days .. he’s just a little skip over the border now. He could use a little down time.. then it’s off to Colorado. Hmmm… I have family there .. I should mention it to them ..
Funny that you find me insulting when it’s the other way around--since it’s you who insult me by getting personal. I merely stated a fact: the songs are boring to hear over and over, no matter how well sung. I’m not bored with David, however, nor with his career trajectory. Have a good night.
All the gushing, all the talk about what he’s wearing, all the rapturous focus on his physicality
Guilty, Guilty, Guilty .. on all accounts.
And I’m not embarrassed or ashamed of it.
David once thought Cook deserved to win AI because he was the whole package.
Dear David.. your packaging is much prettier.
Abrra--Dang it, I just woke the house laughing at your comment, and I certainly can’t face cereal tomorrow morning with a straight face. Bless you for saying that!
Quick! Lock the door!

Pour your own milk
Seriously, this guy drops in from nowhere and starts ripping David’s career to shreds. That kinda talk doesn’t fly here too well.
Abrra
I’m urinating on your cornflakes? I thought I was expressing an opinion. In any case, pile on.
Well I am sorry if you feel like I insulted you .. but I’m not going to stand around on A FANSITE DEDICATED TO DAVID .. and watch you trash him over and over again.
Will never happen.. it’s one thing to bash Jive .. or his management company.. but DAVID chooses what he sings for his sets.. and the fact that he’s BORING you.. really really REALLY ticks me off to no end.
I’m sorry he’s not pleasing you. I hope beyond hope he doesn’t read this thread.
You clearly are bored with David.. actions speak louder than words.. well most of the time that holds true..but after reading your tyrants for the last couple of weeks.. I’m pretty sure your words are just as deflating.
Hey, how did I rip David’s career to shreds? Are you people for real? You sound like ten year olds. I said the tour was a setback. It is. That’s all I said. I also said the songs have gotten boring. They have. To me anyway. Doesn’t mean I don’t find his career fascinating to watch on a daily basis. But some of you need to be more tolerant of an older male’s perspective. And stash the personal attacks. Act your age.
Are you still here?
Abrra
Anyone ever hear the term Blog troll?
oh no .. you’ve gone from expressing your opinion to being quite condescending about a lot of things.
David
His fans
His label
His management
His CD
His song choices
and US … you’ve insulted US.
and wow.. if you think THIS is gushing.. you’ve really not seen anything… cause we can GUSH with the best of them.
Ordinarily .. this would make me want to boycott .. but instead.. it makes me want to dig my heels in even deeper.
This has gotten pretty crazy. Would I spend this kind of time arguing about David if I didn’t believe in him? And yes, the songs are boring--most of them are mediocre. Sorry, that’s my opinion--and one I think David would share in fact. He’s smart enough to realize the album was a rush job and pretty much done by the numbers. But he’s also a fine artist--and it’s that side of him that has yet to fully emerge. So let’s make some careful distinctions. I’m not trashing him or his voice--only the songs so far. They’re like eating candy--nice once in a while, but you don’t want to make a meal out of it.
Here’s a random thought…
I don’t really HAVE to do anything.
Dawn -- #266 -- Thank You -- I feel the same.
Praepos -- Stick to your guns if you have to about how you feel about this tour partnership. All of us here will never see eye to eye on anything concerning David and it is refreshing to have a strong voice of dissent. Many of us agree with a lot with what you have to say but at the same time you cannot get us all in agreement with you over certain aspects of this tour.
As for myself, I have learned to accept the things I cannot change and that includes love and support for David. I am only a fan and David has to make a living from one of the most complicated businesses around. Will we like everything he is involved with? -- no but unless it is something totally against my personal values I will support him all the way. We cannot browbeat you to support this tour and you cannot browbeat us to do otherwise. To each his own. If I am priviledged to have the means and the opportunity to support David in any tour efforts, I will. That is my committment to him.
You are also a fan and only you can decide what endeavor of David is comfortable for you to support. All I know is that tickets,VIP Passes, airfares and hotel accommodations have already been purchased by hundreds of fans and it is too late to turn back the hands of time for this particular tour. This is just the 3rd tour of David’s career so far. We can only hope that any lessons learned will be remembered and applied by his management/label for future tours.
changing topics slightly, praepos, i’ve admired how you always defend david on mjs blog.
on another note, video from jason’s lil sis, jackie. it shows her meeting david backstage and everyone out for dinner after the concert.
desertrat..saw that video a little while ago. She’s cute, but she & her friend seemed, to me anyway, to be a bigger fan of Demi’s than David’s..Oh well, they are after all, only 13-14 but think they are going on 20!
To be that age at this point in time..what I wouldn’t give to be able to spend the next 50 years watching as David continues on this incredible
journey..
Good night and for David..
Dear Lord,
Please take care of David.
Hey all! **ducking to avoid crossfire**
dawn you still here?
praepos -- don’t let the others scare you off. As long as you state your opinions respectfully, you have as much of a right as anyone else.
Although I agree his 1st album is not the greatest, you really should go see him live again. He is just so much fun live. It’s like he can make the generic shine. I can’t wait until he gets really, really good songs.
praepos, I love strong opinions. I have no problem when you said at #295 “the songs are boring–most of them are mediocre. Sorry, that’s my opinion” but it is a different matter when you say at #284 “I merely stated a fact: the songs are boring to hear over and over, no matter how well sung.”
Is it your opinion or is it a fact?
It is a fact that that’s your opinion, but it is not a fact that the songs are boring.
A healthy debate is just fine but a good debate can’t happen if one’s personal perception is stated as reality because then we are not even debating over the same thing. We all have different perceptions. I respect your opinions even if they differ from mine and I respect your standing by your opinions and I’ll leave it at that.
Finally, with np1107′s upload of ZERO GRAVITY, the LA TOUR PAGE is complete. Be sure to check it out!

New Post
Yay for the Zero Gravity upload! Thanks np1107 and JR! Finally!!!
I’m glad I live in the good ole US of A. Freedom allows us to express ourselves freely, something not found in many countries. However praepos, your freedom does not allow you to infringe upon mine. Your insistance to stand up for your opinion is fine but don’t tell me (or insinuate) that mine is wrong. I LOVE his songs (except for 2 and 1 of those I like since hearing him sing it live) on his album. All of his songs sound so much better since I heard him live. I guess my point is, maybe seeing him perform live might make you think, otherwise. If not, then maybe you like the songs (ie; DLTSGDOM & Imagine) and not the artist (???). For me, it’s definitely the artist -- David Archuleta. The whole package! He could sing “whatever” and I would love it.
As for the screaming at the concerts, I thought I would have a hard time with that. After the concert in Seattle, a newly acquainted friend commented on the screaming. I realized at that moment I had not even noticed it -- really! It was like I was on another plane (like when you meditate) or something. Don’t remember anything but his wonderful voice & how much it moved me (especially when he sang Apologize). That performance was special because it was just him & his keyboard (which seemed more like an extension of his voice than an accompaniment). Had to place my hand over my heart to keep my emotions from bursting out. Hard to explain. You would have to have been me.
Anyway, before you become disenchanted maybe you might want to consider attending a concert -- David Live not David/Demi.
bakyspritz -- no one is scaring any one off and i don’t think praepos is the type to be scared off.
In my case, when I requested praepos to move on -- after noting several times already, over a couple of threads, that his point has been noted and discussed thoroughly in previous threads and again addressed here -- was a more succinct way of saying that his message has become boring, if not counter productive.
Belaboring a point does not make such point stronger or more relevant, especially if no innovative and clear actionable solution is offered after repeated delivery of such message.
