Acoustic Bliss, SF’s recap
Let me start by saying that after this tour, I will not be broken-hearted if David never performs in a venue larger than 1000, ever!
He began the night by sharing with us his desire that we be able to focus entirely on the music in this, his first ever unplugged, stripped down, full length acoustic show. And ohmyheck, did we ever! Without the usual distractions, the main focus was clearly on just David, The Voice. I have run out of adjectives to describe his performances. Actually at one point he said it was fun not to have to “perform” and just focus on the music, so maybe he didn’t think of this as a “performance.” But at any rate, he was quite simply…outstanding!
His entrance to the stage was not grand. In fact, he walked in with the rest of the band as if they were going to sit and have a jam session with us. The band remained sitting for the entire show, while David mostly sat, but did sing some songs at the mic stand. He was happy, had fun and was definitely in his element. His vocals were in top form. His comfort level at the midpoint of the opening song, Touch My Hand grew as the 300 fans were loving it and by the end of the song, he seemed totally at ease and comfortable. The set list included most of the songs we are used to hearing, except for Zero Gravity and Barriers. BUT NOT LIKE THIS! He added all the riffs and runs we all love and his falsetto was perfection. The tempo on some of the songs was just a tad slower and sounded mellower. Stand By Me was his best rendition so far. The only two instruments were Dave’s bass and David’s voice. It was awesome! This rendition should IMO be on his next album.
For his first encore he sang Bubbly, and again it was perfect! Next he sang I’ll Be, not a shortened version, but the entire song. I don’t know how he does it, but he out did himself! His voice was flawless. This was a total surprise to me as I wasn’t prepared to love the song, but after David sang the entire song, I am loving it. I am so sad I only have it in my memory. He absolutely MUST sing it at one his solo concerts. Then the final song, the song he should always and forever close his concerts with, Angels.

Louisville setlist
As a VIP (more on that in a moment), I got early entrance, and was lucky enough to be standing directly in front of David’s keyboard. The stage was about 16″ off the floor so basically when he sat at the keyboard, I was eye level with David. He was about four feet from me. I could see the sparkly green color of his eyes. I could see the three beauty moles clearly on his face. I could almost hear him breathing as he spoke. I could have leaned over a little, reached out and touched his face. That’s how close I was to him. Well, not just me, there were a few others on each side of me that were close too, but I was directly in front of him! When he sang Angels, I could literally see his expression change to a heightened state of bliss as he went to wherever it is he goes when he sings this song. It was a sight I will not soon forget. The passion he exudes is beyond my comprehension at this point. I want to go where he goes when he sings Angels, Somebody Out There, You Can, To Be With You, and Don’t Let Go. We feel his passion, but the place he goes to is still a mystery to me. I just can’t stop reliving the whole experience from last night. I want David to schedule an acoustic tour in venues of 500 or less in the near future. This is the Real David. I love, love, love the explosive, jumping, running, David on stage, but this is about The Voice and therein lies the Magic!
The VIP, for 23 fans, took place in a club room situated in back of the HRC which was closed for the day and which also happened to have a baby grand piano. David was not supposed to sing for us but he did. Crazy was awesomely crazy! And Heaven was heavenly! He answered three questions, then had pictures taken. And then he was gone. It went by very quickly it seemed. Then we were escorted back to the HRC for a preordered lunch, hamburgers/cheeseburgers and fries. But I had to be different. I had a very nice salad with calorie-laden dressing, thank you! After lunch we were again escorted out a side door so that David could come in and do his sound check. At this point I decided to take my “goodie bag” to the car parked in the attached garage behind the HRC. As I walked to the back, who do I pass? David of course! Security is escorting him to the back entrance to the HRC. We thought he was already in the HRC. He smiled and waved when he saw me as I thought to myself… this is getting to be almost a regular occurrence. But it was no biggie… ahem!
After the concert, and after most of the people were gone, a group of us sat for a while a talked about how very fortunate we were to be there and also to be a part of “all this.” I met many new people again, and spent some time with some great ladies I knew from previous concerts, and who flew in from out of town, like KT, Deb, Lorna and Janey. And too many other wonderful people to name here. I’m sure I would forget some. I have no idea how I missed meeting prd9601?

Mike K. and SF in Albuquerque
Before I sign off, I’d like to share with you all one really cool and thoughtful thing that happened after the concert. Mike Krompass, who my sister Theresa and I had the pleasure of talking to in Albuquerque, and who actually recognized and talked with us at all the subsequent concerts we’ve been to, came up to me and gave me the copy of the written set list which they tape to the floor – as a memento he said. I was touched that he would do that.
So this is my recap of David Archuleta’s first ever acoustic show, here in my very own hometown, Louisville, Kentucky. I will be forever grateful it happened here and that I was able to be there. Thank you David for continually bringing me joy.
~Silverfox

Dear SF:
You have brought me out of my blog hiatus to say that your review is the absolute PERFECT definition of the heart of a David fan. Thank you for your beautiful and poignant concert review. Was it synchronicity that a very special, one of a kind, no vids, no pics, no cell concert was in your home town? IDK the answer but I am delighted that it occurred in your backyard.
Warmest thoughts and feelings directed to you in Louisville!!!!
Hugs, Love & Kisses to you my dear SF!
SF: beautiful recap as only you can do it, my dear!
And kizzi -- a delight to see you here.
SF- SO happy for you that you were treated to David uncluttered. Thank you for the beautiful (and thorough) recap. I am touched by Mike giving you the set list, it means a lot to me…and it’s not even me.
hugs, love and kisses from me too!
kizzi rocks.
happy rocks x 1000
oh my heck… thank you SF…. I really am pleased that this special concert was right where you live. You deserve this!!
“When he sang Angels, I could literally see his expression change to a heightened state of bliss as he went to wherever it is he goes when he sings this song. It was a sight I will not soon forget.” What a thing to see! I know you will always treasure this experience. Thank you for sharing it with us…I am sad that there will be no vids, but your recap gives me enough to imagine how beautiful it must have been.
I so hope that David will continue to do a variety of venues. I want him to fill arenas with adoring, screaming fans as well as the more intimate acoustic concerts. I am demanding> I want both! Actually….I only want David to do whatever it is he feels called to do.
Kizzi, **hello**and a big (hug)
When he sang Angels, I could literally see his expression change to a heightened state of bliss as he went to wherever it is he goes when he sings this song. It was a sight I will not soon forget.
kizzi and happy rock
and SF too.
hey spamming is fun
sorry Abrra… haha
SF, Thank you for the recap from your heart-- it fills some of the void in this Youtubeless Black Thursday.
Thank you silverfox for a great recap! For me (and countless others) who have never seen David nor heard him sing live, youtube videos and recaps are precious gems. I am praying the prayer for David you often posted here in TDC. By the way, is that you with Mike K in the picture with white hair? If you are, you look lovely. Hoping I could fly 10,000 miles to see David someday …. But he wrote a letter to me so that’s my precious memento now …
What a beautiful recap. Oh my! I am so happy for you and all who attended the Louisville concert. What a special young man he is and what a magnificent voice.
‘When he sang Angels, I could literally see his expression change to a heightened state of bliss as he went to wherever it is he goes when he sings this song. It was a sight I will not soon forget. The passion he exudes is beyond my comprehension at this point.’ This part brought on the tears. Thank you so much for sharing your wonderful evening.
hkzarla -- If I could very gently correct you: yes, that is SF with the SILVER hair standing next to Mike.
Reading this recap, I felt like I was there on your lap SF!

Et tu, refnaf?

Abrra
KIZZI!! How are you My lady?? Please…Does this mean you are back? Say YES!! We have missed you!
David’s is on right now in Rockford. I just saw a tweet that his opener did a cover of “Apologize”!! Unbelivable! Very gutsy to do a cover of a cover David owns, no?? ronaldsf is there so we should be hearing getting the scoop soon!
Liz, hkzarla, as my sister Theresa would say..”The hair sure looks White to me!”
then I would say to her, “At least I no longer have grey roots!”
refnaf, YJfan, renaid, wish you and all TDC family could have been there!
Going to check out the cellcast. Be back in a bit.
SF this was such a perfect description of the details of your treasured day. I am thrilled for you and feel as though I can imagine all that happened. I think you hit the Lotto getting to see Pittsburgh and now the Acoustic set from heaven. Wowzer. Can’t wait to hear more about it when we rendezvous in a couple of weeks. David and his music are joy.
I just had to leave lurkdom long enough to say to Silverfox that I honestly believe there is a reason good things “David” related happen for you. Your love for David is unconditional and real and I am so very happy for you that you were able to have this experience!
SF, between your beautiful recap and seeing Kizzi here, I feel like I’m dreaming!
“Was it synchronicity that a very special, one of a kind, no vids, no pics, no cell concert was in your home town?” … I’m with Kiz, it seems not only “meant to be” that David visited you at home, but also that you ran into him accidentally, not on purpose.
Thanks for every word, I can just about imagine it.
Thank you for sharing this SF! I’m so happy for you and everyone else who attended the special evening with David and his band. While I was reading your post, I focused on something that was four feet away from me and imagined being that close to David, listening to the VOICE. Wow..how all of you survived, I just don’t know!
I have to laugh at all of your surprise encounters with David. I am also incredibly jealous!
I believe you are officially a David magnet! If this keeps up, you’ll no doubt have fans trying to follow you inconspicuously!
Beautiful, beautiful recap, SF. Thank you so much.
“I love, love, love the explosive, jumping, running, David on stage, but this is about The Voice and therein lies the Magic!”
My sentiments exactly. Gosh. {{hug}} <3
SF thanks for the wonderful recap. I’m so happy for you.
SF, Thank you for sharing your experience of this epic show. Your description of the moles and the various expressions on David’s face was so vivid that I actually moved closer to the monitor as if to get a better look at them, lol. Then I almost reached out to see if I could touch him when you were saying how close you were to him. Even though I am sad that I was not there to witness this David in person or hear something, anything with my own ears, I am also very, very happy for you and all those who were blessed to be a part of it.
SF, Thanks so much for sharing this! How thoughtful of Mike to give you the set list.
SF: Your recap gave me the chills. There is definitely some synchronicity that happens between you and David. Thanks for letting us join you in that special event.
Kizzi {{{{hug}}}}
David just sang ‘Desperate’ and I am the HAPPIEST PERSON ALIVE! It was so beautiful. Thank you David!
SF -- Thank you for this touching recap. I have never met you, but I have been feeling your anticipation since Louisville was added to the schedule. David wanted something special for his fans and somehow it seems fitting that it took place where it did. Your respect for David and his artistry always comes through, and it is typical for you to express such gratitude for having been at this singular event, and to want fellow fans there too. Your recap was good medicine for those of us who couldn’t be there.
I just listened to “I’ll Be” on the cell cast And now “Desperate”—oh my! (There are rewards for being patient.)
I am still in tears. David knows exactly what to do the heal broken hearts.
Thanks for the comments! I still keep looking back and reliving this concert. I’m thinking it will be some time before David surpasses his acoustic performance in my eyes.
He sang “I’ll Be” tonight and I’ll be waiting and hoping it will be close to his acoustic version of “I’ll Be”.
I have had a total of about 5 hrs sleep in the last 48 hours! I am pretty wiped out! so..
Good night to all, and for David…
Dear Lord,
Please take care of David. Watch over him, protect him from all harm. Cloak him with your love and give him the strength to endure all that is thrown in his path. Give David the courage and guidance to say no to those who ask for more than he can reasonably give. Surround David with loving and supportive people who love him unconditionally as we, his devoted Archangels do. Separate David from those who have agendas other than for his well being. Give him rest when he’s weary. Give him the stamina to sustain his hectic pace. Give him assurance when he feels doubt. Give him joy when he feels sad. Cloak him always in your protective arms during this time on his journey. Keep David and and his voice healthy & strong as he fulfills his Destiny which was written in his Book of Life before he was born. And please Lord, give us, David’s forever fans, the wisdom to know when and how to do right by David. Open our eyes and help us in the way we support David so that it’s always in his best interests. May his positive and good Karma continue to attract those with positive and good Karma! May he continue to encounter goodwill and happiness! May he continue to be healthy and strong during this time in the summer tour with Demi. Keep David and his companions safe as they journey across this land of ours, AS WELL AS ALL THE FANS WHO ARE TRAVELING NEAR & FAR TO SEE DAVID IN CONCERT. Though we may be unworthy, we humbly pray. Amen
David, hope you have a good night’s sleep & sweet dreams on the road. Keep with you all our love, prayers and warm thoughts! We will always love you madly! If you are ever in need of help, tweet us an SOS and your Archangels will be there in a flash!
Contigo siempre con amor!
“DESPERATE”?! OMGOODNESS!
Oh WOW! I am speechless and CANNOT WAIT to hear from any and all the TDC who were there! But I really have to sleep now.
OH WOW! “Desperate”! I’ve been so desperate for David to sing “Desperate”!
Now he just has to read the “ONE” letters I gave him at the VIP and then sing the “ONE” at one of the last two solo concerts.
Sweet Dreams everyone!
Sweet Dreams SF.
WB Kizzi! You have been missed, lady.
SF -- What an amazing special night for you all! I am so happy you were able to be so close and that Dave gave you the set list. Now you just have to get a certain someone to sign it!
You made me feel the passion of his song and it must have been so incredible to be there.
David sang I’ll Be and Desperate tonight and even on a cellcast it was fabulous. Staying up for videos.
I see you have gotten over your shyness about being a groupie. It was no sweat right? Told ya so.
SilverFox…
I want to THANK YOU SO MUCH! I really needed this, your recap, your words to paint the picture for me and you did it! Boy did you do it…I’ve been scouring the net reading recaps, tweets, anything I could find…and they all left me empty, something was missing. I seemed to be reading just words, awesome, unreal, amazing, on and on, but with no detail to paint the picture I needed to fill this void I was feeling…you’ve have brought me to tears with such beautiful detail….Thank you again!
I’m so happy for you to have experienced this epic event…all this a coincidence…I don’t know…makes me wonder so many things and now you have the setlist good for you and wonderful of Mike, such a kind gesture, he is also special and genuine.
Get some rest and hope to hear from you soon…lots of love your way.
SF, I enjoyed reading your recap -- thanks!
“I want to go where he goes when he sings Angels, … We feel his passion, but the place he goes to is still a mystery to me.”
I’m sure this is one of the reasons why Dave F. (bass player) described David as “enigmatic”.
DESPERATE? WHAT? OMG!!!!!!!
DAVID IS A GENIUS! I LOVE HIM TO PIECES!
SF,
Thank You as DJA said for filling in the blanks of other recaps with crystal clear detail. I was close to tears when you spoke of the expression on his face as he sang Angels.
Get some much needed rest.
Gotta love this man!
Don Ashley: An Idea For David Archuleta’s Christmas CD
SF -- thanks for sharing
Kizzi, TDC is not the same without you. (((HUGS)))
DESPERATE
I’LL BE
SF you are the best! There is no such thing as coincidences. The special show, the first of its kind happening in Louisville, you and David running into each other, ending up right in front of David’s keyboard. I get chills. So happy for you.
Thank you for giving us the chance to feel, see, hear the show through you.
OK folks, ROCKFORD TOUR PAGE is now complete
http://www.thedavidchronicles.com/2009/05/rockford-il-august-06-2009
DESPERATEly waiting for all TDC’ers to wake up and see what goodies are in store. I’LL BE betting that your morning will be a bit nicer today. Enjoy
SF -- thanks for sharing your concert experience with TDC. You seem to have that special spiritual (not necessarily in the religious sense) connection. You know, like kindred souls. Anyway, it makes it all feel that much more special, down to every life altering detail -- “I could literally see his expression change to a heightened state of bliss as he went to wherever it is he goes when he sings this song. It was a sight I will not soon forget. The passion he exudes is beyond my comprehension at this point. I want to go where he goes when he sings Angels, Somebody Out There, You Can, To Be With You, and Don’t Let Go”
Maybe you have, you just don’t remember or that’s part of “going there”. Sorry, probably doesn’t make any sense.
Good morning! Thank you everyone for your great comments!
“DESPERATE”..David again living up to what he is..The Voice!
And if he hadn’t already made me die listening to him and loving him more but then I see he is WEARING one of the shirts I gave him in Louisville. Doesn’t he look great! ***sigh***
He REALLY DOES look at all his gifts & reads all the letters he’s given!
Yesterday, I was no good at work. Today I will be up in the clouds all day! Lord Help Me!!
JR -- thanks for the videos. Wow! That rendition of Desperate is unreal -- love it. The VOICE is beautiful and soul piercing. I thought his accompanyment on the keyboard was so good but then I don’t really know much about the talent it takes, so IDK. It just sounded so good to me.
Also that video @ #37 was intriguing -- Harry Potter-esque? I do love him as he seems so sincere and I think he’s big time ODD.
SF -- love his shirt. Nice. Those dark colors seem to enhance his looks rather than distract (like the plaids). You just might be destined to be his stylist. At first I thought it might be the one that you helped Dawn pick out.
fandforever,
I gave him a really nice white shirt too kinda like the black one. I figured he was running out of shirts to wear since he has been “repeating” the same ones too often. I gave him a black one & a white one cuz he looks great in both “colors”.
I just can’t believe he wore it the very NEXT night! WOWZEE!
See you later. Have to get ready for “work”.
SF, lovely post. idk, but I believe you DO go there, every time you see or hear or write or talk about David. Passion baby!
And that Desperate, I can’t believe what he did with it. He takes you on a journey with this rendition. It has blown me away. I love the CD version, but this one is amaazing!
And then, I’ll Be, never been a big fan, but David, you have just converted me! I DO NOT know how you do it!!
(Just wait until he gets reaaally comfortable with Desperate!!!
I hope we get to see this more!)
I just finished viewing the videos you posted for us! I brought my laptop with me to work since I can’t access YouTube on my work computer. I just could not wait til I got home to listen to David’s “Desperate” and I have listened over & over again! Now I’m desperate to see him LIVE again!
JR, THANK YOU so very much for having all the videos from each night’s concert ready for us when we wake up the next day. You are AWESOME! I love you!
SF, I know you’re probably busy for the next few days rewatching Desperate
but I’m dying to know what it was like having your family there at the acoustic show, and *inches closer* … what did they think??
TOfan, my daughter and grandaughter went, not with me as I was there earlier as a VIP. heh! They both work so they didn’t get there til halfway through the opener’s set (who was pretty good, btw, kinda had a Daughtry sound). So they were pretty much in the back and they are both shorties. But they could see and more importantly HEAR David. They both said he was really great, but they have always thought he sang great. I always told them how great he is live in concert and this was not going to be a typical performance by David. Which was fine with my daughter, as she is more into laid back acousticky music and R&B. My granddaughter is David’s age and she’s likes all kinds of music, depending on her mood. They think it’s great what David has done for me. They encourage me to “go for it” (see him) whenever and wherever I want. I think they both will follow his career after I’m long gone. So it’s all good.
Both my sons would have come too with their GF’s, but they both had to work. Which is why I had 4 extra tickets!
David is off today. Hope he has a good day, cuz heaven knows, he’s made it a great day just watching, listening and enjoying his videos from last night. Breathtaking!
SF #52: Could you please stop being so morbid (talking about when you are long gone…)? If you keep this up, I am afraid I will have to start praying for the prayer.
What a special concert to share with them, SF. I didn’t know about your extra tix, which is probably for the best if I want to keep my own job, lol.
And seeing how nervous David was about performing Desperate for the first time live, how heartwarming that he was cloaked in the all the love and care that you surely put into selecting his snazzy shirt!
YJfan, OK! No more talk of “after I’m gone”! Actually, David makes me feel young & more alive than I have felt in years!
TOfan, I mentioned on a post about the extra tickets and 10 seconds later I had several emails inquiring about them and they were gone!
About the snazzy shirt..I know now how Dawn felt seeing David wearing the Invisible Children T-shirt. It’s thrilling to see him wear something chosen just for him. He did wear a tee I gave him in Albuquerque but I only saw one photo of him wearing it.
SF -- Thanks for the beautiful post. I had read it several times. I have to know how you survived. Because I will be seeing David in person for the first time in 10 days. Solo. VIP. And then again the next day. VIP.
The first one in GR was a completely unexpected surprise as it was gifted to me. By one of the most beautiful souls ever to post here.
My heart has been racing for days now. I know that I will have the time of my life.
Betsy, Congrats! I just posted on the other thread that David has the best fans. Whos back-to-back VIP. Don’t forget to breathe now.
Oh SF! Just now posting, but I read your review just after it was posted. I could not wait for your summary of the concert because I knew it would be detailed and descriptive, which you did not disappoint. And YES he looks just gorgeous in that shirt.
While I was sad we would not see any postings from the show, a huge part of me was going, GOOD for you David! Taking control of your amazing talent, setting some rules and laying down the archulaw. Love it!
I was just wondering how David feels about having to go back to doing the Demi tour after doing his solo concerts especially after the back to back amazing solos he just did, then having to “open” again once, then two more back to back solos? That has to be hard for him. I know, I think too much! He always finds positive in every situation.
Good night to all, and for David…
Dear Lord,
Please take care of David. Watch over him, protect him from all harm. Cloak him with your love and give him the strength to endure all that is thrown in his path. Contigo siempre con amor!
I only read this review now, and I’m so glad you were able to hear his (historic!) acoustic concert!
And so appropriate that he did it in YOUR hometown! And so great that you were able to be so close to him in VIP, and that he recognized you!
Okay, not much substance to my post -- just gush. But yay!
Betsy, soooo happy for you!! And two back-to-back VIPs are a good idea, I think … the first one will likely be an out-of-body experience so the 2nd may just feel like you’re off to see an old friend.
And it’s a testament to David fans that when you mention a “beautiful soul” a whole bunch of people come to mind!
SF: Your review was a pleasure to read and the next best thing to the youtube videos we missed.
(And yes djafan, that’s exactly what I meant in my post #216 on Fan Relationships Part 1 when I said early in the post:
“No cellcast, phones, cameras or videos!
More power to David!
He’s finally owning his talent!
Although it’s too bad that we won’t get to see this epic show on youtube, I respect David’s decision. He is so generous to his fans; he communicates with us on twitter and blogs and vlogs more than he has to. We might not like his decision but we have to respect it.”
So I guess I called it early on in the last post when I said that it’s about time David owned his power. I was tickled that he laid down the law and made a decision to not allow cameras. It’s that he took control that made me happy, not that we wouldn’t see the videos. David is more than generous to us and has every right to say ‘no’ when he deems fit. It’s fascinating to sit back and watch him take control of his precious talent.)
SF, I agree with everyone here who says that it was no coincidence that David performed his first solo show in your hometown. I dunno what it is but you seem to have an uncanny connection with him. OMH, you even ran into him in the parking lot! Coincidence? I think not. I think it’s very intentional that the stars allign that way when you’re around him.
Regarding the “One” letters. SF, thank you for delivering them for us!
It was a labor of love to compile the letters. By the way, I printed each out on a separate page and each had a different typeface to make it interesting for David to read. I’m sure by now he’s read them and is thinking about how we feel about the song. I included a self-addressed stamped card for him to reply if he so chooses. If nothing else, we planted a seed. He’s so full of surprises and gifts that keep on giving. Maybe, just maybe “One” will be next. Fingers and toes crossed.
{{{Kizzi}}} Welcome back! Thank you for your wonderful videos!
