Top 10 Essential Archuleta
An Archie Handbook for New Fan Initiation
Anyone who knows my backstory as an Archie may recall that it was due to the insistence of the ex that we watch that singing show which eventually led to my discovery of David. It was all Joshua’s fault. (Well, of course, everything was Joshua’s fault — he is the ex, after all). Even though my fanaticism is a source of endless amusement for him now, he was compelled to acknowledge, after finally viewing some recent YouTube selections, a real and growing appreciation for David. Ha ha! Another one bites the dust! Joshua is also a musician, has always had terrific taste in music (especially pop music), and — like David — is one of the biggest Mariah fans on the planet. After just a few viewings, Joshua had this to say about David:
I can hear the emotional connection his voice can make really clearly, and I definitely get a spiritual kind of vibe from him. His pure heart is very evident. I think it’s great that someone like that has managed to make music a career, it’s so rare that someone with that kind of integrity reaches that position.
It’s always such a pleasure to witness new fans discovering the Archuletor and feeling the connection, that it got me to thinking about how one might program a new fan initiation…. What are the essential Archuleta moments so far?
With great thanks to TDC’s own inveterate video archivist, Marlie7, I hereby offer a Rascal Redux of the Essential Archuleta. These are all, except for one, live performances captured on video. And they are in chronological order, not priority order.
Essential #1: “Imagine”
It started earlier for many of us, “he had me at Heaven,” is a familiar refrain, but “Imagine” really set the bar — not only for David but indeed for the entire seventh season of American Idol. This performance captivated a nation, and even prompted a personal phone call to David from John Lennon’s widow, Yoko Ono. This is when it became clear that David not only had skills that were way beyond his years, but an ability to make heart connections through music that few performers ever achieve.
Essential #2: “Think of Me”
A personal favorite, the switched-up, slightly Baby-Faced version of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s love song from his musical, The Phantom of the Opera, is one studio cut (and an early one at that) which benefits from David’s inclination to produce more laid-back, prettier tones than he does in a live setting, where he drives for more intensity. This recording is not without it’s power, however. Check the astonishing combination of depth and clarity David achieves in the runs and long notes in the final measures of the song. Just remarkable. (This media has no video — audio only.)
Essential #3: “Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me”
It was something of a personal gratification for me to hear David perform Elton John because I had made that association very early on. I think between his soulful voice, his piano-man vibe, and his songwriting skills, the Elton John parallels may very well play out over the course of his career. This performance is essential for other reasons, though. American Idol is a pressure cooker, a grind, an extremely taxing enterprise for all the finalists, not to mention the final two. The expectations for both Davids were high, but Archuleta had stumbled once or twice, a few of his song choices were questionable, and the tide of both public opinion and aggressively-manufactured AI PR was rising in favor of Cook. Going into the finale, everyone knew that Archuleta had to bring it and leave it all on the stage. He surely did that and more with this stunning — and all-too-brief — performance.
Essential # 4: “Angels” Live in Tulsa 09.13.08
The irony of David performing onstage is that his live performances easily surpass his studio recordings (one of these days a producer will come along who knows how to get out of David in the studio what he is capable of in front of an audience), except that it’s actually taken some time for his skills as a stage performer to catch up with his skills as a vocalist. Near the end of the Idols ’08 tour, David had become comfortable enough to turn out this amazing, quintessential Archuversion of “Angels” by Robbie Williams. You can just feel him gearing and grinding and juicing the pulp out of every morsel of the song until, by the last third, there is nothing left and nowhere to go but up, and he levitates into the stratosphere with a musical energy that is simply breathtaking.
Essential #5: “A Thousand Miles” Hollywood, 12.06.08
What I wrote at the time this appeared is about the best I can say it, so here it is again: This performance of “A Thousand Miles” represents everything that is so remarkably appealing about David Archuleta. It is on the axis of what sometimes seem like opposing attributes: powerful and tender, sweet and virile, effortless and masterful. This piece is ideal for David’s strengths: soulful and longing, but with an unwavering sense of hope; like melancholy delivered with light. The rhythmic lyrics broken by long vocal lines are perfect for revealing the most exciting and impressive aspects of his instrument. This is a desert island track for me, because it sweeps me away from wherever I am and into a place where only David Archuleta can serve as host. And what a privilege it is to be his guest.
Essential #6: “O Holy Night” Hollywood, 12.06.08
There are times when David goes to a completely different place and takes anyone along who is willing to go there with him. The ability to make such an exceedingly difficult song sound both technically proficient and so simply drawn from the heart is a rare gift. This performance feels like an act of pure generosity.
Essential #7: “Don’t Let Go,” Starland Ballroom, Sayreville, NJ 02.26.09
The Sayreville show, early on in the schedule of David’s first solo tour, is acknowledged to be something of a watershed in the evolution of his performing power. There was a level of intensity combined with sheer abandon that hadn’t been seen before. Although there might be later versions of “Don’t Let Go” that could be slightly superior in certain ways to this one, it represents the first time David had allowed some real and genuine sensuality to saturate his performance.
Essential #8: “To Be With You,” Idaho Falls, 03.21.09
One of the only songs from his first album that can arguably be described as really being in David’s wheelhouse, “To Be With You” shows off his remarkable instrument to quite beautiful effect. It’s tough to pick a top performance because David is quite consistent, always fully present, and manages to give 110% almost all the time, but this one is certainly among the best.
Essential #9 : “Apologize,” Hartford, 06-21-09
I was still in Del Mar after the opening show of the summer tour when this appeared online and I watched it, open-mouthed, tears streaming, at least a half-dozen times in one sitting. One is invariably tempted to wonder whether the news reports of David’s father’s arrest which had come out earlier that week might have contributed to the emotion here, but in any case the intensity is quite stunning.
Essential #10: “Zero Gravity,” Sunrise, Florida, 08.01.09
The Zero Gravity performances are some of the most exciting and surprising ones to have come out of David’s ’09 tours. Something of an experimental addition at the first few shows of the winter tour, ZG quickly captured audiences with its bouncy club-track vibe and David’s jump-up, get-down, pop star delivery. Here’s a recent version at full-throttle.
I don’t expect this list will be without controversy (is there anything I post that is without some controversy?!). Are there competing lists of what constitute the essentials? — Bring ‘em on!
– Rascal

Nice walk down memory lane rascal!
I have a few “essentials” of my own. I will post later, after work. Videos are my passion. This is going to be a great thread!!
Abrra
Me likey….nice way to start the day.
Essential # 8 When exactly did he change the lyrics from “he will have answered every single prayer” to “he HAS answered every single prayer” ??
Oh this will be a great thread ~
Powerhouse connection ~ the voice the moves the entire place to somewhere they’ve never been before ~ and the tears ~ this is when David’s connection to his fans became magnified ~ his love affair with his ArchAngels begins.
I might have added “Stand by Me” from the Philippines and a version of “Crush” from somewhere. I’d have to make it a top twelve though because I wouldn’t be able to remove any from Rascal’s list.
Great way to start the day but boy my dog will be getting a short walk!
If anyone has time could they tell me how to make my avatar show up. I keep thinking I’ve fixed it…..
Rascal -- this is great! Thanks for putting this together -- it will be a fun thread for sure!
debra5354 -- I asked this question a few threads ago and was accused of being a pot stirrer -- ha ha ha
Very nice article with lots of memories!
For me, even though it was not technically one of his best, I will never forget David singing “Crush” on Ford Day. It was incredible to be in the audience on the day he first sang it live. He was really nervous. We had heard rumors the few days before that he might sing it. When he began to introduce the song, there was an audible gasp from the audience. I looked at Wanda and John from Archuleta Avenue on either side of me, all of us speechless and excited.
Whew boy, I love this article Rascal! What a wonderful buffet of David moments…it’s an Archufeast!
I’m sending the link to this article to all of my friends that have been teetering on the edge of David fandom. They’ll be goners for sure and at least they’ll know about this site to help pad their fall…
Rascal: There is something even more powerful about seeing these in one place, with your words to entice us to recall the moments we first encountered these videos. I don’t know if ten videos is enough -- perhaps we’ll need an Essential Archuleta Part 2 when this legion of fans pulls the very best from their personal archives.
Rascal, Thank you for your work putting together your Top Ten Essential. What a treasure trove.
Joner, It’s an Archufeast indeed — just wait until Funny Girl brings us the Companion to the Handbook: her own Top Ten Essential, selected for their VISUAL effects.
Hi Rascal…Sorry we didn’t get to see each other this past weekend. Spent a few days with my family and used the last two days of my trip that were supposed to be David days, in Ogunquit Maine. Very relaxing and lots of fun! It was great to see real rain after a dry five months and a thunderstorm or two to boot! Kind of reminded me of my childhood. (Don’t laugh, we don’t have thunderstorms…but you have to do something about the humidity!)
In checking info on line I saw where David will be at the ALMA Awards in Sept. in LA! I just signed up to do seat filling at that event through my connection in LA! So… I will be seeing David sooner than I thought! Maybe I’ll luck out and get to sit near or next to him!
The videos are a great way to have to go back to work…especially O Holy Night ‘cuz I was right in front of him practically passing out…
Hey all!
Dawn65 #4,
OMG, yes, yes! That July 14th SLC AI7 tour performance of WYSYLM was the first video that came to mind when Rascal asked for other memorable performances. That was David’s tearful rendition that sealed my fate to be forever under his spell!
Rascal, the set you came up with is worthy of being made into a cd, complete with the write-ups, then gifted to people with discerning musical taste. Heck, how can anyone not fall in love with our David after viewing and listening to this great selection?
Rascal, I sat down with a few minutes to catch up on ‘all things Archuleta,’ then when I realized what you’d done, went away to finish a few tasks so I could come back with more time and the right attitude. What a gift, you’ve given us!
Between your words and David’s gifts, I’ve had the richest morning full of cheers, chills and laughter.
I agree with Dawn’s choice for MY #11 and would add the SLC version of “Somebody Out There” as my #12.
And tears. Did I forget the tears? Nothing better than a good cry on a stormy day.
Angels in New Orleans.
A Capella, a small room in a mall, no mic, no warning, morning voice. Starts out quiet…midway through he’s feeling it and so are we. Bring out the kleenex.
David doing a Capella, of course!
Who can ever forget Prayer of the Children?
I can see this is going to be a David day…sneaking peaks at the thread all day long while doing my work, just to see the next video choice. There are a thousand moments of pure joy in these.
And here’s mine:
My very first post here on the TDC, and I’d like to say that nothing could be more fitting of this occasion than Rascal’s statement of “Another One Bites The Dust”. I had listened to David’s music before and had been subjected to hours of watching YouTube videos via Yahoo Chat with mild amusement. I would on rare instances look up a video just out of curiosity. I didn’t “Get It” then….OOOhhhh but I “GET IT” NOW! Six days ago, my sister was kind enough to take me to see David live and it was the beginning of the end the minute he took the stage. I was NOT prepared at all. She tried to forewarn me, she knew what would happen, did I listen? Of course I didn’t. I believed that artists such as Aerosmith, Nickelback, ACDC, Metallica, Iron Maiden, Rage Against the Machine and countless others were so ingrained into my persona that there was no way David would fit in. Shockingly, and mind you I’m still dealing with this, he’s not only “FIT” in … he’s taken Center Stage. The past few days I’ve been picking apart the internet, viewing countless videos and pictures, replaying again and again his charming smile and engaging laughter. His voice, once only heard through muted ears, is clear and constant now. I’ll admit I tried to stop it, to no avail. He’s in there now, and he’s clearly gonna stay there. So to you Rascal, you pegged me with your sentence. And to you Mr. Archuleta, Thank YOU for opening up whatever this is…
miloree: “Hi, my name is miloree and I have ODD”
Welcome to the club!
These words of yours brought tears to my eyes:
“His voice, once only heard through muted ears, is clear and constant now. I’ll admit I tried to stop it, to no avail. He’s in there now, and he’s clearly gonna stay there. So to you Rascal, you pegged me with your sentence. And to you Mr. Archuleta, Thank YOU for opening up whatever this is…”
Welcome, Miloree! ODD is really a grand thing. I’ve enjoyed every nanosecond. But be prepared. After one time seeing him live, you’ll need another. Just saying.
And Marlie, your video selection makes my list into a lucky 13 (and counting…)
archiesfan4life # 7. But did you get an answer? He did change the lyric yes? How is that being a pot stirrer? Did I miss something while on vacation?
I’m gonna love this thread. Watchin David sing is balm to my soul.
Rascal—Wowzers!! Thank you for this wonderful tribute! Right, we may all have our own personal favs of songs and videos, but you certainly did well with these. Thank you again. I can go to work smiling today. I dreamt about David last night (can’t remember anything about it other than we were having some fun conversation) and then I “got” to read your post and see David perform--albeit YouTube, but it works.
hiho hiho it’s off to work I go.
debra5354 -- I will try to find that thread where I first asked this question -- someone else (I can’t remember who) also asked about it. I think we were called “pot stirrers” b/c we were thinking David may have been trying to tell us something????? I am not trying to start anything you understand LOL. When I find that thread, it will tell you when he changed the words.
miloree -- welcome -- life will never be the same now, but I assure you that you will never want to go back to life BD (before David).
Thank you Rascal. I was trying to stay off the internet tonight in an attempt to get my wake/sleep cycle back on track, but your post has given my insomnia a reprieve.
My only addition would be ‘Shop Around’ which Marlie/#18 already linked to. And for essential viewing, while ZG became an energy charged number by the time David hit about the 4th show on his solo tour, there is still something very special about his performance in Columbus during that tour. For me, this was the first time David brought out the sass, stopped thinking about how he was moving on stage and just had fun.
Welcome to TDC miloree
I love this thread so much ~ it invokes nothing but positive feelings ~ and we need that on the heels of a severe drought that will be thrust upon us.
mikesd ~ please make sure you come back and recap right away ~ I’m so excited for David to be able to perform there ~ and be an honoree for Male Rising Star.
I think Rascal’s list will definately expand. It’s mighty hard to narrow these things down to a short list though.
Rascal did do very well though ~ very impressed ~ and the trip down memory lane ~ as the journey begins ~ is always so melancholy.
I’m glad he’s getting to where we knew he’d go ~ but it’s hard watching the babybird spread his wings ~
This is a pretty recent performance from Pittsburgh, July 28th,
his very first live cover of Bubbly which created an internet buzz. The video is self explanatory as David relates the story behind the decision to sing this song, and I just can’t believe how flawless he did this with a little practice just before the show. You can also see how into the song he was, and even if it isn’t a vocally challenging song to sing, he totally made me feel the message of a song that didn’t catch my attention before. Well he’s done that several times now…
I love the improvisation he did during the instrumental part which is memorable to me since there was a thread here where an experimental dual playing of its MGR’s resulted in a very interesting polyphonic David!
P.S. I started sensing from this time on how extra inspired he was ever since he tweeted the previous day that he especially enjoyed singing Crush, like he was hinting at something. Then the lyric change in TBWY happened. Then the surprise performance with his friend from Utah. Then his latest vlog… Hmm, I wonder.
debra5354 -- I found it! The first time I noticed the change was the July 28th Pittsburgh solo tour.
debra5354 & archiesfan4life,
I didn’t see your posts until I posted mine ‘coz I was thinking hard and long if I should include the P.S. part. Gosh, now I feel like a pot stirrer! But I just had to get it off my chest. He changed the lyric of TBWY the same show he first sang Bubbly in Pittsburgh. Check out the comments on the YT link here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Quzb_mFEbQI
Rascal, this makes me so HAPPYYYYYYYY! Thank you for this! {{{{Huggg}}}}} I think we could spend weeks right here! (I hope we do!)
I LOVE your selections and, of course your commentary. Makes me giddy to go through them! And it is so much FUN to think of things to add to it. (Marlie, yes, Shop Aroooouuuuuund fer SHER!) Just concentrating on the magnificent je ne sais quoi of David Archuleta is/can be a full time job.
I’ve only skimmed the thread — don’t have time to give it the attention it deserves today (dang!) I wanna SAVOR this! (:
Miloree, welcome to the ODD-ery! There’s almost NOTHING that makes me happier than that distinctive *Thud!* of a New Fan!! Yesssssss!
Must run now! *poof!*
Rascal,
How sweet it is! Just when the tour ends you post this delicious confection. Can’t wait to get home from work to enjoy all the goodies. What a beautiful thing you’ve done here. And what an awesome body of work for one so young and only on the scene a little over a year. Whoever watches these videos and does not grasp the magnificence of this amazing young man is beyond reaching. They need to go lie down cause aparrently, they’re dead and just don’t know it yet.
Wonderful selection of these essential performances. I would add to my own collection the performance of Zero Gravity in Sayreville. I love the subsequent bouncing around, but the contained passion, raw sensuality, and for lack of a better word, cause they fail me..fury? of that performance was a heart pounding rush. Also his debut performance of Desperate was thing of sheer beauty that will stay with me forever.
Angelica,
You must mean this from Rockford:
I saw David four times over the summer, two were VIPs. It was such a fun, exciting, exhilarating, and at times, stressful (Miracle in Milwaukee) experience. It was also invigorating -- I actually jumped clean out of my sandals during Zero Gravity in Rosemont and almost twisted my ankle, and in Grand Rapids, if it wasn’t for GEMZONE giving me a gentle nudge to propel me in the right direction (thanks GEMZONE!) I would have hopped in reverse all the way down the center aisle! I never knew it was so dangerous to be David’s fan!
I was actually thinking to myself it was good that things were winding down for a bit so I could tend to other things and regenerate before the next wave hit, but now that the tour is over, I feel like something’s missing. Why do I suddenly feel like I lost my wallet? I sit on my hands and wait for his tweets. WTH is that about?
Oh miloree, *shakes head*, you have no idea what you’ve just gotten yourself into. Start taking your vitamins, you’re gonna need ‘em!
Ah Rascal.. just what I needed when faced with a temporary drought! I’m on the run but would also like to submit, when I can, the winging it rendition of Bubbly. Who else could decide last minute to toss a song out there that had not done before and do it perfectly. It was a warm and bubbly performance just like David. Kudos to Kendra for.. well.. lots of things. I am also hoping someone from the Louisville acoustic concert will submit a favorite. Personally, all of Sayerville sealed my doom to OCDD.
Pot-stirrers? LOL I don’t remember that, but inquiring minds want to know why he changed the lyrics. Hmmmm.
Here it is embedded:
Thank you ascphil!
Rascal, Can I also just give a shout out for that huge photo up there? That face with that crooked smile. Be still my foolish obsessive heart.
THAT FACE
Music by Lew Spence
Lyrics by Alan Bergman & Lew Spence
That face, that face, that wonderful face;
It shines, it glows all over the place.
And how I love to watch it change expressions;
Each look becomes the prize of my possessions.
I love that face, that face, it just isnπt fair.
You must forgive the way that I stare.
But never will these eyes behold a sight that could replace,
That face, that face, that face!
I see that face, that face, wherever I go;
Itπs here, itπs there, bewitching me so.
Itπs got my crazy heart in such a tangle;
It drives me simply wild from any angle.
I love those eyes, those lips, that fabulous smile.
She laughs and spring goes right out of style.
And oh, the thrill I feel each time my fingers gently trace
That face, that face, that face.
Oh, what a face, that face, it lights up a room,
Intoxicates like heady perfume.
No painter or photographer could catch it,
No rainbow or no sunset ever match it.
Beneath the moon, the stars, and under the sun,
Asleep, awake itπs second to none.
What view completes my universe
Transcending time and space?
That face, that face, that face!
Of course, replace the “she laughs” with HE laughs.
Angelica ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Marlie made a fan video using that song. Perhaps she will be kind enough to link it here for all to enjoy ?
Abrra
My favorite video is the Solo Tour Reno, NV “Works For Me”.
This song has been sung countless times by David. This bluesy intro is done on the fly. I don’t believe he has sung it like this any other time. He played with the beginning then began the song when he was good and ready! David loves singing HIS songs and it shows. WARNING this is close up at the start. De fib’s at the ready!
Best parts for me are the beginning and the end. Don’t miss the end!
/SWOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONNN
Abrra
Oh, Abrra, I know how many good videos you have, and that you have scoped out your own best-of-the-best…..this will be fun!
Marlie
Can you link your fan video of That Face?
I have downloads but no link to it.
Many of the ones listed here are on my essentials list.
Abrra
Here is the page that contains the video of That Face. I was never able to upload it to youtube because of copyrights on the song. So it is a TDC exclusive
http://www.thedavidchronicles.com/2009/07/that-face/
This thread makes me profoundly happy.
I just have to add this as the single most unforgettable live performance of his that I’ve ever witnessed. This was never a favorite of mine til I heard him sing it live when he was in Manila. On his album, only three songs made me tearful, and this wasn’t one of them. It gave me chills and uncontrollable tears during the concert.
Angels in Manila Live. (there was irreverent laughing & giggling audible in the beginning, maybe from non-fans, but towards the middle of the song, they were gone, then thunderous applause at the end!)
Somebody singled out his Stand By Me performance in Manila as well, which was a wonderful surprise for the local fans:
Just dropping by to say hi to all… I’ve been on vacation and going through severe David withdrawals…lol Trying to catch up on so many videos and posts.
Rascal….love this post!
I see some new names….how fun….welcome to the mix.
Ahh, Marlie, that video is love. I never get tired of watching it. Sorry for not mentioning it when I posted the lyrics. Thankfully, Abrra had the grasshopper’s back.
You know I have to do it don’t you? Sayreville ZG by our own djxox.
#7 ATTENTION: archiesfan4life and katsue6583
I AM THE “POT-STIRRER” POSTER!!!
Submitted on 2009/07/29 at 12:06pm
#324 archiesfan4life and #329 katsue6583
Like there is not enough drama going on around here and now you two have to insinuate that someone has stolen David’s heart and we don’t have a shot at him!
Pot Stirrers!!! LMAO!!
Did you really take me seriously??? LMAO!
I guess you’ll have to get used to me.
Tongue + cheek = trouble
*waves* at friendly fire.
I play this game often, but can never come up with just 10! And I can never get by without including “Long and Winding Road” and “Love Me Tender” in the list. LAWR showed us all just what a fighter he was and LMT just what a lover. All part of his progression!
joner #47 -- I knew you were just kidding -- please don’t think I was serious either -- I thought what you said was funny only I couldn’t remember who said it -- sorry.
However I do agree with marlie #35 -- pot stirrer or not -- I still wonder why he changed those lyrics -- ummmmmm:)
I so seldom post and I don’t want to offend anyone here -- this is my second home (some days I think it is my first!)
{{{archiesfan4life}}}
momJulee -- Totally agree with you on Long and Winding Road! The fact that he came back after the previous week’s debacle really showed his guts! I remember holding my breath through that entire performance and the audience was SOOOOOO supportive afterwards! *sigh*
However…
if it were at all possible, if there were any videos of David’s Louisville Acoustic performances, I believe you all would agree with me that those will stand as some of the best performances of his career. That they took place at the beginning of his career with no video or audio recordings is a huge loss. I still can’t quite believe there wasn’t some kind of hidden camera set up by David’s mgmt. His Stand By Me with Dave’s bass as his only accompaniment was phenomenal. This one in Pittsburgh is a close second…
Awww, rub it in Dee!
It sounds like there were probably some VIP experiences that were like that as well. I agree completely with the a cappella Angels at the radio station BTW.
the first part of my post #51 didn’t show up..
rascal, I agree with your video picks and recaps. I don’t have a favorite performance by David or video. There are just too many and they are all so good..However…
Good night everyone! Really enjoyed all the videos posted here today..but can’t decide if it makes me feel better or worse about this lull time!
Hi momJulee…no worries. I really believe David will do more unplugged, stripped down, acoustic sessions in small venues. At least I’m hoping!
Hi Rascal!
Great article and great picks. I have to agree with my bff Marlie about Shop Around! That performance would definitely be on my top 5 list. I remember where I was and my exact words when I saw that for the first time: “Who is this guy and what decade is he from?”
Thank you Rascal, for a very inspiring and fun-filled post. I’ve often thought of compiling videos for the Archunewbie; glad you got to it first. haha
I’m gobsmacked at all the amazing performances David has given us in the last year. It’s chilling to think that ‘the best is yet to come’.
If I was forced to choose the one video that gets to me like no other, I’d have to agree with Dawn65 #4 and her selection of SLC AI7 tour performance of WYSYLM. I’m surprised the video isn’t showing signs of wear for all the times I’ve watched it. David connected with the audience like a magnet; it was a cryfest of joyful tears as the audience made David cry and in turn, he made them cry, too. I have never seen such outpouring
emotion from an audience to their artist and from the artist back to his audience as in that video. I only wish I had been there to see it live.
Why do these old performances bring tears to my eyes now, everytime I watch them? Must be because we’ve witnessed the progression from reality show contestant-superstar in the making to full-fledged superstar!
miloree#19 Welcome to TDC and Archumadness. You have one very smart and generous sister! *wink*
djafan#45 Welcome back from vacation!!! You’ve been missed!
My pick for an addition to the essential Archuleta is: AI7′s finale performance of “In This Moment”.
MomJulee- oh yes! Love Me Tender was the one that moved me into the stratosphere. the studio version was so sublime I could barely comprehend it, but the performance on Idol moved me as I had never been moved. “Romantic love song on the big stage” he said, no kidding. It became the biggest stage in the world for him, catapulting him into millions of hearts. Even Elvis would have to give that a nod. Brilliant.
And mikesd -- how lucky you were to BE THERE for the O Holy Night performance. That has to be one of the most moving musical events that I’ve experienced.
Yes, please do let us know how the seat-filler duties at the award show goes. Can’t wait to hear!
Excellent compilation, Rascal. And one of these days, we’ll have to make an Essential Archuleta CD featuring these very selections.
I truly love this thread. Being new to the overwhelming ODD, I just cant get enough. I was wondering how anyone could become a TRUE Archuleta fan without being exposed to his non-performance side. The “goshes” “dangs” and “ummms” can’t be looked over….nor can his irresistible laugh. David is like a layer cake. You know that you’ll like it by looking at the outside, but its not until you experience every layer that you know the bliss of it.
You sneaky sneakers with the Sayerville ~ you know it’s my immortal weakness forever and always ~ Sayerville will go down as my favorite show EVER ~ and I’ve been to some humdingers ~ but that one ~ ahhhh ~ hence ~ the only time David lost his composure ~
I keep coming back every now and then to see who posted what (this is so much fun), and I am sitting here with a huge grin on my face….feeling kind of foolish, actually. LOL
Rascal…I had not seen the #9 Apologize performance. OH MY HECK…..I’m really at a loss for adequate words. That performance left me exanimate.
Great idea of having a Top 10 List, Rascal! So great, that I just happened to be working on my own list as well!
But no worries, I’m not mad at ya.
Because nothing stops me from sharing my own list!
This is my list of “10 Favorite David Performances.” I tried to look at interpretation and performance, and tried to choose a diversity of genres that could showcase David’s many and varied talents. Okay, so here goes!
In chronological order:
1. “O Holy Night” (December 2007)
I also love the version David did at the Tree Lighting ceremony a year later, but my heart is still with this version because it was somewhat simpler, sweeter, and more restrained. Corporate rudeness aside (and two people apparently need to get a room), if you close your eyes you can block out the crappy video quality and hear something divine.
While many other singers choose to power through “O Holy Night,” David opts for subtlety and emotion. When I hear other versions I don’t get the feelings of awe and wonder that I do when I hear David sing this.
2. “Shop Around” (American Idol Top 24 Week)
Ooh, I love this one. The Soul Man from Utah puts some real doses of old-school soul and blues in his vocal that we haven’t seen quite as much of since. I especially love his bluesy “me” the very last time he sings “My mama told me!” Although the original version by Smokey Robinson and the Miracles was classy/cool/chic Motown, David’s vocal could perhaps be dated 10 years later, after Aretha and Tina and other artists had given black music a funkier edge.
3. “Smoky Mountain Memories” (American Idol Top 9 Week)
Dolly Parton said it best when she said she could feel the “exact same emotion” she wrote into this song when David sings it.
Can you imagine what it must have been like for Dolly to hear her heartfelt song sung back to her, in a room with only a piano and The Voice?
Although sadly the American Idol version is not the complete song (the lyrics tell a whole story), David makes up for it by taking the song into the stratosphere in the final 10 seconds. Of all of David’s AI performances, it is these last few seconds that I can’t watch without feeling chills all over again.
4. “Love Me Tender” (American Idol Top 4 Week)
David’s reinvention of the Elvis classic is completely fresh, soulful, and new. It demonstrates David gift with melody and the power and flexibility of his voice. I especially like songs like this, in which David takes a soft tone that is almost a whisper and “pushes” it into something strong, rich, and full. Were it not for the machinations, drama, and story-of-the-week atmosphere of AI, David’s interpretation could have entered the pantheon as another classic. That day may still soon come…
5. “Crazy” (MyFoxUtah)
Once again, here is David taking a song, “finding its meaning,” and completely reinventing it while giving it his own unique voice. I dare say that his take on the song suits the lyrics more than does the original, and David it gives the vocal this sexy, modern R&B styling that was so hawt that AI had to censor it from the airwaves to keep David in the “Ballad Boy” box they tried to make for him. (Sorry, but I think that the explanation that the world’s biggest TV show couldn’t secure the rights to replay a song does not give us the whole story.)
6. “Angels” (Tulsa, OK)
David is known for being completely absorbed into his performances, but here he is completely at another level, combining power, passion, and abandon.
My favorite moment? At 1:51, when David sings “I look above!” and looks up toward some distant point above him. From that moment on, David knew he was going somewhere special.
7. “Imagine” (Tree Lighting Ceremony)
I was about to list David’s first AI performance of “Imagine,” but since Rascal already I listed it I looked at some of David’s other versions of it. That got me to rediscover David’s Tree Lighting ceremony performance. Here, David has time to sing the whole song, and you get to hear some of David blending with the guitar and giving it a soul/folk interpretation that I just love.
I cannot wait until David has more song material that suits his tremendous talents. Give him some great material and a microphone, and he will move mountains.
8. “Somebody Out There” (Salt Lake City, UT)
In my opinion, David’s most romantic performance to date. What a pleasure it is to hear David sing a song that he himself wrote, and pouring every ounce of sincerity he had while writing the song into every phrase. And I have never had the experience of hearing a sound that so closely resembles receiving a sweet kiss, as David’s last few seconds in this song.
9. “My Girl” (Malaysia)
Oh, I love happy David! David was in a good mood, and you could hear it in David’s jazzy, light, completely fun rendition of “My Girl.” A moment when David feels completely—I mean COMPLETELY—free. David can be brighter than a thousand spotlights.
10. “Bubbly” (Pittsburgh, PA)
What a rich performance! Every sound is chocolatey goodness, as it is clear that David made sure that every moment in the song could be felt as he feels it. By replacing soft with loud, loud with soft, and words with sound, David brings a touch of jazzy imagination and makes what was already a sexy pop song into a sensual, undulating experience.
And I can’t sign out without giving mad props to—once again—David’s final phrase. When I first heard him sing that very last “Wherever…” I shook my head with a big grin on my face. He mixes little runs in and moves those syllables around in a way that is completely surprising… yet perfect. So much musicianship and mastery in that one little moment.
OMG this thread is fantastic. Rascal, we have to figure out a way to keep this available for “newbies” and to link to our friends who are just starting to “get David.” Maybe you need to design a new sidebar widget (hint, hint).
I have been incredibly busy this past summer, but I must delurk for this post. First of all, thanks for this post, Rascal! As always, your insight is spot on. You have always had that perfect way of expressing in words what I know and feel in my heart.
This may have already been mentioned, simply because I haven’t had time to read through the entire thread, but another Archumoment for me was the WYSYLM from SLC from the AI tour. “Look what you made me do!” Yeah, he had me with “Heaven” but “Imagine” sealed the deal. Been hooked on this ride ever since and I don’t ever wanna get off!
And silly me, after reading down past the first 3 comments, I found Dawn’s post (#4) with the exact video that I was talking about. That one just tears me up every time I see it!
(LOVING this thread!!!)
Just wanted to say that isn’t it amazing the SHEER NUMBER of performances we’ve been able to cull from David’s portfolio?
How many artists can we name that have as many awe-inspiring moments? And he’s only 18!
ronaldsf: LOVE your top 10. I had completely forgotten about Imagine at the Tree Lighting till you posted it. Absolute perfection! Thank you!
ronald, yes to your list plus my all time favorite You Can, Good Day Utah. This was the morning of his last show of the solo tour. I was sitting alone in a hotel room at the back of the E-Center and cried my way through the entire performance.

Bye and Good Night!!
Rascal, thank you for your gift of this thread. I have already favorited so freaking many of these! Ronald, what can I say, your top 10 rocks. You and Rascal..cut from the same cloth, great communicators…love both of your descriptions.
Thanks to everyone for reminding me of some gems I had forgotten about.
Just a couple of my favorites; don’t know if they would necessarily qualify as must see for new fan initiation, but
a couple of my favorites (and please excuse the lame descriptions.)
Albuquerque Medley, has this real relaxed groove goin’. Think Lupe was with him on this leg of the tour.
Your Eyes Don’t Lie Beaumont, a soulful, raw energy.
So I mostly lurk here as most of you know. But Joner #33 you were jumping away from David not towards him. lol I knew that you would have hated getting any farther away from him so I just nudged you back in the right direction. It was so fun meeting you Freo and Batsy there. You guys are the greatest!! I really love this group at TDC.
(Ok I have to say this because it has bothered me from the beginning I hate typing TDC because of David Cook DC reminds me of him. Sorry I know that David loves him and I like him ok so I try to like him. I just can’t sorry had to get that off my chest. Feeling better now.)
Back to Grand Rapids it was an amazing concert. He was so excited to have his voice back and to also be in a smaller venue.
About Rascals list I agree with all he said and then some I have about 30 videos that I watch over and over again. But I was in SLC when David sang WYSYLM and cried and I think that it is my all time favorite because I cried then and I still cry when I watch it. Love this young man!!
{{{HUGS}}} To all members of the David Chronicles!!
This has really been a fun day not only catching up but going down memory lane…
So far I’m like everybody’s favorites and seem like good choices for fan initiation…I would like to add these as some of my favorites.
Somebody Out There….Minneapolis
The beginning of this is so haunting, showing that amazing musicality David has…
You Can….Los Angeles
I was there for this one, I think it’s his most powerful performance and audience connection of this song.
Waiting For Yesterday….Grand Rapids
Love this song and this performance, shows he can rock out with the best of him.
Como La Flor….Pomona
I was also there for this one, this one shows his latino roots and how easily he can go from one genre to another including another language and he sings this beautifully, I know being a latina and all.
bebereader…thank you…good to be back!
mikesd….I’ve been submitting my name to see if I win some tickets….but I’m going to bold and ask if your contact needs any more seat fillers I am more than available (desperate)….lol
Silverfox #51 Ok just knock me over with that Stand By Me. How could I have missed that one. Oh my gosh!!! That one is for the record books! He is sooooo gooood… Oh my heck what just happened. I don’t think I will ever be the same again. Going back to watch that again. Might not ever see you guys again. Oh well nice knowing ya!
Janey #70, thank you for that video of You Can! Is that a rarely seen video? Because I haven’t seen it before…
ronaldsf, since it was only broadcast in Utah perhaps only the locals saw it? What else haven’t you seen?
Add to my list Ford Day Imagine, Hospital Angels, Rockford Desperate and Seattle TMH. k, I’m done.
on vacation thus slight change in user name -- same fanda, though. Agree with Dawn on #4 WYSYLM -- all time tear jerkin song.
mikesd #12 -- always wondered about the affect that song (O Holy Night) had on the audience cuz they seemed strangely subdued after. Now I know. Thanks, that totally makes sense.
OH MY OH MY!! What a thread! A huge thank you to you rascal. I’m gonna need a whole weekend to savor this one. Yummy yummy yum yum. So many goodies here! Been so crazy busy at work (and will continue to be) to jump in on the fun with everybody. But quickly, ronald, love your top 10 too and all the reasons why you love them!
Good night ya’ll lovely people! This thread makes me haaaaapppyyy!
Would like to add JB Sacramento TMH for breakout performance and You Can for first emotionally moving performance. Love that concert.
Also, Imagine LA tree lighting has always been a favorite; My Girl in Malaysia Interview; Angels AI7 Tulsa; DLG Malaysia, Sayerville (actually, this performance was a “how to save a life” personally, so should be #1 on my list); CUN Prayer for the Children; My Hands Seattle (favorite performance at the only live concert attended). Love my crappy videos momentos, just not good enough to share. Too many hands waving & heads bobbing up & down.
Oh no you didn’t RASCAL! I thought this week would be a brief break. You know… focus on work & RL and then BAM! You throw this bait! GAH
Great choices, btw
But I have to agree with MOMJULEE @ #48
1. The Long & Winding Road -- I find this to be an oft-overlooked performance, perhaps due to David’s deceptively simple interpretation.
His rendition was quiet, nuanced and remarkably subtle that unknowingly, you are pulled in and compelled to listen to its melodic plea & receive the full impact of the song’s poignancy.
Given that he performed this at the heels of the ‘We Can Work It Out’ week, the parallelism between the song’s back story (Paul M’s sorrow at the prospect of The Beatles breaking up) and David’s precarious status (only in his mind of course) in the competition was hard to ignore. David truly knows his music & its related history so as a Beatles fan, I appreciate his intelligent approach to this song.
But most admirable of all was the restraint he commanded over this Beatles classic. It showed uncommon valor and artistic maturity. If only to banish the memory of his mis-step in the previous week (hehe), doing a tour de force number was a much easier option but predictable. He could have peppered a song with all the melisma he could play up.
Not our David. He handled the song with finesse and the respect it deserved, thereby paying tribute to one of the most influential & critically acclaimed bands in the history of popular music.
TLAWR never sounded SOOOOO good. Have held him in high esteem since then.
2. Love Me Tender -- Oh boy! Nothing I think could faze this kid. 1st Lennon, then Elvis.
Unvarnished plus bare bones, David’s LMT performance evinced a deeper soulfulness, sensitivity and sensuality than ever before. His smoky vocals and sigh-inducing delivery (not to mention the uber close-up provided by the cameraman) chiseled an instant heartthrob out of this self-confessed dork.
Tweens move over. He is for every all!
Intensity 7 was felt by the ArchuWorld that LMT night!
I have one more DA Essential to add, but just like the Louisville gig, we do not have a public recording of this particular performance --3. Hollywood Week’s CRAZY.
It’s been said that this version was jaw-dropping. His rendition was slower than how we have seen post-AI and that David did it in a lower key so his lovely but intense lower registers just gobsmacked everyone in the auditorium. He probably based it on a cover by — aah, the name escapes me now!
So yeah, that’s my 2 cents worth. Break is over, have to go back to work. CYL!
Good morning everyone! Ronald, I like your top 10 list too, but I do think there’s a difference between having a top 10 list of our favorite David moments and having an “Essential Archuleta” top 10 list, as Rascal put it.
Some things are just personal faves, others are essential to understanding and getting who and what David is about.
For example, my favorite David performance of all time (excluding “Heaven”) has got to be “And So It Goes.” It’s perhaps the most underrated performance of his, and it’s one that I don’t expect to see on anyone’s top 10 list, but on a personal level, this song and performance haunted me and sent my ODD over the top. It created no buzz, it didn’t get the fanbase swooning, and yet -- and yet -- I love, love, LOVE this performance.
However, I would never consider it part of an “Essential Archuleta” list. It’s a quiet little performance that hopefully most Archies will one day discover or rediscover. What I like about Rascal’s selections is that they are the key performances that David has delivered, which have generated either media buzz or fan buzz. The consensus is, these are the major performances that a fan, who wants to get an introduction into David Archuleta, should see.
Our various top 10 personal favorites will always have variety, but when it comes down to it, there are some performances that will always, always show up on our lists.
His first “Imagine.”
Tulsa “Angels”
Hartford “Apologize.”
His finale “Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me.”
There may be room for debate on other listings (for example, “Crush” really needs to be on the list, considering it’s his debut -- and my personal favorite David moment has to be his listening to his recording at the Z100 station), but some performances really are “Essential Archueleta.”
Miloree -Welcome! and good luck -- how’s the housecleaning coming LOL? Do have a butt-print in your computer chair yet?
Ahh Rascal I love you! This is awesome, overwhelming, and fabulous! Who can chooooose? His brilliance captivates me. His talent is mind-blowing. I have sent some of these to freinds/family but so far no one has fallen into ODD.
YJfanofdavid -- Lord knows there are performances that could be chosen for visual appeal -- just look at that Como La Flor post #74 by djafan. Pomona. Stunning beauty. What a perfect male specimin he is.
The visual tries and fails to hide itself away from The Voice. I’ve tried, in vain, to keep the two apart. I can recognize vocal brilliance without looking at his lips and jawline, but why should I?
HG -- yes! ASIG! I can’t make a list -- it’s all too good!
In case you all don’t know -- I work with some younger ladies (17-20) who mostly all really like David. One of them asks me yesterday “Are you going to loan me the Christmas CD so I can copy it?”
I wanted to say: Blasphemer! Heretic! I rebuke Satan!
I simply said “No way, you are going to buy it my dear!”
I wanted to say: Blasphemer! Heretic! I rebuke Satan!
I simply said “No way, you are going to buy it my dear!”
 Great lines! FG, can I borrow them?
HG -- please feel free to use them! LOL
HG -- I do think you posting ASIG will bring my friend OJS out of lurkdom! *waves to OJS*
Coming out of lurkdom is always a treat.
I forgot to bid you welcome, Ascphil and Miloree. *waves*
Now, I need to get ready for an all-day retreat.
Until next time!
ascphil -- I missed that too -- WELCOME!
I absolutely love all the ideas for essentials here. hellogorgeous you are right about the difference between favorites and essentials for the newcomers. The first time I heard David sing “I’m Yours” at the radio station is one of my favorites because it showed his natural talent and his humble personality. But I admit it is not one of the first I’d show to a potential fan.
The reason I picked “Stand by Me” in Manilla is like tibitibis said, it was a big moment and he seemed so smooth and relaxed like a real seasoned performer -- but, silverfox, that Pittsburgh “Stand by Me” is just wow. And my reason for picking “Crush” is like hellogorgeous said, “it is his debut” and it was a hit.
I choose the following as essential viewing. (Okay, essential to me, if I’m being honest!)
Seriously though, it is beautiful. And I do believe this song needs to be included in any newbie’s list. It seems as if this is the direction David wants to go in.
This is all that I have to say today…
Many thanks to Angelica…
SB
djafan #74 -- you hit it out of the ballpark!
SB -- *not playing fair now, you pulled out
Angelica’s secret weapon*
hellogorgeous #82, I totally agree with your distinction. I do not think many of my choices are ideal for “enabling” purposes.
Except for “Shop Around,” “Love Me Tender,” and “Crazy” perhaps, which are not included in Rascal’s list.
But then I would be entering disagreement territory and we know how futile that can be.
Another example of the distinction is WYSYLM in Salt Lake City July 2008. One needs first to know about the heart connection David has with his fans and have a sense of who he is, before one can fully appreciate that moment. (Maybe it would be different if we had a high-quality video of the performance, too.) And other choices on my list are there because I had already been familiar with him. I was like “Wow, I knew he could do ABCDEF, but he can also do GHIJKL, too? Pass me the heat compress I’m slain!”
emmiegirl…#93…
- *not playing fair now, you pulled out
Angelica’s secret weapon*
I know emmiegirl, but it is just David and a little help from Angelica to bring it all together…Isn’t she amazing as well?
SB
SB -- she is! I wonder, was she always so creative or was it born of recent inspiration? …Angelica?
This was the first O Holy Night I heard David sing and listen to as much if not more that the Tree Lighting version. Pay special attention to 3:14-3:35 and 4:19-4:31.
Sublime
emmiegirl…#96… she is! I wonder, was she always so creative or was it born of recent inspiration? …Angelica?
I would like to know myself…Angelica, people want to know!!
SB
Angelica -- that crooked smile!
I think the only additions I would make to Rascal’s list are
Somebody Out There (Betsy’s post #91 or SLC)
WYSLYM
Bubbly
I think these are essentials.
Since you guys have been posting some of your faves I wanted to share some of mine. These are not based upon vocals. They are absolutely 100% based on the visual beauty of the video or David. They have stood out to my eyes for either their quality and/or lighting effects or for capturing David’s emotions, the beauty of his face, hands, and body.
Gonna break this into 2 posts.
Como La Flor Pomona
WYSYLM San Diego
WYSLYM Newark
Apologize Tacoma
Don’t Let Go Boise
One Boise
Don’t Let Go Duluth
Don’t Let Go Sacramento

FG…it is near impossible to separate the two.
emmiegirl….thanks!

Hooked…thank you….got it.
Some David buzz…

FG,
Thank you for posting you own Top 10 Essential — what a visual feast! I noticed you posted both the Front View and Side View of Don’t Let Go Milwaukee. Do you by any chance have a Rear View as well?
Please understand that the VISUAL Nirvana that David is to me, in no way takes away from or comes before his brilliant talent nor his fabulous spirit. I celebrate and relish in all that I see, hear, and feel.
YJfanofdavid LOL For the health of the fanbase I don’t think a rear-view is advised at this time. Would we survive it? LORD HAVE MERCY!
rascal~ love your picks,essentials indeed….
The smile at the end of the song that is going to be the end of me…. is just too much…
Not to mention the lip quivering, nostril flaring, hip swaying, Archu~bouncing, left hand loving, a face this sweet and beautiful..gahhh….David ~ the early days. And to think this was only 6 months ago~
Barriers~ Northampton
djxox -- did you say nostril flaring?
Does he think that cute smile makes up for the torture?
Fast forward to this Barriers from Grand Rapids:
Talk about your confident shoulder rollin’, hip-swayin’ I OWN THIS performance. This dude has one hand on my heart and the other firmly planted on my backside. I’m afraid to move.
Hey everyone!!!…David is on his way to ALASKA…Let’s GO!!!
Meet you there! What a great weekend!!!
I will call an reserve a hotel. How many should I say will be there????
…and I am not coming back to reality!
SB
Oh my FREAKIN’ HECK! … This is just tooooo much funnnnn!
GOSH! I just finally was able to take the time to wallow in Rascal’s roundup. What a treat. Mmm, mmmm, MMMM! Truly a stunning sampler. And THEN alllll the additional vids brought in by everybody. LORDY. It is all just too divine. TOO.
HG, that distinction you make between faves and “essntials”… good point… I DO get it…in THEORY. LOL
When I play the “What would I put in a ‘Meet David ~ Introductory DVD for the Uninitiated’” Game, it just turns into a 12-DVD SET, “David Archuleta: The Movie” — an all-spliced-and-edited-together FANTASY in my mind of making the quintessntial recreation of the whole David Experience. (Prolly more aptly named “O.D.D.: The Movie”) That game just leaves me in permanent *flail* mode. I get this unaddressable urge to MAKE THEM UNDERSTANNND… lol
Rascal, I know what you mean about that unplugged Apologize in your round up, and it is a stunner FO’SHO’… but it also makes me think back to the St. Louis Apologize during the Idol Tour. LAWD HAVE MOICY! When I first saw that vid, I was just gahgahgah… whawhawha… wh’wuzZAT? (I think MY initial reaction to THIS vid is probably like YOUR initial reaction was to the Apologize you included in YOUR roundup.) This is my fave vid of that performance, and in spite of the fact that it’s only a partial vid (the beginning is chopped off) it STILL makes my HAIR CURL (that’s sayin’ somethin’ lol) I remember during the Idol tour feeling this song and performance somehow slipped under the radar. Nobody seemed to be as GOBSMACKED AND ASTOUNDED by it as I always was/am… it always manages to disintegrate my kneecaps e.v.e.r.y.. s.i.n.g.l.e.. t.i.m.e.
Also, tho I guess you didn’t include the AI vid of “Think of Me” maybe because of the small “oopsie” in the lyrics (??) (Which I kinda just don’t notice all that much), I still think it is so breathtakingly stunning… I would have to include that in my line-up. (warts and all)
As well as the equally Heart Stoppingly STUNNING “When You Believe” that I always experience as nothing less than a tour de force (Bonus feature: “church slacks” :p)
Oh, and GOTTA have the A-MAZING “And So It Goes”
And in spite of what Simon said about “With You” I am STILL outa mah MIND BONKERS for it.
And MOZ DEF Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas, The Christmas Song (“Chestnut Song,” lol), Bubbly, Medley… esp “ONE” , Barriers and YEDL (There are a number of DANGEROUS vids for these. Can’t choose now.)
See my little problem? heh. *flail*
OK, I just can’t do this anymore! I am leaving TDC.
Well, I’m leaving until I finish my real world project. Ya’ll have worn me out.
Rascal started the whole thing with his post and those easy-access videos. I watched ‘em all, more than once. Then I thought of more videos, as did the rest of you. I felt obligated to watch all your choices, lest you feel slighted. One thing led to another and I never found my way off Memory Lane, not that I tried.
It started all over again this morning, and I need help! My head is full of David’s voice and omnipresent images of that face! I seriously think I am starting to melt. You people need a senior citizens lounge here for emergency ArchuCare. Oxygen would be good.
I’m backin’ outta here. For now. I’m gonna keep wishin’ I was with you, but I just gotta stooooooooppppppp.
I’m gone. For today. At least for an hour or two.
Hey GranFan…drop it all…we’re going to ALASKA…gotta make more videos!! Time for a new venue name like…Alaska!!!
Kizzi…are you going to be there with Mr. Kizzi????
SB
lol… oh, man… FG.. your LIST! LORDY! (side view…lol … you are GOOD, honey.)
lmao! GranFan!! Here, allow me to present you with our special, patented TDC Pocket Defib & Oxygen combo!
I still wish we had MORE of the truly git down soulful David. Abrra, you cited the (“WORLD FAMOUS” lol) Reno Works For Me! I still sometimes drag my pillow and blankie into the Reno WFM Merry Go Round Suite and just live in there for days at a time… lol
And then The MyFoxUtah “Crazy” and “Waiting On The World To Change” are killa to me. The vid quality on these is kinda arful, but still …THEY SEND ME STRAIGHT OVER THE EDGE. Even with it being morning, he’s got allergies, he’s in the midst of a grueling Idol Tour… but when you got it, honey, YOU GOT IT. LOVE THESE
Crazy
WOTWTC
And truly, the wonderful, informal, little-rehearsal-time, No-Voice-David (yeah, right) “sing-alongy” Milwaukee “Lean On Me” with Ashlee has nearly destroyed me (in a GOOD way) lately. That easy-goin’, so comfortable-in-his-own-skin, soulful to the bone (*smexy*YOWZA!) Soul David is in there. GUH! (Also, just like the adorable Sayreville Barriers Crackup, the little flub moment at 3:13 -3:17 ish is …GUH! I LOVE IT! THAT FACE, THAT LAUGH…aaauuuggghhh!)
OMG in my post #106 Grand Rapids Barriers there is a SNAPTWIST at :48-:49 seconds -- ahhhhhh! Sweeet Mercy it’s all too much! Long live the snaptwist! Snaptwist FTW!
Abrra -- I tried the Movie Maker but it says I cannot import the vids (they are in my itunes) that I need some converter? Any thoughts?
You guys are KILLIN’ me! Well, David is…in all these videos. I am pretty anal about my videos. Folders by venue, etc. But you guys have posted some I don’t think I have!!!! LOL Now I have to come back in here tonight and link and download. Of course, I have to watch them all first, then check my own stash and see if I have it and then come back and download and maybe watch it one more time. Lord have Mercy, I don’t have this kind of time! Although, who needs sleep!
Funnygirl: Use Any DVD Converter -- it converts almost any video, DVD format, music file format to any other one. Get it here: http://www.any-video-converter.com/
Both Abrra and I bought the Professional Version -- not a lot of money, but converts ANYTHING!
Well skippity-dooooo loooook at 3:28-3:33 in that same Barriers Grand Rapids! The swirling hips/shoulders of DEATH and DESTRUCTION! I hereby REVISE my list to include this video! Oh Abrrrrraaaaaa? Feel like making a MGR? Wasn’t the spicy nacho from this vid -- OHMYHECK it was! Oh Angelica -- how’s about an extended MGR with your salsa move, the snaptwist and the hip swivel/shoulder action?
Thanks Marlie!
Good GOLLY! Barriers from Grand Rapids… Somebody blow in my face…I think I stopped breathing!
lol… oh, man… FG.. your LIST! LORDY! (side view…lol … you are GOOD, honey.)
lmao! GranFan!! Miloree! Here, allow me to present you both with the special, patented TDC Pocket Defib & Oxygen combo!
Good morning TDC. I am sorry to be posting off-topic, but I would like to share what I read in my USA Today just a little bit ago.
Of course, noticeably absent was any mention of DA’s Christmas album being released in Oct. However, there IS an article describing Bob Dylan’s album being released OCT. 13th w/the title:
“Christmas IN the Heart”
Is this old news to you all? Sorry if I am behind in my knowledge.
LOL… a little redundancy never hurt anybody… (~ compliments, Dept. of Redundancy Dept.)
BTW,
Tibi, LOVE your list! Yours, too, Ronald!
HG, oh ASIG is a major fave of mine!! *high fives!*
Hi Jello! {{hugs}} Actually I did post that tidbit in an earlier thread, but I think it got lost in the shuffle. Veddy interestink! The proceeds go to a Feed America charity, too. Good on Bob.
Good for the charity, Bob…but, I think it kinda stinks just a tad for David.
JUST MY OPINION -- so leave me alone on this one…ok?
And beebee: you are in my personal space. No hugs please.
BTW: Somehow, the thought of Bob singing beautiful Christmas songs makes me cringe just a tiny bit.
DISCLAIMER: Just kidding on most of the above
Sorry to intrude on all your fun you are having.
Just wanted to get it off my chest. Thanks.
And {{hugs}} back to a few of you. haha
Currently glued to every performance from Grand Rapids. CHEERS to “EmilyluvsArchie” (whoever you are) for the continuous coverage. I don’t think I’ve ever sat in one place for so long. If this is how ODD works…I’m gonna need to get a better chair!
I am coming out of lurkdom simply to add one more to this amazing collection. “I’ll Be” in Rockford, IL. I’ve only watched it about 5 thousand times and haven’t tired of it yet, LOL! Not sure how to embed but will give it a try:
miloree -- Grand Rapids was awesome! Freo and I were front row center for that one (and he wore the t-shirt I gave him at the VIP that day -- squeeeeeeee!!!) I remember turning around to BETSY and GEMZONE when he was on stage and screaming CALL 911!!! LMAO!!
Yep! That was a good one alright!
Ahhhh….memories huh girls???
*Thud*
We had incredible seats for Grand Rapids. We might as well had been sitting in his lap. So much fun!
Oh, I totally forgot to mention!!
David received the scrapbook from TDC and sends his thanks! I got a card from him on Monday.
News break:
ABC Alaska talking about the State Fair…
The big name concerts like the Beach Boys, Seether, and David Archuleta have already sold out.
Joner -- LMAO @ 911 -- ..refuse medical treatment until AFTER the show is over
It so did look like a GREAT show…he was really engaged in that one.
Miasmom1= thanks so much for putting up the memorable “I’ll Be”. while it’s playing, my mind is replaying the version he did a couple years back in his high school auditorium. I know, we’ve all seen it. The shy, smiley,oh gosh David with the same soaring vocals but without the runs and the moves and the “look”. Didn’t we all know it was the promise of something great to come? I’ll want to hear the next version in a couple of years hence, but for now the growth in him is almost beyond comprehension.
OK, this is seriously cracking me up.
David tweeted today about his fondness for the Delta Airlines safety video with the red-headed flight attendent, and now the red-headed flight attendent is tweeting David.
David, you little flirt! LOL
FG, once you get all set up and tuned up with your vid editing skillz… jump back jack…we are in BIG TROUBLE! We already have some MIGHTY fine vid makers (ANGELICA! HG! ABRRA! RASCAL! Oh just a A BUNCH, really!) But phew, I’m kinda *ascared* of what could happen when you get in the driver’s seat. lol *Quakes*
Miloree, your newbie-archu_fan presence and enthusiasm makes me want to find everything I can think of and DRAG IT IN HERE and lay it at your feet. lol Even as I type I’m thinking of a zillion non-performance vids of David just being unspeakbly archudorkable and archudorable. THERE IS SO MUCH SOLID GOLD TO WALLOW IN. lol
I have a NICE pile of links accumulating and just sitting in the wings that are solely CLASSIC archu_dorable/dorkable stuff. I won’t post them here unless people think they are on topic enough. There is just so much Archu_Performance GOLD to be swallowed up with (Archu_VORTEX!), that prolly the non-performance snippets, etc would be best saved for a different thread covering the non-performing David or sumpn’ — a supplemental New-Fan-Initiation set of vids. (Happy to post those links if desired. All classic David stuff that I ADORE and that are a part of why I HAVE O.D.D. But will hold off.)
Aww, freo, a card from David! Squee! It was SO cool and thoughtful of you guys to make that scrap book for David.
River, truly, the growth…observing the evolution…and virtually in real-time… is… just unbearably sublime. Seriously a huge part of the thrill and inescapable O.D.D. for me.
ps: Joner, is Gemzone “MomWithODD”? *confused*
Beebee -- See #73 (unless she’s pulling a Sybil on me!) LOL!
BeeBee…go crazy and SEND IT TO MY EMAIL!!!! LOLOLOL
Gotta remember…I’ve got a LOT of catching up to do! I was hangin in there, watching, singing along, onto the next … and then grand rapids happened…and well…I’m still there LOLOL (help?)
And for all of us “other Mom’s” of David…
Certainly not essential..just ever so sweet!
joner… oooops! I COULD ask gemzone directly, now couldn’t I? (d’oh!)
Gemzone! Hi! *waves*
Are you the fan formerly known as MomWithODD? (there, that was simple.)
Miloree, Grand Rapids is dangerous. Sayreville’s Dangerous…Rockford’s dangerous… DelMar is dangerous… it’s allllllllllll Dangerous! lolol The bad news…er…good news…er…the thing is THERE IS NO HELP! LOL I do not have your email. (And if I did, you could get an awful lot of random emails with links to archu_everything. Which is nice… in a vortexey kinda way.)
(How delightfully naive of me to think I would get anything done today.) (help?)
must. go. do. things.
This article actually had a beautiful picture of David and a short bio. I couldn’t get it on this page, copy/paste didn’t work!!!
La Herencia , The Heritage & History That is New Mexico, Vol 63
“Young Hispanic Heros …..In the past issues of La Herencia we have identified Hispanic Heros who, while notable in their achievements, may have seemed distant and obscure to our Hispanic youth. Accordingly, this segment of “Hispanic Heros” is devoted to identifying contemporary celebrities who are familiar to our youth and to acknowledging the noble achievements in their young lives as a way of inspiring our youth to follow these role models in their own path to leadership and achievement.”
People featured in this article are Tony Romo, America Ferrera, Shakira, David Archuleta, Demi Lovato
Beautifl post. It has bee hard to break away from watching all these videos.
djafan -- did you ever get my email?
I mean BEAUTIFUL post!!!! (Darn nails!) It has BEEN hard to ……
Only for David would I wait 10 minutes for a page to load.
FG, others, all I’m saying is take a gander at Barriers 3:00 mark. I have a name for that move. I think I’ll keep it to myself!
FunnyGirl . August 27, 2009 at 2:48 pm .
Movie Maker will only import .wmv files. ITunes will only use .mp4 video files. You need to buy:
http://www.any-video-converter.com/products/for_video/
And you will have all your conversion options at your fingertips. I sent you my phone number. Call me if you need some clarification. Or send me your cell number and I can call you. There are other ways around buying software, but I need to know what you have to work with. aTubeCatcher ( I sent you the link) is free and can make a Youtube into .wmv file. You just have to paste the link in the Source line. I work much better explaining things in person. I can get a better idea of what computer skills you have before I go confusing the heck outta you.
Getting started has a few bumps in the road, but soon it becomes smooth as glass.
Abrra
jello : I posted about Bob Dylan Christmas album yesterday in IDF, i really think communication and research are not the strongs points on Davids people. I’m a little concern not only because the Bob D. album have a similar name and same date of release , but because support a BIG CAUSE, if you read, all the profits going to the charity, not only this year but forever so is because that a little worry too.David need to think maybe at least a new name or release his album in a different date. Just saying!!!!
BTW Hello everybody!!!!!!:)
ohmyheck, I’ve gotten re-snagged in the Grand Rapids Barreirs vortex. (thanks Betsy! lol) Seriously Barriers is… guh. And THAT Barriers…well …. *points gun to head*
Miloree, important note: If you haven’t done so, do treat yourself to reading emilyluvsarchie’s “more info” commentaries on any vids you watch from her. They are always hilarious and adorable.
Hi Tibi! *waves*
gotta get a grip here.
hey Hooked…yes I did and now you have email.
All these videos are to much for one day… I think David has invaded my DNA…lol
betsy….should I be curious?….lol
hooked could you email me the link to the La Herencia , The Heritage & History That is New Mexico, Vol 63?
thanks
Re the Dylan Christmas CD/David’s Christmas CD release date
I have no concerns about this. These 2 artists have their own fan base, Some cross pollination may be the case, as some may buy BOTH.
Seriously, consider how beautiful David’s voice is when he sings these types of songs. Then think how Dylan sings ANY song.
I know where I’d spend my sawbuck.
Abrra
Abrra -- ROTFLMAO!!
“Seriously, consider how beautiful David’s voice is when he sings these types of songs. Then think how Dylan sings ANY song.
I know where I’d spend my sawbuck.”
Seriously, you kill me. I just compared the two voices in my head. I like Dylan but,
SB and emmiegirl #92, 93, 95, 96. Check out my new fan site, The Angelica Chronicles, coming soon!!!!
MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you. Amazing?? I don’t think so. But that was sweet of you both to post that.
David is attempting to upload a vblog in Alaska. He is a tad impatient with his connection speed.
http://twitpic.com/fimoj -- This is not helpful. It’s over 200 minutes now too! I paid 10 bucks for this internet connection! Going to …
Kinda awkward but I found a good connection in front of someone else’s door!
bebe tweet
lmao! RT @Jonerz: Um….security….someone is outside my hotel room door with a strange device….and I think he’s singing to himself…
Can’t wait for the vblog! Hoping it’s all HIM by HIM.
Abrra
IT is Abrra…its up in YouTube right now
Enjoy!
Yay all him, by him vlog! FTW! Is he not insanely adorable?
Yeah!
How many times did he say that word? And lurking out somebody’s door while he’s uploading. If they had caught him..awkward! lol.
Oh yeah, and Alaska is cool..temperature wise.
We have just been gobsmacked with a massive dose of archugorgeousness and archudorablness!!
He continues to keep me undone!
Insanely adorable, indeed, Angelica. On nights like tonight, with my heart full after David’s vlog, I think that ALL it should take to turn anyone into a fool for David is one of his vlogs.
He’s got SUCH charisma.
Goodnight, all you grinning people.
He’s hilarious. And adorable. And goofy in a good Archuleta way. He seems very happy.
KathyH,
“Goodnight, all you grinning people.”
haha. my face hurts
Goodnight.
Hi everyone! I’m just stopping by to thank you. So many of you here at TDC have said such kind things about some of my concert vids and commentary, and I’ve had password problems and haven’t been able to log on here. I added the lines in my name and finally got registered!I’ve felt bad that I’ve not thanked you sooner! So….thanks!
Oh, emilyluvsarchie! You are one of my heroes! Thanks for all the beautiful videos! And welcome to TDC!
Marlie, thanks…haha. This is a great thread! Hard to believe there are so many epic moments in just a short time.
emilyluvsarhie…hi!
Aside from your amazing videos I love your commentary….thank you!
Dear David,
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for the new vlog ~ it’s nothing but pure joy.
Thank you for thinking of us, and thank you for sharing with us.
You’ve quenched our concerns with your endless grins and giggles.
Enjoy Alaska !
p.s I am a fan of hotel blogs ~ sitting on beds ~ or at desks.
Hi! emily_luvs_archie I love your videos!! Thanks so much for sharing with all Davids fans!!!
AND NOW LOOK WHO GONNA RELEASE A CHRISTMAS ALBUM THE SAME DATE THAT DAVID :
In The Swing of Christmas
Barry Manilow (Artist)
List Price: $11.98
Price: $11.98
This title will be released on October 13, 2009.
Seriously WHAT???, Bob Dylan for a big Charity, Barry M a legend , know i want Disney behind the marketing of Davids Christmas album and like sponsor of his Christmas shows !!!:(
Good Night!
emilyluvsarchie, I feel like we have a celebrity in our midst!
You are awesome girl, and your footnotes are hilarious.
Can’t thank you enough for the fortitude and determination, late nights and hard work you put into bringing us all of your awesome videos! You are a true DA fan!!
Hi djafan and tibitibis! I’m glad you enjoy the videos, I sure love making them! Come on Christmas tour!
emmiegirl. David has had me since the Heaven audition, and we all know how that goes… there is no turning back!I’m fortunate that my whole family loves David, so they understand the late nights. As a matter of fact before we book a hotel, my mom checks their internet speed!
Wow, I have an unusual urge to be in Alaska!
Beebee #108, you’re talking about a 12-DVD set of David? I can’t quite do that, but I do already have a 4-DVD “best of” DVD set that I’ve been making for some friends of mine lol. Seven-and-a-half hours of David!
I don’t think it matters that Bob Dylan’s album has a similar title. I wouldn’t be surprised if there are many more albums out there that have both “Christmas” and “Heart” in the title. What people look for is the artist, and for that we’ve got David, just as Bob Dylan’s got Bob Dylan. My only concern is what kind of promotion and exposure it will get, and when it comes to Christmas album promotion I’m an ignoramus.
But the thought of Bob Dylan singing Christmas songs? Well, lemme just say that I hope he does something interesting or has some original songs, because Bob Dylan’s voice is just not my cuppa tea. Songwriter? Yes. Vocalist? Meh.
I am not worried about the competing Christmas CD’s. There are always a bunch that are released at the same time. It’s unlikely that many people are fans of Bob Dylan and David (except happy!)
And geez, I don’t know how anyone will be able to resist David’s CD once they hear a song on the radio….okay JIVE…get those songs on the radio for the holiday season, please.
Oh wow emilyluvsarchie…if you can do it…do it!
OMG it’s Emilyluvsarchie! THANK YOU for your videos and your awesomeness!
Abrra -- you have e-mail!
Betsy -- if there is a GOD you will e-mail me and tell me the name of the 3:00 min move. My e-mail is thearchuhulk@yahoo.com
Beebee -- we shall see if I can “figger it out” LOL
emily_luvs_archie .
Welcome to TDC.
However, I am the resident Queen of SPAM here! I will loan you my SPAM WAND for a short period. Treat it with care?
Love your videos and your descriptions.

Abrra
Thanks Abrra but I am working ALL WEEKEND.
Home from work recovering from.. well not life-threatning.. so y’all will be keeping me company today. Grateful for the videos, comments and devotion to the object of my affection. I expect to be lurking here for a while.
River
I have followed your tweets. I hope your recovery is swift!
Abrra has had her thinking cap on this morning.
If anyone who had planned to go to Providence or Manchester still has cards or gifts for David, I would be happy to deliver them. You can email me through the contact page to work out details. I realize how disappointing it was to have things changed on short notice. If you got him “the perfect gift” and hate to return it, don’t! Did you write him a letter with SASE? Send it! Want something autographed? Send it!
Abrra
Oh My Gosh Emily! Great to see you here at TDC! {{hugs}}(I am the lady who was always by herself and who kept running into you and your lovely family — I-X Amusement Park, Cleveland VIP and Pittsburgh. I miss you guys!) Our archivist JackRyan loves you! So your mom always checks the internet speed before booking the hotels so you can upload at super-speed? Awww. She is our hero too! (Please say hello to her for me — or better yet, have her stop by and visit!)
Hey LIZ can you e-mail me… computor problems and I have lost e-mail addresses.
Welcome Emily!
You are fantabulous! I remember one night recently, your video appeared on YT almost before David had time to wipe the sweat from his face. Yay for mom booking hotels based on internet speed. lol. Anyhoo, thanks for all the joy you bring to us all at TDC and elsewhere. Have you considered a career in visual media and broadcasting? You can show a prospective college or employer your awesome body of work. lol. Yet I am serious.
Speaking of David and his sweat. Why does he not use a towel? Others in the band do. I think he knows we enjoy seeing him sweat. He is sooooo right. JMO, but I think it’s his innocent as a lamb way of driving us crazy.
He is a dangerous man.
Hey Abbra. thanks. Looking forward (now there’s an understatement) to seeing you at Prov and Manchester. I do indeed have a gift I’ve been hoping to get to David and if all goes well that will happen. (Plus the photo op I’ve never quite co ordinated in all the concerts I’ve been to.)
…back away from the towel!!
(they better not even think about giving him a towel!)
Perez just tweeted David’s vlog!
Angelica -- if he knows then I am terrified. I refuse to believe it. LOL! Not wiping sweat cuz he knows we wanna see it? No way! Right? No one else sweats like a sparkly angel do they?
Angelica, “but I think it’s his innocent as a lamb way of driving us crazy.”
…it’s working.
Wait Wait Angelica you are suggesting that he KNOWS, that there is INTENT behind it?? Now that would be something. It cannot be.
Maybe he thinks that watching him wipe his sweat would be kinda gross for us -- then where would he put down the towel? He’s too clean for such atrocities -- he’ll sweat all over himself and spare us.
Evening news: “The fangirl battle broke out right after David Archuleta wiped some sweat from his face and neck. He meant to set the towel down on his keyboard but it fell to the stage in a sparkly pile. Several fans then rushed the stage and a full-out wrestling match ensued over the towel. David was whisked away by security quickly and the fans were tranquilized and carried off by police. One was heard mumbling….’I shall pet it and hug it and love it and name it George…’”
FG,
George? ROFL
Angelica, Haha. We finally caught on to the conspicuous lack of towel use. The omission of towels on stage is most definitely not inadvertent! He totally knows how to enhance the “visuals” for our viewing pleasure in his Innocent as a Lamb Way!
A lot of people think he is incapable of intentional destruction. I don’t happen to be one of them. Far be it for an almost 19 year old guy to do anything like that. I know he’s a good guy, but he’s a GUY. Just sayin.
I think there is very little that happens on stage that is not intentional and that David is not fully aware of. He is too much the perfectionist showman to let that happen.
Be afraid. Be very afraid.
here ya go! LOL
Angelica -- he is aware of himself but does he know what WE are thinking? I’m not sure.
Either way I am very afraid, and I have been since Sayreville….
FG, “name it George.” LMAO!
I actually have a friend who was getting David to sign a poster for he and he was sick with allergies at the time. As he leaned over to sign his nose dribbled on the poster and he of course, apologized profusely. She said, “Oh that’s OK.” hehe.
Sweet mucous.
that should read sign a poster for her and he…
Thanks so much for the deep belly laugh this morning!
FG, lol! Thanks for that cartoon. I adore Daffy Duck!
OK. I take it back. It is the nature of the beast that he has me conflicted and feeling guilty to even suspect him of intent. I am sure he does not mean to sweat profusely sans towel or assume the position of the territorial stance to affect us in any way.
Of course not. He’s David. He doesn’t mean to turn us on.
Oh dear. That makes it even more irresistible.
I tell ya we are doomed.
“A lot of people think he is incapable of intentional destruction. I don’t happen to be one of them”
…me neither.
FG, LOL! that clip is perfect. Can’t you just see David screaming
“I am not a bunny rabbit!”
LOL Angelica! I’m quite sure that harps play when he blows his sweet nose. I’ll bet that his every molecule tastes like your favoite confection.
Angelica LOLOLOL!
Angelica -- don’t feel guilty! Just cuz I can’t go there -- doesn’t mean it isn’t true! He claims he doesn’t watch his performances -- is he aware of how powerfully sexy he is onstage?
THIS territorial stance?
I realize he is a primate, an animal of the male species, but how can an innocent know what we would consider sexy? Or is it an instinct, or a simple stance that serves some technical purpose in singing? I honestly don’t care.
intentional destruction accidently on purpose?
FG -- I don’t care either. As long as he keeps doing what works for him. I am a deliriously happy camper.
Angelica -- a happy camper at the world’s scariest camp! There you are all tucked into your sleeping bag after an evening by the campfire eating s’mores but who knows what archuhip or shouldershimmy may be watching from the woods, ready to pounce when you least expect it!
Did you guys see my screencaps from Emilyluvsarchie’s Grand Rapids vids?
http://fansofdavid.com/?paged=3
scroll 1/2 way down the page
http://fansofdavid.com/wp-content/gallery/tour-screencaps-fg/pic6.JPG
kinda reminds me of that note in “In This Moment” from finale when he caressed that note just like he’s doing here.
Did you ever see this screencap I made? I don’t know why but I think it is UBERCOOL.
http://i302.photobucket.com/albums/nn102/ReneC_2008/th_back.jpg
and did you see the one I call Baker’s Chocolate?
http://i302.photobucket.com/albums/nn102/ReneC_2008/th_screen.jpg
Angelica, FG!
Now you ladies have got to stoppppppppppp!
I’m laughing my bootie off OUT LOUD at work and people passing my office out in the hall keep peeking in to see WTH is going on in my office!!
You are just toooo much. And for the record, I do think he is aware of his affect on us, he just doesn’t understand why???
OK..nevermind, don’t stop..carry on!
HI EmilyLuvsArchie! I LOVE your videos and your commentaries! You are MUCH APPRECIATED! What videos do YOU show people you want to introduce them to David?
Ronald, cool—A 4-dvd set (what constraint you have! lol) I remember you telling us you’d compiled some select David goodies to hand to friends, but didn’t realize it was a 4-DVD affair! NIIIIIICE!
About the Dylan Christmas album, I’m not worried either. I think Christmas is different in the world of albums. Lots of people have hugely varied Christmas/Holiday album collections — even striving for the eclectic mix. Multiple artists come out with Christmas albums — that happens every season. (Vive La Ho Ho Ho!) I think there’s ample room for David AND Bob Dylan (that nice Jewish boy lol), even with similar titles. Somebody (who was that?) suggested that some cross pollination might even occur. I agree that’s quite possible.
AND…Um, Marlie? *raises hand* I am a Dylan fan (Happy where are you??) I HOPE (think!) you’re wrong about the unlikelihood of Dylan fans being David fans. I don’t love Dylan because he has pristine vocal timbre, but he is no less a genius imo. (In my book, the Real Deal is the Real Deal is the Real Deal.) (: The two fan bases aren’t necessarily mutually exclusive. I think this is prolly good news. lol
Btw, I love Bebereader’s idea to gift David’s album to various local establishments (restaurants, stores, etc) to play “in house.” And I REALLY LOVE that concept for David’s Christmas album. (Makes me feel all *fuzzy* just thinkin’ about it.)
—--
LMAO!! FG, Angelica, emmie…
OMG you guys have KILLED MEEEEE!!!!!
lolol… SF, I’m with you… I think he knows….but maybe not just exactly why (OR MAYBE HE DOES! =:O)
YES, LADIES …DO CARRY ON!
*determined to get things done today* (psh…)
Hi SF!
Angelica “Oh dear. That makes it even more irresistible.”
I suddenly understand men’s strange interest in virgins. ROTFL!
Hi beebee!
Angelica…
A lot of people think he is incapable of intentional destruction. I don’t happen to be one of them. Far be it for an almost 19 year old guy to do anything like that. I know he’s a good guy, but he’s a GUY. Just sayin.
I think there is very little that happens on stage that is not intentional and that David is not fully aware of. He is too much the perfectionist showman to let that happen.
Be afraid. Be very afraid.
I’m with you on this….I’ve noticed that towel an arms reach away sitting at the edge of the keyboard and never puts it to use. He uses his hands and wipes on his pants and everyone screams…don’t know if he thinks he’s sexy but he does hear the reaction, a very positive one, he’s a quick study…we all know that.
I am with you 100% on this
I have to get something done today LOL
Look away from the territorial stance, step away from the nostril, divert your gaze from his curly lips, unhand that innocent angel!
FunnyGirl….
Angelica “Oh dear. That makes it even more irresistible.”
I suddenly understand men’s strange interest in virgins. ROTFL!
hahahahahahaha
oh dear lord… lolololololol
*steps awayyyyyyyyy from the computer*
beebee,
*determined to get things done today* (psh…)
Good luck with that. I’m am lumbered this morning, (day off) with the impossible burden of choosing pics of him for an upcoming article. Hence my uhhh..focus on his physicality today.
Dad gum his beautiful hide.
Oh well. Back to work. Hi Ho Hi Ho.
hey all! i’m usually a lurker but let me just say that your posts today are making me smile a lot today!
i think david’s sweet innocent charm and sexy performance on stage is a deadly combination…that’s what did me and have not recovered ever since…not that i’m complaining….
GAAAHHHHH! I swore I would NOT delurk again, and then here come all these amazing, essential David videos. And if they are essential, you NEED to watch them, right? Probably several times? Including front views, side views (all views are good). THEN there are the intentional vs. non-intentional sweating theories--well, you have to give studied consideration to those, don’t you? And scrutinize closely various photos. Several times. Then, when you think you can finally get some work done, Angelica, FG, and Beebee start being…..themselves. Y’all are just way too much fun.
Cheers!
Funnygirl, You are so welcome and i love your screencaps!
Abbra, Glad you like them!
YJfanofdavid, Hi! I thought that was you. ( Mom says hi)
Angelica, its as if uploading has become part of this obsession i have…haha
beebee, Thanks for the kind words. And to introduce new fans to David -- I tend to bombard them with EVERYTHING until they succumb! I have a pretty good conversion rate.
To be honest, I have a hard time choosing, I love every performance and they all seem important to me.
By the way, you are all hilarious! Thanks for the warm welcome.
Emily, I’m curious, have you ever converted NON-Fans? (Heaven knows you’re armed with ample ammo…lol) I really wish I COULD narrow things down, like rascal and a few others have done so beautifully. I’ll be reviewing all the various lists here (again, and again, and again…heh) I’m so “blinded by the light” it’s hard to get laser-like in my selection. I s’pose it depends on who exactly one is trying to convert/*enlighten* (maybe).
Maybe Miloree has some insight, being such a newbie (Miloree, weren’t you kind of a NON-fan before?) I’m curious what YOU would slap in front of a skeptic who hasn’t had the “now I GET IT” *lightbulb* moment. Especially having come from a rocker fan background. (It might be too early to ask you such a thing!)
(BTW, I am NOT here. I am getting “THINGS” done.)
*runs back in*
oh, and hi xaris and gianna! *waves*
really leaving now. mean it. really.
*poof!*
/giggles
Was reading on another blog far removed from anything and came across this post about Dylan’s Christmas CD.
“i love my man, but it’s hard to get behind this. this is worse than the rumours of him being an american idol judge years back.
i also heard news the other day that he might soon be the voice of a some car GPS unit. ZOIKS!”
Even though she was RUDE to me in Boston, I think I would like to keep my GPS Lady Jill. We made up on the way home.

More fun on a rainy afternoon.
Did you know you can make David postage stamps?

Bob Dylan as the voice of a GPS:
I toolld you ta turn riiiight,
You turned lefft against the liight,
Now you’re lost and all alone,
Like a complete unknown,
Like a rollin stone.
Recalculating, cause you’re laame,
Don’t think that I’m the one to blaame,
I didn’t get you in this meess,
Just trying to be the friggin GPS.
Recalculating where you need to roam,
Recalculating cause you must be stoned.
Just remember when I get you home,
Take a plane next time and leave me alone.
Love ya Bob. Just having a little fun, man. And I agree with beebee, you are a genius.
Angelica #220: OMG, ROFLOL. I can HEAR that -- the inflection, the sounds that he makes in his throat, the drawn out words, the flat aaaaaa LOL. Too funny!
Grasshopper make Master SMILE.
Abrra
LOL! I can so HEAR that! Too hilarious!
*poof!*
How many times can they make fun of Bob
Before I call them on it?
Yes n how many comments can a reader read
Pretending she just doesn’t see?
How many ears must these commenters have
Before they can appreciate how Bobby sings?
Yes n how many times can she tell them they’re deaf
Before she’s forever banned?
The answer my friend is blowin’ in the wind,
The answer is blowing in the wind.
You all make me smile. You’re all deaf when it comes to Bob, but you make me smile.
SB
Just missed you. Imagine I will be there when you return?

So, uh, when is someone going to give David the memo that says: David, sweetie, you’re already grown!
His latest tweet:
When I grow up I wanna have a steam room/shower. Steam saves throats’ lives!
For you happy. He is a remarkable artist and lyricist who I have the greatest respect for.
“Forever Young”
May God bless and keep you always
May your wishes all come true
May you always do for others
And let others do for you
May you build a ladder to the stars
And climb on every rung
May you stay forever young
Forever young, forever young
May you stay forever young.
May you grow up to be righteous
May you grow up to be true
May you always know the truth
And see the lights surrounding you
May you always be courageous
Stand upright and be strong
May you stay forever young
Forever young, forever young
May you stay forever young.
May your hands always be busy
May your feet always be swift
May you have a strong foundation
When the winds of changes shift
May your heart always be joyful
And may your song always be sung
May you stay forever young
Forever young, forever young
May you stay forever young.
awww Angelica
and you even posted Bob’s version…. and not Rod Stewart’s,…. or Joan Baez’s…. or Harry Belafonte, Jerry Garcia, or Patti Labelle’s,… .or Johnny Cash’s, Meat Loaf’s, The Pretenders’, or Diana Ross’ or that new rapping Coke commerical….. I like Bob’s version the best (no suprise there, lol)…. until that is…. David records it
Anagelica #220 and Happy #224, you are both so clever. Love it. I also really like Bob’s “Forever Young” and agree with Happy …until David records it.
Hi everyone. I like Bob Dylan too, even with that raspy, drawly singing voice
At least its unique, eh? But as a lyricist, his gooooooooood.
Just saw this posted: David singing Happy Bday during his Pro92FM’s M&G @ Providence, RI
Welcome to all the new posters and delurkers!

A PRESS RELEASE RE CONCERT PROMO
http://www.alaskastatefair.org/aboutus/media/pressrelease/082709.html
______________________________________________________________
Anchorage High Schooler Wins Fair’s David Archuleta Pizza Party
It would be an understatement to say that Whitney Grigsby is excited to be selected as the winner of the Alaska State Fair’s David Archuleta Pizza Party prize package.
“You have no idea,” said Grigsby, a 17-year-old senior at South Anchorage High School. “It’s David Archuleta!”
As the winner, Grigsby will receive a pizza party, Fair admission and tickets to the David Archuleta concert for herself and seven of her friends and family members. The concert, which is presented by Alaska Airlines and is part of the AT&T Borealis Concert Series, takes place on Friday, August 28 at 7:30 p.m. at the Fair’s Borealis Theatre.
Grigsby was selected as the winner in a random drawing held on August 24. Prior to that, more than 2,000 people entered the drawing by signing up to receive mobile or e-mail updates on the Fair Web site or in person at the Dimond Center and Anchorage 5th Avenue Mall.
“I thought I would enter and try to win, but I didn’t expect it. I never win anything, so I was really surprised,” said Grigsby, whose sister told her about the contest and encouraged her to sign up. Grigsby added that she is most excited to meet the singer in person.
Those who didn’t win the prize package still have the opportunity to purchase tickets to see Archuleta in concert at the Fair. Tickets are $45 general without Fair admission, and $55 general with Fair admission, and are available for purchase at alaskastatefair.org. Convenience fees apply. Reserved seating tickets are no longer available for this concert.
Since his second-place finish on American Idol, 18-year-old Archuleta signed with 19 Recordings/Jive Records, released his first album, and had three songs debut simultaneously on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. His self-titled debut featured his first single, “Crush,” as well as the popular tunes “Touch My Hand” and “A Little Too Not Over You.” He recently completed a tour of the U.S. and the United Kingdom, and joined Demi Lovato on her summer tour 2009.

While waiting for more vids to get uploaded, BETSY has finally posted her GRAND RAPIDS & CLARKSTON RECAPS!
http://www.thedavidchronicles.com/2009/08/grand-rapids-clarkston/
Ronald,
Here’s the story of the lyrics to Forever Young from Wikipedia:
“Forever Young” is a composition by Bob Dylan. The song first appeared (in two different versions) on Dylan’s 1974 album Planet Waves.
Rod Stewart recorded a song titled “Forever Young”, which was released as a single and included on his Out of Order album in 1988. The song was remarkably similar to the Bob Dylan song of the same title, sharing not only a similar melody but many of the same lyrics. Upon threat of a plagiarism suit, Stewart acknowledged that he had subconsciously plagiarized the older song, and agreed to share his royalties with Dylan.”
Interesting. I didn’t know that myself.
Just read Betsy’s must read recap. It’s great. Check it out y’all. Now I’m gonna watch some Alaska videos of darling David.
Good morning TDC!

1. Joy To The World
2. O Come All Ye Faithful
3. The First Noel
4. I’ll Be Home For Christmas
5. O Holy Night
6. Silent Night
7. What Child Is This
8. Mother’s Lullaby
9. Angels We Have Heard On High
10. Ave Maria
11. Riu Riu Chiu
12. Patapan
http://tommy2.net/content/?p=8251
From all reports it seems the concert in Alaska was the usual love-fest, incredible, David on his game experience. What a sweet way to finish his summer tour. He will have so many wonderful memories. And.. the best is yet to be, as always.
xaris,
Thanks for that song list! OMGOSH. This is going to be awesome!
Never heard of the last 2. Here they are but you have to imagine them with David’s voice. GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!
This version of Riu Riu Chui by the Monkees is actually quite good.
Patapan by the Caribbean School of Dance
Mothers Lullaby
Hannah Zhalih and sister Suzanne Tufan sing The Gartan Mother’s Lullaby the summer of 2007 in Ojai for the camera.
Oh if he sings this a capella, it will be so lovely.
Abrra
Wow, I wonder how he will perform Riu Riu Chiu — that is challenging…
I’m so happy we all love Bobby now!
(Where is Dawn?)
I think it is an interesting point even on a DA blog, because we are always talking about the artist behind the Voice, the manner in which the Voice is able to reveal the truth, and what constitutes “a great, great singer.”
But for the still unconvinced, Bob Dylan was ranked 7th on Rolling Stones’ “100 Greatest Singers of All Time.” I excerpt the following (written by Bono) because it talks about great singing:
“Sam Cooke explained (about Dylan) that from now on, it’s not going to be about how pretty the voice is. It’s going to be about believing that the voice is telling the truth.
I love that album Shot of Love. There’s no production. You’re in a room hearing him sing… That is the period where he moves me most. The voice becomes the words. There is no performing, just life — as Yeats says, when the dancer becomes the dance.
Dylan did with singing what Brando did with acting. He busted through the artifice to get to the art. Both of them tore down the prissy rules laid down by the schoolmarms of their craft, broke through the fourth wall, got in the audience’s face and said, “I dare you to think I’m kidding.”
So, David can get in our faces, tell the truth AND he has a pretty voice… no wonder we are moved.
Who else was in the top 10 you ask? Below is the list (along with the artists that wrote an analysis for each of them)
1 | Aretha Franklin by Mary J. Blige
2 | Ray Charles by Billy Joel
3 | Elvis Presley by Robert Plant
4 | Sam Cooke by Van Morrison
5 | John Lennon by Jackson Browne
6 | Marvin Gaye by Alicia Keys
7 | Bob Dylan by Bono
8 | Otis Redding by Booker T. Jones
9 | Stevie Wonder by Cee-Lo
10 | James Brown by Iggy Pop
The whole list and the writups can be found at http://www.rollingstone.com/news/coverstory/greatestsingers/page/1 ….. check it out, ITS GREAT READING!
Here is a Solo version of Pat-A-Pan
Same guy, LIVE version:
All girls choir
Or how about a Light Show-inspired Pat-a-pan?
I wonder if he will do it in French or Spanish too… Riu Riu Chiu is usually in Spanish but it has a Latin beat. I remember hearing a pop-like version of Pat-A-Pan… just can’t find it in youtube just now
HG #226
Just wondering if this tweet isn’t just an example of the dry wit and great, sometimes self-deprecating, sense of humor Cook and several of the top ten from AI 7 told us about? I also thought David’s text to Cook about DC joining twitter “…oh great, someone else to make me look unfunny…” was an example of David’s wit. Because we’ll never know David as well as Cook and the others do, we may not always recognize his his dry humor, especially when it’s expressed in writing, but it think it’s there more than we know.
OK in this part of rural New England I’m stuck with dial-up. So …..I lurk. But with a thread full of great David vids I’ll probably be logged in here for a while watching and enjoying. It may week or so to get through all the vids but. I’m here.
JR and all who contributed to videos from Alaska…and…news and vids for the Christmas CD…
Thank you for all the work that you have done in the last several hours to bring us news and ‘David from Alaska’ wow…
You never know what the morning will bring here…
SB
Another tidbit from Kurt Bestor’s twitter:
Recording Boys Choir for Archuleta CD this morning. Should be the final touch on this song.
I was wondering which song David had just recorded that made Richard and the engineer say this when it was done…..
Richard: I can’t wait for you to all hear what I experienced today
Richard: he was amazing
Richard: ya know, we kept asking… how you feeling?
Richard: he said he was doing fine, and his voice was strong
Richard: the coolest part of the day…
Richard: we get done…
Richard: and our engineer hit the talk back and said…
Richard: in all my years of siting behind this console…
Richard: that will go down as one of the most memorable great moments I have had
Richard: it was so cool
Richard: everyone of us just sat there and went… wow
Richard: in fact, we did a couple of takes that were not necessary just so we could hear it again
Richard: don’t tell David that
**************
I was thinking it must have been “Ave Maria”, but it could have been any one of the songs on the list. I just hope ALL the songs make the final cut! Predictions of this Christmas CD turning into a classic with reissues every year for years
to come, still stand.
Now just waiting for the official announcement of David’s Winter/Christmas Solo Tour dates & venues. We seem to always be in “anticipation mode” when it comes to being followers of David.
Have a great day, Peace!
I have been out of town a few days and catching up. Great top ten essential list. I agree with Ronald and others who add Crazy on that list. Talk about remaking a song and pulling out the meaning. Having the honor of hearing that life at VIP, I swear I was transported briefy to another place. Somehow, David seems to be able to feel the lyrics and music and not only get them but translate them to us. If music was a foreign language, David is our translator.
I am pleased that I’ll be home for Christmas made the list. While some of the traditional songs on the list may have been done alot, I know that hearing David sing them, they will feel brand new.
Happy Saturday to those in the Western Hemp… and wellcome to the new people.
oops= welcome…
Has that video been posted here from when David was in Malasia with the birds? It is so adorable. I will post if it is not old news.
Here it is…( Abbra sorry about the spamming)
ABRRA at #246 -- Mother’s Lullaby — most probably and actually, very apt, the duet of David and Charice
Listen to this version by Meryl Streep
Or the traditional but lovely rendition of The Corries (live)
LYRICS:
THE GARTAN MOTHER’S LULLABY
lyrics by Seosamh MacCathmhaoil (Joseph Campbell)
Sleep O babe, for the red bee hums the silent twilight’s fall,
Aoibheall from the grey rock comes, to wrap the world in thrall.
A leanbhan O, my child, my joy, my love my heart’s desire,
The crickets sing you lullaby, beside the dying fire.
Dusk is drawn and the Green Man’s thorn is wreathed in rings of fog,
Siabhra sails his boat till morn, upon the Starry Bog.
A leanbhan O, the paly moon hath brimmed her cusp in dew,
And weeps to hear the sad sleep-tune, I sing O love to you.
Faintly sweet doth the chapel bell, ring o’er the valley dim,
Tearmann‘s peasant voices swell, in fragrant evening hymn.
A leanbhan O, the low bell rings, my little lamb to rest,
And angel- dreams till morning sings, its music in your breast.
Pronunciation:
Aoibheall -- (EE-val) Meaning: the name of the queen of the northern fairies
leanbhan -- (LYAN-uh-van) Meaning: little child, baby
Tearmann -- (CHAR-uh-muhn) Meaning: tearmann = sanctuary, refuge, or church land, name of village near Lough Gartan
Siabra -- (SHEE-vra) a prankster class of trooping fairies, also spelled Shefro or Siofra.
XARIS at #252 -- Am guessing the boy’s choir track would be for Riu Riu Chiu
Didn’t David or Richard say there was one original song that was going to be on the album? Makes me wonder about the accuracy of the list. Sorry Abrra and also Malaysia!
I cannot spell & the tiny keyboard makes it worse- as my daughter hijacks the desktop.
SF on #253 -- my bet is Ave Maria too
raelovingangels on #258 -- I know why! Cos the original song will appear as a bonus, probably in the WalMart version or as an iTunes download only. You know -- some convoluted promo packaging to drive us crazy. hehehe
Oh my: David’s last tweet.
1, Yep- proof that David is human after all. “bugging me”
and
2. He does not like his stuff messd with.
3. And I do I sense a tad rebelliousness against “authority”.
4. Does not like to feel helpless.
5. Loving it.
So excited for this CD. Nice mix of traditional and not-so-much.
Would imagine this is the first of many Christmas albums for him.
skiffrower, your from New England lol! Great name!
I think he has a great dry wit as you said, including the steam room tweet and Cook tweet! He likes to poke fun at himself. And he has great deadpan delivery!
Looking on YT and found this stunning version of Ave Marie. Someone posted yesterday they believe it is the German singer, Barbara Bonney. Can’t wait to hear David. This is gonna be one honey of a Christmas album.
raelovingangels#260
I have cherished this pic of David at an airport for some time.
It’s like he’s sayin, “Dude, don’t mess with my stuff.” lol.

This from FOD…So back to the drawing board!
“Christmas from the Heart” Tracklist “Not Correct” According To Our Source…
Our very reliable source tells us that this list is “not correct.” They did not say which songs are correct and are not correct. They said nothing but “NOT CORRECT.”
We cannot name this source, which is bound to irritate many of you, so this will give you something to talk about today, sigh.
HI TDC! Angelica -- #262. You just killed me -- that version of Ave Maria completely knocked the wind outta me. And then of course, I imagined David singing it and then I done died again.
Thanks
Finally, since yesterday, each time i try to log in here my computer is freeze…well anyways GOOD MORNING EVERYBODY!!!!
Happy to see we have a possible track list from the Christmas album to speculate….i glad to see some of my fav. are there..i hope this is not the final list ,if i understand Jive has some producers too for the Christmas album…i guess the pop side of the album (just saying).
Not happy at all with the choice of the spanish Christmas song, i was hopping a spanish traditional song to target the latino fans and market..oh well i guess i gonna wait to see if maybe on the bonus tracks they gonna add something for this market. BYE!!!! Have a good saturday!!!:)
Here’s momJulee’s hilarious deconstruct of David’s latest Vlog..and read while you’re at it, read “The Adventures of Spicy Nacho”. Soooo funny!

Angelica, thanks for the info on “Forever Young.” Just shows how wide Bob’s influence is.
I’m surprised (pleasantly so) by the preliminary Christmas tracklist. (Btw, Rodze has given some pretty reliable information in the past.)
Some interesting choices I haven’t heard of before, and it would be interesting to hear if he puts a Latin twist on Riu Riu Chiu. Also interesting to see that the more obscure ones will end the set -- you usually want to end strong. We must certainly will hear David take on different languages.
But my biggest reason for being excited is that some shoo-ins are not there (Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas, The Christmas Song, which he sang during the Jingle Balls), and I take this to mean that they’re planning to do more Christmas CDs in the future! Hoping I’m right!
Even so, this of course is awesome! Ave Maria??!?!?! Dios mio, this is just too much, just too much!
EXTRA VID from ALASKA: David Talks about Hair Styles! thanks to therock81490:
Bahahahahaha!
From therock81490 “David was making conversation between songs, mainly about the weird hair styles people had. One kid had a purple and green mohawk. Another girl had blue hair in a [to quote David] “Princess Leia” style. i dont think i got to see the last person he mentioned but it was cool to see him talking with the audience.”
