What’s With Mr. Twitter?
Silence is Not Always Golden
Possibly it’s still to come, and far be it from me to admonish The Archuletor, but I confess my patience is being ever-so-slightly tested waiting for David to tweet something about the cancellations.
I realize it hasn’t even been 24 hours, but the speed and accessibility of digital communications today makes hard to justify any silent delay in this case. A simple, “so sorry, guys, it couldn’t be helped,” or some such would have sufficed.
Perhaps Disney instructed David and Demi not to say anything beyond the official announcement, but I don’t suspect David would allow even a multi-billion dollar organization to dictate how he handles his fans. He well knows that many of them are likely to have more than tickets at stake — travel plans and expenses, accommodations, gift purchases… I don’t think Demi’s fans travel the country like Deadheads, but I know David’s fans do.
David, you’re so happy you got your voice back — why not say a little something, hmm?

They have been showing their true colors since Walt left years ago and now they are promoting teenagers who are not as musically inclined as they need to be. I don’t tend to put much stock in these things, but from one of the online dream dictionaries:
Orange
Orange denotes hope, friendliness, courtesy, liveliness and sociability.
If an orange vehicle is breaking down, causing frustration, one might interpret that as having difficulty remaining positive and upbeat in the face of circumstances — indeed, circumstances “on the road.”

I don’t personally blame Demi. I understand those who are unhappy with her, but to me she signed her life away to Disney when she was too young to make good choices, and I doubt that she had any control whatsoever. I *do* blame Disney. Have heard stories about how they work their young stars. So to me, the orange car is Disney.
I’m not expecting a tweet from David about this. Not his gig. I have no doubt whatsoever that he feels somewhat responsible for fan disappointment but he has probably been told to let management/promoters do the talking.

I think David will be very careful about what he does and does not say, a ticked-off Disney could be very bad (and it is just not his form anyway.) But he has this ingenious way of subtle communication -- through words, actions, non-words and
non-actions. Pretty cool.

And I agree with KathyH, too. I’m trying to think of Disney characters that David might like who are orange.
As for whether David’s label is asking him to be silent on this, I believe David should just tweet anyway. Even if it’s in his contract or not, would a judge seriously make David forfeit a substantial amount of money because David apologizes to his fans? Doesn’t that sound like a news headline?
What’s more, would his label want to threaten its relationship to David over such a triviality? The label needs David at least as much David needs the label.
Does David a need a lawyer? Because I know somebody…
As for dream interpretation, I’m not really big on a lot of the conventional analysis.
If I were to guess, I’m thinking that his dream is tangentially related to being followed by the paparazzi. Wanting to get somewhere, but can’t.

Nice work on the dream interpretation. Could be spot on. In Jungian theory the car denotes one’s power. If someone else is driving, you have given your power to them. David is in the driver’s seat, but the car is unsound and keeps breaking down on him. So this could reveal that he is in control, or wants to be, but the vehicle he is using to navigate to his destination is broken and will not get him where he wants to go.

Let’s also remember that he is now working on new song selections, recordings, collaborations, production — a process that was very frustrating for him last time around (more so than he ever let on or reported). He is the product, he is the one who is out there — in the driver’s seat — but the supporting mechanisms may be failing him…

But what I want is something, anything from David regarding the cancellations. Just what rascal is saying. I know David cares, but is it asking too much to know he is aware of how we are feeling. OK, I know he is aware and all that and I’m not being clear about what I want from David right now. I guess I don’t want to see that he’s going about business as usual when I’m, WE are having issues processing how this all came down. Am I asking too much? I will not be out any money for the cancellations so it’s not about money with me. I want David to know and acknowledge our disappointment. I want to FEEL his disappointment too. Does that make me a bad fan?
Perhaps he is contractually prohibited to do so SF.
But from his last twit: he used the word “irritating”. I think that’s the 1st time he used it? I may be wrong of course… but to me it speaks volume esp when I take the tenor of his 1st 2 twits together, in the light of what is happening.
No matter what anyone has ahead of them, the real concern is the now…and how it is handled to make sure that you take the next step appropriately, never missing a beat.
Perhaps people should sit down and think of their capabilities and what they are capable of doing within any sane reasoning. This tour was advertising for Demi Lovato for her Disney profile, but the tour for David was the ultimate art of performing for his fans who know and love his music.
Both David and Demi are teenagers, not long on this planet yet. How much business sense can be acquired in that short length of time while most of the time is spent in practicing the vocal instruments and acting etc.?
There would be I am certain, business people of high business morals and ethics managing these teens. So, my question is where is David’s spokesperson, if there is such a person? Can a young star be expected to address his fans without a spokesperson guiding him to write an apporpriate statement, no matter how simple it is at this time? When do you ever see that?
rascal and ronald…he might be sitting in a bed of roses if he had people like yourselves, who could assist him at this crucial time. David should have applications for the position, never mind his producers or managers who are away on vacation, I believe. I would probably sleep better at night so to speak, if he had such an amazing team working for him…

You’d think my beloved dog died..oh yeah, my beloved 17 yo lab, did die of old age in her sleep on 8/1 and I miss her. But some people don’t get that a person can grieve for a pet so I never said anything. Today, I’m feeling sorry for myself so what the heck. I’m just putting it all out there.

With all due respect, I think your assumption of David and Demi being surrounded by entertainment industry “people of high business morals and ethics” is naive at best. The business culture in this country is increasingly driven by a single ethical and moral principle: profit. One upon a time, this perfectly legitimate capitalist principle was dimensionalized by many other principles and standards — customer fidelity, fair play, honest dealings, reasonable margins, etc. Personally, I hate the idea of government regulations, but when main street business ethics erode to such a point where no one can get a fair shake anymore, what choice do we have? Similarly, I would argue that there was once a time in this country when regardless of what it might have meant to the bottom line, an artist and their promoters would never have canceled commitments other than for acts of god or medical emergencies. How about the principle of “the show must go on”? That’s apparently gone, now, too.

I’ve often wondered if David isn’t just a little passive/aggressive in his communications to fans -- wanting us to know things he’s upset about, but not wanting to come out and say it outright. It would fit his character. The dream tweet is a classic frustration/anxiety dream in my opinion. And orange? Wow! That definition from the dream dictionary is more than interesting!
Dear rascal…that was said tongue in cheek so to speak, but I failed to come across that way. But what my statement did do is have you explain exactly how it is…exactly. I am not naive in business with morals and business ethics, as I saw the writing on the many walls years ago and had portions of my business end successfully before another very large country was changing the face of business in North America. A great deal of appropriate business ethics and high standards of business morals have disappeared from most walks of business life…

I would guess we will hear some form of a statement from David at one of the remaining VIPs. Someone is bound to ask him about the situation and it will be interesting to hear how he responds.

David was sick, his voice almost gone, had severe allergies, had a bothersome red eye..but he did not cancel. He had solos and he could have cancelled. He didn’t. The shows did go on. We could tell the difference in his vocals as we know David’s voice intimately, but those who don’t would never have guessed he was not at 100%. The Show did go on.
Integrity, love & appreciation for his fans is what David is about..so it makes this doubly hard to take…this silence.
momJulee, you are right about David being passive/agressive. I love David and what he’s done for me and I love his sweetness, his compassion, his love for all things, for the way he finds the good in everyone & everything…but I would not be offended if just one time he would show a little anger or frustration over situations he has no control over. Like now, for instance.
momjulee — I don’t know if I’d call it passive / aggressive as much as perhaps enigmatic, but regardless, I don’t think it’s intentional. Indeed, I’ve observed a number communication occasions that were rather eyebrow-raising from the standpoint of how much was actually revealed (and in certain cases even things that he might be consciously unaware of, but which are abundantly clear to anyone with any analytical insights), and it always seemed clear to me that David could not possibly have been fully aware of it, or I don’t think he would have said it.
On the other hand, he is a songwriter, and lyrics are the stuff of metaphor and reference and enigma… It’s a little hard for me to imagine a fully intentional effort to convey something specific through, say, a random tweet about a dream, but I suppose it’s possible. It would certainly add a rather remarkable dimension to his personality if it is so.
You know, I have to say: I would respect him more if it turned out to be his decision not to say anything about the cancellations. I might not agree with that decision but I would respect it. If it turns out to be because he was instructed by Disney not to say anything, then I’m seriously disappointed.
At some point and to some degree, David has to get over his always-play-by-the-rules mentality. Not all the rules are fair, not all the rules are in your best interest, and it is by no means always right and correct to follow the rules.
“I know how you feel, guys, and I’m sorry you had to change your plans” is not going to jeopardize anyone’s PR, tell any stories out of school, or tweak any executive’s noses.
Grow a pair, Archuleta. Break a rule, fercryinoutloud.
I have to admit that I think some people think David owes them so much! I was thinking about how he has handled other unpleasant situations (when he has not been the one in control of the situation)…where he had to just go about business as usual and let the negative situation resolve itself. This isn’t his fault, he would do anything to correct it if he can, but he has learned that sometimes -- things are as they are -- so just keep going. Now I would suggest that you all know that David cares…why do you feel he has to tell you that. You know his heart…accept what you know he would feel and move on.
He may mention it on a vlog or blog but he may think that rescheduling is the best they can do (since he is not in the drivers seat). Regardless…Disney owes the apology. David is as much a victim of these circumstances as you are. Are you telling him how sorry you are for the inconvenience Disney has put on him or your demands put on him?
Oh, yes, a ten-word tweet expressing some acknowledgment of sympathy is really asking waaaaay too much. Who do we think we are, anyway?

I love the support you all give David. Just sad to see how bogged down everyone can get thinking that something is owed to us (on our timeframe)…when David is probably as frustrated as anyone. He always tries to keep things positive…we should too.
We do not know yet, who are the victims of these circumstances. We do know, that statements of explanation are usually given by now involving the performer, in regards to his performance or performance cancellations. David is an individual with his own fans and is not a part of Disney in any way…let me find the bells and whistles here!
Anyone well known in the world of entertainment would have this addressed by now, in whatever means it would take. This isn’t “whistle while we work” and forget that it has happened…I did like Disney at one time or other…

Connie, David may or may not realize it, but he is playing an increasingly big part in the emotional life of many of his fans. We are not just going to a concert,we are there to experience his art but more importantly, “him”. Many fans plan for the experience for months with anticipation and giddiness.It is very painful to have the long anticipated event come to an abrupt and unceremonious end. No one is “demanding” anything from David, but it would be of some comfort to know that David feels our pain. That’s all.

I am really going to be gone after this blue butterfly appears once more…
Is it possible that we have missed just how exhausted and burnt David has been? Is it possible that he did need to lean on someone quite badly like Ashlee and that is why she appeared and for so long? Has he been crippling along? We knew that it was a tortureous schedule before it happened. Perhaps both teenagers have had too much to deal with for too long. Believe me, I am not making excuses for the lack of communication or the results being the cancellations. Is it also possible that he has been given a lot to do with his upcoming preparations for his next CD? When there are so many facets to his world maybe they have overlapped. Maybe just maybe the next two concerts are all that he can physically deal with…He may be tired himself of the same songs, possible?

SB -- Disney cancelled (or rather rescheduled) the last three concert dates so that Demi can start filming Camp Rock 2. (Not fond of the Disney machine.)

Iloveallaccess is emailing all VIP ticket holders informing us that our VIPs will automatically transfer to the new date, OR if unable to attend, a refund will be given, but the request for the refund must be requested no later than tomorrow.
What about those who aren’t sure yet if they can make it in two months? if they don’t request a refund by tomorrow, will they be out the money since they have a no refund/exchange policy?
I’m not sure I want to go to a Sunday “afternoon” concert in AC. I want some time to think about it, and since I’m not being given the time, I guess I’ll have to ask for a refund.
Don’t know about Manchester either! What a dilemma…

Occasional controversy is good for a blog community, and I will admit to driving my points home in a slightly more dramatic fashion now and again because of it, but that’s not the genesis of my position.
David is, in my view, at a critical point in his evolution toward taking more control of his career, his public persona, his market relationship, his music, his work, his art. I see this situation as possibly something of a test, a watershed, to see how far he has come in that regard.

I don’t see David as exhausted or burnt out. I didn’t see that at all. His voice was but -- it’s good now. He just needs to take care of it. He knows how.
He also went for a run at 5 a.m. in Grand Rapids. Alone. If he was exhausted, I don’t think he’d have been up for it.
At the Clarkston VIP, he was unafraid to say no to the song suggestions thrown at him that he just didn’t feel like singing. Didn’t want to sing “ONE”. No. Didn’t want to sing “Imagine”. No. Didn’t want to sing “Desperate”. No.
No prevaricating -- just a nice “No”.
I keep remembering more things. Better get them down before I forget.
I wish I could just ramble my entire experience out to an incredible writer and have them do my recap. Maybe I’ll journal it and pick out the best parts. I thought this would be a breeze. Turns out it’s not.

I met a really sweet woman from Florida that I spent two days with. She stayed at the same hotel as David and the band. The Mariott. She was talking to the valet on Monday. He asked her where she was from, what she was doing in GR, etc. She told him she was there to see David in concert. He said “David Archuleta? Right, the singer. He was up early and went for a run at 5 a.m.”
She didn’t see David but saw the band members, Ray, and Kristen as they were checking out of the hotel, pre-concert, about 11.
She had heard that they drove all night Saturday to get there. And he did have a fireside somewhere in Michigan.
Betsy, Thanks for the info! So he was very near me all day Sunday. I guess if I really wanted to I could have checked out an area church. I am certain that he visited a church in Grand Rapids on Sunday.
I have to admit. Its days like today and feature columns like this one and the remarks that are made that make me say “oh for pete’s sake” especially with the choice of photo above, allergy red eye and all. Poor kid. Expectations…
Why would Disney instruct him not to say anything? It’s obvious shows were cancelled -- can’t just ignore it. I don’t get what the point of a communication ban would be.
A tweet would be easy to do, but I would be more alarmed if he makes no mention of it elsewhere -- a VIP or at a concert. He’s only got 2 shows left. Maybe he thinks a short tweet wouldn’t do it justice. Maybe he’ll blog or vlog about it. Who knows? Maybe he just hasn’t focused on it with everything else he has to do. Plus, though he is great to his fans, I really don’t think he has any real idea of the minute by minute angst fans go through over every small occurance. He may be thinking that since the shows have been re-scheduled, there’s no need for panic and all is good.

I like to assume that he is a little more conscious of what he writes (and doesn’t write) than might seem at first glance. Maybe half-consciously passive/agressive?? is that possible?
We’ve seen evidence that he’s losing a little of the ‘passive’and moving nicely into ‘assertive.’ That reply tweet to the girl who thought his “me likey” phrase sounded dirty was a watershed in my opinion. And his refusal to sing/do everything fans ask him at VIP’s IS strangely good to see. We’ve known forever he’s no pushover.
Now if we could just get him to sing the “Archie twitters” song. . .

Momjulee -- I loved that he said “no” to the requests at VIP as well. Just the day before in GR, he kept asking “what else” instead of saying no. When “God Blessed the Broken Road” was suggested, he said “This isn’t a very country-ish state” and let it go at that.
My two cents here, I was expecting too some message ,not really from David, but from Davids people, i mean he has a lot of people behind him his managers and i hope his publicist.
He’s 18, he’s a teenager , teenagers have a lot of energy, i really don’t think he burn himself or he’s extremely tired or he’s the poor kid or guy. He’s on the business now and his schedule and work is not different to another rising star. when he has free time he find the way to be occupied (his choice), so is normal and this will be his life style for the 2 or 3 next years.
To say I’m disappointed in the concert cancellations is an understatement. But it’s the VIP that was the driving force for me, not the David/Demi show. I already saw the show in Newark and have been following the daily youtubes and cellcasts. I was looking forward to finally meeting
THE VOICE in person!
For anyone thinking of getting a refund, please think again. By October/November, you know as well as I that we will be in complete Archuwithdrawal and would welcome any kind of show where we could see David singing live…up there, onstage, singing to us. It works for me! And for anyone with VIP tickets, I understand that would be the icing on a very delicious piece of cake.
This is a no brainer for me. I’m keeping my AC tickets.

David has spoiled us by constantly communicating with us on a daily basis through twitter, vlogs and blogs. So it’s not unrealistic to expect a comment from him. Although the silence is frustrating, I trust that when he is ready and able David will express how he feels. He never disappoints.

Disney has for many years been well known in the entertainment industry as excessively controlling — down to details and minutiae that seem both unreasonable and irrational. Anyone who has worked with Disney (as I have) learns how foolish and pointless it is to try and figure out why they do what they do. They are Disney. End of story. There could be a hundred reasons or none why they would tell Demi and David not to say anything (including, I’d wager, specifically twittering) about the situation, and considering that neither of them have in fact said anything is proof positive to me that this is precisely what has happened.

And I would like to think David outmaneuvered it by his strangely cheerful “good morning good morning” tweet — which seems to be his way of saying he is not allowed to say anything of substance — and then by tweeting about the dream of a broken orange car. Pretty clever, isn’t it?
debra5354 #58 — all due respect but there’s that nannying again that makes me cringe — please spare us the “poor kid” routine. I know there’s a lot of maternal instinct running rampant on these boards, but that isn’t gonna help the guy one iota in the merciless world of the entertainment industry. David absolutely has to take responsibility for his public, and should be called out when he fails to do so. Doesn’t mean we don’t love him unconditionally, but caring for someone sometimes means telling it like it is. It’s also known as respect.

Funny, the same possibility occurred to me about that first tweet -- second tweet sequence. I suppose it is certainly possible that he meant for us to read so aggressively between the lines, although I still say it’s a long shot.
One thing I do know — the chances that the guy who asked, “where did they all park?” is now suddenly oblivious to the hardships endured by his fans are pretty slim.
It will be interesting to hear what comes out of the VIP session tonight. It’s very likely that the fans in attendance will raise the subject of these cancellations to David or Kristen, Ray, Mike or anyone that is part of the tour crew.
I was so surprised by David’s tweets today, and yes to be honest, frustrated and disappointed and I’m not even one of the many who are affected by this royal screw around. I know that David must be inundated on his twitter by heartbroken fans about this, so how can he not respond in anyway?
I suppose in this instance, for me anyway, silence would have been better than the cheery twitters we’ve received so far. I’m not mad or upset with David, but I do wish he would say something here for the fans.
Well, I was cheered by the tweets today, and I don’t need an apology from David for circumstances which I believe have nothing to do with him, and in fact which probably screw up his life quite a bit, too. Not saying anyone else is wrong for feeling the way they do. Only that I don’t share those feelings and opinions.
I think my problem is that there is an expectation building here, and if he doesn’t happen to do as suggested and tweet an apology, more disappointment is piled on top of disappointment.
KathyH…In the entertainment industry, there is a course that is taken which includes common courtesy and respect for the audience. It is not expectation building, it is like the action of breathing in and out…Making a public apology would simply be common courtesy. Passing along information at tonight’s VIP would be inappropriate, unless his hands are tied otherwise…
David either has been given no advice, obviously does not have a public relations person, or has been ill advised at this time.

As I read SF’s post about the gifts and tour bus problem in Hershey (and I gotta believe David wanted to get that word out) it occurred to me that David may be as befuddled by all this as we are. He, like many of us, may be scrambling to rearrange travel and work schedules. I am sure that when the dust settles we will hear from David, maybe in a uniquely David way….but we will hear.

Not sure why so many are harping on David about responding to the cancellations. It is quite obvious that he has been asked not to address the subject. Really, does anyone think that he is in any way, shape or form, so insensitive or oblivious to the situation that he wouldn’t have responded if he could have?

This is a perfect opportunity for him to step up and “own” his fans. David is a music prodigy. An old soul. Wise and mature beyond his years. But he is still 18 and inexperienced in many things. No doubt he still needs to learn and grow as a public figure. A few words of acknowledgment and sympathy in a situation like this will really go a long way.
bj, I’m sure we will find out soon if he was asked not to discuss it at all or is using cheerfulness as conflict avoidance.
bj, I respectfully disagree that anything is obvious here. If anyone can give me a logical reason why Disney would put a gag order on David or Demi making any statements about the cancellations, then I’ll try to see the merit in this argument. It doesn’t make any sense to me at the moment. What is the damage done if David says he feels badly for the fans affected by this? I’m not expecting any explanation from David for things that are beyond his control, but he hasn’t even acknowledged that anything out of the ordinary has happened.
I will always be a fan of David’s and I place no more expectations on him than I do any other human being. I don’t put him on a pedestal, or believe he’s from the heavens (maybe from another planet at times) but I have to be honest and say that I would be dismayed if this is just glossed over. It’s not the disaster of the century by any means, but to some, it’s a very tough blow.

The telltale sign to me, since David has not uttered or twittered a single word on the matter, indicates that he has been told not to say anything, perhaps for a limited time, perhaps he was told not ever.In the entertainment business the circle is pretty close and one does not ever want to point fingers at fellow entertainers and/or promoters. I would think that Disney, with it’s heavy hand has “suggested” to David that they would like him not to say nothing about the subject. Why else would David not have responded. Here is a guy who has shown himself to be nothing but gracious and empathetic to his fans and supporters. He knows how disappointed and put out so many of his fans are. He knows that there we many people coming from far away to see him. There is no way in heck that he would not have responded in some way unless he was asked not to.
If David’s dream about a car that breaks down is not a dream born out of frustration, I would eat my hat, or rascals hat. When I am extremely frustrated with something or someone I have dreams of frustration. He has had his voice to deal with recently and now this. I don’t think he manufactured this dream to send a message, I believe it was real, and I think he knew posting it sends a message.
You could tell from his vlog that he was looking forward to the rest of this tour. I bet he is disappointed too.
I certainly hope Disney does something to help with the extra expenses this will cause David. His band is out there and with him NOW. They are ready to do this NOW. There equipment is there NOW. I am positive David cares about how disappointed we all are about this abrupt cancelation and I feel bad for him. He has dealt with all past cancelations by trying to reschedule whenever possible. I give up..I will go to the rescheduled concerts. I love David & the person he is. I love David The Voice. So I can’t help myself. I am still hurt, yes that’s the word, hurt, that david has not acknowledged how the cancelled venues have affected his very loyal, forever, unconditional fans. But I am giving David the benefit of a doubt as it does appear there may be a gag order in place. If that is the case, we will find out one way or another. The VIP in Fairfax was over long ago..if he kept mum about it, especially if he was asked about it and didn’t answer, then he was told not to discuss it.

In Fairfax..there were very few VIP fans. Doesn’t look like anyone asked David about the cancellations and I’m thinking they may have been told not to ask him about it prior to David coming in to the VIP. Not saying this is what happened, but seems likely if there’s a gag order in place. IMO

At 18, one-year into the cut-throat recording business, I don’t know that I would want to be burning any bridges, especially one with an arm as long and mighty as Disney; and yes, I would do whatever was asked and expected of me as long as I had a contract with them, whether I liked it or not.
Five to ten years down the road, maybe a different story.

When David felt he had let his fans down with his appearance on Idol this season, he was swift and definitive with an apology and promise it will “never happen again”. As bj and others have mentioned there is plenty of anecdotal evidence that David appreciates and values his fans and all they have done for him. I am sure he would say something if he could. I am also sure he will say something when he can.

I have been thinking about the silver lining in the cancellations. I keep thinking how David “gets better by the hour” in his performance skills and confidence. Two months from now we will get the new and improved David! I am sorry for those who were stressed out by all this. It really didn’t bother me personally, as long as the shows were rescheduled. All I can think about is how much more exciting it will be seeing him then. The other thing I was thinking about is the set list. By late October, the new CD will be out. A mix of pop and “semi-Christmasy” songs would be a welcomed change.
I never expected David to come out with some kind of acknowledgment of the cancellations. It’s not his call.He is a young performer not a PR spinner.(/duck) Nor do I think he would deflect responding if asked directly by a fan.

I’m not surprised David has chosen silence. This is classic David (To Kathy Griffin: “So, do you sing?” or how about the “noisy hotel guests” during Reikigate?). Would it be great if he broke the silence to let fans know he feels their pain? Of course!
But, that ain’t gonna happen, at least not in a straightforward way. And we already know he feels our pain, don’t we?
Sure, David may have to “grow a pair,” but he just might get bruised in the process. Need I remind everyone who he’s dealing with?

I agree--a simple statement would have been a gracious gesture. There is nothing wrong with expecting some type of even simple response. I was not affected by the cancellations, but I know of many fans who spend hundreds of dollars and took vacation or sick days off of work to attend. David is talented, but he’s also 18 and his age does show here (just like my incoming college freshmen next week!).

Abrra, I have to say something now, and I may get flak for this, but you know I love you & all the other great fans of David who LIVE in the general area of the rescheduled concerts. So for you all who LIVE within DRIVING distance, the cancelled and rescheduled concerts posed no big problem for you, but for the rest of us who made plane, hotel & car rental reservations for all three concerts, yes there is a problem and an even BIGGER problem of having to scramble to cancel everything. Some of us (though, not me) lost money due to flight cancellations. I want to make clear that I do not hold David responsible. It was “not up to him” he finally said. Being a fan of David is not like being a fan of anyone else. He’s special and I love him. But what happened TO his fans who continually turn their lives upside down in order to follow David was not right, and for David or his camp to not address our distress and disappointment in a timely manner was not right. Did he OWE us an explanation. Well, yes he did. More than was already given about scheduling conflicts..IMO. The only fans who seemed to “not have a problem” or who think we were asking too much, or expect too much, I think maybe didn’t have tickets to the cancelled concerts or live close by so it’s not a big deal. I was upset. I’m not going to apologize for being upset. I got over it pretty quick though and have made plans to attend all three rescheduled concerts…Before he tweeted that “it was not up to him”.
David finally responded to a tweet from a fan who happened to tweet him at the right time. Apparently David does not always look at all the tweets or replies he gets on twitter. If he did, he surely would have tweeted something earlier as there were hundreds of tweets questioning him today…IMO. So I guess there was not a gag order after all?
Just because I was upset, hurt & angry at the whole situation does not mean I am less a fan than any one else, or that my feelings for David and his artistry has diminished in any way. or that you who were not so upset have higher regard for him than I. Especially if you are able to go to the rescheduled concerts as they are within driving distance and pose no great hardship.
And in case you’re wondering..I like my tomatoes nice & firm.

None of what you say was lost on me. I was speaking for me PERSONALLY. I admire that so many fans travel and stay at hotels and so forth. I am unable to extend myself to those extremes. I do understand all the problems it causes when shows get canceled. I ain’t no KID, ya know? I wasn’t taking pot shots at anyone’s situation. I was trying to say that I was fine with it as long as they rescheduled the shows. That’s all. He doesn’t force us to do the things we do to see him. It involves some stress, for sure, to attend shows far from home. I want it CLEAR that I was not speaking because I can drive to the shows, but that I am glad they were rescheduled. I admire the stamina you folks show when you fly all over to see him. I can’t do that. Not even David can get me on an airplane.

excited for you that you may fly from the West Coast to the rescheduled concerts. I feel such a sense of loss for you all. Hope you can all meet up again as scheduled at the end of October/November.
Since it’s clear, now, that Mr. Twitter is not going to initiate any solid commentary about the canceled — sorry, rescheduled — concerts, I think we have to acquiesce to emmiegirl’s (#89) view of this. David has apparently decided that he does not yet have either the insight to know who he can piss off and get away with it, or the clout to not worry about it. The fact that he wound up making some oblique references in twittered replies makes the whole thing more — not less — troubling. Half measures in cases like this are always worse than nothing at all.
Look, I do take a hard line sometimes for dramatic effect, that should come as no surprise to anyone. And I do completely understand the view that David shouldn’t have to worry about any of this. All he should have to be concerned about is The Voice. But that requires having smart, reliable, loyal, trusted people around you to properly handle all the rest of the stuff, which is exceedingly hard to find in any industry, and more so in entertainment. David has only recently started divesting himself of the management dynamic that he was familiar with for all of his life. And although this is obviously a good thing, it will invariably take some time, and incur some missteps, before David has the right people, the right relationships with them, and a clarity about how he wants things handled.
Finally, he needs to be allowed to be 18. Who among us is not familiar — either from our own youth or from our experience as parents — with the ability of teenagers to be utterly oblivious to what the rest of the world thinks is terribly important? David has had a small string of somewhat rebellious revelations (not finishing school — whodathunk?!), and I for one count these on the plus side. Great artists have to be iconoclasts at some level. David may have chosen to break some fan rules rather than break some industry rules, or maybe he just ignored the whole thing out of sheer desperation or simple neglect. I am curious how folks can see both sides of David’s tweet conversations. I know that his time line shows his replies, but how can you see what others say? Short of following ever person on Twitter, I just don’t get it. Can you enlighten me? Thanks!

Abrra/147…I’m certainly no Twitter expert, but the way I can see what message David responds to is by clicking on the line below what David writes. When you are on D’s twitter page, in small text under each tweet message, there is a line giving info about what time the tweet was posted, like “about 4 hours ago from web in reply to Davidfan” If you point your cursor over the “in reply to” part, it will become highlighted. Click that and twitter will bring you to the tweet that David replied directly to.

Thanks for that. I never spend a lot of time at my PC looking through his time line. Most of my Twitter lurking is done via IPhone, which refuses to open web links through Twitter. I shall educate myself on the study of Time Line Research.

As of two days ago, I started following Alicia Keys, partly because I’m a big fan and partly because if I ever work up the nerve to actually tweet David myself, I don’t want him to think I’m some crazy stalker! haha!
I have not sent him any messages. I would if I really thought he would see it. My issues isn’t that he would see my tweet and think me a stalker, but more that the whole Twitter Universe sees it. That’s when I would feel a tad silly.

If Disney has some type of restriction, or ”gag order” as it were, in place preventing David and/or his team from speaking out about this debacle, it’s a defensive measure -- most likely in place to control the collateral damage and the fallout they knew was going to occur vis a vis these postponement/cancellation announcements… they are the sponsors of this tour, and would want to control, or attempt to control, the flow of information being released to fans, and the media…
It’s not uncommon for large corporations to have such things in place… my company has a policy in our handbook that prohibits anyone from speaking, on camera or in print, to the media in case of an emergency, or a disaster type situation… they want the pr team from corporate to control that information stream… that’s why I’m not holding David accountable for having to be the point man for releasing any statement about this, at this time.. this mess has been an inconvenience and a pain point for many of the fans, but Disney bears the responsibility for needing to have taken ownership of communicating this decision out in a timely manner…
David need not tell me his feelings about this matter -- I don’t know him personally, but suffice to say I think he does feel pretty badly about the whole deal.. no one who has shown himself to be as kind, considerate and responsive in times past to us could be anything less.

Disney fell down on the job by not supplying Demi and David with approved language to use in a twitter message. They ought to know that the relationship between a performing artist and their fans is very different than it was even five years ago, before the expectation of constant communication. The truth of the matter is that although Disney is just as controlling as they ever were, they are today (along with everyone else) no longer as well-staffed as they once were, and consequently not as buttoned-up as they once were. If this is indeed due to “scheduling conflicts,” that’s just another example of how the right hand no longer knows what the left hand is doing at Disney.
That said, my wish (but no longer my argument) would have been for David to have defied Disney and said something anyway. I’m fine with it, he defied his fans instead, and I certainly do not envy him his Sophie’s Choice.
whewwwwwwww -- thanks rascal! i don’t know why, but i always feel like i’m walking back into that same lecture hall for a rhetoric course with dr. heckel when i post here… he is a fiercely intellectual, demanding professor, and i grew to respect him tremendously -- after the rigors of passing the course, haha. so much so that i check in w/him from time to time for conversation or advice in my present career… he still makes my hands quiver though

Not sure why you are still busting David’s chops. In what way has David “defied” his fans? This is a Disney/Lovato tour, David is merely a “guest” and is really in no position to speak for Disney or Lovato, especially if he was asked not to. His restraint and good manners are admirable.
Thanks to this misstep by Disney in communication via fans, I now have a lesson topic for 11/11. Look forward to seeing what my students have to say about the situation and their favorite artists.

Thanks Abrra, but I think it’s plainly evident that bj hasn’t actually read my writing on this topic, because if they had, they would see quite clearly that I have been quite explicit about what David might have said to his fans about this, and it has nothing to do with Demi, Disney, or indeed any specifics of the situation whatsoever.

I have read all of your writings on the topic, in fact I have read pretty much everything you have written from Noting David through today. I just have a differing opinion from you when it comes to this subject. When you say that David has “defied” his fans instead of Disney you are suggesting that David has somehow slighted his fans, or has chosen to protect his professional standing with Disney over his fans. This makes me a bit uncomfortable only because of the clout you carry with the TDCers (as evidenced by Abrra’s post). Since you are one of the great admirers of David, and so respected here, do you really want to leave your followers with the impression that you think David is either weak or insensitive to his fans and supporters. Perhaps I am misreading the tone of your writings and you are not criticizing David’s non-response to the issue. What I am not misreading is your dismissive tone with me, so this will be my last post.
I’m sorry you feel that way, bj, but your argument that David is in “no position to speak for Disney or Lovato” indicates very clearly that you have either not read what I have written on this, or failed to comprehend it. My tone was not dismissive at all, merely factual based on my own observations.
In my view, David absolutely chose… let’s say, “safety” for his industry associations… over whatever sympathies he may have (which I’m sure he does) for his fans who got left in the lurch by this turn of events. I am absolutely criticizing David for his lack of comment. Personally, I think it’s indefensible. But I also said that I understand, that he’s still a teenager, that he is obviously allowed to make up his own mind and even make mistakes. I’m fine with it. I’m also allowed to criticize it.
I was expecting some message from Davids people yesterday, and tbh some spontaneous message from David about this all situation too, but all we today is a very timid twitter reply to a fan , but you know what at the end if David ‘has chosen to protect his professional standing with Disney over his fans’, is OK, suddenly that make me feel good about him and his new comprehension about what this business is and about the fact maybe in the futur he will take some decisions ,not necessarily the most populars between his fans, but the best for his career and in a long shoot for his fans too. I know many fans are very romantic about Davids career , but the reality is e need to keep his good relationships with the people who has the money to make the publicity, and that require to be smart and very good strategist in a very difficult business.

For as much as we all love David, sometimes we hold on too much to “pie in the sky” notions that he is above ctiticism at all. In this case I do not hold David responsible for the fallout of a Disney decision. It would be nice if he made a comment to address the fans and show personal “hutzpah” but it is not necessary. JMHO.
However,in the very near future he will no longer be that cute kid from AIdol who just loves to sing. He will be subject to more personal accountability as his career progresses.
I don’t believe David said anything at all when some of the earlier shows were cancelled, did he? I don’t think he did. Maybe someone remembers or knows. So it would seem consistent he feels there is nothing to say this time around either. He must have known fans were very disappointed the last time too (some solo shows were scheduled but not at every city that had cancelled shows I don’t believe).
That said, assuming there was indeed a Disney gag order of some sort, and it was a Sophie’s Choice kind of thing, he made a good choice. He knows his fans would forgive him for even “defying” them but what Disney would do is anyone’s guess, including his.
beebee I think from the other thread, just want to say I LOVE YOU for your correlating his broken down orange car dream with a distinct message to us, that others have continued to talk about. Most likely he could figure out what his own dream meant and chose to share it with his fans because as “passive” or “passive-aggressive” as this communication might be, I am of the opinion he was conscious of it being a cool way to express himself without saying anything. I’ve read this whole post and I’m just confused as to why only some are allowed to object, have a different opinion, or take part in “controversy”. Why are some praised for it and others rebuked? I’m not slamming anybody because I enjoy reading everyone’s thoughts and opinions, differing as they may be. And I think it is safe to say that most everything said here is just that, personal thoughts and opinions. I thought this was the place to do that. So, I’m just wondering at the two different standards. I hope I make sense and don’t sound ignorant, which I propably am here.
If I am allowed, I will add a few of my thoughts. Again, these are just “my thoughts”.
First of all, I am one of the few here who has never been able to go to one of David’s concerts or VIP. Yes, I’m very envious of those who can and enjoy reading everyone’s experiences of their encounters with David, and also the countless videos; makes me feel like I was there, so I appreciate that very much. And No, I would not be happy in the least to have shows cancelled that I had spent countless $$$ on, especially $ that I could not get back. Would not be a happy camper at all. And yes, if something like that happens it’s human nature to want someone to blame, or at least want acknowlegement, apology, sympathy, etc, whatever.
But then the reality side of this all is: Hey, that’s life! It stinks, get used to it. Everyone is expecting or wanting David to make some public apology or statement for something that is not his fault, something he had no control over! And like vermeer #164 said, to my knowlege, he has never made a public announcement for any of the other cancelled shows, so why now, especially since they have been rescheduled. No that doesn’t take into account those who made travel reservations, but again, that is the chance you take, there are never any guarantees. This is Demi & Disney’s show, David is just along for the ride. Of course he appreciates his fans, but he didn’t ask anyone to come to his shows, that is completely voluntary. It’s like, “come at your own risk”. And there are always risks involved in any venture.
Now if David had not been able to honor his commitment and cancelled his own appearances himself, or if this was his own tour, then yes, he should definitely let his fans know that and I’m sure he would have publicly apologized either by blog or vlog, no less. But again, why should he apologize for Demi or Disney. I feel he just didn’t feel the need because the shows were rescheduled or could be refunded. It’s as simple as that. I don’t think anyone roped or gagged him either, or pressured him into silence or anything so dramatic. And I don’t think he is showing his age or inexperience. I don’t think he is doing anything abnormal given the way the rest of the tour has gone. He’s gone above and beyond to honor his committments and shows that he had control over, ie by not even going to the TCA.
We all want him to stand up for himself, and even as much as we love his humility and modesty, I for one want to see him quit apologizing for everything. For heaven sakes he apologizes for everything. He starts rambling or singing in an interview or M&G and he says, “Oh, I’m sorry”. Two minutes later, “Oh sorry, haha”. I mean we love it, think it’s cute and all, but I really wish he would stop. I don’t want him to apologize for something that we all love! And I definately don’t want to see him apologize or make excuses for Demi of all people, someone who has barely acknowleged him this whole tour. I think any formal or public apologoy or acknowlegement on his part would be defending or apologizing for her and her management, which I don’t think deserve any such treatment. The ball is in their court and their responsibility. David did not cancel the shows, why should he have to say anything. I’m sure he thought the appropiate steps had already been taken and all that could be done was done.
Well, I have rambled about this enough. I’m not even sure of what I’ve said because I have been interupted several times so it probably doesn’t even make any sense or will just get ignored like every other comment I post, so I guess I have nothing to worry about. LOL.
On a practical note -- Possible scenario:
David has almost 200,000 twitter followers
Demi has 830,000 twitter followers
How many of their respective fans experienced disappointment at the show cancellations? 3 venues – 10,000 seating, tops? 30,000 fans?
Why tweat 1 million people with an apology that 3 shows were cancelled? Why plant a seed in prospective attendees minds that if you ever think about attending a show, it might get canceled? (individual response ‘tweats’ to specific people are different – they don’t go to everyone)
Yes, David and Demi’s myspace pages list the re-scheduled dates, but that information is ‘pulled’ by interested fans. Twitter ‘pushes’ messages to everyone. (Approximately 1 million people, taking into account some overlap between the 2 groups).
The VIP attendees and the Ticketmaster ticket holders were promptly notified.
Are people disappointed, yes, rightly so, but a prudent marketing strategy might take the numbers into consideration. I’m not necessarily defending the decision – just presenting a possible rationale.
Since many people have been wondering why there might be a ‘gag order’ I thought I’d present a possible explanation.
Oh yeah, just one more thing. I think what David should be apologizing for is being so dang loveable, incredible, beyond all reason, amazingly talented and gifted, and so life-threatening addictive that people from all over the world can’t get enough of him that they will follow him anywhere and spend untold $$$ to see him multiple times over and over, will upset their normal, everyday lives and revolve it around him, spending every waking hour on twitter, youtube, myspace, fansites, etc., and the list goes on…. Yeah, that is his only crime, or is it ours? We’re the ones with ODD. Would anyone else in their right minds do this? Do people do this for Demi, Miley, JoBros, or anyone else? I really wonder????
This is getting silly. The assumption seems to be that it would have been such a big deal if David would have made a simple expression of sympathy for affected fans. The truth is, it would have been nothing of any consequence to David, but it would have been of considerable consequence to some of his fans. It has become a much bigger story because he did (almost) nothing.

Wow, I am so with Rascal on this. This horse is now dog food, but my intial thoughts were, for one of the most considerate young man that I have even had a chance to observe, who worries about fans being squished in the front of a concert, coming in out of the rain and cold, reads every card, responds to fans who provides stamped envelope, and who knows people come from all over the world ( at my shows it was Japan)and who so appreciates his fans, it was downright out of character there was not a little expression of sorry for the inconvenience.
And as I recall those other shows were cancelled many weeks in advance not days before and David promtly set some solo shows.
So, yes, I sense some “don’t talk” about it. I will still love him, support him and not blame hi. But yeah, would love to have seen those mouse ears kicked through the goal post.
Not that I don’t like Disney,…just feeling a bit peeved.
I guess I just don’t like what I percieve as the “man” calling the shots, but know it is a reality.

First, let me say, thank you, and everyone else, for the kind words you posted on another thread about my Spicy Nacho video.
You say we wanted David to apologize. I never did. The previous shows were cancelled well enough in advance for some to be rescheduled as solos on or around the same date. Not so with these three final shows of the tour. I wasn’t going to any of these shows. But when the news broke, the collective hurt I read and felt coming from thousands of disappointed fans was more than my system could endure. I hurt for them and I had to come forward and let them know that I understood what they were feeling. That was all anyone wanted from David.
YJfanofdavid -- I read that little tweet too (“Last night I had a dream that I was driving a beat up orange car that kept breaking down on me. It was irritating haha.)
I totally thought the vehicle was the Archuvato tour. Hmm.

Oh no! The summer tour is now officially over. The withdrawal symtoms will be affecting all David’s fans like a virus. There is no cure, only remission. Or is it “submission”? Some of us are already suffering. Today was bittersweet as I drove to work this morning when I should have been flying to AC. It was depressing until I started making new flight reservations. I will be going to all to the rescheduled concerts, as a VIP! SB will be my partner in crime in Manchester & Providence. Woot! My sis won’t be able to make it though.
So who’s going “North to Alaska”? I checked the ticket sales and there are no reserved seats available..s/o!! Only GA or lawn area is available. And David was worried that he didn’t have any fans in Alaska! Silly man!
Followed the concert tonight on cell cast for a while, but Twitter gave better info, thanks in large part to Dawn! Thank you Dawn! Too bad the concert had to shortened, but David sounded really GOOD. Wasn’t crazy about the scarf though. Must have been a gift.
I’m wondering if David will be flying home to Kind of Utah, or possibly going to NY to do some recording since he’s in the area, or maybe LA? My hope is that he gets some R&R for a couple of days. But that may be wishful thinking.

Just back from the show and an after-show dinner with a bunch of lovely TDCers.
Random moments with David:
“I’ve never sung and watched a sunset at the same time.” (There was a breathtaking sunset behind the crowd, after a day of heavy rain and thunder.)
“That’s why I didn’t go out for sports!” (Apologizing for kicking a soft beach ball back into the crowd and inadvertently hitting a fan.) BTW he kicked the ball back in the freaking middle of an intense song.
There were some shenanigans at the end of his set. During Zero Gravity, a bunch of about 8 people came on stage -- kids, members of the opening band, maybe family members, all danced around. After the song ended, David said, “I’m a bit confused.”
During Crush somebody, maybe a crew member, sprayed what looked like shaving cream on Jerry, Mike and Dave. They were all laughing. I was wondering what would have happened if he had approached David, but thank goodness, that didn’t happen. They were all a bit giddy at the last show of the summer tour.
David was great tonight. In a set that was perhaps shortened by a song or two because of an impending storm, he sang the heck out of a bunch of my favorites including SOT and Works for Me. Wow, it sounds (from David’s response on Twitter) that Demi’s set was shortened due to the incoming storm. I am feeling very grateful that we got a nearly full set from David in absolutely beautiful weather with a stunning sunset to boot!

An article suggesting that Demi perhaps cancelled the shows so she can have a break. True or not, it’s interesting how this article gave David fans a chance to vent their anger towards her and/or Disney.

Interesting — I don’t recall David ever talking about a dream he’s had before. (Lord knows we’ve talked about ours though!!!) Well, my two cents…
Orange is the color of the third chakra, the focal point of one’s personal power, the power that enables one to reach for and achieve his/her goals. David is in his power when he sings — that much I’m sure no one would dispute! For him to be *irritated* that his “car” keeps breaking down on him is understandable in this context. Losing his voice would have been MOST unsettling to him. And the cancelled shows, now? DANG! That’s gotta hurt.

Good morning everyone!
Good Morning Everyone ~ I wanted to recap last night, but I just didn’t have it in me. We drove in some fierce storms both on the way there, and on the way home ~ my feet are killing me, but who cares.
I arrived at the VIP, there were about 175 people there, and I thought this was the biggest VIP EVER, turns out, ArchAngels, the rabid fans we are, lined up early at the ILAA banner, and the Demifolk assumed they should line up there as well. It should be noted at this time, never in my life have I seen so many 6 and 7 year old girls dressed in tights, miniskirts with assorted color hair highlights (pink,purple,blue) and knee high boots, in 89 degree weather (I am impressed with the impact she is having on today’s youth .. not)
ILAA let all the children in our VIP sit in front of the keyboard, I chose to stand towards the back. We could see him coming from riding his rollercoasters through the black curtain. He seperated the black curtains like a magician, and for once I saw him really embrace his role. He was fluid and never missed a step as he said Hi Everyone and sat down at the keyboard.
He was in no rush, but I think wanted to sit .. it was hot .. and we were in fact outside. This would have been the ideal place for someone to be able to hear the whole VIP without actually having to attend ….LOL.
David has his own version of Q&A time ~ as he polled us and asked US dozens of questions. He wanted to know how many were from out of state, then he wanted to know what state. How many are from New Jersey, how many are from Pennsylvania, how many are from New York, how many are from Connecticut, how many are from out of the Country. He really enjoyed the diversity.
Then it came to what do you want me to sing. Well this was a comedy routine all in itself. Heaven and Crazy were declined, and then he put his thinking cap on. As he offered up suggestion, the group had no problem telling him no. Repeatedly. At some point he said ~ this is a very opinionated group ~ it was an interesting thing to behold ~ because I don’t think he’s ever been told NO so many times in the same short time frame.
We finally selected I’ll Be .. which he did acappella ~ and his voice was deep and rich in the outside humidity. Then he moved into Angels ~ and it was equally stunning.
In the Q&A period for David, the last question was to sing some WYSYLM … which utterly … took the wind out of me. Pitch perfect he was .. no empty air time which sometimes happens in a less gifted artist.
Then he polled us some more, about who’s been to Hershey park before .. and some other questions. Then it was picture time. I will gather my thoughts and come back and post that experience seperately ~ I had the pleasure of making him laugh .. quite loudly it would seem.
Good morning! Liz and I are in Lancaster and on our way to NYC this morning. Given the cancellation of Atlantic City, Liz is going to stay at her sister’s and I’m going to get a chance to see my son who lives in NYC. So that’s that.
Last night… We arrived at the Star Pavilion around 5:30 and just as we started walking from the car to the venue, we heard the band playing the intro to Touch My Hand (sound check). We looked at each other, wondering if David was there, too, or what was going on -- it seemed late for a sound check, but no, David started singing on cue and we were serenaded by that lovely VOICE all the way to the entrance and for a few minutes more. (As is turns out we were distracted enough not to pay attention to where we parked, which made finding the car afterwards a little bit of game with me clicking the lock/unlock button on my key fob until we finally heard the horn of my car LOL).
I have to agree with Dawn -- I’ve never seen so much glitter since the last time I was in Vegas. Pink/blue/yellow/green neon striped knee socks, happy-birthday-Demi-paper-birthday-cake hats, pink hair, mini-skirts and short-shorts in sherbet colors and all on people under 4 feet 8 inches tall. The little kids were actually quite bored during Jordin Pruitt’s and David’s sets. (keep them home, please). Okay, I’m a curmudgeon.
Liz and I had great seats in Row 4 slightly on the right side of the stage. Jordin Pruitt (who has a pretty good voice but would make a better country than pop singer) played her set and finally …
thum thump…..thum thump…thum thump..thum thump then David….woo hoo
He was energetic, flirty, all over the stage, jumping, making those fists alternately with reaching out toward the crowd -- his VOICE was in awesome form.
When he did ALTNOY, he changed up the song, adding little runs, higher notes, lower notes….well, thanks to jaybeebehbee, you can hear it, too:
The whole set was fantastic, and I think it was the most energized I’ve seen him in a while. LOVED IT! We didn’t get Barriers or Apologize and it seems they cut his set, and Demi’s, short due to storms coming in.
Afterwards, a whole crew of TDC’ers met at an Italian restaurant (KT, Lorna, TOfan, refnaf, Sunshine, dfliz, rocketdog and her daughter, and me). After a couple of bottles of wine and a lovely dinner, and detailed analysis and stories about David, VIP’s, other venues, etc. we all reluctantly departed. One of the best things about David is the fans he attracts. What a cool bunch of people to befriend. Thank you, David, for bringing us all together.

First I have some really great pictures, but have to figure out a way to get them here.
I busied myself on Twitter ~ it seemed to calm my nerves, because when I watched him interact with everyone during picture time it made me more nervous ~ so I distracted myself with my own comfort zone.
My turn….
I casually strolled up to him and said Hey .. he said “Hey How are you?” So it set the tone ~ exchanging Heys instead of Hi ~ it seemed more normal like we knew each other.
But as soon as he said Hey how are you, I realized.. yup .. he remembered me (drats) .. so I said.. oh man .. you don’t remember me do you? I hope you don’t remember me? He said, “Why would you NOT want me to remember you?” (yeah, that does sound like a weird conversation after the fact) … in hindsight … but I said.. cause of the whole Invisible Children fiasco, I think every possible word came out of my mouth that day EXCEPT Invisible .. I made such a fool out of myself. He said “I wouldn’t worry too much about it, I make a fool out of myself all the time” .. and then I said “Yeah, But I don’t tweet about it” ..and he busted out laughing.
So he put his arm around me, and I put my arm around his waist, at some point realizing I had like a death grip on him (he’s squishy) and I said, is she gonna take the picture? He said, she did already .. I said oh .. okay .. but we were just standing there arm and arm looking around .. it was funny ..so then I turned to him and said .. oh .. my sister is down from upstate NY, this is the first time she’ll see you live.. he said “Oh Cool” .. and I said .. we are big fans of WFY .. so throw a few extra headwhips in there” .. he looked at me confused..and said “headwhips?” I said Yeah.. you really get going with them now (and I demonstrated) .. ( I seriously DON’T know what happens to me during our chitchats .. but apparently I have no limit to embarrassing myself) .. he goes OH .. and giggled .. but then I said.. David seriously .. your performances skills have come a long way .. you really get into it now ..it’s amazing and he said..”oh wow .. thank you so much” .. I said..you’re welcome .. I’ll see you later. ….. he said “see ya later” .. and my VIP was done

BTW..with Hurricane Bill causing problems for the eastern seaboard perhaps in hindsight, it may have been a blessing to have the concerts cancelled & rescheduled? But then again how bad is the storm really, if David is in Providence? I dunno?
I was VERY surprised to learn he was there this morning, but then I realized he was honoring his commitment to the 92 PROFM contest winners, even if it was a day earlier than originally scheduled. Keep in mind, David did not have to do this, IMO. Providence concert cancelled/rescheduled meant he could have cancelled this seemingly unimportant radio appearance. But this is not what David does. He follows through on his commitments. He showed himself to be a professional throughout this summer tour which should have had him listed as a Co-Headliner from the beginning.

Let me also say, with no assumptions this time, that David will NEVER say anything negative about anyone ever, especially not about a fellow performer. It’s just NOT who he is. However, why shouldn’t he say “It wasn’t up to me”? David has NEVER lied to his fans. He certainly will not start now just so as not to cast a bad light on Demi, so that was NOT his intention when he made that tweet. Anyone who “knows” David, knows that about him. He is not a perfect human being, has his faults I’m sure, but David has more integrity in his little finger, not to mention TALENT, than just about every, if not EVERY celebrity out there today. And YES he is THAT GOOD of a person and talent.

I am so glad David made the M&G today. WPRO-FM is a great supporter of his music. They STILL play Crush and Altnoy. Maybe not 2x a day like thay have, but both are definitely in their rotation. Props to dj Davey Morris who speaks highly of David when he talks up the songs. Davey, you will recall was the first dj to interview David and treat him with respect by asking meaningful questions. I believe the 4 part interview is still up on the WPRO-FM web site. That day also was the last time I saw David “in the flesh”

Abrra, so nice to see that station and DJ supporting David. I was really proud of my local newspaper reviewer who also gave David a respectful and open-minded review of last Monday’s concert in The Grand Rapids Press.

It is also encouraging. I mentioned weeks ago that when I was standing in the picture line in Las Vegas, I thought of you and the story of your first encounter with our star, but I never had the courage to share the exchange I had with David when it was my turn in front of the camera.
I was not the least bit nervous until David’s eyes were focused on me. What ensued after that was an embarrassing comedic fiasco that is constantly replayed in my head. Let’s just say that David was trying to engage ME in a real conversation about something I blurted before the shutter snapped, and I kept walking away like my feet were on zombie autopilot. He had questions and I gave the most inane monosyllabic answers possible. I must have been 10-12 feet away and he raised his voice a little to still call after me! Hours later I remembered every word of course, which only added to my humiliation.
Now here you are reporting on your very successful second encounter. You rebounded with grace and charm and wit. I don’t have the confidence to do anything like the head whip demo (LOL – loved that), but it might be worth another VIP for me just to apologize.

GranFan, you are so not alone on this. I wasn’t nervous either, that is, initially, but very soon I don’t know what happened to me, words were not coming out of my mouth. After the picture was snapped, it seemed like the next person was already been ushered forward, so I tried to get out of the way, by going in the wrong direction. Very stupid of me, as I’m trying to go right then left, David remembers something and says something to me about his mother, I looked at him and tried to say something and nothing came out! Boy that was silly.
