Yes!This is it..

"This level of thrill and deep satisfaction is only possible for a performer when technique doesn’t get in the way. And that’s a critical factor. Most contemporary singers use far too much technique. At worst, it’s showboating, mere pyrotechnics, and not only is it a poor substitute for true expression and connection, it is often the thing that obfuscates the possibility of connection in the first place. I’ve said from the beginning that beyond his gorgeous instrument and god-given talent, David’s genius is his unerring sense of taste. One of the things that makes this performance of Contigo en la Distancia so riveting is not what David does, but what he doesn’t do."

I also noticed a Tony Bennett~like swagger during this performance, his stage presence was stunning! I don't usually post here..just thought I'd share! Oh~Oh~Oh! David's tweeting...later ;)

Oh my goodness, no. I had not seen L.M.'s performance of CELD until tonight. But upon first listen, I find it borderline manic. Overly theatrical. Awkward. Almost like a male singer doing an impersonation of a particularly flamboyant female singer's version of the song. No thanks, amigo.

though his eyes are strikingly fixating - they were more in sync with the lyrics of the song, closed. For me, it makes the lyrics more meaningful as they were being sung to a love who is at a distance. I didn't see it as a flaw in his performance. IMHO.

jr - thanks for the video above. All the talk about Luis Miguel's version, piqued my curiosity. He's very talented, as well. However (and maybe it's just me) David's version was so beautiful & romantic - even before the english translations (yes!). Have an ache in my heart that won't go away...............

JR, thanks for posting the video of Luis Miguel's CELD now I have heard the three everyone seems to be comparing. Although Miguel and Aguilera have powerful voices, I perfer David's smooth, sauve, romantic, laid-back, jazzy, simple but swoonworthy, accoustic renditon.

RASCAL on #168 - haha, saw that in my inbox (have an email alert to anything that mentions DA) the other day but was reluctant to post the link here, esp when CRISPY started trolling... but yeah am having a blast reading the great feedback from non-core admirers.

About others not getting him or not getting us/our ODD :) - ah! I have never bothered to directly "recruit" anyone cos I know how frustrating that could be. I guess it is just like the X-factor - either you have it or you don't. In our case, its either we get it or we don't.

It is the same with others liking Luis Miguel's version of CELD. Didn't do it for me but I would not fault others for singing hallelujah over it. In case you have not seen it:

Am just thankful that I do get David and have you guys to share it with. Life has become immeasureably richer for it.

Found this great write-up on CELD over at davidbeyondborders.com (Is the blogger a commenter here at TDC already? I extended them an invitation! :) )

Check it out:

Boy oh boy. The magic of a Spanish love ballad at its best – just his beautiful voice acoustic-style, no need for back-up singers, band or fancy background arrangements. His pipes are so powerful and rich to represent the heavy gravity of raw, heart-wrenching emotions yet paradoxically, exude the tenderness of love and the fragility of a cherished relationship with a loved one in the distance. It makes you feel like you are falling in love all over again, with the floating light-headed giddiness thrown in, even if you don’t understand much Spanish – like me. In my case, it reminds me of distant, long-lost childhood dreams of finding one’s true love and (silly girly fantasies) of being serenaded by a handsome prince. And at 4:16, when his voice cracks to an almost rough, urgent whisper in “Contigo… Estoy” – as if he could barely restrain the outpouring of his love that is tormenting him – he has caressed the song to its fullest. At this point, I can hear the crunch of my own heart breaking, yet I still remain enraptured, with every cell within me soaking up every bit of this flawless moment.

According to digital spy, the ALMA Awards attracted a viewership of 2.21 million on ABC. I wonder how many hearts were stolen by David, along with mine.

Maybe I’m biased, but my #1 has some pretty cool things to say about David’s CELD, and this coming from an objective guy, says so much about David’s accomplishments -

“He oozes sexiness in this performance … look at his suit and swagger! I love David’s version much more than Luis’. Why? Because Luis’ version is like French fine dining, but David’s version is like home-cooked food that is simple but fully satiates your hunger. The beauty is in its simplicity, it’s not over-processed.”

marlie#183, yjfan#194 - regarding "people who don’t respond viscerally to music”. Am sure there have been studies done in this area - right? While listening to some of the other artists perform when I attended the David/Demi concert in Seattle, this thought entered my mind. Just wondered if what I was hearing was the same as the fans of these other artists. Unfortunately for me most of it was barely tolerable - felt like white noise. Sorry, if that offends anyone.

bliss#191 - "People do not appreciate being “sold” on something that they have already dismissed. It makes them feel manipulated, and they do not want the other person to “win” by coming around. It’s petty and stupid, but it’s also human nature."

thank you. That totally rang a bell for me. Now it all makes sense - esp. in regards to my husband, sister & middle son. They will not be maniputlated, only like to manipulate. Sad but sometimes life is very competitive.
