Is It October 13th Yet?
I am waiting, I am waiting, oh yeah, oh yeah.
Can’t get that old Rolling Stones song out of my mind.
While we twiddle our thumbs and listen to enticing snippets, and vent our angst over European countries getting the downloads first (I mean, come on, what’s with that?), here is a question to mull over. What is your favorite holiday album? What music do you and yours traditionally listen to during the holidays? I realize that not all of us celebrate Christmas, but since the CD that awaits us draws from the body of Christian traditional music, I hope that all of you will indulge us these questions.
I’m almost afraid to share mine, but here goes. My daughter has a thing about animals and somehow she got totally hooked on an album called “Jingle Cats.” Heaven help us, but it’s cats singing all the Christmas favorites. (The world’s first album of songs sung by real cats!) It wouldn’t be Christmas at our house without this CD, but thank goodness, it is blessedly interrupted by selections by Emmylou Harris and Palestrina. Okay, I’ve made my confessions, what are yours?

Back to the question at hand…
In my home, Christmas wouldn’t be Christmas without listening to The Carpenters Christmas Portrait album. Karen Carpenter had such a beautiful voice. I’ve often wondered what other musical gifts she would have bestowed upon us if she were still alive.
My fondest wish is that David’s album will become a holiday classic as well.
From everything I’ve been hearing, I think my wish may come true!

Joner, I listened to Karen Carpenter’s “I’ll Be Home For Xmas” on Youtube. If there ever was an artist who was able to convey warmth and tenderness like David, it was Karen. Karen’s untimely passing created a great void, and it has taken all this time for someone to fill it. It’s been well worth the wait, however. Karen was the best singer of her generation, and she has passed the baton, 26 years later, to a most worthy successor, Mr. David Archuleta.
Confession: I have OHN, JTTW, MOC and IBHFC already but have not posted them anywhere. Have always expected the duet to be the 1st to leak (weak smile).
LIZ -- aside from Ave Maria, am scared to see David perform Pat-A-Pan live. David speaking French -- be still my heart!
OMH…I’ve listened to only 4 songs and can’t seem to move past them. All 4 elicit different emotions in me that I can’t explain.
Live performances of any one of these songs is going to be lethal.

in an effort to limit and reduce the illegal downloading of this christmas cd, david’s sites are passing along the request to not post any links or files to the album, as it is very easy for these files to be ripped, and made easier for those inclined to illegally download them….. we won’t stop all of it, but we can do our part in not making it easy for those inclined to illegally download to do so… thanks in advance for your help…

I just listened to the whole album. Today, I finally understand the obsession I have for the past year and half. This album is David’s answer to the question of why we are obsessed with him. OMG!

I have to say, however, I do not really feel guilty about listening to the leaked songs because I believe people that have been listening this morning are the same people that have already pre-ordered and/or will be buying multliple copies. I just hope Amazon would hurry up and put the MP3 up already.

i hope so yjfanofdavid… information posted on open forums like ours makes it hard to know what some folks do with a lot of the info they find… illegal downloading is so rampant, and so easy to do now, and there isn’t much that can be done once it’s out there… david has worked very hard to give us what is shaping up to be one heck of a fantastic album, and if any efforts made by the fans can help reduce this scourge, and rightfully give him all he remuneration and credit for legal album sales he deserves, i’m all for that

hi marlie7… it’s one reason the music industry is in the death spiral it’s in.. some people think, why pay for a cd, when in essence one inclined to do so can ”steal” it from one of those sites.. i have seen data out there to support that david’s debut cd is some of the most heavily pirated out there on the web, and it makes one wonder just how many cd’s he would have been credited for selling if illegal downloading was reduced… just want to see him get soundscan and billboard credit for as many cd’s legally purchased as possible -- and the financial compensation for them as well…
I was surpriesed that we could hear the album today. I was just trying to get a “sneak peak”, because I am so terribly anxious! My Christmas present to EVERYBODY this year is going to be the album! I’m at home with the flu today, and hearing David sing is a therapy. Since I can’t seem to get the music to play at Fan Scene, guess I’ll just have to listen to some of his other stuff!
hi mellowmama -- a lot of sites have stopped posting cd links, or have begun disabling or password protecting the links in an effort to try and reduce illegal downloading… just trying to give david credit for as many legally purchased copies as possible… the buzz and excitement for the cd is off the hook, so i’m hoping as we’ve gotten an early christmas present with the 10/13 release, david will as well -- with some good sales numbers week to week for this album…

Just before the #10 link was made unavailable I listened to one of the tracks, “Ave Maria”. I have never ever, in my lifetime (and I’m nearing my four score), heard it sung so beautifully, so emotionally and so reverently. I’m in awe. This 18-year-old young man has been truly blessed by the Creator. We are blessed to be living in this ‘David’ time.
I will be away on the 13th but have pre-ordered three CD’s from Amazon Canada and three from Amazon U.S. and I hope they have arrived by the time I return. I can only imagine how perfect the rest of the album will be.

38/ you’re awesome jackryan4da… vigilance can help put a dent in the amount of illegal downloads… reporting sites as they’re discovered is a big help… leaks are such a double edged sword… they can help fuel the hype, and buzz for an album or single, and ramp up interest and sometimes help create demand, but they also can turn around and be used to rip off the artist by making it easy to rip and post them to sites where they can be had, for free… just hoping the illegal downloading is minimal, whatever minimal is… staying vigilant helps

The Duet…it gives you goose bumps, it amazes you, it might even make your knees shake…the wonderment is extremely high…
I think and for the moment I have to say that all of his CD at once would be unfortunate and difficult to savor correctly…
This can never hurt CD sales IMO…and preparation for plans for his Christmas concert get going in one’s mind as well…The concert will be sensational…come on over OPRAH you are missing the best of the best…

I love the duet -- it is well-produced with a balance between David and Charice. I also think the quality of the youtube is a little lacking, so I’m okay with leaving it up for now. We’ll see how others weigh in.

The buzz on this album is sooooooooooo great. Even non-fan sites are mentioning it. There are almost 300K links when you make a web search for CFTH + DA

Speaking of GLEE, anyone here enjoying it as well? Like “American Dreams”, this musical show has started guesting singing artists and weaved them into the plot. Josh Groban was the 1st one in it 3rd epi, followed by Emmy winner, Kristin Chinoweth from “Pushing Daisies”. Can you imagine David guesting in time for their Christmas epi?
David is in Nashville, same time zone as mine. He took his guitar with him to Nashville, so I am wondering what surprises does our “Earth Angel” have in store for us?
It still surprises me that David can walk through an airport and not get mobbed, or at the very least cause a enough of a disturbance to require security around him. He traveled alone to Nashville and that bothers me. I know his fans respect him & his privacy for the most part, but there are some crazies out there don’t. He is taking a big chance traveling alone…IMO.

Re Ave Maria -- as per the SLC news article, it took David 5 hours to record it cos he wanted to try to give it his best. Bestor’s team must be beaming!
This album rawks! There are just a couple of tracks that I would have liked the orchestration to be lowered so David’s voice could soar higher… but other than than, this is la música en su muy más fino!

lanfeng -- JMO, no real point in trying to convince others of David’s talent, we all have artist’s we like and don’t like; and just because they are not be a fan today, doesn’t mean they never will be. I sometimes think that the more we try to shove him down people’s throats, the more they resist.
He is doing just fine. I am pretty sure he understands and accepts the fact that not everyone is a fan. I am just going to sit back, relax and enjoy the ride. No worries.

lanfeng…There is absolutely no need of thinking about convincing anyone to enjoy and favor David’s singing. David (and his magnificent voice) is in a league of his own and it is only the musically inclined who are fans of his music. Anyone else belongs to the group who listens to the fabricated, less then gifted singers who are in a group of their own.
You don’t convince people to enjoy his voice, because unfortunately they perhaps cannot. Some people do not have a refined ear for music and cannot differentiate between the highly gifted classical artist and the ordinary singer who may have as their strongest forte, their entertaining stage presence. (Lady Gaga as an example…)
David is already a super star…the sale of his Christmas CDs world wide, will be phenominal. He has redefined the Christmas Carol for me.

lanfeng, I just reread my previous post. Boy, I am in a mood tonight! Apologies for my bluntness! My way of dealing with non-fans is only mine; so may I add, support David in whatever way pleases you! We all do what we gotta do!
For myself, I have just decided to quit worrying about others, and just enjoy him and this glorious journey he is taking us on.
David went to the Grand Ole Opry tonight and was called up to the stage where they plugged his CFTH! If I recall David said at one time during an interview, that he listens to all genres of music except “Country”. Being in Nashville, he almost has no choice, but I’m sure he’s having a great time mixing pleasure & fun with the work he went there for.
I listened to Ave Maria, Christmas Melodies & HYAMLC. I loved
Ave Maria! I really liked the creative & catchy CM. HYAMLC too, but would have liked it more with just The Voice though.

about the MJ’s comments ….People think that David want to be an emulation of Josh Groban or Andrea Bocelli? , i don’t think so and not because they don’t have great voices too, but because the special thing about David is exactly that his sound is different to the others out there rigth now.So like a said in IDF i gonna take this kind of comment in a positive way…if they think this Christmas album don’t sound like Groban,Bocelli, Celine and others , i gonna say JIVE and producers achieve their goal..and they produced a Christmas album , with a new, fresh,spiritual, young feeling, but keeping the classical style of the songs…very David.
I’m sure many people gonna identified David voice easily after this album.(just my opinion)

TIBI -- well said! Even the point of people expecting this to be at par with some of the legends is already an indication of the kind of expectation they have from David. And this is definitely a compliment to David. The mere fact that they even invest time to critique him -- I will take that as a good sign. Why? Because they are checking him out!
Now if they start comparing him to say… I dunno, Kanye? or any of the other Disney talents that some people are intend to pegged him in, then I would be disturbed if not insulted for David.
All is fair in this game of the music industry. It just so happen that David is abundantly talented and generous and a heartthrob to boot (ask people mag! LOL!)
It is also very possible that some people are smarting from the hype that David is getting nowadays.
In the end, real talent will out. So my cyber friends it’s all cool.

vermeer -- you are so lucky. My two older sons went to Europe for the first time this summer for work. You’ll have to let us (here @ TDC) know any tidbits you hear about David.
A question for those with training in musical background. After listening to CELD (probably 1000 times) & analysis from Chenson, ronaldsf & rascal, I wondered if David has ever applied those techniques (caressing the lyrics, for example) that made his performance so special? Not knowing much about vocalization or music, I was curious about the affect that CELD had on his fans & possibly non fans, as well. Also, could these techniques be applied to his pop music, or is it more applicable to classical music? Apologize for this awkward post & any offense to those in the know.
