Fields of Gold
Lessons Learned

“Will you stay with me? Will you be my love?”
In a concert review, a singer was described as “an unclassifiable and inspiring musician,” someone who “could sing anything – folk, blues, pop, jazz, R&B, gospel, and make it sound like it was the only music that mattered.”
The “only music that mattered.” Indeed! This could very well be David Archuleta who the reviewer was describing, but it was Eva Cassidy, a singer who David has named several times as a major influence. Remember that awkward moment on the “The View” in June 2008? This popular daytime show was filmed in Las Vegas just before the 2008 AI Summer Tour began. Both David and David Cook were invited, and the ladies asked their guests what THEIR American Idols were. Who were the artists that they revered when they were growing up?
David answered, “Someone I really admired is Eva Cassidy.”
“Huh?”
“Who?”
The name obviously drew a complete blank. David tried to explain. “Eva Cassidy. She’s substantive with her music and just very expressive, both lyrically and …” Nobody had a clue who he was talking about, and they cut him off, asking the same question of David Cook.
Eva Cassidy is described as a deeply though unconventionally spiritual person, and it was said that she viewed her talent as a gift and an obligation. She grew up in a musical family and became serious about music at age nine, practicing guitar and singing for hours a day. She was almost painfully shy, but warmed to performing when she saw the effect that her singing had on her audience. Eva Cassidy was perhaps on the brink of a wider career when she died at the early age of 33. While she never gained great fame or fortune, there are many who have been touched by her soulful voice and her intimate performances.
In his introduction to Fields of Gold, the first time he performed it in Salt Lake City on November 24, David said,
This next song is a rendition that one of my favorite artists did, and her name was Eva Cassidy. She taught me so much, just the sensitivity in the music and the emotion in the song. I first heard the song during the Utah Olympics. Michelle Kwan did a skate performance to it.
The Salt Lake Winter Olympics was held in 2002, when David was the tender age of eleven.
Fields of Gold was written by Sting and the original version is a warm and gentle love song. The embedding has been disabled, so here is the YouTube link:
Eva Cassidy, with her soulful voice and unique timbre, elevates this simple song to a heart-wrenching, soul-connection experience. It is often noted that David takes a song and makes it new. Eva Cassidy took this song and made it her own.
There are no videos of Eva singing Fields of Gold, but for a sense of Eva Cassidy as a performer, try this achingly tender live performance of Somewhere Over the Rainbow.
Eva Cassidy’s CD “Songbird” includes both Over the Rainbow and Fields of Gold and is maybe a good place to start to discover this artist.
If you’ve been living under a rock and haven’t seen David’s performance of Fields of Gold, enjoy this close-up version, courtesy of YouCanCallMeTina for the picture, SnarkyMawg for the audio, and Rascal for the mash-up (yes, he is still with us, and promises to weigh in soon).
~ davidfanLIZ
Wow, loving that mashup! Thanks, Rascal!
Liz, when you remind us that David was only 11 when he first heard Eva Cassidy’s “Fields of Gold,” one has to process that:
1. An 11 year old remembered an obscure artist when her song wasn’t even the focal point when he heard it (a skating Michelle Kwan was).
2. An 11 year old was so deeply affected, he went out in search of her music.
That just blows my mind and proves that he’s a musical genius. Even now, his vocal phrasing and tonal flavor just shows the awe and reverence he has for that song.
He’s an incredible gift, and I love that he’s sensitive enough to dig through the music and find his “field of gold.”
We’re so blessed to have someone like David on the current music scene!
Beautiful post Liz.
Thanks for the mash-up Rascal.
Such expressiveness in his face – a pure joy to watch and an outstanding interpertation, imo
Liz: Thank you for the great article. I’m really enjoying reading about people who have influenced David’s music and style. And Rascal – love the mashup – are you going to make it available on youtube for downloading? (You know I have to have my collection of videos on my own PC.)
Liz, thanks for that lovely post. I mostly lurk, but had to come out for this. I have been an Eva fan since 2001. I have most of her songs. I became a fan of David’s when he sang “Imagine” and it reminded me so much of Eva. As a person he reminds me of her too. Very humble and shy. She never thought she was any good. One of my favorite songs of hers is “I Know You By Heart”, although it makes me cry. There is no video, just pictures:
Lovely piece and video.
David brings his a new level to his performance skills by the honesty in his voice. He quietly wears his heart on his wrist in support of his fellow man.

Great job liz and rascal! Been listening to the mp3 of this and, wow, he is incredible. As we all do, I sometimes get lost in the visual when watching the videos!
HG, love your entire post!!
Great article, Liz! Even though I still haven’t heard him sing Fields of Gold.
I have been a raving jumping-up-and-down fan of Eva Cassidy since David made me discover her last year. It was precisely that video you posted, Liz, of her singing Somewhere Over the Rainbow, that had me enamored. She has a tremendous range of expression in her voice (she can belt it out too!!).
I also saw that video of Michelle Kwan performing to “Fields of Gold” subsequently. I never thought a skating performance could me cry – breathtaking, in the literal sense!! It’s amazing that this was David’s first exposure to the song (and probably also to Eva Cassidy) as well.
HG – Exactly! It is amazing to think of how young David was when he first heard this song. And now it’s almost like he is channeling her through his own performance.
HopeUDance2 – there seem to be a lot of parallels between Eva and David. Both grew up in musical families, both have a basically introverted, shy personality, a strong early connection (obsession) with music, a vocal instrument of enormous beauty, a deep spirituality, an ability to sing in numerous genres of music, a focus on goals other than popular fame, the ability to re-invent a song and make it their own, and perhaps most important – the ability to create an profound intimacy with their listener.
ronald – I admire your discipline!
Just a few more days left.
Liz, I also was struck by the parallels between David and Eva. Eva never thought she was very good. She asked one of her early fans (the guy who repaired her guitar) why he came to all her gigs, he’d already heard all the songs! ! She didn’t understand the effect she had on people. She was driving with her mother once and was swerving the car all over the road. Her mother asked her “What are you doing?” Eva said, “Don’t you see all those caterpillars on the road”. Unlike David tho, she was uncomfortable on stage at least as far as interacting with the audience. She was finally getting more comfortable when she got sick. Like Ronald, I fell in love with “Over the Rainbow” when I heard it on the radio. There is an excellent website run by Eva’s cousin, Laura: evacassidy.org where there is a lot of information about Eva and a guestbook for people to leave messages about how she effected them (people from all over the world!!).
I would love to hear David sing any of Eva’s songs, especially “True Colors” , “Songbird” – the list goes on. I am so happy that David has been inspired by Eva. It’s like Eva’s legacy is living on in David. He has such excellent taste in music, as Eva did. They both can take a song, make it their own and improve on it.
I just saw this at Snarkies:
David will be performing at Hill Auditorium at 8 p.m. ET! With an orchestra, woooo! Yay, there’s a cellcast! Annie from David Archuleta Fans Germany and Anny from David Archuleta Italy will be hosting! Thanks, ladies! Go HERE at 7:45 p.m. ET to listen.
I am so excited about this concert. Another feather in David’s multi-hued cap. I just can’t wait for the reports from the lucky fans in that beautiful hall.
SPOILER ALERT!

SF & company must be in heaven!
OUT OF TOPIC: Guess I have soooo much to be thankful for, exactly on the minute that Thanksgiving day was to expire.
As I was turning left to enter our community gate, a wayward motorcycle hit the right side of my car. I arrived home around 4am already from the police station.
I remember trembling as I sat in my car immobile for a stretch of time because the bikedriver lay on the pavement, not moving. I knew it wasn’t my fault because when he hit the car’s passenger side, the bike was outside my periphery already. In fact, my car was 2/3 into the road where I turned left, slowing down, waiting for the gate to open. But… a human life… that’s a different story.
Turns out the bikerider was drunk! #^%$#@!)(*&^%#$%&*()@$#$%&*)(*&^%$&^%$#@!)(*&^%#$%&*()@$#$%&*)(*&^%$&^%$#@!)(*&^%#$%&*!!!!!
Isn’t that so elementary? If you drink, you don’t drive. He thought I was mad because of the damage to my car which was considerable (yeah all 4 panels of the car’s right side wrecked). He didn’t realize I was mad because he was drunk and had no business being on the street!
I just thank the Lord that my kids were not with me.
I thank the Lord that that irresponsible driver is alive.
I thank the Lord that there were people ready to help, esp when the bikerider wanted to flee the scene.
While waiting for the police, I took his license, his keys and threatened to punch the daylights out of him if he didn’t sit in the corner & quit trying to leave with the motorcycle!
What a way to close Thanksgiving Day huh?
Thanks for allowing me to rant. Now back to our regular programming — yes! David with the A2SO – EPIC! almost halfway already. YAY!

From PriErikaKothari
Oh by the way this concert totally disproved the theory that David only has teens and women as fans. So many men there!
From EmilyFOD
WOW. SIMPLY INCREDIBLE. O Holy Night as an encore…got roses at the end.
SF would love to hear from you!
JR: Those quotes! Wow! Tears all around for the singer and the audience. I’m anxious to hear from SF, too. If she can “speak”.
AVE MARIA Ann Arbor ZILLION of thanks to emilyluvsarchie
Oh, this is lovely – I wish we could see him, but I’m thankful for emily’s bravery! Thanks Emily!
I hope they are OK, sory I couldn’t get vids. We had great seats, but no way to hide. I had my camera in a pocket my mom sewed into a purse. I covered all the lights with black tape and cut a hole in the purse in front of the mic.! I hope it isn’t too muffled, I haven’t listened yet. Oh yeah, he was AWESOME!!! Merry Christmas to Me almost finished!
Oh , I missed three…I had a technical difficulty! I hope someone else got Angels we Have Heard on High, Riu Riu Chui, and Zero Gravity

Woo hoo, FOG! A favorite on here these past few days.
Fields of Gold, Ann Arbor (thanks Emily!)
Incredible night at the Symphony with David. He was beyond what you can imagine. Standing at the mic, doing his thing, accompanied by a full Symphony Orchestra, David once again proved he is a musical genius. He had ONE day to rehearse, to perfect, to work with the conductor, to communicate what and how he wanted to perform the songs. They devised a way to communicate during David’s set by David using a thumbs up or down for up or lower the tempo. David was kinda conducting the Conductor! But very non-challant so as not to be obvious to most of the audience. He is after all, a musical genius.
The audio “vids” do not do justice to David’s magnificent vocals. When will we learn not to be worried about how David is going to do in a new situation/setting? When will I learn not to worry so much about him period? He always exceeds our/my expectations..always. I am content..Only because I will be seeing him again in 10 days! For now though..
Good night, and for David…
Dear lord,
Please take care of David.
Watch over him, protect him from all harm.
Cloak him with your love and give him the strength to endure all that is thrown in his path.
Give David the courage and guidance to say no to those who ask for more than he can reasonably give.
Surround David with loving and supportive people who love him unconditionally as we, his devoted Archangels do.
Separate David from those who have agendas other than for his well being.
Give him rest when he feels weary.
Give him stamina to sustain his hectic pace.
Give him assurance when he feels doubt.
Give him joy when he feels sad and never allow David to feel alone or lonely.
Give us the wisdom to always do right by David.
Help us support David so that it’s always in his best interest.
A SPECIAL REQUEST LORD…CLOAK DAVID IN YOUR PROTECTIVE ARMS THROUGHOUT HIS WINTER TOUR, KEEPING DAVID AND HIS VOICE HEALTHY AND STRONG as he fulfills his Destiny which was written in his Book of Life before he was born.
Though we may be unworthy Lord, we humbly pray. Amen
David, have a good & restful night’s sleep with sweet & happy dreams. Thank you for all you do and for who you are. Keep with you all our love, support & prayers always. Contigo siempre! We will be with you always.
FOG
SF: Thank you for posting your thoughts here – I can’t believe how beautiful it all sounds – David, a symphony, the quiet and respectful audience (screams and applause between songs). It must have been a truly wonderful experience.
OHN
Marlie, It was wonderful He talked to the audience between songs, and the conductor would smile at him the whole time. I really enjoyed watching the musicians watch him. They were obviously impressed. Two violinists, that were seated right in front of me, were in love!
Pat a Pan almost finished. I’m going to have to finish tomorrow, leaving for home in a few hours, I better go pack!
Emily, thank you so very much for the recordings! Words cannot express how much it means to be able to hear him sing with the orchestra. I’m in a FOG fog.
What will we do w/o you EMILY? Thank you for doing this. You are so brave to take the risk
BTW, did you notice any camera officially recording the concert? I just wish they could televise it or sell it on DVDs or downloadable vids from iTunes – that would additional revenue for both David & A2SO.
SIGH!
Good night and have a good trip Emily!
I didn’t see anyone recording, but I was way down in front so I could have missed it. There was a man taking still photos. He came to the stage with a light meter before the concert stated, that is why I noticed him.
PAT-A-PAN
CRUSH vid but turns out audio only cr to Bubblesark — they tried… they really tried. But the Hill Audi is known to be really strict.
but remember we have a snippet of this performance (cr chicagoarchie08) posted already at our ANN ARBOR TOUR PAGE

Emily I cannot thank you enough. I got up really early in hopes of hearing something and wound up in tears at my computer. This concert proves once again, as so many have witnessed, that David singing live is far more brilliant than David recorded. What a precious evening those lucky people had to hear this concert. SF I want more details!!
Some CA listers are already in place awaiting his arrival tonight. I cannot wait for my turn in NJ. Huge sigh.

JR – Thank you so much for making the mp3′s of the Ann Arbor concert. It’s amazing that with all of our time zone differences, someone is working while someone else sleeps.
Tonight is the first real “tour” concert, isn’t it? I mean, SLC had an orchestra and Lupe, and Ann Arbor was a special event as well with a huge symphony orchestra. So tonight we find out what the rest of the tour will be like. Another exciting night in Archieland.
I just had to stop by and say a huge thanks and send big hugs to Sandy Beaches! My daughter was the very lucky recipient of her extra VIP ticket in SLC! She had an AMAZING time and SB was the perfect concert companion.
I knew this experience would mean a lot to my daughter, but I had no idea it would affect me like it did (I was able to attend the concert the following night). David truly looked beautiful and sounded amazing–almost other worldly, but there was something more–something that even the highest quality videos weren’t able communicate. There was this incredible emotional energy coming from him that just filled up the hall and just grabbed you and held you until you almost forgot to breathe. It was like he was so in the moment that you were pulled right into the moment with him…and for that moment, everything was perfect and beautiful and wonderful. It almost physically hurt when the moment ended–sort of like that expression on his face when he finishes a song that he is really feeling.
kaycee: There was this incredible emotional energy coming from him that just filled up the hall and just grabbed you and held you until you almost forgot to breathe. It was like he was so in the moment that you were pulled right into the moment with him…and for that moment, everything was perfect and beautiful and wonderful.
This gave me chills.
What a beautiful concert in Ann Arbor. While I was waiting to get in, the Orchestra CEO stopped and said, “You are in for an amazing time. Rehearsals went so smoothly and he is such a super nice and genuine young man.” As someone else mentioned the musicians seemed to love him. After Ave Maria one of them wiped tears from his eyes and turned to the one next to him and said “WOW!”. Every song was beautiful and the accoustics were amazing. Thank you for the audio. I love reliving the concert
Hi Everyone!
Just wanted to share my experience last nignt. No, I did attend David’s concert:( I was however, at rehearsals for my choir’s gig – to accompany Andrea Bocelli for his christmas cd tour here in Florida. When the rehearsal first started,we did not know whether or not he would be in attendance. As we were into the third song o the program, suddenly the stage doors opened and in walked Bocelli and in entourage including none other than David Foster. Like David recently said – I almost passed out on the floor. Bocelli was led directly to the podium and immediately started singing live. I cannot tell you how glorious his voice is live.
My mission however, was to get a chance to meet David Foster if the opportunity arose. Well,it did. During a musician’s break we we allowed to get up close to Bocelli and take pictures of him. He entertained us by playing “Strangers in the Night” on the piano. While everyone was seemingly occupied, I saw an opening in the crowd to speak to David Foster. I walked up to him, shook his hand, thanked him for all his enjoyable music through the years and for artists like Groban and Charice to which he said – Oh she’s the next big thing! I then casually mentioned that I had seen him on tv recently with the Kaleidoscope show . He said – Oh the skating special? To which I said – Oh yes, I am a HUGE fan of David Archuleta. Foster – Oh he’s extremely talented. He then asked me if I were a performer with the show and I said – Yes, with the choir. Foster – You guys sound great!. I then thanked him again and moved on because there was a line of folks waiting to talk to him.
It was totally amazing to see professionals at work. Bocelli never missed a note, and Foster on the piano is something you just have to hear live as well. I also got a gander of just what it takes to produce a high-caliber show. There were tons upon tons of equipment that had to be packed up that night – the rehearsal was held in West Palm Beach but the venue is in Ft. Lauderdale – Bank Atlantic Center, later tonight.
As I watched, I thanked God for this remarkable opportunity and also to wish and hope that someday our Bocelli – DAVID, will be received all over the world just like Andreas.
Ooo ooo ooo ooo OOOOOH, Joymus!!! THANK YOU FOR SHARING THAT and for getting in a plug for David with David Foster!!!!! Well done!!!
Thanks Jen,
I didn’t want to seem like an OTT ODDer by mentioning DA from the get-go. I thought I would just name drop casual-like – lol!
In listening to and reading the accounts of David’s reaction at the end of Ave Maria, I just have to say this rendition minus the children’s choir may have done the trick. I have always felt that the addition of a children’s choir to that song was just a tad too much sugar in an already emotional piece of music.
For Fields of Gold – he sung it in a higher key than usual. This was still beautiful and moving even though my preference is for his lower one.
oh JOYMUS!! Wow, you have been holding out on us,,,,knew you sang in a choir, but how cool that you will be with the likes of Bocelli!!
You are amazingly wonderful to promote David to none other than David Foster!! Seriously you rock.
Oh and THANK YOU RASCAL for the beautiful mash up. I am still lost in the fields of gold with no exit and it is a beautiful place to be. I appreciate you you all dedicated a thread to this.
Gosh, I remember seeing that performance by Michelle Kwan. Huge fan of her for years. Who would have thought that a beautiful young soul in Utah was also watching and it impacting his muscial sensibilities. Makes the world seem sort of small.
Joymus, I agree with you in that the AA performance of Ave Maria was the best to date and even better than the recorded version for me. I think you are spot on about the children’s choir and also about the key of Fields of Gold. I prefer the lower key where he can soar on those few high notes.
Hope your performance is very successful and thrilling for you and you’ll be so kind as to share the experience with us. Frankly, I’m salivating…
I could not resist this chance at a Merry Go Round, David & Lupe.

Here is a very well-written article by an eighth grader on mLive:
http://www.mlive.com/entertainment/grand-rapids/index.ssf/2009/11/post_9.html
There are simply no words to describe what we heard and saw last night at the magnificent Hill Auditorium. It is a dumbfounding experience. Judging from the musicians’ facial expressions, we were not the only ones dumbfounded. Yes, David got several standing ovations –the first one happened when he came upon the stage, before he sang a single note.
He may be slight in stature, and you can barely see him in front of 76 musicians in suits and tuxedos. When he opened his mouth, however, the sea of musicians faded into the background, and you can only hear and see him. The orchestra became the canvas that he painted masterfully and freely with his voice. He took us everywhere and told us one story after another: he is the awe-struck shepherd in What Child is This; the lovesick Scotsman in Fields of Gold; the devout choir boy in Ava Maria; the Everyman asking “who am I” in the Riddle. It is as if there is a vast universe inside of him where he goes to draw emotions and experiences which he had stored from the hundreds of years he lived.
In his own subtle and respectful way, David led the orchestra like a general commanded his army. Throughout the evening, the symphony conductor looked at him with admiration, pride, and adoration. At the end he leaped toward David and gave him a big hug, on behalf of all the musicians.
Despite this being a Christmas concert, surprisingly, what haunts me the most from the concert is the Existential David wondering why we are here in this world at all. Oh David, only if you know. For you, it’s not a Riddle. It’s your Destiny.
I’m home and uploading the rest of Ann Abor. 1000 miles coming up in a few. This was the only song David played te piano for and I couldn’t see him from my seat . Since te orcestra wasn’t playing, I watced tem watc im. Big smiles and many wereleaning over to see him better.
Yikes my H key isn’t working right, forgive the typos!
My dearest TDC folks — Please re-post all concert recaps in the related Tour Pages. Believe me, in the future when TDC has guggilion pages, this will be very useful when looking for specific posts LOL. I can re-postthem myself but it would be better if they are entered under your name
TY very much.
I found a very nice treat! ZanessaEfgens, another archie-ninja was able to RECORD the AUDIO of:
A MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ME & SILENT NIGHT with all the banter & audience reaction!
plus partial of OHN but with audience reaction
Personally, I have always preferred the recording with the banters & audience reaction. Probably because I’m not in attendance for these shows.
That’s why I enjoy SnarkyMawg’s vids. He/she tried to record the SLC shows in full! So if you want the almost whole enchilada -- check out SnarkyMawg.
But for quality vids, we have Gengen’s, ShelleyFOD’s, Tina’s to name a few
Hah, pardon me for “talking” too much!

Did you catch the conductor during Zero Gravity? Had a little bounce goin there…haha.
And THANK YOU to davisthegecko for the vids!!
Sorry…but I’m new here…how do I access the tour pages?
Just loving on these videos… such a great help with my imagination.
BTW if anyone has a single ticket for St Paul they would like to sell, I’d like to buy it as a gift for my sister. She’s never seen David in live concert. Im in CT but I would send it on to her. Please contact me privately at maricorgi@aol.com. thanks!

“He may be slight in stature, and you can barely see him in front of 76 musicians in suits and tuxedos. JR and ninja Emily: Thanls for your stelth ways and hard work so we can share the joy. And JR: sorry about yout close call the other day I am sure that shook you up.
First,a big thank you,to all who with stealth and cunning got the video and audio from the Ann Arbor concert. We would all be blithering idiots with out you. Also to those who were so very lucky to be there, your re-caps and blogs.
We were talking in the chat room last night about how interesting it would be to be a mouse in the corner or a butterfly flitting around the room, to hear the audience’s reaction to David.
What I would love –is to have a TDC’er attending a concert is to station themselves, after the concert, by an exit door and listen to the comments made by those leaving. Better yet,to approach 4 or 5 people-say they are doing an article on the show (we do write re-caps) and ask for their opinion of the show.
We hear and read the newspaper critics and we all know the OTT David fans opinions, I would love to know the average Joe’s opinion. First time seeing David people. —Be interesting reading and my curiosity is killing me.
Also, for those that are doing video, it would be fun to see some video of the audience during the performance.
You all now have your marching orders. Haha
This is coming from a poor soul, who can’t go to a David concert this time around.
great assignment dak- oh, I love your opening comparison between David’s and Eva’s style- they can sing anythiing and make it seem like the only music that matters….speaking of which, how about The Riddle? The first two performances were strong, but wow by Ann Arbor, he had the song DOWN. So Billy Joel piano man- it sure sounded different than anything we have heard before yet, his voice is still rich and full.
This is a week of David feasts! I can’t decide half the time what to listen to or watch. I get stuck in the FOG Vortex, then I’m off to the heavenly renditions of O Holy Night and Ave Maria, listening to A Thousand Miles from Emily’s vids, or reveling in the new song, A Merry Christmas To Me.
Lost, I say, I’m just lost (please don’t come and find me, though).
EMILY – I hope you have TBWY cos that’s the only # missing from DA’s AA set. Am not sure if anyone thought of recording the 4 #s performed by A2SO lol

VIP songs – ZG & Chestnuts!
Get this: When mellowdeelee was taking her VIP tix with David, he sang to her “MELLOWDEES of Christmas!” — guess he can’t help it, haha! He was apologizing to her for being dorky not knowing that she had died and gone to heaven for doing so! Classic LOL

JR, yep, I have TBWY. I’m uploading Crush now(20 more minutes), then I’ll do TBWY. That will be all that I have complete. I’m going to go back and check the three I missed and see if I at least got part of them. I’m really not sure what happened with the first three! (Still really wish they were video though, sigh)
Thanks EMILY! Have CRUSH & SILENT NIGHT posted at the ANN ARBOR TOUR PAGE. I do hope to meet you someday just so I could kiss you, if not thank you myself.
If there was one concert I would have wanted to go to, it was Ann Arbor. But am sure this won’t be David’s 1st and last tie-up with A2SO or any symphony for that matter. Am just happy that this happened this soon. This gig will put him in the zonar map of more respectable musicians.
We have partial vids of the 3 that you may have missed. But there is one archie that has the whole footage until she was caught during ZG… perhaps she is in Bakersfield or still in cloud nine that’s why she has not uploaded
Look at gengen & shelley, they uploaded their SLC vids 2 days after.
JR…I would love to meet you too, David really does have the nicest fans! TBWY is finished now!
David is obviously VERY happy! Which makes me happy as well, even when there clouds in my life..you know? Real life sometimes comes crashing in with a bang and takes you by surprise. For me, it makes me realize David is one of the true joys in my life. And with that, I’ll say,
Good night, and for David…
Dear lord,
Please take care of David.
YUP, just posted it in our tour page.

Oh, he did HYAMLC solo
ANDREA of FOD shared thsi wonderful encounter with the A2SO Conductor Arie Lipsky in the hotel after the concert
“.. After one of the most amazing concerts we have ever heard in our lives, and the first time most of us have been to a symphony orchestra, we returned to Scott’s hotel to chat and order some pizza….lol
As we sat in the lobby a few of us noticed a man with his family chatting by the main lobby doors. I thought the man looked familiar and said to Kristin and Scott, “I think they were at concert tonight’…doy!!!! It’s MR LIPSKY, the conductor of the Ann Arbor Symphony !
So, being the outgoing person that I am, I approached Mr Lipsky and asked if it was indeed him, (it was) and I said, ‘Let me shake your hand, the symphony with David tonight was amazing’
He chatted freely with our group of fod’ers (Scott, Kristin, Pam, Amy, Andrea, Lexi, Gloria, Holly, EL and her husband, Laurie and Joy)
Highlights of his conversation were: When he first met David what he noticed right away were (in his words)… ‘his sparkly eyes’… and that David is so ‘real’…. he said David is so amazing to work with and at such a young age is so in tune to performing with an orchestra, and that he instinctively knows what to do. We asked him if they would have David back in the future and he said……’Oh YES!!’
Kristin asked him what his favorite song of the night was and he said without hesitation ‘O Holy Night’….that ‘chills ran up my back’ as David sang that song and although he is supposed to be concentrating on conducting he couldn’t help but look at David as he sang that song.
He talked about the amazing arrangements of the songs David performed … We asked for a group picture with him and could we post it on fansofdavid…he said ’sure’…he was gracious with his time, answered our questions and made it known he thinks highly of David and his talent.
We are now hoping David performing with the Ann Arbor Symphony becomes a yearly Holiday tradition.”
JR: Thank you for getting these vids!
NEW POST —>
JR #87 Based on the time stamps you may have missed a comment left by a member of the AASO orchestra to the review.
“. David was a joy to work with and I loved his genuine innocence. When he sat down at the piano and accompanied himself my respect for him was raised to a new level.. There’s a little more to the comment worth checking out.
Oh SKIFF thanks so much for bringing that over. Great quotes May I request that you post it at the Ann Arbor Tour Page + others that you could find?
Thanks!
