Songwriter Profile #1
Daniel Bedingfield
David has been busy the past few weeks working with a number of songwriters to create songs for the next album. Some of these writers he has worked with before, and the evidence of their collaborations can be seen on the first album. Some of the writers are new. We invite you to get to know each of these writer/collaborators better in a series of songwriter profiles.

We know the name Daniel Bedingfield from an earlier collaboration, Works for Me. Although this song was only released as a limited bonus track, it has become one of the fan favorites, perhaps partly because it includes some of David’s own story, and has a style that seems one step above the usual pop material. David performed Works for Me for the first time live at the Sacramento Jingle Show and the excitement was palpable. This song seemed to fit David – his voice, his personality and his sense of humor. We can only happily speculate what this team will come up with for a second offering.
Daniel Bedingfield was born in New Zealand and was raised by social worker parents in London. He showed musical talent at an early age: writing songs at age six, rapping at age nine, composing on the keyboard at age sixteen. He got his first major break at age eighteen with the hit, Gotta Get Thru This.
Watch the video here: Gotta Get Thru This

The song starts in an intimate style and showcases an impressive expressive range. It then shifts dramatically into a more rhythmic, hip hop style.
Career plans were put on hold after a 2004 accident where Daniel was literally cut from the wreckage of his jeep near Auckland, New Zealand. The accident broke his neck and he had a metal frame bolted into his skull for three months. Thankfully he has recovered and was able to resume his performing and writing career. He says of his work, “I love putting out really vulnerable music that could just bite me on the ass. There is stuff in my music that I’d literally never tell my closest friend, and yet somehow it just feels right to put it into a song and tell the entire planet. It takes something that is ugly within yourself, some base instinct, or a pain that is really deep, and then it permits all that to enter the public consciousness. For me it’s almost a spiritual experience.”

Davidfanliz:
What a great article. I don’t know enough about the songwriters so this is a really great idea. Daniel sounds perfect to be writing with David! I like when he said “He loves putting out really vulnerable stuff”. David already pours out his heart and soul in a song that is NOT HIS and we feel so connected to him. I can only imagine when he pours out his heart and soul in a song THAT IS HIS! My only question is will we be able to handle it? Or, will we collapse! haha
Daniel’s “If You’re Not the One” is a favorite of mine. Smooth melody and wonderful lyrics.
I hope this works…I’m still stunned…hands are weak…jaws on the floor…GAH!
Dang-it!

IDK…maybe I’m late to the party and you have already viewed this beauty!? If it doesn’t work, maybe I need help? LOL…don’t answer that
angelofda: OMG, I’m absolutely dead over that picture. What a gorgeous book cover. GAH!
Liz…I am pleased that we can have this look at the people who write with David. He speaks about them often and I have not taken the time to do research and see who they really are. David speaks highly of his writers and that has been a missing link to some of us.
I look forward to future readings about his most talented and interesting writers.
SB
Liz, Fantastic idea for a feature article! Personally the last quote by Daniel is what I think David also feels…
“There is stuff in my music that I’d literally never tell my closest friend, and yet somehow it just feels right to put it into a song and tell the entire planet. It takes something that is ugly within yourself, some base instinct, or a pain that is really deep, and then it permits all that to enter the public consciousness. For me it’s almost a spiritual experience.”
River #2 -- thanks for that. Daniel’s voice is so expressive and this song in haunting. (These videos can’t be embedded so I’m just providing the YouTube link.)
If You’re Not The One
angelofda#5 -- that twitpic looks like a #1 bestseller to me!
Also, love your avi.
LIZ this article is great. What a good idea to offer these insights on these songwriters that are such an important part of David’s life. Thank you to the admins. for all of your efforts.
I’m really liking this-- “He says of his work, “I love putting out really vulnerable music that could just bite me on the ass. There is stuff in my music that I’d literally never tell my closest friend, and yet somehow it just feels right to put it into a song and tell the entire planet. It takes something that is ugly within yourself, some base instinct, or a pain that is really deep, and then it permits all that to enter the public consciousness. For me it’s almost a spiritual experience.” No wonder David feels comfortable with him.
angelofda #5--pick me up off the floor! That pic needed a warning attached to it. Needless to say that is part of my collection now.
Thanks pabuckie!
Tawna21…blame it on my own lack of sense when viewing “the pic”…I lost all mental ability to compose myself! I concur.. a warning was most definately needed!
OMG…just hit VIEW FULL SIZE on the twitpic…
apologies LIZ, cannot address your wonderful article until I have regained my…senses…my consciousness. Mamma!
(and WHERE can we pre-order that book again??????????)
emmiegirl: Pre-order on Amazon.
Great idea for a series. I really will enjoy learning more about the various artists working with David. They sure seem to be a top notch group. Angelofdja, that pic is amazing, but for some reason I think it is an amazing fan book cover and perhaps not the real thing, I hope it is the real thing because it is simply over the moon.
Liz…What a wonderful idea.
Reading this about Daniel and listening to the links makes me very giddy about what they may have written. I wonder how the decision is made on who David works with, does he chose? does the label chose?
I have the impression that he has much more liberties with the work for the next album. So I would like to hope that the writers are lining up to work with him and he gets to chose…
Oh that picture…. A HUGE warning is needed…this would be a #1 seller.
I am very excited about this thread and the opportunity to learn more about these writers. In addition, just to watch and listen to them performing their own music gives more insight into what we might expect with David. He’s forming lasting relationships that may be so productive in the years to come. I really enjoyed Kina at Del Mar. I’m anxious to read more about them all.
Raelovingangels -- you’re right I do believe that is a fan book cover -- not the real thing. But it IS amazing! That’s actually a picture from that Life Story magazine way back when.
Thanks, Liz! This Songwriter Profile thread was a great idea! It’s exciting to learn about the writers who worked on David’s first CD and those who inspired him to write. I’d sure love to learn about how David inspired them, as well!
Hope David made it OK to DC for the Kaleidoscope Women Curing Cancer Event taping. And I can’t quite believe David’s Christmas Tour begins NEXT WEEK! And three weeks til my sis & I see him in Kansas City! Why else would I ever go to Kansas City? Lovely city, I’m sure. The point is, I’ve been to cities I never thought I would ever visit. I find that very amusing.
The things I do and places I’ll go to for love of David.
Good night all, and for David…
Dear lord,
Please take care of David.
Watch over him, protect him from all harm.
Cloak him with your love and give him the strength to endure all that is thrown in his path.
Give David the courage and guidance to say no to those who ask for more than he can reasonably give.
Surround David with loving and supportive people who love him unconditionally as we, his devoted Archangels do.
Separate David from those who have agendas other than for his well being.
Give him rest when he feels weary.
Give him stamina to sustain his hectic pace.
Give him assurance when he feels doubt.
Give him joy when he feels sad and never allow David to feel alone or lonely.
Give us the wisdom to always do right by David.
Help us support David so that it’s always in his best interest.
Cloak him always in your protective arms during this time on his journey.
Keep David and and his voice healthy and strong as he fulfills his Destiny which was written in his Book of Life before he was born.
Though we may be unworthy Lord, we humbly pray. Amen
David, have a good & restful night’s sleep with sweet & happy dreams. Thank you for all you do and for who you are. Keep with you all our love, support & prayers always.
Contigo siempre! We are with you always!
Amen SF. xoxox
SF, “I’ve been to cities I never thought I would ever visit. I find that very amusing.” I so hear ya! I’m guessing there will be a few more of them we’ll be visiting in the future for no other reason than dear ol’ David.
Liz,
What a great idea this is to discuss the writers working with David on the next album. Writing and working with other writers seems to be taking up much of his time right now; he tweets about it so much. I remember him saying how much he enjoyed working with Daniel on Works For Me. So I can’t wait to hear what they come up with together again. I really love that quote too about being vulnerable. In a few profound words he defines much of what art does and why we need it and reveals himself to be the real deal.
Angelica…As I scroll down to the replys I keep coming actoss the “Ain’t No Other Man” picture…What a lovely picture to come across each time, has to be a favorite of mine!
SB
SB#25,
Yeah. There is just something about that pic that flutters my stomach everytime. He looks so serious and no nonsense. So capable and manly. Ain’t no other man, manly. M A N L Y
OK, I’m gonna stop right there.
Angelica 26 and all: I even like that gosh darn dang it etc etc papparazzi photo- even though I hate that is happening, it shows his rising star.
The thing I like about it, is his intense, irritated look. Yes, he could act if he wanted to. Has everythhing in the tool box to do it.
raelovingangels, “Yes, he could act if he wanted to. Has everythhing in the tool box to do it.” So true, so true.
Totally blown away by the snippets from the DC show tonight:

Ok, so that was inspirational. Looks like he is going to be all over the place with his Christmas music…great!
SB
What a wasted opportunity! Am watching Dancing With the Stars and Kelly Osbourne just did a routine to “Angels”. Yikes, whoever was singing that would be MORTIFIED if his version was compared to David’s. Hey DWTS, get the REAL DEAL on your program, dangit!!
Liz, as others have indicated, I love the idea of showcasing David’s songwriters. Can’t wait to hear the results of their collaborations!
A quiet nite in Archuland, so I thought I’d post this MTV interview that took place a year ago that I had never seen before today. If you missed it, be sure to check it out -- David was at his adorable best, talking about his new album, his upcoming tour and how he’s coping with sudden fame.
And he looked especially scrumptious!

Oh, wow, what a set of enticing clips. Can’t wait to see David sing these in concert. Just a few more weeks.
Vermeer: Yeah, those little changes that David puts in a song just give me a little thrill.
This is the good thing about living in the other side of the world.

Hi everyone! I just wanted to let you know there is a post on http://www.snarkyarchies.com/ titled, Magical, that is truly beautiful and shows how David touches lives.
Have a great day!
hi tdc -- ray amico, david’s tour manager, just posted this message to the fans who will be attending the christmas concerts… just passing it on…
============================================================
Message from Ray Amico (David’s Tour Manager) About Christmas Tour Etiquette
Ray has a few gentle reminders he would like to share with the fans…
i just wanted to take a moment before the xmas tour starts to say hi to everyone – we are really happy to be touring and bringing david’s show to everyone around the country.
it is going to be a special tour and we are all really happy that we can bring the xmas spirit to you all. we are hoping to be able to accommodate everyone as much as we can, and hope that everyone has a really good time.
as usual, i look forward to seeing as many of you as i can – i apologize in advance if i sometimes seem short or too direct with anyone as we are running the tour.. i hope it is understood (or maybe the ones who have experienced it in the past can help make the newer fans understand) that i don’t mean to be rude or curt with anyone, it’s just that the circumstances of our work and the shows just sometimes make things difficult to do. i’ll be as polite, yet honest with all of you as i can, but when it comes to david and his fans the most important thing to me is safety for everyone.
the schedule that we are on for this entire month will be very difficult, being made even more difficult that it is the winter, with the potential of some harsh weather that hinders us – i ask please, that everyone be extremely careful when coming to the shows: i know many of you travel huge distances, to many shows, etc.. for your sakes and ours please travel safely, be mindful of the cold, etc..
i have a couple of requests that would make it easier for everyone, easier for us to accomplish what we need to do and will make things hopefully smoother, safer and enjoyable for everyone.
- please come to the venue properly dressed for being in the cold and come as close to the door times as possible so you don’t have to wait out in the cold, with children, etc.. we have made accommodating arrangements with several of the venues to move door times back, etc.. where it makes sense to do so and where it will help the audience get there and be able to get inside comfortably before the show starts. these shows are all sold as hard tickets with individual seats, no general admission so there is no benefit to arriving early and waiting in line – we won’t start until you are ALL in, i will make sure of that, so don’t worry.
- people that are arriving for the ILAA VIP parties will be checked in with kristin, as always. our daily schedule at the venue (and the types of venues that we are playing on this tour) is going to be very subjective and we ask for your patience with us as we try to get through all of our setup, in order to make the ILAA VIP party happen at a good time, etc.. you will be hearing from kristin with follow up info as we go along.
- i request that you do not bring your own cameras into the ILAA VIP parties / soundcheck – the uniqueness of the event and everything that happens there is exclusive to those people who are involved, and i think maintaining that, not having it appear on the web, etc.. keeps it that special for those that are there.
- i ask that everyone be very respectful and mindful of the fact that i need to maintain order, safety and civility at the venue. not all places are set up to handle people, especially outside the venue. if i make a request that people please move on, to go home, etc.. please respect our requests – and please let others around you know that; maybe those that aren’t on the fan sites, etc.. tell them about the reasoning behind it; that might make more sense to them and that it comes from people who really care about david.
- please no hanging out anywhere near any buses, trucks, etc… and to be respectful of people’s personal space. and very importantly: please discourage people that you see from doing things that are dangerous to themselves or others. common sense, and common courtesy for all.
if you all can keep these simple things in mind, spread the word where and to whom you can, i hope that it makes for a better experience for you all, as well as the understanding that i am very conscious of david’s health, well-being, etc.. we want to keep him healthy and able to perform to his best for everyone, every night..
have a great time and see you out there on the road.
ray
I have on occassion shaken Ray’s hand and said “Take good care of this young fellow Ray!”…He does a fantastic job!
I love the picture on FOD of David Foster between David and Olivia NJ…quite sweet!
SB
ggdoorsfan -- thanks for that!
I took the following post over to FOD…

“GG-you read at TDC, do you remember the words from Bliss about Davids heart and music? I tried to find what was said but couldnt. It was beautiful.”
…and it truly was.
SB
Correction..I took Bliss’s post over to FOD. I really must slow down.
SB
That note from Ray just makes me so excited for the tour! Glad David has someone who really cares, watching over him for us. I bet David told him, tell them to take care of themselves and dress warm and don’t stand out in the cold too long and drive carefully!
Merry Christmas TDC!
Good news- Spanish speakers get a taste of David per latest tweet:
“At a school in Harlem filming a Christmas performance that’s airing on Dec. 10 on Univision. My first Spanish network performance!” Sounds like somebody’s excited.
Other news per New York Post: Will not be using David’s “Crush” for Glee episode. Hmmm… and trying hard not to post a nasty to some Jared dude (Entertainment Section) who obviously has no class.
archiesfan4life #56, you beat me to it. It is a beautiful and extremely touching story I thought of sharing too. It makes me appreciate even more what David’s music does for people.
Revised note from Ray per twitter:
RT @AnnieDAFG: David’s tourmanager Ray amended his original message reg. tour. Please RT & repost! THANKS!

( he adds some precautions about flu and the ever challanging gift issue for our sweet david that we love to give stuff to) ho ho!
David is at the John Mayer concert in Brooklyn tonight. I would love to be there, too. New release, Battle Studies, by JM was released today.
Well, David & I are watching John Mayer IN CONCERT at the Beacon Theater! Only David IS THERE & I’m in my room watching & recording it on FUSE TV.
I hope he can get an idea NOW of how we feel when we see HIM in concert. He’s waited so long to see John Mayer LIVE. No wonder he stayed in NY!!
Too bad I HAVE to go to dreamland..work early tomorrow!
Good night all, and for David…

Wow, I always feel a little special when David is in NY! Soooo close, yet…
I remember briefly considering goint to the John Mayer concert and then forgetting. The Beacon theater is in Manhattan, on the upper west side (not Brooklyn).
I’ll never forget seeing the B-52′s there many years ago -- What my girlfriend and I didn’t go through to get there!
gg -- notice on FOD that you’re going to be at Baltimore Christmas Concert and VIP. I will be flying from Seattle to attend the Concert & VIP, as well. Would love to meet up with you and other FOD’s, as I don’t believe any TDC will be attending. I’ll be staying with my son & his family in Maryland for the week prior and just after the concert.
Sandy Beaches, thanks for sharing my post with FOD. If you’re attending either the Montclair or Westbury shows, I’d like to thank you in person. That was a very nice thing to do.
Bliss…you are most welcome! I will be attending the finale in Westbury and I will look forward to seeing you there. It will be a wonderful time.
SB
Liz- thank you for the information on Daniel Bedingfield. Now I really understand why David loves to work with him. It’s all about the story for those two. Their thoughts and feelings that they yearn to share with the world. True artists are willing to show that type of courage. I have to laugh about how some people feel it’s David who is the safe one. David’s quiet strength is truly a joy to behold.
I found a closeup Pat-a-Pan from the Kaleidoscope show!
Enjoy!
Bebereader,
What a great find!
I LIKE this look on him, and could he sound any better? I think this song is going to be alot of fun for us and for him!

Sales of Christmas music also continue to pick up, as more and more holiday releases hit the shelves (looks like Andrea Bocelli’s My Christmas is going to be the holiday hit of the season). David Archuleta’s Christmas From the Heart got past the 10,000 mark again, with a nice 56 percent increase in its weekly sales.

By the way good morning everyone from Sydney. JR , how are you?. Haven’t heard from you for a long time. I do hope everything is a Ok? I might go hope in late January 2010 for two weeks ( my Silver Jubilee). Hope to meet up with you and some ArchiePinoys.
