Crush MS Calendar Featured
Jennifer Barry Photos
I had to share this beautiful article about Jennifer Barry’s Crush MS Calendar Project from examiner.com
Fans of former American Idol contestant David Archuleta will be scrambling to get a copy of his new calendar. The calendar is the brainchild of one of his biggest fans photographer Jennifer Barry, who lives in Portland Oregon, with her husband Christian, and 4 year old son Sean.
Says Barry “ My husband is amazing and I wouldn’t be where I am today without him by my side. He is my best friend.”
Crooner David Archuleta first caught Leigh’s attention when he sang John Lennon’s ballad “Imagine”. SaidBarry “After his performance, I was stunned and the first word I said was “beautiful”. I was mesmerized by his performance.” Since then she began investigating the man behind the music, and found that he is “A remarkable and inspirational person. He is genuine and truly wants to help people.” She cites one example of this as his recent travels to Guatemala and Honduras through “Mentors International”, and recent song for Haiti relief.

The singer has many fan clubs and sites which Barry says she visits often. She has been lucky enough to meet Archuleta on eight occasions and see him in concert 9 times. The first time she saw him live was on July 11, 2008 when he performed in Portland for the American Idol Concert . He appeared along with other Idol contestants from that season.

Barry: “He, along with the other idols, came out to the buses in the afternoon before the concert to meet with fans. I was truly blown away by his willingness to chat with the fans and sign autographs. He was the last idol to leave the area. You could tell that while all this was new, he really enjoyed talking to everyone and it was genuine and very sincere.”
She recounts that she felt “blessed” that she was able to go to the American Idol Concert in Tulsa Oklahoma, and the VIP after party when it was over. Said Barry “ I finally had an opportunity to talk to him in Tulsa. I was amazed that he recognized me from a photo. Another amazing quality of David is that he remembers his fans, and he truly listens to what you say to him. He takes a genuine interest in what his fans say to him or want to show him. David makes you feel important.”
Her next behind the scenes experience with Archuleta will make any fan drool with envy. Barry purchased a “VIP Meet and Greet” pass which allowed her to get her photo and chat with David. Then they were escorted to the arena where they were able to watch him perform his sound check before the concert. “The VIP experience was truly amazing, memorable and so worth it. David makes each VIP special, unique and unforgettable”, said Leigh.
Said Barry “I have never traveled to see an artist perform before. But she has traveled many times to see Archuleta saying she thinks it is because “every concert he performs is so unique”. Meeting all the other fans has also become a important part of her Archuleta experience says Barry “Seeing all the fans is just as exciting because they make this experience so much more special, fun and one of a kind.”
In 2009 she had a chance to see his “Christmas From The Heart” tour in Salt Lake City. “It is very hard to describe the feelings seeing him perform in his hometown to songs that mean a lot to him,” said Barry
“The concert was phenomenal and awe inspiring. David’s voice soared, lifted and filled the venue and he took you on a special journey into something he holds very dear to him. I felt honored he shared something so special with his fans, “ said Barry .
Watching David perform “rekindled” her love of photography says Barry “I never realized that taking photos of David could make such an impact in my life.” The self taught photographer started shooting photos at age 10. She bought her first SLR Canon 40D, 6 years ago, and says that “After meeting David my photography took on a whole new perspective. If it wasn’t for the amazing support of David’s fans, I am not sure where my photography would be today. David has the best fans, period!”
Her “photo philosophy” : “I believe photography allows you to capture a moment in time that you can cherish forever. A photo can capture a moment that 10 years from now, a person can look at it and remember the feelings they had or memories they had simply by looking at a photo.” Her favorite shots are candid shots because as she says they “allow you to really capture someone. I love to capture who someone truly is in a photo.” She also enjoys shooting landscapes, flowers, horses, aviation, and sports.
She is inspired by the work of photographer Barbara Livingston who takes photos of horses. Said Barry “She takes amazing photographs of horses. She truly captures the beauty of a horse. Her photograph can tell a story by simply looking at it, which is what I hope to achieve in my photography.” Another photographer she admires is photographer Matthew McDermott, who captured the shot of a young boy being rescued 8 days after being buried in rubble in Haiti. “I checked out his photos and he captures the moment, whether harsh to look at or not, he captures the feelings”, said Barry
She says she has been able to get her amazing shots of David by being “lucky to get great seats”. Other times she says “ I had to wait patiently to see if better seats open up…the closer the better to take pictures. But it isn’t easy because camera polices vary from every venue you go to see a concert.”
She had been planning the calendar since her last one in 2009. The 2010 charity calendar “Be The Change, Be The Difference” David Archuleta Calendar so that all proceeds can go to support CRUSH MS. Said Barry “I created it in hopes of raising money and awareness to support Crush MS which is an important charity to David because so many people close to him like Brett Hales have been diagnosed with it. After being diagnosed with MS he (Brett Hales) has such an amazing spirit and outlook that impresses me and I am very inspired by him, which is why I wanted to try and “do a little” for MS” said Barry .

I just have to say that I recently purchased one of these calendars. Get one! You won’t be disappointed. The months begin in March 2010, so you won’t even miss a month of looking at the gorgeous photos.
Marlie:
Thank you very much for posting the article and more importantly information about the calendar. Trying to bring awareness that the calendar even exists has been challenging but fun. But because David’s fans are amazing, 72 calendars have sold, which is great!
All photos used in the calendar were taken by me at David’s Christmas From The Heart concert in SLC. I have been to 9 concerts but this concert moved me in more ways I can’t describe. I am still feeling it and smiling and wondering ow I was so fortunate to be a part of an unbelievable night.
I believe everyone who went to David’s CFTH concert can attest…you were left feeling moved beyond words, indescribeable. So, that is my hope and desire for this calendar. I wanted this calendar to be special and unique, something you can cherish even after the year is over. I wanted the photos to always move you as a reminder of what David shared with us this past Christmas…a bit of himself. Creating the calendar was a long process but I loved every minute of it. I would have created it anyway, but to have it help an important cause such as MS was very important to me.
After I met Brett Hales, I knew I wanted to help and after seeing Julee K. put so much time and effort into Crush MS, I knew I needed to help. In the United States today, there are approximately 400,000 people with multiple sclerosis (MS)—with 200 more people diagnosed every week. Since MS is not cureable at this time, money raised goes towards valuable research and funding the many programs created to assist those affected by MS.
The writer of the article is fast becoming a big fan of David and even more fan of David’s fans because she realizes that we are also genuine and truly want the best for David and for the world to see David for the amazing individual he is as a singer and as a person wanting to bring awareness more to charities in need than himself…which ironically brings attention to him :O)
I appreciate all your help!
Jennifer Barry
Still early enough to get a 2010 calendar, and this sounds like the best reason to get one: 1)for David and 2)for a cause!
BTW, I created my first poll on Soul David; trying to get a tally on what we think is the Best David Duet performance so far:

JenniferB, thank you for stopping by and thank you for sharing this calendar with us! David truly is a labor of love, isn’t he? I was amazed to see some of the pictures I’m now familiar with -- that are somewhat “iconic” -- are in this calendar! You are very talented.
If you ever have other projects that you’d like to share, give us a holler!
DAVID ARCHULETA DUET WITH JORDIN SPARKS “NO AIR”!!!
Ronald,
Thank you for the kind words. I am happy you like them. But you have me curious, which photos in the calendar are “somewhat iconic” :O).
David has encouraged me, without him knowing it, to go outside my comfort zone and see what I can do myself. It is something he does for all of us!

I met Jen at a brunch for David fans and I can now boast that I’m a proud owner of an original Jen Barry print.
All of her work is gorgeous.
I found this post over at MJ’s site and found it hilarious and wanted to share with you guys over here-
Kelly Clarkson Responds to Taylor Swift’s Label Chief
Uh oh. Kelly Clarkson is pissed. In an attempt to defend Taylor Swift from recent criticisms of her melody-challenged Grammy performance, the head of her label, Scott Borchetta, took a swipe at American Idol and it’s singers:
She is the voice of this generation. She speaks directly to (her fans), and they speak directly back to her,” said Big Machine Records CEO Scott Borchetta in a phone interview. “This is not `American Idol.’ This is not a competition of getting up and seeing who can sing the highest note. This is about a true artist and writer and communicator. It’s not about that technically perfect performance.
Kelly fired back on her blog:
Wow …..Dear Scott Borchetta,
I understand defending your artist obviously because I have done the same in the past for artists I like, including Taylor, so you might see why its upsetting to read you attacking American Idol for producing simply vocalists that hit ‘the high notes’. Thank you for that ‘Captain Obvious’ sense of humor because you know what, we not only hit the high notes, you forgot to mention we generally hit the ‘right’ notes as well. Every artist has a bad performance or two and that is understandable, but throwing blame will not make the situation at hand any better. I have been criticized left and right for having shaky performances before (and they were shaky) and what my manager or label executives say to me and the public is “I’ll kick butt next time” or “every performance isn’t going to be perfect” ……I bring this up because you should take a lesson from these people and instead of lashing out at other artists (that in your ‘humble’ opinion lack true artistry), you should simply take a breath and realize that sometimes things won’t go according to plan or work out and that’s okay.
Sincerely,
One of those contestants from American Idol who only made it because of her high notes
Way to go Kelly, I’m quite tired of TPTB trying to pass off what they are selling as art. Hopefully the tides will turn and the public will once again, appreciate true artists.
Check this out from Kristen (ArchieLove04):
cutter12, interesting that Taylor’s label head honcho felt compelled to defend her, but to do so tastelessly by slamming AI alumni as non-artist essentially. So good of Kelly to have a response.
In my mind, in visual art at least, and I will presume it’s no different in music, “technical skill” alone does not make you an artist, and artistry, however that is defined, counts for a lot more than technical skill, but that said, to have both the artistry AND technical prowess, that’s what makes a great artist.
David, needless to say, has both, and more!!! Yes, David IS “a true artist and writer and communicator”!! The nerve of Scott Borchetta to even insinuate that the Idols is only about hitting the high notes. I see a big L on his forehead. I know, not very David like of me, that last sentence. Lately, hubby likes to call me out with “Would David say something like that?” LOL.
Has anyone noticed that David seems finally to be comfortable tucking in his shirt? He looks great!
Okay, I’m spamming, but this is a nice little blurb again from NeonLimeLight discussing this year’s crop of AI hopefuls:
Not one of my favorites, but sure to go places this season is 16-year-old Aaron Kelly, who some are hastily calling “the next David Archuleta.” Kelly was able to give a ‘way better than the original’ version of Miley Cyrus‘ “The Climb,” but anyone with the vocal range of a grapefruit could do better than Miley. Come back to me with that comparison after Kelly tackles the depths of John Lennon masterfully.
Naughty IDOLATOR implying sumthin, sumthin…
“Finally heading to bed,” Archuleta tweeted last night. “But so awesome getting to sing with @TheRealJordin !! A privilege to sing with someone so talented!”
We’re not sure exactly what shenanigans these two got up to after their performance, though. This morning, Archie posted another message to Twitter:
Having a checkup at the doctor’s to see what’s going on with the swelling in my mouth. Haha.
But the article is quite favorable — the title best sums it up LOL

And then Starkley Hearing Foundation’s NO-AIR
http://ow.ly/13Rtn
You said it perfectly Vermeer. It is a combination of many factors that create true artists and David has them in spades. And I think Scott Borchetta may now regret ever making that statement because Kelly’s post has spread throughout the internet.
Here’s another little post about a certain AI alum who is very good at hitting the “right notes”.
Posted on Winterland Studios’ Myspace page:
“We just hosted David Archuleta along with his producer Eman in Studio A. David was the runner up on the last season of American Idol and is signed to Jive Records.
We were impressed with their professionalism and talent. Its easy to be sceptical when someone is young and hits it big because of being on TV in front of millions, but this boy can sing. No Autotune needed.”
Am gasping, ooops! spamming, another NO AIR (1st one) with BETTER AUDIO (the best so far) by sdb66

Good morning archies
Oh, JR, good morning! (It’s afternoon now, but…) Thanks for the links.
Cutter12: Love the quote from Winterland Studios “no Autotune needed”. No kidding, all you producers and recording studio execs -- take note. This guy can truly sing!
(Good Lord, where have they all been?)
OMG -- check out this hilarious conversation about David’s derriere.
http://www.tabloidprodigy.com/?p=10243
I have to share this in case it’s been missed. Now that I think about it, I think I saw it mentioned first by Becky at FOD (old memory is shaky), but got sidetracked and didn’t go there, then at orly today (yes Marlie I saw that tabloid prodigy thing about David’s um.. well defined silhouette! got there from orly too), the comments section to the Valentine’s card post had a link to Bianca’s blog and her fun fun post “Memory Lane: Vulture Blog Love for David Archuleta”. I have saved some of the charts myself way back when but I have not seen many of these. It’s a must see!!

re: Bianca’s blog post, it was janey/SA who said to go check it out! Yeah, go check it out! And also thanks to janey, I got to see/read the “Vulture Is Officially in Mourning” post. Rather painful to remember this part, but I like what Vulture did with the graphics.

g’nite!
oh one more thing, I too will soon be a very happy owner of a Jennifer Barry’s calendar. I can’t wait to see the beautiful photographs. I had the pleasure of meeting Jennifer at the SLC airport in a restaurant while waiting for our flights. I recognized her so went up to her to say hello and had a little chat. I am thankful for the opportunities to contribute now and then to the MS cause. I didn’t know anyone personally afflicted with MS until last year when my sister-in-law was diagnosed with it. So thank you to Jennifer and momjulee and others who work hard to make so many good things happen.
Can you handle one more NO AIR duet?
Here is the USTREAM VERSION of NO AIR (HD):
I dunno why, but YT has some delays displaying my vids in the search results. Anw, enjoy the close-ups & the download link!
Thanks to ABRRA, we have a close-up vid of Miami’s APOLOGIZE
I created an HD file from it, in MP4 & AVI format. They are still uploading to my mediafire. Just check them out later
