AI Season 9 – Yawn
Okay, tonight was a better night for some of these contestants. Michael connected with the audience, Crystal sang well in her stiletto heels, Andrew made a bit of a comeback, and Lee came out of his shell to show off his fine chops.
But oh, the rest of the crew was insanely boring, pitchy, bland and robotic.
There will never be another Season 7 for us – we know that. But at least we should be able to get a little bit excited about someone on this show. There isn’t even any real controversy to mask the lack of talent and personality on the show this year.
Is it me, or is this the worst AI ever? Am I being harsh, or are my expectations too high after Season 7?

Ha-ha-ha!
I just posted in the previous thread, not realizing there is a new one. Funny thing is my comment was spot-on for this thread! Re-posting it now:

You know that the Idol Season is not doing well when media, instead of focusing on the current season, keeps on dipping into past seasons.
EW is at it again:

… ”Imagine,” John Lennon

Another interesting review here on the Seattle Times, and the last paragraph is this:
My personal advice is that no one dare touch “Shop Around” tonight (or any night for that matter). It doesn’t get any better than David Archuleta from Season 7 (see video below). Can I admit here that I still have this performance saved on TiVo?

I’m inherently not a mean person, but I was 100% with my friend when he sent out tweet after tweet: “X has no talent! Wake up, America! X must go now!”
I remember liking nearly all the Season 7 top twelve, with only a couple exceptions. Some of the non-Davids would be co frontrunners for this season imho.
I loved Siobhan when she delivered The Note a few weeks back, and I lover her personality, but she’s wildly uneven right now. I’m in the Crystal corner right now.
I´m having a hard time trying to pick a favorite in a sea of mediocrity. Never has that been an issue for me before. In all AI seasons I have found my favorite, usually during top 24 already. David, however, was an exception -- I loved him from the second I saw him audition and couldn´t wait to see him each week. And I always watched his performances beforehand on youtube and then again when the show aired in Finland. God I loved him, and I still do <3
Oh, I totally sent my comment before it was finished
Sorry.
So, this season there hasn´t been any wow -moments for me. Nobody´s voice stands out as unique, nobody´s charisma shines through. And the judges´ comments feel forced. They don´t want to embarrass the show and it´s concept by publicly admitting that none of the “idols” have genuine star factor, so they have to find something good to say about someone.
They´re pimping big-Mike, that´s obvious, and Ellen even said that his story about the baby etc. was really important for him to gain popularity. Personally, I dislike Mike a bit. I have always found it off-putting when “big” guys make a big deal about their size. Let me tell ya right now “big” Mike: my fiancé is 6’43, weighs about 231,5 and doesn´t get crap from ANYONE -- not because he goes on and on about how big he is, but because HE DOESN`T HAVE TO. He´s confident in his body, enough so that he doesn´t feel the need to point out the obvious; that he is a big guy. Most of the time he doesn´t even think about it, except when buying for clothes or trying to get a decent seat at an aeroplane. So, Mikey, you´re not that tall and don´t seem to have that much power in your legs (really skinny for someone who´s a professional in exercising) and you have a good amount of fat on your arms, stomach and back. I am NOT saying there´s anything wrong with it. ALL I´m saying is, that if you´re gonna brag about something, at least have something to back it up man.
O geez, I´m sorry for my totally irrelevant rant. Please feel free to ignore me. Apparently I´m just a little irritated by the lack of talent this season :/ David set the bar soooo high.
Oh embe, I LOVE your rant, and no apologies are needed. Your fiance sounds HAWT!
ronaldsf: Thanks
I just have this pet-peeve regarding people like big Mike. And I think his voice is really mediocre, like a basic voice black men often have. AND I hate it when people use irrelevant factors to gain popularity -- I mean, how is it adding to Mike´s talent if his wife had a baby? It´s the miracle of life, that I get. But firstly, I´d never ever guide my spouse through labor ON NATIONAL TELEVISION, and secondly, I´d hate myself if that was the main reason for my popularity.
And Ronald -- there´s a special Easter treat for ya in your email inbox
