I still can’t get to the new site.
I thinked so much before to leave acomment to this main post, but in order to be honest, i need to said that even if the intention was good, this is not right. If David want to have some credibility in the charity label he need to organize his own site(many artist have one) informing to his fans what kind of charities is he supporting and leading and clearly describing who is working with….he can’t leave people use his name to demand money in a ‘global dimension’, the legal implications can affect him and his image in the case some people go in trouble with this kids of collects. BTW famous people don’t start their chariy sites just for vanity , but because they know their name can be affected by this kind of activities, fans want to say thanks? Give on his name ,but collecting money all over the planet using his name without him be resposible? is just bad and so off of question. Not ethical at all from my point view.
NEW VLOG!
tibitibis: My understanding is that David is aware of this and supports it. The scholarship goes to a student at his home high school.
Tibitibis, those are valid concerns. Hopefully David and Co. can clear things up. I’m not sure why they wouldn’t, if what Marlie says is true.
And by the way, the NEW WEBSITE NOW WORKS!
I’m likin the layout.
#7 Marlie7 .
The first tweet i saw about made me understand the same and the fact they said ‘David Knows’ have some implications already and some responsabilities for him. And if is true that this has his support i will be very disappointed of him, since in the World exist more needs that give an HS student of Murray UT (School where he studed just 1 year and a half) an do an scholarship, i don’t said is bad, but this don’t deserve a global call for money…i don’t know how explain better but again point view ethical something is wrong.
#8 Ronaldsf thanks for you replay and yes i hope someone realistic on his team can give him a good advise about this kind of projets, is not the first time i saw this and it ended in problems for the public figure in this case can be ‘David’.
Tibitibis #9, sure, one could argue that there are more important causes. (I for one don’t think funds should simply go to those who are most devastated, but to political efforts to change the conditions that create these tragedies.)
But I’m under the impression that this is under fan initiative, which David can’t always direct. It might be a stranger thing, if he were to refuse the use of his name for an initiative that is already going forward, and to insist that they support another cause dearer to him instead.
It seems to me that any issue about where the funds from a fan-initiated charity effort should go should be an issue involving the fans initiating it, instead of David himself. Sure, it’s David’s name being used, but the whole idea of exercising ownership by restricting the use of one’s name, seems distasteful to me when charity is involved.
While I have strong personal opinions about where money could best be spent, I do applaud any positive effort for a good cause, as well as your own commitment to express concern about this particular one, Tibitibis.
I think this charity effort is a great and positive thing. And I’m not terribly concerned about the “Giving Capital” of David’s fanbase running dry. If another group of committed individuals were to initiate another cause on the forums, I’m sure it would also get another positive response—when it comes to generosity, the David fan community is an embarrassment of riches. So anywayz, all power to yuhs.
Great response RonaldSF…. It is kind of a dilemma isnit it? Probably more for David than most other artists. Somehow he simply inspires people to want to do things in his name? It would be kinda hard to say no when that happens. And people keep doing it! Pretty amazing stuff. Guess that is not a really bad problem to have… however I do see Tibi’s point that the day could come that someone would intentionally or even unintentionally do something inappropriate. Let’s hope that does not ever happen.

1. Before to start i need to demand excuses for my typo and grammar faults in my last reply, but my ordi suddenly stopped to work and i don’t even had the time to finish my post.
2. I need too make clear that this concerns don’t coming from this especific situation, i expressed in the past similars observations about people using his name to collect fonds for a ‘Good Cause’without any kind of supervision from his people.
3. I do applaud too any positive effort for a good cause , Picanpie Crushcancer campaign, Great!, Virtual cupcakes, Sweet!,Auctions and like that this kind of collects made for fans to make donations ‘ in his name’(Different to this campaign) to Great Charities.
4. I’m not terribly concerned either about the “Giving Capital” of David’s fanbase like you said (but i need to say even the most poor fans made big donations in the past too). But Geeezz i hope NOT more groups of ‘committed individuals’ gonna take similars initiatives, that would be really difficult to control and absolutely inappropriate for David, see individuals groups of fans bugging people demanding money for ramdoms causes using David’s name.
5.’We are doing this to say thanks to David’ idk what to think about that either,if taking like true what you said about that would be a ‘stranger thing, if he were to refuse the use of his name for …’, but they’re using too his own tools(his twitter name) to communicate with his fans, for that purpose, they’re literally spamming his friends, producers, coworkers, media , fans …..to me looks that is really David’s name and ways who is collecting the help for them.
6. I insist that this kind of uncontrolled initiative can hurt David in a long run, even if the legals implications can’t touch him. the fact that his name is the one used to make the call for money a lonely rumor or isolated scandal can be really really annoying for him and his image.
7. I reiterate my wishes for David to have a realistic and experimented person by his side to give him a good advise about this.
8. To finish i extend my excuses to the administrators of the site if this post is annoying for you, but tbh i was a little surprised to see this call posted here, not for the charity aspect, but because people really need complete information about this kind of ‘Fans Projets’, when we talk about collecting money in a global label. far enough of the initial emotion where most people just see DavidArchuleta-Charity…so
Thanks for let me post my concerns.:)
G’night i moving on now
TIBI -- you have raised very valid concerns and I can understand where you are coming from. Pls don’t think that your post is annoying anyone here. No matter how good the intention is, we should ask permission 1st to attach his name to any project — which I hope is the case in the scholarship project.
I also hear you about the potential “danger” if this gets out of hand or the probability or possibility that fan groups within David’s community try to outdo one another. Am not saying that this is happening already cos I don’t have any personal knowledge of that.
But I totally appreciate that you have voiced your concerns about this. Thank you very much.
tibi: I agree, you raise valid concerns. I hadn’t thought about how this could all get out of control…and how awful it would be if someone who was not as honest as most of his fans are, took the liberty of using his name for a charity that turned out to be a scam of some kind.
And I love it when you post and say just what you feel. You made me think about this more than i had at the start.
Boy do I miss this …
And this …
For the most part, I’m w/ronaldsf #11 in that I applaud the effort. My biggest concern is expressed in paragraph 5 by tibitibis #13.
“…they’re using too his own tools(his twitter name) to communicate with his fans, for that purpose, they’re literally spamming his friends, producers, coworkers, media , fans…”
It’s a pet peeve of mine whenever fans directly spam others in the music industry on David’s behalf (eg., vote for David, watch his video, donate to his scholarship, etc.) On the flip side, to me, this is just the nature of the Internet. Anybody can post anything about anyone. I’m sure the songwriters, singers, producers, etc., do just like us and ignore most of those types of tweets.
Marlie: re the Barries video @16. I love, LOVE how he
performs that song, especially all the little hand motions. David does what some may view as cheesy and totally makes them adorable and hot at the same time. The motions and facial expressions are the icecream with the pie.
ok- off to my son’s baseball games…Have a great day!
