The Guy @ 2:30…
The release of Somos El Mundo has spawned increased interest with TheArchulator. YouTube, Twitter & other online uploads have been peppered with comments and questions about him. I have read some unflattering remarks about the video or about certain artists or some complaints about not seeing other more internationally known Hispanic celebrities. But, I have yet to encounter a negative feedback specific to David.
Comments about him are heartwarming, some hilarious and a number, surprising — like not knowing he has Hispanic roots. Depending on which version of the video you are checking out, you invariably see inquiries about the guy at 2:30 or 2:11 or 2:36 or 2:44 or 4:20 or 6:19, etc… and they all point to him!
Alguien me podria decir quien es el jovencito de ojos verdes del min 2:30 al 2:36? Mil gracias (Can someone tell who is the green-eyed boy of 2:30 to 2:36 min? Thanks a lot!)

(Hi I’m from Brazil and I love the version, can someone please tell me who is the blue-eyed boy who sings a solo part? I love his voice!!
2:32..i wanna know his name..
His name is David Archuleta. I didn’t even know he spoke Spanish. The cover sounds really nice.
Quien es el del minuto 2:30 m gushhta
David Archuletta. Es el que gano american idol hace un ano creo y normalmente canta en ingles (David Archuletta is the american idol who won a year ago and usually sings in English)
El de min:2:30, es David Archuleta, del american idol?? Si es asi me encanta que este alli, aunque no sabia que cantaba en español, me encanto la parte de belinda, luis fonsi, kany garcia, espectacular!! ah! y Jhon secada!!! At 2:30, that’s David Archuleta?? If yes, then I love that he is there, but did not know he sings in Spanish, I also love the part of Belinda, Luis Fonsi, Kany Garcia, spectacular! ah! and Jhon Secada!)
(Funny how nobody knows David Archuleta is Latino. His surname means “Porkchop” in SPANISH. So if you were born in the U.S. non-Latino? He is an incredible singer, Luis Fonsi him and stole everything for me. Incredible!)
La mejor parte es del chico hondureño americano creo q es David Archuleta muy buen cantante (The best part is the Honduran boy American I think David Archuleta is very good singer)
@Songbird6282 el David ARchuleta es el niño que sale en el minuto 2.30 ? o quién es ese niño? podrías decirme por favor?? (@ Songbird6282 The David Archuleta is the child exiting the minute 2.30? or who is this kid? could you tell me please?)
En cambio @DavidArchie (Archuleta de Idol) le pone todo su corazón. (In contrast, @DavidArchie [Archuleta from Idol] puts his entire heart into it — twitted by Jonathan Blum, Director E! Entertainment TV Latin America.)
God who’s the babe who sings after Juan L. Guerra…he’s fine!!
So, will this prompt David’s Management & Jive put a more concerted effort to reach out to the huge, rich Hispanic market? Or at least seriously consider a Spanish album soon? Whatever the case, am just happy that new markets out of the AI frontier is discovering or re-discovering that guy @ 2:30 — our guy!
Have you ordered the song and video from iTunes? Let us not forget what Somos El Mundo is all about
A restful weekend to all!

I’m always so thrilled to see comments about David -- but especially when people comment so positively who aren’t really “fans”. His voice just catches people, pulls at their hearts, and sucks them right in. Another one (or more) bites the dust
WOW, JR, so apparently David made a huge impression, didn’t he? Did he get the most comments, or at least most of the “who’s he” comments?
It’s interesting to see the “other side” having its own moment of discovery. Many in the U.S. are surprised to know that he’s Latino. It’s interesting to see that even Latinos are pleasantly surprised to know that he’s Latino!
And they must be so proud to know that “one of their own” nearly conquered American Idol and is now a legitimate star in the U.S.!
I love to “share” David, like I do my other addictions. I get a distinct pleasure from vicariously experiencing things for the first time through other people. My friends teasingly call me “the Pusher” lol. That’s why it me tickles me pink to read comments like these. Thanks JR!
Very interesting article by a minja, over at DABuzzing.org comparing David’s artistry early in his career to a young Michelangelo:
http://www.dabuzzing.org/michelangelo/
JR, thx for sharing the comments; they are fun to read.
During AI7, David was my fav but I wasn’t ODD. Hence, I never even noticed his mother in the audience until watching Youtube videos after the finale. During AI, when I saw this photo of David in Vegas w/a woman on his arm, I thought it was actress, Rosie Perez. I assumed she wanted to meet him because he was Latino.

Thanks for the article and for translating the comments! For ronaldsf -- I am a pusher too. Haha. And I totally love seeing new people discover and appreciate David.
My favorite past time is translating the tweets in Spanish about David. He is most definitely on their radar after his performance in Somos El Mundo. Maybe I’m weird, but I get a thrill living vicarously through their newfound fandom.
Maybe I should warn them to strap on their seatbelts, they are in for a wonderful ride!
Hey JR, that was great reading all of the tweets about David. I was wondering what the Hispanic people were thinking about him, especially the ones who have never heard him sing…That was fun and I hope that you will pass along anything else that you discover about the green-eyed fellow named …”Porkchop”.
Let’s see where that name goes from here.
SB
Isn’t it crazy? To find how others are so drawn to his “green eyes”, creamy skin and angelic voice. Am sure they are getting the WhatTheHeckJustHappened?! moment that all of us archies experienced.
And they call him babe! Tickles me pink LOL
Just to put in context onathan Blum’s comment: he was comparing David’s performance with Shakira.
JONER -- pls feel free to correct me with the translations. And since it is your past time, can you check if I got this one correctly?
“2:30 que ojos tiene ese chico por dios!..Muy linda la cancion, la verdad que me emocioné
me encanta que ayuden tanto a un país que lo necesita
”
(That kid’s eyes at 2:30 OMG! Very nice song, really touched me:) I love to help a country that needs it)
This one is easier:
“Quién es el hombre guapo en 02:30 ?
(Who’s the handsome man at 2:30?)
This one, all I can say -- DUH! “He is sexy!”
It’s great to see that “Somos El Mundo” is helping some new fans discover David!
On a little different note, I’m still listening to “She’s Not You.” There’s something strangely comforting about David’s voice in that song.
olemr2001, I hear you, I hear you! … something strangely comforting about his voice…
Another awesome post JR! It is extremely exciting to get a peak into the reactions of those who were just exposed to the awesomeage that is David “Porkchop” Archuleta (haha SB!)
I can pretty much only listen to the part of ‘Somos . .’ when that ‘green eyed kid’ sings. It really is the only part of the song, that doesn’t make me feel like my cable is stuck on ‘Telemundo’, during the cheesiest parts of ‘Sabado Gigante’, and I can’t find the remote. Don’t even get me started on the Shakira part…. Also still loving ‘She’s Not You’. It’s the most active video on my youtube channel right now, and of course all positive comments and 5 star rating for the ‘clear eyed boy! (:
olemr2001, vermeer- “I’m still listening to “She’s Not You.”
Ditto. It has gripped me and not let me go.
JesseQ-Sabado Gigante, well there is no word to describe it and so I won’t even go there. Something definitely goin’ on with Shakira. Yeah! “She’s Not You”. I don’t know what it is about that song.
Anybody out there a dancer? Just gave “She’s Not You” a bachata try and I know some are probably cringing but it works for me!
lol
I was enjoying the comments about David in ‘Somos El Mundo’ too and i was so happy that i don’t found any negative opinion yet, nobody can say that he can’t sing and put such amount of emotions to even a sentence or a word…i LOVE IT!!
I find funny the reference about his eyes and the perception about his age : child, boy, babe not sure if is good but i take the good comments anytime .
I remember Simon Fuller saying:”He is a genuine pop star, and is a gifted singer,” and Tom Carrabba, Executive Vice President and General Manager, Jive/Zomba Label Group saying “David Archuleta has already shown the world that he is a star. He’s a young, talented singer with wide appeal and we’re thrilled to have him join our roster.”
..and guess what…IS TRUE!!:) His voice is a gift and he definitely have a wide appeal that can attract people from many cultures American , Latino, Asian and with a little push of Jive/Sony the European market too…so high Hopes for a good promo and good work from his management for the second album release. BTW i still wishing his Official Site gonna work and update with all his even littles events this time !
to finish i found this comment …well cute or funny idk LOL
Hey hey de lujo pero una duda kien es el pequeñin de el 2:31?????
Hey hey fancy but a who is the little(tiny) man from at 2:31 ?????
‘Pequenin’ ha, ha, sound cute
For some reason, this is my favorite…
God who’s the babe who sings after Juan L. Guerra…he’s fine!! (jeesh, where they been?) LOL!
Before to say G’night : do you realize that if David arrive to put a succesful spanish album in the spanish market will be the first anglo male singer to do the crossover to a Big Market with different language? i mean usually crossovers act do the same thing from a foreign language to the anglo market, but in this case is From the anglo market to the Spanish market, both of them BIG…the goal to achieve is to keep up his career in the two Markets….i guess only Shakira and Enrique Iglesias and Marc Antony have that honors …pretty exciting uh?
Good Night!
Tibitibis, that’s a great observation -- if we mean anglo in the linguistic sense. Can you imagine how proud his abuela would be!
I love the way everyone calls David “the boy with green eyes”
Funny to see which feature those new to David pay attention to! ´Cause we all know about the obsession with David´s thighs, hair, hands etc. among us archies, but for everyone that is just discovering David, it´s all about the eyes.
EMBE -- the eyes, FOR NOW! Am sure that they have checked his videos online and they are one by one finding that they cannot stop listening or watching him. Then BAM! They notice the hands, the thighs, the hair, the smile, the dimple, the lips, on and on… bahahahahahahahahahaha.
I still crack every time I remember him petting the guitar in one of his concerts. My kids saw me laughing to myself while remembering that — how the heck do I explain myself to them!
Here is another comment:
What I love about his voice is the fact that they don’t have to alter it on his album to make him sound like something that he isn’t.
Like Joner, I get a thrill out of reading tweets from those who are discovering David for the first time and want to know more. Perhaps I need to cut Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber some slack. Seems seems those open eyes do have a magical connection.
jackryan4da: Yeah, I have a feeling David´s taking over many, many hearts as we speak. I´m an exercise-fanatic, and practically live at the gym, so I tend to notice muscles and “fitness” aspects of people´s appearance. And I gotta say, that not many guys have thighs like David´s. And a butt like that I´ve only seen on ice hockey players (like my fiancé lol). So I´d LOVE to go to the gym with David and just watch him lift weights and do squats (´cause of course I wouldn´t be able to exercise at all in his presence
). God I´m weird.
Anyway, I was wondering where I could see the video of David petting the guitar? I´ve seen a .gif of it, but I wanna see the whole thing!
“I still crack every time I remember him petting the guitar in one of his concerts.”
I don’t know if this has been posted yet, but r2rod2 did an MGR of David in Somos El Mundo
…
Embe, I concur!
You might appreciate these threads on IDF that were started a while back…

Not very related, but if you’re from the 80s you might like this…
The equivalent to “the guy at 2:30″ in the original WATW video up on YouTube, is Bruce Springsteen
Over and over again, “Who’s the guy at 2:15?” “Who’s singing with Stevie?”
(grooving to HNY, er SNY) Continuing with the theme how David is being perceived in the Hispanic market --
These Latino idols are courageous, committed and extraordinarily talented. And they are all age 30 and under. We look at who they are, what they do, and the qualities leading them to greatness.
David Archuleta, 19
American Idol
Now a mainstay of pop radio, Archuleta gained fame as the first runner-up on American Idol in 2008. One of the youngest contestants on the show, his boyish charm made him a favorite throughout the competition. During its final moments, he registered more than 97 million audience votes in his favor. Forbes named him a breakout star of 2008. His album has sold more than 900,000 copies globally.

ronaldsf: I´m actually a member at IDF, though I don´t post there that often. Some of the stuff posted there is quite “teeny”, so TDC is a nice contrast to it. But I do appreciate threads like the ones you posted, lol. There´s no denying that a part of David´s charm is his extraordinary gorgeousness
EMBE -- here is the video showing David “petting” Mike’s guitar
Watch for it at the start, about counter :14 -- LOL
embe: You are not weird -- I think you fit in nicely with all the rest of us ODD’ers
JR: I had to watch the whole video…several times LOL Loved that “petting the guitar” gesture
#17 Ronaldsf ”if we mean anglo in the linguistic sense. Can you imagine how proud his abuela would be!”
Well i mean the US/english world market, starting for US, i really don’t know why JIVE don’t pushed a little more the promo when the Mcfly tour in UK, i’m sure he is attractive in the european market, but looks like Sony is taking others idol priorities before David (Epic Fail of Jive BTW) , but if his management really work a little more for his second album , they can find gigs for him in Europe late this year (i mean like opener or support act for someone big). I hope !
Trying to entertain myself during this mini Archudrought, I went and compared the different versions of “We Are The World”.
Here’s my take on five versions of that song.
1)Youtube Version
There’s something endearing and sweet about ordinary people being involved in extraordinary events.
2) Somos El Mundo
)
Voices blended beautifully together (save one) and the transition to the rap part was smooth and it was more in your face type of attitude. You could tell everyone was having fun. Even though some of the lyrics were serious, it was still a celebration and everyone here could sing. (Except, maybe Andy Garcia, though he’s ALWAYS nice to look at.
3) We are the World (original)
This is a nice version but I think they were taking themselves way to seriously. And this group also had people who could sing but, Dionne & Willie shouldn’t have sung together and too much of Springsteen.
4)We Are The Worms
These words can not mean more to any others, than to this group here.
5) Remake
Why did they start with Bieber? The lyrics of “when we heed a certain call” is just not believable. No one over the age of 13 is going to heed him in any way, shape or form.
And there is way too much grandstanding in the video. For me, there was no feeling of unity.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=evJ1JUh8JSs
There is a SNL version also, but I won’t go there because of a mention of a certain person.
