Manincap Off Management Team
David Divulges on Seacrest Radio
News is spreading fast across Archuland of David’s report to Ryan Seacrest on his radio program this morning that David’s father is no longer part of his management team.
In discussing his forthcoming book, Seacrest asks David what he expects his dad might think of the book. “My dad is my dad,” David explains, then adds, “just like my mom is my mom and my brother is my brother.” He reiterates a familiar point about how important family is to him, and then remarks, rather offhandedly, that “my dad was part of my management team for a little while; he isn’t anymore.”
The interview can be found at the following link, and is definitely worth a listen. David talks about standing up for himself and making his own decisions, and in general talks a blue streak. Very refreshing. Like the news.

(whistle, whistle, whistle) Hmmm, what did I hear. #Manincap not on management team anymore? hee hee.
So like David to toss off this information with such nonchalance. So anti-drama, that boy. Unlike, you know, his fans
Haha, I posted the link to the interview in the previous link, not realizing there’s a new thread.

After the drought, some rain must fall. Well folks, be ready for a deluge!
Great interview! And I agree with Ryan: Maybe David should have his own talk show.
RYAN: “Am thinking you need a talk show!”
Dear Ryan,
Please make it happen?
JR
Yippy Daddy is no longer manager. I have heard some inside stuff about that demise.
OK ha ha to David doing a talk show. Can you say sing show? I love David but he is not a talking prodigy. Funny I think that is what every body loves a lot about David is he is SOOOOOO not cocky about anything.
I loved the interview with Ryan. I am glad they are friends.
Gahhhhh who can’t love David
@grafico.artista -- oh, now come on! you can’t toss out a comment like, “I have heard some inside stuff about that demise” and leave it at that! This is probably the only DA fan site that won’t jump all over you for saying anything other than “OMG he’s awesome,” or some variation thereof, so spill
I haven’t been keeping my ear as close to the ground as I once did, but regardless of which particular straw broke the camel’s back in this situation, it was undoubtedly inevitable and a long time in coming. I maintain my belief that David was not at all happy with the Christmas album, and that it contributed to his understanding of how Manincap could compromise his work, but that’s just a theory.
David’s debut album moved back to the Top1000 after his performance last night
http://ax.itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wpa/MRSS/topalbums/sf=4403441/limit=0000/rss.xml
YAY! Hope it is enough to solidify the platinum status of the album or 2x platinum of Crush.
Hi everyone! Wow, lots of news in Archuland: Imagine performance, album release date, single release date, and this classy, quiet announcement about David’s management change.
Just to preempt some potential drama here at TDC: many fans have thought this has been a negative factor in David’s career for a long time, and understand that this is positive news. Let’s remember what unites us and our shared concern for the development of David’s career and personal well-being.
Wow — I am stunned by the news. I sensed something was different about David last night. I heard rumblings that Jeff would be further away from David’s work, but I am surprised that he’s out of management altogether. I wonder what caused the final straw?
I also have not had my ear to the ground as I once did, so it will be interesting to see further developments in the coming months.
There was probably no final straw. Perhaps strings of development, feedback from other people in the last 6-12 months? Am just imagining his work in the 2nd album and how it has widened his association across the industry.
But what do i know? So @grafico.artista -- spill?
Oh my. I too am stunned. It seems like David is totally developing into something I don´t know how to handle. Well then, YOU handle ME, David. That´s fine by me
I just… wow. I really don´t know what to say. I just keep thinking David can´t be real. He cannot be both super-hyper talented and so very humble. (Dean Kaelin once told a story about David. Apparently a little before David decided to audition, he had been bored with nothing to do. So he went around the neighbourhood, asking widows and elderly people if he could help them by mowing their lawn etc. At the end of the day he came home and Jeff saw that he looked upset. Jeff asked David why he was so sad, and David responded with “They made me take money.”)
David never wants to hurt anyone or step on anybody´s toes. Still, he is very determined and professional and strives to be “perfect” when it comes to music.
He allegedly never gets mad or raises his voice in anger, but one can be sure he expressed his disappointment towards his father after the you-know-what-incident.
He is both a young, innocent, pure soul and a hard worker and a businessman. He is gentle, doesn´t swear, doesn´t get sarcasm, but yet he seems unaffected by rumours, the media, gossip and harsh critique.
On a more superficial note, his facial features are so beautiful, so symmetrical and he has skin like a peach, yet he sees himself as “weird-looking”. He works out, eats healthily and wears tighter-than-tight jeans, but swims with a t-shirt on.
David isn´t human. He is something else.
i am neither shocked or surprised by this announcement… it was a long time coming… maybe now David can express his true self in his music in his live performances and in life
I was about to thank JR for the link to the interview in the other thread when I noticed the new post. Well thanks JR regardless!
I must be in the minority here. Much as I disliked intensely all the Jeff related negative issues, this interview made me cry. Cry for both David, and Jeff. Yes, Jeff. I too would be curious to know the whys of the manager relationship ending, as I would be interested in anything David as always. But more interesting than that, to me was listening to David talk about how his father is the man who always looked out for him and spoke up for him and actually hearing David speak of how his father ended up with all the flack, felt like a punch in my gut. It’s not that anything he said was big news, but hearing David himself actually say all that about his father in that way just made me feel very bad for Jeff. I did before too regardless of the fact that he brought it on himself, but this really got to me.
Ryan asking what his dad might think of the book leads me to think David wrote frankly about things that were never spoken post the Jeff scandal. Just guessing.
David sounded so mature. embe, I hear you! What to do with David when he is simply so beyond awesome?! First slaying us with Imagine 3.0, then this interview! I feel like I need to lie down LOL but back to work… so much to do… see you all later!
I would be very surprised if David were frank in the book about Jeff or his private family life I am expecting an upbeat book about how his faith helped him overcome his voice troubles and personal doubts. I don’t expect the book to tell me much of what I already have heard, outside more information about his faith and specific theology. But maybe he will surprise me.
Freo -- I agree with your #15 comment.
This information begs the age-old question -- was he forced out or did he quit? We will never truly know the ins and outs of this father/manager/music collaborator/father again relationship.*shakes head*
Joymus: whatever it was, there seemed to be a three (or four) way relationship between David, Jeff, Jive, and Azoff. Just by nature of that, David could not have been a non-factor in this latest development: either David played an active role in making it happen (in his own meek and modest way), or was deliberately silent while others made it happen. (The last possibility -- that he actively fought for Jeff to stay on the team -- just doesn’t seem plausible for its own reasons.) So, in whatever form it was, it was a decision, and one he should be proud of.
Ronald -- Thanks for your comment. I wanted to add that Jeff no longer having an active hand in David’s career development, may not mean that all has been cut away in their relationship. I am sure that David still shares with him stuff he has written or is working on even if only in the context of -- hey this is what we came up with and recorded today. David probably has corraled him business-wise to a ‘What do you think of this? role. This refers to the ‘ins and outs” part of my comment. David obviously still treasures the bonds of family separate and apart from his career. The fact that he is now able to make this distinction for himself is definitely a positive step toward handling his own business.
Joymus: This is the important statement “The fact that he is now able to make this distinction for himself is definitely a positive step toward handling his own business.”
You can love someone as a family member and still know that they aren’t the right person to be on your management team. This speaks of a maturing David. I love it.
Marlie -- So do I:)
We had to go through this travail with Jeff because when we were first introduced to David he was still a minor. As he said his dad taught him to stand up for himself. I guess the lessons learned especially from last year’s experiences were quite difficult to swallow but worked out better than expected.
“This information begs the age-old question – was he forced out or did he quit? We will never truly know the ins and outs of this father/manager/music collaborator/father again relationship.*shakes head*
Unless another bio comes out… sources may be a-plenty
I think as fans we knew that sooner or later Jeff would cease to be his manager or the likelihood of that outcome was there. I am definitely pleasantly surprised that David got to this point so soon, or at least I did not really anticipate it happening it quite so soon. How it happened we can only speculate unless he talks about it in the book. Correctly or wrongly, I expect to see more than what we already know, even if it’s just a little bit more, not just the faith aspect of his life. Again just guessing.
I saw somewhere not too long ago that his Jive manager (forget his name; no time to go digging right now) is no longer following him on Twitter, which would make one think he may no longer be his manager either. Anyone know anything? I thought I read this at Soul David.
I meant Azoff (spelling) manager, not Jive.
On Michael Lynche’s AI Q&A page:
Q -- Of the past 8 seasons, who’s been your favorite Idol contestant thus far?
A -- Ruben Studdard and David Archuleta
Did you see Casey fangirling over David?
A new blog from David 4/8/10 -
Helloooo everyone. I wanted to check in really quick and let you know about my time yesterday back at the American Idol studios. I had such a great time!!
I have to admit being on that stage again shook me and my nerves up pretty good. I wasn’t sure what was going on with my mind. Just seeing the audience, the contestants, and then the judges was so weird lol. But I saw Ellen smiling right before I started and it made me feel better haha. But I haven’t really performed Imagine very much in the last couple of years since I had sung it twice on Idol, and now it’s 3 times. But it was such a privilege to get to sing it again, because I think it’s a song with a message that’s important for people to hear again right now. It also reminded me of how much that song meant to me, and to again show people what I love about what music can do for others. …

ps: HAPPY BDAY LUPE!
hello … I just wanted to comment for the first time and let you all know how much I appreciate reading everyone’s intellectual comments. It’s so refreshing, really.
I hope no one minds me chiming in on this subject too.
I do agree and respect and understand people’s feeling about Jeff … afterall, I suppose it hasn’t been an easy journey for David having to deal with some of the issues much less having to address them in public. But David always says that there are reasons that things happen and we can’t fully appreciate the great pleasures in life if we don’t go thourhg the struggles too.
So, I do want to acknowledge how much Jeff HAS done and will continue to do for David. Jeff encouraged David in his singing from the start. He nurtured David’s growth and talent. David may not have continued on in talent shows and studying with Dean were it not for the guidance of his dad (and mom). I remember David in an interview saying that he learned from his dad and practiced how to sing over and over the same song in different ways so it would be fresh each time (did I IMAGINE that inteview? lol). I’m sure there are so many other things that we will never know about that Jeff should get credit for, but instead he will always get the bad rap … which does make me sad … like someone above also mentioned.
But I also agree … in general, I think it is hard to mix family with business. So this is a step in the right direction for David. But I am thankful that I’m sure his dad (and mom) will continue to be a big influence in his career … as someone also mentioned above.
Anyway, sorry this is so long … and thanks for letting me chime in and getting that off my chest … I’ve wanted to do that for a while now anywhere out in Davidland, but this seemed like the right time and place! Carry on!
btw … David was just STELLAR last night, wasn’t he?!
so looking forward to tomorrow night!
More post-Idol guesting interviews:
FROM J-14
Following his performance on American Idol this week, David Archuleta chatted exclusively with J-14 about his new hairdo, Aaron Kelly, and who he thinks will win this season.
J-14: What was it like being back on the Idol stage?
David: It really freaked me out! My mind left when I was talking to Ryan. I thought through what I was going to say, but then my mind totally went blank. It was pretty bad. And It was scary having the judges there — you feel like you’re going to be judged too. But I was so glad to get to sing “Imagine” again. I haven’t sung that song that much. I think I’ve performed it once out of all the tours I’ve ever done, and that’s it…

IDOLSNOW INTERVIEW --
David’s quick shout-out for the IdolsNow app
httpv://www.youtube.com/user/bizmosiscom#p/a/u/0/X9YHWWlKqNg
The above vid is just the intro. A full-length 18.23-minute-interview has been posted on iTunes via the IdolsNow app. Viewing is exclusive on iPhones/iTouch units.
Well, I may have the unit, but am in the wrong part of the globe
I too would like to chime in just to say: this has been a long time coming! Who knows what David’s management team looks like now, but I have been guessing that, slowly but surely, David has been distancing himself from Jeff and even from Team Utah.
And, nope, don’t feel bad for #manincap. Not at all!
I hope this means only good things coming David’s way! Woohoo! (that’s the general feeling over @Soul David, I believe).
Next issue: when will David
1. get a new label? (not a fan of Jive, sorry)
2. get the right kind of music producer?
3. get the right kind of promo?
Perhaps soon and very soon?
Great news in Archuworld!
It’s great to see you, MomWithODD. I just visited Rickey’s a couple of days ago for the first time in well over a year. Josie popped up here yesterday, too.
David undoubtedly agonized over this course of action, and also undoubtedly had no choice. When he was able to see the necessity of loss he gained much, in both maturity and opportunity.
I well understand the inclination to be sympathetic, but it’s hard for me to conjure tears for self interest. I’m not putting it down, it just doesn’t always work for other people. In what can only be described as grand Archuleta fashion, David let the truth of the world slip from his lips in an interview as though it were old news of little consequence. (I believe I might be starting to question this assumed ineptitude with public communication — inept like a fox, more like.)
No, I prefer to cheer for David (isn’t that what this fan base wants all day every day, anyway?). Hooray, woohoo, mazel tov, and about time, too.
MOMwithODD -- thanks for your heartfelt post. Yeah it is never fun to get the bad rap -- undeserved or not. But I think that as a father, he knew that it was part of the deal when he & David, the family decided to make a go of AI.
As a parent myself, I think what will matter more to Jeff is how his remarkable son regards and will regard him.
My respect and admiration for David as a person, as an artist and as a brand is further raised with his totally zero-hoopla and swift handling of anything-Jeff. He is getting great advice here.
Anything-Dad, do we expect anything less than love, gratitude and honor from David?
I will say it again: after the drought, get ready for the deluge.
Tears.
CHILLS.
What-just-happened?
GAH.
Pride
LOL.
Shaking-my-head —--> am stuck in this phase! what about you guys?
I’m relieved that JA is out of the management picture. The family relationship is none of my business but what I get from that interview is that David has a great perspective about it all, he knows what he wants to do and he sounds happy.
David said in one his recent interviews that the new hair style in part signifies a new phase in his life and career. I am so ready for it and so ready to move on from all the negative stuff of the past couple of years. Let’s go already!

LA Times IDOL Tracker Interview
David Archuleta talks about his ‘Idol’ return, offers sympathy to Aaron ‘Little Archie’ Kelly
As mentioned earlier in our minute-by-minute results show recap, we ran into David Archuleta on our way out of the “Idol”-dome, where he was ever the dimpled charmer, taking pictures with fans and embracing each and every “Idol” crew member within hugging distance.
David’s thoughts on season 9′s Lennon-McCartney showdown? “They did great,” he said. “Everyone did really well [Tuesday] night. It was nice that they had that boost, and I think their effort really showed it, where you could see their emotion and passion… It also showed the magic of the Beatles’ songwriting. Nobody will ever do it like they did…”

thanks for the welcome Rascal and jackryan4da! Rascal, I’m touched you remember me from Rickey’s
I haven’t “seen” Josie in awhile but it’s always a nice feeling to run into familiar “faces” around Davidland and know we’re all still running around for anything David for 2 years already! lol
agreed! … David is truly remarkable indeed and there’s so much to look forward to … such a bright future ahead for David and all his fans!!
thanks again and see ya all around!
It’s great to see David stepping out on his own. He’s way too smart and sensitive and talented to have a parent running his life.
This can only be a win-win for all concerned.

Tee-hee, after Imagine3.0, ArchuLand is in slumber. I better stop my spamming
A couple of eyebrow raisers in the L.A. Times Article (linked by jackryan4da in #33):
“…where he was ever the dimpled charmer, taking pictures with fans and embracing each and every Idol crew member within hugging distance.”
Wait, wasn’t he always the reluctant hugger?
“…As for his personal standout, Archie’s getting behind 17-year-old Katie Stevens.”
David picking a favorite?!
Oh, the times they are-a-changin.’
“…where he was ever the dimpled charmer, taking pictures with fans and embracing each and every Idol crew member within hugging distance.”
Wait, wasn’t he always the reluctant hugger?
I was about to say the same thing, Rascal.
If you haven’t had the chance to listen to the Idolsnow/Fred Bronson interview linked by JR above, you should. It’s really, really good. David talks at length about being back at Idol, the book and the next CD. I actually downloaded that APP…99 cents is well worth seeing David clearly. The hairstyle is growing on me.
At the end of the interview, Fred asks David what is different about David now versus two years ago. I love his answers. The whole interview shows how much he has grown, but his last few comments really hammers it home.
Here’s an interesting tidbit:
Shontelle might hook up with David Archuleta in a song one day. In an exclusive interview with AceShowbiz, the R&B singer admitted that she has a very good relationship with the runner-up of “American Idol” season 7.
The 24-year-old singer said, “David and I are good friends.” She elaborated, “We have a lot of the same fans and they’ve been lobbying on Twitter for a SHONLETA duet as they call it. I guess everyone will have to wait and see.”

Rascal/HG — and actually naming a winner (Crystal or Siohban). Totally loving this new phase he is in.

These have been some tryin’ times recently for me, and “seeing” sooooo many we haven’t heard from in…like… FOREVER, has simply put a smile to my face!
Of course, all the positive events in Archu-land are keeing me smilin’ too! (David is…GORGEOUS!!! LOVE this grown-up, manly lookin’, bod-blazin’, all the way down to the no-socks look he’s sportin’!)LOL
INCOMING.
Rant, that is.
I hate hate hate living in Finland. HATE IT. It´s now 9pm here, and it´s morning for David and it makes me feel like the distance between us is light-years, which leads to me crying over the fact that I´ll probably never see David live. All this buzz about the Imagine performance, his appearance on Good things Utah and his gig tonight at the game is just too much. At first I was as happy and thrilled as everyone else but now… now I´m just upset that I´ll always have to see David through Youtube.
While I´m swimming in my self-pity, I could use some words of encouragement. Or a slap in the face -- whatever´s your thing.
Embe- One thing with following David, you just never know while one minute you are feeling like you will never see him and then the next the opportunity becomes available out of the blue. Keep the faith, put it out there in a positive way and you just never know. This ride is full of miracles. Just sayin’ OK?
On Good Things Utah this morning:

LOL And we love it!
Anyone else want to bawl with me? I was just listening to Eva Cassidy today and this song came up and for some reason it affected me so deeply -- I’m now a wreck. It is suddenly a wish of mine for David to record this song one day:
Promised too soon. Not finished spamming yet.
Opening segment, where David sits listening to a discussion of an apparently unsuccessful vasectomy.
Marlie: Thanks!
ronald, Eva Cassidy does a great job on “Danny Boy” -- as she does on everything! And I’d love to hear David sing it, too.
I hadn’t thought about it in years, but your post somehow reminded me that I used to absolutely love Jackie Wilson’s version.
ram: Thanks, you made me feel better
I think my hormones are causing me mood-swings and perhaps I´m just concentrating on the negative. Oh, David wouldn´t like that
Maybe I could get David to come to Finland by tweeting him that Santa Claus saw the cover of Christmas from the heart and now wants him to be one of his elves!
And now onto Good Things Utah. Loved David, his face was priceless when they talked about vasectomy. I´m surprised he didn´t get enormously embarrassed or awkward -- I mean, the subjects varied from child labour and Kate Gosselin to vasectomy and charging money for peeing on an aeroplane!
And David even commented on the lavatory thing
I think he said “What if you don´t have any money?” and when the ladies said “Then you have to hold it”, David asked “What if you can’t?!”
I never thought this day would come. We’re talking about the guy who doesn’t say the word “poo” and refuses to talk about bowel movements (which is very okay, by the way -- even I don´t love David enough to listen to that).
Oh, and the women hosting GTU… I know it´s their show and all, but would it kill them to let David FINISH A DAMN SENTENCE?!?!
Soccer Practice. Credit to shel983.
ronaldsf, you are becoming quite the Eva Cassidy fanatic. Join the club, I will bawl right along with you!!! David’s rendition of Eva’s version of “Imagine” is what drew me to him. When he covered “Fields of Gold”, I was thrilled. I see him as a male version of Eva. This is one of my favorite Eva songs -- “I Know You By Heart”:
Anyone know anything about who is managing David now? An LDS management person?
HopeUDance2: I’ve never heard that song before. Such a clear, sweet voice singing such a tender song. Thanks for the video!
#60, I believe we will be able to figure it out really soon. My guess is that the new manager will be with D in NYC next week for the meeting w/Jive. Good night and buh-bye everyone.

I’ve been out of the country for a few weeks… just home to this OMG! terrific “news”. Sounds like said news occurred some time ago, but hey!, I’m not complaining. It’s all good. Well, all except the haircut, but that’s fine too, with a performance like this new AI9 Imagine, he could wear a manga wig, I don’t care. And speaking of that performance (which I can’t stop watching, there’s so much more than your average payload of nuance!)… I’m especially tickled by the inclusion of the “hell” verse. Ha! Not just included, but he led with it, second line in lyric… and then that micro-expression… a smirk!!! I’m so lovin’ it! Not that I give a rip if he says hell or he doesn’t, it’s that element of surprise that he consistently delivers with such finesse… it was a sort of throwing down the gauntlet, a statement that he’s his own person and haha to anyone who ever thought otherwise. Very very very very artful delivery.
Big grins, and hugs all around… and now I’m running off to mix a “Love Nugget” (lol rascal).
Hi folks, I’m rushing to get ready for a Big Day, and so I haven’t had a chance to see the whole new crop of videos or hear the radio interview yet. Just want to mention that the preview screencap of David singing Happy Birthday above has this kid with his hands clasped together in wonderment. The Power of the Archuleta lol.
