After watching the vid -- I wanna hug him, I wanna hug him!
Is it just me?
This video is so David. It captures that magic first spark of young love. The video illuminates the two moods of the song: the depths of isolation (love the nerdy guy that finally gets the girl!) and the ecstatic highs of connection.
I was hoping for something like this: That David would be like the overseeing narrator, which shots of him singing the song to drive the story around him.
First off, let me just say that I’m THRILLED to see a new David video, and David is looking mighty fine (especially in the club scenes)
At the same time, I feel a disconnect from the song. When I hear SBL, it feels more upbeat and celebratory than David comes off here. I was hoping for some more joy and smiles toward the camera. And during the wonderful last chorus, there’s a glimpse of David sitting down? Strange choice!
David shows a restraint here, and I don’t know if it was the director’s choice, David’s, or both. Perhaps David has a way to go before he can fully express himself the way he does in his music. Anywayz, music videos have only a limited importance these days, so we’ll see.
I found it a shade gloomy, sort of disconnected. I keep remembering what Simon said and he’s only 19. I never think of him this way, message or not. Guess I wanted to see him relate more. Time to watch it some more times. Of course I’m thrilled to see him do any videos but I’m not sure the video reflected the joy I feel when I hear the song.
Ronald, River -- I think the young people dancing and celebrating were the contrast to David’s “educational” story. The lyrics are an unusual companion to the melody to begin with, but when I actually see David sing them, they really sink in. David has said many times, that he has learned to listen to the words and the message behind the melody, and has found some interesting songs as a result (see his “song for the day” after his blogs).
Something about David’s interpretation made me cry (not that it takes much right now) – maybe the sincerety, the feeling that he truly meant every word he sang, and expressed such emotion on his beautiful face… I can’t really put my thoughts into words, David just broke my heart and healed it at the same time.
Maybe I won’t give up just yet <3
Thanks Embe. I’ll watch it again (& again) with a different perspective. He certainly made it clear that he’s bringing a message. Nice to see brother Daniel in the basketball scene. So many details.
I don’t see the gloom here. I think this is a perfect portrayal of young love -- it’s mostly wishing and hoping and angst with a few moments of connection and joy thrown in. This song is basically one of comfort -- hold on, it’s gonna be alright.
Also, note the three times that a real human connection was made in the song:
1. interracial basketball game, a “big brother” moment.
2. intergenerational helping with spilled possessions, a “giving of yourself” moment.
3. nerdy guy + cute girl, that spark of young love.
These are all types of “love.” David’s interpretation goes beyond the boy/girl love. All three of the above kinds of love can “set you free.”
I’m pretty sure I got all the connections, I’m just speaking from a photographic sense that I felt David was portrayed more passive than I’ve usually seen him. The content of the video is clear, guess I’m just not all that happy with the director’s take, although certainly David was involved with the editing. There are some shots I like a lot, like throwing his head back at the beginning of the last chorus. Now that I love. Maybe what I need is a full length movie of David. Works for me.
Because of a busy work day today I am not able to watch it multiple times and in peace as I’d like to, but I already absolutely love it. That’s not to say, had David already been the mega superstar (we think or hope (or not;)) he will be some day), the production value of this video would have been much higher and the final product likely more polished(?). So given the situation today, I think this video is great.
If David had appeared happier and more smiley thereby expressing the more upbeat part of the song, I am afraid it could have come across as a bit trite and cheesy and too expected IMO. So I am really happy he is more subdued and is the quiet narrator of the stories that the lyrics underline.
I am tickled to death it includes glimpses into connections that are other than the young love kind because we know David had already said love relationships can be between parents, friends, siblings and what have you besides the obvious and expected ones. His message is universal.
I love it that at the very end, he is cracking a big smile which makes me smile, always. <333
River-I’m in agreement about this: “Maybe what I need is a full length movie of David.” I was just thinking that so many of my wishes and dreams will come to pass more quickly than I thought they would, ie Spanish album, so why not David the actor tearing me up on the Big Screen.
Oh, to hell with the video quality or anything else….THAT FACE! LOL I need a full-length David movie, too!
This is what I had hoped for. David is the narrator. I love how he walks along, alone- with all the life going on around him. ( the skateboarder, basketball game, the train, the flowers, houses) He is contemplative and pensive- lost in his thoughts. I remember when I have had my heart broken- you hardly see the life around you. But as he walks along- there is love around him. Even when he gets to the party- he is still “not really” engaged. Again- the back drop of love, friends, hearts at the party. But he is sorty of alone….Gosh, I remember the feelings of going through the motions, every day, every night. Then he starts to engage again. There is a bit of life, smiles, hope- But not too much- I mean- after a broken heart- it does take time- right? I adore this video. He is in the midst of a party- but not really part of it. But it is hopeful- And the sparklers and confetti at the end! Makes you feel hopeful…Then he does have the big smile when he turns around at the last shot.
Not overdone- but real. And the different kinds of love- friends, helping others, young love, so sweet- but not icky sweet- just right. Love the contrasts of emotions in the video. And I love somethimg about that heart the girl forms with her hands. Not sure why- but it just seems perfect.
And gahhh- the train. As I said on SD, this song from the beginning felt like jumpoing on a speeding train. That train- to me represents moving forward, not stopping- ( in spite of feeling like you can’t keep going on).
Can you tell I love the video just a tad?
raelovinganels -- am riding that train with you on this one. Although I would have loved him to have more smiling shots, even just the eyes, esp during the chorus, I totally subscribed to your interpretation of the video
raelovingangels: I’m with you on this -- the video portrays that angsty feeling of young love lost, broken hearts, and hope for a better love in the future. David looks fantastic in this -- so much older and more comfortable on screen, and I love his hair. I haven’t been too keen on the longer length -- or at least the style it’s been in the last few months. A stylist got ahold of him and he looks so much more young-urban. Got to go watch it again.
I like the song and like every scene with David. Couldn’t stand the short scene with the nerd. He’s too nerdy, too forlorn. There is a similar problem with the scene with the girl helping the older woman. Too pedantic for me.
The video succeeds in the parts that they don’t try so hard to tell a story, but instead convey a mood.
Hi all. Haven’t posted for awhile but just want to share my thoughts on the video.
I’m ok with the concept but there are scenes that could have done better. One is the bridge when David sang/talked “There’s something ’bout love that breaks your heart whoa oh, oh, oh”, he should have looked straight in the camera the whole time. I feel a disconnect the moment he looked away. Better yet, he could have only uttered the words “There’s something ’bout love that breaks your heart” and not sang the whoa oh part to create a dramatic (lost for words here) effect. The other one the final chorus when it’s supposed to be explosive (as evident by the music production)… why does they keep showing him sitting in that couch and alone in the alley?? That’s kinda anti-climax IMO. He should have socialized already with the group, singing, dancing, jumping with the crowd..
I like the video, not love it. David is still awkward in some parts. Reminds me of ALTNOY.
For me “Crush” is still his best video to date. He was so natural in that video.
DALLAS & LINDA = hey thanks for posting your thoughts. For me, there are moments in the video that I found his eyes “not communicating” -- like they were blank. I dunno if that was a conscious decision or direction because of the pain the narrator is supposed to be feeling — but then there are points in the story where his eyes should have changed but they remained “wanting”.
I also noticed that his demeanor in this video is so different from the vid on the SBL MV. Like in the former, he looked buffed and happy (did I mention drop dead gorgeous?) while in the MV, he looks haggard and forlorn. Which works for me because in the MV, it was a fantasy tale of someone in the process of undergoing some emotional issues. So the ending where he made a connection and started to smile and be happy — makes it consistent with the song’s premise — even when your down, time will soon come to be smiling again. I mean hopeful is one of David’s middle name, right?
But I like the contrast of his look between the two videos. It is clear that in the MV, he was a character vs being David Archuleta in the SBL intro vid.
Does that make sense?
Oh, also -- the awkwardness works for me as well cos anyone who has undergone heartbreak can tell you that you do feel a fish out of water for most of your healing period.
Isn’t this cool?
Interesting article about Irving Azoff, David’s personal manager according to the article. I can’t see Irving and David in the same room, based on this story.
I like the video, don’t love it. I think Crush was a much better glimpse of David, was much better made than this one.
In SBL, David conveyed the angst and melancholy of the song well, but I would have liked to have seen a bit more of the upbeat side of David. After all, it’s the joyful part of love that makes it worth it.
That wasn’t portrayed through David in the video at all. It was seen somewhat in the actors, but it was David’s song, and I didn’t feel any joy or real emotional connection from him beyond angst. I did really like the little vignettes, i.e., the guys playing basketball, helping the old lady. The lonely nerd/romantic one, however, was not believable. Sorry.
The video felt quickly made and thrown together to me.
Essentially, I found David’s portrayal much too one-dimensional. It could have been so much richer with a touch of the buoyant, positive guy that we love. He didn’t even look like himself all that much coz he never really smiled until it was over. It was as if David was playing a role instead of telling a story we know he believes in.
My guess is that the director and producers called the shots, and it went down their way. David will find his voice in these videos eventually, I’m sure. But it didn’t happen in the one we saw today.
I think the “emptyness” in David’s eyes in some scenes was intentional. He’s singing “every night it’s all the same” -- he seems frustrated, tired, bored. His eyes reflect those emotions.
The part where he sings “live and let live” it almost looks like his eyes are glistening with tears -- like he’s really pleading, his heart tired.
In a rush this morning so I’ve only read a few other comments, but I see what folks mean that the lyrics are more serious and this was why David had a more serious, intense look. This may very well be how David performs and connects with the song.
I guess why it might go over the heads of the average viewer is because the director didn’t do that good of a job narrating what was going on outside of the shots of David, in that it’s hard to tell what the struggles and dramas of love that he’s singing about really are. Where are the “shadows” that contrast with the light? And since it’s not clear what’s going on around him, the “narrator” bit gets a little lost, too.
The same director who did “Crush” did this video, and that was a simpler concept -- young people hanging out, developing a crush on somebody. All that was needed was 4 or 5 shots of interaction between the two leads and that was it. This video called for a bit more coherence and I don’t think it came through.
On the upside -- yes, David is looking very pretty. I think credit there goes to the stylist (and David ). David is looking older and schmexier and this video shows him off a little. Never a bad thing!
Thanks Ronaldsf, Marlie and JR for taking the time to explained to me the complexity of Vevo in the last thread.
Just watched the video and since I was late to the party thought I will read the comments first before giving my thoughts. Funny thing is (and I think it has happened to someone before me on other topics)when I read the comments i was thinking’ yeah agreed with that’ then yeah agreed with that too’ and so on and so forth.
What I am trying to say is that everyone has stated what I pretty much thought of the video.
So I will sum it all with I LOVE IT!!!! I LOVE IT !!!! I LOVE IT!!!!
In a day, SBL has gone up from #614 to #410 on iTunes. The release of the MV on iTunes next Tuesday can support the upwad trend, steep as it may be. But what it needs is a major push from the label.
Dear JIVE -- where is your dang promo?
BTW, did I ever mention the epic head toss in the video?
On a more serious note, some fans are not liking the somber David. This reaction is understandable. After all, he is not called Mr. Sunshine for nothing.
But with further consideration, I realize that the “shock factor” of the somber David may be a conscious effort to arrest the viewers’ attention. As die hard fans, we of course can sing SBL in our sleep! So paying attention to his lyrics in the music video is probably not the behavior expected from us.
The average listener , fans and non-fans alike, would groove and romp to SBL’s inviting tune. Of course the quality of the vocals helps a ton in appreciating the track. As one of the early SBL reviewers pointed out (the name escapes me now), “finally a great pop tune with great vocals!” Or something along those lines
However, with new or random viewers, who may have just a mere memory of the giggly AI runner-up, David’s forlorn looks and at some point, teary or vacant eyes would prompt them to pay closer attention. Or at least intrigue them. Like -- “why is Archuleta being dramatic?” “Why is this cutie in angst?” What the heck, am not seeing Archuleta’s teeth for once?! What gives?!”
Then boom! Non-fans listen to the lyrics; Notice the contrast between David and his surroundings. Another ying for David’s yang.
“Am gonna get into the song… Am gonna tell it to the judges. Am gonna make sure they understand it.”
-- David Archuleta
Hollywood Week, 2008
Then and now, David has never faltered from his mission.
ps: I won’t go into the MV’s production value (editing, continuity, etc..). Given the short period this was made, am not gonna be exacting this time around.
ps2: Did anyone notice that David’s watch was on his left wrist when he was in outdoor settings and on his right wrist when indoors?
jackryan4da :”some fans are not liking the somber David.”
LOL, i’m in that group of fans, and is not like i feel like a bad fan because that, but i feel sad that i don’t like the video
I saw the video a couple times yesterday and even today i did the same, now that is available in Vevo Canada and after reading some comments and armed with a new vision of the moments on the video, still don’t love , i don’t hate it, but i don’t feel it either.
I was expecting something more cheerful at least at some point on the video,to match the song production , but that didn’t happened. I guess most of people who have the same problem with the video, is because the song was promote like a happy uptempo summer tune from a young person and the video is kind of dark to me .
I’m not in shock, it is just that i don’t like that lack of energy of joy from him there and the all initial good happy, hopefully vibe from the song is transformed into a dramatic, angsty ,somber vibe ,like i said in MJ’s big Blog, he looks sad and his eyes so empty.
I always expected a powerful/heartful video for the second single that i imagine/wish is a powerful ballad, but not for this song tbh.
That make think two things , first is this emo, somber, heart tired(thanks embe)the ‘new/real me’ he’s talking about? or is this his mature side people is talking about? if yes, then what kind of music he’s gonna put out?
In any case i’m not his target market, and like i already said i’m just a very small part of the comsumer side. And reading some comments from college people(new demographic target ?) looks like they love it, of course they are not the same power buyers like teen and tweens, but still a big market for him.
I still loving the song since the first time though, i like pure pop that make feel good, so i hope the video gonna help the song to be listened and recognized for new fans and gonna help the track to climb the charts , (btw the song gained at leat 120 spots in itunes since yesterday )
Ops, sorry that was long and i don’t even realized how much i was writing, so sorry .
BTW in a positive side, if this somber David is his new me, i can expect finally him gonna sing ‘Desperate’ and ‘Save the day’ and ‘Let me go’ in concert? !!!! i really love that songs
tibitibis, you are not a “bad fan” for not loving the video. It’s a challenge for the mind to comprehend, that while the lyrics are quite depressing, though hopefull, the melody is that of a happy dance track. It’s kinda like this “test” I found online years ago; there was a list of all colours, but the name of the colour was written in different colour letters. For example, the word “blue” was written in red letters. Then you had to say outloud the colour the word was written in -- not the actual word “blue”. I tried it and it proved to be really hard to say the colour and not the word lol.
Okay, that was looong! My point is, that it can be tricky to try and concentrate on the angst and the pain of the lyrics when there’s a poppy beat thudding in the background. But if the lyrics were published before we ever heard the song, we probably would’ve thought the single was going to be a gut wrenching ballad. This time, most of us were smitten with the melody first, and afterwards started to analyze the words.
Tibi, as long as you are true to yourself and honest in your opinions, David will appreciate your fandom
Great points everyone. I think as with SBL- the video was not what we expected. Instead of a hot pop single as the first release, I was expecting a mid-tempo R & B type thing. So, I just loved the surprise with this. We expected to see the same old happy David. The vacant eyes are still mezmurizing. You keep looking for the life to come back. Toward the end- it starts to. I gotta say- what ever David was channeling with these lyrics and performance- it was rough. The look in his eyes reminds me of how I felt about a year ago when a close friend died. I was so empty inside. I know it showed in my eyes. I was just rote- vacant, going through the motions of life. It was almost a year- before starting to feel again. It is kinda hard to look in someones eyes. It is scary- and dark. But I know almost everyone has been there.
I love it. I love it because HE is central -- all of the color, action, light and movement swirl around him from the very first moment. He’s an observer, he’s pensive, he’s emotional. This isn’t a song about puppy love or chemistry or romance. It’s a song about the very nature of human love. The contrast between the pace and brightness of the melody with the depth and angst of the lyric seems exactly right to me. It would have been weird and distracting if David were a complete bundle of sunshine here. This is LOVE he’s singing about -- and there’s nothing simple about that.
Kudos to the director for giving us so much of David’s transparent, beautiful, pure face. There’s love in every expression he makes.
I am seriously loving this song more and more. Loving these lyrics the more I listen. David is a lot deeper than many people credit him for. I believe he has thought much about love and the pain that goes with it. The fact that David is not all smiles in this video doesn’t bother me in the least. Life is not smooth sailing all the time so why should we think David believes that. I get this feeling that David is going to break a lot of misconceptions fans have built around him before this ride is all over.
David is a real honest to goodness human just like the rest of us. He just seems to have figured out what really matters early on in his life. I am so excited for him to share more about himself and what he thinks. David, for all that he shares with us, is a private person and I respect him very much for whatever he is willing to share.
Oh, wella talked too long.
jackryan4da- ditto on that head toss. gah-liscious, I say.
smanda, nicely put:
It’s a song about the very nature of human love.
I also love that he is the narrator and all the life swirls around him. I found the video quite mesmerizing right from the first viewing.
David Archuleta Releases ‘Something ‘Bout Love’ Video
David Archuleta has released the video to “Something ‘Bout Love,” the first single off his upcoming third album “The Other Side of Down.” The clip finds the ‘Idol’ runner-up walking around a city before stumbling upon a gorgeously lit apartment party.
“Hang on, hang in, for the ride of your life,” Archuleta croons with clenched fists. The slow-motion shots nicely capture the romantic vibe of the track, and Archuleta makes for a compelling pop presence.
“The Other Side of Down” is set to hit stores Oct. 5 on Jive Records.

Billboard seems to be loving David more and more Please leave some nice comments.
Aw Embe, ”Tibi, as long as you are true to yourself and honest in your opinions, David will appreciate your fandom”
Thanks for the feedback, you right maybe the lyrics deserve a different sound, i know i’m in the minority but what i can say…..just add that i far to have misconceptions about David, i always knew that behind his eternal apparent hapiness , it exist a person that can be sad sometimes, is just that the all combination of uptempo first single, summer, hearful lyrics and kind of dark video don’t worked for me this time.i think they could do better with the video and make of the song a kind of hymn of Love.
But in another hand i’m glad that my perception about him be emo, somber, mature, eyes empty on the video is not only mine.
Anyway and one more time i really fell in love with the song since the first time and i still love it, hopefully Jive gonna start the promotion soon and gonna use in a good way the video to help to sell the track .
BTW , i like this review : (credit to Archie XM)
‘,I should have known this was going to happen. David Archuleta’s new single, “Something ‘Bout Love” is growing on me. Leave it to a music video to take a song that I previously wasn’t feeling and turn it around nearly completely. I still maintain that “Something ‘Bout Love” is pretty safe territory for the young singer but the song is definitely sweet. The song is accompanied by an equally sweet music video, which premiered yesterday on VEVO and features a sad-looking Archuleta and a cast of attractive young people. The video is your average happy, feel good music video, featuring the teenagers doing a variety of good deeds for other people, under the influence of…let me guess…love? The song is the first single off of Archuleta’s second album, The Other Side of Down, due out October 5th on Jive Records. “Something ‘Bout Love” was written by Archuleta, Chris DeStefano, Dave “Sluggo” Katz and Sam Hollander. It’s available to download now on iTunes.”

TIBI -- I hope my comment didn’t make you feel that you are a “bad” fan. In the 1st place I am very much against labeling fans cos to me it simply smacks of judgment and am glad that TDC veers away from such topics.
Preferring not to see David sad is a very Archie inclination. And I always enjoy your honest comments.
Oh, and did I mention I still wanna hug him in that video?
jackryan4da , don’t worry, i just took the opportunity to express my honest opinion about the video, is kind of refreshing to say what you really think and don’t try to simulate something different because the group pression lol , so thanks to TDC for that freedom.
”Oh, and did I mention I still wanna hug him in that video?”
Specially on this video and for first time i wanna hug him ha, ha

I’m away for the weekend, but had to pop in and weigh in.
I know many people see David as always sunshine, but I think he’s had his share of heartache and disappointment in his life, as every human being does (even if we all think he is an angel )
David said the album would reflect more of “him”, and perhaps he wants us to see that he also has his moments of angst, disappointment, and melancholy, but as with his book, Chords of Strength, David says push on, persevere, and know that in the end its worth it, there is reward.
This really sounds to me more like David. He’s never avoided a song that makes us feel, good or bad. Just take a look back at the songs he chose for AI.
Okay, off to enjoy my family for the weekend, but I’ll pop in again later.
First impression -- - -- luv the shirt scenes, not so luv the jacket scenes
Second impression -- - -- where are all the people, here and everywhere, where archangels, where orly, where fanblast, -- perplexed and disappointed in what a difference 2 years makes. and the biggie -- where’s Rascal
Rena, All the people have been waiting patiently for some new music from David. Its been two years (not counting Christmas music). I have been surviving on odd songs captured on vid and downloaded by fans, Parachutes n Airplanes (awesome), If I could Only Be, Hey Soul Sister…. And all of my old playlist from AI, the tours, etc. And what do we get? A song with David on Autotune. I love David and his voice. But I can’t make myself love this song. It’s discouraging.
even though I bought it twice to support Davids sales numbers. and will get it again when I buy the album.
hi there everyone… an f.y.i. for you all that we think is pretty beneficial… thanks

rena : ”perplexed and disappointed in what a difference 2 years makes,,
Well, you well said 2 years without too much presence on the powerful media has their consequences, he need to show his face everywhere again to rebuild his fanbase ( the one who don’t buy his Christmas album and book), is possible, but he really need to be where the action is, this is not the time to be shy and disconected of twitter, FB , MS ,sadly for him people need some visual motivation, is like that that this business work , if he want to be able to do a tour next year.
BTW time to share the video on Twitter, FB, MS , YTB channels and leave the link on his ytb videos and why not on the videos of Justin , Demi , Miley, Jonas Bro and Jesse M , if someones want to help
marlie7 ”I know many people see David as always sunshine, but I think he’s had his share of heartache and disappointment in his life, as every human being does (even if we all think he is an angel”
Oh not, i don’t think that is the problem with people who are not crazy with the video,i never put David in an angel status and more people who don’t love the video are not hard core fans either and of course he can share his life disappointed with his music , actually is kind of refreshing to know he’s a normal human being , but one more time and just to be clear; I care less if this emo , somber , melancholic person is showed in an slowbeat or midtempo song or ballad, but people have a hard time to making match the happy upbeat track jive presented like a summer happy song with the somber person the video is showing, that all. Usually the first singles on the pop music are alwyas uptempo fun/happy songs.
BTW the song is up in the pop itunes chart to 104 (345 overall) in US and 112 in Canada
93 73 DAVID ARCHULETA Something ‘Bout Love 134 62 72 0.487
Watched it some more and realize why I don’t luv the jacket scenes as much as the shirt scenes -- his eyes look exhausted in the jacket scenes -- must have been shot towards the end of shooting day while the shirt scenes were probably earlier in the day. Lots of hard work and no visine.
Brings to mind the ALTNOY video where he kept his head tilted to conceal his red left eye.
If this was to be a “summer happy song” then I think it should have been released long ago. It’s back to school time thinking for many of us now.
YTvevo views on SBL is now over 450K, about 17 hours after tweeting, texting & posting the alert availability to international fans in almost all fansites I could think of -- woo-hoo!
That’s about 445 views per minute!
Way to go Archies. Now if those numbers can only translate to sales…

According to rince @ IDF, David is “even beating Kanye in some stats. that’s pretty much amazing.”
Now consider this:
This video is most popular with:
Hmm… mixed feelings on the video. At first I was one of them that wanted a happy, playful David; it didn’t help with them saying they were looking for people who could do amazing tricks on skateboards and bikes, so, I was a little bit disappointed with the video. Then, after investigating other views, numerous viewings and dissecting the video to pieces(as many Archies do ), I think I understand what David is trying to say. Though some scenes have left me baffled, like the guy jumping over the fence to catch a train? Also, I felt David was the chorus, like in a Greek play so was apart of the various scenes. Until the end when everyone was applauding him, I don’t know if they should have done that because all of a sudden he is part of the party, which would have made him ignored when he is sitting on the couch. (I don’t like David being ignored). Lol, Don’t know if I’m making any sense at all, but that’s my current feelings on the video. Ask me again after I see it 1,001 more times.
Though I am happy to see it so well received. And, I’m looking forward to voting on it on VH1′s countdown.
(Oh, yeah, still anxiously awaiting the full album.)
rena : ”If this was to be a “summer happy song” then I think it should have been released long ago. It’s back to school time thinking for many of us now.”
Yeah, i know they were late to release the single(sort of, since for many people and singers their summer concerts going until september;)) , but that was the way the media received and announced the song , an ”upbeat techno summer fun track” were the words used to describe the song, not only by the media , but by many fans and casual listeners .
In any case from my consumer point view, i think they put this single out to start the buzz around David, to start to regain fans and buzz, remember that usually the album names is the name of the first single at least in Jive R but David’s album name is ‘The other side of down’ and not ”SBL’,so i imagine that the TOSOD is the single who going to support the album sales and going to receive better promotion ,now if is an slow or mid tempo song? who knows , but i hope for more bright lyrics that this one
Cutter 12 ”Though I am happy to see it so well received. And, I’m looking forward to voting on it on VH1′s countdown.

BTW Up to 589,119 views now , even when some countries still can see it . I really think he can go to the million views by monday and hopefully his appearance on the TCA gonna help too
“…a summer song…”
You know I have always been perplexed about the numerous reactions of fans pigeon-holing this track as a summer song and that Jive was late in releasing it. I mean, it isn’t as if the song falls in the genre in the likes holiday or Christmas songs in which a very specific period is warranted (although trust the Pinoys to start playing holiday songs as early as October LOL.
Summer is over so the song is not relevant anymore??? SBL does not even talk about summer-related scenarios, so I don’t get the sort of “expiration” being attributed to the track.
I have always thought love songs transcend time.
Lastly, the summer attribute came from media & fans. I may be wrong but I don’t remember David ever packaging SBL as a summer track.
The factors that i consider in the timing of SBL are always related to market (competing offerings, etc) and industry conditions (date requirements for award giving bodies, etc…)
JR: Actually, in an interview David said something along the lines of “it’s a fun song for the summer”. But I think you’re right -- I don’t see why the song would be irrelevant when summer’s over, since it’s message is one that applies through out the year. But summer songs tend to be aimed at fickle people, who change their preferance of what should play in their iPods every week, who don’t necessarily care what the lyrics are as long as the music is catchy.
David’s fans are dedicated -- they listen to his christmas album whenever, because they find the meaning in the songs no matter what season it is. David’s fans WANT meaning -- the big market wants summer pop.
I think David compromised here; he relied on the fans to pick up the meaning in the lyrics, but made the melody poppy and upbeat to get it on the radio.
I agree with you EMBE except for one thing, I don’t thnk David compromised. I believe it was a deliberate marketing move to put substance to the poppy upbeat tune. David can do no less.

Comments on the MV, whether good or bad, always crack me up.
There’s something ’bout power grabs in David Archuleta’s new video.
Cutie pie David Archuleta proves that he hasn’t grown out of his adorable good looks just yet (I give him another year – two tops) in the official music video for his new single “Something ‘Bout Love”.
In the video, Archie waltzes around amidst a sea of happy couples (some so happy that they’re even painting love hearts on the wall), crooning about how amazing love is. So amazing that it makes you go “whoa-oh-oh-oh”. However, the true heart of the video lies in Archie’s penchant for power grabs, which he does like clockwork each time the chorus hits.
It’s actually quite fun; give it a try. Clench your fists, wave them around a little and go “whoa-oh-oh-oh!”
See? It’s almost as awesome as power grabbing to Shontelle’s “Impossible”.

jackryan4da : ”You know I have always been perplexed about the numerous reactions of fans pigeon-holing this track as a summer song ”
Well the ‘summer song’ description it was not a fan thing, it was the way Jive, the media and David himself (like embe said) presented the song, of course usually the songs released on the summer are all uptempo/party type of songs, so is normal for the fans to perceived the song in that way too .
either way, even if i read mixed reviews about the video, most of the comments are positive and all the people LOVE the song, so i hope this views gonna be translate in sales
I can’t believe almost a millions of views ,please tweens and olders fans buy the song!!!
I mean ,please teens and olders fans buy the song!!! and college people go see the video and buy the song!!
It will be interesting to see how David performs this live….will it be a jumpy, fun song like Zero Gravity? Or more of a Waiting for Yesterday level of intensity?
Don forget David tonight at 7:00 pacific time at NBC
From AInow : ”Remember when David Archuleta sang “The Star-Spangled Banner” at the NFL 11 Pigskin Pro-Am in Malibu, California? Well, today NBC will air footage from that game starting at 7pm ET. No word yet on whether they will show David’s performance or not. Photos HERE. (via AFS)”
And the TCA Red Carpet a 6:30 pacific time here Live stream : http://www.ustream.tv/teenchoiceawards/v3
Me too i’m very curious about a live performance, hopefully soon, to see the level of energy he’s gonna put in it.
I’ll give kudos to David for his acting chops…. the sadness and apathy he exhibits in this vid does not seem like natural Davidness, so it must have been acted. lol Of course, I’m sure he has--at times--felt that way (who hasn’t?!), but since I’m not familiar with mopey David, it seems like it’s coming from left field. It’s such an upbeat song. The recipe is skewed… seems like it should have had a pinch of broken-hearted and a dallop of yeaa! full-of-life again. Watching the vid is a bit of a downer, but the song is a real upper. Kinda disjointed. Good to show another side of him, though. Can’t complain about that, if that’s what it takes for newbies to grasp his depth. Mixed feelings about this one.
PS -- clarification: LOVE the song… am only iffy on the vid. Have watched it just once tho’, so previous comment is just first impression.
Don forget David tonight at 7:00 Eastern time at NBC signing the The ”Star-Spangled Banner” at the NFL 11 Pigskin Pro-Am in Malibu, California ,
And the TCA Red Carpet a 6:30 -- 8:00 eastern time here Live stream : http://www.ustream.tv/teenchoiceawards/v3 ….that means in 20 minutes
Another afterthought (shouldn’t post so quickly, but time is limited…): I have no problem with David expressing darkness, he does it very well, whether drawing from real life experience or just plain acting. I’m just not happy with so much darkness in this vid, since the song message didn’t strike me as dark at all. No, I don’t expect perky David all the time… just want dark David with the dark material.
Oh, boooooooo. They didn’t televise the National Anthem.
marlie7, I second that. Boooooooo!
What, what, what is David up to with his clothes -- he is uber cool these days. Gah!

this one -- love his smile!
I’m sad that they didn’t televise the national anthem. Don’t they know how many people tune in just for that?!
I’m happy David was able to pull off another win at the TCAs!
But, what’s he going to do with so many surfboards? lol.

Oh JR, you oughta pay for my sleeping pills! I need them nowadays -- David is cruel. It should be illegal to look like that.
By the way, the Bieber fans are indeed throwing hissy fits because of David’s comment. Just goes to show David is right
Too funny about the Bieber fans. What are they saying? What are they mad about -- because David said Bieber’s fans were crazy or something like that? Anyone have the exact quote?
OMG, I could so make the Bieber’s fans mad -- he really sings terribly. I hadn’t heard him much -- but singing live -- um, nope, sorry. No soul, no voice, off key.
MARLIE -- start listening to David’s interview at the TCA Blue Carpet from the video I posted above @ mark 1:00
I dunno why they are being defensive since they were willing to fight for the Fanatic Fans Awards LOL
What I don’t agree with are archies initiating the bad comments on other artists on public forums, comparing David with specific artists. That won’t help David.
That wasn’t anything! I think he just meant that his fans are of a different nature, not that Bieber’s fans are not respectful. Sheesh!
Well, I do hope this doesn’t become some kind of fan war. So not into it. We have enough drama WITHIN the fan base LOL.
SBL Video update — iTunes: #17 overall; #08 Pop
Hope this bodes well for the single.
Meanwhile, I have 2 more interviews of David on TCA’s Blue Carpet and 2 more from the awards show

SBL MV standing as of 6pm my time: #11 overall, #5 on pop…
SBL, the single has entered the Top100 of Pop. It is now at #98 — that’s from 200++ Overall, from 500++ it is now at #319.
So yeah, the MV is bolstering the single as expected. I guess his TCA appearance helped a lot too.
WEll, looking like that sure helps a lot LOL
SBL MV standing at iTunes as of 9:40 a.m. CDT: #5 overall
Oh, this is a funny spoof:
My favorite line: Nineteen-year-old David Archuleta
and 17-year-old Demi Lovato will soon be going on a 59-city tour of Mexico entitled The Demi Lovato and David Archuleta Wholesome South-of-The-Border Train of Music Concert Tour Featuring A Trio of Vuvuzela Players.
David and John Cena:
Now that the SBL MV is up on iTunes, I wonder why this was posted by Whitebloom
Director’s HD version of SBL
I have not seen the full video but I hope that this version is in no way better than the one on sale cos anyone can easily download this one
I clipped all of David’s scenes from TCA 2010 (HDTV format) from opening, intro & actual presentation PLUS extra takes showing him singing “Am So Excited”. He really cannot help himself!
For those out who have been out the Archuloop this weekend, here is a TCA 2010 playlist -- nine vids from Pre-Show to Backstage Pressroom
1,910,391 views now!
JR -- you are the best!!! Thanks for all that you do for TDC!!!
LIZ -- If David keeps at it -- I mean his getting hawter and hawter -- sheesh -- can I just retire and sink in the ArchUniverse?
might fiiiiiiiiiiiiiiine in sliiiiiiiiiiiinky jeans
EMBE -- how are your nights coming along? tee-hee
FINALLY, Z100 adds SBL MV to its On Demand playlist!
Please stream peeps -- this is a critical station
JR-Thanks for the link to the Director’s HD SBL. I cried all over again. The look in his eyes is so clearly visible, in one place in particular it looked like his eyes were watery and I just couldn’t hold it back.
The way he looks away, slowly closes his eyes and fixes them on the camera again, well they are killer looks and would melt the coldest of hearts. His vulnerability coupled with those good looks make me think “the James Dean of the Twenty First Century”. I found James Dean’s poster that one of my kids had left behind and I thought David could easily take to the big screen and break some hearts. Yeah, and he can sing, too. lol
ELEVATOR -- the 2nd single? You can read the full press release here:
Upcoming Arthouse single releases include Carrie Underwood’s “Mama’s Song,” Mike Posner’s “Bow Chicka Wow Wow” and David Archuleta’s “Elevator.”
The song is set to be delivered on August 30th.
Oh I hope JIVE is finally getting it -- release more singles from the album and release them in relative quick succession! I think it was a lost opportunity not to release or promote other tracks from the debut album cos there were a lot of good songs in there, esp the ones David had a hand on.
I truly hope they are doing it for this strategy for his sophomore offering.
RAM -- I feel you. Those hawt peepers can be haunting, vulnerable and pleading — all at the same time.
That’s why I have said from the time the video came out I wanna hug him. And I still do.
The thing is, put David in front of me and I will just freeze and clam up.
The things he do to us poor souls, tee-hee

DEN BROTHER is a Disney movie and it is up in YT in 9 parts:
So, if “Elevator” is an upcoming single, it will be another David-cowritten creation! Hmm… And it would be with Mike Krompass, cowriter of Zero Gravity, SOT, and ALTNOY! I think I’m liking this already
Hopefully SBL will find success. I was scanning the Youtube comments and it still sounds like they’re mostly coming from longtime fans. In my opinion, the more arguments and negative comments I see there the better, because it will mean he’s getting more exposure lol.
JR, can I just say, that in the video you posted up (in the comment that begins “SBL Video update — iTunes: #17 overall; #08 Pop”), that the combination of David sweating and wearing a V-neck is very… alluring? Mm-hmm, yes it is.
Just wanted to report another fan reaction: my friend Mari (whom some of you may remember accompanied me to the Rockford concert last August 2009) ABSOLUTELY LOVES the video. David strikes her as more mature and older in the video.
I think that will come through for many people, fans and non-fans alike, who see SBL. That kind of thing’s a little hard for us to notice since we’ve been following him so closely these last couple of years.
RONALD — white tee, v-neckline… I really, reeeally like his TCA get-up. And even non-fans are being affected by his more mature look, judging these reactions to the SBL video:
“I may creep myself out saying this but he looks kinda hot here. Seriously kinda sexy. Nobody will say it so I will. Are you guys chastity types or something, lol? Hey, I’m not even a huge fan, and I see it. What happened? He looks hipper and actually cool. Woah. Great video for getting that accomplished even if the rest is a little nonsensical. I wonder how the girls will react and his gay fanbase? Positively I think.”
And the reply cracked me up:
“I agree, the vid makes me wanna do him. They got rid of most of the “awkward innocent shy boy” look from his previous efforts. “

‘MONKEE HOLLOW’ FIRST LOCAL ACT TO PERFORM AT TWEEN BRANDS CONCERT AT THE CLASSIC: BAND SET TO OPEN FOR HEADLINER DAVID ARCHULETA
MARLIE -- The Albany Classic is getting good media coverage and am tickled pink reading something like this from the organizers
Fans can ‘follow the Hollow’ to this year’s Classic
* Teenage rockers Monkee Hollow will open for ‘American Idol’ star David Archuleta at this year’s New Albany Classic.
… Monkee Hollow could be destined for stardom, but high-profile performers such as Archuleta already have begun to draw all-new audiences to the Classic each year, Koon said.
“It certainly brings a lot of extra interest to the event,” he said. “We have people from all over the country who are excited that David (Archuleta) is going to be here.”
