Dinner Show @ The Grove of Anaheim – 29Dec
David Archuleta Solo Concert @ TheGrove
American pop singer-songwriter, David Archuleta, will be returning to the Grove of Anaheim on Wednesday, December 29.
David Archuleta won the hearts of America after his second place finish on the seventh season of American Idol. As one of the youngest contestants to appear on the show, he enjoyed instant fame and success. In August of 2008, David Archuleta released his first single “Crush”. His self-titled debut album reached number two on the Billboard 200 chart. His recently released second album, The Other Side of Down, features hits such as, “Elevator” and “Falling Stars.”
His angelic voice and inspiring song lyrics make David Archuleta one of the most popular pop singers of his time. Along with being a profound role model in today’s society, he also released “Christmas from the Heart” which debuted at number two on the seasonal chart behind Bob Dylan.
With inspiration from his Latin-influenced childhood along with his appreciation for gospel, pop, rock and soul, David Archuleta is a dynamic artist who appeals to a wide variety of audiences.”

2010 in Review: The year’s best Idol albums
by Mark Franklin on Dec 29, 2010 in 2010 in Review, Featured Articles
This wasn’t the kindest of years to American Idol in terms of CD sales.
The three albums that hung around on the Billboard 200 the longest — Carrie Underwood’s “Play On,” Daughtry’s “Leave This Town,” and Adam Lambert’s “For Your Entertainment” — were all holdovers from 2009.
The only 2010 Idol release to make a significant dent in the charts: season four winner Fantasia’s third album.
But that doesn’t mean former Idol contestants didn’t release good music in 2010. Here are my picks for the five best albums.
Coming tomorrow: The top 10 songs of 2010. Followed, on Friday, by the top videos of 2010.
So keep checking back.
And if you want a look at my grades for all Idol albums from 2010, and most from past years, go here and check out a new section of Idol Chatter.
Now, my top five albums …
———————————————————————————————————————————–
Bo Bice’s “3″1.
The album was supposed to be called “Different Shades of Blue.” Two months before it’s release, Bo shortened it to “3.” After all, it’s his third album. And Bo’s wife had just delivered the couple’s third son. Regardless of the title, it’s Bo’s best yet by far, with a nice helping of southern rock that was sorely lacking in his post-Idol debut and more country than fans might expect. Bottom line: It works, from start to finish. The song that was supposed to be the title track is great; so is the album-closing “You Take Yourself with You.”
———————————————————————————————————————————–
Crystal Bowersox’s “Farmer’s Daughter”
The reviews have been mixed. In my mind, it’s the best debut yet from an Idol finalist. And proof that an Idol finalist doesn’t have to sacrifice his or her identity when releasing a first album in conjunction with 19 Entertainment. In fact, many of the songs on this CD were written by Crystal before Idol, including “Holy Toledo,” “Speak Now” and the magnificent title track, “Farmer’s Daughter.” Crystal’s emotions come through strongest when she’s singing about trials she’s faced in the past, but this is far from a one-trick album. An example: “Mason,” a song written post-Idol with her husband, Brian Walker.
———————————————————————————————————————————–
Fantasia’s “Back To Me”
The album debuted at number two on the Billboard 200 and number one on the R&B chart. It’s already produced two R&B hits singles (“Bittersweet” and “I’m Doin’ Me”). I like the playful dance tune “Falling in Love Tonight” better than either of those songs. I hate that Fantasia has a reality show. One episode was more than enough for me. But it’s tough to argue with an album that has been one of the most successful among Idols in sales and chart performance. Plus, it landed a Grammy nomination for Idol’s season three winner. And no one can argue with that voice.
———————————————————————————————————————————–
4. We Are the Fallen, “Tear the World Down”
The album spent just three weeks on the Billboard 200, which means it’s vastly underappreciated in my mind. For those who forgot — or never knew — We Are the Fallen is three-fifths former members of Evanescence, plus bass guitarist Marty O’Brien, plus former season seven Idol Carly Smithson. And Carly never sounded this good on Idol, belting out the rockers (“Bury Me Alive”) and the power ballads (“Sleep Well, My Angel”) with equal aplomb. Another highlight: “Paradigm.” So, who’s the little dark-haired girl standing amid all the destruction on the album cover?
———————————————————————————————————————————–
5. David Archuleta: “The Other Side of Down”
This was the toughest pick on the list. Should the honor go to Jason Castro’s hit-and-miss debut because of a few golden moments or to David’s second album for being solid from beginning to end. In the end, I chose David. Jason’s album relied on golden moments from Idol to make it more palatable; David put out a better sophomore album than his debut. He had a hand in writing more of the material, too, with credits on 10 of the 12 songs. And it’s just so darn upbeat and … well, David being David. It’s just a shame the sales numbers for the album haven’t been more upbeat to this point.
NeonLimeLight Loves David! I love that site!

16 songs (setlist already posted above) plus an encore – CRUSH
He sounded so good – I know I sound like a broken record – but he is simply AMAZING.
I wonder if he will still come back… Nah, the peeps didn’t ask for more. Well after 17 songs I think they should have gotten their fill right?
In Manila he sang 3 songs and we were over the moon! LOL
JR -- The cookie party at Snarkies was fantastic! He sounded so good and I am so jazzed for a tour! If they only knew how much those cookie parties motivated some of us to BUY TICKETS! As soon as there is a tour, so many fans will be on TicketMaster.
And remember -- you have a standing invitation to my house for an East Coast Tour roundabout -- as many as we can get to LOL
Am nOT forgetting missy!:)
Too bad rascal wasn’t able to see MoTab -- that would have been the ambiance he was aiming for when they were planning for a fan initiated archie get together, right?

Brighlight’s brief recap:
Just got back from the Grove in Anaheim. David was in awesome form tonight. What a long set he sang! My 23 year old son is home from college on break and I ‘dragged’ him to the show. He had a great time. Some observations from my son: “He’s the best singer I’ve ever heard live.” “He really feels the music. I teared up a few times.” “That song ‘Angels’ was unbelievable!” “I’d love to hear him do an acoustic set.” “I’d go again.”
As for me, I had a great time! David and the band were cooking and it’s so fun to see the way David’s whole body gets into the music. (for me, though, the sound balance wasn’t optimal. All of the instruments were very loud – often overpowering David’s voice.) But, I’m guessing that the volume/balance is a very contemporary sound, so I’m not complaining. I think this was a great lead in to David’s New Year’s eve performance.
And, might I echo what has been said about David’s fans? Everyone was very nice and the people at our table were very friendly.
Oddly enough, I bumped into some friends that I haven’t seen in several years. So funny to see them there. She is also a singer. Gotta say, David is a singer’s singer.

“Angels” audio, credit to ThinkofMeArchie:
Epic concert in Anaheim! David was in high energy mode, sang as if it was his last performance and did a non stop set! All of the numbers he did in San Diego in acoustic style became electrified last night. Some from the new CD some from the first and a couple of Christmas tunes to boot! Had a great seat with a perfect view of him at the piano and sat next to goboywonder and her lovely daughter! If he does an early year tour, look out!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Mike -- thanks for the update! I was at the cookie party last night (partial cellcast) and thought it sounded amazing! I was thinking that this was preparation for a Tour -- a new band, all those songs -- it was a dress rehearsal.
So glad you enjoyed the night -- and how could you not?
How was the crowd?
The crowd has evolved… During his numbers at the piano…silence! What we all have been hoping for! That happened in San Diego too. A new respect for listening to David. The vast majority of the crowd last night was “older”. Yes there was screaming all night (yours truly included) but when he took to the white grand…the world stopped spinning…
Mike -- that’s what I thought…I am all for the screaming between numbers (heh, yeah, me, too), and silence while he sings. Heaven.
Mike/Marlie -- hehe, the MoTab experience probably showed fans how to better appreciate David -- you know listening w/ reverence for the music. Even the w/the hawtness factor, I dunno, David just stumps me to being a mute. Which is OK cos at my age, I should just let the tweenies do all the acreaming. Am ooookkkkkk w/ that, LOL
ArchAngel1307 meets David
Dear Marlie and JR,
I’ve been a lurker from notingDaivd to TDC. I don’t usually have time to post, but lurking is on my daily task list. I’d like to thank both of you for your dedication to this site. The organization of all the David’s performances of this site is the “BEST”. I aslo really like JR’s YouTube site too.
My husband and I went to Anaheim concert last night. As you knew already, no camera or video taping was allowed last night. During the Angel performance I decided to turn on my cell phone (hidden underneath a piece of paper) to record. When I turned on the phone to listen the recording during the 6-hour car ride back home from LA today, my husband asked me to turn it off right away because the quality was so… bad, and he was afraid that I’d break the phone
. I’ve been David’s concert many times (lost track the number already), and I had to agree with him that the band was a little too loud last night and did over power David’s voice especially for those songs he wasn’t on the piano. I listened to other’s video/audio on YouTube, and they all had the same issue. I decided to pick a few better ones, and loaded to MediaFire. Please download them if they sound okay to you guys. David performed 80 minutes straight, and his voice was strong from the begining until the end. I loved his rambling before MKOP. It is too bad, there wasn’t a video because his facial expression and hand gestures were so funny. He also got a really long standing ovation after Angel. I kicked myself that I missed the very beginning.

Happy New Year to all TDCers!
Oh QuiteBlanc -- thank you very much for your comment. Am glad you like the way we chronicle David’s appearances & performances. I have said it before -- one of the things I like about TDC when I was still new then was its structure. It makes access to anythingDavid quite easy and intuitive. We should thank Marlie & Rascal for that.
Me? Am just gung-ho about finding anythingDavid and I do have the time-zone advantage. Well most of the time cos am still kicking myself for missing the live broadcast of the Holiday Parade over at WFAA, so I failed to secure an HQ version (at the very least) of his performance broadcasted on TV.
Also, thank you for sharing your Anaheim experience & your file. HOWEVER, I think you have to re-send the link. When I click it, am being directed to my own mediafire folder. You need to send the sharing or download link of the file itself by
1. Clicking SHARE (that’s actually the link you sent)
2. When you click SHARE, a sort of pull down menu appears
3. Look for the SHARING LINK phrase
4. Beside the SHARING LINK, a “copy link” button appears, click on that
5. Paste the link on TDC
Dear JR,
Sorry I am really rusty with MediaFire. Haven’t used for quite a while.

You are quick, thorough and organized!!
It is just my little contribution at the end of the year.
QB
QB -- am listening to Angels right now! Your recording is great! David sounds so great! LOL, am all about exclamation points now. recording
If Angel is any indication, the the rest of your recordings should be perfect
Have you uploaded them to YT? If not, I can upload them to my YT, with all due credit to you of course. I will look for the approp pix
Let me know
I forgot to mention -- ANGELS always makes me cry. I just love how he pours his soul to this song. Just exquisite.
Thanks for your year-end contribution {{{hugs}}} You sure hit it w/a bang.
Happy New Year to you too and your family!

Finally, I’m back to the computer--a little late to the party, but here’s my Anaheim experience…
First… big shout-out “thank you” to mikesd for the upgrade on the seats, OMG!! Score! I took a friend to The Grove show, and she was shocked… she said (jaw dropping) “he gives 400%!!!” I have to say, though, that the sound techs should be strung up by their big fat inept thumbs. It was so freakin’ LOUD with all kinds of reverb. Like in that Angels YT audio… that is not a problem of the recording device… that was the bad mixing… multiply that noise by a power of ten if you were sitting in front of those speakers. grrrr. If QB’s mediafire file could cut down that noise factor, he/she’s a real miracle worker! (Can’t wait to go download it!)
But in spite of the loud boomy thang, David was able to override it and be heard…and that’s a real testament to the power of his voice. And what a masterful performance!!!! It was a blessing and a joy to see him again, and I loved hearing him sing… no, embody!! his new music. This was my 5th concert (I know… lucky girl!) and by far his most animated, most in control, most total pro. Wow! Words fail. He was soooo animated, he must have sweat off 5 pounds during that show.
Here’s hoping there’s a tour in the new year… and that the band supports him instead of trying to drown him out.
Just added QB’s Grove recording & posted them at YT -

JR,
Thank you for your speedy editting and posting those mp3 files. I guess David’s fan just don’t want to miss anything!! I didn’t tell my hubby that some of them were loaded to YouTube. He’d think that I’d like to pierce other’s eardrum

highervibe,
Hi {{Wave}}, I met you at Liz’s house before SF Christmas concert. I was the one made Eva Cassidy CD. Unfortunately we were at the middle of tier 2, and didn’t move around much to find familiar faces. Happy New Year! May be see you at David’s 2011 tour.
Going back to “stressful” work routine starting tomorrow, and become a lurker again.
QB -- hey a lot of Archies are thanking you for recording those audios. Pls tell you husband you made a lot of archies happy
