David Archuleta @NHFA’s 15th Noche de Gala
The National Hispanic Foundation for the Arts’ (NHFA) 2011 Noche de Gala, hosted by Co-founder Jimmy Smits will take place on Tuesday, Sept 13, 2011 at the Mayflower Hotel in Washington, D.C. NHFA was created in 1997 to promote Hispanic talent in the performing arts.
NHFA will honor Rep. Xavier Becerra with the 2011 Raul Julia Award for Excellence for his advocacy, leadership and tireless work to make the National Museums of the American Latino a reality.
NHFA will also honor and recognize the many successes of its scholarship recipients. In particular it will present its 2011 Horizon Award to Rashaad Ernesto Green, a former NHFA scholarship recipient, who wrote and directed Gun Hill Road, starring Esai Morales. A moving and compelling drama of an ex-con who returns home to the Bronx after three years in prison to discover his wife estranged and his teenage son exploring a sexual transformation that puts the fragile bonds of their family to the test.

Really enjoyed David’s singing @ the Noche de Gala and the reception he got. I loved all the performances. He sang so passionately and gave some cute little stories in between. He refers to Jimmy Smits as being a “a good egg” which everyone seems to enjoy. Love the little wedding anecdote of the couple that told him they chose the song for a wedding which seemed to surprise and please him. ( I also remember a story where David sang the song for a couple on the night of their engagement and they later sent a note saying they had it sung at their wedding but wished he could have sang it for them)
He seems respected by the Spanish culture which I know pleases him and honors his family. My favorite of the night was Contigo de Distancia. He did all of them proud. He always gives it 110%. Looking forward to the Arizona reports. I’ll be there in spirit. Hoping for Winter Tour news soon.

In the middle of his set, David brought his mom, who’s Honduran, up on stage with him to sing a duet of his song “To Be With You”. The way I read it, the twit says: American Idol David Archuleta singing at the National Hispanic Foundation for the Arts Foundation. It looks like a picture of him singing Contigo. (of course it could be singing anything)
