David continues his “onslaught” of the Asian market. This time Okinawa, Japan is the lucky destination!
The Marine Corps Community Services (MCCS), Okinawa Japan celebrates its annual Foster Festival, with a two-day extravaganza of fun, food and top-notch entertainment. On their FB, they extend their invite -
Join us at 2 – 10 p.m. this Saturday and Sunday at Foster Festival. Foster Festival delights both service members and locals alike with free top-notch entertainment, game booths, amusement rides, Kiddie Land for the children, and enough cultural foods to appease the heartiest appetite. This year’s entertainment lineup will include pop singer and American Idol Season 7 runner-up David Archuleta. Foster Festival will also showcase pop, R & B and reggae fusion singer Iyaz on Sunday night. If jazz is more your style, Sub5, one of Scandinavia’s leading jazz fusion bands will grace the stage both days along with variety band, Streetbeat. Well, after Japan, David will be back to Singapore

Poor David. That was a long set and he was having a little trouble with his voice. But what a trooper -- he didn’t skip a song or even adjust them much for his throat (sounded scratchy -- like a cold). And, when David has an “off” night, it is better than most people’s “on” night.

Hey Marlie,
It’s the lurker of lurkers. I know I’ve seen every David video that has come across the internet. In any case, I’m going to be mean here. What’s new? It’s funny that, yes, his voice is off here, but of course it’s to be expected. Fly a plane half way across the world with recycled dry air, to a 36 degree latitude (no humidity, like in Southwest Asia), get off the plane, and pretty much sing. Not the best of situations, and it showed. It’s happened before. Now the funny part. There’s a certain website that’s a sayin’ that some of these performances are the bestest ever. I just had to say it, because I do go there often, but it was just so funny to me that they really do see things through such rose colored glasses.
And I’m just saying this because, it’s a fact, not a bash…he just should fly into a venue like this…and stay a day…aclimate…he has really, to me, the most beautiful and most moving voice I think I’ve ever heard. If he’s going to do a gig, with a lot of people in attendance, he really should fly in, rest…you all know. I forgot. Who is managing him now?

I’ve never really left. I really am the most prolific lurker. I’m going to Santa Rosa. I went to the Warfield last time. It really was amazing. I was somewhat sad that it was not as full as it should have been, but was so overwhelmed by the occasion that I’m not sure that I was conscious. He really is something else. I looked in my email and didn’t have one from you in either my work nor aol mail…checked both spam filters, too. Maybe there’s a delay.
As far as the voice “issue”, it really is something to be expected given the circumstances. I have in my agenda to see him sing in both a tropical setting (I really believe that his voice thrives in humidity) and also, one day, in SLC. I used to go to SLC 2 to 3 times a year, pretty much up until right before he appeared on Idol. Go figure.

One year ago: David”s album, “The Other Side of Down,” entered The Billboard 200 at #13 with sales of 24K copies.
Now this week: “Joe Jonas’ solo debut album, Fastlife, enters The Billboard 200 at #15, with sales of just 18K copies.”

olemr2001: I think your point is well worth understanding, too. In the reading I’ve done lately about the “pop music and radio music” business, the sales are deplorable. It doesn’t matter who it is in most cases. Sure, there are those that make a huge splash (Taylor Swift, Justin “the baby” Bieber) due to promotion. But even some like Elton John do not have the sales you would expect.
The music world is not just labels driving brands, anymore. With the internet, Spotify, Pandora, iTunes, YouTube and other marketing venues, musicians have to find their own way to promote themselves and their music. The labels can’t even ensure success anymore.
I’m not as concerned with David finding a big label as with finding a good management team. Some on Indie labels do just as well as those on the big labels these days. It’s a hard business and in definite disarray these days.

Not all Mormons are married in the Temple given the VERY strict requirements the Church has for that “honor”. I almost married a Mormon who is CA-based -- that’s why I know something about such things.

Marlie -- looks to me like a Facebook page for an engagement party, not the wedding. It also looks like her fiance was a missionary in my family’s area of So. Cal., so they probably are pretty religious.
