PYROPALOOZA PERFORMANCE
Wondering how we got so close to the stage? Try doing a stake out at least 7 hours before the start of the event! Yup, I was there at 2pm for a show that would start at 8pm, where David was scheduled to appear at 9! LOL
You think that’s crazy? Naree was there at 11am sitting through several fastfood eateries! By lunchtime, she was joined by @ascphil & family. Meanwhile, I had domestic chores to complete (yah know, cook, clean, etc..) before I could join Naree at 2pm. A group of fans from Archuleta Philippines was also there already, making posters.
As soon as I arrived, Naree & I started mapping out the venue and choosing where we would “pitch our tent”
We had VIP tix, courtesy of @ascphil who is an SM executive but Naree & I chose to stay at the Gold area (no seats), directly facing the stage where David would perform. Earlier, one of the organizers was telling Naree that the tix we had offered the best view of the (pyro) show and so we should stay in the inner area of the venue and choose our seats. But Naree said
But this is the show for us – pointing to the stage, away from the VIP section (me-chuckling)
Let me tell you, I really felt bad for the other performers and even for the PyroPalooza show cos it was obvious that the people were there to see David. I mean the other acts were good, too believe me. But the fans were just stoked for only one performer that night! Well, he didn’t disappoint as you can see in the vids below.
DA @ PYROPALOOZA – COMPLETE SET UPCLOSE (11 Feb 2012)
DA @ PYROPALOOZA – NANDITO AKO UPCLOSE (11 Feb 2012)
DA @ PYROPALOOZA – WHEREVER YOU ARE UPCLOSE (11 Feb 2012)
DA @ PYROPALOOZA – SBL W/ A TWIST! UPCLOSE (11 Feb 2012)
Sorry for the jerky parts. Crowd was innnssssannne, LOL. Am even amazed that the audio recording went well cos you have to remember, this was an open-air performance. Enjoy!

FN Exclusive: David Archuleta on the Philippines, Girls, and Acting
Can’t get enough of David Archuleta? Learn more about this singing sensation through FN’s exclusive interview. By Jasmine T. Cruz
Fireworks lit up the sky and couples
were serenaded with love songs at Close Up’s Pyropalooza event held at the SM Mall of Asia Music Hall on February 11. But it was American Idol Season 7 runner-up David Archuleta who made the show extra special with his guest performance. He entertained the crowd by singing Ogie Alcasid’s “Nandito Ako,” the title song for the miniseries he’ll be starring in; Southborder’s “Wherever You Are”; and an original song called “Something ‘Bout Love.” Before the show, Female Network had a one-on-one interview with David, in which he shared the memorable moments of his stay in the Philippines, what he looked for in a girl, and what acting made him realize about himself.
Read on for quotes and insights we gained from the interview
5 MEMORABLE EXPERIENCES
FROM THE PHILIPPINES
1. Getting to know his Filipino fans.
“The people here are very emotional,” David told us.
“The culture here is similar to the Latin culture,” he added. “So I felt like I could really connect with that.” David has had Latin culture handed down from both sides of his family—his mother is from the Honduras, while his father is of Spanish-Basque descent. David grew up watching telenovelas, which are a huge part of Latin culture.
2. His acting experience.
“At first I thought, ‘Well, this is crazy,’” David said of his reaction to TV 5’s offer to star in the miniseries Nandito Ako. Before this, he only had small parts in American shows like iCarly and Hannah Montana.
David decided to challenge himself by accepting the offer. He said, “It was just one of those things [where you] follow your heart. Your heart says you need to do something, and it’s like you don’t understand why.” And he doesn’t regret his decision. “We had so much fun,” David said. “We didn’t want the series to end. We wanted to keep filming.”
3. Bonding with his teleserye family.
David shared that he really bonded with the Nandito Ako cast. “It felt like a family, and that’s why it was sad for it to end.” When asked about his leading ladies, he said, “Eula and Jasmine were both great to work with. They’re both young, and they’re both fairly new to acting as well—they both started last year, I think—so it was nice to have someone who could understand where I was coming from.”
4. The food.
Though David said he generally enjoyed the food he got to try in the Philippines, one thing in particular stood out: “The mangoes—they’re just so good!”
5. Connecting with fans through music.
When asked what it was like to sing “Nandito Ako,” David said that even though the song was in a language that was foreign to him, he still managed to connect with it. He studied the meaning of the lyrics, but more than that, he really tried to understand the spirit of the song. David explained that music in itself evoked meaning that could break and transcend language barriers. “Classical songs don’t have words, but they’re still so emotional,” he said. “It’s the same with any other song. Even though the language may not have been the one I’m familiar with and know, you can still feel what it’s about. You can feel the energy in the song and the emotion that’s in it.”
During his short stay in the Philippines, he was able to record five songs for an OPM album. David said, “What I love about it is that it’s a way to connect with the fans here and thank them for everything that they’ve done [to support me].”
5 THINGS DAVID ARCHULETA LOOKS
FOR IN A GIRL
1. No fakes allowed!
When it comes to matters of the heart, David isn’t looking for fakers or pretenders. “I look for someone who’s real,” David said, “someone who’s genuine.”
2. Confidence.
David said that he does not expect perfection, but instead prefers someone comfortable with who she is. “Someone who makes an effort to be the best that they can be,” he told us. “Not someone has to be perfect or anything, but someone who doesn’t put themselves down too much.”
3. A generous spirit.
David also talked about the importance of understanding and compassion for other people, and this is definitely a quality he’d look for in his ideal girl. “They know they’re not perfect, but they still give their best to other people. For some reason, when people do that, they become more understanding, and they become more loving, and I think that’s important to have.”
4. Care for your appearance.
We asked David what physical characteristics he was attracted to, and he replied that he prioritizes the effort a woman takes to make herself look good rather than her looks in themselves. David said, “It’s important for [people to] take care of themselves ’cause I think how they take care of the way they look symbolizes how they treat themselves as a person.”
5. A clean rather than flashy look.
A wardrobe full of designer labels and glitzy outfits won’t help you work your way into David’s heart. “They don’t have to be wearing the nicest clothes,” David said. “They just have to be modest and take care of how they look. I like a clean look, nothing too flashy or promiscuous.”
3 LESSONS DAVID LEARNED FROM
HIS ACTING EXPERIENCE
1. Opening up.
David learned how to wear his heart on his sleeve. “I just learned how to be more open,” he explained. “I learned how to not hold myself back.”
2. Battling fears.
“I was always and I still am very self conscious, and I’ll be just like, ‘Oh, I don’t wanna. If I do this, what [will] people think of me?” Through acting, David learned how to placate those fears.
3. It’s just emotions.
David told us that the heavy drama scenes of Nandito Ako really presented a challenge. He said, “I had to learn how to not be afraid to go that to that extreme of emotions. Normally, I would hold myself back.” But, David said, he learned “to go for it, and jump into those emotions and into that scene.”

Got word that TV5 is gearing up for another surprise for us before the day ends.
I wonder if it has anything to do with David and his gorgeous teeth?
Hmmmmmmmmmmmm
OK, here is the surprise VANGIE GUARDS DAVID’S SKED
Rough translation:
VANGIE: Then we go back to the hotel. You have a shoot at 11am. Don’t forget to bring your black jacket with the silver stripes but the beige one will do. You look handsome in it!
2 o’clock, you have a mall show. Some interviews, some singing. Be sure you pick a good song! Not something ugly (chaka) -- remember you have plenty of fans! So you need to totally rawk! (bongga ka day!)
Then in the evening, you have a recording session. OK you need to again rawk! Take your performance to the next level! Got it?
DAVID: Vangie I don’t….
VANGIE: Oh am sorry! I forgot you’re English speaking…
DAVID: Thanks… you’re a doll…
VANGIE: Noooo, am a phonnnne. Naks! You’re pulling my leg, Kapatid! Can I get a smile? There’s that smile! Anyway…
NOTE: “Bongga Ka Day” a popular Pinoy song in the ’70s and also the title of movie, literally translates to “Glamorous Girl”, as the song’s and movie’s storyline carry. But has taken new meaning as time went on and seeped into the cultural vernacular
[Exclusive] David Archuleta to Release an All-OPM Album!
MYXph sat down with American Idol Season 7 runner-up David Archuleta to talk about recording an all-OPM album, meeting OPM royalties, acting, his 2-year mission, and Lea Salonga.

David Archuleta, who’s currently in the country to film a mini-series, has a jam-packed schedule. Prior to the interview, the affable singer had a late night working on a “fun Philippine project” his Filipino fans — an all OPM album!
“This is a project that came about quite suddenly. It wasn’t really planned out, but while I was here filming Nandito Ako, it just came about and came into work and we just figured it would be a great gift for the Filipinos fans to go alongside everything that has been going on.”
“Since I’ll be leaving for a couple of years, it just seems like something really fun and special to give, he added. “And the songs, I think, not just Filipinos would enjoy but fans elsewhere would really like because the songs tend to be really heartfelt, emotional, and you can really sing them, and so I think my other fans would really enjoy listening to them as well.”
When asked about the difficulties of recording the Tagalog song, Nandito Ako (originally sung by Ogie Alcasid, also included on the album), Archie said that it wasn’t as hard as he thought it would be. To prepare, he shared, “I just made sure to listen to the original version by Ogie [Alcasid] a lot. Over and over and over and over, just to make sure that I’m understanding what was being said.”
Incidentally, Archie got to meet Ogie, with his wife Regine Velasquez.
“It was great! I loved getting to meet both of them. They were so nice. It was just fun getting to hang out with them. They even sang together a little bit which was really fun. Just very good people,” he quipped. “I know that they’re both very respected names here in the Philippines, so just being able to meet them and see how simple they were…”
Apart from Ogie and Regine, he also got to work with record producers Jay Durias and Jimmy Antiporda on his OPM album! When asked for his favorite track on the album, Archie simply replied, “I like keeping surprises.” Though he did drop some hints.
Watch the clip below as he shares more about his upcoming all-OPM album. Keep logging on to MYXph for more of our exclusive interview!
NOTE: OPM means Original Pilipino Music — that means penned and scored by a Filipino talent, which could be in Talaglog or English. So no need to fear that the OPM album will be all in Tagalog. For example: Where Ever You Are is an OPM song. So the international fans will not be alienated.

oops Updates from you, TV 5, Naree and all.
For those interested, here’s the lyrics of Wherever You Are
I love to see the ocean’s beauty
And the moon that shines above
Alone in the sand looking at the stars
Wishing someday I would find true love
Would it be nice to see the morning
With the one you love the most
Would it be nice to say goodnight
To the one you hold so close… to your heart
To your heart.
[Chorus]
The wind that blows the dove
Is the wind that blows my love
Hope it’ll find its way to you wherever you are.
I love to sit in fields of green
Looking deeply through the sky
Watching birds as they fly by
Hoping someday fate will bring me true love.
Would it be nice to hold someone
So dear, near you’re heart
Would it be nice to hear those words
I love you from the one… that you love,
That you love.
[Repeat Chorus]
Bridge
I’d love to see myself one day
In the arms of someone
Who will share her life with me
Selflessly? Someday?
You will find your way? To me?
This is probably why David was asking about true love a couple of days ago
what do we have here?

JR. I didn’t think I even liked the “Wherever You Are” song. That video from you and Naree is THE MOST AMAZING VIDEO I”VE EVER SEEN. I’m not going to go to sleep. MY GOD. Just…tear your soul apart. Thank you…both Naree…and JR…for posting.
A lot of people are liking WYA and asking if it will be part of the OPM album.
By all indication I think it will be. It was mentioned in Talentadong Pinoy (not yet aired interview) that it is the 2nd track in the OST, which now appears to be the OPM album.
JR..I’m having a meltdown…that video is AMAZING! It’s kind of a thanks, and kind of …a melt down…that song just really …that video…made me have an emotinal time…
Here’s the complete set of David’s performance, in case you want to watch it in one seamless fashion
AnotherDavid -- are you alright? Yeah “meltdown” has been a word used for WYA… that’s the vid you are ref to right?
Wait, am NOW having a meltodown with this news:
@Astroplus1 Astroplus

Here is Side A’s live performance of Forevermore

Dear JR. I’m sitting here in tears regarding Forever More. Thank you for sending the sheet music of Forever More with Naree when she visited the US. Now we not only get David singing this beautiful song and tribute to the fans but it is the title of the OPM. Wow what a connection. “I could thank the fans forever and it wouldn’t be enough”
The Gift that keeps on giving.
I could thank you forever and it wouldn’t be enough!!!
HEIIJOY -- am sure it was just a coincidence that I sent the same song that’s the carrier title now of his OPM album. Am not even sure he had time opening his gifts from last Christmas! LOL
Like Nandito Ako, Forevermore is a much beloved love song in our parts. Just the intro of the instruments alone would send people swooning.
That’s how sentimental, emotional and musical we Filipinos are. Must be why David feels at home here, reminds him so much of his Latin culture
JR--you got it…the Wherever You Are video. I’m a sucker for packaging. I really loved the Vietnam videos of David, because of the background on the stage. This video, though, is just wonderful with the extreme close ups, and even the shakiness. It’s a keeper!
Yes David has mentioned how much the culture there is much like his own Latin Culture. I think of that when I see fans getting on stage to participate. He has always said that his Mother’s family is like that. One big talent show and party and everyone must participate. Ha! Ha! “You dance whether you want to or not”
He also got the Drama genes from his father’s side. He has talent oozing out of him with Music and Drama.
What really makes the difference is also his faith!!
He is an International Star in every way!! Thanks for the love and respect.
I admire your Humility!! I was able to get a message to David through Kari how much we love the song Forever More and how much we appreciate everything David has done for us these last 4 years and is doing now. I let him know we are forever grateful
I’m hearing there are 10 songs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Squee! I want that Album.
Hi jackryan4DA,
Good morning! It’s Monday and I hope you have a great start of the week. Thanks again for the excellent videos! May I ask if David’s taped guesting in Talentadong Pinoy already aired? The one when he sang “Wherever You Are” and an interview with Eula Caballero? Hope someone could take a video of that. Thanks again and God bless!
NEW PROMO VID FOR NANDITO AKO, THE SERIES & THE MUSIC VIDEO
DA on how Lea Salonga Sparked his Interest in Music
JR, I’m curious, what do the numbers mean associated with many of the titles of the videos being posted? e.g., “45-107″ DA on Lea Salonga, “45-112″ DA Full Set.
I’ll be offline for a while but thanks in advance if you get the chance to answer this.
Oh it is my way of chronicling the videos that I have so far.
45-112 thus means
45 -- the nth number of video set or playlist that I have
112 -- the nth number of video w/in a set or playlist
I have subdivided my uploading by years by channel
JRforDAI -- for his pre-AI & AI years (am still uploading his CRUSH-related videos)
JRforDA09 -- for 2009 activities (used to be JRforDA2009 but I lost that one so am still re-uploading for this year)
JRforDA -- for 2010 activities, my original channel & almost complete
JRforDA2011 -- for 2011 activities -- I think this is complete
JRforDA2012 -- for the current activities -- still uploading
The numbers may change based on the number of videos I unearth in my video vault!
Nerdy much?
