OS launches a BEGIN. Photo Contest
To celebrate the launch of David’s new album BEGIN., we invite you to submit a photograph to a special contest to win prizes! You can send in any photo that represents the theme or idea of BEGIN. to you so long as it meets the rules below. Example photos might include newborn babies, seedlings, kittens, first day of school, etc. Three “Staff Favorite” photos will earn their owners VIP t-shirts and bags from the “My Kind of Christmas” tour, and the sender of the top photo will also receive a photograph autographed by David! All accepted photos will be displayed in a gallery on DavidArchuleta.com, with credit given to the owners.
Contest Rules: Each person may submit only one photo. Each entered photo must be owned by the person who submits it. We will check to ensure that photos are original; participants who submit photos that are not their original work will be disqualified. Photos must NOT contain the image of David Archuleta or his name in them. Photos must be a minimum size of 400 by 600 pixels.
Send your photos to fans@davidarchuleta.com by August 14, 2012 with your name and location, as well as a title or short description of your photo. Winners will be chosen and and notified via email shortly after that date. Photos will be added to the gallery as they are accepted so get yours in early for the most views!
DavidArchuleta.com retains the right to reject any photo submission that is deemed inappropriate.

GOSH since I’ve gotten BROKEN in Itunes I have listen to it continuously. Have my headphones and closed my eyes imagining David is performing with full orchestra. David is very good. I was hoping one day this will be a sound track in a movie and will be nominated in Oscar and on the awards night David will sing it live. Wow…. He deserve to win an award in the music world. David is an amazing singer, no doubt about it. Competition is tough out there in the States. But surely he will be recognize soon in those prestigious award bodies out there. I’m so, happy to be a part of Archie family and will support David forever.

Listening to Broken on replay quite often. So much beauty. Knowing David composed the Music and sang it at the Piano while it was being recorded makes it so special. You can feel David’s connection to the song and it’s meaning………….and of course for each of us that listen there is added meaning for us while we soak in the Beauty of David’s voice, heart and soul. What Kurt was able to add enhances it’s beauty and leaves us with David’s voice front and center. We are also treated to David singing his own background. Yes it needs to be heard.

Well, trying to do my best on helping to promote David and his newest album, (not to mention, sharing my excitement over the CD) I went to the producer of a local show called “Mormon Times” at the TV station I work at and told her that David is getting ready to release a new album, and maybe we could do an interview with the artist Libbie Linton and what it was like to work with David. The producer liked the idea and okayed the story.
Sad part, though, I didn’t get to field produce the story, she assigned it to another.
And begging your pardon as I go on a mini rant here -- I didn’t get to write the story, but on the day of the show, I received a script via email with directions for editing the story. I liked the idea that I got to work on the story, but I would of liked more time. I wanted to be able to pick out the best pictures, sounds and video of David. Instead of putting it together in only an hour. Not to mention the opportunity to listen to David over and over again at work.
(Rant over, sorry about that.)
It will be only about a minute long, and I used the largest “music up” for Libbie’s part, but its always nice to see and hear David on the TV again. (I wonder if the show would allow me to put the complete interview up on youtube? She has some wonderful things to say about David.
The story will be on Mormon Times at 10am MT on KSL-TV (Utah) on August 19.
Cutter: That is awesome! Even if you only edit the story, it was your idea and you are working on something special to promote David. Very cool. I’d love to see it, so keep us posted if you can post it on youtube. Perhaps they will post it on their site or something -- you can hint that it will really up their page hits

I’m too caught up in all of the excitement of new music by David, though I do have to wait a couple of weeks before I can get it. I promised my sister she can get it for me for my birthday. Its gonna be hard, but I know its worth it.

I’m in a BEGIN. vortex. Which is my favorite? It changes as each song comes on LOL This one, no this one, no this one is the best. Gah! They are all gorgeous.
Still in the verge of excitement getting this “Begin” album of David from last night downloaded in ITunes. All alone at home like crazy clapping while listening to it in full blast with my headphones, it’s really heaven. This is a totally different David I heard. A mature sophisticated voice this album is all about. Remarkable selection of songs. David did really a good job on this album regardless how short the time he got to finish it. Kudos to David and his team for a job well done. And thanks to Kari for extending all the messages to and from David from his fans.
Can’t hold my tears when I heard David’s vlog #6 addressing it to all his fans. He really cares a lot as we cared so much for him. This gift is a treasure which will never be forgotten. My favorite of course is Broken, plus Beautiful, DGU, SOWK, BSMS, Angel.
With all the excitement last night, we haven’t forgotten to pray for everyone in the Philippines for the calamity going on. Thank god my family is not affected by the flooding.

David Archuleta back in his element on BEGIN.
That’s quite the farewell gift David Archuleta delivered to fans today.
The former Idol contestant is off on a two-year mission trip, but recorded an album of cover songs before he left.
That album — titled BEGIN. — was released today and finds the Season 7 runner-up back in his element.
After all, David didn’t win over fans by dancing across the Idol stage singing pop songs. If anything, he looked a wee bit uncomfortable when he did that.
He won loyal fans with brilliant renditions of inspirational ballads like John Lennon’s “Imagine.”
And he’s back to singing those types of songs on BEGIN., delivering wonderful versions of “Bridge Over Troubled Water,” “Angel” and “Everybody Hurts.”
Not everything works. I could have done without David’s version of U2′s “Pride (In the Name of Love).” It seems a bit out of kilter with the rest of the album.
But one of the best tracks is “Broken,” and that’s not a cover. In fact, it’s the only original on the album. In case you haven’t heard it, I’ve embedded it below.
After recording two post-Idol pop albums, the change is musical style was entirely deliberate, David said in a video message to fans.
He said he wanted to record an album with “a more relaxed, peaceful kind of feel” in synch with where he is at this point in his life.
Now that he’s delivered a reminder of the vocal talent fans will be missing until his return, the big question is: What next?
Well, judging from the latest video message to fans, it sounds like music will still be part of David’s life when the mission work ends.
“I know it’s something that will also affect my music when I get back,” David says. “It will give me a new light on things and a new perspective musically and with my writing. Who I want to be. What I want to express. I’m really excited to share that with you guys, whatever it may be.”

Here is a great review for BEGIN.
… the record primarily consists of cover songs from notable artists ranging from Keane to Cyndi Lauper to Simon & Garfunkel, plus one original tune “Broken,” and a hymn at the end. While making a cover album always presents a bit of risk, I have to say that Archuleta’s vocal performances on this record cause it to stand out more than anything I’ve heard from him in years. While known for his near-flawless technical deliveries, Archuleta often falls short on emotional connection; but by choosing a track list closer to his heart, he seems able to convey a deeper emotion and sense of meaning with these songs. It’s more reflective and less bubble-gum pop than his previous work, but it’s just plain better music than he’s come out with in awhile.
And
Overall, Begin. is not just a fitting album reflecting a certain season in David Archuleta’s life; even with its flaws, it also happens to be one of his best albums so far. This might be an interlude, but in my humble opinion, Archuleta should take his cue from this record, because if future records have anywhere near the emotional quality of this one, it could be a turning point in his career.

David Archuleta Releases New Album ‘Begin’
David Archuleta fans, get excited! The American Idol alum is back with a new album titled Begin. which is out in stores and on iTunes today.
David’s new album is full of inspirational songs including Christina Aguilera’s “Beautful.” David is currently serving a two-year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ Latter-day Saints, but still took some time out to make great music for his fans.
